McCain: Obama Doesn’t Have ‘What it Takes’ to Protect Nation

ABC News’ Bret Hovell reports: With just over five days to go before the country votes, John McCain attempted to turn the storyline of the campaign to national security in a speech this afternoon in Tampa, Fla.

It was the harshest criticism of Barack Obama’s readiness for the office of president that McCain has leveled in the campaign.

“Barack Obama has displayed some impressive qualities,” McCain said of his rival for the White House. “But the question is whether this is a man who has what it takes to protect America from Osama bin Laden, al Qaeda, and other grave threats in the world. And he has given you no reason to answer in the affirmative.”

McCain’s acknowledged that much of the country has been distracted by the economy. His argument for refocusing the debate on national security was that the economic crisis the country is undergoing will pass, but the national security challenges will still be there.

“We’re going to pull through these hard times — and do it together, just as our country has done before,” McCain said. “But when that day arrives, and the worries of financial crisis have fallen away, we will find awaiting our country all of the same great challenges and dangers that were there all along. They mattered before the economic turmoil of the present. They will matter still when it has passed. And in a time of war, at a moment of danger for our country and the world, let it not be said of us that we lost sight of these challenges.”

His clear implication: when the economic mess is settled, will you still want Barack Obama to be president?

McCain cited the possibility of terrorist attacks in making his case for his candidacy over Obama’s.

“With terrorists still plotting new strikes across the world, millions of innocent lives are still at stake, including American lives,” McCain said. “Our enemies’ violent ambitions must still be prevented — by American vigilance, by diplomacy and cooperation with our partners, and by force of arms as a last resort.”

McCain cited the Joe Biden comments, in which the vice presidential nominee on the Democratic side said that Obama would be tested as president, and pointed to Obama’s desire to negotiate with counties with which the United States has tense relations.

“In each case, Senator Obama presents his plan for direct talks as if no one before had ever considered that,” McCain said. “He seems unaware that more talk has been tried many times to no avail and that our adversaries recognize such gestures as a sign of weakness.

He cited Congressman Barney Frank’s statement last week that he hoped to cut defense spending under the next administration.

“We’re getting only a glimpse of what one-party rule would look like under Obama, Pelosi, and Reid,” McCain said.  “Apparently it starts with lowering our defenses and raising our taxes.”

The Obama campaign responded with a statement e-mailed to reporters.

“As usual, John McCain made his stale case for continuing the Bush-Cheney-McCain foreign policy that has completely failed to defeat Osama bin Laden and al Qaeda, while Barack Obama will turn the page to restore our security and standing in the world,” said Maj. Gen. J. Scott Gration, on behalf of the Obama campaign.

McCain was flanked by a number of what the campaign described as his national security advisors, including Senators Lindsey Graham and Joe Lieberman, Governor Tom Ridge. McCain had met with a group of them before making his statement, in a national security roundtable. Lawrence Eagleburger and Jim Baker dialed into that meeting but were not there.

During his remarks, McCain cited as one of his advisors Dr. Henry Kissinger, and mentioned that Kissinger was one of the people who helped negotiate his own release from prison. McCain has dramatically increased the use of his personal biography on the stump in recent weeks.

As a devoted republican for more than 35 yrs this stateman by the McCaoin camp is funny!!! What makes me think that a man that is 73 yrs old, that acts and looks ill will be a better protector. If he dies Sarah Palin will have to protect us!! Scary!!!!!! Joe Biden has more foreign policy experience in his little finger thatn McCain has in his whole being, a fact, period. I am sorry I will not support this loosing ticket. Sarah Palin is a negative joke, shes all over the place with her message, what a joke. Today she decided that the tax issue is not working for them so she again starting attacking Obama. Sad!!! I urge all republicans who are smart to reject this non-sense of Palin.

I guess I miss what McCain’s great qualifications as Commander in Chief are, does he base it on his experience as a prisoner? Were the Vietcong teaching him strategic planning or something. I thought his time was spent just getting through the day like the other POW’s.
Why on earth should I feel safer with his feeble finger on the trigger?

OK, John, we’ll BE AFRAID…. BE VERY AFRAID…. even though your boy Bush ignored the report that Bin Laden was going to attack inside the US, and you and your ‘safety qualified’ group were UNABLE to protect us in 2001!
We’re going to have to take your word that you’re the man to do it – it’s the only leg you’ve got left to stand on!

McCain says that Obama hasn’t shown that he is able to fight osama bin laden and al qaida, but neither has he. McCain needs to explain how invading Iraq has made us safer against terrorism and why staying in Iraq forever will help us. The Iraq war emboldened Al Qaida and actually helped Osama Bin Laden recruit more terrorists! We need to go after the terrorists where they live and plot, not wait for them to come to us in Iraq or anywhere else. Obama has said this and he is right.

Sarah Palin today again started attacking Barack Obama. She is all over the palce and its really hard for her to stick to good ideas. The Tax issue is just not working. A new poll came out today trusting Obama with the tax issue.
BARACK OBAMA WANTS TO GIVE 95% OF FOLKS A TAX CUT. IF YOU MAKE OVER 250,000..YOU WILL NOT PAY A DIME IN TAX IN FACT YOU GET A HUGE TAX CUT, A FACT.
BARACK OBAMA WANTS TO CUT CAPITAL GAINS TAX FOR ALL SMALL BUSINESS.
BARACK OBAMA WANTS TO STOP THE DOUBLE TAXATION.
OBAMA IS FOR THE MIDDLE CLASS AND THE WORKING CLASS.
MCCAIN IF FOR THE WHEALTHY ONLY, A FACT. LETS NOT FORGET HE HAS SEVEN HOMES OR MAYBE MORE HE DOES NOT REMEMEBER. HE STATE THAT HE NEVER PUMP HIS OWN GAS. HES A RICH PERSON WHO CARE LESS FOR THE POOR AND THE WORKING CLASS.

So McCain thinks Obama is not the man to find Osama? Really? This from the guy who supported the current president who basically gave up hunting Osama so he could fulfill some personal animosity against Saddam, versus actually waging war where it made sense? Really? Me thinks this old white guy is playing bait and switch again. Go figure.

Its hard to find a more revered and loved American than Andy Griffith. When I think of a true American I think of him. Andy Griffith stands for truth and wisdom, and has been considered a faithful veteran, and someone who would never support communism. Andy grew up when the world was under attack by nationalism, and then he was a part of our national fight against communism. Often during his show, The Andy Griffith Show he would teach us lessons on right and wrong, and what the true American way is. His son in the show, famed director Ron Howard is also considered an American icon, and someone you can trust to do the right thng for America. Ron and Andy have put their support behind Barack Obama for President, because they believe he represents the BEST for America. They would NEVER support someone who didnt love this country as much as they do, nor would they support someone who was a threat to us all. Lets all be like Andy Griffith and vote for Barack Obama! Lets make America the America that Andy Griffith believes in! Obama/Biden, as American as apple pie!

How does being a P.O.W. give McCain what it takes to protect America from Bin Laden? Give me a break!! He is nothing but a bitter, broken, old man who throws temper tantrums. He would rather push the button first and ask questions later. If he had what it took, he would have a plan of withdrawing slowly from Iraq and focusing on Afghanistan where Bin Laden probably is!! But no, he is content to stay in Iraq for the next 500 years! Palin would definitely be no better at it.

Posted by: imo | October 29, 2008, 5:25 pm 5:25 pm

I used to support Sen. Obama, but Sen. McCain has unilaterally disarmed himself of Barack Obama’s middle name and his radical religious advisor the Rev. Jeremiah Wright. Had he used those and did what Sen. Obama has done, smear and destroy the other guy’s integrity, he would win this race hands down for sure no problem, but he had the honor and magnanimity to run a positive campaign. We should reward him for that with our vote. Sen. Obama made a lame excuse of make-believe 527s to justify his “parallel public finance,” when he had the mainstream media in his corner all the while. What Sen. McCain said today was soft compared to the reality. The truth is, Sen. Obama doesn’t care about us small-town Americans. He thinks we cling to guns and faith, and equates it with bigotry to explain our bitterness. He calls the Constitution, which he wants to swear to protect and uphold, he calls it a flawed document because of its restrictive instead of affirmative nature. Barack Obama doesn’t care about the America that is and was; he sees a new America where the Warren court wasn’t radical enough. He sees an America where taxpayers subsidize the lifestyle of non-taxpayers. He sees an America that is morally equal to tyrants and terrorists.

Just another diversionary tactic, still grasping at straws, trying to find the one thing that’ll change the direction of this election. Well, it’s too late. The election has been going on for a week already with early voting. Even if McCain could turn the tide, Obama already has a head start. During the Democratic Primary, when Hillary had the momentum, California started their early voting. By the time the primary election day came, things had turned in Obamas favor. Obama won more votes on election day, but Hillary had more early votes and it was enough for her to win California. The same thing is happening right now, early voting is going for Obama and he will win the general election come Nov.4, even if McCain somehow changes the direction of this thing. It’s already over but the crying…and we’re seeing plenty of that.

Obama has already stated he will cross borders to find the enemy in Americas War on Terror. He will be silent about it, but deadly all the same. I will wager you that within a year of his first term, he will have successful precision strikes that will cripple the terrorists network while bringing our troops home.

Senator McCain – I am 83 years of age. Before the Civil Rights Act of 1965 which made it illegal I paid poll taxes and while not required to take a literacy test (probably because I was white) – so the RIGHT to vote is the bedrock of my being this election. The right to vote for someone who said this “war of choice” was the wrong war. The right to vote for someone who selected as his Vice President a man recognized around the world as a fearless man in face of aggression and a tried and true spokesperson of the American people (not a Governor who spoke before conventions advocating that Alaska remove itself from the nation). The rigth to vote for someone who calmly explains (if you are willing to listen) to why he thinks the way he does – NOT the way he is supposed to think so he can get GWB’s endorsement and solidify his political base. The right to vote as a mother whose baby son was killed in Viet Nam who recognizes your service, but recognizes that you as Eisenhower said “military industrial complex will be a threat to this nation” cannot separate yourself from the trigger and put yourself at a table of reconciliation. The right to vote for a man who has energized the youth to whom OUR generation (yours and mine) are handing a plathora of problems that in no time of history has an equal. The right to vote for a man who recognizes that the middle and lower income need tax relief (NOT a redistribution of wealth which when George W. Bush gave the tax cuts to the wealthy WAS the greatest redistribution of wealth in the nation’s history FACT). The right to vote calmly WITHOUT FEAR – so well done during the Karl Rove campaigns of 2000 and 2004 and whose staff George W. Bush handed to you after you dismissed Mr. Weaver – without fear as Franklin D. said “nothing to fear, but fear itself.” I am an old woman and I know an angry old man when I see him – Senator McCain, you are an angry old man whose service has been appreciated, but it is time for the Ship of State to be anchored in a harbor where the titans of the future – our most beloved children and grandchildren – will steer and keep it safe under the guidance of a man I have longed to see come forward – a man I cast my vote proudly for. Senator McCain – you are doing a dis-service now to the country you hold so dear. McCarthy days are over, you were young then – I was not and your rhetoric is very close to that which tore our nation apart. Bless our nation and if I have offended anyone, it was not intentional – just some heart felt thoughts from an old lady who has labored long in the vineyard and who prays for this country that blessed her (and broke her heart) many times.

Obamacrat for McCain, I doubt that you were ever for Obama. You obviously get your information from Rush Limbaugh as evidenced by your referral to Obamas view of the Constitution which mirrors what Rush said yesterday on his radio comedy show. A Rush Limbaugh listener is more ignorant than an O’Reilly viewer, so spare us the fake indignation. Everyone knows that McCain went negative first, and that at one point McCains ads were 100 percent negative. Obama has run his campaign with dignity and respect.

I’ve said it before; we don’t need to leave Iraq just because the rest of the world wants us to. The real problem is Iran, and being in Iraq & Afghanistan provide a strategic advantage with dealing with them.
Osama has become the symbol of islamic terrorism, so I think Bin Laden’s reference is nothing more tan a figure-head of a problem at large!
I do think we have to stay in Iraq as long as we can just so we have “eye on the corn-field – Iran.”

Just because he say’s it, you believe it? He agreed to accept public election funds then backed out of the agreement proving his word means nothing.
Are you that uneducated that you do not understand the taxes he wants to impose on America? You think the tax cut he promises but cannot possibly deliver due to the economic crisis are worth our national security, our jobs?
His tax cuts will not help those in the unemployment lines because our employers laid us off to offset the higher taxes.
The only thing he has shown me is that he can take millions of dollars and spend spend spend to buy an election. Example being this “infomercial” tonight on tv, unbelievable waste of money.
He’s real good at spending money, wonder where he will get it from in the future??
All his “mentor’s” are radicals aligned with terrorists and he refuses to reveal his past records or discuss the marxist views he wrote about in his own book.
Educate yourselves and think long and hard before you vote a national security risk into the highest office in the US of A.

What we know about Obama is how he ran his campaign. With efficiency, skill, competency, and effectiveness. How did he do this? By picking the right people to do the job. This is a skill in itself. Hillary Clinton picked loyal supporters to run her campaign, but they did a horrible job. McCain has hired and fired three different camapaign managers since he started, and went bankrupt and had to borrow money to keep his campaign going. Obama picked the right people to run his campaign and they did a fantastic job. As President, he will pick the right people to run this country. Things will change from the bumbling incompetency of the last eight years if you vote for Obama.

I just heard that McCain is going to be running a 30 min commercial on Monday, he is going to be sitting around a table with Bill Ayers/Tony Rezko/Rashid Khalidi/Rev. Wright and they are going to be talking about how they shapped Obama into the Socialist he is! Then at the end of the commercial, McCain will appear live with Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpen to announce that they will be part of his inner circle should he win the White House! Should be a good commercial!

He has been Bush’s pal all along, voting with him over 90% of the time. A vote for McCain is just Bush in the WH for 4 more years!! It could be worse though, McCain could die and then Sarah would be President!!

Putting aside my continued disgust for the us against them cold war rhetoric (cap against communist; men against wmen, black against white, etc.) and juvenile name calling, I am tired of the republican fear mongering. When we got sick of Britain, when Russia put missiles in Cuba, when we were attacked after pearl harbor, we didn’t get scared and talk endlessly about facing the dangers and put fear into our hearts, we came together as a strong fearless nation with the conviction that we could and would overcome these “dangers” while at the same time dealing with whatever problems we had at home. Ever since 9/11 the Republicans have been using fear and trembling in our boots as a tool to do away with civil liberties and justify whatever political and social agenda came along. This fear bs is not American, I mean I know that there are dangers out there but do you think all this fear and danger talk is making us look strong and ready to our enemies, once again the Republican practices are feeding right into our enemies’ hands. Wake up! (almost as ludicrous as the Republicans convincing “Joe Average” that the party cares about them when all of their policies (and results of those p[olicies) favor the rich and corporate types – really how do average people see the “Spread the wealth” issue as an implication that Obama would make their money and give it those that are poorer? Maybe if they realized that Republicans are really concerned that money might be taken from those that better off and given to THEM they might not see it as such a bad idea). Not advocating selfishness here just making the point that it’s funny how people can be swayed by ideas that obviously go against their self interests.

Every day McCain switches attack schemes. He’s yet to put out any kind of plan that differs at all with the Bush/Cheney Administration. McCain’s campaign team is scattered and McCain himself has proven a total lack of leadership skills. Too bad because it took him years to rebuild a reputation after the Keating Five scandal and now he just looks like an old relic from the past still trying to keep up. The rats are now jumping ship. Even Sarah Palin is unabashedly looking beyond this election and trying to set herself up for 2012. It’s time to pack it in John, it’s over.

And a year ago, the media was all in love with Hillary…you didn’t hear Hillary supporters trashing the media then, did you? Getting the media on your side is all part of the political game and Obama beat out everyone else in this game too. Sorry McCain, you’re yesterdays news!

They’ve lost what little message they had.He makes Bush look good. He’s emboldened the skinheads and racist by his horrible campaign tactics. The man has no sense of decency or honor left. The world is watching your hatefilled, racist, namecalling lying campaign. Someone needs to remind him what the internet is. The world is watching the hateful rhetoric.I would never want someone like you as president. You sold your soul to the devil to try to win an election. All you down to earth good Democrats….take a closer look at the political history of Obama in Chicago politics….and his wife who had a salary of $316,962 as a VP of a not-for-profit University of Chicago Hospital,,,along with 16 other VP’s…about 5 Million in executive salaries..I can see why it was not for profit! I think the closer you examine their history instead of their talk you will see you have very little in common with them!!

Fanofthe48, We will never know how our founding fathers would have reacted to a socialist in their midst, but it is true that its as likely they would incorporate some of his beliefs into the constitution, as it is that they would reject them. They wanted to be inclusive of most beliefs of the colonists there at the time. They wanted to be fair, and nothings says they wouldnt have liked some aspects of the system. They obviously molded the constitution with the ability to account for different beliefs and changes occurring.

It will be a grave mistake by the USA majority to put Obama in the white house. He is a psychologist and knows what the USA majority want to hear. He lacks the experience to rule a nation that is so complicated like the USA. McCain has done his duty to alert the nation about the danger of putting Obama as President based on the failures of the Bush admin. A word is enough for the wise.

This old man should be ashamed of himself for what he is doing. He has lost all respect and integrity is not just unfit to be President but to be a Senator. Again, attacking Obama by using OBL and AQ to scare America. He has nothing of substance but scare tactics. Yet, he fails to talk about how he supported this adminstration almost 100% in their war and anti terrorist program that has yet to get OBL or AQ. He should be ashamed of what he is doing to America, dividing America between the rich and the working class, fanning the flames of hate, and promoting bigotry. This man is no patriot, but in fact a home grown terrorist himself when he can cause this kind of harm to the country he claims to love. He would trample the progress and sacrifices of so many for his lust for power. Shame on you.

There is nearly nothing of what was once admirable in the Republican party left.
It is intellectually, spiritually, morally and politically bankrupt, and largely in the hands of Yahoos, orcs, and trogdolytes now.
What a shame.
The obvious character defects and ignorance of a McCain/Palin would likely finish off what is left of the hope for this nation’s furutre.
I only hope that all of what was at one time best in the old Republican party – the party of genuine thinkers such as William F. Buckley, and men with integrity and true conservative vision such as Barry Goldwater – will re-form itself into a party and movement that I could genuinely support again.
As it stands now, this incarnation of the party has been mostly lost to all of what is worst and most ignorant in the country.
A shame, a genuine shame. Something truly to mourn over.
And precisely why I will be voting the Democratic ticket this time – in whose presidential and vice-presidential canidates much of what was once best in the Republican party, and of what is best in human beings in general, can be found.

Throughout this horribly long campaign cycle all McCain and Palin have done is attack Obama and Biden, dredging up all the mud they can and slinging it willy-nilly, hoping some of it will stick. Meanwhile, neither one has come up with ANYTHING constructive — not regarding the economy; not regarding Iraq; not regarding Bin Ladin; not regarding energy; not with how they would handle any one of these problems, all of which are of grave concern to all Americans. McCain is a hot-head whose credo apparently is ‘shoot first, and ask questions later,’ while Palin is a loose cannon who’s more concerned with her own self-interest than the welfare of the country, or, for that matter, her party and the presidential candidate. McCain can’t publicly chastise her because to do so would be an admission of his poor judgment in selecting her as his running mate. Of course, it’s obvious to most Americans and the rest of the world as well.

Like McCain is full of himself if he thinks he can protect America. From what? Under Bush, we have not ever been bothering to search for Osama, not once, and in the meantime, we did not even beef up our security at our airports, ports, etc. The little bit we did is not enough to stop terrorists.
So who does McCain kidding in thinking that he himself can protect America, when for years Bush, another Republican, wasn’t doing a good job?
Meh, he’s using the same scare tactics used 4 years ago by Bush. This tactic isn’t new for it was used for the past two months. I keep hearing it that it no longer means anything to me.

To demsnever:
You have somehow decided that you can be a spokesman for the African-American race.
What you don’t realize is that many Black people did not make up their minds until after the Republican convention. That is when the Republicans showed their true colors, by laughing and mocking at Obama’s experience (according to them the lack thereof), as a community organizer, and someone who was not even paid in his work with some of Chicago’s poor.
What you must have overlooked, is that Sarah Palin has focused on “rednecks,” and has omitted anyone who would otherwise not fall into that category.
What you do realize, I am sure, is that when the KKK and their sympathizers mobilizes on the side of the GOP, just to defeat Mr. Obama; then where is the choice for the Black voter?
If you had a clue as to how Black people think, feel, or otherwise have shared the Black experience here in America, then you would have an opinion.
However, your words seem to be from a very empty source…
I am speaking of decent people who have seen their churches bombed, Black-owned airport in Kasas bombed, commercial areas divided by highways that separated communities from the business districts in Black communities. Just a couple of years ago in Glendale California, a Black buisiness woman tried to open a deli, that would have been very successful had not the KKK continued to slash her tires and break the windows of her establishment. The same thing happened just recently in Victorville California.
You really cannot blame people for seeking a change for the better; except of course if you are the one guilty of the above travesties.

Sis was a chearleader and involved in music and sports. Her teenage years ended when she started to show. No dances, no graduation ceremony. No weekends with friends, no social life, no music. No, most senior citizens don’t support McCain.Palin. Although he is 72, and a senior himself, he wants to cut Medicare and give it to us in a $5000.00 insurance credit. Do you know what that means? That means you will have to work harder and longer to pay for your parents and grandparents health care since they won’t have any with Medicure cuts. That 5000.00 won’t even pay for the current 6000.00 annual insurance premium cost I pay this year. Next year I’ll pay $9000.00 in annual insurance premiums. Plus I pay $7500.00 in deductible, and $4000.00 for out of pocket expenses. Let’s see that adds up to $17,500.00 this year, and $20,500.00 next year. Gee, by adding my parents and grandparents, I’ll go broke. Be smart, wise, and knowledgeable. Elect Obama.Biden with Clinton for change 2008.

Look at the Republican gatherings….Look at McCain/Palin gatherings…..If they represent the party of Christianity, then where are the people of color?
I read where St. John said in Revelation, and I paraphase: “I saw people from every tribe go into heaven.”
If heaven will be made up of different ethic folks, then why does the McCain/Palin rallies seem to be all of one group? This troubles me….
On the other hand, look at Obama/Biden rallies…..In fact, look at the Democratic Party….. If two white men were head of the Democratic ticket, do you really think the Republicans would have select Palin?
It would have probably been the same ol same ol….

I think most half way intelligent person in America will agree that Colin Powell is a better judge of who can best protect America than John McCain will ever be. All McCain’s claim to fame is that he was a POW. Powell led this nation’s military in the first Gulf war with stunning success. A brilliant military men of exceptional intelligence coupled with his experience as Secretary of State makes McCain look like a clown. Facts are facts, Powell’s judgement wins day in, day out.

SOS; dude,,,”what the F*@& are you talking about??
If Obama looses, many will pin it on his experience; I mean, take one of Obama’s standard lines: his claim of “twenty years of public service.” As pundit Michael Medved has pointed out, the numbers don’t add up. Shall we count?
Three (3) years in the US Senate (two of which he’s spent running for President), plus
Seven (7) years in the Illinois State Senate (a part-time gig, during which time he also served as a law professor) equals, at most, ten.
Even if we generously throw in his three years as a “community organizer” (whatever that means, let’s count it as public service), that still adds up to just thirteen.
Obama’s other activities since 1985 have included Harvard Law School, writing two autobiographies (including several months writing in Bali), prestigious summer law firm jobs, three years as an associate at a Chicago law firm, and twelve years part-time on the University of Chicago Law School faculty. As Medved notes, it takes quite the ego to consider any of those stints “public service.” Which of them is Obama including?

The same old tired Republican argument, taxes, taxes, taxes. What the Republicans have done here and what they always do is, promise tax cuts while they take away your income and jobs. Then when they run their crooked campaigns, they say the Democrats will raise your taxes. Even if you look at their lies about Obama and the other Democrats running, and you believed them on taxes, would you rather pay your fair share and have a good high paying job? help your country rise up and make a good living at the same time? or would you rather see the wealthy get huge tax cuts while you get nothing and lose your job and income at the same time? because that is what the Republicans have done and they -always- do. Here is the real reason why you should be voting for Obama and Democrats from now on, Obama will not only lower your taxes, he will give you 3 times the tax credits McCain has offered and Obama will create jobs and get you your incomes and businesses back too. The Republicans have failed us for many years with this same old tired argument to keep their wealthy friends rich. They sell you tax cuts really meant for their rich friends while they screw you out of your jobs and destroy the economy. STOP VOTING FOR REPUBLICANS, THEY ARE LYING TO YOU. Look at what they actually do, not what they say to you. Look at their record, record unemployment, record deficits, record foreclosure, record bankruptcy and on and on and on, FACT. If you still believe them, you deserve everything they’ve handed you, and you have no one left to blame but yourself because you keep voting for them.

A number of Republican senators have expressed frank fear that McCain is simply too impulsive to be Commander in Chief. They have seen him screaming obscenities at the top of his lungs at people, including Republicans, in the halls of Congress. Charles E. Grassley, John Cornyn, Rick Renzi, Richard Shelby, Thad Cochran, Pete Domenici, Tom Freestone, Evan Meacham, Robert Wexler, Barbara Barrett, Sandra Dowling, John Hinz, are all Republicans who have been abused by McCain, and a number of them have expressed deep concern about how McCain would comport himself in a crisis were he President. One went so far as to say that the prospect ‘sent a chill down my spine.’ The recent debacle in Georgia (the nation, not the state,) gives us an unnerving example of how impulsiveness of a president can cause disaster.

McCain’s choice of Palin has mystified some, but it isn’t mystifying to me–it’s another example of political opportunism and shooting from the hip. If you vote for McCain, be prepared for four years of more impulsive, poorly considered decisions. In the final analysis, McCain is a typical Republican and Obama is a typical Democrat. McCain is elderly, and has had several bouts of cancer. A vote for McCain gives us a reasonable likelihood to be a vote for President Palin-and she is definitely not of Presidential caliber. She is also very far to the right of typical moderate Republican views-she is a member of the “black helicopter” fearing, the UN is out to get us, end the separation of church and state, all Christians who aren’t fundamentalist protestants aren’t real Christians, witches and demons are among us crowd.

George Bush has completed the job of destroying US credibility and prestige in the world. What he started with the Iraq war, founded on lies and conducted as a boondoggle for Halliburton & Bechtel, escalated with the “Heck of a job, Brownie,” fiasco, he has completed by destroying the US banking system, if not the entire economy. Congratulations! Four more years, anybody? I’m sure the Al-Qaida are rooting for McCain. What Al-Qaida couldn’t do, the Republicans are doing quite well-destroying America.
McCain’s claim to be a ‘maverick’ are absurd-he has voted with Bush 90% of the time, has over 80 lobbyists on his staff, and has elected to veer to the far right in his campaign, to the point of taking advice from Karl Rove. A better description would indeed be erratic, as he claims Obama would raise taxes more than he would one moment, and then the next moment comes up his very own $300,000,000 pork-barrel give-away program to people who borrowed money they couldn’t possibly pay back.
As far as economic definitions of conservatism go-the Republican party is now the liberal party, as they have expanded government and its debt far more that the Democratic party have. In an amazing switch of historic roles, the Democratic party is now the party of fiscal conservatism.

Apparently, McCain wants to eliminate the progressive income tax, despite the fact that some people are failing to make ends meet working two jobs, while others can afford private jets and 200 foot yachts. After all, some poor guy working for $7.50 an hour can just as easily afford a 20% tax as somebody who buys and sells baseball teams, right? Thanks, John – We’re drowning and you want to throw us an anchor. I’d say that this, and not remembering just how many houses you own, makes it pretty clear where you stand economically-for and with the selfish, greedy fat cats who are fleecing us for a TRILLION DOLLARS! The latest Giuliani robo call is almost recordbreaking in its sleaziness. It claimed, completely falsely, that Obama is against mandatory jail time for child molesters, rapists, and murders. It turns my stomach to see the despicable libel and slander to which the Republicans have turned.
Senator Goldwater’s granddaughter and the rest of his descendants have endorsed Obama because they can’t stomach the sleaziness of the Republican campaign or the philosophy of the ‘new’ Republicans-today’s Republican party is nothing like the Republican party of Goldwater, Rockefeller, and Eisenhower. George W. Bush and Karl Rove have turned a fiscally conservative, socially moderate, small government party into a disgusting machine for the looting of the taxpayers by well connected big businesses like Halliburton and Bechtel. They favor intrusion into private matters such as whether or not a woman should get an abortion, and Palin favors the end of separation of Church and State. McCain clearly would give us more of the same as the current Administration. Their incompetence has given us huge budget deficits and a catastrophic failure of the banking and finance system. No wonder traditional Republicans like George Will and Secretary Powell are leaving the party in droves. The new Republican party’s motto should be, “Not your father’s Republican Party -Unfortunately!” Vote Obama for a return to sanity and responsibility.

Really?
I wonder where we would be today if hot-head McCain were president during the Iranian, excuse me, Cuban missile crisis, when all the hawks were screaming “invade now!”. We would not be having this conversation.
However, I do not fault McCain for voting to attack Iraq. Attack is what hawks do.
And I do not fault Obama for voting against the ‘surge’. Obama is not a military man, and can no more advise a military campaign than a hawk like McCain can keep us out of one to begin with.
I expect the President to keep us out of conflict, as Obama would have done, not run the ground war.
However, I suppose, given his advanced age, McCain believes Palin has what it takes.
Which loops us back again to McCain’s clearly and obviously bad judgment.
And given his proven bad judgment, Mr. McCain in no position whatsoever to judge Mr. Obama, or anybody else for that matter.

People want to deride Obama for his associations, but Jesus often associated with the worst of people. He let it be known that these people were the ones who most needed guidance, from a wise friend. He said you shouldnt push these people aside, you should take them to your heart and try to influence them in a positive way. Spiritual people know this is truth. So has anyone considered that may be why Obama may associate with anyone.

My objective is not to spew damanation, but to present a mirror in the face of some who have never bothered to take a look at themselves. You happen to be one of them who i saw as exuding a particularly agregious pride in greasing your fangs…
You say that Obama lies… I say we are all guilty of everything we blame others for; and the one throwing the stones is the greatest deceiver/forked tongued snake.
You mention Ayers, but you fail to mention Reagan and Annenberg in your one-sided dissertations. They too “paled around with terrorists, to the tune of about $50 million dollars).
You speak about Obama’s campaign finances, as if you were privy to anything other than your own dwindling bank account!
If you were honest, you would have to admit that no one from the Obama camp has either asked your opinion or otherwise consulted with your peculiar form of “expertise” in this matter… Remember, too much Fox television is bad for the mind.
Speaking of “a stand-up guy”… you sound like you view the world as a comedy club. It appears that sound judgement has eluded you, and is not something that you can “wrap your arms around.”
Well, do not be surprised if you are repelled by wisdom or truths that you have not yet come realize. I hope that someday you will.
Obama, like all of us, is human and has his faults. I am in no wise saying that he does not; but I refuse to accept the battered rhetoric you have borrowed from other diminished souls.
I would say that a better choice for president would not be your “stand-up guy, but rather an “upright guy” (quite different from someone seeking some shallow atta-boy critique by empty, entertainement-seeking, couch potatoes, who have yet to formulate their first thought).
This is not to say you are that type of person, but there are those vacant-minded, slow-bellied, dyed-in the wool spacesaver kind of individuals, who base their whole existences on nothing more than “stand-up guys.”

Pedro: I must commend your honorable efforts, but your points may fall on mostly deaf ears. Most of these conservatives are cardboard-christians; they go to church on Sunday and then forget about it the rest of the week. They are anti-abortion but have no qualms about starting mis-managed wars that kill thousands of civilians, opening concentration camps outside of the rule of law and then torturing people there, executing convicted felons even in some cases where they are mentally ill, ignoring the plight of the sick and the poor. Real christians have to decide if these things really represent their beliefs.
Continue to follow Jesus’s example in all things.

Since you know so much about Jesus and taxes, what do you know about the fish’s mouth?
What do you know about the cold, dark journey to Bethlehem by a very pregnant Mary, and the carpenter Joseph, when all the world was under the Roman edict to be taxed…
I am not a supporter of taxes, but Jesus did say to “render unto Cesar the things that are Cesars’ and to God the things that are God’s.”
By the way, I believe I saw the same
“Christian” show you watched regarding taxes and sin; and I also saw thru their religious postering.
Thank God Jesus Christ wants personal relationships, and not the all-too- often tainted religious rhetoric, and the holier-than-thou perpetrators of hypocrisy.

If that’s the case it should have been brought up earlier, and I don’t care. John MaCain had an affair too. You should at least want to know if something is true before you start taking about lt!

Thanks Hippie Smasher, I wouldve been disappointed if someone didnt swing on me. I made it clear before that I didnt believe that Obama is Jesus and wasnt making like he is, but its important to realize that there are ones among us who have greater wisdom, and may be more advanced spiritually, and those are the ones who Jesus set the examples for. He lived a way in order to show how we should live. He would be hated today for the examples he set.

McCain, Palin and the RNC already know that Sen. Obama is this nation’s next Commander-in-Chief and they know he will be an excellent president !
So not any of McCain’s WEAK campaign tactics, the RNC, and his supporters’ attacks of lies, hatred, fear, racism, and division WILL NEVER PREVAIL against Sen. Obama – this nation’s next Commander-in-Chief !!!
You [ Barack Obama], are from God and have overcome them [the enemy's attacks, schemes, and plots ] , because the one [God] who is in you [ Barack Obama] is greater than the one [the enemy ] who is in the world. – 1 John 4:4
No weapon forged against you [ Barack Obama] will prevail, and you [ Barack Obama] will refute every tongue that accuses you [ Barack Obama] . This is the heritage of the servants [ Barack Obama] of the LORD, and this is their [ Barack Obama] vindication from me,” declares the LORD. – Isaiah 54:17
” I [ God ] will send my terror ahead of you [ Barack Obama] and throw into confusion every nation you [ Barack Obama] encounter. I [ God ] will make all your [ Barack Obama] enemies turn their backs and run.” – Exodus 23:27
They will fight against you [ Barack Obama] but will not overcome you, for I [God ] am with you [ Barack Obama] and will rescue you,” declares the LORD. – Jeremiah 1:19
The Lord will rescue me [ Barack Obama] from every evil attack and will bring me [ Barack Obama] safely to his heavenly kingdom. – 2 Timothy 4:18
11 For he will command his angels concerning you [ Barack Obama] to guard you [ Barack Obama ] in all your ways; 12 they will lift you [ Barack Obama ] up in their hands, so that you [ Barack Obama ] will not strike your [his] foot against a stone. 13 You [ Barack Obama ] will tread upon the lion and the cobra; you [ Barack Obama ] will trample the great lion and the serpent. – Psalm 91:11-13
I have given you [ Barack Obama ] authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you [ Barack Obama ]. – Luke 10:19
It’s time for the American people to get it right and NOT vote for McCain-Palin, instead vote for change. It’s time for this country to turn the page and seek a new and better future for ourselves and our children. It’s time for REAL change in Washington, it’s time to elect Barack Obama for president !
Obama-Biden are the wiser and stronger team to solve the crucial challenges we have in this nation and abroad !
Amen.

Wow! You can actually smell the fear in the republicans on this blog. You can tell that the republicans are going down hard just by all of the insults and name calling. I guess if my candidate had no policy on anything but the status quo, I would start calling the other side names as well.
Hey republicans, good call on bush! Yeah! You know how to pick them! 4 more years, 4 more years!!!!
It must suck that no one believes you any more! It must suck that no one is afraid anymore! It must suck that the president, the House, and the Senate is going Democrat! It must suck to be you!
President Obama! Get used to it!

Try this on your big brain, then:
McCain opposed the Bush tax cuts, now he supports them, and calls anyone who disagrees ‘socialist’.
That makes him a very recent socialist, by his own definition, or one completely ignorant of the term ‘socialist’ by anyone’s definition.
Take your pick, brain man.

Yes, I am able to look myself in the mirror on a daily basis, and thank my God that “we shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed…”
I do find myself disgusted, however, when I realize that we must abide the demonic hoards of people like you, for just a little while longer, until the time of the indignation is past.
I will say this. If you do not look at yourself soon, and at the bitter venom in your heart, your light will be put out in utter darkness. In case you are not aware of it, you are headed in a downhill course to oblivion, with rocket speed. Because of this, you should be disgusted at not having much time to see yourself…

BigDaddy: why all the divisivness? Arent politics enough to divide us, let alone religion. You want completness, then try a personal relationship with your Father, God. No church has the right to stand between you and your Father. Why should you allow your big brother to charge you fees so that he can take your note to your Father? You have, by birthright, the right to speak with your Father. Every bit as much right as your brother.

How then do you know the Bible?
Do you read it yourself?
Have you read this part?
“For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned?”
Do you know this part?
“For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again…Matthew 7:2 ”
Are these in the Catholic Bible?

Posted by: save our souls | October 29, 2008, 7:54 pm 7:54 pm

How does McCain think he has ‘what it takes’ to keep this nation safe? Is it his graduation at the bottom of his military class? Or cracking up multiple airplanes? Or that he can hum ‘bomb bomb Iran’?
McCain said rather forcefully in the debates that we must fight on in Iraq and elsewhere until we achieve ‘victory’, or else American service persons who gave their lives will die in vain.
Such is patently incorrect.
It is not possible to die in vain in service to America. Military action sends a clear signal to those who would threaten America’s freedom and security, regardless of outcome. McCain’s doctrine of ‘all deaths avenged’ is a recipe for future, more protracted wars.
McCain is incompetent, where he should be his strongest.
I also do not agree with McCain’s idea of rushing former Russian satellites into NATO. This is dangerous, pre-mature, and risks setting nuclear trip-wires in unstable regions. Even our Secretary of State recently commented that we have not fully understood or appreciated Russia’s feelings and positions on the issues regarding these areas.
McCain is impulsive and reckless, and, even with the years, still just doesn’t get it.
As for ‘experience’, Ive had about all the republican ‘experience’ I can stand.

theantibush:
I’ll try to make it clear for the slow kids in class:
OBAMA the Socialist is such, NOT because of tax increase or decrease, oh foolish one! HE is Barack the Socialist because of his “REDISTRIBUTIVE JUSTICE” tenants! Those same tenants are that which can be found in the “Communist Manifesto” by William Ayers buddy Karl Marx! Taking money EARNED by one group of people and giving it to a different UN-EARNED group of people! Furthermore, his beliefs of Government controlled healthcare… that is only the first step and it is usually the first step any velvet-COMMUNIST-revolution takes before they swoop in to control all!
If Barack the socialist is elected… you better learn to say “comrade!”

BigDaddy, I believe you mean tenets. You were referring to people who reside somewhere.

Posted by: Jo | October 29, 2008, 8:04 pm 8:04 pm

BigDaddy, The tenets you speak of refer to taking from those who make more, to provide for those who make less, but you seem to make it out like it is meant to give something for nothing, and that is not the case. It simply is about lifting up those who lag behind. Its similar to being involved in a race where everybody wants everybody to complete. Its a charity marathon that isnt about coming in first, but about cooperating to make sure we all complete it. So those who are faster come back and help along and encourage those who cannot run as quickly.

Concerned American: “name one”
REDISTRIBUTIVE JUSTICE: That is all anyone needs to hear to RUN the other way!
But if you are looking for details, how about mandated (nice word for FORCED) healthcare… how about giving “tax credits” which is a nice word for WELFARE to people who don’t pay taxes(idiots tried that… did not work). How about the fact that he wants to nationalize healthcare in essence! How about his 5% tax hike on investment… how about his tax hike on corporate America (when its already the SECOND HIGHEST tax rate, second only to Japan) who by the way provide your jobs, sell you your goods… Do you retards think that those companies are going to actually pay those increased taxes…? or cut jobs and raise the price of that ‘mocha blend’ you tree huggers like to drink!? Which brings me to the sheer stuipidity of Barack the Socialist, not wanting to drill for our own oil THAT WE HAVE here in the USA… but continue to buy it from Venezuela, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Russia, etc. Green is GREAT, but we need oil today… Green is for “tomorrow”
In any event, given the fact that O’bum-a wants to go against every basic fundamental principal that the founding fathers of our Country built the USA on is reason enough to NOT vote for him!
You Barack the Socialist supporters are all a bunch of SHEEP…! Bhaaa

Socialism is already a fact of life, whether we like it or not; under this administration.
The banks are nationalized, all the markets are connected, the same thing is happening in all countries of the world at the same time, and all the central banks of the world are under the same economic umbrella.
Read the headlines, if you really want to be informed, that don’t contain the bywords: Republicans or GOP.

Palin says Obama is “Not like us.” I certainly hope not! I’m not like her, either. I don’t go on $150,000 shopping sprees with other people’s money. I don’t hate Catholics, Mormons, Masons, and everybody who doesn’t believe that Ally Oop really, really did saddle and ride dinosaurs. Her preacher said that anyone who voted for Kerry in the last election would go to hell for it. Her prayer group prayed for the death of Princess Di and Mother Teresa-and believe that God granted their prayers. Her husband wants for Alaska to secede from the Union. Her pregnant unwed daughter wasn’t allowed to know about birth control, and a panel dominated by fellow Republicans decided that she had behaved unethically as governor of Alaska. In her interview with Katie Couric, she was completely, comically incoherent when asked a simple, straightforward policy question. Lady, I am nothing at all like you, and I’m proud of it. You betcha, durn tootin’ gosh-darned right I am. If a $10 contribution to the political party to last have a federal budget surplus – the Democratic Party – will keep Palin from being one elderly, cancer-prone heartbeat away from the leadership of the free world, where do I send my check?

Posted by: BenjaminF | October 29, 2008, 8:23 pm 8:23 pm

“That’s why I say I, like every American I’m speaking with, we’re ill about this position that we have been put in where it is the taxpayers looking to bail out. But ultimately what the bailout does is help those who are concerned about the healthcare reform that is needed to help shore up our economy. Helping the—it’s got to be all about job creation too, shoring up our economy and putting it back on the right track. So health care reform and reducing taxes and reining in spending has got to accompany tax reductions and tax relief for Americans and trade—we’ve got to see trade as opportunity, not as competitive, scary thing, but one in five jobs being created in the trade sector today—we’ve got to look at that as more opportunity.”
This an exact quote of Palin’s response to the question regarding whether or not the Wall Street bailout was a good idea. Does she sound ready for the leadership of the free world? Senator McCain is 72 years old and has had two bouts of cancer. Saturday night used the quote verbatim, apparently feeling that they couldn’t improve on it for comedy.

But Palin isn’t funny-she’s frightening. Sarah Palin is a member of a hate group so vicious that they preyed for the deaths of Mother Teresa and Princess Di, and so crazy that they believe that God answered their prayers. If you are a Mormon, a Catholic, a Mason, or a member of many other decent and respectable groups which they call “corrupt religious systems,” you are on their hit list.

As usual with Republicans, the fix was in when Palin put out for bids for her pipeline. Her team leader for the bidding process was closely tied with the winner. Halliburton, Bechtel and Cheney all over again. As usual, Republicans with greased palms fleece the taxpayer. McCain’s campaign has over 80 lobbyists working for it. Laughing at the taxpayer’s gullibility, the Republicans promise taxpayers lower taxes, but deliver only to the very rich and their buddies. Meanwhile, the people (aka marks,) who vote for them listen to the spiel and pay no attention to what the con mens’ hands are actually doing with the shells on the table. Well, Republican donors, keep those nickels, dimes, and quarters coming. Palin’s $150,000 wardrobe is starting to look a little threadbare.

Obama will make a fine leader and if war is necessary I have NO WORRIES WHATSOEVER that he will do what is right when it is necessary to do so. He will listen to high ranking military officials and make sound and clear judgement on any issues facing this Nation. I know you think you’re so great, and your cronies just want you in there so they can keep their money-making and brainwashing and mind manipulating schemes up for a few more years. But you know what? You ARE NOT what this country needs right now. Too many times Obama has come up with a good idea and next thing you know Bush is enacting it… just like the new diplomacy tactics they are talking about taking up with Taliban and Pakistan and Afghanistan. That was Obama who said maybe we should at least try a little diplomacy?? And guess what? He was right!! Now Bush wants to try diplomacy. WOW! What a concept. What would you have done? You would have just bombed bombed bombed Iran and then ask questions later. That is getting us nowhere! And will get us nowhere FAST! Except into more major wars and confrontations that we won’t be able to handle nor should we have to handle as your mistakes? We don’t need more Republican minded mistakes. We need new change, REAL change, not just talk, empty promises, and rhetoric! So please step aside and let someone else bring some good ideas to this country and let us prosper!!!

I see now that it is really company that you crave. You have not had this much attention in a long time, perhaps never.
Your rhetoric is not borne out of intelligence or desire for meaningful dialogue. it is borne of a need for attention, and due to an extreme deficit in your personality trait.
You have not heard anything that anyone else has said, not even what you yourself have been saying. You are a creature of sense, and have only felt the need for more, more, more… Your need seems to be just to feel something, anything.
Your appetite for punishment is insatiable, surpassed only by your need for containment.
It was nice to have you to bounce very relevant ideas off of, however, even though you represent nothing more than a very large body.
Perhaps some day you will find true love.

I can see why you support McCain, obviously you have much in common. Its sad really that all of your life you have been taught to live in fear of the big bad commie, and now you actually believe that boogie-man is at your door. I am fearful for your safety, perhaps you should have yourself checked into a psychiatric hospital for evaluation, before you do something irrational.

Big Daddy:
Just for the record, you are equally poor right now, are you not?
Furthermore, you throw around the word commuinist and liberal as if they belonged to you…
You are just borrowing these words, and misusing them, I might add.
Your nationalility does not concern me; I too am of Native American heritage. My ancestors, realtives and friends have also fought in this country’s wars. I read the obituary at the funeral of a family fried who was killed in Viet Nam, and his name is inscribed on the Viet Nam Wall Memorial in DC. He was due to come home, with a contract awaiting him to play for the Milwaukee Braves (at that time), but he came home with his head having been blown off 2 days before he was to be released from duty.
So you don’t have a monopoly on service to this nation either.
It is your attitude that gets you the most attention, and you know it.
By the way, what does the Catholic Bible say about the word Liberal? In the King James Version it says:
“The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself. Proverbs 11:25″
When did the word liberal get changed, and by whom?

Update America:
What does spreading the wealth really mean? Not only tax credits as most of you think but it will also include Condemnation, the taking of property under Eminent Domain sometimes with appropriate compensation.
The majority opinion in the Supreme Court case involving New London, Conn., limited the homeowners’ rights by saying local governments could take private property for economic-development-related projects because the motive was to bring more jobs and tax revenue to a city. Moreover, the federal government may use land that is considered for the good of the general public.
How does it work? Charlie, no property owner, is included in a federal land project that supports giving owned land (property) to those persons the federal government considers qualified to own land. Joe the land owner has 24,000 square feet of land on which Joe the land owner only uses 12,000 square feet for housing. The federal government in its share the wealth program condemns half of Joe the land owner’s owned land and gives him a tax credit as just compensation for the land. The local government sub-divides the property into two lots. The half that was condemned is now titled to the new owner, Charlie no property owner, who is now Joe the land owner.
Condemnation can apply to Joe the land owner with large acreage. The federal government in its share the wealth program condemns 10 acres of Joe the land owner and gives a tax credit as just compensation. The local government zones the property as residential and sub-divides the land into housing lots. Charlie, no property owner, is selected to receive a lot to build a house.
Wake up America your rights are melting away by the way of socialism.
No Obama share the wealth programs for those in the know.

Why are Obama’s tax cuts considered socialism and McCain’s are not.

Posted by: Just Wondering | October 29, 2008, 9:31 pm 9:31 pm

It’s funny how McPalin supporters throw around the words “socialist” and “communist” like they actually know what it means. At the very least, look it up in a dictionary before you throw it around like you own it.
Americans pay “socialist” taxes for:
-Highways
-Public Schools, Universities and Colleges
-Social Security
-Military and Veterans Health Benefits
-Montgomery GI Bill
-Farm and Business Subsidies
If you have a problem with socialism, then get off the damn road, quit school, and stop rotating your farm crops for subsidies.
Also– If you want to throw around names of dystopian and violent movements of government– look up Nationalism, and see what direction Bush, McCain and the neocon thugs have been pushing this country in. Of course, I’m much less of a patriotic American than a McPalin for pointing that out, right?

John McCain and similar jingoists are unable to effectively deal with terrorism since they fail to grasp the goal of the terrorist is to provoke outrageous military response.
The United States, thanks to George Bush and his surge buddy, John McCain, is now stuck with our head in the sand of Iraq while the realities of shrinking world oil and changing world finance are kicking our exposed hind quarters all day long. They can keep doing this for as long as we are stupid enough to assume the position.
Next to the arms dealers, the terrorists — and some domestic fundamentalists — would benefit most by an ever widening world war. They need the disruption of society in order to flourish. This is why Iraq served to increase their numbers. They aren’t trying to create a new order, they want chaos, to send the entire world back to the middle ages. In this way the will be free (in their view) from the power of organized nations, whether democratic or not. For this reason they are most similar in purpose to organized crime.
What the Red communists attempted to do in Korea and almost succeeded to do with Vietnam was to provoke the United States into a never-ending foreign war against phantoms, to drain our resources away from domestic needs, to increase our internal political strife, and to isolate and reduce the stature of the United States as a reasonable and dependable ally in the progress of nations. They intend to further weaken the United States by keeping us stuck in war and away from the kind of progress in education and technology that is required to solve the energy crises and maintain our civilization.
When FDR said we have nothing to fear but fear itself, he may as well have been referring to terrorism. If the enemy wants you to be afraid, should you go along with that? If the enemy wants you to go ape and launch your firepower, should you do it?
America has literally armies of people who are smart enough to deal with terrorism. General Petraeus, Sec. Defense Robert Gates, Richard Clarke, and dozens of others come to mind at the top. The “heroes in the trenches” needed in the war against terrorism are not 20 year old kids humpin’ machine guns, they are people doing some pretty mundane jobs, more like police work than cowboy shoot-outs.
The neocons decided to throw out the established principles of life among nations and decided that “Shock and Awe” would bring about the “New American Century”. John McCain signed on to that. Their plan was tried. Their plan has failed. Many good people warned about this outcome and don’t want to see it repeated.
If John McCain has qualities as a strategic military thinker, they were shown neither in the academy nor in the field, and he left the service with no advanced rank. He is a distinguished former POW and we thank him for his service. However, being a POW is a tragedy and following the Code of Conduct as a prisoner is a duty. It should not be touted to the public as proof of presidential quality, as many other former POW’s have pointed out. It is proof only that one survived hell, as many human beings have done and still do, of far humbler circumstances than those of the great-great grandson of a slave owner (Teoc plantation, Mississippi), and grandson and son of Navy admirals, the Senator John McCain.
If he wants to hold himself forth as a military leader, compare John McCain to Dwight D. Eisenhower. There is no comparison. McCain’s “experience” by that measure is less even than Barack Obama’s, a civilian leader, because both Eisenhower and Obama approach problems with care and precision in reasoning. Such men are not “mavericks”, “risk seekers”, or “dice rollers” with the lives of Americans.
In conclusion, Obama has the intelligence and temperament to handle the job, John McCain does not. Colin Powell is only one of America’s most qualified people to have made this judgment. I believe we have in Barack Obama the living potential of presidential leadership of great caliber we have not seen for many years. Many Americans are now inspired, many will be, some will miss the point. God loves us all.

Obama/Biden above the line, pass; McCain/Pailin below the line, fail.

Posted by: Seneca | October 29, 2008, 11:58 pm 11:58 pm

Again, and again, and again, all McCain can do is attack his opponent. All McCain tells us about himself is that he’s against Barak Obama.
Why doesn’t he tell us what he’s for? Why doesn’t he tell us what he would do as president? Is it because his positions and policies are so close to George Bush?
What happened to the John McCain of 2000? I respected that man and might have voted for him if he were running in 2008. But the John McCain of 2000 has been replaced by an angry fear-monger who ran an inept campaign and was too busy attacking Obama to be bothered to tell me why I should vote for him.

If Barack Obama is sneeringly, sarcastically called by rightwing-hate mongers, “the messiah”, then I guess John McCain ought logically to be called “Satan?”
Indeed, if we look at it biblically, in fact Obama makes no claim to be any polarizing false messiah. That is a right wing straw man. In fact Obama just wants the USA to return to its principles and have us all team up to help pull the remnants of our country out of the maw of Republicans, lobbyists and big Corporate and Wall Street robber barons. Does that merit sneering on the part of you cons that most of the country, if not you and your base, wants to try to get things going in a better direction other than warmongering, debt, job loss hypocrisy and selfishness which we have had under Repubican rule? . If that merits sneering at, then it shows that your right wing chant of “USA, USA” is really a smokescreen and you should rather chant “WE WANT TO FINISH DESTROYING THE USA”.
I guess Democrats and average working independent people are guilty as charged for wanting the American people and their party and their presidential nominee to offer some kind of honest, positive programs to get people back to work, keep them in their homes and help our country achieve an energy independent future and repair its infrastructure. Those goals SHOULD BE every American’s desire, but apparently they are NOT the desire of you who belong to the Republican right wing base. You sneer at rescuing the country from financial ruin that eight years of Republican ownership of the White House and 6 years of unitary Republican control of both Houses of Congress and of the Supreme Court,…the mess that the Republican reign of Error has made of the United States.
You and your Republican Satan, John McCain, always have put yourselves and your party first. And your candidate(s) practice, daily lying, slander and character assassination. You show that you only care about winning and not about helping our country out of the hole that you and YOUR “messisah” George Bush have dug us into.
So, your right wing use of the term “messiah” to try to sarcastically refer to Democrats hoping for someone or something to deliver us from the evil that has been done by George W. Bush and the Republican party, is par for the course for this party of hate mongers, big borrow-and-spenders and dead-end war mongers that have put us all into the poorhouse. And what is most telling is that ironically a lot of this hate is coming from typical right wingers who call themselves “evangelicals”, but in fact their behavior much more closely resembles what the Bible describes as the behavior of the children of Satan. I want to know where in the Bible Jesus approved of the Republican practices of lying, character assassination, feed-the-rich-selfishness, hypocrisy and moralizing smugness? These so-called evangelicals are actually not practicing any kind of biblical Christianity at all. They pose as children of light when in fact they behave like children of darkness and do what the prophets, and the real Messiah, Jesus the Christ, the Son of the Living God said NOT to do: namely, practice lying, hate, and siding with the rich who James, the half brother of the Lord said “drag the poor before the judgment seat”.
So, these right wing phony-‘evangelical’ attack sheep and hate mongers, hypocrites and Pharisees all, in fact bring DISREPUTE on the very name of Christ and they are among those very hypocrites, those false believers, of whom the Lord himself spoke and said “depart from me, workers of iniquity, I never knew you.” Therefore, oh un-Christian cons, JUST WHY do you think the REAL Jesus is YOUR Messisah when you lie and don’t practice the truth? Didn’t the apostle John say that “if a person claims to be a believer but walks in darkness, HE (OR SHE) LIES AND DOES NOT (PRACTICE) THE TRUTH?”.
Cons, go ahead and cling to your satanic charlatan John McCain YOUR ANTI-Christ-anti-messiah that flaps his wings like a chicken as he slanders away and tears down those trying to help our country out of the rathole it is in.
Do you want Satan-McCain to save your party from minority-and-gay-loving liberal socialism? You bet you do. But you want to practice right wing ‘national socialism’ (feed the rich, enslave the poor) and you behave like the old Soviet Communists used to do: you accuse others of what you yourselves are guilty of. You did and do redistribut OUR national wealth to Wall Street fat cats but you call Obama and Democrats “socialists”? Look in the mirror for your own socialism, cons. It is you, not the Obama people whose behavior is the delight of Satan the devil, as you spew forth your campaign, full of repetitive-unrepentant hate, lies, slander and self-serving hypocritical smugness that is the enemy of average working people. Yours, my hypocritical cons, are what the Bible you claim to believe labels as “the works of the flesh” and not ‘the fruit of the Holy Spirit.’

I’m writing because the Republican smear campaign against Barack Obama has gone too far. Their tactics of guilt by association are straight out of McCarthyism, and their fear- and hate-mongering against Muslims has reached the level of the propaganda used to justify the internment of Japanese-Americans during World War II.
First the Republicans wanted us to believe that knowing a “terrorist” from the 1960’s made Obama dangerous and possibly a terrorist. Now they’re trying to convince us that since Obama has a friend who’s Palestinian, he’s not only dangerous but anti-Semitic as well. Well, folks, I had a Palestinian friend when I was in graduate school from 1982 – 1985, and since I’m a Jew who lost nearly everyone in her family in the Holocaust, what does that make me? (A human being, I hope.)
Then there’s the frenzy the Republicans are trying to build against all Muslims. As Colin Powell said, what makes America great is that we have a Constitution that protects and encourages people of all races, creeds, and religions. But Sarah Palin ( Barack HUSSEIN Obama) and her partners in hate have decided that the Constitution no longer applies to Muslims.
Finally, I want to make it crystal clear that I am NOT an Obama supporter. In fact, on Tuesday I’m going to vote for Ralph Nader because he’s the only one who gets Pakistan. But the Republican tactics are making me ashamed to be an American, so I decided it was time to speak up.

How does Obama propose to “take care of us”, when he can’t even take care of his family?
We’ve all heard about his brother George living in poverty on $1 month in a 6 x 9 hut, now we have his Aunt Zeituni living in the slums in Boston and an Uncle Omar who was evicted and no one knows where he is, he just disappeared.
Chicago has the highest violence rate in the U.S. If he can’t clean up his own town, how is he going to clean up Washington and lower crime in the U.S.?
Does Obama care? Obama only seems to care about himself and his own self interests.

I hate to do this, but I’m going to anyway, just for those who can’t get beyond the tripe the convicted drug addict Limbaugh and neo-nazi Hannity put out. It’s unfortunate that many out there in America either can’t or don’t take the time to discover the real facts and I for one simply get tired of it. The issue now being falsely aired regarding Barack Obama’s association with the distinguished Palestinian American, professor Rashid Khalidi can best be answered by an article appearing in Harper’s Magazine by Scott Horton. Scott absolutely tells the truth. Here it is and I hope many who otherwise wouldn’t bother do read this do so and pass it on. I’m cutting and pasting the article because this former Republican is getting tired of the lies my former party is fomenting:
The New McCarthyism
By Scott Horton
The last weeks of every presidential campaign I can remember bring out the crazies. Candidates are reviled as “racists,” “Nazis,” “Communists,” and the like. But this year the process has gotten nuttier and more malicious than usual. Perhaps it is a sign of desperation, given that polling does not suggest a close campaign, and a party now long entrenched appears to be poised for a swift kick in the behind—for the second time running.
Still, I was amused at how absurd some of this is. The National Review is worth examining regularly these days–it has turned into something of a circular firing squad. I used to read and love it back in the heyday of William F. Buckley, Jr.’s editorship. It was home base for a certain rigorous, philosophically based conservatism that valued the classics. I search in vain through National Review today for any trace of the erudition and intellectual integrity that Buckley brought to the publication. And I suspect that Buckley himself was unhappy with the magazine’s course in his final years. Two years ago, I spoke at a conservative, religiously affiliated college in the South and discovered that my predecessor at the lectern, just the night before, had been Buckley. When I asked how his talk had gone, my faculty handler told me it had been a surprising experience. Buckley spoke at some length about the mistakes that the Bush Administration had made, starting with the Iraq War. When one student observed that his comments were rather at odds with the views that appeared in National Review, Buckley replied, “Yes. We have grown distant.”
In the current issue of National Review, Andrew McCarthy continues his campaign to link the Democratic nominee to various and sundry Hyde Park radicals. This time it is “PLO advisor turned University of Chicago professor Rashid Khalidi,” who now heads the Middle Eastern Studies Department at Columbia University. Khalidi, we learn, makes a habit of justifying and supporting the work of terrorists and is “a former mouthpiece for master terrorist Yasser Arafat.” And then we learn that this same Khalidi knows Obama and that his children even babysat for Obama’s kids!
This doesn’t sound much like the Rashid Khalidi I know. I’ve followed his career for many years, read his articles and books, listened to his presentations, and engaged him in discussions of politics, the arts, and history. In fact, as McCarthy’s piece ran, I was midway through an advance copy of Khalidi’s new book Sowing Crisis: The Cold War and American Dominance in the Middle East. (I’ll be reviewing it next month–stay tuned.) Rashid Khalidi is an American academic of extraordinary ability and sharp insights. He is also deeply committed to stemming violence in the Middle East, promoting a culture that embraces human rights as a fundamental notion, and building democratic societies. In a sense, Khalidi’s formula for solving the Middle East crisis has not been radically different from George W. Bush’s: both believe in American values and approaches. However, whereas Bush believes these values can be introduced in the wake of bombs and at the barrel of a gun, Khalidi disagrees. He sees education and civic activism as the path to success, and he argues that pervasive military interventionism has historically undermined the Middle East and will continue to do so. Khalidi has also been one of the most articulate critics of the PLO and the Palestinian Authority—calling them repeatedly on their anti-democratic tendencies and their betrayals of their own principles. Khalidi is also a Palestinian American. There is no doubt in my mind that it is solely that last fact that informs McCarthy’s ignorant and malicious rants.
McCarthy states that Khalidi “founded” the Arab American Action Network (AAAN). In fact, he neither founded it nor has anything to do with it. But AAAN is not, as McCarthy suggests, a political organization. It is a social-services organization, largely funded by the state of Illinois and private foundations, that provides support for English-language training, citizenship classes, after-school and summer programs for schoolchildren, women’s shelters, and child care among Chicago’s sizable Arab community (and for others on the city’s impoverished South Side). Does McCarthy consider this sort of civic activism objectionable? Since it was advocated aggressively by President Bush–this is “compassionate conservativism” in action–such an objection would be interesting. Nor was Khalidi ever a spokesman for the PLO, though that was reported in an erroneous column by the New York Times’s Tom Friedman in 1982. That left me curious about the final and most dramatic accusation laid at Khalidi’s doorstep: that the Khalidis babysat for the Obamas. Was it true? I put the question to Khalidi. “No, it is not true,” came the crisp reply. Somehow that was exactly the answer I expected.
Of course, Khalidi has been involved in Palestinian causes. McCarthy ought to ask John McCain about that, because McCain and Khalidi appear to have some joint interests, and that fact speaks very well of both of them. Indeed, the McCain–Khalidi connections are more substantial than the phony Obama–Khalidi connections McCarthy gussies up for his article. The Republican party’s congressionally funded international-networking organization, the International Republican Institute–long and ably chaired by John McCain and headed by McCain’s close friend, the capable Lorne Craner–has taken an interest in West Bank matters. IRI funded an ambitious project, called the Palestine Center, that Khalidi helped to support. Khalidi served on the Center’s board of directors. The goal of that project, shared by Khalidi and McCain, was the promotion of civic consciousness and engagement and the development of democratic values in the West Bank. Of course, McCarthy is not interested in looking too closely into the facts, because they would not serve his shrill partisan objectives.
I have a suggestion for Andy McCarthy and his Hyde Park project. If he really digs down deep enough, he will come up with a Hyde Park figure who stood in constant close contact with Barack Obama and who, unlike Ayers and Khalidi, really did influence Obama’s thinking about law, government, and policy. He is to my way of thinking a genuine radical. His name is Richard Posner, and he appears to be the most frequently and positively cited judge and legal academic in… National Review.

More fear tactics from the Right, painting all of these “Gloom & Doom” scenarios. Obama is proposing a roll back of the Bush tax cuts, which have been proven to be a failed experiment. I am old enough to remember life before Bush. I don’t recall, at any point, the seas boiling, the mountains crumbling or cats living with dogs. I chuckle when I see these posters try to justify a weak argument by attaching an “ist” or “ism” to it. To put it in perspective, we are a country of Capital”ists” that carry 25% of the world’s debt. We are basically China’s b**ch right now, yet they practice Commun”ism”. We’ve supported regimes in the interest of promoting Democracy, yet eventually the weapons we send end up in the hands of Terror”ists”. Additionally, there is no question that without elements of Social”ism”, our infrastructure would fail. Do you ever go to the library? How about the hospital? Do you drive on the highway? Do you expect a “Social” security check when you retire? I’ll take it if you don’t want it. And, to top it off, most people don’t really understand the true meaning of Socialism or Marxism, they are just spouting off the same rhetoric that they’ve been spoon fed by the Right for decades. Any tax, on it’s face, is a redistribution of wealth. McCain himself has been quoted as saying he didn’t agree with the Bush tax cuts, citing the same reasons as Obama. Do we now have selective memory? I doubt that everyone in this forum makes over $250K a year. You would be helped under the Obama tax plan. These labels are just a way to divide us. They have no bearing on the current state of affairs. Would you have called Reagan a Socialist? Wake up people! Don’t fall for it this year! Vote Obama/Biden!

Obama has been saying no new taxes if you make less than $250,000. Last night, he said no new taxes if you make less than $200,000. Today, his campaign clarified that meant families. Individuals making less than $150,000 will will see no taxes. So which is it? I guess domestic partnerships get screwed? Why does his plan keep changing from day to day? It would be nice to have him stick to one policy.

Osama is just about the only thug that Obama doesn’t have some sort of relationship with. Chavez and Castro love him.

Collin Powell endorsed Barak Obama! Enough said. . .

McCain suffers from PTSD and Sarah Palin is dillusional. I don’t trust them with this Country’s safety! Collin Powell is right and so are the other GOP defectors.

Monkeyboy – Is this the best that you can come up with? Why don’t you stop whining like a little girl. Obama is 10 times more intelligent than McCain and will make a far better president. If you can’t offer any constructive comments to the national discourse, why don’t you go pound sand?

Well said, TheLight315 @ Oct 30, 2008 1:08:19 PM
Many, many excellent posts here. Two for example:
1) I was especially moved by a kindred spirit in sense of history, a most honorable woman of 83 years who posted as OnTheGloryRoad @ Oct 29, 2008 5:31:00 PM
2) Utterly dispelling the smears being used about Rashid Khalidi is an article (originally in Harper’s Magazine by Scott Horton, titled “The New McCarthyism”) quoted by devilkev @ Oct 30, 2008 1:03:36 PM
On behalf of myself and others, I pray Harper’s Magazine allow its use here to stand, as a kind of fair use because it’s appearance here is not intended to detract financially from Harper’s Magazine or the author, but to promulgate information highly in the public interest where time is critical.
To all the poor devils posting hate-monger drivel against Barack Obama, you do nothing in your pitiful ways but awaken the spirit of righteous liberty which founded America. You wave our flag, the Stars and Stripes, but you do not know what it means, nor do you understand the meaning of the Constitution of the United States of America.
To those poor devils I say, thank you. Your venial anger and lies have reminded us that the true threat to American life and liberty is complacency and ignorance among the people.
We will speak to you on November 4 and beyond. We will reply to Rush Limbaugh and his long campaign to pervert the mind of the American public. We will reply to the whorehouse political tactics of Sarah Palin.
Our reply is not violence or the threat of violence. Our message is hope, not fear. With brotherly love, we send a message to you and to the world with our votes for Barack Obama.
Win or lose this election, we do not lose. Win or lose this election we have reaffirmed what it is to be a living force in American democracy, an American, to be the civil means of hope for mankind, not its bully, not its conceited overlord, not its greedy king.
This post of mine is nothing, one drop in an ocean of tears cried for liberty. My life is nothing, one drop of blood in the history of humanity. But it counts. This sounds ridiculous, getting a little emotional here, I know. But it counts.
Peace & God Bless America.

I Didn’t Vote For Obama by kentuckyscott
>
I’m a middle-class white guy living in Jacksonville, Florida. I’ve got a wife
and two kids. Because the kids had no school today, I took a vacation day from
work, and took the kids downtown to vote early. Fifty-nine minutes later, two
smiling children and I proudly sported ‘I Voted’ stickers.
But I didn’t vote for Obama.
I voted for my ancestors, who believed in the promise of this country and came
with nothing as immigrants.
I voted for my parents, who taught in the public schools for decades.
I voted for Steve, an acquaintance of mine from Kentucky. (Killed by an IED
two years ago in Iraq).
I voted for Shawn, another who’s been to Iraq twice, and Afghanistan once, and
who’ll be going back to Afghanistan again soon — and whose family earned eleven
bucks a month too much to qualify for food stamps when the war started.
I voted for April, the only African-American girl in my high school — it was
years before it occurred to me how different her experience of our school must
have been.
I voted for my college friends who are Christian, Jewish, Mormon, and yes –
Muslim.
I voted for my grandfathers, who worked hard in factories and died too young.
I voted for the plumber who worked on my house, because I want him to get a
REAL tax break! .
I voted for four little angels from Birmingham.
I voted for a bunch of dead white men who, although personally flawed, were
willing to pledge their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor, and used a time of
great crisis to expand freedom rather than suspend it.
I voted for all those people and more, and I voted for all of you, too. But
mostly, I voted selfishly. I vote for two little kids, one who has ballet in an
hour, and one who has baseball practice at the same time. I voted for a world
where they can be confident that their government will represent the best that
is in this country, and that will in turn demand the best of them. I voted for a
government that will be respected in the world. I voted for an economy that will
reward work above guile. I voted for everything I believe in.
Sure, I filled in the circle next to the name Obama, but it wasn’t him I was
voting for — it was every single one of us, and those I love most of all.!
Who else is there to vote for?

And Obama LOOKS really good. That’s the problem. Once he opens his mouth and the leftist illuminati rhetoric starts flowing, the looks are ruined.

I am so sick and tired of listening to McCain and Palin! You hear the same old regurgitated lines from both of them; “reformer”, “maverick”, “tested” and joe the freakin’ plumber—please someone set my hair on fire and put it out with a sledge hammer! Enough. Senator, let’s look at the results of the so called “testing”. Don’t get me wrong, as a fellow veteran, I appreciate what you did for your country. But let’s face it—you were CAPTURED—i.e., you failed in your mission. You failed the marriage test by having and affair on your severely injured wife with the rich wife you now have; you failed to watch out for the American middle-class, as a result there are over 750,000 lost jobs (and climbing) to-date and over 81,000 foreclosures per month nation wide; you failed to react w/authority and clarity on the crumbling economy; you failed to stick to your guns about earmarks on the bailout; you failed on your pledge to run an honorable campaign; and you, Senator McCain failed to choose a viable candidate for VP—Sara Palin. And now we are to believe in your so-called testing abilities to handle the next crisis? I don’t think so. Give me someone intelligent, exercises good judgment, and has steel in his spine– Barack Obama and Joe Biden.
If you are running on your “testing” and your “record”—you are going to lose…
I don’t know where to start on you VP candidate’s failures– I will leave that for the next blog.

If anything shady happens like this before election. I will know for sure that these are “wag the dog” tactics. It would stink of George Bush and a desperate McCain. Guess what Im’ not giving up more relatives so McCain can continue the blood shed. It’s Not going to work this time. its time for diplomacy. I don’t care what anyone on this post thinks about it. 10 Billion a month while people in the USA are committing suicide because they are going broke. THINK AGAIN.

Ya think the Repubs are on the defensive??? Do they ever do anything but criticize Obama??? They never say anything about what their plan is…talk about not knowing who the candidates are….McCain and Palin are the ones who promised not to run a dirty campaign…liars, losers and very desperate. Obama/Biden ’08

Posted by: VITAL2U | October 30, 2008, 5:11 pm 5:11 pm

I believe Bin Laden is already dead. The Repubs are keeping him “alive” because it works for them. Besides, the war enriches the Bush-McCain gang. Remember, the Iraq contracts were not tendered. If McBush cared for the people, then their policies would have been pro-USA instead of pro-self-interest and lobby groups. Even now McCain wants to GIVE $300B of middle class tax-payers money to the Banks. He wants to buy back house mortgages at prices of the peak prices. How many of you would love for McCain to buy your house at the peak price of yesterday, today? Remember, the rich get tax write-offs, do you the middle class wage earner?

Posted by: arvin | October 30, 2008, 5:18 pm 5:18 pm

McCain is just making a silly seen of himself. He says “he knows how to win wars”, “I know how to capture Bin Laden” and blah blah blah. I do not believe he knows how to win wars, the war he was in Veitnam was not won by the US and he was a POW for five years of it. I am not making late of his POW status, but, that is a fact. He was not drawing up war plans in either Veitnam, the first iraq war or even the new Iraq war. He is not a past general, so he would not have attended War College. I feel he deserves honor because he was a POW, but, that does not mean he is a great military mind or that he deserves the White House. Also, if he knows how to find Bin Laden, why not tell Pres. Bush? Isn’t that valuable information? Isn’t he costing American lives by keeping this information? McCain was at one a real maverick and real candidate…now he is a shell of the man he once was.

Here is an article from debka.com, an Israeli publication, which sheds light on what Sen. Biden was talking about when he said that the world would test Sen. Obama:
US intelligence: Iran will be able to build first nuclear bomb by February 2009
DEBKAfile Exclusive Report
October 26, 2008, 11:29 AM (GMT+02:00)
US intelligence’s amended estimate, that Iran will be ready to build its first bomb just one month after the next US president is sworn in, is disclosed by DEBKAfile’s Washington sources as having been relayed as a guideline to the Middle East teams of both presidential candidates, Senators John McCain and Barack Obama.
The information prompted the assertion by Democratic vice presidential nominee Joseph Biden in Seattle Sunday, Oct. 19: “It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy.”
McCain retorted Tuesday, Oct. 21: “America does not need a president that needs to be tested. I’ve been tested. I was aboard the Enterprise off the coast of Cuba. I’ve been there.”)
DEBKAfile’s military sources cite the new US timeline: By late January, 2009, Iran will have accumulated enough low-grade enriched uranium (up to 5%) for its “break-out” to weapons grade (90%) material within a short time. For this, the Iranians have achieved the necessary technology. In February, they can move on to start building their first nuclear bomb.
US intelligence believes Tehran has the personnel, plans and diagrams for a bomb and has been running experiments to this end for the past two years. The UN International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna last week asked Tehran to clarify recent complex experiments they conducted in detonating nuclear materials for a weapon, but received no answer.
The same US evaluation adds that the Iranian leadership is holding off its go-ahead to start building the bomb until the last minute so as to ward off international pressure to stop at the red line.
This development together with the galloping global economic crisis will force the incoming US president to go straight into decision-making without pause on Day One in the Oval Office. He will have to determine which urgent measures can serve best for keeping a nuclear bomb out of the Islamic republic’s hands – diplomatic or military – and how to proceed if those measures fail.
His knowledge of the challenge colored Sen. Biden’s additional words in Seattle: “Remember I said it standing here if you don’t remember anything else I said. Watch, we’re gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy.”
Israel’s political and military leaders also face a tough dilemma that can no longer be put off of whether to strike Iran’s nuclear installations militarily in the next three months between US presidencies before the last window closes, or take a chance on coordination with the next president.
Waiting for the “international community” to do the job of stopping Iran, as urged by governments headed by Ariel Sharon and Ehud Olmert – and strongly advocated Tzipi Livni, foreign minister and would-be prime minister – has been a washout. Iran stands defiantly on the threshold of a nuclear weapon.

oBAMA, the great uniter, the cool, calm, collected one seems to have booted some reporters off his plane…hmmm…this is the great negotiator? YOU GUYS ARE FOOLED BECAUSE OBAMA IS A MY WAY OR THE HIGHWAY TYPE OF GUY. Look at his angry facial expressions. He had no father to raise him. He fell into drugs and extremism as a young youth. Ability to lead? He was called immature by other nation’s leaders. When the next Cuban Missile Crisis comes, I want people who know the ropes and negotiate in a strong, but non=egotistical fashion. Those that put America’s interests first because THEY HAVE ALWAYS LOVED AMERICA, AND NEVER THOUGHT AMERICA NEEDED TO PUNISHED. HOW DO YOU LEAD A COUNTRY YOU HAVE FOUGHT AGAINST YOUR WHOLE LIFE?

Do you really want your sons and daughters, husbands, wives, etc. fighting in the Middle East for another 5 or 10 years? We have the strongest and best military forces in the world. There is no way in he* * it should take years to go over and kill a couple of terrorists. We need to protect the homeland and rebuild this country. Don’t believe the conservative’s scare tactics, and don’t let anyone try to tell you “you take your freedom for granted.” That is crap.

I just saw this comment elsewhere:
The LA Times seems to think it’s not in the public interest what went on at the Jew bashing party Barack Obama attended at his friend Rashid Khalidi’s house.
I was thinking…if the LA Times doesn’t want Americans to know, maybe Professor Khalidi will let us know.
He does not take calls from journalists…only private citizens…

McCain is personal friends with Farrakhan. He doesn’t like that to be public.
Sarah Palin is trying her best to keep her pastor problem under wraps as well. She sat in the pews for 30 years listening to her pastor spew his anti-jew venom. the video is on you tube.

As a Republican, I don’t like france. I never say “french” fries; I call them FREEDOM fries. Sarkozy recently criticized Obama and likes McCain. If the French are going for McCain, then I’m voting for Obama because he’s a true American and not some wannabee European like McCain and Palin. Palin doesn’t shop at Walmart like me.. she gets all of her clothes from Paris, FRANCE and spends thousands of dollars on just one outfit. Wow.. she is pretentious.

Sarah Palin keeps talking about all these special needs programs for kids she wants to create. She is a socialist for wanting to make more gov’t programs. Why should my tax dollars pay for her down syndrome baby? It’s not my fault she didn’t use birth control. It is irresponsible of old ladies to have babies.

We, Chinese Americans are voting for Barack Hussein Obama II. He is the true American. McCain is a fake war vet.
He is a 27+ years of Do-Nothing-Republican.
