McCain Camp: Duberstein Lobbied to Be Our Transition Chief; Duberstein Calls that ‘Bulls***’

Reacting to the news that Ken Duberstein — former White House chief of staff to President Ronald Reagan and an adviser to Sen. John McCain’s, R-Ariz., campaign eight years ago — today endorsed Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., four McCain campaign advisers tell ABC News that in July Duberstein unsuccessfully lobbied to head McCain’s transition team should he win the presidency.

"Absolute, complete bulls***," Duberstein responded to the charge, when contacted by ABC News.

"Someone outside the McCain campaign approached me and said I’d be the ideal candidate to head the transition," Duberstein said. "I said, ‘For what?’"

Four senior McCain advisers recall it a little differently. They say Duberstein reached out to someone affiliated with the campaign to throw his hat into the ring.

Either way, Duberstein’s announcement — he seems to have been most positively influenced by the Obama endorsement by his close friend Gen. Colin Powell (Ret.), most turned off by McCain’s selection of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin — is just the latest in a series of high-profile Republicans backing the front-running Democrat.

UPDATE: A senior McCain adviser tells me that Duberstein in September also reached out directly to McCain after the Republican convention to ask for the job. Duberstein says that’s not true.

I enjoy that Republican philosophy of absolute fealty is blowing up in their faces with some very public spats.

Don’t tell me that the McCain campaign is obliteraring those who are for Obama, and by the way, is Duberstein black? Um…I thought that the reason Gen. Powel endorsed Obama was because of his color :-)

I want a mccain/palin supporter to tell me how they see the victory in iraq mccain keeps talking about?

what will victory in iraq look like?

how long will it take?
what does mccain victory in iraq look like?

We got a different name where I come from for a high profile like Duberstein.
And all these deep thinkers who are rejecting Ms. Palin and have never met her or interacted with her. Because of what? The Gibson interrogation? The Couric interrogation? Give me a break. Neither of those two star news entertainers could withstand five minutes of interrogation. After all, most of their working life is spent reading a teleprompter. Come to think of it. Maybe that’s why they are so enthralled with the O-man. He does have a gift with the dueling teleprompters.

Follower the War criminal General Powell, who lost the last ounce of his honesty and integrity, hard-earned in most of his life before 8 years ago.
General Powell’s judgment is not one that this country can afford again. Yet, 0bama was extremely honored for the endorsement of a war-monger.

By that standard, have you ever met or interacted with Barack Obama?
If not, you apparently are not allowed to have an opinion on him.

Victory in Iraq is:
1. Secure borders;
2. Reliable and effective internal security forces;
3. Functional representative govermment composed of elected officials from all three dominant groups (Kurds, Sunni, Shia) working on behalf of all people;
4. Economic independence.

In the neo-con mind if your not with me then your my enemy, there’s no room for disagreement. Just look at Bush, he repeatedly made the same kind of stand ( my way or the highway) against any person or government that didn’t go along with him. And after all, McCain is Bush III.

“‘we gonna”…
Guess you haven’t been paying attention to the O-man’s speeches lately. There’s a whole lot of gotta and gonna in them. But strangely you koolaid drinkers are so enamored with the sound of the music that you fail to hear the words…or, more correctly, the slang.
Also, during the primary debates, the O-man had a tough time getting the words out on many an occasion when he had to work sans teleprompter. There’s a pretty funny video out there of those sterling moments. I doubt Letterman will be showing any of that should the O-man make it to the oval office.

Jake – I saw Duberstein speak in March 2008, he was fantastic. He seemed to be very impressed with Obama stating that he may prove to be a transformational leader. He also seemed extremely disappointed with Bush and direction of the GOP. Very bizzare why the McCain camp would try to pull something like this.

“Also, during the primary debates, the O-man had a tough time getting the words out on many an occasion when he had to work sans teleprompter.”
I love this teleprompter bit as a way of taking away from Obama’s superior oratory skills.
Right wingers have the barely literate Bush who embarrasses the country everytime he speaks in public and Palin who seems to not know what say unless its in her notes.

That pretty much encapsulates the O-man. If he were running for World News Anchor of ABC News, I would vote for him in a New York second. He’d be far more interesting than Gibson. And I especially like that Malcolm X glower that he has perfected. Grrrrrr…. I am an angry half black man. But, President of the United States? Thanks but no thanks.

Probably not on subject but just finished watching a CNN interview with Obama. He is already starting to indicate and place blame on the fact that he can not do all he promised. I thought he was a US Senator and should be willing to accept some of the blame. I forgot Obama is really good at not keep his promises.

If Obama is elected and doesn’t perform in the next 4 years then we vote him out. I say at least give him a chance to turn things around. I am afraid McCain is just an extension of Bush and his failed policies. McCain is not going to keep half of his promises either.

Have no fear America. There are ignorant people in this country, but for the most part, Americans are not fooled by the media, and their desire to shove a candidate down our throats. Americans will come together quitely, peacefully, and with great dignity, and say no to the media, no to the terrorists, no to Hollywood, and no to everyone that is trying to tell us who we must vote for. Let freedom ring.

The McCain campaign is just stupid. The best thing to say in such cases is nothing.
Most voters aren’t going remember who Duberstein is. By attacking Duberstein, the McCain campaign keeps the issue going. Now voters will learn who Duberstein is and why he’s not supporting McCain.
Even if what the McCain campaign says is true, so what? The alleged interaction hapened before McCain picked Palin as his running mate — Duberstein’s endorsement of Obama simply emphasizes the stupidity of McCain’s choice.

We have the absolute right for the dark clouds around Obama to be cleared up.
——————-
The problem is that there really isn’t any “darl clouds” to clear up.
The whole McCain campaign has been about creating doubt. About using inuedo to suggest there’s some form of “serect past”. About mysterious associateions.
And of course, many idiots just make up stuff and circulate it as fact.
Some folks won’t be content until they find some kind of “secret”. But there isn’t one. Obama was a state Senator for 8 years, and a US Senator. How radical could he possibly be and still rise to those positions?
People have lost their senses in this election.
Obama is admittedly pretty liberal, he’s met a diverse group of people in his life, and he has an ethnic background. So what? That’s a plus as far as I, and many Americans, are concerned.
McCain and the Talking Parrot have offered nothing. They inspire hate, mistrust, and promote accusation via inuendo.

Dream on! Now I’m sure Governor Richards didn’t just pluck the number $120,000 out of thin air. He was let in on the little secret, and whoops! We are ALL going to see tax hikes, in one for , or another. Better brace yourselves.
Obama’s aids are concerned, that people have the euphoric idea that Obama is a god, and can accomplish things, no mere mortal can….so after the elections….he’ll be letting us know that it won’t be quite how he described it would be.
Just forewarning you!

Obama went to a racist, anti-American church for about 20 years and heard the hateful rhetoric of Rev. Wright every Sunday for most of his adult life. Further, his close association with terrorist and radical friends has been coming to light slowly, reflecting his dark past. Obama seems to have too many skeletons in his closet. If voters could know the unvarnished truth about Obama’s past, it seems McCain will win.

It’s such a transparent and pathetic strategy, and it is the worst of American politics.

G. Gordon Liddy, who has gleefully committed felonies, plotted violent attacks against his political enemies and called for the assassination of federal law enforcement officers. But he’s a Republican, so it’s apparently okay.
Obama doesnt care about talking about this, because he prefers to talk about his plans and policies, how they differ from McCain, not this nonsense about ties to terrorists!

Timmy: McCain’s Skeletons in his Closet
McCain was part of the Keating scandal in the mid 1980′s:Charles Keating was convicted of racketeering and fraud in both state and federal court after his Lincoln Savings & Loan collapsed, costing the taxpayers $3.4 billion.
McCain has strong ties to G. Gordon Liddy. Talked about him in my previous post.
On strong family values, McCain divorced his first wife after she was in a car accident and probably didnt look so good anymore, good values. His present wife, Cindy- has had some trouble with prescriptions drugs: Vicodin and Percocet!
Mafia Ties: Arizona (which borders Nevada) has long had a serious presence. In the 1970s, a reporter was assassinated for looking into them. In 1995, McCain sent birthday regards, and regrets for not attending, to Joseph “Joe Bananas” Bonano, the head of the New York Bonano crime family, who had retired to Arizona. Another politician to send regrets was Governor Fife Symington, who has since been kicked out of office and convicted of 7 felonies relating to fraud and extortion.
Do your research, search the internet, look up more information on the Keating Scandal and G.Gordon Liddy, their connection to John McCain!

Oh yes…they’re families were so intertwined it wasn’t funny…so let’s stop talking about “associations” (finger quotes)…you know what at this point Obama only has to go up from these past 8 years…we can’t get any lower…The country is broke, the rest of the world hates us, we don’t care about the elderly or the young or the poor or the homeless…Education is no longer valued and we have a bunch of greedy crooked politicians…
