McCain to Letterman: ‘I Screwed Up’
ABC News’ Jan Simmonds reports: "I screwed up," Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., told David Letterman this afternoon as he taped an appearance on Letterman’s CBS program, "The Late Show," explaining his cancellation a few weeks ago. McCain originally was scheduled to appear on Letterman’s late night talk show on Sept. 24, but canceled after he announced the suspension of his campaign to focus on the nation’s troubled economy.
At the time, McCain said he needed to return to Washington to help bring forth legislation to address the Wall Street meltdown. But that evening, McCain ended up staying in New York for several more hours including agreeing to an interview with CBS News’ Katie Couric.
After the presidential candidate sat down at the taping, Letterman jokingly asked, "Can you stay?" McCain replied that he had asked his son, who is serving overseas, if he could send over his helmet and flap jacket, but it "didn’t arrive on time." So, what exactly happened?" asked Letterman, who has made McCain’s cancellation a running joke on his program since it occurred. "I screwed up," McCain said. "Look at all the conversation I gave you."
Letterman, not satisfied, pressed the issue further, saying when McCain canceled, he told him he had to go right back to Washington, "but then you didn’t go right back to Washington." Again McCain implored, "I screwed up. It’s only Dave Letterman, there is only a few million people who will be watching,"McCain joked, referring to the advice he was given from his advisers.
Several other subjects were covered over the three-segment interview scheduled to air Thursday evening, including:
Joe the Plumber, Governor Sarah Palin, R-Alaska., and her comments about Barack Obama "palling with terrorists."
On Joe the Plumber, McCain took the opportunity to apologize for the media circus he had a hand in causing since last night’s debate. "Joe, if you’re watching, I’m sorry," said McCain. "From what I read he is taking it pretty well," he later added.
Discussing his choice of Palin as his running mate, the Arizona senator said she was "absolutely" his first choice for vice president. He went on to say that he "didn’t know her well at all" at the time he decided on her, but added he was familiar with her reputation as a reformer. When Letterman asked if Palin was ready to become president if events forced that to occur, McCain emphatically answered, "yes."
The comedian host also mentioned that the selection has been criticized and wondered if McCain had been approached by staffers or members of his party to drop Palin from the ticket. Again, McCain answered emphatic, saying "no."
When Letterman jokingly asked whether Palin really did make the comments that Obama had "palled around with terrorists," McCain initially said "no" (she didn’t say Obama palled around with terrorists), but quickly caught himself and corrected his statement in midsentence, saying "yes," making note of Obama’s relationship with William Ayers.
Letterman followed up this question asking if McCain was friends with G. Gordon Liddy, apparently hinting that one of the masterminds of the Watergate break-in could also be described as a terrorist. Asking whether he attended a fundraiser at his house, McCain said, "I’ve met him," but laughter ensued, followed by "I object, your honor," screamed off-camera from Paul Shaffer, Letterman’s band leader. The show then went to commercial break after which the subject was dropped.
After weeks of making McCain the butt of jokes for not appearing on his program, the two seemed to get along quite well. When the interview ended and Letterman thanked McCain, the senator seemed anxious to leave, half-standing up before sitting down again. The cameras then went to commercial.
McCain then left the studio, ahead of the Alfred E. Smith dinner he is scheduled to attend tonight along with Senator Barack Obama, being held in New York City.

I’m glad to see Sen. McCain was so big and playoff with Mr. Letterman, instead of small and petty like Mr. Letterman and Sen. Obama.
Sen. McCain was right. There was a crisis, and United States Senators belonged in Washington. He went back, Sen. Obama phoned it in. The crisis was deep, the campaign was insignificant. Sen. Obama stayed on the campaign trail. Sen. Obama thought there was nothing to do, as if its passage was a foregone conclusion. Sen. McCain was right, there was no consensus.
Sen. Obama did what Sen. Obama does. He doesn’t lead, he leans against the wall with his coctail and hot date, and when the dust settles, he criticizes the people that worked to solve the problem and calls them “erratic.”

Dear Clintonite for McCain — Mr. McCain has indeed been erratic, with a change in position every two days? flip-flop! Obama has been a marvel of consistency on this issue compared to Senator McCain.
Your sense of reality seems to differ from most observers.
I was definitely present here during the Clinton era. The USA had a $5 trillion surplus. And yes my taxes were considerably higher. I also made nearly double the money I do today. The taxes were not even relevant.

A republican plant who is a family member of the criminal Charles Keating, who McCain choose to defend even though Keating’s criminal acts caused hundreds of thousands of Americans to lose their life savings in the S&L crisis in the ’80s. A republican plant who is deliquent in paying back taxes. A republican plant who is illegally running a plumbing business without the proper license.

The real reason Letterman doesn’t like Sarah Palin is because her daughter is getting married as a result of her pregnancy.
Letterman, in stark contrast, refused to marry the mother of his son when he got her pregnant.
The morals and ethics of the Palins are so far superior to those of Letterman that the only way he can stand it is to mock them – in a pathetic effort to try and make himself feel better about his own lack of basic morality.

Sen. Obama must have gotten a personality transplant recently, but he isn’t the honorable person he is making himself out to be during the campaign. I was looking forward to voting for him Nov. 4, because he was trashing the Clinton years for the national disaster that it was. I thought he was going to bring change; instead, he is promising more of the same of the last two years. I can afford to listen to his Axelrodian tactics for 2 more weeks; we can’t afford four more years of the disastrous policies of the last Democratic Congress.

the Democratic party has become the party of the party of billionaire bankers and wellfare abusers. us hard-working, tax-paying, middle-class Americans did everything right. We lived within our means, bought houses we could afford, took out mortgages we can repay, and saved for our retirement. Chairmen Chris Dodd, Mr. Fannie and Freddie kickbacks, and Barney Frank, in bed with Fannie and Freddie, refused to take action on the Fannie and Freddie’s dangerous mortgages that John McCain warned us on. Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton’s Community Reinvestment Act forced bankers to lend money to people who could never pay them bank, a cost of doing business that forced banks to raise interest rates on us, paying customers, to pay for. Candidate Obama, who is #2 on the got-my-tip-jar-stuffed-silly-by-Fannie-and-Freddie list, taught ACORN how to bully banks into making mortgages to people who could never pay them back. middle-class, hard-working, tax-paying Americans like myself that did everything right is not getting hosed by getting laid off, losing our homes, and losing our retirements.

Yes, G.W. was a decent president. Not the best, but considering what this man had to deal with at this time in history he did more than Clinton who did nothing but appease our enemies, just like Saddam Hussein Obama will. History will prove this out, unless the Alinsky neophytes continue to rewrite history. He has had to face more crisis as a President than any other in recent history. Do I agree with all of his policies? Absolutely not. Do I think he has done what he felt was right, not for himself, but for the country? Yes. We had group of terrorists FLY PLANES INTO OUR BUILDINGS on OUR SOIL and we haven’t had a terrorist attack since. He inherited a steaming pile from the Clintons and had to clean up the mess. You don’t clean up that kind of mess without getting a little on yourself as well.
At least Mao had enough sense to allow free-markets in Chinese cities to fill the Communist coffers in China when that country turned red. He did it because Socialist economic policies DO NOT WORK.

DeMcCrat: As Barney Frank himself pointed out last sunday on TV, the Democratic congress passed legislation to regulate Frannie and Freddie within 5 months of taking office after the Republicans let it ride for 6 years!
Freddie and frannie hold mostly solid mortgages and will not need much of the bailout package to stablize them, unlike all the banks that sold mortgages to all those Republicans that bought the McMansions that they knew they couldn’t afford to pay for.

WHAT A SHOCKER!
In the final debate of October 15, 2008, Barack Obama talked more like Republicans George Bush and Herbert Hoover. Barack Obama related to growing the federal government, raising taxes and trade restrictions. Barack Obama says he is not repeating the last eight years of the Bush administration, but talks like President Bush. If Barack Obama becomes president, he says he will repeat the acts of Herbert Hoover (raising taxes and trade restrictions) that led America into the Great Depression. This is Barack Obama’s agenda.
John McCain and Sarah Palin have a much better understanding of how America can survive the financial crisis. John McCain and Sarah Palin do not talk like a George Bush and a Herbert Hoover.
You had better do some real thinking before you pull that lever.

Why does everyone need to be suck pricks in here, 2 months ago there was real conversation, but now it’s just nasty name calling and whining, and it’s progressively gotten worst, not even fun to read anymore because no one has real opinions, just nasty attitudes. Stop being little kids, all anyone can do is go vote, and guess what, whoever wins we’re stuck with for at least 4 years, so freaking grow up, I’m out.

Had lunch today with my uncle who told me that we need to kiss business good bye in the United States if Obama is elected. Small companies will be dead under Obama’s tax plan. And when they die, so do the wages of their employees. But that is all right. Obama promises to share the wealth. Welfare? The dole – as they call it in England? I don’t mind paying my fair share of taxes but there is no way I want to have my hard work to get a higher salary destroyed by having our government stealing it through higher taxes so that someone who has refused to go to school or find a job can share my bounty. If you want Obama, then YOU promise to give 50% of what you earn back to the gov’t so that those who refuse to take care of themselves can enjoy “quality of life.” There will be no incentive to build up a business or seek education that will get you a job paying over $100 because the taxes will be so high it won’t be worth it. Let’s all go on welfare. What has happened to personal responsibility in America?

Barack Obama you are too late to help the children in Pennsylvania
CHIP has expanded and more children are eligible. Don’t assume that you earn too much to qualify.
All uninsured children and teens not eligible for Medical Assistance have access to health insurance. It doesn’t matter how much money your family makes. Many will get it free. To Your children may be enrolled in Medical Assistance if your income is below the CHIP guidelines.

Barack Obama does not know what is happening in his own state and around the country. Barack Obama is out of touch with the USA. For certain he can not really hope to administer foreign policy.

Letterman is just ignorant – He lacks class – and like all the Hollywood left hates all Republicans -
I can remember when late night host were class acts Carson – Steve Alan – they all had their personal views but they smart enough to know that pushing a personal agenda was not why people tuned in.
Leno is most likely the last class act to host late night. The net works all have demonstrated left leaning bias on their news and now on their talk shows – that is why I will not watch channel 2 or 4 – CNN – MSNBC – but most of all they so tranparent and boring.

McCain and Liddy have been friends for years and McCain has stated “I’m proud of you, I’m proud of your family.” Liddy has contributed to McCain’s campaign and has held fund raisers at his home for McCain.
E. Howard Hunt, Gordon Liddy masterminded the first break-in of the Democratic National Committee headquarters in the Watergate building in 1972.
The subsequent cover-up of the Watergate scandal led to Nixon’s resignation in 1974; Liddy served four and a half years in prison for his role in the burglary.
Additionally, when Liddy spoke about listening to Hitler on the radio, he stated that it “made me feel a strength inside I had never known before. Hitler’s sheer animal confidence and power of will [entranced me]. He sent an electric current through my body.”

You don’t have to earn $250,000 to be screwed by Obama’s plan. Please educate yourself.
1.) Capital Gains tax is going up, so if you save for retirement, child’s college or a house…you pay more.
2.) Selling your house: you will now be taxed
3.) Higher company taxes means YOU pay more. Companies must do one of two things when taxes go up. Pass it onto the CONSUMER or lay off their employees (so no jobs and people go on unemployment..which YOU pay into.)
4.) Obama has GUARANTEED that their will be Universal Health Insurance by the end of his first term. (National Education Assoc. Magazine: SEpt issue) WE can’t even pay for Medicaid and Medicare and we are going to add another insurance program??
Taxes NEVER only go up for one group…it gets passed to us all. We are ALL screwed when Obama gets in.

Barack Obama is no friend of Pennsylvania. He said we small-town Pennsylvania were “bitter” and “clinging to our guns and religions” and we were “clinging” to our “bigotry.” He said in debate #2 that the first computer was invented by “a bunch of government scientists.” yeah right, like Al Gore invented the internet! everyone knows that the ENIAC was invented by a bunch of University of PENNSYLVANIA scientists. Barack Obama, he spins history to clain all the credit he can for big government, and he knows next to nothing about common-sense American history. He says he’s one of us because his mother was on welfare-abuse at one point “I was going to a fancy prep school, and my mother was on food stamps while she was getting her Ph.D.” ( http://www.time.com/time/printout/0,8816,1546362,00.html ). My family comes from a long line of Democrats, so I’m for welfare, but I’m not for welfare abuse. We’re pro-abortion, but we’re not pro-infanticide like Sen. Obama is. We’re pro tax-and-spend, but we’re not “according to each what he needs, from each what he can” (Communist Manifesto, Karl Marx) income redistribution like Sen. Obama is. and we’re not elitists, like Sen. Obama is. I don’t even think he likes us. I think he thinks he’s better than we are. I think he resents that we have one ballot just like he does. I think he thinks we’re screwing up his country, when in fact it is our country.

Concerned American writes: “Talk about revisionist history! Explain how you take a balanced budget and surplus and manage to raise the deficit by $133 billion your first year in office?”
Revisionist history? Really? Do you know what happened to that surplus? We had to rearm ourselves to face the enemy that Billary ignored for 8 years.
HISTORY:
1993 World Trade Center bombing, which killed six and injured 1,000
1995 bombing in Saudi Arabia, which killed five U.S. military personnel
1996 Khobar Towers bombing in Saudi Arabia, which killed 19
1998 bombing of U.S. embassies in Africa, which killed 224 and injured 5,000
2000 bombing of the USS Cole, which killed 17 and injured 39 U.S. sailors
I served in the armed forces during the “don’t ask, don’t tell” years. I saw many good men and women decide to leave their careers because the military wasn’t what they remembered it to be when they joined. Morale was in the toilet, buddy.
I really shouldn’t bother. You can’t argue with liberals. Instead of applying logic and using facts, they react with emotion and use smoke and mirrors to gloss over the truth, just as the Messiah has done during his entire campaign.
I think, therefore I am conservative.

I’ll say it again: I love how Republicans tell celebrities and other folks to shut up when they disagree with their politics. Really, Letterman is a scumbag, huhn? Oh, and so is Christopher Buckley, right? Buckley just resigned from the National Review because he received tons of hate mail for praising Barack Obama. That is why you neocons are losing–because you don’t want to be questioned, challenged, or asked tough questions about the folks you admire. Letterman asked a valid question of McCain about G. Gordon Liddy: if McCain is out there condemning Obama for knowing Ayres, then why is McCain fine with being buddy buddy with criminal Liddy, appearing on Liddy’s radio show and calling him a pal…within the past year?

Obama followers have repetitively said that Obama’s birth certification has been checked by FactCheck. Yes, a few people from FactCheck told us that Obama’s birth certification (not the birth certificate) is valid. FactCheck is funded by the Annenberg Foundation, where Barack Obama was the founding chair of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge for years. The Chicago Annenberg Challenge is currently being investigated because of withholding of documents on the catastrophic failure of the projects of public funds under Obama’s leadership and because of the information relating to the terrorist Bill Ayers.

Sixty percent of the benefits from his tax cuts go to the wealthiest 10% of Americans—and that’s not the kind of tax relief that Americans need. … Gov. Bush wants to spend the entire surplus on tax cuts. I don’t believe the wealthiest 10% of Americans should get 60% of the tax breaks. I think the lowest 10% should get the breaks
John McCain
“I feel very strongly that we ought to have middle-income and lower-income tax cuts, and we’ll be getting into it, I’m sure, later on in this program. Mine are basically comparable to Gov. Bush’s, in some cases far better. But I’m not sure we need to give two-thirds of that tax cut, of that money, to the wealthiest 10% of America.”
John McCain
I don’t think Bill Gates needs a tax cut. I think you and your parents do.”

“I cannot in good conscience support a tax cut in which so many of the benefits go to the most fortunate among us at the expense of middle-class Americans who most need tax relief.”

Joe Wurzelbacher didn’t give a speech or make a commercial. He asked a question. He stood on a rope line, and Obama picked him to ask it. The Tanning-Bed Media seems to feel that they have a duty to expose every last part of Wurzelbacher’s life, but that asking Obama to explain his political partnerships with Tony Rezko and William Ayers, and his long friendship and financial support of rabid demagogues Jeremiah Wright and Michael Pfleger, are not just out of bounds but downright racist.
So what have we learned from this episode?
1. Thou shalt not offend The One by asking him a question. Of any kind.
2. Anyone who questions The One will have to undergo a public pillorying of a kind unseen since the Red Scare, or perhaps the Inquisition.
3. The Tanning-Bed Media will happily participate in any inquisition, as long as it keeps them from investigating irrelevant issues like Obama’s ties to the Chicago Machine, William Ayers, ACORN, or his record on protecting infanticide.
Don’t ask questions. Don’t check the records of people running for political office, but do check the records of those who dare violate Rule #1. No dissent will be tolerated. Our political and media masters have spoken.

From The National Coalition on Health Care:
Healthcare spending is 4.3 times the amount spent on national defense. Total spending was $2.3 TRILLION in 2007. There is a healthcare spending projecting of $4.2 trillion by 2016. Retiring elderly couples will need $200,000 in savings just to pay for the most basic medical coverage. Many experts believe that this figure is conservative and that $300,000 may be a more realistic number. This cost just reflects a growing elderly segment of the population.
From Independent Voters:
The national healthcare program proposed by Barack Obama has inaccuracy in the numbers. We can predict that the national healthcare program will need government funding in huge dollar amounts because there is no control over the true rising costs of doctors, hospitals and pharmaceutical companies.
No one will dictate to the pharmaceutical companies about price because their research costs are astronomical. The American Medical Association will not bow to bullying by any government agency. The hospitals will reduce beds to cover the need to reduce costs of administration. Many hospitals have failed and many are still failing because of costs due to government regulations.
Barack Obama’s national healthcare program is more of a fantasy than a reality. The insurance industry has many failings during this financial crisis and any attempt to reduce premium costs will create a need for subsidies from the federal government. Moreover, the national healthcare program will eventually become mandatory for everyone.

Barack Obama says his national healthcare program will use cheaper imported drugs.
From the FDA:
Although these drugs have important benefits for many patients, they have serious known risks and so are available in the U.S. only under specially created safety controls. These safety controls are bypassed when these drugs are purchased from foreign sources, placing patients who use these imported drugs at higher risk. Therefore, because of this higher risk to patients, FDA took action to further curtail the products’ availability from foreign sources. The drugs purchased from foreign sources are generally not FDA-approved
There are at least three phases to approve a drug. That requires as much as six years creating protocols with the FDA. So much for foreign drugs.
Barack Obama says his national healthcare program will use cheaper generic drugs. Surprise! Pharmacies already ask if you would like to have the generic drug. Where does this leave Barack Obama? No Change that he talks about.

– 20 million….That sounds like a Barack Obama misconception –
, that would be the Wall Street Journal in their analysis.. of an estimated 20 million currently uninsured, Obamas plan would wind up covering an estimated 47%, compared to McCains 7% at peak. And McCains plan would actually cause more Americans to lose coverage.

Yup, same drugs, same mfg., cheaper in Canada and other countries than in the US, due to monopolization of the market here.

A read for Milton Freedman;
The Democrats and Obama are
responsible for this economic mess.
Read this article and learn:
Frank’s fingerprints are all over the financial fiasco
By Jeff Jacoby
Globe Columnist / September 28, 2008
Email| Print| Single Page| Yahoo! Buzz| ShareThisText size – + ‘THE PRIVATE SECTOR got us into this mess. The government has to get us out of it.”
That’s Barney Frank’s story, and he’s sticking to it. As the Massachusetts Democrat has explained it in recent days, the current financial crisis is the spawn of the free market run amok, with the political class guilty only of failing to rein the capitalists in. The Wall Street meltdown was caused by “bad decisions that were made by people in the private sector,” Frank said; the country is in dire straits today “thanks to a conservative philosophy that says the market knows best.” And that philosophy goes “back to Ronald Reagan, when at his inauguration he said, ‘Government is not the answer to our problems; government is the problem.’ ”
In fact, that isn’t what Reagan said. His actual words were: “In this present crisis, government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem.” Were he president today, he would be saying much the same thing.
Because while the mortgage crisis convulsing Wall Street has its share of private-sector culprits — many of whom have been learning lately just how pitiless the private sector’s discipline can be — they weren’t the ones who “got us into this mess.” Barney Frank’s talking points notwithstanding, mortgage lenders didn’t wake up one fine day deciding to junk long-held standards of creditworthiness in order to make ill-advised loans to unqualified borrowers. It would be closer to the truth to say they woke up to find the government twisting their arms and demanding that they do so – or else.
The roots of this crisis go back to the Carter administration. That was when government officials, egged on by left-wing activists, began accusing mortgage lenders of racism and “redlining” because urban blacks were being denied mortgages at a higher rate than suburban whites.
The pressure to make more loans to minorities (read: to borrowers with weak credit histories) became relentless. Congress passed the Community Reinvestment Act, empowering regulators to punish banks that failed to “meet the credit needs” of “low-income, minority, and distressed neighborhoods.” Lenders responded by loosening their underwriting standards and making increasingly shoddy loans. The two government-chartered mortgage finance firms, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, encouraged this “subprime” lending by authorizing ever more “flexible” criteria by which high-risk borrowers could be qualified for home loans, and then buying up the questionable mortgages that ensued.
All this was justified as a means of increasing homeownership among minorities and the poor. Affirmative-action policies trumped sound business practices. A manual issued by the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston advised mortgage lenders to disregard financial common sense. “Lack of credit history should not be seen as a negative factor,” the Fed’s guidelines instructed. Lenders were directed to accept welfare payments and unemployment benefits as “valid income sources” to qualify for a mortgage. Failure to comply could mean a lawsuit.
As long as housing prices kept rising, the illusion that all this was good public policy could be sustained. But it didn’t take a financial whiz to recognize that a day of reckoning would come. “What does it mean when Boston banks start making many more loans to minorities?” I asked in this space in 1995. “Most likely, that they are knowingly approving risky loans in order to get the feds and the activists off their backs . . . When the coming wave of foreclosures rolls through the inner city, which of today’s self-congratulating bankers, politicians, and regulators plans to take the credit?”
Frank doesn’t. But his fingerprints are all over this fiasco. Time and time again, Frank insisted that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were in good shape. Five years ago, for example, when the Bush administration proposed much tighter regulation of the two companies, Frank was adamant that “these two entities, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, are not facing any kind of financial crisis.” When the White House warned of “systemic risk for our financial system” unless the mortgage giants were curbed, Frank complained that the administration was more concerned about financial safety than about housing.
Now that the bubble has burst and the “systemic risk” is apparent to all, Frank blithely declares: “The private sector got us into this mess.” Well, give the congressman points for gall. Wall Street and private lenders have plenty to answer for, but it was Washington and the political class that derailed this train. If Frank is looking for a culprit to blame, he can find one suspect in the nearest mirror.

Don’t seem to be working!!
“In 2007, employer health insurance premiums increased by 6.1 percent – two times the rate of inflation. The annual premium for an employer health plan covering a family of four averaged nearly $12,100. The annual premium for single coverage averaged over $4,400.2
Experts agree that our health care system is riddled with inefficiencies, excessive administrative expenses, inflated prices, poor management, and inappropriate care, waste and fraud. These problems significantly increase the cost of medical care and health insurance for employers and workers and affect the security of families.”

And for those of you who obviously don’t know it, we do not have a free market economy in the US. We never have had one. There has ALWAYS been governmtent intervention in our economy.

A second lien has been filed in the courthouse against Wurzelbacher for $1,261 that he apparently owes St. Charles Mercy Hospital. That lien was filed in March 2007. Now it comes out that poor old Joe could in no way buy a business worth $250.000. His boss, who’s business he said he wanted to buy, is worth less than $100,000. Additionally, now it is revealed that good ol’ Joe is a prominent figure on a local right-wing radio station where he regularly referred to Sen. Obama as Sammy Davis Jr. In other words, Joe is just a shill for the GOP attack machine.

Concerned American: That is the point and it is time to SHRINK FEDERAL GOVERNMENT and SPENDING. We keep feeding the fire and it has grown out of contol.
————————
I agree somewhat.
However, John McCain’s proposals will substantially increase the national debt, not lower it.
He has yet to say how HE will pay for his government without raising taxes.
All independent sources show he cannot.
They also show the difference in cost between Obama’s plan and McCain’s are marginal. (Because Obama will increase revenue where McCain will not)
And, McCain’s claim of “balancing the budget in four years” is an impossibility. A complete lie.
If the candidates would get a clue and realize we could reduce expenditures easily by cutting military spending
(by far, the biggest component of our debt), we could get out of this mess.
At least Obama wants to save us $10-$20 BILLION/month by ending a rediculous war. And there is no “victory” in Iraq. There is no one to surrender. And there is no way to know when a government will be ready to support itself.
THEY want us gone. And they are a democracy now right? Do we think we should occupy a democratic nation that doesn’t want us there? Our international policy states otherwise.
McCain has no intention of ever ending the war. And he has stated he will not cut any funding for the military. Not any part of it. STUPID!
We are paying to haul SAND from Kuait to Iraq. That’s right, hauling SAND from a desert to a desert. That makes sense right? Contractors are exploiting the US, stealing billions, and no one is stopping them.
We pay for an enormous nuclear arsenal that is unecessary. We could reduce it by a third and still maintain deturrance capability and still destroy the planet 10 times over. Is that not enough?
The threats to this nation are not deturred by escallation of nuclear arms. It took 17 people to bring down the twin towers and all the nukes in the world would not have stopped them.
No way McCain should run this country!
He is stuck in 1980′s America. The Cold War is over. We need to come to the realization we cannot afford to be an imperialist nation.

It doesn’t matter what Joe’s background is..the story is still true.
When you raise taxes on small businesses it will:
1.) prevent them from hiring more people
or
2.)they will raise the cost of their goods or services and pass them along to their customers to pay for their increased taxes.
So in the end everyone suffers. That is the problem with Obama’s plan.

HEMPSTEAD, New York (CNN) — If the presidential election were held today, the latest update of the CNN Electoral College Map estimates Democratic candidate Barack Obama would win enough electoral votes to capture the White House.
CNN’s new Electoral College Map was released Wednesday.
The new map indicates that Sen. Obama would have 277 electoral votes, with Sen. John McCain, the Republican candidate, amassing 174 electoral votes; 87 electoral votes are still up for grabs in several states.
In order to win the presidency, a candidate needs 270 electoral votes.

Obama will not change the corportate tax rates. If a small business owner files as individual, 97.6% of small business owners earn more than $250K in taxable income. In addition, small business will be exempt from the health insurance tax if they are not providing health insurance coverage to their workers, and will receives a 50% matching fund cut if they are.

To all you democrats that don’t think your taxes will be raised all the way down to households earning 40K….YOU ARE WRONG!!! How do you think he is going to pay to make our government bigger? He has already voted to raise taxes on that level of income. The top 10% of earners in the USA already pay about 65% to 70% of the tax burden of this country. He wants to make business owners pay a penalty for running a good business and making more money than Obama thinks you should be earning. I have heard this statement out of Obamas mouth so much it makes me sick, “If you can not afford it we will subsidize you”. DEMOCRATS blink when it is time for a duel. The Iranians waited to see if Reagan was going to win the election before releasing the hostages. Reagan’s comment after winning the election was “The United States does not negotiate with barbarians”. You can not negotiate with a people that believe it is their religious duty to destroy the state of Israel…they are biding their time again to see who is elected. Heaven help us if it is Barack Obama…he will wait just like every other democrat durnig my time until something really aweful happens. He will have to cut significantly more programs than Obama just to catch up to where Obama is without cuts.. in addition, he will simply continue along redistributing money from the middle class to the wealthy, and make low and middle class Americans worse off by causing more to lose health insurance.

But to make the point very clear: The US spends more on education per student than any other country in the world, so why is it not even in the top 5 when compared to the other countries? Just throwing more tax money at a problem does not fix a problem.

Because so many Democrats think that handouts are a God given right. Because Democrats like to keep people on welfare because it makes those people rely on government which is what the Dems want – more and more government control. The DEms don’t want free, stand-on-you-own-two-feet citizens – they want victims who always run whining to the government when things go wrong.

My point is that Education should be privatized. Give private corporations a chance to compete and give our kids a stellar education. Let parents decide on where to send their children to school. It’s working in Europe, and has been tried in other schools across the country. I just don’t think that “public” education in this country works.

And five times in the last month, I have posted pro-McCain comments to CNN articles and have seen those comments omitted from the site. If this is typical of the type of shenanigans going on, I think there is going to be a big surprise on November 4th.
The media is trying to make a virtual reality for us, where Obama is such a shoo-in that Republicans shouldn’t even bother to vote. But that “reality” is a lie–from what I have seen, this view is very far from what is actually going on in this country. I think a lot of people are going to be quite surprised when we Republicans and independents reject that virtual reality and actually show up at the voting booths of America!

Poor Joe, whose real name is Sam J.Wurzelbacher, has a tax lien for nearly $1200.00. A second lien has been filed in the courthouse against Wurzelbacher for $1,261 that he apparently owes St. Charles Mercy Hospital. That lien was filed in March 2007. Now it comes out that poor old Joe could in no way buy a business worth $250.000. His boss’ business he said he wanted to buy, is worth less than $100,000.
Thomas Joseph, the business manager of Local 50 of the United Association of Plumbers, Steamfitters and Service Mechanics, based in Toledo, said Thursday that Mr. Wurzelbacher had never held a plumber’s license, which is required in Toledo and several surrounding municipalities. He also never completed an apprenticeship and does not belong to the plumber’s union, which has endorsed Mr. Obama.
Additionally, now it is revealed that good ol’ Joe is a prominent figure on a local right-wing radio station where he regularly refers to Obama as Sammy Davis Jr. In other words, Joe is just a shill for the McCain crooked talk express attack machine.

– Why should the goverment get to take hard earned money away from people –
To pay for government spending.. you know, things like the armed forces, department of defense, homeland security, parks an recreation, administrative and regulatory agencies, etc..
And to do that, they collect taxes. When you decide to increase spending on, say an unprovoked invasion of another country that costs $10 billion a month, you got to come up with the money to pay for that. Cutting taxes doesn’t do it.
Pretty simple really.

Really ? When do the right smear our brave troops ? When do the right call our top general “General Betray us”? When do the right print up T-shirts using the C-word to describe opponents ? When do the right publish the address and tax records of ordinary citizens who dare speak truth to power? When do the right leak top security documents in order to attack a sitting president ? What are the chances that an abortion clinic bomber would become a lecturer at a top university ? The ultra left Dems at the top despise America…they just see it as a place they make money in. They laugh at all the Middle Americans who believe in country and God…look at the way the liberal press savaged Palin.

Wow we have a serious, serious problem with politics in this country. For most purposes, the USA was the first country to become a republic from being controlled by/part of a monarchy. In time, other monarchies and oligarchies either had reformations or revolutions and transformed into representative forms of government. Does anybody wonder why the American system of presidential elections is significantly less popular than a parliamentary system that usually has multiple parties, a prime minister, and coalitional governments? It is a winner-take-all, fixed-number-of-years two-party system. It engenders bitter partisanship and multiple layers of revisionist history. Consensus-building tends to favor the party in power, which necessarily takes away from the other party in a two-party system. Because the art of ruling involves attaining and maintaining power, anything that diminishes your party’s power is objectionable: e.g. consensus. We focus so much on what divides us that we cannot even begin to talk about a common goal without finger pointing and private concessions (pork).
I’m deeply saddened by the virulent politicing just about every 4 years, and I think both sides of the aisle would agree with me.
Please understand: I don’t hate the USA. I think the constitution and its amendments are important and worth keeping. I think a powerful judicial system and civilian control of the military are vital to democracy. I think free enterprise is important for wealth-building. I also think we can agree on all these things.
We work ourselves into such a frenzy hating the other guy that, roughly, 50% of the population is alienated come November. This is disasterous to our national morale in so many ways and indicates how badly we need to turn a page on our two-party system.

I think there are serious problems confronting our country. I think people who run for public office should be examined by serious minds who ask thoughtful and informative questions. I think Sen Obama is a highly intelligient man with the extreme self confidence of a person who was raised to regard himself as exceptional and who has never had to face the kind of trial by fire that shows a person what they are truly capable of. I also think his campaign is smoke and mirrors. I believe he is a radical whose political agenda will shock the American people.
I think John Mc Cain is an honorable man who has survived the fire. He knows himself and has intense integrity. I think his campaign is dreadful and lacks a central theme. Sarah Palin has views I can not agree with but she has been elected governor of the largest state in the Union. She is not a fool.
This campaign has revealed the viciousness of the American people as evidenced by the posts here and on other political sites. I find Sen. Obama a troubling personality. His ability to move people with empty speeches of platitudes speaks to the kind of government that ends up being undemocratic, if not authoritarian.

Palin and her husband are wolves in disguise. The first dude was a member of a radical group that sought the withdrawal of Alaska from the Union. Palin is in denial concerning her unethical behavior as Governor of Alaska. She used her position to influence the harassment of her ex brother-in-law. She used her position as a VP nominee to fuel racism, hate, fear, and tried to create division of our great nation. I am shocked and dismayed that McCain allowed his leadership to deteriorate so! He is not providing leadership to Palin and the Republican Party. How does he expect to lead our great nation into the future if he cannot show the example of positive leadership to Palin and the Republican Party?

yes, the upper 10% pay more per capita in taxes. But that is because they MAKE MORE. The taxes that the lower/middle class pay is a lesser percentage. But bare in mind, when the lower/middle class pay taxes, it hits them harder. If you don’t make atleast 150k (100k less than the tax bracket Obama talks about) you have NO valid arguement on his tax policy. The way the system is set up keeps the rich, rich…and the poor, poor. The bill that ultimately repealed the [Glass Steagall] Act was introduced in the Senate by Phil Gramm (R-TX) and in the House of Representatives by James Leach (R-IA) in 1999. The bills were passed by a 54-44 vote along party lines with Republican support in the Senate and by a 343-86 vote in the House of Representatives. Nov 4, 1999: After passing both the Senate and House the bill was moved to a conference committee to work out the differences between the Senate and House versions. The final bipartisan bill resolving the differences was passed in the Senate 90-8-1 and in the House: 362-57-15. Without forcing a veto vote, this bipartisan, VETO PROOF legislation was signed into law by President Bill Clinton on November 12, 1999.

This probably won’t be read because this thread is so long, but I’ll pipe in anyways.
Too many Keyboard Commandoes posting on these types of forums, and that’s why I refuse to get any real information from Internet sources. Too partisan, too much crap.
This interview was actually very good. Letterman asked some tough questions and pressed McCain to answer. I thought McCain did a good job, and did his best to answer.
John McCain is obviously a good guy, and at the beginning of the campaigns from both major parties I honestly didn’t know who I’d like to see in the oval office. Unfortunately, it seems McCain has allowed his campaign advisers to run the show to the determent of his chances to win. They’ve applied the same old republican tactics to trick and scare people into voting for him. That’s not John McCain, and it’s unfortunate that he has allowed it to happen.
I am not going to vote for McCain mostly because of his choice of VP. Usually, when a candidate picks a running mate, they make sense. Joe Biden makes sense. Sarah Palin is a stunt. She would make a horrible president and I simply cannot risk the possibility of her becoming president.
Of course, I also think we need some new blood in the White House and Barak Obama represents that quite well.
Too bad you can’t pick and choose the parts of each candidate and create a super candidate =)

The best description of Palin, and how low americans have set their expectations for our elected officals was written by Matt Taibbi in his October 2nd article:
“Sarah Palin is a symbol of everything that is wrong with the modern United States. As a representative of our political system, she’s a new low in reptilian villainy, the ultimate cynical masterwork of puppeteers like Karl Rove. But more than that, she is a horrifying symbol of how little we ask for in return for the total surrender of our political power. Not only is Sarah Palin a fraud, she’s the tawdriest, most half-assed fraud imaginable, 20 floors below the lowest common denominator, a character too dumb even for daytime TV — and this country is going to eat her up, cheering her every step of the way. All because most Americans no longer have the energy to do anything but lie back and allow ourselves to be jacked off by the calculating thieves who run this grasping consumer paradise we call a nation.”

-95% based on IRS data.. which only counts people who pay taxes.-
Obama’s 95% number includes those who don’t pay taxes. Look up a fact checker web site, they all say this number is seriously misleading.

Well, if some of you are going to argue polls, here are some more:
The CBS-NYT poll released this week shows a 14-point lead for Obama, we shouldn’t actually regard this as all that shocking a result. There are now no fewer than seven current national polls that show Obama with a double-digit advantage: Newsweek (+11), ABC/Post (+10), Democracy Corps (+10), Research 2000 (+10), Battleground (+13), Gallup (+10 using their Likely Voter II model) and now this CBS News.
Real Clear Politics has a fairly conservative poll, as they use the average of all these individual polls, and for the first time, Barack Obama has gone over 50% in the RCP National Average, 50.2% to 42 for McCain. McCain’s approval rating is at a low point, +7.8 and falling, while Obama remains steady at +21.5. The electoral vote, based on subtracting toss up states of Nevada, Missouri, Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia and No. Carolina, now has Obama ahead 313 to 158, counting the toss up states as they stand today, Obama overwhelms McCain at 362 to 174, a landslide.
Yes, I’d say the two themes of this article are It seems the polls are accurately reflecting the repulsion civilized people feel toward McCain/Palin’s negative tactics, and responding to Obama’s steady leadership qualities. The more McCain rants incoherently, the more Obama appears stable, cool and calm, just what this country needs after the past 8 years.
It just goes to show, if you don’t have solutions, you’re part of the problem.

Nope, do the math.. based on IRS tax data broken down by number of returns per income group:

US Census data puts it at just over 2%

Obama
most of his close association we know are radical and racists, Ayers 60′s bomber, Jerimaiah Wright the racist. Rep. Lewis the racist from Georgia who still thinks whites are racist and McCain is george wallace.
What do Obama and Osama bin ladin have in common? They both have close friends that bombed the pentagon, and killed americans. Another commonality the have is their names are the same except for one letter.

Letterman has no class and he is not funny. He is an ungracious host, who lets his ideology come in the way. He just exploited the situation to score cheap brownie points. How come he never asked Obama about his Ayers connection? Or why Rezko was Obama’s personal Santa Claus? But in the end it was McCain’s mistake. He should not have gone on the show.

Letterman is great – that he went after McCain just hurts your ego. Ayers was not an issue when Senator Obama was on his show. And do not be so loose with names connected to Senator Obama – there are plenty of unsavory characters surrounding McCain including the number of lobbyists on his campaign team and Davis who still has ties to Freddie and Fanny.
Posted by: sandy | October 17, 2008, 1:32 am 1:32 am
Oh and I forgot about Timmons. This came out yeterday: William Timmons, the Washington lobbyist who John McCain has named to head his presidential transition team, aided an influence effort on behalf of Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein to ease international sanctions against his regime. The two lobbyists who Timmons worked closely with over a five year period on the lobbying campaign later either pleaded guilty to or were convicted of federal criminal charges that they had acted as unregistered agents of Saddam Hussein’s government.

God help us if we turn our backs on our traditional and capitalists values and choose the path of radical socialism Obama embodys.
Take a lesson from depression era Germany, when a young unknown highly charismatic orator drew masses in stadiums as he promised “change” and a restoration to national greatness. He too, had written a book called (my struggle) in english. Their were some radical concerning points in the book, but he had an ability to gain peoples trust, create hope, and instill confidence that he could fix Germany’s problems.
One could argue that Hilter did “change” Germany, and perhaps in some ways for the better, but at what cost? and at what ultimate loss? He was a messiah figure who in the end drove Germany into the ground.
Should America do a 180, and follow the direction of a “from out of the blue” charismatic massiah figure who promises change which he can’t seem to define.
What does your heart tell you?

This is a scary time. The economy will straighten itself out, it always does. But what I want to say is we all know radical groups (Osama, etc) are drooling to see Senator Obama win, and that scares me. I want someone who knows how to keep this country safe, and I just don’t think Senator Obama is that person.

Sandy you have no sense. To think that the USA hating Ayers is not valid is pretty shallow. You are talking about a man who Obama worked with and who had an Obama fund raiser in his home that Obama went to. Obama’s wife, after her husband got the democratic nomination said “She was finally pround to be an American”. That is crap! They dont believe in America at all.

I have never voted Democrat in the Presidential election. That will change this year. I am so ashamed of the Republican party, that I can no longer support this party of HATE AND FEAR MONGERING. Obama’s tax cut to 95% means some (many) people are going to get money back – even though they never paid in! Welcome to the Obama Federal Lottery – brought to you by the hard working Americans who pay about 50% of what they earn to Federal and State taxes!

I’m sad to think of the direction America will be heading in for the next four years under Obama: more abortions, more welfare dependence, fewer jobs, more liberal judges, crazy environmental laws, softer on terror, less free trade, more voter fraud, less oil, more unionism, less freedom, more racism and affirmative action, more political correctness… Society is about more than the $$ in the bank today or tomorrow – it’s about the values you instill in your children that inspire them to work hard and create a better world for the next generation. Obama will undermine the fundamental conservatism and decency of the American people. :(

Amen Rob P.
I appreciate that Barack Obama is quite eloquent, charming and appears comfortable with who he is, but I don’t understand why that makes him qualified and experienced enough to run our country. People who are blindly supporting him because he claims to represent “change” have no idea of what he is capable of. Perhaps in 10 years he might have a record that one could look to in order to evaluate his preparedness for this monumental job. But now? John McCain was not my first choice, but at least I know where he stands and what his record of service to the country is.

When I read these comments I become seriously concerned for the future of this country. I hear people say they would prefer William Ayers to G. Gordon Liddy. But Ayers set bombs all over our country and attacked our government and our police just because he disagreed. People dies because of him. Liddy was involved in an office break-in. I just don’t know how you can compare those things with any kind of moral equivalence. It is shocking.
It just shows that some folks root for their party like it is a sports team and they really don’t take the time to get serious.

McCain has been doing a great deal of that on his campaign, “screwing up”. But, everyone should remember that the Nation thought Gore would best Bush, but Gore lost. Next up was Kerry, who the Nation was sure would best Bush, but Kerry lost too. There are many old people, boomers too, that think McCain is the greatest. Then don’t forget there are the military vets combat or not, who support McCain. The Nation’s youth aren’t too crazy about McCain but they apparently rarely show up to vote. So bottom line, McCain might surprise everyone just like Bush did and win the biggest prize, POTUS.

Underestimating Letterman’s clout just seems to be another in a long line of bad judgments on McCain’s Part. There is an interesting article in Newsweek on 9/27 about just how bad a decision Palin is for VP. Does the shoe fit? I can’t even being to make sense of this answer. Yea, McCain “Screwed up” with this one huh? Wait till he pushes the NUK button and chuckles and says “Hey, I Screwed up” You voted me in, now what did you expect. Almost last in my class at Annapolis…. I’m no rocket scientist you know, I’m just an average Joe”. If this is what the county wants, God save us.
COURIC: Why isn’t it better, Governor Palin, to spend $700 billion helping middle-class families who are struggling with health care, housing, gas and groceries; allow them to spend more and put more money into the economy instead of helping these big financial institutions that played a role in creating this mess?
PALIN: That’s why I say I, like every American I’m speaking with, were ill about this position that we have been put in where it is the taxpayers looking to bail out. But ultimately, what the bailout does is help those who are concerned about the health-care reform that is needed to help shore up our economy, helping the—it’s got to be all about job creation, too, shoring up our economy and putting it back on the right track. So health-care reform and reducing taxes and reining in spending has got to accompany tax reductions and tax relief for Americans. And trade, we’ve got to see trade as opportunity, not as a competitive, scary thing. But one in five jobs being created in the trade sector today, we’ve got to look at that as more opportunity. All those things under the umbrella of job creation. This bailout is a part of that.

What’s defines a terrorist.
This definition is subjective at best. The republicans think William Ayers. The collective US population thinks Osama Bin Ladin.
The Iraqi’s think the US.
What defines a HERO.
This definition is subjective at best as well.
The republicans think John McCain.
The democrats think Barak Obama
The Pakistani’s and Iranian’s think Osama Bin Ladin.
It all depends on who you are and where you are. The world has very narrow minded views. That’s what got the US in the pickles we are in now all around the world.
We think our ideology is the best. Maybe for us, but we shouldn’t go around the world trying to push them down everyone’s throat.

I CAN FIX WHAT’S BROKEN WITH THE US
IT IS VERY EASY
Change the tax rate to 12% across the board. Close ALL tax loopholes. No CAP on earnings. Everyone pays 12% no matter if you make 1000.00 per year or 1 trillion per year. The tax code would be gone and everyone would do a shout form – no deductions, no loopholes period!
The IRS would no longer need to be so big, because running an automated system would be simplified.
This would help lower the federal budget as well.

Clintonite for McCain…
Stated that He had to get back to Washington… This is B.S. as we all know but this goes to show everyone that lies do work to persuade individuals. If one can not see the truth behind the lies then we are all doomed. Politicians are easy to spot lying all one has to do is see if their lips are moving… This is the first clue… Yes Obama has this same issue…
The point is lets all don’t be taken in by the rhetoric! Lets look at the facts McCain wants to give tax breaks for businesses and individuals that make more than 2.5% of the population no one else! He wants to give you a $5000.00 rebate for buying Health Insurance… Who has 5,000.00 to pay for it in the first place… Obama wants to pool our money and buy insurance cheaper… I’m all for that and if anyone starts with the socialist bs think about how wall street is socialized right along with congresses health plan! The only time one hears the words socialist is when the top earners see it eating into their profit.
Letterman will continue to be more or less who he has been well before this election and well after… McCain will have to do a whole lot of convincing to pull his butt out the hole he has dug for himself…

Why is it that when it comes to experience McCain states that Palin’s experience as a mayor, governor and PTA member have prepared her to be president?
And that when talking about his hero Ronald Reagan and his lack of experience in foreign policy feels he was a great president.
“In all due respect, one of the people I admired most was an obscure governor of a southern state called Arkansas and he turned out to be a fairly successful president,” McCain said. “I mean, Ronald Reagan was a cowboy, no experience in international affairs. So, look, I think she has shown leadership.”
But when it comes to Obama, McCain feels his experience, which dwarfs either one of these people he speaks so highly of, does not have the experience required to run the country.
With his education (look it up), experience as a senator, community organizer, and civil rights attorney, Obama stands prepared to lead this county in to a better future.
A future where everyone will have health insurance and the oil companies will not continue to funnel all of our money into their pockets.

This would have a positive effect on 95% of the country. The think (s)he left off was that corporate America needs an overhaul as well – Close the corporate and privet loopholes and you have a fair and equatable tax system that would help just about everyone

If you want to see cheaters and liars, look no further than McCain/Palin. As for Obama standing with his “cocktail and hot date” – what the heck are you talking about? WHO gets his hands dirty and is not afraid of working on hard problems? Obama. Who is temperate, honest and thoughtful? Obama. Who is for the little guy, as well as the middle guy? Obama. McCain has not had a household budget in DECADES. He actually thinks a tax ‘credit’ will allow middle class people to buy health insurance (I’ll save you money next April, if you spend it this January… – stupid! Most average Joe six-packs, as the Republicans like to address, do not have the extra $8,000 to buy the health insurance up front. McCain has had Cindy’s accountants paying the bills for over 2 decades, and is totally clueless about this). I can’t wait for this to be over so I won’t have to listen to these inane neo conservatives.

1st battle: not to allow citizens with a zero IQ to vote – call it disenfranchising if you must, but stupid people elected the village idiot two times in a row.
2nd battle: is to not elect a politician with an average IQ. One that can speak on more then one level, one that can articulate a clear thought and not repeat him/herself over and over and over, get it my friend?
BTW – Joe the plumber has been exposed – he and his boss (the only two people in the company) are not licensed plumbers and will probably have to pay a fine for not having the license – Sam (Joe the plumber) will be able to purchase the company much cheaper by next week because of this exposure – see what 15 minutes of fame can do to you? His offer of 250K will be more like – gee boss, can I keep my job?

Education isn’t everything. Ted Bundy wasn’t a slouch in the IQ department.
The investment bankers that just raped and pillaged the American tax payer also have a pretty nice educational background.
Obama has said he wants to spread our wealth around and nationalize health care. What more do you need to know that he’s a socialist/communist?
Regarding Joe – he never said he made the money. He said might buy a business that would someday earn that much. The left has probably preemptively killed that dream.

Funny how everyone (that’s liberal) thought Dave Letterman’s bashing of McCain when McCain skipped out on him was credible, but now that McCain and Dave have made nice, Letterman is no longer credible. I understand, the poll numbers are slipping and you’re getting anxious, but seriously, act like an adult once in awhile.
Badger: Who’ll bring more change, the guy who votes with the 25% approval rating president 90% of the time, or the guy who votes with his 15% approval rating congress 94% of the time? Think for yourself for 3 seconds…

Why do the self-proclaimed “conservatives” respond with emotion whereas the posts from the self-proclaimed “liberals” sound more logical? What scripture equates liberal with evil & conservative with good? And finally, to those who have the nerve to liken Republicans’ platforms to divine will, do you expect there to be two lines on the day of judgment: one for conservatives the other for liberals? Get out of the box & think. A decade of media soundbytes & instant messaging have caused a devolution towards neanderthalism.
Your Divine Creator is as He is, Alone with no equals. He is not a card-carrying member of any political party. The parties and associations that we humans associate ourselves with are infinitismally small and insignificant compared to the objectives for which human beings were created: to know, acknowledge and worship their Creator.

McCain’s explanation as to why he dissed Letterman in favor of Kouric speaks volumes. He reneged on his original commitment to Letterman and agreed instead to be interviewed by Kouric because he wanted to reach a wider audience. He broke his word in exchange for pragmatism, just like he broke his word about running a clean, respectable campaign. His true character comes through and re-enforces my suspicions that he is a man that can’t be trusted.

I admire Senator McCain for telling the truth.
Honesty is the best policy!
=======================================
When Letterman asked if Palin was ready to become president if events forced that to occur, McCain emphatically answered, “yes.”
========================================
Saying Palin is ready to be president contradicts the honesty the poster says McCain displays. If McCain were honest he would admit that Palin is not ready to be president. Of course, he cannot do that in the middle of campaign. But it is obvious she is not to any thinking person in this country…

Clintonite for McCain:
So “suspending” his campaign for 3 days showed how serious McCain considered the financial meltdown that he and his party have caused? McCain, Mr. NOREGULATION, allowed his superrich, greedy, immoral CEO friends to GAMBLE and LOSE the money WE invested with their companies. McCain suspends his campaign EVERY weekend to go home and babysit his drug addict wife! What he did was grandstanding. He was looking for some way to draw attention away from the next president of the USA, Mr. Barack Hussein Obama! Obama will rescue America, not just Wall Street.

Really, an unfair interview by Dave, and an unfair way to treat an American War Hero. Although, to McCain’s credit, I thought he did a better job of debating Dave than he did at debating Obama. Not sure what that means…
These days everybody wears their politics on their sleeves. Does anyone not? I need to check out Kimmel. I keep forgetting to but I need to remember to try his show out.
I’m just looking for an escape from it. Dave’s show used to be an escape from everything but it hasn’t been for the last few years and I keep hoping it’s going to change but I guess not.

What do you think the government is engaged in RIGHT NOW! They are not practicing capitalism, they are engaged in a pseudo-socialist campaign to rescue he world from their freemarket, noregulation environment they created. It is pseudo-socialism because all they are spreading around are the loses, none of the wealth will get passed to the average person, only the debts. With Obama we will have a president who realizes that these golden parachutes and outrageous salaries paid to Facist CEO’s are destroying our society. It is time for some reality to be brought back into the picture and for the government to start ensuring that these greedy, immoral Facists are not gambling with the finances of everyone else.

One of McCain’s glaring weaknesses is his willingness under stress to betray his principles. By listening to his campaign advisors and going dirty i.e. “palling around with terrorists”, he showed me he is willing to do anything to win. When this election is over, McCain will have lost not only his bid for the White House, but his honor as well.

You and your conservative brethren would force me to worship YOUR God, give birth to a child who was conceived by rape or incest or any other manner, only listen to Fox News and Rush and waste my vote by casting it for McCain. Kawasaki,
He wasn’t a senator until january 2005. If he was actually in office in 2003 when it came time to vote for or against the war his record clearly shows that he would have voted present. He was right on the economy when he hired Jim Johnson former CEO of Fannie Mae to help him find a good VP? Jim Johnson and Fannie Mae helped destroy our economy. Get your facts straight. In 2002 Obama was still thinking about his failed bid for the house of rep in 2000. He was against the suge but it looks like he already admitted that he was wrong about that. Yoy think he’s right about not talking to Columbia because of union issues but wants to sit down with Iran? Where’s Barry’s birth certificate?

Truth: two weather underground terrorists were killed or don’t you consider them human beings? 7 were injured in bombings you don’t care about that though do you. Was Tim a friend of McCains? No, but great point. If William Ayers father wasn’t the former CEO of ComEd things would have been different. In fact it was his daddy who got him into the Univ of Chicago through Daley a fellow democrat. Its funny thinking about Daley and Ayers seeing that Daley had the Chicago cops beat up a bunch of his friends but thats what domecrats do in Chicago.

Why I am voting Democrat!
I’m voting Democrat because I believe the government will do a better job of spending MY MONEY than I would. I think when you spread the wealth around it is good for everybody! It’s Patriotic!
I’m voting Democrat because I believe that business should not be allowed to make profits for themselves. All profits are evil and should be confiscated for Government Redistribution.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe that MORE Government regulations and higher taxes on Business will stop Business from exporting their jobs to Countries with LESS Government regulations and lower taxes.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe terrorists should be allowed to have trials in American courts. And be able to subpoena top secret documents, soldiers, government officials, etc. to cross examine for their defense. They should have ACLU lawyers who can help intimidate Americans who serve on the juries!
I’m voting Democrat because I believe in a FREE government health care system. I believe doctors, nurses, hospitals, drug companies, etc. will gladly donate their time, products, services, facilities, etc. for FREE and that will be a better system.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe in and support trial lawyers, frivolous lawsuits and outrageous jury verdicts.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe 9/11 was an inside job to con the American people to go to war for oil.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe social security is solvent and that there is a social security lock box and I don’t believe social security is a Ponzi scheme.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe Gay Marriage should be the law of the land and will probably produce better children.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe English should not be the official language of the United States. I don’t mind pushing one for English when I use the phone.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe partial birth abortion is okay but water boarding a terrorist is disgusting.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe having a domestic terrorist like Bill Ayers as a close friend is a good thing. It allows for great relations with foreign terrorists.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe MOST AMERICANS are bitter and cling to their guns and religion. Let’s rid our country of guns and religion!
I’m voting Democrat because I believe illegal aliens deserve all the rights of ordinary Americans plus some additional rights Americans do not have.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe groups like ACORN who register felons, drug addicts, wino’s, homeless drifters, illegal aliens, dead people, children, fictional Disney characters, etc. makes my vote count more.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe celebrating the winter solstice shows compassion for the small minority of people that do not celebrate Christmas.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe hard core criminal murders and rapists deserve life and that the innocent unborn deserve death. It’s a choice I can live with.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe Bush caused Hurricane Katrina and he blew-up the levies in the ninth ward of New Orleans.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe our soldiers are AIR RAIDING villages and killing innocent people.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe sex in the Oval Office with an intern is a private matter and that everybody lies under oath about sex.
I’m votin Demokrat becuse I wus edumkated at a publick sckrool.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe that any one who is not partaking in one of the many wonderful government programs obviously has too much money and should pay higher taxes.
I’m voting Democrat because when we pull out of Iraq the terrorists will be happy and now think of us as good people.
I’m voting Democrat because freedom of speech is fine as long as it does not offend people. Can’t we all just get along?
I’m voting Democrat because I believe oil companies’ profits are wrong. I believe higher taxes on oil companies will produce lower prices at the pump.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe we need to rid ourselves of dependency on foreign oil, BUT I AM AGAINST offshore drilling for oil and natural gas, drilling in Anwar, building nuclear power plants and clean coal technology.
And finally, I’m voting Democrat because I believe Reverend Wright when he said “GODDAMN AMERICA” and “OUR CHICKENS ARE COMING HOME TO ROOST”. Hey let’s make a comfortable nest for those chickens!
Why are you voting Democrat?

I’m voting democrat because I don’t know any better, and all my friends are too!
I’m voting Democrat because the guy has cute purple lips and big ears.
I’m voting Democrat because I don’t have a clue what to do with my life.
I’m voting Democrat because I’m all for Marxism and Communism, it’s a really “radical” idea!

I used to be a fan of Letterman. But he has turned into a whining liberal wimp.
As for Obama, it’s hard not to be negative about him. He has done so little that can be seen as positive. He is un-tried, un-tested and still wet behind the ears. His relationships with the anti-white, anti-semite Jeremiah Wright, with the anti-American terrorists William Ayers and Bernadette Dohrn and with the convicted felon, deal-maker Tony Rezko among others, only demonstrate Obama’s amazing ability to talk out of both sides of his mouth. How does he explain such colossal lapses in judgement? He “wasn’t aware” that these people were who they were. Amazing! The rest of us knew who they were and what they stood for. Only the naive Obama had no clue.
If elected, Obama will make changes alright. But none of us, not even his most fawning fans will be happy with them. It’s time to come down to earth and consider what’s best for this country and for our children’s future. And Obama the man-child isn’t the solution.

The media seems to be overlooking this very important story on how the son of the Republican presidential nominee — and one of the campaign’s biggest fundraisers — suddenly and mysteriously resigned from Silver State Bank in July, citing only “personal reasons,” refusing to discuss the issue with the media (or even return their calls). Sadly, America is in the thick of the biggest national financial crisis since the savings and loan meltdown of the 1980s and McCain was at the epicenter of the 11th bank failure this year. Yet, silence

Touchy people these Obamanites, eh? Poke a little fun at their Messiah and off they go. Relax. Take a chill pill. It’s still a free country… freedom of speech and all that. Let’s not have the Dems repressing thoughts and ideas like the Bushies, shall we?

The McCain campaign is seeking to clarify a remark reported from a Sarah Palin fundraiser in North Carolina yesterday in which the Alaska Governor declared that she loved to visit the “pro-America” areas of the country — implying, implicitly, that there were some parts of the United States she viewed as not pro-America.

On the eve of President Bush’s signing of the housing bill this week, which will regulate, as well as bail out, mortgage behemoth Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and create a $300 billion program to expand the Federal Housing Administration’s capacity to guarantee mortgages, comes word that Andrew McCain, son of presumptive Republican nominee, John McCain, has resigned today from Silver State Bank’s Board of Directors. The bank cites “personal reasons” for Mr. McCain’s sudden departure (Las Vegas Review-Journal)
Andrew McCain was appointed to the Board of the Henderson, Nevada bank in February where he served on the Audit Committee. Prior to coming to Silver State, he was the director of the Choice Bank in Scottsdale, Arizona until its merger with Silver State Bancorp which has 13 branches in Southern Las Vegas, and 4 branches in Arizona, and California.
While, according to Yahoo Finance, construction and land loans make up more than 70% of the bank’s lending portfolios, Silver State also lists residential mortgage loans as among its specialties.
“When the casinos treat you poorly, let Silver State treat you like a valued customer” is the bank’s declared mission state. Given widespread speculation about the prospect of hundreds of bank failings, a motto like this one is enough to cause the hair on the back of your neck stand up, as well as ask a few hugely important questions.

This article fails miserably. After the commercial break, McCain said, “I know Gordon Liddy. He paid his debt, he went to prison … I’m not in any way embarrassed to know Gordon Liddy.” This bares repeating – McCain is not embarrassed to have had a fundraiser at the house of the biggest single political scandal in US history?!?!?!?!?

Todd Palin belonged to the AIP … Joe Vogler, AIP allied itself with the Islamic dictatorship in Iran in 1993 so that Vogler could appear at the United Nations to appeal for Alaska’s freedom from US “tyranny.” A fellow AIP member murdered Vogler before he could take the UN stage. The current AIP chairwoman, Lynnette Clark, believes that Vogler’s killer was framed and all but blames the Federal government for Vogler’s “execution.”

A COUPLE OF TELLING THINGS HAPPENED LAST NIGHT.
1. ALTHOUGH MCCAIN HAS STATED HE KNOWS HOW TO GET BIN LADEN, LAST NIGHT HE SAID THAT IT WAS NOT POSSIBLE YET. NOT HOW IT SOUNDED IN THE 1ST DEBATE.
2. AGAIN WHEN ASKED WHAT QUALIFIES PALIN AS VP/PRES, HE STATES, “I AM SO PROUD OF HER AND HER HUSBAND TODD RAN A 2000 MILE RACE ACROSS ALASKA TWICE. THEY ARE A GREAT FAMILY. THEY HAVE A SPECIAL NEEDS CHILD. I AM SO PROUD OF HER.” HOW DOES ANY OF THIS QUALIFY HER AS A VP. AND WHO IS TAKING CARE OF THAT SPECIAL NEEDS CHILD. WILL HE EVER UNDERSTAND HE IS A PAWN IN A DIRTY POLITICAL FIGHT? IN FACT, WHO IS TAKING CARE OF ANY OF HER KIDS? HOW ABOUT HER HER SWORN OATH TO ALASKA. I GUESS WE SHOULD BE GLAD THAT PRES/VP IS AS HIGH AS IT GOES OR SHE FORSAKE HER OFFICE TO GO HIGHER. PLEASE EVERYONE STOP AND THINK OF THE POSSIBLE CONSEQUENCES.
3. THERE ARE DIFFERENT STANDARDS FOR WHO YOU ARE SEEN WITH. OKAY FOR MCCAIN/NOT FOR OBAMA.
WHAT LETTERMAN DID LAST NIGHT WAS ASK WHAT WE ALL WANTED TO ASK. MCCAIN GAVE HIM THE RUN AROUND LIKE ALWAYS. LETTERMAN POINTED IT OUT. MCCAIN WANTED OUT. BETTER THAN A DEBATE FOR INFO.
TO PEOPLE BASING THEIR OPINIONS ON RACE- PEOPLE LIKE YOU ONLY PROVE HOW IGNORANT SOME CAN BE. YOU DON’T RESEARCH AND MAKE INTELLIGENT DECISIONS AND IT SHOWS. YOUR THE REASON WE NEED A BETTER EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM. THE LAST EIGHT YEARS HAVE NOT HELPED YOU AT ALL.

You people who call John McSame a hero make me sick! Do you realize, your “hero” broke while a POW! He broke! Told All he knew! and then…….turned on his own kind!! He became one of the Cong’s “Pets!” People say in his defense that I don’t know the torture he indured which is quite true. I do know however, that thousands of others have died rather than do what John McSame did! Yeah, John could have came home earlier (he was privileged) but it is not that John didn’t want to leave without the rest of the POWs, he wasn’t anxious to come back because he was afraid he would be prosecuted for all that he had done! So much for your Republican “Hero!” Then again, you republicans also said your AWOL Cheer-leader was a “hero” as well……I guess when you are a republican, you really don’t have much to choose from, eh???? It must really suck to be a Republican!

FYI: The Onlt thing John McSame could say in his own defense for breaking down, telling all he knew to the enemy, turning on his own kind, and becomming one of the Cong’s “pets” was, “I SHOULD HAVE BEEN STRONGER!”
It is amazing that a combat veteran who has claimed to be a conservative Senator is now leading the fight to reward with amnesty, the millions of Mexican and Central American criminals who have invaded our nation. While the betrayal of the American people on behalf of foreign invaders by Sen. John McCain may be puzzling to most, the former POW has a history betraying his fellow citizens in favor of a foreign enemy. In light of the looming vote to turn this country into a Third World nation, the question of McCain’s true motives should be examined.
On October 26, 1967, U.S. Navy Lt. John McCain was shot down over North Vietnam by a Soviet-made surface-to-air missile. As a result of ejecting from his plane, McCain suffered two broken arms and a broken leg. He was immediately captured by an angry mob and turned over to NVA soldiers, who broke his shoulder with a rifle butt and stabbed his foot with a bayonet. He was then taken to the infamous ‘Hanoi Hilton.’
Once in a cell, he was beaten and interrogated daily. Still being refused medical treatment and in severe pain, McCain agreed to talk in exchange for medical treatment. He was then taken to a nearby hospital. McCain described the events in his 1999 book Faith of My Fathers, in which he said: “Demands for military information were accompanied by threats to terminate any medical treatment if I did not cooperate. Eventually, I gave them my ship’s name and squadron number, and confirmed that my target had been the power plant.”
The North Vietnamese Army discovered that Lt. McCain was the son of Adm. John McCain Jr., commander of the Pacific Fleet, and his grandfather was Adm. John McCain Sr. who commanded aircraft carriers under Adm. Bill Halsey in the Pacific during World War II. Because of his family’s powerful military heritage, the NVA believed that Lt. McCain would one day hold a prominent position in the U.S. government. He then became the target of incredible torture and attempts at re-education, some sessions were reportedly conducted by Soviet officers.
McCain has said that he was regularly visited by senior communist Vietnamese officials. One visitor was famous NVA Gen. Vo Nguyen Giap.
Eventually, McCain signed a letter claiming to be a war criminal and apologizing for the U.S. involvement in Vietnam. He also did many radio and television interviews, some with foreign correspondents which is a severe violation of the military code of conduct.
Despite John McCain’s years of painful torture at the hands of the NVA, he has been Hanoi’s strongest advocate in the U.S. Senate. For years, he pushed for the normalization of relations with communist Vietnam, even though that country has never fully cooperated on the issue of American POW’s. Read it all for yourselfs and then decide, “WHO IS John McSame?”http://www.vietnamveteransagainstjohnmccain.com/cin_wasmccainbrainswashed.htm

I can’t believe Sarah Palin called certain parts of the country UnAmerican. Look at the words she used. Pro American, Real Americans, and Best of America. What kind of Right Wing nut is Sarah Palin to be running for VP and insulting the same folks she wants to vote for her. I guess its only Obama supporters or anybody who doesn’t support their robo calls and low road campaign tactics. I think the media is taking this too lightly. Sarah Palin during a fund raiser said that only certain parts of the country are patriotic and real Americans and she’s running to be VP and proberly president. Thats very alarming and I think she needs to explain exactly which part of America does she think is UnAmerican or less patriotic. This is starting to become a narrative. On Chris Mathews today congresswoman Michelle Bockwman said that congress should be integregated on who’s American and anti-American. Now Sarah Palin is stating that only certain parts of America are Pro America. This follows 3 weeks of attacks from the Mccain/Palin campaign that questioned Obama’s patriotism. The republicans and Mccain/Palin campaign should be questioned about their patriotism its the Republican party that has made the economy worst with their deregulation and their Right Wing policies for the rich. Its the Republican Party that has us in 2 wars thats costing us Billions a month. How patriotic is the Republican Pary when the leader of their Party is leaving the country with 2 wars with no resolution, 11 trillion in debt, and a economy in turmoil? Their the ones if anybody who’s patriotism should be in quesion. I think if Mccain/Palin were in the White House the country would be worst with their radical Right Wing beliefs and their decisive nature. KEEP MCCAIN/PALIN OUT OF THE WHITE HOUSE. WHY HASN’T THE MEDIA ASK MCCAIN ABOUT HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH GORDON LIDEY? IT TOOK DAVID LETTERMAN A NIGHT SHOW COMEDIAN TO GIVE MCCAIN A REAL INTERVIEW. THE MOST EFFECTIVE INTERVIEW MCCAIN HAS HAD THROUGHOUT THIS CAMPAIGN.

We haven’t had a decent president since DDE, except Ronald Reagan. I think for the first time since I turned 18 ( 37 yrs ago)- I will not vote this time. Obama or McCain either way we are screwed. When I say we I mean the middle class. I don’t think I will ever vote again until any person running for any political office goes to prison for at least four years to make up for the screwing of all the middle class people while they were in office.

Hey, jerro, Fraudian Slip?
You said you meant that Obama was NOT a doddering idiot like McCain.
McCain does not “dodder” but Obama is a
very frightning person. If he wins this election you can kiss your freedom goodby and McCain went through hell to help you keep that freedom and the freedom to bash a good man.

Obama is an empty suit stuffed with political platitudes. Oh, yes, the empty suit’s lapel has a flag pin on it. He fought against wearing one until a focus group told him it might be a good idea to wear it.– what a political hack. Obama has no experience in bringing people together. He is a wet-behind-the-ears, accidental candidate with a dangerous ideology. From the beginning of his campaign he has succeeded only in tearing people apart. He is a divider. And we remain divided into two camps: The people who love their political party – the Democrat libs…and the people who love their country.
