Palin’s traveling hair stylist Angela Lew, the fourth highest paid individual during that time, was paid $10,000 over two weeks in October for what the campaign called “communications consulting.”

Why are you covering this really frivolous story but you are ignoring Palin’s comments from her NBC interview. She specifically refused to say that the criminals who bomb abortion clinics are terrorists. Apparently she believes they are not because “terrorists” attack “innocent” people and those folks who work in abortion clinics are not “innocent”, in her view. This is a really sick, dangerous and yes “unAmerican” point of view, especially coming from someone who wants to be our Vice-President. More importantly, McCain sat right there and said nothing while she made this outrageous distinction.

And we were outraged with John Edwards paying $400 per cut? Assuming Mr. Edwards had his hair cut once a week at $400 a pop, Mrs. Palin’s budget for two weeks would have allowed him about 1.5 years of weekly cuts. Gad!

Now wait, while I think the clothes story has been overblown (Obama supporter here) I do have a serious question.
Why on earth would any campaign spend more on the VP nominee’s hair and makeup “advisors” than they would on the Presidential nominee’s foreign policy and senior communications staffer?
That just blows me away. Not because you’d might think either. I’m not “hating” on Palin. I’m criticizing the people who run the campaign. The foreign policy and communications people are EXTREMELY important. They are crucial members of any campaign.
I realize that hair and makeup takes talent. Having been involved with theater for many years, I know that it takes talent to make people look good for the camera. Any candidate, and especially a woman, needs to make a positive impression on the public. (there’s that nasty double standard, women must look good) I find no fault with the campaign making sure they both look the part, including clothes.
But wouldn’t you all agree that foreign policy trumps makeup in importance and that the talent needed to be a good foreign policy advisor is much deeper and harder to come by?
I truly believe that this campaign is completely disfunctional and it’s no wonder that McCain has not been able to find a message that works. If the management can’t see that foreign policy needs to be good and well paid, then there is nothing that can be done to save them.

Sarah Palin is a SHAM, just like Joe The Plumber. If she is the best the GOP has, they are in trouble in the future.

From an LA Times article today on Palin’s record in Alaska:
* More than 100 appointments to state posts — nearly 1 in 4 — went to campaign contributors or their relatives, sometimes without apparent regard to qualifications.
* Palin filled 16 state offices with appointees from families that donated $2,000 to $5,600 and were among her top political patrons.
* Several of Palin’s leading campaign donors received state-subsidized industrial development loans of up to $3.6 million for business ventures of questionable public value.
* Palin picked a donor to replace the public safety commissioner she fired. But the new top cop had to resign days later under an ethics cloud. And Palin drew a formal ethics complaint still pending against her and several aides for allegedly helping another donor and fundraiser land a state job.
Most new governors install friends and supporters in state jobs. But Alaska historians say some of Palin’s appointees were less qualified than those of her Republican and Democratic predecessors.
University of Alaska historian Steve Haycox said Palin has been a reformer. But he said she has a penchant for placing supporters, many of them ill-prepared, in high posts. He called it “cronyism” far beyond what previous governors have done and a contradiction of her high-minded philosophy.
Terrence Cole, an Alaska political historian, said Palin had in some cases shown “a disrespect for experience.”
Administration officials disputed such criticism. They said campaign contributions were not a factor in state appointments. Frank Bailey, the state’s directorof boards and commissions, in speaking for Palin, who was not available to answer inquiries from The Times, said, “We are always seeking the best-qualified folks.”
In a little-noted sequel to Palin’s controversial dismissal of her public safety commissioner, the governor replaced Walt Monegan with former small-town Police Chief Charles Kopp of Kenai. The appointment unraveled almost immediately in what Cole called a vetting catastrophe.
A previous sexual harassment complaint came to light and Kopp had to resign two weeks after taking over. Alaska paid him $10,000 in severance.
After another of Palin’s campaign donors and fundraisers landed a civil service job with the state department of transportation, GOP activist Andree McLeod filed an ethics complaint against the governor and several aides, alleging that improper pressure was used to help Tom Lamal.
Lamal, a public school teacher in Fairbanks until he retired in 2006, was hired as a right-of-way agent despite reports of internal conflicts over whether he was qualified under state law.
E-mail messages between Palin aides, obtained by McLeod under the state public records act, indicate that the hiring was pushed “through the roadblocks” by a deputy to one of Palin’s appointees. And Palin aide Bailey sent Lamal a congratulatory note saying, in part, “Well now your foot’s back in the door and maybe we can tap you for other things.”

EXCLUSIVE: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has directed nearly $100,000 from her political action committee to her husband’s real estate and investment firm over the past decade, a practice of paying a spouse with political donations that she supported banning last year.
Financial Leasing Services Inc. (FLS), owned by Paul F. Pelosi, has received $99,000 in rent, utilities and accounting fees from the speaker’s “PAC to the Future” over the PAC’s nine-year history.
The payments have quadrupled since Mr. Pelosi took over as treasurer of his wife’s committee in 2007, Federal Election Commission records show. FLS is on track to take in $48,000 in payments this year alone – eight times as much as it received annually from 2000 to 2005, when the committee was run by another treasurer.
Lawmakers’ frequent use of campaign donations to pay relatives emerged as an issue in the 2006 election campaigns, when the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal gave Democrats fodder to criticize Republicans such as former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay of Texas and Rep. John T. Doolittle of California for putting their wives on their campaign and PAC payrolls for fundraising work.

Last year, Mrs. Pelosi supported a bill that would have banned members of Congress from putting spouses on their campaign staffs. The bill – which passed the House in a voice vote but did not get out of a Senate committee – banned not only direct payments by congressional campaign committees and PACs to spouses for services including consulting and fundraising, but also “indirect compensation,” such as payments to companies that employ spouses.
“Democrats are committed to reforming the way Washington does business,” Mrs. Pelosi said in a press release at the time. “Congressman [Adam] Schiff’s bill will help us accomplish that goal by increasing transparency in election campaigns and preventing the misuse of funds.”
Last week, Mrs. Pelosi’s office said the payments to her husband’s firm were perfectly legal, insisting she is compensating her husband at fair market value for the work his firm has performed for the PAC. But ethical watchdogs said the arrangement sends the wrong message.
“It’s problematic,” said Melanie Sloan, executive director of the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), a nonprofit ethics and watchdog group. “From what I understand, Mr. Pelosi doesn’t need the money, but this isn’t the issue. … As speaker of the House, it sends the wrong message. She shouldn’t be putting family members on the payroll.”
A senior adviser to Mrs. Pelosi described the payments to FLS as “business expenses.”

“She’s followed all the appropriate rules and regulations in terms of records and paperwork,” said Brendan Daly, Mrs. Pelosi’s spokesman. “When [former treasurer] Leo McCarthy became ill, she thought that it was best that that firm did the accounting and she’s paid fair market value in San Francisco.”
Between 1999 and 2006, FLS collected $500 per month to cover rent, utilities and equipment for the leadership PAC, according to the FEC records. The PAC’s address is listed as a personal mailbox in San Francisco, across the street from FLS’s Montgomery Street office building, but the rent payments went to an office space.
In early 2007, the PAC’s treasurer, Leo T. McCarthy, former Democratic speaker of the state assembly and lieutenant governor in California, died. Mr. Pelosi took over as treasurer and his company’s PAC payouts rose.
At that point, FLS started charging the PAC $24,000 per year for accounting work. In January 2008, the PAC’s rent – paid to FLS – also quadrupled from $500 to $2,000 per month.
Mr. McCarthy, the previous treasurer, had done the work as a volunteer, according to FEC documents and Jennifer Crider, a senior adviser to Mrs. Pelosi and spokeswoman for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. She said FLS’ accounting fees are in line with costs for other PACs.
The jump in rent was an adjustment to reflect San Francisco’s pricey real estate market, Miss Crider said. The rent was adjusted to $1,250 per month, with $750 in back rent to reflect that the rent should have been increased in mid-2007. This was the first increase since the PAC was established in mid-1999, records show.
Over the first six months of 2008, FLS was the largest vendor for Mrs. Pelosi’s PAC. Brian Wolff, a political consultant, is the second-largest vendor, bringing in $22,500 this year.
FLS’ payments represent 11 percent of the $213,900 the PAC raised over the first half of this year, according to the FEC documents.
PACs, which are designed to help politicians contribute to other candidates and build influence with colleagues, operate under lighter restrictions than traditional campaign committees.
Meredith McGehee, policy director at the nonpartisan Campaign Legal Center, said putting family members on a PAC payroll is bound to raise questions and, in some cases, allow for abuse.
“The reality is that under the current system, PACs are rife with self-dealing transactions,” she said. “The laws and regulations could and should be strengthened.
“There is a point now that you’re starting to talk about real money,” she said of Mrs. Pelosi’s PAC. “This is not just a mom-and-pop operation and any self-dealing transaction by a member of Congress is going to get scrutiny, particularly with large amounts of money and prominent members.”
It is illegal for members of Congress to hire family members to work on their official staff, but hiring relatives to work on a campaign or PAC is legal.
To be sure, many political action committees employ or work with family businesses. Last year, CREW found that 19 members of Congress used campaign committees or PACs to purchase services from a family member between 2002 and 2006.
Mrs. Pelosi’s PACs have been in trouble before. In 2004, one of her political action committees, Team Majority, was fined $21,000 by the FEC for accepting donations over federal limits. It was one of two PACs she operated at the same time. The Team Majority PAC was closed shortly after the fine was levied.

BUT, I guarantee you it was for TV ads, travel, and ALL things necessary in ANY campaign, but DEFINITELY NOT for Sen. Obama’s clothes or make-up or Sen. Biden’s clothes or make-up. (Or that of their wives & families – and all these facts have already been vetted!) EveryONE in the Obama camp buys their own clothes, out of their own pockets.

Because the McCain’s, Obama’s and Biden’s all pay for their own clothes and such. There’s a loophole in the law that McCain co-sponsored for campaign finance reform that allows the RNC to pay for personal use expenses such as clothing. Otherwise, they are illegal.

This is SO Old, you raise a good point. Why are the makeup, hair, stylist people being paid much more than the foreign policy tutor and communications tutor? Although there is merit to a story like this, enough is enough, (Obama supporter here, its time to end this. Obama has nonetheless promised to devote another $1.32 trillion over the next 10 years to several new or expanded refundable tax credits and a special exemption for seniors, according to the Urban Institute and Brookings Institution’s Tax Policy Center (TPC). He calls this a “middle-class tax cut,” while suggesting the middle class includes 95% of those who work.
Mr. Obama’s proposed income-based health-insurance subsidies, tax credits for tiny businesses, and expanded Medicaid eligibility would cost another $1.63 trillion, according to the TPC. Thus his tax rebates and health insurance subsidies alone would lift the undisclosed bill to future taxpayers by $2.95 trillion — roughly $295 billion a year by 2012.
But that’s not all. Mr. Obama has also promised to spend more on 176 other programs, according to an 85-page list of campaign promises (actual quotations) compiled by the National Taxpayers Union Foundation. The NTUF was able to produce cost estimates for only 77 of the 176, so its estimate is low. Excluding the Obama health plan, the NTUF estimates that Mr. Obama would raise spending by $611.5 billion over the next five years; the 10-year total (aside from health) would surely exceed $1.4 trillion, because spending typically grows at least as quickly as nominal GDP.
A trillion here, a trillion there, and pretty soon you’re talking about real money. Altogether, Mr. Obama is promising at least $4.3 trillion of increased spending and reduced tax revenue from 2009 to 2018 — roughly an extra $430 billion a year by 2012-2013.

Raising the tax rates on the salaries, dividends and capital gains of those making more than $200,000-$250,000, and phasing out their exemptions and deductions, can raise only a small fraction of the amount. Even if we have a strong economy, Mr. Obama’s proposed tax hikes on the dwindling ranks of high earners would be unlikely to raise much more than $30 billion-$35 billion a year by 2012.
Besides, Mr. Obama does not claim he can finance his ambitious plans for tax credits, health insurance, etc. by taxing the rich. On the contrary, he has an even less likely revenue source in mind.
In his acceptance speech at the Democratic convention on Aug. 28, Mr. Obama said, “I’ve laid out how I’ll pay for every dime — by closing corporate loopholes and tax havens.” That comment refers to $924.1 billion over 10 years from what the TPC wisely labels “unverifiable revenue raisers.” To put that huge figure in perspective, the Congressional Budget Office optimistically expects a total of $3.7 trillion from corporate taxes over that period. In other words, Mr. Obama is counting on increasing corporate tax collections by more than 25% simply by closing “loopholes” and complaining about foreign “tax havens.”
Nobody, including the Tax Policy Center, believes that is remotely feasible. And Mr. Obama’s dream of squeezing more revenue out of corporate profits, dividends and capital gains looks increasingly unbelievable now that profits are falling, banks have cut or eliminated dividends, and only a few short-sellers have any capital gains left to tax.

For those of you who don’t like the coverage, I have two words: Sean Hannity. You won’t hear one syllable against Palin or McCain on that show. Not allowed. The election is only relevent in so far as it will determine which way this country choses to go forward. It’s bad now. It’s going to get worse. There wont be rioting in the streets over McCain or Obama. If it comes to a point of rioting, it will be because the country has been run into the ground. McCain can say he wont “spread the wealth around” but people don’t want to see 700Billion (plus – into the trillions before it’s done) going straight to the Fat Cats. He’s going to HAVE to spend on Middle America, whether he wants to or not. He has no choice. You can’t get blood out of a stone, Tim. Middle America has been bled dry. Obama or McCain – whoever gets in – needs to invest in Middle America. Genius Joe: You’re right about France – the people absolutely run the Government in that country. The Government makes the ‘wrong’ move in France and the people are out in the streets en masse telling their Government what to do – and the Government listens. I think that’s how it should be. They have universal health and a rock solid social security system in France. So, whatever happens, the majority of people are looked after and will weather the storm. My fear is, we aren’t as well placed as a lot of the European Countries. So when things get worse here, the majority of people are vulnerable in the worst ways, and that’s a recipe for disaster. Sorry, but we’ve already spread the wealth of Middle America – we need some back.

Tim – NO – I am prolife AND prochoice. So keeping abortion legal as it is NOW (restrictions on late term, etc.) will preserve MORE lives than overturning it. Many, many more women & unborn children will lose their lives if we go back to pre-Roe v. Wade laws. I choose to save as many lives as possible, given what women will do irrespective of the law….

To abort a life may be to save an entire generation; possibly more, from poverty or prostitution. A pill is routinely given so a man can get an erection–and potentially rape a virgin girl/child–who becomes pregnant. Why should she not be able to take a pill to prevent his pleasure/abuse from ruining her life? It touches all those around her, profoundly.
Most insurance companies fight paying for it. They do easily pay for the stimulant.

I can tell you as a woman who is still of child bearing age who has 5 children (2 daughters I gave birth to who are now of childbearing age) and three step-children (one whom is a girl of child bearing age)…I will do everything within my power to keep the right for us to use the birth control pill. If the HHS is allowed to redefine these types of contraception as abortion – with the help of people like Gov Palin if elected and then allow that administration to choose Supreme Court Justices whom they feel will overthrow Roe V Wade… we will lose this right.
That is but one of the reasons that I will STRONGLY campaign against Governor Palin…though it is not the ONLY one.

So now Obama and Pelosi will try to tax your 401Ks. Now the middle class will be impacted too.

Just consider this. I’m a father of five kids. My wife and I adopted our oldest daughter at birth through an open adoption. This little girl almost didn’t get an opportunity to be born. She was just hours away from being aborted when, thankfully, her teenage birth-mom reconsidered and went through with her pregnancy.
So, I’ll apologize for my tone and be on my way. I probably shouldn’t comment on an issue that’s so personal to me anyway.

I know the pharmacist in my own area (and yes…I live in rural North Idaho..in between where Gov Palin was born and where she graduated from college)…told my 20 year old (unmarried) daughter…that if she was his daughter he would never “allow” her to obtain the pill. He filled the prescription for her…but not without shaming her…which I felt was completely out of order.

If you want to talk about tests…let’s refresh on Senator McCain’s experience during Vietnam on the USS Forestal…You know that little incident when his plane accidentally dropped bombs on the deck of the Forrestal…subsequently setting of a series of explosions? While his shipmates frantically tried to put out the fires and save their own lives and the lives of those around them…he scurried below decks and watched them struggling via closed circuit tv from the officer’s break room. Over 100 of them died…and the next day when the cleanup and overseas burials began…he hitched a ride to Hanoi with a NY Times reporter for some “much needed” R&R..

This “wing-nut” believes it’s better for children to have two-parents, a mom and a dad, however I personally would never discourage same-sex couples from adopting a child so long as they were commited to each other. Why? Because parents who commit to raising a child typically do so out of genuine love, and because they believe passionately that they can provide a stable and supportive environment.
Children need a loving and caring home. Period. Government can play a role in fascilitating programs that encourage adoption, foster parenting and counseling.

this was a column about her clothes and somehow her views on abortion got brought up!! Well I do have to say as a women who got an abortion, I would have to say ,there is so much emotional baggage and what if’s after the fact. It took me a long time to forgive myself,,I got over it and moved on however it is very difficult at least for me. I know girls who have used abortions as a means for birth control (not literaly) but there are a few that i have wondered about. NOw there is enough contraceptives out there without having to do that, I believe every women has a choice,but what happens when it is excessive? I know another girl,,women now,,and i know OF them,, that had so many abortions she had scar tissue and couldnt conceive when she wanted to. There are alot more issues involved here then the actual fetus. That is part of it,,but alot more that should be addressed. That is just how i feel. He gave us nearly double digit unemployment, double digit inflation, and a 19% prime interest rate. His approval rating got down to 21%. Not as low as our current Congress, but the lowest of ANY President.

Obama and Marx: A crash course

“A spectre is haunting Europe — the spectre of Communism.”
With those words, Karl Marx launched a revolution with “The Communist Manifesto.” Interestingly, the opening of his essay, cowritten with Friedrich Engels, begins with the assertion that the European powers are using the “branding reproach of Communism” to label their opponents. Marx then says, “It is high time the communists should openly, in the face of the whole world, publish their views, their aims, their tendencies, and meet this nursery tale of the spectre of Communism with a Manifesto of the party itself.”
If Marx were alive today and living in San Francisco, perhaps he would have instead written this: “A spectre is haunting Democratic politics — the spectre of socialism.” Certainly, the “branding reproach of socialism” is now publicly acknowledged to have been used against the Democratic Party, and against its standard bearer, Barack Obama. It is high time for Obama and his allies to publicly assert their political and economic philosophy. If it is socialism, say so. If it is not, please explain why.
This, of course, is made immediately relevant by Obama’s famous comment to Joe the Plumber that, “I think when you spread the wealth around, it’s good for everybody.” In particular he was talking about his tax plan, which is a plan for redistribution of wealth from top to bottom.
This is a matter of fact. When Obama tells you that his tax plan will benefit 95 percent of taxpayers, he is misstating the truth. The fact is that 30 to 40 percent of Americans, the poorest among us, already don’t pay any taxes. But what Obama’s plan will do is allow them to sign up for a variety of tax credits, so the government will send them a check for a couple thousand dollars or more every year. Where does the money come from to make those payments? From Americans who do pay taxes. It literally is redistribution of wealth. Instead of using taxes to pay for the necessities of infrastructure and defense that they were intended for, the government as envisioned by Obama will be “spreading the wealth around.”
The question is whether Americans care. And if they don’t, why not?
Ask yourself, why did we spend 50 years after World War II fighting a Cold War to eliminate communism if we actually believe in it? Is this nation actually prepared to admit we were wrong, and Karl Marx was right? Marx’s credo, “From each according to his ability; to each according to his need,” has a nice ring. It can easily be seen as an institutionalized form of Christian charity — providing for the less able, or the less advantaged. But look at the results of communism and socialism in Europe, and you will quickly conclude that any philosophical niceties are vastly outweighed by the political realities.
When you look at Marx’s list of goals for communism in chapter two of “The Communist Manifesto” (www.marxists.org/archive/marx/works/1848/communist-manifesto/ch02.htm), you can see that socialism has already made great advances in the United States. But in particular pay attention to No. 2 — “A heavy progressive or graduated income tax.”
In this regard, Obama has outdone Marx himself. A progressive tax just puts a greater share of the burden on the rich. We already have long since had such a tax. But now Obama wants to find a way to hand out money to the poor. Is it any wonder that he is ahead in the polls?
As Ben Franklin reputedly said, “When the people find they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic.”

Hi Ikinopfl, i’m only going to discuss the military in this comment with you, because you are military connected and we are only about 2% of the population (the economy and taxes and smaller government, education, and health care for those who need it and cannot afford it – are all equally important to me). I have serious concerns for the safety of our military if Obama is elected President. I simple do not trust Obama , nor the Democratic Congress (reid , pelosi , etc…) too ensure the safety of those I love who are serving. When Senator McCain went over there during Thanksgiving, my son (22 yrs) had a chance to talk with him, my son was very impressed with Senator McCain , he said he was down to earth and he (mccain) genuinely seemed interested in what he (my son) had to say as a soldier. As a Military man, McCain would always look after the best interest of our troops and our Country. I truly believe this. Please understand, I disagree with Senator McCain on quite a few issues , but it boils down to who I can trust . McCain has a verifiable record , Obama does not. Have you checked McCain’s voting record on veteran’s issues? He has repeatedly voted against increases in pay, health care for returning vets, etc. etc. etc. He is also the one who “jokingly” sang “Bomb, Bomb, Bomb Iran”. He finished near the BOTTOM of his class at the Naval Academy, and his fellow students there were worried about his “hot-headedness”. He is the son and grandson of Admirals, which gives him a very skewed sense of his own importance. This is NOT the man we need in the Presidency, with our loved ones in harm’s way! I am very glad that John McCain was pleasant and respectful to your son. It’s the least he could do. I’m afraid, however, that his voting record does not reflect that appearance. Please check the facts and reconsider before you doom your loved ones to more wars under McCain. Thanks again for your sacrifices. My heart and prayers are with you!

This easily could have been a professional article if the writer was willing to spend more time on it and not be so lazy. Where is the contrast of clothing style and expenditures before and after the campaign started. Were these expendatures initiated by Sara or the RNC? What is the history in politics of either party and their campaigns creating an image with clothes, hair and make up. I notice she looks a little “Jackie O” in some of her outfits.

Barack Obama Couldn’t Pass a Routine Background Investigation

A while back, radio talk show host Michael Savage brought up the notion that Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama couldn’t pass a background investigation to become an FBI special agent.
He doesn’t know how right he is.
Sen. Barack Obama wouldn’t pass a routine government background investigation, not only to become an FBI agent, but a police officer as well. If he were a soldier, his background would preclude him from obtaining a security clearance. He wouldn’t even qualify to be a support person in a federal agency, such as secretary, for that matter. His past cocaine usage disqualifies him from being a DEA agent.
There’s another big problem Sen. Obama has: His association and business relationship with Weatherman Underground founder William Ayers, a former domestic terrorist who is still unrepentant for his bombings on U.S. landmarks and police stations. Usually, the company you keep reveals who you really are. Ayers felt then, as he does now, that America is the evil of the world and needs punishing for past and current bad acts. Not many federal agencies would want someone with that kind of chip on his shoulder working for it.
Also, Sen. Obama’s association with Tony Rezko and the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) come to mind. Rezko was just convicted of promoting corruption among Chicago politicians. He helped in the purchase of the senator’s home and was a campaign fundraiser for Obama. ACORN is being investigated by the feds for systematic voter registration fraud. Not good things.
Let’s not forget about Sen. Obama’s pastor and mentor for 20 years, America-hater Rev. Jeremiah Wright. When first questioned about his membership in Wright’s black theology church, Sen. Obama first denied knowing Rev. Wright harbored such negative feelings about the U.S., but after being further pressed, he dismissed the reverend’s conduct as like a “crazy uncle” who lived in the basement. He finally decided that he couldn’t politically afford to stay in the church, and dropped his membership.
To keep job applicants honest, many government agencies such as DEA, FBI, CIA and others require them to take a polygraph examination. Do you think Sen. Obama could pass a polygraph when he approves an ad that mocks Sen. John McCain for being unable to send e-mails without mentioning his poorly mended broken arms while in custody of the North Vietnamese which prevents him from manipulating the computer keyboard? He’s not computer illiterate, he’s handicapped!
Would you want a police officer in your city associating with such people? Not likely. But Obama supporters ignore these associations because they are desperate for a Democrat in the White House.
A federal government full-field background investigation would also look for prior inconsistencies, exaggerations and outright lies on an application for employment.
I once conducted a background check for an applicant to become a secretary for DEA. She had previously worked for a large police department as a secretary, and left the job to have a child. She was ready to re-enter the workforce and wanted to work for DEA. She seemed perfect for the job until the background investigation revealed that she lied on her application. She claimed to have 30-semester hours of college in office management, when in reality she attended one day of one class and then dropped out. The fact that she lied was sufficient justification to consider her application no further. After all, if she would lie about that, what else has she lied about? Obviously the woman lacked integrity, which is a vital qualification for any position within the federal government, even a DEA secretary who would have access to all investigative reports.
I’d like to conduct Sen. Obama’s background investigation. I’d review his application for the Illinois state bar and see if he mentioned the drug usage that he disclosed in one of his books. If the question about drugs was asked, and he denied it at the time, his integrity is immediately put into question. He revealed it in his book to float a balloon to test his potential as a viable presidential candidate. Admitting it prevented his political opponents from attacking him about it. In fact, in the eyes of many Sen. Obama supporters, using drugs enhances his resume. It’s something they can relate to.
Personally I like my presidents to not associate with known criminals, be drug-free for a lifetime, have unquestioned integrity and be able to pass a simple background investigation.

The Cost of the Barackopolis

Yesterday I wrote that the Democratic National Convention Committee spent $140,000 on podium “production”–which I thought seemed to include the cost of of Obama’s Greek-columned stage (aka the Barackopolis) at Invesco Field where he delivered his acceptance speech. DNCC spokeswoman Jenni Engebretsen writes in an email that these expenses were “related to podium functions and personnel rather than podium structures,” and she does not know how much the stage at Invesco cost.
Greg Pollowitz points out this article, which reported that “Convention expenses paid by the committee included $14.1 million for construction costs, including the stage and lighting, at the Pepsi Center and $5.3 million at Invesco Field.” How much of that $5.3 million was spent on Obama’s Greek columns is unknown. I took a look at the FEC report, but, shockingly, there isn’t an itemized expense for “gaudy Greek Styrofoam columns.” I guess the DNC was a bit smarter than the RNC this time.

Why are people mad that ABC reported this story? Palin caused all this on herself.
Nobody would have cared about her spending money on clothes if she had not been babbling on and on about being a simple hockey mom claiming she is just like you and me.
Also this does have to do with the issues. McCain campaign claims it is so worried about Obama’s foreign policy experience just as democrats are worried about Sarah’s so the fact that more emphasis is put on how Sarah looks as opposed to keeping her abreast and knowledgeable of foreign affairs is disturbing.
Obama is not going on and on about being joe six pack. Barack and Michelle are rich Michelle alone makes 300,000.00 a year but they were both poor at one point. They are not going on a rant about how down to earth they are. Also it has been said that many of Michelle’s outfits were under 200.00 for her appearances.
Now the story about Cindy’s outfits was crazy, I mean the women is a millionaire many times over why wouldn’t she dressed in the best. But Sarah can’t have it both ways saying I am so folksy and then empahsis on looks over policy. That is why this is an issue not because the media is trying to get on Palin. So stop whining about poor little Sarah this women is mean and spiteful along with being tough trust me she is not phased.

The way you spend your money always reveals your true priorities. The same thing applies to campaignns. Obbiously it’s more important to the McCain campaign to spend their donor’s contributions on hair, makeup, and clothes than on experts in foreign policy. Style over substance!
Why should we be surprised? The republicans have spent 8 years squandering trillions of dollars of borrowed money. The last 8 years’ debt is more than the amount accumulated by all other adminstrations combined! That’s no small feat by the republicans. How they manage to say they’re fiscally responsible with a straight face is a joke.

Obama is spending $29 million a week. Do some research into that, cowards.
