Obama on Offense; But Does Playing Field Lean Republican?
As Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., campaigns in traditionally Republican states Virginia and North Carolina this weekend, the Boston Globe notes that Obama has overwhelmingly been campaigning in Red states that went for President Bush in 2004, while Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., has been forced to play defense by campaigning in those same states.
Since Obama wrapped up the nomination in June, he’s held 82 events, the Globe says. Seventy-five percent of those — 62 — have been in Red states, while one quarter of them, 20, have been in Blue States won by Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., in 2004.
"Conversely, of 97 McCain events since June, 59 have been defending states Bush won and 38 were on offense, in states taken by Kerry," says the Globe.
But the importance of this should not be overstated. McCain has the luxury of being able to play defense — Bush won. If McCain holds the Red states, he will win too.
In fact, if Obama wins the Blue states and picks up New Mexico and Iowa, two states where he’s polling well, he still won’t win. He has to be playing offense.
So it’s significant that Obama’s in Red states.
But he also has to be.

The fact that our country leans Republican explains why we elected George W Bush twice and now get stuck in two battles with no end in sight and face the biggest economic crisis in decades. We deserve the problems we are facing and we will continue to if we don’t make a smarter choice this time.

Obama will win in the West and Midwest and hopefully take Virginia and Florida and possibly North Carolina. RCP has him at 353 electoral votes based on their analysis of tossups and it’s possible he could pull in 22 more if he takes Missouri and Indiana, both of which are very close now and both of which border Illinois.
Posted by: bhciapol | October 4, 2008, 3:01 pm 3:01 pm
Obama is also ahead in Nevada, Ohio, Florida and Virginia. McCain has to win Ohio, Virginia, North Carolina, and Florida. Obama only needs one of those states, McCain needs all of them. Also, Indiana and Missouri are very close.
Posted by: Mike | October 4, 2008, 3:03 pm 3:03 pm
Jake you’re pointing out the obvious. I don’t McCain has any real chances of picking up any blue states. Michigan was his best shot.
The Red States. If you view the electoral map Obama’s leading in the very critical battleground states.
Iowa (Bush 2004)
Mexico ”
Colorado ”
Nevada ”
Florida ”
Virginia ”
Ohio”
Leading in North Carolina but it really depends on the AA turnout.
I believe Obama is well on his way to victory on Nov 4
Posted by: Vanessa | October 4, 2008, 3:03 pm 3:03 pm
Chris, we are winning, read the news. Economic crisis mostly related to democratic legislation with which Bush had nothing to do. And bipartisan lack of oversight.
Posted by: Wade | October 4, 2008, 3:04 pm 3:04 pm
Yes, Jake. The fact all the states in play are Republican is BAD BAD BAD for Obama.
If only states like New Jersey and Oregon were in play, Democrats would feel much better.
But tragically, Obama is tied or up in states that have not voted for a Democrat in decades. Oh the tragedy !
Posted by: Benjamin | October 4, 2008, 3:04 pm 3:04 pm
If the election were held tommorrow, Obama wins easily. Now there is still a month to go but being up 8 is something Obama should be happy with for now. I’m sure that would have made Kerry pretty happy.
He’s ahead in OH, FL, VA, CO, NV, MO, etc.

Don’t forget Obama has to get at least a 10% margin in Florida, Missouri, Ohio and Michigan in order to squeak out a victory because of poll challenges, dodgy voting machines, and the like.
Posted by: Flash Override | October 4, 2008, 3:15 pm 3:15 pm
This is the biggest “duh” post I’ve ever read. In order to win, Obama has to convert states that voted for Bush? WELL, DUH!
The important thing you’re missing is that he’s already flipped Iowa and New Mexico. What McCain should be worried about is what’s on the map now — and that is a collection of toss-ups that include Republican stalwart states like Virginia, North Carolina and Indiana.
Right now, McCain has to sweep the toss-ups while Obama can cherry pick. That’s the reality.
Posted by: davidconnell | October 4, 2008, 3:15 pm 3:15 pm
Jake:
I’m guessing you haven’t looked at all the other polls…
When McCain’s average polling in Indiana is 2.2% in a State that Bush won by 20% in 2004…he has MAJOR ISSUES.
You should take a look
That’s how real polling is done.
McCain is going down and going down hard.

Kerry was ahead in the polls too! Hillary was supposed to be inevitable!
Remember? What happened? Don’t rely on the polls too much right now. The real poll, the one that counts comes next month! Some of us out here “clinging to our guns and religion” may stop clinging long enough to vote!

This is a seriously misleading analysis, Jake. You know, or should know, that according to RealClearPolitics Obama is up by something like 101 in the electoral college. With no toss-up states he wins by 164 – and the value of Realclearpolitcs is that the take an average of all the major polls. So to present the information like Obama HAS to be campaigning in the Red states or he will Lose is misinformation. Things may change, but right now Obama/Biden are seriously slaughtering McCain/”Palin”. And Jake, you damn well know it.

What makes America’s system more efficient than those of some superpowers is that when the government shows incompetence and mismanagement, people can fire it so the same policies which failed won’t be repeated in the future. That’s real change and it comes with OBAMA/BIDEN. It looks bad for McCain…

McCain is on the offense. There are several typically red states that Obama has a good chance of winning, which points to the struggle McCain is facing:
Indiana +2 McCain
Missouri +1.7 McCain
Florida +3 Obama
Ohio +2 Obama
North Carolina (typically very red) +.5 Obama
Virginia +2.4 Obama
Colorado +4 Obama
Omaha area of Nebraska (one of two states that splits delegates, it is where Warren Buffet lives. Obama has grown substantially with a workforce that typically votes for Obama)
New Hampshire has moved that state from “Toss-up” to “Leans Democrat”
New Mexico leading Democrat +7.8 Obama

Obama skipped 45% of Senate votes
Voted against funding our troops
Obama made 45 trips to Iowa but only 2 to Iraq
After weeks of mocking John McCain for his claim that the fundamentals of the American economy are strong, Obama said: “After this immediate problem, we’ve got the long-term fundamentals that will really make sure this economy grows.”
So along with the reservoir of political support that came to Obama through his close ties with Jeremiah Wright, Father Michael Pfleger, and other Chicago black churches, Chicago Acorn appears to have played a major role in Obama’s political advance. Sure enough, a bit of digging into Obama’s years in the Illinois State Senate indicates strong concern with Acorn’s signature issues, as well as meetings with Acorn and the introduction by Obama of Acorn-friendly legislation on the living wage and banking practices. You begin to wonder whether, in his Springfield days, Obama might have best been characterized as “the Senator from Acorn.” The larger point is that Obama’s ties to Acorn — arguably the most politically radical large-scale activist group in the country — are wide, deep, and longstanding. If Acorn is adept at creating a non-partisan, inside-game veneer for what is in fact an intensely radical, leftist, and politically partisan reality, so is Obama himself. This is hardly a coincidence: Obama helped train Acorn’s leaders in how to play this game.

Bottm line: Obama is winning in the battleground states. In fact there isn’t one single battleground state where Obama isn’t either up by 2 points or greater or tied(i.e. Indiana). The problem for McCain is that McCain has to win every single Bush 2004 state and right now he is losing in every single one (and tied in IN).
Obama is on the offensive because he can afford to be. Meanwhile, McCain is on the defensive everywhere.
The best proof of this is that GEORGIA is going to be close this year.

Winning Nevada and NM will result in a tie, but Main and house of reprensentative may give him the edge.

Many bloggers were wondering why Barack Obama was not prosecuted by the State of Illinois for not telling the truth on his legal paperwork. In 1991 Mr. Obama signed an application to IBAB and denied that he owed outstanding parking tickets, he falsified his application and gained admission to the bar by fraud. It is because he resigned as a lawyer sometime in March 2007, and he could not be prosecuted because he no longer had his law license. Therefore if he loses the Presidential run he will not be returning to the law. By the way, he was blatantly flagrant as he had 17 outstanding parking tickets. Of course this does not clear up the part that he also lied about ever having used another name which there seems proof that he went by Barry Soetoro; Barry Obama; Barack Dunham; Barry Dunham.

Kerry only won 35% of white voters and Gore won about the same. Pre polls before election showed them in that same category.
Sen Obama is gettting above 38% of white voters in some states and a high black and Hispanic turnout as well as 34-35 % white will take him there.
The facts. White tend to vote at a hight rate for republicans.
Black tend to vote at a high rate for democrats
Hispanics are swing voters and they are for the democrats this time..

Jake,
of the 84 Presidential Projection sites on the Internet (that track the electoral vote on per state basis), 81 currently project an Obama win in November; 35 of them already give Obama more than 300 electoral votes (270 needed).
ZERO of these sites, many of them run by Republicans, are projecting a win for McCain…
So, what’s the problem Jake?

There is absolutely no doubt Obama is a pathological Liar. Obama lies about the littlest things. For instance Obama during the ABC George Stephanopoulos interview said he registered for the draft in 1979. I am not sure when Obama registered or even if he did but it certainly was not in 1979. By Presidential Proclamation 4360 the selective service registration was suspended in 1976. There was no more registration until JUL 21, 1980. This started a two week period of registration for anyone born in 1960 and 1961. That means that by law Obama would have had to register by 05 AUG 1980. So Obama obviously lied. Had Obama told the truth or said “I registered in 1980″ no one would have questioned it. But now that Obama is a proven liar he should be forced to release records showing he followed the law.

Unqualified home buyers were not the only ones who benefitted from Massachusetts Rep. Barney Frank’s efforts to deregulate Fannie Mae throughout the 1990s.
So did Frank’s partner, a Fannie Mae executive at the forefront of the agency’s push to relax lending restrictions.
Now that Fannie Mae is at the epicenter of a financial meltdown that threatens the U.S. economy, some are raising new questions about Frank’s relationship with Herb Moses, who was Fannie’s assistant director for product initiatives. Moses worked at the government-sponsored enterprise from 1991 to 1998, while Frank was on the House Banking Committee, which had jurisdiction over Fannie. …
The two lived together in a Washington home until they broke up in 1998, a few months after Moses ended his seven-year tenure at Fannie Mae, where he was the assistant director of product initiatives. According to National Mortgage News, Moses “helped develop many of Fannie Mae’s affordable housing and home improvement lending programs.”
Critics say such programs led to the mortgage meltdown that prompted last month’s government takeover of Fannie Mae and its financial cousin, Freddie Mac. The giant firms are blamed for spreading bad mortgages throughout the private financial sector.

This woman has little room to speak given her long association, and the association of her husband, with members of the AIP, who openly advocate the secession of Alaska from the United States. Also, the leader of this organization stated, and I quote: “the fires of hell are glaciers compared to my hatred for the United States of America.” This sounds worse than anything Rev. Wright ever said about the United States. Of course, a big difference is that, while Sen. Obama has publicly condemned Rev. Wright for his hateful contents, Sarah Palin has never so much as criticized the leader of the AIP for his expressed hatred of our country. The more one gets to know this woman and her associates, the more one realizes what a danger she presents to the security of our nation and the freedom of its citizens. Johnny McSame is desperate and will say anything over the next month in an effort to derail the inevitable election of Sen. Barack Obama to be President of the United States. WE CAN STOP HIM!!! The analysis of this author is so… underwhelming. ABC must be lowering its standards on journalism.
Both candidates are vying for states in each others territory. Obama is on offense, because that’s how you win. McCain is on defense, because his campaign is loosing everywhere. That’s all there is to it.

Some repubs here say that polls do not matter. Well in that case McCain must be making a fool of himself pulling out of Michigan on the basis of polls.
No matter whom wins we will have fun. Looking forward to 16 more years of Bushisms from Palin, 8 as VP and 8 as P.

Economy’s in the worst shape since the Great Depression. 159,000 Americans lost their jobs last month. We’re still fighting two wars while the people who murdered 3,000 people are freely roaming around the hills of Afghanistan. Tens of millions of Americans don’t have health insurance. Gas prices are still astronomical. The public education is in crisis.
Whenever I see someone obsessing about Obama’s birth certificate, I’m reminded that Rick Davis, McCain’s campaign manager (and paid Freddie/Fannie “influence peddler”) said that this campaign “won’t be about issues.”
After eight years of deceit, incompetence and division, it’s time to return to national sanity and make this campaign about issues.
We have serious problems that are going to require serious people with serious solutions. We’re not going to get out of the messes we’re in by oozing slime and slinging mud, creating diversions and distractions, or trotting out divisive “wedge” issues so that we can holler bumper sticker slogans at one another.

I have read these memes on Obama not showing any ‘real’ strength in these red states and his efforts are for naught. If this spin or POV is correct, shouldn’t the Republicans brag that they made Obama spend his money in Republican strongholds or that he has been walking on a hope and a prayer that have no chance of winning?
When I read blurbs on how Obama is lucky to have 1) money, 2) an army of canvassers, and 3) been allowed on this great big national stage…I wonder whether some Democrats, the MSM or the Republicans will admit that the man has some organizing talent and rare political acumen. How many times have you all set limits to which you think he can’t reach and he has overcome them?
He can’t possibly win a primary because no nonWhite person ever has.
He did it.
Hillary Clinton is unstoppable with the Clinton machine behind her.
He did it.
Obama should go on the negative to win because no candidate can win office without going nasty and distorting facts.
He is continuing to strive to do this very thing.
No one can come back from having a pastor who is not elected and not running for office, saying things which make the majority of American people cringe.
He seems to have won the primary, the polls seem to indicate that he might even get those hard working white people Clinton talked about in the primary to vote for him.
What else can you all make up in time for November 4th?

It’s funny how many Obama supporters are
mad at Palin for being so popular. After all no one is really supporting Obama because he is qualified to be President
(he is not, less exp. that Palin) they
are voting for him for the same reason
so many others are excited about Palin,
they LIKE him. All this talk about putting
the country first is a lot of bull. They
simply like Obama better and it has nothing to do with what he is capable
of doing for us. Which is very little.
And now they’re mad because someone
came along that is even more popular than him! They want a president that
has to have the VP sit beside him to
help make every decision. That isn’t
leadership, that’s knowing you don’t
have what it takes to do the job.

John McCain is afraid to run on the war, he’s afraid to run on health care, and he’s terrified to run on the economy, so he’s going to go for fear and smear. It’s all John McCain has left. And as McCain campaign manager Rick Davis once said:
“The premise of any smear campaign rests on a central truth of politics: Most of us will vote for a candidate we like and respect, even if we don’t agree with him on every issue. But if you can cripple a voter’s basic trust in a candidate, you can probably turn his vote. The idea is to find some piece of personal information that is tawdry enough to raise doubts, repelling a candidate’s natural supporters. [...]
It’s not necessary, however, for a smear to be true to be effective. The most effective smears are based on a kernel of truth and applied in a way that exploits a candidate’s political weakness.”
Davis wrote that in 2000, decrying George Bush’s smear campaign against John McCain during the South Carolina primary, saying that:
“Rebutting tawdry attacks focuses public attention on them, and prevents the campaign from talking issues.”
And of course today, the last thing John McCain wants to do is to talk about the issues.

In general, I’m a fan of Mr. Tapper, but this post–reduced to its logical basis–says nothing but the following:
1)The Republicans won the last Presidential election.
2)Therefore, for the Democrats to win this year, at least one state that voted Republican in 2004 must vote Democratic.
This has been true for every pair of elections since our nation’s founding. It will always be true.
Amen.

Anyone remember PassPortGate?
Remember when that story broke, saying that Obama’s privacy had been invaded? The media was all over this story and tried to imply that it was the Clintons’ doing. Then the internet broke the truth. Obama’s own people were the ones responsible for the break-in. “Suddenly, in a completely amazing and dreadfully convenient disclosure, it seems our Passport Invaders looked at McCain’s and Clinton’s passports as well.”
The question is – what were Obama’s operatives trying to remove/cover up????
Hmmm – How about Obama’s birth certificate? You know, the one that he has shown all over the internet but is unable to produce in court to get that “bogus” lawsuit dismissed?

7. If Obama had made 1/4 of the gaffes and lies that Mccain has made including the fundamentals of our economy are good. What would happen? Answer:Obama’s presidential bid would be over

11. If Obama has been anywhere close to Mccain in the conduct of his campaign. What would happen?Answer:Obama’s presidential bid would be over
I could go on and on.. but my point is… the hypocrisy of the republicans and so many in this country is on such a low shamefull and painfull level that I cannot find an adjective to describe it appropriately. These people have ZERO objectivity and ZERO conscience… Obama is held to a much higher standard because of ONE reason only… the color of his skin.. you racists out there reading this and screaming… know this point and remember it always…
“who God blesses NO MAN CAN CURSE” I hope Obama wins for the sake of this country… The republicans are praying and hoping that the idiots and uneducated racists and bigots will return them to power… Their support is critical and so the only way to appeal to hate is to manufacture lies and innuendo, reapeat it enough times that the “heartland” would vote “white”. Sad, because 4 more years of Bush won’t help them anymore than the last 8 years have… Am just soo tired of all the hate and racism I read on these sites… people pretending to debate facts when instead they are debating their hate, racism and biggotry… all because they cannot stand the thought of a man with black skin in the white house… never mind the way this country has gone down the crapper and the fact that the two women who raised Obama are as white as them… There is only one choice in this election, anyone with common sense knows Obama is that choice… but then… reading the posts above… common sense is NOT so common… oh well.. God help us. My last question: why is the media allowing all of this to occur?

McCain’s decision to go even more negative is clearly an act of desperation. His negative campaigning has cost him big time among independents. I suspect this new negative barrage is a last ditch effort to rally the base or risk losing in a 49-2 landslide a la Michael Dukakis.

From Factcheck:
The truth about Obama’s birth certificate.
Summary
In June, the Obama campaign released a digitally scanned image of his birth certificate to quell speculative charges that he might not be a natural-born citizen. But the image prompted more blog-based skepticism about the document’s authenticity. And recently, author Jerome Corsi, whose book attacks Obama, said in a TV interview that the birth certificate the campaign has is “fake.”
We beg to differ. FactCheck.org staffers have now seen, touched, examined and photographed the original birth certificate. We conclude that it meets all of the requirements from the State Department for proving U.S. citizenship. Claims that the document lacks a raised seal or a signature are false. We have posted high-resolution photographs of the document as “supporting documents” to this article. Our conclusion: Obama was born in the U.S.A. just as he has always said.

Obama is leading substantially in all Kerry states plus NM, IA, and CO. That already puts him at 273, and makes him president. All the other battle grounds would just be icing on the cake, namely OH, FL, VA, NC, IN, MO, NV. The biggest myth is that this election is still close — it’s not anymore.

It’s really simple folks, a vote for Sen. Obama is a vote for a government of the Left, by the Left and for the Left. Entrepreneurship and hard work will be punished instead of rewarded. Really tired of being called racist. Obama is the most organized manufactured candidate ever to run. His best work is doing anything to get what he wants. It’s a real shame that the truth about his backers and associates is just now coming out. As far as the question by someone asking “why is the media allowing all of this to occur”, my question since January has been “why is the media NOT reporting information that people deserve to know before they vote?” They reported squat out of fear of racism accusations-just like now. When the facts come out, the racist excuse will go right down the toilet where it belongs.

The Arizonan’s campaign is also eager to move the conversation away from the economy, an issue that strongly favors Obama and has helped him to a lead in many recent polls.
“We’re going to get a little tougher,” a senior Republican operative said, indicating that a fresh batch of television ads is coming. “We’ve got to question this guy’s associations. Very soon. There’s no question that we have to change the subject here,” said the operative, who was not authorized to discuss strategy
On a day after we learned that America lost three-quarters of a million jobs this year and a week after our financial system teetered on the brink of collapse, John McCain and his campaign have announced that they want to ‘turn the page’ on the economic crisis facing working families and spend the last month of this election launching dishonest, dishonorable character attacks against Barack Obama. We understand that it’s not easy for John McCain to defend the worst economic record of our lifetime, but he will have to explain to the people struggling to pay their bills and stay in their homes why he would rather spend his time tearing down Barack Obama than laying out a plan to build up our economy,” said Obama-Biden Spokesman Bill Burton.

Senator McCain past actually impairs him from to be flexible and confront the future with open mind. .Senator Obama foreign policy is moderate but also smart. That helps to keep our friends near, and or foes nearer! The last days of the campaign confirmed that McCain -Plain are the most inadequate people to run this country. If Obama was O’Brian and he was white and not black,
He would not have had any trouble winning the election,

The long-time democrats are dismayed at her popularity in the same way that they are still cringing at the thought of bumpkin Bush and his folksy ways.
It’s the ex-republicans, like me, who are mad at Palin, or more specifically, at McCain for picking her. As a non-religious, moderate, fiscal conservative, I have to say it was that move that pushed me into the Obama camp. I can’t see how Obama would be any worse than the Bush crowd in terms of increasing gov. And it’s pretty clear that Maverick=loose cannon, which is much more disturbing to me.

It’s over. If the election was held today, Obama would win in a landslide based on the latest polls.
McCain has to waste time trying win back Florida, North Carolina, Virginia (any of which side with Obama and it’s over) while Obama can focus on the closer battles in Indiana and Ohio (if either side with Obama he wins). Even if Obama loses all of those, if he carries NH (he’s favored) and CO (he’s favored) he wins.
Check your facts before you report such rubbish.

I’m curious to see of the main stream press will facilitate a McCain/Palin comeback by giving them excessive goofy coverage of their wildass statements, the crazier the better. It’s the only way they can get attention is to say some crazy crap everyday, throw some ####, and see what sticks. The only way this behavior works is if the MSM repeats ad nauseum, as if it was really substative news. The MSM media, instead of looking for sensationalism should be reporting on the candidates stands on issues, factchecking, and rendering analysis. Leave the crap for FOX and kids.

Ummm, we don’t THINK so, Buckeroo!
FactCheck.org is owned by the Annenberg Foundation which links directly back to William Ayers. That tells you volumes, right there.
Since FactCheck.org staffers have, in your words, “have now seen, touched, examined and photographed the original birth certificate” and can vouch for its validity, I suggest they give it to Obama so he can hie his bony butt over to the Civil Court in Philadelphia where the lawsuit brought forth by Phil Berg about said birth certificate is pending.
Berg wants Obama to produce his real birth certificate to prove that he meets the citizenship requirements to be President.
Now, you would think that since Obama has produced his valid birth certificate on the internet for viewing by millions of internet customers that he would also produce his valid birth certificate to the court for a prompt dismissal of this case. Not So!
Instead, Obama’s legal team has filed a motion to dismiss. One of the Lawyers filing the motion was Joe Sandler of the Washington law firm Sandler, Reiff, and Young.
If Mr. Sandler’s name sounds familiar it should. He is the Legal Hit Man for the Council of American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). CAIR is an organization with terrorist ties, and has been as an un-indicted co-conspirator in the Holyland Foundation Hamas Funding trial.
Sandler’s role for CAIR has been to stifle people from telling the truth about Islam. For example, last year he tried to get Jihad Expert Robert Spencer banned from speaking to the Young American Foundation by using a threatening letter. Sandler followed up by threatening columnist Mike Adams for writing about the Spencer incident.
Not only that, but the crooked DNC has once again stepped up to save their boy, they have filed motion to dismiss on Berg’s case demanding that Obama show him his birth certificate. Would you go to court in order to stop someone from seeing your birth certificate, or would you take it out of your file cabinet and show it to whomever?
“Mr. Berg provides precedents which he argues establish his standing and petitions the Court to deny dismissal and order the defendants to produce the documents in the previously requested discovery.
“The conclusion of Mr. Berg’s brief reads:
Plaintiff served discovery in way of Admissions and Request for Production of Documents, on Defendants on September 15, 2008 and has attempted to obtain verification of Obama’s eligibility through Subpoenas to the Government entities and the Hospital’s in Hawaii.
To date, Plaintiff has not received the requested discovery from the Defendants and two (2) of the locations, which subpoenas were served upon, refused to honor the subpoena.
“for the above aforementioned reasons, Plaintiff respectfully request Defendants Barack Hussein Obama and the Democratic National Committee’s Motion to Dismiss pursuant to F.R.C.P. 12(b)(1) and 12(b)(6) be denied and order immediate discovery, including but not limited to: 1) a certified copy of Obama’s “vault” (original long version) Birth Certificate; and (2) a certified copy of Obama’s Certificate of Citizenship; and (3) a certified copy of the Oath of Allegiance taken by Obama taken at the age of majority.
If the Court is inclined to grant Defendants motion, Plaintiff respectfully requests the opportunity to amend his Complaint pursuant to the findings of this Honorable Court.”
Please google on Berg and Obama birth certificate for more interesting facts.
Instead of going to Alaska to find bs on Palin, perhaps the MSM and Obamabots might want to concentrate on finding out the true story of Obama.
Obama – produce the real birth certificate or get out of the presidential race and let someone who can really do the job run.
MSM – what say you???

“Brooklyn Democrat, it is Obama advisors Franklin Raines (former chairman and CEO of Fannie Mae) and James A. Johnson (another former CEO of Fannie Mae) who ran Fannie Mae into the ground while they reaped millions of dollars in benefits.”
Firstly, Raines was never an Obama adviser. Secondly, the GOP has held the White house for the past 8 years… appointed 7 of the 9 Supreme Court Justices… and controlled Congress for 6 of the past 8 years. Johnson left Fannie Mae, during the Clinton Administration.
Thus, you MUST be saying that the GOP has been asleep at the wheel, and incompetent, since they’ve controlled power. I agree with you.

Walter H. Annenberg was the United States Ambassador to the
United Kingdom under Nixon a close friend of President Ronald Reagan and the man who helped Ruppert Murdoch get a foot hold in the American media market. Not exactly a Democratic past!
His foundation was established in 1989 by Walter H. Annenberg, the Annenberg Foundation provides funding and support to nonprofit organizations in the United States and globally through its headquarters in Radnor, Pennsylvania and offices in Los Angeles, California. Its major program areas are education and youth development; arts, culture and humanities; civic and community; health and human services; and animal services and the environment. In addition, the Foundation operates a number of initiatives which expand and complement these program areas. The Annenberg Foundation exists to advance the public well-being through improved communication. As the principal means of achieving this goal, the Foundation encourages the development of more effective ways to share ideas and knowledge.
Your attempts to link this good man and his foundation to Ayers is shameful the only link Chicago Annenberg Challenge which Barack Obama chaired which was chaired from 1995 to 2000 by Barack Obama at the time a practicing attorney.
The foundation has donated $2 Billion dolars to charities across the USA.

There actually were alot of loyalists that werent for the United States being formed that were colonists. There was infighting in N.J. long after the constitution was formulated. It was a civil war. Freedom fighters are terrorists to oppressive regimes. Change has many ways to be attained.

But if they replay McCain’s greatest hits part two,

It wasn’t that interesting the first time.
Come on, we ALL know someone who has done bad things. And the thing about McCain/Palin is, they are living in glass houses. I think the Obama/Biden campaign still would like to hold back on the negativity … if possible.
There is enough negativity on THIS comment blog for another four week campaign, and this is just the stuff (we think) we know).
Do not covet a blood bath, fellow voters. Everyone will come out bloody and the results will remain unchanged. Most sane people do not respond to negativity.

The Annenberg Foundation supports both FactCheck and the Chicago Annenberg Challenge.

The invented controversy regarding the birth certificate…. what about McCain not releasing his full war record? He makes his service a campaign issue and keeps his record hidden?

Baz, a report from the Washington Post (July 16, 2008) included the following: ”
“In the four years since he stepped down as Fannie Mae’s chief executive under the shadow of a $6.3 billion accounting scandal, Franklin D. Raines has been quietly constructing a new life for himself. He has shaved eight points off his golf handicap, taken a corner office in Steve Case’s D.C. conglomeration of finance, entertainment and health-care companies and more recently, taken calls from Barack Obama’s presidential campaign seeking his advice on mortgage and housing policy matters.”
It was during the Clinton Administration that legislation was passed that created this mess. In an attempt to have more low income families to own homes, they passed regulations that forced lenders to lower their lending standards and threatened banks with heavy penalties and fines if they did not make the loans–regardless of whether the individuals had the means to pay the loans.
If the Democrats really believed that the causes were Republican policies they would already be holding Congressional hearings. Instead there is nothing. That’s because they don’t want the public to know just how complicit they (the Democrats) have been in this crisis.

The Robert Bennett(D) attorney for the Senate ethics committee in the Keating 5 asked that McCain be released from the case because”there was no evidence against him”. McCain was completely exonerated. This is a lie being spread about by those who don’t know what they are talking about. The media at the eleventh hour is looking into all of Obama’s shady past, his connections in Chicago, to Franklin Reines, Jim Johnson and to Acorn which has been investigated for voter fraud and on and on. Hasn’t anyone wondered how this guy with no resume has gone so far so fast and who is behind him? Shame on the media, they gave him a pass. I don’t blame the kids. They think this is American Idol and you pick the coolest person. They are too young and impressionable to question the Pied Piper.

Now as for the Bush Administration and the Republican controlled Congress, in 2003, 2005 and again in 2006 the Bush Administration and some GOP Senators–including Sen. McCain–tried to pass legislation for more oversight of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac that would have headed off this crisis. But the Democrats in the Senate were able to block the legislation from being voted on by the full Senate.

LOL, it is so odd how the “polls” change every couple days and blue states become toss-ups even though some media outlets report Obama almost in double digit leads… strangely, everytime he is reported making gains somewhere, one of his sure thing states drop off. Couldnt be misinformation could it? The count seems mighty close to a tight race even though the reports are that the lead Obama has is getting pretty solid and unfluctuating from day to day. Hey somebody wouldnty want us to think its a very close race would they? Seems mighty peculiar. LOL ! This time it wont be like the last times !

Since 2OO4,many more Americans have learned that Republicans rely on smear campaigns and cheating. McCain said he would run a clean campaign and it’s ranking among the dirtiest. The sad thing is that when voters buy into the dirt, they vote against their best interests. This is why the USA is where it is today. Clinton left us in the black, GWB, with a Senate and House MAJORITY until 2OO6, has brought our economy to its knees and broken all of the campaign promises that got him elected. Face it Bush voters, you were lied to and used. Americans need to accept the FACT that the neocons have stolen the Republican party –the party of moderate, fiscally responsible and States’ rights advocates is no more. There are few that remain… in fact John McCain might once have been one of them, but he, too, has turned to the dark side. Do you want to live another 4 years under their regime with McCain?
VOTE FOR OBAMA!!

How is McCain having the “luxury” pf having to play defense in SOLID, BLOOD RED Republican states that went for Bush in 2004, like Indiana? Virginia and North Carolina are also solid states that are now leaning Obama. That’s saying something, if McCain is having to defend states that are traditionally Republican turf-the “don’t bother states”.
Look at RealClearPolitics or any other website. Obama has managed to eat into McCain’s lead in even Missouri and North Carolina, Virginia and Ohio, but at the same time, has managed to hold on well to his Kerry states. The electoral vote is practically a landslide, with Obama/Biden at 330+ to 180+ of McCain/Palin.
Electoral-vote (dot) com offers an interesting feature called “This Day in 2004″ showing the electoral map when it was Bush vs Kerry. It wasn’t true Kerry was going to win, his hold on states like Oregon and Washington were weak, Bush took Iowa and New Mexico and Colorado were trending Bush-all these states have been trending Obama-with Iowa a solid lock. Obama is clearly a stronger candidate compared to Kerry, reacting more swiftly to any attempted Swift-Boating.

Speaking as an Independent for Obama, Democrats must keep a keen focus on the road ahead and prepare Plan B and Plan C ready for the Rape-publican Lie Machine.
They know how to lie really, really well.
Prepare to hear lots of “character” and “family values” arguments from the candidate who cheated on his wife & family before calling Cindy the “C” word in public. ‘Can’t wait to hear that come up again.
(On a separate note, if Ayers is/was a terrorist WHY IN THE HELL hasn’t this Administration locked him away?!)

I don’t see how Obama can lose now. He’s up in all the swing states.

Obama will win because:
1. McCain looks more and more out of touch by the day. He is the epitome of social coservatism on its last legs.
2. He has only half-heartedlt tried to distance himself from the obviously failed policies of the Bush administration. No one believes that he isn’t a closet Bush clone.
3. Obama is younger, more alert, less easily flustered, more together, more genial, and has a better team behind him. He is increasingly showing his readiness to be President and has already more than amply demonstrated the requisite leadership qualities.
4. Palin is “Dubya without the brains,” as someone perhaps a little too cruelly put it. Worse, she comes across as the archetypal stooge who will do the GOP’s bidding without the slightest degree of compunction. She is the antiheroine of the feminist movement.
Everyone’s dread is that she might well one day herself assume the role of President, especially as McCain is so old and has been diagnosed as having a virulent form of cancer which people of his age are not expected to survive much past two years after having contracted the condition.
5. People don’t just *want* change now, they need it. The collapse of the economy is now rapily driving Obama into the White House.

McCain knew how to crash or
lose planes. And how to get
shot down by the enemy.
His campaign is falling to
pieces the same way.
He doesn’t have a snowball’s
chance.

Virginia won’t send Democrat to the white House, but they send Dem to be the Governor.
McCain will win Virginia.

Obama will win, Mccain is deseparate and now is stooping to dirty tactics. that is fine but when Barack starts putting Palin info and Mccain dirt back out no need for crying. It can’t be a double standard. I say Barack should fight fire with fire. Mccain is to old to be president he does not have a vision for america.I also don’t won’t a soccer mom for vp or president.
Posted by: ricky brown | October 5, 2008, 8:57 pm 8:57 pm
Obama is leading in the polls, in even in the red states. But we are forgetting that 4 million people registered to vote since Barack has been on scene. Just wait on the day of the election and see the turn out for Barack. The racist is a minority the young voters will decide this election. Mccain already pulled out of Mi,I think he should pull out of the race. We are tired of the republicans and there foolishness. There is no way we can let Mccain win. The republicans can’t be put back in office. Now the republicans are crying fraud in Ohio it is not fraud just a new wave of voters like never before. To truthful peolpe think it will be close, I don’t believe that Barack will win easy.

Judging by the shrillness and the unhinged rage of some of the Republicans posting here, they must be pretty worried. They view the polls and they know what is happening.
And when I see some of the name-calling and the hysteria against Senator Obama, it doesn’t make me like McCain more; it does the opposite. It makes me wonder what some of his supporters are like. I personally don’t want to be associated with some of these people.
When people are confident and secure, they don’t lash out. They don’t act desperate. They don’t slander and exaggerate in a last ditch effort to turn things around.
Why can’t McCain and Palin stick to the important issues and stop the personal attacks?
