Palin Hopes to Rise Above ‘Shots’ on SNL
ABC News’ Teddy Davis, Imtiyaz Delawala, and Rigel Anderson Report:
Sarah Palin discussed her upcoming "Saturday Night Live" appearance on Friday, telling Neal Boortz in a radio interview that she does not know what the late-night sketch comedy show has lined up for her while adding that it is a chance to "rise above the political shots that we take."
"I haven’t seen a script — not at all. They haven’t even hinted about what that script is going to say," said Palin.
"But you know," she said, "I just want to be there to show Americans that we will rise above the political shots that we take because we’re in this serious business for serious challenges that are facing the good American people right now. That’s why we’re campaigning hard. That’s why we’re working hard."
Asked if she is going to play Tina Fey, the actress who has been skewering the Alaska governor’s debate performances and television interviews, Palin said, "I should. That’s a good idea."
She then added: "Oh, I don’t know what they have lined up."
Beyond previewing her SNL appearance, Palin was also asked about McCain’s widely praised joint appearance with Barack Obama at Thursday’s Al Smith dinner.
Boortz told Palin that people have been asking him, "Where has that McCain been?"
"(Laughter) I think that’s the problem with campaigns," said Palin. "Doggone it. There aren’t enough hours in the day to really be able to express all aspects of who a candidate is and where they want to lead this great country."
Palin was asked at the very end of her interview if she has ever heard of the "Fair Tax."
The Alaska governor indicated that she was familiar with it and expressed frustration with the current system but stopped short of endorsing the tax overhaul.
"I have" [heard of it] said Palin, "and you know what, in listening to it, and hearing more about it, we know that our current system is so doggone burdensome that anything would be better than our current tax code."
The "Fair Tax" proposal, which was championed by Mike Huckabee before he won this year’s Iowa Caucuses, would replace all federal taxes with a 23 percent sales tax.
In order to offset its impact on the poor, the legislation would offer a monthly prebate to all Americans. The size of a household’s prebate would be calculated by multiplying 23 percent — the size of the new tax — against the government-established poverty level for a household of that size.
According to the 2007 federal poverty level, an adult with no children would receive an annual prebate of $2,348 (which would come in monthly checks of $196). A married couple with two children would receive an annual prebate of $6,297 (which would come in monthly checks of $525).
Even though the "Fair Tax" is marketed as "revenue neutral," liberal tax policy experts have substantial questions as to whether a 23 percent retail sales tax on its own would adequately cover the current cost of government.
"If you haven’t read the book, the head of your ticket has one," Boortz told Palin, referring to one of the books that he and John Linder have co-authored on the "Fair Tax."

PALIN IS NOTHING BUT A PARROT!!
Like the “straw man” in the Wizard of Oz, she doesn’t have a brain! When are the American people and the press going to STAND UP and DEMAND she does a full blown 30 minute press conference??
Do you Republicans object to this? If you do why?
I will give you the answer, because there is nothing in that pretty head of hers! All she can do is read speeches written FOR her off a teleprompter!!
This is a travesty! How can somebody so stupid, that has just been convicted of ABUSE of POWER, still be a serious contender in this race???
PRESS CONFERENCE, PRESS CONFERENCE, PRESS CONFERENCE FOR PALIN!!!!

Notice that almost all of John McCain’s video’s from You Tube are missing? You Tube has removed McCain’s campaign videos immediately upon receipt of the take-down notice despite the “complete lack of merit in these copyright claims (video’s that used 10 seconds or less of footage from any news broadcast). Who submitted to You Tube the request for the removal of McCain’s videos —- it’s another secret!
Let’s see voter fraud in many states (ACORN) and that’s okay, outspending John McCain 7-1 with money unknown sources and that’s okay, removing John McCain advertising and that’s okay —-because we are NOT electing a President, it has been decided by the Democrats! Welcome socialism to America and high taxes —no longer the home of the “brave and the free”.

If not, you can have one with McComic & McNotsocomic.
They truly deserve each other. I hope this comedy only runs in Alaska & Arizona.
The rest of the 48 atates can have a real Tina Fey- a talented artist.

Neal Boortz? Ugh. I almost couldn’t read on.
With regards to SNL, I don’t think I can watch her. I’m sorry – not even to laugh at her. Her voice hurts my ears so badly I have to hit mute anytime she pops up on CNN – screeching at a rally.
I wish I were joking.

I am struck by the general tone of these comments and how disrespectful they are of the Republican Candidates for the Presidency. . . and in that- they are also disrespecting the political process and hence, the Democrat candidate as well. . .
What a Shame.

Thankfully, I have enough sense to not watch that moron on SNL. I will wait for SNL to return to normalcy where Tina Fey rules. They should not allow the bimbo prom queen (who couldn’t even win a beauty pageant) on the show UNTIL she is willing to meet the media – and I mean ALL the media – for a press conference where she can’t read from a script or teleprompter. Pa[l]in has no brain, no wit, and should not be allowed on ANY television show until she can prove she has the guts or brains to “meet the press!” What a joke it is having her on the “wing nuts’ (rightwingers for those of you who don’t get it) ticket.

Sounding stupid is easy enough. All it requires sometimes is a lack of punctuation.
The only requirement to be a politician in Alaska is a willingness to put out for Big Oil. Palin never challenged that dymamic… she just upped the rates.

She didn’t give a damn about being VP for what it really meant. She just wanted it because she could get exposure and as we see here she has no problems with all the Fun SNL has had at her expense because she’s getting a second shot at Showbiz but she was angry at Caty Couric for asking tought questions? The ‘fairtax’ sounds a lot like Richard M. Nixon’s negative income tax from the 1970′s. I’d be willing to pay, say 25% tax on everything purchased except food and prescription medications. Eliminate all others. If you don’t want to pay taxes, don’t spend your money. This would also tap the underground economy which is now off the books. Even drug dealers have to buy toothpaste and clothes.
Posted by: kseyetie | October 17, 2008, 2:00 pm 2:00 pm
NO ONE on the Right is taking the Fair Tax seriously, Neal. Why don’t you raise HELL about that when you have them on your show ?
Posted by: spiderbucket | October 17, 2008, 2:03 pm 2:03 pm
OMG, the “Fair Tax”, what’s FAIR about that? The 5% folks at the top of the economic ladder must be chortling and rubbing their hands at that proposal, because it will affect them financially about as much as a single dinner at Elettaria would.
As for Sarah Palin, there isn’t a script in the world she couldn’t handle. It’s what she says UNSCRIPTED that interests me, and so far, the Repubs haven’t let her off her leash.
Same goes for her upcoming SNL appearance. She says she hasn’t seen a script.
Wouldn’t it be a howl if THERE ISN’T ONE, and they expect her to speak extemporaneously (any good high school debater can do that)?
I’d stay up late to watch that!

Why I am voting Democrat!
I’m voting Democrat because I believe the government will do a better job of spending MY MONEY than I would. I think when you spread the wealth around it is good for everybody! It’s Patriotic!
I’m voting Democrat because I believe that business should not be allowed to make profits for themselves. All profits are evil and should be confiscated for Government Redistribution.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe that MORE Government regulations and higher taxes on Business will stop Business from exporting their jobs to Countries with LESS Government regulations and lower taxes.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe terrorists should be allowed to have trials in American courts. And be able to subpoena top secret documents, soldiers, government officials, etc. to cross examine for their defense. They should have ACLU lawyers who can help intimidate Americans who serve on the juries!
I’m voting Democrat because I believe in a FREE government health care system. I believe doctors, nurses, hospitals, drug companies, etc. will gladly donate their time, products, services, facilities, etc. for FREE and that will be a better system.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe in and support trial lawyers, frivolous lawsuits and outrageous jury verdicts.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe 9/11 was an inside job to con the American people to go to war for oil.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe social security is solvent and that there is a social security lock box and I don’t believe social security is a Ponzi scheme.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe Gay Marriage should be the law of the land and will probably produce better children.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe English should not be the official language of the United States. I don’t mind pushing one for English when I use the phone.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe partial birth abortion is okay but water boarding a terrorist is disgusting.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe having a domestic terrorist like Bill Ayers as a close friend is a good thing. It allows for great relations with foreign terrorists.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe MOST AMERICANS are bitter and cling to their guns and religion. Let’s rid our country of guns and religion!
I’m voting Democrat because I believe illegal aliens deserve all the rights of ordinary Americans plus some additional rights Americans do not have.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe groups like ACORN who register felons, drug addicts, wino’s, homeless drifters, illegal aliens, dead people, children, fictional Disney characters, etc. makes my vote count more.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe celebrating the winter solstice shows compassion for the small minority of people that do not celebrate Christmas.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe hard core criminal murders and rapists deserve life and that the innocent unborn deserve death. It’s a choice I can live with.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe Bush caused Hurricane Katrina and he blew-up the levies in the ninth ward of New Orleans.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe our soldiers are AIR RAIDING villages and killing innocent people.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe sex in the Oval Office with an intern is a private matter and that everybody lies under oath about sex.
I’m votin Demokrat becuse I wus edumkated at a publick sckrool. I lik da NEA!
I’m voting Democrat because I believe that any one who is not partaking in one of the many wonderful government programs obviously has too much money and should pay higher taxes.
I’m voting Democrat because when we pull out of Iraq the terrorists will be happy and now think of us as good people.
I’m voting Democrat because freedom of speech is fine as long as it does not offend people. Can’t we all just get along?
I’m voting Democrat because I believe oil companies’ profits are wrong. I believe higher taxes on oil companies will produce lower prices at the pump.
I’m voting Democrat because I believe we need to rid ourselves of dependency on foreign oil, BUT I AM AGAINST offshore drilling for oil and natural gas, drilling in Anwar, building nuclear power plants and clean coal technology.
And finally, I’m voting Democrat because I believe Reverend Wright when he said “GODDAMN AMERICA” and “OUR CHICKENS ARE COMING HOME TO ROOST”. Hey let’s make a comfortable nest for those chickens!
Why are you voting Democrat?

1) VOTER REGISTRATION fraud (easily attempted, but rarely successful without political involvement, such as the Republican attempts in 2004 in Ohio). and
2) VOTER fraud (nearly impossible, because you don’t even get near a voting booth without ID matches to name, signature, and address)(although that didn’t prevent Jeb Bush’s complicity in the “hanging chad” state of Florida)?

Average American Mom (Oct 17, 2008 2:05:45 PM), what Republican special interest group blog did you copy that from? I want to know where you got it, so I can go over there and point out that Sarah Palin and her daughter both committed a mortal sin, that of fornication, yet Palin believes that OTHER women shouldn’t have the right to decide about conditions that involve their health or even their life, or to be able to LEGALLY seek treatment for those conditions.
I also want to go over there and point out that John McCain, maimed when he crashed one of those five fighter jets he once piloted in the Vietnam War, came home and saw that his wife was also severely injured in a car accident — what did he do? He repudiated her, moved out, had an affair, and married the object of that affair (who just happened to be insanely rich).
Such fine upstanding people. You want these people to lead our country, after 8 years of being led by a greedy big-money panderer to special interests. Frying pan, meet fire.

John McCain and Sarah Palin have worked hard in their lives. Probably a lot harder than some of the people making negative comments here.
If the taxes are raised on big oil companies who do you think is really going to pay those taxes? You are, that’s who. They will just raise the pump price, it is that simple.

I don’t buy this stuff about “Palin pushing Biden out of the media” because she is a rock star (at least to republicans). The liberal media is just trying to bash Palin as much as possible with every scandal they cam manufacture or exaggerate. The media likewise is going out of their way to avoid showing Biden’s gaffs. Just watch when something comes out about Palin (or supposedly comes out – or maybe just manufactured); it will stay in the news for at least a week (maybe two), and be reported repeatedly, sometimes ‘on the hour every hour’. When something comes out about Biden it might last a day, and be reported very sporadically at best. The media also goes back on Palin’s history as much as possible, but how much have we heard about Biden’s plagiarism, or embellishing his academic record. —Some might throw in the excuse that those happened 15-20 years ago, however there are many YOUNG people who plan to vote this time (who never voted before) who do not know of Biden’s past. Should they not be informed as much about Biden’s past as Palin’s ?? (the media will go back in time 20 or even 50 years when it suites them).—
This type of ‘Repetition’ of Palin’s “supposed” past and hiding Biden’s is what the old Soviet Union used to do. It is called PROPOGANDIZING………………..
Tina Feign’s non-stop incriminations are a very good example of this (which poles have shown indoctrinate feeble minds). Maybe they should also have Barbara WaWa (and some of the others from The ‘Bitch’ View) there and she could show her ill-tempered bias against McCain again. Then again Barb is SO OLD she would just make SNL look as out of touch as they really are !!!

As much as I don’t like McCain, that alone is not the reason for being against the Republican ticket. Only someone who cannot see that McCain is 72 years old with a serious medical history that doesn’t go away while Palin bides her time waiting to become the next President. Surely, there is not one living person, Democrate, Republican, or Independent that can honestly say that Palin is a good choice and qualified to be President in the absence of McCain. This is the most important, most critical, and most demanding job in the world. Not someone that points to lipstick, being a hockey mom, and having Todd doing all her backroom dealings. This is not Alaska, not even close to comparison. Does anyone really believe that Palin is the best person to hand over the vast nuclear arsenal of this country to? And that in a major crisis, she would make a well thought out decision base on her knowledge and experience? People understand this…none of the Generals, nor any advisor is going to make the decision or not make the decision to launch a nuclear strike, that decisions rest soley on the the President. Do you really want Palin or her shadow husband Todd to be that person to make that critical decision? Just think about that. No intelligent person would agree to that scenerio. And that is what is the most single issue of this election. It not only means everything about our economy, about health care, and every other issue being discussed now, but because it means life and death. Life and death for millions and possibly our own existence and country. This may be raw, but it is real and frightening.

Dole went on SNL – Clinton played sax on late night TV. It’s what politicians do. Think of the ‘free’ media exposure? And since McCain/Palin campaign isn’t taking campaign contributions from Muslim countries (like Obama), they have to get all the free press they can.
For all those who think they are smarter than Palin – try running for Governor, getting elected, and having approval ratings anywhere near her 80%. How many of you can rattle off the names of foreign leaders when asked? McCain and Obama have been ‘studying’ for a couple years now – she was picked relatively quickly. She’s a smart lady and a quick study. At least we know she isn’t owned by any other countries.

I am in Iraq as I write. I am in Mosul where the U.S. Army killed the #2 Al Queda leader twelve days ago. No, he was not in Afghanistan where Obama said all the terrorists are.
I like McCain and Palin because they have guts and integrity. Some of you people make me sick to my stomach. I have more respect for some of the insurgents I am fighting than I do for some of you gutless wonders. There are a lot of spoiled brats in the U.S. People who won’t get off thier fat ass to do anything for anybody, but are quick enough to point fingers at George Bush.
I was also here in Iraq two years ago when the democrats took over congress. We would go in the chow hall every day and they were on the TV blowing about how they were going to make everything better. So what the hell have they been doing these past two years?
The war here got better-thanks to the likes of McCain, and yes,Bush. No thanks to Obama and the democrats.
And please don’t give me that old spill about how you democrats love us, and respect us, and want us to be safe, and how we got into a war we should not have been in. We came here to get rid of a brutal dictator, and we did it. And while we were at it, we got rid of some terrorists too. And you know what?, we still are.
No thanks and no true support from many democrats. But don’t you worry, we will keep fighting and doing what we do so that you can get your fat lazy ass in your car and go pick up dinner somewhere, because you are too lazy to cook, and while you are out you can gripe with all your worthless friends about all the things you think you don’t like about Sarah Palin and John McCain.

MK: “I am in Mosul where the U.S. Army killed the #2 Al Queda leader twelve days ago.”
MK, I’m a retired Marine, so you can bet I support our military. The guy killed was the #2 in an organization called “al Qaeda in Iraq,” which has little to do with al Qaeda.
It was an ad hoc Sunni insurgent group that named itself after the parent al Qaeda because at the time al Qaeda’s popularity, the group believed, would better assist their recruitment efforts in Iraq.
And being in Iraq, you know that.

Shouldn’t Sara Palin address issues on shows like ” meet The Press”. ‘Face the Nation”, and “This Week” before she starts the entertainment circuit? We Americans should demand more information from this person who has been kept away from the press. If she goes on Saturday Night Live before she sits down with a Sunday Morning Political Discussion she will prove she is all hype and no substance. When was the last election where the VP candidate skipped these shows? My guess is that she would be the first and probably the last.

“But none of them have the impact of the true-life zinger we have for Obama: Socialist.”
Can you please describe this term for me? What is the biggest “socialist” program in America? the military which is apparently the only thing Republicans support in order to really be American. The police, firefighters, public schools, libraries, parks, etc. all socialist programs. The money you got from Bush as a stimulus package is also a socialist program. So yes, please keep using that “offensive” term. At least you will learn what it means one day.
For the record, McCain passed the 700 billion package and now wants to buy bad mortgages for you to pay for them with taxes (well wait, he wants to freeze spending but also spend on everything that costs big money). Oh and paying for congress and a president means that he will be paid with a socialist program.

Also, MK, you know that the story about why things really changed in Iraq.
Actually maybe you don’t, being in the Army in Mosul. I remember from Desert Storm how I got back and encountered people everywhere who knew more about the broader war than I did, being focused on local situations wherever I happened to be – in my case, the elbow up into the al Wafra oilfields in Kuwait, and eventually Kuwait City.
The successes in Anbar were due to basically a blowback by local Sunnis against al Qaeda in Iraq. A grudge had been building for some time, and the Marines tried to exploit that by talking directly with tribal leaders, etc. The last straw was when word got around the foreigners were demanding women to marry. What resulted was the Sunni Awakening, which basically was a euphemism for the locals deciding the foreign insurgents were worse than us.
In Baghdad, the successes are less clear in terms of what to credit. We had more forces there. We also had Sadr asking his followers to lay down their arms. My guess is the Iranians influenced him in the same direction, after watching the Sunnis change. The risk for Sadr was having the situation develop into strictly a U.S. v Shia fight, which he and Iran didn’t want.
Then there’s also the fact that whatever civil war-like things that were happening had kind of exhausted themselves on a local level. Mixed neighborhoods no longer were mixed, with people pretty much moving their families into safer areas.

I can’t say that I’m proud to be an American any more, not with there being so many hateful people like many of the ones who post here. If Obama should win, I’m going to start flying my state flag instead of the American flag, and I hope that others will do the same – it sure won’t be the land of the free and the home of the brave anymore!
By the way, Sarah Palin is the kind of conservative that this country needs – she’s more qualified than BO and much smarter than Biden who thinks j-o-b-s is a three-letter word and Roosevelt spoke on television. And she’s prettier than Tina Fey, too!

Gotta bag a moose, butcher it and take out at least one family of wolves from the air. Won’t it be neat? Seriously, I can’t wait to see what the writers at SNL have ready for her. The best thing we can do as citizens of the United States is laugh her into oblivion.

To those who want to bring up McCain’s age:
-McCain has released his medical records for the past 10 years. Obama has not ! What is Obama trying to hide??? Where is our ‘grand illustrious’ media on this issue. If the situation was reversed the media would plaster it all over the tube and the web (if you ever doubted the ‘media bias’ you have your absolute proof there).
-After several doctors looked over the info they found no reason McCain is not fit to serve. He has some scars from some minor surgeries, and some scars and injuries from his prison camp days but is healthy otherwise and has boundless energy. The doctors attest to the boundless energy (very telling in & of itself) and none of the other situations made him unfit. He is fit & ready to serve.
On the other hand we are not really sure about Obama. He smoked until recently, and will not release his records. What’s Up ???
Why doesn’t the media investigate? Why does the media hesitate?

The media has favored (fawned over) Obama to an unprecedented level:
-‘Skunk Man’ Jay Leno’s and ‘Snag Headed’ David Letterman’s non-stop jokes about McCain and few if any about Obama!! (I would tell Letterman where to go, Bluntly & Directly)
-The Saturday Night Live Crap-Crowd & Tina Feign’s non-stop incriminations (which poles have shown indoctrinate feeble minds).
-CNN and the rest of the liberal media ‘fawning’ over Obama in such blatant fashion.
-Hollywood entertainment type programs showing their bias for Obama, very blatantly.
(like: Ellen ‘Disingenuous’ & Barbara WaWa on The ‘Bitch’ View)
-The Oliver ‘bonnerless’ Stone movie “W”. A genuine Docu-Drama (a license to Lie) from one of Hollywood’s most ‘Irresponsible’ directors.
- Matt the ‘bitch boy’ Damon & Keith ‘GoOfy’ Olbermannn !!
- The media’s lack of willingness to follow up on Obama not releasing his medical records.
(Do we need any more proof of a Liberal, ‘Bigoted’ Media!!!)
ETC., ETC., ETC.
Is the Media Helping Obama to steal an election!!!

Without calling names – let’s see -
we are fighting a war we should have never been in – Sadam was a dictator but one we created. Osama is the end result of our training – we create these people when we need them and then turn around and try to say that they are the cause of all of the problems. But we created them……Osama knew how to bring us down – by luring us into a war we can’t win (ask Russia) and exhausting our financies – bringing down the towers was how to draw us in and boy did he….
So who is wrong here?
To our soldiers in Iraq, Godspeed to you to return home – you cannot force democracy down some countries throat — just like they can’t force there ideology down ours – no matter how big your military is ….
Obama is no more to blame for the problem of Acorn’s workers – that comes down to what has caused the problems on Wall Street – greed – it is part of all of us and given the chance 85% of us would cave into it under the guise we wouldn’t get caught.
Our Republic – yes republic is part socialism and part capitalism – we have tried to mix the best of both and if either get’s to predominat then we end up where we are now – Marxx said given enough rope the capitalist will hang themselves….truth.
Its time for change – and Obama represents the better choice now. Republicans have run us into the ground while a few profited – and how they did profit.

In her next speech, Palin should bring up this tasty serving of foreign policy irony:
Former Secretary of State Madeleine K. Albright said Thursday the Iraq war has created damaging consequences for U.S. diplomacy, but Washington should NOT agree to a specific deadline for withdrawing troops in the midst of conflict – something proposed last year by the candidate she now supports, Sen. Barack Obama.
“I never was for a date certain,” Mrs. Albright told editors and reporters at The Washington Times. “In Bosnia, we gave a date certain, and then we couldn’t get out and that undercut our credibility.”
Remember Slick Barry, it’s no longer 2006; we are winning in Iraq now.

Then again he was not so Tall, Elegant, Eloquent in the first half of the Demi-Dem primary. When the Liberal Media was ‘Fawning’ over Hillary he was Angry, Accusational, Stumbling over his Words, and Brushing chips off his Shoulders. When the Media switched it’s “Fawning Gaze” to Obama he seemed Taller and his ‘Style over Substance’ clicked more. Was that because he knew the Media and Hollywood had his back !! Many would say it is easy to look Tall, Elegant & Eloquent when you know all of your mistakes will be explained away, ignored or covered up (he once said he had visited all 57 states). Anyone could look competent under that scenario………..
If as president he is in tough, ‘behind the scenes’ negotiations will “Style over Substance” cut it then. Will the media be able to help him out of a tough jam then !!! How will they rescue, or cover up for him then !!! Will he be able to stand on his own two feet then………….

every stinkin word they force feed you.
Your probably some young, immature
person who hasn’t even lived life yet
and don’t even realize what it takes to
go through this world for years on end
doing what you are suppose to and trying
to give back and do for others. You
young (under 30) think its soo easy and
your gonna do it all better – HAH!
Listen to your elders who have been
through it and can teach you something
about what it takes to get where
McCain-Palin have with their lives.
But you all don’t know how to be tough
just to whine for more – give me, give
me. You think the world owes you – this
world doesn’t owe you sh__! Get over
yourselves!!!

I don’t understand how they can keep Palin on the ticket. She is so embarrassing. The only thing she know how to do is give a good speach and one that someone else writes for her at that. I agree, the American people and the press should demand a full interview from her. Who is Obama? The real question is who is Sarah Palin?

That ‘smart’ woman took how many years to get a Journalism degree?
I would hardly call it being jealous, more like amazed that such pathetic qualifications have become acceptable to a nation who once believed that only the best and brightest should be able to lead this country.

This is pathetic. Palin can appear on a comedy show but cannot grant an unscripted interview nor an appearance on a news program…not to mention no press conferences?? Her candidacy should be taken just as seriously as she is treating it. SNL has lost a loyal viewer for allowing her to use them as a political platform; or yet another ‘scripted’ appearance.

I’m for lower taxes and smaller government, because lower taxes are better for families, property owners, and small businesses. With lower taxes, businesses have more money to invest, hire, and provide services. Less government bureaucracy improves the business climate, promotes economic growth, and reduces unemployment.
And if we limit the scope of the federal government in accordance with the constitution, we decrease spending and reducing taxes, increasing our liberty in several ways:
(1) Liberty is increased when government is reduced to its essential and necessary functions, because there is no longer a role for lobbyists fighting to increase pork for their favorite non-essential, unnecessary programs.
(2) Liberty is increased when more government functions and decisions are handled at the state and local levels, closer to the American people.
(3) Liberty is increased when individual citizens have more responsibility and when government has less control.
(4) Limited government leads to lower taxes, and with lower taxes, liberty is increased because businesses have more of their own money to invest, hire, and provide services. Less government bureaucracy improves the business climate and promotes job growth.
(5) Limited government leads to lower taxes, which is better for families and property owners. With lower taxes, liberty is increased because individuals and families have more of their own money – increased take-home pay – for their needs: food, clothing, housing, education, health insurance, and retirement.
(6) When people are able to provide for themselves, they are more likely to achieve prosperity and less dependent on government programs. In turn, this leads to further reduction in government spending, allowing the remaining money to be targeted to legitimate needs, such as military veterans, orphans, and people with severe disabilities.

I asked my Republican brother what he thought of Palen as a possible President of the US. His response, “She’s a cutie”. My brother and MCcain are the same age. Age does not make men smarter, they just revert back to being wrinkled old letches who still go for the “cutie” cheer leaders. Voters should be afraid; very afraid of Palin, she could be one heart attack or stroke away from the presidency . As my 87 year old mother said, “I am not voting for that old fool.” I am voting for Obama. Women are not impressed with a beauty queen with an empty head, we have children and grandchildren to protect from Republican fools. I have hopes that she will catch the Hollywood bug and resign from politics.

Obama could not become the governor of Illinois, because it is easier to become a senator than becoming a governor! after all, every state has one governor and TWO senators. it should be obvious to sexists too that Gov.Palin has accomplished more in her life than Obama. and, you ageists out there, everybody gets old;you too!

This country became a big joke in the international arena thanks to Bush and if McCain gets elected with that wanna be beauty pageant it is for sure that we’ll never be the country that we were once. It is not about what media says, only small minded people like some of the posters here would think that way. No intelligent mind has to watch Palin twice to realize her head makes a hollow sound. And the white one is about to kick the bucket. Can anyone even imagine those to running the best country (let’s take votes)in the world?

It is unbelievable just how brain dead many Americans are becoming. If we don’t demand much from our leaders and ourseleves, then we won’t get much in return.
No matter how well intentioned Sarah Palin is she is not prepared to be a heartbeat away from the presidency, anyone who thinks otherwise is in denial. Really this is not even about Obama or Palin, it’s about how we as a society has shutdown our good common-sense when the facts don’t square with our ‘reality’. Up has become down and down has become up. We refuse to think, maybe we’re afraid to, perhaps it’s too painful to think anymore. I’m beginning to wonder who is actually running McCain’s campaign. Whoever it is they must be trying to undermine it, they are speaking to ‘dead America’, the great ‘waste-land (mental) that they have created, they can speak truth as loud as they want to and they know you won’t even hear them. The truth is right in your face, right before your eyes, but yet you remain blind, deaf and dumb. We’re not animals.
Having Sarah Palin on SNL without first letting the American people see her on Meet the Press or some other serious news/talk program is a cruel joke, and she is being used in the worst way. I could say much more, but with all due respect, she can provide comic relief but cannot sit down for 15 minutes to discuss the serious problems that we are facing in this country? What office is she running for again? Don’t look at Obama, look at yourselves. If you believe there is nothing wrong with this scenario, then go back to sleep, you are not among the ‘living’. Don’t even address me. Nothing I can say will reach you, because the brain you have is not even your own, someone else is the owner of your brain. It’s like a puppet on a string. This is serious. No jokes here buddy. You didn’t come into this world dead . You were alive, so how have you become so disconnected from yourself? What separates you from the rest of the creation? Give up? Your intellect. Find it and start using it, and maybe the world will begin respecting Americans again and maybe we’ll start respecting each other. The human form is the best dress for us. Peace.

I love these hypocrites that say they will not vote for Sarah Palin for Vice President because she is not qualified to be President and then tell us they are going to vote for a man with essentially the same amount of experience to be President. Sounds like sexism to me. Four years ago Barack Obama was an Illinois state senator and Sarah Palin was an Alaskan Oil and Gas Commissioner. The mere fact that Barack Obama has to defend his experience against Sarah Palin should make everyone realize that neither of them is currently qualified to be President of the United States. Maybe Sarah Palin’s real role in this campaign is to point out how utterly ridiculous it would be to elect Barack Obama President of the United States.

21 Reasons Why Sarah Palin Should NOT be Elected Vice-President of the United States :
1) She is a Woman.
2) She does not believe in killing babies, born or unborn.
3) She is NOT endorsed by Susan Sarandon, Jane Fonda, Rosie O’Donnell, Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, Geraldine Ferrara, Barbara Walters, Helen Thomas, Ellen DeGeneris, Ted Kennedy, Keith Olberman, Chris Matthews, Barbra Streisand, or David Letterman.
4) She is married to a Foreigner–a species called ‘Native American’–meaning her five children are half-breeds.
5) She has on more than one occasion expressed PRIDE in the United States of America.
6) Unlike decent, self-respecting Democrats everywhere, she has a 17-year-old daughter who became pregnant out of wedlock.
7) She is a member of the American Riflemen’s Association / actually owns firearms / and knows how to use them.
8) She has killed a moose, among other animals–and spreads the propaganda that it is hunters, through their license fees, that keep American wildlife from becoming extinct.
9) She often does her own grocery and other household shopping.
10) She drives a car and flies a plane.
11) She chose to give birth to a defective child, rather than allow a skilled abortion doctor to kill it for her.
12) She refuses to apologize for seeking the termination of an Alaskan State Trooper just because he applied a gentle taser to his 12-year-old stepson (who, of course, happened to be Gov. Palin’s nephew).
13) She is inexperienced. And she refuses to admit that her duties as the chief executive in the State of Alaska are nowhere near equal to those of a public servant who was once a Community Organizer, or that of a United States Senator who has carried the awesome burden of overseeing a staff of political appointees.
14) She has a son who is in the U.S.. Military, deployed to the Persian Gulf–probably making her prejudiced against all the peaceful Muslims in that part of the world.
15) She is on Oprah Winfrey’s ‘Do Not Invite’ list.
16) She professes to be a Christian, but has no ‘Spiritual Adviser’– even though Rev. Jeremiah Wright, who served Sen. Obama in that capacity for 20 years, is now available.
17) She isn’t really a ‘beauty queen,’ as advertised. She was only the runner-up in the Miss Alaska Contest; and Alaska is not a very populous state, anyway.
18) The Obama-Biden ticket is favored over McCain-Palin, 80% to 20%, by our friendly allies in France.
19) Her children are not properly trained in hygiene. (Did you see her 7-year-old daughter shamelessly lick the entire palm of her hand at the Convention, then use it to slick down the hair of her little brother?)
20) She is of mixed English, German, and Irish ancestry–and you KNOW you can’t trust the Limey’s, Krauts, or Micks.
21) Back to No. 1: This is the one that really galls modern, liberal ‘feminists.’ Gov. Palin is a woman, a female-type wife and mother, who shaves her legs, wears makeup, dresses smartly, often cooks meals for her family, doesn’t give a hoot about the National Organization for Women and obviously will never, ever fit in as a member of the Washington Elite.
Do we want a person like this to be the Vice President of the United States? You betcha we do !!!

It is ironic that if Barack Obama were to apply for a job with the FBI or with the Secret Service he would most likely be unable to receive the required security clearance because of his past association with William Ayers, a known domestic terrorist, and Rashid Khalidi, a former PLO official. However it is not surprising that Obama is leading in the polls. The people who get free stuff will always support the politicians who promise to give them more free stuff. When discussing the American Revolution, a Scottish-born British lawyer and writer Alexander Fraser Tytler (1747 – 1813), was attributed as saying. “A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.” Americans reached that moment with FDR’s New Deal and have been tumbling down the path of self destruction every since. Today over half of the households in America receive a regular monthly check from the government and nearly half (44%) pay no income taxes at all. Just how long do you think we can continue on this path?

Everyone in America knows that without a doubt the most vile, despicable, corrupt political organization in America is the Chicago Democratic machine and yet they have tricked nearly half of the country into supporting their slick protégé for President of the United States. ACORN has been convicted of voter fraud several times in recent years and yet the Obama campaign hired ACORN to help get out the vote. Then they have the gall to act surprised when ACORN is again accused of voter fraud. It’s like hiring a convicted pedophile to babysit your kids.

Why don’t all the news channels make a concerted effort to call Palin out to give an interview? If she refuses to do so, then they should keep hammering at this issue. If she aspires to be the next VP she should not be given a free pass. She tries to incite her worshippers by asking ” Who is Obama?” Well, I would like to know ” Who is Sarah Palin?” and also,” what goes on in that little brain of hers?”

The difference between the Democratic and Republican tickets is clear; Senators Obama and Biden have the intellectual ability, wisdom, and vision to lead our Country.
Conversely, the Republican ticket is no more than non-clever phrases and the same old political tricks and deceptive tactics they have used for years. It time to say; enough!
If Gov. Palin desires to be treated as a legitimate VP candidate, then she needs to speak to America via legitimate interviews. Without this candid conversation with America, it is obvious there is something to hide.
It is time for us all to wake-up and refuse to be herded like sheep.

Those of you who are so hard on Palin probably can’t balance a checkbook, let alone run a state. When is it that people dump all over Joe the plumber and yet get mad because Palin tried to get rid of a cop who abused an 11 year old? Go figure. She just got in this race and has had tons of pressure on her. She is smart and hasn’t had all the practice that Obama has had as he had less experience than her at one time. Thanks to the long primary, Obama got a lot of practice, he wasn’t so bright back then either.

You didn’t come into this world dead. You were alive, so how have you become so disconnected from yourself? What separates you from the rest of the creation? Give up? Your intellect. Find it and start using it, and maybe the world will begin respecting Americans again and maybe we’ll start respecting each other.
Peace.

professorj:
The problem is that John McCain may NOT have a long and happy life as president. He’s 72 and has had several bouts with cancer. And then we’d be stuck with Palin as president.
As a former Republican (who is now an independent), I was very sorry to see McCain pick someone so unqualified. That’s when he lost my vote.
I’m not a huge Obama fan — I wish he had more experience, but he has a lot more experience than Palin, a better temperament than McCain, and more brains than either.
I would go so far as to say that if McCain hadn’t picked Palin, it might be McCain who was now leading in the polls.

Bravo to average american mom. She has it exactly right. Democrats have straw for brains. As for Sarah Palin, she is an accomplished governor and a true patriot. Tina Fey has no other skill than to make fun of others that she can never aspire to be. THese hollywood elite are idots, “fabulously stupid” in fact.

Just in case you’re new here – someone here (posing as several) has about 20 browsers opened up on his old IBM tower PC and is posting all of this anti-Obama stuff on every single political blog here, CNN and MSNBC. Oh ya, and even Alaska Daily News. Its the same person – after you’ve been here for a while you will just IGNORE like the rest of us. You can spot him a mile a way by his screen names (usually female or ‘independent something’ or ‘former dem’ or a european name). The same cut & paste blah blah as well as spelling and grammar patterns – so obvious.

I can’t believe Sarah Palin called certain parts of the country UnAmerican. Look at the words she used. Pro American, Real Americans, and Best of America. What kind of Right Wing nut is Sarah Palin to be running for VP and insulting the same folks she wants to vote for her. I guess its only Obama supporters or anybody who doesn’t support their robo calls and low road campaign tactics. I think the media is taking this too lightly. Sarah Palin during a fund raiser said that only certain parts of the country are patriotic and real Americans and she’s running to be VP and proberly president. Thats very alarming and I think she needs to explain exactly which part of America does she think is UnAmerican or less patriotic. This is starting to become a narrative. On Chris Mathews today congresswoman Michelle Bockwman said that congress should be integregated on who’s American and anti-American. Now Sarah Palin is stating that only certain parts of America are Pro America. This follows 3 weeks of attacks from the Mccain/Palin campaign that questioned Obama’s patriotism. The republicans and Mccain/Palin campaign should be questioned about their patriotism its the Republican party that has made the economy worst with their deregulation and their Right Wing policies for the rich. Its the Republican Party that has us in 2 wars thats costing us Billions a month. How patriotic is the Republican Pary when the leader of their Party is leaving the country with 2 wars with no resolution, 11 trillion in debt, and a economy in turmoil? Their the ones if anybody who’s patriotism should be in quesion. I think if Mccain/Palin were in the White House the country would be worst with their radical Right Wing beliefs and their decisive nature. KEEP MCCAIN/PALIN OUT OF THE WHITE HOUSE. WHY HASN’T THE MEDIA ASK MCCAIN ABOUT HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH GORDON LIDEY? IT TOOK DAVID LETTERMAN A NIGHT SHOW COMEDIAN TO GIVE MCCAIN A REAL INTERVIEW. THE MOST EFFECTIVE INTERVIEW MCCAIN HAS HAD THROUGHOUT THIS CAMPAIGN.

Subject: Dear Red States
We’ve decided we’re leaving. We intend to form our own country, and
we’re taking the other Blue States with us.
In case you aren’t aware, that includes Hawaii, Oregon,
Washington , Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois and
all the Northeast. We believe this split will be beneficial to the
nation, and especially to the people of the new country of New
California.
To sum up briefly: You get Texas, Oklahoma and all the slave
states. We get stem cell research and the best beaches. We get
Elliot Spitzer. You get Ken Lay.
We get the Statue of Liberty. You get Dollywood.
We get Intel and Microsoft. You get WorldCom.
We get Harvard. You get Ole’ Miss.
We get 85 percent of America ‘s venture capital and entrepreneurs.
You get Alabama .
We get two-thirds of the tax revenue, you get to make the red
states pay their fair share.
Since our aggregate divorce rate is 22 percent lower than the
Christian Coalition’s, we get a bunch of happy families. You get a
bunch of single moms.
Please be aware that Nuevo California will be pro-choice and
anti-war, and we’re going to want all our citizens back
from Iraq at once. If you need people to fight, ask your
evangelicals. They have kids they’re apparently willing to send to
their deaths for no purpose, and they don’t care if you don’t show
pictures of their children’s caskets coming home. We do wish you
success in Iraq , and hope that the WMDs turn up, but we’re not
willing to spend our resources in Bush’s Quagmire.
With the Blue States in hand, we will have firm control of 80
percent of the country’s fresh water, more than 90 percent of the
pineapple and lettuce, 92 percent of the nation’s fresh fruit, 95
percent of America’s quality wines (you can serve French wines at
state dinners) 90 percent of all cheese, 90 percent of the high-tech
industry, most of the U.S. low-sulfur coal, all living redwoods,
sequoias and condors, all the Ivy and Seven Sister schools, plus
Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Cal Tech and MIT.
With the Red States, on the other hand, you will have to cope with
88 percent of all obese Americans (and their projected health care
costs), 92 percent of all U.S. mosquitoes, nearly 100 percent of the
tornadoes, 90 percent of the hurricanes, 99 percent of all Southern
Baptists, virtually 100 percent of all televangelists, Rush Limbaugh,
Bob Jones University, Clemson and the University of Georgia.
We get Hollywood and Yosemite, thank you.
Additionally, 38 percent of those in the Red states believe Jonah
was actually swallowed by a whale, 62 percent believe life is sacred
unless we’re discussing the death penalty or gun laws, 44 percent
say that evolution is only a theory, 53 percent that Saddam was
involved in 9/11 and 61 percent of you crazy bastards believe you
are people with higher morals then we lefties.
By the way, we’re taking the good pot, too. You can have that dirt
weed they grow in Mexico.
Peace out,
Blue States

From the Kansas City Star:
“Despite his age and previous health problems, McCain chose a vice presidential candidate who is so clearly unqualified for high office that the thought of her stepping into the presidency is frightening.
That irresponsible decision casts serious doubt on McCain’s judgment at this point in his political career. And over the past eight years, Americans have come to know, all too well, the high price of carelessness and ineptitude in the White House.”
The world is watching and hoping Americans will choose a president who will reach out to allies. Obama will restore America’s reputation as a land of civil liberties, educational opportunities and good faith.
The Obama-Biden ticket offers the best hope of recovering from today’s economic difficulties, reclaiming leadership in the world and moving forward to a more promising future.”

McCain’s association with Liddy isn’t news. The Chicago Tribune covered it back in May, when the Clinton campaign was roadtesting the McCain campaign’s tactics. Let’s compare:
* Bill Ayers participated in bombing a statue, the New York Police headquarters, the U.S. Capitol, and the Pentagon. G. Gordon Liddy participated in a White house plot to subvert the Constitution.
* Ayers has never been convicted or served prison time. Liddy was convicted of conspiracy, burglary, and illegal wire-tapping, was senteced to 20 years, and served 5.5 until President Carter commuted his sentence.
* Ayers is now a professor of education. Liddy is a conservative talk radio host.
* Ayers has said “we didn’t do enough” to stop the Vietnam War, a statement interpreted by some to mean he thinks he should have set off more bombs in the early 1970s. In 1994, after the feds stormed the branch Davidian compound in Waco, Liddy said on his radio program, [sorry, rough language coming] “Now if the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms comes to disarm you and they are bearing arms, resist them with arms. Go for a head shot; they’re going to be wearing bulletproof vests. … Kill the sons of bitches.” (And as for Liddy on Hitler….)
* Ayers and his wife hosted a campaign event at his house for Obama in 1995. Liddy hosted a campaign event for McCain in 1998.
* Ayers donated $200 to Obama in 2001. Liddy has given at least $5,000 to McCain over the years, including $1,000 this year.
* Senator Obama has called Ayers’ terrorist acts “despicable” and condemned them. Senator McCain appeared on Liddy’s radio show last November and said, “I’m proud of you, I’m proud of your family…. It’s always a pleasure for me to come on your program, Gordon, and congratulations on your continued success and adherence to the principles and philosophies that keep our nation great.”
I’m not going to bother with quantifying the sins of Ayers and Liddy. And please note, I offer no defense of Ayers here. Go ahead, assume the worst of both men, and you can say, as does Chapman, that each man “back in the 1970s, extolled violence and committed crimes in the name of a radical ideology — and… has never shown remorse or admitted error.”
It’s simple: if you think Ayers is a voting issue, then you must think Liddy is a voting issue. Have fun voting for Barr or Nader.

To all those that live in cities across the nation and in major suburban areas, Sara Palin does not think we are real Americans. Never mind that we send our families to wars, never mind that we pay the highest taxes, never mind that we would never call any other person of this county a non-American, It doesn’t count according this this hill billy sucking up POS that thinks she knows anything. She is nothing but a very ignorant and stupid person that thinks America is her new toy.

This might turn out to be one of the worst decisions Poor Sarah has made. Why would she take this risk? I don’t think SNL is in this to try and make her look good. It is a set-up! Lorne Michaels is taking advantage of child sarah. Unless she brings her kids on stage also – which i wouldn’t put past her.

Palin is already a complete farce, she can’t undo the damage she’s done to her party and the disservice that she and McCain have provided for the citizens of the United States. SNL or no, America is already a parody in the eyes of the world, we all have to learn to laugh at ourselves at this point! Or vote to make a difference!
Check out the editorials written by the scores of newspapers who are endorsing Mr.Obama that blame the Palin pick for being part of the reason why they are not endorsing McCain. For instance:
From the Philedelphia Enquirer:
“More troubling was McCain’s selection of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate. This blatant overture to women voters and evangelical Christians who share her views on abortion backfired when Palin in interviews proved she is not prepared to be a heartbeat away from the presidency.”
The Kansas City Star declared: “Despite his age and previous health problems, McCain chose a vice presidential candidate who is so clearly unqualified for high office that the thought of her stepping into the presidency is frightening. That irresponsible decision casts serious doubt on McCain’s judgment at this point in his political career. And over the past eight years, Americans have come to know, all too well, the high price of carelessness and ineptitude in the White House.”
The Salt Lake Tribune complained that “out of nowhere, and without proper vetting, the impetuous McCain picked Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate. She quickly proved grievously underequipped to step into the presidency should McCain, at 72 and with a history of health problems, die in office. More than any single factor, McCain’s bad judgment in choosing the inarticulate, insular and ethically challenged Palin disqualifies him for the presidency.”

Note that the newspaper editorials above were written by people with no experience managing a business, being a mayor orbeing a governor. In fact they no experience at all outside the cloistered liberal-mind-meld worlds of journalism and acadeemia. They are probably the least qualified people in America to judge palin’s qualifications.
And you notice that they don’t mention her record – they can’t beause it might lead to changing their opinion of her, which would led to their ex-communication from the club. You should ask yourself this; why do people attack hher never do so on the basis of fact? The only answer can be fear. What is it about them leads them to fear what she stands for: the core values that have made this country great – the core values that have made America a great nation when those values are under attack:
Free Market/Pro-growth economic policies
Having a strong national defense so we can stand up to regimes that threaten our interests and allies rather than appease them.
Supporting the values that are common to all religious traditions; respect for life and the family and for helping the less fortunate.

For all you lovers of McCain that beleive he loves the military and the veterans, please check current records for your facts.
Do your homework – smart ones – go look at the report card given to all in Congress!!
McCain got a D rating…not in economics either! In supporting bills being passed in support of veterans who are fighting the false war of the Bush/McCain era.
Go on people…go check out your own republicans, democrats, and independent senators and representatives.
McCain says at every rally, “I love veterans and they love me!” And you all beleive it because he was a POW. NOT! He couldn’t be bothered to show up and vote for 6 bills. And didn’t want our veterans to have educational benefits after doing their time in Iraq or Kuwait…cause they might not
re-enlist during a war!? They might want to go to college, too?
I dare each and every one of you to put your fingers where your mouths are…go to the vets website…
http://www.veteranreportcard.org
and while you are checking out the presidential candidates …ck out your own state’s representatives and how they are supporting the couragous service members in danger as we squabble about who hates which candidate more.

Well you just summed up everything Palin is not. Religous, nope. If she were any type of Christian she wouldn’t be spewing the crap that comes out of her mouth.
What will she do if we are threatened? Give them a wink and a smile and say ” U betcha?
Her values, if she has any, do not represent thinking Americans views. If that is the type of values you were taught as a child no wonder this country is in the shambles it it in.
It’s the narrow mindedness of the Republicans not to tolerate anyone who is not white and not a “Christian”. You people make me ill with your “Christian” bs. Bunch of hypocrites.

Palin is better qualified than Obama or Biden and can soon catch up to McCain. What she has done for Alaska is what the US and the world need: financial reform and better regulation of the oil companies, as described in an excellent article, “Palin governs from the center.”

when SLP’s best lines are ‘live from New York’ and later sitting on the set ‘groving’ to a Palin rap … and appearring on an episode hosted by the actor who portrayed ‘W’ in the recently released ‘bio’ of the current president … well, does that sound a ‘vice presidential’ caliber?
A quote attributed to Abe Lincoln … better to remain silent and let people assume you are a fool than to speak up and erase any doubt …
perhaps would have been better for SLP4VP to have taken a pass on the SNL invite.

You know, I can understand if you for one reason or another do not support the Republicans or even just Sarah Palin, but why must you stoop so low to critize her personally. You don’t vote on an election based on the sound of someone’s voice or because she was prom queen or not, those personal attacks are ridiculous. Stick to the issues of the government that really matter. You can vote whatever you want but there is no reason to these personal attacks. They in essence are childish and irrelevent. Reading some of these reminded me of grade schoool when you decided you didn’t like someone because of what they looked like. Are you really that petty. We are in trouble if that is they way people are voting instead of policies, moral issues and other more important things than just not liking the way someone speaks. I’m more concerned with the moral issues and the socialist promises we are hearing. We live in a democracy and we need to make sure we continue to.
Posted by: marta | October 19, 2008, 8:03 am 8:03 am
Marta, you do bring up excellent points about personal attacks, but I would also suggest this is a case of “reap what you sow”. It is clear that Sarah was enlisted not for her experience or awareness of national issues, but for folksy appeal, public speaking skills, and gender. Her status as mom, as beauty queen, as hunter etc.., have all been suggested as prime attractants to the desired demographic. At no point, are we offered substance or thoughtfulness. This reminds me heavily of some of the recent celebrities who try to attract attention through antics, and then cry foul when the attention may go overboar or not in the desired direction. This is why arguements over Biden focus upon some of his foreign policy positions in Iraq, and discussions of Sarah focus upon whether she does a comedy sketch as opposed to seriously engaging the American people on issues of substance.

Average American Mom: Sarcasm is no substitute for actual understanding, but I do agree with you on one thing. “Let’s rid our country of guns and religion!” Now if we could get rid of those two things, we’d have freer, better, longer, less violent lives.
And just to be fair, I’ll tell you why I’ll vote Republican:
1. Slavery was good for the Romans. It must be good for us.
2. Stupid plebs will vote themselves ‘bread and circuses’, so it’s not like we could tell them the truth about things. When we’re caught lying or abusing power, we’ll just scare the plebs with some barbarian.
3. The financial disaster caused by our not having to follow rules anymore…. that volcano is never going to blow. (Think.. Vesuvius.)
4. The plebs’ boy wants to lower the number of unwanted pregnancies, help people not have abortions of any kind! There’s going to be more plebs! Better scare them with something ugly.
5. Those idiot workers are too slow to understand whats good for them! We’re safe!

RE SP’s NC Commnets on knowing who lives in the pro-patriotic parts of America
OK, Gov, you have really overstepped the line. I come from a small NC town in the Piedmont section, lived in the hollars in the mountains, went to school at UNC-CH, have many relatives there still–all over the state. And YES, lots of them are plumbers with full accreditation! At least four cousins and an uncle. None of them is Joe sixpack– they wouldn’t think of drinking. And BTW lots are named Joe!! And because NC was historically a very democratic populist state–we are all democrat and have been so for about 150 years.
SO watch your step when you indicate that only “pockets” of small town American are patriotic and you know who they are! I am a pro-peace and pro-Americans patriot, who like my plumbing relatives think being democratic is using your brain to critique and your mouth to express your opinion rather than pour beer down it.
I think you would benefit from the tart funny comment of my Aunt Nelle, who was blind and a caseworker for the blind in NC for 40 years. When speaking of those with rigid closed minds she said, ” Her mind is so narrow her ears rub together.”
My NC small town plumbing store keeping farming family, helped bring peaceful integration to Mecklenburg Charlotte school district, taught in segregated schools fighting the segregation, fought for the rights of the disabled, my grandmother fought for the right to vote, and they opposed a Scopes Monkey Trial law in NC, among other public democratic actions. So when you think you know who lives in a small NC town and who is patriotic and who is not…watch out. Are your ears rubbing together?
