The Note: McCain Scrambles for Closing Message
ABC News’ Rick Klein reports in Tuesday’s Note:
Here they all come — socialists and terrorists and (though still not a certain evangelist) — plus a plumber who gets a late chance to join them. (Surely, the president’s invitation was lost like a swing-state mailer.)
So Sen. John McCain sets an interesting table for these final two weeks, and throws everything he can onto it. (Is that really a Republican candidate calling a Democratic candidate a liberal? And your campaign is really all about the economy, senator?)
But voters may no longer be hungry, even for red meat. (And how many dishes can they stomach, anyway?)
McCain and Gov. Sarah Palin will work it hard on their diminished map. But that’s no guarantee that anyone will still be listening. And there’s a trap here: the more they fight, the more they fall into the flailing/erratic quicksand put in place by their rivals.
Sen. Barack Obama will be able to take two days off the trail to visit his ailing grandmother in Hawaii, most likely without serious worry about ceding ground.

He’s got it to spare (even if Sen. Joe Biden does his best to wear it down): It’s a nine-point Obama edge — 53-44 — in the first day of the ABC News/Washington Post tracking poll.
The fundamentals, shall we say, appear soundly in place: “John McCain has climbed back from his record shortfalls on economic empathy and ‘change’ since the final presidential debate last week — but not enough to alter the basic dynamic of his contest with Barack Obama,” ABC Polling Director Gary Langer writes.
With apologies to Joe the Plumber . . . Obama “still leads in trust to handle the economy overall, voters’ overwhelming issue, by 16 points, 55-39 percent, essentially the same as pre-debate,” Langer writes.
How does McCain win without this edge? “Here is Barack Obama’s favorite number right now: 49 percent of likely voters say he is the best candidate to handle an unexpected crisis. Only 45 percent of likely voters say that about McCain, according to the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll,” ABC’s George Stephanopoulos reports in his new blog. “What a difference four months makes.”
A glimmer: “While Obama’s lead is steady across these polls, there were indications that McCain has improved his position on some issues and some attributes important to voters’ decision-making,” Dan Balz and Jon Cohen write in The Washington Post. “Since the Post-ABC poll taken before the final debate, McCain has narrowed the gap with Obama on understanding the economic problems people in the country are facing, on bringing needed change to Washington and on the question of which candidate is the ‘stronger leader.’ ”

He can scramble all he wants. McLame and his party are out of touch, out of ideas and out of time. Go home McLame and sit in your rocking chair. You look older by the second. We don’t need this in the WH – what happens when he looses control and starts shaking like a fool (oh, wait a minute – he is a fool) and touches the wrong button? Wake Up Voters! There is no conclusion but that we need a new, younger, and more calm and collected voice in Washington and it isn’t McLame, Botox Barbie McLame and prom queen Sarah.

McSame, who did not have the ability to understand the economy and the economics of running a country, he, who has followed the wrong path of McBush as a sidekick for the last 8 years is now trying to portray himself as the “other” side? This blatant lying is actually showing him in his true colors. His lack of judgment in blindly following and supporting the Iraq war, a failing proposition, as even the Iraqis now want us out as fast as possible, instead of the 100 years McSame wanted, his wrong judgment of Palin as VP, the most unprepared and unqualified person for this post at this time, shows how wrong he is and can be and will be. McSame is the wrong man to help us out of the problems we are now facing. Wrong time, wrong man, wrong McSame.!

Sen. McCain stepped up his attack this week when he said that the Obama plan’s “billions of dollars in higher taxes would kill jobs.” An Obama aide responded that “Sen. McCain’s tax policy is an exercise in unprecedented fiscal recklessness” that would “explode the deficit.”
Obama does not get it. MORE jobs means more taxes collected with spending cuts means REDUCTION of the deficit.
Obama wants to tax the oil companies and waste the collected taxes with federal government spending. The same spending waste used for his housing projects in Illinois. Where did the tax dollars go?
http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2008/06/27/grim_proving_ground_for_obamas_housing_policy/?page=1
You Betcha Palin Is A Tough Governor: This is Governor Palin Way Of Spending Oil Tax Money.
During the oil crisis of 2007, Palin fought to raise taxes on oil companies. As fuel prices skyrocketed in the lower 49 states, Palin complained that her state wasn’t getting its share of the windfall.
Palin successfully pushed for a law that raised taxes on oil profits. The increase amounted to an estimated $1.6-billion annually more for the state: double the amount it received the year before. Then she gave the money to the people.
It’s true: we’ve already checked her claim that she sent “a large share of that revenue directly back to the people of Alaska.”
On Aug. 7, 2008, the Alaska Legislature approved a measure she promoted. The administration of Alaska’s governor Sarah Palin now gives $1,200 to every single Alaskan. This comes to about $741-million for state residents. In addition, each resident will receive an annual dividend of $2,000 from an oil-wealth savings account. That comes to about $741-million for state residents
For a family of 7 (Gov. Palin has 7 members in her family) that means an additional $22,400.00 in income sent from the state of Alaska. WOW, who needs a job! Back to the trailer, Billy Bob!
Sarah Palin is more ready for the Washington, D.C. crowd than Obama. Obama has proven he cannot even take care of a simple housing project. How can YOU expect Obama to run the country?
Obama gave the people in Illinois broken down housing and dangerous living conditions. Where did the money go? What pockets were filled with tax payers’ money from Washington, D.C.? We know where Governor Sarah Palin’s tax money is. The tax money is in the pockets of the residents of Alaska. BOOOOOOOO To Obama. BOOOOOOOO To Obama

He has aged a lot. Which is scary, because we could end up with Palin running the country.

According to the article Obama is going to Hawaii to visit his ailing grandmother. I hope she comes thru OK, we would not want this to be one of the reason’s Obama is distracted.
But on the other hand, here we are in a finacial crisis, it took President Bush to request Obama to help with our ailing economy.

The draft of our young men into the military will return with Obama. Therefore, all you mothers and grandmothers out there remember your vote for Obama drafted your sons and grandsons into the military. Here is why it will happen:
Michael F. Scheuer, the founding head of the CIA’s bin Laden unit: Senator Obama must have left a couple zeroes off his plan for reinforcements. Two brigades — which is about 6,000 men — will not make a lick of difference in Afghanistan, which is a country the size of Texas, with the highest mountains on earth, a hostile population, and a growing Islamist insurgency. If Obama starts talking about 100 brigades — about 300,000 men — then the public might be able to assume he means business. Otherwise, he is just blowing smoke. Obama and all the other candidates in the other parties constantly say that “we have tried the military option and it does not work.” This of course is a bald lie; U.S. military power has been used most daintily in Afghanistan and Iraq. If the military power we have delivered in both places so far is the best we can do, then American taxpayers have been monumentally swindled in the amount of taxes they have paid for their military during the past 25 years. And another billion dollars for aid for Afghan reconstruction would just be another billion wasted. It appears that Obama and his fellow candidates in both parties have not learned that programs for economic recovery, internal stability, and nation-building cannot be started with any hope of effectiveness and durability until the enemy has been definitively annihilated. If Obama is right and the military option has failed, then more aid is just throwing money away because — as all can see — the enemy is growing in size and ferocity and shows no signs of being on the edge of annihilation.
Democrat President LB Johnson used Vietnam to enrich the industrial-military-complex. Moreover, the Vietnam War helped LB Johnson with the unemployment problem. Sounds cruel and unreal, but it is a historic fact.
Then there is the opportunity to draft women into the national service of many different jobs. You never heard of the national service program that Colin Powell and Barack Obama think is a great idea. Obama will be full of surprises because Democrats want to control people. Of course, that is not socialism, but then I do not know what to call it. Demsoism may be a good name.

It all comes down to two things: money and organization. Obama has plenty of both. Because of the money he can compete in every state he chooses, including those normally red. McCain has to defend those states that may turn blue. In Indiana for example, Obama has 44 field offices while McCain has none. Axelrod’s organization has resulted in hundreds of thousands of new voter registrations, and on election day that organization will turn to getting out the vote.

I LOVE the fact that Palin, Gulliani, Thompson, McCain and others all made condescending remarks about Obama’s experience as an organizer.
Now Obama has beat them by being much better organized and one step ahead of them the entire race. He has showed superior leadership and planning by all measures.
McCain and Parrot have no idea how to lead.
Obama is about change, so McCain decided he was about change.
Obama was helping the middle class, so McCain decided he should start talking about the middle class.
Now McCain is trying to be the “fighter” like Hillary displayed in the primary.
Too funny. Nothing new. No new ideas. No new direction. Same old GOP.

Blackjack,
Your funny.
You failed to mention how the Parrot requested more FEDERAL money per capita than any other governor as part of her “fiscal conservativism”. (More than Obama did) Shhhhhhhh. Don’t mention that ok?
Also, the oil tax back-to-the-people of Alaska was already in place BEFORE she was governor. She just increased it.
And what? She INCREASED taxes on the oil companies? Doesn’t this go directly against your initial point that raising taxes reduces jobs? Now I’m confused.
Please get your comments organized. You’re acting like the McCain campaign. You’re all over the place.
And what you and McCain fail to realize is that business will not create more jobs for anyone if there is no market. When consumers – i.e. 85% of us who make up the middle class – have no money, there will be no more job creating.
Supply side economic theory has FAILED miserably. EVERY economic metric shows this. You guys are still trying to say that the economy is driven by production. It’s driven by consumption.

It’s true that the Bush administration has stood for light regulation of capital markets. But it did not invent this approach. By the middle of the last decade, experts across the spectrum believed that U.S. financial institutions faced outmoded restraints on their ability to innovate. Thus, the Clinton administration, supported by then-Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan, refused to tighten regulations on financial derivatives, memorably dubbed “financial weapons of mass destruction” by Warren Buffett. The 1999 repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act, a Depression-era law separating commercial banking and investment banking, passed with overwhelming bipartisan support in Congress and was signed into law by President Bill Clinton.
Should also focus on Obama’s drug use. This was not the casual use of pot but a hard core drug that if he were caught would have been a felony and disqualify from from even running for president. In many countries he would just be getting out of jail.

White America is looking at too much favoritism for the Afro-Americans by Obama selecting retired general Colin L. Powell. White Americans are asking, “How many more Afro-Americans will Obama select for high US government offices?” Osama’s selection of Colin L. Powell is creating paranoia and that is powerful enough to lose the election.

With Obama’s grandmother becoming ill, McCain and Palin are on a slippery slope.
If they attack Obama, it will be viewed as attacking someone while they take care of their family. Americans have always banded together when we see someone taking care of family in tragic times. Attacking Obama now will cause McCain and Palin negative numbers to skyrocket.
The decision is up to McCain and Palin. If they attack, it may very well be the end of their political careers.

fyi…from Raleigh News & Observer.
Obama, Hagan lead up
Obama’s lead in North Carolina is widening, according to the latest numbers by Public Policy Polling.
The Democratic firm surveyed 1,200 likely voters on Oct. 18 and 19 and found that Obama has a 51-44 lead over McCain. That is the biggest lead yet for Obama in PPP’s surveys.
PPP said Obama is faring well with independent voters, with a 51-33 lead over McCain. McCain leads 55-39 among white voters, while Obama leads 92-6 among black voters.
In the same poll, PPP’s results show Democratic challenger Kay Hagan is piling up big numbers among suburban voters in her race against Republican incumbent Elizabeth Dole.
Hagan leads, 49-42.
PPP officials said Hagan is “annihilating” Dole among suburban voters, 54-36.
The margin of error was plus or minus 2.8 percentage points.

As a republican I urge McCain to stay cool and get out of this with is honor in tact. Look, folks have have a been a conservative all my life and I will always be a devoted republican, the fact here is that I do belive what General Collin Powell said in regards to Sarah Palin, she is not fit in any way to be head of this nations, simple. If McCain dies due to his health issues we can very well end up with this women as the next president and that is a scarry scenario. I really belive the Barack Obama is a good and decent man the will do very well. What we republicans need to do is first get a better candidate, come up with better ideas and most importanly choose a better qualify VP. Sarah Palin is the biggest scam ever. I talked to many of my republican friends and they all say the same thing, they will not vote for McCain becasue they know deep down that Sarah Palin is not qualify of fit to be president. In regards to they race issue that is not even in my mind. Brack Obama is as white as hes black. He can say hes white any time he wants too!!! I belive that Obama is more conservative than some in my own party. Hes cool, calm and colective under presure. For what I can see hes very smart and es a good guy. I will cast my vote for Obama/Biden. I see the McCain/Palin a risky choice due to the health of John McCain and the prospect of having Sarah Palin steping in.

I completely agree with Joe Biden: The world will test President Obama. What he didn’t say, of course, is that the world would also test President McCain. The difference is that President Obama would be up to that challenge far better than President McCain would be. President Obama would — with his advisors — develop a clear, unemotional, forceful response….President McCain would panic, suspend the Easter Egg Roll on the White House lawn, jump in with both feet (on their way to his mouth), and THEN try to figure out where he went wrong.

If the manner in which McCain has run his campaign is a preview of how he would run his presidency this election is a no brainer.
McCain will impulsively react.
All the McCain/Palin campaign has successfully achieved is to rally divide and hate.
Is this what America really is, a nation divided by hate?
The Republicans have lied to us through its leadership for the past eight years. Can we trust another Republican that flip flops on his principles to garner votes?
In my opinion McCain couldn’t even stand up to the people running his campaign, how can he stand up to problems that face the United States of America?
Joe Biden said it best this past weekend. The world will test the new President and Vice President.

A solid 2/3 of the nation feel she is unqualified for the Vice Presidential position.
As mayor, she took a solvent town of 6000 and left it $22 million in debt. And really, that’s all she did. As mayor, she had no fire, police, or educational system to oversee. No diversity in wasalla like in the US.
As Gov, she requested more earmarks per capita than any other state. Is McCain going to “”show us her picture and let us know her name” as he said?
And because she increased Alaska state tax on oil companies, they get to write it off and pay LESS in FEDERAL TAX. How exactly does that help the US?
You want to talk about her “strengths” again?

Hired the same people who destroyed your campaign, you know the ones who smear, tell falsehoods so that way you don’t have to let anyone know what your plans are because you dont have any. What is the real reason NielPA? Are you getting paid like the rest of McCain lobbyist to push your agenda?

John Sidney McCain’s favorite religious leader…Rev. John Hagee
Rev. Hagee’s favorite sermons: “God sent Hitler to force the Jews to Israel.”
“God sent Katrina to punish New Orleans for their sins.”
“The Catholic Church is the Great Wh*re”
I am a Republican, I will be voting for Obama/Biden
I will never vote for a dirty, corrupt policitician who puts campaign before country. Never!

Call the Obama Press Office and ask them when Sen. Obama will be releasing his Small Donors List. Hillary made hers available. So does John McCain. It is HOGWASH for the obama campaign to claim that they “don’t keep track of the information.” It is a LIE. Call today. Call often. Wow, I’d take that bet. Not even a possibility that will happen.

The draft is more likely to return under McCain, since he seems ready to take on Iran and Russia.

I understand there are definite economic cocerns. However, there are moral issues of life and death that are being ignored or minored on by many during this campaign. Namely, the destruction of millions of babies while in their mother’s womb. Hitler made promises of change for the German society. People were willing to follow him as he mixed his sugar of “change”, with the poison of the holocaust. Germany eventually reaped what they sowed. I wonder when Americans will reap the consequences of continuing to ignore the plight of the unborn.

Posted by: linda n carolina | October 21, 2008, 10:35 am 10:35 am
Racist men and male chauvinist FEAR Sarah Palin because they know she can succeed and that frightens men more than Obama’s questionable terrorist friendships. The world is changing and women are equal to men and men cannot take the competition. In all history, men have been the puppets for women.
There is a long list of successful women business leaders and successful women leading their country.
Michelle Bachelet, a moderate socialist who is Chile’s first female president and only the second woman ever elected to lead a South American nation, was sworn in last March. Reformer Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, the first female president on the African continent, now runs Liberia and is helping to put Charles Taylor, the disgraced former president, on trial for war crimes and crimes against humanity related to the conflict in Sierra Leone. And Han Myung-sook, a former dissident who was once jailed as a political prisoner, became South Korea’s first female prime minister in April.
Margaret Beckett became the U.K.’s first female foreign minister in May, replacing Jack Straw, who had been Prime Minister Tony Blair’s key spokesman leading up to the war in Iraq. Also in May, Tzipora Livni was appointed as Israel’s second most powerful politician, adding the vice prime ministership title to her foreign ministry post. Dora Bakoyannis is the first women ever appointed to a senior cabinet position in Greece. Nigeria’s Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, after a cabinet reshuffle in June, moved from her post as finance minister to foreign affairs; she is considered a presidential front-runner in the next election. Don’t forget the little giant that runs the Phillippines, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
Women continue to gain ground running foreign affairs. Condoleezza Rice, for example, continued hammering away as the U.S.’s top diplomat, attempting to midwife a cease-fire in the Middle East as well as stitch together an international compromise to get Iran and North Korea back to the nuclear negotiating table.
Obama wants to tax the oil companies and waste the collected taxes with federal government spending. The same spending waste used for his housing projects in Illinois. Where did the tax dollars go?

Obama gave the people in Illinois broken down housing and dangerous living conditions. Where did the money go? What pockets were filled with tax payers’
money from Washington, D.C.? We know where Governor Sarah Palin’s tax money is. The tax money is in the pockets of the residents of Alaska.
Sarah Palin is four times the better candidate when comparing to Obama. Obama who could not even run a housing project in Illinois. He will never be able to run a country that has a lot more houses.

It has been reported by a national media report that Colin Powell said that it does not matter if a U. S. president is Muslim.
To hell it doen’t!! I went to seminars held by retired officials of NATO who talked about the “Changing Face of Europe”. Did you know that there are ove 1,700 mosques and that Islam is the second largest religion in France and the govt. of France is fighting Islamic terrorist in their country constantly? Does it matter that in England the most radical Islams have moved there and are demanding that their laws be enforced in lieu of the British laws in Great Britian and they want to built the largest mosque in Europe right in the middle of where the Olympics will be held and that they are terrorising London all the time? It is predicted that by the turn of the century W. Europe will have a majority of Muslims.
We were established as a Christian nation under the Jewish-Christian religions. A Jewish American President would be great as Christians & Jews respect one another, but the Muslims want to deominate the world. Colin Powell has lost his mind, completely. If the U.S. elects Obama, there the terrorist will just have to wait it out because they won’t need to bomb one of our cities; why waste bombs when they can just take over.

I have decided to vote EARLY for McCain/Palin.
I am a registered Democrat but I am alarmed that Obama//Biden /Pelosi/Reid have become extreme SOCIALIST LIBERALS who want to “spread the wealth”.
Every US immigrant who came from a communist country/dictatorship (and are US Citizens and planning to vote) should be APPALLED, since many came here to escape from that kind of suppression.
I DO NOT want the government to give my hard-earned money to lazy bums who are just waiting for hand-outs.

Listen to what Colin Powell said, you ignorant human being. He said there are people of all faiths and denominations in our country that are willing to become members of the armed forces and risk their lives defending the country and its principles. If someone is willing to risk their life for their country, they have every right to be considered for public office.
John F Kennedy was ridiculed for being Irish American and CATHOLIC, (which is a form of Christianity). He had to fight to become President, just as Obama is trying to fight the bigots, racists, and other slow thinking moronic individuals.
Gramps McCain and Caribou Barbie are, before our eyes, attempting to turn back the clock and bring this country back to the where things were in the 50′s and 60′s, wiping out a half century of progress and social reform.

Well Obuma can send in his clown!!
I think the most ‘telling ‘ (foreshadowing ) statement Biden made was , “And he’s gonna need help. And the kind of help he’s gonna need is, he’s gonna need you – not financially to help him – we’re gonna need you to use your influence, your influence within the community, to stand with him. Because it’s not gonna be apparent initially, it’s not gonna be apparent that we’re right.”
This can be summed up to simply state “get ready , America ’cause you’re not going to like what we are getting ready to do to you !”

Let’s talk a bit about the scare word of the day, “socialism”. Socialism, by definition, involves control of the means of production by workers and/or citizens (a democratic government being nothing more or less than the collective will of citizens). It’s as scary as your neighborhood co-op.
Nothing particularly socialist has been advanced by either of the major candidates. The Wall Street bailout has some of the hallmarks, insofar as taxpayers will actually receive some equity for our largess, but that’s not the same as nationalizing the banking industry, and both candidates have expressed support.
Now if you want to redefine Socialism loosely as “spreading the wealth”, I can certainly think of a major government program that qualifies. In this program, money was taken from the primary regional industry, segregated by the state government, and now funds an annual handout to every resident of the state, even those who are unemployed and the working poor who earn too little to pay taxes.
That program is the Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend, and Governer Palin not only supported the program (as does any Alaskan politician who wants to get elected), she proudly and actively expanded it. It’s one of the few things I agree with her on (in lieu of running the oil companies out of town on a rail, which is a heartwarming thought, but rather impractical).
So the only people who need to be scared by that scare word “socialism” is a very small group at the very top of the economic ladder. And while they’re doing their level best to monger fear amongst those less affluent and educated than their pampered selves, they’re not very frightened either. Not even the most ambitious plan advanced by either candidate is going to alter the quality of their lives in any measurable sense.
Let’s put the boogeymen back in the closet and talk about reality for a change.

A message to the Kool-Aid drunk Obama Nation (hereafter KADON)
KADON, I think that you might be able to grasp the idea that few earn over $250,000 without a little help, a little help from, well, employees. Now, for simplicity, lets refer to those as employers, whether they be rich individuals or corporations. Enterprises run by employers, KADON, may well, not be the only supplier of the products/services they offer. They may well compete against many suppliers, even some from abroad, even some from abroad having certain cost advantages. These cost advantages, KADON, could be wages, raw material prices or, they could be tax expenses. That is right taxes are expenses, to employers, wealthy or not. Now, lets think about those U.S. corporations that are fighting for their life (please read this also to be fighting for the existence of the jobs that they offer, to employees, in the U.S.). Many corporations maintain physical presence in both the U.S. and the abroad. Now, hypothetically, if, their operations in the U.S. face an 80% tax rate on profits, while their Malaysian operations face only a 15% tax rate, then do you see, how it makes economic sense, for the employer, to think it is likely a very good decision to move operations from Ohio to Malaysia? Now, it will be more subtle, the tax rates aren’t nearly as different, but they are different. Then, they might just stop hiring in Ohio and hire only in Malaysia. In any case, there are some in Ohio who might either be laid off or not hired.
Regardless, even though your dear candidate will offer 95% of all Americans a lower tax rate, those laid off because their rich employer had to shift jobs overseas, still have no job. They’ll be baffled 3 years from now. Maybe they’ll say, I should have said thanks, but no thanks Senator on that tax plan to nowhere.
So KADON, understand this simple lesson. The wealthy employ. If changes occur to the cost structure in their operations, including tax expenses, they will be incented to react, if they don’t they may find themselves at a cost advantage sufficient to erode their economic viability on a permanent basis, or at least until they cease to exist, in which case, nobody has a paycheck from them.
Ok, rich American corporations, lets assume that our above corporation is not struggling, lets say that it is called Exxon. Well, KADON, Exxon produces some energy in America, using American employees to do so. America is not a cheap place to produce energy. What, do you think Exxon will do, when President Obamba raises, as he likes to say so often, taxes on corporations that export jobs overseas? You got it! They’ll divest (reads: send to the unemployment lines) their American energy production operations.
This is an important concept, about wealth redistribution, that I want you to grasp KADON. When President Obama puts millions of Americans, formerly employed by ‘wealthy corporations that export jobs overseas’, onto the unemployment line, they will not, unless Ms. Pelosi redistributes wealth and gives them a nice fat Socialist welfare check, have any money to buy the goods and services offered by all small businesses, including those that the young Senator claims he will not tax additionally. Small business owners will be baffled too. “President Obama, thanks for not taxing my income additionally, thanks for going after the evil rich, but, my profit is nowhere near $232k, as it was before you took office, it is $104k, what happened? I drank the Kook-aid! I promise I did. I had to lay off 2 employees because demand is so weak for my products, because so many corporate types have been laid off and have no money to buy my products. I feel like a wealthy employer, please help”…
Is it sinking in?
One final thing, I hate to burst the bubble of all of you out there that have drank Mr. Obama’s Kool-aid, but when he says “tax cuts for employers that export jobs overseas”, he isn’t really referring to Republican led legislation that actually instructed the IRS to give a tax credit to all corporations that actually did export jobs. What he is really referring to is Republican led legislation that incented corporations to not export jobs, by giving them a tax cut, but, even though the tax cuts were given, jobs were still exported, because the tax cuts weren’t sufficient, for some, to allow them to maintain their U.S. employment. This is yet another aspect that Mr. Gibson, Ms. Couric, MSNBC, etc. have failed to present to the American public. Shame on them!
I hope that this helps you all with your future pOstings, here and elsewhere.

Two weeks from today, Americans will be asked to cast their vote for the next president of the United States. There’s no time to wait. Let’s get right to it.
Did you hear what Senator Biden said at a fundraiser on Sunday? He guaranteed that if Barack Obama is elected, we’ll face an international crisis within the first six months of their administration. He told Democrat donors to mark his words – that there were “at least four or five scenarios” that would place our country at risk in an Obama administration. Thanks for the warning, Joe!
He didn’t specify what all those four or five scenarios will be, but for clues, let’s review the Obama foreign policy agenda.
Our opponent wants to sit down with the world’s worst dictators. With no preconditions, he proposes to meet with a regime in Teheran that vows to “wipe Israel off the map.” Let’s call that crisis scenario number one.
Senator Obama has also advocated sending our U.S. military into Pakistan without the approval of the Pakistani government. Invading the sovereign territory of a troubled partner in the war against terrorism. We’ll call that scenario number two.
He opposed the surge strategy that has finally brought victory in Iraq within sight. He’s voted to cut off funding for our troops, leaving our young men and women at grave risk. He wants to pull out, leaving some 25 million Iraqis at the mercy of Iranian-supported Shiite extremists and al Qaeda in Iraq. By his own admission, this could mean our troops would have to go back to Iraq. Crisis scenario number three.
After the Russian army invaded the nation of Georgia, Senator Obama’s reaction was one of indecision and moral equivalence – the kind of response that would only encourage Vladimir Putin to invade Ukraine next. That would be crisis scenario number four.
But I guess the looming crisis that most worries the Obama campaign right now is Joe Biden’s next speaking engagement. Let’s call that crisis scenario number five.
The real problem is that these warnings from Joe Biden are similar to his earlier assessment of Barack Obama. It wasn’t so long ago that he said Barack Obama wasn’t up to the job, and that, quote, “the presidency is not something that lends itself to on-the-job training.”
The same Joe Biden said he would be honored to run on the ticket with John McCain because, quote, “the country would be better off.” And here we have some common ground. I want a president who spent 22 years in uniform defending our country. I want a president who isn’t afraid to use the word “victory” when he talks about the wars we are fighting. I want a president who’s ready on Day One. I want a president with the experience and the judgment and the wisdom to meet the next international crisis – or better yet to avoid it. I want John McCain as our commander-in-chief.

Taxes 101, for the Obama Kool – Aid Nation:
I hope that this helps you all with your future pOstings, here and elsewhere.

No, it doesn’t help…why don’t you and Rush Limbaugh and all the other comedians put on your court jester outfits and go dance and yelp and circle jerk yourselves somewhere else. Intelligent people are trying fix what has been screwed up for the past 8 years and we are trying to move this country forward.
Big corporations have been trying to hold the “export jobs” idea over everyone’s head for a long time now. This is nothing new. The Republicans themselves, going back to Reagan have had to deal with this crap.
While there may be advantages to taking jobs overseas, you don’t mention all the disadvantages. Poor workmanship, inferior materials, resulting in millions if not billions in recalls..that’s only the tip of the iceberg.
If you think that another 8 years of building the economy from the top down rather than the bottom up is a good idea, that you are blind to what has been happening in this country.
The numbers of people who are struggling to make everyday expenses, hardworking people….they far, far outnumber the fat cats who are shivering in their boots that they may have to hold on to their luxury SUV for one more year, instead of getting their annual trade in.
And finally, ponder this professor…your Bush/McCain war is costing us $10 billion monthly. I think it’s only fair that upper upper eschelons of income earners that put this administration in office for two terms, and are in the midst of running this economy into the ground….should foot the bill….
I hope this helps clear your mind of whatever McCain-like delusions you may have been harboring…
have a nice day.

Yeah, Obama’s socialist illuminati ideals are going to turn things around in this country. We won’t have a flag, we won’t be able to pray anywhere except in the privacy of our own homes and terrorists will be knocking down our door waiting to come and give us a surprise.

Captain,
The reason people are struggling now is because of high energy costs, which have tanked the economy. I guess that is exclusively the fault of the Bush Administration? I guess it is not the fault of any prior administration(s)? We had an energy crisis in the early 1970s and nothing has been done to resolve it…lots of talk, just like in this election, but no action, including during the Carter and Clinton/Lewinsky Administrations.
Captain, the reason that folks are suffering is because of the high cost of energy. In no small part, due to the cost of gasoline and diesel specifically. The reason they are important, is becuase they are used to transport products to, say grocery stores and to, say, transport corn to Mississippi to a poultry plant to grow chickens to send to a store. This results in higher cost of chicken which leaves less for the average Joe to spend on Px drugs.
Now, I know that you’d like to blame the price of gasoline on W, but the fact is that the reason the price of gasoline is high is because little if any new refining capacity has been built in the U.S. in a long time. I wonder how many Democrats and rabid environmentalists supported new refineries? What do you think Captain?
Now you might like to point out that real income levels have dropped from the Clinton administration (as does the Democract’s Nobel Prize Winning Economist Mr. Krugman), but how much of that is due to the rising fuel prices and the internet boom (remember the internet boom…$billions of investment flowed into the U.S. — no real profits came from it, but a lot of employment happened because of it — remember when the dot.coms became dot.gones and when that happened that capital evaporated, wasn’t available for bricks and mortar industrial investment during W’s term???)?
The way I see it, if President Clinton had spent more time on energy policy then he did playing with interns, we might have had additional refining capacity and might have had less inflation, and, since inflation erodes the ability to consume elsewhere in the economy, then it is also less likely that fewer job loss would have occured.
Now Captain, some more on taxes for you … this will help you understand why exporting jobs happens:
Obama Plan – according to the card carrying Kool-aid drinking:
EBIT: $80 << after reinvesting $20 in PPE in Ohio plant
Taxes: $40
Net Income: $40
Obama Plan – judged by those with common sense:
EBIT: $80 << after reinvesting $20 in PPE in Vietnam plant
Taxes: $40
Net Income: $40
? for you Captain. If you only get to keep 50% of the profit you'd earn, in the future, on the $20 capital investment you make in the U.S., but the same investment in Vietnam will allow you to keep 80% of the profits you generate from the same investment, would you invest in the U.S. or Vietnam??? Go ahead, shout out the answer.
The answer is Vietnam. This of course assumes plant utility and wage costs are the same between the U.S. and Vietnam, which they're not? The incentive to invest in Vietnam is even higher because of these factors. Throw in regulation and your theory flails out.
Also, Captain, businesses make capital investment decisions based on their believe that sufficient market demand exists to warrant expansion. If they don't believe the market demand will allow them to make the return they seek before taxes, they could care less what the taxes are to begin with. But when, they do determine expansion is warranted, their ability to gain access to the lowest cost funding is easier to secure with a stronger balance sheet (ie, more cash from less taxes on profits present and future) and, in the eyes of their potential creditors, stronger expected future cash flows…cash is required to pay the bondholders that fund expansion all across the globe Captain. The higher the taxes, the less cash flow.
Just to make sure you're all straight, Captain, one final point. You weren't thinking that they'd staff that Vietnam plant with Democrats from Ohio were you? No Captain, they staff it with Vietnamese.
I hope this helps you correct your vote and your future postings.

A comment from the great white north!
Senator Obama has run the most brilliant political campaign I’ve ever seen in my long life, if ever anyone had doubts about his ability to organize and motivate people, you need only to look at his campaign, and the people he has spurred on to bigger and better things.
If the pollsters and political pundits are correct, he is going to win by monumental proportions. A landslide would not do it justice.
Good to see America back on the right road!

Nope.. we blame it primarly on Phil Gramm and the enron loophole which allowed future traders to bypass regulations on energy futures when done in an electronic fashion.
Natural gas prices remained flat for over 15 years.. then, the year the enron loophole was enacted, it skyrocketed 320%.
More production of oil and gas would do no good. The time to switch to alternative fuels was back in the 70′s, yet big oil has continued it’s influx of money to prevent that. Bush is a big oil president and catered to them for the entire 8 years he was in office (look at his energy policy).
Sorry.. refineries are not the answer. More oil is not the answer. Those days will soon be behind us.

Concerned Idiot,
Check my new posts for you on the AFL-CIO blog….you’re a brain dead idiot.
Where do you read in my post that I suggest oil and only oil is our future? Where? I don’t see it as the long term future, I point it as the root cause of economy being in the condition it is now. As far as the near term, yes, if we don’t add refining capacity, then we’ll be stuck with high energy costs and its consequences over the near to medium term. I am not even talking about long-term energy policy. It is clear that alternative sources are needed. duh.
Enron traders caused our economic meltdown? Are you kidding me? How many tons of products do you reckon are transported millions of miles this year, by rail, to consumer markets using Natural Gas? 3 or 0? 0 is the answer. How many cubic feet of natural gas do you reckon was burned to power the tractor trailers that shipped millions of tons of corn to feedlots to raise pork and then transport that pork to meat packers and then on to super markets and transport you and I to the supermarkets?
W was a big oil president? So then was Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush, Clinton….because here’s some news for you concerned idiot….oil is still king after all these years.
Get real or go away.

Concerned Idiot,
I guess you also blame the current crisis, in no small part due to the mortgage backed derivative meltdown on the Bush Administration also?
Guess what bro? Mortgage backed derivatives sank Kidder Peabody in the mid 1990s ( Clinton Lewinsky Administration ). Why didn’t the democrats act then?
Have you seen the footage of Sen. Schumer and Rep. Frank rambling against regulation on fannie and freddie? Truth hurts. You know why the democracts were so for the unabated operation of fannie and freddie? Because it allowed for more funding for banks to issue loans to ‘victims’ that didn’t have the ability to make their mortgage payments, in the event of an unexpected setback ( like rising food prices ). The other thing that it allowed was to allow the banks that made those loans to sell them and it allowed fannie and freddie to package them with other loans and sell them….around and around….worked fine, until people stopped paying.
Make no mistake, the Dems. were the main obstacles to reigning in the GSEs.
This is fact not reported by Ms. Couric, Mr. Gibson or the left wing thinktanks you embrace.
I’ll conclude: Democrats fervently opposed reigning in fannie and freddie because they believed that they effectively created homeownership for those that wouldn’t have had access to the same without their existence, because their risk could not and would not be accepted by a bank directly unless it was able to sell of the loan immediately, which they were able to do, because fannie and freddie were ‘off the rez.’
thats right Concerned Idiot. I am an enrolled member of an American Indian Tribe….a typical blindly pro-democrat victim…only I got a little education.
Of course, don’t forget Sen. Osama’s role in advising Acorn, which, at the time, was protesting in local banks, bullying them, under auspices of the CRA to make home loans to ‘victims’ that couldn’t afford the terms of the loans they wanted the bank to make.

Moreover, Senator Obama has also advocated sending our U.S. military into Pakistan without the approval of the Pakistani government, invading the sovereign territory of a troubled partner in the war against terrorism. The military must expand to have troops in Afghanistan, Iraq and Pakistan. Another reason to call on retired General Colin L. Powell. If you are young and you have cast an early vote for Obama, be sure to have a bag packed and your traveling shoes on your feet. You will be reporting to the nearest military induction center for your assignment to go to basic training. It will make a man of you.

I wish quite often that we would put more emphasis on new ideas than old ideas. This is something that politicians themselves have been saying for years too.. “change” is the most-used operative word, is it not?
Well, finally Barack Obama has appeared and I actually feel uplifted. He sees new avenues for just about every issue facing the world, and he is able to synthesize them all together. Take for instance his understanding that reliance on oil and more drilling is a very overdrawn and simplistic method that has wasted loads of money and made jobs all the more scarce. America has become the greatest consumer nation from being the greatest producing nation in less than fifty years. Barack Obama understands that supporting new energy sources creates more jobs for Americans and returns us to a producer rather than a mere, arrogant consumer. I bet you are fat men blackjack and NeilPA with permanent frowns on your faces.
By the way, I am a medical student from a very Republican household. As one who is concerned about the health of Americans, I believe that Barack Obama’s plan will ensure healthcare for citizens to a much greater degree than John McCain’s plan; which in fact is ridiculous. I am in excellent health and I pay just about $5000 a year and still have a $1000 deductible. So think of all those individuals with pre-existing conditions; many of them will be left in the very very cold with McCain’s plan (which by the way is really not a reform at all, and still allows insurance companies to dictate everything, including who gets care and how much all treatments cost…horrible…this is why a single doctor’s visit costs so much to begin with!).
In addition, I think it needs to be said that my mother, a life-long conservative, is currently canvasing all over her community for Senator Obama and feels that this is the most important election in her 63 years.

Hey Professor….
big five oil companies: BP, Chevron, Conoco Phillips, ExxonMobil, and Shell. ExxonMobil, after record high profits in 2005 and 2006, smashed the record for highest profits ever made by a public U.S. company—previously held by Exxon—by posting a net profit of $40.6 billion in 2007.
In the four years leading up the Iraq War Exxon averaged a yearly net profit of $11.95 Billion. In the years since W, started the Iraq War, Exxon has averaged a yearly net profit of $32.6 Billion, an increase of 273% over the pre Iraq War average profit.
Year Exxon’s Profit in
Billions of Dollars
1999 7.9
2000 10.9
2001 17.5
2002 11.5
2003 21.5
2004 25.3
2005 36.1
2006 39.5
2007 40.6
Whether or not Exxon and the other Oil Companies lobbied Bush and Cheney for War in Iraq, it has certainly proved to be VERY profitable for them. War and instability in the Persian Gulf and the resulting speculation on the oil market has made the oil reserves the Oil Companies already owned much more valuable. Exxon and the Oil Companies didn’t need one drop of Iraqi oil to make a killing on the War in Iraq.
As for your exporting job theory….professor…please listen and READ CAREFULLY.
Greedy corporations are going to continue to try to export jobs no matter who the President is. To begin with, the sort of policies that have allowed corporate giants to move jobs overseas have been so poorly structured, heavily lobbied, and corrupted by the corporate giants. Right now they are making excessive profits. Don’t forget that it takes the working wages of many Chinese to even amount to that of one working American. The products coming from China are of dirt-poor wholesale prices but our corporate giants tag excessive profits to it and make it expensive here or a bit unreasonably.
We really need some strong regulations for our free market otherwise we will continue to see this trend where corporate giants are free to roam around the world and dragging the nation into excessive trade deficits with other nations like China. Because of our excessively poorly controlled markets, China now has us by the cameltoe with the trillions of dollars it holds in bonds. Our market needs a major overhaul.
Gramps McCain and Caribou Barbie up to the task….???
YOU BETCHA~!

Captain,
You are a very brilliant person, that I can tell. I’ve read what you write and have some questions / comments for you.
Do corporations –whether they are labelled by those in Berkely as Evil, Hip, Hi-Tech, Old, Tired, Greedy or Exxon– employ American workers, that they pay a salary or wage to?
Oil prices, to my understanding, are determined in the marketplace, as an intersection of supply and demand. I guess you wouldn’t blame the record oil profits, which happened because the price of a barrel of oil reached a record, on the fact that the demand for oil grew over the same years you list out while supply was the same or about the same? Data boy, please let me know what the growth rates were in the consumption of oil by India, China, the developing world. I guess it was the Bush and Clinton Administration’s fault for allowing India and China to prosper? If they hadn’t, they wouldn’t have used so much oil and it would have been cheaper for us and Exxon would have earned less and you’d be happy?
What, Captain, do you reckon, would a gallon of gas have cost in Atlanta, last month, when supply was scarce — because our domestic capacity is clearly insufficient and concentrated in hurrican alley — had the Clinton/Lewinsky administration promoted a new refinery and/or promoted compressed natural gas as a viable fuel? What do you think Exxons profits would have been over the past recent years? Higher or Lower…go ahead shout it out when you think you know the answer. Sorry, Cap, lower is the more likely answer.
Greedy corporations will expand when they believe sufficient market demand warrants expansion. The same is true of small businesses. They’ll create jobs wherever they expect to earn the highest return on their investment, on an after tax basis. If the U.S. is a viable investment venue for them, they’ll do it. If Vietnam offers a far greater expected return than Ohio, they’ll expand in Vietnam. If they’re a smaller enterprise, not ready for global expansion, and South Carolina appears to offer far greater return then San Francisco, where will they expand (reads: creates jobs)?
Raising taxes, or failing to lower them to be on par with other country’s corporate tax rates, makes domestic investment less likely.
so I can agree with this comment of yours: “Greedy corporations are going to continue to try to export jobs no matter who the President is” But, only when revised to read, as long as the corporate tax rates remain at their current levels. Of course they will as long as the welcome sign is your middle finger.

For reference we did have a energy plan. enacted under the Carter White House. It enacted a 55 mph speed limit saved 15% of oil consuption mandated fuel mileage standards . cut electric use . most repealed under Reagan .If this plan would have been followed we would not of had yhe spike of oil prices that I belive set up the crash. I also belive the transfer of private penions into 401 ks created an inflated stock market with the sudden influx of investors stocks rose to a artafical leval. As wages have steadly decreased a event of epic proption has happened . coused also by the fed. By keeping intrest rates artificaly low . Instead of buying cds at banks investers put more into the market to get a descent return. banks responded the only way they could cerit cards and risky loans were there return and intrest was far higher. I could see this begining whene the Canadian dollal value increased so rapidly. We import alot of oil nateral gas from canada the price begain to reflect the differnce. oil spiked the goverment gave low inflation numbers that were totaly false. also false employment numbers . also false personal income gains. All this was false The goverment chose to leave out certain things increased food and oil prices. The true figure for 95% of tax payers income had droped combined with inflation an average 30% in 8 years . As this played out defalts , bankruptcies exploded and here we are every one expects to be bailed out . our canidites wanting more tax cuts .Who is going to pay . No one just keep running up the tab. this economy of greed needs to stop . We can not fight a war bail everyone out and still have an econemy. The house of cards will fall who to blame everyone . I can see this is a certainty . As i move cash more into Canada. As i belive ther economy looks bright.
