Palin on Special Needs Kids
Gov. Sarah Palin and her husband Todd sat with the Chicago Tribune’s Jill Zuckman for an interesting interview.
"Palin called the disabilities issues ‘a joyful challenge.’ Todd Palin showed off photos of people with Down syndrome who have come to campaign events, and the candidate said one advocacy group sent her a bumper sticker that said ‘My kid has more chromosomes than your kid.’
"’These children are not a problem, they are a priority,’ Palin said.
"’We’re on this journey with other families,’ she said. ‘We’ll learn a lot from those other families, as they can count on us in the White House doing all that we can for them, also. It’s going to be a nice team effort here.’…
"Palin’s eyes well up as she talks about her sister’s son, Karcher, who has autism.
"’My sister and I have talked a lot about this. It makes me cry thinking about it,’ Palin said. ‘She asked with tears in her eyes, she says, "What happens when Kurt and I, though, are elderly, then what happens to Karcher?"’
"Palin calls that the story of millions of Americans. Her hope is to strengthen the National Institutes of Health ‘to make sure we’re researching everything about autism and make sure we find out what causes it.’"
A moving moment.
Do you remember earlier in this campaign when Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., said, "there’s strong evidence" that thimerosal, a mercury-based preservative that was once in many childhood vaccines, is responsible for the increased diagnoses of autism in the U.S. — a position in stark contrast with the view of the vast majority in the medical establishment?

Jake — the vast majority of the medical establishment has been wrong many, many times before. It’s called scientific progress, advancement, and discovery.
Why are prominent journalists so full of themselves and so elitist and condescending toward certain Americans? Don’t forget “The Best and The Brightest” — intellectuals fool themselves into believing their education and merit give them superior powers.
The American press corps needs a reality check, and an Obama presidency will provide plenty of that in due time.

This is one of the nicer things about Palin’s candidacy (actually, maybe the only one). Calling attention to this issue and medical research is a good thing, but of course they oppose more development into one of the most promising areas of research.
But, back to more pressing issues.
Jake, you better call your broker.
You’ve taken your eye off of the Asian markets today.

All the rest in the red too.
And Europe is down big early as well.
What is Sarah Palin going to do about the global financial crash that continues?
And is she going to be Alaska first on falling oil prices (as Alaska residents and the state lose revenues in a price drop) or is she going to be for America first?

Obama Campaign Finance Fraud Gains Traction
UPDATE: MEDIA REFUSING TO REPORT, INSISTS CONTRIBUTIONS ARE REAL– DESPITE OCT. 9 NYT REPORT NOTING FICTITIOUS CONTRIBUTORS
Mark Steyn cautions, though: Stop donating just to test it out. It’s clear it’s deliberately set up to facilitate campaign donation fraud, from both people going over the limit and of course Saudis, Pakistanis, and Gazans donating illegally.
I’ve just made 5 donations of $5 each using the card. I listed fake addresses in North Korea, Iran, Gaza, Venezuela and Kenya. The names and addresses were made up, each was different, I listed real Yahoo email addresses that forward to me.
Fake Name
Not A. Realperson
Finance Violation
Fraudulent Charge
Over Donation Limit
All 5 went through without a problem. I’m already being solicited for more money.

Lawyer Claims to Have Recording of Obama’s Grandmother Confirming Candidate’s Kenyan Birth
Dateline USA….
Could this be a game changer?
WND reports:
The Pennsylvania Democrat who has sued Sen. Barack Obama demanding he prove his American citizenship – and therefore qualification to run for president – has confirmed he has a recording of a telephone call from the senator’s paternal grandmother confirming his birth in Kenya.
The issue of Obama’s birthplace, which he states is Honolulu in 1961, has been raised enough times that his campaign website has posted an image purporting to be of his “Certification of Live Birth” from Hawaii.
But Philip J. Berg, a former deputy attorney general for Pennsylvania, told the Michael Savage talk radio program [Thursday night] that the document is forged and that he has a tape recording he will soon release….

Guess no wonder will ask Obama why he has spent over $560,000 on his suits, ties, shoes since running for president?
Or
Obama campaign spent $500,000 to upgrade it’s plane????
Or
$290,000 for the special 1 day return trip to Hawaii to see GrandMa…
Oh no, it wouldn’t be fair.

If memory serves me, wasn’t it the republicans that made it illegal for families to sue the pharmaceutical companies for the mercury based preservatives in many childhood vaccines that are responsible for the increased diagnoses of autism? They wanted to protect big business at the cost of our children.

Imagine What The NewsMediaWould’ve Found If They Looked, Perhaps This Proof Of Obama’s Socialist Party Ties?
Newspaper shows Obama belonged to socialist party:
“JERUSALEM – Evidence has emerged that Sen. Barack Obama belonged to a socialist political party that sought to elect members to public office with the aim of moving the Democratic Party far leftward to ultimately form a new political party with a socialist agenda.
Several blogs, including Powerline, previously documented that while running for the Illinois state Senate in 1996 as a Democrat, Obama actively sought and received the endorsement of the socialist-oriented New Party, with some blogs claiming Obama was a member of the controversial party.
The New Party, formed by members of the Democratic Socialists for America and leaders of an offshoot of the Community Party USA, was an electoral alliance that worked alongside the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or ACORN. The New Party’s aim was to help elect politicians to office who espouse its policies.
Among New Party members was linguist and radical activist Noam Chomsky.
Obama’s campaign has responded to the allegations, denying the presidential candidate was ever a member of the New Party.”

1995 Obama Race Baiting Video Discovered
It sounds like those first 10 years with Rev. Jeremiah Wright rubbed off on him…
Barack Obama slams “white executives” living out in the suburbs who do not want to pay taxes to inner city children in a 1995 interview:
Obama admits his Redistribution of Wealth is to SAVE the African American community SO HE CAN ENSURE HIS OWN SALVATION! (and Our Countries Salvation) He compares the plight of African Americas to the ethic genocide’s of Bosnia and Africa. He blames all of African American’s problems on “ONE GROUP” who suppresses them. And He says WHITE people don’t want their taxes to help black children.
Obviously, Obama’s plans to redistribute wealth is not something he just thought up.
Funny- This is the same millionaire who won’t send his brother living in a slum hut 20 bucks.

I am a retired Special Education teacher and feel I can speak to the issues of Special Needs children better then Sarah Palin. I taught for 30 years in Texas where we had ample Federal funding for Special Education. Special Needs Students and programs have been taken care of for years. However, funding for those students that fall within the “normal” range has been woefully substandard. Our “average” kids are falling behind while feel good money is being pumped into programs for children that for the most part will be taken care of the rest of their lives.

Jake, make fun of McCain all you want about the thimerosal issue but it wouldn’t be the first time that studies about the harmful effects of certain additives were covered up (think cigarettes).
My personal opinion is that the explosion of autism cases may have less to do with the additives but maybe attributed to the amount of vaccines giving to the child by the age of 5. How do we know how these diseases, introduced in such as short amount of time into these still developing bodies, are interacting with each other?
Something is happening to our children, particularly boys, but nobody is stopping to take a look to ask ‘why’. Maybe instead of making fun of some theories, reporters should start pushing the drug companies for proof that these vaccines are not harming our children.
Don’t kid yourself, another mandatory vaccine is more money in these guys’ pockets.

Dear Jake Tapper:
I am not a supporter of McCain/Palin but, as the parent of a vaccine-injured child I do credit their responsiveness to the needs of “special needs” children, including those children who are vaccine injured.
Whatever you think about her, it is clear that Sarah Palin has experienced the travails of someone close to a child with autism. Her concern about children with special needs, including her own child, is welcome to all similarly situated parents because it appropriately heightens concern about these issues.
As for Senator McCain’s statement about thimerosal, this is a clear example of a politician stating his belief in a way that produced no political advantage for himself. He is not the only politician who believes that mercury-containing thimerosal in vaccines – including flu shots widely distributed at the present time – is seriously problematic as a health hazard.
For your information, there is significant scientific support for this concern and more science emerges every day. There exist no studies establishing that thimerosal is safe or that thimerosal in vaccines is not linked to autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders. Our public health establishment has preferred not to look at this difficult issue, and dismisses the concern out of hand for fear that our nation’s vaccine program will be damaged. No less than former National Institutes of Health Director Bernadine Healy has said as much, in an inteview with CBS News reporter Sharyl Atkisson.
I would have expected a reporter from a prominent news outlet to present this issue in a more balanced fashion, rather than an off-hand remark unfairly criticizing McCain as being somehow out of the mainstream on this issue.
I support Obama because his and his party’s platform overall likely is better on education and health issues. But certainly on the issue of special needs children and vaccine safety Senator McCain has shown courage and dedication to principle. He should be credited for that – I would not be at all upset if he became President rather than the candidate I support.

Funding the NIH will do NOTHING to help children with autism. Under the CDC and NIH’s watch, autism has INCREASED 2000% and they have done NOTHING. No independent research at all. God forbid we touch the third rail of public medicine, vaccine, to make sure they are safe, which they are not. Don’t fund CAA, fund real research into the cause. Throwing good money after bad isn’t the answer. Palin doesn’t offer anything different than Obama for our kids. More hopelessness. We need more.

India down 10%
Germany down 9%
U.K. down 8%
Dow and Nasdaq down 5% in the first 10 minutes.

Trig Palin is a real cutie. I admire Sarah decided to carry through with her pregnancy. But I do not approve of her using her child politically.
She says one thing, while at same time she and John McCain plan do cause a Medical Health Care Crisis just like the financial meltdown we are now facing. They plan to take away our employer provided health care benefits and want us to pay for everything. Give us a little tax deduction, that will not even come close to voering costs at present, and our costs will only increase. They plan to deregulate insurance companies so we have less protection!! Greed will become rampant, just like it did in financial sector. Look at huge crisis today!!
Now if somehow your employer still decides to provide you benefits, you must add total costs your employer pays to your salary. Your income goes up and you pay more taxes. I doubt if your employer will continue providing as they will lose tax benefit for providing. Bottom line is their profit.
Families with special needs children will actually suffer greatly under their health care plan!! They will be lots worse off!!
How dare she say she is supporting!! She actually plans to destroy health care in America!! Really look at analysis of their plans if you don’t believe me. Just make sure you go to nonpartisan site that explains all well!! Too many sites are for one or the other and their explanations reveal problems!
Health Care Crisis coming if John McCain and Sarah Palin get in!! your

On the other hand, I don’t believe anything that woman says. She is a pathological liar. I don’t know that the tears are real. Their campaign has pretty much modeled themselves after the Clinton campaign — tears and all. And she might get some sympathy votes. But not enough to stem the tide.

Stem cell research is not going to find a “cause” for disabilities. It might be a treatment option. I think we can all agree that “cause” is going to be about an environmental toxin and admitting that these toxic substances damage immune system function, mitochondria and neurons is where it should be headed, because, as we also know, the alternative medical community already knows this.

I grew up with a handicapped brother and have friends who have a child with Down’s Syndrome. I appreciate the Governor’s concern on this issue.
I hope, however, that she will explain her stated opposition to Colorado’s proposed Amendment 51.
The Amendment would increase the state sales tax by one penny for every $10 spent for a two year period in order to provide service for “special needs” children including those with Down’s Syndrome and autism.
There are currently a 12,000 such children on a waiting list for Colorado state services. This stuff takes money, Governor. How are these services going to be paid for?

Posted by: indy_voter | October 24, 2008, 4:28 pm 4:28 pm
Touching? Yes.
Palin cut funding for Special Olympics.
Alaska had 2 federal lawsuits against it to increase other special needs funding. A legislator said a bill was passed to comply and added more. Governor Palin did not advocate for it; she did squat. She did sign the bill.
Now, I do not believe Trig had been born yet but her nephew is 11 years-old.
Of course, Palin may have had an epiphany since Trig. She would not be the first Republican who began to care about something once it affected them. Apparently, a nephew’s plight was not close enough to get involved.
I will refrain from saying what I call people like her.
McCain’s record is decidedly mixed but his inclination is that he cares little about education funding. But who knows? Maybe this could be the 1,111st exception to his across the board spending freeze.

Special Needs Parents Beware of Sarah Palin.
Sarah Palin wants to divert funds from already underfunded federal programs that support special needs children in public schools to give parents choice for private schools? And do we really think parents will receive the full tuition amount for private schools? Probably not. So I’m guessing really only wealthy families will be able to use these resources as a supplment to private tuition, and middle-class families with children in public schools will see a reduction of school services. That’s what it looks like to me. Aside from private schools for the moderately to severely disabled, private and religious schools typically do not have their own special needs resources–a religious education is not adequate for special needs children. Children who are mildly yet pervasively disabled will receive fewer supportive services in the public schools and their outcomes compromised. Programs that involve directing funding to parents sometimes require strict qualification criteria based on level of disability and that may leave exclude many families whose children have special needs. With diminished services in public schools these families will be left out in the cold. Palin is pandering to special needs families for votes and I think this is reprehensible.

Jake – Please ask Sarah Palin for the specifics when she indicates that special needs families can “count on us in the White House doing all that we can for them”. Does that mean more funding for early intervention? Are the Palins providing early intervention for Trig? They should do more than just photo ops with Trig by being more specific regarding the support required if they are going to be a role model for families with special needs kids.

McCain and Palin are for school vouchers. They really do not support Public Schools. So when Palin talks about special education funding, who is the money for? Most special education is provided within Public School settings, and in fact Speech Language Pathology services are almost entirely provided by Public school Speech Language Pathologists, even for private school students. Does she know that “No Child Left Behind” has actually done special education the greatest disservice. Now even kids who are learning handicapped are expected, under the mandate of NCLB, to be at “grade level” in academics. It appears those who came up with NCLB are fundamentally ignorant about one fact :If learning handicapped students could be working at grade level they would not be in special education to begin with. Is Palin planning to send Trig to a Public School? When she says she would like to fully fund the federal mandate for special education, she is going to have to favor Public Education over vouchers.

That Sarah Palin is prone to abusing her power for personal reasons, as she was shown to do in Alaska, is evident in her plan, should she become VP, to pressure Congress into funding a $45 billion program for the benefit special-needs children like her son Trig. Children with other health issues—diabetes, HIV, cystic fibrosis, sickle cell anemia, muscular dystrophy, etc.—do not figure in her plan. Parents of these children presumably would be left to negotiate health costs with their private insurers, provided they can afford or get the insurance.
