McCain Scaling Back in Wisconsin, New Hampshire and Colorado?

Democratic sources say the McCain camp may be giving up on New Hampshire and Wisconsin.

Instead of placing new television advertising buys in those states, they say the McCain campaign is stretching out previous ad buys over more days rather than devote new ad money.

No denial from the McCain camp.  One source said simply, "We are on the air in those states."

Obama is leading McCain by 12 percentage points in Wisconsin and by 7 percentage points in New Hampshire, according to the latest polls.

With two weeks left until Election Day, Barack Obama holds a $37-million advantage.

Combined with funds raised by the Democratic National Committee, Obama started the final weeks of the campaign flush with $161 million, while John McCain and the Republican National Committee began October with $124.4 million to spend on the election.

UPDATE: Ad buyers in the battleground state of Colorado are seeing the same dynamic … no new McCain ad buys and stretching out the old ones. Obama leads McCain 51 – 47 in the latest CNN/Time poll of Colorado voters.

I read the McSame camp has already given up in Colorado, Iowa and New Mexico. Down by an avg. of 12-15% in PA, McCain should give that up too.

I think the Republican Party is beginning to scale back on McCain.
There has been too much of the negative attacks from the McCain Campaign and his supporters. Now it seems that if we do not endorse McCain and the far right agenda then we are UN-American.
Funny thing is that I was Un-American while serving in Vietnam, And I have been UN-American my whole adult life. I have raised an Un-American Family too. I am so Un-American I wonder why I am allowed to vote; I guess it is because the Republicans haven’t really found out how to suppress my vote yet. But hey, they are working on it.

OMG we have seen ENOUGH mcCain adds in NH, trust me! nothing new to say. Palin’s trip and her insults to Mass were stupid. Doesshe know how many nh residents are mass transplants who would love to be back in mass with their better schools, closer proximity to our jobs a nd their better programs for everything, but HOUSING is too expensive. She blamed it on massachusetts taxes when in fact Mass residents pay LOWER realestate taxes! LOL! and Shecalled NH the great ‘NORTHWEST”. yeah Barbie, stellar job. come back and make a fool of yourself again sometime. We’ve had enough of mccain in nh. I think Palin’s insulting speech just about wrapped it for us here.

Another puff piece by ABC News Chief Washington Propagandist er, Correspondent George Stephanopoulus. Joe Biden just flatly stated that electing Obama is an invitation to dictators around the world to test BO’s resolve. His foreign policy positions on the Iraq surge, Russia /Georgia (let the UN security council deal with it), etc. indicate that he is weak and Biden confirms that perception is shared by our adversaries around the world with his rhetoric in Seattle. Keep it up Georgie! Only two weeks left! There are more than enough lemmings to make this a winnable election. I am anticipating plenty of attacks on Gov Palin’s intelligence as well as a daily dose of liberal propagandist polls of small controlled samples that advance the cause. Are you still claiming to be an objective journalist?

BREAKING BREAKING
In an interview today with KUSA in Colorado, Sarah Palin was again asked the same question she was asked in the VP debate : What does the VP do? the question was “Brandon Garcia wants to know what the VP does”
Her response was “That’s something that Piper would ask me! … [T]hey’re in charge of the U.S. Senate so if they want to they can really get in there with the senators and make a lot of good policy changes that will make life better for Brandon and his family and his classroom”. Have the media on this please.

It seems the McCain camp is conceding defeat in every state Kerry won, except Pennsylvania, where they are still badly behind. Meanwhile, the battleground is fought entirely on red state territory – Colorado, New Mexico, Iowa, Virginia, Florida, Nevada, Ohio, North Carolina, Missouri and Indiana, with some question about North Dakota, West Virginia and Georgia. To win, McCain has to basically run the table in those states OR offset his loses with a win in PA. He’ll do neither.

Gov. Palin was a mistake, poor judgement and confirmation that the Republicans and McCain camp have no idea what is needed for leadership. Mr. McCain is clearly running out of steam. How can we remotely consider this man for President. I do not think he has the energy or the focus. Ms. Palin will consisitently and continually embarras the country. Posted by: barbara gooch | October 21, 2008, 2:57 pm 2:57 pm

So where exactly is McCain competing?
If IA, CO, NM and NH all go blue then it is hard to see how McCain can pull this one out. He is fighting hard in PA but the numbers just look terrible there and have done so for some time. McCain has not led a single poll there since April when Rasmussen had him up by one point. The RCP average has Obama up by eleven points.
Pennsylvania is gone. Iowa too, most likely.
CO, NM, NV and NH remain McCain’s only hope and even if he wins three out of four he needs to hope that VA, NC, FL, OH, MO remain red. Obama leads in every single one of these states.
Short of a major event followed by a weak Obama response, this is over. As Hillary Clinton found out, Obama will not simply wilt under pressure. These things do happen though.

Decent is a term that is absent in this campaign. There is little in the way of decentcy being portrayed by Americans, we all like living here even though at times the road gets a little tough. The Decent thing to do is both campaigns in the final days be decent to each other as well as the other millions of Americans. All the supporters need to be decent as well, one word mentioned and all heads turn to the worst possoble implications. Obama is a citizen, a christian and like it or not McCain fans, he would do a great job a president. McCain is a vet, a man of experience in some arenas and if he is blessed not to have a stroke during his first term, America would be OK in his hands- Palin I am not so sure…. But the bottom line is lets clean up this race and make this a good year to remember. When my Daughter goes to school I do not want her reading about the dirtiest campaign in history.

Cuz you people are claiming that McCain is irresponsible just cuz he voted with Bush, and you avoid talking about he Obama voting record of 100% compliance with Reid and Pelosi. Obama is hardly independent.

From Karl Rove’s website – http://www.rove.com – Obama continues to lead in the Electoral College with 313 electoral votes to McCain’s 171 and 54 as a toss-up. Over the past few days, North Dakota (3 EV) has shifted from McCain to toss-up on the strength of two polls favorable to Obama.

Excuse me, but that’s what normal people do everyday so why is Obama special for doing it. This country is in deep dodo because we are worshiping a man that has never done anything remarkable in his life. People, please stop this insanity.
________________________________________
We all have the right to our own opinions, and I’ll HAPPILY take anything Barack Obama has to offer this country as POTUS over what Bush has given to the USA the past 8 years.
Bush Almost choked to death on a pretzel, is dumb as a box of rocks, he’s a laughing stock, the US is not respected anymore as it used to be in the world community because almost no one in the world respects him, he’s gotten the US into a selected war that’s costing us $10 BILLION dollars per month and we’ve lost almost 5,000 precious lives out of our military, and he’s gotten us into the biggest deficits in history–in fact, Bush/Cheney have made government even BIGGER if that’s imaginable. Sure I’m NO Republican, but Bush’s Father was a decent president who was NO laughing-stock, and who KNEW what ousting Saddam Hussein would mean to our world unlike this current guy in the White House, because the region now in the Middle-East is destabilized and for who long, no one knows.
Good riddance to Bush/Cheney, and January 2009 and a could-be presidency of Barack Obama couldn’t come FAST enough for me.

Voting records are past news…what matters to me is how a candidate conducts himself, and his campaign, to truly reveal how he will approach government in 2009. McCain has shown me no real judgement or even temperament, stoking rumors and labels of terrorist, socialist, anti-American, Muslim, Arab, are everything that just sickens me about politics.
As a Japanese-American who saw a whole generation of American-born citizens rounded up in internment camps, I can tell you this language associating all Muslims with terrorists from the Republican campaign does nothing but terrify me. These derogatory labels have been applied to all immigrant societies in America for generations, even back to the Native American tribes, the real “real Americans”. How soon we forget our immediate history. Republicans carry on labeling everyone from Obama supporters to the media “liberal”, “elite”, and “unpatriotic”, but in my eyes, name-calling and fear-mongering have never ever lead to a more unified America.
My vote is for Barack Hussein Obama, and I say his full name proudly, and anyone for progressive change in America should do the same. It doesn’t matter how stellar a voting record is if you can’t conduct a campaign of decency. I believe this reflects much more on the poor judgement of McCain than of Obama…McCain’s dropping polls in the race using “race” has supported this. Stop the divisiveness…Muslim, Arab, mixed race, liberal, Democrat, we are all American citizens, and we love America. A vote for Barack Obama is not anti-American; it is a constitutional right and free choice we have been given.

McCain has an almost 8 year record of voting with Bush and holds 26 year seniority in the Senate, where seniority is power. And look how much good he’s done for the US in his time in power – he personally is even proving his much vaulted campaign financing is a farce (as he launders money for his campaign through the RNC).

This election is a lost cause for Mr. McCain who will retire as a Senator because he may not even get reelected in AZ now that a lot of beans have been spilled about him.
US economy aside, i really do think “had” a chance to become the US President had he run a decent and honest campaign and not chosen Gov. Palin as his running mate. These negative innuendos from both candidates surely hurt them a lot.
I wish the best for Senator McCain. Thank you for your service to the Nation for once I was also a soldier.

THE BEGINNING OF THE END FOR THE REPUGS????
News from the Votemaster
McCain Concedes Colorado, Iowa, and New Mexico
CNN is reporting that McCain is making those tough decisions that politicians love to talk about. According to CNN, McCain is abandoning Colorado (9 EVs), Iowa (7 EVs) and New Mexico (5 Evs). If Obama wins these three he gets 21 EVs. Add these to the 252 EVs Kerry won and he has 273 and becomes President. McCain’s strategy at this point is to win Florida, North Carolina, Virginia, Ohio, Missouri, Nevada, and–get this–Pennsylvania. The first six are arguably swing states, but our three-poll average puts Obama 12 points ahead in Pennsylvania. McCain is effectively betting the farm on a state which looks like an Obama landslide. It is a strange choice. Colorado looks a lot easier than Pennsylvania. James Carville once famously said that Pennsylvania is Philadelphia and Pittsburgh with Alabama sandwiched in between. Maybe McCain is going to go all out to win the white working class men in the Alabama section of Pennsylvania. McCain can’t possibly do it on the economy. What’s left? Maybe run against the Wright/Ayers ticket? Any way you look at it, this has to be a desperation move.

Mr Incredible,
No one talks about Obama’s voting record with Dems because he is not claiming to be a Maverick. McCain makes that claim and his record disputes that. If Obama would have said he was a Maverick beleive me they would be eating him up over that. They are just simply pointing out the lies by McCain. It was he who called himself a Maverick. no one else. That is what he gets. Every one knows if elected it will more of the Bush era. No one wants that!!!.
By the way what is wrong with redistributing wealth. The ones complaining about it are as poor as i am. They should be thrilled that a candidate is finally worring about the poor and middle clas instead of the rich. Only 1% of the country is wealthy. You dont see a problem with that? If you dont then there is seriously something wrong with you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is Anyone interested in the fact that Sen Obama voted not once but 4 times against saving babies “born alive”? These are children that have survived attempted abortion. They were being discarded in soiled linen tubs or placed on a stainless steel tray and left to die by neglect. The fact that we actually had to pass a law against this says a lot about how far down America has come. Sen Obama has no value of life. What’s next? The elderly? The Handicapped? How can anyone want a man who would kill a child by torturing him or her to be his or her commander?
Sen Obama also wants to give illegal aliens driver’s licenses. Don’t take my word for it, check the primary debates. Apparently, he doesn’t remember that 13 of the19 terrorists that crashed planes into the twin towers and the pentagon had driver’s licenses. I don’t think he cares about the safety of the American people.
The economy isn’t very important when you do not feel safe because the president would make it easier for terrorists to “blend in”.

I think John McCain looked at how Bush, Jr. beat him in 2000 and took that as the winning playbook. He got right with social conservatives and thought he too could win a 50% + 1 election. Then a funny thing happened on the way to the polls. America woke up and saw what was going on under the Republican president and Republican Congress’ rule. The true Maverick McCain is long gone. He wants to go further than Bush on tax cuts for the uber-rich. He wants to continue the wrongheaded policies in Iraq that even W is abandoning, he wants to “deregulate healthcare like we did the banking industry.” Good grief – get out of the 20th century John.

This upcoming election is basically an exercise of formality because one can safely predict who will win even allowing for the Bradley effect.
Just ignore the rantings and insidious comments from everybody. They prove nothing with their actions or statements, except the fact that the truth is hard to swallow.
I had my share of 20 plus years of military experience and yet I differ from Senator McCain in that I let my actions speak and watch the repercussions of my speech and actions. Senator McCain is responsible for the conduct of his campain and the same goes with Senator Obama.
I think he blew a golden opportunity here in that he wasted too much time harping on Senator Obama’s character instead of offering us a wider and broader vision of his plans for the country. Surely, he faced an uphill battle with this current economic quagmire we are in and the fact that he is trying to replace a very unpopular President.

Can you name one first world nation that has every existed that does not meet your definition of socialist (progressive taxation)? Ever? Anywhere, any when, in the history of the world?

Wisconsin GOP Official Denounces McCain Robocalls, Endorses Obama!
The fact that she is a lifelong Republican — she left the Senate in 1994 and, until recently, was the longest woman serving senator in Wisconsin history — now crossing party lines is also of interest.
“I’m a lifelong Republican, but Senator Obama is the right leader for our country and will deliver the change we need,” Lorman said in a statement released by the state’s Democratic Party. “After taking a careful look at the qualities of both McCain and Obama and who would be best for our country, I found that Senator Obama’s ability to bridge the partisan divide to work toward solid solutions that will get our nation back on the right track meant he is the right choice this November.”

McCain and Palin have already scaled back on original ideas so why not scale back in Wisconsin, New Hampshire and Colorado. First they tried to climb on the Change slogan, now with the Joe The Plumber joke, they’re trying to jump on the middle class bandwagon. Too late, John you should have thought of that when you were busy voting for welfare for the rich over the last 26 years of your career.

An earlier poster keeps asking how often Barack voted with his party but seems to miss the point…had Sen. McCain ‘crossed the aisle’ as he constantly tells us he can do and voted with the dems, perhaps we wouldn’t be in this mess. The reason we are interested in Sen. McCain’s voting record is because President Bush, with whom he agrees, has been repeatedly wrong. Yet Sen.McCain keeps telling us that if something is wrong, he won’t support it…but he didn’t. Ever. Conclusion: John McCain will NOT stand up to his own party, is NOT a ‘maverick’ and WILL continue the same failed policies. If Barack voted for bills that would have reined in Wall Street, what does it matter that it was a dem bill? It was CORRECT. I’m voting for the guy who has been right, not the guy who keeps coming up with fun ways to re-define wrong. Read Colin Powell’s endorsement, please. The Republican mainstream have been abandoned by their candidates and I urge them to consider Obama/Biden.

However, you forget that it is that money that corporate boards agree to pay executives [you aren't proposing that people should not agree among themselves what compensations should be, are you?], and that nobody pockets the money they make. They invest it, and investment creates opportunities for jobs. If they are heavily taxed, they will take their money elsewhere.

No, you ignorant parrot, I have asked three very specific questions that, if you could answer, might add some support to your talking points:
1. Did the income tax rates under Clinton result in the elimination of job creation you claim will result from returning to them?
2. Did the capital gains tax rate Reagan instituted result in the elimination of job creation you claim will result from a rate higher than now but still lower than that 1986 rate?
3. Can you name a single first world nation (stable, free, prosperous) in the history of mankind that does fall under your definition of socialism (progressive taxation)?
These are not difficult questions, unless the talking points you are pushing have absolutely no basis nor support in reality.

The word is doo doo, and your candidate is deep in it because of lies, distortions, lack of imagination, no meaningful policies, and general grumpiness (didn’t he just come out for Obama? Oh, no, that was General Powell who up until that moment was a hero of the right).

For McCain to spend money campaigning anywhere, knowing he’s going to lose, is stupid. In fact, both McCain and Obama should donate the money they estimate to spend over the next two weeks to the homeless instead.

To the theme of the Beverly Hillbillies)
Come listen to a story about a man named McCain
Decided to run for President but forgot to bring his brain.
And then one day he was losing in the polls
So he brought in a woman hoping to smell just like a rose.
Sarah that is, Palin…………..Alaskan Governor……….Hockey Mom
Well the next thing you know John’s polls began to rise
But when he thought he had them, there came a big surprise
He thought he could win with just Wright and Bill Ayers
But the economy tanked and the country got the scares.
Stocks plummet……………..401k’s gone………..
Well they lost the debates in the view of peoples eyes
There message was off base but they kept spreading lies.
Joe the Plumber, ACORN and Socialism became their main selection
Which ended up costing them this 2008 election.
Bad Choice……………… Stick to the real issues.

4. Close doesn’t count in politics.

Question for Republican comrades:
1: where was the “buying” the election with the incredible fundraising argument when Republican party outspent dems 3 to 1 during Gingrich era?
2: How does voter registration fraud = voter fraud when Mickey Mouse cannot show up to the polls?
3: How does a middle-class tax cut = socialism when it does not involve any government control/ownership of industry?
4. Why are the Republicans not “socialist” when the feds just took an ownership in all the larger banks under a Republican President and Secretary of Treasury?
5. Why are Dems considered “tax and spend” when the largest growth in government occurred under Republican control?
6. Why would a continuation of upper bracket tax breaks benefit the economy when the approach has led to a recession every time it has been implemented?
7. Why would a lower/middle class tax break not incraase economic productivity in a consumer based economy where 90% of all consumers are in the lower/middle calss (i.e. more money to spend Genuis)
8. Why will you not admit that your party is inept given the alst 8 years of control and absolute degredation of our economic/political/social quality of life under that control?
9. Why do so many of you actually vote against your own best interest, ie. Joe the Plumber that would get better health care and lower taxes under Obama plan.
10. How in the world can you actually believe that Palin is qualified to be vice president/president?

I was not an Obama supporter, but the negative tone and nastiness of the McCain/Palen supporters as well as the many flubs by both McCain and Palin, not to mention their lack of any significant educational achievements, has made me and many other Independents Obama supporters. Both parties need to nominate and select candidates that do America proud and that strongly encourage their supporters to be respectful and tolerant of others views. It is apparent not only by the amounts of money and the number of donors to his campaign, but also the people of other countries that we depend upon as our world partners are wanting Obama to win this contest so that America can get back on track and live up to our promise as a Nation with high ideals and brave leaders. Everyone has the right to their opinion and can express it however they choose here in America. But if you feel so strongly that you express yourselves in such negative, ugly terms, can’t you also have the strength to use your real name so your neighbors can be proud to have you as their upstanding neighbor.

Drew Hoffman: The reason Arizona is turning against McCain is because of the number of seniors in Arizona retirement communities. McCain is for privatization of Social Security and that is not playing well with the seniors after the stock market crash.

Yes, he will tax people more so that he can take the money and give it to people who just can’t wait for the free money, not to invest, rather to buy bling and wine coolers and pink Excalades to show off to the boys in the ‘hood.

How does returning the top tax bracket from 35% to 39% make someone a socialist? It was just 39% within this same decade! Stop drinking that Hannity/Rush kool-aid and use some common sense. Are all taxes socialist? Is it socialist to tax poor people and give tax breaks to the ultra-rich and corporations? Do you advocate for no taxes? Who pays for roads, fire crews, bridges, schools, hospitals, libraries, police? Close your eyes and open your mind.

I have taken it upon myself, as a public service, to take down every McCain sign that I see littering the public property on the sides of our roads. There’s a lot of Sununu litter also. Takin’ it down!

89 GTA: “”We will get attacked with Obama as president” – Joe Biden”
Use of quotation marks as you did indicates that you are repeating what the person said verbatim. In fact, you are not, you are changing the wording and the meaning of Joe Bidens words. As we are coming to expect from Republicans, you are lying and it is as easy as googling up an actual, reported, and recorded transcript of what Joe Biden DID say:
“we’re gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy.” Joe Biden
If you interpret that as an attack, fine, readers can decide on your comprehension skills themselves (hopefully after reviewing the context of the above), but misreporting the words spoken is slander and fundamentally dishonest.

In this way, Libs intend to bring down the “big boys” rather than try to raise themselves up to the higher standard. This is the nature of Lib “discussion”: drag down others to their level, not raise themselves up to a higher level.

Mr. Incredible:
You must have missed the great opportunity I offered you to provide support for your arguments, so here it is again:
1. Did the income tax rates under Clinton result in the elimination of job creation that you claim above will result from returning to them?
2. Did the capital gains tax rate Reagan instituted result in the elimination of job creation that you claim above will result from a rate higher than now but still lower than that 1986 rate?
3. Can you name a single first world nation (stable, free, prosperous) in the history of mankind that does fall under your definition of socialism (progressive taxation)?
These are not difficult questions, unless the talking points you are pushing have absolutely no basis nor support in reality.

Russians reject McCain cash plea
The Russian mission to the UN in New York says it has turned down a request from John McCain to help fund his presidential campaign.
Ambassador to the UN Vitaly Churkin and others received standard mail-outs asking them to help “stop the Democrats from seizing control of Washington”.
Spokesmen for the McCain campaign and the mission accepted the letters were “a computer error”.
Mr McCain has been a strong opponent of Russia on human rights and Georgia.
Brian Rogers, a spokesman for the McCain campaign, told the BBC the campaign had not itself received any complaints from the mission and that “it sounds like they’re having a little fun at our expense”.
“It’s just an error,” he said.
US presidential candidates are legally barred from accepting foreign donations.
Funding denial
The letter to Mr Churkin has a return form which carries the words: “I am proud to stand with our Republican candidates as the Obama Democrats and their wealthy liberal backers focus their attacks squarely on defeating Republicans and gaining control of our government.
“I want to do all I can to help stop the Democrats from seizing control of Washington and implementing their radically liberal policy for our nation.”
The form then has a space for a signature over the typed name, Vitaly Churkin.
On the copy the Russians released, the space is unsigned.
Ruslan Bakhtin, a spokesman for Russia’s UN mission, said: “It’s evident that [the letter] was a mistake. It happens.”
But he also stressed: “Russian authorities are in no way engaged in funding political campaigns or political activities abroad.”
Mr McCain has opposed Moscow on a number of measures.
To evade Russia’s veto in the UN Security Council he has proposed setting up an alternative body: the League of Democracies.
During the Russia-Georgia conflict this summer, he said: “We are all Georgians now.”
He has also proposed throwing Russia out of the G8 over its human rights record.

Ask yourself this— Obama’s bank has always been larger than McCains, but he has yet to really pull ahead of him. With the Big Bucks that Obama has you would think he would be alot further ahead in the polls. Maybe they aren’t spending it in the right place? like acorn? I also agree he has all of the main stream media providing him with ‘free’ advertising as well, but he has yet to really make much progress in the polls. If you don’t think Obama’s association with Acorn, Ayers, Wright, Frank Marshall Davis, Rezco, then you must have been smoking something right along with ‘barry’ obama years ago. Most people live in communities which adheres to what they believe — If I had a an admitted domestic terrorist in my neighborhood, i would put my house up for sale before it looses value because others might find out…most people wouldn’t want to live next to other criminals– why would they want to live near a guy like Ayers or better yet, have him and his terrorist wife throw a party for me. I also go to a church that teaches the similar beliefs as mine– after 20 years of attending a church you can’t tell me obama didn’t know what his paster was about. Should I go on? Have you also noticed that he either disassocites himself with these people when the going gets tough, or he uses the same line over and over– they are not part of my campaign and they are not one of my campaign advisors? He never comes out with the whole truth–until he gets squeezed and confronted and still he only tells bits and peices. Democrates have had the maority in congress for the last 2 years, they have overseen the financial aspects of our country, Barney Frank is a democrate, Chris Dodd is a Democrate, the democrates push to get these mortgages offered to people who could not afford them. John McCain tried to warn congress and the president that fannie and freddie were going to be in trouble a couple of years back and tried to get stronger regulation over them.. to be knocked down by democrates. Now is not the time to put another Democrate in office to raise taxes, one with little senate experience, no foreign policy experience….

If that threatens the economy,a new agreement can include the State which can set the terms for the help, IF the corporation wants to survive. The corporation doesn’t have to wanna survive and it doesn’t have to take the help.

It’s our Presidency and we the people are helping him buy it so stop whinning.
Obama’s $600 million is largely from small donors giving $200.00 or less.
McCain and the RNC have gotten close to $120 Millions from Repugs contributing $25,000.00 to $70,000.00 and all working in the Securities Industry which is responsible for our current Economic Crisis.

To the Poster who claimed that Obama has not accomplished anything in his life:
That statement is patently false. First accomplishment: First African American to be elected President of Harvard Law Review. Not even Bill Clinton, a Rhodes Scholar, has accomplished that. Second: First African American nominee of a major political party. Third: The political candidate who has raised the most money by far. And he has accomplished more than that, but I’ll just stop here. Those three examples alone are sufficient to prove that you are either a liar or someone who is so totally bias that you are in denial.

I offer an anecdotal experience here that may very well explain some of McCain’s decline in the polls over the past two months. I was at my dentist this morning, and the dental hygienist and I had a brief political discussion. She said that she was from a staunchly Republican family, and I, not wishing to give offense, said that I thought that McCain was basically a decent guy. I was surprised at her reaction. “No,” she said, “He has been running a distracting and dirty campaign, and his choice of Palin shows that he lacks the skills to make good choices.” She than informed me that she and several members of her “staunchly Republican family” were voting for Obama. As I see it, McCain has made two major mistakes–he chose Sarah Palin as his running mate and he has determined to run a largely negative campaign on fringe issues that nobody is really interested in. That is why I really believe that Obama will win on November 4th!

John McCain agreed to accept public funding only for his campaign, like every other president since watergate… Unlike Obama who renigged on his private funding agreement and opted to go after private funding… which is where he got all his $$.. so of course mccain is not going to have as much!

I’m a Republican. I can’t talk about the economy because Obama wants to spread the wealth (sounds like a DAMN good idea to me) and McSame wants to follow the lead of…BUSH and make his tax cuts to the wealthy permanent!?! I can’t talk about experience now because my candidate is 103 years old and he ridiculously picked a running mate who I wouldn’t hire to wash my car, much less be in line for the Presidency. I can’t talk about voting records because my candidate has voted with Bush over 90% of the time. I can’t talk about the war because my candidate wants to stay in Iraq forever and Obama is promising to end the war in Iraq, yet another damn good idea. Soooo…the only thing I can do now is talk trash about Obama! Did you know he is half black?! Did you know Obama’s own white mother screwed a black guy, resulting in Obama?! Did you know Obama was in the same room in the 70′s (when he was 8 years old) with a terrorist?! Let’s focus on Obama and not my candidate, PLEASE! :)

Mr. Incredible: “Go to Cuba and see how “spread the wealth” works there.”
We’ve all heard the talking points, could you perhaps offer a real world fact that supports your position? And suggesting that a 3-4% difference in the upper tax brackets is the difference between the US and Cuba (a dictatorship in case no one let you know) is insulting to our intelligence and, frankly, makes you look incredibly naive and uninformed.
1. Did the income tax rates under Clinton result in the elimination of job creation that you claim above will result from returning to them?
2. Did the capital gains tax rate Reagan instituted result in the elimination of job creation that you claim above will result from a rate higher than now but still lower than that 1986 rate?
3. Can you name a single first world nation (stable, free, prosperous) in the history of mankind that does NOT fall under your definition of socialism (progressive taxation)?
These are not difficult questions, unless the talking points you are pushing have absolutely no basis nor support in reality.

Even one of my favorite stars Matt Damon sounded like an idiot with his disney movie theory on Sarah Palin. These people are crass, hateful people who judge people by their cover and not by substance.. john mccain is not as pretty as Obama, so lets disrequard his record, Sara Palin gained a lot of interest which took some away from their beloved Obama, so she must be a b___ch. Mr. Incredible,
I understand your aversion to “socialism”. Therefore, I suggest that you rid yourself of any vestige of the socialist taint and immediately do the following:
1) If, God forbid, you should lose your job during the coming recession, I expect you to decline unemployment benefits. After all, those corporations that you so laud have had their “wealth redistributed” so that the States can provide benefits to the “lazy” (i.e. those unemployed through no fault of their own).
2) I also expect that when you retire, you will, of course, return uncashed all of your Social Security checks to the Government as well as do without Medicare. After all, the program has the word “social” in it! Too bad that your wealth has already been redistributed through social security contributions that you have made over the years, but I’m sure that you will not want to benefit from any “socialist” program!

As for Fannie and Freddy I would be willing to bet you have no idea what an underwriting guideline is, much less what Fannie and Freddy’s are. You can knock sharing the wealth all you want but helping the poor get better opportunities and helping the middle class, send their kids to college is not anything to be ashamed of. An America where everyone wins is the America that I want to live in. I guess you selfish wealthy all white Republicans are happy to keep things the way they are. Send rich kids too college and poor kids to go fight a war that was started on lies and deceit. Let the poor and middle class drown in student loans, unfair mortgages that were sold illegally, and then tell that they are lazy and need to work harder. Go to the factories, face to face and tell them that. Tell them it is their fault that their companies made bad decisions but the blue collar hard working employees should get laid off instead of the stock option glaring executives who put them in this position. Its time you looked at the real story of what made America great and take a look at what is unfolding now. Its ridiculous to wake up and concisously think that America is the same place that made us a beacon of high hopes and success. Call me unAmerican, call me a socialist, call me anything you want as long as you can go to sleep tonight. Your living a lie. This is not even about politics anymore. This is about human kindness and the betterment of all.

Obama has schmoozed and ingratiated voters with a smooth-talk class-warfare agenda right out of Saul Alinsky’s radical, revolutionary, grassroots, community organizer’s “Rules for Radicals.”
He added corporate welfare to help the medicine go down! :(
Enjoy the demise of America if he becomes POTUS.
And, you will not get your country back. You will just give it away!
Obama only cares about his own lust for power and his next conquest! :(
If Money and the media elect Obama, we can all look forward to “Midnight in America!”
Because, Obama will weaken America and strengthen a UN type organization, with real power, that he can lead as a global dictator! :(
POTUS is just another step to Obama’s real dream! As Farrakhan stated: Obama is Messiah!

Don’t you pay into unemployment? Every state is different. In some states you can quit your job and file for unemployment. When was the last time you looked at your paystub? I don’t know if everyone else sees what I see. Senator McCain is about the most dishonest candidate I’ve seen run for the Presidency, since his fellow Republican, Tricky Nixon. They’ve been both dishonest and disingenuous to the core, in almost every facet of their lives. The real McCain is right there for everyone to see. He’s too stupid to hide it. What you see, what you hear, that’s what you get. Loose with the facts, repeatedly making mistakes, lying profusely with a straight face, angry, petty, and basically a very unhappy disgruntled hypocritical man. He is truly a stereotypical “Get off my lawn!!” kind of guy. He’s uncomfortable with himself and it shows. He can’t even look you in the eye. His confidence is really a false bravado. His mind is undeveloped, and his focus is narrow and constrained. He’s preoccupied with the past, and can’t see the future our country desperately needs.

I guess if making over $100,000 a year makes me a loser, then I’m a big loser! And, although I freely acknowedlge that I may lack knowledge in certain areas, I, at least, do not lack civility–a commodity which appears to me more lacking in the McCain supporters on this website than the Obama supporters. By the way, my possible errors (yes, States can differ on how they “redistribute wealth”) do not detract from the basic argument–that it would be sheer hypocrisy for Mr. Intelligent to accept anything from these “socialist” programs. Your tactics remind me McCain’s tactics–when you can’t deal directly with the point, then attack the point maker on a personal level.

Republican politicians in Washington as a group headed by President George W. Bush and steadfastly supported by John McCain do not deserve another four years of stewardship of our economy and foreign policy. They have been given a chance by the good natured American people and for 8 long years they screwed things up over and over again. Now our citizens are suffering and we are one of the least respected nations on earth. What a shame. It is funny how Republicans always mess things up and it takes the Democrats to set things straight again. You would recall that in recent memory, Ronald Reagan and H.W. Bush ran up huge federal budget deficits. It took clinton and significant bipartisan support to get things right again, including accumulating a huge federal budget surplus. Ironically, reactionary conservatives complain about big government and over the last 8 years, it has been this very reactionary conservative politicians led by George W. Bush that have presided over the largest government in American history. The hypocricy is simply too much to ignore. I guess the cyclical nature of things will continue. It is going to take another Democrat, this time Barack Obama, working across party lines to get things right again for our econonmy and restore our international reputation.

@Fred Riek
Bravo sir, it is Independants that decide every important election, and that means choosing the most qualified candidate regardless of party affiliation.
It is the reason Obama will likely win the national election; it is the reason a blue state like Washington might end up with a Republican governor next year.
Unlike the party faithful, we are concerned about the issues, not pundit talking points & sound bites, we want substantive discussion not distractions and mudslinging, and we want to choose leaders for what they stand for and not what the opposition says about them.
I supported John McCain for president in 2000, and saw some pretty despicable tactics used against him by his own party which cost him the primary. But his campaign this year has been a disaster, from the selection of his running mate, to his confusing response to the economic issues, to the smear tactics he has resorted to in the final weeks. The maverick that I once repsected for his ability to compromise and get things done in Congress, became a caricature of his former self, and this year, it cost him my vote.
I do hope that if McCain loses the election, that he returns to the Senate and goes back to fighting earmarks and keeping wasteful spending in check, because I liked that John McCain a lot better… before he began using the race-baiting character assassination tactics that were once used against him.

we must not speak to soon, this election is not over, and people are already believing they dont need to go to the polls. I don’t believe in speaking to soon, giving the country that we live in, and the under handed, cheap shots, and down right dirty tactics that can be done by republicans.

AP INVESTIGATION: Palin children traveled on state
By BRETT J. BLACKLEDGE, ADAM GOLDMAN and MATT APUZZO, Associated Press Writers Brett J. Blackledge, Adam Goldman And Matt Apuzzo, Associated Press Writers – 37 mins ago AP – Republican vice presidential candidate Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin waves as she steps on stage to talk before …
Play Video Video: Palin to focus on ‘reform’ CNN Play Video Video: Loveland Rally Attendee Calls Palin A ‘Dynamo’ CBS4 Denver Play Video Video: Albright backs Obama CNN ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Gov. Sarah Palin charged the state for her children to travel with her, including to events where they were not invited, and later amended expense reports to specify that they were on official business.
The charges included costs for hotel and commercial flights for three daughters to join Palin to watch their father in a snowmobile race, and a trip to New York, where the governor attended a five-hour conference and stayed with 17-year-old Bristol for five days and four nights in a luxury hotel.
In all, Palin has charged the state $21,012 for her three daughters’ 64 one-way and 12 round-trip commercial flights since she took office in December 2006. In some other cases, she has charged the state for hotel rooms for the girls.
Alaska law does not specifically address expenses for a governor’s children. The law allows for payment of expenses for anyone conducting official state business.
As governor, Palin justified having the state pay for the travel of her daughters — Bristol, 17; Willow, 14; and Piper, 7 — by noting on travel forms that the girls had been invited to attend or participate in events on the governor’s schedule.
But some organizers of these events said they were surprised when the Palin children showed up uninvited, or said they agreed to a request by the governor to allow the children to attend.
Several other organizers said the children merely accompanied their mother and did not participate. The trips enabled Palin, whose main state office is in the capital of Juneau, to spend more time with her children.
“She said any event she can take her kids to is an event she tries to attend,” said Jennifer McCarthy, who helped organize the June 2007 Family Day Celebration picnic in Ketchikan that Piper attended with her parents.
State Finance Director Kim Garnero told The Associated Press she has not reviewed the Palins’ travel expense forms, so she could not say whether the daughters’ travel with their mother would meet the definition of official business.
After Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain chose Palin his running mate and reporters asked for the records, Palin ordered changes to previously filed expense reports for her daughters’ travel.
In the amended reports, Palin added phrases such as “First Family attending” and “First Family invited” to explain the girls’ attendance.
“The governor said, ‘I want the purpose and the reason for this travel to be clear,’” said Linda Perez, state director of administrative services.
When Palin released her family’s tax records as part of her vice presidential campaign, some tax experts questioned why she did not report the children’s state travel reimbursements as income.
The Palins released a review by a Washington attorney who said state law allows the children’s travel expenses to be reimbursed and not taxed when they conduct official state business.
Taylor Griffin, a McCain-Palin campaign spokesman, said Palin followed state policy allowing governors to charge for their children’s travel. He said the governor’s office has invitations requesting the family to attend some events, but he said he did not have them to provide.
In October 2007, Palin brought daughter Bristol along on a trip to New York for a women’s leadership conference. Plane tickets from Anchorage to La Guardia Airport for $1,385.11 were billed to the state, records show, and mother and daughter shared a room for four nights at the $707.29-per-night Essex House hotel, which overlooks Central Park.
The event’s organizers said Palin asked if she could bring her daughter.
Alexis Gelber, who organized Newsweek’s Third Annual Women & Leadership Conference, said she does not know how Bristol ended up attending. Gelber said invitees usually attend alone, but some ask if they can bring a relative or friend.
Griffin, the campaign spokesman, said he believes someone with the event personally sent an e-mail to Bristol inviting her, but he did not have it to provide. Records show Palin also met with Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Goldman Sachs representatives and visited the New York Stock Exchange.
In January, the governor, Willow and Piper showed up at the Alaska Symphony of Seafood Buffet, an Anchorage gala to announce winners of an earlier seafood competition.
“She was just there,” said James Browning, executive director of Alaska Fisheries Development Foundation, which runs the event. Griffin said the governor’s office received an invitation that was not specifically addressed to anyone.
When Palin amended her children’s expense reports, she listed a role for the two girls at the function — “to draw two separate raffle tickets.”
In the original travel form, Palin listed a number of events that her children attended and said they were there “in official capacity helping.” She did not identify any specific roles for the girls.
In July, the governor charged the state $2,741.26 to take Bristol and Piper to Philadelphia for a meeting of the National Governors Association. The girls had their own room for five nights at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel for $215.46 a night, expense records show.
Expense forms describe the girls’ official purpose as “NGA Governor’s Youth Programs and family activities.” But those programs were activities designed to keep children busy, a service provided by the NGA
to accommodate governors and their families, NGA spokeswoman Jodi Omear said.
In addition to the commercial flights, the children have traveled dozens of times with Palin on a state plane. For these flights, the total cost of operating the plane, at $971 an hour, was about $55,000, according to state flight logs. The cost of operating the state plane does not increase when the children join their mother.
The organizer of an American Heart Association luncheon on Feb. 15 in Fairbanks said Palin asked to bring daughter Piper to the event, and the organizer said she was surprised when Palin showed up with daughter Willow and Bristol as well.
The three Palin daughters shared a room separate from their mother at the Princess Lodge in Fairbanks for two nights, at a cost to the state of $129 per night.
The luncheon took place before Palin’s husband, Todd, finished fourth in the 2,000-mile Iron Dog snowmobile race, also in Fairbanks. The family greeted him at the finish line.
When Palin showed up at the luncheon with not just Piper but also Willow and Bristol, organizers had to scramble to make room at the main table, said Janet Bartels, who set up the event.
“When it’s the governor, you just make it happen,” she said.
The state is already reviewing nearly $17,000 in per diem payments to Palin for more than 300 nights she slept at her own home, 40 miles from her satellite office in Anchorage.
Tony Knowles, a Democratic former governor of Alaska who lost to Palin in a 2006 bid to reclaim the job, said he never charged the state for his three children’s commercial flights or claimed their travel as official state business.
Knowles, who was governor from 1994 to 2002, is the only other recent Alaska governor who had school-age children while in office.
“There was no valid reason for the children to be along on state business,” said Knowles, a supporter of Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama. “I cannot recall any instance during my eight years as governor where it would have been appropriate to claim they performed state business.”
Knowles said he brought his children to one NGA event while in office but didn’t charge the state for their trip.
In February 2007, the three girls flew from Juneau to Anchorage on Alaska Airlines. Palin charged the state for the $519.30 round-trip ticket for each girl, and noted on the expense form that the daughters accompanied her to “open the start of the Iron Dog race.”
The children and their mother then watched as Todd Palin and other racers started the competition, which Todd won that year. Palin later had the relevant expense forms changed to describe the girls’ business as “First Family official starter for the start of the Iron Dog race.”
The Palins began charging the state for commercial flights after the governor kept a 2006 campaign promise to sell a jet bought by her predecessor.
Palin put the jet up for sale on eBay, a move she later trumpeted in her star-making speech at the Republican National Convention, and it was ultimately sold by the state at a loss.
That left only one high-performance aircraft deemed safe enough for her to use — a 1980 twin-engine King Air assigned to the public safety agency but, according to flight logs, out of service for maintenance and repairs about a third of the time Palin has been governor.

Dear Mr. Incredible,
Socialism is actually working quit well in Cuba. They have a higher literacy rate than the rest of the world, one of the lowest infant mortality rates in the world, and a very good, Western educated (many in this country) health care system. The thing that would make Cuba a better place than it is now would be to dissolve the trade embargoes that are hurting the common people there. Socialism is also working in several European countries, to one extant or another. You should really visit these countries, or at least talk to the people that live there, and not just read propaganda by the corporate elite, and see for yourself what the differences really are. We spend a higher amount per capita for health care in the US, and yet not everyone is covered. Our education is faltering. The more socialist countries have their own problems, but you seem to try and just blanket socialism as “evil”
You say socialism is a bad thing; to take the money from some and give to others. That’s not actually how I’ve read Sen. Obama’s tax plan. He want’s the top two tier’s of the tax payer’s in this country to pay a slightly higher tax so that the rest of this country can keep a bit in their pockets. This would barely be noticeable to the wealthy, and yet to the less fortunate could be a huge help. They could buy groceries, pay mortgages, afford to keep their car, pay bills. The thing you don’t seem to understand is that by doing this Sen. Obama would be making it to where the wealthy could continue to make more money during this economic slowdown than if these policies were not put in place.
On the contrary, giving tax breaks to the wealthy during economic slow down helps no one since they are not going to reinvest the money until the markets stabilize anyways. Would you invest a dollar if there was a good indication you would only get fifty cents back?
And just for note, I will not be voting for either of the “two” parties, as I don’t believe there are only two evils. I’m sure come Nov. 4th I can find an evil that fits my liking far more.

Watch the short video “The Best Tax Plan for Small Business” @
http://abcnews.go.com/search?searchtext=tax%20plans&type=
It compares the Obama and McCain tax plans (and, despite the title, it’s not just about small business). It’s just a 2 1/2 minute informational video, and it’s not inflammatory or partisan.
I think you might find it worthwhile, as you get ready to vote on November 4th.

“Socialism is actually working quit well in Cuba.” You are incredibly naive!!! They are all poor as dogs, only the political elite are living well. Yeah, free schools and free healthcare, at the expense of next to zero salaries, widespread prostitution, corrupt political system, etc.

Poor Palin had to appologize for the real American comment. Guess she forgot that her own husband was a member of the Alaskan Independent Party that wanted to break away from the USA. The same Alaskan Independent party that would not and will not Pledge Allegiance to the American Flag. Yep she was married to Todd while he was a member. Of course when she ran for mayor he changed his party affiliation. Or was it when she ran for Governor. Oh well, how can she make a comment about Real American when she is married to the man who did not want to be labled an American while a member of his Alaskan Independent Political Party?

“This would barely be noticeable to the wealthy, and yet to the less fortunate could be a huge help. They could buy groceries, pay mortgages, afford to keep their car, pay bills.”
They would buy more toys that they should not have in the first place, big LCD TVs, satellite TV, big cars, buy mortgages that they should not have in the first place and other things that got them in the trouble in the first place. The current financial fiasco is the direct result of loosers living beyond their means, and the idiots who sold them that idea (and mortgages, and credit cards)

Robocall about McCain……….”Did you know John McCain finished 894 out of 899 in a Class that he only got into because of his dad and Granddad’s military ties. Did you know he crashed 3 jets before he was shotdown over VietNam and that he ran to the Officers Quarters as 130 people died trying to put out a fire on the USS Forresstal. Did you know he dumped his crippled wife to marry a rich, drug addicted one. Did you know he used to take the family on vacations on Charles Keatings private jet and then led the charge to deregulate Savings and Loans whose bailout cost the US taxpayer BILLIONS of dollars.Did you know his VP choice thinks the earth is 6,000 years old(she read it in a book).

Chad may want to read David Stockman’s book on Reaganomics. I studied the reagan/bush administration as a graduate student. My commentary can be taken for what it is a commentary but is predicated upon facts. Reagan’s illconceived strategic defense initiative (star wars) balooned the federal deficit (which you and I are paying for today). He could have used that deficit spending (real money) to invest in programs to lesson our dependence on foreign oil.

“Mr. Incredible” and his ilk amaze me. Their rantings become louder and louder the closer we get to election day, and I believe it’s because they know theirs is a lost cause. Senator Obama’s victory will NOT be the result of a liberal press bias or because of the millions he has raised — in amazingly small increments from regular Americans. It WILL BE because the American voting public has tired of the Republican Party’s fake conversativism and its campaign of smear and racist hatred. I am a registered independent, and it’s those things — plus the selection of an inept one-half term governor as running mate — that drives this Nebraskan to vote for Senator Obama. PS: Mr. Incredible — I really don’t give two hoots how many times Obama has voted with Pelosi and the Democratic party. That’s because at this point in time I don’t see them as nearly as evil — not too strong a word — as the Republican Party. And no, I am neither liberal nor socialist. Just a middle-of-the-road realist.

That would be good for the country. If Macains campagin is any clue as to how he would run the country then it would be better if he lost big.

Anyone who harkens back to the Reagan years MAYBE does not remember them for the things it included. Star Wars Project in which massive amounts of money was sucked down a dark hole, the pandemic AIDS was completely ignored, crack was allowed to gain a huge foothold, inner cities looked like third world countries. Yeah, those are the good ole days for ya!!

Posted by: GEN X | October 21, 2008, 6:37 pm 6:37 pm

Don’t worry Mack.. it will be over soon enough. In Florida, early voters turned out in record numbers.. 1/4 of the number of total early voters in 2004 showed up the first day of early voting this year alone. They are expecting record turnouts across the state.. and everyone knows, when Obama wins Florida, it’s just a matter of waiting for the fat lady to sing.
We are witnessing a truly historic event in history. More people have crossed party lines than ever before in history to cast their ballots for Obama. There is indeed a reason for that, and for those who are unable or unwilling to see it will at least still be able to say they participated, even if on the wrong side of history and the rest of America.

At some point the RNC has to start running ads distancing the House and Senate candidates from the McCain/Palin campaign. The losing Presidential ticket is now drawing down races all the way to the bottom of the ballots. It may already be too late for the Republicans to stop the damage to their House and Senate margins.

STOP THE TWISTING!
THIS IS WHAT BIDEN SAID:
“Mark my words,” the Democratic vice presidential nominee warned at the second of his two Seattle fundraisers Sunday. “It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. The world is looking. We’re about to elect a brilliant 47-year-old senator president of the United States of America. Remember I said it standing here if you don’t remember anything else I said. Watch, we’re gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy.”
“I can give you at least four or five scenarios from where it might originate,” Biden said to Emerald City supporters, mentioning the Middle East and Russia as possibilities. “And he’s gonna need help. And the kind of help he’s gonna need is, he’s gonna need you – not financially to help him – we’re gonna need you to use your influence, your influence within the community, to stand with him. Because it’s not gonna be apparent initially, it’s not gonna be apparent that we’re right.”
Not only will the next administration have to deal with foreign affairs issues, Biden warned, but also with the current economic crisis.
“Gird your loins,” Biden told the crowd. “We’re gonna win with your help, God willing, we’re gonna win, but this is not gonna be an easy ride. This president, the next president, is gonna be left with the most significant task. It’s like cleaning the Augean stables, man. This is more than just, this is more than – think about it, literally, think about it – this is more than just a capital crisis, this is more than just markets. This is a systemic problem we have with this economy.”
The Delaware lawmaker managed to rake in an estimated $1 million total from his two money hauls at the downtown Sheraton, the same hotel where four years ago Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., clinched the Democratic nomination. Despite warning about the difficulties the next administration will face, Biden said the Democratic ticket is equipped to meet the challenges head on.
“I’ve forgotten more about foreign policy than most of my colleagues know, so I’m not being falsely humble with you. I think I can be value added, but this guy has it,” the Senate Foreign Relations chairman said of Obama. “This guy has it. But he’s gonna need your help. Because I promise you, you all are gonna be sitting here a year from now going, ‘Oh my God, why are they there in the polls? Why is the polling so down? Why is this thing so tough?’ We’re gonna have to make some incredibly tough decisions in the first two years. So I’m asking you now, I’m asking you now, be prepared to stick with us. Remember the faith you had at this point because you’re going to have to reinforce us.”
“There are gonna be a lot of you who want to go, ‘Whoa, wait a minute, yo, whoa, whoa, I don’t know about that decision’,” Biden continued. “Because if you think the decision is sound when they’re made, which I believe you will when they’re made, they’re not likely to be as popular as they are sound. Because if they’re popular, they’re probably not sound.”
Biden emphasized that the mountainous Afghanistan-Pakistan border is of particular concern, with Osama bin Laden “alive and well” and Pakistan “bristling with nuclear weapons.”
“You literally can see what these kids are up against, our kids in that region,” Biden said in recalling when his helicopter was forced down due to a snowstorm there. “The place is crawling with al Qaeda. And it’s real.”
“We do not have the military capacity, nor have we ever, quite frankly, in the last 20 years, to dictate outcomes,” he cautioned. “It’s so much more important than that. It’s so much more complicated than that. And Barack gets it.”
After speaking for just over a quarter of an hour, Biden noticed the media presence in the back of the small ballroom.
“I probably shouldn’t have said all this because it dawned on me that the press is here,” he joked.
“All kidding aside, these guys have left us in a God-awful place,” he then said of the Bush regime, promptly wrapping up his remarks. “We have the ability to straighten it out. It’s gonna take a little bit of time, so I ask you to stay with us. Stay with us.”

If they wanna take their wealth and companys elsewhere I guess they arent true americans and they wont be needing all the money.

Tons of newly reg. mostly young voters that only have pre-paid or cell phones cant even be polled. I tell you, after listening to the two idiots Hennedy and Rush, I can see why McCain is loosing. The rep party has become such a party of the past. They still use fear tactics and smear as their campaine base. I think for the GOP to win in the future they will need to open their minds a little and campaine with hope and optimism. Sad because I liked the Rep party of the Reagan years. Not the same animal. If Obama wanted to emulate McCain’s attack ads, we would hear robocalls in the Heartland informing America’s patriots that McCain:
a) was in the pocket of former Lincoln Savings & Loan president & criminal Charles Keating;
b) was buddies with fellow criminal Republicans Ted Stevens, Tom Delay, Scooter Libby, Trent Lott, Jack Abrahamoff, Larry Craig, Mark Foley…etc;
c) accepted political donations from the Watergate criminal G. Gordon Liddy;
d) picked a runningmate mired in scandal (Troopergate) and has acted “unethical” according to her own people;
e) gave up information to his communist captors in North Vietnam, whereas other American prisoners did NOT;
McCain has a lot to answer for, but Obama hasn’t stooped to that level. You can’t call yourself a patriot when you vote for criminals.

‘”Socialism is actually working quit well in Cuba.” You are incredibly naive!!! They are all poor as dogs, only the political elite are living well. Yeah, free schools and free healthcare, at the expense of next to zero salaries, widespread prostitution, corrupt political system, etc.’
Again, I suggest you go to these countries first. I agree that they are not a perfect society, but they are not as you try to portray. One of the biggest problems I have with my fellow Americans is that the self-imposed idiocy. Go forth and learn from your own eyes, because most of what you’ve read is spin.
‘”This would barely be noticeable to the wealthy, and yet to the less fortunate could be a huge help. They could buy groceries, pay mortgages, afford to keep their car, pay bills.”
They would buy more toys that they should not have in the first place, big LCD TVs, satellite TV, big cars, buy mortgages that they should not have in the first place and other things that got them in the trouble in the first place. The current financial fiasco is the direct result of loosers living beyond their means, and the idiots who sold them that idea (and mortgages, and credit cards)’
This was a system brought about when President George W. Bush told everyone to continue to spend like nothing had changed while we were involved in two conflicts. The government can not afford two conflicts while consumer spending is not retarded to keep market prices down. When both the government and the public are consuming the same basic items at record rates the market prices for these items rise at dramatic rates. on top of this, buying big screen tv’s and other products are how business’ actually make money, and create or just maintain jobs. If people stop buying tv’s and cars then companies don’t need people making them, so less people have jobs, and then fewer people have money to spend, so companies make less profit, and the wealthy make less money. It still comes down to the fact that tax breaks to the wealthy at this time, with the markets as unstable as they are, when they are not going to reinvest anyway, is not going to help any economic bracket of our country except the wealthy(and even there it’s minimal), while tax cuts to the middle and lower class help everyone. Again stop listening to spin and take some time to learn more about your own economic system.

It amazes me that anyone could say ABC and all other TV outlets with the exception of Fox News are leaning to the Democrats. Fox and Russ Limbaugh can spin good grass into cow dung. Fox spins all the good news to try to make it bad. FCC should take a close look at the Fox Inc. and Limbaugh and send them a right heafty fine for out right lieing.

Republicans and Independents need to think carefully about their vote. There is a lot more at stake than just our current economy. The next President will probably appoint at least two Supreme Court Justices that will serve for decades. Do we really want a semi-socialist doing that? Also Obama has already stated that he will drastically reduce research on new military weapons systems and technology. If he does it may take us decades to rebuild our military.

This election is about whether we will have a recession or a depression. There is an old economics joke about the difference between a recession and a depression. The punch line is that a recession is when you are out of work and a depression is when I am out of work. Last week I was talking with a friend who has a small business that employs about 20 people. He is pretty sure that times will be tough next year. He said that if McCain is elected he thinks things will turn around next year so he will try to hang on. However he believes that if Obama is elected his taxes will go up and his business will go down to the point where he will probably have to lay off about half his people. Then he made the remark that he would start with those employees with Obama stickers on their cars because they helped cause it. Many small business owners and professionals are very concerned about Obama’s tax and spend policies and making plans to cut back if he is elected. I can’t believe that so many workers are willing to vote themselves out of a job.

==When Obama said share the wealth, he was speaking of taxes.==
Yes, he will tax people more so that he can take the money and give it to people who just can’t wait for the free money, not to invest, rather to buy bling and wine coolers and pink Excalades to show off to the boys in the ‘hood.

Hey Mr. Incredible…
Why would Obama vote against Pelosi et.al. when they’ve been right?
As far as “sharing the wealth”, my family will see a tax cut under President Obama and we won’t find our health benefits taxed. Those that can afford it will pay more to help restore the tax imbalance caused by the neocon (and specifically the Bushian) agenda.
Even Joe the faux plumber will see a tax cut under President Obama.

First, Czech socialism and Cuban socialism are two very different beasts. Would you consider France’s system to be the same as Czechoslovakia’s? How about Canada’s? Socialism can be a horrible thing, but there are as many ways to implement socialism as there are ways to implement capitalism. Some work better than others. Just because you have seen an example of failed socialism does not mean there are other examples of where it has worked. We even have socialism here, some of it enacted by the Republicans. What I have seen in my travels is that neither pure capitalism nor pure socialism work. You need some capitalism for it’s ability to adapt and innovate, and you need some socialism to help through tough times and secure the basic needs of the people. Some things are better fueled by greed, while others by need.
Second, do not assume that I am from, or have lived in the US my whole life. My reasoning comes from the education that life had to offer, not libraries. I am a proud US citizen, and a veteran. I have seen the good and bad of this country from the outside and in. I believe that what makes this country great is it’s ability to adapt, within the confines of the Constitution, to an ever changing world. My primary problem with the two political parties that everyone focuses on is that they have forgotten that the Constitution is the supreme law of this country, and that they are more concerned with crises management than they are with long term planning.

actually you are wrong…they are quite equal in the totalitarian ABUSE of their population. if you voice even slight opposition, your future and the future of your children is doomed in such a system. rent a movie called “Lives of Others” sometimes, you will learn how socialist regimes really operate and suppress their population.
this movie deals with Stazi, DDR secret police, but the principles are applicable to any socialist regime.

McCain should win the election by default, as he is a natural-born citizen and Obama is an illegal alien.
It the Constitution, it states, that to be president, you must be a natural born citizen.
The active lawsuit, in Federal Court, case number: 08-cv-04083
Why wont Obama produce his:
1. “vault” version (certified copy of his “original” long version)
Birth Certificate
2. A certified copy of Certification of Citizenship;
3. A Certified copy of Oath of Allegiance.
Why won’t Obama produce these documents, as ordered by the federal judge?
Does he have something to hide?

You know….
Jesse Jackson’s RIGHT about Barack Obama (maybe blacks don’t listen to Jesse but I’m an old rainbow boomer, I still do)
It’s MORE than obvious to me that Obama can’t unify ANYBODY. not from the way Barack and his insufferable internet supporters talk DOWN to
THE REST OF US
He doesn’t give a DAMN about anyone who won’t fall at his feet in adoration.
Obama did not think he needed the Clinton Democrats
(But the only reason he’s ahead of McCain is because the Clintons are DRAGGING him across the finish line with THEIR OWN resigned but increasingly resentful base!)
Now Barack doesn’t need the Palin Life Moms or the McCain Vets and independent patriots and let’s face it
The ENTIRE (repentent to start with)Republican Party is being disrespected daily by Obama, including moderate republicans who voted for Hillary Clinton in droves
I LIVE in Rural Wisconsin
Clinton Republicans were MOST of the people I know.
Traditionally, Farmers NEVER vote democrat but they’ll vote for…The Clintons…cause life was REALLY good on the farm…with Bill
With Bush my whole community has crashed
Rural people who rely on each other, don’t advertise our politics as a rule.
But Obama has SO abused and ignored the loyal Clinton voters in small town America that McCain signs are going up like crazy on the lawns of Wisconsin National Guard Farm Families who will NE$VER vote for Barack or his…wife.
We were SO insulted when Michelle came to OUR STATE where OUR patriotic folks are fighting IN Iraq and OUR little church cemetaries are disturbed with the military dead.
How DARE That Woman say she’s not PROUD of this country! How DARE she say that to the grieving families of Our Dead!
Barack may THINK he’s riding the tide of Change but my family has had this farm for FOUR generations and moveon.org is a DIRTY word where I come from.
Barack Obama is the MOST hated candidate I’ve seen since…Nixon.
Not cause we’re racist but cause creeps come in ALL colors and we know one when we see him.
Aside from a few little college towns (who knows if those kids are registered here) NO ONE in Western Wisconsin farm country is voting for Barack Obama!
NO ONE.
How many dopey college kids and white guilt liberals and women in denial about
about his tolerance for BLATANT misogyny
does Barack THINK it will take to
REPLACE the MILLIONS of disgusted and dispairing VOTING Americans that
Obama THINKS he can do without?
I am a LIFELONG LIBERAL DEMOCRAT and
I do NOT approve his message.

Democrats and Republicans both need to fully research the issues before they get out and vote. Both candidates have good information on their web sites on all of the issues. I hope McCain doesn’t pull back in any of the states, his economic plan is sound and his foreign policy experience is of great value with issues of national security that even Joe Biden is warning about.

Obama is leading by 6 to 8 points over McCain in many polls? That’s terrible! I mean, that’s really terrible!
Obama should be leading by 24 points.
And I don’t understand why McCain has been campaigning in PA, a state where he is down by double digits in many polls here. I’m from PA, and it makes no sense for McCain to campaign in this state. But if he does continue to campaign here, and on Election Day ABC News declares Obama the winner of Florida, well, no recount is going to save McCain.
Obama has pulled out of a few toss-up states, but a few of those states he pulled out of don’t have many electoral votes to begin with (e.g., ND = 3, UT = 5, I think). Meanwhile, McCain pulled out of, or is close to pulling out of:
- MI = 17 (big mistake for McCain)
- WI = 10 (RNC scaled back on ad buys)
- CO = 9
- NM = 5
- IA = 7
- MN = 10
Finally, and to modify a quote Reagan made in 1980 (which the 2008 election mirrors in some aspects):
“A recession is when your neighbor loses his job, a depression is when you lose yours…and on January 20, 2009, a recovery is when Barack Obama gets his as the 44th President of the United States of America.”
(* note that in the original quote, Reagan defined a recovery as “when Jimmy Carter loses his.” *)

Michael,
I have been to Cuba, and I would not call it a completely open society, but there are many people who speak out about the problems they see with some of Castro’s policies, and no they don’t get hauled off to jail, or lose their jobs. Again, go there, it is different. much has changed since the fall of Soviet Russia.
France and Canada are socialist countries in many ways. They have socialized health care, socialized retirement, socialized higher education. They do have “free markets”, but they are more regulated than what we have here in the US. I think you are confusing what I am calling socialism with Soviet style socialism. I am trying to show that what many people call socialism, as the evil entity that was brought about during the Soviet era, and modern socialism are two very different things.
I do not believe Sen. Obama would be able to implement Soviet style socialism in this country, as the backlash would be tremendous. Nor do I believe that the policies he has put forth as his agenda could logically be construed as Soviet style socialism. What I am saying is some of the people who have commented on this page need to re-educate themselves as to what socialism is, as to simply state that any socialization is automatically bad is a false statement. There are many examples where a blend of socialism and capitalism has worked much better than an extreme of one or the other.

They did not send 4,000 of our children to die needlessly in Iraq. They did not squander America’s goodwill after 9/11. They did not subvert our liberties or imprison and torture innocents in Guantanamo. So tell us again how McCain siding with the America-destroying Bush is the *lesser* of two evils??

ANCHORAGE DAILY NEWS……
Palin is wrong woman at wrong time…
It is surely ironic that Garrison Keillor, creator of Lake Woebegone, “the little town that time forgot and the decades cannot improve,” where “the women are strong, the men are good-looking, and all the children are above average,” has registered his disgust with Sarah Palin, America’s new small-town heroine….
In a recent column, Keillor wrote that “dishonest, cynical men” put forward a “clueless young woman” for vice-president, “hoping she could skate through two months of chaperoned campaigning.” It is not working, Keillor averred. “The lady is talking freely about matters she has never thought about,” and the American people “have an ear for B.S.”…
Palin has trumpeted her small-town roots and notion of America since her triumphal speech at the convention, appealing to listeners with exhortations of how “we do it up there in Alaska,” and in “my little town of Wasilla.”…
But Alaska outdoorsman and writer Nick Jans commented recently that he cringes every time he hears that evocation. Palin, Jans wrote, is not a typical Alaskan. She is genuine, but only of a kind, “the kind that flowed north in the wake of the ’70s oil boom” and transformed the state from a “free-thinking, independent bastion of genuine libertarianism and individuality into a reactionary fundamentalist enclave with dollar signs in its eyes and an all-for-me mentality.” He particularly resents that Palin “has hijacked our state for political purposes.”…

MCCAIN WANTS NO INTERVENTION, JUST LIKE HOOVER.

Why isn’t anyone clarifying the issue of potentially higher taxes for small businesses under Senator Obama’s plan? Don’t people understand that revenue is NOT taxed UNTIL it is offset with all the expenses required to generate that revenue? In my book – if a small business has PROFITS (Revenue minus Expenses) of more than $200,000 (for an individual), they can afford to forgo the tax breaks that George Bush gave them so that the rest of us can pay a little less in taxes.

We are seeing the McCain campaign floundering. As for me, this is a time when we need functional, dependable leadership. Our institutions will ensure a moderate agenda with Obama, no matter how “liberal” he might be. I guess people are afraid because George W. Bush portrayed himself as a “compassionate conservative” but governed recklessly from the right that Obama also has a hidden agenda. Bush has been a real wrecker in that many Americans are now so cynical they cannot trust any leader anymore. The wonder was that the Republicans actually arrived at the nomination for McCain when his presidential campaign had already imploded once. The primaries may offer one a second chance, but a real governmental crisis will not. Even were I a hard-core Republican, I could not support McCain after such uneven performance. Competency and a steady head and hand are what America needs now. What good is one’s governing philosophy if one is catastrophically “maverick” veering off in one’s self-appointed directions? We’re not looking for entertainment from our President but consistent, firm leadership. I would be emotionally exhausted by a McCain/ Palin presidency. President Bush looks almost reassuringly dull compared to them. The really disastrous presidents are the incompetents, irrespective of party.
It is no wonder Obama is well-financed. I think the American electorate might want some insurance against another Republican 700 billion dollar economic fiasco. I once had a good opinion of McCain, but now I’m wondering if he’s some kind of Manchurian candidate. Who’s pulling his strings? If they can deliver the Presidency to him, why wouldn’t they control him after he’s President? It doesn’t even seem to be about McCain anymore.

RNC shells out $150K for Palin fashions, AP INVESTIGATION: Palin children traveled on state money, Palin a bigger drag than Bush, Palin fails a third grader’s question on the role of the VP (Palin claims the VP is in charge of the Senate), and it just keeps coming – Sarah Palin – a great gift to the Democratic Party!

DemFromCT looks at the polls, including a CBS survey in which the very same people were polled before the debates and after the debates. The net result? A shift from an Obama lead of 5 points to 13.
But the really incredible thing:
Mr. Obama’s favorability is the highest for a presidential candidate running for a first term in the last 28 years of Times/CBS polls. Mrs. Palin’s negative rating is the highest for a vice-presidential candidate as measured by The Times and CBS News. Even Dan Quayle, with whom Mrs. Palin is often compared because of her age and inexperience on the national scene, was not viewed as negatively in the 1988 campaign.

Daniel,
OMG! A voice of reason crying in the wilderness!
Since you ARE an INFORMED individual, I quite agree there IS a vast difference between a country that chooses to SOCIALIZE (here we’re comfier with federalize) specific aspects of it’s economy or services to provide efficient care for it’s citizens like France and Canada’s universal health care systems
(and we WILL get there because, as a civilized society we HAVE to!)
There are ALSO extremely politically liberal minded countries like Sweden that consider themselves enlightened socialists and they’re mostly about sharing the wealth and resources though NOT inclined to limit speech or personal freedoms and that seems to work for them pretty well so all power to Sweden, I’d say.
AND there are countries like Cuba, which, as you point out, has mellowed but that is NOT to say, as Cubans expats in Florida will tell you, that it STARTED that way!
“Socialism” is a debate that gets muddled in America because boomers grew up diving under our desks in AIR RAID drills in elementary school while Dad built the family bomb shelter in the back yard. We REMEMBER Nuclear testing and The McCarthy hearings during the COLD war.
And just because zealots like McCarthy went NUTS and did a LOT of harm to innocent Americans, that doesn’t mean there were NO subversive communists in America (though many WERE basically nice idealistic American folks who liked folk music and stimulating literature and believed the world could be a better place if we all worked together to cure our national ills. We are not talking about THOSE people.
The PROBLEM is Hitler’s fascism and MARXIST socialism and Leninist/Stalinist communism and Maoism as it manifested in Chinese and Soviet societies and mutated into third world regimes including Cuba…way back when.
Now we’re talking about something…very different and VERY hostile to and dangerous for OUR way of life. As radical Islam is NOW. Like McCain RIGHTLY says and, having spent five years in vietcong POW camp, he should KNOW!
Some people do not like us very much. (Some Americans agree with them)
I happen to believe that the ideal of our constitutional government, matter how poorly we practice it, is one of the GREAT civilizing accomplishments of mankind.
I;m certainly NOT gong to vote for anyone who can’t agree on that.
And THAT is where Bararck Obama’s soaring rhetoric becomes…problematic
Barry WAS a later version of what’s SDS founder Todd Gilin describes in “The Sixties” as a red diaper baby, (He IS the child of a socialist leaning mother and a radical Communist father) who BOTH essentially deserted Barry and left him with all the insecurity THAT implies, searching for an identity as a biracial kid who, while treated kindly, did not ever quite fit in.
I don’t hold that against Obama, it makes him quite fascinating in fact.
But I ‘m not SO naive as to think his search for self in the places he went looking could not become highly…problematic…in a US President.
For his political focus is NOT on the “progressive” societies you mention.
Nor has Baracks lifelong flirtation been with American Liberals like King and Kennedy with their mainstream efforts to achieve civil rights. So the FACT that he invokes their ghosts solely to tug our heartstrings to win a presidential election
IS to me, worrisome and at it’s core dishonest to the extreme
The paths of Sixties socialists and black nationalists weave inextricably together.
And, by his OWN admission, Obama spent MOST of his formative years flirting with political subversives of ALL stripes–the more radical the better
Wm Ayers’ Weathermen being the WORST of the WORST of sixties subversives
They BOMBED buildings, killed people, idealized…Charlie Manson…and held up three fingers to symbolize the FORK his “family” stuck in the butchered pregnant belly of…Sharon Tate. How DO you “rehabilitate”…that?
And WHAT American president has EVER consorted with…that?
Similarly Barack’s endorsement by the New Black Panthers and longtime membership in an Afrocentric Liberationist church where members hold fast the grudges of Farrakahn and Wright warns ME that
In all likelihood Barack Obama is more HOSTILE to mainsteam democratic party ideals than he’d have us sincere voters (suckers) believe
I’d vote for a Black President. I won’t vote for a Black…Supremacist. Sorry.
Most troubling of ALL is the Saul Alinsky “communinity organizer” ruse because THAT is direct CODE for Marxist manipulation of the angry masses and we recently SAW how WELL that “agitation” thing worked for his cousin Ondinga in…Kenya.
700 Kenyans hacked to death with machetes, 100,000s fled when Odinga
lost his presidential bid. Murderous gangs chanting for “Hope and Change”
Do Americans think that CAN’T happen here? This is NOT a game.
Anti-war Leftists disrupted BOTH American presidential conventions in 2008,
riots and blood in the streets of MY home town…been there, done that…in 68
I got teargassed for George McGovern which simply means that, unlike these blindly idealistic youth being lured into Camp Obamas all over the country
I wasn’t born…yesterday.
NOBODY ever wins an American Election like Hitler’s Triumphant Rise in ’38.
We’re NOT THAT UNIFIED…in America…(God HELP us if we ever get that way!)
The day I see a mass of utterly unquestioning converts euphorically flocking
to ANY personality cult with the “Free Press” mildly heaping praise on a tyrant
is the day I get officially frantic.
Two weeks before this election, Daniel, I’m offically…frantic.

Daniel said: “I do not believe Sen. Obama would be able to implement Soviet style socialism in this country, as the backlash would be tremendous.” …consider Daniel, that the Democrats expect to gain super-majorities in both houses of congress, and Obama would likely be able to name 2 new liberal Supreme Court judges…he would essential become a Dictator, as there would be no way to oppose his Socialist policies.

Yikes!
Sincere apologies for ALL those typos!
(It’s Todd Gitlin)
How did I miss them! I guess I was too busy thinking about what I was…saying
My defense is that the world is FULL of editors and they work for cheep.
And my excuse is that my eyes are going and I can’t read the screen so well.
That doesn’t mean my MIND is going too!
Or than my experience has failed me, if my memory sometimes does, for life lessons do not fail you as Youth eventually learns when they…get some.
I think by far the saddest thing about THIS election is that Generation Next is SO ruthlessly determined to STEAL from the Cool Old Boomers
What The Boomers were SO willing, even eager to pass on to them.
Youth does not HAVE to reinvent EVERY wheel. But just TRY to tell them that!
The FIRST executive decision any president makes is WHEN to run.
So in his FIRST decision Barack Obama failed himself and he failed his country which truly needs…The Capable Clintons…just now.
But, because he’s so vain, so haughty, so rushed to BE GREAT Barack Obama and his ill equipped wife are destined to RE make EVERY mistake Bill and Hillary Clinton made LAST time, when THEY were too young.
The thing is…unlike Barack…
Hillary WOULD no doubt, have heeded the will of the people and chosen him as her vice president.
She and Bill woulda thrown themselves into the nuts and bolts of FIXING the country, cause THAT is what they LIKE to do and LET Barack be the superstar specifier while he learned the ropes from the best we’ve got.
We would have the BEST of all worlds.
In eight years, maybe even four, Obama WOULD have inherited a mended nation to become a truly great and well loved American president.
For he would be wiser then.
As it is he will make all the costly mistakes of youth which We the People and The Planet cannot afford so, if we survive, he will be deeply resented for depriving us of what we COULD have had.
Which is WHY The Clintons would have led us SO much further down the path we are all on…together.
But, what can we do?
Kids never know that stuff…

Nonsense, you should be very worried about being taxed to death under Obama. He has always run on not taxing the working class….but guess what? He then always votes to raise everyone’s taxes once he got in. Obama lies, and it well past time people (obamabots) grow up and start dealing with the facts.

In case you might be interested to know.. the rest of the free-world doesn’t care about your taxes since you make more money than the rest of us put together paying 15-20% less income tax. You pay less than half the price we pay for your gas at the pumps and get charged a third of the price we pay on groceries.. shall I go on?! Do the Americans who fear a tax increase so much that they would not vote for Obama really believe that McCain’s wait-and-see strategy on your Occupation of Iraq will not lead to a significant tax hike in the future anyway. How in the hell do you expect to continue to fund a 10billion dollar a month black hole ? How ?!! McCain certainly seems to have few answers on your economic state and your Treasury and Fed has been lined with Wall Street’s best in the greatest show of incest and nepotism since the Royal Family. I despair !
What is the rest of the free world is interested in I hear you ask ?! Stability. But, let’s talk money for a second – Palin and simply, if America’s economy goes down the crapper, we all go too. In fluffier terms, the rest of the free-world wants to see America return to a nation that leads and inspires and after the last 8 year run, it has inspired little in us apart from nausea. Obama has to be the most inspirational American politician since JFK. You have the chance to climb out of the hole you’ve allowed Dubya & Co to dig you into. So I ask, not for the sake of the rest of the free-world but for yourselves, please vote for Obama.

Election Analysis by Pollster Steve Lombardo
Pollster Steve Lombardo also has a nice analysis of where the presidential election stands now. His major points: (1) Obama won the debates big time, (2) Obama is playing offense all over the map while McCain is playing defense, (3) Obama’s massive fundraising is a huge advantage, and (4) more people identify as Democrats than as Republicans by an 8% margin. None of these factors look good for McCain.

Had people read all my postings they would have seen that I am not an Obama supporter, I was merely trying to debunk some of the things other posters were saying, particularly about socialism, as they obviously did not understand what socialism is. I could probably best be summed up as a Libertarian, but they get all kooky sometimes, so I don’t back them either. The Constitutionalists p*** me off for all their “we believe in the Constitution, as written by G-D” crap. Any group calling themselves that should not be allowed to throw such a far off pitch. I guess I could be best described as a fiscal conservative/social idealist (in that I don’t think the government should be in our bedrooms), but there is no party that represents such people anymore.
To 42n82bfearless,
I leave you with an eloquent quote, and I believe correct prophecy, from one of the greatest thinkers ever, and a great patriarch of this country.
In these sentiments, Sir, I agree to this Constitution, with all its faults, — if they are such; because I think a general Government necessary for us, and there is no form of government but what may be a blessing to the people, if well administered; and I believe, farther, that this is likely to be well administered for a course of years, and can only end in despotism, as other forms have done before it, when the people shall become so corrupted as to need despotic government, being incapable of any other.
Benjamin Franklin
* Speech to the Constitutional Convention (1787-06-28)
Have we reached that point? some would say decades ago, others would say it’s eminent. Only our future generations will decide.

WASHINGTON — Al Qaeda supporters suggested in a Web site message this week they would welcome a pre-election terror attack on the U.S. as a way to usher in a McCain presidency.
The message, posted Monday on the password-protected al-Hesbah Web site, said if Al Qaeda wants to exhaust the United States militarily and economically, “impetuous” Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain is the better choice because he is more likely to continue the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
“This requires presence of an impetuous American leader such as McCain, who pledged to continue the war till the last American soldier,” the message said. “Then, Al Qaeda will have to support McCain in the coming elections so that he continues the failing march of his predecessor, Bush.”
SITE Intelligence Group, based in Bethesda, Maryland, monitors the Web site and translated the message.
“If Al Qaeda carries out a big operation against American interests,” the message said, “this act will be support of McCain because it will push the Americans deliberately to vote for McCain so that he takes revenge for them against Al Qaeda. Al Qaeda then will succeed in exhausting America till its last year in it.”
Mark Salter, a senior McCain adviser, said he had heard about the Web site chatter but had no immediate comment.
The message is credited to a frequent and apparently respected contributor named Muhammad Haafid. However, Haafid is not believed to have a direct affiliation with Al Qaeda plans or knowledge of its operations, according to SITE.
SITE senior analyst Adam Raisman said this message caught SITE’s attention because there has been little other chatter on the forums about the U.S. election.
SITE was struck by the message’s detailed analysis — and apparent jubilation — about American financial woes.
“What we try to do is get the pulse of the jihadist community,” Raisman said. “And it’s about the financial crisis.”

Hillary is in the position to be the most powerful woman in the senate. She will be either the speaker of the house or SEC. of state. I think it would be correct to say the two most important issues in this election are the economy and national security.
On the economy a vote for BO is a vote to abandon the core principals of capitalism and move towards a more socialist model (spread the wealth around and nationalize healthcare).
On national security a vote for BO is, as per his running mate, an invitation to our adversaries to test his mettle due to his youth and sad lack of experience. His underming of the war and rhetoric on Russia / Georgia and the Iraq troop surge give some insight into his “mettle” and resolve.
I don’t trust his rhetoric on the economy and I don’t trust his rhetoric on national security. Further, in each case it is only rhetoric with no record to back it up. A vote for BO is a roll of the dice.

I am a millionare that is voting for Obama. $700,000 more in taxes to help the middle class is not an issue. My company just created 100 jobs and predict will create more come January. Obama’s tax policies are better than McCains when you really look at it. I beleive the wealthy should pay more in taxes. It doesnt affect our bottom line. Enough with the Bush era. That is what we will get if McCain is elected. We need fundamental change and Obama is the person who can make that happen.

Palin comments when asked what the VP does: “A vice president has a really great job because not only are they there to support the president’s agenda, they’re there like the team member, the teammate to the president,” Palin continued. “But also, they’re in charge of the United States Senate, so if they want to they can really get in there with the senators and make a lot of good policy changes that will make life better for Brandon and his family and his classroom. And it’s a great job and I look forward to having that job.”
While the Vice President does serve as president of the Senate, according to the U.S. Constitution, the vice president’s role is fairly limited to casting tie-breaking votes.
I can not believe McCain would put our country in the hands of this woman.

Mr Incredible,
You actually think i havent tried to get a raise. I’ve tried to get other jobs that pay more but they arent out there because Bush and the Repubs jacked this country up and you want to hand the reins over to another Repub. You are on crack. I’m not asking for free money but a tax cut would help ease my pain. I dont want any hand outs but help is always appreciated. A tax cut is not gettting free money. It is keeping money in my pocket that I busted my A$$ working for.
It shows that you are wealthy and dont care about working folks by making the comments you do. I work for the DOD (Department of Defense) in case your slow brain couldnt comprehend and it still isnt enought in these turbulant times. When i was working under Clinton life was good. Ever since the Repubs took over it has been hell. I am busting my A$$ for my country so dont try to generalize me that i dont work or are one of those people who say they bust their A$$ but dont. I served in the military (got hurt in Iraq) and now work for DOD. I shouldnt be struggling the way i am after the sacrifices i have made. All soldiers are middle class or lower so you are not for soldiers if you do not support a middle class and lower class tax cut. You “MY FRIEND” are unpatriotic.

To Barack Hussein Obama,
The New York Times carried a story on Saturday, October 4, 2008, that proved you had a significantly closer relationship with Bill Ayers than what you previously admitted. While the issue of your relationship is of concern, the greater concern is that you lied to America about it.
The Chicago Sun reported on May 8, 2008, that FBI records showed that you had a significantly closer relationship with Tony Rezko than what you previously admitted. In the interview, you said that you only saw Mr. Rezko a couple of times a year. The FBI files showed that you saw him weekly. While the issue of your relationship is of concern, the greater concern is that you lied to America about it.
Your speech in Philadelphia on March 18, 2008, about “race” contradicted your statement to Anderson Cooper on March 14 when you said that you never heard Reverend Wright make his negative statements about white America . While your attendance at Trinity Church for 20 years is of concern, the greater concern is that you lied to America on March 14.
In your 1st debate with John McCain, you said that you never said that you would meet with the leaders of Cuba, Venezuela, Iran, and North Korea without “preparations” at lower levels … Joe Biden repeated your words in his debate with Sarah Palin … while the video tape from your debate last February clearly shows that you answered “I would” to the question of meeting with those leaders within 12 months without “any” preconditions. While your judgement about meeting with enemies of the USA without pre-conditions is of concern, the greater concern is that you lied to America in the debate with McCain.
On July 14, 2008, you said that you always knew that the surge would work while the video tapes of you from more than a year ago show that you stated that the surge would not work. While your judgment about military strategy as a potential commander-in-chief is of concern, the greater concern is that you lied to America on July 14.
You now claim that your reason for voting against funding for the troops was because the bill did not include a time line for withdrawal, while the video tapes of you from more than a year ago show that you voted against additional funding because you wanted our troops to be removed immediately … not in 16 months after the 2008 election as you now claim. While your judgment about removing our troops unilaterally in 2007 is of concern, the greater concern is that you lied to America about your previous position.
You claim to have a record of working with Republicans while the record shows that the only bill that you sponsored with a Republican was with Chuck Lugar … and it failed. The record shows that you vote 97% in concert with the Democrat party and that you have the most liberal voting record in the Senate. You joined Republicans only 13% of the time in your votes and those 13% were only after agreement from the Democrat party. While it is of concern that you fail to include conservatives in your actions and that you are such a liberal, the greater concern is that you distorted the truth.
In the primary debates of last February, 2008, you claimed to have talked with a “Captain” of a platoon in Afghanistan “the other day” when in fact you had a discussion in 2003 with a Lieutenant who had just been deployed to Afghanistan . You lied in that debate.
In your debates last spring, you claimed to have been a “professor of Constitutional law” when in fact you have never been a professor of Constitutional law. In this last debate, you were careful to say that you “taught a law class” and never mentioned being a “professor of Constitutional law.” You lied last spring.
You and Joe Biden both claimed that John McCain voted against additional funding for our troops when the actual records show the opposite. You distorted the truth.
You and Joe Biden claim that John McCain voted against funding for alternate energy sources 20 times when the record shows that John McCain specifically voted against funding for bio fuels, especially corn … and he was right …. corn is too expensive at producing ethanol, and using corn to make ethanol increased the price of corn from $2 a bushel to $6 a bushel for food. You distorted the truth.
You and Joe Biden claim that John McCain voted like both of you for a tax increase on those making as little as $42,000 per year while the voting record clearly shows that John McCain did not vote as you and Joe Biden. You lied to America .
You and Joe Biden claim that John McCain voted with George W. Bush 90% of the time when you know that Democrats also vote 90% of the time with the President (including Joe Biden) because the vast majority of the votes are procedural. You are one of the few who has not voted 90% of the time with the president because you have been missing from the Senate since the day you got elected. While your absence from your job in the Senate is of concern, the greater concern is that you spin the facts.
You did not take an active role in the rescue plan. You claimed that the Senate did not need you while the real reason that you abstained was because of your close relationships with the executives of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Countrywide, and Acorn … who all helped cause the financial problems of today … and they all made major contributions to your campaign. While your relationship with these executives and your protection of them for your brief 3 years in the Senate (along with Barney Frank, Chuck Schumer, Maxine Waters, and Chris Dodd) is of concern, the greater concern is that you are being deceitful.
You forgot to mention that you personally represented Tony Rezko and Acorn. Tony Rezko, an Arab and close friend to you, was convicted of fraud in Chicago real estate transactions that bilked millions of tax dollars from the Illinois government for renovation projects that you sponsored as a state senator … and Acorn has been convicted of voter fraud, real estate sub prime loan intimidation, and illegal campaign contributions. Tony Rezko has contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to your political campaigns. You personally used your political positions to steer money to both Tony Rezko and Acorn and you used Acorn to register thousands of phony voters for Democrats and you. While your relationships with Rezko and Acorn are of concern, the greater concern is that you omitted important facts about your relationships with them to America .
During your campaign, you said: “typical white person.” “They cling to their guns and religion.” “They will say that I am black.” You played the race card. You tried to label any criticism about you as racist. You divide America .
You claim that you will reduce taxes for 95% of America , but you forgot to tell America that those reductions are after you remove the Bush tax reductions. You have requested close to $1 billion in earmarks and several million for Acorn. Your social programs will cost America $1 trillion per year and you claim that a reduction in military spending ($100 billion for Iraq ) can pay for it. While your economic plan of adding 30% to the size of our federal government is of concern, the greater concern is that you are deceiving America .
The drain to America ‘s economy by foreign supplied oil is $700 billion per year (5% of GDP) while the war in Iraq is $100 billion (less than 1% of GDP). You voted against any increases to oil exploration for the last 3 years and any expansion of nuclear facilities. Yet today, you say that you have always been for more oil and more nuclear. You are lying to America …
Mr. Obama, you claimed that you “changed” your mind about public financing for your campaign because of the money spent by Republican PACs in 2004. The truth is that the Democrat PACs in 2004, 2006, and 2008 spent twice as much as the Republican PACs (especially George Soros and MoveOn.org). You are lying to America .
Oh, Mr. Obama, Teddy Roosevelt said about a hundred years ago that we Americans should first look at the character of our leaders before anything else.
Your character looks horrible. While you make good speeches, motivating speeches, your character does not match your rhetoric. You talk the talk, but do not walk the walk.
1. You lied to America . You lied many times. You distorted facts. You parsed your answers like a lawyer.
2. You distorted the record of John McCain in your words and in your advertisements.
3. You had associations with some very bad people for your personal political gains and then lied about those associations.
4. You divide America about race and about class.
Now let me compare your record of lies, distortions, race baiting, and associations to John McCain: War hero. Annapolis graduate with “Country first.” Operational leadership experience like all 43 previously elected presidents of the USA as a Navy officer for 22 years. 26 years in the Senate. Straight talk. Maverick. 54% of the time participated on bills with Democrats. Never asked for an earmark. The only blemish on his record is his part in the Keating 5 debacle about 25 years ago.
Mr. Obama, at Harvard Law School, you learned that the end does not justify the means. You learned that perjury, false witness, dishonesty, distortion of truth are never tolerated. Yet, your dishonesty is overwhelming. Your dishonesty is tremendously greater than the dishonesty that caused the impeachment and disbarment of Bill Clinton. Your dishonesty is tremendously greater than the dishonesty of Scooter Libby. You should be ashamed.
Mr. Obama, it is time for us Americans to put aside our differences on political issues and vote against you because of your dishonest character. It is time for all of us Americans to put aside our political issues and vote for America first. It is time for America to vote for honesty.
Any people who vote for you after understanding that you are dishonest should be ashamed of themselves for making their personal political issues more important than character. Would these same people vote for the anti-Christ if the anti-Christ promised them riches? Would they make a golden calf while Moses was up the mountain? Would they hire someone for a job if that someone lied in an interview? Of course not. So why do some of these people justify their votes for you even though they know you are dishonest? Why do they excuse your dishonesty? Because some of these people are frightened about the future, the economy, and their financial security …. and you are preying on their fears with empty promises … and because some (especially our young people) are consumed by your wonderful style and promises for “change” like the Germans who voted for Adolf Hitler in 1932. The greed/envy by Germans in 1932 kept them from recognizing Hitler for who he was. They loved his style. Greed and envy are keeping many Americans from recognizing you … your style has camouflaged your dishonesty …. but many of us see you for who you really are … and we will not stop exposing who you are every day, forever if it is necessary.
Mr. Obama, you are dishonest. Anyone who votes for you is enabling dishonesty.
Mr. Obama , America cannot trust that you will put America first in your decisions about the future.
Mr. Obama, you are not the “change” that America deserves. We cannot trust you.
Mr. Obama, You are not ready and not fit to be commander-in-chief.
Mr. Obama, John McCain does not have as much money as your campaign to refute all of your false statements. And for whatever reasons, the mainstream media will not give adequate coverage or research about your lies, distortions, word parsing, bad associations, race baiting, lack of operational leadership experience, and generally dishonest character. The media is diverting our attention from your relationships and ignoring the fact that you lied about those relationships. The fact that you lied is much more important than the relationships themselves …. just like with Bill Clinton and Richard Nixon … Monica Lewinski and Watergate were not nearly as bad as the fact that those men lied about the events ….. false witness … perjury … your relationships and bad judgments are bad on their own …. but your lies are even worse.
Therefore, by copy of this memo, all who read this memo are asked to send it to everyone else in America before it is too late. We need to do the job that the media will not do. We need to expose your dishonesty so that every person in America understands who you really are before election day.
Mr. Obama, in a democracy, we get what we deserve. And God help America if we deserve you.

A vote for Obama is an invitation for our enemies to crank up their war machines and get ready to rumble. It is also a vote for America becoming a Socialist republic. Obama and his leftist illuminati views are going to make America unrecognizable.

I am not surprised McCain is having tough time in New Hampshire, so many tax loving liberals from Massachusetts have moved over the state line and into New Hampshire. I guess they like the no state income tax. Plus this way they can change the state into their way of thinking and keep democrats in control. Unfortunately New Hampshire is being overcome. I am surprised New Hampshire natives are letting it happen.

As an Obama supporter, I’m very happy about the change in voter opinion. As an American citizen, I’m saddened that it took an economic debacle and some very poor judgment on the part of some elements in the McCain campaign to get here. I do think McCain is a decent human being and would have been a far better president than W., but then I probably couldn’t have done to much worse either. Choosing Palin as his running mate, however is McCain’s own fault. Onward and upward to the White House, let’s hope nothing derails this train!

London Daily Telegraph
John McCain ‘endorsed by al-Qaeda supporters’
Supporters of al-Qaeda have said they would prefer Republican candidate John McCain to win the US election because he is more likely to continue the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
5:43PM BST 22 Oct 2008
In a message broadcast on the password-protected al-Hesbah site, the group said they would also welcome a pre-election terror attack on the US because that would make a McCain win more likely.
In an endorsement that will not be welcomed by Mr McCain’s flagging campaign, the group said that if al-Qaeda wants to exhaust the USmilitarily and economically, the “impetuous” Republican presidential candidate is the better choice.
“This requires presence of an impetuous American leader such as McCain, who pledged to continue the war till the last American soldier,” the message said.
“Then, al-Qaeda will have to support McCain in the coming elections so that he continues the failing march of his predecessor, Bush.”
“If al-Qaeda carries out a big operation against American interests,” it said, “this act will be support of McCain because it will push the Americans deliberately to vote for McCain so that he takes revenge for them against al-Qaeda. Al-Qaeda then will succeed in exhausting America till its last year in it.”
Mark Salter, a senior McCain adviser, had no immediate comment.

Cattyway I hope you’re right about Pennsylavania going for McCain. I don’t know why they wouldn’t vote for McCain especially when we hear what Obama and their elected officials really think of them. I think the comments made about its citzens is disgraceful and I hope they show their disapproval of these comments in the voting booth.

Mr Incredible I think sharing the wealth is a good idea if you make over 250,000 dollars you should help out your fellow Americans with paying a little extra taxes and if you listened to Mr. Obama he also said there would be a 3000.00 dollar tax break to any company hiring new employees so it would behove small businesses to look at the whole picture. If you are taking home 250,000 dollars clear than you should be spreading the wealth to someone who only brings home lets say 60,000 you are a selfish person Mr. Incredible or are you rich that would explain your ignorance.

Michael, You stated that Canada is a socialist country I beg to differ I am an American that lives in Canada and the US is always saying we don’t want to have a Health care like Canada let me tell you something I can go to any doctor I want and when I need to take my kids to the hosipital I show them my Alberta Health Care number and I see a doctor I’m not saying that we don’t have problems we do have to be referred to a specialist by our family doctor and sometime we have a long wait but if you have cancer or something that requires a person to be looked at quickly we are on the top of the list. The US should look at a program like Canada because no matter if you are rich or poor or a person on the street you are able to see a doctor. So don’t say Canada is a socialist country when were not. And by the way I have sent in my absentee ballot for Obama/Biden I just hope the people in America see the lies McCain is telling you. The world would rather see Obama/Biden as leaders on the US than McCain who is a war mongler like Bush you want to see world war 3 elect McCain. And people in Florida I can’t believe you are doing it again voting for an idiot just because he is old seniors think he is the right choice I’m surprised that you wouldn’t want a young president who can help you and your kids and grandkids open your eyes Florida and see Obama is the right choice. There are only 11 days to go we need all voters to get out and vote. RJ

Obama is playing by the rules – and if you want to complain – complain about current campaign finance rules. I don’t remember hearing a peep out of McCain – after his honorable attempt to reform campaign finance were gutted. He has deep understanding of how funding for his campaign works – and knowingly chose his present course. He was just out managed and outsmarted by Obama.

Palin is good buddies with a convicted felon.
She is in charge of the most socialist regime in the Western Hemisphere. Alaska’s residents receive more free handouts from the government than Cubans do from their government.
She wants to take Republican party funds and distribute them to charity. What a socialist thing to do.
