Orrin Hatch: Palin ‘Being Set Up’; Ifill ‘In the Tank’
Don’t think Republicans are trying to get some mileage out of this (wholly manufactured) Gwen Ifill thing?
This fundraising solicitation just went out from the National Republican Senatorial Committee, signed by Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah.
“Watch out.
“Sarah Palin is being set up.
“The moderator of tonight’s debate is in the tank for Obama — this liberal PBS reporter is releasing a pro-Obama book . . . to debut on inauguration day.
“Joe Biden is receiving debate advice from Hillary Clinton.
“And, Barack Obama’s attack machine is gearing up to launch millions of dollars in new ads against Palin.”
Wow — Hillary Clinton plus liberal reporters? How can a good Republican not open up the money faucet?
Tune into ABC News Now’s live debate coverage at 8 pm ET. HERE.

With all the negative press coverage by the liberal media of Governor Palin, one would guess American citizens could trust her more than any current member of congress with their below 10% approval rating.
Posted by: Himtngal | October 2, 2008, 6:18 pm 6:18 pm
I think Palin will be able to hold here own—but it still still leaves a stench in the air that the moderator is so pro-Obama. Would the Democrats tolerate Ann Coulter as moderator even if she promised to be fair?
Posted by: D Mac | October 2, 2008, 6:19 pm 6:19 pm
Gwen is a black woman in a wheelchair who works for PBS/NPR and she’s going to be FAIR to Gov Palin? How dumb do they think we are? This quota woman isn’t unbiased enough to run this debate..she’s got a book coming out ON Barack Hussein Obama……..geez, talk about conflict of interest. Palin isn’t the one in over her head……
Posted by: kitty | October 2, 2008, 6:20 pm 6:20 pm
There is no way this debate can be fair with Ifill as the moderator. She has a clear conflict of interest – think how much more money her book will make on Inauguration Day if Obama is elected. I have never, ever seen an election where the media has thrown their support totally and unequivocably (and unabashedly) behind a candidate. It is shameful.

How did the debates get set up this way? NBC stations? Ifill? Who let them do this? Names please.

Palin has been playing victim every step of the way since day one, why stop now? on the surface the Ifill thing seems a little sketchy, but we’ll see how it actually plays out.. She might actually do her job professionally end even handed. No matter what though, Palin will never take responsibility for being ignorant, inexperienced, and uninformed.
Posted by: simpleburn | October 2, 2008, 6:20 pm 6:20 pm
Oh yeah – no setup. The dems wouldn’t cry fould if Sean Hannity was moderating the debate. Would they?
Ifill wrote a book about Obama winning the Presidency – she wouldn’t suffer at all by him losing.

I think it’s funny that the Dems refuse to debate on FoxNews but the moderator of the VP debate can be an open supporter (and have a direct financial conflict of interest) of Obama? Something doesn’t sound right…

ABC might as well be MSNBC – your bias and love for Obama and all things Obama makes the rest of us sick. We still don’t understand what the people of Michigan with their Democratic Governor, 2 Democratic senators and mostly democratic congressmen are thinking – definition of insanity – keep voting in Democrats and expect the things in Michigan to improve. Palin will do fine inspite of the member of the Obama campaign as the moderator. The MSM has become the biggest joke and american people the biggest losers in this election.

Biden is a liar…just like Obama.

How is Palin not set up? Oh, let’s see. The mod didn’t reveal she was writing a book largely about African-Americans in politics and specifically an Obama environment. The book is set for release on inauguration day.
This goes beyond the typical “ref has a favorite team” that we typically see with these moderators. This ref has a bet on the game. She stands to make far more book money with an Obama victory than an Obama defeat. If that isn’t a conflict of interest, then nothing is.

I’m getting a little tired of the sinister lack of integrity I see all around the Democratic political scene. There is an acute lack of moral turpitude and honor from Obama on down. Obama and his supporters seem to be invigorated by the opportunities that open to them as a result of questionable occurrences and outright outright sinister happenings. DISGUSTING!!
Posted by: Crenshaw, NYC | October 2, 2008, 6:21 pm 6:21 pm
Regardless of your politics, you can not deny that Ifill has a financial stake in an Obama victory. Her book releases on the day of inauguration. Her book will make a ton of money if Obama wins and likely bomb if he doesn’t. For this reason alone she should be removed as the moderator.
Posted by: David | October 2, 2008, 6:21 pm 6:21 pm
I must be missing something. Are you trying to say that Gwen Ifill is not writing a book that positively trumpets Obama and that will not impact her in any way at the debate? I can only imagine what you liberal shills at ABC would be saying if the proverbial shoe was on the other foot. Give me a break! The entire media establishment is invested in Obama winning. There is no other choice. The Messiah is inevitable and if not, then we are all racists. God help this country!

Rick Klein, just how much deeper can you get into Obama’s tank, I can just imagine your outrage if they had asked Rush Limbaugh to moderate the debate.
Posted by: Sarah12 | October 2, 2008, 6:22 pm 6:22 pm
If you think someone who wrote a book whose title was that this was the “McCain Age in America” could do this debate then you are deluding yourself. Of course Palin is being set up. The Media bias in this campaign is despictable. If the real truth were told about Obama he would be in the 20% range in the polls. Why does the Media hate America? That is the real question.
Posted by: SA | October 2, 2008, 6:22 pm 6:22 pm
‘wholly manufactured’? who are you trying to b.s.?
it would’ve helped if Ifill were honest and told the debate commission that she was writing this book when they met with her about this opportunity.
so if Obama wins, then Ifill profits in book sales. and for someone to say that this book isn’t about ‘Obama’, etc.. i remind you that the scheduled release date is Inauguration Day.
she should not moderate this debate. it’s flat out wrong.

Rick,
Maybe the fact that studies that show 60-70% of Americans believe that jouralists are in the tank for Obama is somehow wholly manufactured too. Here book title after all is about a “Breakthrough” in the “Age of Obama.” Yeah, no vested interest in the outcome of this election here. The only thing wholly manufactured is the journalistic hubris and phony outrage of articles like this one. Here’s a new’s flash for you: Jouralists are to report facts, not arbitrate truth. There’s a reason why the majority of Americans do not trust the MSM.

Media bias is still more of an issue than the moderator’s. Biden can make any number of gaffes (like he has already) and the media won’t run it. Palin can make only one, and it will be in three different cover stories on the NYT or CNN.

All Ifill needs is one “gotcha” question, well placed, and it will be wallpapered on every liberal media outlet for the next 72 hours. IT’S NOT THAT HARD ESPECIALLY FOR SOMEONE WHO STANDS TO MAKE A MILLION DOLLARS ON AN OBAMA VICTORY IN NOVEMBER

(1) Gwen Ifill has a book coming out on Inauguration Day. (2) Ifill’s book will contain a prominent section on Senator Obama, whose name and no other is featured in the title. (3) If Obama wins, Ifill will sell more books and make more money. People don’t buy near as many books about losing candidates. (4) Therefore, Ifill has a financial interest in the outcome of the election.

Even the Columbia Journalism Review has – reluctantly – admitted that Ifill has a major conflict here. Let’s have some intellectual honesty. She is publishing a book with “the age of Obama” in the title set to be published on inauguration day. For heavens sake to say she has no financial stake in the election outcome is absurd. Perhaps that is why she did not bother to inform the McCain campaign or the CPD of the book. The left was SCREAMING about Armstrong Williams – this is much, much more serious and it is really sad that people are so determined to see him win that ethics, honesty or professionalism are throw away commodities.

I doubt she will be totally objective. We have already seen the “fair” media with Gibson and Couric. Look at how they fawn over Obama and treat Palin like she is a blithering idiot.
I think all this exposure will make Ifill more attentive because she does not want to be accused of being biased. Now she has to work hard to at least appear neutral, something she might not have had to do had the book revelation not come out.
I wish Ifill had the sense this guy has.

When the moderator, the definition of which is an unbiased person), has a book coming out that will undoubtably sell more if THE ONE wins, It is NOT a (wholly manufactured) thing.
If Ifell had told everyone up front, she would seem a lot more non-biased then she does now, after letting others discover her financial stake in the election.
She admits she did not inform the debate commission. Why not? She is not an unintelligent woman.
Her actions managed to insert her into the story, where a reporter should never be.
It looks like more proof of the left-wing media at work, and it’s Ifell’s fault.

Biden has already done so much damage there’s no where to go but up. So is it really possible for him to lose this debate?
Palin may be considered “inexperienced” by all the loons in the MSM. But anyone not in the “tank” (no pun intended, Gwen.) for Obama understands who is truly inexperienced. Obama has simply mastered the art of lying on demand. We all know he doesn’t mean or understand a word he says.

Hi, I’m Rick Klein, another in-the-tank for Obama “journalist” who has to undermine legitimate concerns about having a moderator who is writing a pro-Obama book that will be released on Inauguration Day (and who rolled her eyes at Palin at the RNC).
If you will excuse me, I’m going to go tape some kids’ eyes open to brainwash them into singing “Yes we can can can, Yes we can can can” for our Dear Leader, Chairman Obama.

I am very disappointed in McCain.
He should have called foul and demanded another moderator. This debate is too important to let this go and he did.
Everything hinges on Palin tonight and to have a moderator in the tank for Obama is just plain stupid on McCains part. What is he thinking!!
I only hope that Palin performs like her convention speech and is not sabatoged by Ifill who is a black woman that stands to make a lot of $$ if Obama wins. Not only is the press in the tank for Obama but now even the moderator of a debate that could decide this election.

Ifill is unethical in this instance. She has a huge financial stake in the outcome of this election, and she failed to disclose this conflict of interest to the Presidential Commission and McCain campaign. Did she give the questions in advance to Senator Biden? Has she coached him? We do not know this information, but it would not be surprising in light of her potential financial windfall if democrats win the white house. Her cousin’s racist remarks about Governor Palin are disturbing, and she has made sexist comments about Governor Palin’s ability to raise a family and serve this country. The Commission could not have picked a more unqualified moderator for this debate.

“Would the Democrats tolerate Ann Coulter as moderator even if she promised to be fair?”
That has to be the most specious and ridiculous arguments I have ever heard. Whether or not she is voting for Obama, anyone who has watched her over the years knows that she’s fairly moderate, regardless, and actually a journalist, while Ann Coulter is rabidly, insultingly right-wing, and an entertainment personality. How is the Gwen Ifill controversy “wholly manufactured?” Did the GOP make her write a book showering praise on Obama, then conceal it when she put her name in consideration to moderate this debate, and then suddenly bring these facts into the light two days before the debate? Obviously not. And obviously this blogger is “in the tank” for Obama just like Ifill.

Add my belly laugh to the chorus of derision Rick Klein earned with his silly assertion that Ifil-gate is “wholly manufactured.” What a tool.

Rick Klien of ABC has to remove his head from where ever it is lodged deep into Obama’s rear, shake off whatever is stuck on his head once he dislodges
and then maybe he will grow a brain to see How Ifill is a liberal buffoon just like he himself (Klein) is…
Klein’s Moronic take on this Ifill thing clearly shows yet again why Liberalism is a Mental Disorder…LOL

Conservatives are so freaking stupid. There is a difference between journalism, which Ifill practices, and propagandistic hackery, which Sean Hannity engages in. If you can’t tell the difference I urge you to pick up a dictionary. It’s a book. You know what those are?

Osama for Obama!
A vote for Obama/Biden is a vote for a return to the bleak 1977-1981 and 1993-1995 years, the last time the Dummycrats controlled both the executive and legislative branches. If only we had Reagan and Gingrich to save us from this nightmare now!

Just another liberal racist, just like so many Obamabots. She Ifill has a vested interest in seeing this debate fails for the republicans. And you think she can be impartial? What are you smoking?!?!?
I agree with Rover, this is just another street corner dirty tactic to promote a man who will ‘bring a change you can beleive in’. Yep, everything that he ‘changes’ will hurt us so bad you will not be able to ‘believe’ he did it. Of course, if he does become president, he will make sure that the republicans get the blame, and the leftist news media will help him.
I am watching the news right now, and they are predicting that McCain is done and will not win. Let’s pray this is just wishful thinking on their part, and not fact. It is up to us to make the real change, and do not let these leftist (socialist) win.

The fact that you do not see a conflict of interest just goes to show how unreliable the mainstream media is. This is so obvious that virtually all moderates, all conservative, and some liberals see the inherent conflict and the appearance of impropriety. You no longer have any credibility as you have sold yourself out. What a shill.

Like I tell my GOP friends, does it matter who’s asking the questions as long as each debater answers i.e. what’s your foreign policy, your views on the bail out, offshore drilling? I don’t see an issue here. Palin and Biden just need to answer some friggin questions, like debate class in high school. Damn, what is wrong with you nay-sayers? This country is insane with a fear of each other ethinically and unfortunately always will be. Sad, we can cheer for athletes for NFL & MLB teams comprised of different ethnicities but when it comes to leading our nation…….

I agree with him on the Ifill being moderator. I know that sister is in the tank for Obama and should never be allowed to moderate since she stands to make big money off the deal.
This is just another example of how bias the media is against Sarah Palin. The media needs to be boycotted and they will be as soon as Obama the nightmare is sent back to Chicago with his sexism and Joe sent back to the Senate. Well go ahead media because the attack is coming. The Democrats are all going to be sorry they did what they did to Hillary and Sarah.
Most women are not members of NOW they do not like the sexism from the Obama campaign and they don’t like offensive stars like Spike Lee telling them to dry their eyes.

Gentlefolk
What is disturnbing about Gwen Ifill is that when she was vented to moderate she neglected to mention her book. Had she done so she would not have been selected. She is not a fool so she knew that. Apparently it was very important to her to be selcted. Can she be fair? Certainly — as the mainstream media defines fair. In fact that she was fair is already typeset ready for tomorrows papers. But the public will judge her on her behavior.

I told myself not to read these comments anymore but I can’t seem to stop myself. As always the liberals big argument for everything is to call names. They have no clear ideas other than the govt. should be their mother and father from cradle to grave. The DEMOCRATS got us into the financial mess we’re in right now. They sure as heck are not going to get us out of it. Obama does not have the experience to be the President. Joe Biden is so smart that he has to plagiarize from everyone to come up with something to say. If the people of this country are so ignorant that these two get elected then they will get what they deserve, unfortunately the rest of us will get it too.

Ifill has already written a propaganda piece on Obama’s family for a black magazine.
Ifill’s cousin is a college professor and has spoken out against Palin, saying she is “offensive to black women”.
Ifill has publicly answered questions about her cousin and refers to her as ‘brilliant’.
Ifill represented PBS at the conventions, and was GLOWING about Michelle Obama, but was not happy about Palin after her speech, saying she ‘belittled’ Obama.
and now the book, written by Ifill, which features Obama, and is to be released on Inauguration Day.

Key paragraph from the Associate Press…
The host of PBS’ “Washington Week” and senior correspondent on “The NewsHour” said she did not tell the Commission on Presidential Debates about the book. The commission had no immediate comment when contacted by The Associated Press. A spokeswoman for John McCain’s campaign did not immediately return phone and e-mail messages.

The entire election is cynical and if there were a 3rd party candidate who was reasonable and had a chance, I’d vote for that person. It’s interesting in an interview about her book and successful African-American political person, Ifill did not mention Rice or Thomas. She did mention Powell who is tepid and hardly concervative. I blame conservatives for allowing, election after election, moderators who are decidedly liberal. I always expect Republicans to roll over and play dead because they are too gutless to stand for principles and suffer the consequences. They rather lie down, not stand for principles and take the consequences anyway.

Lets assume that she is in the tank for Obama. The real thing that bothers me is the McCain/Palin lack of research, vetting, and information gathering. It has not been a secret about Ifills book. I agree it does pose some conflict of interest. But why has it taken the republican ticket so long to discover this? Just 2 days before the debate and now they cry foul. It was right in front of them the whole time. Now its to late to change anything. If they didn’t see it than thats a much bigger problem in and of it’s self than Ifills book. Imagine that it was a piece of information about an attack on America. Oh why didn’t someone tell us about that…

Rick,
Maybe the fact that studies that show 60-70% of Americans believe that jouralists are in the tank for Obama is somehow wholly manufactured too. Her book title after all is about “Break throughs” in the “Age of Obama.” Yeah, no vested interest in the outcome of this election there. The only thing wholly manufactured is the journalistic hubris and phony outrage of articles like this one. Here’s a new’s flash for you: Jouralists are to report facts, not arbitrate truth. There’s a reason why the majority of Americans do not trust the MSM and this is Exhibit A.

Tony Q, Lincoln had less experience than Obama and he was one of the greatest presidents our country has seen thus far.
The Ifill thing is a non-issue. The Republicans are crying foul, like the Democrats used to years ago (when they were in the Minority). It’s all politics and Ifill is actually a good journalist (it’s why she’s been on Meet the Press so much).

I have never understood all the hoopla over debates. I used to watch them until i figured out this one fact….the winner is always the person you supported going into the debate. I have never meet anyone who was honestly persuaded to vote for a candidate based upon there debate performance. I have never heard a pundant gave someone other than their candidate credit for “winning” a debate. Theyjust don’t matter.

Ok, so as a life long Democrat I am now SOOOOOOO tired of the under handed tactics we are using. I feel we cannot win with a fair election and we have to pull crap like this. We, thats right all of us Democrats, are at an all time low in our party with no way out. Do we have to do everythins so baltantly that a blind man can see it? Come on we can do better than this and win elections. WE GIVE THEM AWAY, wise up!

morons!
Gwens book has been common knowledge for months. Advertised on Amazon before the McCain campaign agreed to her debate moderation.
Ifill is recognized to be scrupulously unbiased in her reporting.
Will Sarah be able to answer the same questions Joe does in a satisfactory manner? Only time will tell, but I’d guess she’s gonna Rope-A-Dope. Let’s see!

I think everyone who watches PBS’s Gwen Ifill knows she is pro-Obama … but it should still make for a good debate!!
Posted by: Cassandra Washington | October 2, 2008, 6:50 pm 6:50 pm
Typical McCain stupidity. Leap before you look mentality. Him and his campaign idiots had plenty of time to vet Ifill before they agreed months ago that she would be an acceptable moderator. All they had to do was “google” ‘Gwen Ifill’ to read about her upcoming book.
This is a dam good reason to vote for Barack Obama. McCain doesn’t have any judgment left. He should have done his due diligence BEFORE he said, in writing, that Ifill was acceptable. Instead here he is the day of the debate crying foul. What an idiot. Who wants this brain dead, over-the-hill, LIAR, as prez? He’s such a fool he makes Bush look smart. The thought of his hand on “the button” is enough to scare brave men to death. We have enough on our hands to clean up the mess Bush made. After McCain/Palin there wouldn’t be anything left of our planet worth saving.
Why don’t you REDNECKS get an education and figure out why you let the Republicans scare the crap out of you every four years so they can stay in power and plunder whats left of our treasury?

Ifill is probably the most even-keeled journalist out there. She is not a liberal; at least not in her job. She is not comparable to Anne Coulter. Republicans are just trying to poison the well in preparation for Palin’s poor performance. This information about Ifill was available long before the selection and scheduling of the debates. Say what you will; it was the McCain camp that put itself in this position.

A fixed debate. What does anyone expect? But there is something that Dems always expect. That someone will be there to pay all the tax money they have already spent. Someday the Dems will be dividing up crumbs to try to please their dependents. That is when liberty will return to the world.

The issue is that Ifill has a financial interest in Obama winning. Her book is about Obama and blacks in general gaining power in politics. The title specifically points to the “Age of Obama”. His victory in November would substantially benefit her book, especially given it’s release date on innauguration day. Anyone, liberal or conservative, should be able to understand this valid argument. It’s a disgrace on her behalf as a journalist not disclosing her book, and the debate committee for not knowing this.

It looks as though Gwen Ifill doesn’t seem very shaken by the reaction of the conservative blogosphere’s response to her conflict of interest as reported in this AP story by David Bauder.
http://apnews.myway.com/article/20081001/D93HUHCO1.html
I find the last sentence to be quite telling:
“Do you think they made the same assumptions about Lou Cannon (who is white) when he wrote his book about Reagan?” said Ifill, who is black. Asked if there were racial motives at play, she said, “I don’t know what it is. I find it curious.”
From her interview with the St. Louis Post-Dispatch (http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/news/stories.nsf/politics/story/5A4729A61AE0FE68862574D5000CB2B7?OpenDocument), it appears that she is setting herself up to be totally insulated from criticism. Now we know. If she’s criticized, racism will be blamed on those who not only do not support Obama, but call her out as a biased hack working in line with the Obama campaign. This is completely appalling and cynical behavior by a so called professional journalist and the MSM as a whole. I don’t think the Obama tank can get any bigger to support all the MSM. It’s laughable at how the MSM has totally caved in to the Obama religion. They don’t even pretend to hide their bias anymore. It’s an all out assault between the DNC and MSM trying to outflank the Republicans and American people.
As a conservative, the only thing I care about is that she is now financially tied to an Obama presidential victory in November so her book sells in January. If Obama loses, she loses money. How can she NOT slant the debate more in Biden’s favor? I say keep her on and let Palin smoke her out as only Palin can! I think now that the cat’s out of the bag, it actually puts Palin at an advantage since she, Biden and Ifill all know that there will be a microscope on the whole show with everyone looking for the slightest whiff of bias on Ifill’s part. This will be good!

The whole thing is a set up. Media is in the tank with the politicians, corrupt business, corrupt finacial system, etc..
Haven’t we figured that out yet as a nation? Some of us have, while others keep drinking the kool-aid, taking it in the butt and loosing wealth and security.
The entire system, top to bottom, needs a correction, not just the financial system. That correction can only come through pweople banding together and saying enough is enough. What if no one voted this November?
Why haven’y we figured out how to put the hurt on Government?
Posted by: Scott | October 2, 2008, 6:55 pm 6:55 pm
Palin is completely incompetent and the GOP is just trying to pre-emptively find an excuse for the fool that she will make of herself. Ms. Ifill is a professional and will do her job. What’s the big deal that she is writing a book about black civil rights leaders and politicians? Don’t we white people write about white people all the time? Please people, the truth is the truth. Palin is the most incompetent VP candidate ever, even George Will, Kathleen Parker et al agree. I feel sorry that any journalist has to endure Palin’s ignorance.

All the morning shows today showed the tedious Tina Fey skit! Since when is a comedy skit legitimate news? The backlash has begun. Once conservatives get over their anger at McCain over the bailout bill, his poll numbers creep back up. Why can’t Obama get above 50% or a double digit lead? President McCain is in your future.

Imagine a commentator from the “wvil” Foxnews who , having committed to writing abook about the Age of McCain and his “stunning” accomplishments, set to make a mint if that candidate wins, then keeping quiet about it, being allowed to moderate? Democrats would pee thier pants! If this were a courtroom, it would be declared a mistrial. If you look at the Journalistic code of ethics, this is a clear violation. But, she’s pro-Obama, so, us”little people” in the middle of the country are expected to bow to Ifill’s condescension and just go away. At least be honest and don’t pretend to be impartial. Disgusting!ight?

To all of you uninformed McCain fans, Ifill is NOT the one who leaked that she was writing this book. It would have been in her interest to do so but I expect it was done by Palin apologists to lower expectations and prepare a “blame the media” defense. The fact is the book is not finished yet (even thought Amazon is advance- selling it) and there is only one chapter discussing Obama. And, by the way, that chapter hasn’t even been written yet! Ifill has no say-so on release dates either. Anyone who has seen her on PBS would certainly agree that she is dispassionate if not boring. I expect no less this evening.

It doesn’t t really matter. The Election is already over. Just take a look the Lou Dobbs report on what is going on in Ohio. http://www.breitbart.tv/?p=187013
Acorn is already shipping in the out of state illegal voters. Too bad the Republicans don’t have the balls to take the Ohio Supreme Court ruling to the Supreme Court. Can you imagine if an Ohio Republican Secretary of State had unilaterally dictated that there would be no same day registration/voting in Ohio. The Democrats would be at the Supreme Court right now. This country really has turned into a Communist Regime. A roll of toilet paper has more value than the Constitution and Bill of Rights sitting in the National Archives. They have been doing it since my first election (Kennedy/Nixon) and will be doing it far into the future. Archeologists from the 24th century will debate over what that virus called liberalism actually was and how it killed an entire civilization.

As an Obama supporter, Gwen should not be moderating this event. Not because she’s not an excellent journalist or would be unfair. It just give the McCain camp another reason to complain. With millions of dollars being spent by each campaign, does anyone think the McCain team didn’t know about this books months ago? You are extremely ignorant if you think they didn’t. OK liberal idiots. Claiming that Ifil is a journalist while Hannity, Coulter, and Limbaugh are not proves exactly what? Ifil is just as biased, she just pretends otherwise, ie she lies to the public. Yes, she and the other MSM liberals lie and claim to be objective journalists. Coulter, Hannity, and Limbaugh admit the truth, they are conservatives. Why then are the liars qualified to moderate debates? No democrat would agree to debate with Limbaugh as host, so why should a republican agree to debate with a lying leftist as a host? Two moderators, one picked by each side. That’s the only fair way.

How fair do you people think ABC is in its reporting? Wise up people. ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC and CNN are all in the tank for Obama. Just read their online sites. There is no such thing as journalism in this country anymore, which explains why most of the network news shows and most newspapers are bleeding viewers/readers and money. As an old journalist it is something to behold.
Posted by: Cheyenne | October 2, 2008, 7:06 pm 7:06 pm
At this point in time Ifill’s book has not yet been released to either the public or critics. As far as I understand, the book focuses on black political leaders of our time, not just Obama. It is presumptuous to say the Ifill will be unfair at this point in time. Both party leaders agreed to the debate terms and Ifill’s book was first introduced before the moderators had been picked. With that said, the proof is in the pudding, whether she shows any bias and endangers her career in journalism or whether she conducts herself professionally tonight will be up to us, the voters to decide after tonight’s debate. Arguing that Palin has been set up by the media is something I think only extremely ignorant people think, as many republican (just as democratic) commentators, stretegists, and advisors have pointed out that she’s not ready to hold one of the most important political offices in the nation and in the world, for that matter.

Yes the media (4th arm of the government) – has everyone saying that NBC/ABC/PBS/CBS are in bed with the democrats. But wait – the republicans are upset because they only have one channel (FAUX NEWs)!
The election hasn’t happened yet – while Obama may get the most votes (electoral as well) he may not win – white people are known for changing the rules while the contest is going on – just ask the American Indians!

Gwen in this case is incompetent,a competent person would see the possibility no probability of conflict of interest real or imagined. Not recusing herself is nothing less than incompetence and or an attempt to steer the election. Sorry that is the only choices.

I am really sad at what the DNC has become. I was a democrat before Obama hijacked the party and forced all the level headed dems to the back of the party. They treat us like an Old shoe, but demand that we stay loyal to the “New ONC (Obama National Committee)Party”. We have to wave the Obama banner or be called racist. I say NO MORE. Until the democrats can nominate someone who doesn’t ride rough shot over middle class dems I’ll be voting McCain-Palin.

Only you could turn an obvious trap for Palin into a criticism of the Republicans. You, sir, are one sorry bastard of a human being. Liberals have shown what low lizard scum they are in this election year. At least the masks finally have come off.

Figure it out people. This book was announced in June and the McCain camp agreed to her being the moderator. Either the McCain camp is incompetent or they knew exactly what they were doing in order to lower expectations for their candidate.
BTW, Comparing Ifill to Coulter might be one of the most absurd things I have ever read. Congrats!

Posted by: Jeff | October 2, 2008, 7:09 pm 7:09 pm
Ifill knew she wouldn’t be the moderator had she been truthful, but then when has the media branch of the Democratic Party been truthful?
Where are the scores of reporters searching Obama’s associations with the terrorist Ayers? Where are the reporters scouring Obama’s association and land deals with the convicted felon Rezko?
Where are the reporters asking about Obama & Biden voting against labelling Hezbollah a terrorist organization? Where are the scores of reporters talking about Obama’s comments regarding “57 States,” and “My Muslim Faith?”
Didn’t Dan Quayle get excoriated for his “potatoe” error, and aren’t the ramifications behind Obama’s two “misstatement” significantly more serious? Where are the in-depth reports?
Oh yeah, the media is taking its marching orders from the DNC.
Maybe that’s why Associated Press staffers in the Miami Bureau have Obama’s photo hanging, but not John McCain’s…this is true, I have witnessed it.

What’s interesting is last week McCain wanted to pospone the debate and switch it with tonights debate and push Palin/Binden debate down the line. What are you Repugs afraid of? If she was a great debater, what difference does it make who is asking the questions. Unless, you get flashbacks of the Katie Couric interviews and wake up screaming.

The issue with Liberals is they never admit mistakes. They are arrogant and too proud. The Bible refers to individuals such as this like Pharoe. When Pharoe was up against God [and Moses] He hardended his heart. Eventually God won but Pharoe had to lose everything to get there.
When they can’t get a job and NY lies in waste from a Terroist attack…then…maybe then….they just might sell the US to the highest bidder. China can then put us all in Chains as they’ve done the brothers in the Sudan!

My prayers will be with Sarah Palin tonight. She has a tough road to hoe. She is going up against the Liberal Dems, the meanest, most crooked people in the U.S. They will stop at nothing to win this election. they will lie, cheat, steal votes and attack anyone they deem to be in their way. Now they are saying the election is over and Obama won. Do Not let them get into your head and keep you from not getting out and voting, this is what they want. Get out and vote for the Conservatives, unless you want to live in a socialist country. My Father and his brothers did not fight in the war for this. Stay Free Vote McCain/Palin

She will mention all the right wing talking points over and over and over again. But when
the dust settles you will still have a woman from Alaska that doesn’t read the paper and believes that Dinasours and humans lived on earth at the same time. Orrin Hatch needs to just shut up and go sit in the tabernacle and listen to Jerry and the MoTabs and stay out of it. It’s not like the GOP has never planted faux reporters in our midst and broadcast faux news releases in order to propagandize their positions. If she’s any good at anything, she will be able to keep her personal support out of the picture. A good moderator will give and take equally regardless of personal conviction.

Cruising these comments reveals a disturbing truth. The Obama worshipers will endorse anything, no matter how unfair or illegal, to see their Messiah prevail. Soon after his inauguration look for massive growing of his “Truth Squads” and permanent silencing of dissent, criticism, or questioning. America will turn the corner, and become a Marxist state enforced by Stalinist methodology. This is the “Change We can Believe In” indeed.

Now why would anyone complain about the Media and Democrats cheating? Why that relationship is as honest the sun shines. After Obama is in the White House…
1. Putin takes over Eastern Europe.
2. The Economy will be destroyed because the dollar will be worthless.
3. Gas will be $6.00 a gallon when available.
4. Israel will be nuked by Iran.
5. The crime rate in the US will go off the charts like is now is in Chicago.
6. Mexican Immigration will rise because of the economic failure coming in Mexico.
7. Churches will be invaded by the government agents and freedom of speech will not be tolerated SEE Missouri.
8. Water will be difficult to afford – droughts will occur in the Western States.
9. Marshall law will be installed in areas where gasoline is not readily available.
10. Obama will have multiple attempts on his life and eventually Biden becomes president.
11. Other than that WHY WOULD ANYONE COMPLAIN ABOUT DEMOCRATS, there just great people to have around.

With all the known lies and attacks upon Palin by the media, the liberals could not be more happy. But, be you liberal or conservative, who can ever really trust the media again?
There is a cycle that often occurs in the last couple weeks of an national election cycle. The media, knowing they have went beyond the pale as to favoritism, get doubts about what they have done, and decide they had better try to be a bit more balanced as to coverage. AKA the adage of, who the media first builds up, only to destroy in the end, kicks in, and it is not a myth, it is the very nature of the attention driven media beast.
So, if you are democrat and pro Obama, just remember, whet the media has done to Palin, they can do to Obama or any other democrat. And a shoe on the other foot, can be very uncomfortable indeed.
Posted by: TANSTAAFL: | October 2, 2008, 7:20 pm 7:20 pm
So ABC thinks the Ifill thing is “wholly manufactured”? Well then, ABC and all of the others who thinks the same way should have no problem if Ann Coulter moderates the next presidential debate. Right? Of course they believe that Ann will be as “objective” as Ifill. After all, Coulter is a professional journalist, attorney, et al.
Let me know your feed-back on that one, O.K.?
Posted by: Donald Duck | October 2, 2008, 7:20 pm 7:20 pm
Ifill is a disgrace and should step down as debater moderator. Republicans and conservatives, we’ve got to rally together and vote Senator McCain and Governor Palin into the Whitehouse. This will truly drive a stake in the heart of this bloodsucking, leftwing media.
Posted by: dsgnrcj | October 2, 2008, 7:20 pm 7:20 pm
I have to agree with the sentiments expressed by others here that there is a conflict of interest and Ifill should remove herself as moderator, manufactured or not.
This AbceNews blog is another fine example of “journalism” in America. At least people like Rush Limbaugh and Al Franken don’t bill themselves as unbiased journalists, you know what you are getting with them.

White people are afraid – afraid that a black man may win and be president. Oh wo is me – the south has fallen so far – hell white people have fallen so far!
Racism is alive and well in this country – on the surface it is okay – but beneath that it is not.
A black journalist is moderating the debate between a white guy (with experience according the Palin) and a white woman (with no freaking sense what-so-ever) and she is slanted towards Obama (because she is writing a book about black leaders and one chapter on Obama – which this was knowledge on her website back in June. Boo-who I need to distract everyone from the real issue – McCain picked a moron who uses private email for state business – (she is hiding something or else she would doing what she is supposed to!)and he can’t believe that his gamble backfired on him (he isn’t getting all of the HRC supporters he thought he would!)

But they’re loving this, anything to help their boy. Yeah, I said it, their boy.

Palin has choked in every interview, regardless of the interviewees political leanings. Regrettably, Ifill will serve as an excuse for Palin’s ineptitude, and will give those refusing to see the truth about Palin more fodder. The level of polarization in this country is scary, it blinds people from making good decisions and handicaps their ability to think for themselves. We could have the most intelligent and qualified candidate ever in the history of the world, still the opposing parties will attempt to destroy them because they know we the people cant think for ourselves and will blindly follow anyone with with a good tongue and twinkle in their eye, wether over the radio or on TV. We dont deserve to be leaders of the free world anymore, because we can’t even lead our own minds to what’s best for us.

You two racist folks need to get your robes out – you know the ones with the pointy hats!
You are examples of why this country can’t move forward – Bush and McCain votes for less deregualtion and this has caused the problems that we face today – not Obama!
Maybe the reason that the media is behind Obama is because he will break the cycle of retards in Washington and actually change something – atr least he can’t screw it up any worse than the morons already have!

In any profession when someone is accused of being corrupt you can always find the guilty ones by following the money.
In this case the money will end up in Ifill’s account; actually a greater amount if Obama wins. No doubt we have a conflict of interest here. If this were sports she would out immediately no if, ands, or buts!!!!

I’m so very tired of John McCain and Sarah Palin whining. They yell gotcha journalism, which is another way of saying, it was reported that they screwed up. Isn’t accepting responsibility part of a President’s job responsibilities?
If John McCain feels that he is being victimized by Gwen Ifell because she is writing a book about African-Americans as political leaders, then sprout a spine and ask that she not serve as moderator. No, he doesn’t do that, he whines that people are unfair.
Is this the way he is going to govern?

This is a Q&A session, an infomercial, not a debate. In a debate, speakers pick a topic and argue it out. That will not happen here. Each candidate will trot out their well-rehearsed responses to expected questions. Any bias in questions will be noticable by audiences. It’s just a show, folks.

This is funny. I’m a registered Democrat and I vote for Republicans all the time and even voted for Bush first term but there is something very disturbing about some so called conservatives. You guys couldn’t vote for Jesus if he was a democrat and that’s disturbing. You are in such a “READ A STEP AND GET A BANANA” mindset that your vision is blinded. Do you think this lady will unfairly attack Palin with millions of viewers watching? If anything, she’s going to go after Biden now. The bottom line is regardless of how Palin does, republicans are going to say she did great and democrats will say she did awful.
Ladies and gentlemen I live in the most conservative city in the America (Colorado Springs, CO) with the right reverend James Dobson and Focus on the Family one block from my home and let me tell you something.
THIS IS OVER AND OBAMA WILL WIN BY A LANDSLIDE UNLESS WE FIND OUT HE ACTULLY WAS DATING REVEREND WRIGHT AND HE ALSO PLANNED 911. IT ‘S OVER GENTS. “ TURN OUT THE LIGHTS THE PARTY’S OVER, ALL GOOD THINGS MUST COME TO AN END”.

I lived thru the Carter years, and am sad to say I voted for the malcontent. If Obama wins this thing, he will make Carter look like Ronald Regan. Didn’t we learn anything by having one Hussein in leadership of a County, now we want one here? This lady should have the civility to step down as moderator. But that word no longer lives in the world of my former party.

I think Ifill must be a good woman. I don’t believe in automatically judging someone this way; in fact, I welcome her perspective as a black American woman. You know, you got to walk in someone’s shoes…
Conversely, I see that Palin is being judged just because she comes from a different life experience. All this judging is what will bring America down, along with sheer GREED.
Posted by: tngirl | October 2, 2008, 7:34 pm 7:34 pm
It seems that whenever I follow a link from Drudge that link will have more than its fair share of witheringly racialist diatribe from willfully ignorant kneejerk reactionaries.
Ifill is black and a female. It is a fragrantly prejudicial to suggest that just because she is black her book she is going to write anything remotely sycophantic about Barak Obama. In fact, I have been watching her for years and get the notion that she is not particularly impressed with Senator Obama just as she was underwhelmed with Senator Edwards. She seemed to gravitate towards substance over flash and if this is true, then she may just prove to be less than enthusiastic about Palin who has so far, proven to be a beautiful, charismatic, empty suit.
But really, this is not about the moderator but rather the debaters themselves. It is also incredible that a few of you are suggesting that Ifill would present questions to Biden in advance. In fact, both candidates are given the questions in advance. It is racist of you to assert that the only reason Ifill has a job is affirmative action. It is racist to assume that just because she is black she would cheat to help Biden’s standing. He has nothing to lose. No one voting for the Obama/Biden ticket are going to jump ship over any mistakes that senior statesmen might make this evening. This debate is intended to educate those of us on the fence who to vote for. I would have voted for Ron Paul but he is out. So who do I vote for? The more racist crap I read on these blogs and blind adulation of Palin, the less I am inclined to support that ticket simply because we already have dimwit president with blind loyalists leading us into ruin. What is our country coming to that people would post such sickening tripe on a forum where kids can read it?

Typical Republican postings today are not original – just repeated lines from their favorite Radio Talk-Show hosts. You know I remeber when Republicans could actually think for themselves & make a great argument for or against a point of view – sadly those people are now silent because they know they were sold a bunch of Bull from their Party & they know that McCain is really a Democrat & Palin is a Joke.
Posted by: Ken | October 2, 2008, 7:34 pm 7:34 pm
If this shoe was on the other foot the left would be screaming bloody murder over conflicts of interest, and rightfully so. When it favors them, they claim not to, or can’t, even see the problem.
The media in this election cycle has proved so incredibly biased my frayed trust in the big three, and especially MSN, is now completely gone.
You have their reporters admitting to fawning over Obama. You have them piling on Hillary using tactics they previously reserved for R’s. Now candidates not liked by the press have to not only run against their opponents, but against a biased and actively opposition press. It’s really sad. Their partisanship is destroying what is left of journalisms reputation. No longer will they do hard investigation of their favored candidates.
The ties to Ayers close friendship with Obama have been deep sixed.
We never see any of his radical associates in ACORN mentioned. They’ll prowl an entire state dumpster diving for stuff on Palin but somehow can’t manage to go to that depth on someone groomed in the machine politics of Chicago.
I watched a local report about this on journalism school, and the interviews given by students on why they went to school were chilling. No longer are they going to report and dig, the answers were all ‘to change the world’ and ‘to support a progressive society’…every student but one had an activists answer, not an unbiased journalists one.
They’re stupidly poisoning their own well with this stuff. The less they are trusted the more of us go elsewhere.

She shouldn’t be moderating as it has the appearance of bias, even if she is a very experienced, competant journalist who will probably do a good job tonight. Of course the republicans are making a big deal out of this to try and get her to overcompensate and show bias in favor of Palin. They have effectively been doing this for years with claims about the liberal media. The media goes easy on Republicans for fear they appear pro-liberal in their coverage. Its why Bush went into Iraq unchecked and why the media was willing to go along with depicting Bush as more patirotic than John Kerry (a war hero).
Tonight probably won’t have any bias, but now Republicans can get all the mileage they can out of claiming liberal bias.
Maybe McCain should try winning on the issues.

Who is Rick Klein?
When I read about Ifill’s book on Drudge I knew that it is yet another trap set up for Palin. Those that accuse her of whining, obviously don’t understand the meaning of the word. But that is common for the Dems as they march in lockstep and shout the talking points they pick up on the left wing blogs and the MSM. I have never been impressed with Ifill and she calls herself a professional journalist? LOL.
Have you noticed how the Dems never scream ‘voter fraud’ when they win? Should they win it will be due to massive voter fraud; after all ACORN is known for registering the dead, the illegals, prisoners, most of them twice or more with different names. Ah the friends of Obama. Why is nobody investigating that? Should they lose they will scream ‘racism’. I am prepared for the MSM to threaten the voters with riots and mayhem if Obama loses the election.

How much impact do you people think a moderator has on a debate anyway? Everything that transpires during tonight’s debate will be in full public view. If there is a bias, everyone will know it, and can judge the results accordingly. Notice that the Republicans made a lot of noise, but never tried to have her removed. Anyone who has been following Republican strategy re: Palin knows that leaving Ifill in as a potential excuse for a bad Palin performance is more valuable than having a clearly impartial moderator and no excuse. All I can say to those who think the presidential election is a popularity contest to elect the coolest person ever and NOT a serious issue: BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU VOTE FOR!!!!
Socialism, so·cial·ism, noun:
1. any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods
2. a system of society or group living in which there is no private property b: a system or condition of society in which the means of production are owned and controlled by the state
3. a stage of society in Marxist theory transitional between capitalism and communism and distinguished by unequal distribution of goods and pay according to work done
State socialism, noun:
an economic system with limited socialist characteristics that is effected by gradual state action and typically includes public ownership of major industries and remedial measures to benefit the working class
Listed above is the government we will be left with if Obama, the Pelosi Squad, Hollywood elite, Moveon.org, the Daily Kos, and the mainstream media (CNN, ABC, CBS, MNSBC, NBC, NY TIMES, WASH POST, LA TIME, ETC) get their way in November. Mark my words!!!

For those who say the Republicans approved of Ifill, that is incorrect. They agreed on the format and the Commission on Presidential Debates chose the moderators.
This will be the last time the Commission on Presidential Debates operate. They stacked the commentators in ’04 and ’08. Luckily Dan Rather, CBS and the MSM were caught in their own lie and the people ignored most of the later news. This year the MSM made sure there was no chance of a fair election.

Ifill should have revealed her conflict of interest from the beginning and excused herself. There is no excuse for her position and her desire to maximize her book sales, which will surely benefit from her involvement in the debates. This ref,(Ifill) is not only biased, she has money on the game in the form of increased royalties if Obama wins. If he loses it’s Dewey defeats Truman. It’s shameful, and if liberals felt shame it might be changed, but we all know it won’t. A sad chapter in American politics.

I had lunch with someone today who is actually from Canada. He has bought into the America..who does she think she is…IMPERIALISM crap. The mentality is such that it doesn’t matter if things are biased, unfair, stacked, whatever. They hate America so much..they’ll knock her down at any cost.
ABC is stupid. They are enjoying their freedom to be biased for NOW. Wait, until they get underneath Obama control.

Hey, Rick. Its sounds like your in the Tank for “O” also. If you phucking liberal journalists found out she was writing a book on McCain, you would have violent demonstrators outside throwing fecus & urine on the GOP crowd time syncronized with the New York Times running headlines discrediting her with “Moderator believes that Dinousors & man walked earth togethar”

Congress should not have gone home. Or did they ‘Truely Know’ their Scare Tactics, would work?

Nuclear Power for Mangos? No. Sounds like something more, in that.
We could have sent Hydro, Solar, or Wind power plans to help a foreign country.

If Obama lost the Ifill book would be in the bargain bin in the 99 cent store…..
Of course she is biased. She is biased for both philosophical and economic reasons.
As for Biden, I heard he said that the song “Coal Miners Daughter ” was written about him. That he grew up in the coal mines and therefore deserves your vote. How can you tell Biden is telling a tall tale? His lips are moving. He is what is called “truth challenged”! Probably why he and Obama are both lawyers!
Biden plagiarized his way through law school (and politics).

Of course, IF being biased mattered, Ifill would step down because the debate is NEVER supposed to be about the moderator, but now she has great press for her book and it has become a debate centered on HER. I’ve never seen anything like this in debate history. But, in this race, is anything a surprise?

ABC/NBC/CBS/CNN/MSNBC/PBS exist only because most Americans are too ignorant to learn the truth.

Wholly manufactured…..you liberals know no bounds of hypocrisy. Journalism is dead in America. Why don’t you folks just go ahead and take off your ABC logos and wear blue shirts with big O’s on them?

Amazing that the only one that reformed their government, stuck it to the oil companys, and broke the good ol boy system is the “idiot” according to the media. I guess accomplishments aren’t important to the lower 48. We like our pols incompetent and corrupt!!!
Meanwhile the Senators have oversaw the bankrupcy of our federal government and destruction of the American economy.
Last time I checked Alaska’s got a surplus and lower taxes.
McCain, Obama, and Biden eeeehhhhh….not so much on the balanced budget and likely to raise taxes. Boy I sure hope government takes over more of the health care in this country!!!!! I bet it will be as awesome as government run banking!!!!

Let’s see if Ifill can check her distaste for Palin at the door. If she can’t, Ifill has sullied the debate process and the debates should be scrapped. If she’s as smarmy and condescending as Katie “the Communist” Couric, then Palin will be beaten up by the liberal media no matter how adequate the substance of her answers.
Posted by: Anna D | October 2, 2008, 7:55 pm 7:55 pm
This has a stench of clear media bias and also wrapped like a stinking fish in a conflict of interest. Ifill has much to financially gain from an Obama victory because of her new book.THIS CAMPAIGN IS SINKING IN THE SWAMP OF THE BIASED MEDIA. POOR US.

If this were a conservative journalist even without having written any book about McCain or Palin…lets say William F. Buckley… what would the Dims be saying? We all know they would be screaming bloody murder.
You can say whatever you want about how fair Gwen is on her show, but the fact that she has a vested interest should be enough to disqualify her…that is if she had any integrity…but she’s a liberal, they don’t know the meaning of INTEGRITY.

Nothing to worry about here. If Barry loses, Gwen will sell about 4 copies of her Barry Romance Novel. If Barry wins, she will make over $300,000 in PROFIT. Knowing the strong ethics and moral Liberal Democracts have concerning money (see Franklin Raines, Jaime Gorelick, Barney Frank, TAX CHEAT CHARLIE RANGEL, etc…)why should a Republican worry about getting a FAIR and BALANCED shake by a Liberal PUPPET?

WTF does ABC mean that this is a “wholly manufactured” issue?
Posted by: Brad | October 2, 2008, 7:57 pm 7:57 pm
I do not know if it is sad or just plain funny…
the left has to go way out of their way to prop up their candidate, lie and steal votes for him, set up events like this with Ifill, threaten those that tell the truth about his friends and dealings.
They must not believe in their candidate very much, I thought he was the Messiah.
obvioulsy Obama cannot win on his own, they have to go tho such great lengths to make sure he wins.
I see it from the other side, obviously
the left does not have much confidence in their own cadidate

What frightens me is not the controversy over Ifill’s perceived impartiality, it’s the conspiracy nuts claiming that she is somehow going to feed questions to Biden to give him an edge. Has any of you seen Palin in front of the cameras lately? Are you kidding me? This is someone you will believe is anywhere close to being President…the bar is set pretty low these days.

Here we are American citizens, educated all over the world with many different perspectives and obviously varying comprehension levels of the topic at hand- not to mention grammar and spelling aptitude – regardless, I am a Ron Paul supporter. The more banal and mean-spirited – the more racist you knee jerk reactionaries expose yourselves to be, the less inclined I am to see things your way. Our country is great because of its diversity. Hey Everyone, I’ve got an idea: Let’s discuss this tomorrow, after the debate. Okay?
If Palin holds her own, then we’ll either listen to Democrats tear Palin down, or accuse her of cheating, or both.
If Biden makes a gaffe, we’ll only hear about it on Fox News. The Dems and MSM will of course say “Oh that Joe, you know him. Palin won’t be able to get a word in edgewise because Biden will be telling us all about how, while being a coal miner his helocopter was forced down by a Taliban drunk driver who had an Indian accent. This draft dodger will then remind us that he is a leader like Roosevelt who got on TV in 1933 and inspired the nation during hard times.
And at the end, Palin should ask Joe, “Can I quote you on that?”

How weak of a position is it to take to take such offense to a moderator at a debate possibly siding with one candidate over another?!
Republicans are crying like babies over this. Do you understand that this job, VP, is a tough one if the president dies. If they’re whining about this now, how is the McCain camp going to handle the REAL tough questions and decisions if they were to get in office?
Come on, it just makes you look weak, and insecure in your position to complain about something like this. Don’t we all sway one way or another? Isn’t this America?

What’s REALLY disturbing is Rick (wholly manufactured) Klein, him supposedly a “journalist”, is DEFENDING Ifill. It’s hard for me to believe that so many like him have lost their soul.
There used to be a time in America when journalists actually had ethics. I guess those days are over.
The truth is Ifill should have revealed her conflict. She clearly has a financial stake in Obama winning, whether the book is about him or not. If Rick Klein & Ifill cannot see that, how can we continue to call them journalists? Or trust in our media? The seem more like political hacks to me.

The Ifill issue is hardly manufactured. Clearly a book being released after the election and with the name of one of the candidates on the title can be expected to sell better, especially over the long term if that candidate wins. That’s a pretty cut and dry conflict of interest.
And there have been many cases where Ifill’s election coverage has been considered short of evenhanded. Her reaction to Palin’s convention speech is but one example.
“In the tank” is the term we have for this.
Posted by: Ryan | October 2, 2008, 8:07 pm 8:07 pm

Considering that the media starry eyed bias is so Obama that it would take a nuke to pry them out of his rear is so great, a biased moderator (look that word up you good Progressives) is the least of their worries. OH BTW both McCain and Obama voted for that wall street welfare bailout bill, so IMHO whoever thinks theres a difference between any of them is an obvious fool.

Here are more signs Sarah Palin could face an uphill battle with PBS host Gwen Ifill. Professor Sherrilyn Ifill of the University of Maryland Law School, who Gwen Ifill has lauded as “my brilliant baby cousin,” has written that black women are not buying Sarah Palin’s “false claims to feminism” and is portrayed as too perfect: “when women who are privileged present as though they have it all together, it’s offensive to black women.”

I don’t think anyone doubts the moderator is biased, I think that is the reason the democrats all pulled out of the Fox News deal.
What is disturbing to both sides should be the fact that once again there is dishonesty and deceitfulness on the part of the media. With Fox the democrats knew they would be asked the hard questions that they cannot answer truthfully – so they ran and hid.
With Ifill the left gets everything it pays for. I should think though with all the outrage currently directed at the dishonest and deceitful politicians taking care of their Wall Street masters on our dime, the left would be extra careful in case the media exposed them.
oh – that sure sounded dumb . . . never mind.

The silliest thing about this article is the extreme leftist tone (“wholly manufactured”). Really? If the debate were to be on Fox News and the Dumbocrats had a problem (which they did earlier, remember?), would ABC News be saying that it was “wholly manufactured”?

It’s “Wholly manufactured” BECAUSE JOHN MCCAIN APPROVED of Ifil in writing, after her book was public knowledge. If your candidate is TOO STUPID to raise concerns at the appropriate time, then he’s TOO STUPID to run the country.

I’m not sure what’s more ridiculous – the comments comparing Gwen Ifill, an actual journalist with a well-deserved reputation for impartiality, with right-wing hacks like Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh; or the fact that both campaigns agreed to the terms of the debates (including who the moderators would be) weeks ago, AFTER Ifill’s book was announced, and you guys are acting like this was sprung on the McCain campaign at the last minute. If they had a problem with Ifill, they shouldn’t have agreed to allow her to moderate the debate in the first place. And Ifill certainly hasn’t shown any more bias than Tom Brokaw, NBC’s self-appointed liaison to the McCain campaign, who has a demonstrated history of being in the tank for the Republicans.
Stop whining and crying about the moderator. When Failin’ Palin loses the debate tonight, it will be because she has no grasp whatsoever of the issues and because she’s not fit to be vice-president.

I know there used to be fine schools of journalism. Question: are there any ethics involved with being a journalist I don’t see much difference between MSM and the National Enquirer. Actually, I think the NE is probaly more fair. Maybe it would be a good time for America to hear exactly what the ethics or lack of them are in the news media
Posted by: Rhonda | October 2, 2008, 8:25 pm 8:25 pm
When will you American people learn that blacks like Gwen Ifil or Congo Lisa Rice or “Colon” Powell cannot be trusted to be ethical? They will lie in service to their race and do whatever it takes to elect one of their own kind. Look at how they live. They kill each other every day like flies, then blame all other races for their problems for their problems. They are too stupid to realize they are too stupid.
They are also too stupid to realize Barack is not one of them, he is a half-caste of foreign origin. In my country, he would be one of the untouchables. Yet here, you fools all want to kiss his tan ass.
He’ll show you what he thinks of middle class white Americans when he turns the Whitehouse into a barbecue pit after hours joint with Oprrrrrraaaaaah as his hostess and appoints all his terrorist friends to his cabinet.

How could Ifill fathom that she can be unbiased when Ifill has an article appearing in Essence black women’s magazine on Obama and his family this month, and is in the process of writing a book, which includes a focus on Obama. If Ifills was upfront about these political activities, there is no way that the GOP would have approved her as a moderator. After seeing her make faces when she spoke about Palin after the GOP convention, it’s obvious where her loyalties lie. She has proven herself unethical for not being upfront about her political slant. For Ifils to imply that any protests to her moderating is somehow racially-based is blatantly a stupid politically motivated ploy on her part. Perhaps on the next debate, Obama would agree to Ann Coulter or Rush Limbaugh as the moderator – sure that would be entirely fair and balanced- do you think?!?! One more reason to vote GOP – the GOP supporters seem smarter and at least more ethical than the average DNC supporter.

If you want what she has then WORK for it, marry the father of your children and have your priorities straight. Obviously black women are offended by women who work and work hard, offended by whoites, offended by a woman who knows who she is and what she wants out of life, offended by a woman who had her priorities straight and fell in love, got married, THEN had children. offended? Voting for Obama is an act of treason. If you help elect him you will be condemning your family and grandkids to a much diminished and less free nation.
Obama represents the culmination of a five decade effort to install a stealth radical in the White House. Combine that with a far-left congress controlled by the most extreme elements of the Democratic party which has moved drastically to the left itself and the result will be disastrous.
You will have aided in the downfall of the greatest nation on earth if you vote for Obama.

NOW LET’S SPEAK SOME REAL TRUTH. BOTH CAMPS SIGNED, SEALED, AND DELIVERED UP GWEN IFILL AS MODERATOR OF THE VP DEBATE ON JULY 23,2008. NEXT,EXERPTS OF IFILLS BOOK WAS ALREADY BEING DISCUSSED IN THE CONSERVATIVE WASHINGTON POST NEWSPAPER AS EARLY AS JUNE, 2008. NOW EXPLAIN (ALL YOU INFORMED LOSER McCAIN SUPPORTERS)HOW IS IT THAT THE “HIGHLY INFORMED McCAIN CAMPAIGN STAFF DID NOT KNOW OF THIS? BETTER YET,WHY DIDN’T THEY KNOW? ALSO,ARE YOU ALL SO UNETHICAL IN YOUR OWN LIVES THAT YOU’LL CONTINUE TO NOT ACKNOWLEDGE(FOR THE MERE FACT AT TRYING TO BE DECENT/ INTELLIGENT AMERICANS) THAT THIS WHOLE ISSUE OF IFILL HAVING A BOOK IS REALLY AN EXCUSE TO COVER UP THE MAIN FACT THAT YOU ALL ARE GRABBING FOR ANYTHING TO DEFLECT FROM THE TOTAL INCOMPETENCY OF McCAINS WHOLE STRATEGY AGAINST OBAMA.
FOR THIS AMERICAN I’M GOING TO AT LEAST BE HONEST/TRUTHFUL TO MYSELF!NO AMOUNT OF LYING TO MYSELF IS WORTH McCAIN/PALINS PACIFICATION. NONE!!!!!

Klein is representative of the entire ABCNews staff — New York leftists who hate the rest of the country. We are on the verge of a cultural revolution in the country and the Mainstream Media is going to be the first to go — and not violently. We will sufficate them in bankruptcy court. Turn off your TVs folks and blow-off this website! The only reason I’m here now is the Drudge Report lead on Hatch’s brief comment. Even the Columbia School of Journalism admits Ifill has a glaring conflict of interest but all ABC News can do is mock us for it.

Given the rate of return on top ten selling books in the NY Times, Gwenn Ifil already has an investment in this charade….
If Obama wins, she stands to gain more and more money, hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars.
Where she an NFL ref, she would be kicked out of the league and prosecuted for betting on games she refereed. Where she a judge, she would have to recuse herself or risk blowing the case or might even be required to give up her license.
Never mind, it’s just a debate that may hold the fate of our nation, yet Gwenn Ifil thinks of it as a career opportunity and a referendum on her objectiveness.
I would be very, very surprised if it isn’t a set-up and Klien, the puke, is a typical neo-marxist.

Here are more signs Sarah Palin could face an uphill battle with PBS host Gwen Ifill. Professor Sherrilyn Ifill of the University of Maryland Law School, who Gwen Ifill has lauded as “my brilliant baby cousin,” has written that black women are not buying Sarah Palin’s “false claims to feminism” and is portrayed as too perfect: “when women who are privileged present as though they have it all together, it’s offensive to black women.”

someone posted: Didn’t both campaigns agree on all of the debate terms? It was no secret that Ifill wrote this book and that the debate would be on PBS. Stop the whining and perform.
Actually, the fact that she was writing a book was not disclosed to the GOP team negotiating the terms. The debate organizers SAY they didn’t know either. If they didn’t then AWFUL should have been dq’d for failure to disclose this material fact. Had the repub’s known this fact and agreed to it, then I would agree, “shut up and debate”, but this wreaks!

The Dems are running scared from Gov. Palin.
They put out all kinds of stuff – because they know she connects with the average American. Heaven knows the Dems don’t connect with anyone but the rich and famous.
You go, Gov. Palin! You have more people in your corner than the mainstream media reports.
We all know what’s going on. The Dems can shuttle the homeless people to the polls in Ohio – go for it. Only the Dems would stoop that low.
I think the newscasters (you can’t call them journalists – because their more like talk-show hosts)are losing the battle.
The word is getting it out and it pisses off the ill-informed followers of Barry.
Barry – I vote present. Wow – that’s the man for us. NOT.

Greg, that’s the problem with Palin, she can’t be smart and stay on the issues because she doesn’t know enough about the issues. She does everything but answer the questions or stick to the issue.

So, now we have to listen to a Black, liberal, woman, who has written a pro-Obama book(Ifill), ask questions at tonight’s 2008 Vice-Presidential Debate!!!
Posted by: Walter | October 2, 2008, 8:49 pm 8:49 pm
None of us have seen the the book, could be a critique of Obama. It’s pretty hard for a moderator to screw up a debate. People will listen to Palin and Biden, we aren’t stupid, except for those who think moderator does anything other than referee the debate. That said she probably shouldn’t be moderating the debate. Finally how would you all feel if everyone said your political affiliation effected the quality of job you do. Reporters are people who try their best to remain neutral because this is their job. Vast majority of people try to do their job in an ethical fashion. Why do y’all assume reporters are different and wholly corrupt, except for those on Fox. Pathetic!

If Obama wins the election he will never live down the perception of being the first black affirmative action president awarded the office.
The media will see their integrity quotient drop to lows rivaled only by Congress’ approval rating.
The viewer’s and reader’s flight from biased journalism will make the ruin of financial institutions a fair comparison with the future bankrupted media outlets.
Those in the news media who survive the blood letting and retain their positions will work to see their paychecks confiscated by new tax laws passed by a Democrat led Congress’ and signed into law by the affirmative action President Obama.
Cities around the nation are currently reeling from the financial crisis and cutting costs under the weight of staggering deficits. One large piece of the pie chart for government expenditures is the criminal justice system. From the cops on the beat, the investigators, the court system and the cost of incarceration every portion of the system will suffer budget cuts.
Criminals understanding the situation will become embolden to commit more crime knowing that the system can no manage the onslaught of illegal activity. Theft, armed robbery, assaults, organized crime, murder, will turn the finances of honest citizens red as they bear the cost of vandalism and theft. The streets will turn red with the blood of those victims for whom personal property will not have been the only thing they lost.
The Democratic Party has never demonstrated the tendency to be hard on criminals. Obama is more likely to be sympathetic to the plight of the criminal element than to those of us who have something to loose.
Think things can’t get worse than the current crisis we are seeing right now?
Wait till the enemies outside our boarders view the weakened nation we call home.

“when women who are privileged present as though they have it all together, it’s offensive to black women”
What racist crap! Someone should tell Sherrilyn that “privileged” is what affirmative action babies like she Gwen, Barack and Michelle are. Palin has been anything but priveleged.
Furthermore, A. Coulter is 10 times the intellect that Ifill is. Makes me sick everytime I think that my tax money goes down the PBS sewer.

Does the MSM want a Socialist America?
Is it that if he is elected they wilo never be bored as the US collapses into a 3rd world status.
Is it that they truly believe as Bill Maher, that we are all just so stupid we should no longer be allowed to guide our own lives and country?
What is it?
We have a new Bay of Pigs brewing and Pirates running the African waters, is Obama the guy you want dealing with this?
Or are the “Entitlement” wanters really only careing more about what they can put in thier pockets and no the good of the world an the Nation?

Ifill may be an honest and decent woman, but it doesn’t really matter.
She was the wrong choice.
She is not sitting in on a private discussion between two friends. She is moderating the VP debate. If you can’t tell the difference then your IQ is in the sub-average half of the population.
If she didn’t believe that there was an apparent conflict, she’s dumber than a box of rocks, or astoundingly self-serving.
If she knew but didn’t disclose the apparent conflict, she’s not so honest and decent. She ought to be sent packing tomorrow morning. Let Obama feed her three-fer mass.
If she did disclose the apparent conflict, PBS ought to have its funding pulled – let her beg on the streets for contributions. Our economy needs a lot of things but not PBS.
If she is an honest and decent person, she ought to agree that she is fully accountable for her choices and must answer for them.

Gwen Ifil is certainly in the tank for Obama, and her book refers to “the age of Obama”. Since she will make a lot of money if he’s elected she has vested and fiancial interests in OLbama’s election. What about campaign contributions, including in-kind contributions?
She should have made this info public during the selection process, and she knows she should have done so.
She has total control of this debate and created the questions which will be asked. I expect her to ask embarrassing and other questions meant to put Palin on the defensive.
Does Biden have a pre-debate cheat sheet on the questions? I frankly would not doubt it. I have never seen a campaign as ruthless as the Obama campaign, particularly the “fan” section.

Nobody CARES about Eyeful’s god damn book on “civil rights”. “Civil rights” is nothing but black code for “gittin’ our share, whether we deserves it or not!”
NO ONE has more rights in America than black people do. And they STILL can’t make it on their own. They’re killing each other in their neighborhoods every day. Immigrants come here and make a career and a place for themselves, often in one generation. But blacks have been here since the 1600s, and have been waved to the head of EVERY employment, educational and handout line since the 1950′s and they are STILL wallowing in their own hateful, racist, white hating, blame everyone but themselves crapulence.
Screw Ifil, Obama and everyone supporting ideologues like them.
When the REAL revolution starts in the not too distant future, fronted by the people who’ve been carrying these lazy, arrogant bastards on their “tax shoulders” for 50 years with not even a “thank you” or a modicum of respect, all debts will be repaid with interest.

it is safe to say, to anyone who wants to take the blinders off, that poor people are responsible for the economic mess we are in today. it was because THEY demanded that they be given the opprtunities to buy a home BUT at little or no interest (because we are poor and viocitms) or no money down etc etc etc. so carter says yea then clinto says yea plus here is more help then threaten banks with fines if they dont loan money to poor people with no credit or bad credit with no ability to pay loans back. then dems play stupid like its not their fault and now we are where we are at today and they still act like its the repubs fault even though bush (2001) and mccain (2005) said stop the madness and start regulating fannie and freddie. dems VOTED NO and now we are in economic crisi. so it IS safe to say that poor people will make the rest of us poor. but thats okay for them cause bailout will help them and you and me will have to pay for it.

I’m waiting with bated breath for the end of the debate, where Joe Biden, face red like the country club drunk he is, generously thanks Gwen I-phone and asks her to “stand up and let the people see ya”.
I’m surprised, in the name of “norming” the setting of the debate, that Biden and Palin weren’t required to debate each other in wheel chairs so as not to be on a “higher level” than Ifil was. American’s with Disabilities Act, you know. Drag everyone down to the same level. That’s the new American mantra across the board.

So many of the comments are of a racial nature here. Either blacks being on the defensive or whites being offensive. Obama calls himself a blackman, many black people are followers and believers in him because he calls himself a blackman. He is in fact less than 25% black and is more of Arab ethnicity than anything else. So his “people”, the Arabs, captured and sold native Africans to the slave ships to be sent to the various colonies and he has the audacity to say he knows what it is to be black in America. Once again the black population is being led down the garden path by the Democratic party which promises them everything and delivers nothing. This is not the dream of Dr. King. And shame on Ms.Ifill.

Ifill is a rascist slob. She failed in her ethical obligation to disclose or recuse herself. It’s not a matter of whether she says she can be fair. The book, and her prior puff piece on the obama family in ebony (essence?), and her attack on Palin after her acceptance speech, and most importantly her playing the race card in an attempt to deflect from her own failure. She actually said all this is about a black reporter writing about a black and claimed she hadnt made up her mind on Obama yet. Right. Nothing worse than a dumb, racist liar.

Hey, I give the Republicans credit for going into these debates at all.
McCain wanted ten TOWNHALL meetings, where regular Americans could ask questions of both nominees…Obama ran away from that. Obama and all Democrats are more comfortable with questions from the liberal media.
Heck, the Democrat party is afraid to even go on FOX NEWS, for fear of getting a fair and balanced set of questions. Remember how the whole Democrat slate went out of the debate on Fox news?
So Palin and McCain get points for walking into this den of lions.

Sorry, but this situation reeks. If the lady were a judge presiding over litigation and it was discovered that she stood to personally profit by the outcome, we would see disbarment as a possibility. Ditto if she bet on her own sports team as a manager. Look at what happened to Pete Rose over that last one.
It doesn’t matter whether or not she tries to be impartial. It is clear to any reasonable person that she has a conflict of interest here. Potential conflicts may sometimes be resolved through open disclosure to the relevant parties. She chose not to disclose the conflicts to the debate group or to the campaigns.
Please note that it is not the job of the campaign to uncover your conflict of interest – it is your job as an ethical professional to disclose it and act accordingly. This lady has done neither.
It is indeed likely that the debate organizers would not have chosen her had her conflict been disclosed to them. It is reasonable to speculate that this is precisely why the conflict was not disclosed.
Her actions have clearly called into question the impartiality of the debate and brought a taint to it that could have been avoided by disclosure and an offer of recusal.
To those who would argue that McCain should complaining, I wonder if you would say the same thing if your favorite baseball team were playing in a series where it was discovered the umpire was betting on the outcome. Insisting the game played honestly is not whining. Your love of the game is what prompts you to demand that the rules be obeyed and those who officiate are above reproach.
Trying to defend conduct that really cannot be defended is the mark of a true partisan.

bob, remember that back in june obama sat down with foxnews higher ups and ASKED for the station to calm their people down (hannity and the like). fox said no and that they would inform the public of both good and bad news. so for obama to try to get news station to stop doing what they do best tells me that if elected, he will take control of foxnews and other dstations that are not liberal. i think that cnn, nbc, abc, cbs and msnbc know this and so that is why they kiss obamas butt and lean left for him. they want to remain on the air after jan 20.

Libtard, his half-brother that he met once is irrelevant. What about Cindy McCain that doesn’t even acknowledge that she has two half sisters?

Wholly manufactured, eh? Like ABC news reports by Obama-cheerleading hacks like Rick Klein? Hilarious…

Look at Biden and Obama, would you trust your baby with these jokers? I wouldn’t loan Biden $50 because he would deny ever receiving it ten minutes later. I wouldn’t hire Obama because he can’t submit a true copy of his birth certificate. Obama = Alcopone, Biden = Bloomberg ALL CROOKS!!
Biden JUST SAID he wants Iran to get nukes.

So if Barack was a little tired, we wouldn’t expect him to bumble all over himself, right? That’s cause he’s ‘real’ presidential material!
As if he could even make a coherent sentence without a teleprompter.
How about we check out Barack the same way, in a debate with an overtly biased moderator? Do you think that would be okay? I mean, if he is going to be president, shouldn’t he be able to take it, right?

It’s funny. A couple of years ago, people voted in the democrat congress as they wanted “change”. Look at what 2 years has brought.
- A global Financial Meltdown
- Lies from the party that created the mess.
So the question is – Can Congress just walk away from a problem it helped create?
Already, the U.S. Treasury and Federal Reserve have spent hundreds of billions of dollars to keep the subprime crisis from crashing the world economy. The collapse of twin mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, along with the failures of Lehman Bros., Bear Stearns and insurer AIG, expose taxpayers to more than $1 trillion in liabilities.
Until now, Congress has been surprisingly passive. As Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid put it, “no one knows what to do” right now.
Funny, since it was a Democrat-led Congress that helped cause the problems in the first place.
When House Speaker Nancy Pelosi recently barked “no” at reporters for daring to ask if Democrats deserved any blame for the meltdown, you saw denial in action.
Pelosi and her followers would have you believe this all happened because of President Bush and his loyal Senate lapdog, John McCain. Or that big, bad predatory Wall Street banks deserve all the blame.
“The American people are not protected from the risk-taking and the greed of these financial institutions,” Pelosi said recently, as she vowed congressional hearings.
Only one problem: It’s untrue.
Yes, banks did overleverage and take risks they shouldn’t have.
But the fact is, President Bush in 2003 tried desperately to stop Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac from metastasizing into the problem they have since become.
Here’s the lead of a New York Times story on Sept. 11, 2003: “The Bush administration today recommended the most significant regulatory overhaul in the housing finance industry since the savings and loan crisis a decade ago.”
Bush tried to act. Who stopped him? Congress, especially Democrats with their deep financial and patronage ties to the two government-sponsored enterprises, Fannie and Freddie.
“These two entities — Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac — are not facing any kind of financial crisis,” said Rep. Barney Frank, then ranking Democrat on the Financial Services Committee. “The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing.”
It’s pretty clear who was on the right side of that debate.
As for presidential contender John McCain, just two years after Bush’s plan, McCain also called for badly needed reforms to prevent a crisis like the one we’re now in.
“If Congress does not act,” McCain said in 2005, “American taxpayers will continue to be exposed to the enormous risk that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pose to the housing market, the overall financial system and the economy as a whole.”
Sounds like McCain was spot on.
But his warnings, too, were ignored by Congress.
To hear today’s Democrats, you’d think all this started in the last couple years. But the crisis began much earlier. The Carter-era Community Reinvestment Act forced banks to lend to uncreditworthy borrowers, mostly in minority areas.

Brock,
you are 100% correct. All that you have said is fact and can not be denied by anyone who has a brain in their head. So if anyone is gonna get called to the floor for this it will be the dems BUT NOT IF THEY RETAIN THE HOUSE and IF OBAMA BECOMES PRESIDENT. If we dont vote the dems out , and dont vote one in, then we will be on the raod to recovery and people will pay for their inaction.

Why is it that Repoublicans are constantly making up names for those they don’t like. Eyeful, Klinton, the “One”, Shrillary, Obummer, yet I rarely if ever see the liberals posting using nickames for the repulican candidates. Have long wondered about this.

Ok- so the debate is over and Orinn Hatch as channeled by Matt Drudge and reported by Rick Klein was absolutely and categorically WRONG about Gwen Ifill.
Where are the acknowledgments and apologies? Are you so unpatriotic and racist that you can’t admit that your assertions were wrong?

Marx always said that to control a society, you had to have control over the media, and the schools. Where do we find the vast majority of our leftists? The media, and the schools. Anyone who wonders why our media, and our academia are so biased towards leftism/socialism/marxism, need look no further than Uncle Karl’s book.

Who cares how the debate goes. I don’t believe there are many independents or undecided voters left. If Sarah Palin screws up then Republicans will point to Ifill and if Biden fell of the stage and landed on his face Democrats would get tingly feelings on their doodles and say “Did you see how graceful he was, he flew like a silver swan”.
Almost everyone who’s gonna vote has already made their choice and almost nothing will change it. Im no different, McCain could of walked out on stage with a sock puppet and introduced him as Mr Vepo and i would of still voted for him because i will NEVER support socialism.
By the grace of GOD i was lucky enough to be born an American, to be born free, and i will never willing enter the cage no matter how much fools gold the democrats paint on it.
Rush often says that ignorance is the most expensive thing out there and hes right. Because of ignorance and lousy educators a lot of democrats only see the so called free stuff and don’t recognize the INDENTURED SERVITUDE(<If you don't know what it means you might wanna look it up cause it will be on the test)that is the true cost of the stuff they get.
And Blacks, you of all people should be ashamed of yourselves. Forget the fact that the goal of freeing your people from slavery was the main motivator for the creation of the GOP. Forget the the fact that it was Republicans, not democrats that voted for your civil rights. No be ashamed because even a once hooked fish will be smart enough to avoid anymore funny looking worms.
To go from slave of a family to freedom back to servant of the government is beyond idiotic. You ask people to look beyond your skin color, how about you follow your own advice and take a good look at Obama. Does he wiggle strangely was that the flash of a hook you just saw?
I know life can be hard sometimes but if the devil showed up with a big bag of gold would you take it?. I wouldn't, but to those of you who would, enjoy, enjoy your gold, and your damnation.

Just catching up with the posts after watching the debate.
The second thing I said to my wife, after saying I thought Governor Palin did a great job, was to tell her that the moderator did a great job too and I thought she was very professional.
I enjoyed this debate a great deal more than the last one between the Senators. Furthermore my confidence has been restored in the McCain ticket. I have absolutely no fear about Palin having to step in as president.
She exhibited more confidence and ability than Obama was able to muster in his debate. Frankly I think he is in over his head.
When Bidin explained what his duties would be as VP I had to wonder what was going to be left for Obama to do.
Then it dawned on me, he will be watching Biden to see how it is done.

“This is the best posting I have read in a long time. I believe that you are right,Walter, in all you predict. Sad for America’s freedom. I also see the failure of our so-called “free press” as Americans no longer trust them”,
Mauren
Thank you, Mauren, for your thoughtfulness.
For all our sakes I hope I’m wrong. However, given the emotional wave sweeping the country for the Democratic candidate and the debilitated state of the nation my fear is that I haven’t begun to envision the scope of the danger that awaits the nation under an Obama administration

What? You mean Ifill didn’t write a book in praise of Obama, set it for release on inauguration day and fail to disclose the fact before the debate or mention it to the viewers?
Posted by: Matt | October 3, 2008, 12:46 am 12:46 am
I’m still trying to figure out exactly what every one is saying was debunked about Ifill. She most definitely has already written a fluff(er) piece on the Obama family for some magazine, and her publisher is releasing marketing notes on her upcoming book.
Spin, spin, spin.

“What? You mean Ifill didn’t write a book in praise of Obama,–”
I havent’t read the book and neither has anyone else. judging from what I know of Ifill, it does not seem likely that she will praise anybody. She is a very objective, academically charged writer not a political pundit. She will write facts and some of these facts will likely be far from the glowing endorsement that Orinn Hatch has imagined. It seems that very few of the kneejerk reactionaries commenting here are capable of self-assessment. Many if not most of the comments about this issue were anti-American and racist to the core. Just because Ifill is black does not mean that she is an Obama sycophant. To make that assertion or claim denies the intellectual and moral integrity of a respected journalist. What is more, the only reason that the claim was made that Ifill would be less than objective is that she is black and is writing a book on the evolution of the black political landscape. Who did you expect to write the book Karl Rove? Shawn Hannity? I was more worried that Ifill’s gender might stack against Biden. Funny that no on here suggested that the fact that the moderator was female might suggest that Ifill was in the tank for Palin. As I’ve repeated several times now, I am a Ron Paul supporter. I am still on the fence as to who I will vote for. Last night’s debate proved that Palin can hold her own against a senior statesman like Biden.
Still a bit of an empty suit and she did spin voting records and tax plans like a Washington liar. I note that not a single one of the Drudges has come back here to apologize for their statemets about Ifill in spite of the fact that Palin did so well and Ifill was one hundred percent objective to both.
Drudge by the way took down the link to this story and even erased it from the archives.
So you bigots have been bamboozeled and this has indeed proved to be yet another manufactured smear campaign created by and for the lying cheating Karl Rove campaign.
