Oh, That Joe! (No. 31 in a Series) — Biden Loves Dave Matthews?
Speaking at a Seattle fundraiser Sunday evening, Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., had the difficult task of following an opening act performance by Dave Matthews.
Once Matthews finished his brief acoustic set, Biden took the stage at the downtown Sheraton hotel alongside Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., but the Democratic vice presidential nominee quickly noticed that Murray’s Washington state colleague, Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., had elected to stay seated in the crowd next to the evening’s musical guest.
"She’s sitting where the real power is," Biden quipped.
"Dave Matthews, I want you to know, I’ve got more of your CDs, I’ve got more of the Dave Matthews Band than you could imagine, since my kids were in college," Biden then said.
"One of the dangerous things to do is come out on stage after some talent like Dave Matthews stops singing," Biden noted.
"I know," he said to the crowd. "I could hear you murmur, ‘Oh, no, don’t stop, Dave, don’t stop.’"
"If I could sing, Dave, I could at least lip-sync every one of your songs since you first came out," the loquacious Blue Hen continued. "I’m serious, we are fans."
Mercifully, the Democratic vice presidential nominee did not serenade the crowd with his interpretation of any DMB songs.
Though "So Much to Say" comes to mind.

Sen. DeMint: GOP Race Could Go Until Convention
Obama Avoids Questions on Contraception Rule
Joe Biden is a fan of where ever he happens to be at the moment.
He reminds me of my Irish uncle at the pub who, after a few drinks, could always tell a tall tail and “one up” everyone.
Joe said -
“When growing up, I always dreamed of being in the football hall of fame.” Trouble is the football hall of fame didn’t exist until Joe was 21.
“I graduated at the top of my class in law school”. Fact -Joe graduated 76th out of 85.
“Its a three letter word – JOBS”. I count 4 letters.
“…at the Blue Hen” — the dinner has been closed for a long time.
He couldn’t serve his country because he was 4F. Yet he could play football and baseball in school. And Joe did get an “F” in ROTC.
Sounds like Joe takes a litle nip before each speech. Or maybe the botox has seeped into his brain and that makes him shoot off his big mouth.

During his first campaign for the Illinois state senate in 1995-96, Barack Obama was a member of, and was endorsed by, the far-left New Party. Obama’s New Party ties give the lie to his claim to be a post-partisan, post-ideological pragmatist.

Joe Biden is the type of guy in your place of work that you avoid at office parties.
And in the office he is always hanging around the coffee machine, so you hate to go get coffee while he is there because he will waste your time talking your ear off about some frivoulous blah-blah-blah about himself.
“Great, Joe, gotta’ go back to work now- great story, maybe you can finish it next time…ha…ha..ha..bye.”

I just don’t get this “feature.” So, Biden is effusive. Is that the point? Is this bad? I mean, he’s not calling anyone’s patriotism into question, he’s not accusing anyone of terrorism. And when he strikes back at his counterpart who does, it barely gets a note.
But he proclaims an interest in the Dave Matthews Band and is verbious? Really?
I think the overstatement award goes not to him, but to Tapper in finding this newsworthy.
Not that I mind — this is the only place you find ANY coverage of Biden — he always comes across as likable. But still, this is weak tea.

And at the gym, Joe Biden is the guy that you never see actually lifting any weights or on any of the excercise machines. He just drapes his towel over one and strikes up a conversation with whomever walks by. Of course, he just wants to talk about his fitness prowess, stories of famous weigh lifters (“Did you know Arnold Schwarzeneggar started out as a weight lifter?”) and how properly to use the excercise machine.
Every one in the gym quickly learns to avoid Joe – he will excercies your ear off with his jabbering about himself and his “endless” knowledge.
The only time you see him in a sweat is after he returns from a long visit to the restroom.

Heres a little reminder for everyone.
Between 2000 and 2007 Barak Obama and his wife gave less then 1 Percent to charities on their 1.2 MILLION DOLLAR salary, far below the national average. While the McCain’s gave well ABOVE the national average. I guess spreading the wealth for Obama means everybody else’s money BUT HIS!!!!! And anybody who believes the rich will pay more taxes under Obama just has no clue and lives in a fantasy world. FACT, Jimmy Carter tried the same thing and the rich pulled their money out of the economy and placed it in TAX FREE treasury bonds and into offshore accounts. Inflation spiraled and interest rates on mortgages rose to 16 Percent. The rich paid LESS in taxes then any other time in the history of the US. So, if it makes you feel better to think the rich are getting screwed, go ahead, but it’s just not going to happen, and the middle class will me screwed again. Learn some history before you vote for a fantasy!!!!
If you’re in the fourth quintile, LIKE A LOT OF PEOPLE making between almost $66,000 and about $110,000, McCain gives you a $1,487 tax cut, Obama will give you a $1,264 tax cut.
If you’re in the top quintile, LIKE MANY MARRIED COUPLES making above $110,000, McCain will give you a tax cut of $12,144 while Obama will raise your taxes $4,600 more. (To suss this out a little more — the Obama campaign says it will not raise taxes on individuals making more than $200,000, or couples making more than $250,000.)

Klein: Now terrorists swoon over Biden. Hamas says VP candidate will help Obama with ‘right policy’ for Middle East
“JERUSALEM – In an exclusive interview tonight, a senior Hamas official heaped praise on Sen. Joe Biden, calling him a “very nice” person and a “great man” whose record “speaks volumes” and who can be counted on by the terror group to engage in the “right policy” toward the Middle East.
During the interview with WND’s Aaron Klein and WABC Radio’s John Batchelor, the Hamas figure also expressed hope regarding Sen. Barack Obama’s “vision for change,” announcing Hamas will send Obama a letter of congratulation “the moment he will win the election.”
Ahmed Yousef, Hamas’ chief political adviser in the Gaza Strip, called Biden a “very prominent figure when it comes to the politics of the region.”
“I do believe Mr. Biden, he is well known, he is familiar with the situation here in Palestine. I think he is a very nice person. … Yes, he is well aware of the political situation here in Palestine, and I do believe he might do something to change the bad image about America and enhance that image,” Yousef said during the interview.
“His record speaks volumes. I do believe Mr. Biden is a great man. And we do count on him also as a good partner with Mr. Obama to put the right policy regarding how to handle the problems in the region.”
Speaking about Obama, Yousef commented that it’s “good for America to have a new administration with someone like Mr. Obama and his vision for a change.”
“I do believe actually with this administration, with the Bush administration we don’t have luck (ending Hamas’ isolation). …We as Palestinians are thinking that we might have better luck with a new administration, maybe, if Obama wins the election. I do believe he will change the American foreign policy … in the way they are handling the Middle East,” Yousef said.”

Leave off Joe!
He doesn’t translate well into print – when I have listened to the same speech (when posted) that is transcribed, the transcription is accurate, but doesn’t portray what he is trying to say. He is warmer, and doesn’t sound as silly as is may seem in print only. Also, you can see him really connecting with his crowd – this is what he is supposed to be doing. He seems to genuinely like these people, and he’s not mean. He is serious when he needs to be serious.
I agree with Lettuce, Jake. The real substance is there (unlike the other VP candidate) and the style works for the setting. Don’t be a “media elite”, please!

The idea that anything Colin Powell says is taken seriously is a stretch. The fact that he has – to the surprise of no one – endorsed Barack Obama for president only makes his political impotence complete.
Powell has no standing in the Republican party, or the conservative movement, nor in the Democratic party for that matter (considering how they slimed him with charges of “collusion” with Bush in war crimes).
The press is making this a big story because Powell may still garner respect among some “independents.” But the idea that this endorsement will help Obama is wildly overblown. It has about as much impact as an endorsement by Bruce Springsteen – which is to say little or nil.
Still, it is interesting that Powell did not endorse Obama for his foreign policy views but rather because Powell believes he would be better at handling the current economic crisis: Obama displayed a steadiness, an intellectual curiosity, a depth of knowledge.
If Obama is elected get ready for another attack on US soil. Israel is already bracing for Obama to talk with Iran.

Taxes can be raised where they can be raised (on the wealthy)? Clinton did it if you recall the budget crisis of 1993, and Obama will go in with a mandate to do so, like it or not. I think the country was just waiting for someone to “talk and talk” long enough to say it’s patriotic to pay taxes–it will help good ideas from all people come to fruition and the “lower” classes have good ideas, too, if not the money to see them through.

The candidate who has been criticized for having a bunker mentality when it came to the national media can now lay legitimate claim to being more accessible than either Joe Biden or Barack Obama.
In the past two days alone, Palin has answered questions from her national press corps on three separate occasions. On Saturday, she held another plane availability, and on Sunday, she offered an impromptu press conference on the tarmac upon landing in Colorado Springs. A few minutes later, she answered even more questions from reporters during an off-the-record stop at a local ice cream shop.
By contrast, Biden hasn’t held a press conference in more than a month, and Obama hasn’t taken questions from his full traveling press corps since the end of September.

Has anyone else noticed that Michelle Obama has been taken out of circulation except for a recent appearance on the Daily show?
Could it be that they realize that she is definitely a detriment to their ticket?
To me, she really would be one of the worst aspects of an Obama presidency. To think that she would be carted around on Air Force one is a joke. That she would benefit from all that this glorious country has to offer is sickening. The same country that she has never been proud of. The idea of her sleeping in the White House is preposterous.
It is important that the Silent Majority, all 100,000,000 million of us of voting age, turn out in all our force and send Michele Obama back to Chicago where she belongs. This will be the most important vote of our generation, please don’t leave it up to others to vote for you.

GOTHAM-TO-OHIO VOTE SCAM EYED
NYERS’ HOME AWAY FROM HOME PROBED AS A FRAUD OUTPOST
” Four well-heeled New York Democrats are under investigation by an Ohio prosecutor for setting up a temporary home in the swing state – where two have already cast their ballots – just so that their votes will be counted there, The Post has learned.
The targets of the probe – including the daughter and son-in-law of a New York City real-estate titan, a former New York Sun reporter and a Bank of New York Mellon executive – are connected to Vote From Home, a Manhattan-based political action committee set up to get voters to the polls in Ohio, where residents are allowed to cast ballots 29 days before Election Day, investigators said. ”

OBAMA LIED ABOUT HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH TERRORIST BILL AYERS
He wasn’t just some “guy who lived in the neighborhood” in Chicago.
THEY WORKED ON THE SAME FLOOR OF THE SAME OFFICE BUILDING FOR SEVERAL YEARS.
And, it was a little building at 115 South Sangamon in Chicago Illinois where they worked together.
Barack Obama told George Stephanopoulos during the ABC democratic primary debate in April that “Bill Ayers” was just “a guy who lives in my neighborhood.”
But, yesterday it was revealed that Barack Obama and Bill Ayers actually shared the same office building- on the same floor- for several years!

Barack Obama, terrorist Bill Ayers and Maoist hardliner Mike Klonsky shared the same office in Chicago for several years.
Moaist Mike Klonsky worked at 115 South Sangamon in Chicago on the University of Illinois Chicago Campus:

On the very same day he told us that Colin Powell should have ended all questions about Barack Obama’s national security bona fides, Joe Biden comes along to tell us precisely why we should be scared of Obama as commander-in-chief:
“Mark my words,” the Democratic vice presidential nominee warned at the second of his two Seattle fundraisers Sunday. “It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. The world is looking. We’re about to elect a brilliant 47-year-old senator president of the United States of America. Remember I said it standing here if you don’t remember anything else I said. Watch, we’re gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy.”
“I can give you at least four or five scenarios from where it might originate,” Biden said to Emerald City supporters, mentioning the Middle East and Russia as possibilities. “And he’s gonna need help. And the kind of help he’s gonna need is, he’s gonna need you – not financially to help him – we’re gonna need you to use your influence, your influence within the community, to stand with him. Because it’s not gonna be apparent initially, it’s not gonna be apparent that we’re right.”
Well, golly, if Obama is so untested that we will have a series of international crises — at the very time we are in a financial meltdown — which will make the Cuban Missille Crisis look like a walk in the park, shouldn’t we vote for the other guy who will keep all the miscreants in their place? Now, maybe we should rest easy because, according to Biden, “I’ve forgotten more about foreign policy than most of my colleagues know, so I’m not being falsely humble with you.” (Maybe Hezbollah’s occupation of Lebanaon was one of the things he forgot.)
Something tells me this is material for an ad that’s a lot more credible than Hillary Clinton’s “3 a.m.” ad. That one came from his arguably frantic opponent–this one is from his running mate.

Jake Tapper’s “Oh, That Joe!” series is his little way of trying to act like a balanced, fair, objective reporter.
He can say he has had (now) 31 digs against Joe and an equal amount against Gov. Palin.
But the “Oh, That Joe!” series is just sugar-coated, homespun fluff; whereas the Gov. Palin entries are full out, angry attacks.
Has Jake ever written a real negative, serious critique about Joe Biden in this blog? Just colorful “whacky” anecdotes about good ol’ Joe in between the attacks on McCain and Palin.

HERO,
“Barack Obama told George Stephanopoulos during the ABC democratic primary debate in April that “Bill Ayers” was just “a guy who lives in my neighborhood.”
Your a liar or uninformed please see the text of the transcript that is on abcs website:
OBAMA: George, but this is an example of what I’m talking about. This is a guy who lives in my neighborhood, who’s a professor of English in Chicago who I know and who I have not received some official endorsement from. He’s not somebody who I exchange ideas from on a regular basis.
And the notion that somehow as a consequence of me knowing somebody who engaged in detestable acts 40 years ago, when I was 8 years old, somehow reflects on me and my values doesn’t make much sense, George.
The fact is that I’m also friendly with Tom Coburn, one of the most conservative Republicans in the United States Senate, who, during his campaign, once said that it might be appropriate to apply the death penalty to those who carried out abortions.
Do I need to apologize for Mr. Coburn’s statements? Because I certainly don’t agree with those, either.
So this kind of game in which anybody who I know, regardless of how flimsy the relationship is, that somehow their ideas could be attributed to me, I think the American people are smarter than that. They’re not going to suggest somehow that that is reflective of my views, because it obviously isn’t.

OBAMA: Look, I’m going to have to respond to this just really quickly, but by Senator Clinton’s own vetting standards, I don’t think she would make it, since President Clinton pardoned or commuted the sentences of two members of the Weather Underground, which I think is a slightly more significant act…
(APPLAUSE)
GIBSON: Please.

EXCLUSIVE: .22 Gunshot, paint balls fired at McCain / Palin Straight Talk Express
October 19th, 2008
(Sunday, October 19 – Filed by Mark Williams in Raton, New Mexico with the Stop Obama Tour) We learned at this morning’s Stop Obama Rally here that the McCain/Palin Straight Talk Express came through town yesterday. It arrived with a window shattered by a .22 caliber weapon. It had also been hit by an unknown number of paint balls from a paint ball gun or guns. There were reportedly no injuries and neither candidate was on board.
One local man who saw the damage and spoke with the McCain/Palin staffers said the attack(s) had occured in southern New Mexico that same day. The Express is traveling the country independent of the candidates, handing out campaign materials.
Sarah Palin is stumping in of all places Roswell, New Mexico today and then roughly back the way we came with an event at the Henderson, Nevada Pavilion tomorrow and a stop in Elko, Nevada.

Barack Obama told George Stephanopoulos during the ABC democratic primary debate in April that “Bill Ayers” was just “a guy who lives in my neighborhood.”
===================
Hero, This explaination has been refined since Bill Ayers/Obama relationship came up.
The first time he was asked about Ayers, Obama said that Ayers was just a neighbor whose kids went to the same school as his own kids.
BIll Ayers’ kids are adults while, as we all know, Obama’s are in elementary school.
Caught in another lie, and when it was found out that Obama served on more than one board with him and he kicked off his political career in Ayers living room, the relationship just continues to evolve.
I’m sure that IF Obama manages to con his way into the White House. we will learn a lot more about this.
Obama wrote a blurb in Ayers book. They are definitely more than just “neighbors” and “casual co-workers”.

Obama Holds Slight Lead 46.6 to 42.5 Over McCain– 11.9% Undecided
Investor’s Business Daily/TIPP polling, the most accurate pollster of the 2004 campaign season, has McCain making a 2 point gain today on Barack Obama’s lead.
Obama still holds a slight lead at 46.6 to 42.5 over Senator John McCain.
11.9% of registered voters are still undecided.
That undecided number has to concern the Democrats.
Drudge linked to the Real Clear Politics average today where Obama holds a 4.8% lead over John McCain in an average of all the polls at 48.8% to 44% for McCain.

“KristenPowers”—-thanks so much for posting that scary, odd statement about a looming international crisis that BIden made on Saturday. I could not help but notice that Mr. Tapper did not see fit to include that little gem, which has actual consequences, in his “Oh, that Joe” series.
After all, I’m beginning to see, OTJ is designed to show us that Joe is a regular guy, who says goofy things but is basically harmless and entertaining. We can trust good old Joe to run the country alongside good old Barack. If that’s the message, count me out. Joe BIden is not just a regular guy. He is a tough politician with an instinct for self-preservation and a love of his own voice. He is not a cuddly goofball.
And when he says things like he said on Saturday about the dangers we face, he makes me as nervous as the guy on the top of his ticket does. But we can’t expect the media to pay much attention to what Biden had to say, because it is extremely inconvenient. Is Biden just rambling, or is he dropping hints based on the intelligence briefings the Bush administration is giving the candidates? The media does not want people to be reminded that it is John McCain, not Barak Obama, who has the experience that we would need in such a crisis. The Obama campaign does not want people wondering if there are challenges ahead that Obama is not prepared to handle.
The money quote here is Biden’s plea for support because “it’s not gonna be apparent initially, it’s not gonna be apparent that we’re right.” So he seems to have some specific response or lack of response to some scenario in mind. What the hell is this guy talking about and why is the press so incurious about it? Guess they’re all out camped on Joe the Plumber’s lawn, hoping to prove he doesn’t recycle or something equally crucial to the American electorate as we face the final weeks of the campaign.

Arnie,
No one shoots off their big mouth more than Falin-she made a comment about socialism, and she’s too stupid to know what the word means. If she did, she wouldn’t use it since a Republican president has socialized the banks in the last few weeks. But since she is illiterate and uneducated, she doesn’t even know what she’s talking about.
She should go back to her kitchen window and looking at Russia. She talks down Washington, DC-but she’s doing everything she can in her little Caribou Barbie way to get there!! She’s a panderer and she appeals to the basest of ideas and emotions. She should apologize to Sen. Obama and his family for egging on the crowds, and inciting them to yell threats to his life. She has no right to do this, and she should be ashamed of herself.

What Joe said was not worth an article.
What is the deal Jake with the big focus on Biden.
How about Oh, That Sarah.

Th 2008 campaign is showing Democrats to be “real people” and the Republicans “ultimate victims” of their own doing.

Something New Here
Radical? Check. Tied to Liddy? Check.
Tied to Iran-Contra? Check. Tied to Lobbyist Tom Loeffler & Saudis? Check.
Tied to lobbyist Doug Goodyear & military junta in Burma? Check.
Tied to Rick Davis and Freddie/Fannie?Check.
McCain = too radical, too risky, too dirty, too beholden to lobbyists

Could we have a 29-Part Series on Sarah Palin? The only interview she has done lately was on the Christian Broadcasting System. When was the last time a candidate for a non-religious office gave an interview on this station – at the exclusion of everyone but Fox (and Katie Couric, of course)?
And what’s wrong with Dave Matthews?

Hero – I actually get Investor’s Business Daily – through no fault of my own. 1) It is a tabloid, which ran an 18-Part Anti-Obama series, full of lies and innuendo 2) It regularly has Michelle Malkin as a guest columnist 3) It is an ultra, ultra right wing tabloid 4) No one, and I mean no one who is reputable would consider this paper, with it’s pretend name to be a resource for reliable polling. There are good polllsters who lean right, left and center, but Investor’s Business Daily is not one of them. They are also not used by the business community. A npoll in the NYC financial district found that no one had ever heard of them. They are a fraud – on the order of the crap that Scaife tried to do in the 90s.

Point is people like Joe Biden and relate to him. What some of you think is not a good point that other countries like the Obama /Biden team the point is we have to work with other countries and McCain does not have the temperment to do that

I like this series because it does, at least, give some sustained coverage of Joe Biden. Multiple accounts, including most recently Ryan Lizza’s fascinating piece in The New Yorker, have portrayed Senator Biden as the most accessible of all the candidates currently running for an Executive position. Yet he has consistently had to struggle for press coverage, while his rival – who will coast through the entire election without having once given a *single* press conference – luxuriates in such a surfeit of coverage that she feels fine about banishing reporters from her presence.
So even though I sometimes dislike the condescension that Mr. Tapper’s reports seem to carry, and even though I think the name of this series has long since passed its freshness date, I am still grateful for OTJ. Keep em coming, Jake. :-)
On another note, having just attended a James Taylor GOTV concert for Obama in NC – wow, these guys have some serious musician love. Some serious multi-generational musician love. Arcade Fire and Superchunk in NC in the spring (when you need college students’ turnout to win the primary); James Taylor in the fall (when you need their parents and grandparents to win the general). Living in a swing state rocks. Literally.
