Sarah Palin won the debate with Joe Biden because she came across as the Ronald Reagan candidate.
Like Reagan, Palin projected pride in America, optimism about the future, and determination to reform the government and vanquish our enemies.
Like Reagan, she was at times self-deprecating. Like Reagan, she took a swipe at the mainstream media. And like Reagan, she made it clear she was not afraid to take views contrary to conventional wisdom in Washington.

She is absolutely right, Obama is not qualified to run the country.

Grow up lady, you want to be VP, then act like it and get some knowledge about anything!, Here is a hint the next time they ask you what supreme court case you oppose, say, I am really glad that they overturned Plessy v. Ferguson. (now you will have to do some research to see what later case overturned it, but I cannot help out with everything). My 5th grade niece is more qualified than Palin. She has no creditibility or qualifications or knowledge to call anyone not qualified. She needs to handle the Abuse of Authority charges against her and her stealing tax payers out of thousands of dollars by paying herself per diems while staying at home. Dee Dee Lynn – Not qualified to judge? Doesn’t being a citizen and voter qualify each of us to determine who is qualified and who is not? First and foremost, Palin, like you and I, is a voter – she has every right to question Obama’s qualifications, just as you have the right to judge Palin’s qualifications or anyone else’s. Some voters feel it’s their duty to judge the candidates.

It is just amazing that the Republicans are ‘happy’ that Palin didn’t make a fool of herself. They call that ‘success’. We have a lot to look forward to with Palin as VP. If Obama is so opposed to the Iraq war, why did he choose a VP who supported the resolution which gave Bush the authority to go to war?

Obama has no experience at governing, managing, no international experience, no military experience.
His background is weak because he has never had to earn his way: Private school education on scholarship (never in the public schools). Harvard Law scholarship (his father went there). Book deal upon graduation. Offered University of Chicago professorship although he had not published a single legal paper. Wife Michelle must have been supporting him financially when he was doing “community service” (e.g. registering people to vote for him). State senator, but his campaign states that no records remain. Wins US Senate seat but neglects duties in order to run for president. Resko helps finance his house purchase. This guy has had an easy life. Strangely, he’s never done anything remarkable even though he had so many opportunities.
If Obama wins, he’ll be the first president with zero experience.

Palin opposes abortion even in the case of rape or incest, even if the victim is a child. She has a history of making rape victims pay for their own forensic rape kits. Palin fired the Wasilla librarian because she refused to censor books in the way Palin wanted her to. Decide for yourself, if McCain dies – do you want her running the country? Should I say do you want her ruining the country?

I am having a little trouble with the whole concept of a Sarah “six pack” Palin – and especially that she introduced this term herself – given her close association with an Assemblies of God church. I have attended AG churches myself, and I count AG pastors among my friends. I have never known an AG church where ANY consumption of alcoholic beverage – or even suggestion of same – was not deeply frowned upon. “Sipping Saints” is the common term used from the pulpit.
For Palin herself to use the term “six pack” in an appeal to commonality with average middle-class Americans seems either ludicrous, inconsistent, or else just plain disingenuous. Palin did better than I thought she would. I have to give her credit for performing as she did. But she failed to address almost every question posed to her. I find it hypocritical for those same people who find Palin hokey and not prepared to be VP, to at the same time think that Obama is qualified to be President based on his experience. Being a community organizer for ACORN and the likes, and being a lawyer who studied constitutional law (you know how many of those there are?), doesn’t automatically give you the experience to be president. What’s fascinating about the comments made by the Palin supporters is that they actually think Palin said something in the debate. It also seems to be accurate that in every conflict the US has ever engaged in, that has happened. It’s why they say there are victims of war. It’s not good, it’s not pretty, but it happens. And to state that it happens and happened in this case is accurate. It hasn’t in the past qualified as a war crime and Obama didn’t state that it was equal to war crimes. That’s a fabrication on the part of the McCain campaign.
Anyone who thinks that just because the good ole’ USA was the one dropping the bombs that it HAD to be a valid war plan is just plain nuts! The USA makes mistakes just like every other country. It’s the greatest country in the world, it’s the only place I ever want to live, but it’s run by humans and humans make mistakes. Yes, even our military leaders make mistakes. To claim that a mistake was made by carrying out this method of warfare, in that country, at that time and relying on that course of action to gain a victory is fair game. Of course when the you can’t win on the real issues, you resort to waving the old red,white and blue and charge the opposition is waving the white flag and that everyone who doesn’t agree with you is unpatriotic and unfit for service. Or, that because one questions the methods or reasons for fighting a war, then they don’t support the troops. I am a Veteran and I admit I am in the tank for Obama/Biden. I served three seperate deployments during OIF. I was there in Qatar in March 2003 when the battles started in Iraq…wondering why we going to Iraq. My brother is in the Amry and in the past fives, he has been home a total of ONE YEAR…a few months here and few months there. That kind of strain on family is unimaginable to anyone who has not had to deal with it. Our military deserves better and McCain has not supported the military or veterans. He uses the cause of the military and veterans to serve his own political gain and to make it seem like he cares. If he cared, he would vote for Veteran causes and not vote against them. I supported McCain in 2000. So I, at one time had support and respect for the man. McCain has sold himself out and he has sold out the veterans plenty of times.

Fact of the matter is Sarah did a wonderful job and I watched the whole debate and I did not see that she was reading off of notes. Positive thing
A couple of times she deflected questions that I felt she didn’t answer and talked about something else. Negative thing.
She was positive about what she felt McCain and she could do for the country going forward. She kept Biden off balance by bringing him back to the talking point that he needed not to look at the past 8 years of the Bush presidency and reiterate the failings but to paint the vision of Obama and him as to how they could make it better.
I think she could have pounded more on the economy that so many Repubs were sounding the trumpet on the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac fiasco and Frank and Dodd were denying any problems with those organizations while they were lining their pockets with pac money from them. By the way, the third most donated monies went to Obama from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. And he has the gall to say that he tried to investigate them. LOL!
When the committees get around to investigating it, it will be curtains for Raines, Dodd, Frank, Obama and so many Dems.

Here’s something you dimwit McCain and Palin supporters can be enlightened with:
Gov. Sarah Palin lives by the maxim that all politics is local, not to mention personal.
So when there was a vacancy at the top of the state Division of Agriculture, she appointed a high school classmate, Franci Havemeister, to the $95,000-a-year job. A former real estate agent, Havemeister cited her childhood love of cows as one qualification for running the roughly $2 million agency.
She was one of at least five high school classmates Palin hired, often at salaries far exceeding their private sector wages.
When Palin had to cut the 2007 state budget, she avoided the legion of frustrated legislators and mayors. Instead, she huddled with her budget director and her husband, Todd, who is not a state employee, and vetoed millions of dollars of legislative projects.
But an examination of her swift rise and record as mayor of Wasilla and then governor finds that her visceral style and penchant for attacking critics — she sometimes calls local opponents “haters” — contrasts with her carefully crafted public image.
Throughout her career, she has pursued vendettas, fired officials who crossed her and sometimes blurred the line between government and personal grievance, according to a review of public records and interviews with 60 Republican and Democratic legislators and local officials.
Still, Palin has many supporters. As mayor, she paved roads and built an ice rink, and as governor, she has pushed through higher taxes on the oil companies that dominate one-third of the state’s economy. She stirs deep emotions.
“She is bright and has unfailing political instincts,” said Steve Haycox, a University of Alaska history professor. “She taps very directly into anxieties about the economic future.
“But,” he added, “her governing style raises a lot of hard questions.”
Loyalty and secrecy
Palin declined to grant an interview for this article, and she did not respond to written questions. The McCain-Palin campaign responded to some questions on her behalf and that of her husband, while referring others to the governor’s spokespeople, who did not respond.
Interviews show that Palin runs an administration that puts a premium on loyalty and secrecy. The governor and her top officials sometimes use personal e-mail accounts for state business; dozens of e-mail messages obtained by the New York Times show that her staff members studied whether that could allow them to circumvent subpoenas seeking public records.
Rick Steiner, a University of Alaska professor, sought the e-mail messages of state scientists who had examined the effect of global warming on polar bears. (Palin said the scientists had found no ill effects, and she has sued the federal government to block the listing of the bears as endangered.) An administration official told Steiner that it would cost $468,784 to process his request.
When Steiner finally obtained the e-mails, through a federal records request, he discovered that state scientists had in fact agreed that the bears were in trouble, records show.
“Their secrecy is off the charts,” Steiner said.
Legislators are currently investigating accusations that Palin and her husband pressured officials to fire a state trooper who had gone through a messy divorce with her sister. The governor denies the accusation. But interviews make clear that the Palins draw few distinctions between the personal and the political.
Last summer, state Rep. John Harris, GOP speaker of the House, got a call from Todd Palin. The governor’s husband sounded edgy. Todd Palin wanted to know why Harris had hired John Bitney as his chief of staff. Bitney was a high school classmate of the Palins and had worked for Palin. But she fired Bitney after learning that he had fallen in love with another longtime friend.
“I understood from the call that Todd wasn’t happy with me hiring John and he’d like to see him not there,” Harris said.
“The Palin family gets upset at personal issues,” he added. “And at our level, they want to strike back.”
Laura Chase, the campaign manager during Palin’s first run for mayor in 1996, recalled the night the two women chatted about her ambitions.
“I said, ‘You know, Sarah, within 10 years you could be governor,’” Chase recalled. “She replied, ‘I want to be president.’”
As mayor of Wasilla, Palin presided over a city rapidly outgrowing itself. Septic tanks had begun to pollute lakes, and residential lots were carved willy-nilly out of the woods. She passed a road and sewer bond, cut property taxes but raised the sales tax, and loosened the reins on enforcing zoning laws.
And, her supporters say, she cleaned out the municipal closet, firing veteran officials to make way for her own team.
But there was a human cost. The mayor quickly fired the town’s museum director, John Cooper, saying she was eliminating the job. Later, she sent an aide to the museum. “He told us they only wanted two,” recalled Esther West, one of three employees, “and we had to pick who was going to be laid off.”
The three women quit as one.
Days later, Cooper recalled, a vocal conservative, Steven Stoll, sidled up to him. Stoll had supported Palin and had a long-running feud with Cooper. “He said: ‘Gotcha, Cooper. And it only cost me a campaign contribution,’” Cooper said.
Stoll did not recall that conversation, although he said he did contribute to Palin’s campaign and was pleased that she fired Cooper.
Palin, meanwhile, imposed a gag order on city employees, demanding that they not talk to the press. And she used city money to buy a white Suburban for the mayor’s use — employees sarcastically called it the mayor-mobile.
The new mayor also tended carefully to her evangelical base. She appointed a pastor to the town planning board. And she began to eye the library. Witnesses and news accounts state that Palin asked the librarian whether she would take books off the shelves. The McCain-Palin presidential campaign says Palin never advocated censorship.
In 1995, Palin, then a councilwoman, told colleagues that she had noticed the book “Daddy’s Roommate” on the shelves and that it did not belong there, according to Chase, then on the council, and Stein, who was mayor at the time. Chase read the book, which helps children understand homosexuality, and said it was inoffensive; she suggested that Palin read it.
“Sarah said she didn’t need to read that stuff,” recalled Chase, who has become disenchanted with Palin.
Reform crucible
Restless ambition defined Palin in the early years of this decade. She finished second in the 2002 GOP primary for lieutenant governor and applied to fill the seat of U.S. Sen. Frank Murkowski when he ran for governor.
Murkowski appointed his own daughter, but as a consolation prize he gave Palin the $125,000-a-year chairmanship of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, which oversees oil and gas drilling.
Palin discovered that state Republican leader Randy Ruedrich, a board member, was conducting party business on state time and favoring regulated companies. When Murkowski failed to act on her complaints, she quit and went public.
The Republican establishment shunned her. But her break with the oil producers catapulted her into the public eye.
“She was honest and forthright,” said Jay Kerttula, a former state senator from Palmer and a Democrat.
Palin entered the 2006 gubernatorial primary as a formidable candidate.
In the middle of the primary, a conservative columnist, Paul Jenkins, unearthed e-mails showing that Palin had conducted campaign business from her mayor’s office. Palin handled the crisis like a street fighter.
“I told her it looks like she did the same thing that Randy Ruedrich did,” the columnist recalled. “And she said ‘yeah, what I did was wrong.’”
Jenkins hung up and decided to forgo writing about it. His phone rang soon after.
A reporter from Fairbanks, reading from a Palin news release, demanded to know why Jenkins was “smearing” her. “Now I look at her and think: ‘Man, you’re slick,’” he said.
She won the primary.
Not deeply versed in policy, she skipped some candidate forums in the general election campaign; at others, she flipped through handwritten color coded index cards strategically placed behind her name tag.
Her showman’s instincts rarely failed.
“She was fresh and she was tomorrow,” said Michael Carey, a former editorial page editor for the Anchorage Daily News. “She just floated along like Mary Poppins.”
New pattern in governing style
As governor, she assembled her Cabinet and made other appointments, those with insider credentials were now on the outs. But a new pattern became clear: She surrounded herself with figures drawn from her personal life — former high school classmates, people she had known since grade school and fellow churchgoers. Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell praised Palin’s appointments. “The people she hires are competent, qualified, top-notch people,” he said.
She tapped a local borough assemblyman, Talis Colberg, as her attorney general, provoking from Alaska’s legal world a bewildered question: “Who?”
The Wasilla High School yearbook archive now doubles as a veritable directory of state government. Palin appointed Bitney, her former junior high bandmate, as her legislative director and tapped another classmate, Joe Austerman, to manage the office of economic development. Previously he established an Alaska franchise area for Mailboxes Etc.
To her supporters, Palin has lifted Alaska out of a mire of corruption. She gained passage of a bill that tightens the rules covering lobbyists. And she rewrote the tax code to capture a greater share of oil and gas sale proceeds.
Yet scandals have eroded the governor’s reform credentials. In addition to the trooper investigation, lawmakers from both parties in April accused the governor of improperly culling thousands of e-mail addresses from a state database for a mass mailing to rally support for a policy initiative.
While Palin came into office promising a more open government, her administration has battled to keep information secret. The governor’s inner circle discussed the benefit of using private Web mail addresses. An assistant told the governor it appeared such e-mails sent to a private address on a “personal device,” like a BlackBerry, “would be confidential and not subject to subpoena.”
On Feb. 7, Frank Bailey, a high-level aide, wrote to Palin at her official state e-mail address to discuss appointments. Another aide fired back to Bailey: “Frank, this is not the governor’s personal account.”
Bailey sheepishly responded: “Whoops!”
Bailey was placed on paid leave; he has emerged as a key figure in the trooper investigation.
Absentee administrator
Many lawmakers contend that Palin is overly reliant on a tiny inner circle that leaves her isolated. She is often described by Democrats and Republicans alike as a leader missing in action. Since taking office in 2007, Palin has spent 312 nights at her Wasilla home, some 600 miles north of the governor’s mansion in Juneau, state records show.
As legislators debated one of her pressing priorities, some legislators became so frustrated with her absences that they took to wearing yellow “Where’s Sarah?” pins.
As Palin’s star ascends, the McCain campaign staff, as often happens, has moved to control the words of those who know her well. Last Tuesday, an official with the Wasilla Chamber of Commerce stood up and asked its members to refer all calls from reporters to the governor’s office. Councilwoman Diane Woodruff sat in the audience and shook her head.
“I was thinking, I don’t remember giving up my First Amendment rights.”

The difference between the two tickets could not be more clear: you either want more palpable nonsense and sloganeering from the same party that brought you GWB–worst president in the history of our country–or you want reasoned alternatives that bring us back from the brink of complete ruin. It really is that simple. If you wish to hear Palin’s bubble-headed b.s. “talking points” which pay no mind to the questions actually posed, you probably want to continue to live in complete delusion as a nation. And if you’re going to punish a candidate for stating was is and was widely known to be true–i.e. insufficient ground troops in Afghanistan which then necessitates the use of a punitive air campaign—you choose falsehood over truth and you are hopelessly unwilling to face reality. The McCain campaign is betting that the Democrat’s sense of decorum will keep them from attacking the “lipstick pitbull” with the same ferocity that she does regarding Obama: in fact Biden and Obama are on eggshells so as not to pile on and be accused of sexism. I say she’s out there throwing sucker punches so she’s “fair game,” and in a gender neutral contest would be utterly dead meat by the time the likes Hillary Clinton or Claire McCaskill were done with her. About air raiding villages and killing civilians, this is EXACTLY what is causing all sorts of complications in our attempts to get the Taliban out of Afghanistan (again! — since they were driven out once and allowed to come back in when we weren’t paying enough attention). The head of our military in Afghanistan, McKiernan, by the way, knows full well that the Afghan people are tired of having bombs dropped on their civilians in an attempt to take out members of the Taliban without risking American lives. We send in planes and drones and kill people at weddings. This is not a nasty rumor, this is what is turning the Afghan people against continued American presence in their country. Sarah should wake up and maybe go back home.
And, BTW, anyone who keeps quoting that 80% approval rate in Alaska — look again. She’s down to the low 60s, and there are other governors in other states who are MORE popular than she is. The 80% is an old number — VERY old. Let it rest.

Re Cindy’s comments that Sarah is intelligent and beautiful. I’m sure she is but I don’t think she thinks we are. When you are at work or in a professional setting how do you speak? Do you say things like “heck-a” and drop the “g” in “ing” words or neglect using complete sentences? Or do you respect the setting and the people you are formally addressing by using proper english? Do middle-american’s only relate to her becaus she doesn’t speak proper english? Since when does poorly spoken “folksy” words tranlate to intelligence? I compared Palin at the debate to an actress who could easily win the Academy Award for a great performance. She memorized her lines well, dodged questions and played her role to perfection with winks and folksy words. But questions still remain in my mind: Once off script and not challenged to explain more thoughtful thoughts, would she have reverted to the S. Palin of the Katie Couric interviews? I needed to hear more substance and details not color-by-number sentences. I saw lack of substance and depth and especially lack of feelings when Biden talked about the loss of his wife. I would love to have her as my neighbor, but for such a position? NO WAY! She scares me. She even wants to extend the vice presidency power beyond what Cheney even has. Can you imagine giving power to someone who doesn’t have the capacity of intellectual curiosity and deep analysis of the issues? Biden was at a disadvantage for not being able to directly attack a woman, while she had a card blanche to do that, to use sarcasm and feminine charm. I don’t call this an equal footing, and yet, Biden was masterful in not appearing harsh or condescending and spoke with heart, authority and real knowledge of the issues. Obama/Biden all the way!

On the other hand, Palin does NOT EXPLAIN anything. She then invokes the emotional responses by making wild but shallow accusations against Obama and attempt to drive the public sentiments. The really pathetic part is that Palin probably is incapable of realizing that she is clueless. The McCain-Palin approach is like the cheerleaders in a football game; they have all the emotional slogans to drive the drunken fans into frenzy; but cheerleaders do not make great football players.
In short, the people who think would find the logical reasoning in the quietly given comments of Obama and Biden, but the people drunk on 6 packs and don’t like to think would be mindlessly attracted to the bouncing cheerleaders.

1) because they can heave a sigh of relief that she will not be a 72 year old heartbeat away from being their commander in chief,
2) because many might like ‘em a little long in the tooth and probably came to the show in hopes that she’d flash them what she gave Hamid Karzai a glimpse of at the UN
3) because along with Joe Lieberman she tops the list of unsuccessful VP candidates
they’d most love a lap dance from (don’t ask, don’t tell) and finally,
4) because all enquiring minds want to know whether, like Cher who so ably entertained the troops in the first Gulf War, she has a tattooed tuchas.
General McKiernan is too much of a gentleman, I’m sure, to want to plant his desert boot among the artwork
but he wouldn’t lose the esteem of his troops and I think history (though likely not his wife) would be willing to look the other way if he took the dance.

Fact: voted against establishing a $1billion trust fund to improve military health facilities by refusing to repeal tax cuts for those making more than $1million a year.
Fact: McCain Opposed $500 million for counseling services for Veterans with mental disorders.
Fact: Voted in support of Disabled veterans only 25% of the time from 2004-2005
Fact: McCain voted against providing automatic cost-of-living adjustments to veterans.
Fact: He opposed increasing spending on Tri-care and giving greater access to National Guard and Reservists

Obama is indifferent to the US military and national security and this should cause citizens to be concerned. Your freedom depends on the sacrifices made by the men and women of our military, whether you like it or not. Obama just might allow the US to suffer terrorism in this country than to fight terrorism overseas and expect the world to do their responsibility to assist.
Obama appeals to young and or naive Americans but he’s also attracting the worst sort of anti-American‘s, racists and groups under the assumption that he is a savior of sorts. Obama supports programs and endowments that will not benefit the United States. His youth and race may be appealing to respective citizens, but this does not qualify Obama to be the next President of the United States of America.
I am in agreement that there exists policies that need to be changed, do not make the mistake of believing that a Presidential choice can do that for this country. That is your job as a citizen of this free country. It is your responsibility as a constituent to make your state representatives aware of the policies, procedures and laws that are needed or are irrelevant. And it is his or her job to make your voice heard in Washington. If you want change in this country it’s time to return this country to a government of the people by the people. To me there is nothing worse than a citizen that complains about how this country is being ran, but does nothing about it. Don’t be a part of the problem be a part of the solution.

I am so tired of the media always taking the democrats side. No matter who is running, the media takes the liberal’s side. That is why most middle class citizens are no longer watching these news channels because we are being told what to think and not how to think. Palin did an excellent job last night as did Biden. I really don’t see a clear winner in the debate. Although Palin won the majority of the questions, Biden also won quite a few himself. I am an undecided middle class female voter who votes for the best candidate. I am educated enough to know that a lot of these promises that politicians, especially presidential candidates, make cannot be fulfilled. We are not a presdential government, we are congressional. Congress is the one in charge. The president merely puts his bills before them. Last night, Biden not only lied about his own voting record but he argued with Palin about Obama’s and McCain’s voting record, even when he was wrong. And what is really sad about that, is that most of America will go with what he said because the media has said that he won the debate and has not called him out on his lies. Do you not think that he and the political campaign stragegist know how to play the media and America’s ignorance. I ask that the media show the real facts and stop trying to tell people what to think. This country is suffering badly because of people taking advantage of America’s ignorance. And yes, politicians of both parties are to blame, but so is the media. Palin is actually wanting to go and fight for the middle class. While Obama is the same old democrats. How the heck is John McCain going to do things right, or change things for the better, if John McCain is he is NOT willing to see the facts as they are, and then make the appropriate changes to improve the situation for the better?!
What is wrong with someone stating a fact, which is what Obama did (isn’t that what we want to president to do), We want the president acknowledging the facts, stating facts, so that they can offer solutions for them, which is what Obama was doing. Obama was simple saying that an increase in US soldiers on the ground in Afghanistan, rather than having air raids, would work more effectively in getting AlQueda, and the Taliban, who are the targets.
And that having more US troops on the ground in Afghinaistan would also help to reduce the deaths of the innocent civilians, which every president sending troops into a war zone has to also be concerned about.
Obama knows that the job of a president to see the facts, to acknowledge the facts, and then make better decisions, that will IMPROVE the situtaion.
John McCain’s plans as president seems to be to bury his head in the sand, refuse to acknowledge facts, and therefore make NO changes at all to improve the situation where needed.
It is the same way that John McCain was unable to see that the economy was in crisis! How can a president John McCain make positive changes in his policy, if he is unable to acknowledge the facts??? while thousands of Iraq citizens and hundreds of U.S. troops were being killed or wounded?.
Not to mention this is an unjust, undeclared war fought without the full participation of our allies, under false
pretenses that McCain has supported from Day 1. With that said and you still believe McCain is a better choice

The White male executives who created, packaged and marketed these female stereotypes have made plenty of money as women across America spent time and money trying to become ‘Carrie Bradshaw’. But somehow, these wanna-be’s never lived it up as glamorously.
Sarah Palin is all about God, Family, Country and Shot-Guns. She is a completely New American Woman. She was not constructed by a Public Relations agency in either New York City or Los Angeles. She is not a Hollywood creation. Sarah Palin is simply a product of American small-town wholesomeness: happy childhood, hard work, self-discipline and a bright, and almost chirpy, outlook on life.
Sarah is not the high-maintenance, drama-seeking, bulimia-suffering fragile caricature of a working woman as peddled by TV.
Her husband, Todd Palin, is not a neurotic metro-sexual obsessing over the price of organic arugula, or whining about his commitment phobias to his shrink. He is a man’s man, and frankly, a woman’s man: just your regular American guy—wholesome and uncomplicated.
Sarah and Todd are American ‘retro’, but it is retro made cool all over again. They are a brand of Americana that has been tested and true—genuine, confident and mature.
Something happened to the Obama brand on the way to the election. It is as if the fashion gods decided that “Didn’t you know? No one wears Obama after Labour Day.”
Once exotic and different, the Obama brand has been turned into something weird and creepy. “Obama’s Witnesses,” “Obama’s Blue-Shirts,” “The Obama Youth Fraternity League”…Plus, after the initial swooning over him, most people still think that there’s something “off” about Obama; as if he’s hollow, or hiding something.
Today, the Obama brand has become decidedly “uncool”. That’s why people tuned out from watching him debate McCain.
On the other hand, Americans are discovering that they are intrigued by Sarah Palin. The TV pundits may want to spin things their way, but the surest measure of who won the Vice-Presidential Debate is that, at the end, the vast majority of viewers walked away from their TV sets and said to themselves, “I’d like to see more of Sarah Palin—unfiltered and uncut.”
The Obama camp may be celebrating too early. There are still plenty of people out there that haven’t made up their mind, and Obama’s triumphalism may begin to sound like arrogance, and he’s already been accused of that.
This is indeed a culturally interesting time to be an American.

I don’t see Palin/McCain creating an environment that allows many people and groups of all opinions that allows our country to heal. Obama has been doing this for many years with his community services, law practice, legislation, and via his campagn management. America and the world is watching and hoping for someone to step into the empty void of true American inginuity and diplomocy that only Obama and camp can do and has been proving capable of doing. We all need to be concerned and know more about Biden’s health. Biden had surgery twice for brain aneurysm to correct an aneurysm in an artery that supplies blood to the right side of the brain. His last surgery was in 1988 and he did not returned to the senator for 7 months after the initial diagnosis, after suffering a pulmonary embolus (blood clot in the lungs), requiring another surgery between his two brain operations.
Obama stated he did not have forgein policy experience and he had picked Baden to guide him in this area. What if Biden has another brain anesurysm and what will Obama do with no experience? What if Biden advises Obama during one of his set back. And, we are worry about McCain’s health.

So here is a short version of the two men that we have to pick in November. I would say past is very often a prediction of the future. Mccain is a man with privilege due to RICH/famous family ties, a life time risk taker as a soldier, womanizer, party boy, someone who abandoned a crippled wife and kids for a new younger and rich wife, a wife he also cheated on. This is the kind of man Palin would leave her 5 kids at home to support! Tells you what kind of judgment she has doesn’t it? Obama is a man with little privilege, just like the rest of us, a man with a unique diverse upbringing, everything he achieved is based on hardwork and commitment, a highly intelligent man, a man who cares about his people and community (even if they are poor), did community service work rather than take on jobs that could make him RICH, married an intelligent woman (not a RICH woman) who also had to work for everything she has achieved in her life, nothing was handed to her, a devoted husband, a devoted father, is also a man who believes all people of race and creed are equal and can come together and find common ground. This is the character of the two man we have to choose in November. Which man do you believe will keep their promise (like that promise of a marriage for better or worse) and which man has the integrity to do what is right for all people regardless of how much money they have or what status they have in the society? I think the answer is as clear as day and night. Obama represents most Americans and knows our struggles, McCain represents the rich and the privileged and will have a comfortable live whether you suffer or not. He will never relate to the struggles that we face every day.

I agree with one of the posts above that if you need a surgery, call the best doctors. You can take a risk and call the hockey mom instead. Nobody can stop you from doing it because it’s your right. But remember your decision will mean life or death and you only get one chance at it. As for this election, when you gamble by calling the hockey mom, you are also gambling my life and 300 million other american lives. Our decision should be to pick the most intelligent, moral, capable mentally and physically person(s) to run our country. This is NOT a reality show. This is our lives, our future, our social security, our children’s future!!!

I would much rather have a commander in chief like Barack Obama who is aware of who and where our enemies are and who listens to generals.
John McCain has grossly oversold his military experience to Americans.
McCain flew 22 missions in 5 months and did not command any of them. He never recieved an award for any of the missions. After his POW release he was placed in a low-profile desk job commanding a training squadron in Florida that was never involved in a war or conflict. After which he was appointed to his father’s former assignment the Senate Liason Office by his father’s former friend where McCain worked with legislators and lobbyists. When it became clear McCain would not be promoted to admiral because of his physical condition and lack of any major sea command…John McCain disabled out of the Navy. McCain has a long history of reckless and insobordinate military behavior. He graduated 5th from the bottom of his miliary class. He has never commanded a mission during peace or wartime. He crashed 5 Navy planes. He was a POW for 5 1/2 years which qualifies him for physical and mental therapy, not the presidency.
I’d rather have a President like Barack Obama who listens to generals and military experts, than a President like John McCain who thinks simply because he served in the military and had some irrelevant experience as an aviator for 5 months many many years ago makes him an authority and expert on the military and best prepared to lead this country during wartime.

Sarah Palin is under criminal investigation. She is of below average intelligence and is unfortunately extraordinary ambitious.

The same site notes that “Defense Secretary Robert Gates, just two weeks ago, felt compelled to apologize for casualties in Afghanistan, after an airstrike killed 90 people. By Palin’s reasoning, Gates should resign because his anti-American attitudes disqualify him from the Pentagon’s chief.”

I think it fair to observe that while Americans squabble amongst themselves in their latest two-party, lowest common denominator electoral race that now seems to substitute for democracy, the rest of the world is laughing at them for their collective cultural, political, economic and military stupidities. You know, I like Joe Biden. He’s got that whole friendly Delaware thing going on. The only problem is that the more certain he sounded during the debate, the more likely he was just making stuff up.
For example: “Afghanistan has cost less over 5 years than Iraq does in a month”? Well, that *fact* threw Palin for a real loop, didn’t it? Only it was completely made up.
McCain voted “against funding the troops just like Obama”? Pulled out of thin air (he didn’t).
Senator Biden says that the commander in Afghanistan says “we don’t need a surge” so McCain is wrong. What? McKiernan said, in essence, we need more troops and more counter-insurgency like in Iraq but they’ll be needed longer – not just surged. So, again, Joe’s got the whole thing completely backwards.
The US and France kicked Hezbollah out of Lebanon and should have put NATO troops in?? Where on earth did he get that one?? Just making stuff up so he appears “presidential” I guess.
Oh, but Palin called McKiernan “McClelland” by accident. So, clearly, he won and she is just a rank beginner.
Well, when it comes to making stuff up that you figure the American people won’t know is wrong, she is indeed a rank beginner compared to Senator Biden.
BTW – I lived in Delaware, visited Katie’s, walked the streets just like Joe Biden. My heart was warmed to hear him refer to such a wonderful place (and the food was indeed amazing). The only problem is that I can’t visit Katie’s any more because it closed YEARS ago. I guess old Joe’s got a time machine that helps him get “close to the common folk.”

The media won’t get this information for the public because they side with Obama. Then once he becomes President he’ll put this country on it’s knees and you liberals won’t care because he’s the one you voted for. Obama is going to be another Jimmy Carter.
For those of you who say Palin isn’t qualified to judge Obama; I think she has more experience than he does, plus she’s NOT running for President so she can say what she wants. Palin actually has LEADERSHIP abilities because she was Governor for two years; Obama doesn’t have squat yet people trust him to run this country.
Yes, McCain is up there an age, but I’d rather take my chances with an old experienced person for President rather than someone who has no experience AT ALL to lead.

Undoubtedly, Palin needs to spend more time on national issues, but she does not lack intelligence.
In only five weeks she was able to master new material to the point where she held her own against a 6 term senator who had the debate of his lifetime. She missed a lot of opportunities when Biden made some bogus claims, but overall she did well.
Remember when Obama started campaigning? He spent most of his time hoping and changing with a big assist from the MSM. The policies that he did put forward have morphed into policies much more in line with conservative beliefs.
He is doing a very good job of hiding his liberal record. We’ll soon see if the American people buy it.

Glenn, you’ve got to be kidding!!! Palin weighing in on who has the ability to be commander-in-chief is like a junior college quaterback being asked to step in for Bret Farve.
A President who goes to war can’t just send troops to a foreign country with a “smoke ‘em out” policy (read Bush). He must link it to a clear tactical plan and, more importantly, to a well reasoned diplomatic end game that will leave us in a stronger position materially and in terms of influence.
We are now at war on two fronts.
The Iraq war was misconcieved – there was, at best, weak intelligence (and now we learn much of it cooked-up) about WMD. Cheney has let it be known that the war was really about oil and “warning” Iran (a harder country to invade)not to mess with us. Well the oil issue has been the exploding cigar- oil prices on 9/11 were about $1.50 / gal and the economy was pretty sound. Now both are tanked. And, before the invasion, the Iraq/Iran boarder was not a pourous frontier along which terroists could move relatively easily. Now it is. and Iran is stronger by a great deal.
Afganstian- We may have missed our window of opportunity in Afganistan- after 9/11 Pakistan actually may have helped us find Bin Laden and the Afgani people were relatively welcoming to US and NATO troops. Now those conditions are not so cheery and we may end up in that extreme terrain replaying what happend to the the USSR- we certainly need more troops there.
It’s astonishing to me that the assumption on the Right, that McCain’s expereince as a jet pilot and then a prisioner (yes, a truly compelling personal story) does, in any meaningful way, give him better judgement about waging war and tying it to the real life of a foreign policy. Eisenhower ran a war, McCain got shot down.
I’d have some respect and faith in McCain if he was reflective about the poor conception and even worse adminsitration of the Iraq war- that would speak to his judgement as commander. Instead, all we hear is about the success of the surge. The surge was probably a good mid-game move, but what’s the end game. When he talks about “victory”, does he think some bad guys in black robes are going to come out of the desert and thank us for correcting their extremist behavior? Leave that myth to the neocons and Hollywood producers.
Palin has no sense of history or diplomacy, which is why she is a dangerous choice for VP. Purely embarassing, given how high the stakes are for the US at this moment in hstory. She kept complaining about Biden “looking back” during the debate. This belies keep profound lack of repect for and knowlesge of history. Without a keen sense of hisotry and a deep undersanding of the Consitution she wants to swear she will protect, all we get is a mae-up, eye-winking Amway sales woman.

WOW! What a great night! Palin was genuine, self-confident and plain-spoken. She was upbeat and projected energy and passion. She demonstrated her leadership, executive experience and results. Biden appeared knowledgeable, but plodding and boring. The more the evening progressed, the faster Biden talked and the more panicky he looked to me. He was expecting this to be a cakewalk. He was looking forward to debating a moron, and all of a sudden he realized she had taken control of the debate. She spoke about limited government, lower taxes, cutting spending, energy independence, and national and economy security. She said of his intentions on Iraq, “Your plan is a white flag of surrender.” She reminded Biden that he himself said that he’d be privileged to run on a ticket with John McCain.
Palin noted that McCain was instrumental in bringing together Democrats and Republicans to pass the bailout bill in the Senate. She took a shot at Obama for campaigning during the crisis, saying McCain “put politics aside and put America first”.
Biden, continued to deny that Obama had ever pledged to meet with Iran’s Ahmadinejad without preconditions. “This is simply not true about Barack Obama,”, pointing out that Ahmadinejad “does not control the security apparatus” in Iran. However, in a Democratic debate on July 23, 2007, Obama was asked whether he would be “willing to meet separately, without precondition, during the first year of your administration, in Washington or anywhere else, with the leaders of Iran, Syria, Venezuela, Cuba and North Korea, in order to bridge the gap that divides our countries?” Obama answered, “I would.”
Palin sharply criticized Obama for saying last year that U.S. troops in Afghanistan are “just air raiding villages and killing civilians.” Why do we never hear this quote in the mainstream media? Could it be because Obama’s troop-bashing comment is unacceptable from the Commander in Chief of our country.
I was delighted to hear Palin’s response when Biden once again attempted to tie McCain to Bush. “Say it ain’t so, Joe, there you go again pointing backward. Now, doggone it, let’s look ahead and tell Americans what we have to plan to do for them in the future.” Folksy talk, but appealing to those of us who are sick of hearing about the past and want to hear where the candidates want to take us in the future.
It is worth nothing that Gwen Ifill was a complete professional. I was concerned because she has written a book favoring Obama, but whatever her personal feelings or bias, it was not on display. I wish that were true of the rest of the media who generally act like prosecutors and vultures rather than journalists.
The media and Democrats of course will tell us that Biden won the debate, with ample contempt and derision of Palin. I can’t wait to see Saturday Night Live find a way to ridicule Palin.

As mayor, Palin left the city in debt and has only been a Gov. for one and a half years. She has no foreign policy experience whatsoever. Talk about someone who is painfully unqualified !
She first came on the national scene with an introduction of herself, talk about McCain and then went on the attack. Very poor first impression in my opinion.
The McCain campaign kept her under lock and key because they knew she would fail miserably under scrutiny, and that’s exactly what happened in her interviews as well as her record of flip-flops.
Now in the one and only VP debate Palin tried hard to hang in there. She’s a bullshitter… full of talking points. She failed mainly because she didn’t – and couldn’t – distinguish herself and McCain from the Bush administration.
Palin kept saying Biden was looking back and not to the future – but we know the real on this – McCain-Palin do not want to deal with the last 8 years of failures, and they can’t demonstrate not one thing…not one fundamental policy where they would be different from Bush. And Biden did not let her off the hook about this, not one time. He was awesome !
Palin said she wants to talk straight to the American people, but the truth is she kept lying to the American people about McCain’s record, and I am so very glad that Biden didn’t let that stand. He told us the “REAL” and “TRUE” record of McCain and he told us why McCain is so very wrong on domestic and foreign issues. Sen. Biden so expertly told us – an ddemostrated with substantive policies – how only the Obama-Biden ticket are the “REAL” change that we need. And he is correct !
Sen. Biden won this debate. He was strong and precise. He showed a command of the issues. He gave excellent facts and answers.
Sen. Obama has 20 plus years of public experience – Community Organizer, Constitutional and Civil Rights lawyer, 8 years in the Illinois State Senate, and 4 years in the U.S. Senate, working on the Foreign Relations Committee, the Veterans Affairs Committee, etc.
