Obama: ‘Don’t Underestimate Our Ability to Screw it Up’

NEW YORK, N.Y. — At 11:25 pm ET this evening, at the Hammerstein Ballroom, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., thanked Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, John Legend and India Arie for participating in a fundraising concert benefiting the Obama Victory Fund.

"What a magical evening," Obama said, "which I will not spoil with a long speech."

After speaking for a bit to the crowd about issues, Obama urged his supporters to get to work for his election.

"Don’t underestimate the capacity of Democrats to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory," Obama said. "Don’t underestimate our ability to screw it up."

"I want everybody running scared. Over the next 18 days, other than your family and your job, I want you to make a decision that there is nothing more important than bringing about this change that we need."

Boy Obama is so right. I just read about the vitriol that the Republicans are sending out in mass mailings and the vile robo calls that are hitting every battleground state.
I don’t understand why the Republicans always seem to be fighting against Americans. Doing whatever they can to divide us.
I will knock on as many doors as I can between now and Nov. 4th, to make sure people don’t start believing the lies that they are spreading fast and furiously.
It’s sad, because when McCain loses, he has given away all of his honor and the reputation he once had. I think he will just be a shell of a man when this is over.

no, senator mccain is an honorable man. its just his campaign was run by karl rove people and it likely will cost him the election. but again, the focus is for obama supporters to not get complacent and take things for granted. the polls mean nothing without the VOTE!!!

no folks, we dont need any more mccain bashing. its all about focusing on the vote. spread the word, the polls mean nothing without the vote!!!

The vote supression campaign is in full swing. If you can manage it DONT do an absentee ballot. Vote early, especially if you are a new registration. DONT let them give you a provisional ballot, most of them are worthless. See a judge if you have to, they can write an order so you can cast a real vote.,

thats right mike, its down to the wire and i have been told to repeat the message, the polls mean nothing without the vote!!!

It took Lettermans late night show..comedy..to bring up McCains connection to Gordon Liddy. So why hasnt ABC done so. You are eager to bring up Ayers everyday, why not Liddy??? Hardly seems fair!!

Posted by: Dee | October 17, 2008, 12:45 am 12:45 am

I’ve been waiting for Obama to say this exact thing. Don’t take anything for granted Dems. Obama needs every single vote. That’s how we stop the Republicans from stealing the election. (remember 2000) We overwhelm them at the polls, making it impossible.

I’ll never forget what Paul Begala said in late Oct., 1992 when Clinton had opened up a lead on Bush Sr. “He’s down on the canvas and we can’t let him get back up. We’ve got to drive a stake through him.” With the issues and honest campaigning, McCain and the BushGOPers must be finished off once and for all, all the way to Nov. 4. The country cannot afford to even contemplate another 4 years like the last 8! Most important election of our lives, stakes never higher.

Mccain/Palin
Liddy is irrelevant as apopposed to ACORN who is under real investigation for voter registration fruad… Tom Brockaw has given money to the cause etc a lot of people like me lied in survey and today started votign in droves for Mccain and there isnt anything you can do about it

Looks like Indiana is going to be a central battle in the right to vote. Republicans are trying to shut down early voting centers there.
Republicans in Michigan (and maybe Ohio) are attempting to use forclosure lists to deny people the right to vote. That is of course illegal, since people often remain in their homes long after a foreclosure.
Colorado is using a confusing registration form to purse thousands of people who actually filled out the form correctly! Colorado also is using an untested voter database and may have serious problems with their machines.
Virginia is trying to intimidate students who are legally registered to vote at their campus addresses.
Colorado and New Mexico dont have enough voting machines.
This is going to be an all out mess.

At least in 2000 we were in court after the election. Today, the US Supreme Court is being asked to settle a dispute in Ohio regarding 200,000 1st time voter registrations.
I found out the RNC have been harrassing Jennifer Brunner, the Democratic Ohio Sec. of State for quite some time.
According to the Washington Post, Brunner and the GOP have gone to court 8 times on various issues, “including how to handle absentee ballot requests and absentee voting” during the present presidential election cycle.
A Republican presided over the election process in Ohio during the 2004 Presidential election.
Has the voting system under Republican control in Ohio changed so drastically under Brunner’s leadership to warrant 8 trips in court and now the intervention of the US Supreme Court? I don’t think so!
“In 2004, a margin of about 118,000 votes won the state for President Bush and left a trail of bitterness over decisions made by Kenneth Blackwell, the Republican secretary of state at the time. During that race, Republicans dropped a plan to challenge more than 30,000 voters just days before the election.”
The RNC plotted, planned are are making a strong-armed attempt to disenfranchise
Democratic voters in Ohio on November 4, 2008.
All of the rhetoric about ACORN is a diversionary tactic used to divert attention from the RNC’s plan to tip the scales in their favor.
It’s beyond dirty politics…It’s UnAmerican.

Clarity
nope its not dirty poltics and its not voter fraud its voter registration fraud and its real because ACORN is a poor persons welfare givign questionable people jobs to do one of the most imporant things.. register voters… I know this whole thing started with people like you plottign to take down Joe Lieberman in 2006 and that backfired … so will this!

Posted by: JG | October 17, 2008, 1:33 am 1:33 am

The Ohio list is a fiasco. Thousands of peoples info doesnt match in different state and federal databases. People registered as ‘Dave’ would be removed from the voter rolls if they are listed as ‘David’ in the federal database. Names like ‘Sam’, ‘John’ and ‘Bob’ would also trigger removal. This is totally ridiculous.

Posted by: Mike | October 17, 2008, 1:36 am 1:36 am

McCain and the Republican Party make me ill.
They are over the top with the smear. I did not think it would get so bad, but it is the sign of the times that there is nothing one can do that will offend the far right.
It is my hope that this backfires so bad that we never see this kind of thing again.
There is nothing Christian in this.

It’s great Obama has energy and enthusiasm and optimism. But when your country’s reputation is in the toilet, its economy is in tatters, it’s engaged in two wars, in a recession, why on earth would its people trust someone who has no relationships with world leaders, no experience in negotiating with those from the other party, and has polarized his own party so much that 35% of it state they will never vote for him? We need someone with the experience and gravitas to solve these problems now. Not just hope and dream about them.

Carla Marinucci reports in today’s San Francisco Chronicle “In last night’s debate, Sen. John McCain suggested that ACORN (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now) was responsible for massive voter fraud that could destroy ”the fabric of democracy.”
Now the leaders of the community organizing group have emerged with an aggressive effort to push back.
“In a conference call …
ACORN organizers this morning [told reporters] that Sen. Barack Obama, as a local elected official in Chicago, participated in two training sessions for 50 volunteer leaders.
Oopsies! Does this mean ACORN is calling Obama a liar? Sure sounds like it!
In addition, he and his law firm represented a group of plantiffs, including ACORN, regarding motor votor registration issues. They said his campaign has also provided about $80,000 in funding to an independent consulting group, which in turn provided some funding to ACORN to get out the vote.

Its Obama that allowed John Mccain to get away with the Joe the plumber issue. Obama tax policy is better but he is not explaining it. Trickle down economics do not work. Even if Joe the plumber was earning 300000 dollars, he will fare better under an Obama administration. With more people getting more under the Obama tax policy, there will be more money chasing goods and services, more money to pay for groceries, more money to buy a cup of coffee, more money to buy a plate of food, more money to pay for gas, more money to put in the banks, more money to pay for your bills and more money to be earned for the Government based on all these services. Thats why the Clinton administration was successful. Mccain surely do not understand Economics but Obama who understands little needs to get someone to break this down to everyone. If he just continues by saying the trickle down economics does not work, people just dont understand that language and thats why he needs to break it down. He should be thrashing Mccain on taxes but to allow Mccain to even be competing shows he is not debating that issue very well.

Posted by: vuzous | October 17, 2008, 6:02 am 6:02 am

Obama is an illegal alien (a citizen of Indonesia) & ineligible to run for the presidency. He refuses to turn over his birth certificate to prove otherwise & the DNC has been backing him all along. It will all be revealed very soon.
Thank God!

Posted by: Susan | October 17, 2008, 6:03 am 6:03 am

And when you have more people chasing goods and services, more jobs are created. Mccains tax policy is the same as George Bush but why are the jobs not being created? We have lost more jobs than gained. It will be foolish to continue the same tax policy. Moreover, Mccains tax policy is silly. you borrow from China so that big corporations can have a tax break. To me that doesnt make any sense.

Posted by: vuzous | October 17, 2008, 6:08 am 6:08 am

gregh,
“Joe the Plumber” showed what a fraud “Joe the Plumber” is. Starting with the fact he’s not even a licensed plumber. The guy who owns the company he works for isn’t a licensed plumber. He’s owes back taxes. He’s nowhere close to “buying” a business. He would in fact benefit from Obama’s tax plan, not McCain’s, and he’s a registered Republican. Not exactly how he represented himself now is it? Seems “Joe the Plumber” in actuality is really just “Joe the Republican”.

OBAMA – Turn over your birth certificate!
What are you hiding from the American people?

Posted by: John | October 17, 2008, 6:12 am 6:12 am

I live in a “battleground” state and I get home to a message from the McCain people about every other day. So far every message was a FACT, not a lie. They may be FACTS people on the Obama side prefer not to hear so they call them lies.

Posted by: Jack | October 17, 2008, 6:22 am 6:22 am

Vuzous,
The reason John McCain is competing is because there are people that won’t vote for Barack Obama no matter what. There are people who after all this time STILL think as the woman at McCain’s rally stated, “He’s an Arab”. There are people who will never vote for a blak man. There are people who think that an 8 yr. old Obama, is some how responsible for William Ayers. This is why McCain is still “competing”, if you want to call it that. After Ronald Reagan, George Bush I, and George Bush II, anybody that doesn’t “understand” that trickle down economics doesn’t work, is brain dead. “Explaining” it isn’t going to change anybody’s mind. Obama has explained his plan very well, and there are still people who think McCain has a better one. Even though the experts agree people will pay LESS taxes under Obama’s plan, than McCain’s. George Bush I called it “voodoo economics” when he ran against Reagan. Only to change his tune once he was tapped to be VP.

Posted by: Randy | October 17, 2008, 6:24 am 6:24 am

“trickle down” has always been a bad descriptor.
Obama’s plan puts more low per capita amounts in the hands of the masses (lower/middle income households) while taking substantive amounts away from businesses. The ability of the masses to prop up retail and other consumer-based sectors is tempered by the fact of rising operational costs … including higher taxes on companies.
And, it doesn’t do much to impact businesses that operate at a different level (ex., pharma cos with high R&D, B2B cos, etc).
Raising corporate taxes will only make the US the #1 most expensive place for businesses (currently at #2).
Apart from manufacturing companies with intensive facilities/plant structures in the US, what keeps those companies HQed in the US or makes them invest more in the US?
It’s easy to talk about “shipping jobs overseas” but if a company decides to grow its business in Latin America, Europe or AsiaPac because its more cost-effective, it’s not shipping US jobs overseas, its creating LatinAm/Euro/AP jobs.
Can another new/startup company fill the gap in the US? In some cases, perhaps. In others, barriers to market entry and the path to profitability will be too high/burdensome.
It’s easy to make companies the bad guy; the Dems have lived off that for years. Yes, they exist to make a profit But, companies also provide employment, health care (even more under Obama), education (via tutition assistance programs), and retirement benefits (via 401(k) and matching contributions in some cases) Limit their ability to achieve profit/growth, you naturally limit their ability to provide employment, health care, education, etc.

Susan,
Wait…let me get this right…factcheck.org is run by the Obama campaign? I’m sure they would be very suprised to hear that, since they consider themselves a non-partisan fact checking site. I think you have factcheck.org confused with Obama’s stopthesmears site. Perhaps you should fact check that.

Posted by: Randy | October 17, 2008, 6:29 am 6:29 am

Couple of things:
1. All this talk about ACORN – Did you know that JOHN MCCAIN was the keynote speaker at a 2006 ACORN conference?
2. I recently heard the Todd and Sarah Palin are being investigated for receiving kick backs on some contract work for the sports complex in Wasilla. You know, I think TODD PALIN is the real power monger in the family. He knows that Sarah has the charm and looks, but he’s the one that is in control and is power hungry.

Posted by: Blue in Michigan | October 17, 2008, 6:35 am 6:35 am

Biz,
It is indeed “shipping jobs overseas”, and I’m sure a lot of out of work Americans would agree with me. I used to work for Xerox Corp. Here in Rochester NY. I made a very good living, as did my co-workers. They shut down several manufacturing lines here, layed off thousands of workers, including myself, and shipped the jobs to China, and Mexico. Now Mexico isn’t “overseas”, but the effect was the same.

Posted by: Randy | October 17, 2008, 6:35 am 6:35 am

Randy,
FactCheck. org is run by The “Annenberg Group”. Does that ring any bells with you? Bill Ayers? Don’t you see a huge conflict of interest there? If not, run a google check on “Annenberg Group Obama” & read about it.
They’re NOT non-partisan!

Posted by: Susan | October 17, 2008, 6:35 am 6:35 am

Why does Obama worry about being elected?
He’s got his ACORN group, and it’s spin off groups hiring felons to get out the vote. Imagine grandma facing a man at her door who’s prison nick name is “The Ice Pick”. 200K phoney registrations in Ohio, the state of Wisconsin refusing to obey federal law to weed through the phoney registrations. In fact, if I remember right, at least 13 states have proof of phoney registrations. I loved the one of the 89 year old woman with Alzheimers being registered 4 times or the seven year old girl being registered 17 times. With hwelp like that even a no experience friend of terrorist can get elected.

Posted by: Jack | October 17, 2008, 6:43 am 6:43 am

Randy – If Xerox only sold products into US markets and only had American investors, then maybe you’ve got an argument for “shipping” jobs away. What makes them American jobs? What makes Xerox an American company?
By one interpretation of your logic, any foreign company which buys a US company should be free to move their jobs out of the US and any company which sells into the US (ex., Toyota, Honda) should keep their jobs in their native countries.
That’s not how businesses should, or do, work.

Posted by: Biz | October 17, 2008, 6:46 am 6:46 am

Jack,
Maybe you didn’t see my post just a few down from yours.
John McCain did was the keynote speaker at an ACORN conference in 2006.
McCain campaign won’t get involved with this story because his hands are all over it too.

Posted by: Blue in Michigan | October 17, 2008, 6:51 am 6:51 am

Susan,
Berg may be a life long Democrat, but if you think that there aren’t Democrats who would never vote for Obama, and who wouldn’t do anything to discredit him, then you haven’t been following the primaries, or this campaign very closely. I am familiar with the Anneberg Foundation, once chaired by Barack Obama. Are you aware that the foundation head Mrs. Anneberg is a life long Republican that has endorsed John McCain? Apparently the ties between, the foundation, and Obama aren’t as strong as you’d like to think.

Posted by: Randy | October 17, 2008, 6:53 am 6:53 am

Why is it McCain brings up Ayers every chance he gets? But when questioned about Liddy or Keating it’s a different. His answer on Liddy ‘he served his time”, Keating ‘cleared’ – was he.
Very touchy – he can say what he wants, but don’t say anthing to him. He talks about dirty ads – he has run plenty of them. What about his “glorious” running mate, did nothing to stop hecklers.
What are the issues? McCain doesn’t seem to know, nor does Palin.
Are any of you listening to what’s going on?

Posted by: km | October 17, 2008, 6:57 am 6:57 am

Randy,
It all comes down to this. . . .
What is OBAMA hiding? I think you need to ask yourself that.
Why does he refuse to release his birth certificate in the case Berg v Obama? Wouldn’t it be really simple & politically wise to settle this case ASAP? Why does he refuse to release his medical records? His college records? You don’t find that peculiar? You’re running for the highest office in the land & REFUSE to produce a copy of your own birth certificate? Would you want to vote for someone (for President) that’s unwilling (& apparently unable) to produce his legal birth certificate?
The rest of us Americans have to prove who we are. Why doesn’t he? Is he above the law & the Constitution?
If he’s not a natural born, he’s ineligible. Simple as that.

Watch almost any political talk show and you will hear a Democratic strategist or campaign person enthusiastically state that the deregulation of the banking industry meant that no one was watching Wall Street for you. Barack Obama has even used the refrain ”deregulation by the Republicans” to point a finger about the mortgage crisis.
From Ken Moyes Blog.
Well deregulation did occur and it did change things in the banking industry. First some background. Until 1999, banks were restricted to certain businesses, Bill Clinton and a Republican Congress jointly deregulated the banking business. An example is that they could not enter into the insurance or brokerage business. Other factors were at play, such as interstate banking and states’ deregulation of banking. Non-bank insurance companies and brokerage houses were actively offering money market checking accounts. The sum of these changes placed banks at a disadvantage, since other non-regulated companies were divvying up the limited areas where bankers could operate. For a more detailed read try The Case for Banking Deregulation or The Real Effects of U.S. Banking Deregulation.
Thus deregulation. Did this mean that banks would no longer be regulated? No. Did this mean that bank regulators would go away? No. It simply meant that banks could enter brokerage, insurance, and other businesses to a modest degree, with restrictions. This deregulation had nothing to do with the mortgage businesses of any bank or non-bank financial lending company.
Either the Democrats know this and choose to mislead you – not good, or do not know this and do not know what they are talking about – worse. The real problem, about which no one talks, was the intensity to which Democrats and with a modicum of Republican support fell in love with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. This seemed like the perfect vehicle for helping people of low income obtain a home. This was the populists’ greatest tool. Not only did Fannie and Freddie have an appetite for mortgage paper with lower credit requirements, they also had an appetite for lower equity requirements and to buy securitized mortgage assets. Thus the subprime mortgage lending business was born. The Achilles Heel of the subprime business was value of collateral. As long as the collateral remained valued at or higher than the loan, it could be liquidated easily with minimum loss.
As the subprime lending business began to not only heat up, but to overheat, the demand for homes began to become intense, raising the sale prices and values precipitously. Now the good part. Lenders using collateral guidelines began to anticipate the future value of homes and created zero down lending with borrowed down payments, via a line of credit – ingenious, except that if the value of real estate faltered with a faltering economy, the house of cards would come tumbling down. It happened. This problem became so accute that the Bush administration five years ago asked Congress to reign in their twin prodigies, Fannie and Freddie, with regulation – the Democrats in the House and Senate blocked the effort. Now let’s look at a primary cause of today’s financial meltdown. Bad mortgage paper, due to undercollateralized loans, bought by investment houses and resold to investors as securitized mortgage assets represents nearly 2+% of our GDP. The government had no choice but to step in or our economy, our dollar, and our standard of living would follow the bad mortgages down the proverbial tubes.
How did this happen? Look to the Democrats more than to Republicans. Democrats were in love and some were in bed with Fannie and Freddie. Barack Obama cannot explain away the league leading MVP type of the size of contributions his campaigns received – now and in the past, from both of the these institutions and their leadership. Chris Dodd has much explaining to do about his personal sweetheart mortgage, especially considering his position on the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs.
Please note that when the Democrats get their hand caught in that political cookie jar, their standard procedure for being Teflon, is to loudly blame a target scape goat. They did this when their environmental positions about drilling for oil placed this country into an energy vise. Then they blamed big oil. They are now screaming about deregulation causing the mortgage meltdown. !999 banking deregulation had nothing to do with the mortgage crisis. Yet, the new target scape goat is Republican deregulation of the banking industry. Remember, the banking industry was deregulated in a bipartisan way between the Republicans and Bill Clinton. That deregulation had nothing to do with the type of mortgages being made.
Some, so eager to point to banking deregulation as the cause of the mortgage crisis, fail to understand that the The Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000, was the act that mostly affected these swaps. This bill was signed into law in 2000 by President Bill Clinton. Read more on this at The Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000.
The International Herald Tribune has a good article on credit swaps. It can be found at Obscure, large and arcane, credit default swaps face a big test.

Ann…Joe the Plumber didn’t stand up for America, he was scamming America. Ayone who belives otherwise needs a brain vacuum, or maybe they already had one.
The last debate showed a lot of things, mostly that John McCain can lie like the best of them. I especially like the continuing lie that Obama started his campaign in the living room of a “terrorist.” (Obama’s campaign actually started in a Ramada Inn.) McCain’s factual accuracy went down fro there. We need a change and the two Mavericks aren’t the ones to make the needed changes. We don’t need a President with no integrity and a VP with even less. We need Obama and Biden.

Randy,
Joe the plumber asked a simple question when Obama came in to his neighbourhood.
Obama fumbled on it.
Now Obama has let the media and his supporters go after the guy, and what did he do?
Just ask Obama a simple question and Obama came up with a embarrasing answer.

Posted by: Greg h | October 17, 2008, 7:45 am 7:45 am

Randy, Lets not forget the MOST important part about Joe the Plumber, he just happens, by mere coincidence of course, to be one of the KEATING 5 mccain criminal groups members son. Things that make you go hmmmmmm…

Posted by: mitch | October 17, 2008, 7:45 am 7:45 am

Ann, what the Obaambots have done to Joe is typical Obot tactics. they villify anyone who threatens the image of Obama. Where is the change in all of this? This is why I think they will lose in the end.
Obama has now turned his Obots on programs like Hannity and Rush, and O’reilly, Laura Ingram. Notice how Obama takes jabs at Fox news. Fox news leans right and does not join in on the Obama media love fest so now Obama wants to take them out. If Obama gets elected expect to see censorship of the media.
Obama’s was on this path way back with Alice Plamer in Chicago. If you get in Obama’s way he finds a method to destroy you. Joe the plumber was a threat so the minions of Obots dig up dirt on him. Sarah Palin was a threat so the Obots rent sled dogs and trek to Alaska.
I don’t care if Joe the plumber was a felon. He asked Obama a question and Obama gave a socialist answer. That will never be erased.

Mitch…it wasn’t Obama that brought up Joe the Plumber, it was McCain, so instead of blaming Obama for “setting the media dogs” onto Joe, it’s McCain’s bumbling answer to a question about the economy that turned on the media dogs. AND it was McCain that used “Je the Plumber” 23 times during the debate, not Obama. You really need to get your fact straight. BTW…Obama didn’t force Joe the Plumber to forget paying his 2007 taxes or default on his medical bills. Furthermore, did you now that Joe the Plumber was the son a Keating 5 member…something that McCain knew because he was part of the Keating 5 fraud that brought down the Savings and Loan industry and created the big recession of the 1980s. As Davide Letterman says…this whole thing about Joe the Plumber smells and the odor is coming from the McCain/Palin camp.

Why is media not asking such questions.

alwater,
How did the media get Joe’s tax records?
Isn’t he entitled to privacy?
Anyway Joe is just a average guy and Obama came to his street!!
Joe is not running for President.
Why is media so obsessed about him.
The media is in Obama’s pockets as it is very obvious, they are after a private citizen for the simple reason he asked Obama a question.

Posted by: Greg h | October 17, 2008, 7:59 am 7:59 am

The shameless media once again harrasses a simple American Joe because Obama fumbled his answer to the question.

Susan is RIGHT. Annenberg was a close friend of Ronald Reagan’s, who donated over $10 Million to The Reagan Foundation

OBAMA is an illegal alien that cannot even produce his own birth certificate to verify that he’s eligible to be running for office. He’s not natural born. He’s is a total FRAUD.
Berg v Obama
There are several other lawsuits that are popping up around the nation. All Americans want is proof that the guy is who he says he is. Obama refuses to provide the necessary documentation.
PS. The fake “registration of birth” that Obama provided on his website is NOT a legal birth certificate. Please do your homework before you fall for this fraud. He’s a scam artist.

HERE ANN:
George Gordon Battle Liddy (born November 30, 1930) was the chief operative for the White House Plumbers unit that existed during several years of Richard Nixon’s Presidency. Along with E. Howard Hunt, Liddy masterminded the first break-in of the Democratic National Committee headquarters in the Watergate building in 1972. The subsequent cover-up of the Watergate scandal led to Nixon’s resignation in 1974; Liddy served four and a half years in prison for his role in the burglary.
Liddy later became an American radio talk show host, actor and political strategist. Liddy’s radio talk show is now syndicated in 160 markets and on both Sirius Satellite Radio and XM Satellite Radio stations in the United States. He has also been a guest panelist for Fox News Channel in addition to appearing in a cameo role or as a guest celebrity talent in several television shows.

Seems you left the bad parts out.
“As Media Matters for America has noted, Liddy served four and a half years in prison in connection with his conviction for his role in the Watergate break-in and the break-in at the office of the psychiatrist of Daniel Ellsberg, the military analyst who leaked the Pentagon Papers.
Liddy has acknowledged preparing to kill someone during the Ellsberg break-in “if necessary”; plotting to murder journalist Jack Anderson; plotting with a “gangland figure” to murder Howard Hunt to stop him from cooperating with investigators; plotting to firebomb the Brookings Institution; and plotting to kidnap “leftist guerillas” at the 1972 Republican National Convention — a plan he outlined to the Nixon administration using terminology borrowed from the Nazis. (The murder, firebombing, and kidnapping plots were never carried out; the break-ins were.)
During the 1990s, Liddy reportedly instructed his radio audience on multiple occasions on how to shoot Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms agents and also reportedly said he had named his shooting targets after Bill and Hillary Clinton.”

We all know now that Joe the Plummer is actually a Republicans plant aka “Joe the Republican”. This stunt raises questions about ACORN. What a convenient connection between ACORN and Senator Obama since he was a community organizer. It would be so easy for the Republicans to plant workers within ACORN to manufacture the fraudulent forms. This would create the appearance of a criminal activity and Obama connection. It is strange that we have not seen any actual ACORN field worker involvement. The workers who actually turned this fraudulent forms in. That could be easily tracked. The attempt is to put ACORN the organization on trial. So much could be accomplish by the Republicans from this new stunt; disenfranchise thousands of legal voters, tarnish the image of Senator Obama, and steal some key battleground states, won the election. If this ACORN mess is not resolve within the next 2 weeks, than this theory becomes something more. We all know what happen to our democracy in FL 8 years ago. Those facts are now clear. Most of our recent calamities have been man-made. These are the stunts that causes our calamities. If this is true, don’t blame the Republican. We have no one to blame but ourselves. We got fooled once (2000 via FL) , than twice (2004 via OH) and now here we are in 2008 (via ACORN).

It is upsetting that Obama has not explained his involvment with ACORN in detail. Then again he has three answers for every personal question involving his associations – so what could we believe. Fact is his campaign donated $80,000+ to ACORN – why would that be allowed anyway.
There is a lot of stuff going on in Ohio -
There should be no third party involved with voter registration – it should be simplified by law – the voter personally goes to the registration office in his or her town – end of story. If a person does not take the time and make the effort to personally get registered – then that person should not vote – obviously the level of interest does not exist. Should also be a law that a voter must have a photo ID – seems like a no brainer to everyone but the Dems.

When were the questions; who, what, where, when and why expunged from news reporting? May I relate a personal experience to illustrate?
Over 40 years ago the United States government conducted an intensive and lengthy investigation of my background. The reason? I had volunteered for service with the United States Air Force and my duties required a top secret security clearance. The designation ‘top secret’ applies to information or material, the unauthorized disclosure of which could reasonably be expected to cause exceptionally grave damage to our national security.
Years after my military service was over, I learned the extent to which my background had been examined. All of my listed references were contacted and interviewed extensively. Not just they, but their neighbors and their neighbors’ neighbors had been questioned. My character, honesty, trustworthiness, habits, demeanor, associations, loyalty, reliability, and emotional stability were microscopically examined.
I do not object to this vetting process for it has served our nation well for many years. It is an integral part of our military’s human reliability safeguards put in place to maintain the integrity of our strategic nuclear deterrence. Our military, indeed our nation, must rely absolutely on the men and women serving in extremely sensitive positions. This includes the President of the United States!
Fast forward to 2008. What has changed? Well, we now have a presidential candidate whose verifiable credentials are little more than a wispy trail of hanging chads. This man who may soon become Commander-in-Chief of our military has not been properly vetted. We know next to nothing about him. The sad truth is that we now have a presidential candidate who has received far less scrutiny than a young man who simply volunteered for military service.
Yes, things have indeed changed. Journalism died in 2008, and the most liberal member of the Senate, a man who has alliances with some of the most extreme, radical elements of society is now a breath away for the Presidency of the United States. Who – What – Where – When – Why?

“I’m astounded that this issue is being trotted out again. Based on what I saw in 2004 and 2006, it’s a scare tactic.”
Who’s that speaking? And what’s he talking about?
That’s fired US Attorney David Iglesias talking about the news leaked today that the DOJ and FBI are opening a nationwide investigation into allegations that the community organization ACORN is somehow working to undermine the November election through fraud. For more from Iglesias and his fellow fired US Attorney Bud Cummins, don’t miss TPMMuckraker’s Zack Roth’s interview post from earlier this evening.
Iglesias got fired not long after the 2006 midterm election because he wouldn’t get off the dime and bring bogus vote fraud indictments against Democrats or time other indictments of Democrats to sway the 2006 election. In other words, he got canned for not doing what a number of his former colleagues at the DOJ are happily doing this very day.
Nor was Iglesias simpy a respected attorney with solid enough connections to swing a US Attorney appointment. He was a rising star in the New Mexico Republican party. Iglesias was the Republican nominee for Attorney General in 1998. (Not that it’s immediately relevant to this question, but Iglesias was the Navy JAG lawyer on whom Tom Cruise’s character in A Few Good Men was based.) This was that reassuring case where a political person’s partisan attachments butted up against his integrity and the latter won the day hands down. This is someone who knows this scam from the inside and whose testimony — literal and figurative — comes not in line with partisan attachments but in spite of them. Everyone should listen.

Frank
Don’t worry you are already in deep po po and it’s going to get worst no matter who becomes president. And you who’s fault it is? Yours and mine because we have given our freedom and rights to politicians.

Posted by: cony007 | October 17, 2008, 9:59 am 9:59 am

According to the recently released report on the firings by the Justice Department’s Office of the Inspector General, Allen Weh, the state party chair, continually pressed Iglesias to make voter fraud a priority, and in 2005 sent an email to Karl Rove and others in the White House office in which he asked for Iglesias to be removed, and a replacement appointed “that takes voter fraud seriously.”
The report concluded:
complaints from New Mexico Republican politicians and party activists about Iglesias’s handling of voter fraud and corruption cases were the reasons for his
removal as U.S. Attorney.
And it left no doubt that the Bush administration’s decision to act on these complaints represented inappropriate politicization of the Department of Justice.
Still, it looks like the party is still out there pushing the issue.
It’s not that we were expecting the GOP to act chastened after getting caught pressuring non-partisan law enforcement officials to pursue bogus and politically motivated cases of voter fraud.

Integrity of the vote. Where were these protectors of democracy in 2000
when Katherine Harris Secretary of the state of Florida with thousands of votes to be counted ordered a halt to the count. Foreclosure lists are now trying to be used to stop voters(21st century Gerrymandering Karl Rove style). You should not wear party affiliated clothing when going to vote. Actually wearing clothing affiliated to a political party can actually help preserve the integrity of the vote.
The world will not accept our version of democracy.

Obama’s TRICKLE UP POVERTY plan. LOL
Found this on another site & thought I’d share. It’s great!
“Then there is Obama’s outright Socialism. Socialism is great until you run out of someone else’s money. Then EVERYONE pays. Obama is a spokes person for Trickle up Poverty.”

these comments are pretty tough. but one very important subject is not being discussed. palin is a serious embarrassment to intelligent women. i refuse to let someone like that represent me in the white house. she is a joke. i’m trying so hard to remain level headed about it. she is an american after all. but frankly, i cannot stand her. AND she is a liar. she still cannot admit any wrong doing about the firing of the state trooper. sure, Obama should admit ayers is more than a guy who lives in his neighborhood and that yes, the surge “worked” (but let’s get our troops out of there). but the way palin speaks, her mannerisms it’s all terrible. as mccain says, she’s inspired americans. great! but frankly we need more than inspiration. the fact that she did not have a passport etc. bush got us into this mess, why let another repub in the white house. he’ll go down like the rest of them — in shame. the president is just a figurehead.

So unless Palin is for abortion she’s stupid?

Hey that’s intelligent and even handed!
Supports abortion = smart
Against aprotion = stupid!
very clear now!

Anti-Palin,
You’ve got it wrong. Obamessiah is the liar. He’s the illegal alien fraud that won’t hand over his birth certificate.

The McCain campaign can’t run on issues anymore (even national defense) so all they’ve got is character assassination. It would be a compliment to call some of the posters here “gutter snipes”. These are misrepresentations, distortions, or outright lies. Stop the fear mongering and talk about how McCain will fix the economy and improve our lot in the world – if you can.
Attempts to raise these kinds of doubts about Obama aren’t going anywhere with swing voters; in fact, they’re hurting McCain daily. Most voters are too smart for that. They also have too many concerns about what the previous eight years have done to the state of the US economy and our position in the world.
The fact is that Barack Obama is a patriotic American who just happens to have a different opinion than John McCain about what will serve our country best. John McCain has acknowledged this. Even arch-conservatives like David Brooks and Christopher Buckley are in support of Barack Obama. Obama has made the most of what America has offered him and he is grateful for it.
Obama’s supporters are thoughtful Americans who are inspired by his life experience, his education, his writings, and his work in government. They share his opinion that the US is a great country that can be made even greater by changing the direction from that of the Bush administration and empowering the middle class instead of only the super rich top five percent.
Obama has been thoroughly vetted by the American free press, as a prerequisite to getting elected, and for serving on various committees in the Senate. We still have the finest and most free press in the world. If there was a leak in Obama’s story, the press would have dished it out with great joy and great ratings. You can’t serve on many senate committees (like foreign relations) if you haven’t been cleared for very high levels of government security. At this point, he’s been fully vetted for President.
If any McCain supporters actually believe half the lies they are posting in these comments, they might consider seeking assistance from a mental health professional. You’re just wallowing in self serving delusions and hoping that if you repeat these fantasies enough, they might somehow come true.

Oh, Sen. Obama, don’t you worry. I never underestimate the ability of Democrats to screw things up. I hope you are right, and that your minions can still blow this. Your own actions in recent days have given me a glimmer of hope. You have gone after Joe the Plumber, voice dripping sarcasm as you intone, “Anybody know any plumbers makin’ a quarter of a million dollars a year?” You demonstrated yet again that you have no conception of how small businesses in this country, like my own and like the one Joe yearns to buy and grow, actually operate and how those small businesspeople feel about the tax system. You try to stir up class envy, thinking that by promising to help the 95% at the expense of the top 5%, you can get those 95% on your side, but most of us are savvier than that. You and your followers are howling that Joe wouldn’t even be one of the 5% who would pay higher taxes, totally ignoring the words of this good man when he points out that he doesn’t think the taxes should be raised even on folks making $5 million. He is against Obama’s tax plan on principle, not just because of the specific way it would affect him. That is not to say he does not care how it would directly affect him, but that his understanding is greater than that and he does not like the philosophy behind the plan or the way that it would hurt people who depend on that much-maligned top 5% for jobs and spending.
Sen. Obama then goes on to say, “I want everybody running scared. Over the next 18 days, other than your family and your job, I want you to make a decision that there is nothing more important than bringing about this change that we need.” Yes, nothing is more important than getting Obama elected, so if that means you have to pry into every nook and cranny of the life of an ordinary citizen who ran into Sen. Obama and made the fatal mistake of not falling for the Senator’s charm and of speaking his own mind and having a difference of opinion with the senator, so be it. IF that means you feel the need to flash the man’s home address on your website, so be it. If that means you feel the need to publicize details of his economic and marital history to the entire world, as though that somehow disqualified him from having an opinion or expressing it, so be it. Remember, it’s for a great cause, the election of The One.
Sorry, I am not moved by the exhortations of The One.

Posted by: moderate | October 17, 2008, 12:47 pm 12:47 pm

Jazz Singer, sorry, but the McCain camp is NOT out of ideas. Each and every day, McCain (and Palin) outline their positive plans to help our nation move forward. He has laid out a mortgage plan that will bring stability to housing values. He has proposed excellent ideas related to the financial crisis– including allowing seniors to skip withdrawals from their retirement funds without penalty and freezing government spending. He has outlined the ways to energy independence— read his Lexington Project proposals– including building nuclear plants and drilling off-shore. You mean he has no ideas with which you can agree– or more likely, you mean you want people to believe he has no ideas and is busy practicing “character assassination” instead. But we know better. We know that the press, and folks like you, don’t pay much attention when McCain addresses the pressing issues of the day. Your ears only perk up when he has the audacity to mention the Ayers questions or to ask why Obama won’t repudiate ACORN and agree to work with the Republicans on an effort to reduce voter fraud. Then you don’t take the issues seriously, you just start to froth about how this is an unwarranted attack on Obama.

Posted by: moderate | October 17, 2008, 12:54 pm 12:54 pm

Folks, are you reading what you are writing? Are you listening to yourselves?
You are so quick to talk about McCain’s credentials working across the the aisle, and yet attacking anything and everything in your own lives.
No one on this board is even talking about the policies and actions of either candidate. This isn’t discourse about hard decisions, its character assasignation.
Here’s one to get you started. Why is is McCain claims he wants Joe to hang onto his own money and spread the wealth himself, and yet he talks about buying out mortgages with Tax dollars….something that would surely cost Billions of Dollars?
That seems to take Joes money as well.
Let’s try and focus on what they are saying and doing, rather than all this hateful nonsense.

Hey Jake,
How about McCain’s birth certificate? Do you know he was not born in the United States?

Posted by: bob voso | October 17, 2008, 2:49 pm 2:49 pm

Hey Bob Voso,
Yep, I know that he wasn’t born in the US. He was born in Panama while his father served in the military on a US base. Both his parents are US citizens & so is McCain. Natural born. By the way, McCain has already provided his US birth certificate long with all his other records.
Where’s Obama’s? No US birth certificate, no college records & no medical records?
Hmmmmmmmm?

Posted by: Jake | October 17, 2008, 3:38 pm 3:38 pm

Jake,
If you Google “Barack Obama” and “birth certificate”, you’ll come up an article in a blog from the LA Times that shows a picture of it. Can we finally put that tired canard to rest?
Eric S.

Bob Vosco….what’s up with you?
Don’t want to look it up. I’m looking at Obama’s birth certificate on line. Born in Honolulu 7:42 pm August 4, 1961.
You do know Hawaii is in the United States, don’t you?

Okay lets look at Pailn-
Dropped out of multiple colleges before getting a degree.
She uses improper English. Even though alot of idiots think it cute, “I’ll betcha” and “Gosh Darn it” are not proper English speaking words. Try going on an interview talking like this and see what happends to you.
Okay lets look at McCain- graduated five from the bottom of his class. Barely made it through flight school, only made it because of his father’s status. Crashed three planes early in his flying career. And was actually the co-pilot in the plane that went down in Vietnam. He takls about killing earmarks! He killed an earmark that would have brought a Veterans Hospital to a small town. He killed an earmark for a Cancer treament center. He’s a follower and that why he picked Palin. Someone in his campaign told him to pick her (to get Hillary voters). He was going to pick Romney or one of those those other rock heads. Instead he chose the role of follower and listen to the looney idiots on his team. He should have asked himself ” Who can I pick that would be ready to serve as President if something happens to me? Instead he asked “Who can I pick that will help me when?”. As a result he ended up picking a dumb bag of rocks for a VP..And the rest is history.

Barry Goldwater was challenged also, seems he was born in Arizona before it was a state…
I’ve seen Obama’s birth certificate, looks real to me. How about discussing the real issues… this one is put to rest.
I wonder what the media would make of it if Michele Obama was member of an organization that refused to be called americans but alaskans. An organization that professes to hate America and all it stands for. When Palin was elected mayor, she tried to appoint an Alaskan Independenc Party member to her vacant seat. This guy has high powered assault rifles buried in his front yard for when the black helicopters come to take away everyone’s firearms…. Wingnuttery at it’s best. Don’t get me started on the fundamentalist whackos that elected her. They took over the board at the hospital and banned abortions while Palin was charging rape victims for supplies needed to get evidence of the rapes… she knew about it and did nothing.

Bob Voss,
Are you for real?
Just because it “looks real to you” doesn’t make it so. Are you an expert like the people who have already concluded that it’s a forgery? ROFLMAO
John McCain Shirts,
Yes, anyone can file a lawsuit. Berg did & the Obama camp WILL NOT & CANNOT produce the necessary documentation. Something’s rotten in Denmark! It’s ridiculous that someone that’s running for President CANNOT produce a legal birth certificate. Get a clue.

Posted by: Jake | October 17, 2008, 4:53 pm 4:53 pm

Paul, ever hear of student loans and scholarships? I guess not.
Obama and his wife were actually still paying on their student loans until he wrote his second book which sold a lot of copies. You should read it. He is really a very intelligent, kind but tough man. Obama will make an excellent leader.

3 words: DEWEY defeats TRUMAN
The polls, the pundits, the press and even the candidates got it wrong. It’s not like these guys are infallible (or even unbiased).
It ain’t over ’til it’s over. And a lot of basketball games have been lost when the team with the lead goes into their four-corners-run-the-clock-out stall.
Nixon had plumbers to help impact the outcome in 1972. Appears that McCain has his own plumber to make a run at a momentum shift this year.

“It’s ridiculous that someone that’s running for President CANNOT produce a legal birth certificate. Get a clue. ”
It’s even MORE ridiculous that despite proof of Obama’s long term associations with ACORN and his recent payment to them of over $800,000 and that group’s current involvement with tons of fraudulent voter registration records…
THAT YOU’RE GOING TO LET HIM B U Y THE OFFICE OF POTUS!

shame on you!

The McCain/Palin campaign is truly grasping at straws. They don’t have any real plans for America, except to continue the policies of George Bush, so they pick any untruth they can find to play with. It’s sure easier than talking about the real issues. Obama/Biden 08!

What frightens me the most is that, based on countless comments such as these posted all over the Internet, it would seem this “great” country of ours is predominantly populated by illiterate, ignorant, aggressive bigots who have no hope of comprehending politics, or much of anything else for that matter, and adamantly maintain that their opinions count only because they’re supposed to out of some misguided sense of “fairness”… and, these people vote. It scares the hell out of me that such narrow-minded morons hold sway on our political system. Voter application forms should be accompanied by tests to verify prospective voters have some rudimentary understanding of reality that’s not tainted by extreme bias. Of course, that’s about as likely as getting everyone online to behave like civilized human beings.

Tomorrow’s the big day! WOOOOOHOOOOOO
The chickens have finally come home to roost – as Jeremiah Wright would say. ROFLMAO
API is going to release the audio of Michelle Obama’s recent phone call to API. Can’t wait. She’s apparently totally UNHINGED & confirms the fact that Obama is in fact an illegal alien. This ought to be good.
Stay tuned! Listen up AMERICA! The truth will set you free!

Posted by: Jake | October 18, 2008, 5:55 pm 5:55 pm

This should be really good….You can not obtain a stafford loan, grants or any other federal aid for college (which by the way is all subsidized by the federal government) if you are an illegal alien or cannot produce proof of citizenship documentation. Why would Michelle Obama talk to API about anything? A phone call?? Ever heard of a prank calls?
