I hope John McCain take off the gloves and expose Obama’s scummy friends because the mainstream liberal bias media will not:
Terrorist Bill Ayers
Convicted-felon Tony Rezko
Racist Jeremiah Wright
Racist Michael Pfleger

Less than a week after the federal government had to bail out American International Group Inc., the company sent executives on a $440,000 retreat to a posh California resort.
I want my money back!!!!
2TRILLION LOST IN RETIREMENT FUNDS!!
McCain better talk about the economy and leave that garbage at the landfill!!!!

This is one American veteran that does not appreciate these Fascist like attacks on the candidates instead of a clear and precise solution to this nation’s pressing problems.

How can Obama, the most liberal senator, appeal to the independents and moderate conservatives if he hasn’t ever shown any attempt to come to the middle?

oh look. more rhetoric. Obama can’t answer the question.

Tom Brokaw has too much makeup on.

Posted by: Lisa | October 7, 2008, 9:19 pm 9:19 pm

Two questions so far and neither candidate has answered the questions as posed. Each question requires the candidate to say what can be done NOW. History lessons are not needed; we all know what has happened. Quit holding forth and give specific answers. If you don’t have the answer, say so. At least be honest.

This is nothing new. Let’s get to the character and judgment discussion. Obama is a fraud and he needs to be called on it.

Posted by: Jonothan | October 7, 2008, 9:22 pm 9:22 pm

PLEASE stop denigrating each other and answer the questions! What can you do? What will you do? If you can’t answer the questions, this debate is useless and we should turn our televisions off.

McCain’s lithium just kicked in!

Posted by: Dorothy | October 7, 2008, 9:26 pm 9:26 pm

M Mendell: Did McCain said he will reduce home owner mortgage to market value so they can keep their home? My home loan is 135,000 but the market value is 88,000. reducing my home loan to 88,000 will work for me.

why dont we ask “why is gas over $4 a gallon when the price of Pb has dropped to less than $90?” or “what are they doing to hold people accountable for recent actions”

Posted by: GUYC | October 7, 2008, 9:34 pm 9:34 pm

McCain is playing too soft here, and holding back.
Obama stealing McCain’s point he made at the Faith Forum about after 9/11 getting more people involved in Peace Corps….what a fraud.
I never understand what the hell BO says…so “nuanced”.
He’s just throwing numbers around to screw with us.

Who’s drunk? Probably Joe Biden. Aw yeah! Go, Joe!

Posted by: Franconia | October 7, 2008, 9:34 pm 9:34 pm

Obama will not answer in specifics at all, why?? Every questioner is asking for specifics and he won’t give them.Is he afraid, he’ll offend some voters. This is not Presidential. Level with America. We want to hear the tough answers.

Did I hear Senator Mc Cain tell Oliver the black gent, that he probably never heard of Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac before the economic crisis? Since when did we stop spending money on instruments of education( the overhead projector)?

McCain was right in saying we don’t have to prioritize those three things mentioned…he can focus on all of them at once. You can’t tell someone about health care they have to wait until you handle the energy crisis.
McCain won that one.

Posted by: hanna | October 7, 2008, 9:37 pm 9:37 pm

When are they going to discuss the most important issue-abortion. Democrats want it to be legal. Do you know what they do (HOW THEY KILL A LIVE BABY) with partial abortions? Repulicans say it is wrong. That is correct,
Our social security system has lost th 40 MILLION BABIES that have been killed that are NOT paying into this system. ON judgement day, the blood of these babies are on our hands.
Also, they have not discussed where their money they have raised has come from. Obama has gotten most of his money from overseas-most of it from terroist countries.

Posted by: DEBY P | October 7, 2008, 9:37 pm 9:37 pm

Obama is an unpatriotic fraud and a liar. When will the American people see through him and notice the kind of people that he keeps company with.
McCain loves America and fought for America. Obama does not think America is Great, he thinks we should apologize to other countries – No way!

Posted by: Ann | October 7, 2008, 9:38 pm 9:38 pm

Posted by: jjoy | October 7, 2008, 9:40 pm 9:40 pm

Also, when the democrats get control, they are going to change our economy to a one world government. Obama says he is of the “WORLD” not of America.
Obama has many ties to the terroist coountries- check his past and the people arount him.

Posted by: Deby P | October 7, 2008, 9:41 pm 9:41 pm

The voters, whoever they’re for, deserve better than the infantile accusations and name-calling going on presently. Will these two men,in the remaining month be willing to stop mentioning their opponent’s name, record, and/or perceptions…and focus SOLELY on explaining their specific plans for energy, economics and health care? We should hear nothing but the hows, whens and whys of their solutions.

Posted by: Mike | October 7, 2008, 9:41 pm 9:41 pm

McCain WILL NOT RAISE TAXES ON ANY GROUP…..DON’T AMERICANS GET IT. If you tax the group Obama wants to RAISE taxes on there will be job loss, spending will stop and there will be a recession.
THIS AHOLE BO, KEEPS SAYING HE WILL BE CUTTING TAXES ON 95% OF THE PEOPLE AND 35% DON’T PAY TAXES NOW….HIS NUMBERS DON’T JIVE. HE IS SO FULL OF IT ON HIS ECONOMIC PLAN. HE HAS THE AMERICAN PEOPLE HOODWINKED AND HE WILL BAMBOOZLE US!

I want to know why neither candidate is addressing the specifics re: the lenders of this nation that were forced to lend to folks that should have NEVER been granted loans based on their ability to qualify – period! Regulations put in place to “help” the american people have forced the hands of lenders to lend to consumers who did not truly qualify. How is this going to be changed so that this situation never happens again?

Posted by: Mike, again | October 7, 2008, 9:46 pm 9:46 pm

When John McCain says “my friends” he actually means it. Obama, if he called a group of people “my friends,” it would be insincere. Obama only cares about himself.

If we pull out of a war wothout it being handled properly by the country we are fighting for, the Terroist will take over. You do not walk away from your allies- Jesus would step aside just to save the one that is lost. We turn our back on our allies, they will turn on us.

Posted by: hanna | October 7, 2008, 9:47 pm 9:47 pm

Quick question: How do either of these shemps plan to turn our national economy when we have fought a war for over 6 years and lowered taxes? Keep mortgaging the country and at some point we will be beyond screwed! Ask some kind of hard question like that. According to this debate we will have all this spending on energy, all of these new jobs, and all of these tax cuts. Spending = money, “jobs” = money, tax cuts = lack of money.

Has anyone thought about the millions they raise and what better use could be done with it? Rather that attack each other, how about helping out the people as they say they are for.
That money donated to food banks or school programs for our children or bulding new homes or money to programs that try to help the lees unfortunate.
A canidate that spends their money for a good cause for the people would show the American People that they are truly for us. Mudslinging gets them nowhere and waste millions of money.
How about canidates? Would you be willing to put your money where your mouth is?

I disagree with so many of you – I find it so refreshing to hear Obama talk. Simply stated: he’s intelligent. What a wonderful change from 8 years of Dubya. Sidenote: Obama is going to put his Harvard smarts to good use as he’ll be left with this ClusterF* of an economy that GWB left us with.
Also, loving the BBC poll that came out today. It will be wonderful to have global support of a president for a change…

I understand your concern with food banks, school programs and education. But, the latter is exactly what each of these candidates is spending their dollars on – educating the public about their beliefs and issues. And, hopefully, with the right president, Americans will donate to the food banks and community programs because, once again, they will have the income to spare.

Yes, but they also spend and waste their money on mudslinging and advertising. Some people do not have access to radio, internet or tv.
A canidate that would spend their money more wisely and not waste it- shows us they know how to put into action what they are talking about. They can afford to spare their money and help others. By doing this, they will garner more support and people will start to have faith in their country again.
People would feel about helping and suporting causes that they see their leaders supporting.

The Russians revolted and removed the Czar, the French had a revolution … and both boiled down to the misery the people were in while the leaders were living in opulence. Finally, the citizens rovolted. When are our leaders going to live on incomes based on the per capita of the people they represent. The people cannot be represented by those that do not live OR feel their pain in their own back yard. The government has insurance that satisfies their needs, but the people can’t have the same program. Our representatives vote their own incomes & have their expenses paid for, but the citizens do not receive the same option.
#2 … VA benefits. My 86 yr old, blind, deaf, vascular dementia, tremoring mother has been denied assisted living expense benfits. Based on the facts: married to her veteran husband for 40+ years, had 4 children by him, nursed him through MANY years of cancer before his death. After years as a widow, married a 2nd man, divorced him after a couple of years. If the years invested w/ each husband had been reversed, i.e. married a few years to the war veteran, married a 2nd time and was with him for 40 years … she would have qualified. This is wrong

Both candidates should be ashamed of themselves. This is supposed to be a town meeting and questions from the public should be answered. So far we have not heard any straight answers about the issues, just a lot of hot Washington air. It has been totally repetitive with the same old rhetoric and finger pointing. To be honest this is not very enlightening and an insult to the intellegnce of the American Public. A matter a fact it is so bad, I left for a while to dry the dishes!!!! Tonight, neither of these two deserve to be our leader if this is the way they are going to speak to the American Public!!!!!!

WE ALL GOT OUR FIRST JOBS FROM BUISNESS OWNERS WHO WILL BE LAYING OFF NOW BECAUSE OBAMA WILL TAX THAT GROUP, AND IT WILL JUST TRICKLE DOWN. I’m with you, I’ve been spending more time reading these posts than what the candidates are saying, because, as you said, they are just repeating the same old lines. Though, I must admit, I believe Mac has done a better job answering the questions – maybe because I hear him mention the questioner’s name? Helps, a bit, at least to think he is trying to relate.

It is nothing to do with color. It is where yhou stand on abortion. Kill babies or support life. That is the ultimate and only issue that counts.
If they say it is ok to kill a fetus, then what are those that pay thousands to inject their eggs with sperm to make a baby? Both sides can not be right. Either it is a fetus or not.

I am sure, even with all of his bumbles, ums, and uhs, the MSM will still give OB a wonderful review, after all, he is their Man. He has yet to gather his thoughts, brilliant though he is, into coherent sentences. He has been unable to come across, once again, to the average American, as someone relatable, and trust-worthy.

Posted by: Jill Renwick | October 7, 2008, 10:17 pm 10:17 pm

McCain has not answered one question. I think Jeremy and Jill are just shills posting ridiculous nonsense to appeal to stupid Americans that believe working 12 hours a day for minimum wage is a good thing.
Where are John’s POW buddies?
Why have we not caught bin laden?
Because the American people elected incompetence.
John says the American worker is great.
Then why are all the jobs being outsourced?
Because we are not cheap.
He does not address that issue at all.
Those who support Iraq, why aren’t you over there?
Why don’t you donate your money to pay for the Bush war?
Don’t worry, I already know the answer,

I don’t understand how anybody can honestly believe that McCain connects with people better? How can a man that is 3/4 dead related to the majority of the American voters? He can’t, his only point that he can make tonight is that Obama knows nothing. McCain doesn’t even answer the questions or explain how he’s going to “win” the war and “get” Bin Laden. Clearly he knows something if he’s attempting to dig the U.S. out of the deep hole that our current Republican administration has threw us in to. Obama also knows something if he’s willing to sit down and actually talk to the people that give the US issues. Talking to countries and not bombing countries will help end the hatred towards America and open communications lines that have been closed for way too long.
McCain is Bush Jr., there’s no doubt, and if Palin has to take over, the country is even more screwed.
And to any Hillary supporter that will back McCain/Palin doesn’t clearly understand Hillary, she wouldn’t support a former Democrat switching their vote to Republican because they didn’t get their candidate, Hillary still has a chance, and she will be and is a great ally for Obama. Just because Palin is a female doesn’t mean she represents the same values and goals that Hillary had. Obvioulsy you were never really interested in the change of this country if you’re willing to vote Republican.

Bill Clinton was on t.v. last week and said the dems didn’t want over sight of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. So, what I’m saying is Bill Clinton wasn’t helping Obama on this. I don’t need a lesson on this thank you very much. Don’t assume that I am a rep.

Roe vs wade gave the female the right to decide for herself what is going to happen with their own body. McCain/Palin want to take that right away from us. I was sexually assulted by my father and i found myself with child. I was able to have an abortion in a clean, safe and properly medically staffed clinic. According to McCain/Palin i would not be able to have gotten one and would have been forced to carry the child to term. How is that fair to me? Over-turn Roe vs Wade and we will be looking at back alley abortions and the death rate will double. Both mother and child will die.
As for McCain stating that he was going to run a clean, no negitive, issue only campaigne. Well, i am still waiting for him to do so.
Last but not least…lets talk about CHARACTER. McCain was married when he went into vietnam and found himself as a POW. Back home was the dutifull/FAITHFUL wife who waited for her soldier to come home. The glorous day comes and he is back home on american soil. She is overwhelmed with prid and joy. So; you would think he would be greatfull that she waited for him. Right. Right. Well heck what does she get? She gets a man who meets the young rich Cindy. He dumps the wife and marries the rich Cindy. Yep, that screams good above all else character.
Give me a break.
Wake-up folks.
McCains new motto: “Do what i say and don’t you dare question what i do.”

John stayed in Vietnam though he could have gone home
John is not the 3rd W and he will get Bin Laden (unlike Clinton who let him go when he was within sight)
Jobs are being outsourced because the democrats refuse to pass free trade agreements
I don’t think any of us support Iraq, but it is something that we have to deal with, and in the best way we can, not by cutting and running, but by making sure their gov is established and worthy of handling the situation. Why aren’t you there?
Why don’t you donate your money to pay for all of OBs new socialist policies?

I do not think the answer, as many Pubs do, that it is better just to quit helping people.
However, we should have checks and balances in place so the sytems are not being exploited.

I work in the office of a slickline svc that has been family owned for the past 3 generations – and with clients like Chevron, Exxon, Encana, etc – we keep our business up, we keep our jobs and we were able to open 3 shops throughout our state and a neighbor state! I think you have it wrong. I believe neither candidate answewred questions that the public asked. I have no intention of insulting americans who work 12 hours a day for minimum wage. Been there and did that as well as worked my way through college and paid back my education loans. Your questions are great, Why have we not found Bin Laden? It would appear that GW and DC had a premedidated idea of invading Iraq maybe e3ven before 9/11. Why don’t I pay for the war? Unfortunately I do. If I had my choice I would earmark my tax money for education and poverty alleviation and national development projects like roads, water systems, environmental improvement etc. My original comment was that I believe that the American Public deserved a better discussion. I feel that niether candidates did a good job. I found the debate boring. I am still going to vote for Obama. I am proud to be an American, Democrat and Liberal.

I’m for McCains health care program, he will not raise taxes on anyone and he will freeze spending. I believe these actions will stablize the jobs of many americans. I believe he has a clear understand of world problems. I trust him and those he will choose to help him govern. I think he will ask Americans to roll up their sleeves and get it done.
We went into Iraq because had we left Saddam uncontained he would have opened up Iraq to train terrorist to kill our boys and girls. If we don’t hold then the terrorists will regroup and we will have many of our soldiers killed by bombs. I trust Senator McCain.

My mother on more than one occassion that men/women of the cloth are only human and make mistakes just like the rest of us so when we go to church take what works for you home and leave the rest in the hands of GOD. I have taught that to my children also. Just because a reverand says something it does not mean you as a member of that church have to believe it. I am sure that mama obama taught her son along the same lines as my mom did with us. I would agree that it didn’t look good but then obama is also only human as is mccain. I would rather have a president that admitts his mistakes then one who doesn’t. Oh yea another thing…bash obama as much as you want but at least his wife didn’t hang out and campaigne with a group of people who want Alaska to become it’s own country, verbally say that she hates america and is ashamed to be called an american as Joe Palin did and said.

Jeremy, did not mean to insult you. I do not spend a lot of time on these blogs and then I realized I had taken things out of turn after some time and more reading.

I can’t believe that there are still posters so ignorant as to think Obama a)is a Muslim, b) gives a rats behind about anyones religion or wants to “convert” ANYONE! He’s a Baptist…I’m a Baptist…there is nothing mentioning virgins and heaven in any of my education in church. And if you want to talk about friends, does Keating ring a bell?
P.S. Hanna-Hillary is out…get over it

What experience does Mcain have to be president? He’s never been a president before you idiots! What about all the talk about Bill Clinton’s inexperience? Ms. Mary, maybe you should turn up your hearing aid. Obama clearly set the tone as Mcain piggybacked on everything that Obama said so again Mary everything that Mcain said that you understood was first said by Obama.

Obama’s plan for America in a nutshell. “Government is good.” “More government is better.” Elect me and I will block Republican attempts to drill for more oil, build new refineries and new nuclear power plants. I will increase your energy costs cause I think using 25% of all the oil in the world is unfair. I will kill economic growth and jobs by raising taxes on American business making the US less competitive in the world wide economy. The money I confiscate from American business will be funneled through a corrupt bloated bureaucracy. What little of the money is left I will than trickle back down to the “middle class” if they follow my authoritarian rules of the road as defined by my unrepentant terrorist buddy, Ayers. Obama: “You can’t drive your SUVs, eat all the food you want and keep your thermostats at 72 degrees all the time. I WON’T ALLOW IT” I understand now. Thank you Obama for making it crystal clear what you plan for America should you get elected.

If your business is not neting over 250K what are you doing running a non-profit organization?

I would like to comment on Obama’s statment on asthma. Yes, asthma is a treatable disease. It can also kill in a very short amount of time. I have asthma. My life was saved by some amazing doctors and nurses in an ER. As a matter of fact breathing problems are right behind level one trama. Asthma is a serious disease that should not be taken lightly. With asthma on the rise in our children in all areas of the country we need to have a better plan. Than to just make it so that the child can see his or her doctor. We need more urgent care centers. With qualified people. I could go on and on. I find the comment Obama made on the subject not to be a responcible one and frankly, I am angry. Neigher one of the canidates care about people like myself who are struggling to pay for medical bills on top of everything else. I have been under our form of social medicine and was treated less than human in many cases. I saw the same treatment for many other people. I have had to wait in line for 6 hours to get my medication at a pharmacy. Right after being in the ER. This is no way to treat people. After being able to get private insurance I was finally treating like a human being and not cattle. The sad thing is that I lost my job because of the asthma and now I am trying to get it back under control. Since, I can not work at the moment. I am forced to go back on low income healthcare or be a burden to my family while I fight my disease. I don’t want handouts. I just want to be able to pay a reasonable amount of money for quality medical insurance. I am ashamed of the way that this country has handled our business in all areas. This is no time to give us the same o’line. But, I am afraid that this is what we are going to get once again.

Brad,
I’m with you, but it’s not a not-for-profit organization, but for-profit business. Though, Obama’s statement that only 5% of small businesses make more than $250k cannot possible be factual. I’d have to research, but find that hard to believe. Even if he is referring to net and not gross, that small of a percentage seems a bit exaggerated.

Wow Jill, if we all could do what you do then there probably would not be any issues for us Americans to face.
Please lead us to the great enlightment oh Great One.
The problem is you are just full of promises and hot air.

It would be both prudent and patriotic for Obama to give back some of the millions of dollars he received from Freddie Mack.

Posted by: Brad Bastin | October 7, 2008, 11:22 pm 11:22 pm

Please, Steve, sarcastic sound bites are better left to the pundits. “I” am not full of promises and hot air, “I” believe in the american dream – and believe we, all americans, should help each other through service and kindness. (sarcasm forthcoming) Forgive me for being kind and a republican, I know it is a hard nut for you to swallow, but we are out here.

Obama will not answer in specifics, why?? Every questioner is asking for specifics and he won’t give them.Is he afraid, he’ll offend some voters. This is not Presidential. Level with America. We want to hear the tough answer, no matter what.
mccain won tonight because he has solutions

Posted by: joe | October 8, 2008, 12:02 am 12:02 am

John McCain won tonight imo.
Obama is full of hot air, and refused to answer in specifics. No wonder he is known as “All-Talk” Obama.
Even Hillary said all he has is a speech from 2004.

*ALERT: BARACK OBAMA STARTED HIS POLITICAL CAREER IN THE HOME OF A TERRORIST THAT BOMBS U.S. BUILDINGS & KILLED 2 POLICE OFFICERS IN THE BRINKS HOLD-UP

Posted by: Un-American Obama | October 8, 2008, 12:17 am 12:17 am

Obama was in touch with all, not just those he could personally identify with “military” the teacher mom, unemployed needed a pat on the back also. Nither of them can tell us what they are going to do until we see what Bush will do with the bail out and one of them have to clear up. you can only propose what you would do until you get in and see what needs cleaning up. I want to know when Bush will bail us out with the second round of money to help us live for today not next January 5th.

Obama avoided answering in specifics despite constantly being asked by questioners.
NOT PRESIDENTIAL at all.

John McCain has done exactly what I anticipated—continued to speak in circles and condescend. He consistently fails to present facts and tries to grin and “my friend” his way through the debate. It is almost unbearable to watch.
Barack Obama continues to articulate his plan calmly and clearly. There is absolutely no question he is the next leader of this country.

McCain acts like a spoiled brat. Just another lost politican.
I am American, who lives in Canada. Get your facts straight McCain about the trade agreements, and the damage that the oil sands in Alberta are doing to our enviroment. Oil from Canada is NOT okay just because its from Canada. I

Finally McCain takes his gloves off and acts really concerned instead of being the nice guy. Obama needs to be exposed. Character flaws, untrustworthy associations and platforms that do not add up to any real savings such as he claims, Obama is like a used car salesman, smooth and convincing.

My husband and I believe that John McCain did an excellent job tonight. He answered all the questions asked of him, unlike Obama including the question of face to face confrontation of mudslinging ads!!!

Obama did a Wonderful Job, has lots of knowledge, highly educated, and knows how to approach all people. He will be the the President!

At this time, McCain shows 141, if you add up all the states for him, it should be 143
