Oh, That Joe! (No. 27 in a Series) –
"Now let me ask you, which way is West ‘By God’ Virginia?" Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del, asked the crowd at Ohio University Eastern Campus in St. Clairsville, Ohio, just now.
The crowd pointed towards the neighboring Mountaineer state.
"That way?" Biden asked. "That way? Well, I want to send a message to West Virginia. We’re going to win in West Virginia. Hello West Virginia! We’re going to shock the living devil out of you all!"
"So hang on, folks," Biden said. "Hang on! The whole valley’s coming the right way!"

Obama Backs Off Birth Control Battle?
Biden’ lightheartedness does the tense battle of forces in the presidential race a lot of good.
Thank you Joe, just keep them comin’.

Joe has a great face lift.
If Obama wins there will be a exodus of talent and capital like we have never seen before. There are a lot of people who will choose liberty over redistribution of wealth and liberation theology as the core philosophy of government.
The people have had it with nameless bureaucrats running the country. Nameless bureaucrats who also hate the country will be received even less well.

what is the deal with all the conservative jumping ship?
I don’t get it, mccain gave a half way decent speech today, and the next thing you hear from the brains of the conservative party-they are leaving.
and it’s to late.
I think he has a chance

it seems somewhere along obama’ political way, some of his mentors would have known if he was not a citizen.
his running for president would not have even got off the ground.

so…if you people who want to see obama birth certificate had one hour thirty minutes with obama, what you would want from him is his birth certificate?
is seeing a birth certificate the most important thing you want to know from someone who may become POTUS?

To bring McCain down, some of George W. Bush’s supporters on the far right peddled all manner of falsehoods about McCain, raising despicable charges about his time as a POW and suggesting (again falsely) that he had fathered an illegitimate child of color. In the past, McCain publicly condemned some of the very people who are now going after Obama.
McCain cannot be blamed for all of the crazies who see in Obama a chance to earn fame and fortune by concocting lies about him. And yes, we should defend the speech rights even of those whose views we find abhorrent. But the angry McCain-Palin crowds, and particularly those who threaten violence or shout racist epithets, should be a wake-up call to McCain.

erizin: explain this to me. the head of john mccain’s presidential transition team was paid to lobby for saddam hussien, who we considered to be the second most dangerous terrorist in the world. he accepted money to do this. it is not refuatble – it is public record, because his cronies were on trial and his role is very clear.
so this column uses time and space to discuss biden for the 29th (or whatever) time, in something completely trivial, but fails to mention this fact – which also came out today?
Posted by: mara | October 14, 2008, 6:41 pm 6:41 pm
Wake-up. I agree. John McCain can’t control what anyone says at his rallies. But he can speak out and denounce them. And he has not. He has also not spoken out against the head of the Virginia RC, who is encouraging supporters to call Obama “Obama Bin Laden.” Maybe its because he hired Tucker Eskew, the man who came up with the SC slurs to help run his campaign. Again, the John McCain of 2000 would not recognize or vote for the John McCain for 2008.
Posted by: mara | October 14, 2008, 6:45 pm 6:45 pm
you can be sure the if you can’t control your campaign, you cannot control the country.
sarah palin said to rush lim
“I have nothing to lose” when asked about the yells and what she is saying at the rally’s.
when john mccain looks back over this campaign, trying to figure out he lost.
one big area he can look at will be his decision to pick sarah “i have nothing to lose” palin.
Posted by: world | October 14, 2008, 6:51 pm 6:51 pm
You gotta love Joe. Who else would say this sort of crazy stuff? And I mean “crazy” in a lovable way, not “crazy” in a Sarah Palin call the Secret Service kind of way…

Posted by: CC | October 14, 2008, 6:53 pm 6:53 pm
needless to say i don’t think sarah palin should be vp or pres.
what scares me about her is he seeming to not know-what she does not know.
and heaven help us we might be about to let someone into the wh or near the white house, who says, “i am not a reader” or cannot tell someone what mags. they read.

it is a good trait for a politician to be able to kid anc cut up with the massed, and then be able to get right down to business when he needs to.
that is joe biden.
ready, always steady joe biden.
he will be a good dose of the real world for obama when he needs to be.
i really don’t see joe being a yes man to anyone.
and that is just what a president needs.
tell us what we need to know joe.

“Hey Botox man – tell the farmers in West Virginia that they’ll be FORCED to share their wealth with the local heroine addict and see how far that gets ya!!”
Oooh, addicted to which heroines, Ronald? Politically, my heroine of choice would probably be Eleanor Roosevelt, but I’m also partial to literary heroines, like Elizabeth Bennett.
Obama’s got a Hawai’ian birth certificate, this shoddy rumour’s been debunked until it just can’t bunk anymore. Use the Google, learn all.
And there’s nothing wrong with the word “dementia”. Anyone using it in connection with Joe Biden’s clearly never actually been around someone WITH dementia, though, so moot point.

Someone needs to give him a sticky to remind him where he is from one day to the next. I think the botox needle was a little too long. I am surprised he didn’t pull out his fake southern accent for West Virginia and talk to the crowd like they were children like he did in Florida. “Y’all. Did you understand that Yall.” I cannot believe this guy thinks he thinks he can mock us and we wouldn’t realize he was mocking us.

Oh, please.
If anyone out there really believes all of these red states are turning blue, I’ll sell you that Bridge to Nowhere in Alaska.
I strongly believe the voter registration fraud is just the tip of the iceberg for the underhanded dealings that have been going on during this entire election, starting with the primaries.
The Democratic Party is trying to make voters believe this election is a lost cause so Republican voters will stay home on Election Day.
Don’t be fooled. Exercise your right to vote.

As Biden’s mother would have said, “God love him!”.
There is nothing false about hope.

Lee, you have not been paying a shred of attention. oregon will be blue this year -Merkeley will win and so will Obama. Mark & Tom Udall will win as will Mark Begich, Jeanne Shaheen, Mark Warner and Kay Hagen. My biggest hope is for Andrew Rice. He MUST win.
see? these red states are turning blue. the higher ratings Obama has in these red states, the more likely these candidates will grab these senate seats. See how that works?

Stand up and cheer,
Cheer loud and long for old Ohio,
For today we raise
The Green and White above the rest.
Our boys are fighting
And they are bound to win the fray.
We’ve got the team,
We’ve got the steam,
For this is old Ohio’s day!
(Also West Virginia’s.)

hypocrisy… thy name is McCain
William Timmons, the Washington lobbyist who John McCain has named to head his presidential transition team, aided an influence effort on behalf of Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein to ease international sanctions against his regime.
The two lobbyists who Timmons worked closely with over a five year period on the lobbying campaign later either pleaded guilty to or were convicted of federal criminal charges that they had acted as unregistered agents of Saddam Hussein’s government.
During the same period beginning in 1992, Timmons worked closely with the two lobbyists, Samir Vincent and Tongsun Park, on a previously unreported prospective deal with the Iraqis in which they hoped to be awarded a contract to purchase and resell Iraqi oil.
Timmons, Vincent, and Park stood to share at least $45 million if the business deal went through.
- Timmons’ activities occurred in the years following the first Gulf War, when Washington considered Iraq to be a rogue enemy state and a sponsor of terrorism. His dealings on behalf of the deceased Iraqi leader stand in stark contrast to the views his current employer held at the time.

I hope everyone remembers: PreSarah Palin, john mccain’ rallys were civil.
since sarah palin-you have this kind of mess going on at rep. palin rallys.
Why do i think it is the sarah palin factor, because, we have not heard from any republicans at the local level who are holding rally’s for re-election having this kind of mess being said.
the Common denom. is sarah palin
I hope someone in the news media will make this connection.
and I am a dem. sen. clinton and now obama supporter.
and I refuse to believe this is going on at any other rep. rallys.
The biggest mistake john mccain has made in this election cycle is picking sarah palin for his vp.
he knows it-but he has made his bed and now he has to wallow in it too.
and make no mistake, the thinking reps the ones who set policy for the rep. agenda, and probally many in the RNC
have all been broad-sided by this backfire of a political stunt.
when mccain first picked her everyone went “BRILLIANT”-and now all the bigwig reps. just want to go for a long nap until this is over.
I don’t agree with them, but i like and respect david brooks, and bill kristol.
i have just started becoming familiar with will. fr. buckleys son-i don’t know his work, but i heard him today,
and when you have these high caliber guys saying the things they are saying now-it really is worth taking notice, and i do believe now-for mccain-the fat lady is looking his way and warming up.
i have republican friends, and they were and the operative word is WERE impressed for a minute with palin.
now all they do is shake their heads, men and WOMEN.
anyone who supported sen. clinton who now says they will vote mccain/palin because palin is a woman, is fooling themselves and lying to you.
women usually want to take the high road. the way the mccain camp and these rallys are going by the time this is over, sarah palin’ influence will be so small, if they were to get into the wh.
she would have a hard time getting anything good done for her supporters.
she says she is a mavrick, and they are going to change washington, well, someone should tell her, that crowd in washington “aint’t no nuns and priest”
and will not go quietly.
you people who are still undecided,
we cannot go backward, you know there is a lot of damage control work that needs to be done here at home and abroad, it will not happen with mccain and palin, people already think mccain and palin are a joke,( and they were the ones who caused it to be so)
and the way their rallys are playing across the world will not help.
indies-
you know you want to help your country.
get off the fence-take a chance it will not hurt.
obama, may not get all of the things he says he wants to get done, but at least (unlike mccain and co. already) he is not hurting our image more.
obama/biden 08

I never get all the Biden gaffes, Jake, but sure as hell, Gov. Palin hasn’t come close to his, but if she slipped JUST ONCE…..it would be splashed everywhere. PALIN ROCKS….SHE IS A BIGGER POLITICAL STAR THAN BOZO.
It will be great having a woman as our 44th VP!
HILLARY SUPPORTER FOR McCAIN
My favorite Biden gaffes: crying three times (once with hankie), asking Chuck to stand up (Chuck in wheelchair), saying he’d never have run those nasty ads about McCain’s disability as Obama did, and my favorites are when he speaks lovingly of McCain to the point that I really do believe he’d rather be running with John and doesn’t think Obama is qualified AS HE SAID A FEW SHORT MONTHS AGO.
I COULDN’T AGREE MORE.

I was undecided on my candidate until the VP candidates were announced. When Biden joined the Obama ticket, I was impressed! A good, solid choice.
Then McCain announced Palin as his running mate.
Huh? The lady who advocates killing wolves from helicoptors? Denning? The artless practitioner of blatant nepotism? THAT Sarah Palin? As VP candidate for a 72 year old man with a history of cancer?
Uh…yeah, I know who I’m voting for.

O-bam-a and Biden would be horrible for both Ohio and West Virginia. They owe so much to the wacko lobby that they would shut down the coal industry and power plants, throwing tens of thousands of Americans out of work to save the Arctic teat mouse.
They say they’re for “clean coal technology”. What they mean is they want to develop it at taxpayer expense, then give it away for free to the Chinese and have even more production shipped over to cheap Chinese labor.
