SNL on the VP Debate
Courtesy of Politico’s Mike Allen…
QUEEN LATIFAH AS GWEN IFILL: "Good evening, I’m Gwen Ifill and welcome to Washington University in St. Louis Missouri to the first and only 2008 Vice Presidential Debate between the Republican nominee, Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska, and the Democratic nominee, Joe Biden of Delaware. Let’s welcome the candidates."
TINA FEY AS GOV. SARAH PALIN: "Can I call you, ‘Joe?’"
JASON SUDEIKIS AS SEN. JOE BIDEN: "Of course."
FEY AS PALIN: "OK, ’cause I practiced a couple of zingers where I call you Joe."
LATIFAH AS IFILL: "Now tonight’s discussion will cover a wide range of topics including domestic and foreign policy matters. Each candidate will have 90 seconds to respond to a direct question and then an additional two minutes for rebuttal and follow-up. As moderator, I will not ask any follow-up questions beyond ‘do you agree?’ or ‘your response?’ so as not to appear biased for Barack Obama in light of my new book (holding up book) ‘The Breakthrough: Politics of Race in the Age of Obama,’ coming out on inauguration day and available for pre-order on Amazon.com. And finally, we would like to remind our audience that due to the historically low expectations for Governor Palin, were she simply to do an adequate job tonight, and at no point cry, faint, run out of the building or vomit you should consider the debate a tie. Alright, let’s begin. Senator Biden, how, as Vice President would you work to shrink the gap of polarization that has sprung up in Washington?
SUDEIKIS AS BIDEN: "Well, I would do what I have done my whole career, whether it’s been dealing with violence against women or putting 100,000 police officers in the streets. I would reach across the aisle. Like I’ve done with so many members of the other party. Members like John McCain. Because look, I love John McCain. He is one of my dearest friends. But at the same time, he’s also dangerously unbalanced. I mean, let’s be frank, John McCain — and again, this is a man I would take a bullet for — is bad at his job and mentally unstable. As my mother would say, ‘God love him, but he’s a raging maniac…’ and a dear, dear friend."
LATIFAH AS IFILL: "Governor Palin. How will your administration deal with the current financial crisis?"
FEY AS PALIN: "Well first of all, let me say how nice it is to meet Joe Biden. And may I say, up close your hair plugs don’t look nearly as bad as everyone says. You know, John McCain and I, we’re a couple of mavericks. And gosh darnit, we’re gonna take that maverick energy right to Washington and we’re gonna use it to fix this financial crisis and everything else that’s plaguin’ this great country of ours."
LATIFAH AS IFILL: "How will you solve the financial crisis by being a maverick?"
FEY AS PALIN: "You know we’re gonna take every aspect of the crisis and look at it and then we’re gonna ask ourselves, ‘what would a maverick do in this situation?’ And then, you know, we’ll do that." (SHE winks.)
LATIFAH AS IFILL: "Senator Biden, how would your administration address the current financial crisis?"
SUDEIKIS AS BIDEN: "Barack Obama and I understand that we need to regulate
Wall Street. John McCain voted against Wall Street regulation 41 times. Let me repeat that. 41 times! And again, this is a man I love. If I had to spend the rest of my life on a desert island with only one other person it would be John McCain — no doubt about it. I mean, you should see the way my face lights up when he walks into a room. But the fact is, John McCain has voted with George Bush ninety percent of the time, let me say that again: time."
LATIFAH AS IFILL: "Governor Palin, would you like to respond to Senator Biden’s comments about Senator McCain?"
FEY AS PALIN: "No thank you, but I would like to talk about bein’ an outsider. You see while Senator Biden has been in Washington all these years I’ve been with regular people. Hockey moms and Joe Six-packs I’d also like to give a shout out to the third graders of Gladys Woods Elementary who were so helpful to me in my debate prep. Also too, you see, I think a bit differently from an insider. I don’t think it’s patriotic to pay more taxes. I don’t think it’s patriotic to criticize these wars we got goin’ on. I do think it’s patriotic to tell the government, ‘Hey get outta my way! Stop tryin’ to impose on my right to shoot wolves from a helicopter.’ But a Washington insider like Joe Biden probably disagrees."
SUDEIKIS AS BIDEN: "You know I get a little tired of being told I’m an insider. I come from Scranton, Pennsylvania and that’s as hardscrabble a place as you’re gonna find. I’ll show you around some time and you’ll see. It’s a hellhole. An absolute jerkwater of a town. You couldn’t stand to spend a weekend there. It is just an awful, awful sad place filled with sad desperate people with no ambition. Nobody, and I mean nobody, but me has ever come out of that place. It’s a genetic cesspool. So don’t be telling me that I’m part of the Washington elite because I come from the absolute worst place on Earth: Scranton, Pennsylvania. And Wilmington, Delaware is not much better."
LATIFAH AS IFILL: "Senator Palin. Address your position on global warming and whether you think it’s man-made or not."
FEY AS PALIN: "Gwen, we don’t know if this climate change hoozie-what’s-it is man-made or if it’s just a natural part of the ‘End of Days.’ But I’m not gonna talk about that I would like to talk about taxes, because with Barack Obama, you’re gonna be paying higher taxes. But not with me and my fellow maverick. We are not afraid to get maverick-y in there and ruffle feathers and not got to allow that. And also, too, the great Ronald Reagan."
LATIFAH AS IFILL: "The next question is for you, Senator Biden. Do you support, as they do in Alaska, granting same-sex benefits to couples?"
SUDEIKIS AS BIDEN: "I do. In an Obama-Biden administration same-sex couples would be guaranteed the same property rights, rights to insurance, and rights of ownership as heterosexual couples. There will be no distinction. I repeat, no distinction."
LATIFAH AS IFILL: "So to clarify, do you support gay marriage, Senator Biden?"
SUDEIKIS AS BIDEN: "Absolutely not. But I do think they should be allowed to visit one another in the hospital and in a lot of ways, that’s just as good, if not better."
LATIFAH AS IFILL: "Governor Palin. Would you extend same-sex rights to the entire country?"
FEY AS PALIN: "You know I would be afraid of where that would lead. I believe marriage is meant to be a sacred institution between two unwilling teenagers. But don’t think I don’t tolerate gay people. Because I do. I tolerate them with all my heart. And I know quite a few too. Not personally. But I know of them. I’ve seen ‘Ellen.’ Oh, and there was this one girl on my college basketball team. She wasn’t officially ‘a gay,’ but, you know, we were pretty sure."
LATIFAH AS IFILL: "Governor Palin, what is your position on Healthcare regulation?"
FEY AS PALIN: "I’m gonna ignore that question and instead talk about Israel. I love Israel so much. Bless its heart. There’s a special place for Israel in heaven. And I know some people are going to say I’m only saying that to pander to Florida voters, but from a very young age, my two greatest loves were always Jews and Cuban food."
LATIFAH AS IFILL: "I would now like to give each of you a chance to make a closing statement."
FEY AS PALIN: : (holding flute): Oh, are we not doing the talent portion?
(FEY AS PALIN plays flute, winks)
(LATIFAH AS IFILL stares)
LATIFAH AS IFILL: "Senator Biden, your closing statement?"
SUDEIKIS AS BIDEN: "My goal tonight was a simple one. To come up here and at no point seem like a condescending, egomaniacal bully, and I’m gonna be honest, I think I nailed it. Sure there were moments when I wanted to say, ‘Hey, this lady is a dummy!’ But I didn’t. Because Joe Biden is better than that. I repeat Joe Biden is better than that (pointing at FEY/PALIN). So to all of the pundits who said I would seem cocky or arrogant. You dopes got schooled Biden-style."
LATIFAH AS IFILL: "Governor Palin?"
FEY AS PALIN: "I liked being here tonight answering these tough questions without the filter of the mainstream gotcha media with their ‘follow-up questions,’ ‘fact-checking’ or ‘incessant need to figure out what your words mean and why ya put them in that order.’ I’m happy to be speaking directly to the American people to let them know if you want an outsider who doesn’t like politics as usual or pronouncin’ the "g" and the end of words she’s sayin’ I think you know who to vote for. Oh, and for those Joe Six-packs out there playing a drinking game at home — Maverick."
LATIFAH AS IFILL: "Well, this concludes tonight’s debate. The book drops November 4, and Live From New York…It’s Saturday Night!

WHO WILL BE SLEEPING IN THE LINCOLN BEDROOM IN AN OBAMA WHITEHOUSE? This is a serious question that has captured my attention. The question is in reaction to what almost everyone sees – a media blatantly refusing to report on legitimate issues and distorting anything or anyone who stands in the way the Obama election efforts. How many reporters are looking for people who can tell Obama’s story? I’m not sure anyone can without damaging Senator Obama.

FEY AS PALIN: “I believe marriage is meant to be a sacred institution between two unwilling teenagers.”
This was the 2nd personal attack on the Palin family. The first one suggested that Todd Palin was having an incestous relationship with his daughters.
But don’t worry, Barack’s family is OFF LIMITS. What a double standard!

I am an undecided voter. I do have a question which concerns me.
Can someone tell me why Obama has not agreed to do townhall meetings with McCain. Every presidential election has had then from Gore/Bush, to Kerry/Bush.
Why not this time?
Posted by: Leo | October 5, 2008, 11:09 am 11:09 am
VS….I feel sorry for people like you.
Posted by: marie | October 5, 2008, 11:09 am 11:09 am
Leo ..actually I am not sure. But that does not really matter to me.
Posted by: Marie | October 5, 2008, 11:10 am 11:10 am
McCain wanted 10 townhalls, Obama countered with 5 and they couldnt reach a deal. McCain wanted more because he was behind all summer and recognized he needed more chances to change the trajectory. McCain could certainly use them now as he’s down 8 on gallup.
This next debate will be a townhall format.
Posted by: bubba | October 5, 2008, 11:14 am 11:14 am
Okay but it does to me Marie. I am trying to be fair. I do think there is some bias out there on the failure of Obama to be pushed. The town hall meetings were my favorite part of the elections. Why has Obama not agreed to them. To get the questions posed to both men in one room for the people? For me as an undecided it does seem sort of strange that Obama has failed to submit to a townhall debate with Mccain
Posted by: Leo | October 5, 2008, 11:14 am 11:14 am
Okay Bubba, thanks for the info.I thought it was odd that there have not been any
Posted by: Leo | October 5, 2008, 11:16 am 11:16 am
Thanks Bubba for shedding some light on that. It was just an issue that never bothered me.

Palin is such an outlandish choice for being a heartbeat of a 72 year old cancer survivor away from the presidency of the US, that it invites satire like this. And all they do is to use her actual words – its hilarious.
Posted by: Bob | October 5, 2008, 11:17 am 11:17 am
Strange how SNL/MAD can go after Palin, Biden, Mc Cain and Hillary, but never seem to get around to OBAMA. When he’s actually portrayed in a skit it seems to mock other Let SNL have their fun. It’s been a dead show for years, and I do enjoy NBC causing problems for GE.
Posted by: Jack | October 5, 2008, 11:17 am 11:17 am
McCain favors townhall meetings because they can ask Obama loaded questions like “why do you cavort with terrorists?” Of course they can’t ask McCain why his campaign manager why he’s been collecting $15 grand a month from Fannie Mae, because the American electorate is generally too stupid to care about real issues like the reason the economy is in the tank.
Posted by: Joe | October 5, 2008, 11:20 am 11:20 am
On the topic of this SNL skit. I never really give them much thought. I saw all of the skits and again it would have been funnier to me if SNL was not pushing an agenda. Tina Fey did this when she was was obviously supporting Hillary Clinton. Did not help much there. It is what it is Comedy.
I will look to these debates to helpme decide. Though I will be truthful. Obama is not what will make me vote for his ticket. I must divorce myself from his participation on it in order to vote for it. That is what is difficult for me.
Posted by: Leo | October 5, 2008, 11:21 am 11:21 am
I think they missed the best part of the debate….where Gwen Ifill said, “you didn’t answer the question”. (it sounded like she wanted to add, damn you) I think she let herself get a little out of control on that one…would have made a great part of the skit.
Posted by: kennedy | October 5, 2008, 11:22 am 11:22 am
JAck they have had a few poking fun at Obama. It is just that the others are easier to poke fun at.
Posted by: Marie | October 5, 2008, 11:23 am 11:23 am
len,
don’t know what rock you’re living under, but the ratings for SNL this year have been sky high, thanks to these sketches. And they’ll be replayed on the news shows all week. I’d argue that this show has been one of the main factors in McCain’s falling poll numbers since picking Palin, in addition to the financial crisis of course.
Posted by: Mike | October 5, 2008, 11:23 am 11:23 am
As an educated female, it is beyond me how ANYONE can believe that Palin is qualified to be a mayor, govenor, let alone vice president of the United States. Her cutie-pie winks at all of the “JOE 6-Packs” panders to the non-thinking male. She does diligently work to turn-on people with her good looks and sex appeal. But, “Gosh, darn,” God save us from this woman. She does not have the wisdom of other “down home” political commentators like Will Rogers or John Henry Faulk, Jr. Palin is all cutsie sarcasm and lies. Please get her off the political stage. Her canidacy is insulting to all women of intelligence. Men, please, quit thinking with your sticks.
Posted by: Terresa | October 5, 2008, 11:27 am 11:27 am
The SNL skits on Obama and McCain havent been very funny. The Palin skits are hilarous because she’s just a ripe target. The Biden bit was pretty good too.
Posted by: bubba | October 5, 2008, 11:27 am 11:27 am
The reason Palin couldn’t talk to Couric, but can wink-wink the Joe 6-Pack on nationwide tv… She’s a flirt that is not used to having substantive discussion on issues. Palin cannot talk straight to women. This type of sexism is gross!!!
Posted by: Common Sense | October 5, 2008, 11:28 am 11:28 am
Mike, I hope you are wrong- re the part about people letting it influence their vote. That is pretty sad. I hope that people read scholarly journals, and credible news publications. I have never been one to read the Onion but my son used it and the Daily Show as a source for a research paper and his prof was all over him. Rightfully so.
I am just saying that if people are using SNL to let them make voting decisions then American truly is going down the tubes, figuratively and literally.

Terresa Amen! I was getting my hair done for my wedding the other weekend and this woman in her 60′s was in the chair next to me and she was going on and on about how much she loves Palin. I bit my tongue but I was thing…you have got to be kidding me!

Posted by: casual observer | October 5, 2008, 11:30 am 11:30 am
Leo, i think it has gone down the tubes. People get their info from shows like that and they beleive every single ad on the tv. I live in the middle of no where in PA and I can not tell you how many people are convinced Obama is a terrorist. It is is sad and unbelievable!

Posted by: RLY | October 5, 2008, 11:33 am 11:33 am
Leo,
It’s not a matter of someone consciously “letting” these SNL sketches make up their mind for them, but they do have an influence on people’s impressions of the candidates. And it’s nothing new. For example, some people might have picked up on Gore’s stiffness in 2000, but the SNL sketches just made that impression more exaggerated and widespread. The same thing is happening to Palin now.
Posted by: Mike | October 5, 2008, 11:34 am 11:34 am
SNL has been bad for a long time now. They are now coming on Thursdays. We will see how it does in prime time. I for one will not watch it. It will never be what it was when Bill Murray, Dan Ackroyd,Eddie Murphey, James Belushi and Gilda were on it.
They had talent. I liked Rachel Dratch and Will Ferrell that was about it for the new people. Mike Meyers was good too. But some of them are just obnoxious and not funny
Posted by: Leo | October 5, 2008, 11:34 am 11:34 am
Mike, Iam glad you brought that up because that was a time that SNL realized that they stuck their foot in their mouth. An insider said after that they did not realize that they contributed to costing Gore the election. Will Ferrell portraying Bush was hilarious and everyone wanted to see more. I have a buddy that is now voting McCain because he finds Palin more interesting and says that if MCCain loses Palin will go away. he said the world is a lot more interesting with her in it.
Sometimes these things backfire with SNL. It rouses the RNC base. It does not sway me so I am waiting for the debates to make my final determination of who I will vote for.

Stayed up last night just to watch SNL and Tina Fey nailed it.
Every question Ifill asked Palin looked down at her paper and answered a COMPLETELY different question.
Posted by: Vanessa | October 5, 2008, 11:43 am 11:43 am
That was pretty good. I can’t tell the difference between Fey and Palin anymore.
Except I might VOTE for Tina Fey.
Posted by: Bud | October 5, 2008, 11:43 am 11:43 am
The only thing that Fey had a hard time with was the facial tic. I’m beginning to believe that what happened was that Biden was so successful in making the debate about McCain that Palin was trying to remind us that he wouldn’t be President for very long. Anyone who has watched McCain has noticed the problem with the left side of his face.
Posted by: Mike | October 5, 2008, 11:47 am 11:47 am
Vanessa to put somethings into perspective. Debates are what you make of them. They really don’t have rules. To be fair Obama did the same thing during his debate about the economy. He did not answer the question I counted 5 times.
As I undecided I find the one sided commentary from the Obama camp to be off putting. I really don’t know what I am going to do in November. I will look at the debates.
Posted by: Leo | October 5, 2008, 11:54 am 11:54 am
At this rate, Sarah Palin is going to have a new job this January!
She’ll be a GREAT Tina Fey impersonator.

I am a 55 year old female Independent voter. I have voted since I was eighteen, sometimes for Republicans, sometimes for Democrats for the President of the United States. I have always tried to vote for the person who seemed to have the most wisdom, courage, and ethics, NOT necessarily the most experience, because experience does not always equate with wisdom, courage, and ethics.
I am tired of hearing the McCain “experience” argument. Experience does not equate with WISE leadership. Obama stood up against an unjust war when it was unpopular. He is intelligent and well-educated, thinking critically about the long range effects of the actions of the U.S. government. He has served the American people in many ways from the ground up. He has been a courageous leader for positive changes in people’s lives.
Bush sold the war with lies, lies, and more lies. No weapons of mass destruction. If there were any, we supplied them when our government was friendly to Sadam Hussien when we were in favor of him having them. The terrorists responsible for the 9-11 attacks did NOT come from Iraq. Most of them came from Saudi Arabia, a country that the Cheney-Bush regime cowers to for their own economic benefit.
Too many lives have been lost in the Iraq war – our soldiers and their civilians. The U.S. has destroyed their country and has spent almost a trillion dollars and still counting to do so. Now, we must spend additional billions to rebuild what we have destroyed. I wonder who owns ammunition stocks and such…
John McCain supported this war and continues to support the war. His kind of experience we do NOT need. Such experience has made the U.S. look like terrorists to the rest of the world. We need someone to return us to a GREAT nation because of our wisdom and intellect.
I am confident that Obama and those he selects to help him govern will protect our country with wisdom rather than with experience toting guns, killing, and lies. God, help our country regain ethics, integrity, and wisdom.

Like the shows with Barbara Walters and Oprah Winfrey, it’s entertainment for a certain class of viewer. In the final analysis it will have no effect on voters. What does affect voters is well designed attack ads. Both parties will be rolling out the tabloid fodder over the next few weeks.

AMERICA IS IN DANGER! OBAMA’S POLITICAL CAREER STARTED WITH HIS AFFILIATION WITH WILLIAM AYERS AND BERNARDINE DOHRN, THE UNREPENTANT TERRORISTS … part of “The Weathermen” terrorist group which launched a campaign to bomb” the Pentagon and the U.S. Capitol. In the 90’s, both “Community Organizers” Ayers and Obama worked together for years, radicalizing the Chicago school system.
The terrorist group Weatherman issued a “manifesto” in 1969, calling for armed opposition to U.S. policies; advocating the overthrow of capitalism; exhorting white radicals to trigger a worldwide revolution by fighting in the streets; and proclaiming that the time had come to launch a race war against the “white” United States on behalf of the non-white Third World.
At a 1969 “War Council” in Flint, Michigan, Weatherman leaders Ayer and Bernardine Dohrn proclaimed that the time had come to launch a war against “Amerikkka”. The Weather Underground went on to claim credit for some 25 bombings over the next several years, detonating explosives at the rebuilt Haymarket statue, a bathroom at the Pentagon, the Capitol barber shop, the New York City police headquarters, and a variety of other targets.
Most recently in 1985, former Weather Underground members Susan Rosenberg and Linda Evans were apprehended while transporting 740 pounds of explosives which they both acknowledged were slated for use in additional bombings. Rosenberg was sentenced to 58 years in prison, Evans 40; President Bill Clinton pardoned both women in January 2001.
BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA’S CLOSE ASSOCIATION WITH RADICAL EXTREMISTS PUTS AMERICA IN DANGER of being taken over by a group of radical terrorists that would “change” America as Obama has promised;…but the change would be to fulfill the dreams of the Weathermen of overthrowing capitalism and launching a race war against the “white” United States.
AMERICANS OF ALL PARTIES MUST COME TOGETHER AND DEFEND OUR COUNTRY against dangerous terrorists and vote for a True American Patriot, John McCain!
AMERICA FIRST!
JOHN MCCAIN AND SARAH PALIN

I think anyone that believes that Obama is hiding anything is simply ignorant. Use some common sense. Do you honestly think that someone trying out for the most important job in the WHOLE world would not get a pretty thorough background check from the CIA, FBI, NSA, etc…? They’ve probably interviewed everyone down to the first girl he made out with. You can believe that Manolete’s comments or wait…use your brain and some common sense. As to the candidates, McCain is old and if he dies in office, we’ll end up an with ignorant Annie Oakley running the most powerful country in the world. Does anyone seriously want that? I was 50/50 until they added her to the ticket. I’ll take Obamas’ intelligence and Biden’s experience over McCain’s experience and Palin’s ignorance any day.

I know this is only comedy but,it’s almost scary the thought of this lady being only a heart beat away from the presidency.
Can It be with all the problems we face as a nation we would actual vote for an individual who clearly is not ready for prime time on television let alone the White House.

With Palin as VP the U.S educational system will see test scores increase. According to Palin’s new standard children will no longer have to answer test questions correctly. Simply provide what ever answer you want to the given question. As long as you feel good about the answer, your a winner. Now that’s Maverick for ya’.
I know one group of people that will avoid this economic crisis….comedy writers.

She is the most popular governor in America.
She did manage with little resources almost become Lt. Gov.
She did manage to shake up the corrupt GOP/oil love triangle in Alaska.
Sarah, come on the show already!

This show “SNL” owned by NBC, and NBC owned by General Electrica Co. (GE), and GE is Democratic underground. GE for all states owned many TV stations including MSNBC.. GE has many stocks.
No American wants to study why America is in crisis?
It came from Democrat Fannie Mae, and Democrat Fannie Mae destroyed the economy of America bankrupt every body.
SNL is Democrat’s PAPER TOILET.
Democrat wiped out America’s bank accounts and now they get a black unexperience Obama as their Messiah and claimed he knows how to fix. No they use him to keep power so they can mess up even more.
Obama is absolutely Communist.

They were laughing about Palin on Meet the Press this morning. The way she avoided answering questions and just ran a rehearsed informercial.
Posted by: memyself | October 5, 2008, 12:32 pm 12:32 pm
Saying that Palin “did great in the debate” ignores the fact that she DIDN’T DEBATE.
Sarah Palin merely recited lines at the (sometimes) appropriate time.
Palin’s failure to actually debate underscores her lack of depth and understanding of the difficult issues that face our country.
John McCain should be ashamed of himself .
Posted by: Chris | October 5, 2008, 12:33 pm 12:33 pm
John: She’s no longer the most popular governor in the USA (which, by the way, is not the impressive feat it might seem at first glance when you consider that she has fewer constituents to please in her entire state than in the lion’s share of major cities in the country). Quite a few Alaskans have turned the page on her since she moved down into the Lower 48. Also, Republican types… Learn to Spell! You write the way Sarah Palin talks, and it’s hard to take any of you seriously.

That’s precisely why I stopped voting Republican…ignorant comments like Beatrice’s. Always fear-mongering, always blaming, always trying to use hate and ignorance to further the agenda. The Republican agenda is extremely contradictory. Less taxes, but wait, only for the rich. Less government, but wait, the government needs to interfere with you life and tell you who to marry or what to do with your body, leave my guns alone – but why do need more Police?

A June 20, 2008 Gallup poll showed 12% of Americans expressed confidence in Congress, (the lowest of any institution Gallup had measured in 35 years). In July ‘08, a Rasumussen poll showed a 9% “positive” rating for Congress, (again, lowest in the history of the poll).
In April ‘08, a Rasmussen poll showed Sarah Palin had a 73% “good” or “excellent” rating as Governor of Alaska. In the same month, a Hays report had her approval rating at 80%. Other polls (inc. KTUU) in Alaska had her approval rating as high as 86%.
If polled, I wonder how many Americans would say lawyers are helping or hurting our Country? (For God’s sake, my 9 year old niece and her classmates aren’t even allowed to run on the playground for fear of lawsuits.)
Please, I’m begging…Can just one of you left-wing hater-drones outline a single thoughtful, rational reason why you are so eager to vote 2 members of Congress -Obama/Biden- (both of whom are lawyers) into the White House in an effort to “fix” Washington?
(Yes, Mr. Obama is a smooth talking lawyer but there must be a more compelling reason than that…right?)

Even the most libs like Alec Baldin still stand up and blamed Democrat and Barney Frank.
Why are these Obama’s supporters have no shame or dare to face the facts?
Sweet talk like Obama with zero executive experiences does not make him qualified for the highest office of the land. Only maxist-communist may think that way.

St. Louis loved Sarah Palin. Obama has been manufactured and marketed more than anyone is history-and successfully. If the media had dug into his backround as much as they have into Sarah Palin’s, Hillary Clinton would have been the nominee. His relationships with undesirable people will come back to haunt him. The DNC in their haste to get rid of Clinton didn’t do their homework. With the help of the media, a monster has been created. If anyone really thinks Obama can fix the housing crisis, please look at the district he represented in Chicago.

This skit was completelty off the mark in representing the Palin that came across to America.
Why don’t you report on something that matters to the American people, such as Pelosi not demanding a “witch hunt” in exposing her party as being in bed with Freddie/Fannie, who assumed much of those crap loans, so that the banks didn’t have to bear as much liability?
That Pelosi/Frank/Bush skit was pretty telling I think.
Posted by: John | October 5, 2008, 1:22 pm 1:22 pm
Satire is only funny when it resonates. SNL is crushing in the ratings compared with last year. Not to mention the viral aspect on the Web. The clip is on every major news site this morning. Clearly this skit resonates.
The McCain strategy of isolating Palin has made this impersonation even more influential as some Americans may only see the Fey characterization.
My favorite line:
“if you want an outsider who doesn’t like politics as usual or pronouncin’ the “g” and the end of words she’s sayin’ I think you know who to vote for”.

“Due to the historically low expectations for Gov. Palin, were she simply to do an adequate job tonight, at no point cry, faint, run out of the building or vomit, you should consider the debate a tie.” Queen Latifah as “Gwen Ifill” in SNL tells the audience.======>
This is an incorrect stereotype of women. Never ever did Gov Palin once act like this. Cry, scream, faint, walk out.. are you joking??!! In fact, the reverse– as a newcomer on the scene with eggs being thrown on her– she took on tough pundits by hand and foot!!! Brave, strong and full of integrity!!
How can Fey and Poehler do this to their own gender and perpetuate the bad steretypes is beyond reason; that too.. just for a little silly laugh.
I’m not a Palin supporter.. but even her critics must agree:
Gov Palin did an EXCELLENT job in the VP candidate role- far far better than most would if they had 5 weeks on the scene with a newborn– that includes Biden, McCain, and even perhaps Hillary… folks!!

I was born in a regime (comunism) and my family escaped in 1988 to west germany which is a democracy. Therefore I learned the fundamental differences of both systems and I am able to recognize them due to their symptoms. It is fact that George Bush changed the constitution in order to be able to take your human rights away as soon as he has the slightest doubt about your persona and thinks you might be a terrorist. This is exactly what was happening in comunism (not to be confused with socialism) as well as in fascism (nazi germany). It is crystal clear to me as a citizen of a democratic counrty (The Federal States of Germany) that McCain would be no change to the positive but to the negative for the education, healthcare and economic system of the U.S. You don’t have to be very educated to recognize that, just be open-minded and look at the facts. Don’t look at the person, who you like or not, who you can relate to due to the persons background. Be honest with youself and let all the smalltalk aside. What is the candidates program really all about. If you are registered to vote and if you truely love The United States of America inform youself on this issue for the sake of your countries future and the future of your children. Your actions now are going to have a deep impact on both. Don’t be a racist (someone who makes difference between people based on their heritage), don’t be hard-headed, don’t be a hanger-on or a dummy. Your and your childrens future depends on it. Listen to your heart, your common sense and to your conscience. I decidet without of doubt for Obama and Biden, now it’s on you. God Bless

Obama has the same executive experience as McCain. They’re both Senators not Governors. They have legislative experience.
More importantly, Obama got that the fundamentals of the economy were not strong three weeks ago.
Palin isn’t even in the same league as the other three candidates, thus, the SNL skits.

Yes, we should ALL be judged in part by the company we keep. It says a lot about our character and judgement.

I’m afraid the fabulous Tina Fey may have been taken prisoner in the NBC ratings war.
Back light years ago in the primaries “Would you like another cushion, Senator Obama?” were groundbreaking because up till then no one had had the courage to point out obvious uneven media treatment for Hillary and Barack.
But these Palin parodies are just a repeat of the evening news. The only problem is that the real Sarah Palin is a much better act than the parody!
Vote McCain/Palin.
Posted by: newton31 | October 5, 2008, 2:46 pm 2:46 pm
What amuses me most about the “mavericky” Sarah Palin’s mindless repetition of the word “maverick” is that she apparently doesn’t even know what the word “maverick” means. At least twice in the last debate she referred to herself and McCain as a “team of mavericks”.
According to the dictionary, the definition of a “maverick” is:
a lone dissenter, as an intellectual, an artist, or a politician, who takes an independent stand apart from his or her associates.
Hence there’s no such thing as a “team of mavericks”. The phrase is an oxymoron. Subtract oxy from that and you get Sarah Palin.

Interesting that most of you are ignoring the fact that SNL also spoofed the Democrats and their denial of responsibility for the mortgage financial crisis. That was the real substance issue of the show which the mainstream media and Obama supporters are ignoring today, hoping that the issue will go away.
So, let’s not admit to ourselves that the financial crisis and mortgage meltdown has Democratic Party fingerprints and DNA all over it. Let’s act like we’re on a different planet, because anyone on this planet paying attention can’t miss the connections between Fannie Mae / Freddie Mac / ACORN / Democrats / Obama.

He seemed to be very happy being a Kenyon, and who are you to say how family deals with family? A dollar a day may seem like nothing to you, but this young man is a thoughtful and intelligent person. It is just plain scary that people saw Palin’s android-like performance thursday night at the debate and thought that she won it! She might have won a comedian contest, or some such novelty competition, but this was a debate for the vice presidency of our country! She displayed absolutely no sense of empathy for the pain of others, only kept her act rolling irrevocably along, filling in the blanks with canned phrases and cute expressions. She makes my skin crawl.
Tina Fey got it exactly right.

Beatrice, how can you be a libertarian and vote for McCain? He stands for almost everything the libertarians oppose. His campaign is words, words, words but his record shows that he really isn’t for small government and non-interventionism and constitutional rights.
We entered the years of the Bush administration with a surplus and now we’re over $3 trillion in debt, our bridges are falling, we’re losing a useless war but are too proud admit to it, we’re bailing out Wall Street because there’s simply nothing else we can do, jobs are being lost, people are getting kicked out of their homes… do we honestly need more politics from the same party that caused this? Do we need a man whose record mirrors that of the president who got us into this mess? Even if you’re a Republican, you should see that the past 8 years haven’t worked and we need a new approach. Stop pitying yourselves and basking in your own ignorance with your “McCain is a maverick” and “Obama is a muslim” mantras. Take a lot at your words and actions from the outside and maybe you’ll realize why the rest of the western developed world looks down upon us.

Tina Fey has Palin down to a tee….actually maybe she can take her place since she’s 100 times smarter…

Tina Fey will win an Emmy just on her Palin impression alone.

Trash-talking Palin says
Obama pals around with
terrorists which of
course is not true.
What is true is that
McCain palled around with
the North Vietnamese for
five years and gave them
classified military
information which helped
them shoot down more planes
with greater accuracy.

I am an undecided voter. I do have a question which concerns me.
Can someone tell me why Obama has not agreed to do townhall meetings with McCain. Every presidential election has had then from Gore/Bush, to Kerry/Bush.
Why not this time?

Well, at least they alluded to the fact that Gwen Ifill is completely in the tank for Obama/Biden. Sarah Palin looked into the eyes of her fellow American citizens most of the debate, whereas Biden spent most of his time (especially while listening to Palin) focused on Comrade Ifill.

Did Tina do my favorite quote? “Nuclear weaponry, of course, would be the be-all, end-all of just too many people in too many parts of our planet.” Direct quote. Not a joke. And there are people who will vote for this woman.
As far as Ayers goes – you might want to look at the Alaska Independece Party website – the party Tood Palin belonged to for at least a decade – which advocates for secccesation from the union. Is that still considered treason? I think that the Palins have more than a passing relationship, but I’m not sure. And I beieve home schooling is just fine – but if you take a look at the illiterates who wrote that website – you’ll have second thoughts. It’s where people went when they left Ruby Ridge.
And Amolete? Obama was 9 years old in 1969. And he did not work in close association with Bill Ayers in the 90s. He was one the same board. Ever erved on a board? You don’t spend a lot of time with fellow members. Ayers incidently – recieved $50 million dollars from one of the most conservative foundations in America. Do you think the Annenbergs are communist, or just stupid?

What no one wants to talk about is how our forefathers had to fight against the British, they were labled terrorist then. So when we talk about being patriotic, are we really admiring terrorism?? How can we talk about things like the Boston tea party and not mention terrorism. The tyrants that win wars dictate how history is told until their futile regiems topple.

An absolutely hilarious skit. Tina Fey is just brilliant in her portrayal of Palin. I just wish Palin was as clear, concise and logical as Fey’s portrayal of her!
I can’t believe the McCain posters here – defending a clearly unqualified candidate, attacking the messenger, and promoting ridiculous lies about Democrats in general and Obama specifically. How do you people face yourselves in the mirror each morning?
Among those lies, Democrats responsible for the economic crisis? Why don’t you go ask Phil Graham about deregulation and then Wall Street about developing derivative investment vehicles using 40x leverage?

All I know is Joe Biden loves McCain, Bill and Hillary seem to love McCain and of course Gov. Palin does. We’ve heard from all of them McCain is ready with the experince and judgement and B. Hussein is not. Biden wanted to be his running mate for God’s sakes. And we know who Bill and Hill will be voting for in the privacy of their own booth.
NEVER OBAMA.
SNL best bit was Obama as scared Prez. calling Hillary at 3AM, smoking, and unable to handle the job…..SO TRUE TO LIFE!

Do you know the origin of the name McCain? Mc or Mac is Gaelic for son. My name MacNab = son of Nab. McCain = son of Cain. Yikes what did Cain do to his brother? This might explain the motives behind a war zealot.
