McCain: Obama Ad “Paid For With Broken Promises”
In Palm Beach, Florida, today Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., attacked Sen. Barack Obama’s pending 30-minute prime-time address as a "gauzy, feel-good commercial," that was "paid for with broken promises."
McCain was referring to Obama’s announcement in June that he would break his promise to enter into the public financing system.
In November 2007, Obama answered "Yes" to Common Cause when asked "If you are nominated for President in 2008 and your major opponents agree to forgo private funding in the general election campaign, will you participate in the presidential public financing system?"
Obama wrote: "If I am the Democratic nominee, I will aggressively pursue an agreement with the Republican nominee to preserve a publicly financed general election."
He didn’t.
"Senator Obama signed a piece of paper committing to public financing of his campaign if I did," McCain said. "Twice he looked the American people in the eye and said he would sit down with me before he abandoned public financing. He didn’t mean a word of it."
"That is what concerns small business owners and people all over this country," McCain said. "Senator Obama’s word doesn’t appear to mean that much. When he tells America tonight that he’s going to cut taxes for the middle class, people wonder if he’ll keep his word because his record, his record is supporting higher taxes on working families."

Tell it John. Also let’s discuss your decision to suspend campaigning when your polls dropped. You don’t talk about that gas tax reduction anymore do you? You wanted to campaign on foreign policy experience–can you still see Russia from her doorstep? I could go on but what about the economy being sound???

McCain lied today when he said Obama was delaying the start of the World Series.
He then lies again twice here
“Senator Obama signed a piece of paper committing to public financing of his campaign if I did,”
Obama answered a survey. He signed nothing.
“his record is supporting higher taxes on working families”
This is bunk. Obama’s record is for supporting lower taxes for working families and higher taxes on the wealthy

0bama promised to vote against and even filabuster to give Bush the power to spy on American citizens, at the heat of the democratic primaries in which he needed the support of moveon.com.
After he got his Affirmative Action nomination, he abandoned his promise, and voted to allow Bush’s government to spy on you, to listen into your private conversations, between Americans including phone conversations between those fighting in Iraq and their wives.
0bama is has again taken a piece of your Constitutional rights away.

Obama is desperate and this infomercial proves just how desperate he is.
He is incompitent as a CIC.
He has no experience.
He wants to redistribute our money.
He will let Isreal get destroyed.
He has awful friends
He attends a horrible church that preaches such a hateful message.
He is divisive.
He is a socialist and a marxist.
His democrats tanked the economy – they are the power holders in congress.
Too many negatives about Obama to even have him be garbage boy at the White House let alone running it.

It’s so sad that we the american people don’t expect people to keep their word. If Obama wasnt sure he would take it he shouldnt have said he would peice of paper or not your word is suppose to be your bond, and saying well that guy is lying to doesnt cut it for me you are the change guy and now all I can think of when I see Obama is another politican the sameones that have been running the country for years nothing new. So to you Obama I say

Common tactics from McCain and Company:
Falling behind in her reelection race, Sen. Elizabeth Dole has uncorked one hell of a charge: The Democrat running against me is godless.
The end of the ad features a picture of candidate Kay Hagan with a female voice yelling “there is no God!” — the clear implication is that the voice is Hagan’s. In fact, the Democratic candidate is a Sunday School teacher and an elder at her Presbyterian church.

I disliked Obama’s last FISA vote a great deal and I am glad you are against FISA.
The problem for you as a McCain supporter is McCain’s support for FISA
“For months, House Democrats, the ACLU, and the trial lawyers have held up legislation to modernize our nation’s terrorist surveillance laws. Today, the House passed a compromise bill to end this impasse. While I would have preferred to see the Senate bill enacted, which I voted for earlier this year, I am pleased Congressional leaders and the Administration were able to reach an agreement to reform our current surveillance law and not let FISA expire in August. I hope Senate Democrats will allow this matter to quickly be considered by the Senate and sent to the President for his signature. I will support this measure and hope that politics will be put aside in favor of this vital national security matter.”

Tapper, why don’t you do a fact check on public financing before you repeat the McCain talking points. Obama gave so many caveats, and what ifs, to the public financing proposal, that only an idiot would think he would accept with the possibility that third parties could run up negative ads–as they have already done against him.
And, he also did meet with McCain’s people about the public financing proposal–the negotiations fell apart.
If you want to wag fingers—when you finish wagging it at Obama, why don’t you ask the maverick about his promise to run a respectful campaign that focused on the issues–oh yeah, that would be too like right.

I really can’t blame Obama for changing his mind. The last several elections have shown that the GOP and it’s rich cronies are no match for Democratic candidates’ public funding — and have resulted in accusations of buying the vote. Obama clearly realized this as his campaign progressed, and it worked well for him, for once: millions of grassroots supporters contributing what they can actually can beat the RNC machine!!!

I see you all have not lost your fight :
GOOD! Because we have a lot to do. You! (the American people) are going to have to take back control of your elected government at every level, and set your government back on the right path of service to you, and the greater good of the World.
Barack Obama and the democrats are your best hope of doing that now. Tell your family, friends, and everyone you know to support them as best they can. Because the Bush McCain vote fraud, vote cheating, vote buying, vote manipulation machine is already hard at work to cheat you again. And we all know what a disaster that has been the past 8 years of Bush McCain.
Barack Obama and the democrats will need all the power you can give them at every level of government (Federal, State, County, and local City elected governments). Obama and the democrats will have an enormous mess to fix for the American people, and the rest of the World. A mess caused by the corrupt Bush McCain administration.
You see, starting back in 2000, and before 911, it was mostly the Republican governors, Republican legislatures, and county elected Republican officials that conspired with the corrupt Bush McCain administration to raise college, and university tuitions by the fastest, and highest rate increases in American history. Some state tuitions went up by as much as a WHOPPING! 30% in one year.
The reason the Bush McCain administration did this was to force struggling working class kids into the military to pay for the sudden jump in tuition. Which was forced on them by the corrupt Bush McCain administration, and their corrupt Republican Governors, and republican controlled state legislatures.
See, Bush McCain had plans to get us into all these immoral, foolish, criminal, and unnecessary wars from the start. So they could use these wars to seize power, and later to get reelected. But, for their evil plan to work they needed more volunteer soldiers struggling to pay for an education whose blood they could spill to help them seize more power. Remember Bush McCain’s “MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!” theatrics.
The exploitation, and lost lives of these finest Americans is despicable, disgusting, immoral, corrupt and criminal. And it makes me SICK, and ANGRY!
You will have to vote for Obama, and the democrats in overwhelming numbers to overcome the Bush McCain vote fraud machine. Vote early if you can. Then help your fellow Americans cast their votes now, and on through election day. Vote for Obama, and the democrats like your life, and the lives of your loved ones depends on it. Because it does. You will not survive 4 more years of “Let Them Eat Cake” Bush McCain, and their republican allies.
Just look at the mess we have now.
You can fix this mess with your votes for Obama, and the democrats. And REMEMBER, no matter which of us may stumble or fall, the rest of you must continue to surge forward for Barack Obama, and the democrats, and for your-selves most of all. The children, and the World are counting on us.
It’s in your hands now. And I know you will get it done.
God bless all of you.

I have made small contributions to Obama’s campaign knowing that he would need resources to address the lies MCCain and Palin have created to undermine Obama’s record and integrity. Obama was courageous and wise enough to take a stand against the IRAQ WAR when it was not a popular stand to make. He showed GREAT courage and wisdom then. Had the rest of our leaders followed his stance, our country would be more secure – military and economy. McCain and Palin have both shown they are willing to do and say ANYTHING – lies, distortions, lies, and more lies – in their sleezy attempt to take the highest office in the land. Thankfully, it appears that we,the United States citizens, are smarter than MCCain-Palin think we are. I am proud to support OBAMA-BIDEN.

McCain’s economic adviser makes Obama’s case for him and against McCain’s bogus 5000 dollar tax credit as his health care plan.
Younger, healthier workers likely wouldn’t abandon their company-sponsored plans, said Douglas Holtz-Eakin, McCain’s senior economic policy adviser.

apparently there is no enforceable law that requires a candidate to adhere to source of funding. so what is the beef? it is not illegal, it is not unethical. mccain had the opportunity to do the same thing but chose not to for his own reasons. so, thinking private funding was also available to mccain. no law was broken, nothing unethical, no abuse of any powers. looks like just sour grapes on the part of mccain and just another negative attack. registered republican here.

Sharonkathleen – People shouldn’t vote for a candidate based on their campaign – they should vote for the candidate based solely on their record BEFORE they began running for president. Running for president doesn’t qualify someone to BE president. A campaign is nothing but glossy speeches and campaign rhetoric. Hopefully, most people will do the smart thing and ignore everything that has been done and said during the campaign and cast their ballot based solely on record, history and accomplishments BEFORE these candidates began campaigning.

JR,
You have mistaken the temporary measure as the FISA of 2007 expiring to extend it for a month or so. At that time of the passage of the bill you quoted, 0bama was lying to you that he will vote against it and would filabuster it in the “real” bill, simply to deceive you to buy your vote. He did not vote that bill, McCain voted for the temporary extension.
The FISA bill, the real one, THE ONE, was considered in July, at which time, 0bama no longer needed your support in the Democrat Primaries. He, the liar, 0bama, voted for it. McCain and Clinton voted against it.

The fact that you have decided to promote the McCain campaign version of what happened, given the fact that they haven’t stopped lying since the day he decided to run for President is laughable.
Why is that so difficult for the media to understand?
Senator Obama raised enough money to get his message directly to the American people without the filter of the biased press and in spite of the fountain of lies spouting daily from Fox news and all the right wing radio biggots.

If McCain could raise as much money as Obama he wouldn’t have taken public financing. Plus Obama needed the money to get his message across to voters, after all his name is Barack Obama.

=====
JR,
You have mistaken the temporary measure in February as the FISA of 2007 expiring to extend it for a month or so.

Did John McCain give a ‘pledge’ to oppose the Bush tax cut for the wealthy?
“I cannot in good conscience support a tax cut in which so many of the benefits go to the most fortunate among us at the expense of middle-class Americans who need tax relief.”–John McCain, May 2001
WAS JOHN MCCAIN A SOCIALIST THEN?

John McCain’s Conscience – Why are McCain’s proposed cuts better then Bush’s??? Are you serious? Ummmm, McCain has called for an extension of Bush’s tax cuts – you know the one that lowered the tax rate across the board for ALL Americans (to the lowest level since 1991) – including the lower 40 percent of wage earners who became exempt from paying taxes under Bush. McCain is calling for additional cuts, credits and exemptions ACROSS THE BOARD – not just for the wealthy.

McCain wouldn’t be complaining if he was the one with enough money to do this. The argument about public financing would maybe have made more sense back in June when it actually came up. To bring it up now just sounds petty, like nothing more than sour grapes because McCain HAD to take public financing because he would’ve had even less money without it. Obama never actually committed himself to foregoing public financing. I think his battle with Hillary, and some perspective on what the Republicans would try to throw at him, plus the extra climb he knew he had as an African American, and I think he made the choice he knew he needed to make. Kudos to him for running the best and more organized campaign anyone has seen in decades. Oh, and for not jumping in the mud with McCain when McCain broke his own promise to run a respectful campaign, and to “not take the low road to the highest office”. In the scheme of things, the latter broken promise is far worse.

Wouldn’t it be more helpful for the American electorate in their assessment of Sen. Obama’s character to see the tape being withheld by the LA Times, than it is to see his scripted VH 1 special on his personal sojourn to the White House. Seeing the LA Times tape would show the voters whether he was being truthful when he said that he did not socialize with Bill Ayers who is supposedly in that video with him at a social function held in 2003.

It shocks me that the American public has fallen for the tag line Change – we can’t afford 4 more years of this. I’m all for change….the only problem is that Obama hasn’t bothered to tell me HOW he’s going to change it. Oh, wait, yes he did….he’s going to punish people who work hard and make money by taking that money and distributing it to the people who are sitting around collecting money already from all of our gov’t programs. Now there’s motivation to get people working. I don’t owe them a chance to find opportunity, you have to make your own. I’m sorry but making $250,000 (which I’m no where near making) in this day in age hardly categorizes you as rich. And for those of you who think the gov’t running your health plan is a good idea, can you tell me one program that the government (regardless of who it’s run by) has done successfully??? We need a whole lot LESS government. It’s not the gov’ts responsiblity to take care of you….take care of yourself and stop looking for handouts!

Top REPUBLICAN congressman Chris Shay’s tells it like it is!
The first ballot has yet to be tallied, but some Republicans are already hammering nails into the McCain-Palin campaign’s coffin.
Locked in a tight congressional race, Rep. Chris Shays of Connecticut’s 4th district is the latest in a slew of Republican incumbents, including Sen. Elizabeth Dole of North Carolina, to concede a near-certain victory to the Obama camp.
“I just don’t see how [McCain] can win,” Shays said in an interview here on Sunday.
Shays, the Connecticut co-chair of McCain’s campaign, said he was disappointed by the standards of McCain’s race, which has increasingly relied on mudslinging.
“He has lost his brand as a maverick; he did not live up to his pledge to fight a clean campaign,” Shays said.

McCain has not accused Obama of “being” a terrorist. I think Powell and some of Obama’s supporters are just assuming that because Ayers was a terrorist who Obama was friends with that makes Obama a terrorist in people’s minds if it is proven to be true. Not quite the extent to which I’d go. All McCain said was that Obama hasn’t been candid about his relationship with Ayers. The obvious conclusion is that Obama is far too liberal (perhaps radical) for most of us just by looking at the people he associates with. It would be less easy to think that if Obama didn’t have so many radical associations.

John McCain is complaining about broken promises? He has broken larger and more important promises (like to run a clean campaign). His campaign is paid for by taxpayers, many not voting for him. Barack Obama is running a good campaign funded by millions of supporters, like me, who were only able to give $25 (actually I donated twice). I’m glad Obama opted out. If you like McCain you can say “at least I didn’t pay for his campaign.” I wish I could say the same about McCain’s. But breaking the “clean campaign” promise turned me off immediately. Still McCain and Palin are obsessed with who Obama associated with on the faculty of universities he taught at. I work at a university and alot of the faculty have different opinions, that’s what makes it a university. What you’re selling McCain, America aint buyin’.

Guess what? If your messiah wins and one day that tape is released (And it will be released..count on it) showing Obama trashing Israel and praising Palestine and the Muslim world..guess what? He’ll be impeached so fast, he’ll make Nixon look like FDR!!

I commend Obama for not using public funding for his campaign expenses. McCain might have forgone them too if he had the contributions. But he didn’t and now he’s whining about it. Of course using public funding hasn’t stopped him from using $150.000 in two weeks for his VP’s wardrobe. Thanks, John! Obama, agreement or not is not obliged to run his campaign based on how the opposition might like him to do it. And as far as promises go, didn’t John promise to forgo a negative campaign?? Good judgement by Obama. McCain was hoping that he could trap Obama into the public funding limits, while he would freely “work around” it and get his ads through RNC and 527 groups. McCain did raise the limits during the campaign using such loopholes. All of McCain’s promises look “honorable” on the face, but with enough room for “backdoor work arounds” favorable to him.

Ask not what Barack Obama can do for this country, but instead, how he’s going to do it. Obama is “the most liberal senator,” and his voting record in the Senate “does not reflect working in a bipartisan fashion. We hear about “change” and vague references to bringing people together, but there’s no substance to back up the talk. It’s easy to achieve consensus on rhetorical promises – “we need change, we need to bring people together, let’s get America back on track.” Not many want to turn down that kind of apple pie. Every good story tells the reader what happens in the plot. But a great story shows us how, in concrete ways. The same is true when it comes to politics. Everyone agrees we want change in America. Mr. Obama has not answered the fundamental question of how. If he thinks partisan difference will melt away, he’s naive. If he believes he can bludgeon conservatives and moderates to adopt his liberal policy agenda, he’s dangerous.

JOHN McCAIN NEEDS TO CUT THE IS JOHN McCAIN WHO ACTUALLY BROKE CAMPAIGN FINANCING RULES DURING THE PRIMARIES, AND DID IT ON MULTIPLE OCCASSIONS:
First, McCain took out a private loan to fund his failing campaign during the primaries, using the promise of public matching funds as collateral for
the loans he received from two banks.
Then, John McCain, when he realized that he was going to be the republican nominee, unilaterally tried to withdraw from the public funding system, a move the chair of the FEC told McCain was against the rules, because the law quite carefully stipulates that if McCain’s loan was obtained by pledging money he was to receive from public financing as collateral, he can’t opt out of the system.
Even after all this, John McCain then went on to ignore spending limits in the primaries by continuing to spend millions of dollars in contributions from donors, lobbyists, thereby breaking the law on a daily
basis.
HERE ARE NEWS PAPER SOURCES WHO COVERED THE STORY DURING THE PRIMARIES:
McCain Used Public Financing As Collateral For Private Loan. As reported by the Washington Post, “John McCain’s cash-strapped campaign borrowed $1 million from a Bethesda bank two weeks before the New Hampshire primary by pledging to enter the public financing system if his bid for the presidency faltered, newly disclosed records show.” [Washington Post, 2/16/08]
FEC Says McCain Cannot Withdraw From Public Financing System. According to the
New York Times, the FEC release a letter in February that “said Mr. McCain
could not withdraw from public financing until he had answered questions about a $4 million line of credit for borrowing that was secured, in part, in December by the promise of federal matching money.” [New York Times, 2/22/08]
McCain Surpasses Spending Caps. Reports filed in March showed “Sen. John
McCain has officially broken the limits imposed by the presidential public
financing system,” according to the Washington Post, and that McCain had spent
$58.4 million during the primaries, even though candidates who commit to
public financing can spend no more than $54 million. [Washington Post's The
Trail Blog, 3/21/08]

If you don’t think power corrupts take a good look at John McCain. He is physically addicted to it. Most men his age would be satisfied with a 26 year career in the senate. But no, not “that one”.
He wants power so badly that getting it justifies any and all means to that end.
McCain dodders around telling whatever lies they give him to mouth, no matter how foul. He spouts fear, incites ethnic and racial hatred at every opportunity. Today he said that Obama was preempting the World Series.
It doesn’t matter that people are worried and fearful enough that they will be unable to pay their bills and feed their family.
McCain offers no real help to these people.
His concern is for the people who have corrupted him, Oil company executives, Banking and Insurance company C.E.O.s and now Military Arms Manufacturers.
“power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely”
Don’t let “That One” get absolute power.

You are right. Whether one is a Democrat or Republican transparency and keeping one’s word are essential to voters. One of my concerns with Sen. Obama’s campaign is the distince lack of both. Denials as to questionable previous associations, the unproduced, actual birth certificate, the mysterious untraceable donations, the phantom voter registrants through ACORN, etc. As these issues are raised in succession, it makes one wonder, can this person be trusted and believed regarding his professed policy and platforms.

You people who think Obama is the Messiah and is going to make the world a better place should check out what similar promises were made in Germany and Russia not that long ago. I have lived long enough to have seen this kind of Obama Phenomenon a time or two and the ending has NEVER been what was promised. Obama morphs into what he needs to morph into until he gets what he wants which is to be the most powerful man in the world. When the morphing is all gone and the mask is removed, you will find yourself in a country you do not recognize. All this socialism stuff will put maybe $1000 PER YEAR in the pockets of people who don’t pay taxes. That is nothing!!! The max for the lower end about $200 for those who pay taxes. And maybe $2 for the people up in the higher under $200,000…until Bush’s taxes cut runs out. Then it is a different story. In the meantime, people will lose their jobs, the economy will stagnate, and the American Dream for anyone with a little ambition will vanish. Foolish followers of Obama. This is your life and future you are messing with. I’ve lived long enough that it will not effect me as much…but to the young…my my my, you have just sold your future for fluff and false promises. The middle class in America will start diminishing, then there will be poor and then the rich who control everything.
Obama has been bought and paid for and it is to those who bought him he is beholden, not to you. You are useful chattel, that is all.

What about John McCain’s promise to run a clean campaign? Since then, he’s run the dirtiest campaign in modern American history (and that’s saying something after some of the crap the Bush/Rove team pulled). When he was questioned about this broken promise in one of the debates he blamed it on Obama, saying that if he’d agreed to McCain’s suggestion to do a bunch of town hall debates he’d have behaved less ugly during the campaign. Does this make any sense? So much for being an “honorable” “maverick”… More like a desperate sell-out.

I am getting so hopeful that many Americans are rising above the hate and lies coming from McCain and his slimy sidekick Palin and their morally ruined party. I am so glad to know that we are behaving like Americans and doing what we’ve always done.. using our brains and our inner fighting spirits and rising above the fray of madness called the Republican brainwashing machine, and deciding what is right for our Country and standing up for it once and for all. No McCain you CAN’T HAVE THE REMOTE CONTROL!!!

It’s a lot easier to run a campaign when money is no object and people are obsessed with you. The fact that you broke your promise to stick with federal funds to raise gobs of money so you could ensure a win is probably stating too much. Obsessive feelings rarely last or are they good to begin with.

Barrack Obama wishes to mirror US governmental policies to that of Francois Mitterrand. France still reeling from failed Mitterrand economic and social policies ushered in sweeping reform by electing Sarkozy one of the most conservative politicians in France’s history. Obama’s implementation of Mitterrand style economic control policies will wreak havoc on a US free market economy. This socialist form government has failed in every country that tried to implement it. Theoretically it should function for small and mid size countries the size of Cuba or France. Large countries like the former USSR and China do not bode well with this form of gov’t. so it takes the form of the more radical form or communism. This central gov’t relies on and depletes its satellite members of their resources to the benefit of the central party. Democrats in Congress are now entertaining the idea of capturing individuals 401k plans placing in a social security account. They want to transfer amounts at August levels before the market meltdown to try to gain support. Everyone would draw from the social security account. This effort will no doubt be supported by Obama as an excellent solution to spreading the wealth.

I don’t understand this intense desire from Republicans, that politicians MUST use our hard earned tax money to pay for their election campaigns. I really don’t. The money could be much better used than on elections!
America is in a recession and YOU WANT politicians to use your hard-earned taxes to fund their campaigns?????
No wonder America is in a recession!!
The Republican government tosses money around like a salad. A dash of Iraq here, a dose of electioneering there.

I find it humorous to see all the Obama / Biden supporters parroting exactly what Obama, Biden, and every other Democrat has hammered into your brains on the talk shows. Erratic, out of touch, four more years of Bush, etc.
Obama is running a campaign just as negative as McCain. He has just managed to do so more covertly. On the flip side, I hate to see Republicans spewing out the same garbage. Please, think for yourself. Stop repeating what you hear on television.
Obama has managed to motivate a demographic that never was active at the polls: youth. Unfortunately youth is gullible. Other than that, he will not bring change.
Broken promises? Campaign financing and choosing a VP that is even more of an insider than McCain. Here is a guy that dismissed the idea of choosing Hillary Clinton as a VP because she did not mesh with his message of change . . . just to choose Biden?
It was even reported that Obama was severely disappointed that his campaign team was running such a clean campaign? He is running a savvy, dirty campaign.
I don’t mind if he wins. In four years, the country will see how much of a snake oil salesman he truely is.
As for a progressive tax system . . . why does that make sense to so many people? The more you make the more they take?
In a flat tax system, the more you make — the more you give to your government. The more you work, the more you contribute. Isn’t that enough? Why must you pay more for success.
The American Dream is just that. A dream . . . a possibility. It isn’t what Obama is trying to make it . . . a guarantee. I don’t make anywhere near $250,000, but I believe in the American Dream.
Why lower taxes? Goto any government funded organization and see how bad the service is. Money spent by the government and placed in government programs is spent poorly.
Why not flat tax . . . eliminate the complex, loop filled tax code and fire half of the IRS employees that you no longer need.
How many do they employ? Rougly 85,000. You release half of those workers because the tax system is no longer so complex that it requires so many employees . . . 42,500 multiplied by a low figure for the average salary, 50,000 (the salaries range from 45,000 to 100,000 in the IRS). That would be over 2 billion dollars in savings. These are conservative estimates.
McCain has been lambasted for saying he would freeze spending on goverment spending to balance the budget. What? I, as a taxpayer, just had to pay 700 billion dollars because banks AND PEOPLE were irresponsible and wanted to flip houses for large profits. Why should I pay? They want to tax me more to pay for this? Crazy. I don’t even own a house. I didn’t try to make a quick buck off risky real estate.
Big government is foolish. Rant over. If Democrats can ever get past more taxation as opposed to less spening . . . I might think throwing a vote their way. A third of my tax dollars (at least) are spent paying interest on the loans the government has taken out. NUTS! Rant is truely over. :)

It’s amazing how many people are making Biblical references about Messiah and the end of days, etc. etc. regarding the Obama presidency. Might I suggest you read your bible – the Book of Revelation in particular before you start ascribing these biblical references to Obama. He is NOT Messiah or some prophet or heavens forbid the 2nd coming of Christ or whatever else people are saying. He is a man, a flawed one at that with skeletons in his closest like everyone else. But honestly, I think he would do a better job at running this country than anything we’ve seen in the past 8 years! John McCain is not even an option because of his poor health history and Sarah Palin’s appalling lack of experience. Seems to me that Barack is the right and only choice.

I am righ there with Paul from Texas, after toiling with many emotions, I realized a few days ago that I could not bring myself to vote for the democratic nominee for the first time ever. As a Democrat, or what I thought a Democrat was prior the primary season, I cannot vote for a Republican. As a lifelong Democrat, I felt nearly obligated to catch some of Barack’s “Barack-O-Mmerical”. That sense of obligation lasted all of three minutes. I actually felt nauseous, it was THAT bad. I esp. took offense to Barack’s utter lack of shame when he filmed himself in front of windows that were meant to look like he was already sitting in the White House Oval Office. I have to agree with Sen. John McCain, when he said today that Barack purchased that 30-minute “gauzy feel good” commercial with broken promises. When I listen to Barack, all I see & hear is soaring rehetoric designed to propel his political ambitions. Obviously Sen. John McCain is not as eloquent, but he is a million times more sincere. Do not be fooled America. Dont just jump on the “Barack Bandwagon” full of empty promises.

I am voting for Barack Obama, now that I have watched the 30-minute Barack Obama ad (I also recorded it on DVD, so that I can watch it a year, two years, or many years from now). And when November 4, 2008 arrives, I will sit back and enjoy watching the scenes of the hotel room of the GOP, as the McCain supporters and other Republicans in the room — including morons like Tucker Bounds — sit in stunned silence and disbelief, watching their TVs and HDTVs, wondering where they went so horribly wrong.
Even Sarah Palin doesn’t really seem committed to this campaign and is distancing herself away from McCain…she’s now launching her campaign for 2012.
I also hope that Obama wins 489 Electoral Votes, just like Reagan did in 1980 when he defeated Jimmy Carter for the presidency. Sure, Obama has enough Electoral Votes to clinch the presidency, BUT THAT IS NOT ENOUGH.
And finally, for all you people voting for McCain (and you know who you are), just remember this: A recession is when your neighbor loses his job, a depression is when you lose yours…and on January 20, 2009, a recovery is when Barack Obama gets his as the 44th President of the United States of America. And redemption? That’s when Barack Obama is reelected in 2012.

Obama wrote: “If I am the Democratic nominee, I will aggressively pursue an agreement with the Republican nominee to preserve a publicly financed general election.”……He didn’t…..”Senator Obama signed a piece of paper committing to public financing of his campaign if I did,” McCain said. “Twice he looked the American people in the eye and said he would sit down with me before he abandoned public financing. He didn’t mean a word of it.”…..Obama will do anything to be elected. He is so dangerous to our country, connecting and developed as socialistic plitician, aand socialistic mind when he was growing up, plus connecting with Ayers, and PLO(terrorist).

Chad,
Off if the top of my head – 3 reasons why Obama is the logical choice.
1. He prefers diplomacy over war – McCain prefers war. When we decided to “punish” North Korea by not talking to them because they are communists, they suffered by building a nuclear program. I bet if we were talking to them, we could have possibly talked them out of building a nuclear program.
2. Obama picked a VP running mate who complements his deficiencies. Since no one person can know everything, surround yourself with people who know what you don’t. McCain – primarily picked Sarah Palin to win votes with the conservative Christians. By the way, I’m a bible-reading, church going Christian and my bible does not preach divise, polarizing rhetoric. Country First, I think not!
3. Obama’s philosophy is geared towards helping everyone, not just a few. While I am as entreprenuerial as the next person, it’s not about what I can get for myself and then forget everyone else. When I can afford to help someone less fortunate than me, I do. It’s not all about YOU. If that’s socialism, well then let me just get in the front of the line.
Now I can go on and on listing why Obama is the right choice, but I think next Tuesday, the rest of America will list their reasons as well.

WRONG AGAIN, John McCain.
The Obama spot was paid for by Americans who want to see an end to the Bush years.
Posted by: John McCain's conscience | October 29, 2008, 9:00 pm 9:00 pm
All this back and forth of who said what is BS. Everybody wants to forget that the two people on the Republican ticket have had ethics violations against them. All the ultra-right wing people on the this post are most likely single issue voters and do not have the reasoning to vote. By no means is Sen. Obama the greatest candidate ever, but he is better than McCain, as he stands against the status quo. All you ever here is the Obama will make us a socialist country….well I hate to tell the right wing, but farm subsidies, thats socialist. Paying a farmer not to plant crops. Having to increase the tax is a fact of live. Do people not realize that the war is costing the American taxpayer $10-12 billion a month, and we have been in Iraq over 5 years…do the math. All I know is Obama gives us chance to better our country, not just our selves….that is what makes America great. And also remember that America was founded by rich, slave-owning white men who did not want to pay their taxes.

McCain wasted all his money on misleading attack ads.
Posted by: John | October 29, 2008, 9:01 pm 9:01 pm
So McCain’s counterattack here is to call Obama a liar? A politician being called a liar? Is this really all they got at this point? Really original. I’ll bet they reached deep into the Politics for Dummies book to come up with that strategy.

I see a lot of Obama haters here. I watched the whole infomercial and loved it! Awesome man! McCain needs to retire!
Posted by: liz | October 29, 2008, 9:01 pm 9:01 pm
Finally, McCain calls Obama on his broken promises and outright lies. It’s about time. Obama was looking for the white middle class vote tonight with his infoliemercial. I noticed nearly all of the families he showed were white. Wonder why? I also noticed he chose not to talk about his father or step-father. Wonder Why?
Posted by: mom | October 29, 2008, 9:02 pm 9:02 pm
It was clear that McCain back in June stated he will run a ‘straight campaign’ focusing on the issues and with no smears and attacks what so ever. Everyone clearly remembers this at the time, for it was aired by all the news sites, networks, etc.
Yet he clearly had majorly backtracked in the past month. McCain and his camp clearly has stated at the beginning of October that if he focuses on the economy, he will loose the election. And guess what, he kept attacking without bothering to focus on the issues, especially the primary issue Americans want to hear – the economy.
So McCain and Palin are calling the kettle black when they want to focus on Obama’s ‘ethics’. What is so ethical about using smears and fears to scare the public by distorting the truth? They say it’s not negative? Excuse me, but it’s clear to anyone with a brian that their ads *are* negative, and polls clearly indicated a great percentage of people are turned off by McCain’s negative campaigning.
So in the end, instead of focusing on the issue, McCain is always on the ‘attack, attack, attack.’ Sounds like a desperate man to me, for if Obama was desperate, why is Obama focusing on the issues most of the time and McCain is not?
Yep, I, for one, is now convinced this Prez election year is where I’ve seen the most sleeziest, dirtiest, smearful, hateful, untruthful campaigns ever run by a candidate since I started voting in 1989. McCain sicks me to no end, and I will not ever trust him no matter what in the future.

Posted by: ali | October 29, 2008, 9:02 pm 9:02 pm
Sounds like sour grapes from McCain. The one thing I liked about it is there was not any negativity towards the other party. With Palin and McCain spewing negative attacks this was a breath of fresh air. I am still undecided but leaning towards Obama. I didnt realize that he is just an everage family man such as myslef and he didnt have it any easier than a lot of us. Kudos to him for keeping it positive!

To all of you race baiting McCain wonks, listen up:
Tonight, Senator Obama sealed the deal. He beat the Republicans and McCain at their own game and it is gnawing at them. Four years ago, the 527′s and other “Pro-American Groups” turned a hero into a goat. Obama wasn’t going to let that happen again. He knew he couldn’t trust the Karl Rove proteges to keep their word on the 527s. So he didn’t ask them to. Instead, he has been taking it to them in the same way they took it to John Kerry four years ago! And they don’t like it one bit!!
Way to go Senator Obama!!!

We need to select our ballot choice based on facts and integrity. Unfortunately the media circus is making the choice for us. ABC, CBS, and CNN are liberal Democrats who will not tell the truth about Obama (Includes the hidden video held by the L.A. Times). FOX is the conservative Republican. All networks should not be permitted to endorse a candidate, but should report the truth. Let us see the real background, the real policy ideals or each candidate. Truth be known, Obama has no chance, but the truth is hidden, he dances around the answers and issues. He will probably be elected; so start saying goodbye to your 401K, guns, earnings, freedom, etc. This man is a horrid choice, not that McCain is perfect (far from it), but research and make an educated vote, not a vote based on good speaking skills or color.

There needs to be a serious vetting against those donors. But it may be too little too late. It”s not hard to fathom that illegal donations by FOREIGNERS are made through these prepaid cards. Even Bill Clinton had to refuse questionable donations linked to Chinese sources. Obama is just looking the other way. It”s always about the money. He has 400 paid staff JUST in Pennsylvania. PAID staff, not volunteers!
McCain should be jealous for sure but to lose because of cheating smells rotten.
Well, if Obama wins he will achieve another first-THE FIRST CANDIDATE TO BUY THIS PRESIDENCY.

Per NBC: Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama blanketed the airwaves Wednesday night with an unusual 30-minute advertisement on seven television networks in a splashy demonstration of the extraordinary financial resources at his disposal with less than a week to go before Election Day.
There was nothing particularly special about the ad itself — which conjured up images of a country crying out for change against a suitably patriotic background — except for its length.

Now about Obama running a clean campaign—
“Obama Caught with Race Card in Mouth, Admits Comments Were Racial; Media Shills Look Dumb, Clinton Dems Rejoice” by David Jamal
Well, I didn’t think it would be Rick Davis, but I’m glad somebody finally had the courage to bring to an end a tactic that has rankled rank-and-file Democrats who have been saying ‘no deal’ to Obama since January: his campaign’s constant, vile abuse of the race card to silence those who see through him:
From Obama’s loudmouth, dad-bashing campaign co-chair Jesse Jackson, Jr. claiming Hillary was insensitive to Katrina victims, to the now infamous ‘leaked’ memo claiming the Clintons and all around them were racist;
From the contrived overreaction to Bill Clinton’s observations that Obama’s Iraq war opposition was a “fairy tale” to similar fake outrage when Mr. Clinton compared Obama’s South Carolina primary win to Jesse Jackson’s;
From the Obama campaign’s pretending to be postracial in public while threatening black superdelegates in private to Obama waiting until black voters vaulted him to the nomination before bashing black fathers with lame stereotypes, the Obama campaign at every turn has sought to use racial politics as a bludgeon, beating the opposition into submission.
In the process, they have set race relations in America back immeasurably, splitting the Democratic party and demonizing Democratic icons in the process.

Or the interview a few years ago when he spoke of the redistribution of funds. His fiscal policies, his association with a known terrorist (in 1997 Obama was more than 8 years old), association with radical PLO officials, and his secrecy of who donates money to his cause give us all reason to question his integrity. Sour grapes for McCain. Obama makes Americans feel good to be American, while McCain and especially Palin, travel around pitting American against American, calling whole regions “communist country” and labeling cities like NY and DC “nothing but elitists”. Drawing the weirdos out of the woodwork and making it okay for nut cases to call out for assassination of a US senator is not the way to win friends and influence people. Now the republicans want to cry foul because Obama raised more money from contributors for his campaign. So they want to accuse him of buying the presidency. If getting more contributions is buying the presidency, it’s got to be much better than stealing it as the Republicans did in 2000 and possibly 2004 with attempts to do the same in 2008. At least the Democrats will win based on votes cast. If McCain can convince his supporters to cast the votes for him, Obama can’t win no matter how much money he has to campaign. The Republicans are big babies and even bigger hypocrits. This is the only rich civilized nation that still openly attempts to steal and cheat to still the highest office in the land. The Democrats are so sure the Republicans will do everything they possibly can to steal the election, the Dems are going door to door til the last possible minute.

Obama supporters – Obama did say he would take public financing: Obama Supports Public Funding
Submitted by John Rauh on February 9, 2007 – 3:58pm.
Barack Obama made an announcement yesterday that could significantly change the course of the 2008 presidential elections. The Senator from Illinois has indicated that, should he win the Democratic primary battle, he would participate in the public funding system to finance his general election race if the Republican nominee followed suit. Obama has asked the FEC whether he can take money from donors who want him to be president, and then give it back later. This leaves open the possibility of using public funding.
Although there is an abundance of speculation surrounding Obama’s request, his long-standing support of public funding is clear. “Senator Obama has long been a proponent of public financing of campaigns, and we are asking the FEC to take a step that could preserve the public financing option for the parties’ nominees,” said Obama spokesperson Bill Burton.
Tapping into the public funding system would set-up a very different presidential campaign. Today the public financing limits are $150 million. Current speculation says that the major party nominees will likely raise and spend over $500 million if they take private money.
Mr. Obama’s lawyer, Robert Bauer, defended the decision: “Should both major party nominees elect to receive public funding, this would preserve the public financing system.”

I clearly remember McCain promissing during the RNC that he would run a clean campaign. Then he got all upset like a 8 year old that Obama did not agree to town-hall meetings and went negative. Not that the town hall stuff would have made any diffrence. McCain got beat in the only Town hall debate too.
McCain tried to run this campaign on his terms and got outmaneuvered at every step by a smater politician.

“The LA Times has a video of Obama and Rashid Khalidi celebrating with Bill Ayers in a anti-Israeli meeting.”
———————
That is a lie, and you know it. Five years ago, Obama attended a meeting of Palestinian Americans (yes, CITIZENS) in Chicago (Bill Ayers was not in attendance). It was one of many events Obama attended that had to do with visiting immigrant neighborhoods. In the film Obama discusses how the Palestinians and Israelis need to find a middleground to stop the violence.
The LA Times editors have seen the film, as they discussed six months ago. They do not own the rights for the video and therefore cannot show it. That would be up to the person who filmed the meeting. The editors wrote about this MONTHS ago and the Republicans weren’t the least bit interested because it is NOTHING. LA Times editors say is shows Obama in a favorable light in regards to Israel. The GOP can stop grabbing at straws. The fat lady is singing.

Not to mention that the former head of Goldman Sachs, Robert Rubin, is Obama’s chief economic advisor – and two current executives are bundling for him (David Heller and Bruce Heyman). “Bundlers” are mega-fundraisers who, critics say, get special access.
Another big Obama bundler is Citicorp’s Michael Froman. Obama’s even tapped him to help put together his new administration.
Obama has tripled McCain’s haul from Lehman Brothers interests.
Citigroup, Morgan Stanley and JP Morgan Chase? More, more and lots more to Obama.”

Don’t fool yourselves, this country is lost and will never be the same. Also it is hopelessly and irreconcilably divided and will never return to its prior state. Where did Obama get that kind of cash? CBS News investigative correspondent Sharyl Attkisson Follows the Money—
Early on, both Sens. Barack Obama and John McCain promised to limit their fundraising – but Obama reversed that pledge when he won his party’s nomination.
Now he ranks as the greatest political fundraiser of all time: More than $603 million, compared to $358 million for McCain.
Obama’s broken another record: he’s gotten more money than anyone in history from unidentified donors – with names like “Doodad,” who lists his employer as “Loving” and has given more than $17,000 dollars – way over federal limits.”

Odd………McCain claims the higher ground when it comes to his “word”. What a joke. He knows as well as anybody that he was one of those who tried to get campaign finance reform through and fell way short by leaving the limits woefully short of what is needed for an adequate campaign. $84 million doesn’t even come close. Obama and McCain both know McCain had Millions in unregulated 527′s. Something Obama had no choice but to meet and exceed or he would have been slandered by McCain without the ability to respond. McCain knows this. It was he and his Republican buddies that chopped and reshaped the legislation so accepting public financing was unrealistic and political suicide. McCain was simply out strategized. McCain knew he needed to limit Obama because the majority of support is for Obama. He needed these limits for a snowball’s chance in hell of winning. Obama made the smart move. Now Mccain is crying. True campaign finance reform provides adequate public financing and eliminates 527′s.

I’ve done the research, checked the websites, Wikipedia’d Obama. This man has acted honorably, resolved all issues to my satisfaction. I have no qualms about voting for Obama. And I did!!!!! McCain only wants to be president so he can boast that he did something better than his father. He cares nothing about the middle and lower classes. We are bugs that he’ll gladly step on. From the LA Times, June 19, 2008: Given Barack Obama’s astronomical fundraising numbers, it was only a matter of time before he decided to eschew public funds to finance his campaign. From today’s Times:
Democrat Barack Obama today rejected public financing for his presidential campaign, changing an earlier stand and becoming the first major party candidate to drop out of the system since it began after the Watergate scandal….
Early in the primary season, Obama had said he would use public financing if his Republican opponent did. But that was before the presumptive Democratic nominee harnessed the Internet and became a fund-raising powerhouse.
This move not only makes Obama the first major candidate in more than 30 years to reject public funding (which forbids candidates from raising private funds), but also goes back on his very public indications he would agree to public funding. (See an earlier Times’ editorial admonishing Obama for waffling on his pledge.)

If McCain wants to call being tricked and outgunned as breaking a promise so be it. From the tax payers stand point he did not take a dime from the government and ran a phenomenal campaign. If runs the office of the president with the same efficiency and provides tax cuts and reduces the deficit. We will have one heck of a President in Barack Obama. If McCain feels like sour grapes too bad. The country has been good to him and Arizona has been very kind to him but I for one look forward to the election day results and to the election of Obama so that I can say thank god that McCain can get back to being a senator and Palin can get back to being a governor of Alaska.

When I found out that Obama was not going with public funding, I was thrilled. If he determined that he would not be able to take the campaign where it needed to go to win the White House and take this country in an essential new direction, that was his moral responsibility and a higher responsibility than not going forward with a promise to the Republicans. If he had gone forward with that statement, that would have been immoral to the people of this country, in my view. The Republicans have stolen past elections to the detriment of this country and we cannot let that happen again. This is not a time of past elections when less was at stake. I want a leader that can make the smartest decision to get us out of the mess we are in with our best interests as the highest priority. Not what will make the Republicans happy or not point fingers etc. McCain’s promise to run a clean campaign was thrown out the window. Get over it. Vote Obama.

Democrats in Congress are now entertaining the idea of nationalizing individuals 401k plans placing in a social security account. They want to transfer amounts at August levels before the market meltdown to try to gain support. Everyone would draw from the social security account. This effort will no doubt be supported by Obama as an excellent solution to spreading the wealth. This along with Obama’s policy on gun control will cause a revolution in this country. Democrats beware. Justice Kennedy was wise and knew what would erupt

Sadly, too many of us vote based on faith, blind faith, the kind that brought us Bush. The church and the state are being merged today together in one in America, thanks to the application of religious wedge issues of abortion and gay marriage. How sad that religion is being used by Republicans to divide us. Such arrogance and righteousness in support of people supposedly of the right moral fiber are at best misguided, and at worst, will lead to the destruction of our country, possibly of the world. When something as horrific as the war in Iraq can be justifies as doing God’s work, something is terribly wrong!! Dropping atomic bombs can be similarly justified. Misguided faith based directives are what led to medieval crusades, killing of millions of innocent people, and it is what led to Nazism. This is why there has to be separation of church and state. Ultimately, we have to base our vote on whether someone is fit to be a leader, and not simply because someone is staunchly pro life, anti gay marriage, etc. Come on, no one wants to kill babies, and no one wants our children to be gay. Just looked at what our vote did to this country after eight years, and we are going to do it again??? Wake up America!

McCain’s response is no surprise – the GOP represents the most cynical, most divisive, most vilifying, whining group of Americans. Until the Republican Party learns that they cannot engage in attacking over half the population in this country to deflect from the party’s own shortcomings, they don’t deserve the trust attached to holding public office.
And John McCain really doesn’t have he moral character to talk about the “broken promises” of anyone. We can go as far back as his first marriage, but in the interest of keeping on the subject, McCain has had quite a few shady contributions to his own campaign from foreign nationals. He scammed the public finance system during the primaries with the assistance of his own party.
I’m ready for this election to be over. Every time the Republican candidates open their mouths now, they sound more and more like bitter, out-of-touch career politicians whose dedication to manipulation and deception is astounding. The American people have an obligation to remind the Republican Party that is exists to serve the people of this nation, not as a special rights group of elites entitled to rule.

MightyMountain – there is no way I’d vote for McCain because he doesn’t ‘believe’ in abortion. It’s LEGAL in this country, and as president he won’t and can’t change that. Nobody LIKES abortion, but there are other issues, like the whole Republican playbook that we’ve had to live with for 8 years. How many American families will sit this Thanksgiving without their son or daughter – killed in Iraq for NOTHING – this year? Thanks, Bush, McCain. Those lives were JUST as important as any other.

M.M., as a Catholic, I’ve been asking myself “how could McCain and Palin claim to be Christian, and yet do the smearing, character assassinating, lying tactics that they are? And their hypocracy is worse than the biggest hypocrites of Jesus’s time. So yes, LET’S GET BACK TO OUR CHRISTIAN ROOTS AND VOTE FOR BARACK OBAMA!!! Some things to know about McCain: He has crashed more planes than any other living Naval pilot who wasn’t flying experimental aircraft; He killed a man while driving recklessly in 1964; he was Rashid Khalidi’s Sr. Director of his board from 1993-1996; He has had multiple affairs; He frequently refers to Vietnamese as ‘Gooks’, He was ACORN’s guest speaker at their national summit in 2006; He was 5th from the bottom if his class at the Naval Academy. He set the USS Forrestal on fire when he ‘wet-started’ his plane while trying to startle an F-4 Phantom pilot on the deck behind him. These are FACTS and they are not in dispute.

I do not understand how “christian tolerance”, can condem others for supporting a woman’s right to chose. Just because someone supports that right, does not make them a “baby killer”, or unchristian. Faith is about acceptance and not division. I do havea problem with people who want to force their beliefs on everyone. If you chose not to support abortion, that is fine, but do not condemn another’s right to chose. Instead of spreading intollerance, if you think pro choice people are wrong, just pray for the serenity to accept the things you can not change and ask your “christian god” for the wisdom to know the difference. Choice is a human right. I believe that is any choice. Free will?

Oh that’s right, there’s no reason for him to show us 30 full minutes of his lies that we’ve already heard for the past 2 months. I’m sure McCain and Palin will come up with something pathetic to air in the next 4 days. Jokes on you November 4th.

Johnny Mac should quit politics after his failed attempt at the presidency, and go back to his Navy career. Then, he could eventually become Rear Admiral John McAnus, and proudly stand on the poop deck of his ship.

The most amazing thing is that the GOP actually expects Americans to believe John McCain when it comes to talking about “broken promises”…when his own life is littered with the residue from his own lack of moral character.
But then personal moral principles have never been the strong suit of Republicans…they’ve always been too busy talking about everyone else’s in order to deflect from their own shortcomings.

I hope that for once, my vote counts. My aunt is 81 and Obama’s grandmother is 86. I would like them to live long enough to see the first African American elected as president of the US. For the first time in American history, America has a real opportunity to send the world a beautiful message. American “is truely” a United Nation. Divided we fall, United We Stand.

From a new article here on ABC:
McCain was referring to Obama’s answer of “yes” on a “Common Cause” questionnaire when asked if nominated for president and his opponent agreed, would he participate in public financing. The senator reversed course on the pledge after it was clear his eye-popping fundraising could give him tens of millions of dollars more than McCain.

Which change are you Obama supporters rooting for?
Higher payroll taxes
Higher capital gains taxes
Nationalized healthcare ala Cuba
Nationalized retirement (no more 401k)
25% cut in defense spending
Honestly, I can’t see which one of these is going to make anyone better off.

It is amazing how you can tell the people who pretend to be Democrats who all of a sudden can’t support Obama. Are people so simple that they really think juvenile tricks will change a true supporters mind so easily? What a waste of time and effort. Has the Republican Party always been such a bunch of whinners and sore losers? Our young people are watching this political contest perhaps closer than anything they have ever watched in their entire lives. Yet, we (America), have a party run by adults who are stuck doing the same tricks as countries who are run by dictators and suppressors. Leaders that divide, engage in war, hate and oppression. McCain is destroying his own legacy because the way he has conducted himself in this campaign unfortunately is how he will be remembered. The sad thing is he doesn’t have a lot of time to redeem his reputation, and eventually all the stories of the infighting within his campaign will begin to show up in some insiders upcoming book. I feel a little sad for McCain.

The lemmings kept following their leader (BO) no matter where he went, and ultimately would go over the cliff as the speed of the game increased. Too bad those of us who aren’t lemmings will also get pulled over the side of the cliff.

Republican Christians should know by now it’s been over 30 years and more Republicans than Democrats have been president. until 2006, the house, senate…Supreme court Justice were Republican held for yearsssss. Why is it that Roe Vs Wade wasn’t changed?
Republicans are very Pharisaic in looking down on Christians who vote Democrat. Most people, especialy Democrats are against abortion.
Pro choice is something all of us were given. Cindy McCain and Laura Bush are on record saying they didn’t want Roe vs Wade reversed. That is no different from Obama being Pro-Choice and not being Pro-Abortion. DON’T LET OTHER CHRISTIANS INTIMIDATE YOU WITH THAT, “Obama wants to kill babies!” If you have the Holy Ghost, you should be decerning enough to know that is not true.
And remember, McCain (who we must pray for), called Christians an “EVIL INFLUENCE” when he was trying to run a few years ago. It was only a couple of years ago, when he was planning for this run, that he tried to make amends. REMEMBER JAMES DOBSON – FOCUS ON THE FAMILY- specifically stated he wouldn’t vote for him! McCain is the same McCain. He hasn’t changed.
The Republican Christians just have to use Palin as a reason for voting for the NAME REPUBLICAN. Too many of them think REPUBLICAN makes them more dedicated to God’s word than those who vote Democrat.
Palin drop lies (along with McCain) like running water. She has a controling spirit and has allowed position to make her someone
she didn’t have to become…
Another Republican is going to take us farther down the hold. We need a change.
After being critized, even McCain had to say…Obama is a Decent Family Man and You should Not Fear Him If He was President….
We don’t have to Hate MCCain/Palin…just don’t vote for them..VOTE FOR OBAMA AND BIDEN…and tell those piestic Christians who think they are the epitome of “the Best Christians” Tell them to tell all those republicans who were caught in adultery-man with man situations that things like that is sinful also.

The fact is Mr. Obama’s plan cuts taxes for 90% of Americans and 98% of small businesses. Are you going to fight to defend the beer money of wealthy people who care so little for you they would rather the United States borrow from foreign countries than pay their fair share? People who won’t keep businesses in this country unless they don’t have to pay taxes? People who won’t invest here unless they don’t have to pay when they make money? When John McCain’s friends don’t pay their share who do you think picks up the slack?
One candidate is telling you we can do more together than we can do alone and the strongest have to step up and carry the weight they can bear. The other is telling you everybody keep what they got and everybody fend for themselves. Who is the patriot and who is being anti-American? Who sounds like a Christian and who doesn’t? Which one sounds like the President of the United States?

Since Obama has lied about financing his campaign, why should any of us believe he isn’t lying about cutting our taxes? Why should we believe anything this guy says at all? His entire life is shrouded in mystery, no birth certificate, no voting record other than “present,” a laundry list of questionable acquaintances: Ayers, Wright, Farrakhan, Khalidi just to name a few, and let’s not forget that he has flopped on almost every issue that has been brought up. I’m not a huge McCain fan, but I’d rather have McCain as president than to let the most liberal member of the Senate turn America into a socialist nation.

I can not believe the ignorance that I am reading. You are all like lambs being lead to the slaughter. Here is a direct quote by Mr. Obama in February 2007, “I proposed a novel way to preserve the strength of the public financing system in the 2008 election. My plan requires both major party candidates to agree on a fundraising truce, return excess money from donors, and stay within the public financing system for the general election. My proposal followed announcements by some presidential candidates that they would forgo public financing so they could raise unlimited funds in the general election. The Federal Election Commission ruled the proposal legal, and Senator John McCain (R-AZ) has already pledged to accept this fundraising pledge. If I am the Democratic nominee, I will aggressively pursue an agreement with the Republican nominee to preserve a publicly financed general election.”
There was a time that a persons word stood for something. If a man (or woman) looked you in the eye and said I will not do something, they didn’t do it. How are we suppose to teach our children that your word should mean something if our leaders don’t stand by their word.
With so many good caring organizations which are in need of your help, you choose to waste all this money that could have really made a difference in the life of a family that may have been left homeless by a natural disaster, a injured child, or an abandoned animal. What a waste of money, had he taken all this money and did something really special with it, I may have really respected him. Instead, I think he is just another self serving politition!

To understand the financial aspects of the smear campaign that Obama has been up against and a better understanding of why in light of this he elected to decline public funding for his election, read the article: Swiftboating: A New Low in Dirty Politics.
Campaigns of misinformation
Swiftboating has little to do with the truth. It’s a smear campaign waged on misinformation and allegations so damning the public is disinclined to give the target the benefit of the doubt. The significant money that goes into swiftboating campaigns is hidden as much as possible and used in unmistakably shifty ways. The group doing the swiftboating is usually a 527, a tax-exempt organization that can raise limitless amounts of soft money.
The next time you hear something negative about a candidate from a group you’ve never heard of, ask yourself who stands to gain from the attack? The next time you hear outlandish allegations popping up out of nowhere, check and see if a “Vets for Fill-in-the-Blank” group is involved. Since the success of Swiftboat Veterans for Truth, scores of similar groups have proliferated. But it doesn’t have to be a group; individual candidates are taking up the task of swiftboating their opponents themselves.

He set the USS Forrestal on fire when he ‘wet-started’ his plane while trying to startle an F-4 Phantom pilot on the deck behind him. These are FACTS and they are not in dispute.

Jake,
I thought you used simple, clear, to-the-point declarative sentences in your report. Perhaps you and I are the only two moderately erudite people around here, for it’s quite obvious that a majority of posters didn’t understand your clear verbiage (or didn’t actually read your report).
John McCain is correct in his assessment: Along with statements about his relationships with Ayers, Resko, and Farrakhan, Obama lied when he promised in writing to use the public financing system. As soon as it was clear that it would be to his advantage, he simply turned his back on public financing and walked away rather than honor his written pledge.
If this is the kind of “stalwart character” we can expect if Obama is elevated to the highest post in the land (and a really good look at his past indicates it is) we’re in for a rough four years. However, the real question is this: Why can’t this man’s supporters look at the actual record, compare what Obama was saying at this time last year to what he is saying now, and challenge him on the discrepancies? Separation of church and state apparently is out of vogue, as the only way I can explain any of this is to label it the way it looks: religious fervor. People don’t question the tenants of their religion, any more than they question this new messianic figure.
In any case, I for one thought you did a good job of reporting this honestly, as it does fly in the face of the usual obsequious manner in which Obama’s gaffs are reported by most of the media. It’s nice to see a political report that simply reports, rather than editorializing. Good Job!!

Senator McCain is very wise to point this out, as it is reflective of one the more blatant of Barack Obama’s lies. And, had Senator Obama realized he could take in over $300 million from donors giving under $200 and choose not to reveal their names, including donations from fake names on credit cards because the campaign has foregone the standard verification procedure.
Another of Barack Obama’s blatant lies about which John McCain could challenge him is his famous “anywhere, anytime” comment regarding debates and townhall meetings. And, what a horrible lie that proved to be. Had he been telling the truth, and if we actually had a mainstream media with a remaining soul, important questions could have been asked, so many of which, now less than a week before the election, remain unanswered. And, icing on the cake, though the mainstream media has excoriated Governor Palin since day one of her nomination about press access, neither Obama or Biden have given any sort of press conference in over a month!
Never in the history of our republic has a candidate received the free ride that has afforded the great Mirage of Bliss, Barack Obama.

Scott G,
Those are not facts and they certainly ARE disputed. Have you talked to anyone on that bird farm at the time of the fire? Better yet, have you seen the film of that event? John McCain was not in his plane when that fire started; in FACT if he HAD been in his plane he would have died that day. When that missile cooked off and went across the flight deck the plane that it hit, and obliterated, was one flown by John McCain!
The rest of your “facts” are no more substantial than your fairy tale about the start of the Forestall fire. If you want to be taken seriously you’d better start doing better research before you start to write. At present you have succeeded only in making yourself look the fool – especially to those of us who were in the sea services and know the truth of that tragic day.

I love when people recite the now WIDELY debunked explanation of the Forrestal. Remember – McCain’s dad was a high ranking Admiral and intervened in the findings; MANY of the brave sailors have spoken out against McCain’s ‘screwing around’ which led to his inadvertent drop of two missiles as the fire kicked up when he wet-started his plane (joking around with an F-4 pilot). Be intellectually honest and quit reciting the VERY debunked tale of the Forrestal. McCain was ABSOLUTELY responsible This is a FACT.

I have changed my mind about Obama. I almost believed his tax cut deal, but all he has done is raise taxes. At least McCain has always been for lower taxes.
Now, almost everyday, a new criminal terrorist, socialist or marxist was/is in Obama’s life.
Obama had his original birth certificate sealed – Why? Was he born in kenya?
Obama has his school records sealed – Why? Was he a foreign exchange student?
Obama has fought numerous law suits regarding his “natural-born” status – Why? Is he a citizen of Indonesia?
Too many questions, too few answers.

McCain’s sour grapes attitude is not in the least bit obscurred by his claims that Obama was somehow dishonest with him. MSNBC FOX CNN all have been kicking in free coverage for McCain 2 to 1 over Obama. Weeks of this imbalance have produced the

Obama lied about public financing, lied about agreeing to debate McCain in town hall meetings, lied about his relationship to ACORN, only to remember that he got $800,000 in csh from them. Lied about Ayers, Wright, Khalidi, Rezco, and his relationships with these anti=american people. He has no experience in anything, and he stated he has campaigned in all 57 states. He’s a dolt and if you think he’s going to give you a tax break your a fool

The two campaigns talked about this public financing but could not reach an agreement and no contracts were signed.
McCain “promised” to run a clean campaign, as well, and has lied since day one.”

____
The two candidates both AGREED to accept public financing but then B O changed his mind when he realized he would be unable to air his ears in the largest available arena come the convention.
And by then, he was so used to spending your money….. on buying delegates and and busses under which to throw his typical white grandmother and, the second time around his a-typical black pastor who DARED to call him a “politician”!
As for “Dirty Campaign”, how much dirtier could Obama have played it then by sending his goons up to Alaska to get the “dirt” on Palin…. and her daughter Bristol….. and her son, Trig.
He did the same thing with Hillary…. yand with Cindy…. yet no one has been crass enough to go after HIS children or, sufficiently, to stick a fork in Michele!
Obama is a smooth talking dirty politician from the land of dirtuy politicians.
He has never won a clean election.
Should he win this one, you will NOT be happy with him BUT
Everyone’s entitled to his or her vote.
BUT JUST O N E !!!!

Such a smooth talker! (ie So was Hitler)!
Obama has lied so much & people dont see this???! Very scary!! What sheep!!
Obama isn’t even a US citizen!!!!
He has never ‘proved’ it!
The “Associated Press” is running this election! What a farce it all is!!! Can’yall say “One World Gov.”?!
That’s not a secret anymore! And people are falling for it like Obama is their Messiah! Why? Because he would be the first black Pres.? Really great reason to vote for the guy! Forget about “THE FACTS”, we need a new skin tone this time! God help the US!

Sorry McCain, WE paid for it, and it felt good. It was not broken promises, but hope that paid for those ads.

Sorry, hope did not pay for one single cent of that infomercial. The American people, mostly the poor and struggling did. For Obama to spend over 4 million dollars for a 30 minute infomercial is an absolute travesty.
If he does get elected next week, and I pray to God he doesn’t, he will have bought his way into the White House with almost 3/4 of a billion dollars of other peoples hard earned money. Will he be worth it. I highly doubt it.

The “poor and struggling” are paying for McCain’s PUBLICLY FINANCED campaign; the only people who are paying for this ad are those who donated money to Obama’s campaign fund. I think it’s great that Obama isn’t forcing the entire nation to foot the bill for his race.

Will Obama blame the three quarters of a billion dollars and the illegal foreign country campaign contributions on his white half or his black half?
I guess we’ll have to wait for his next appearance on The Daily Show. (I’ve got better thing to do so forgive me if I’ll pass.)

It’s pretty amusing that people are calling Obama a liar, saying for that reason we shouldn’t vote for him. Yet they are most likely voting for McCain/Palin who collectively have barely managed to utter a single (coherent) sentence in this entire campaign that hasn’t contained a lie somewhere. This includes lies by omission.

McCain never kept his promise to run a clean race, all he does is launch dishonorable attacks. In a country full of 700 Billion dollar bailouts, its refreshing to see a candidate work to earn your donation. McCain took the lazy way out, relying on our tax dollars and lobbyists to fund his campaign.

Guess what. He’s not even black.
He is 50% Caucasian from his mother’s side. He is 43.75% Arabic, and 6.25% African Negro from his father’s side.
He doesn’t even qualify to register as an African American. You have to be at least 12.5% to be able to do that.

Get used to Obama lying.
The only difference is now you’ll see what a guy who has zero depth does.

“I think it’s great that Obama isn’t forcing the entire nation to foot the bill for his race.”
You think it’s great that Obama is committing fraud?
Democrats love fraud.
Wait until Mitt Romney buys all prime time on all networks next election.
