The Brown Bomber

"The kind of comments made by Congressman Lewis, a big Obama supporter, are reprehensible," said Rick Davis, the campaign manager for Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., on Fox News Sunday. "Barack Obama should apologize to John McCain directly for the kinds of comments made by Joe — John Lewis yesterday, and that should be the end of this sordid affair."

McCain is pathetic.
This campaign was pretty civil until McCain and Palin started stoking racist hatred.
McCain is no different from Wallace, , Ahmadinejad, and all other racist leaders. They all stir up hatred, then cry like babies when it’s turned against them.

Why would one black man apologize for the words or another? Are they a hive collective, like honey bees?
Secondly, no apology is required from Lewis, he certainly wasnt the only one to say that. Republican pundit David Gergen said as much, as did the former republican governor of Michigan, and others.

Posted by: bubba | October 12, 2008, 2:23 pm 2:23 pm

I still don’t understand why they think Obama has to apologize for something someone else said. John Lewis may have gone too far, but the man is entitled to his opinion, just as much as the people who make the anti-Obama comments (like Palin).

Unfortunately, John Lewis’s comments provided the perfect excuse for McCain to change the subject from Palin’s ethics violation. Except some of us have attention spans greater than gnats.
Palin VIOLATED an ethical statute. All eight Republican legislators on the 12 member committedd, voted against her. So when says the process was driven by Obama supporters and that she violated no law, she is LYING. The sSenate ethics committed found SEn. McCain used “bad judgment” in the 1980′s Keating scandal. If these two get elected it will be the first time in hisorty that both the Pres and v. Pres. have been officially found guilty of ethical sstandards prior to taking office.

It seems to me that John Lewis should be entitled to an opinion. It also seem to me that John McCain ought to have a better memory for the way things were in the 50s and 60s.

No one from the McCain campaign has said that Obama was or is a terrorist. But what was said is true. Ayers admitted to the terrorists acts and wished he had done more. And Obama choose to work and associate with him for years.

Jake maybe you should report how the PM of Iraq just rebuked one of Palins lies from last week. You know the one where she accussed Obama a US Senator of treason. When McCain’s and Palin’s lips move you can bet your house it is a lie!

Obama should apologize right after Jefferson…I mean Rick Davis explains what it is he did to eran those millions in Fannie and Freddie “public relations” dollars. And after he apoligizes to McCain for not telling him he was under contract to Freedie Mac while working on McCain’s campaign.

Excuse me Mary, but McCain/Palin have REPEATEDLY said that Obama “pals around with terrorists”, that’s calling him a terrorists in my opinion and in the opinion of people at McCain rallies as well.

Sen. John McCain’s wife and father-in-law continued a lucrative business partnership with disgraced financier Charles H. Keating Jr. for 11 years after the GOP presidential nominee said he ended his close friendship with Keating in March 1987.
Cindy McCain’s business partnership with Keating in a real-estate development between 1986 and 1998 netted her a tidy profit, in addition to years of significant tax benefits. Her father, who died in 2000, earned similar returns.

Also Mary, McCain said more than once that Obama was associated with Hamas and that Hamas supports Obama, that’s calling him a terrorist, so don’t give me that crap about how “McCain never called Obama a terrorist”, he most certainly did.

The Presidential Campaign has come to so low that blatant lies by McCain/Palin and the tone of their speechs has made quite a bit of ignorant people believing everything they hear from the Campaign and sources like Fox News.
I see many blog entries where people are getting intimidated by McCain campaign for wearing Obama T-Shirt and likes of people not allowing Obama bumper sticker car not be parked in certain parking lot.
The Political scene looks almost as par with Third World Country where fear, lie and character assault are key to election with ignorant voters adding to it.
Hope McCain/Palin realise they are better than this and run the rest of the campaign on the choice they offer and on their merit.
I do not see any reason Obama to apolozise for what Congressman said which by the way is true.

“I still don’t understand why they think Obama has to apologize for something someone else said.”
Simple this is a perfect way for a shameless campaign to inject race making it and us against them issues!
It always good if we are not talking about the economy for the mccain camp.
Its even better on a weekend that should have coverage of Palins guilt on ethics violations should be the issue America is discussing.
On Trooper gats jave you read:
Troopergate: Not Over Yet
Some weeks ago, the McCain team devised a plan to have Palin file an ethics complaint against herself with the State Personnel Board, arguing that it alone was capable of conducting a fair, nonpartisan inquiry into whether she fired Monegan because he refused to fire Wooten, who had been involved in a messy custody battle with her sister. Some Democrats ridiculed the move, noting that the personnel board answered to Palin. But the board ended up hiring an aggressive Anchorage trial lawyer, Timothy Petumenos, as an independent counse
Palin is now scheduled to be questioned next week, and the counsel’s report could be released soon after. “We took a gamble when we went to the personnel board,” said a McCain aide who asked not to be identified discussing strategy. While the McCain camp still insists Palin “has nothing to hide,” it acknowledges a critical finding by Petumenos would be even harder to dismiss…

for sarah palin to say obama was paling around with a known terr. ayers
was false and misleading, and feeding into the rumor mill, actually counting ont the people at the rally not to be informed people-playing them for stupid.
paling around means spending time with, keeping in touch often.
suffice to say, no matter what you want to say, to support what you want to tell yourself, (true or not) if ayers, and obama were pals, the media would have picked up on it. and i mean the fox news, and those other media agencies
that want to catch obama out on something.
if obama pals around with ayers, as palin said, he would have been caught by now.

this is a ridiculous comment ( i can’t bring myself to call this a story) McCain and Palin, have knowingly and purposefully been bringing false and wildly distorted commentary regarding Obama. With the intent to get the responses from the crowds that they have been getting (terrorist, kill him)They have been getting called on the carpet on this trash talk for over a week. Now that they have a priominent black Congressman standing up to them, they are going to claim they are the innocent victim. It is cowardly and reprehensible of John McCain to be making these claims and then defending them.

I don’t believe you can name one.
This comment was meant to be derogatory.
You Democrats have been elaborating on this very subject for months now….. saying Republican’s have aimed at Obama using VERBAL ATTACKS!…just like Georgia’s Congressman has just himself publically displayed on Senator and Mrs. McCain.

Obama does not have to apologize for something that someone else (not in the campaign said). When will McCain apologize for what has happenned this past week at his rallies? When will he apologize for his VP candidate saying Obama pals around with terrorists? You reap what you sew. McCain is an embarrassment to republicans at this point, and his campaign is wholly beneath the office he seeks. Sad to see that he was willing to trade his honor for victory; and he is losing, so what does that leave him? Hopefully, he can regain some of his former stature, but he will never regain my respect. What a sad, small man he has become.

(THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS BEHAVIOR FROM GOP CHAIRMAN JEFF FREDERICK)
“With so much at stake, and time running short, [Virginia Republican Party Chairman Jeff] Frederick did not feel he had the luxury of subtlety. He climbed atop a folding chair to give 30 campaign volunteers who were about to go canvassing door to door their talking points — for instance, the connection between Barack Obama and Osama bin Laden: “Both have friends that bombed the Pentagon,” he said. “That is scary.” It is also not exactly true — though that distorted reference to Obama’s controversial association with William Ayers, a former 60s radical, was enough to get the volunteers stoked. “And he won’t salute the flag,” one woman added, repeating another myth about Obama. She was quickly topped by a man who called out, “We don’t even know where Senator Obama was really born.” Actually, we do; it’s Hawaii.”
(It is a Shame that the GOP Party has to resort to lying, cheating and stealing in order to try and keep power in their hands and in the hands of their Rich friends. The American people deserve more from their leaders — truth, honesty and integrity, something sorely lacking in the GOP Party!)

Obama can defend them, and he can even apologize for having once advanced their agenda, but to deny that his service with them is dishonest, and dodging the issue by hiding behind the financial fiasco of our day by calling everything else “smears” and a “distraction” is cowardly and devoid of the dignity of the Office which he seeks.

Posted by: The Unshrub | October 12, 2008, 3:36 pm 3:36 pm

Why Senator Obama has to apologize for Mr. Lewis’s words or anybody’s words for that matter? Senator Obama is running for President, not a babysitter. It’s a free country and we have freedom of speech, but freedom comes with responsibility and obligation. So one should be responsbile for one own words, not someone else.
If Mr. Lewis’s words are inflamatory and misinterpreted, he is the one should be explaining and/or apologize.
How would Mr. Davis feel if he said something and it was interpreted in a different way, and McCain has to stand up and apoligize for him? Wouldn’t he be embarrassed? Wouldn’t he wanted to have a chance to explain his meaning, and if neccessary, to apologize himself?
Mr. Lewis did explain on Saturday night that his words were misinterpreted. In a way, he was trying to caution McCain and Palin to remember about Wallace’s incident, and not to play with that fire. He did not mean to compare what McCain and Palin is doing at these rallies are the same as what Wallace did at that time.
And Senator Obama campaign also have already issued a statement that he does not believe what McCain campaign is doing is to be compared to Wallace’s either.
McCain campaign is not innocent in this matter. They did allow these angry voters to say inflamatory words, and did nothing in the beginning. This is how this whole things got started.
So, McCain campaign needs to let it go and needs to concentrate on the things that are important to the voters at this turmoil time or they will lose this election for sure.

Ayers said that before 9/11, not after, and he didn’t specifically say it was the bombing that the “should have done more of. I don’t have much interest in defending the guy, but I do like to keep the facts straight.

The BOTTOM LINE is that Obama should repudiate John Lewis’s race-baiting commments as reprehensible, no matter how much the Obama blind followers try to excuse the comments.

Voter in America,
Ayers is walking around a free man because he got off on procedural technicalities. It doesn’t lessen the violence that he did. For Obama not to publicly repudiate that, once he learned of the facts is inexcusable. With Obama its one case of poor judgment after another.

Obama or his campaign won’t apologize for anything as this is how they play….throw out the race card and act innocent…see what we can incite and distract from our fraud of a candidate.
This is the dirtiest campaign I’ve ever seen and our liberal MSM is to blame too. We are on our way to being told what to do….communisim/socialism, unless someone treats this like Flight 93 and rushes the cockpit and takes down this plane (Obama campaign) before it hits the Capitol! Jock59801,
Isn’t it still true that you have to be “registered” to vote. This is obvious that the effort is one of collusion, because someone was also planning to pull the lever for all those fraudulent registrants. Obama should renounce AcornGate. If not, then we are led to believe that this is what community organizers do.

Posted by: WestCoastMessenger | October 12, 2008, 3:56 pm 3:56 pm

Let’s do some honest comparisons, shall we?
Obama – relationship with 60s terrorist William Ayres. Medium level association.Obama is not alone, Republicans too, associate with Ayres on matters regarding education. Obama was 8 when Ayres did his weather underground – and condemned his behavior when he learned he had not reformed.
McCain – relationship with 80s financial terrorist Charles Keating. High level association, dinners, vacations, cocktails, yachts over several years. McCain was not exonerated but found to be less guilty than other four Keating congressmen. Keating bilks billions from innocent investors. Let’s argue McCain didn’t take bribes, he still thought very highly of Keating and considered him a close personal friend.
Acorn. Non profit organization whose goal is to get poor and under represented people registered to vote. Obama campaign hires them to further that goal. People get paid for productivity and therefore, many names registered are bogus. Its not the integrity of the organization, but of those hired to do the registration. Not good.
Repubicans: pose as election officials in 2004 and send black people to wrong precints where they can’t vote. Untold people are displaced.Republican operatives arrested for voter fraud behavior.
Conclusion: Long history of voter fraud on both sides. Hard to control what sub-level aides and volunteers will do. I don’t think either campaign endorses voter fraud practices though it will surely continue on some level by both sides.
If guilt by association is the measure of the man, sorry but McCain loses. He has always been for corporate America and BIG BANKS. Look too, at Phil Graham, and his wife, Wendy, former CEO of ENRON. Both close friends of McCains.

PS Hillary Clinton gave Community Services Inc $200 000 for GOTV effort durring the primary.
Barack Obama gave Community Services Inc $800 000 for GOTV efforts durring the primary.
Community Services Inc is NOT ACORN!
Also on ACORN:
ACORN spokesman Brian Kettenring said recent charges against the organization are just partisan attacks intended to undermine the group’s voter registration efforts. “The current strategy seems to be, from the right, to create, to manufacture a so-called crisis of voter fraud . . . and then to solve that crisis through measures that are about constricting the electorate, narrowing the electorate, keeping people from being able to vote,”

CNN Fact Check: Is Obama ‘palling around with terrorists’?
The Statement: Republican vice presidential candidate Gov. Sarah Palin said Saturday, October 4, that Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama is “someone who sees America, it seems, as being so imperfect that he’s palling around with terrorists who would target their own country.”
Verdict: False. There is no indication that Ayers and Obama are now “palling around,” or that they have had an ongoing relationship in the past three years. Also, there is nothing to suggest that Ayers is now involved in terrorist activity or that other Obama associates are.

Davis also hilariously said “where was John McCain while Wallace was spewing his hate? He was in a POW camp…”
Of course Wallace’s “segregation today,,,segregation tomorrow…segregation forever” line was from his 1962 speech, four years before McCain was shot down…

Voter in America – Jock is right. It was NOT the prosecutor. It was the Attorney General and others who violated the law which allowed Ayers to get off. You’re blaming the wrong person by saying it was the Prosecutor. Not to miss the point though, I agree that Ayers should have been sent to jail. BTW the Democrats are not going to “steal” the election. Bush and the neocon right wing, whom McCain is pandering to, have alienated the majority of the country. I live in North Carolina. I am a white woman and I can tell you I do not know ANYONE who is voting for McCain and I know a lot of people. Everyone I know or see out is supporting Obama. I see Obama yard signs, bumper stickers, and t-shirts everywhere I go. I have yet to see anything supporting McCain (well, I did see one bumper sticker driving to the beach). The majority of Americans see that the Republican party no longer represents the ideals it once stood for.

It has taken me a while to grasp this simple concept: there are many social groups in this country that can not always be counted on as a whole to vote as one. On the other hand, the group of about 40 million people who proudly call themselves what Bristol Palin’s boyfriend says he is proud to be, will likely all vote as a block. It is this unique property that makes them so valuable to the republicans; convince just a few and the rest will follow like sheep. It was this fact that convinced GW Bush that all he had to do was manipulate the Evangelicial movement into believing his dedication to their movement, and he would take the white house. He was right, but now we know what GW Bush really thinks of the Joe-Six-Pack crowd. McCain also needs these folks to win this election. I think that this is why he appears so erratic of late. You would be erratic too if your because your stupid errors, your campaign found itself forced to get up, and repeat over and over again such statements. Statements, that about 80 percent of the population know are idiotic lies. But for his target group, facts mean very little. Because as long as they hear what they already believe, all is well. Even John McCain, could not have anticipated how effective he would be at stirring up this mob. Now, that the secret service has entered the picture to investigate whether or not something he or “that women” said caused a threat to be made, I would imagine that John McCain finally got the message that picking on people who haven’t got a clue was not working. For, not only was it NOT changing any of their votes (remember they’ve already have made up their minds), but it was actually costing him net votes among decent republicans.

McCain, “”Congressman John Lewis’ comments represent a character attack against Governor Sarah Palin and me that is shocking and beyond the pale.” I call on Senator Obama to immediately and personally repudiate these outrageous and divisive comments that are so clearly designed to shut down debate 24 days before the election.”
McCain attacks Obama, however he does it behind Obama’s back.

Nice video of Joe Louis and Max Schmelling (fight two) Jake. One thing though, in almost 12 years as Heavyweight Champion of the World, Louis, The Brown Bomber, never hit anyone with a low blow. He didn’t have to-nor would he.
Perhaps Rep. John Lewis should study some old tapes of Joe Louis, and he might learn a thing or two-especially something called the Marquis of Queensbury Rules.
I am sure the Congress has their version, and John McCain-a great fight fan from what I understand (as am I)has always adhered to those rules throughout his career, never hitting anyone with a low blow, and he’s won plenty of fights on the Senate floor and elsewhere, without the use of such dirty tactics.
John McCain said it best-Lewis’ remarks went beyond the pale, and he threw a cheap shot at McCain. It’s time for Lewis to apologize.

Unfortunately, there is too much truth in the comparison with George Wallace.
We remember well, the hate he stirred by his rhetoric, much as the words being used by Palin and weakly endorsed by McCain. McCain would like to have it both ways. This is NOT leadership- but, politics of the worse kind.
Palin would do well to take some lessons from Hillary Clinton. Today, she made some searing remarks about the economy in favor of Obama- without the character assassination favored by Palin and McCain.
Palin does not have the knowledge to do anything but use one line character attacks. McCain should and does know better.

If during Wednesday’s debate, McCain goes negative, and Obama is forced to mention the U.S.S. Forrestal disaster where McCain is personally responsible for 133 deaths because of his careless hotdoggin’ (erratic showoff flying crashed a plane into the ship,) it could be a not so nice drubbing to watch as a legacy crumples to the floor.
There is so much Obama has not done to McCain’s reputation. The Contras. The Arizona organized crime connections. The Jimmy Johnson killing. The Ft. Ord land deal. Don Diamond. The undeclared gambling income. But the Forrestal is very devastating…it really does ruin the idea that McCain is a responsible guy. He sat downstairs while others perished.
Then again, with John Lewis, notice he said “Governor Palin and me” rather than put himself first. He’s always hiding behind something. Whether it’s the POW thing, or in this and other cases….hiding behind women. (Don’t hit me!! Don’t hit MEEEEE!!!)
