New McCain TV Ad Uses Biden’s ‘Rhetorical Flourishes’ Against Obama

"Listen to Joe Biden," says the announcer in a new McCain TV ad, "talking about what electing Barack Obama will mean."

"Mark my words," says Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., "It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama.

"The world is looking. We’re going to have an international crisis … to test the mettle of this guy. I guarantee you it’s gonna happen."

Intones the announcer as the screen fades to black: "It doesn’t have to happen.  Vote McCain."

Earlier this week, Obama insisted that Biden was just saying the next president would be tested. When it was pointed out that Biden’s remarks were Obama-specific, Obama seemed to dismiss his running mate’s "rhetorical flourishes."

My whole family gathered last night and we all came to the same conclusion that Mr. McCain is all negative. We are all going to be voting for Mr. Obama, and his latest republican endorsements come to show the remorse these republicans feel.

WOW. No atomic mushrooms yet? Or scenes from B-movies with zombies roaming the streets of small town America?
What a decent man McCain truly is! Bravo!

It’s is sad thing: I’ve started to despise John McCain.
For his negativity, his dirty attacks, his neglect of the middle classes in this crucial campaign.
I vote for him when he ran against Bush in the 2000 primaries.
Now I want Obama to become our President.

Each president has been tested when taking office. Prime example: John F. Kennedy, with the Cuban crisis. There are places in the world who will test, especially when a new president takes office.
Obama is a strong, determined and positive person, and I am sure he can handle what is dished out.

On the day Obama leaves the trail to be at his gravely ill grandmother’s side.
Have you no sense of decency sir, at long last? Have you left no sense of decency?

My whole family gathered last night and we all came to the same conclusion that Mr. Obama is a fraud. We are all going to be voting for Mr. McCain.
Texas for Mr. McCain 08
(Hopefully Obama’s grandmother who was released from the hospital last week but Obama claims is ‘seriously ill’ and ‘might not make it until Nov 4th’ doesn’t mind his half truths.)

Posted by: msa123 | October 24, 2008, 10:24 am 10:24 am

Over a month ago, Obama told his supporters to “get in their faces” but did the media report it? Of course not. Had McCain said the same thing, it would have been reported that he was “inciting violence.”
Even CNN has now admitted that Biden’s perpetual “loose lips” are treated differently than if Sarah Palin had made these same comments about a potential “international crisis.”
And yet…calling attention to these issues is considered “negative”…
Wow.Just.Wow.
I’m still trying to figure out how raising taxes on anyone anywhere is going to lower prices on the things we purchase everyday.

Posted by: Michelle | October 24, 2008, 10:28 am 10:28 am

Why didn’t the ad continue with Biden’s complete comment, including that Obama has a “spine of steel”. They conveniently left that part out, of course. Obama has a family he loves and wants to protect, too. What makes anyone think he won’t react appropriately to any “attack” since he will be surrounded with capable, competent advisors who also will know what to do in the event of a crisis. He will have the final decision, but nonetheless, he has surrounded himself with some very intelligent individuals. The man can think on his feet. America won’t be left helpless as McCain wants you to believe. McCain’s ads are full of “fear”. When Obama said two months ago “they will try to scare you about me,” all the Rethugs started saying he was playing the race card. Obama’s predictions proved to be true. McCain hasn’t stopped trying to “scare” people away from Obama. That’s all McCain’s got.

Posted by: Bhrandon | October 24, 2008, 10:30 am 10:30 am

The McCain campaign is just desperate. And weirdness abounds: the young woman campaign worker who claims she was attacked. Well…why is the “B” backwards? Because that is what it looks like when you do it yourself in a mirror (SEE: Morton Downey incident). That whole incident is…strange. Nothing captured on the security tape. She refused medical attention. If you are mugged and an assailant “mutilates” you, of course you will welcome medical attention.

Every president has been tested at one time or another. Does McCain think he’s so much above it all that he wouldn’t be??? Oh please!!! he’s a mean old codger.

Posted by: jeni | October 24, 2008, 10:30 am 10:30 am

Reasons I will Vote McCain:
1. News reporting “Obama rushes to Grandmothers bed side. 3 Days later. My grandmother died of Cancer and my family took turns sitting at her bed. I own a small restuarant where I cook and manage the business. I immediately closed the business down for 10 days – no matter the cost. He has convinced me that his concern is not genuine. He is only taking 2 days to be with her. After she raised and sacrificed for him.
2. Spreading the wealth around. I run my own business – 12 hours a day 6 days a week. I put up every cent to do this and I should give back to others that I work so hard for. No thank you! Maybe Obama should give him millions from his campaign back to the poor people instead of spending the money on lavish stages i.e. the convention.
3. He will be tested in the first 6 months. – No thanks – our country or any other country should not experience anything possibly horrific.
4. After Colin Powells Endorsement – I am voting McCain. He obviously wants to see a black man as President.
The list can go on – but I have to begin my prep work.
NO Obama.

Posted by: Frank- South Hampton | October 24, 2008, 10:30 am 10:30 am

Oh please…we all hope that Obama’s grandmother gets well. But spare us the “have you no decency” crap.
McCain ran a very nice ad on the night of Obama’s acceptance speech at his convention complementing the historic nature of his candidacy. What did Obama do on the night of McCain’s speech? Schedule an interview on the most watched cable news program–Bill O’Reilly. Couldn’t suspend his campaign during his opponents convention as has been tradition for decades. So…decency? yeah.
That cuts both ways. Obama talks good smack. He just has a willing propaganda media willing to spread his crap to an class-envy hungry audience.
We’re about to get a whole heap of the Obama special spread the wealth fun for the next four years….hope our ailing economy can handle it.

Every new President is tested. Happened to FDR, DDE, JFK, GHWB, WJC, and GWB. It’ll happen to whomever is elected in November.
Do any of these Robocalls transmit any positive message about what McCain’s actually for?

Posted by: Brooklyn Democrat | October 24, 2008, 10:34 am 10:34 am

Well, at least I know if Obama is tested he’ll use careful and intelligent thought before proceeding. McCain’s take would be something on the lines of “Bomb, bomb, bomb Iran”. Do we really want a hot head in office if this does happen. Oh, and Mc’s friend Liebermann said the exact same thing weeks before Biden ever did. You could have seen McCain’s teeth fall out when it was brought up.

Posted by: Vanessa | October 24, 2008, 10:36 am 10:36 am

Hey Pamp205
What will Obama do if he is tested:
Um ehh Umm I ohh um – why um did umm you go and um do that um for? Um Please um say that em your umm sorry.
Clinton was never tested – because other countries new Bill Clinton isn’t weak.
But we now for sure the “Community Orgainizer from Chicago is weaker than water.

The truth is John McCain is testy, not tested.
At least that is what his Republican colleagues in the Senate have concluded:
Bob Smith, former senator from New Hampshire: McCain’s “temper would place this country at risk in international affairs and the world perhaps in danger. In my mind, it should disqualify him.”
Sen. Pete Domenici of New Mexico: Talking about McCain, said he doesn’t “want this guy anywhere near a trigger.”
Sen. Thad Cochran of Mississippi said of McCain: “the thought of his being president sends a cold chill down my spine. He is erratic. He is hotheaded.”
And why is it that so many former GOP governors are abandoning McCain?
MN, VA, MA, CT former GOP Governors all supporting Barack Obama.
Who is the next GOPer who will endorse Obama?
Could it be a decorated Vietnam Vet and highly respected current Republican U.S. Senator?
Stay tuned…

My whole family gathered last night around a campfire and we decided we are voting for McCain because Obama is full of BS.
Definition of BS: to talk nonsense especially with the intention of deceiving or misleading. Pretentious talk; bold and deceitful absurdities.

Posted by: Thank you | October 24, 2008, 10:50 am 10:50 am

Why do you think foreign countries like and approve of Obama? They know he will be a deer in headlights when handling crises. Go back and research the comment he made about the invasion of Georgia by Russia. A joke pertaining to Alabama.
We need MCCAIN; who takes the world issues more seriously and we need someone who is prepared and ready on day 1. McCain is NOT BUSH he will call senators and congress out if they are not progressing the country towards fiscal responsibility and through economic growth. This congress and senate is democratic controlled and they have the worst approval record of actually trying to work together and get what we need done. MCCAIN will hold them responsible and accountable to the American people. Right now what we have is a Democratic party who will only work when they can make themselves look good with a President of their party.

“Why do you feel it is OK to raise taxes on people who are – in most cases – successful because of their own doing”
Let me skip over the give away program. A stimulus based on sending out checks is borrowing from China to buy from China. The net result is the same as giving sugar water to a diabetic. It’s a bad idea.
On the other hand, we have critical infrastructure work to do which is vital to our safety. Basic road and bridge maintenance for example. This does create jobs. However, a stimulus package of any kind on day one is a bad idea. The first order of business is budget review to tighten the belt. Then some judicious borrowing for critical tasks.
McCain has the right idea here. Obama is buying an election.

derik, you were going to vote Obama anyway. I will vote McCain, because I am so sick of the media bringing up every thing negative about him and never saying any of the bad about Obama, Acorn, Muslem, and more, Obama said he thought every American should serve in the armed forces, but yet he never served. What’s with that.

WAKE UP AMERICANS!
Pennsylvania Democrat Philip J. Berg, who filed a lawsuit demanding Sen. Barack Obama present proof of his American citizenship, now says that by failing to respond Obama has legally “admitted” to the lawsuit’s accusations, including the charge that the Democratic candidate was born in Mombosa, Kenya.
As WND reported, Berg filed suit in U.S. District Court in August, alleging Obama is not a natural-born citizen and is thus ineligible to serve as president of the United States. Though Obama has posted an image of a Hawaii birth certificate online, Berg demands that the court verify the original document, which the Obama campaign has not provided.
Now Berg cites Rule 36 of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, which states that unless the accused party provides written answer or objection to charges within 30 days, the accused legally admits the matter.
Since Obama has only filed motions to dismiss and has not actually answered the charges in the lawsuit, Berg claims, according to Rule 36, Obama has legally admitted he is not a natural-born citizen.
Now Berg is asking the court for a formal declaration of Obama’s admission and asking the Democratic National Committee for another presidential candidate.
In a statement released today, Berg argues that he filed Requests for Admissions on Sept. 15, meaning Obama had until Oct. 15 to answer or face the consequences of Rule 36.
“Obama and the DNC ‘admitted,’ by way of failure to timely respond to Requests for Admissions, all of the numerous specific requests in the Federal lawsuit,” Berg’s statement reads. “Obama is ‘not qualified’ to be president and therefore Obama must immediately withdraw his candidacy for president and the DNC shall substitute a qualified candidate.”

Posted by: dilligaf | October 24, 2008, 11:01 am 11:01 am

“And why is it that so many former GOP governors are abandoning McCain?”
Because Obama is buying the election and these governors know the retribution for not supporting him will be swift. Obama has run a thuggish campaign and just as it intimidated the Democratic delegates in the primary, it is intimidating the governors.
Republican governors supporting Obama should be looked at very sceptically by their constituents in the next election. If they show not loyalty or spine now, if he is elected, they will be jellyfish.

Mark my word, if John McCain becomes president, within 6 months the people that supported and elected him will regret they ever heard the name John McCain. This nation has been pushed to the brink of disaster by the Bush administration, McCain will give it the final nudge. John McCain has no sense of decency left, he has lived his life in a lavish bubble for so long he is totally out of touch with the poor the needy and the working class of this country, and frankly I wonder if he isn’t out of his mind.

The world IS going to test Obama. See, there’s this global economic freakout going on — maybe you’ve heard of it? Probably not since McCain and Jake Tapper don’t like to talk about anything but “rhetorical flourishes” and character issues.
I find it pretty hilarious that McCain’s campaign would suggest that the mere act of putting McCain in office would solve calm the World’s problems. He’d better hope as much.

The rebate checks for the 95% of Americans (the good Americans)has bought the election. No need to come up with witty one liners – it is a done deal.

“Our enemies will test the new president early,” Lieberman, I-Conn., told Face The Nation host Bob Schieffer.
“Remember that the truck bombing of the World Trade Center happened in the first year of the Clinton administration. 9/11 happened in the first year of the Bush administration. Who ever win this election will be tested”

Someone making over $250,000 a year net income can afford a higher tax rate. Just how much money do you need to live “comfortably”? Come on, that’s pretty good money. You won’t have all your money taken away, don’t be so reactinary. You just pay a bit more in taxes. Sounds fair to me. But right now, people making a whole lot less than that are taxed more than they should be. Obama isn’t going to “give your money away.” Let’s not be stupid, okay?

There have been many things Obama and Biden have said, that make it look like they really do not want in this anymore.
These comments by Biden, are pretty obvious and direct, and sincere.
First him telling America he forgot all he knew on foreign Relations.
He probabaly has been so remote from foreign relations, that he can honestly state he has no clue what is happening in the area today.
Now Confirming what most Americas already Thought. That America will be attacked if we elect Obama.
That was a well thought out statement.
Mark my words, shows Biden whole heartidly foresees that.
Not a gaff, not a misquote. Direct, Honest, Sincere Thought out statement and beleif.
Sure you can suck into the Obama koolaide and propaganda, and his spin on he meant this or he meant that.
Endoresments do not mean Squat, They are done to sway public opinion. They do not mean that person is going to vote Obama.

Who was the highest paid individual in Senator John McCain’s presidential campaign during the first half of October as it headed down the homestretch?
Not Randy Scheunemann, Mr. McCain’s chief foreign policy adviser; not Nicolle Wallace, his senior communications staff member. It was Amy Strozzi, who was identified by the Washington Post this week as Gov. Sarah Palin’s traveling makeup artist, according to a new filing with the Federal Election Commission on Thursday night.
Ms. Strozzi, who was nominated for an Emmy award for her makeup work on the television show “So You Think You Can Dance?”, was paid $22,800 for the first two weeks of October alone, according to the records.
Okay: $11,400 a week to do her make-up? And they were complaining about the Newsweek cover? This is no hockey mom. She’s America’s Next Top Super Model!

“When it was pointed out that Biden’s remarks were Obama-specific, Obama seemed to dismiss his running mate’s “rhetorical flourishes.” Love the way Obama’s definition of words differs from the rest of the world’s, as long as it is flattering to him. And I guess when Joe said OBAMA IS INEXPERIENCED in the primaries, he didn’t really mean that either. Obama is a racist fraud!

According to Snopes.com, Princeton was requested to put a ‘restriction’ on distribution
of any copies of the thesis of Michelle Obama (a/k/a/ Michelle laVaughn Robinson) saying
it could not be made available until November 5, 2008 but when it was published on a
political website they decided they would lift the restriction.
In her senior thesis at Princeton, Michele Obama, the wife of Barack Obama
stated that America was a nation founded on ‘crime and hatred’.
Moreover, she stated that whites in America were ‘ineradicably racist’. The
1985 thesis, titled ‘Princeton-Educated Blacks and the Black Community’ was
written under her maiden name, Michelle LaVaughn Robinson.
Michelle Obama stated in her thesis that to ‘Whites at Princeton , it often
seems as if, to them, she will always be Black first…’ However, it was reported
by a fellow black classmate, ‘If those ‘Whites at Princeton ‘ really saw Michelle
as one who always would ‘be Black first,’ it seems that she gave them that
impression’.
Most alarming is Michele Obama’s use of the terms ‘separationist’ and
‘integrationist’ when describing the views of black people.
Mrs. Obama clearly identifies herself with a ‘separationist’ view of race.

Princeton was requested to put a ‘restriction’ on distribution

Here is another passage that is uncomfortable and ominous in meaning:
‘There was no doubt in my mind that as a member of the black
community, I am obligated to this community and will utilize
all of my present and future resources to benefit the black
community first and foremost.’
What is Michelle Obama planning to do with her future resources if she’s first
lady that will elevate black over white in America ?
The following passage appears to be a call to arms for affirmative action
policies that could be the hallmark of an Obama administration.
‘Predominately white universities like Princeton are socially and academically
designed to cater to the needs of the white students comprising the bulk of
their enrollments.’

I am not a Republicrat. I plan to vote Bob Barr for President in 2008. As far as I am concerned, there isn’t a dimes worth of difference between McSame and Osama. But even so, we all need to see Barack’s original long form birth certificate like the one I have for myself and my son that reveals the birthing hospital, the doctor and his parents and their the residence. It is required to get the job of US President. I would also like to know why is there a birth certificate on file in Kenya for someone named Barack Hussein Obama II born the same day? Can someone show me a copy of that birth certificate? It concerns me that the headlines on the news papers in Kenya read Kenyan born Barack Obama to be US President. It seems that all we hear about Obama right now is the approved propoganda from the mainstream media, instead of the truth? But, seriously, we all need to see more investigative reporting and less editorializing on this subject, and less catnip for the media.

TODAY:
Obama did not write an official thesis: students were not required to do so at the time, and what counted as a “thesis” was really a long seminar paper.
Obama wrote his for Prof. Baron’s American Foreign Policy class. A search has been launched for a copy of the paper, which was confirmed to have been on the topic of Soviet disarmament.
As yet Columbia has been unable to find a copy… Prof. Baron now retired in FL say he doesnt have a copy and “there is nothing in it which would worry or embarse Mr Obama”
Barack also wrote another paper on the North-South debate on trade.
I hope that answers your questions Today!

Jake,
Do you have any pull with the McCain campaign?
A friend is a make-up artist, and she says she’ll work for much less than the $11,400 a week Team McCain is paying for Sarah Palin’s make-up artist.
We know they are running low on cash and all, so she’s willing to work at a cut rate. Maybe $3K a week?
That way it won’t be so embarrasing for the McCain campaign to have its highest paid staffer be a Make-up Artist.
Of course, if the job involves doing the weekly message make-over then she might need some help. She can bring her brother, who is a plumber.

McCain’s claim of “I’ve been tested” and projects himself sitting in the cockpit of his plane throughout the Cuban missle crisis is almost laughable. I’m sure JFK had him on the red phone getting his advise. McCain gets tested on the floor of the Senate and throws out some choice cuss words at a fellow Senator and then stomps off to his office. Yeah that is a real sign of his hot head in being ‘tested’. I’d say his biggest “test” is looking at ole face lift momma and being able to do so without laughing!

This is a nothing ad. Biden is correct. Who ever is the next president will be tested. Whether it’s McCain or Obama, the next president will be tested. There is nothing in this ad that says anything bad about Obama. In fact this ad does not have what Biden said at the start when he said really good things about Obama and then following it up with the fact that who ever is the next president will be tested in the first 6 months. It has been pointed out in the news that every president for the past several presidents have been tested in their first 6 months. This ad is grabbing at straws for McCain. And again, rather than stating anything usefull, he attacks Obama.

Posted by: keredte | October 24, 2008, 12:10 pm 12:10 pm

You know what is sad, McCain has nothing to go off of. So, he has had to resort to twisting peoples words to maked his campaign. The elections are less than two weeks away. If McCain thinks he can really make a come back, he is truly mistaken. He screwed himself when he brought on that Stupid women Sarah Palin to be his Vice presidential pick. At the begining it helped. His campiagn got a boost. But now, americans truly see what kind of a leader she could be and the kind of judgments McCain makes. In the words of Jack Cafferty “This woman is a 72 year olds heart beat away from becoming our next president. If that does’nt scare the hell out of you I dont kow what will!!!!”

John McCain, referring to the October 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis, said: “I was on board of the USS Enterprise, I sat in the cockpit, on the flight deck of the USS Enterprise, off Cuba. I had a target. My friends, you know how close we came to a nuclear war.” Then, he went on and said “America will not have a president who needs to be tested. I’ve been tested, my friends.” You have been tested? Hummm! Let’s see! You, Sir, were in the Oval Office at that time presiding over the negotiation with the Russians. Right! In other words, you were the Commander in Chief with the authority to call all the shots. Right! But I would say that President John F. Kennedy was the one who was tested. Not the other John. Not you either, John McCain. Sir, in this case, you have not been tested yet. Therefore, you have no scars to prove that you have been tested! Do you? I think the “Straight Talk Express”, John McCain, has some explanations to do to the American people. It’s RIDICULOUS.

Hey I am all for the tax cut on the middle class too. However, cutting taxes on the wealthiest drops revenue. So, it’s win win…drop taxes on everyone and the “system” gets more money…TO PAY DOWN THE DEBT! NOTHING ELSE!
I just think Obama revealed himself the most in the primary debate when he said that he would raise taxes even if it meant less money for the gov in the interest of “fairness”
Having come from pretty close to poverty and seeing a lot of my poorer compatriots operate, I also think that they don’t need another incentive not to strive to better themselves…there is a lot of entitlement attitude in the sainted lower class. And it’s a drain on all of us…
But, robbing Peter to pay Paul gives you the support of Paul. Promise someone an extra K a year? Not too shabby. Course, the manufacturers still won’t be coming back…the medium businesses will be hit and hire less, etc.
Power to the “people”..right?

Of course not…because he has bought the media too. Think about it people. He’s adverstising on every major network and website so the networks are in his back pocket because the media is making lots of money off Obama…..the man who said he would except campaign financing (just another broken promise).
As for Palin’s medical records, dare I ask why NONE OF OBAMA’S RECORDS HAVE BEEN RELEASED?? School records, medical records, etc. all under lock and key…just another cover-up to keep the American people blindfolded to the real Obama.
Obama has been getting a free pass far too long from the media while Mccain who is a great patriot and servant of this country gets bashed to no end. What has this country come too?

This country is in a war and we need someone to step in and know what the hell is going on, not someone who is scared of his own shadow. If America has any sense at all, vote McCain Palin. Other wise Joe Biden is correct, within 6 months this country will be in a international crisis. If Obamas own VP does not even think he is qualified than why should we. This has for sure become a race issue and its wrong, people are coming out of the wood works to vote Obama just because of his color. So get out there republicans and vote McCain!!!

It’s very telling how many pro-McCain comments use name-calling to make their point. If Joe Biden is so stupid and doesn’t know anything, then why are his words being taken as some sort of unavoidable prophecy of attacks-to-come?
You can’t have your cake and eat it, too, at least not for people who are paying attentiong: Biden can’t be a no-nothing and yet know everything (including telling the future). So he’s an “idoiot” but he’s clairvoyent? Well, I’d love to have a V.P. that can see the future, as many of you, and even the McCain camp, thinks he can!!
Also, in college, we learn about the many types of propaganda, and the McCain campaign has used just about all of them, including slippery slope arguments leading to unfounded extrapolations, name-calling, and all sorts of distortion. I’m fearful that there is such a large amount of hateful Americans out there that act like anyone who’s not for them (who they generally call “liberals”) is labeled to be against America and such a threat to their existence.
It’s sad that a line from High School Musical has come into my head just now as inspiration to actually look at the facts and stop the fear and rhetoric: WE’RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER. Remember that after the election, the people you’re insulting will still be your government’s leaders and your fellow Americans.
Don’t give yourself a reason to bite your tongue in two weeks.

Sigh. Of COURSE whoever’s elected is going to be tested. Those leading other countries who wish us harm will ALWAYS try something with a new president. IMO the reason is that they think we’ll be weaker – false assumption. Obama chose someone with some solid long-term experience as his running mate. To me, that’s the test of a candidate. Who he surrounds himself with and if it’s someone who has strengths to fill in his weaknesses. McCain’s choice was a blatent appeal to women and was condescending in that the Republican National Party apparently thought you could switch Clinton supporters to Palin just because she’s female. I’m not impressed or amused.

Joe Lieberman who supports McCain said the same damn thing about McCain that he will be tested by our enemies as most new Presidents have been tested in the past. So I guarantee there will be a ad by the Obama camp with Lieberman speaking the same words about McCain. It just makes no sense why McCain throws stuff out there about Obama when he knows Obama can throw it right back and make it stick.

It’s sad to know that Biden doesn’t trust Obama. look at the clips of Obama meeting with national security advisors, you can see that the old folks are not happy with Obama’s experience. He picked Joe Biden to booster his weakenss (on Foreign policy)and now his VP has doubt on him. Look at Medeline Albright’s interview with CNN, she agreed with Joe Biden. I hope Americans don’t make the wrong choice.
I’m a democrat but with two wars going on and with this economy crises, I will vote for McCain, who has a solid background.

You people are in denial, you have so much faith in this person (Obama) you think he’s going to solve all your problems as if he’s your savior. Thes are proven facts, there’s no excuse, just lies. Mccain is a good guy and hes actually been involved with the other party and supporting the other party, even at one of his even someone yelled out a negative comment against Obama and he said something to that person saying it was uncalled for. Mccain is a professional who plays a fair game, he has experience. If anyone is negative its Obama, instead of talking about the differences he refers to Mccain as if he has been our president for the past 4 years and which he has not people, be realistic. Finally the republican party has the guts to come out with some ads that put Obama’s true image out there.
You cannot be biased when voting, you have to look at both sides and find out all the information you can, Obamas promising things that cannot be done, its not even realistic but people believe it because thats what they want to believe.

Will fit in nicely with the world. He will fix the economy, it’s funny since the Democrats have had control of congress and it’s still going down hill. HAS THERE EVER BEEN A U.S. PRESIDENT WHO HAS NOT BEEN TESTED? WE KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEMS ARE HERE AT HOME…. WHAT WE NEED TO WORRY ABOUT NOW IS HOW THE WORLD WILL VIEW AMERICA AFTER THIS ELECTION!!!!! EACH DAY I HAVE OPPORTUNITY TO COME IN CONTACT WITH PEOPLE ALL OVER THE WORLD… SOMETIMES VIA TELEPHONE, SOMETIMES E-MAIL. THERE ARE ALOT OF TIMES WHEN THE CONVERSATIONS TURN TO POLITICS. LISTEN UP PEOPLE!!! THE WHOLE WORLD IS WATCHING THE UNITED STATES. THE RESULTS OF THIS ELECTION ARE GOING TO HAVE A DIRECT IMPACT ON HOW THIS NATION IS VIEWED BY OTHER COUNTRIES. WHETHER YOU ALL WANT TO ADMIT IT OR NOT, THE U.S. IS NOT THAT POPULAR IN THE WORLD COMMUNITY ANYMORE THANKS TO BUSH AND THE WAR IN IRAQ. MANY PEOPLE IN MY INTERNATIONAL CIRCLES ARE AGAINST JOHN MCCAIN BECAUSE HE WANTS TO CONTINUE THAT WAR. THIS ELECTION IS BIGGER THAN MOST OF YOU REALIZE. IT’S NOT JUST ABOUT FIXING THE HOMEFRONT (WHICH SHOULD BE THE PRIORITY), BUT IT’S ALSO ABOUT REBUILIDING OUR REPUTATION WITHIN THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY. MANY PEOPLE IN OTHER NATIONS CAN SEE RIGHT THROUGH JOHN MCCAIN, AND THEY KNOW THAT A MCCAIN PRESIDENCY IS A 3RD TERM BUSH PRESIDENCY. I WONDER WHY PEOPLE AT HOME CAN’T SEE THE SAME THING? I THINK MANY OF THE PEOPLE ON THESE BLOGS ARE SO AFRAID OF CHANGE, SO AFRAID OF SOMETHING (OR SOMEONE) “DIFFERENT” THAT THEY CHOOSE TO BE BLINDED BY THEIR OWN IGNORANCE, THEIR OWN PREJUDICE, AND THEIR OWN BIGOTRY AND HATRED THAT THEY CAN’T SEE WHAT’S BEST FOR THE NATION. IT’S NOT JUST ABOUT “THE BLACK CANDIDATE” OR “THE OLDEST CANDIDATE” OR THE “MAVERICK WAR-HERO” OR THE “FRESH FEMALE FACE.” IT’S ABOUT THE LEAGACY WE’LL LEAVE FOR OUR CHILDREN. ALL OF THIS MESS HAPPENED ON OUR WATCH, IT’S UP TO US TO CLEAN IT UP…. JUST FOOD FOR THOUGHT….

Maubama says: “Rather than have the daily contest here, as this board ultimately devolves into – I have a question. A real question of you libs that I’d like answered in all sincerity:
Why do you feel it is OK to raise taxes on people who are – in most cases – successful because of their own doing, in an effort to give to those who are not as successful for a variety of reasons? Doesn’t this penalize success? Why even bother if this is the case?
I say this, not because I am cold hearted or anything, but – rather – because I think this is a fundamental point. To me, if you limit or penalize success, then there is less incentive to be successful … and eventually, there’s less successful people to tax at a higher rate.
Again, I’m not being combative here – I’m trying to see what “the other side” has to say about this. I’m trying to keep an open mind.” >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Personally, I don’t think the individual wage earner should be required to pay federal income tax at all. But, in respect to the discussion, the proposed taxes don’t adversely affect wage-earners below 250K. So, here’s another wrinkle. Of that miniscule percentage of Americans earning more than a quarter million dollars a year, how many of those are earning that money as a reasonable recompense for services offered or goods sold without their being some seriously questionable methods of earning/gaining that level of income? Just a thought. In other words, how much of that earning capability is really related to honest “success”?

“I’m a democrat but with two wars going on and with this economy crises, I will vote for McCain, who has a solid background. ”
And what constitutes a “solid background”? McCain was in a war, yes, as hundreds of thousands of Americans have been, but I have heard NOTHING about sucessful decisions he’s made concerning any foreign policy issue to give him all of this experience and expertise people claim he has over Obama.
And humans are fallible, it’s true. I think the worst kind of leader is one that portrays that he’s not (coughBushcough) and gets people to make bad decisions because of it. Having people in government with different strenghts and points of view is the PURPOSE OF DEMOCRACY. It takes a good leader, and a good man, to at least attempt balance in areas he is not as strong in instead of picking someone weaker than himself to run with who he can just flaunt around to pick up stragglers who were bitter that Clinton didn’t get nominated.

If that many people cared then they would have got out and voted along time ago. so don’t make the rest of the country suffer because you think you are voting for some kind of rightous cause. Good. I for one am glad that the McCain campaign is using this in an ad, because Biden’s comments raise LEGITIMATE questions, and I felt that the media just dropped the issue all too easily.
First of all, what exactly did Biden mean by a “generated crisis” – and why are the American people going to first assume that Obama’s reaction to the “generated crisis” is the wrong response?
It sounds like not only do Biden and Obama know of this impending doom, they already know how they’re going to respond and they know the American people are not going to like it – that’s pretty troubling and I want an explanation!

stopthemadness – Most presidents don’t need “testing” from the world because their positions on most policy issues are pretty darn clear – and that’s just not the case with Obama. Bush was not tested (no – 9/11 was not a “test” – that took years of planning and was in the works long before the election), Reagan was not tested (as a matter of fact, soon after he was elected, Iran released its American hostages).

YOU are the one with amnesia. Bush cut tax rates across the board – for ALL taxpayers – to the lowest rate since 1991 (for millions of low income taxpayers, that meant their tax liability was suddenly reduced to zero – yes zero). If you are a taxpayer you benefited too. Obama’s plan is to let those cuts EXPIRE for some. McCain’s plan is to simply keep the cuts in place and give extra tax credits to low- and middle-income taxpayers. Why do you feel it’s necessary to mislead people?

John Dramesi, a retired Air Force lieutenant colonel who was also imprisoned in Vietnam, as saying that McCain is undeserving of his reputation.
“McCain says his life changed while he was in Vietnam, and he is now a different man,” Dramesi is quoted as saying. “But he’s still the undisciplined, spoiled brat that he was when he went in.”
Unlike McCain, Dramesi never broke under torture, according to the article. McCain, though, gave more than his name, rank and serial number in return for medical treatment to save his broken arms.
“This business of my country before my life?” Dramesi continues. “Well, he had that opportunity and failed miserably. If it really were country first, John McCain would probably be walking around without one or two arms or legs — or he’d be dead.”

In July 1967, McCain was almost killed in a devastating accident aboard the U.S.S. Forrestal that claimed 134 lives. Instead of fighting to save the ship and his fellow soldiers, McCain flew off the ship with Apple and other reporters to drink and chase women in Saigon, according to Dickinson.
“Ensconced in Apple’s villa in Saigon, McCain and The Times reporter forged a relationship that would prove critical to the ambitious pilot’s career in the years ahead,” Dickinson writes. “Apple effectively became the charter member of McCain’s media ‘base,’ an elite corps of admiring reporters who helped create his reputation for ‘straight talk.’”

gtrmaniac49:
First, no offense, but not every person who doesn’t agree with McCain’s campaign tactics is a liberal. That is a view that disappoints me about many people who are pro-McCain, and a point i was trying to make earlier (name-calling propaganda).
Secondly, Obama’s tax plan would simply take tax breaks out that Bush instilled and put them back to pro-Bush levels. I think the argument is that it is not a “punishment” as many people are calling it, but a way to balance where the government gets money. The idea is that if you’re earning over 250k, going back to that level won’t break you – you’ll still have plenty of money to spend, and it would allow a tax cut for the middle class, who would then (ideally) have more money to spend.
The issue was enveloped by rhetoric, once again, of people who work hard to get to that place being “punished” and such, but in reality it is a small percentage of Americans, which means that the top 5% aren’t the ONLY ones working hard to build themselves up, and that the majority of people that do aren’t getting to that level, so they will be helped by the plan.
I think it’s ridiculous that people (who probably aren’t even making that much) go on boards and talk about hardworking Americans being punished by this. It’s one thing if you are in that tax bracket and don’t want more of your money going to the government, then you have an argument.
And another propagandist slogan is that the money will go to the poor and those unwilling to work, an often-used point by those who just don’t want their money going to the government. Federal money goes to SOOOOO many different programs, from welfare to the environmental protection agency.
The responsibility Americans have is to vote for laws and representatives that will use our tax money well, and stop thinking about taxes so negatively. They can be very beneficial is used correctly. And I bet a few people are already thinking of calling me a socialist, but that’s just another name you can label someone you don’t agree with. The fact is that no government or economic system is perfect and propaganda against one or another prevents us from finding a useful, balanced structure and getting everyone’s needs met.

Posted by: Try and get it right | October 24, 2008, 1:12 pm 1:12 pm

Its pretty obvious what Biden was referring to. To stick to the Iraq timetable they have proposed, they will have to start a more aggressive draw-down of troops asap. This will initially embolden the terrorists and violence would increase. At that point the unpopular response would be to continue the draw-down in the face Republican “I told you so’s.” I hate to say it but this is THE ONLY WAY to get the Iraqi goverment off their arses. They need to take responsibility for protecting their own country with their own troops and money and stop squabbling about who is in power. Otherwise the Iraqis will do little since they have free, indefinite US protection.

Aryn – I agree that paying taxes shouldn’t be viewed as “punishment” – paying taxes is an obligation we all share and most people agree that low-income people should be exempt from paying taxes while still receiving the benefits of tax-funded services (free education, access to roads, emergency services, and all the other wonderful things our tax dollars fund). The issue is that the top 5 percent of tax payers already pay a greater percentage then low and middle income workers – they also account for the bulk of donations to charities and nonprofit organizations. In a slow economy, the goal should be to tax them less or the same (certainly not more!) so that everyone’s money keeps flowing.
Let’s say I make $300,000 a year and pay 30 percent in taxes, donate 10 percent, and spend another 10 percent on domestic help. If my income is going to be taxed more – another 3-10 percent, and the economy is going to slow down, I’m going to make cuts somewhere else. Chances are I’m going to shop less, donate less and perhaps even cut back on my domestic staff, meaning somebody is suddenly out of a job. Raising the taxes of top wage earners does not just effect top wage earners.

Mike NC – no. I don’t believe the US government had any involvement with 911. I don’t blame Clinton or Bush – I’m just saying that it was a well-coordinated plot that took years to plan. I think most people believe that. It was an attack on the US – not an administration. Biden said this new crisis would be a test of Obama and his “mettle” – that’s completely different. That’s an attack based on who’s in charge.

Putting the tax rate for those Making over $250,000 back to where it was under Clinton will not hurt the economy….
giving tax breaks to those making less than $250,000 will help the economy cashing up 95% of Americans will put more money in the hands of people who will then spend it and it will make all of the economy grow!
Come on its not rocket science!

Mike NC – sorry, but historical statistics on the correlation between taxes and charitable giving and employment rates back up my position – not yours. When taxes are raised, people give less and they cut back. Right now, with nonprofits and charities so overloaded (many are turning people away) no body’s taxes should be raised – nobody’s. We need to encourage people to keep giving and keep employing people. I’m all for more tax cuts for middle and low income wage earners – but I am opposed to raising anyone’s taxes right now.

ROFLMAO.
Because the New Party claimed him as a member in a news letter that was mysteriously found by right wing bloggers?!?
The DLC claimed Obama was a member too even though he never joined.
They had to remove his name from the list.
That is to say if the New Party ever claimed Obama as a member because we know right wingers are liars.

Melissa, it’s definitely a catch 22, but that’s the state America is in. The focus on spending, spending, spending on things we don’t necessarily need, the war, economic crisis, etc has led us to a place where we still need money to run the country but we’re in a recession and already have a deficit. People can agree or not agree where to get the money from, but this is what I see as Obama’s plan. Even if people spend right now, our car companies aren’t competitive, the house market is teeter-tottering… the Obama plan isn’t some kind of quick fix, the recession is here and will continue regardless of who is elected. And maybe it is a sacrifice for the top 5% to give a little more for a while.
Americans forget all of the rationing AVERAGE, everyday people had to do during war time in the 40′s. The government asked people to give and give up things to get through tough times so we could come out stronger, and it worked for a while. The tax money would go to funding better public schools (sorry, we need them, vouchers or not), and rewarding people for service. And I’m not just spewing rhetoric, I tutor in public schools and see the need and have looked into doing Americore, applied for the Peace Corps and will be leaving in Janurary, so I won’t even be here for the first 2 years of whoever’s presidency.
I just like those plans and where I think Obama wants to put the funds. I like that he continually asks people to give back and be responsible for themselves, and maybe that is why people are so inspired. Sorry if it seems like it’s asking a lot of the top 5%, but as I said I think the idea is that they can survive it and still be lucrative and we can have long term success for the country in that way.

Come on now !
Lower-income earners are the more altruistic group, as they tend to give away a greater share of their income. People earning less than $25,000 contribute an average of 4.2 percent of their household income to charitable groups, while those making $100,000 or more shell out an average of 2.7 percent of earnings. This trend has been a consistent finding of Washington, D.C.-based Independent Sector, a nonprofit organization that has been tracking charitable giving since 1987.
Lower earners donate more of there income and there are more people on lower income!
Sorry you dont have facts on your side!

I have already cast my vote for Obama. I am an American living overseas. While there is considerable question as to Obamas ability to be commander in chief and his tax policies, I am hoping that he will impact and change America. I hope that he does raise the taxes on the wealthy and those large corporations. Raising taxes will hopefully make a big change on American businesses. Make them less competitive.
Make them less competitive compared to my overseas companies and give me much more access to the American market. Obama promises me the ability to sell more of my goods into the US market and I can sit overseas here and pay very little tax compared to the good ol USA.
Voting for McCain is not good for us Americans with overseas companies. He will cut into our profits.

The reason the rest of the world is so keen to have Obama as president is because they know that when he is challenged he will cave. He does not believe America has the right to do what it is doing in the world. Just like Rev. Wright, Obama believes America is wrong. So, why should he defend America if challenged?
I suspect that foreign governments, like Iran, are so keen for Obama to win that they are the source of those millions in undislosed contributions of his. How can Obama rake in so many dollars in contributions? Probably because the contributions are coming from well-healed Iranians, Saudis, etc.

It’s really funny that people here are so divorced from reality on fiscal/tax policy. The intelligence level of so many comments here is so low that it is probably a waste of time to even write this.
But since someone asked about “the other side’s” view on taxes, I thought I’d respond (even though I’m not a Democrat).
What seems to be totally absent from the debate on taxes today is that when you reduce taxes you are lowering government revenues and increasing the budget deficit and thereby increasing the national debt (now running at $10 trillion).
It’s not so simple to say, “oh, I’m going to cut taxes”. In our current budget reality, when you lower tax revenues where does the money come from?
Where does the money come from? Hmmm? It’s borrowed. The Treasury sells T-bills, billions of dollars of which are sold to governments and companies overseas (China and Japan being the largest holders). The U.S. government naturally pays interest to these lenders, which just adds to the deficit and debt.
Whatever a candidate’s plans are for paying for tax cuts, the likelihood of actually them paying for them decreases as the complexity of their plan increases.
So, when you talk about cutting taxes, you are talking about borrowing money (lots of it from Asia) and then giving it to someone (and if there isn’t enough to borrow, then you get the Fed to print some more).
The idea of a tax cut is to stimulate the economy, because why else would you just dig a deeper hole in the deficit and national debt. So who are you going to give the money too? Well, it was tried under Reagan just to lower rates across the board (and granted they were pretty high back then), but what did we see? A ballooning deficit and debt. Same thing under 4 years of Bush, although the large majority of his tax cuts only benefited those in top brackets. And what happened to the deficit, another balloon.
It seems like a lot of folks seem to have forgotten that under Clinton we raised tax rates on the top brackets and saw the longest continued period of economic growth in our history. But Clinton also made some tax cuts that were targeted to incentivise some business activity (capital spending – buying equipment, etc. which has benefits of directly increasing business productivity, etc.).
A lot of people here also seem to forget that John McCain completely rejected George Bush’s tax cuts and called them “irresponsible” because they did exactly what I explained above (although it had the added feature of destroying a budget surplus and reductions that were occuring to our national debt).
So, it’s pretty interesting to see John McCain criticize Obama for turning the clock back on tax rates (on only the top bracket) to what they were under Clinton.
Now you can go on and on about, “Oh, John McCain (or whoever) is going to cut spending…” Well, what exactly is he going to cut. “Oh, he’s going to cut earmarks, yada yada yada”. Well, as has been noted widely, that accounts for $18 billion. The deficit is roughly $455 billion this year.
Neither Obama or McCain have said much about what they are going to cut, as politically no one really wants to hear about that. So that leaves us with what are they saying about tax policy.
I didn’t follow either of these candidates in the primaries, so I’m not so detailed about their tax policies. But essentially Obama says he’s going to pay for his middle class and targeted business tax cuts by raising that top bracket back to the Clinton era
level. So, essentially they are revenue neutral. People get a tax break and there is no net effect on the deficit, although there
McCain doesn’t seem to say where his tax cuts are going to be paid for. According to news reports, his campaign says they will cost $600 billion and pay for them by “ending congressional pork-barrel spending, unnecessary government programs and overhauling entitlement programs such as Medicare and Social Security” (per MSNBC).
So, with McCain he has to come up with essentially $1 trillion in cuts to cover our current deficit AND the effect of his tax cuts. Do you think he will be able to do that in 4 years like he says? If so, there is some very nice property in Florida I want you to take a look at.
McCain’s tax cuts (which in the real world will financed by borrowing money) will be mainly in the form of reducing corporate tax rates.
As I understand it, Obama’s tax cuts will be mainly for individuals making less than $100,000 in taxable income and families below $200,000.
Who do you think needs the biggest break? Corporations which largely reaped record profits in recent years (until the current crisis) or the middle class, which saw their personal income either remain flat or go down under 8 years of George Bush.
To say that one provides more incentive boosts economic activity than the other is a false proposition, because both will provide incentive (to spend, invest, save, etc.) and thus provide benefits to the economy. Those individuals receiving tax breaks can just as well start a business with the tax savings. Or they can invest it in equities if they see bargains. Or buy something they need. See Sam Wyly or Warren Buffet as examples of what $1,000 can do.
What has been proven false through a lot of studies (and recent history) though, is that tax cuts will pay for themselves. John McCain’s “advisors”, like Jack Kemp, I suspect still believe this though because they are unrepentant supply-siders (or trickle down economics subscribers, to use the alternative description).
From my perspective and experience, corporate formation already provides great incentives because there are so many tax advantages and ways for business owners to gain benefits from ownership through the current tax laws.
And who is to say that corporations will spend John McCain’s tax breaks in America and not use it to pay for additional outsourcing of tech and customer service work to India or manufacturing jobs to China and Southeast Asia.
Whatever your belief is about the candidates plans is, it is fairly clear that Barack Obama’s plan seems to be one where it is fairly straightforward as to how it will be paid for.
Buying into John McCain’s requires that you have faith in his ability to squeeze hundreds of billions in savings out of the budget (where the largest components are defense and entitlement programs). And when you talk about cuts to entitlement spending, you’re basically talking about limiting benefits. Or does McCain go back to an idea from the 80′s, like eliminating the Department of Education. I really don’t know how or where he’ll get the cuts.
And having a history with McCain, as a former supporter going back 9 years, I’m not sure I have the sufficient trust in him to subscribe to his faith-based tax policy.
So, there you go. Spam away.

Ok so lets vote Obama, our economic state is already dismal, and he wants to tax the small businesses which is going to cut more jobs which is going to put this country into a depression. Yeah thats what we need to do. Lets tax everyone with a job, and give to the people who are sitting around doing nothing and taking advantage of the government. That does not work for me. The fact is: Obama does not have experience to take over this country, he is not a savior and things will change for the worse if he is put in the white house. NOBAMA!

Oh yes Obama and Biden are great guys.
They mock and ridicule a citizen for asking a simple question.
I think most rational people can see what kind of leaders they will be and in what direction they will lead this country.
I don’t know who is more corrupt–Obama or the media.

Ryan C:
you are parsing…if you are a “fusion” candidate that means being endorsed is as good as being a member…you are on the ticket as a Dem, but you are affiliated with this non-party party…anyway, its worth looking into or at least one question…
Endorsed is bad enough…appearing in a magazine as an “endorsed” candidate with others, shows more than a tangential connection…does it mean nothing?
Reminder…GB showed up at Bob Jones ONCE and everyone came screaming down on him…this is endorsement and possible “membership”
Of course I am familiar with “fusion” candidates. It is a tacit way of opening the door to a more extreme wing of a party into the mainstream section…
However, my point is, no one wants to investigate it and find out…not one question to Obama about it, ever.
Meanwhile, we have a million “facts” about how Joe the Plumber is an imbecile and shouldn’t dare to aspire to a 300K and up a year income…
Ryan, 8 out of 10 people believe the press wants Obama to win…are they wrong? That tells me many Obama supporters admit this, but don’t care…is this wrong? I guess I will just have to learn to shut up and enjoy “paradise,” right?
We get no investigation of Obama’s shadings of the truth…
Wright, Ayers, Klonsky, etc. all legitimate exploration…yet it is “hateful” to discuss these associates.
Ayers dreams of a time when I would be killed in a re-education camp. The fact that academia has accepted him is an indictment of academia, not a certificate of his beneficence.

I’ve heard this plan being floated for the government to take over people’s 401ks and force them to contribute to a government plan instead overseen by the Social Security Administration. Seems the Democrats are very unhappy with people not paying taxes immediately on their 401k contributions and being able to pass the entire amount onto their heirs when they die.
This is being discussed in Washington as we speak. And if Obama wins and the Democrats run the table – like the Republicans did for 6 years – anything is possible.
Total control by one party is never best for America.

“which small businesses are going to be exempt from fines?”
The qualification of being a small business depends on the field. The SBA has a list of size regulations for various industries.

Concerned in Ohio: Nothing about her story was plausible – and anyone who has any connection with young girls would know that.
I feel sorry for the kid and she needs help. But it is a classic example of a right wing blog taking a regional story, turning it into a political episode and trying to both capitalize on the story and link it to the Obama campaign. Even a cursory look at the newspaper made it clear it wasn’t right – young girls want doctors when their faces have been “maimed.” Muggers are almost always addicts and they do not even know who is running for President, much less care. They don’t tend to have perfect penmanship. Victims try to protect their identity – they don’t try to publicize it. In six hours, the marks on this young girl’s face, according to the press went from “maimed: to “carved” to “etched” to “scratched”. The ultra right wing blogs were dying for a story like this, and they made fools of themselves.
Meanwhile, there is still a young girl who needs a whole lot of help – and a culture that somehow made her believe she would be a heroine if she could persuade someone she was a victim for the McCain campaign. She was a victim of the McCain campaign – and their attempt to rip this country apart to win – instead of running on their record and their principles. Perhaps that’s because they left their principles and their honor a long time ago And the only record they can run on is George Bush’s presidency – the worst presidency in US history.

Do the math. Taxing the top 5% an additional 3% won’t begin to pay for Obama’s giveaways.
And taxing businesses more will kill jobs which means there’s even less revenue coming in from the working class.
What do you think will happen then?

I think Biden loses his bearings sometimes and thinks he is still running for president.
Back to the days (a few months ago)when he said Obama was unqualified to be president.
That must be why Biden said Obama will be tested within six months.
Biden is just reminding everyone that BHO is totally unqualified to be president.

How come nobody is pointing out that Bush has the lowest approval rating of any President in the HISTORY OF THE US (Even Nixon had a higher approval rating at his lowest point during Watergate). McCain is running on the Republican Ticket. Bush is a REPUBLICAN. You all beat the drum to get him elected and reelected. He turned out to be the worst president in history. You think that won’t happen with McCain? He voted with him side by side. Whats the difference? Are you Republicans that blind?

-Marylou – a tax cut is a ‘giveaway’?
Why don’t you help me and give me your math on Obama’s plan. Seems fairly straightforward to me.
If you are referencing my post, I said nothing about how he pays for spending programs. I suspect much of McCain and Obama new spending plans are out the window until maybe 2010.
Corporations are not affected by a tax bracket increase, only individuals (and businesses where the owners are netting 250K or more).
You 401(k) story doesn’t hold any water either, nothing even remotely was said by officials at those hearings.
Concerned in Ohio – You are aware that taxes are taken on ‘net income’ not gross revenue. Or, are you just a virtual business owner (in your own mind)?

Ashley Todd, 20-year-old college student from College Station, Texas, admitted Friday that the story was false and was being charged with making a false report to police, said Maurita Bryant, the assistant chief of the police department’s investigations division. Police doubted her story from the start, Bryant said.

Posted by: democratic | October 24, 2008, 3:50 pm 3:50 pm

Marylou
Here is some math for you.
Cost of Obama’s tax cut plan: $294 billion (per one outside estimate).
I’ll make this simple for you. I’ve seen one estimate of 8.3 millionaires in the U.S.
So, just imagining a baseline average income of $1,250,000 = $1,000,000 taxable at 3% = $30,000 per person in taxes.
8,300,000 x $30,000 = $249 billion.
Naturally, there are many people who make well more than one million dollars, so it’s fairly certain that the actual revenue would be well in excess of $294 billion cost.
Or do you not support entrepreneurs?

Nice try by Obama to blow Biden’s comments off as just “rhetorical flourishes”. However, unfortunately for Obama, there was more to the recording. You know, the second half that the MSM has been falling over themselves to sweep under the rug. In the second part, Biden goes on to say that Obama would need their support, not their financial support, but their support within their communities to bolster public acceptance about Obama’s response because it will not appear that Obama has made the right choice at first. So, let me get this straight…for this hypothetical situation that Biden was just making up, Obama already has a plan ready but it will not be popular. Sure. So, either Biden was just talking out of his you know what about some pretty scary stuff, which would be a cause for concern, or he is trying to tell us something, an even bigger cause for concern. I don’t realize how many red herrings all you people need. I don’t know how many times you can be lied to by an Obama campaign and have the MSM sit on their hands and never question anything about him. I suppose he really is the Teflon king. No rules or common sense apply to him. By the way, since we are on this subject, wasn’t it the media that swept many of Bush’s indiscretions under the rug in 2000? Didn’t they print the outlandish statements about Gore being a liar and that he said he invented the internet, that he and Tipper’s romance was put into a novel, etc.? Wasn’t it also the MSM that sold the public on the Iraq war? Thanks, but no thanks. I will be taking my 29 year-old former Democratic junkie self down to vote for John McCain on November 4. Did I also mention I live in Missouri?
He with eyes…look; he with ears…listen!

And the media and others are worried about Palin? “Mark my words”……it will be a sorry state for USA if Biden (God forbid) ever had to step up to serve as our president…..the man has a bad case of diarrhea of the mouth…..crap seems to flow everytime he opens his yap! He spews unintelligible rhetoric here and there and has about as much dignity and social graces as a real live doofus! Sorry, but I don’t want this guy speaking to and offending foreign dignitaries with his off handed predictions of world policies. Frankly, after Biden’s gaffs, Sarah Palin seems more in touch with reality afterall! This dem is voting for McCain. I saw a post here about people making $25,000 a year donate 4.2% of their to charity while those making 100,000 a year only donate 2.7% to charity. Am I completely off base here in that 2.7% of 100,000 is quite a bit more in dollars than 4.2% of 25,000? Using percentages for this example falsely gives the impression that those that make less give more.
Now what I have not heard from either candidate is what happens with someone like me who is single and makes between $120,000 – $150,000 per year? Where do I fall into their tax plans? It always seems like people in my situation are the ones getting stuck with increased tax burdens. I am already getting screwed by the state of CA and the city of Los Angeles so my vote is going to be who saves me more money on the federal level. Recently I received a $15,000 a year raise but only see $500.00 of it per month. That is really messed up.

Posted by: Moral Threat | October 24, 2008, 5:25 pm 5:25 pm

I want to start off by saying that I make considerably less than $250k line that has been talked about. My problem is…why should I believe that Barack Obama will give us a tax cut when he has NEVER supported tax cuts in his entire political career? Even if he did do something he never did before and give the tax cut he proposes, I would much rather keep my job than get a few hundred dollars more on my refund (and why is my “hard earned” money being given as a tax credit check to the welfare class that don’t pay taxes and refuse to get a job). Finally, Obama’s tax hikes on businesses making 250K or more will be IMMEDIATELY transferred to the costumer which means more money comes out of my “middle class” pocket. I can see more businesses closing and more people losing jobs with this strategy. To me… Obama’s tax plan sounds terrible and appears to be socialistic with an agenda of taking care of welfare recipients (not surprisingly a group that is strongly represented by minorities). I think Obama’s plan will further push the American economy toward a depression.
I am not an economic guru… so I am open to hearing someone make sense or a logical argument against how I am seeing Obama’s plan. To me… the capitalistic system seems the best because it encourages new businesses. I think the problem was… we just had a bunch of greedy idiots running the government. When I say government…I am talking about George W. Bush and “democratic controlled” Congress (with both republicans and democrats bearing the responsibility for this disastrous mess we are in).

McCain’s ads just make me want to vomit. Almost all of the bad images that he shows in his ads are terrible things that happened while his good buddy Bush was in office. McCain is just more of the same of that. We need new blood, new direction. At least we know Obama does want to end the war and wants to negotiate diplomacy and peace. McCain wasn’t even talking about ending the war until he saw that it was advantageous for him to do so, and this was after Obama was pushing for it. McCain is SICKNING!!!! We can’t apologize because the Republicans have shown that they just don’t know what they’re doing. And first and foremost they don’t know how to listen to the American people. So we’re not going to apologize nor back down from what people are voting for. If people vote for more Dems then maybe that’s a sign, a sign that you’re not doing such a great job!! Section 1076 of the John Warner National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2007 changed the name of the key provision in the statute book from “Insurrection Act” to “Enforcement of the Laws to Restore Public Order Act.” The Insurrection Act of 1807 stated that the president could deploy troops within the United States only “to suppress, in a State, any insurrection, domestic violence, unlawful combination, or conspiracy.” The new law expands the list to include “natural disaster, epidemic, or other serious public health emergency, terrorist attack or incident, or other condition” — and such “condition” is not defined or limited. . . . “Martial law” is a euphemism for military dictatorship. When foreign democracies are overthrown and a junta establishes martial law, Americans usually recognize that a fundamental change has occurred. . . . Section 1076 is Enabling Act-type legislation—something that purports to preserve law-and-order while formally empowering the president to rule by decree.
Geo Bush has already empolyed the troops in these manuevers. We would not have thought a coup possible in the US a few years ago.The thought today is because of a economic depression and Obama’s forced solcialist gov’t. The troops are not loyal to an Obama presidency and when they take control he will be deposed of power and a forced gov’t be implemented.

Say what you will about George W. Bush, there is one single fact that is indisputable. Since 9/11/2001 we have not been attacked again by any other of the extremist Islamo-facists who murdered our fellow citizens on that tragic day.
And, we would be very wise to heed Joe Biden’s words and warnings about the election of his running mate, Senator Obama, and his impending “test” if elected. If our enemies know that Obama is not likely to do anything to retaliate if they attack us, are they really that likely to hold back in doing so?

If anyone thinks that an erratic 72 year-old who irresponsibly selected an unprepared, egotistical small-time governor (who just could possibly end up president) won’t get tested early, they’re delusional.

I am starting to worry about Biden as much as I am Palin. Talk about McCain being erratic and impulsive, maybe Biden’s age is starting to show also or we need more reviewal of his medical records. Maybe it’s just his arrogance getting the best of him. A gaffe is one thing and some of Joe’s stuff I find kind of amusing but it’s continual.
Clinton as Obama’s VP candidate is looking much, much more like that would have been the better decision at this point. What was Biden thinking? I know he’s best friends with McCain and is he trying to help him out or something? A couple weeks before the electin and he points out that their will be an international crisis intended to test Obama and that the American public won’t be happy with the
Obama administration’s response but we should stick with him? What the heck does that mean? Maybe it means we should vote McCain. I’ve come to the conclusion I don’t want either Palin or Biden as potentially my President. Poor choices on both Obama and McCain’s part. Heaven forbid Obama needs a 3 hour surgery down the road or something because Biden will be another Haig, 3 hours while he’s running the show- look out.
