McCain’s Must-Win Battleground States

The Big Ten Battleground Polls just can’t be right. The latest surveys show Barack Obama leading John McCain in all eight Midwestern states all by double-digits. Rather than calling them battleground states, you have to call them McCain must-wins. Obama has built up incredible double-digit leads in the states won by Sen. John Kerry in 2004.
It also looks like he has insurmountable leads in Iowa and New Mexico, two states that voted for President George W. Bush four years ago. So that leaves eight states Obama and McCain are fighting for right now: Florida, Ohio, North Carolina, Virginia, Colorado, Nevada, Indiana, and Missouri. McCain would have to win all eight of those battleground states to get to the 270 electoral votes needs to win the presidency. Even if McCain wins seven of his must-win states and loses say, Nevada, which has five electoral votes, he would tie Obama 269-269 in electoral votes. If there is a electoral tie, the 12th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution says the decision gets kicked to the House of Representatives, where each state gets a vote — a formula that would likely guarantee an Obama victory. Obama’s path to victory appears much easier right now. Obama needs only to win all the states won by Kerry in 2004, the Bush -won states of Iowa and New Mexico where he’s leading, plus one of Virginia, Ohio or Florida to become president of the United States. Currently Obama is leading in all three of those toss-up states. –George Stephanopoulos

At this time last year, Bush averaged about 1.5 points better than Kerry in the Popular Vote, according to Real Clear Politics which averages EVERY poll. At this moment, Obama averaging 7.5 over McCain.
McCain might bring it closer, but that is a huge gap. Especially since some people have already voted.
Don’t worry Republicans, I know how you feel, because my party (Dems) lost two close presidential elections in a row. It was devastating to some of us. Also, all my worries about Bush seemed to come true.
Time to give the Dems a chance at the big chair! If Obama ends up being a bad president, you’ll be able to elect a new one in 2012.
Let’s see if the Dems can turn this nation around!

Those polls are looking to be a bit high, but the trend is certainly supported. But it is still a closer race than it appears. Obama’s young and new voters have to actually show up at the polls and be willing to stick out the inevitable hours long saga that will plague districts that are not prepared for the turn out.
McCain is down now, but if the Obama supporters let up early he certainly can still slip in.

Investigators did say that they received photos from the ATM machine and “the photographs were verified as not being the victim making the transaction.”

When are people going to realize that the economic problem is a domino effect that has to start at the state level.
People should look at a overlapping map of the the states that are hitting a recession, a map of unemployment and a map of red and blue states. Throw in the education score and housing foreclosure and you will see an interesting correlation. The red states have higher education schools, lower unemployment rates and lower foreclosure rates. Those conservative governments of those states must have hide their true identities from the press. Those red states favor republicans.

McCain and the RNC will attempt to steal this election – just like the 2000 and 2004 elections were stolen – by striking legitimate voters from voter registration rolls. The DNC had better be VIGILANT about this. Obama’s lead will mean nothing if dirty politics are allowed to prevail.

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Police sources tell KDKA that a campaign worker has now confessed to making up a story that a mugger attacked her and cut the letter “B” in her face after seeing her McCain bumper sticker.
Ashley Todd, 20, of Texas, initially told police that she was robbed at an ATM in Bloomfield and that the suspect became enraged and started beating her after seeing her GOP sticker on her car.
Police investigating the alleged attack, however, began to notice some inconsistencies in her story and administered a polygraph test.
Authorities, however, declined to release the results of that test.
Investigators did say that they received photos from the ATM machine and “the photographs were verified as not being the victim making the transaction.”
This afternoon, a Pittsburgh police commander told KDKA Investigator Marty Griffin that Todd confessed to making up the story.
The commander added that Todd will face charges; but police have not commented on what those charges will be.
According to police, investigators working on the interview process detected several inconsistencies in Todd’s story that differed from statements made in the original police report.
Pittsburgh Police Public Information Officer Diane Richard released a statement earlier today, saying: “Because of the inconsistencies in her statements, Ms. Todd was asked to submit to a polygraph examination which she agreed to do.”
No photos of Todd are being released by Pittsburgh Police at this time.
The investigation is continuing as officials determine what charges will be filed.

What people should remember is this vote is not about parties. It is about whether we want to slip into Marxist/Communist policies (Obama) or continue the free market with tougher regulation (McCain).
Democrats should be just as scared of Obama as Republicans are.

Danielle,
There is a strong correlation. It does not come up in the media because it shows liberal policies do not work unless there is a workforce that is willing to pay for it.

Can anyone explain to me why Obama is dead set against private savings?
His own plan calls for allowing people to spend 10k of their own 401k savings penatly free.
His colleagues are putting together a plan to REMOVE the tax shelter of saving in a 401k.
There is also a Democratic push to increase mandatory SS savings..
Why is the government always the answer?

Just remember next year when you are standing in the unemployment line because your company’s higher taxes forced them to lay you off to “thank” Obama for your prosperity!
Hopefully he will have campaign money left over to “spread the wealth” but the way democrats spend spend spend, I doubt it.

Obama is a true American story—a story of strength and success. His auccessful campaigning exemplifies this truth. He unites the two races (“black” and “white”) and he embraces all races in America. He promotes a policy of inclusiveness. He is truely a God sent leader to save our country during these difficult times. May God bless the United States of America

McCain just had a terrible day.
A couple days ago, a McCain supporter claimed she was attacked by a black Obama supporter. Today, the woman admitted she made the story up to try to help McCain win in Pennsylvania.
This will be major news in Pennsylvania from now until the election. Look for McCain’s numbers to drop even further in Pennsylvania and neighboring Ohio.

Posted by: Debbie | October 24, 2008, 2:28 pm 2:28 pm

If Obama does not answer the myth around his birth certificate, he will be hurt on the election day.
I see all these lines of attack very powerful. Essentially, all McCain needs is to raise doubt in Obama himself and how the government would work if he is elected and with a dem-controlled congress.
This is clearly reflected in the volatile polls recently. Obama’s lead is between 1 point to 14 points. I think in the next few days, there will be polls showing McCain ahead a little. BY the election day, it is going to be anything-can-happen situation.

This can’t be right, the polls can’t be right, the pundits can’t be right. McCain and Palin are Republicans, so by definition they have to be ahead. The GOP is invincible, supreme, just, Godly. They are surely ahead by at least, using my GOP-calculator, 12 points. Hang in there Republicans, and remember to get out there and vote on November 5th… ;)

Put another way, *all* McCain has to do is win these eight usually reliably Republican states and he will win the Presidency.
All eight of these states were won by Bush both in 2000 and 2004, and both of those elections were very close. The exit polls were even wrong on both of those outcomes.
So if Bush can win those eight states twice in squeaker elections, it’s very possible that McCain can win them too.

HH – Actually, Republicans have spent far more than Democrats. They just don’t mind borrowing to do it so they can shift taxes and cost to the next generation. Both, Bush and Reagan by deficit spending added significant amounts to the nation’s debt. And, by the way, the unemployment lines have grown and the financial debacle have taken place under the Republicans. Maybe, corporations shouldn’t offer those golden parachutes and should use the funds to invest in their employees and product development instead of nest eggs for failed management.

Go study econ 101, if you think the next 4 to 8 years would be peaceful and prosperous under a Barrack Obama presidency. If you think the economy is bad now, you haven’t seen anything even close to how bad it could get under a Barrack Obama tax and spend presidency. Since the democrats have taken control of congress, the national deficit has doubled in one year alone. We can’t afford 4 years of Obama and the democrat extravagances. NOBama

I think many Republicans were swayed by Bush’s “Compassionate Conservatism”. Bush was just a left wing Democrat when it came to the economy though. He increased the government and let the Democrats provide “affordable housing” via Freddie and Fannie.. What did that get us?
You want more of the same except on a MUCH larger scale vote for Obama. He’s Bush on steroids when it comes to government spending.
McCain is the only one that has been fighting to cut spending and growth in the government.

are you seriously telling everyone that the Blue states in past elections New England, California, Minnesota, Oregon, Washington, etc… have lower incomes, lower education, and worse economies and lower educational levels than states that voted red… Ohio, Indiana, Alabama, Mississippi, ect..
Please check your facts, The Northeast and Pacific Northwest have had the highest rates of growth, economic development, high tech jobs, and education. Many of the red states currently have the worst economies in the country
Let’s be real we need a balance in this country and we need to save ourselves from ourselves, which is why Obama will win. The country and the world will be a better place because of it.
It was not until the last 3 or 4 decades that the idea of America and capitalism became so corrupted that the US moved to an every man, woman, and child for his or herself. We have returned to the Gilded Age where the Robber Barons had all the money and the power, it is time for the American Public to take it back and make our world a safer, more productive, and yes equitable place.
As Obama said we are all in this together. And furthermore….Since when is providing tax breaks to working people socialism. What do you call giving Tax breaks to the ultra wealthy?

Taxpayers! We are in more debt now and have the largest deficit in history in this country and please, remind me, who has been if office the last 8 years.
Prior to GW, we had a balanced budget and a surplus for God’s sake..and I guess we should be glad that’s what George was handed or we would be in even worse shape today! All of you anti-tax Republicans are hypocrites. I have been hearing the no-tax line from the Republicans for 40 years. It is pure bull. Here are the results; Ronald Reagan largest deficits in history; George Bush “no-new taxes” Senior – record deficits and raised taxes; Bill Clinton budget surplus and economic prosperity; George Bush Jr – record deficits and worst economic crisis since the great depression. Alan Greenspan said he was wrong about regulation. McCain said he did not understand economics and the economy was sound. The Republicans are economic morons. Their save the rich and big business at all cost has crashed our economy. It’s the deficits that have tanked the dollar. Anybody that believes the Republicans know what they are doing with the economy must have brain damage.

Posted by: Perspective | October 24, 2008, 2:51 pm 2:51 pm

A lot of Americans are hard workers and over the last several years seen the standard of life go down. I also heard a lot about socialism. All Dems want is the Government to work for ordinary Americans as hard as they work for rich Americans. Isn’t that the way America should be? Ask any American worker if he or she thinks all should have heath care and a quality education and I think you know the answer. McCain and Palin continue to bring division to the American people. The robocalls keep hyping on Ayers and trying to convince people that Obama palls around with terrorist. Millions of America will think we have a terrorist in Office if Obama wins and millions will be angry at McCain for the lies and division if he wins. Not good. McCain says to the lady that called Obama an Arab that Obama is a good and respected family man and yet the next thing you know McCain’s calls Obama a pal of a terrorist. What McCain should have said was he isn’t an Arab, but so what if he was. He isn’t a Muslim but so what if he is. By not saying these things he brings division and I’m sorry my friends, but my idea of America is a country where all religions and races are welcome with open hearts and minds and treated with equal respect. Many a Rep likes to use Jesus or being Christian as its base. Let me ask you. If you believe in the Christian belief and in Jesus’ teachings you would also understand that he didn’t like the Rich and wealthy and too, thought that all mankind was God’s children and believed in taking care of the less fortunate and hungry. He also thought forgiveness. So some that are claming a Christian base and yet are using division, racism or slander are going right against what they say they believe in. To knock any person strictly due to race, gender, wealth or religion is about the most un-American thing one can do. It takes away any since of patriotism or love for this country or its ideas or what this country was founded on. The Republican Party needs a self test and to reflect on what it really stands for. Remember there are 100 really good reasons to vote this election and one really bad reason not to vote and that’s prejudice. Obama has my vote and I am proud to support him.

Notice to All Employees
As of November 5, 2008, when President Obama is officially elected into office, our company will instill a few new policies which are in keeping with his new, inspiring issues of change and fairness:
1. All salespeople will be pooling their sales and bonuses into a common pool that will be divided equally between all of you. This will serve to give those of you who are underachieving a ‘fair shake.’
2. All low level workers will be pooling their wages, including overtime, into a common pool, dividing it equally amongst yourselves. This will help those who are ‘too busy for overtime’ to reap the rewards from those who have more spare time and can work extra hours.
3. All top management will now be referred to as ‘the government.’ We will not participate in this ‘pooling’ experience because the law doesn’t apply to us.
4. The ‘government’ will give eloquent speeches to all employees every week, encouraging it’s workers to continue to work hard ‘for the good of all.’
5. The employees will be thrilled with these new policies because it’s ‘good to spread the wealth.’ Those of you who have underachieved will finally get an opportunity; those of you who have worked hard and had success will feel more ‘patriotic.’
6. The last few people who were hired should clean out their desks. Don’t feel bad, though, because President Obama will give you free healthcare, free handouts, free oil for heating your home, free foodstamps, and he’ll let you stay in your home for as long as you want even if you can’t pay your mortgage. If you appeal directly to our Democratic Congress, you might even get a free flatscreen TV and a coupon for free haircuts.

Obama and Dems supported sub prime lending that crashed our current economics. Obama represented ACORN in court to force banks to lend money to the people who could not afford it. Obama is the second largest recipient of money from Fannie Mae. They refused to regulate bad loan practice proposed by McCain in 2005.

I’d say that by not taking public financing and being the first candidate to privately fund his campaign took some courage and determination. And it seemed to have worked out for him. John could have done the same if he wanted, but knew he would have a hard time getting anyone to actually support him. On the other hand, McCain said he would run an honorable campaign and then broke his pledge and started flat out attacking and lying, repeatedly and continuously. I would say that makes him much more untrustworthy, and just shows that he will do anything to win, regardless of how divisive or damaging to the country.

1) GWB was behind in polls. AG was announced the winner by several Liberal TV commentators. GWB won.
2) GWB was behind in polls. JK was announced the winner by several Liberal TV commentators. GWB won.
3) Everyone said the Iraq War was the reason Democrats captured a majority in the House in November 2006. NOT REALLY. We are still in Iraq. The majority of the House authorized financing and equipment upgrades ever since. They approved the Troop Surge.
Today: WE WON. The troop surge worked. We are pulling out of previous hot spot cities. The Iraq situation is “fragile”.
Who do you want in the White House, the best experience capable of handling the job of President or the worst experience?
John McCain is the “best experienced” candidate by an 80% to 20% poll.
Barack Obama is barely qualified in experience with a 52% to 42% poll.
Among likely voters and registered voters, John McCain whips Barack Obama with his 80% to 20% categorization by those polled as the “best experienced” for the job of President.
John McCain is the only Veteran who served in combat with the US Navy in Vietnam. For 5 1/2 years he was a POW in the Hanoi Hilton. He was tortured.
NOT ONE SNIVELING 18 YEAR OLD LIBERAL DEMOCRAT WOULD BE ABLE TO KEEP THE TEARS AWAY IF HE OR SHE HEARD AND SAW THE DETAILS OF THAT IMPRISONMENT.
NOT ONE.
John McCain has high Ethics values. He has Integrity, Honor …….Honor demonstrated as a POW that refused early release because the Rule was First In, First Out.

It’s official! Barack Obama was indeed a member of the socialist New Party when he first ran for the Illinois State Senate in 1996. The Obama organization and the ‘New Party’ have systematically attempted to cover up any ties between Obama and socialist organizations. However, it now appears that Barack Obama was indeed a certified and acknowledged member of the socialist New Party. A November 1996 editorial in the socialist journal “Progressive Populist” mentions that “New Party member Barack Obama was uncontested for a State Senate seat from Chicago.” Check it out for yourselves at http://www.populist.com/11.96.Edit.html. Posted by: And yet more BS | October 24, 2008, 3:10 pm 3:10 pm

President Bush and the Republicans actually did give tax cuts to working Americans “In 2001 and 2003, President George W. Bush proposed and Congress passed a series of tax cuts to reinvigorate the economy and reduce the government’s burden on workers’ paychecks. Because of opposition to these measures from some in Congress, they were implemented as temporary tax cuts.” The first thing Obama and the Democrats plan to do if elected is to let the Bush tax cuts expire. That means everybody making over $40,000 will see their federal taxes go up. Obama says he will then raise taxes on the upper 5% of Americans – or about 15 million of us. According to the IRS that bracket starts at about $130,080 and includes a whole lot of two earner families. He has also said that he plans to do away with the cap on FICA which means that everyone making over $102,000 will see their payroll taxes go up by 6.2% on anything they make over that. The people Obama plans to raise taxes on are our doctors, dentists, lawyers, pharmacists, and other working professionals and successful small business owners who will have to raise their rates to cover their increased taxes. Think about it everyone. Who really pays for those tax increases? He also says he will give a tax cut to 95% of Americans. How can he do that when over 40% of Americans pay no taxes in the first place? Taxing upper income people and then giving their money to people who didn’t pay anything to begin with is not a tax cut, it is the socialist policy of income redistribution. The problem is that the man is lying to us.

Al-Qaeda endorses McCain – Afraid of Obama!
“impetuous” Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain is the better choice because he is more likely to continue the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
“This requires presence of an impetuous American leader such as McCain, who pledged to continue the war till the last American soldier,” the message said. “Then, Al Qaeda will have to support McCain in the coming elections so that he continues the failing march of his predecessor, Bush.”

msa123, you just described the communist society exsisted in Russia, China and Cuba. Socialist has been proven to be not working in Russia, China, and Cuba. Socialist makes people equally poor by taking away of rewarding hard working and innovations. Helping poor by encouraging business to create jobs, not free handouts that create dependencies.

NH Voter & Tanya – You two are so biased in favor of Obama that you refuse to see the obvious!!! You two probably believe in his claims about tax cut and withdrawing the troops from Iraq immediately. If you are President, do you think you would be able to do these at the present time. Please don’t be idiots!!!!
OBAMA IS USING HIS GANDMOTHER’S ILLNESS FOR POLITICAL PURPOSES. WHY DID HE HAVE TO ANNOUNCE TO THE WORLD THAT HE WOULD VISIT HER DAYS BEFORE THE VISIT? IF YOU CARE ABOUT HER IMMINENT DEATH, THEN WHY NOT GO VISIT HER IMMEDIATELY!!! WHY DID YOU HAVE TO TELL EVERYONE ABOUT IT AND WAITED FOR DAYS LATER TO ALLOW THE NEWS TO CIRCULATE ABOUT YOUR VISIT. OBAMA IS A PHONY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Everyone will pay taxes. If you vote for McCain, you will pay a bit more due to him shifting the tax burden down to the middle class with his large tax cuts to the wealthy. If you happen to be wealthy, it is understandable how you might want to vote for what is best for your pocketbook rather than what is best for the country, but please don’t wave a flag when you do so.

Today you sat down with an interview with Obama that was free advertising for him. Did you request an interview with McCain? The wealthy pay an average of 15-18% on income taxes. The middle class pays 25-28%. McCain would like to lower that for the wealthy. That seems fair since they are his best buddies.

RE: Post by Boris I do a lot of business in China. Everyday China becomes more capitalist and the US becomes more socialist. For over two centuries immigrants – like most of our parents and grandparents – came to America because it offered everyone an opportunity for economic success. It looks like that opportunity in this century will be in China and India. I’m already moving my investments to China, studying Chinese, and looking for property there. If Obama is elected and goes through with his tax plans I will seriously consider moving there. I know the socialists/democrats will say good riddance to me but after they have run off of all the hard working tax-paying Capitalists who is going to work and pay for their free programs?

FROM THE LA TIMES…
More than 100 appointments to state posts — nearly 1 in 4 — went to campaign contributors or their relatives, sometimes without apparent regard to qualifications.
* Palin filled 16 state offices with appointees from families that donated $2,000 to $5,600 and were among her top political patrons.
* Several of Palin’s leading campaign donors received state-subsidized industrial development loans of up to $3.6 million for business ventures of questionable public value.
* Palin picked a donor to replace the public safety commissioner she fired. But the new top cop had to resign days later under an ethics cloud. And Palin drew a formal ethics complaint still pending against her and several aides for allegedly helping another donor and fundraiser land a state job.
Most new governors install friends and supporters in state jobs. But Alaska historians say some of Palin’s appointees were less qualified than those of her Republican and Democratic predecessors.
University of Alaska historian Steve Haycox said Palin has been a reformer. But he said she has a penchant for placing supporters, many of them ill-prepared, in high posts. He called it “cronyism” far beyond what previous governors have done and a contradiction of her high-minded philosophy.
Terrence Cole, an Alaska political historian, said Palin had in some cases shown “a disrespect for experience.”

I’m not currently making $250,000 a year. I could but the tax rates are already so high that it discourages me from trying to do so. To produce more income I would have to do so as an independent contractor and every additional dollar I make would be subject to 28% federal income tax, 8% state income tax, and 15.3% self-employment tax. If I invest my money I will have to pay 28% federal income tax, 8% state income tax, and 15% capital gains tax when I sell my investment. Either way that’s over 50% right off the top and then I pay a multitude of consumption taxes (excise taxes, personal property taxes, gasoline taxes, sales taxes, etc.) whenever I buy things with the 49% of MY MONEY they let me keep.

If your people don’t prosper then our country don’t prosper. This is what is happening right now, and no on can dispute this.
Please tell me of any time in the history of the United States, if a person making less money paid more taxes and a person making a higher salary pays less taxes. Contrary to popular believe, many of the people in this country receiving welfare checks, food stamps, and medicad are the wifes and children of our military who have unselfishly sacrificed themselves for our liberties and freedom. These are the same hard working people that are struggling to put food on there table. Because of this great nation under PIGS they would rather give it to someone thats already RICH. I’m a single black female in my 20s making a six figure salary under 250k. Guess what I pay a whole lot of taxes.
If I’m taxed at a 40% rate then Joe the Plumber can pay the same thing or more according to there salary. Joe the plumber can’t make any money if Billy Bob, Katherine, and John don’t have jobs to pay for his services. Paying taxes is part of the economic cycle. If you don’t have people with the money to pay for your services, it will be interesting to see how long you will make 250 or above.

As a Dem, I know we can prove to Republicans that we can run a country. We will include them as there are so many smart Republicans who understand business, and the business will be to rebuild America. We have to fix the military, fix the budget, fix the bridges and roads, repair foreign policy, rebuild the gulf coast, repair the schools, and reform Wall Steet. After this election, we all have to get to work, and we will survive. Democrats will not interfere in the free exercise of religion, the press, property rights, or gun laws. Let’s get off oil, build solar and wind, save our money, and do unselfish deeds. How bout that?

A lot of Americans are hard workers and over the last several years seen the standard of life go down. I also heard a lot about socialism. All Dems want is the Government to work for ordinary Americans as hard as they work for rich Americans. Isn’t that the way America should be? Ask any American worker if he or she thinks all should have health care and a quality education and I think you know the answer.

Legalize marijuana! Its relatively harmless and grows naturally. Alcohol is destructive and needs to be made illegal again. Alcohol has more in common with heroin than marijuana does! Its a shame that good people are denied good jobs because of the peace weed. But an alcoholic would be hired on the spot. Marijuana isnt addictive, and its impossible to overdose on it. Noone gets in fights or kills people from it, and most people wont even drive a car when on it because they have their senses, versus alcohol with impairs decision making. Lets look at it like this alcohol makes you do things you normally wouldnt do, and forget you even did it the next day. Marijuana NEVER has that effect. Oh…Im sorry, what was the subject?

I would all McCain and Palin supporters to expalin to me how McCain relates to every day working middle class families. It doesn’t matter the race and/or religion. How does a man who has six-seven different homes, a billionare barbie doll wife (who he left for while his wife was sick-real smooth moral guy), who never had to chose between two different bills to pay in one week while still putting for on the table for your family? And why you are trying to answer that yes we all know whose war experience so spare me on that. I’m not saying this man has not done for country but when was the last time he face REAL HARD ECONOMIC times that can best relate to you or I. Yes I’m an BO supporter but even I have questions about this man and his leadership and experience but if he’s willing to fight for hard working middle class americans who can better relate to him then I’m for it. McCain gives me no assurance that he’s for ME, he doesn’t relate, he doesn’t get it and he’s put his foot in his mouth too many times. Yes now of course race will play into this but hey in 2008-2009, if you are still hateful and racist, thats your own fault and you’re just a bitter person and don’t think your views will never change a nation of people who THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX! I’m a first time voter and I’m proud to be voting for BO and yes I’m a bi-racial female whose parents handed me everything but in the same token I had to work twice as hard to get where I am now.

In addition, Bush Jr. and his tax policy managed to take a balanced budget when he took office and still raise the deficit by $133 billion his first year. He has since set the record twice for the largest single year federal deficit increases in history, and that does not include this years fiasco.

Taxman Most of our economic problems have come about in the last two years. Democrats know that when the economy goes bad Americans incorrectly blame the President, when in actuality the President cannot spend, tax, or borrow a single dime without the approval of Congress. In 2006 the Democrats promised us change if we gave them control of Congress. We did and look at what has happened since. Are you better off now than you were two years ago?

There are lots of intelligent and lots of not so intelligent people on both sides, as there has been in every Presidential election in my life. I have a philosophy that when ignorant people disagree with I can just to ignore them, but when intelligent people disagree with me I feel that I have an obligation to try to understand why. You I can ignore. :-)

The other day on my way to lunch I passed a homeless guy with a sign that read “Vote Obama, I need the money.” I laughed.
Once in the restaurant my server had on an “Obama 08″ tie, again I laughed as he had given away his political preference–just imagine the coincidence.
When the bill came I decided not to tip the server and explained to him that I was exploring the Obama redistribution of wealth concept. He stood there in disbelief while I told him that I was going to redistribute his tip to someone who I deemed more in need–the homeless guy outside. The server angrily stormed from my sight.
I went outside, gave the homeless guy $10 and told him to thank the server inside as I ‘ve decided he could use the money more. The homeless guy was grateful.
At the end of my rather unscientific redistribution experiment I realized the homeless guy was grateful for the money he did not earn, but the waiter was pretty angry that I gave away the money he did earn even though the actual recipient needed money more.
I guess redistribution of wealth is an easier thing to swallow in concept than in practical application.
THANKS!!

Young people today are used to being given so much with very little effort or responsibility. It is no wonder that they expect the same from government. I saw a sign a few years on a church that read “Teach your children to accept their responsibilities before they demand their rights.” We have not done a very good job of that.

Obama’s lead is not surprising. The people who get free stuff will always support the politicians who promise to give them more free stuff. When discussing the American Revolution, a Scottish-born British lawyer and writer Alexander Fraser Tytler (1747-1813), was attributed as saying. “A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.” Americans reached that moment with FDR’s New Deal and have been tumbling down the path of self destruction every since. Today over half of the households in America receive a regular monthly check from the government and nearly half (44%) pay no income taxes at all. Just how long do you think we can continue on this path? Obama’s socialist policies will break the will or drive off hard-working tax-paying American Capitalists until there is no one left to pay for all of his socialist programs.

Posted by: professorj | October 24, 2008, 4:04 pm 4:04 pm

Redistribution of wealth is a fantasy. Everyone pays taxes. If you don’t want to pay for government spending, then stop working. Under McCain, you will wind up paying more than under Obama, since McCain would shift the tax burden down towards the middle class by giving the wealthy the largest tax cuts. Currently, the wealthy pay between 15-18% in income taxes, while the middle class pay between 25-28%.

Keeya, you do not offer jobs but 50% small business that make more than $250000 do offer 80% jobs. Obama’s tax will make small business cut jobs!
Obama said he wanted to spred wealth around by taking from the rich and give to the poor. That is Solcialist/Communist did in Russia and China. About 50% small bussiness make more than $250000.00 and they offers more than 50% jobs. If you punish them then they have to cut job. The jobs is what poor people need. A few hundreds handouts (Tax credit/Welfare) do not help the poor live a good life.

Last week I was talking with a friend who has a small business that employs about 20 people. He is pretty sure that times will be tough next year. He said that if McCain is elected he thinks things will turn around next year so he will try to hang on. However he believes that if Obama is elected his taxes will go up and his business will go down to the point where he will probably have to lay off about half his people. Then he made the remark that he would start with those employees with Obama stickers on their cars because they helped cause it. Many small business owners and professionals are very concerned about Obama’s tax and spend policies and making plans to cut back if he is elected. I can’t believe that so many workers are willing to vote themselves out of a job.

Speaking of wealthy, even they can sometimes put country over their own pocketbook, as Lynn Forrester de Rothschild recently said:
“It’s going to be, What is in the best interest of all Americans? And I think if history is our guide, we’ve had stronger economies, more wealth creation, under Democratic presidents than we have under Republican presidents. So I don’t understand why all my capitalist friends aren’t Democrats.”

I might even be able to finally provide health insurance for my employees which I cannot currently afford to do.

I am not voting for Obama because of his lack of experience, his liberal “tax and spend” voting record and I am afraid that if he is elected he will surround himself with radicals — as he seems to have done in the past. However these arguments about Obama’s birth and religion are absurd and were debunked months ago. His birth certificate has been posted upon the web and verified by the State of Hawaii. He has publicly stated his faith many times and was a member of a racist Afro-centrist Christian Church for more than 20 years before he decided he had better disavow his racist America-hating mentor/pastor in order to get elected. Even if he was a Muslim in his youth Christians should be shouting halleluiah at his conversion. On the other hand, if that is the case, Muslims will have to issue a fatwa.

McCain’s campaign can be basically be boiled down to gimmicks . “Mavericks”, “reformers”,”hockey mom”, “he pals around with terrorists”, “he’s a socialist”, “Joe Sixpack”, “Joe the Plumber”, “white flag of surrender”, “they’ll test him but not me”, etc, etc. They have all fallen flat for two basic reasons: 1- none have addressed the real concerns of Americans in this election- their angst about the economy and their immediate future and 2- they fail to have good substantive foundations. The “hockey mom reformer” has been looked shockingly ignorant of national issues at times, along with other embarrassments such as being found to have “abused power” in Alaska and spending $ 150,000 on clothing for the campaign. “Palling with terrorists” is a totally disingenuous exaggeration of a past relationship. “Socialist” is nothing more than a shrill cry from the far right. And “Joe the Plumber” looks like a total contrivance – both in the truth of what Joe’s situation really is and what it means for the economic well-being of middle class people…
In sum, McCain’s gimmicks have worked only in motivating a hard-core base of Republicans that were likely to go his way anyhow, but they’ve also managed to alienate a segment of moderate voters that could have conceivably been his had he run a more upstanding and dignified campaign. Instead, we can only hope that the American people on Nov 4 firmly reject his 3 ring circus campaign of gimmicks and punish him for not being true to his alleged roots of moderation, dignity, truthfulness, and open-mindedness that were supposed to be his calling cards prior to this election.

John McCain supports supplementing the current Social Security system with personal accounts – but not as a substitute for addressing benefit promises that cannot be kept. John McCain will reach across the aisle to address these challenges, but if the Democrats do not act, he will.

We find that the overwhelming majority of those small-business owners would see no increase, because they earn too little to be affected.

“Obama and the Tax Tipping Point How long before taxpayers are pushed too far? A core group of Obama enthusiasts — those educated professionals who applaud the “fairness” of their candidate’s tax plans — will soon see their $100,000-$150,000 incomes targeted. As entitlements expand and a self-interested majority votes, the higher tax brackets will kick in at lower levels down the ladder, all the way to households with a $75,000 income. Calculating how far society’s top earners can be pushed before they stop (or cut back on) producing is difficult. But the incentives are easy to see. Voters who benefit from government programs will push for higher tax rates on higher earners — at least until those who power the economy and create jobs and wealth stop working, stop investing, or move out of the country. The sequence is always the same. High-tax, big-spending policies force the economy to lose momentum. Then growth in government spending outstrips revenues. Fiscal and trade deficits soar. Public debt, excessive taxation and unemployment follow. The central bank tries to solve the problem by printing money. International competitiveness is lost and the currency depreciates. The system stagnates. And then a frightened electorate returns conservatives to power. The economic tides will not stand still while Washington experiments with European-type social democracy, even though the dollar’s role as the global reserve currency will buy some time. Our trademark competitive advantage will be lost, and once lost, it will be hard to regain. There are too many emerging economies focused on prosperity and not redistribution for the U.S. to easily recapture its role of global economic leader. Tomorrow’s children may come to question why their parents sold their birthright for a mess of “fairness” — whatever that will signify when jobs are scarce and American opportunity is no longer the envy of the world.” Written by Mr. Lerrick on Wall Street Journal. Mr. Lerrick is a professor of economics at Carnegie Mellon University and a visiting scholar at the American Enterprise Institute.

Obama is the second largest recipient of money from Fannie Mae. They refused to regulate bad loan practice proposed by McCain in 2005. Obama also proposed Global Poverty Tax of 50 Billion Dollars per year to spread your money to the corrupted UN. He also spread your money to his wife’s employer who doubled her salary to &300,000.00. SEN. JOHN McCAIN: Well, I’m much more like Ronald Reagan, actually, than the present hierarchy of our party. I’m for tax cuts, but I’m for working Americans. Governor Bush wants to give 38 percent of his tax cuts to the wealthiest 1 percent. I want to give it to working families.

Trickle down taxation does not work.. has not worked, and trying it over and over again is more akin to beating your head against a brick wall and expecting the wall to eventually become soft.
Former fed chairman Volker, probably the last great economic genius, supports Obamas tax plan and has become one of his advisors. Greenspan has said he doesn’t support McCains tax cuts.
Why? Why did the government decide to send out ‘stimulus’ checks? To put money in the hands of consumers. Obamas plan would do exactly the same thing, but for a longer and more sustained period. By giving tax cuts to the low and middle class, more capital will be injected into the economy, which will increase sales on necessities and consumer goods. Increased sales means more profit for owners, and incentives to create more jobs. Combined with his health plan, which will inject another estimated $140 billion annually in savings to employers providing health insurance coverave, not to mention the increased revenue due to the increase in number of insured patients, this will do far more good to get our economy back on track than McCains tried and failed trickle down tax policy, or his deregulation and shifting workers to private health insurance. McCains tax plan, like his health plan simply favors the wealthy and does little for the low and middle class who would wind up worse off and less insured.

I want to start off by saying that I make considerably less than $250k line that has been talked about. My problem is…why should I believe that Barack Obama will give us a tax cut when he has NEVER supported tax cuts in his entire political career? Even if he did do something he never did before and give the tax cut he proposes, I would much rather keep my job than get a few hundred dollars more on my refund (and why is my “hard earned” money being given as a tax credit check to the welfare class that don’t pay taxes and refuse to get a job). Finally, Obama’s tax hikes on businesses making 250K or more will be IMMEDIATELY transferred to the costumer which means more money comes out of my “middle class” pocket. I can see more businesses closing and more people losing jobs with this strategy. To me… Obama’s tax plan sounds terrible and appears to be socialistic with an agenda of taking care of welfare recipients (not surprisingly a group that is strongly represented by minorities). I think Obama’s plan will further push the American economy toward a depression.
I am not an economic guru… so I am open to hearing someone make sense or a logical argument against how I am seeing Obama’s plan. To me… the capitalistic system seems the best because it encourages new businesses. I think the problem was… we just had a bunch of greedy idiots running the government. When I say government…I am talking about George W. Bush and “democratic controlled” Congress (with both republicans and democrats bearing the responsibility for this disastrous mess we are in).

Cheersprofessorj, Hey immigrant fool, it is with much regret that we have invited you into our country and you would be so disrespectful of our ways. Please exit our country in the same manner that you entered, if you cannot learn to show repect for those who have allowed you to live amongst us. If I knew arabic I would explain my words more clearly to you, perhaps your master professorj will translate the meaning to you? I have nothing against immigrants unless they wish to show disrespect to the country which has allowed them to be free.

Continued deficit spending over a sustained period leads to economic depression. What does the National Bureau of Economic Research have to say about Bushes tax policy?
“Never in the history of modern economics has a large industrial country run persistent current account deficits of the magnitude posted by the U.S. since 2000.”
And their analysis if we continue along the same path?
“A 21-to-28 percent depreciation in the value of the trade-weighted dollar and a considerable slowdown of the American economy. And that may be a “best case” scenario”.
http://www.nber.org/digest/mar06/w11541.html
And how does the Wall Street Journal see McCains tax plan?
“The McCain plan represents Bush economics on steroids. It has $3.4 trillion more in tax cuts than President Bush is proposing, largely directed at corporations and the most affluent. Sen. McCain would implement these cuts without proposing any meaningful steps to simplify taxes or eliminate distortions and loopholes. In addition, Sen. McCain has floated over $1 trillion in new spending increases but barely any specific spending cuts.
Do not take the critics’ word for it. Go look at the plans for yourself at http://www.barackobama.com/taxes. Get the facts and you will see the real priorities at stake in this election. America cannot afford another eight years like these”.

I am not convinced that Obama’s tax increase from 36% to 39% (a total 3% increase) will cause all the hoop-la the Obama haters are conjuring up. An employer (or average citizen for that matter) that earns $250K/year will have a $7,500.00/year tax increase. Will $7,500.00 cause “massive’ lay-offs? Only hatred and envy from those that will suffer from the loss of their superiority complex would such a thing.

What has happened to the media in this country?? Back in the day, you young whipper snappers, we would have had the media interviewing ANYONE that even remotely knew the presidential candidates. Now, seems like the media is trying to discourage contact with the friends and families of the candidates. Hell, I can’t believe that the other presidential candidates (like good ole Ralph and that nutty Bob Barr) weren’t even allowed to participate in the debates. What is this country coming to…hell, I miss Mayberry!!

Berg has his grandma on tape saying she was in the delivery room in Mombasa Kenya, Coast Hospital
But he has two big problems, the Kenyan birthplace being only part of it…
He also is an Indonesian citizen. So he was born in Kenya, to a mother too young to have alone conferred US citizenship upon Obama as the sole American parent birthing in a foreign location. So that is why he has a Kenyan citizenship. Then he moved to Hawaii for a few years but never emigrated, so he was an illegal alien. Then he was adopted by Lolo Soetoro and became an Indonesian citizen because dual citizenship is not allowed. Then he moved back to the US but never emigrated so he’s still an illegal alien.
The reason he will not release his transcripts is because they probably state that he was a foreign student and got foreign student aid.

Therefore is his grandmother really ill or is it just to get sympathy from voters to have voters switch from republican to democrat. I don’t trust him and in his speech you can easily tell that he will be a dictator. That’s why Iran, Hamas and other world leader’s like him. They have dictatorship in their country. Nik: There is no reason to raise taxes at all. A person making $250,000 pays higher taxes than a person making $150,000 so why would Obama want to raise higher taxes. What is he going to use the money for? We are paying enought tax now and he should keep taxes the way they are like McCain said. No tax increase. I think Obama failed in mathematics. And he keeps talking about the economy? What’s wrong with the economy? Nothing. People are the cause of their own mistakes in biting off more than they can chew buying a condo they cannot afford or a house, stop paying and causing the banks to foreclose. Banks are at fault for giving these young people a mortgage with only 5% or no money down. Its the majority of these young people that want to live like the rich with a beer pocket.

Obama’s Tax Plan is to spread your hard earned money around to the people of his chosen such as voting fraud organization ACORN and his wife’s hospital that doubled her salary in return. McCain’s tax plan spreads the opportunities around. Socialist has been proven to be not working in Russia, China, and Cuba. Socialist makes people equally poor by taking away of rewarding hard working and innovations. Helping poor by encouraging business to create jobs, not free handouts that create dependencies. National health care will have people see doctors with minor discomfort and overwhelm the health care system. Really sick people has to wait for a long time for critical care and may be fatal in waiting, all at the cost of 50% tax rate. Wake up Americans! Elect McCain/Palin who will stop Obama and Dems to force banks to lend Trillions of your money to the people who can not afford it and caused the current economic slow down. McCain/Palin will promote jobs and energy independence.

Everyone pays taxes. If you don’t want to pay taxes, then stop working. If you want to pay a little more in taxes, then vote McCain since he will shift the tax burden down towards the middle class with his large tax cuts for the wealthy, and your tax cut will be less because of it. If on the other hand you are one of the 5% in this country who are wealthy, feel free to vote what is best for your pocketbook instead of what is best for the country.. but don’t try waving your flag while doing so!
FYI: The wealthy pay an average of 15-18% in income taxes, while the middle class pay 25-28%. Apparently, McCain supporters think that is just fine, and would like to see the wealthy pay even less.

Angie: Get a grip. Whatever the government wants to do with the tax money there’s nothing you can do about it. They can do as they please just like you do with your money. McCain is right for the government to buy up all the foreclosures and lower the payments for the buyers so they can live in them. I agree to that. ObamaOsama doesn’t even have a plan for the foreclosures. All he is thinking about is raising taxes when he doesn’t have to. And who is he giving the extra tax money to. His family in Kenya?

He is suppose to be so smart graduating from Harvard let him figure it out. In my opinion he doesn’t know how. Biden will be running the country while Obama is taking lessons from Powell about foreign policy. It is this stupid generation of young people that don’t know which way the wind is blowing that will vote for Obama. They have no common sense in knowing what is best for the country but they know how to take drugs and booze like Obama did in college.

Mack: The rich are not responsible for the poor. Palin was a very aggressive women who was determine to make it in the political field. So was McCain. Palin earned her money. You have to set goals in your life to make that kind of money. Sometimes people set their goals but something interrupts it and they can’t succeed. However, I believe that whoever is president he should get involved with the high payments of Medicare and lower that amount from $98 to $75 with no increases in the future. That would help a lot of people and add $23.00 more to their check. But the only one who mentioned social security was McCain who stated he wants to protect SS. Obama is no Bill Clinton and it will take Bill Clinton to help him in the white house.

George,
WHY HAVE YOU FAIL TO REPORT THIS!!! THIS AFFECTS 300 MILLION AMERICANS AND OUR U.S. CONSTITUTION!!!
Pennsylvania Democrat Philip J. Berg, who filed a lawsuit demanding Sen. Barack Obama present proof of his American citizenship, now says that by failing to respond Obama has legally “admitted” to the lawsuit’s accusations, including the charge that the Democratic candidate was born in Mombosa, Kenya.
As WND reported, Berg filed suit in U.S. District Court in August, alleging Obama is not a natural-born citizen and is thus ineligible to serve as president of the United States. Though Obama has posted an image of a Hawaii birth certificate online, Berg demands that the court verify the original document, which the Obama campaign has not provided.
Now Berg cites Rule 36 of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, which states that unless the accused party provides written answer or objection to charges within 30 days, the accused legally admits the matter.
Since Obama has only filed motions to dismiss and has not actually answered the charges in the lawsuit, Berg claims, according to Rule 36, Obama has legally admitted he is not a natural-born citizen.
Now Berg is asking the court for a formal declaration of Obama’s admission and asking the Democratic National Committee for another presidential candidate.
In a statement released today, Berg argues that he filed Requests for Admissions on Sept. 15, meaning Obama had until Oct. 15 to answer or face the consequences of Rule 36.
“Obama and the DNC ‘admitted,’ by way of failure to timely respond to Requests for Admissions, all of the numerous specific requests in the Federal lawsuit,” Berg’s statement reads. “Obama is ‘not qualified’ to be president and therefore Obama must immediately withdraw his candidacy for president and the DNC shall substitute a qualified candidate.”

Posted by: Patrick | October 24, 2008, 10:41 pm 10:41 pm

I am a registered Democrat and am not proud of how the party with the help of the mainstream media has attacked Mrs. Palin. The latest is the false statements made by Drew Griffin on CNN when he ambushed her with a demeaning question. All along the goal was to attack her because she is a major threat, which is fine except for it is too personal. If it was on issues I would not have an problem. None of the mainstream media has stood up and said that this is not right. Logic indicates that she can not be as dumb as the media would have you believe. She is the Governor of a state and is the only candidate with executive experience. America should be ashame of the media and if not careful will be controlled by the media’s bias.

Gov Palin is the most popular Governor in US history with 95% approval rating. She held open betting to open up competition for oil companies to compete for a contract without closed door bribes. She is not running for Constitution Schoolar’s job. She is a doer, not a talkers in Washington. Shame on the lib media. They should be fired. Don’t buy their newspapers.

Not every conservatives are white. I am colored but I knew Nobama and all his racist friends (Wright, and Louis Farrakhan)will bring down this great nation no any terrorist could ever dread of. Nobama called his own grandma the typical white forks and that is how he thinks of all the whites. In his book and 1995 speech he wanted pay back time for him and his racist friends.
He thinks American is a down right mean country!

Patrick,
What in the world are you talking about?! I read the transcript of Drew Griffin interview in its entirety. It was an absolute puff piece. Faux news asked more difficult questions. The woman can’t speak in a coherent sentence.
From the very beginning, I was outraged at Palin’s pit bull comment given during her convention speech. We have a pet pit bull. Our dog is much prettier than Palin (even without lipstick), has a much nicer personality, and is a hell of a lot more intelligent!

Do you think anyone dare to walk 1 mile in Harlem, NY or Chicago south side after dark? Hope you know who lives there. Those are poor minority area. It’s the poverty and lack of education that create hatred. The way to help the poor is to create jobs by cutting taxes on business, not handouts that do not offer good lifes.

Fred, Drew Griffin admitted today that he misquoted the article. The article was in the National Review and Drew Griffin used part of a sentence that criticizing the media and made it sound like the article was critizing Mrs. Palin. They most likely removed it from the transcript you read because the National Review called them on it.

With mccain those problems will only get worse. It is totally different here, many hate black’s just because they are black. And I do mean HATE.

“Alabama for Obama” – The attorney in questioned is a life long Democrat, this has nothing to do with politics, it’s about the protection of the U.S.Constitution.
“Fred” – Read my comments, denial is your biggest fear!! You have provided “nothing” to support your claim, validate your comment, if you can. McCain by the way has provided his medical records (his DNA included), college records, birth certificate showing the “place” of birth and not “registry” of birth,to the Media and Federal Election Commission. To this date,Mr. Obama has fail to provide his medical records, college records, and placed a document showing a “registry” of birth in his website that Forensic Document experts determine to be ‘fake’.
This all can be resolved quickly by Mr. Obama giving out this information that Mr. McCain has already provided. However since you did not go to the U.S.District Website you don’t know this. Mr. Obama a/k/a Barry Soetoro has instead (8) attorney’s trying to hide this information from “YOU” a voter who has no “clue” what’s going on and just to damn lazy to find out!!! The lawsuit in Hawaii required his presents in order to prevent any information from being release before being heard in Federal Court. There are now several more lawsuit in progress from some of his own supporters who now have questioned his ID, only because of his paternal grandmother,Sarah Onyango Obama(his fathers mother)who witnessed by being present and signing his birth document as a witness to his birh in Mombasa,Kenya. You must understand that his grandmother was very proud and stating to everyone in public that her grandson will be President of the United States, without realizing what her comment has done, a BBC reporter picked up on this report. This is the matter currently being investigated, but most importantly the Attorney in questioned is expecting a decison from the U.S.District Court Judge before the November 4th elections. We can talk more about this if you like when the court case is closed!

Posted by: Vic | October 25, 2008, 12:23 am 12:23 am

Actually, it was included and it was pretty innocuous. Just shows Griffin’s total lack of preparation. He was doing everything he could to make Palin look good and still failed. If he really wanted to challenge her he could have brought up Chris Buckley’s comments or David Brooks’ or a numbers of others.

I’m assuming that you are a young kid trying to make a point and did not bother to go look at the U.S.District website because you are not use to seeking out “facts”. If you are in college then this is something you must do in order to obtain a PhD, you cannot defend your research based on hearsay. Let me bring it down to your level, instead of trying to be a Dr. McCoy, think more like Mr. Spock, think logically. Why would someone try so hard to hide something that is very simple to reveal, and would prove “everyone” wrong by doing this!!!

This election is long over and the crap that ABC and CNN push that there is still any chance that Obam will win is based in their own ratings. They’ve wanted Obama from the beginging and that what we will get. Now I support Obama over McCain but I do think there is a problem that CNN is picking the winner before the contest starts and the rest are followers. America this time it will serve you well but when they picked Bush you now know the outcome. Unless you are going to claim credit for that one without following the 24 hours channel of doome.

I believe, America desperately wants to vote democrats this year. What I am really surprised with the facts that despite the findings that:
1. Obama sat in the pews listening to Rev. Wright, ultimately threw his mentor Pastor under the bus for political expediency, and lied about this relationship
2. Bill Ayres helped Obama launch his political campaign and even co-wrote his book, and Obama lied gain on this one too
3. Indicted Rezko and he had financial relationship and Obama lied about this
4. Obama’ s birth in the US is so debatable and he has remained silent on it
5. Obama was initially raised as a Muslim and that’s why has received immense support from the Muslim countries
6. Obama is very likely to push the US in another war against Pakistan (as he has claimed) which in fact is a nuclear armed nation and one of the longstanding US allies (this could be more expensive to the US)
7. Obama wants a tax increase in an economy that is going towards the precipice
8. Obama aims at spreading the wealth, which is more a socialist idea and is very prone to discourage people to become really wealthy
9. Obama’s race was one of the major factors to win him the primaries
10. Obama-ACORN is engaged in voter fraud
11. Obama was on e of the major protectors of Freddie-Fannie wrongdoings
12. Obama is the least experienced candidate among all the four runnig for the office
13. Obama has nothing in his achievement other than write (?) and talk
and many others , America wants to vote him. God bless America. My your peril be denied.

Don’t forget Bradley’effect. In recently 2008 Democratic primary in New Hampshire the opinion polls showed Obama has led his rival by 11% on voting day. But he eventually lost by 2% to Hillary Clinton. If Obama’leads are less than 11% McCain will win this thing.

Posted by: chester burns | October 25, 2008, 3:00 am 3:00 am

woman4palin: I agree – a woman shouldn’t have any choice over whether she has a baby or not. If she’s stupid enough to fall pregnant, she should be forced to have the baby. It isn’t only her choice – it’s the choice of us all. After she has the baby, THEN it’s her problem. She can get herself two jobs and raise it herself, or adopt it out and hope that some lunatic doesn’t torture the child ’till it’s nine years old, murder it then toss it into the freezer. Our society DOESN’T CARE about the baby after it is born. Then it’s private business. But – when it’s in the womb – it’s public business. Right, woman4palin?

Vic, you are an ignorant dork. You appear to think the Annenbergs are some sort of Marxist group. They are an established conservative family who are engaged in a wide variety of philanthropic and public service activities. The patriarch of the family, multi billionaire Walter Annenberg, is the guy who gave away money to do a lot of this stuff before his death in 2002. He was active in Republican politics and was Nixon’s Ambassador to the Court of St. James. That’s the UK for all you idiots out there. He put up the money to start the Annenberg School of Communications at the University of Pennsylvania, where he had attended the Wharton School of business. Pretending that Annenberg money is the sign of commie influence is one of the seven signs of mental illness. You, my friend, are either delusional or a lying sack of stuff. Why don’t you shut your ignorant mouth so people have to guess what a brainwashed dweeb you are?

George Stephanopoulos, the Rush Limbaugh of the left. He was Bill Clinton’s advisor. Is there anyone dumb enough to think he’s an unbiased reporter? I don’t listen to Rush or George. I’m trying to find a journalist, not a party mouth piece.

Posted by: Oonogil | October 25, 2008, 10:22 am 10:22 am

Oonogli, I agree. I had respect in the past for George, but during this election have come to see his bias. I quit watching his show after the round table attacked McCain for calling for Mr. Cox to be fired. At that point they all called for Obama to win. It is unfortunate for all American’s that we cannot get the unbiased stories from the media. I try to find the truth between the lines, but it is not easy. It may get worst if one party get total control. I believe they will try to make laws to silent all opposing views. Watch after the election, the Obama media will have story to try to make them look unbias. A little late!!

I can’t wait for your states to become BLUE just like me BLUE LIBERAL DEMOCRATIC RUN state of Massachusetts. It is about time you spread the wealth and start providing for your own residents instead of sending them to Massachusetts to carry the burden of Housing and Welfare for the less fortunate just because we have such lenient and easy qualifications. With an Obama presidency I know you will all have to provide for the less fortunate and spread your wealth. Now may-be Florida and New York will take those signs down in their bus statons telling people to move to Mass. for our housing and benefits.( This is a fact, known by our Welfare and Housing dept.) I know I’m going to put a sign up at my bus station letting them know your states have turned BLUE and are providing the the same housing and wonderful programs as Mass. As for his judgment, first he picks an unqualified running mate Palin, whom they are now they are calling ‘rogue’. Sen. Barack Obama, the Democratic nominee, brings far more promise to the office. In a time of grave economic crisis, he displays thoughtful analysis, enlists wise counsel and operates with a cool, steady hand. The same cannot be said of Sen. McCain.
Since his early acknowledgement that economic policy is not his strong suit, Sen. McCain has stumbled and fumbled badly in dealing with the accelerating crisis as it emerged. He declared that “the fundamentals of our economy are strong” at 9 a.m. one day and by 11 a.m. was describing an economy in crisis. He is both a longtime advocate of less market regulation and a supporter of the huge taxpayer-funded Wall Street bailout. His behavior in this crisis — erratic is a kind description — shows him to be ill-equipped to lead the essential effort of reining in a runaway financial system and setting an anxious nation on course to economic recovery.

I listened with interest Cookie Roberts analysis of Sarah Palin. My sense is that there is a lack of understanding how Sarah is perceived by the average voter.
Palin comes off as a zealot and until the word Diva was used yesterday, a reasonable description.
The bigger problem for Mc Cain and Palin is they failed to speak to the voter about what they are going to do, but instead focused on how bad Obama is. The tactic of fear and negative campaigning or speaking about very narrow issues does not broaden the base.
The notion that Palin was treated poorly is foolish. Out of the box she showed an inability to answer even basic questions or communicate clearly.
Wrong campaign, message, and Sarah Palin is not in the same league as Tom Ridge, Romney or a whole host of others.
George Will’s fixation with the narrow base is myopic and Peggy Noonan assessment is most accurate.

Reason:
“At this time last year, Bush averaged about 1.5 points better than Kerry in the Popular Vote, according to Real Clear Politics which averages EVERY poll. At this moment, Obama averaging 7.5 over McCain.”
You may have a reason but you’ve got the wrong math.
The correct math is:
7.5% – (Bradley Effect) = 7.5% – 6% = 1.5%
