That Other Rogue VP Nominee

According to the latest ABC News/Washington Post tracking poll, Sen. John McCain has pulled about even in voters’ trust to handle an unexpected crisis, after trailing Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., by 9 points on this attribute on Oct. 11.

Wonder what could have happened in the last 17 days to make that 9-point Obama lead in unexpected crisis management disappear?

Oh, right …his running mate said the world would test the mettle of a young President Obama with an international crisis and it wouldn’t be apparent initially that the Obama response was the correct one.

John McCain has pulled “about even” Jake? Is that like a little bit pregnant? :)

You left out that Biden said, “And they are going to find out this guy has got steel in his spine.”

Biden is a good man, an honest man. He’s very intelligent. He will make an outstanding vice president.

I fully believe that Barack Obama will carry through with his plans to raise taxes on the wealthy. Since I’m not wealthy, it won’t affect me. His supposed “tax cut” for people making less than $250,000 (or $200,000 or $150,000 – depending on what speech he or the gaffe machine is making) will affect me. It would be great – except I’m not stupid enough to believe that Obama will give a tax cut to ANYONE. He has no intention of cutting taxes for anyone. He’s pandering to get votes because he knows the country is full of people stupid enough to believe him.

If McCain is elected it seems as though Palin will want to take over everything. She is a maverick after all. She’s already started to distance herself from him and throw his staffers under the bus. She’s gone rogue.

Appearing on Face the Nation back in June of 2008, Lieberman predicted that “our enemies will test the new president early.”
“Remember that the truck bombing of the World Trade Center happened in the first year of the Clinton administration. 9/11 happened in the first year of the Bush administration.”
Will you report this, as well?

One, I would hate to see them “TEST” McBomb. We will be in trouble. It will take him a good week to stop chasing his tail.
The only evidence of Obama’s “socialism” are refundable tax credits which requires you to work.
But John McCain proposes a $5000 refundable tax credit for health care, and this is NOT tied to work.

Obama is going to bring this country together and make life better. What’s wrong with that? I think some on the republican side are just afraid. They claim McCain and the republican party share there values and faith. Really?? Does that include the war in Iraq which has killed how many of our soldiers? Does that include not helping the poor in this country? What about Bush approving torture? Bush has allowed special interests groups to take over this country and put us into a war that we shouldn’t even be in and for what? All he cares about is money and power. He doesn’t care about the people or seem to stand for any values. Bush only looks out for number one. McCain says country first, it’s campaign first for him. If country came first then why has he voted so many times against veterans benefits? Why did he vote against healthcare for children?

Correction: the media reported round the clock what his running mate said:
Biden also said he had a spine of steel, but that didn’t make it into too many reports.

All presidents are tested at some point during their presidency. Name one that hasn’t been tested. Some more than others, but there has always been some crises. Some the public knew about and some we didn’t. I knew what Joe meant. It’s the Fox news bunch that has made this some sort of revelation by Joe.And turned into some kind of smear. It’s nothing but fact. All presidents are tested. It’s a no brainer really.

Posted by: Bea | October 28, 2008, 4:24 pm 4:24 pm

Obama’s disreputable background is ignored by his supporters due to the increasingly current liberal approach that most anything goes, and to h*ll with being accountable. He also had the good luck to win the primary because his baggage re Wright didn’t hit the news until after he won the first nine primaries. After that it was nip and tuck and Clinton almost won anyway. Then add the Bush millstone around McCain’s neck and the current economic downturn and we see that McCain’s doing good to be as close as he is in the race.

momof2…you also forgot the current finacial crisis and brakedown of our economy…including everyday Joe’s 401k. McCain voted for deregulation in 2000 and then didn’t bother to vote on the ammendment which still included the deregulation of Wall Street.

Posted by: Miki | October 28, 2008, 4:29 pm 4:29 pm

JC, I just saw McCain again yelling at his rally stating, “fight, fight fight, fight, fight” while adding any noun he could think of after the word! His entire mentality is WAR! He can’t live without the word FIGHT! I absolutely could not stand 4 years of listening to his BS. I would have to leave this country if McCain and Palin manaage to slide into the WH despite being born and raised here. I just can’t live with that thought or that reality! Please don’t tell me they have narrowed the polls to now be running even with Obama. I can’t believe that people can still be that STUPID and IGNORANT after the last 8 years of Republican ruin!

Ed from MA,
I love your posting. Everyday it is something new with the GOP. First is a lefists, then a socialists, marxists but on Tuesday, November 4, 2008, they will all be eating their words.

The truth hurts: Seriously Fox News…LOLOL. I would triple fact check anything they tell you.

Posted by: becky | October 28, 2008, 4:31 pm 4:31 pm

McCain has also increased his nonstop lies about Obama’s tax plan. Go to FactCheck. McCain started in June or earlier. In June, he was lying in every Town Hall Meeting and has increased the lies.
Palin immediately continued the lies, as does every McCain surrogate. It took the media until the end of September to realize McCain’s lies, but some still do not challenge the lies.
The trickle down theory does not work. The wealthy keep the money. The CEO and some lower were making multiple million per year, some even above a billion.
Who received a bailout? Wall Street and the wealthy that have enough savings last the rest of their life if they lived like the average citizen, except they are too greedy
People are also falling for the Joe the Plumber farce. Joe would get a bigger tax refund under Obama. Joe lied to Obama; he is nowhere close to being able to purchase a business.
Joe also does not know the difference between gross and net income for businesses. Small businesses get many deductions and often deduct things that are actually personal expenses.
99% of true small businesses make less than $250,000 NET income.
The spread the wealth and socialist charges are also not accurate. The US has always had an incremental tax plan where the people with more income paid more taxes.
Bush’s tax cuts where larger for the wealthy. It is time for people on the lower end to receive a break. The small amount could mean the difference in staying in their home or going to a dentist.
A governor was just on TV talking about the government putting a limit on garage sales. People were selling their belongings in an attempt to survive.
Do you think people making more than $200,000 or $250,000 are having garage sales to survive.
Do you think the greedy people that caused the economic crisis are selling their belongs to survive.
AIG used government bailout money for a staff party in another country. They are supposedly paying back the money, but the nerve to spend our money in lavish ways is unbelievable.
Do you think former Senator Phil Gramm, nation of whiners, foreclosure Phil, is having money problems? Both Phil and his wife took lobbyist money from Enron and investment banks for years.
McCain’s surrogates refused to answer a question a few weeks ago about whether McCain would make Phil Gramm his Treasury Secretary.
Gramm belongs in prison. McCain said he is a genius and honorable man.
Please people do some search on Gramm and “credit swap defaults” or Gramm and subprime.
McCain plans to continue the policies of helping the wealthy. He is giving himself a yearly tax cut of $400,000 a year. How many people will ever see that much money in their entire life?

Pentagon Panel: Biden Was Right, Prep for ‘Crisis’
Either candidate will be tested.
The chairman of a key Pentagon advisory panel is sounding a similar warning, telling the next administration to “prepare for a likely first-270-days crisis.”
The Insider, a twice-weekly report on the Defense Department, Congress and the defense industry
For me it is scary to have hot head erratic McCain being tested. He was on TV and radio on September 11, 2008 selling the Iraq war, even worse, he was selling war in Iran and Syria.

McCain said they wouldn’t test him, he would test them. First of all, this is a completely arrogant statement by McCain egging them to practically bring it on.
Second, didn’t President Bush “test” our “enemies” in Iraq? I’m tired of that kind of testing.

RONALD REAGAN WAS A SOCIALIST!
That’s correct. Reagan instituted the earned income tax credit in which low income couples, with kids, who work, actually get a check from the government.
MCCAIN TO ABOLISH SOCIAL SECURITY, MEDICARE AND MEDICAID.
That’s correct. Obviously, these marxist, socialist-spread the wealth-programs will have to go in the new administration.
LET THEM EAT CAKE!
That’s what V.P. Palin said when told poor people had no bread.

I trust that Obama has the intelligence, patience and strength to listen to his advisors and will work diligently to make America a respected and honorable ally once again.
November 5th – will you wake up and feel encouraged about the new president…or, will you shake your head and wonder how we will get through the next four years.
Vote intelligence, grace under pressure, stamina,

BS. McCain was cleared of any wrongdoing and of breaking any senate rule. Deregulation started in 1977 and was fostered in various forms by both parties. Probably clinton advocating packaging of loans to be traded as commodities was the worst decision. Clearly you are too young and wet behind the ears to know these things.

Does 9/11, the Iran-Contra Scandal, Bay of Pig, Vietnam, WWI and WWII, Great Depression, Desert Storm ring a bell. Most presidents have been testes in some shape of fashion during their early stages of the presidency. Especially, when you are not following the footsteps of the incumbent. It is absurd for McCain supporters to think that a erratic, confused, arrogant, foolish 72 yr old man wtih a VP with less compentency to run a country than that plumber is not going to be tested.

Posted by: George | October 28, 2008, 5:15 pm 5:15 pm

In regards to Khalidi, however, the guilt-by-association game burns John McCain as well.
During the 1990s, while he served as chairman of the International Republican Institute (IRI), McCain distributed several grants to the Palestinian research center co-founded by Khalidi, including one worth half a million dollars.
A 1998 tax filing for the McCain-led group shows a $448,873 grant to Khalidi’s Center for Palestine Research and Studies for work in the West Bank. (See grant number 5180, “West Bank: CPRS” on page 14 of this PDF.)
The relationship extends back as far as 1993, when John McCain joined IRI as chairman in January. Foreign Affairs noted in September of that year that IRI had helped fund several extensive studies in Palestine run by Khalidi’s group, including over 30 public opinion polls and a study of “sociopolitical attitudes.”
Of course, there’s seemingly nothing objectionable with McCain’s organization helping a Palestinian group conduct research in the West Bank or Gaza. But it does suggest that McCain could have some of his own explaining to do as he tries to make hay out of Khalidi’s ties to Obama.

Posted by: Bhrandon | October 28, 2008, 5:16 pm 5:16 pm

hotandspicy: Here’s the scoop right from McCain: “A major news organization is intentionally suppressing information that could provide a clearer link between Barack Obama and Rashid Khalidi,” said McCain spokesman Michael Goldfarb, citing Obama’s friendship with Khalidi, who is now a professor at Columbia University.”
Oh NOES! News that Obama may know a professor from a prestigious university!! And he has a – gasp – muslim name! We don’t want a president associating with people like that.
I am starting to get a whiff of what it must have been like to live during McCarthyism, where being a law following citizen of America wasn’t enough to prove you were a REAL American, and this odor is coming directly from the McCain.

John McCain too, publicly stated transitional period between Presidents is time when enemies may cause a crisis. This is ridiculous attack!
