Michigan Falls off the Battlefield

ABC News’ David Chalian Reports: John McCain’s path to the 270 electoral votes he must secure in order to win the White House may have just gotten a little bit harder.  ABC News can confirm a Politico report that the McCain campaign is pulling the plug on trying to flip the state of Michigan from Blue to Red and locking up those key 17 electoral votes.  According to Republicans familiar with the McCain campaign’s plans in the Wolverine State, McCain has canceled a planned event in the state and is expected to halt his television advertising there.

Although McCain’s move does not deliver a net gain of electoral votes into Obama’s column, the significance of taking the populous state off the battlefield cannot be overstated.

A senior McCain adviser, however, played down the significance of the move by stating that Michigan was more about spreading the field of play on Obama rather than a needed state for their campaign to get the needed 270 electoral votes.

As the general election began to take shape in early summer, McCain campaign aides saw Michigan, Pennsylvania, and New Hampshire as their best opportunities to take some states that John Kerry won in 2004 and place them in the GOP column.  Losing one of those key targets of opportunity while still having to defend a slew of Red states such as Colorado, Virginia, North Carolina, Ohio, Florida, and Indiana is a tough blow to the McCain campaign as it seeks to maintain viable paths to 270 electoral votes.

However, Wisconsin – with its 10 electoral votes – is a Midwestern state that has gone Democratic in the last few presidential elections, but now is proving to have some staying power as a battleground state where both campaigns appear fully engaged.

Michigan’s economy has been struggling for longer and more severely than any other state in the union.  According to recent polls, the ongoing financial crisis dominating the news and the campaign trail appears to be working in Sen. Obama’s favor.

"John McCain has outperformed anybody that the Republicans could have nominated," said Bill Ballenger, the editor of "Inside Michigan Politics," a non-partisan political newsletter. But "things have not gone well for him here since the Wall Street debacle. He has lost ground. This Wall Street meltdown has exacerbated people’s anxiety about the economy and it makes it even more impossible for the Republican nominee, whoever it might be."

"We’re going to work hard every day to win here and help turn around an economy that has been devastated by job losses during the past eight years of George Bush policies that John McCain wants to continue," senior Obama adviser Robert Gibbs tells ABC News.

You may hear that loud sigh of relief in that statement as the Obama campaign can now start to increasing resources to protect other potentially vulnerable Democratic turf now that Michigan appears to be wiped off the battleground state map.  It was probably an extra sweet bit of news for the campaign since it arrived as Sen. Obama was campaigning in Michigan.

ABC News’ Teddy Davis and John Berman contributed to this report.

Yeah, no more McCain ads in MI!! I’m so relieved. Now, I can start watching network TV again without having to hear from him. Now, if only the RNC would pull their ads, my happiness would be complete.

Yes! Nice work Michigan. But we still have work to do. Next let’s take WI, PA, & NH off the battleground map, and we’ll be sittin’ pretty. The Republicans have had their chance and did nothing but damage this great country. Now it’s up to us to fix their mess.

Posted by: dem in chicago | October 2, 2008, 3:28 pm 3:28 pm

Why does the McCain camp always need to lie. They say they are dropping out to spread the field on Obama. It is Obama who has spread the field on them sense this all began. It is actually one of the things that made Obama’s strategy different then most. Question, why do all Republicans lie?

Posted by: jen | October 2, 2008, 3:29 pm 3:29 pm

Virginia will be next. Polls and folks here are shifting to Obama.

Posted by: nubiangent08 | October 2, 2008, 3:31 pm 3:31 pm

I think this has to do with Ohio and Florida moving towards Obama. The McCain camp has realized that they have to defend those 2 states in order to win this thing.

NH heading that way quickly too.

Mccain can you pull out of Pa too? Im so tired of watching Tv and having one of your ads that are complete LIES come on MCCAIN PA DOES NOT WANT YOU! GET OUT OF MY STATE AND STAY OUT!

Posted by: angie | October 2, 2008, 3:33 pm 3:33 pm

Too bad most people in Michigan, including my brother, are too stupid to realize the the libs and Obama advisors are the ones that caused this mess in the first place!

Posted by: Jen | October 2, 2008, 3:35 pm 3:35 pm

I think McCain should “suspend” his campaign yet again.
Heck, why did he “un”suspend it in the first place? The last I checked, the crisis had not been resolved.

Dont forget NC. We have been gaining in this state for several months now. At one point Obama was down 18 points, he is now up by 2. We can turn North Carolina blue as well as our neighbor to the north Virginia. It will be the beginning of the end of the republican stronghold on the south. Go Obama!

Posted by: roberincharlotte | October 2, 2008, 3:36 pm 3:36 pm

I think that before November 4th the whole United States will be moving towards Obama, after all you can only take so much drama….

Posted by: beck | October 2, 2008, 3:37 pm 3:37 pm

Wow, Michigan, the state where republicans have made a bastion of jobs and environmental pristine. So Mc Cain dumps them after trying to use them the same ay he’s trying to use the rest of the nation to fulfill his egotistical legacy. Then he will drop dead of old age or cancer and leave the government in the hands of the Palin’s. For Michigan anyway, thank God its over. “Change is come” OBAMA 08’

Posted by: Joe_mainstreet | October 2, 2008, 3:38 pm 3:38 pm

This is truely exciting. Obama can afford to lose Florida or Ohio as he has gained several states from the republicans and more to come. I do think in the end though he will win them both, but there is a bit of a cushion. NO MORE DRAMA VOTE FOR OBAMA!

Posted by: roberincharlotte | October 2, 2008, 3:39 pm 3:39 pm

I think that the Ohio/Florida situation is right on target too.
Chances were slim he would win here. Also very slim in Wisconsin or PA at this point.

McCain and Palin represent what this country needs to continue to be “one Nation Under God” Do we underestimate HIM??

Posted by: Rhonda | October 2, 2008, 3:39 pm 3:39 pm

While you’re at it, you might as well pull out of Colorado too. The last 6 polls have you losing the state and your stupid ads aren’t going to change anything. Leave us alone old man.

Posted by: Jeremy | October 2, 2008, 3:39 pm 3:39 pm

Again, McCain is acting as if Obama’s strategy is his own. McCain and team are running around in circles and they don’t have a clue what to do anymore.

Posted by: The Unshrub | October 2, 2008, 3:40 pm 3:40 pm

As MI is taken off the map, look for ND, NE, WV, and MT to be added to the battleground map in the next few weeks. Especially MT, I’ve been shocked that Obama hasn’t been closer there and as things fall apart for the Republicans nationally, those polls should swing blue soon.
Keep and eye on Georgia as well, Obama has cut McCains lead by more then half in the last few weeks and now is threatening to bring the state with in the margin of error.

Posted by: blakec | October 2, 2008, 3:41 pm 3:41 pm

YAY for Georgia. You can do it, turn blue. Virginia, North Carolina and Georgia. The south will rise again and be counted. Go Obama/Biden. NO MORE DRAMA VOTE FOR OBAMA!

Posted by: roberincharlotte | October 2, 2008, 3:43 pm 3:43 pm

Good! Being from North Carolina I can tell you that this state is no longer red either. McCain is going to have to work hard to win it by spending time and money here, something he has not done to date. He hasn’t even visited this state in weeks while Obama has been here several times and as recently as last week. Libby Dole, the Bush lackey, is on her way out too. Especially, after trying to pander to voters by voting against the rescue (bailout) bill. Kay Hagan will win.

Posted by: indy_voter | October 2, 2008, 3:44 pm 3:44 pm

PLEASE do the same here in Florida, McCain! These ads are horrible! (Although the SNL skit where McCain approves everything no matter how outrageous has made me laugh a bit whenever I see the negative Obama ads)

Posted by: allie | October 2, 2008, 3:47 pm 3:47 pm

indy_voter: I agree. This state is not feeling very red. hagen is trompping Dole and Obama has made this state a priority. With the recent failure of Wachovia and the state having the 10th highest unemployment rate in the nation we are hurting. The days of republicans winning without trying here are over.

Posted by: roberincharlotte | October 2, 2008, 3:48 pm 3:48 pm

Let’s keep the momentum going. C’mon Ohio, Virginia, Florida, the water is fine and there is room for everyone that wants real change, not more of the McSame.

If I didn’t know better and I am sure someone will attempt to convince me that I don’t know better. I would swear the RNC is deliberatly throwing this election. At least they are going to let John save face and blame it all on Sarah. How’s that two party system working for you America! No diffference between them, just a different package with a different wrapper.

I guess the only good thing about Texas being a lock “Red” state is we don’t have to watch any political advertismenets from any candidate. Obamo considers Texas unwinable, and McSame sees it as a lock. Austin will overwhelmingly vote Obama, but Dallas, Houston will be McCain. Sorry all you swing states. I had enough in Colorado last week when I saw 6 commercials back to back from Obama/McCain. Unbearable!!!!

Posted by: Brian | October 2, 2008, 3:51 pm 3:51 pm

I’m not buying it and think its a ploy by McCain. He did the same thing supposedly suspending his campaing but ads were still running where I live.I do think the race is close and if Obama wins it will be the battleground states that push us over the top.I don’t see myself voting Republican again any time soon. Obama ’08/’12

Posted by: Didi | October 2, 2008, 3:51 pm 3:51 pm

Saw Obama at the ralley this morning. He has it all (except a boat anchor like Palin). The crowd was the biggest I have ever seen in this “Republican” town.

Posted by: Jenny Rome Ga | October 2, 2008, 3:53 pm 3:53 pm

Didn’t Obama just pull out of two or three states a couple of weeks ago? Red states that the thought he might win, but then realized his chances were not good?
Same thing here, Michigan has been a blue state. Close for awhile, but now falling into the norm.

Posted by: SandyB | October 2, 2008, 3:54 pm 3:54 pm

I am delighted by this news, but Obama cannot afford to lose Ohio or Florida. Polls can be wrong — particularly if people are giving pollsters false answers, as I have seen some McCain supporters claim they have done on other blogs. And it’s another month before the election — anything can happen.
So Obama supporters, keep making the contributions you can afford, volunteer, help folks go to the polls.
This is not the time to become complacent!

I am so glad that determining who should lead this once great country is as simple as picking my favorite color. Blue or Red? Is it so completly distilled to the point that instead of speaking about the real issues that are affecting us like a trained chimp we can just point to a color to pick our side. The mindlessnes that constitutes political discourse is frightening

People in ND are blind followers, don’t see ND becoming a battleground state ever. They just see the “Republican” on the ballot and that’s where they make the tick. Not sure why time is spent typing in the names, really. Could just be one checkbox for Republican and 95% of the population would be satisified.

Posted by: Patrick | October 2, 2008, 4:08 pm 4:08 pm

Hey Jeff Melville – excuse me, how are “Democrats slow to react to threats to the country?” One of the reasons independents are leaning toward Obama is that Old War Horse saber-rattling McCain is absolutely frightening in this 21st century. And giving “God’s Plan” Palin access to nuclear codes is even more terrifying.

People are just not buying McCain’s character attacks, since he has no issues that he can stand behind. GO Obama/Biden 08!!

Posted by: Michael | October 2, 2008, 4:14 pm 4:14 pm

Why doesn’t McCain just pull out of the race and save us all some $$$ and our sanity.
Aside from a severe lack of knowledge on pertinent issues, after reviewing the Couric interviews I find that nothing bothers me more than the fact that Sarah Palin delivers “deception” with far too much ease and also that the similarities to the Bush/Cheney legacy are both striking and indelible. I suspect that no kind of Kabuki Theater performance by her tonight could ever retrieve John McCain’s already sinking ship. McCain’s demeanor over the entire course of the campaign has been anything but Presidential. With desperation on display, McCain will stop at absolutely nothing – even discrediting a highly renowned political journalist with an impeccable record for his own personal gain. FACT: The higher Obama climbs in the polls, the lower McCain’s ethics will sink – and it shows over and over and over again. Senator McCain’s increasingly erratic behavior and hostile temperament is deeply, deeply disturbing at best.
Obama/Biden 08: True and HONEST change!

It amazes me the biased media simply ignores Barack Obama’s connections to Rev Wright. Because he is black the mainstrwam media will not challenge him anymore on his relationship. If the roles were reversed and it was John McCain sitting in a pew for twenty years listening to a non patriotic racist, he would have been forced out of the election.I still believe Repubs will pull this election out.

It made up lies formerhillary about Obama, this person wants us to believe that he alone is the problem not the greedy execs or the bush administration.
Luckily more and more people are seeing through the lies and not allowing people like this spin their web of lies against Obama.

Kandy – it was very disturbing seeing those school children sing hymns about Obama. This world has gone loony over Obama. Obama is a far-left radical (remember he was a trainor for Acorn – they helped create this mortgage mess by pressing banks to give the loans to people who couldnt afford them).

Dan: “Please explain to me how creating a bunch of new social programs will help our economy? ”
Are you serious? Healthcare is an inefficient mess. The lack of corpses in the street proves we ALREADY have universal healthcare, it’s just incredibly inefficient and ineffective. Highly trained doctors should not spend a significant portion of their time filling out paperwork and fighting with insurance companies.
The Iraq war proves how a program to get us off oil would save money in the future. If we didn’t need the Middle East’s oil, we’d be tutting over the genocidal tragedy from a safe distance rather than sending some of our best and brightest into the meat grinder to protect and serve folks who’d just as soon see us dead.
The benefits to the economy of a well educated workforce are well known and documented.
So those are my off the cuff replies. Perhaps you could reply by stating, SPECIFICIALLY, what new social programs you fear Obama will introduce? Is this just more of the protect-the-insurance-industry anti-efficient healthcare FUD?

Did you know Biden, Obama, McCain, Bush 44, Cheney, Gore, Clinton, Quale, Bush 42, Carter, and Ford were all named for their father and/or grandfather?
So if you want your son to grow up to be president, name him after his father and/or grandfather!

We don’t need four more years of Bush’s policies. And no wonder McCain has kept Palin under wraps, jeeze. I mean what a ditz, name a paper you read lady, it won’t be endorsing it. Does she even know what type of justices there are sitting on the supreme court. People aer whining that the media is too hard on her, well guess what we have thirty days to get to know a potential number two. Being VP isn’t just sitting around with your tanning bed. Even if she does ok in the debate after cramming, people have seen her being herself. Except for those Rush Limbaugh lovers, we need a candidate who understands complex issues, not just one. I wonder what McCain would do as president if he was off at the G-8 summit and a emergency happened, guess what, Barack is totally right, you have to multi-task, and it is also why you have a talented team. You can’t simply say “I’m shutting down and going to focus on one thing”, by the way john, I guess those Republicans who you went to smooth over didn’t get the memo!, I don’t like this anymore than anyone else, but it is not about “me” or “you”,its about “us”.It is even beyond the Stock Market, though I have a 401K, it is about available credit. Without it, people cannot buy, and companies cannot sell, and people lose jobs!, Finally, as a fisherman, and outdoorsman, I was against Palin from the start for wanting to oepn up ANWR, pristine wilderness places need to be left alone, I don’t relish having to fish and hunt next to an oil derrick. OBAMA/Biden 08!!

Another posterchild for the modern Republican party: All I Every Need To Know I Learn From Talk Radio.
The rich dodge many taxes, Warren Buffet famously compared his income tax burden to his $60k a year secretary (something like 17% for Buffet and 30% for the secretary), but the rich certainly do pay taxes. Arguably not proportional to the benefits they derive from living in our highly developed society’s services, but they pay.

Let’s not get complacent! Alot of rural Michigan still thinks the war was a good idea and McCain is a leader….I don’t know how that could be possible given the fact, that McCain has made one bad decision after another. Just a little about Obama … Please read all the way to the bottom.
HIS FATHER WAS A KENYAN, A MUSLIM, AND A BLACK- WE SEEN ALL THOSE PICTURES OF HIS NICE AFRICAN FAMILY.
HIS MOTHER IS KANSAN, ATHEIST, AND WHITE. SO – WHERE ARE ALL THOSE PICTURES OF HIS NICE WHITE MOTHER AND HIS NICE WHITE GRANDPARENTS – THE ONES WHO RAISED HIM ALL THOSE EARLY YEARS?
HIS FATHER DESERTED HIS MOTHER AND HIM WHEN HE WAS VERY YOUNG AND MOVED BACK TO LIVE WITH HIS FAMILY IN KENYA (THAT’S THE ONES IN THE PICTURES).
HIS WHITE MOTHER THEN MARRIED AN INDONESIAN MUSLIM AND TOOK HIM TO THE CITY OF JAKARTA WHERE HE WAS FIRST SCHOOLED IN A MUSLIM SCHOOL ..
HIS MOTHER THEN MOVED TO HAWAII AND HE WAS RAISED BY HIS WHITE MIDDLE-MERICAN GRANDPARENTS THERE.
UMMM…NOW HERE’S THE HARD PART FOR ME (HELP ME OUT HERE, IF YOU CAN):
SOMEHOW, SUDDENLY – HE WENT TO THE B EST HIGH DOLLAR PREP SCHOOLS IN AMERICA , AND LATER, HE GOT INTO A TOP IVY LEAGUE COLLEGE AND LATER, INTO HARVARD LAW SCHOOL- HOW? WHO SPONSORED HIM? WHO PAID FOR ALL THAT SCHOOLING? (HAVE YOU LOOKED AT TUITION EXPENSES TO ATTEND UNDERGRADUATE YALE LATELY? HOW ABOUT HARVARD LAW SCHOOL ? SOMEBODY PAID A LOT OF BUCKS FOR THIS KID’S IVY LEAGUE EDUCATION…….) WHO?
A SENATOR’S SALARY IS NOT THAT GREAT, BUT THIS YOUNG MAN AND HIS YOUNG WIFE PRESENTLY LIVE IN A $1.4 MILLION DOLLAR HOUSE THAT HE ACQUIRED THROUGH A”DEAL” WITH A WEALTHY FUND RAISER.
WHAT SORT OF “DEAL”? RIGHT OUT OF HARVARD LAW, HE “WORKED” AS A CIVIL RIGHTS ACTIVIST IN CHICAGO .
HE THEN ENTERED POLITICS AT THE STATE LEVEL AND THEN MOVED TO THE NATIONAL LEVEL – WHERE HE SCRAMBLES TODAY WITH VERY MINIMAL EXPERIENCE IN ANYTHING – WHILE OTHER PEOPLE WRITE HIS SPEECHES FOR HIM.
IN ALL HIS TIME IN THE STATE AND NATIONAL LEGISLATURES – HE’S NEVER LAUNCHED ANY IMPORTANT LEGISLATION WHATSOEVER MOSTLY, HE’S OUT RUNNING F OR PRESIDENT.
HE CLAIMS TO BE “PROUD OF HIS AFRICAN HERITAGE” BUT IT SEEMS THAT HIS ONLY CONNECTION WITH AFRICA WAS THAT HIS AFRICAN FATHER GOT A WHITE GIRL PREGNANT AND THEN DESERTED HER.
UMMM….WHERE IS THE PRIDE IN HIS WHITE HERITAGE? AFTER ALL – IT WAS WHITE GRANDPARENTS THAT RAISED HIM!
HE IS PRESENTLY A MEMBER (FOR OVER 20 YEARS!) OF AN “AFROCENTRIC” CHURCH IN CHICAGO THAT HATES WHITES, HATES JEWS, AND BLAMES AMERICA FOR ALL THE WORLD’S FAULTS.
HE REPEATEDLY COVER ED UP FOR THAT PASTOR AND THAT CHURCH – SAYING THAT HE CAN SEPARATE THE RELIGION FROM THE POLITICS, WHEN HE HEARS A HATE-WHITEY SERMON.
HE CLAIMED THAT HE WAS SIMPLY UNABLE TO CONFRONT HIS PASTOR OF 20+ YEARS ABOUT THE PASTOR’S DEMONSTRATED UN-AMERICAN BIAS, BUT HE WANTS US TO BELIEVE THAT HE CAN CONFRONT NORTH KOREA AND IRAN , WHEN THE TIME ARISES TO TAKE AMERICA ‘S SIDE.
YEAH – WITH THIS BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE, HE “HOPES” THAT HE COULD BE A UNITER AND BRING US ALL TOGETHER;
BUT – WE THINK THAT THE REAL “HOPE” IS, THAT HE REALLY HOPES, THAT NO ONE WILL PUT ALL THESE PIECES TOGETHER, UNTIL AFTER THE ELECTION…….! and he wants to be our commander and chief of our armed forces and he was never in the service. Hmmm…….we can’t let this happen.
What do you think of this?
The Book of Revelations
This will make you re-think : A Trivia question in Sunday School : How long is the beast allowed to have authority in Revelations ? Guess the Answer?
Revelations Chapter 13 tells us it is 42 months, and you know what that is.
Almost a four-year term to a Presidency. All I can say is Lord Have Mercy on us.!
According to The Book of Revelations the anti-Christ is:
The anti-Christ will be a man, in his 40′s, of MUSLIM descent, who will deceive the nations with persuasive language, and have a MASSIVE Christ-like appeal….the prophecy says that people will flock to him and he will promise false hope and world peace, and when he is in power, will destroy everything ..
Is it OBAMA?? I STRONGLY URGE each one of you to repost this as many times as you can!
Each opportunity that you have to send it to a friend or media outlet…do it! I refuse to take a chance on this unknown candidate who came out of nowhere.

You must live in a very fearful world. I have seen my 9 year old nieces sing “hymns” to spaghetti, a snow man, and ice cream to name a few. Oddly, doesn’t scare me in the least.
The beating Obama took from his “followers” after voting for the FISA bill clearly shows he is not a cult of personality by any classic definition. The blind support McCain – or even moreso, Palin -commands from the base currently meets the definition of a cult of personality.

It’s shame that McCain didn’t pick Romney who could easily champaign for him in Michigan. Looks like we will settle for President Obama who I am sure would be no worse than Bush but I still hoped McCain would be more fiscally responsible.

Karl,
One of McCain’s biggest supporters is the Rev. Haage. He is the one who said God sent Hitler to force the Jews to Israel. He said God sent Hurricane Katrina to punish the sinners in N.O. He called the Catholic Church “The Great Wh*re.” McCain has yet to repudiate this anti-christ and yet to return his contributions.

This may help some of you to undestand how our taxes work
Bar Stool Economics
Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:
The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.
The fifth would pay $1.
The sixth would pay $3.
The seventh would pay $7.
The eighth would pay $12.
The ninth would pay $18.
The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.
So, that’s what they decided to do. The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve. ‘Since you are all such good customers, he said, ‘I’m going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by $20. Drinks for the ten now cost just $80.
The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes so the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free.
But what about the other six men – the paying customers? How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his ‘fair share?’ They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody’s share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer. So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man’s bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay.
And so:
The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings).
The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33%savings)
The seventh now paid $5 instead of $7 (28%savings) .
The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings).
The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings).
The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings).
Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to drink for free.
But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings.
‘I only got a dollar out of the $20,’declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man,’ but he got $10!’
‘Yeah, that’s right,’ exclaimed the fifth man. ‘ I only saved a dollar, too. It’s unfair that he got ten times more than I!’
‘That’s true!!’ shouted the seventh man. ‘Why should he get $10 back when I got only two? The wealthy get all the breaks!’
‘Wait a minute,’ yelled the first four men in unison. ‘We didn’t get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!’
The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.
The next night the tenth man didn’t show up for drinks, so the nine sat down and had beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn’t have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill!
And that, boys and girls, ladies and gentlemen, journalists and college professors, is how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might start drinking overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.

To use your children to further your political agenda is sick. You are only programming them not in math or sciences which this country needs to progress in this world but to worship someone who is by all accounts has little if any experience in handling the economy or foreign relations. Keep worshiping yourselves to the poor house – or worse. Though McCain is no dreamboat on either subject but he at least has a track record. Both of these clowns are horrible on Illegal Immigration – but thats for another day.

We need to stop blaming the president, no matter who it is for the economy in Michigan. How about our “great” Democratic Governor who has had 8 years to do What?

I guess the only state where he will win is Alaska, and they’l get back Palin who can stay there. and thats what Alaskans deserve for electing her in the first place.

Someone asked, “how will creating a bunch of social programs pay off for the economy?”
How about this for starters — I am self employed and my health insurance costs have gone from $234 a month three years ago to $544 a month and my coverage is terrible. That’s $300 a month that I am not spending to buy a car, go out to eat, etc.
My sister lost her job and her health insurance – while she had cancer. Now she had to quit working to be able to qualify for Medicaid because no one would give her health insurance and because of this, businesses wouldn’t hire her. She used to make $40k; now she gets food stamps. She’s not buying a new car, or a house or anything else. She has no money in a bank.
My brother worked for a small retail business which had to lay him off. Why? Two reasons – fewer sales, higher health care costs. His boss said, “I can’t afford to pay for your health care and pay you, too.’
And you think that trying to deal with the health care crisis in this country won’t have an effect on the economy?

Well, as long as Michigan continues to vote in tax and spend liberals beholden to the union bosses then I would say that justice is being done in Michigan — we get what we deserve. The unions have single-handedly run business, people, and most importantly, young people fleeing from this state. It really is sad. Refer to the WSJ piece from a few weeks ago: “If you like michigan’s economy, you will like obama’s.”

Here we go again with the liberal media… “Michigan Falls off the Battlefield”. Which part of this story is liberal? John McCain pulling his campaign from Michigan. Liberal media did not cause John McCain to pull out of Michigan, his failure to win over voters did. If you can’t face reality, go back to your “fair and balanced” Faux News, and leave the real world to people who can think for themselves.

What people don’t realize is the Democrats are the reason we are having such terrible economic times. During their reigns the Democrats create all kinds of problems like Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were forced to give loans to people without verifiable jobs, income and no credit check. The Republicans are always faced with trying to resolve these problems during their reign. Democrats voters are just so stupid they cannot see pass their own hand.

Keith, Obama’s connection to Rev. Wright is old news. A few months back there was as much coverage of that connection as there has been lately about Palin’s stunningly content-free responses to Katie Couric’s questions.
If the McCain campaign isn’t running nonstop ads about the Obama-Wright connection now, maybe it’s for these reasons: News about the Wright connection hasn’t been fatal to Obama, the campaign doesn’t have cash to spend on ineffectual ads, and McCain knows that Obama would counter with Keating Five ads.
Given the current financial meltdown and McCain’s bizarre behavior in response to it, I don’t think any Republicans want to see those Keating ads.

Karl | Oct 2, 2008 4:34:24 PM – The book of Revelations? I know of the book of Revelation no s. Exactly what chapter in the Book of Revelation was the antichrist or a Muslim mentioned? Are Republicans trying to rewrite the Bible now? Do you know no shame? Since Republicans have seem to have no problem distorting the Bible even though most claim to be Christian I’ll provide you with some facts.
Considering the Bible was completed by the early second century, and the Islam religion wasn’t founded until the early 600s, it’s not surprising that the world Muslim (the name for Islam followers) does not appear in the Book of Revelation. So it’s this part where it says the Antichrist will be a man “of Muslim descent,” that is ridiculous.
By definition, the Antichrist is “the polar opposite and ultimate enemy of Christ,” according to the Encyclopedia Britannica. And because Muslims believe “there is no god but God,” they would have great difficulty with the idea of elevating a person to a divine status.
A Muslim would be a monotheist and the last thing a Muslim would do is have anyone worship anyone other than God.
Not to mention the fact that Obama is not a Muslim.
Please please please stop trying to insult or intelligence.

To Alex: I’m not trying to defend Mitt Romney. What I am trying to do is show that strategically McCain blew it by picking Palin rather than Romney, partiuclarly if you want to put the state of Michigan into play. Romney’s father, George Romney, was a past Governor of Michigan and the Romney family still holds a lot of clout in Michigan. The point is, McCain took Michigan out of play as soon as he ditched Romney and picked Palin. Then McCain was stupid enough to actually believe he could still win Michigan and spent millions in trying to do so. It was a blunder of major proportions!

Face The State Staff Report
In a confidential internal memorandum obtained by Face The State (PDF), the Colorado Democracy Alliance outlines a roster of “operatives” who worked for Democratic victory in the 2006 general election. The document outlines specific tasks for various members of the state’s liberal infrastructure, including a campaign to “educate the idiots,” assigned to the state’s AFL-CIO union. Among the operation’s intended targets: “minorities, GED’s, drop-outs.”

People ask why Obama gets 10 to 20K people at his campaign rallies and McCain only gets about 5K. Its because all of McCains supporters are working at their job and paying taxes. Obama supporters are bussed in from the soup kitchens and from the local welfare department, plus little kids singing a song worshiping Obama.

McCain is making a big mistake. There are a lot of us here who would vote for him simply because he is not a Marxist, Racist, Sexist, Muslem who surrounds himself with radicals and hates the pledge, the flag and everything that made this country great.
Oh, by the way this would be a good time to contact your representatives in the House and urge them not to vote for the bail out:
Hi, my name is ________ and I’m a resident of ______. I’m calling to voice my strong opposition to ANY financial bailout. Government regulations caused our problems on Wall Street and the bailout will force my family to shoulder the burden of government’s failure. Vote no on the bailout.”

Oh I’m sorry. I totally forgot. Bush and people like John McCain were too busy lying to us about a war we should have never been involved in while allowing the terrorists who attacked us to skate and reorganize themselves in Afganistan making them stronger than ever. And I also forgot that they were too busy worrying about how to screw the American consumer at $4/gallon while all of their oil buddy’s made a killing. They were also giving them government money too. I guess all of that would distract from lierally every important issue that has been dogging this country for the last 8 years. Many of Palin’s answers float a familiar noun (experience, reform, terrorists, maverick) untethered to an object or verb, let alone a principle or a policy.
Just a routine question about what Supreme Court rulings she disagrees with other than Roe v. Wade set Palin off on a winding highway. “There’s, of course, in the great history of American rulings, there have been rulings, that’s never going to be absolute consensus by every American. And there are those issues, again, like Roe v Wade, where I believe are best held on a state level and addressed there. So you know going through the history of America, there would be others.” And that’s just the half of it.

McCain has certainly been anything but steady at the helm. The economy is good — oops, no it isn’t. I’m for the Paulson plan — no, maybe I’m not. I won’t be going to the debates unless there’s a bailout deal — oh, I guess I’ll go. All along, McCain’s trump card had been that Obama was too inexperienced to offer voters the stability the nation requires. That argument looks a lot shakier today.

They should not be taking any sort of recess while Michigan and so many other states continue to suffer with our economies. They all seem to have A D D. Why the heck are they focusing on passing legislation to protect lighthouses? Wasn’t it Obama who did not want to meet with other senators to discuss the bailout. His campaign was more important than what was happening to the American people during an huge crisis. Then he decides to go – following the lead of McCain. Who is the leader and who is the follower”? And for someone like O who says he is a reformer, why didn’t he protest against the bailout deal, which will probably make the rich even richer? He couldn’t help but know how people felt about it. This is just a small sample of what he will be if he is president. No Clinton could not have veto ed the bill if he would have wanted to… think now why???? why would that be?
Because all the Democrats voted for it not just all the republicans save a few.
Your not getting the big picture it was your elected officials on both sides that allowed this to happen.
Congress is corupt all of it… so you your decision now has to be about who will actually do something ….. to affect change… in the right direction
Sitting here and arguing about McCain and Obama is not going to win us anything. We are at war with Pakistan and Afganistan not just Iraq.. Obama said in the first debate that he would attack Pakistan that is what he said I was watching… McCain said he would never say that outloud… but the fact is both of them said Pakistan is our next battle ground they are bothing going to continue this war and more troops are going to go to Pakistan… this is inevitable… who do you want in the white house for the next round in the middle east?

And it was only 2003/2004 when the freddie/fannie regulator said fannie and freddie were overstating their earnings, the Demo’s then said “No they aren’t” And Barney Frank said “there is no evidence of any problem at fannie or freddie.”
and the demos said this is a with hunt after Franklin Raines, and insinuated it was a racist attack on Frankie. Of course we now know, as the regulator said then, Frankie was “cooking the books” to enrich himself to the tune of 90 million dollars in 6 years.
Now we have Piglosi, Reid, Dudd, Frank, trying to bail themselves out of the problem they created, to the tune of 805 Billion.
Thank You Demos

I would like to know what you think about Pakistan and the first debate.
Both McCain and Obama said the same thing. Pakistan is a problem they need more troops and they will both send troops..
So what do you think ??? you of such big ideas…
Who do you want in the white house while we fight the next stage of this war coz it is going to be a doozy..

Badger,
If McCain has any Campaign at all and all this BS you spill about Obama is true, the McCain Campaign should investigate and bring the proof to the media.
I guarantee you Fix News will run with it even if the others refuse.
Why are you expecting others to do your dirty work you lazy bones? Get off that couch and get to work before Old Grumpy is beaten in the greatest landslide in American history.

I must admit that your little story got me thinking. I’ve always blindly opposed tax breaks for the wealthiest but you really do have a point here.
Not that I could not think of something like this, just that I was blinded by my political affiliations.
I wish if we all used logic to sway voters instead of negative attacks.
I’m still a dem supporter but atleast got some fodder for thought.

khollo – hey dingus in case you missed it there WAS no problem with Fannie and Freddie back in 2003/4. All McLame wanted to do was privatize both of them, just like Bush wanted to privatize Social Security. Imagine what would’ve happened if the GOP got their way and privatized all three? Millions of Americans would have lost their homes and retirement savings last week and this week as the stock market continues to tank. Good thing the Dems fought hard against more bad ideas from the GOP.

When Palin is asked a question and she messes it up, she’ll say…redo, redo..like she’s in some parlor game. McCain will be sitting watching this game while his advisors will be yelling at him…”see, I told you, this pick of yours stinks big time, she can’t even answer a simple question like “what does the bailout do for America” She went on with some nonsense about health care, and Russia and her window. All these months we slaved for you McCain and you had to go pick this loser. No wonder you can’t ever win the Presidency, you blow, said his advisors and left him alone with Cindy who was also pissed at McCain. And I ordered new furniture for the White House, no First Lady for me…boo hoo.

Steve NJ – Why should Mccain have to do the job of the media, and investigative branches? Is is too much to expect trhe same scrutiny over both candiidates? There is no doubt that McCain has dropped the ball a few times in this race, Palin has not shown herself to be an encyclopedia of political knowledge. Having said that Obama has made 20 gaffes in the last year, he has no experience, he has very questionable associations. Why the media obassesion with a vice preseidential candidate, when you have Barcak Obama with all of his radical anti american left sometimes racist associations. Is that not a potential national security threat? What the fkkkkk is going on here? It is a pure manipulation of the vote, and democracy in general.

I watched the first debate and I was a little shocked at Obama’s response to the Pakistan issue. I really dont know what the lesser of two evils would be.
If you know what I mean. McCain has more experience and has actually been in the middle east more than once. He is respected and maybe even feared by the middles east. Obama is not known but they like him… I read that the Iranians are for Obama… I dont know if that settles well with me that all the other countries are Obama fans. I dont want a President they think they can snowball.. It is not that difficult a situation for me as I was an adult during the Regan administration so I am voting for McCain.
I hope that helps

The regulators went before a congressional oversight committee to report (as was the job of the regulator), and told them Fannie and Freddie were inflating their numbers in order to allow the CEO’s (such as Franklin raines) to make and exceed the numbers needed for their bonuses to kick in.
The committee, read DEMOCRACTS (Barney Frank included), questioned the regulator about his capability to do his job; stated that he was trying to do a hatchet job on Franklin Raines, and tried to make it a race issue.
So, you see el gonzo, there was trouble at fannie mae and freddie mac in 2003/04, and it had nothing to do with Bush, McCain, or privitazation.

Meanwhile, McCain jokingly said Thursday that Obama’s poll numbers are rising as the economy seems to sink “because life isn’t fair.”
“He certainly did nothing for the first few days,” McCain told Fox News on Thursday. “I suspended my campaign, took our ads down, came back to Washington, met with the House folks and got on the phone, and also had face-to-face meetings.”
Blatant lies – McCain didn’t suspend his campaign didn’t take the ads down and when he went to Washington many believed he spoiled the negotiations.
Capt’ No earmarks or pork-barrel spending also voted for the current ‘bail-out’ bill. If you want to look it up go ahead and look it up – see how many earmarks are in that bill.
Obama voted for it, too – but Obama isn’t running on this as an election promise – McCain did so you can only judge McCain on that one.

I am a moderate democrat who will be voting for John McCain, but I must admit he’s run a lousy campaign! His selection of Sarah Palin was a lifesaver and gave his campaign a much needed boost. Despite what the biased Media wants to say, I don’t believe Palin’s lack of foreign policy experience is hurting McCain.
Yes, the Wall Street debacle has cost him 5-6 points nationally and in those battleground states, but he’s also neglected key states such as VA, NV, NC, FL and OH that should have been safely in his corner. The only state he should be contesting should be CO. Now he finds himself playing catch up with 32 days to go.
He had a chance to win this thing and has completely blown it! His decision to postpone his campaign was both stupid and ill-advised. His debate performance was good, but not great. I know he’s a good man and means well..but you don’t get to defeat your opponent by “being nice and meaning well”..just ask Barack Obama!

FANNIE AND FREDDIE
The story of Franklin Delano Raines was the first one to penetrate public consciousness when he left Fannie in 2004 under a cloud because of accounting irregularities. He later paid the
government $24 million, $15 million of which was worthless stock options.
Now Franklin is working as an economic advisor for Obama (denied by the Obama camp, but phone records and other sources indicate otherwise)
… the biggest joint failure in American history, a loss so huge that no one can calculate it
yet. If 20% of the $5 trillion portfolio is bad, this will require a trillion dollar bailout by the government.
Henry Paulson knew when to walk away.
He had been the CEO of Goldman Sachs until he accepted the call to become Secretary of the Treasury.
Maybe you did not know the following. When you become Secretary of the Treasury, you must divest yourself of stock holdings. Not to do so would be a conflict of interest. Make sense?
But how could anyone be lured into this office who is a big player? Think of the capital gains taxes! So, the government passed a law that exempts Federal appointees from taxes if they sell their holdings before they take office.
Paulson sold his shares. I would call this very good
timing. Because he had a reason for selling, the sale did not depress the share price. He got out.
He owned half a billion dollars in Goldman Sachs shares.
Nice work if you can get it. If you can get it, tell me
how.
CONCLUSION
The taxpayers now get to bail out Fannie and Freddie.
The Big 3 American auto companies will get $25 billion. AIG
will get its $85 billion.
THE Common Denominator?
All Democrats
Before the bailout meeting in Washington the day of the Presidential Debate, a high ranking Goldman Sachs employee sent the Republicans Alternate Bill to Obama. Obama went to the meeting with the notes from the Republicans proposal. At the meeting when Pelosi was supposed to speak about the administration and congress bailout proposal, she passed to Reid, who then passed to Obama who then began to bash the republican proposal (which wasn’t on the table yet nor what the meeting was called to discuss). Next, Paulson (democrat from the treasury), chimed in with Obama against the Republican proposal. It was at this point when Boehner (R- Ohio), spoke up about being ambushed and the meeting blew up.
The cause of the blow-up was Obama, not the republicans as the news reported. Some think Paulson did not expect or want Obama to use the notes to attack, but wanted him to be ahead of the curve on the repub proposal.
Dirty politics at best by Paulson. Bad judgement by Obama (surprise surprise).

How true. Given the difficulties minorities have in this country, his accomplishments are to be commended.. not just in his education, but his teaching of constitutional law, fighting for the ‘have nots’ and his political career as well. He is indeed an intelligent and gifted individual, and it is unfortunate that people cannot give him the credit he is due. Unfortunately, some people continue to harbor the same irrational thoughts of those in our past history that led to great hardships and injustices. Had he perhaps been born a different skin color or had a more typical American upbringing, this election would most likely be a slam dunk for him.
I regret for this as well, and am ashamed at how I see some of my fellow Americans behaving.

Posted by: Concerned American | October 2, 2008, 7:57 pm 7:57 pm

American desired to change but they forget Obama record
Remember Obama is the most liberal member of the United States Senate.
He received a 100 percent Liberal Rating from the National Journal, making him the most left-wing Senator in Washington — more liberal than even Democratic senators like Ted Kennedy.
If you look at Obama’s record, you will understand just how dangerous this man is.
He even has terrorist friends he won’t denounce. One such man is William Ayers, a leader in the radical terrorist group the Weatherman Underground. The group bombed several government buildings, including the Pentagon, killing civilians and police officers.
In 2001, Ayers said he had no regrets for his actions and wished he could have done more.
The ties between Obama and Ayers are tight. Both served on two non profit boards and they worked closely together. Ayers even hosted a political event at his home for Obama.
Obama has acknowledged he is a friend of Ayers and defends his association by saying he, Obama, was only 8 years old at the time of the Pentagon bombing.
However, Obama has no explanation as to why he is still a friend of Ayers.
Obama has even been endorsed by radicals such as Nation of Islam Leader Louis Farrakhan.
No one can deny hearing about Obama’s relationship with the America-hating Rev. Jeremiah Wright.
There should be little doubt that William Ayers and Louis Farrakhan and the Rev. Jeremiah Wright are rooting for Obama — because he is one of them.
In keeping with such friends, Obama has promised to meet with radical leaders like Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad without “preconditions” even though Ahmadinejad has promised to “wipe Israel off the map” and “destroy” America.
Even radical Hamas terrorists have praised him.
“We like Mr. Obama and we hope he will win the election,” Ahmed Yousef, senior Hamas leader was quoted by ABC radio as saying.

Posted by: Akitisha | October 2, 2008, 8:22 pm 8:22 pm

It seems more and more evident that Obama has to choose his words very carefully and waits until he sees which way the political/public winds are blowing before he can say anything about a problem. I want a President that will reassure the country that even though we are in a crisis, the government is working overtime at how to solve it and the foundations of America still remain strong. I don’t want a President that runs and hides or blames everybody but his party/himself or rails about doom and gloom every time there is a bump in the road. John McCain has a history of tackling problems head-on and is not afraid of ruffling feathers. The only feathers Obama isn’t afraid to ruffle are those on the other side of the isle.
I also wonder just how Obama will do meeting heads of state and having to make a speech off the cuff. He has shown over and over again that he cannot speak well without his trusty teleprompter. Even when he “slipped” with the lipstick on a pig quip, didn’t anyone notice that he glanced at the palm of his hand before he said those words? I do believe he tries to appear spontaneous, but just can’t do it. I would very much like to see him be swept for an earpiece during the debates. Heck I remember that President Bush was accused of cheating at a debate because of the “bulge” under his shirt.
I have been doing my own research on Obama’s words and actions and the more I read, the more I know that he IS NOT a man of his word and he truly is an elitist. I have yet to hear anyone mention the fact he firmly said he WOULD NOT run for President or Vice President until after he completed his full 6 year term as Senator. Didn’t take him long to change his mind. Why should we believe he will follow through on anything he says now? I noticed his 95% of American’s not having to pay more taxes has just been cut to 90%. If he or his surrogates can’t remember that simple number, just what else are they screwing up on? Lastly, he said in an interview October 2006 on MTP that he didn’t want to be ‘just’ a President; he wanted to be a “GREAT” President. Doesn’t that take a bit of ‘hubris’?
The idea of Obama and his rookie cronies talking over our Government scares the living crap out of me!

Wait until the polls start reflecting the “Republican” support of the long gas lines in the Southeast, including some places charging $8.00 per gallon because their states do not have anti-gouging laws. We may see McCain pulling out of THE SOUTH?

we need a comfortable lead and even at that not until we win the election come Nov.4 with obama, we have to keep mccain on the extreme defense even in the so-called red states.

I am prepared if Obama lies his way to the White (Black) House. I have a small business and I have already contacted a company in India to continue production. according to my accountant Obama’s steep taxes will put me out of business in a short time. This has been a family business for 37 years and now the family name is history. I feel sorry for the 34 employees, but it’s move operations to India/China or go out of business.
The grass is not always greener on the other side…
Thanks Obama, 34 employees will remember you!

It is quite fascinating that nearly every single Republican posting on here resorts to instilling fear in the prospective voter to get their point across. You have to be ‘afraid’ of ‘Hussein’ Obama. You have to be ‘afraid’ of Iran, and what will happen if ‘Obama’ is elected.
It is really, really, extremely pathetic how sad the Republican position really is. All they have is fear. That’s all they’ve had since 2000. We have witnessed the entire implosion of a US political party. It is a sad day in America.

The rest of your rant is simply a repeat of the same logical fallacies that have been long since put to rest. You can stop beating the dead horse.
Instead, why not look at some of the issues, accomplishments and qualities of each candidate.. it will play a significant role in the future direction of this country.
Why do you support a trickle down taxation policy? Do you even know who coined the phrase and what it’s result was when first tried? What tax plan would result in a quicker economic stimulus and greater chance at closing the gap between Government spending and revenues? Have you even looked?
How do you feel about health care? Are you aware that we are not only in a financial crisis in America, but in a health care crisis as well? Do you think that by deregulating the market and increasing competition, more Americans will be able to obtain health insurance? Do you care? Did you know that a majority of Americans are afraid to switch jobs, even though it would mean an increase in income, simply because they would not be able to obtain health insurance due to pre-existing conditions? Did you know that McCain wants to tax employer provided health benefits for the first time in history in order to shift them to private policy coverage, which would result in even more Americans losing health care. Did you know that both candidates plans cost roughly the same, but Obamas would be more efficient and provide close to a seven to one (per capita) greater ‘bang for the buck’ towards coverage of currently uninsured Americans?
Do you favor the current stance of Bush and McCain regarding dialog with perceived enemies, or do you think that dialog is needed (as do the 5 former secretary of states) to attempt a peaceful solution rather than a military one?
Are you concerned about gas prices and the rising price of home heating fuel? Do you think that the enron loophole should be closed providing an immediate reduction in prices, or do you feel like McCain does that it needs more study? How do you feel about alternative energy sources and our eventual energy independence. Do you think drilling more (long term) and nuclear (long term) solutions are the way to go for immediate relief, or do you think that more emphasis should be placed on switching to alternative fuels now along with other near term solutions?
How do you feel about the intelligence and insight our next leader should posses? Have you looked at their plans for our exiting Iraq and Afganistan? Have you looked at what their positions were in 2002 regarding these issues, or what their positions are today regarding them? Have you bothered looking at recent studies, such as the recent one submitted to Congress by the RAND corporation or the Iraq Study Group and compared that to each candidates call for action a year ago, or two years ago?
Care to comment on anything other than more logical fallacies or conspiracy theories?

McCain, the drama queen is moving into the last act of the play, finally. McCain is like a kid who acts up so badly in school that he/she should be suspended, but because the parents have connection — the kid gets labeled a “maverick” instead – and is allowed to keep messing up until no one, not even the parents (McCain’s advisors) can take it anymore.

hubris? Hardly. Anything I do, I want to do it as best as I can. To ‘just’ be a president is like ‘just’ being a brain surgeon, or ‘just’ being an football player. If you don’t desire to be the best, you wind up being someone like the current numnuts in office, who was ‘just’ a student at Yale with a C average.

Obama produce:
-your “vault” Birth Certificate
-your Certificate of Citizenship
-your Oath of Allegiance
Cooperate with the Federal Judge in the case: Berg v. Obama, No. 08-cv-04083.
Produce the documents or get out of Dodge…

ABCnews, NBCnews, CBSnews and FOXnews, time to address your profession in the media and “grow a pair” and do in-depth story on Obama and the DNC’s lawsuit against them, regarding the non-citizenship of Obama. The Federal Court has accepted the lawsuit, which accused Obama and the DNC of fraud. The real (vault) birth certificate was discovered in Mombassa, Kenya. There is proof that Obama was a citizen of Kenya and Indonesia and therefore, lost his U S Citizenship.

I am amazed who are the heads of Fannie May and Freddie Mac as well as Lehman Bros and Bear Sterns all prominent democrat businessmen. Wait a minute I thought the Democrats were the poor people and the republicans were all rich. Poor people like Bill Gates (democrat) and Don Trump (democrat) and the list goes on. Fact of the matter is They say they raise taxes on the rich but there the rich. Always remember if they raise taxes on the rich read the fine print theres added loop holes so they really won’t have to pay it. And the bottom 30% pay no tax. The top 5% pay over 50% of all the tax so please get facts straight instead of spewing party line sound bites. Obama will raise taxes on gasoline, tobacco, electricity etc. It may not be on your payroll check but we will all pay don’t kid yourself.

The major shortcoming of the current system of electing the President is that presidential candidates concentrate their attention on a handful of closely divided “battleground” states. In 2004 two-thirds of the visits and money were focused in just six states; 88% on 9 states, and 99% of the money went to just 16 states. Two-thirds of the states and people were merely spectators to the presidential election. Candidates have no reason to poll, visit, advertise, organize, campaign, or worry about the voter concerns in states where they are safely ahead or hopelessly behind. The reason for this is the winner-take-all rule under which all of a state’s electoral votes are awarded to the candidate who gets the most votes in each separate state.
Another shortcoming of the current system is that a candidate can win the Presidency without winning the most popular votes nationwide. This has occurred in one of every 14 presidential elections.
In the past six decades, there have been six presidential elections in which a shift of a relatively small number of votes in one or two states would have elected (and, of course, in 2000, did elect) a presidential candidate who lost the popular vote nationwide.
The National Popular Vote bill would guarantee the Presidency to the candidate who receives the most popular votes in all 50 states (and DC).
Every vote would be politically relevant and equal in presidential elections.
The bill would take effect only when enacted, in identical form, by states possessing a majority of the electoral votes—that is, enough electoral votes to elect a President (270 of 538). When the bill comes into effect, all the electoral votes from those states would be awarded to the presidential candidate who receives the most popular votes in all 50 states (and DC).
The National Popular Vote bill has passed 21 state legislative chambers, including one house in Arkansas, Colorado, Maine, North Carolina, and Washington, and both houses in California, Hawaii, Illinois, New Jersey, Maryland, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Vermont. The bill has been enacted by Hawaii, Illinois, New Jersey, and Maryland. These four states possess 50 electoral votes — 19% of the 270 necessary to bring the law into effect.

How can someone who has never led a state, city, company or middle school student body lead the US? Palin has more leadership experience than Osama! And to quote Hillary Clinton, the presidency is not the time for on-the-job training!
Last, Osama reminds me of George Bush Senior and I bet that Putin and Bin Ladin must be quaking in their boots over the thought of Barak winning! Maybe some Al-Quada operatives will be among the convicted felons that Osama is trying to give voting rights!
