The Economy… and those Clinton Democrats

Two factors that weren’t fully anticipated early this summer are boosting Barack Obama in the presidential race. One, most powerfully, is the economy; another – surprise – are Clinton Democrats.

Just in time for Hillary Clinton’s appearance with Obama in Orlando last night – the first time they’ve shared a stage since their show of unity in Unity, N.H. back on June 27 – our tracking poll shows Obama with his best support to date among Clinton Democrats, 84 percent.

That’s Obama’s best yet in this group, up from 72 percent in mid-June. At that time one in four Clinton supporters either was going to McCain or undecided; now it’s down to one in 6. That may be as good as it gets for Obama; after all, these are people whose preferred candidate he defeated in a long and hard-fought primary campaign.

We define Clinton Democrats as Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents who wanted her, not Obama, to win the nomination. It’s a substantial group, 20 percent of all likely voters. Some of the most heated debate heading into the Democratic National Convention focused on whether or not they’d come around. Looks like.

On the economy, meanwhile, our latest results show continued high levels of economic unease – with a dramatic effect on vote preferences. Eighty-five percent of likely voters are worried about the economy’s direction the next few years, 44 percent “very” worried; two-thirds are worried about their own family’s finances, one in four very much so.

And boy does it matter. Among people who are “very” worried about the economy, Obama leads McCain by a huge 65-29 percent. Among everyone else, though – be they somewhat worried, or not too worried or not worried at all – McCain leads, 54-43 percent. With no economic worry, in theory at least, there’d be no Obama lead.

The differences aren’t quite so stark on personal finances; here Obama leads big among the very worrieds (by 66 to 27 percent) and less big among somewhat worrieds (by 10 points). Those who aren’t too worried split evenly; McCain leads only among those who aren’t worried about their family finances at all. His problem: They account for just 12 percent of likely voters.

                    Obama   McCainClinton Democrats    84%     15

Economy:Very worried         65      29Not “very” worried   43      54

Family finances:Very worried         66      27Somewhat worried     54      44No too worried       48      48Not at all worried   34      63

Poll kind of sums it up doesn’t it?
Rich folks who don’t need to worry about the economy, support tax cuts for the rich.
Middle class folks who are concerned about being able to pay their heating bill this winter overwhelmingly support Obama.
Not hard to see which candidate is looking out for middle class Americans.

While McSame has 8 homes, 13 vehicles, and a millionairess wife, of course you do not need to worry. This is why those who are not worried about the economy, worry about whether they would still have a job, or put food on the table tomorrow, are supporting Obama because he is the better person to help all of us. McSame has no idea of the economy and how the “everyday” people live from day to day. We cannot afford the McSame to help us because he is unable to relate to our kind of life, and will only help the banks and CEO’s, and those who have money. He has done this over the last 8 years, supporting Bush in ruining our economy. We badly need the change which Obama will help bring about. No more to McCain, McSame!

One reason some Hillary supporters can never support Obama is that Obama’s team bullied Clinton supporters at state caucuses (based on eye-witness reports starting in Iowa and continuing throughout the primary season). Another reason is Obama voted against giving Michigan and Florida voters recognition at the convention until it was certain that the superdelegates would vote for him, at which point he changed his mind. He prevented a re-vote. This again demonstrated his “do anything to win” strategy. Many people believe the superdelegates were threatened with being called racists, so they went with Obama out of fear. So repeatedly playing the “race card” is another reason we can’t support him. A major reason Obama is disliked by Hillary supporters is he co-opted Hillary’s positions to diffuse issues, and since then, he’s changed his stances again, whenever it is necessary to gain political points. Another reason is his lack of experience on governing issues, and absence of any record, except for his work to sign up people to vote for him (ACORN) and his own report (in his autobiographies, probably written by Ayers!). Hillary’s record was long and substantial, and Obama worked to trivialize it.
Obama: You can’t fool all of the people all of the time. We won’t forget.

FYI, Obama tax returns last year – they earned 12 million, so they are rich too. Anyone that rich who would let his half brother starve in Africa earning just one dollar a month, isn’t anyone I would vote for. He talks compassion but doesn’t even have any for his own flesh and blood! He’s not an honest or caring person, otherwise he would put family first.
Funny how ABC/Wash post poles don’t show their breakdown of sampling figures anymore? After the fiasco few weeks ago the ABC/Wash pole showed the Obamasiah 9 points ahead, but they accidentally showed the breakdown between the number of Conservatives and Liberals that were polled. There was a full 13 percent more liberals polled than conservatives and it included an over sampling of African Americans to boot! That’s why they had false results on the polls point spread. They are still doing their samples the same misleading way, by polling more African Americans and Liberals to get the results they want. Those are the irrefutable facts. However you will be hard pressed to find the breakdown in ideologies printed in any future polling statements from ABC/Wash post poles.

Wishful Thinking… we will see who wins in Nov.. polls don’t mean anything.. right now the race is tightening… and it looks like all the dems are already celebrating… reminds me of an ole saying “pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall” don’t drink too much of that kool-aid… Remember the “Bradley Affect” may happen once again…

I for one don’t believe everything that comes out of Mr. Obamas mouth. As an ex Maytag employee I can tell you he came to us and told us he would do everything to keep our jobs from moving to Mexico. Did that happen. No. So please don’t believe everything you hear from him, after all look at the condition of the state he comes from. It’s one of the poorest in the country. I know because I live here.

As a stanch Hillary supporter from the great state of Florida – I will never support a guy like Barack Obama. He is a liability to the party and I am ticked off on how he treated her and didn’t pay off her debt. I worked for the party of a lot of years and I and others I know cannot support this guy for president… we are voting for John this election and hoping Hillary will run in 2012.

I was a Clinton supporter (both Bill and Hillary) but people fail to remember that Bill was a conservative Democrat for the most part. Liberal on social issues but on the economy he came into the White House a pro-big business Arkansas Governor. He implemented the most sweeping welfare reform, was pro-NAFTA and supported, signed off on and still defends the most sweeping regulation of the banking industry in American history – a decision some point to as being the root of the economic crisis we are in today. So economically Clinton did not govern as a liberal which is one of the reasons the far left didn’t rally behind
Hillary in the primaries and were all over her case about issues like NAFTA.
In comparison we have a soon to be departed Republican President George W.
who engaged in excessive spending, increased an entitlement program (Medicare) dramatically and we had the Bush tax cuts. You would have thought he was the Democrat. So when people look fondly back at the economy under the Clinton years you may want to remember this was not a far left liberal President we are talking about.

Here we are, with a mortgage we’re worrying about and utility bills rising. My husband, with a chronic illness, just lost his job and health insurance. Several of his employer’s major clients ‘outsourced’ to India. That’s where my job went too.
The commute from here to the city costs so much, our neighbors are abandoning their lovely homes and renting dinky apartments to keep the jobs paying the mortgages, so they don’t lose them.
Here we are, living on a high mesa, with wind so constant, we think of 10mph as calm, but even the tribes on reservations around us can’t get help to harness it for power.
Think about this. “Government regulation is bad for business,” is why taxpayers like you and me have to ‘bail out’ those businesses that pay their execs millions a year.
Think about this. My 13-year-old grandson spent 5 hours, Saturday, holding an Obama campaign sign beside our busiest street, with his personal message, “I want to go to college,” under it. When children have to worry, not just dream, about their future, it’s time for change.

It’s amazing how these liberal news rag sites like to continue to show that America is in dire straits (doom and gloom) just before the election and if their elected, will change their tune to how good and strong America is…. under their leadership of course…
They want it to stay ugly in America until their elected to office just like Obama wanted the President of Iraq to not deal with the Bush Administration on the pull out until he got into office to show that he is a good and impacting leader.
This is the type of leader the dems want in office… God help us!
They have no vision for our country unlike McCain who puts country first… it’s funny how you don’t see these types of Shenanigans coming from Republicans..

Look at Hilary’s face very carefull, it’s obvious that she’s not happy at all. I can understand how hard it must be for her to be up there with Obama. She fought so hard (harder than other candidates) and received 18 million votes. Do you think it’s easy for her to give up all the hardwork that she had earned and threw herself to support Obama? I’m her supporter and I’m not going to vote for Obama. If I want to vote for him, I would have voted in the fist place during primaries. No matter how much Hilary ask her supporters to vote for Obama, there are many who won’t vote for him. If we have to choose between McCain and Obama, many will choose McCain because to many of us, Obamam is a man without a True Identy. We really don’t know who and what he is.

I am an Independant, and I see Obama as a real liability just like Carter, the Iranians tested him and held US citizens hostage for 400+ days. When Regan was elected those Hostages were released pretty quick. The other thing is that his tax program is not taking into consideration before or after deductions and that is some areas of the US that is lower class income.

Hillary and Biden both said clearly that Obama was not ready to lead our country and now they say he is, why? Only sellouts of the US would now say he is just to gain their pathetic power.

Sharon Here I am working for a small business and the boss already said ehe would be laying 3 of us off if Obama is elected because he would not be able to afford the tax increase. I guess I will be taking the handout Obama is going to give. I will not have to give to society since the government is going to take care of me. I will be able to sit at home and do nothing under Obama except drink beer and see if my check is in the mail.

I just met a man at Obama HQ office in a small town in NC. He said that he was undecided and wanted information to help him make up his mind. I was making a donation and filling out the paper work and overheard a campaign worker telling the man why he should vote for Mr. Obama. She gave him a compelling reason. As a working person making less than $250,000 per year, he or she will get a substantial tax break. The information was taken from a tax expert not connected to the Democratic or Republican campaign. The man thanked the campaign worker, asked for campaign signs and headed out the door. Once people understand how issues will directly affect them, they can make an intelligent decision.

In a recent speech McCain gave this week in PA, he stated ” that government is going to be on a budget just like he is and just like we are”. Hold on a minute, Mccains wife spends 500,000 a month on her American Express credit card. The shoes and outfits the McCains wear cost thousands of dollars. What fu—- world is this man in. I have been so disgusted and disappointed by his conduct, I was a registered Republican for 20 years, but thanks to his lack of putting country first and picking Palin, I am voting for Obama. I cannot believe he would jeopradize this country and it’s safety for his own personal ambition. I try so hard to make any sense of what Palin say’s, she just goes round and round in a circle. There should be some sort of requirement for running for office. The McCain/Palin ticket has become a joke.

Mcain was a Maverick and straight talk express until his choice of Sarah Palin. After his choice of Palin, you know what Humour wins.Maverick and Straight talk express became comedian alright. So you are right.GOP ticket is the ticket of coemdians and dont forget comedians put country first too just like any citizens do.

McPain and Palin claim they are Mavericks.
Definition..of Maverick…in the early 1900′s, there was a cattle rancher in Texas, who claimed he would never “BRAND” his cattle..he said it was inhumane. What he did, however, was drive around the outskirts of large ranches, looking for lost cattle, and when he found them, he STOLE THEM and brought them back to HIS RANCH.
YEAH, that is the GOP ticket, for sure, take away the middle class, so the rich get richer.
We’ve BEEN THERE AND DOWN THAT, these last years, and the story of trickle down…well, its just that, A STORY.
Lets try a new approach.
VOTE OBAMA/ BIDEN FOR REAL CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN.

I was a so-called Clinton Democrat who will not be voting for Obama. He hasn’t the experience for this most awesome job of President of the United States. He has no record of legislative achievement. He voted “present” an unprecidented number of times as a state senator – just couldn’t or wouldn’t make a hard decision or crucial issues. He has a disturbing pattern of affiliating himself with hate mongers, anti-Semites, convicted felons and former terrorists. He lies and flip flops so often it’s impossible to keep track of where he stands. He talks the talk but doesnt’ walk the walk, touting equal pay for equal work while he pays his female staffers 78 centers on the dollar as compared to his male staffers. He has nurtured a culture in his campaign of confrontation and aggression that has resulted in horrid acts toward others. His ties to ACORN (and their subsidiaries) would leave any thinking person wondering about the validity of some of the votes cast for him and for those interested, a thorough analysis has already been done regarding caucus fraud during the primaries and it appears quite likely he stole the nomination from Clinton (with a colluding Democratic Party power structure backing him all the way). He accuses those who don’t support him or who question him as being racist. He embraced as a mentor and father figure a man who spewed hateful, anti-Semitic rants for 20 years, then claimed he never heard them, then claimed he heard them but didn’t agree with them.
How any thinking person can support this candidate is beyond me.
There is no there, there. We’ve set the bar too low and the media can congratulate themselves for the horrendous job of highly biased reporting they have done all year.

Hillary Supporter and Puma voting for McCain/Palin in CA
Another phony poll. No one in their right mind would believe that Obama is better for our economy or anything else. I come from a Democratic family and we are all voting for McCain. Why? Obama is not trustworthy and his economic plan doesn’t add up.
Originally, Obama stated that only taxpayers earning over $250,000 would be paying higher incomes taxes. Then, Joe the Plumber, bless him, had BO state his true agenda “distributing the wealth” of other Americans.
What Obama doesn’t say is anywhere between 30 to 40% of taxpayers do not pay income taxes. They might pay a SS Tax, state tax, or another type of tax. In effect, Obama’s plan is a tax rebate or tax welfare plan for people that do not pay income taxes.
Now, Barney Frank states that if the Dem administration gets in, they will touch SS taxes and revenues to redistribute the pie. What utter nonsense.
Women’s rights – If Obama is such a believer in women’s rights, why does Obama pay his female staffers less than McCain does?
If Obama is such a believer in women’s rights, why did he select Biden over the female candidate that earned 18 million votes?
If Obama is a believer in women’s rights, why do BO, the MSM, the DP, and his supporters advocate misogyny?
Polls – BO and the MSM have one goal in mind to shut down any dissent against him. Anytime someone opposes him, they are declared a racist. When a candidate, the media, a party, and his supporters are playing the racism card 24/7, most people are going to remain silent about their choice or say they will vote for this fake candidate.
Go Team McCain/Palin

Obama-Biden have displayed contempt for women; contempt for people who work for a living; and contempt for the welfare and safety of US citizens. Biden’s most recent remarks are entirely irresponsible, but clearly illustrate that electing Obama would be a threat to the country. What Biden tries to market as Obama’s “steel spine” cannot conceal his crony’s lack of knowledge, sophistication, and incompetence in diplomacy and world affairs.
Obama failed at building a consensus within the Democratic Party among PUMAs and others who were life-long democrats and now voting for McCain-Palin. As far as attempting diplomacy in an international arena – it’s a joke, but the joke will be at the expense and suffering of US citizens.

FOR ALL THOSE CLINTON SUPPORTERS WHO WANT TO VOTE FOR McCain — THINK AGAIN, AND THINK TWICE!!
IF OBAMA LOSE THIS ELECTION, IT IS ALMOST CERTAIN THAT PALIN WILL BECOME THE FIRST WOMAN PRESIDENT.
I ALSO SUPPORTED HILLARY – BUT WITH THE ENTRY OF PALIN, IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT WE HAVE TO KEEP PALIN IN ALASKA.
IF McCain/Pain WIN THIS ELCTION, HILLARY HAS ABSOLUTELY NO CHANCE TO BECOME PRESIDENT.
IF OBAMA/BIDEN WIN, 8 YRS FROM NOW BIDEN WILL BE 72, AND MOST PROBABLY WILL NOT RUN FOR PRESIDENCY. HILLARY WILL BE ONLY 68, AND STILL YOUNG ENOUGH TO MAKE ONE MORE SUCCESSFUL RUN, AND HAS THE BEST POTENTIAL TO BE THE FIRST WOMAN PRESIDENT.

I do not believe that the numbers of Clinton democrats voting for Obama is as high as the media tries to suggest.
I voted for Hillary in the primary and I voted as a democrat all my life – until this year. I am a black woman and I am voting for McCain-Palin this year.
The democratic party is a disgrace. It has been taken over by socialists who do not care about all the loyal democrats who helped build this party over the years.
My vote for McCain-Palin is a vote AGAINST Obama, Reid, Dean, Pelosi & Brazile. They cheated, they bullied, they lied and they manipulated to get Obama the nomination. If that gang gets the power they will destroy this country and the democratic party.
Not only am I voting for a Republican president, but I am voting republican all the way down my ticket. The democrats are on a power trip as they imagine pushing liberal policies down the throats of americans and they need to be stopped before these socialists push policies on this country that will create chaos.

Many people in Michigan for a fact didn’t even bother to vote for undecided (I did) because their candidate wasn’t on the ballot.Michigan wouldn’t do it over.Bill didn’t help things either and I voted for him both times, but sometimes his mouth runs and he doesn’t know when to stop, about as bad as Biden, maybe worse.

People need to wake up. Obama is not talking about taking Joe the Plumbers money and giving it to people without jobs. That is ridiculous and untrue. He is talking about Mega rich people who are raking in obscene profits while paying their workers minimum wage. If they complain too loud about the low wages, they look for workers in India or China to do the work so they can make even higher profit.
Think about the Walmart hiers making billions a year while their workers can’t pay rent. Think about mortgage and finance CEO’s with paychecks of 487 million over three years while they rape homeowners. Think about Oil execs making 500 billion a year in profit while they bleed America dry.
Wake up people. These mega rich 1-5% don’t let ANYTHING trickle down. They rape the American worker for everything they can and they DON’T PAY TAXES! They write off losses, find every loophole and then have folks like McCain subsidize them. AND YES … paying taxes is patriotic!! It is how we fund America. The problem is that the middle class carries the burden while the mega-rich carry off the rewards.

I was a PUMA for a while; then I woke up. As much as we’d love to see Hillary in the White House, we can’t let that blind us to the terrible policies that McCain would put in place: more war, bad economy, everything favoring the rich instead of the great American middle class. Obama’s not my first choice, but McCain — and especially Palin — are the worst!

You so called democrats and Hillary supporters who are crying about not voting for Obama because your feelings are hurt are either lying or incredibly superficial. If you voted for Hillary in the primaries for any of the right reasons, ie her policies on economics, foreign policy, women’s rights, social issues, or anything else that matters, then you would have no excuse not to vote for Barack. Voting the other way would betray everything you believe in. To make a choice you believe is wrong over sour grapes is ridiculous.

Posted by: Jason | October 22, 2008, 11:46 am 11:46 am

Sorry to disappoint but there are millions of Clinton democrats voting for McCain. Hurt feelings have nothing to do with our switching parties. Obama and his racist and anti-American friends and associates have everything to do with it. Hillary and Bill have lost the respect of so many people that she wouldn’t stand a chance to win a future election. To ignore the hatred that spews out of Rev. Wrights mouth whom Obama considers family is repulsive and to believe that he has disowned him is just stupidity.

I was at the Obama/Clinton rally in Orlando and I saw sincerity on Hillary’s face. I am so tired of the same old Republican tactics. The Obama family earned just over 4 million last year, of which 3.9M was from sales of his book. Give us all a break. The RIGHT has had control for the majority of the last 28 years, and look where we are now… in two wars, with almost 20 times the national debt, and on the verge of a depression. The Republicans and those who would even consider voting for them have their heads in the sand, or possibly a worse place. The politics and policies of GREED are hopefully over.

we all know that some voters are loony fringe, we need to be patient with them and let them blow off steam. They only impact one another with their ravings.

To Add… PUMA is a bad joke. The majority of these people aren’t Democrats, they are “conservatives”, whatever that means. This is the perfect example of Andy Warhol’s 20 minutes of fame. This fraud is so shallow. Anyone who would vote for Hillary in a clear conscience could NEVER vote for a ticket with Sarah Palin on it.

Walmart and it’s owners control a large chunk of the wealth in the US.
They get away with paying dirt salaries and minimal or no benefits to their employees.
The taxpayers foot the bill for Walmart profits by paying for social services like food stamps, medicaid for impoverished Walmart employees.

PUMA… I voted for Hillary and watched the DNC propp up Obama. Obama with no experience, or good judgement. Obama says how all the poor and middle class are struggelling to make ends met. Trying to pay for Gas & groceries. Well, His Record Fundraising doesn’t compute. He’s getting Big Bucks From somewhere, my question is Where?
And Alot of Terrorist Groups around the world suport a Obama presidency in the US. My question is Why?
I vote for whom is Best Qualified to be President. I didn’t vote for Bush#1 or Bush#2 either time. And I’m not voteing for Obama. It’s called Common Sense.

It was the hold-over Clinton Dems that got us into this economic mess in the first place…where do you think Franklin Raines came from? Oh, and this genius is one of Obama’s Economic Advisors now…we are in trouble.

Check out the lawsuit filed against the Oboma campain in Nevada.
The Hillary supporters who support MCCain are not upset, “becasue their feelings were hurt” as some on this site suggest.
It comes down to simple JUSTICE. Obama stole the election from Hillary Clinton.
How does this power grab reflect upon future Barry projects?

Hey lets face it the Democrats do better when its an issue on the economy. Supply Side now does not work. Trickle Down theories don’t match with Keysian Economics.
