At a fundraiser Friday night at Philadelphia’s Sheraton City Center, the Garden State’s finest — Jon Bon Jovi — warmed up the crowd.
Soon however JBJ and crew were replaced by Keystone State Gov. Ed Rendell, who poked fun at his primary support for Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y.
"People are always asking me, why do I like Barack Obama so much?" he said. "Since June I’ve had an answer."
Added Rendell, "Perhaps the only thing I don’t like about him is he’s too thin."
The stocky governor suggested that Obama should eat a cheesesteak from Pat’s every day.
Obama contemplated that idea when he took the stage.
"A cheesesteak, once a day," Obama said, "and I will have the pleasure of looking like Ed Rendell."
UPDATE: ABC News’ Sunlen Miller reports that in Northeast Philly just now outside the Mayfair Diner, Obama — accompanied by Rendell — said, "I’m gonna grab some pie here too. Because Rendell told me I need to fatten up. Rendell gave me a gift certificate for a year long of Philly cheesesteaks."
Showing some knowledge of the Passayunk Avenue cheesesteak wars, Obama said, "It was Pat’s right? It was Pat’s. I didn’t want to get into a Geno’s- Pat’s argument."
