Mountain Mama! Obama’s Buying TV Time in Red State West Virginia

Sen. Barack Obama’s campaign will be buying TV ad time in West Virginia, a red state that President Bush won twice.

The Obama campaign believes that Sen. John McCain’s inability to articulate a coherent economic view, in the campaign’s view, gives the campaign an opening in the conservative rural state, which tends to elect Democrats locally, but has gone for Republicans more recently.

Is this a head fake? A move to make McCain spend money in a state he was counting on not having to compete in? A real push? We shall see. Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., tellingly, will visit the Mountaineer State soon.

There will be no let up by the Obama campaign.
They are now pressing the advantage on the ground and on the airwaves.

McCain lost his lead in West Virginia. 2 latest polls. McCain +2 and another Obama +8.
The economic crisis cause this shift. I don’t think Obama will get WV. BUT Virginia is VERY possible. North Carolina, Colorado, and Missouri are also red red states Obama leads.
I see a landslide.

According to today’s gallup poll, and the traditional method of polling, the race today is a statistical tie:
From gallup:
“The “traditional” likely voter model, which Gallup has employed for past elections, factors in prior voting behavior as well as current voting intention. This has generally shown a closer contest, reflecting the fact that Republicans have typically been more likely to vote than Democrats in previous elections. Today’s results show Obama with a two-point advantage over McCain using this likely voter model, 49% to 47%, this is within the poll’s margin of error. — Frank Newport”

Obama is tied in the latest West Virginia polls out there and even ahead in the last West Virginia ARG poll.

Tina,
you don’t even believe your own post. You know as well as I, this isn’t the typical election, and the new voters that have registered, will be showing up for Obama…It’s called a difference in the enthusiasm gap from past years when it was Kerry and Gore. Let it go, kay pumpkin?
O and Joe 08, We’re playing Gold right now!

Why would it be a head fake? The race is close there and Obama maybe able to turn it.
No harm in trying

Over the past few days, Reuters/Zogby, Gallup, and Rasmussen poll all show the race is tightening.

I’m from WV and now live in VA.
Obama will have a hard time in WV! It’s worth making McCain play the state. But unfortunately, and I honestly hate to use the word, there is a huge racist element there. And it’s not the closet racists.
I love WV and have many great friends there and it’s perhaps the most beautiful state in the US. But the educational systen there is horrible, there’s no diversity, and the social attitudes of a lot of the population are still somewhat backwards. (We moved when our kids got to schooling age)
Now VA is going BLUE! Much different demographic here.
Go Obama/Biden!

Obama did the exact same thing in the primaries, and he got thumped in nearly every state where it was “one person, one vote”.
Obama is getting millions of illegal campaign dollars from fictitious people such as “Dirty Pooey” and “Doodat Pro”. He’s also getting thousands of dollars which was stolen through illegal credit card theft. And he’s also getting hundreds of thousands of dollars in illegal campaign contributions from the America haters in the Gaza Strip. Therefore Obama has millions of dollars to waste on repetitious campaign commercials and video game advertisements (didn’t Obama rail against video games in last night’s debate? Talk about mixed messages!)

Obama needs to clarify that his tax “increases” only kick in on INCOME (i.e., PROFITS) over $250,000. It is not that the business is making $250,000. You can have a business making over $2 millions in sales, and they still get a tax reduction under Obama if their PROFITS are below $250,000 after they pay their employees and other expenses. This is a 3% tax increase on NET PROFITS above $250,000/year. I am worried when he’s using the term “making,” he’s confusing people. It’s not how much people make. It’s how much they net. Only if the net above $250,000 will they be subjected to an additional 3% on the income that’s above $250,000. The income that’s $250,000 and less will still be taxed the same and even at lower rates.

“Over the past few days, Reuters/Zogby, Gallup, and Rasmussen poll all show the race is tightening.”
Rasmussen has had it around a 5 pt lead for Obama for over a week.
Reuters/Zogby has been consistent in the same 4 to 5 pt range.
Gallup has narrowed a couple of pts in the registered voter poll buts its traditional poll has had it much closer usually 2 or 3 pt lead for Obama.

polls show WV moving toward Obama, it makes sense to make sure he’s got some ad money going there.
With a 10 point lead in VA he doesnt really need WV but…

“Obama did the exact same thing in the primaries, and he got thumped in nearly every state where it was “one person, one vote”
Obama won 7 primaries on Super Tuesday alone. He won at least 9 more after that.
The lesson as always? Right wingers lie.

100% Negative?
Obama falsely claimed all of McCain’s ads had been “negative.”
Obama: And 100 percent, John, of your ads – 100 percent of them have been negative.
McCain: It’s not true.
Obama: It absolutely is true.
It was almost true, for one recent week. Obama was referring to a report by the Wisconsin Advertising Project at the University of Wisconsin that concluded that “nearly 100 percent of the McCain campaign’s advertisements were negative” during the week of Sept. 28 through Oct. 4. During the same week, 34 percent of the Obama campaign’s ads were negative. The Obama campaign was found to have outspent the McCain campaign in nearly all of the competitive states, in some cases by a margin of more than 3-to-1.
McCain’s ads, however, have not been deemed 100 percent negative in other weeks. In fact, in the week after the Republican National Convention, 77 percent of Obama’s ads were negative, according to the advertising project, while 56 percent of McCain’s were negative.
and yes he also failed to mention that his campaign gave ACORN $800k. The Chicago Way! The most corrupt city that pays the highest taxes in the country. Thanks Obama

Did anyone see the story yesterday about the couple who made a purchase from a telemarketer and $2300 was taken from their credit card for the Obama campaign? Saw it yesterday afternoon, but it would be useless to post a link since my posts have always been deleted when I do.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Hillary campaigning in West Virginia for Obama next week.
Wow, West Virginia is in play!!!

Obama would have qualified his statement about McCain’s ads being 100% negative, but the angry old man kept interrupting him.
They have been 100% this month and will probably continue to be since McCain has no real plan other than to continue failed Republican policies.

Obama is buying 30 minute time slots for informercials. This is a desperate move. People who are ahead do not spend this kind of money, and do not make this kind of desperate moves. This is a sure indication that Obama’s internal polling is telling him something different than the public polls are telling him.
One other thing…….Chris Matthews slammed the New York governor on Obama’s nonaccomplishments last night. If the news people think they are on the losing side, they start to slide the other way. Why? Because they want access to the President. If Obama loses, that would mean they have to deal with a President McCain. the hatchet job they have done on McCain, or rather, their allowing Obama supporters to have the floor to themselves, has already alienated McCain. If Matthews is making nice to McCain, then he probably knows something he isn’t telling us too.

Okay, I tried to post here but I have to say that this election has killed every amount of respect that I have had for journalism. It is funny that the reporters are all over Joe the plumber like lapdogs but Mulhony is untouched and no interviews of Ayers or Rezko. I am sure they would talk to someone. Just really interesting and I think I will never have faith in the media again.

Rick the answer to that would be “nope”, my husband makes all the money we need. The real question would be, if you see me on here all the time, that must mean YOU don’t have a job, at least by your statement. (I would urge you to seek gainful employment and support your family)

No, I doubt that, but it might be a good idea for everyone to check their statements and make sure someone hasn’t gotten ahold of the numbers and used it for something like this.

Doesn’t really matter, does it? Whether a fake or not, it forces McCain to divert resources from Pennsylvania. If McCain loses PA, it really becomes very very difficult for him to win.

If TV ad spending= more votes, then Soros can be President.
Obama likes to waste money on ads like wasting tax payer dollars.
McCain will win West Virginia confortably.

People of America need to research the articles relating to Ex-FBI agents outrage regarding the Obama-Ayers ties. All the news agencies need to be talking to these agents and reporting the full and complete story. American people desire to know the complete story on the connection.

Obama is giving a positive message.
If there is any consistency in McCain’s campaign it is that its a constant flood of lies and deception. Nothing but negative campaigning and McCain supporters have nothing but negative comments about obama. Not one supporter can even recite any of McCain’s proposed programs or tax plan, because they simply don’t know or don’t care.

Mr. Tapper,
While WVU’s teams are called the Mountaineers, it is not the Mountaineer State. Rather, it’s the Mountain State.
I’m a native West Virginian who has lived in the NYC region for many years but have never lost my pride in my beautiful home state. It would make me so proud to see West Virginia go into the blue column for Obama. I’m hoping the good people there will see the light come election day. I think Obama’s well-articulated and well-thought-out programs would benefit this struggling state that has been continually raped and abused by corporate interests. West Virginians deserve better.

WVa isn’t as racist as people claim.. People in WVa are warm, family oriented, and traditional. When they learn how John McCain abandoned his first family, divorced his wife to marry his mistress Cindy Hensley, they will vote Obama who stand for real family values.
