McCain’s New TV Ad Stars Obama…Praising McCain
"Since coming to Washington, I’ve believed that the right approach begins with the proposal put forward by Senator Lieberman and Senator McCain," Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., said at a Committee On Environment and Public Works hearing on Jan. 30, 2007, "a proposal they’ve been pushing for years, and I thank them again for their leadership on this issue. The Lieberman-McCain Bill establishes limits for greenhouse gas emissions well into the 21st century. To remain below these limits, the bill encourages the market to determine how best to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, rewarding cost effective approaches using a system of tradable allowances."
The McCain campaign is using this riff in a new TV ad:
There are two schools of thought on this ad. One is that this helps McCain to show his opponent praising him on an issue that appeals to moderates and independents, that it helps undo the demonizing Obama has done.
The other is that this mis-reads the electorate, that one of the aspects of Obama voters like is that he praises Republicans. You may recall the myriad times during the first presidential debate when Obama agreed with McCain. The McCain campaign seized upon this as a weakness and released a Web video. The Obama campaign said voters in their focus groups loved those "agreeable" moments of Obama’s.
What do you think of the ad?

We are ALREADY seeing what kind of a president Sen. Obama will make. Sen. Obama purged the reporters of newspapers that have endorsed Sen. McCain from his plane. And earlier this week the Obama campaign banned WFTV in Florida for asking Sen. Biden a question he didn’t like. Sen. Obama does NOT like opposition. These will not be the last purges. WAKE UP AMERICA!
Remember it was President Clinton’s White House staff that was found with the FBI files of 1,000 prominent Republicans. Could that be why Sen. Obama needs a one million member civilian national security force with a funding of $500 billion. It wouldn’t take his civilian national security force very long to create a file on EVERY American. WAKE UP AMERICA!
Those of you who, wrongly, believe that President Bush has stripped you of your rights, may soon see what it really means to have your rights stripped away should Sen. Obama be elected. WAKE UP AMERICA!

If McCain & the Republicans were right on the issues they would get the vote, .. country seems to indicate that they want something different. It would be a good thing if accountability came back in vogue…. Bush et. al have to answer for what they’ve done.
The ad to me shows Obama’s willingness to look for answers and solutions from whatever source is available….and he’s not afraid to give credit., even to Republicans when they (snarky inflection) sometimes get it right.

As an Obama supporter, I see nothing but good out of this commercial. It highlights the fact, that Senator Obama is beyond the partisan ways of Washington. He can give credit when credit is due; in contrast to his opponents who downplay his accomplishments. Don’t worry, we’ll end the suffering on Tuesday for America…McCain supporters, in order to experience joy, you need pain. The pain of Nov 4th will hurt for a month or two…After this blows over, you’ll realize that the American’s who you plead for to “Wake Up”(James Danley), did what was best for you!

1. Tax relief to the wealthy with no relief for the middle class/poor.
2. Fighting in Iraq, which is the wrong country by the way, instead of forcing the Iraqi gov’t to take over their own reponsibility as we spend 10 Billion dollars in Iraq /month
3. No innovation or new ideas. Stuck with the ideas/policies of the past
4. Income wages decreasing instead of increasing as they did during the Clinton years
5. No unity or equality for anyone (would rather have parties and people within the same party fighting)
6. Deregulation of the free market so the credit market can freeze again
7.Taxing health care so 20 million people can lose their work coverage
8. VP candidate that says her foreign policy experience is watching Russia from Alaska
9. VP candidate doesn’t even know her job descrpition
O yeah we get it.
And thats why the MAJORITY of Americans will vote for Obama/Biden 08

The commercial works in favor of McCain, because at this point in time, we’ve been bombarded with ads from Obama that tell us how out-of-touch McCain is, and how poor is judgment is. The commercial tells us that Obama is deliberately lying about McCain for political reasons, and that, in fact, McCain has a positive record on fighting to preserve the environment.

I’m sorry, did I read this right? McCain’s sorry excuse for a campaign is now saying that people who AGREE with McCain are wrong?
The fact is that like millions of others who thought John McCain was the best man for the job in 2000, I have come to realize that the current version of John McCain isn’t fit for the job any more. He’s a great Senator, though, and I’m sure that come January 2009, President Obama will be more than happy to work with him to make sure this country becomes great again.

By the way, judging from the voters’ reaction after the 1st debate, this approach did not all that well for McCain. So, his campaign repeats it at its own peril.

TO Steve from NH :
Hey,Steve. Obama was praising McCain for legislation WRITTEN AND PUSHED BY MCCAIN/LIBERMAN, a republican and a democrat (evidence of bipartisanship!?)
They didn’t help pass legislation, they co-sponsored it.
Obama was praising their work. It was not Obama’s work. It was McCain’s/Liberman. The other way around.
If McCain’s judgement is so bad. And Obama posted a deceiving video on how McCain is not for the environment. How ccome Obama is praising their efforts on sponsoring this legislation!?
Nice video! About time the media stop the bias! it has been 57% negative to McCain to 34% neg to Obama average. And MSNBC is the worst at 74% neg to McCain and only 17% neg towards Obama.
Where is the Balanced reporting from the media????????????

I am shocked that John McCain has decided to use this advert to score cheap political point.
To me, what this video has shown is the magnanimity of Barack Obama in praising people when they have done something good and he will be the first person(Barack) to recognise that. This also is a testimony to the good nature of Obama in remaining positive. This video is also a confirmation of Barack Obama’s bipartisan’s spirit and his ability to be positive.
This is a different compared with John McCain, who has been lying about his oponent just to get elected, as well as the negative tone that his campaign has assumed throughout this campaign.
John McCain has tried all he could to pull Obama down with his lies and innuendos even when Obama has remained above board.
I am so proud of Obama in this video. This confirms how sweet he is. And that what we are seeing of Obama now is part and parcel of his life and not just something for the campaign.
Well done, Barack. I am proud of you.

Pain VA Blue, actually is has been President Bush’s domestic policies that had gotten us through the previous hits to our economy (i.e., 2000-01 recession, 9/11, corporate scandals, 2004-05 major hurricanes, etc.). The economy was booming until the end of 2007 (5 million jobs created in 52 months) when the policies of the Democrats and the Liberals of forcing the banks to lower their lending standards finally “came home to roost.”

America, the choice for President will decide whether this country becomes a democratic-socialist nation, like Germany and France, where government controls and regulates most everything and business and taxpayers exist for the purpose of feeding social programs, or continues, as it as for 200 years, to be a free market, individual opportunity, nation where people determine their destiny and reap the rewards and take responsibility for the failures of their actions. In France, people are told they cannot work more than 35 hours per week because that is the only way high unemployment is avoided. Productivity is therefore low and many people who want to work harder to be able to make more money and get ahead in their lives leave to come hear. In Germany, there are very, very few non-technical jobs. If you don’t have a college degree (especially a technical degree), you don’t have work. Consequently, Germany has unlimited unemployment insurance and many people simply sit at home and do nothing, being subsidized by those who are working and pay the taxes. Think about whether it is wise to give up 200 years of free market capitalism, which, notwithstanding the “Doom and Gloom” prognosis of our past economic philosophy being offered by Obama, in reality has made this country great. We Americans have brought most of our current economic situation on ourselves by not insisting on buying American products and American companies and their shareholders have sold-out to “Globalism” with a maximize profits only mentality. The solution is not an Obama-Biden, Pelosi-Reid, government imposed democratic-socialism. John McCain is a reformer and he is best suited to addressing how to correct the shortcomings in our capitalist economy without throwing the whole system, and likely our long-term future as a great nation, down the drain.

Uh, right James, that’s why the Dems got voted in right – because the economy was “booming”?
The housing market had collapsed. THAT caused the financial crisis. And it occured well vefore the Dems took control of Congress.
The SEC DEREGULATION of the five mega-banks that crashed occured in 2004. That’s when they changed the lending to holds standards. In 2004. Again,it was a Republican controlled Congress and a Republican President.
The economic crisis did not occur in a year. No one but Limbaugh and Hannity say that. It took years of poor economic policy for this mess to develop.

Some talk of Obama restricting liberties. I think those people should read a book or two. Lets be real clear about the truth. When integrity mattered John McCain picked the most unqualifed person ever to run for VP. Dan Qualye was more qualified then Sarah. McCain showed how integrity can be put aside when he wanted to be president. His campaign has consisted of distortions, lies and fear mongering. His VP candidate is so unqualified to be president that it is astounding that any US citizen would even concider the ticket. Obama has campaigned mainly on the issues but unlike past elections he did not accept the Lee Attwater politics without responding. Yes he went on the attact in about 30% of his ads versus about 90% for the rebublicans. Dave from VA — REAL VA! The housing market, just like all markets, is cyclical–simple Economics 101. When prices get too high, people stop buying and prices drop. When the prices drop far enough, people jump back into the market and buy homes and prices begin to climb again. The reason we have a financial crisis is because of the Democratic policies–during the Clinton Administration–forcing banks to lower their lending practices so individuals who couldn’t afford to pay the loans could actually get loans. In spite of that, had that been the extent of it we would not be having the crisis we have today. With fixed mortgage rates the banks would have had to have ridden out the market. BUT instead, the banks pushed the flexible subprime mortgage rates on the consumers. Then when the value of the home dropped below the balance of the mortgage, the banks jacked up the interest rates. When the mortgage payments doubled, the homeowners and speculators couldn’t make their payments and the banks began foreclosing in mass.
The housing market would already be on its way back had it not been for the freezing up of loans. There are millions of potential home buyers out there RIGHT NOW. But they just can’t get a loan. So until the banks start loaning money again, it will just make the crisis longer and deeper.

Dave, the Democrats were voted into office in 2006 because of the anti-war sentiment and because the Democrats and the mainstream media did a wonderful job of portraying the Republicans as being a “culture of corruption.” The mainstream media refused to cover several key corruption scandals that involved Democrats until after the election.

Thank you John McCain for the ad promoting Obama and the fact that he compliments work well done as a president should. (personally I think, no I know John McCain and his campaign strategy is a disaster)Go figure this one! A freebe

This really shows how Obama can reach across the aisle.

Further this ad makes it look like a bunch of thirty year old Obama supporters with no sense of history are running McCain’s campaign. My wife and I sent the McCain campaign money and they are wasting it. This ad makes me very angry.

this ad makes mccain look like he should have hired a bunch of 30 year olds to run his campaign to better compete with obama. mccain’s people are out of touch.

Sirs
My tuppence worth from a true friend of America on that little island on the other side of the pond.
The very idea of Obama as your Commander in Chief fills me with a deep sense of dread. My intuition and gut feeling is telling me he is a fraud who will sell you down the river.
McCain’s your man, Mrs Palin is a formidable woman and Joe the Plumber is a knockout. Long Live America.
Sincerely from Blighty.

If only McCain would end all of his ads with, “I’m John McCain, I’m a veteran, anyone is welcome to see my actual original birth certificate not some meaningless lame COLB, and I approved of this ad. Thank you.”

Drink some more Kool-Aid Nobama followers. That’s what Jim Jones’ followers did and look what happened to them. God have mercy on our hard-hearted countrymen who are looking for a false Messiah to fill up their empty souls.

Obama looks and acts rather Presidential in this ad.

I liked the ad, but probably not how McCain would like it to be liked. I believe it shows Obama as bi-partisan, and pragmatic. It will appeal to undecided “blue dog” democrats in Obama’s favor.

All of you seemed to have missed the fact that Sen. Obama’s campaign speeches have been criticizing Sen. McCain’s energy plans as being just “gimmicks” and that Sen. McCain’s policies “will only increase our oil addiction for another four years.” Sen. Obama has also said, “What Washington has done is what Washington always does: It’s peddled false promises, irresponsible policy and cheap gimmicks that might get politicians through the next election but won’t lead America toward the next generation of renewable energy. For decades, John McCain has been a part of this failure in Washington.”
This ad contradicts what Sen. Obama has been saying on the stump about Sen. McCain’s energy policy.

I think the McCain/Palin camp emphasizes “fight, fight, fight” too much. They really don’t get evolution. We shouldn’t be trying to eat/defeat others to survive in this day and age. We’re supposed to be an evolved society. That ish McCain/Palin spew is so primitive! It is so yesterday/last century!
Obama/Biden 08!

Common Sense, you wrote:

If we shouldn’t “fight” or defeat others, shouldn’t the Democrats be willing to become Republicans and Obama withdraw right now just so he doesn’t risk defeating McCain? And all liberals should become conservatives, or is just conservatives who are being “divisive” when they disagree with liberals?

Great, McCain first tells me that I shouldn’t vote for Obama becuase he can’t be trusted. Now McCain tells me that I should vote for him because Obama endorses his environmental policies?
Which is it, should I trust Obama but not vote him, or should I not trust Obama but be swayed by this endorsement?
