McCain Again Flubs Highlighted Attack Lines

No one ever said campaigning for president was easy, particularly in these last grueling few weeks.

Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., this week has been flubbing not just parts of his speeches, but the pivotal attack lines his campaign prepares reporters to film and record.

In Belton, Mo., Monday, McCain was supposed to say, "Just last night, Senator Biden guaranteed that if Senator Obama is elected, we will have an international crisis to test America’s new president. We don’t want a president who invites testing from the world at a time when our economy is in crisis and Americans are already fighting in two wars."

What he actually said, per ABC News’ Bret Hovell: "Just last night, Senator Obama (sic) guaranteed that if Senator Obama is elected, Senator Biden said, we will have an international crisis to test America’s new president," etc. etc.

He flubbed it again in the extended version of the attack.

"What’s more troubling is that Senator Obama (sic) told their campaign donors that when that crisis hits, they would have to stand with them because it wouldn’t be apparent Senator Obama would have the right response."

And this is from a teleprompter!

Today in Western Pennsylvania, per ABC News’ Jan Simmonds, McCain attempted to repudiate remarks about the area made by Rep. Jack Murtha, D-Pa., last week.

"There is no question that western Pennsylvania is a racist area," Murtha said. He later apologized, but yesterday he told WTAE-TV in Pittsburgh that "this whole area, years ago, was really redneck."

So McCain, sensing an opportunity, said the following.

Which probably couldn’t have gone worse:

"I think you may have noticed that Senator Obama’s supporters have been saying some pretty nasty things about western Pennsylvania lately," McCain said, as folks booed.

"You know," he continued, "I couldn’t agree with them more."

(Sound of crickets chirping.)

"I couldn’t disagree with you, I couldn’t agree with you more than the fact that western Pennsylvania is the most patriotic, most God loving, most patriotic part of America," McCain said. "And this is a great part of the country. My friends, I couldn’t agr–  I could not disagree with those critics more, this is a great part of America."

Yikes.

McCain is losing everything now. It started with his bearings and all the rest simply follows from that.

I’m becoming convinced that McCain is actually trying to lose this election.

I think he had a light attack during that rally. McCain badly needs a lot of rest. And a retirement. This is getting out of hand; he can no longer stand the pressure of badly losing this campaign.

ugh, Senator McCain is such a horrid tele-prompter reader. Good thing this election isn’t about teleprompter-reading (or is it?), else Sen. Obama would be the better candidate.

Just keep feeding the rage machine, Jake. Seems to me I remember a young fellow on the roof substituting for George S. flubbing his closing lines.
And that fellow had slept well.
What a pity…

Sounds like it’s becoming a bit too much for the old man.
Luckily enough, if he wins, there’s the brilliant Sarah Palin to take over negotiations with Russia, Pakistan, Iraq and China when the going gets too tough for McCain next year.
She has a passport now, so no problem.

All that you hear is that McCain attacked Biden…..IF the liberal media were not so biased in their reporting we would have the correct report…America is watching you guys and the misuse and abuse of your profession to influence this election….I hope it backfires on you bigtime!!

Olberman just finished talking about a republican group that paid for republican voter registrations at $5.00 a piece. Anybody know the name of the org? I think it was something like YPA, but I find no news on it.
Olberman mentioned that this new revelation is what has forced McCain to stop lying on Obama about ACORN. I’d really like to know more about this YPA group sponsored by some rich republican.

Since Sarah Palin can speak very well on the campaign trail, you shouldn’t be complaining about her being picked if that is your criteria.

It may be that “flubbing” attack lines is the best thing McCain and Palin can do right now. In September, CNN found that 41% of voters believed that McCain was attacking Obama “unfairly.” In October, the number increased to 60%.
The only thing this nonsense is doing is driving Independents and undecideds to Obama/Biden. NBC/Wall St. Journal today has Obama up by 10%. Pew has him up by 14%.

Just in case anyone is keeping track, the Fed is getting ready to go over the 700 billion bail out. And the bank’s are not using the money to free up the credit market, instead they are useing our tax dollars to buy up other bank’s and speculate in the stock market, trying to make back there losses. And the Fed is letting them.

Really I guess going negative on the issues, (which everybody agrees is fair game) is equal to going negative on character. Although the latter can be considered slander. John McCain’s slander to the White House.

oh snap. all what’s left for the mccain campaign now is to take advantage of any slip from the obama camp. see how they danced around Biden’s comment. Actually what Biden meant was that there might be a test , but the would would see that Obama got the spine to stand up to the threat. Now thats not like saying Obama is not upto task. What Mccain fail to understand is that he just scored zero on the “3am test” which was the sudden economic melt down. All he did was to become ERATIC AND POSITION CHANGING ON DAILY BASIS. He totally failed to have a firm grab of the problem. He lost that 3am call, my friends.

Something infinitely more interesting than McCain’s speaking ability: I didn’t know that Sarah Palin is such a big “welfare recipient” as Governor of Alaska — relying so much on state money to provide her kids exposure:

Posted by: teddymaniac | October 21, 2008, 9:40 pm 9:40 pm

McCain and Palin had better stop playing games and start listening if they want to win.
Our elected public servants are no longer listening to us. The bank bailout is not the only issue. The vast majority of American citizens have been against our continued presence in Iraq, against amnesty of illegal aliens, against more H-1B visas, against the continued shipment of our jobs offshore, and against more government growth and spending, but the government continues to support these things with legislation and to grow and spend. Almost half of us believe that 9/11 was an inside job, but no one is calling for an independent investigation. We want to wean ourselves from our dependence on foreign oil, but Congress and the Senate play with renewable tax credits like they are a volleyball. Who they are listening to is not clear, but it can only be surmised from looking at their lists of campaign contributions.

Questions:
Would you support a candidate who distributes money set aside for education to organizations that have little to do with education rather than to programs that show that they have helped students improve their math and science scores?
Would you support a guy that will increase taxes on elderly retired citizens.
Would you support a guy who has proven to have incorrect judgment on recent foreign policy issues?
Would you support a guy who has spent millions, yet there was no increase in the standard of living or improvement in the crime rate?
Would you support a guy who through his tax plan that may keep you from getting a raise and possibly getting you laid off?
Would you support a guy who financially supports those who support terrorism and racism?

McCain has been having a tough time zeroing in on a clear message. In part this is because he has changed his message so often and in part it is because he does seem a bit confused at times. Every time he tries to make a spontaneous remark he puts his foot in his mouth. The numerous times McCain has fumbled or mumbled himself into a corner over these past many weeks is alarming. Perhaps he is exhausted and this is just too much for him tro handle.

Obama gave millions to ACORN, rather than give the money designated for education to programs that show (have evidence) that they help students improve their math and science scores.
Obama wants to raise taxes on capital gains: This effects everyone’s 401k plan if there is any stock within that plan. It also effects those who sell their home in order to downsize. Many elderly depend on the money that comes from downsizing to fund their retirement.
Obama was incorrect on the surge and incorrect on how to deal with Russia when Russia invaded the country of Georgia. For those against Iraq: you may not like the reason for why we went in. But we have practically defeated Al Qaeda within that country, we got rid of a dictator who is responsible for the deaths of 500,000 people, we improved the lives of women within Iraq, we have funded schooling for children, and have provided a lot of humanitarian relief.
Obama spent millions in his little section of Chicago, yet standard of living, crime rate, and education did not improve.
If Obama taxes corporations that are already laying off workers, more will be laid off. If you raise taxes on income, small businesses will be adversely effected (especially those with 20 workers or more). If you work for one of these businesses it is likely that you will not receive a raise or you may be laid off because the cost of doing business went up. Or if you are thinking of starting a small business or own a small business you may think twice when you realize you will be taxed for not providing health care benefits. Most small businesses lose money in the first few years, if you lose even more because of taxes most would think twice before starting or continuing their business.
Obama gave $70,000 to Rashid Khalidi who ran an organization that supports anti-western terrorism and prays for a second holocaust. Thus Obama legitimized Khalidi’s power and ideals.

Republican party is the party of division. The Democratic party is the party of inclusion. The republican party relies on division to win elections. That why they always use wedge issues to pit one group of americans against another. They pit black against white, straight vs gay, well off vs struggling american, old vs young, city vs suburb/rural. big cities vs small towns, pro gun vs anti gun, pro life vs pro choice, etc. That’s the republican playbook, they have to pit us against each other to win and they have become experts at it. It’s up to voters to penalized them for their behavior and ruining our great nation.

I think Mac may be relating to this news as Biden and Barack are also.
NB. Sen. Biden’s additional words in Seattle: “Remember I said it standing here if you don’t remember anything else I said. Watch, we’re gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy.”
From the net surf I did .
Military sources cite the new US timeline: By late January, 2009, Iran will have accumulated enough low-grade enriched uranium (up to 5%) for its “break-out” to weapons grade (90%) material within a short time. For this, the Iranians have achieved the necessary technology. In February, they can move on to start building their first nuclear bomb.
US intelligence believes Tehran has the personnel, plans and diagrams for a bomb and has been running experiments to this end for the past two years. The UN International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna last week asked Tehran to clarify recent complex experiments they conducted in detonating nuclear materials for a weapon, but received no answer.
The same US evaluation adds that the Iranian leadership is holding off its go-ahead to start building the bomb until the last minute so as to ward off international pressure to stop at the red line.
This development together with the galloping global economic crisis will force the incoming US president to go straight into decision-making without pause on Day One in the Oval Office. He will have to determine which urgent measures can serve best for keeping a nuclear bomb out of the Islamic republic’s hands – diplomatic or military – and how to proceed if those measures fail.
His knowledge of the challenge colored Sen. Biden’s additional words in Seattle: “Remember I said it standing here if you don’t remember anything else I said. Watch, we’re gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy.”
Israel’s political and military leaders also face a tough dilemma that can no longer be put off of whether to strike Iran’s nuclear installations militarily in the next three months between US presidencies before the last window closes, or take a chance on coordination with the next president.
Waiting for the “international community” to do the job of stopping Iran, as urged by governments headed by Ariel Sharon and Ehud Olmert – and strongly advocated Tzipi Livni, foreign minister and would-be prime minister – has been a washout. Iran stands defiantly on the threshold of a nuclear weapon.

I wonder how flusterd he will be answering to the fact the McCain campaign is spending enormous amounts on the Palin’s family wardrobe!!
Sarah Palin speaks of the Washinton elite and shows sympathy towards the poor folks hurting as a result of the economy. Yet it appears ,according to Politico’s Ben Smith, that the McCain campaign has spent upwards of $150,000 to clothe and accessorize Palin and her family in one month alone…wonder what Joe the Plumbers would think of that!! Not a great message to the vast majority of folks out there who are struggling to keep their homes & the bills paid!! I guess freezing spending only applies to others in these difficult times!!

It amazes me how worried voters are about corporations paying taxes. They have had 8 years worth of tax cuts which haven’t been paid for, just take a look at the defecit. There are any number of tax loopholes and tax breaks out there, all they need is a good accounntant and I’d bet they’ve got one and a lawyer on retainer, too. I’m not concerned for them, I’m concerned for the patrons of those companies. Let’s not forget, the principal of economics. It’s supply and demand. If average americans are unable to afford product, how will businesses increase their revenue?
Now, let’s address small businesses: 97% of small business make less than $250,000 in taxable income. Of the 3%, their taxes would increase only to the level paid in the 90′s(which is approximately 3-5% more). We decry about how government bailed out washington but, investing in states and in the middle class is wrong? It doesn’t make sense. Some say the tax rebates will increase our national debt but, a tax cut does the same thing the only difference is that those who make more get more! Yet when companies go hog wild, we’re expected to pay for it because we CAN’T NOT do it!! What kind of sense does that make! How well has that theory worked for you?

This site is really raising my blood pressure. I may have to swear off for a while.
For openers, while McCain may have flubbed those lines at one event (I have no reason to doubt your reporter), he definitely did not flub them at other stops in the day. I have seen him in clips on cable shows saying the very things you say he was “supposed to” say.
But more troubling is the mix of items Jake is running these days. McCain is flubbing his lines– Obama can dance– Palin is wasting money on clothes– Biden is so amusing when he rambles. This is getting tedious.
Stop the coronation. Vote McCain/Palin.

when will you stop? ARe you being paid by Obama? Are you just one big commercial for Obama? Seriously, I am not kidding. When did you sacrifce your journalistic integrity? I know you are owned by Disney, but comeon , at least your news should not be a fairy tale.
STOP IT, ABC, STOP IT. Even Iran’s news media is less biased than you are.

Funny, isn’t it, that now that Palin is doing lots of press and SNL and such, and showing the american people she’s not the clueless idiot the media portrayed her as early on, we now get “scandals” about her expenses to focus on. Wouldn’t want to turn our attention to Mr. Biden’s bizarre talk about international crises or Mr. Obama’s suspect donors or ACORN’s latest misadventures, now would we?
As someone else said, every candidate mangles their lines. I seem to remember The CHosen One talking in the debate about not being “green behind the ears.” And he is infamous for the frequency with which he screws up the names of the towns he is in. Ah, well, they move around so much, it’s understandable, they say. But McCain has an off performance and we’re all over that.
Double standard much? I should be used to it by now, but I’m not.

How did we ever get to such a low point in our history. Oh, thats right.. Bush.

And Palin is not smart. I was getting a little upset when everyone started using the “lipstick on a pig” line and I thought “How dare they insult pigs.”

McCain is a decent and intelligent man. Unfortunately he is overwhelmed. The Palin fiasco, however, is of his own doing. His campaign spends more time trying to undo the damage than to gain ground. This election will help cleanse the party of whackos. The USA needs two healthy and inclusive national parties in 2012.

With Senator Biden, Senator Kerry and Cong, Murtha spewing out very hateful, stupid and racist words, why would any intelligent person vote for the Democrats at this time. The answer is, they will not. Only the weak minded and uninformed person will be voting for the socialist (spread the wealth around) candidate. He is losing points in some polls. Obama will not and can not tell the truth, ever. It is not in his mindset. Neither Clinton nor Biden thinks Obama is qualified. Those voting for him have their hands out, waiting for their hand-outs or freebies.
The Democrates are responsible for our economic crises and with their spend policies, it will become worse. Obama is wrong for this country. Obama is a SOCIALIST, RACIST, MARXIST.

After the BIG Powell endorsement on Sunday, this is just to looking like a bad week for you and the rest of the Republicans, huh?
Well as you ERRATICALLY shift from position to position, from attack to different attack on a daily basis, it doesn’t look good for you anymore…
Just think on Thursday you are going to get your A** handed to you by Obama’s Grandma!!!!

the truth comes out: Biden makes a HUGE gaffe (bigger than usual) about Obama threatening our national security, and both NBC and ABC sit on the story! And yet, they have no trouble talking about Palins’ wardrobe as front page news?
Honestly, no matter what side you are on, we all should be angered by the loss of integrity of our so called journalists. What happenned? It’s all just so absurd now, we used to be able to trust you, and now, how can we?
BTW, several WSJ articles have called Obama’s tax plan “Nonsense”. It is WELFARE. And in terms of taxing corporations, Ireland taxes it’s corporations 12.5%, and their GDP per capita is second highest in the EU. If we raise our taxes on the corporations, as Obama wants to do, where do you think they will go? Less wages for Americans, less jobs for Americans.
Do you really think that the 5% is going to pay for all that big spender Obama wants to do? We are headed for a financial disaster with Obama. Not if another country “tests the mettle” of Obama first. As big mouth Biden says, Obama will face the Armegeddon that he brought on himself.
God help us.
The facts are clear: Obama will destroy America.

The campaign trail has grayed Obama’s hair and he is a young man. The marks that McCain have earned in his fight to the White House run deeper than gray hair. This has been a grueling race and since McCain is older he has experienced an accelerated growth process under great pressure.
McCain is tired; we only have two more weeks to go. This country needs a rest in order to mend itself after McCain’s and several states’ divisive GOP campaign tactics.
A few weeks ago McCain addressed his rally by saying, “My fellow prisoners” instead of my fellow citizens or Americans…but definitely not prisoners:

As an older person – I believe I see things much differently than the hot-blooded crusading bunch on these boards.
I’ve long left my anger behind and replaced it with REASON and RATIONALE
This country produces scholars, geniuses and Nobel prize winners. However, they are not the ones who run for political office.
Why? I believe it is because the ones described above are not motivated by power, money or fame.
Therefore, I often ponder…. are those who are motivated by the latter description the manner of men [and now women] we are left with to guide our country?
Probably so – but now and then one comes along who strikes a special cord -and stands out among the other fist waving, name calling candidates.
We may not know all we would like to know, he may not have been in public service for many years…yet we see and feel something right about him. Some of us make a decision from the heart believing he will guard our rights as people and guard our country from harm -
The others who lust too hard for this leadership make some of us very uncomfortable.
A man’s character is the measure of his life. McCain’s campaign’s willingness to bring the opponent to his knees with destructive character assasination – has instead, exposed the shallowness of their own character.
In the early years of this country- one respected the elders. And the elders respected the new generation by “passing the torch” and trusting that it will be carried with pride. That seems to have faded into the past.
BUT picture this:
Just because an older man gets to be president of this country does NOT mean he will be calling all the shots. It is conceivable that today, in this country, the elder candidate does not want to pass the torch – Why? Maybe he SELLS the torch to the highest
bidder[s] – and the bidder[s] [in that party] actually run the country.
All we would see is photo opps of the president and a few speeches- but ……..you fill in the blanks.
With Obama– it will be the REAL DEAL.

I am disgusted with my former political party of five decades, the GOP. The robocalls go too far and they’re trying to start a cultural war. How will that win votes? I just read a comment where someone mentioned that ever since Palin became “popular” with SNL and all the Democrats “shifted” their attack. You don’t think that it maybe had something to do with the fact that the report that’s been pending about her possibly abusing her position finally came out? Couldn’t be. Must be evil democrat magic. And Obama’s mysterious overseas contributions?… Show me any election with any candidate that there isn’t some big flap about campaign finances. It isn’t important, ACORN isn’t important (or directly connected with Obama), and even this article isn’t important to the election. They’re just noting that McCain is already way behind, and he’s not holding it together to come back. McCain is a decent guy (for a non-Arab, cough cough) but he knows he’s losing in an uphill battle. I just wish some of the people voting for him knew how to lose with some poise and dignity.

HIGH PROFILE Feminists (yes, feminists!!) Endorse Palin (McCain/Palin)
PALIN HENDERSON, NV RALLY
LIVE
HENDERSON, NV
At a rally in front of thousands of cheering supporters, Palin spent
most of her speech talking about women. She started by mentioned some
female endorsements: First, Prameela Bartholomeusz a small business
owner and a member of the Democratic National Platform Committee…Linda
Klinge the former Oregon president and now Vice-President of the
National Organization of Women…Shelly Mandell President of the Los
Angeles chapter of the National Organization of Women here with us today
and Lynn Rothschild you may have seen her on television a whole lot
lately. She is a member of the Democratic Platform Committee. She is
with us here today and Elaine Lafferty a former editor in chief of Ms.
magazine they are here today to endorse the McCain-Palin campaign.”
The women were all sat behind Palin on the stage and she then said that
the Democratic ticket “presumptuous” thinking that they have won the
women’s vote. She brought back her glass ceiling line and hit BHO for
not considering HRC and compared to the problems of the average working
woman: “When it came time for choosing someone how Barack Obama just
couldn’t bring himself to pick the woman who got 18 million votes in his
primary and that seems to be too familiar a story isn’t it? How it is
for so many American women that the qualifications are there, but for
some reason the promotion never comes. There is always some long
explanation for why they got passed over or some unseen barrier, some
excuse and that’s just one of the things I so admire about John McCain
he is not someone who makes excuses.”
She then asked why there has only been two women on presidential tickets
in American history: “Why did it take 24 years, an entire generation
from the time Geraldine Ferraro made her pioneering bid until the next
time that a woman was asked to join a national ticket. In the long
history of our country 74 people have held the position of President or
Vice-President and why have the major parties given America only two
chances to even consider a woman for either office?”
She hit BHO for not paying women as much as men his Senate office: “Out
on the stump he talks a good game about equal pay for equal work, but
according to the Senate pay roll records women on his own staff get just
83 cents for every dollar that the men get. That’s 9,000 dollars less
every year that he pays the guys. 17:06 Does he think that the women
aren’t working as hard? Does he think that they are 17 percent less
productive? And Barack Obama cant say that this is just the way that its
always been done around the Capitol, because I know one senator who
actually does pay equal wages for equal work, Sen. John McCain.”
Hit BHO on his tax plan, but gave it a female peg: “”17:09:19 The
working women of this country, those who work inside the home and
outside of the home, they’re overlooked by politicians in Washington and
Barack Obama hasn’t given us a single reason to believe that he would be
any better. A company’s balance sheet tallies up just the same whether
it’s a man who owns the business or a women (sic). And women want the
same opportunities as men. And they’re entitled to the same rewards.”
She praised Title IX and also promised that is she becomes
Vice-President she will help women across the world: “there are still
places where women are subjugated and persecuted as they were in
Afghanistan, places we’re they’re bullied and brutalized and murdered in
honor killings, places where women are sold
like commodities in the nightmare world of the sex trade, and places
where baby girls are unwelcome as a matter of state policy and their
mothers are forced to have abortions. Now no one person, no one leader,
can bring an end to all of those ills, to all of the injustices
inflicting upon women, but I can promise you this, if I am elected,
these women, too, will have an advocate and a defender in the 47th vice
president of the United States.”
See below for time codes and verbates
VERBATES:
ENDORSEMENTS:
“Today I have another question that is especially for the women in this
audience and all across our great country. Its–are you ready to break
the highest, hardest glass ceiling in America? (cheers).”
“It is such an honor for me today to have up here on stage some very
independent, very courageous, very accomplished women and I am so
honored to get to introduce you to these women who have broken a few
glass ceilings of their own and I ask you gals to stand up here as I
introduce you. 17:00:35 First, Prameela Bartholomeusz a small business
owner and a member of the Democratic National Platform Committee. She’s
with us today. (Cheers.) It is my honor to have with us also Linda
Klinge the former Oregon president and now Vice-President of the
National Organization of Women. She’s with us here today and Shelly
Mandell President of the Los Angeles chapter of the National
Organization of Women here with us today and Lynn Rothschild you may
have seen her on television a whole lot lately. She is a member of the
Democratic Platform Committee. She is with us here today and Elaine
Lafferty a former editor in chief of Ms. magazine they are here today to
endorse the McCain-Palin campaign.”
“We’re honored. We are proud and I thank them for their confidence, for
their support and especially for their courage. Thank you so much. Thank
you thank you.”
17:02:20 “Our opponents think that they have the women’s vote all locked
up which is a little presumptuous. Little presumptuous since only our
side has a woman on the ticket so. We won’t ignore any of the men in the
audience but again this is for the women in the audience here. When it
came time for choosing some how Barack Obama just couldn’t bring himself
to pick the woman who got 18 million votes in his primary and that seems
to be too familiar a story isn’t it? How it is for so many American
women that the qualifications are there, but for some reason the
promotion never comes. There is always some long explanation for why
they got passed over or some unseen barrier, some excuse and that’s just
one of the things I so admire about John McCain he is not someone who
makes excuses.”
HRC NOT VETTED/ONLY TWO FEMALE CANDIDATES ON A TICKET:
17:03:13 “You’ve got to ask yourself why was Senator Hillary Clinton not
even vetted by the Obama campaign? Why did it take 24 years, an entire
generation from the time Geraldine Ferraro made her pioneering bid until
the next time that a woman was asked to join a national ticket. In the
long history of our country 74 people have held the position of
President or Vice-President and why have the major parties given America
only two chances to even consider a woman for either office? 88 years
after women gained the right to vote and 83 years after Nellie Tayloe
Ross of Wyoming became the first woman governor in our great nation and
60 years after Margaret Chase Smith was elected to the Senate this glass
ceiling it–it is still there, but it’s about time that we shattered
that glass ceiling once and for all. (Cheers.) 17:04:40 See-see–see
there is a difference–there is a difference between what Barack Obama
says and what he does and his primary opponent wasn’t the first one to
notice this.
BHO EQUAL PAY:
Out on the stump he talks a good game about equal pay for equal work,
but according to the Senate pay roll records women on his own staff get
just 83 cents for every dollar that the men get. That’s 9,000 dollars
less every year that he pays the guys.
17:06 Does he think that the women aren’t working as hard? Does he think
that they are 17 percent less productive? And Barack Obama cant say that
this is just the way that its always been done around the Capitol,
because I know one senator who actually does pay equal wages for equal
work, Sen. John McCain..
See this is just another reason why American women, Democrat,
Republican, independent, should not just let Barack Obama take their
votes for granted. And let me give you a few more reasons, starting with
his plan to, as he puts it, spread the wealth around. That is how our
opponent defended his so called tax cut to Joe the plumber the other
day. Or Wendy the plumber’s daughter, there you go. Now this spreading
the wealth around really is just a scheme for income distribution. Joe
didn’t buy it. Joe the plumber, he would have none of that. He called
him on it. In fact he said that he sure thought that sounded like
socialism. Joe the plumber.
WOMEN SMALL BUSINESSES/BHO TAX PLAN:
17:07:52 And the rest of us shouldn’t buy it either, especially the
millions of women in America who own small businesses. Women start as
many new businesses as men start, and they are entrepreneurs, trying to
make a better life for themselves and for their families. And trying to
make payroll for their employees. They’re women, just like Erma Aggier
(sp) is her name, she owns a restaurant close by. She dreamed for years
of owning her own restaurant and she made it just a year ago. Erma, she
owns the La Madonna Mexican Restaurant, right here in Las Vegas. She
employs 20 people.
17:08:33 And she’s exactly the kind of small business owner whose taxes
would go way up under the Obama tax plan. And the healthcare fines and
the mandates that our opponent would impose aren’t gonna help her much
either. They’re gonna force her to let employees go if they are too high
and they could even put her out of business. And our opponent thinks
he’s got problems with Joe the Plumber, well, he should talk to Erma the
restaurant owner, because she’s voting for John McCain too.
17:09:19 The working women of this country, those who work inside the
home and outside of the home, they’re overlooked by politicians in
Washington and Barack Obama hasn’t given us a single reason to believe
that he would be any better. A company’s balance sheet tallies up just
the same whether it’s a man who owns the business or a women (sic). And
women want the same opportunities as men. And they’re entitled to the
same rewards.
17:09:50 See, the point here, the point here is that women would suffer
just as much from the massive tax increase that Sen. Obama proposes. And
you know, there are a lot of families in this country with no father
present. And when we make laws in Washington, those laws need to
understand that, they need to serve the mothers who are taking care of
their families.
17:10:13 I’ve been very, very blessed to have a husband who’s supported
me along the way. He’s a great dad who doesn’t disappear at bath time or
run from diaper duty, and I appreciate that. But a lot of women have it
much, much harder than I’ve had it. And they need child care, which
today can cost some families a third of their household budget. And they
need reforms in labor laws that allow greater flexibility in the
workplace, including more tele-commuting. And they need a tax code that
doesn’t penalize working families. (applause)
They need health care that the family can take with them when they move
or change jobs. And they need better choices in retirement plans, and
worker retraining when things get tough. Women also need equal pay for
equal work, and not just be a talking point (applause)
17:11:30 Really, it is that simple. It’s a matter of fundamental
fairness — fairness in this country. And to make all this happen,
working mothers need an advocate, and they will have one when this
working mother is working for all of you in the White House. (applause)
TITLE IX:
17:11:50 “When I was a kid, Congress passed a law that’s come to be
known as Title IX. And that law allowed millions of girls to play
sports. And over time, and over time, that opened more than just the
doors to the gymnasium. Along with other reforms, Title IX helped us to
see ourselves and our futures a different way. Women of my generation
were allowed finally to make more of our own choices with education,
with career, and I have never forgotten that we owe that opportunity to
women, to feminists who came before us. We were allowed to be
participants instead of just spectators on the achievements of others.
And I was lucky to have a lot of support at home, too. Now among the
many things that I owe my parents is one simple lesson, and that was
this is America and every woman can walk through every door of
opportunity. The belief in equal opportunity is not just the cause of
feminists, it’s the creed of our country-equal opportunity.
HELPING WOMEN AROUND THE WORLD:
17:13:30 “And if I’m given the honor of serving you in the White House,
I intend to advance that creed in our own nation and beyond because
across the world, there are still places where women are subjugated and
persecuted as they were in Afghanistan, places we’re they’re bullied and
brutalized and murdered in honor killings, places where women are sold
like commodities in the nightmare world of the sex trade, and places
where baby girls are unwelcome as a matter of state policy and their
mothers are forced to have abortions. Now no one person, no one leader,
can bring an end to all of those ills, to all of the injustices
inflicting upon women, but I can promise you this, if I am elected,
these women, too, will have an advocate and a defender in the 47th vice
president of the United States.”

Michelle Obama chose a small local business woman to design her clothes. Sarah Palin chose Saks Fith Avenue (of Wall Street), Neiman Marcus and Macy’s to pay for clothes using $150,000 of McCain’s public financing. So much for getting rid of the pork, Sarah. So much for helping small businesses Sarah!

Isn’t anyone concerned with Palin’s connection with the Alaska Independence Party? They are a separatist militia. Their founder and president was killed in a botched attempt to buy plastic explosives in 1993. This same blog just reported that the following year Palin attended their convention. The next year, her husband, Todd Palin, joined and began his long affiliation with them. To cap it off, you can all watch Palin’s videotaped introduction to the AIP’s 2008 convention.
And she is talking about “Real America”?
While I wholly condemn the comments of Rev. Wright, you’ve GOT to listen to the recorded comments of the AIP and their founder. SCARY stuff. Really. They hate us.

The Republican voters, YPM (Young Political Majors), has been caught at voter fraud.
Democratic National Committee: John McCain and Republican Party Must End Hypocrisy on Voter Registration Fraud and Sever Ties with Tainted GOP Operatives Immediately
Oct. 21, 2008
WASHINGTON, Oct 21, 2008 /PRNewswire-USNewswire via COMTEX/ — Arrest of GOP Operative Raises Questions of Hypocrisy
On a conference call today, the National and California State Democratic Parties called on the Republican Party to end their hypocrisy on voter registration fraud and sever all ties with long-time GOP Operative Mark Jacoby. Jacoby is the owner of Young Political Majors (YPM) who was arrested in California last weekend on two counts of voter registration fraud and two counts of perjury. Jacoby faced allegations of voter fraud in 2004 when he worked for Arno Political Consultants. YPM is currently under contract with the California State Republican Party to register voters. John McCain’s California Co-Chair is also a leading supporter of the CA Republican State Party’s voter registration efforts. Just yesterday, campaign finance reports revealed that the McCain-Palin campaign and the RNC have paid Nathan Sproul, a Republican operative who has faced numerous charges of unethical and potentially illegal activity surrounding voter registration.
“We’ve made it clear that we don’t and won’t tolerate voter registration fraud,” said DNC Communications Director Karen Finney. “But this exposes the absolute hypocrisy of John McCain and the Republican Party and their same-old Washington tactics. Over the past few weeks we’ve heard John McCain denounce voter fraud on the campaign trail while the RNC hurls false attacks, so the question is: where is the outrage now?”
[...]
The following are the facts on the McCain campaign and RNC’s connection to Questionable GOP Operatives:
MCCAIN CAMPAIGN STEERED $175,000 TO COMPANY NOTORIOUS FOR SUPPRESSING THE VOTE:
McCain’s Campaign Directed $175,000 To Lincoln Strategy, Whose Managing Partner Nathan Sproul Has Been Investigated On Multiple Occasions For Suppressing Democratic Voter Turnout. “John McCain’s campaign has directed $175,000 to the firm of a Republican operative accused of massive voter registration fraud in several states. According to campaign finance records, a joint committee of the McCain-Palin campaign, the RNC and the California Republican Party, made a $175,000 payment to the group Lincoln Strategy in June for purposes of ‘registering voters.’ The managing partner of that firm is Nathan Sproul, a renowned GOP operative who has been investigated on multiple occasions for suppressing Democratic voter turnout, throwing away registration forms and even spearheading efforts to get Ralph Nader on ballots to hinder the Democratic ticket. … That Sproul would come under the employment umbrella of the McCain campaign — the Republican National Committee has also separately paid Lincoln Strategy at least $37,000 for voter registration efforts this cycle — is not terribly surprising. Sproul, who has donated nearly $30,000 to McCain’s campaign, has been in the good graces of GOP officials for the past decade despite charges of ethical and potentially legal wrongdoing.” [Huffington Post, 10/20/08]
Lincoln Strategy Is Paid By California Republican Party/V8 Committee That Is Funded By McCain Victory California. Lincoln Strategy is paid by the California Republican Party/V8 committee that has been funded by McCain Victory California. McCain Victory California is a joint fundraising committee of the RNC, the McCain campaign and the CA GOP. [FEC]
MARK JACOBY ARRESTED ON “SUSPICION OF COMMITTING VOTER REGISTRATION FRAUD:”
Young Political Majors Owner Mark Anthony Jacoby Arrested On “Suspicion Of Committing Voter Registration Fraud.” “Mark Anthony Jacoby, who owns the firm known as Young Political Majors (YPM), was arrested after allegedly registering himself to vote, once in 2006 and again in 2007, at an address where did not live.

During a week in which the Republican ticket is trying to highlight its connection to the working class and promoting its newest campaign tool, Joe the Plumber, it was revealed that Palin’s fashion budget for several weeks was more than four times the median salary of an American plumber ($37,514).
To put it another way: Palin received more valuable clothes in one month than the average American household spends on clothes in 80 years.

You wrote, :”While I wholly condemn the comments of Rev. Wright, you’ve GOT to listen to the recorded comments of the AIP and their founder. SCARY stuff. Really. They hate us.” Oh, please. The difference is that Obama spend 20 years in the pews of the WRight church and, before he threw him under the bus, said the man was his spiritual mentor. They are connected. Sarah Palin has nothing to do with the AIP. She spoke on videotape to an AIP convention held in her city when she was mayor. Are you going to hold Mayor Bloomberg accountable for the actions of every organization that holds a convention in NYC? NOpe. Let’s not manufacture false equivalences.

The Big Question About Barack Obama
Is Barack Hussein Obama Mr. Magoo or the Manchurian (or Mansourian) Candidate?
Is the Democratic nominee a man who knew nothing, saw nothing, understood nothing … about Bill Ayers, Jeremiah Wright, Michael Pfleger, Louis Farrakhan, Khalid Al-Mansour, Tony REZKO, ACORN … or a created agent of … Islamic … influence?
Given Obama’s history of radical …fraudulent and racist … associations … and the mainstream media’s refusal to take them seriously … one wonders.

ACORN Watch: Project Vote, partisan antics, and illegality
Well, lookee here. The New York Times, of all places, reports on an internal assessment of ACORN’s shady relationships with its affiliates and its inextricable ties to Obama’s old employers at Project Vote.
For months, ACORN watchers have laid out the incestuous ties between the two groups.
Now, ACORN’s own inside review lays out the questions of illegality. Oh, and there’s that million-dollar embezzlement issue. And the IRS breathing down the fraud-friendly group’s neck.

Police departments in cities across the country are beefing up their ranks for Election Day, preparing for possible civil unrest and riots after the historic presidential contest.
GUESS WHAT ??
Public safety officials said in interviews with The Hill that the election, which will end with either the nation’s first black president or its first female vice president, demanded a stronger police presence.
Some worry that if Barack Obama loses and there is suspicion of foul play in the election, violence could ensue in cities with large black populations.

MONEY FIRST !
Obama to media: pony up for election night access
“(Crain’s) — The best-funded political campaign in American history says news organizations will have to pay — in some cases almost $2,000 each — if they want to cover Barack Obama’s election-night celebration in Chicago.
A memo sent to news organizations on Tuesday by the Obama campaign says credentials will cost $715 to $1,815, depending on whether electrical and phone lines are needed and whether an indoor or outdoor seat is requested for the event, which is expected to be held outside the evening of Nov. 4 in Grant Park.
The only free admissions are for a “general media” area. But, the memo says, “Please note that the general media area is outdoors, unassigned and may have obstructed views . . . standing room only.”
The area also does not include access to top Obama campaign officials, whose statements likely are to be in hot demand on Election Night. They apparently will be available only in the “press file” tent, to which an additional admission fee of $935 per person is being imposed. “

Thanks for the info, usedtolovemccain. I’m quite sure the DNC has all of this and it is to their (and Obama’s) credit that they haven’t brought much of it out, except the bit about charles keating, even after Palin’s blabbering about “palin(g) around with terrorists”. Clearly Obama is a man of decent principles. God willing America will finally elect a president worthy of the job. And God bless General Colin Powell for asking the right question, the question any American who truly believes in the Constitution should ask: “So what if Obama is a Muslim?”

McCain’s problem is that he has trouble saying something he doesn’t actually believe. McCain lost his chance for victory when he stopped speaking from the heart and started following his campaign staff strategy. An American hero turned puppet is a tragedy.

McCain’s never been accused of being a master of the English language or able to speak with any kind of authority or confidence. When the Republicans look back on this race while Obama is being sworn in they’ll analyze and scrutinize everything that went wrong this election from the robocalls to the flubbed lines from their candidates…
…and do it again in 4 years.

That has been one of the problems with McCain since the start of the campaign. He is simply inarticulate and incoherent at times. As a result, he inspires no one who isn’t already behind him…..He cannot make this arguments in clear, coherent manner to influence those that don’t agree…

Being from Western PA, did McCain say I was a racist and disagreed then that I am patriotic?? What in the world is he trying to say anyway? I hope the media jumps on this the way they misinterpreted Biden’s statement about the new president being tested. BTW, I think they don’t let the general public know when McCain or Palin are coming anymore, because then they get a larger group of protesters outside than supporters inside. I also found it interesting that I am an Independent voter, the group McCain-Palin are allegedly courting and the McCain campaign has never once sent me data or ask for my vote – I started receiving Obama literature from early in the election and kept receiving it regularly. So are they really interested in the Independents here or putting on a show?

Nothing like “twisting the truth” when you’re “blowing in the wind”! McCain is stumbling toward the finish line of a huge campaign LOSS where the loss will not only include his hopes of a win, but will also include his loss of “integrity, morality honesty, and decency”.

To All Republicans:
One day a father heard his two sons arguing outside. Upon investigation he found his young son standing in a freshly dug hole.
“What’s going on here ?” he asked.
“Well,” replied the older son, ” we got into an argument about who was taller, so I dug this hole and made him stand in it to prove I am the taller.”
“Why,” asked the father, “Didn’t you stand on the pile?”
“Don’t put others down to make yourself look good” admonished the father, ” but rather shine on your own merits”

I can’t believe how many people are harping and carrying on about a raise in the taxes for the top 5%…those earning $250,000 and above per year. My first question to those of you that’re calling Senator Obama a socalist. Have ANY of you actually done the math on the tax increase? My guess would be no. Once again, for all you earning a quarter of a million dollars per year (remember, that’s who’ll be effected in the tax increase). Let’s just say I earn $280,000 annually after business expenses. I’m married and filing jointly. Under Obama, my itemized deductions would actually increase slightly — I’d get $49,420 in itemized deductions, while under McCain I’d get $48,975. But my personal exemptions would increase slightly under McCain — he’d give me $6,911, whereas I’d only get $6,132 from Obama.
That leaves my taxable income at $213, 766 under Obama, $213,433 under McCain. Now we have to factor in the bracket cutoff, which for 2009 is $208,850. Anything below that figure for married couples filing jointly is taxed at the fourth tier, 28 percent.
As you can see, my taxable income is about $5,000 higher than the cutoff. McCain is going to tax that $5,000 at the current rate, which is 33 percent. But Obama’s crazed plan calls for raising that rate to — get ready for it — 35 percent.
And here’s what this means. Under McCain, my total tax bill would be $48,254. Under Obama, it would be $48,511.
That’s a difference of $257

To whomever said Sarah Palin’s only involvement with the Alaska INDEPENDENCE Party was giving a speech — how can you be so deceptive? Sarah’s husband, Todd, is a long-time member. This is Todd her soulmate and Todd who helps run the governor’s office. They are in this deep and AIP is uglier than anything Rev. Wright every thought about saying. They want Todd near the White House so he can influence policy through activitist VP Sarah (you heard her say Tuesday that she will “manage” the Senate) and when something happens to McCain’s health, it’s Sarah and TODD in charge of the U.S. THEN you’d better quit worrying about external terrorists and look at the enemy within.

That’s how dementia graduates and eventually renders what we now see before us in McCain’s candidacy. It’s sad really. And, unlike Reagan who was on the early rise of his dementia, McCain is already in a laten stage. Yeah, it’s not uncommon at his age for this to be happening.

McCain won’t last the final days–the man is too old. His mistake will get worst as the days go on. I am over 50 and know how hard it can be to try to keep up with the pace of a much younger person. If you notice his wife, daughter or Palin has to always stand by his side, while Obama is often campaigning without his wife or other people, he does not need someone to hold him up and keep him from making a mistake.

I have two points. (1) How it is that anyone can keep supporting the McCain campaign and/or the Bush presidency. What does it take to actually point out that this stuff is not working? The collapse of the stock market and financial system, incompetent and corrupt management of the government on all levels – why do honest people still support the Republicans? It is beyond me. (2) in a similar vein, with such incompetence in the Republican party, why is the election so close? (I think that it is closer than the polls would have us think). How incompetent and corrupt would the Republicans have to be for their base to really turn away from them? It is amazing to me, but definitely a learning experience about the American public.

Why don’t people stop blaming the Presidency? Notice I did not say any President’s name. It’s not the office of the Presidency that spends countless hours and countless taxpayer dollars in the Senate and in the House making the laws and regulations. It’s the Senators and the Congressmen/women. What we need is a complete cleansing of the entire House and Senate. They haven’t gotten anything done, and now they want us to believe it’s all the fault of the Office of the President? Come on! Get Real! What legislation has the Office of the President vetoed that caused the collapse of the Financial System? What legislations has the Office of the President written and forced Congress and the Senate to accept? Yes, the incumbent President hasn’t been effective in his leadership. But, why not hold our Senators and Congressmen/women accountable? Why do they get a free pass? Focus!!!!

PA Dem,
I’ll bite. But I notice that after admonishing us to talk positively about our own candidate rather than run down the other, you turn around and run down John McCain. Double standard, much?
You wrote– in all caps to get our attention:
“THE ONLY THING McCAINS CAMPAIGN HAS ATTEMPTED TO DO TO DATE IS TELL US WHY (MAYBE) WE SHOULDN’T VOTE FOR HIS OPPONENT – WHAT HAS JOHN McCAIN DONE TO GARNER OUR VOTE ?”
Actually, that is not the only thing McCain talks about, its just the only thing you and the media focus on. He talks about his economic plans (mortgage buyback plan, capital gains cut, IRA/401K rules temporary rules suspensions, business tax rate cuts, need I go on?), his energy plans (strong emphasis on nuclear, offshore drilling, all-of-the-above support, a competition for an improved electric car battery), his foreign policy (modified surge in Afghanistan, etc.), his trade policy (remember how Obama was completely wrong in his statements on COlumbian free trade agreement?), his tax plans (increased child credit, make bush tax cuts permanent, business tax reductions), and on and on. Those well-reasoned, pragmatic proposals are the reason I am voting for him.
Got to respond to this little rant of yours as well:
“He’s isn’t as smart (fact) as Obama
He can’t pick a running mate worth a damn. He is ill-tempered ,compulsive and hot headed. He doesn’t have a clue about the economy.”
None of these are facts– they are opinions, and I do not agree with any of them. So, having answered your questions, do I win a prize?
And he can’t fly planes too well either.

I don’t think one needs to look any further than Gov. Palins’ apparent vacuousness to find the most unsettling reason for her fall in approval polls.
Yesterday, she was asked again (for maybe the forth time publicly) what the VPs’ reponsibilites include, from a 3rd grader. She repeated the gibberish she’s been mistakenly expousing about the VP presiding over the Senate. I bet at least half of the 3rd graders know better.
Is this the type of intellectual we want with the launch codes?

McCain’s advisors try to explain the talking points (all negative, it seems), but it seems McCain must not understand the nuances. If he completely understood *how* the talking points turned into benefits for his own campaign, he wouldn’t blunder; he would at least get through the (negative) talking points.
McCain’s problem since the Palin pick was foisted upon him is that he has become only a puppet of the RNC and his advisors. He has become something *other* than his true self, and he is having a hard time embracing the dark underworld of the *dirtiest* politics.
While McCain might have lost if he had followed his own true wishes; if he had picked Joe Lieberman for a running mate, he would have remained true to his own self, and he would not be flubbing his handlers’ talking points. That would have been a “respectable” campaign whether he would have won or lost, and in that sense EVERYONE has lost.
The “wise men” political advisors (and we have seen enough of their antics over the last eight years to last a lifetime) should be tarred, feathered, and run out of the political scene forever.

I think the real reason John McCain 2008 is flubbing these lines is that somewhere deep down inside John McCain 2000 is trying to throttle him.

Okay,a few comments.
1. Presidential campaigns are grueling, especially this one, which has been going on forever. Not surprising that McCain is losing his bearings; he’s an old guy.
2. The presidency is even more gruelling. Clinton and Bush Jr both came out with a lot more gray in their hair then when they went in. It requires youth and vigour.
3. McCain talks about having been tested during the Cuban Missile Crisis. That was 46 years ago and he wasn’t calling the shots himself. Good thing too; He was 26 at the time.

Dear “moderate”
There is a fundimental difference between truth and fact. Facts are indisputable, truth is relevant.
Here are the facts:
1. He really isn’t as smart as Obama,
2. He can’t pick a running mate worth a damn.
3. He is ill-tempered ,compulsive and hot headed.
4. He doesn’t have a clue about the economy.”
5. Being a “Maverick” is costing him the campaign. If elected, it will cost us our country, freedoms, liberties, incomes, health, environment, etc….
These are not opinions, they are facts based on what we’ve all seen and heard, except for folks like you who hear only what pleases you about your candidates, which should be very little. All McCain & Palin do in interviews, speeches & debates is attack, attack, attack. Well what about some good old-fashioned problem solving? How about some remedies? CONCRETE solutions? There is a reason why McCain’s crowds are on average 3,000 to Obama’s 20,000 (AND GROWING). Instead of thinking all these people for Obama are wrong, maybe it’s time you consider that maybe you are. Another fact is: just because he’s your party’s candidate doesn’t mean he’s the right choice. If you don’t accept this from me then ask Colin Powell. He’ll clear it up for you.
I say all this with love and all due respect because that’s how we DEMS roll. We take the high road, until you give us a reason to take the gloves off.

Well gosh, those pesky teleprompters can be as tough to handle as a fighter plane! Opps.

The problem with the Senate and congress is they are littered with “money-for-votes” lobbyists. Are elected officials are constantly faced with a delemna… do I press this button (because it’s the right one to press) or do I press this one (and get that nice chunky check deposited into my foundation’s account? decisions, decisions…)
We need to CLEAN HOUSE, beginning with those corporate lobbyists. Make lobbying illegal and punishible by jail and loss of any professional/business liscensing. That should shift some power back to “We The People”.
How bout that?

This may not be taken very well by the person who suggested outlawing lobbying. However, as I understand it lobbying itself falls under constitutional protection as “the right to petition the government for redress and grievances”. I am not certain that is the exact wording, but to petition the government does fall under the title of “lobbying” as well. What we need is reform on how it is conducted, though things have improved somewhat I believe.

To ‘A Simple Voter’
‘…though things have improved somewhat I believe.’
Fascinating what having a few of them doing time in prison does for keeping the rest of them on their toes, eh? :)

Sir,
I am a Vietnam Veteran, who spent two and a half years in the friggin jungles of Vietnam in a Marine Recon unit. I learned a great lesson in war…that war is not about who is right…only who is left. Apparently you do not know McCain as well as those who were in the POW camp with him. Do your homework. Once you know the truth…perhaps you will comprehend more. We will never promote ‘democracy’ thru firepower. We cannot nuke away the ideals of others. We cannot swap steel with those who have a differing idea of the world and be the ‘winners.’ There are no winners in war. There are only mothers who have lost their sons or daughters and only wives or hsubands who sleep alone and tell their children what a great person their father was. John McCain supports the EXACT same ideas if George Bush. ‘If we don’t agree I will not even talk to you. And if you press your opinions on me, I will bomb you into non-existence.’ I, sir, have a pretty box on the wall with a lot more medals and ribbons than John McCain has…and it don’t mean a darn thing to anybody but me, and to all those friends who I left behind in Vietnam. Do some homework and study the words of those who spent time in the same POW camp with Mr. McCain. It may open your eyes.

I had some respect for McCain because of his courage to reject war and injustices in a very humble way. Now he is even sounding and acting racist and xenophobic.
Not to mention he is getting too close with the extreme-right bunch that he was well known for disagreeing with in a fair and impartial way, always on the side of justice and common sense.
I really miss the old McCain. Too bad he sold his soul to the extreme right.
