Wow, five white guys. Obama is in real trouble now.

How much do you want to bet none of them are actual plumbers, either?

Posted by: Lisa | October 17, 2008, 6:05 pm 6:05 pm

“Joe the Plumber” would get a bigger tax cut under Obama’s plan.
I bet that’s true of these jokers as well.

Joe the plumber has been a real joke—i am certain he was put in obama’s rally audience by the mccain camp. same thing with the people who stood up and spoke out in wisc. at the mccain rally. they are all PLANTS======why doesn’t mccain just give up…he’s toast

Politico ID’d them as members of the local College Republicans. Amazing what gets your picture on this website. Can I send you a shot of my toddler in a Bob the Builder outfit? I’ll give him a “Joe the Plumber” sign. It’ll be cute. Promise.

Umm one of those guys is the President of the College Republicans.
Yet another Republican scam like Brook Brothers riot in 2000.
“The Republican National Committee is sending around this Associated Press photo of overall-clad McCain supporters standing outside an Obama rally, clutching plungers and a sign proclaiming “I Am Joe The Plumber”:
The only problem? At least two of the members aren’t quite as similar to the newly famous Joe Wurzelbacher as they might like you to think. As CBS News’ Maria Gavrilovic, who is traveling with the Obama campaign, reports, the man on the right does say he’s an actual plumber – though he is from Melbourne, Australia, and will thus not be casting a vote this November.
And the man on the left, plunger thrust high in the air, is Charlie Smith – the National Chairman of the College Republicans. “

Obviously these young men are college students, with newly purchased overalls to wear while they pretend to be plumbers. They seem to be not well-rehearsed except for repeating the lie about Obama raising taxes, to give the impression that would affect working people or an large group of Americans.
The facts according to an ABC story earlier today: less than 3% of Americans make more than $200,000 a year. So if Obama raises taxes on those making more than $250,000, that is less than 3 % of Americans. And the extra they will pay is small, the same rate they paid under Clinton. They will pay an extra $300 on every $10,000 over $250,000. Sheesh! If I had that kind of income you wouldn’t catch me complaining.

Is this the BEST that the McCain/Palin campaign can offer as a rebuttal to Obama’s sound policies? Says volumes

Posted by: Carlos | October 17, 2008, 6:14 pm 6:14 pm

“The Center for Responsive Politics, which analyzes campaign finance data, reports that a surge of donations for Mr. McCain in the final months he was able to accept campaign contributions moved him into the lead. By the end of August, Mr. McCain received $461,350 from military donors to $450,950 for Mr. Obama.
One of the interesting trends of the election was that anti-war candidates, not only Mr. Obama but also Ron Paul, were getting more support from the uniformed military than hawkish Mr. McCain. That remains the case. Mr. Obama received $340,400 from members of the uniformed service branches compared to $321,500 for Mr. McCain”

Aussie there is a diffreance between asking the guy some questions and investigators digging through his personal life and tax records. The breaking news is he hired a lawyer for breach of privacy. The Obamabots are like rabid dogs whenever anyone questions Obama. This week in his campaign speech Obama used this plumber and the restaurant owner in Ohio who was a Republican who sold him pie, as the butt of his stump speech jokes.
This is highly inappropriate. Unless I was saying something positive about a voter and had their permission, I would never use them as a joke in a speech.
At first I thought Obama was different. But know I see that he is the opposite of change. This is like going back to the 50′s socialism and censorship.

He just asked the glorious one a question, and the glorious one was caught off guard and accidently showed his Marxist self for all of America to see.

Posted by: Lisa | October 17, 2008, 6:29 pm 6:29 pm

“Probably not close to the 29 million that Barry spends each week on attack ad.”
And even spending that much he still hasn’t caught up to McCain in negative attacks ads.
Backing a claim made by Democratic Sen. Barack Obama in his Wednesday night debate with Republican McCain, the Wisconsin Advertising Project says the GOP candidate aired only negative ads for the week of Sept. 28 to Oct. 4. The project, which monitors political advertising activity in more than 100 major markets nationwide, said the spots either were devoted entirely to attacking Obama or combined attacks with McCain’s outlook.
The project said, however, that McCain’s claim that Obama has spent more on negative advertising than any candidate in history is incorrect. Figures from the group show that Obama and McCain actually had an identical number of purely negative or partly negative ads, with McCain sending out more purely negative ads than Obama throughout the general election contest.

Seeking to portray law enforcement investigations into reports of fraudulent voter registrations in several states as an extension of the controversial firings of United States attorneys, the Obama campaign on Friday called for a review by a special prosecutor.
Bob Bauer, general counsel for the Obama campaign, sent a letter to Attorney General Michael B. Mukasey and Special Prosecutor Nora R. Dannehy, who is investigating the attorney firings, requesting that Ms. Dannehy also look into the whether F.B.I. investigations of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or Acorn, were politically motivated.

Obama was canvassing for votes in Joe the Plumber’s neighborhood a few days back. Obama, without the benefit of his teleprompter, opened mouth, inserted foot, and told Joe the Plumber that he wanted to “spread the wealth around” after Joe had asked him a questions about his tax plan.

Barack Obama has taken a slight lead with white independent voters for the first time in the presidential race, positioning him to capture a key demographic group that has eluded recent Democratic nominees, according to a Politico analysis of independent voting patterns.
According to Gallup’s weekly average of some 6,400 registered voters, Obama now holds a 45 percent-43 percent edge over Republican John McCain with white independents. About eight in 10 independents are white.

CHICAGO:Barack and Michelle Obama earned close to $1 million in 2006, paid more than $318,000 in taxes and got a $40,000 refund, thanks to the Bush tax cuts according to the couple’s tax return released by the Democratic presidential candidate’s campaign.
Barack Obama kept his pledge to release his income tax return for 2007.
It shows that he earned more than in previous years — more than $4.2 million, with about $261,000 from salaries and the rest from book royalties.

To try to make up ground, the self-described underdog has attacked Democratic rival Barack Obama — but that tack appears to be backfiring with voters, according to the Associated Press-Yahoo News poll.
McCain has lost favor in how he is viewed over the last month, while perceptions of Obama have improved or remained steady.
Some key findings:
– McCain is viewed favorably by 52 percent of likely voters, but viewed unfavorably by 47 percent. That gap was 21 percentage points in his favor in mid-September.

There is a lesson here…an ordinary citizen should never, ever ask a direct question of a presidential candidate whom the main stream media supports. If the candidate fumbles the answer or gives an answer that proves to be unpopular, the citizen will be mercilessly attacked by the candidates supporters (which includes the media).
It’s much better to intimidate the American voters to make sure they are afraid to approach a candidate with any questions tougher than “How are you?” than to allow one’s candidate the opportunity to fumble an answer.

Joe the Plumber will do much better business in an Obama economy than a McCain economy. Joe’s success is about whether people can afford his services. People without jobs try to fix their own plumbing. New construction is dead in the water in the Republican economy. Republican deregulation, which is what McCain has been all about until a couple of weeks ago, together with the culture of greed, have undermined trust more severely than any time since the Great Depression.
You can bet that if Obama’s tax cut plan drew the line at $250 million, the Republicans would say $250 million is a small business. Life is full of trade-offs, and I have no doubt that most well off people work hard, and many are creating jobs, but the problem is that there are too many others that prefer to spend it all on themselves, send it to off-shore tax schemes, and send the jobs overseas. We will not be able to climb out of this mess if we don’t help the middle class. The idea of just giving tax cuts to everyone, even the wealthiest, has already been tried, and Republicans, McCain included, have already failed on their promise to cut spending to pay for them. Knock your head against the wall for eight years, wonder why it hurts?
We all benefit from tools invented by others; we constantly benefit from the education of our fellow citizens, and we all owe a debt to the protection by our armed forces and public safety personnel, none of whom make $250,000 a year. Sometimes it is necessary for civilization to require something to be given back. I am near the income where I hope in a couple of years to gladly have to pay more of my share under Obama; under McCain, I would worry about my high paying job going away.

Posted by: RL in Illinois | October 17, 2008, 7:30 pm 7:30 pm

First of all Joe the Plumber was not at an Obama rally Obama just stopped in his niehborhood when Joe asked him a question. Joe has admitted that he would get a better tax cut under Obama’s tax plan, but he doesn’t pay his property taxes anyways and there is an actual law that requires that people pay their property taxes. What reason does anyone have to believe he pays federal income taxes SINCE THERE IS NO LAW REQUIRING INDIVIDUALS TO PAY FEDERAL INCOME TAXES. He is opposed to social security, what a PATRIOT my grandpa lives on socail security and this BOZO would rather they not be able to afford what little they can. If it wasn’t for saocial security many elderly AMERICANS would die including my grandpa. He thinks he is going to buy a company, but to do so he would have to get a loan and if you haven’t noticed banks are not giving out to many loans these days. He is related in some way through a marriage to CHARLES KEATING. He doesn’t understand how taxes work for businesses either. What plumbing business owmer that is concidered a small business has a NET income of $250,000 a year. That is the problem with how these people think they do not understand taxes. A business owner does not pay taxes on their GROSS INCOME they pay taxes on their NET INCOME, that is what they make after their business expenses like payroll, supplies, fuel, and any other bills that they pay to conduct business.

mc lives,
yea, i listened to that interview,
i think she is well on her way out.
i don’t think she has even thought deep enough about what she was saying to know if it was right to be saying or not.
but what she does know is to follow the party line, and repeat rep. party talking points. which are all about dividing this country right now. fall out be damned. right now the reps don’t care what harm the things they are saying might cause this country especially since we are well into the sunset of the horrible george bush years, which with the 90percent of the support of john mccain, did a job on this country.
this woman just as sarah palin are well out of their league.
if you listened to her, and watched her, she didn’t know half of what she was talking about, just parroting rep. talking points.
my question is, how many more reps. are going to go on national tv and fall on the sword of trying to help mccain win by any means necessary.

Fascism is rearing it’s ugly head. Calling our fellow citizens Anti-American because we disagree is the first blow to the very fabric of the constitution and everything this great country stands for.
We can disagree on issues, but we are all Americans and we all love our country.
McCain must step up and take control of his campaign with honor and dignity. Enough is enough. We have fought too long and too hard to slide back so far. It isn’t worth it.

Well we gave the universe to Nixon who managed to get impeached.. we gave the universe to Reagan who managed to get involved with the Iran/contra ordeal… we gave the universe to Bush who managed to get us into a war… then to Clinton who managed to foul it up pretty well with other “extra-curricular” activities distracting him from than running the government… then we gave it to George W who managed to get us into another war. Now why in the world does anyone expect that Obama will be any different? Do people really believe his lofty promises of gold for all??

Why hasn’t the media discussed the failure of Obama health plan in Hawaii been reported? Why hasn’t he given the courts what they want, his birth certificate, his school records. Then there’s ACORN, AYERS, REV. WRIGHT, REZKO and heaven only knows what else. The media continue to suppress all this information from the public. Wake up AMERICA before it’s too late. Obama is a Fraud. Doesn’t the media care of what happens to this country. Are they so committed to Obama that they are willing to destroy our system of government? In 2007, the Arizona senator reported $405,409 in total income and contributed $105,467, or 26 percent of his total income, to charity.
Mrs. McCain has donated the same amount to charity as her husband — a total of $170,162 for each of them — over the past two years, his campaign said.
Obama gave $240,000 to charity last year.

Obama and his wife, Michelle, earned $181,507 to $272,759 each year from 1998-2004.
Their income jumped to $1.6 million in 2005, Obama’s first year in the Senate, with the rerelease of his first book, “Dreams from My Father.” They made nearly $1 million in 2006, half of it from his second book, “The Audacity of Hope.”
The Obamas’ charitable giving also increased with their newfound wealth.
From 1998-2004, they gave between $1,050-$3,400 each year. In 2005, they gave $77,315, including donations to literacy and anti-poverty campaigns and their church. In 2006, they gave $60,307 to charity.

Ayer’s was involved with him and in all likelihood still is. This was an unrepentant terrorist. Rev Wright is an Anti-American these are people associated with. If Obama gets elected with control of a democratic congress we are going to be repentant. This country will fall in total control of the liberal left. No checks and balances. In my opinion many in the media should be arrested for treason to this country. The Obama campaign is crying racism, this is the way they avoid the truth. This is the same thing they did to Hillary, cry racism when someone spoke the truth and they had no answer. When is AMERICA going to wake up? When is the media going to report the truth? Obama is a fraud!!!.

For thos of you that have a problem with Rev. Wright because of the three edited minutes of two different speeches that he gave and Obama condemmed. You are denerating a man who has served his country and saved lives. Here is who he is:
Pastor Emeritus
Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr
Pastor Emeritus
Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr. was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He completed his elementary education in that city and then went to Virginia Union University. After three and a half years at Virginia Union, Pastor Wright left school and entered the United States Marine Corps. He transferred from the USMC into the United States Navy where he served as a cardiopulmonary technician.
After six years in the military, Pastor Wright transferred to Howard University where he completed his undergraduate studies and received his first Master’s Degree. His second Master’s Degree was from the University of Chicago Divinity School. His Doctorate was received from the United Theological Seminary under Dr. Samuel DeWitt Proctor. In addition to Pastor Wright’s four earned degrees, he has been the recipient of eight honorary doctorates.
Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr. became Pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ (TUCC) on March 1, 1972. Within a matter of months he demonstrated an understanding and deep commitment to help TUCC achieve its motto and vision. The motto, “Unashamedly Black and Unapologetically Christian”, was a phrase coined by his predecessor, the Reverend Dr. Reuben Sheares, and was officially adopted by the congregation shortly after Pastor Wright began his ministry.
Since 1972, under Dr. Wright’s leadership, the membership of Trinity United Church of Christ grew from 87 members; and currently exceeds 6,000! The membership continues to grow numerically and spiritually with large numbers of members tithing, studying in bible classes and serving in over 70 ministries offered to enhance the Christian journey.
Dr. Wright has lectured at seminaries and universities across the United States and has represented TUCC and The United Church of Christ around the world. He is recognized as a leading theologian and pastor and has published four books and numerous articles.
Stop hating just for the sake of hate. You don’t know the man so don’t judge him.
By the way what does how much a person gives to charity have to do with becoming the President. Both McCain and Obama have done good things for their cities, states, and this country.
If you are going to state something as a fact give a SOURCE otherwise for all anyone knows you are just making things up.

Ok, Obama is walking on the street, randomly in a neighborhood, and a CBS reporter reported, that Obama really doesn’t use an itinerary while out campaigning. So somehow…without an itinerary, and no advanced notice…McCain somehow figured out exactly where Obama would be, while going door to door, and got to Joe before Obama did?
I will concede that Joe probably had his mind made up before hand, but I will also say, that I seriously doubt anyone could have pulled this off, unless someone is a mole in Obama’s camp.
As for the yells at a McCain Rally….why would McCain plant people at a rally to yell “kill him”, when it would be to his own detriment? IF plants were placed in there, it would be by opposition, and I don’t think that happened. I will say though, that the “kill him” never happened. The reporter that made the claim….lied.
Also….there is a video from a rally. The man who did the video is a radical Democrat. Last name of Russo, if memory serves. To my knowledge , he caused no problems, but I find it a little odd that he was at a rally for McCain…video cam in hand.

Have you ever seen Obama talk about “trickle down economics” he says it does not work
Obama told Joe the plumber his “trickle up” theory. Ever see a poor person create wealth and create jobs?

Posted by: geevill | October 17, 2008, 9:41 pm 9:41 pm

Hmmm. All 5 of them…guess the rest of the plumbers make under 250K so they are not protesting?
Who is McCain kidding? The man may be famous now–but he is not a plumber, has no license is not an apprentice, and probably the idea of “owning the business one day” is a pipe dream. Good deal though–if he plays it right, McCain will make him a very rich guy–until after the election. If McCain loses, odds are it will be ..”Joe, who?”

Posted by: stoplying08 | October 17, 2008, 9:44 pm 9:44 pm

Dear Jake Tapper and readers,
I think McCain has a valid point that we should look at both candidate’s records. Yes, Obama is promising a “better” tax cut for many, but yet he has already voted to increase taxes 54 times during his short career. Why does the media just accept his plan at face value? He’s already gone back on his word on FISA, public campaign financing, etc. It appears to me that he is a typical politician who will say anything to get elected. I think the media should make a chart with not only the candidates “positions,” but also their records on each issue. That way people can make an informed decision.

Posted by: S.P. Gass | October 17, 2008, 9:47 pm 9:47 pm

I personally don’t see either being able to do tax “cuts”
The debt that’s now there, and with Obama’s plans, and spending budget….there is just no way. He might do a tax cut , but it will be made up in other ways. He’s already said he’d have no problem with gas going to $12 a gallon, and Biden alluded to them putting the ban back on, on offshore drilling once they’d be in office.
Also…does no one find it a little disconcerting, despite Joe’s political affiliations, and back ground, that Obama, and Biden both mocked the very type of person, they say they want to help the most? The working person? Middle class?

Posted by: Jeanie | October 17, 2008, 9:48 pm 9:48 pm

Josh—you are sooooo wrong and here is why—-
Economy was fine in the first 6 years of Bush’s presidency– Consumer sonfidence stood at a 2 1/2 yr high, gas sold for $2.19 gal, unelemplyment rate was 4.5%, Dow jones hit a record 14,000+.
But America wanted change, so in 2006 they voted in Pelosi and the other democrats making a liberal majority. We got change all right—
Consumer confidence plummeted, gas stood at
$4.00+ gal, unemployment rate went up to 5.5%, Home equities have dropped and 1% of all homes are in foreclosure, Dow is probing a new low everyday.
A vote for Obama is a vote for Pelosi and her liberal democratic policies. She is licking her chops right now and planning a HUGE spending bill to be signed as soon as Obama is in office. How is that going to help our deficit?

Has anyone considered that when Joe talked about buying this plumbing business, and making $250,000 a year, he didn’t mean in personal income, but the income of the business? If this set up has employees, and their work is steady, that’s not out of the realm of possibilities.
So I’m pretty sure that’s what Joe was referring to. If the company makes that kind of income for the year, it will be taxed at 48%, and that’s just federal. That doesn’t include State, or City taxes.

David: In 1986 when the Reagan tax cuts went into effect my tax bill went up by $2,000.00 on my salary of $26,000.00. When the Bush tax cuts went into effect my tax bill went up $2,000 dollars on my salary of $56,000.00. I was puzzled about that, but apparently something changed in the calculation of taxes that caused it. I don’t think when they expire in 1210 “everyone” will get an increase.

“Have you ever seen Obama talk about “trickle down economics” he says it does not work”
Why the Clinton years were good:
Social liberal, economically conservative.
Obama has surrounded himself with smart economic advisers.
Who does McCain have, a fired ex-CEO from HP, a former CEO from ebay, bunch of nobodies from the Bush administration.
So who do I trust… Obama.
And forget the tax-cuts.
Douglas Holtz-Eakin, a McCain adviser, said “you’re going to have to raise taxes whether you’re a Republican, a Democrat or a Martian”
And I totally agree with him!

Posted by: CLabs | October 17, 2008, 9:57 pm 9:57 pm

Rodney, So Joe the Plumber should only oppose Obama’s tax plan if he falls in that magically top 5%? He can’t oppose it because he thinks it is wrong? Because he understands that it penalizes success and harms small businesses (like mine, btw) that are the engine of job creation in this country? Because he knows that Obama is playing fast and loose with the numbers to come up with his “I’m giving 95 percent a tax cut” claim? Joe the Plumber analyzed the issue, came to his own conclusion, and was not persuaded by Obama’s argument. For that, he is being attacked and maligned in a way I have not seen since Sarah Palin stepped on the scene and caught the Dems off guard.
Obama wants to give tax ‘relief’ to people who do not pay any income tax to start with– by sending them checks from the revenue taken from those of us who do pay. This is part of his vaunted 95%. He also counts tax credits as tax cuts– the tax credit for children is scheduled to go down from 1000 each to 500 each in 2010, when bush tax changes expire. He wants to keep it at 1000, which he then wants to count as a “tax cut,” when actually it would result in people’s taxes remaining the same as they are now, not going down. Creative , but too clinton-esque for my taste.
Go, Joe!

Re. Mahoney has called for a congressional investigation on himself. Why?
Because if,as all seem to be predicting, it’s a democrat dominated congress for next year….he won’t have to worry about the bribe he paid to a mistress, or being declared unethical.
Most of congress it out right now, campaigning, so there’s no time to run an investigation now, and he’s counting on that.
He bribed a woman, to keep her quiet, and not accuse him of sexual harrassment.
Is that unethical? I’d say so. Will it be investigated? Doubtful.
So isn’t that the same thing you accuse Palin of doing? Of course it is.

Where do you get this from “he has already voted to increase taxes 54 times during his short career” I know it isn’t McCain because he is still saying 94?
There are plenty of charts out there. I would suggest finding a non-profit and non-partisan group with no agenda or cause to promote that has a comparison. Your best chance of finding the truth you will probably have to use different groups for different issues though.
You say “It appears to me that he is a typical politician who will say anything to get elected” I would suggest you look at how he got elected as President of the Harvard Law Review and what he did once he became Pres. of the Harvard Law Review. He stood by his promises even though it ticked off a lot of his friends. Don’t take my word for it research it yourself, then you will see that he is a man of his word

Times are hard and will be getting a lot harder. We just got a glimpse of what it is like to continue the shell game and ignore the gambling debt. WE’ve been electing leaders who promise not to tax us but they do so anyway. Take a good look at the base price of gas, or your phone bill or utilities bill and not the other “fees” and “taxes” you pay. Note the % of your income that goes to FICA?
Remember when there was no FICA, but just a federal tax? You all know that FICA is just the 3 largest gov programs removed to their own program? SS, Medicare and Medicaid, right? See what % of your income goes to FICA add that % to the amount of your taxes for your federal bill–I think you will be unpleasantly surprised.
And with those sleight of hands, they gave us an increase over the years while promising us a decrease and a lot of people bought it. Add up the taxes you pay monthly for all services like phone, gas, energy, water, sewer–are we learning yet?
You never did get a tax cut–you just got your taxes rearranged so you could not feel the bite all at one time.
Here is the horrible lesson–we have to pay for the free ride we’ve allowed Washington to give us. We will be paying higher taxes. If we don’t the dollar will continue to slide, inflation will get to be more and more and we will go bankrupt. Don’t think that is possible? Bet you did not think what has happened in the past 30 days was possible either.
I am in a tax bracket that will get hit. We make over 200K and if we make a bonus or our stocks do well–we often go over the 250K–but I know we have to pay for the 300 to 500 million dollar a day war. I know we have to pay to rebuild our roads, bridges and traffic systems. We have to pay for schools, ambulances those subsidies on utility transmissions…for the military and police and government work.
That is what taxes pay for–and for those or you who do not think you should have to pay–then you want a free ride. tAxes are the money we pay out on each dollar for the privilege of living and working in America. At this point, anyone who does not want to pay taxes is unpatriotic. Because they want to make the money but not honor the things we allowed elected people to do–war? PAY FOR IT. bailouts? PAY FOR IT. infrastructure? PAY FOR IT. If you don’t use it, you should not have to pay for it–if you drive a car, use electricity from a company, use a hospital, watch tv, send your kids to any school, ever need a cop or fireman–then you PAY. grow up–Butch up, get patriotic and stop being a parasite or wanting a free ride. Do I like that many will not pay? No–but I’m not a kid–I don’t whine and excuse my inaction because “Johnny got away with it”. We each are responsible for what WE do–and as Americans, we must bite the bullet and do what we must to make our country and businesses solvent again.

I have read about him extensively and did a quick google search to see if I had missed something, and I see no reference to some noble act as the head of the law review. Please enlighten us.
You also take issue in that post with SPGass’s figure of Obama voting 54 times to raise taxes. That figure is the one factcheck.org came up with when they factchecked McCain’s original claim that Obama voted 94 times to raise taxes, a claim they found inflated, to be sure, but a claim that they admitted was not made up of whole cloth.

New York Times February 6, 1990
Upon election as president of The Harvard Law Review:
On his goals in his new post, Mr. Obama said: ‘I personally am interested in pushing a strong minority perspective. I’m fairly opinionated about this. But as president of the law review, I have a limited role as only first among equals.’
Mr. Obama said he planned to spend two or three years in private law practice and then return to Chicago to re-enter community work, either in politics or in local organizing.”
The next four years may prove to be very interesting.

Constant attacks on dear Joe the Plumber will not obscure the real ‘boo-boo’ in that original encounter, which is Obama’s statement that he thought Joe should appreciate Obama’s plan to “spread the wealth around.” Joe is not stupid, no matter how many times Obama fans post such insults. You are still allowed in this country to have an opinion and state that opinion, aren’t you? Obama did not convince Joe that Obama’s tax plan was in Joe’s best interest. Obama did not convince Joe that the Robin Hood strategy of taking from the rich and giving to the poor was the best way to structure a tax system. So why is Joe the one under attack here?
And I’m weary of having to constantly explain over and over that there are plenty of plumbers– more precisely owners of small plumbing businesses– who make more than 250,000 a year from their business, and who are taxed on that income on their personal income taxes because they are sole proprietorships, partnerships, or LLCs. that does not mean they cleared 250,000 in profit, by the way. So make fun of us small business owners all you want, and we will keep our heads down and keep working hard and making money and hiring workers and providing a strong foundation to our economy. And, I suspect, many of us will not be voting for Sen. Obama.

They reported that Secret SErvice on the scene did not hear any such threat, nor did any of the other law enforcement officials on the premises. The only person who claimed to have heard it was one reporter. Sorry, but the Secret Service takes their job very seriously. They will have looked at the tapes and compared notes and made sure that their statement was accurate. What people call communist or socialist was a concept that was alive and well in the 1st century AD. In Acts 4:32: “All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had.” That’s how the first English settlement was organized in 1607 (Jamestown, VA). That might work in a perfect world. We aren’t a perfect world so concept was tweeked. Jesus said, “From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.” (Luke 12:48) In Old Testament law God said that those harvesting in the fields should not take everything, but leave some of the crop in the fields for the poor. Ruth and Naomi (ancestors of King David and Jesus) were among those who gleaned from these fields. Draw your own conclusions. Wasn’t this country founded on Judeo-Christian principles?

They may not all actually be plumbers. I don’t think that was their purpose. Their purpose was to say, that as a working man, they have a right to ask a candidate a question, without being persecuted. That they can have an opinion, and a choice in candidates, without being labled a racist.
This is not mocking the working man, this is supporting the working man.
The mocking of the working man came from Obama, and Biden. They mock those, which they say they represent.
Joe has been inundated the last several days..vetted as if he’s some kind of criminal…and Obama has yet to repudiate the behavior of the press, and his supporters.
I doubt he will. I think he loves knowing he has these masses of people willing to do this for him.

The Secret Service has primary jurisdiction to investigate threats against Secret Service protectees as well as financial crimes, which include counterfeiting of U.S. currency or other U.S. Government obligations; forgery or theft of U.S. Treasury checks, bonds or other securities; credit card fraud; telecommunications fraud; computer fraud, identify fraud and certain other crimes affecting federally insured financial institutions.
Since there was an alleged threat against a political figure, the secret service investigated. That, and they were on site when it happened. They are specially trained to hear threats and other threatening comments, and no one heard it. The only person who heard it was a reporter.

Bull, Janine. McCain used Joe the plumber to make a point in the debate. Because Joe is a registered republican. And yes Joe has a right to ask questions and make a decision to vote for whomever he chooses. I don’t have a problem with that.I live in Oh, more than half my family are republicans. But Joe asked the question to make a political point, his own.He wanted a confrontation. He wasn’t interested in Obama’s answer. He was there for the cameras. As it turns out Joe lied about everything. He’s not a plumber,he owes taxes and he lives with his parents. It looked more like he was showing off for his buddies. It’s unfortunate that it’s become the circus it has. Maybe Joe should have stopped after the first few interviews. Instead he blabbed on and on about doing away with social security and poor people with cell phones and blah blah blah. Nothing to do with the question he asked. If he’s going to get on TV and give his views, then he’s going to have to defend his rhetoric. Because I surely don’t aspouse to Joe’s views on taxes or the plumbing business.

We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
Taxation is necessary to carry out the principles of the Constitution. If we are willing to do without these things and do everything on our own then we could keep all of our money for self. If you want a sewer or a paved street do it yourself—we can do it better if we pool our resources (taxation) and work together (more perfect Union).

I AM NOT TAKING ISSUE WITH YOUR STATEMENT JUST ASKING YOU A SERIOUS QUESTION THAT I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW THE ANSWER TO.
Who said that Joe the Plumber was a racist?
THIS IS ME NOW TAKING ISSUE WITH A STATEMENT THAT YOU MADE.
Joe the Plumber knew when he talked to Obama that there were news cameras filming him. Therefore he opened himself up to people looking into who he is. He knew he had not paid his property taxes he knew he was a registered Republican. He knew he wasn’t a lincesed plumber. What he didn’t know is that if he buys this plumbing business is that he would be taxed on his NET INCOME and not his GROSS INCOME. If he did not want any of this information to be made public he should have just kept on tossing the football around with his son.

However, we will not find out for sure until we the people speak on November 04.

Josh, here’s my source for saying that the wacko was yelling about Ayers, not Obama– the transcript of the event as reported in the Washington Post (hardly a big right wing source *G*). According to the Post, Sarah Palin talked about reading the New York Times story about Ayers and Obama. The very mention of the NYT drew boos. Then, to quote the post, she then said, “And, according to the New York Times, he was a domestic terrorist and part of a group that, quote, ‘launched a campaign of bombings that would target the Pentagon and our U.S. Capitol,’” she continued.
“Boooo!” the crowd repeated.
“Kill him!” proposed one man in the audience.”
It seems clear to me that the referent to the “kill him” outcry, based on this description, was the guy targeting the Pentagon and Capitol, Ayers. Do you disagree? If so, how do you connect the statement to Obama?

They should be because unlike Bush and McSham he is going to go after them.
McCain claims to know where Bin Laden is and yrt he refuses to tell our military I guess because if he had I think they would have his dead body by know. If he really knows where Bin Laden is He should go and kill him and then he would win the election even I would vote for him if he did that.

Hannah, You misunderstand what I am saying. SMall businesses often file their taxes on personal income tax forms, because that’s how it works for sole proprietorships, partnerships, and LLCs. They do not have to have profits of 250,000— but income of 250,000. Not difficult to do if you have a small business with a few employees. And I am referring to small businesses in rural areas. My spouse and I have a small business just like that– small town, 4 people working, and easily gross over 250,000 a year.
But Joe the Plumber is the guy who asked the question. Obama is the one who said that people who can claim that sort of income should allow him to “spread the wealth” for them, raising their taxes to spread the money around. There is no magic to the figure 250,000– maybe once elected, he’ll decide that people making 200,000 are prosperous enough to share their wealth, or maybe 150,000. I wish people were paying as much attention to the answer that Obama gave and the way he has spoken about Joe the Plumber and taxes as they have been paying to the details of Joe’s life and financial situation.

About the Iraq war McCain said “I believe that the success will be fairly easy.” (9/24/02)
Six years later Americans are still dying in the war in Iraq.
AND
“We will win this conflict. We will win it easily.” (1/22/03)
Five and a half years later Americans are still dying in the war in Iraq.

Josh, despite the fact that we seldom agree on much, you are one of my favorite posters around here. That’s why I’m disappointed in your statement that Joe the Plumber deserves the intense scrutiny he is getting at the moment. Is that like rape victims being accused of asking for it because of the way they were dressed or something?
Let’s review what happened. Obama is going door-to-door in Toledo on a photo-op, meeting voters and answering questions. He is on Joe’s street– Joe cannot be a McCain plant as lots of folks (but not you, dear Josh) have claimed. He is answering questions from citizens, as I think politicians should do. Joe is playing ball in his yard with his son. He hears people asking questions and decides to ask one of his own. So he’s a republican– does that mean he isn’t allowed to ask a question of a democratic candidate? He asks his question, Obama answers it. He and Obama do a little back – and -forth to clarify their positions. Joe remains unconvinced by Obama’s argument. The press is there, as they have been following Obama down the street. Cameras are rolling and capture Obama’s “spread the wealth around” comment, which gets some folks attention. The whole exchange gets wide media play and suddenly Joe is a celebrity. He was an ordinary citizen minding his own business who decided to do what I thought all of us have a right to do– ask questions of our elected officials and candidates for office. As a result, he has been held up to public ridicule for days. He has a tax lien against his house– does that change Obama’s answer or Joe’s right to ask a question? Obama’s campaign treasurer, Martin Nesbitt, has a lien against his home, too. Are we calling for his head, too? Suggesting he should step down? Of course not. He does not have a plumber’s license– if you are not hiring him to do plumbing work for you, what does that matter to you? How does that change the answer to his question about Obama’s tax plan? Does that mean that we can ignore the fact that Obama wants to “spread the wealth around”? Obama is the politician here, not Joe.
I am frankly surprised that you would write:” Joe the Plumber knew when he talked to Obama that there were news cameras filming him. Therefore he opened himself up to people looking into who he is.” Really? So anyone who speaks at a town hall meeting or who talks to a candidate on a rope line should now anticipate that their entire lives are fair game for the media and that people can investigate them? I’m seriously troubled by that idea. Joe is a regular guy who asked a question. He is not running for office. We should be encouraging citizens to be more involved in the political process– asking questions and listening to what politicians have to say– not hounding them when they do and then claiming they ‘asked for it.”

From my understanding the McCain campaign called Joe before the debate and asked if he would mind if McCain talked about the talk he had with Obama. Had Joe said no nobody would have given him a second thought but he allowed himself to be thrust into the public eye by saying yes to the McCain campaigns request as well as going on FOX NEWS. I am not saying he asked for it. I am saying he should have expected it. The only thing I think he was thinking about was that he would get his 15 minutes a fame. I think if you go looking for that 15 minutes of fame you should understand that it might turn into 15 minutes of shame. I don’t think he’s a bad guy just naive. I am affended by his opposition to social security though.

I would not say that tax cuts is the only reason to vote for any candidate. But I would say that Obamas tax plan is what will drive the economy. If someone in the lower and middle classes is able to keep more of their money and have health insurance that money will still eventually find its way to the rich companies just not as fast as it has been for the last 8 years. The economy is where it is at today because of irresponsible spending habits of a lot of people in this country. The bailout is not changing these habits, rather it is reinforcing those bad habits.

How is it that you say Obama doesn’t want us to pay for health insurance? He is offering for us to be able to buy into the same insurance that he has. Under his plan I will be able to afford health insurance. Under McCains plan I would not be able to afford health insurance just like I can’t now because you have to go out and buy your health insurance and pay your premiums and then at the end of the year you file your tax returns and the government sends your health insurance company a check for $2,500 for individuals and $5,000 for families what I don’t understand about this plan is how does this save me money when I have already paid my monthly premiums. plus I have a preeqisting condition which McCains plan will not help me get health insurance. I as an individual have looked at every health insurance company I have ever heard of and the cheapest quote I have gotten is $1,236.73 per month. Now I have to go to the doctor every month and get injections in my spine as well as 2 prescriptions per month and that only costs me $453.61 per month for all of it. I had health insurance that I paid just under $200.00 per moth for when I got injured and Blue Cross Blue Shield dropped my coverage 3 months after my injury. I emailed and wrote a letter to every campaign during the primary to find out how their plan will help me. Every campaign except the McCain campaign has responded to my letters and emails. I even got a letter back from Bill Richardson after he dropped out of the race stating how his plan would have helped me. How is it that a man who isn’t even running anymore responded to my letter and yet a man who has gotten MY OWN PARTIES NOMINATION hasn’t even gotten back to me on my question.

Who cares about a lying plumber in Toledo? I care a lot more about John McCain. He pretends to understand what it’s like to to try to make a living, pay for health care, and a mortgage – while his wife made $4.2 million last year alone doing nothing and his mother is rich enough – that when she is taking one of her many vacations to Europe, and can’t get a rental car, whips out her checkbook and BUYS one. Have you done that recently? Most US papers are running stories on how many people can’t afford to send their kids back to college because their savings are lost. John McCain doesn’t have a clue about what it is like to live like a regular American. And don’t show me the President of the Young Republicans with a plunger, either. His outfit costs more than most people make in a month.

FLAT OUT LIES FOR OBAMA:
In presidential debates (and campaigns), candidates usually try to put their policies and records in the best possible light. The spin usually focuses on the positive aspects of these points to the point of hedging the entire truth, but flat-out lies are pretty rare.
Last night, Barack Obama treated us to two of them, and not surprisingly, on the two most controversial points of his record.
The first was subtle, and unless you paid attention to the split screen, you may have missed it. John McCain, after being asked about William Ayers, noted that Obama had launched his campaign in Ayers’ living room:
MCCAIN: Well, again, while you were on the board of the Woods Foundation, you and Mr. Ayers, together, you sent $230,000 to ACORN. So — and you launched your political campaign in Mr. Ayers’ living room.
OBAMA: That’s absolutely not true.
MCCAIN: And the facts are facts and records are records.
OBAMA: And that’s not the facts.
Unfortunately for Obama, those are the facts, both about Ayers and ACORN. Obama paid ACORN over $800,000 this summer for GOTV efforts, which Obama now denies, although he did finally admit that he represented ACORN as an attorney in a lending-practices case.
Obama did launch his career at a party hosted by Ayers, which is such a matter of public record that I’m frankly surprised he bothered to deny it.

THE NEXT BIG LIE OF OBAMA came during the debate on abortion.
McCain pointed out Obama’s radical positions on the issue, including his repeated opposition to the Illinois version of the Born-Alive Infant Protection Act. Obama responded with a series of lies:
There was a bill that was put forward before the Illinois Senate that said you have to provide lifesaving treatment and that would have helped to undermine Roe v. Wade.
The fact is that there was already a law on the books in Illinois that required providing lifesaving treatment, which is why not only myself but pro-choice Republicans and Democrats voted against it.
During that period, the Attorney General reported that the practice of abandoning infants born alive during late-term abortions was not covered by the law. Jill Stanek and others testified to the practice, and the Illinois Senate heard testimony that suggested that as many as 20% of all late-term abortions resulted in a live birth.
Obama lied about the circumstances of the bill; the reason it was being proposed was because existing law was ineffective at protecting infants born alive.
And the Illinois Medical Society, the organization of doctors in Illinois, voted against it. Their Hippocratic Oath would have required them to provide care, and there was already a law in the books.
There wasn’t a law on the books, and who would be surprised that the people performing the abortions and leaving the children to die wouldn’t want more oversight to prevent that practice?
OBAMA VOTED AGAINST the bill that would have protected infants born alive even after the “neutrality clause” he demanded was added to protect abortion in Illinois. That is the truth in this case, and Obama lied last night to the American people in an attempt to hide his radical position on abortion.

NEW BEGINNING FOR OBAMA’S BRO !
[In February, Farrakhan appeared at an annual Saviours' Day event in Chicago and called Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama the "hope of the entire world" that the U.S. will change for the better.]
FARRAKHAN SAYS ‘NEW BEGINNING’ FOR NATION OF ISLAM
CHICAGO (AP) ― The Nation of Islam, a secretive movement generally closed to outsiders, has planned a rare open-to-the public event at its Chicago-based headquarters in what the Minister Louis Farrakhan deemed a “new beginning” for the group.
He’s also played down some of the group’s more controversial beliefs. The Nation of Islam has taught that whites are descended from the devil and that blacks are the chosen people of Allah.

Republicans file new lawsuit against Brunner
Rebuffed at U.S. Supreme Court, they turn to Ohio’s top court
Having lost before the U.S. Supreme Court in a lawsuit involving the verification of new voter registrations, Republicans now are turning to the Ohio Supreme Court.
Specifically, the lawsuit asks the Ohio Supreme Court to require Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner to order county elections boards not to count any absentee ballot from voters registered after Jan. 1 without first checking the statewide voter registration database to ensure there is no mismatch
Brunner has had a mixed record on the lawsuits decided so far, winning today’s case and an Ohio Supreme Court case involving whether Ohioans could register and immediately cast an absentee ballot between the start of early voting on Sept. 30 and the Oct. 6 voter-registration deadline.
But she lost challenges to her rulings not to allow outside observers for in-person absentee voting and to reject applications for absentee ballots printed by Republican John McCain’s campaign if a box on the form wasn’t checked.

DISPATCH FROM NAIROBI
Kenyan insiders say Obama was part of takeover strategy
Used 2006 ‘fact-finding’ trip
to criticize sitting president
October 16, 2008
© 2008 WorldNetDaily
NEW YORK – Former members of Kenyan opposition leader Raila Odinga’s Orange Democratic Movement party have told WND when Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama visited Kenya on a “fact-finding” trip in 2006, he was carrying out part of a secret election strategy that also included exploiting divisive tribal tensions and ultimately taking advantage of rioting that left 1,000 dead.
The strategy document outlining the campaign earlier was referenced in “The Obama Nation” but could not be fully authenticated at the time of publication.
Now, however, research conducted in Kenya by WND has confirmed the authenticity of the strategy memo, which was prepared by a five-person Odinga “core strategy team” led by Peter A. Nyongo, the secretary general of Odinga’s Orange Democratic Movement party, with the assistance of four key Odinga ODM strategists, including Odinga speechwriter Adams Oloo.
Moreover, neither “Fight the Smears” nor the Smith posting disputed the substantive point made in the e-mails, namely that Lippert served to coordinate between Obama and Odinga while Lippert held a staff position in Obama’s U.S. Senate office in Washington.
WND was unable to get a response from Obama with calls to his Washington office and Chicago campaign headquarters.

GADHAFI:
Mideast leader: Obama a Muslim who studied in Islamic schools
Says Arab world campaign contributions ‘may enable him to win U.S. presidency’

JERUSALEM – Sen. Barack Obama is a Muslim of Kenyan origins who studied in Islamic schools and whose campaign may have been financed by people in the Islamic and African worlds, Libyan leader Muammar Gadhafi said during a recent televised national rally.
“There are elections in America now. Along came a black citizen of Kenyan African origins, a Muslim, who had studied in an Islamic school in Indonesia. His name is Obama,” said Gadhafi in little-noticed remarks he made at a rally marking the anniversary of the 1986 U.S. air raid on his country.
The remarks, translated by the Middle East Media Research Institute, MEMRI, were aired on Al Jazeera in June.

“This is a bombshell. We now have undeniable proof that a significant number of fraudulent voters were cast in Democrat primary races for the New Mexico legislature as a result of ACORN’s voter registration fraud.”
Press release from the New Mexico GOP:
Fraudulent Votes Cast in New Mexico
Obama’s ACORN Must Be Shut Down Before Election, All Activities Investigated
(Albuquerque, NM) – Public records released in New Mexico today confirm that fraudulent voter registrations are in fact turning into fraudulent votes. ACORN, currently under investigation by the FBI, is now confirmed to be responsible for producing fraudulent voter registrations and illegal votes in New Mexico. An inspection of public records has revealed that illegal votes were cast in New Mexico’s 2008 primary election.
But is anyone stupid enough to believe Obama’s paid-off Chicago Machine vote fraud outfit was submitting fraudulent votes in a legislative primary, but not on behalf of their own boy?
Based upon this thin record, can we start throwing around willy-nilly wild accusations that Obama stole the primary from Hillary?
Yes we can.
No one commits voter fraud to pad a margin of victory.

After months of saying he doesnt Palin verrsion 8.1:

Palin: “I Know Obama Loves America”
When will they make up their mind!

Posted by: Mike NC | October 18, 2008, 7:20 am 7:20 am

Palin’s recent comments to a crowd about “Pro-American parts of the country” is confirmation that the Republican Party has always been adept and evily clever at pitting one segment of America society against the other in a “divide and conquer” rule. I am so glad they are being found out!
However it was a Wise and Judicious Barack Obama in 2004 who spoke these Uniting words in regards to America’s oneness:
“Even as we speak, there are those who are preparing to divide us, the spin masters and negative ad peddlers who embrace the politics of anything goes. Well, I say to them tonight, there’s not a liberal America and a conservative America; there’s the United States of America. There’s not a black America and white America and Latino America and Asian America; there’s the United States of America. The pundits, the pundits like to slice and dice our country into red states and blue States: red states for Republicans, blue States for Democrats. But I’ve got news for them, too. We worship an awesome God in the blue states, and we don’t like federal agents poking around our libraries in the red states. We coach little league in the blue states and, yes, we’ve got some gay friends in the red states.” –Obama, 2004.
It should be a crime against the American Public and a Betrayal of the Public Trust for McCain and Republicans to be able to get away with obvious lies and distortions by false and misleading Robocalls which try to link an 8 year old Barack Obama with acts committed by Ayers over 30 years ago. It is down right dishonest, dishonorable and misleading. There should be laws against this type of unethical behavior to knowing lie and mislead for gain. This is like one lying on their Resume when applying for a job. It is moraly wrong and unethical!
As for Joe the Plumber who said to Barack, “I’m getting ready to buy a company that makes $250,000 to $280,000 a year,” he told Mr. Obama. “Your new tax plan is going to tax me more, isn’t it?” Yet, he owes back taxes! So was this another obvious lie? And it belies the fact that if one has $250,000.00 dollars and because he has to pay his fair share of taxes, he is unable to Purchase that business, he is greedy.

It’s not about what happened when Sen. Obama was 8 years old. Bill Ayers did not give up his radical beliefs when Sen. Obama was 8 years old. Bill Ayers continues to espouse anti-America and anti-Capitalism beliefs.
It’s the fact that Sen. Obama has consistently associated with radicals throughout his life. It was being mentored by Frank Marshall Davis for five years when Sen. Obama was 14 to 18 years old. It was studying under the principles of Saul Alinsky when Sen. Obama relocated to Chicago. It was sitting in that pew for 20 years being mentored and pastored by the Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr.
All his life Sen. Obama has not only surrounded himself with individuals who have strong anti-America views but they mentored and trained him. And we are to somehow believe that Sen. Obama can so easily dismiss his mentors’ beliefs?

Our most cherished right as an American citizen is the right to vote. That right to vote and the entire election process is what millions of our bravest citizens have fought and died for throughout our history. When one part of the election process loses its integrity the entire process is undermined. Those who consider voter registration fraud as no big deal, show little respect for the election process? And that is like spitting in the face of the men and women who have died for your right to vote.

Common Sense, you truly do NOT have any common sense IF you believe that Americans inflated their tires, and THAT, NOT the high price of gas has caused less consumption. My home for instance, my daughters are car pooling to their jobs, instead of taking their own cars. We have stopped taking the road trips we used to take every other weekend. THAT is the reason for lower consumption. THE PRICES and needing to SURVIVE.
Obama when asked once about gas prices didn’t believe they were too high, only that they spiked to quickly. IF Obama is elected, gas will rise again because the OPEC leaders they have a friend in Barack.
If you believe that “truth” in the form of Socialism is good for this country, please change your name to NO SENSE.
I am not a rich person. I would be one of those people that Obama’s “spread the wealth” should help, but 1. I wouldn’t take it, and 2. My husband and I believe in taking personal responsibility, NOT someone’s else’s hard earned money.

Common Sense, what truth did Sen. Obama tell Joe the plumber? During the debate Sen. Obama said that he essentially told him that, “Five years ago, when you were in a position to buy your business, you needed a tax cut then.” The TRUTH IS that Joe did get a tax cut in 2001 and 2003. In fact, anyone who paid federal income taxes received a tax cut back then.

Do you really understand Obama’s tax plan ?
Becuase all Barack is doing is Giving Tax Payers who make under $250,000 a tax break!
People who earn over $250,000 go back to being taxed at 39% like they were under Clinton!(insted of the current 36%)
Do you understand that ?
I really dont get it the only thing i can think of is that you watch fox news and are missinformed or you just dont like obama and dont care about the truth!

The cornerstone of Socialism is “spreading the wealth around”.
Socialists believe that wealth should not be concentrated in the possession of a few members of a society (”few” being a relative term), and they believe that only the government should be able to determine how much is “enough” and how much is “too much.” The Socialists view it as the duty of the wealthy to support the non-wealthy.
In the end there is no incentive to work; the entire system collapses – as witnessed by the Soviet Union.
But as Obama pushes his Socialist agenda he should remember a quotation by Karl Marx:
“History repeats itself, first as tragedy, second as farce.”
Obama is the farce part.

The truth that Obama told “Joe the Plumber” was that 95% of Americans need a tax break. They will get that needed break with his tax plan.
As it turns out, even “Joe the Plumber” who makes under 50K a year will also get a tax break — that is, should he decide to be a law-abiding, patriotic citizen and get his tax lien paid up and actually file his taxes.

Which appears to be more fiscally responsible? Obama sounds like another Bush
Washington Post updated 5:18 a.m. CT, Sat., Oct. 18, 2008
“McCain this week unveiled his $52 billion package, which includes tax breaks for Americans withdrawing money from retirement accounts, the elimination of taxes on unemployment benefits, and a cut in capital-gains taxes for investors who sell long-held stocks. McCain also proposed using nearly half of the money from the $700 billion bailout to buy mortgages held by distressed homeowners, renegotiate their debt and help them stay in their homes.
Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama had initially proposed directing billions of dollars to road projects, aid to state governments struggling with budget shortfalls and a broad tax rebate worth $500 to individuals and $1,000 to families. This week, he tacked on a temporary tax credit for companies that hire workers in the United States, raising the price of his plan to $175 billion.”

These “plumbers” remind me of those conservatives that laughed off Obama’s suggestion that we stop using as much gas? Well guess what. Our consumption has gone down and now so has the price!
====================
Common Sense- The conservatives didn’t laugh off using less gas, they laughed off Obama’s hooey energy plan of “inflating your tires” will save as much oil as we would drill offshore.
OPEC sets the price of oil, OPEC is foreseeing a recession therefore oil prices are being lowered. The oil consumption wasn’t entirely on the U.S. either, China and other highly populated countries want to live like us,and drive SUV’s instead of riding a bike, their oil consumption has greatly risen. The liberals really like to lay the world problems at the U.S.’s feet but our country is one in only a few that take global warming seriously and take steps to conserve energy. Other countries do not feel so inclined. Turn the outrage to them, not to the “evil” Americans who drive to work everyday or drive an SUV because of the need for space.
If you think that OPEC has lowered the price of a barrel of oil because of less consumption, then why would they do it now, when 48% of the oil platforms in the Gulf were taken out of commission due to Hurricane Ike? Therefore, less oil is being produced for our consumption and simple logic would think that oil prices would be higher.

The lies spread here and by the McCain campaign just make you shake your head. Obama didn’t “show up on this guy’s doorstep”–Joe approached him on the street and was then closely followed by the McCain team or consrvative folks (how do you think we saw the footage of him watching the debate?) I haven’t heard jow the “undecided voter” say one positive thing about Obama–from his comments and his past voting record, he’s a straight-up Republican. It doesn’t sound as if he is anywhere near ready to buy a business and apparently his boss’s business makes about $150K a year.
This sudden burst of “socialist” horse manure is absurd. How do you folks THINK that we’re paying for this trillion dollar war–Mom’s credit card? Police? Firemen? Highways? Teachers? Libraries? is that all “socialism?” When bridges collapse or teachers get laid off or soldiers don’t have enough body armor, I don’t hear any of you saying “well, you know what? we shouldn’t have to pay for tht anyway–that’s SOCIALIST!” Honestly–it’s embarassing–you expect to get everything for free? And you call yourselves patriotic? Feh…

Yes, “trickle-up poverty” is the answer. What a joke? It scares me to think that an American citizen can ask Obama a question about his tax plan, then his party unleashes the hord on this man. Digging up and conjuring up any information they can against this man making it public. Is this a preview of what is to become of America.

Common Sense wrote: “These “plumbers” remind me of those conservatives that laughed off Obama’s suggestion that we stop using as much gas?” Actually the suggestion that was laughed off was to “inflate your tires.”
Inflating your tires to the proper level is a great suggestion. But just to say “inflate your tires” can be a problem. If your tires are already inflated to the proper level, additional inflation can be harmful. Over-inflated tires ride on just the center of the tread. The smaller contact area means reduced grip on the road; and it can cause steering and stopping problems not to mention increased wear on the tires.

MIke NC,
I’m not Brenda, but I am a poster who is tired of being treated as if I am simple minded if I dare not fall in line in support Barack Obama’s tax proposals. yes, I understand what the man says his plan entails. I understand that he wants us to believe one simple fact– 95% of us get tax cuts, 5% of us get our taxes raised. Sounds lovely, but the truth, even as far as his campaign is willing to admit if you dig through the fine print and tease the meaning out of the “jello” of his statements, is not that simple. People making over 250,000 are guaranteed a tax hike, which is intended, it seems to me, as much to appease class envy as to raise revenue. People making less are lead to believe their taxes will go down. But some of that promise is clever use of words– as I have mentioned in previous posts, a scheduled lowering of the child tax credit would be eliminated, so that you would continue to get 1000 per child rather than have that reduced to 500 per child. Obama’s crew counts this proposal to keep the status quo as a “tax cut.” (Oh, and John McCain proposes moving the credit up to 3000 per child, a much higher “cut” for familes.) In addition, over 40% of Americans don’t have to pay any personal income taxes, so it’s hard to see how you cut “$0.00″ But Obama has found a way– they get a larger earned income credit, so they get a check (or a larger check than at persent) from the government, which he counts as a ‘tax cut.’ Where I live, we call it welfare.
So, even based on what is being “promised” here, I am not moved. McCain’s tax plan is better, in my opinion. But I am also extremely skeptical that any tax legislation Obama gets passed once he is elected will very closely resemble his promises, anyway. He’s already setting things up to blame anything he does on George Bush— I wanted to give you all more money, but because of Bush, we can’t. I had every intention of cutting your taxes, but because the Republicans wrecked the economy, that will have to wait. blah blah blah
So, yes, I understand Obama’s tax proposals– what he want me to think he’s proposing, what he’s actually proposing, and what seems likely he will actually do or not do once elected.

Kellie, you wrote: “I think 95% of the voters probably are the people who make under 250,000.00 dollars! If you make that you should give more! Give me a break! How golly you must be to expect not to pay your share!”
Speaking on behalf of all those paying over 250,000, I must say that we already pay far more than our “share.” I do not begrudge the government the huge amount of taxes I pay annually, actually. In fact, people in our family often urge my spouse and I to get ourselves a more creative accountant who could help us figure out how to avoid paying so much. We always smile and pass, content to pay honestly on the money we earn. That does not mean I feel that we should be asked, in tough economic times, to shoulder even more of the burden. The top 5% already pay 60% of the taxes– so I’m comfortable in claiming we are pulling our weight.

So, this is where all the republicans having hallucinations gather! Why are all so-called “conservatives” so scared? Does it not occur to you that perhaps you should be thinking of what is best for your country instead of what is best for your wallet? You greedy bastards. We are the richest country in the world! Even the poorest among us have a hundred times more “wealth” than three-quarters of the rest of the world, have you ever noticed that Americans who are poor are so fat! All I hear is republican joe plumbers whining about paying taxes! How about doing what is right by your country and stop your bitching.

None of those protestors will be helped by Obama’s tax cuts because all of them obviously make over $250,000/yr.

The protestors in the
picture don’t even look
like aspirants to a

They don’t even know
that they are getting
a tax cut.
Did reporters tell them
that?

Someone should remind McCain and the McCainiacs that good ol’ Joe the Plumber still owes back taxes. Beyond this, why in the world can these morons be complaining when they would actually be getting a tax cut? Unbelievable.

If you aren’t a cool-aid drinker, but can actually think for yourself, let me ask you a question: When Obama doesn’t actually cut your taxes what will you do? Later when Congress raises your taxes under Pelosi, what will you do? You see the President doesn’t control taxes and the economy, it is Congress. The same failed Democrat controlled Congress that oversaw the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac catastrophe. Obama will feign that he tried, but Congress and the circumstances have his hands tied. He’ll be able to cut taxes in his second term. You sheeple are scary.

Hi, Sarah! Before you start throwing accusations around that people are lying, maybe we could review the facts. The McCain campaign is not lying about the encounter between Joe W. and Sen. Obama. Let’s see what you said:
” The lies spread here and by the McCain campaign just make you shake your head. Obama didn’t “show up on this guy’s doorstep”–Joe approached him on the street and was then closely followed by the McCain team or consrvative folks (how do you think we saw the footage of him watching the debate?)” What the heck? I’m so tired of reading posts by people who, like their big buddy Obama, want to parse words to twist the situation. Obama did not knock on Joe’s door, not, so maybe technically you could say he did not ‘show up on Joe’s doorstep.’ However, the facts are not in dispute (except among the folks rushing to trash Joe’s reputation and repair that of their candidate)– Obama came to Joe’s neighborhood, on a photo op of pressing the flesh with ordinary voters on a weekend afternoon during some time off from his debate prep. He was trailed by reporters and camera people– this was a political event, and it was Obama who drew the cameras into the neighborhood. Obama was entertaining questions from people on Joe’s street and Joe joined the group and asked a question of his own. Try to remember– this is why Obama was there, to show himself reaching out and trying to appeal to potential voters by listening to their concerns and answering their questions.
You say that after the encounter, Joe was ‘followed closely’ by the McCain campaign or by conservatives, which is why we saw him watching the debate. Sorry, I don’t get this at all. After Joe’s encounter became news and started being talked about on cable news, the McCain campaign wisely reached out to Joe and apparently told him his name would come up in the debate. I did not personally see footage of him watching the debate, but if there were such footage, I would assume it came from an enterprising news organization that wanted the human interest story.
Finally, everyone keeps obsessing on the fact that Joe would get a bigger tax cut, it appears, from an Obama administration than from a McCain administration. Should Joe’s vote, or anyone’s, be for sale to the person who pledges to put the most money in his pocket? Is that the only consideration we have in deciding on a leader for our country– who will give us the biggest amount of tax relief? How bizarre. If Joe decides to vote for John McCain, he will probably decide based on a whole host of reasons, as we all should.
You then went on to say: “I haven’t heard jow the “undecided voter” say one positive thing about Obama–from his comments and his past voting record, he’s a straight-up Republican.”
Again, what’s your point? Only undecided voters can ask a question? Obama should not have to talk to Republicans? An undecided voter can’t have negative things to say about the candidates? Yes, Joe is a registered Republican, and probably was strongly leaning toward McCain. But he had not voted yet and here was one of the two candidates on his own street, entertaining questions. Why not go over and ask about something on his mind? Why is his question so offensive to some of you? Why are you so up in arms because someone had the nerve to ask Obama a question that was not premised on blind devotion to the man?
You conclude: “It doesn’t sound as if he is anywhere near ready to buy a business and apparently his boss’s business makes about $150K a year.” So WHAT? We can only think Obama’s tax plan is wrongheaded if we fall into a particular tax bracket? Joe can’t talk about his ambition to buy his boss’s business unless he provides accurate detailed information about the time frame of his purchase and the yearly gross of the business? the fact that Joe does not fall into a bracket that will, atleast according to The One’s current promises, have their taxes raised, does not change the fact that he is philosophically opposed, as am I, to having the tax code used to take an excessive amount of revenue from one group of people in order to send $500 checks to another group of people who do not pay taxes in the first place.

If you aren’t a cool-aid drinker, but can actually think for yourself, let me ask you a question: When McCain doesn’t actually cut your taxes what will you do? Later when McCain endorses tax breaks to big corporations with Palin, what will you do? You see McCain and Palin are part of the same political mindset as the current president who made all sorts of promises during the Republican Revolution that dominated the last eight years. The same failed Republican party that enabled corporations like Enron to destroy retirement funds while living fat off the hog in an atmosphere of deregulation. McCain will feign that he tried, but his trickle down approach will drive the economy further into catastrophe. He’ll do a hatchet job on needed federal programs and place even more of a burden on the average American tax payer to pay for bailouts that came about as a result of GOP confidence in corporations regulating themselves. You Mcsheeple are scary.

People who do not pay taxes? Oh, kinda like the McCain sweetheart, Joe the Plumber, who owes $1500 in back taxes.

What do we expect from these backers of the “MAVERICKS.” Typical Republicans…they live dirt poor, and hope to vote republicans for some scraps off the tables of the corporates and Karl Rove.

RealityCheck,
Hon, we diabetics don’t drink kool-aid(t). And I do not expect John McCain to cut my taxes. If he does, that’s great. If he doesn’t, as long as he does not raise them overmuch, I’ll be fine. But you know, I do not base my votes on sheer personal economic benefit. As our pal Spock taught us, the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few or the one. (or esp. The One)
My vote will go to John McCain because I think he will be the best leader for our country. I know he will be a strong commander in chief who will keep our country safe. I know he will promote nuclear energy and offshore drilling as well as alternative energy development (such as his prize for an improved electric car battery) in order to make our country energy independent. I know he will handle our financial crisis in a pragmatic way and will investigate the mismanagement of Fannie and Freddie and the way key congresspeople (particularly Democrats like Barney Frank and CHris Dodd) protected these institutions and ignored calls for reform from John McCain and others. I know he will keep taxes low for all Americans (rather than institute a greater transfer of wealth program by ‘reducing taxes’ for the 40% of Americans who don’t pay taxes) and lower them for american corporations, as part of his plan to encourage economic growth. I know he will not raise taxes on small business owners, which would crush the engine of job creation in this country, or insult their intelligence with promises of a one-year 3000 credit for each job created (hardly offsets the cost of creating that job or balances out the tax increases Obama will impose on many of those small businesses). And finally, I know that he will do his best to reform Washington, taking on entrenched interests, hyperpartisanship, government waste, and the corrupting influence of earmarks.
Btw, anybody who can say with a straight face that McCain and Palin share the same mindset as Bush/Cheney is drinking something harder than Kool-Aid (t), it seems to me. McCain will usher in the changes we need, because he has the experience and the judgment to lead.

“typical republicans”? I don’t think that there is any such thing as a ‘typical’ republican, any more than there is a ‘typical’ democrat. But I do find it amusing that the stereotype of republican has changed– so now republicans are poor people who want to be rich, instead of just spoiled white rich people? If you mean we are ‘typical’ because we think that individuals should get to keep more of their own money and pay less in taxes (after all, a tax break is just a way of allowing us to keep more of our own money), you are right. It’s not “trickle down”– it’s the reality that poor people, whatever else they contribute to our society, do not create jobs. Economic policies that punish wealth creation punish job creation. People with higher incomes spend those incomes, and that spending has a multiplier effect. That also helps keep Americans employed.
I’m a Republican– and I’m neither wealthy (although my tax bracket seems to suggest otherwise *G*) or poor. So I guess in your book, I’m not ‘typical.’ I’m not waiting for scraps from anyone’s table– I can pull my own weight and mostly just want the government to stay out of my way.

Is there a definition for a typical Republican? Mine is: Any body who believes that Joe the plumber is real. He’s a plant that got caught. No wonder the republicans are screaming so long and loud. If they scream enough, the fact that he’s a phony and exists nowhere in real life will be ignored. There has got to be a republican somewhere with upper double digit IQ points. Can’t they find him/her?

Reality Check, I ask you: When Sen. Obama doesn’t cut your taxes but instead raised your taxes what will you do?
The current financial crisis was NOT caused by deregulation. It was caused by government interference in the free market. The forcing of banks to lend money to individuals who could not afford to make the payments; the pushing of the flexible subprime mortgage rates; the lack of Congressional oversight; and the Democrats protecting Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac in spite of numerous warnings by the Bush Administration and several GOP Senators (including Sen. McCain) is what caused the financial crisis.

Can we get beyond one democrat talking point lie? Corporations do not pay taxes
anymore than a house pays property taxes.
Can’t you guys get that through your so
called superior “intellect”.
People pay taxes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The joke of this “joe the plumber” is that these people are actually kidding themselves that they will be taxed more by Obama when very few, if any, make more than 250K per year. Republicans think their base is stupid and that they can convince them to vote against their own interests and vote for a candidate that will tax the middle class and give tax breaks to the richest corporations. “We are joe the plumber?” – stop embarrassing yourselves.

What is more telling is that this article doesn’t mention what other reports note – that one of these guys is from Australia and is not voting for anyone, and one of the main guys with plungers is the president of the college republicans.
Could the GOP get any more staged?
I’m a small biz owner and sorry, the reason joe the plumber isn’t getting traction is what he said doesn’t match with what McCain wanted to make him out as.
And labeling people socialists isn’t an insult anymore, it isn’t 1950, and people aren’t looking to angry mobs as a solution to everyday problems.
