The Note: Obama Grabs Control of Race for Close
ABC News’ Rick Klein reports in Thursday’s Note:
Should we care that . . .
Sarah Palin and Barack Obama are both pondering futures they don’t want to anticipate?
John McCain wants to make the race about another professor (even if he still has Bill Ayers on his mind)?
Plenty of Democratic senators and governors will say nice things about Obama on camera?
Joe Biden is suddenly boring?
Even Borat wants us not to vote (but not really — and not even for Bob Barr?)?
All of our assumptions just might be dealt atop a house of cards?
For the moment, toss those worries away: Five days out, Obama has wrested control of the race with his typical disciplined style — and someone’s going to have to scramble to take it from him.
Read the rest of The Note — and get all the latest on the 2008 election, Congress, the White House and the wide world of politics every day — from Rick Klein by bookmarking this link.
Consider his extraordinary Wednesday evening, framed by 30 minutes of primetime television where Obama did not mention the words “John McCain.” (Can you imagine McCain going on TV for 30 seconds at this stage of the race without mentioning Obama?)
It was gauzy, sad at times, and it was as unusual as a four-inning World Series clincher. It featured too many starry-eyed politicians, and too much cheesy music. It was also masterfully executed. And the fact that it could be done speaks to more than the wallet behind it.
Cognizant of what got him here, and mindful of what might get him there, Obama highlighted not just himself but the idea he represents. It delivers a message on a tactical level, with solutions for all the hot-button issues, yet mostly it works on an inspirational level — getting voters to believe in something bigger than themselves, which made Obama’s candidacy possible in the first place.
Wednesday may not be the night he clinched anything, but it may end up being the night he made the turn for home. By the time No. 42 finally turned it on for a would-be No. 44, this looked like Obama’s race, with McCain and the rest of us just living in it.
“Every single line during that 30 minutes was something that the campaign knows works and appeals to those undecided voters,” ABC’s George Stephanopoulos reports. “What you saw here was a highly competent, professional, virtuoso performance. The fact that they could go 28 minutes in and hit live to a campaign rally in Florida and right down to the final Obama Biden logo even showed a rising sun. One of the things the campaign knows is that the most optimistic presidential candidate always wins.”

This “undecided” voter has turned the page on the Repubs and is voting for Obama. The McCain campaign has been too negative and seems like they are reaching for topics to bring Obama down. All this negativity and let alone the Palin pick…how could you still support them!? The tv show was well produced and hit the target. Good job!

Prepare for more Hope and Change. From the Columbus Dispatch:
—A state agency has revealed that its checks of computer systems for potential information on “Joe the Plumber” were more extensive than it first acknowledged.
Helen Jones-Kelley, director of the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, disclosed today that computer inquiries on Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher were not restricted to a child-support system.
The agency also checked Wurzelbacher in its computer systems to determine whether he was receiving welfare assistance or owed unemployment compensation taxes, she wrote.
Jones-Kelley made the revelations in a letter to Ohio Senate President Bill M. Harris, R-Ashland, who demanded answers on why state officials checked out Wurzelbacher.
Harris called the multiple records checks “questionable” and said he awaits more answers. “It’s kind of like Big Brother is looking in your pocket,” he said.
If state employees run checks on every person listed in newspaper stories as buying a business, “it must take a lot of people a lot of time to run these checks,” he said. “Where do you draw the line?”—
Well obviously you focus those checks on people who embarrass The One and threaten his drive for power.

Only one LEADER in this election and that’s Barack Obama.
Obama is talking to the average American. He is uplifting. Obama offers hope. He has a plan and a new direction.
Obama knows that a government that puts the corporation before the public is wrong. It has been a complete failure. He wants to change it.
And what is McCain talking about? Some obscure article written six months ago in the LA Times about a guy who HE himself gave over $1,000,000 in American tax dollars.
McCain and Palin are pathetic hypocrites.

Obama did not sell Mighty Putty or The Juicer in his infomercial last night, but it would have made the production a lot more interesting.
The Associated Press watched it, and surprisingly, the 30-minute infomercial also failed to impress them:
“Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama was LESS THAN UPFRONT in his half-hour commercial Wednesday night about the costs of his programs and the crushing budget pressures he would face in office.
Obama’s assertion that “I’ve offered spending cuts above and beyond” the expense of his promises is accepted ONLY by his partisans. His vow to save money by “eliminating programs that don’t work” masks his FAILURE throughout the campaign to specify what those programs are – beyond the withdrawal of troops from Iraq.”
Calvin Woodward reports that Obama misled viewers on at least five key points in his 30-minute final argument:
–Health care costs – Obama claimed his plan would lower costs by $2500 per year per family, but it DOES NOT. In fact, Obama can’t point to any particular cost reductions. He plans to spend $50 billion over five years on modernization and chronic-disease prevention and presumes that this will lower costs in the future, but in the meantime it RAISES COSTS at least in the short run on everyone (the $50 billion doesn’t come out of thin air).
–The Pay-Go of his plans – NO, he hasn’t demonstrated that he’s found the revenue for his spending, despite his claims last night. Non-partisan analysts believe that his spending programs will ADD at least $428 billion to the DEFICIT in his first term, and that’s if you accept his non-specific pledge to cut spending in other areas.
–Tax cuts for working class families – Before the commercial aired, he had already begun BACKING AWAY from that idea because of the financial crisis, although Obama didn’t acknowledge it in the ad.
–The “right” to affordable health care – Obama DOES NOT guarantee coverage in any of his plans, at least not for adults.
–Getting out of Iraq – Obama noted that the US spends $10 billion a month in Iraq and talked again about “bringing that war to a close” — but he’s BACKED AWAY from his previous pledges to get out on a strict 16-month timetable, which is as fast as the remaining units can be properly withdrawn.

Judging by his campaign’s endgame, a McCain Presidency would be a TRAVESTY. The man has absolutely no instinct for leadership, and his one and only hope for victor lies in smearing his opponent enough to inch out an electoral college squeaker.
Socialism is only evil when it helps the middle class? Please! I’m more worried about McCain’s bankruptcy of economic policy and his inability to control his power-hungry running mate!

On a different note, while the American economy is verging on collapse, the financial markets have crashed, the housing maket is gone, growth is going backwards, and unemployment is on the rise…..

How many? Just 400,000–enough to warrant a multistate FBI investigation. Here’s their reply to McCain and the RNC for calling attention to it: A mournful Ken Burns homage that all but compares him to George Wallace. Which wouldn’t be the first time that grenade’s been tossed at him lately.
You know the election’s close when accusations of bigotry start coming this close together. It’s like contractions during pregnancy. Why didn’t The One use the old Malcolm X language to warn the electorate not to let McCain “hoodwink” or “bamboozle” them during his transmission from Mt. Olympus last night?
Remember, Obama paid ACORN $800,000 for a get out the vote effort. But he says he has nothing to do with them.

He explains each one away by sayng they’re a “respected scholar” or “a respected professor” or denies events at his home “didn’t happen” after he says they did. If there was just one person, I’d say no big deal. But this is not the case. It’s way, way too many associations. I would guess that you haven’t taken the time to look into the various ‘associations’ McCain has had in the past 26 years in Congress. They of course pale in comparison to any tenuous connections that the McCain camp have, with Hillarys help, dredged up for Obama. Which is typical, since most McCain supporters are not really voting for McCain, simply against Obama for whatever irrational or intolerant reason.
Posted by: Concerned American | October 30, 2008, 10:21 am 10:21 am
For once an Obama fanatic got it right: they donated the money to him! That is what we should be doing with the programs Obama wants to set up. I do not oppose the rich paying for the poor; I simply oppose forcing such a program. As an individual without multitudes of time and money, I elect to donate and give back to others. It is when we are all forced to give to someone else’s cause that the country loses its soul (atheists: ‘loses its soul’ is a figure of speach… it’s okay, don’t be offended).
And can people please take brains out of boxes? Just because I think Obama’s plan to rob people and give it to others, or encourage blindly trusting entirely in the government for an individual’s well-being (read “1984″) does not mean I support McCain. This bi-polar, false dichotomy that most of you perpetuate is that if you support ‘The One’ or your ‘War Hero,’ and your team… I mean candidate… gets insulted, then you immediately attack the other major candidate. Did you ever stop to think that both ‘major’ candidates are awful and self-aggrandizing?

Obama did not sell his sales pitch to anyone that knows the economics of running a government. Financial gurus called Obama‘s speech the worse financial deception ever broadcast. Leading economists, financial advisers, bankers, stockbrokers, and financial analysts from around the globe called Obama’s proposed governmental programs unreal and immature. The United States does not need Obama’s rhetoric to help heal its financial crisis.

You do seem to be confused.. McCain would like you to pay more taxes so he can give it to the wealthy. In fact, McCain believes that the working middle class must earn more than $150K a year, which is probably accurate on ‘main street’ where he lives, but not where most people live.

Does anyone really believe that the Democrats in Congress will allow Senator Obama to listen to the voice of the people? His election, and a vetor proof margin in Congress will only insure that Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid will be running our nation. Obviously, this will doubtless allow Senator Obama to cover himself if he veto’s anything (doubtful he will), and justify running again in the next cycle. Have we learned nothing from the Clinton and Bush asministrations? Allowing either party complete control of Congress and the White House is a prescription for disaster!
Posted by: Ed Weirdness | October 30, 2008, 10:29 am 10:29 am
After several weeks of John McCain’s campaign attacks on Barack Obama’s tax plan and idea of “spreading the wealth around”, the latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds voters trust McCain more than Obama on taxes, 47% to 45%.
Two weeks ago, Obama had a one point-advantage on the issue of taxes and a month ago, he had a three-point edge. The last time McCain had the advantage on this issue was September 14, just before the collapse of Lehman Brothers started the meltdown on Wall Street.
One month ago, Obama was up nine points on this crucial issue. McCain continues to outperform the generic Republican ticket by a longshot, and while Obama leads in six of ten top issues for Americans, Obama led in all 10 last month.
Now that McCain has a resonant message in Joe the Plumber’s plight, is finally matching Obama ad-for-ad in battlegrounds, and Biden has just LOWERED the Obama campaign’s “wealthy” mark to $150,000, it’s a mighty good time for things to be looking up for him.
More on the moving target that is the $250,000 threshold for the Obama campaign’s tax hikes. The Wall Street Journal reminds, “Just as Bill Clinton promised a ‘middle-class tax cut’ in 1992 only to RAISE TAXES on the middle class in 1993—including a first ever tax on Social Security benefits–Mr. Obama will quickly find that his tax-revenue math doesn’t add up. Add in the demands on Capitol Hill to spend more and to offset the Alternative Minimum Tax, and our bet is that even $150,000 would soon prove to be a moving tax target. Remember when the AMT was only supposed to hit 21 millionaires? Next year, without relief, it could hit 26 million taxpayers. Tax increases always hit the middle class because that’s where the real tax money is.”
When Obama/Pelosi/Reid get into budget trouble next year—they will fall back on the Democratic budget plan they passed earlier this year—which would increase taxes on everybody making over 42k per year. Yes, it was a non-binding resolution. But why go on record with a SYMBOLIC vote to raise taxes on most workers, unless you need it as a precedent to use later? “Rich” is whatever the Democrats need it to be to pay for their hundreds of billions in new Socialist proposals—right Barney Frank?

Apparently Warren Buffet doesn’t.. nor does former fed chairman Volker.. in fact, Greenspan also disapproves of McCains tax cuts. But of course, many would not consider them experts. Some of the more deluded would consider people like Lynn Forrester de Rothschild to be an ‘expert’ since she has thrown her backing behind McCain. The funny part is that even she said earlier this year:
“It’s going to be, What is in the best interest of all Americans? And I think if history is our guide, we’ve had stronger economies, more wealth creation, under Democratic presidents than we have under Republican presidents. So I don’t understand why all my capitalist friends aren’t Democrats.”
A lot of people went around making the same ‘sky is falling’ claims when Clinton took over regarding his ‘radical’ tax plan. The sky didn’t fall then either.

Might find this article interesting:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27445912/
A sampling of what voters heard in the ad, and what he didn’t tell them:
THE SPIN: “That’s why my health care plan includes improving information technology, requires coverage for preventive care and pre-existing conditions and lowers health care costs for the typical family by $2,500 a year.”
THE FACTS: His plan does not lower premiums by $2,500, or any set amount. Obama hopes that by spending $50 billion over five years on electronic medical records and by improving access to proven disease management programs, among other steps, consumers will end up saving money. He uses an optimistic analysis to suggest cost reductions in national health care spending could amount to the equivalent of $2,500 for a family of four. Many economists are skeptical those savings can be achieved, but even if they are, it’s not a certainty that every dollar would be passed on to consumers in the form of lower premiums.
___
THE SPIN: “I’ve offered spending cuts above and beyond their cost.”
THE FACTS: Independent analysts say both Obama and Republican John McCain would deepen the deficit. The nonpartisan Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget estimates Obama’s policy proposals would add a net $428 billion to the deficit over four years — and that analysis accepts the savings he claims from spending cuts. The nonpartisan Tax Policy Center, whose other findings have been quoted approvingly by the Obama campaign, says: “Both John McCain and Barack Obama have proposed tax plans that would substantially increase the national debt over the next 10 years.” The analysis goes on to say: “Neither candidate’s plan would significantly increase economic growth unless offset by spending cuts or tax increases that the campaigns have not specified.”
___
THE SPIN: “Here’s what I’ll do. Cut taxes for every working family making less than $200,000 a year. Give businesses a tax credit for every new employee that they hire right here in the U.S. over the next two years and eliminate tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas. Help homeowners who are making a good faith effort to pay their mortgages, by freezing foreclosures for 90 days. And just like after 9-11, we’ll provide low-cost loans to help small businesses pay their workers and keep their doors open. ”
THE FACTS: His proposals — the tax cuts, the low-cost loans, the $15 billion a year he promises for alternative energy, and more — cost money, and the country could be facing a record $1 trillion deficit next year. Indeed, Obama recently acknowledged — although not in his commercial — that: “The next president will have to scale back his agenda and some of his proposals.”
___
THE SPIN: “I also believe every American has a right to affordable health care.”
THE FACTS: That belief should not be confused with a guarantee of health coverage for all. He makes no such promise. Obama hinted as much in the ad when he said about the problem of the uninsured: “I want to start doing something about it.” He would mandate coverage for children but not adults. His program is aimed at making insurance more affordable by offering the choice of government-subsidized coverage similar to that in a plan for federal employees and other steps, including requiring larger employers to share costs of insuring workers.
___
THE SPIN: “We are currently spending $10 billion a month in Iraq, when they have a $79 billion surplus. It seems to me that if we’re going to be strong at home as well as strong abroad that we’ve got to look at bringing that war to a close.” These lines in the ad were taken from a debate with McCain.
THE FACTS: Obama was once and very often definitive about getting combat troops out in 16 months (At times during the primaries, he promised to do so within a year). More recently, without backing away explicitly from the 16-month withdrawal pledge, he has talked of the need for flexibility. In the primaries, it would have been a jarring departure for him to have said merely that “we’ve got to look at” ending the war. As for Iraq’s surplus, it’s true that Iraq could end up with a surplus that large, but that hasn’t happened yet.

The program last night make those who already support Obama VERY proud that they do…..it might have moved some undecideds who are tired of being beaten to a pulp with the “terrorist professor” drivel…..and it made the mccain supporters even madder as they see their hopes evaporating. But, it was very necessary for Obama to do, first as a pre-emptive strike against the possible Rove-swift boating, and two, because he needed to solidify in our minds that he is not wallowing in the bloody mud that the mccain/palin goons are in. It was smart and savvy, and once again, showed us that Obama is quite capable of lifting this country up from the divisive mire Bush has shoved us into.

I watched all of the Obama’s show last night and frankly it was impressive. He outlined his stances of the issues, talked about the problems we face (and their are many), and his solutions. And all through this was a tone of optimism and personal responsibility that was capped at the end by his live speech. Republicans, and especially those commenting on this board, should take note of this. Stop trying to spread fear and division. McCain’s immediate response was to attack this infomercial; again negative negative negative. Give me a reason to vote for McCain and not against someone and I may be willing to listen. Contribute to a solution; do not fingerpoint, do not divide, and do not promote closed minds. We can not afford such policies at a time when Americans all over the country should come together to fix the problems we now face.

–Getting out of Iraq – Obama noted that the US spends $10 billion a month in Iraq and talked again about “bringing that war to a close” — but he’s BACKED AWAY from his previous pledges to get out on a strict 16-month timetable, which is as fast as the remaining units can be properly withdrawn.

it is interesting how Obama is willing to put forth ideas and solutions for us to consider. It is also interesting how mccain and palin have put nothing forward except divisive slander and insults. They talk about Obama 24/7 and have nothing to offer but attack and insinuation. Had mccain made better choices, and had he been able to talk issues and solutions, this whole election might have been different at this point. But he did not, and the Obama bashers on these blogs follow the same pattern: all hate and accusations (without proof), but NO POSITIVE DISCUSSION OF THEIR OWN CANDIDATE…IN FACT, MOST NEVER EVEN MENTION MCCAIN….as if he and palin are irrelevant and no one can conjure up any convincing rationale for electing that pair. Just hate and animosity toward Obama….and that “my friends” is whay Obama is winning and mccain is evaporating.

OF COURSE Obama doesn’t need to “be negative” — he’s the presumptive frontrunner. All he has to do is shutup and not screw up. How much Kool-Aid have you people consumed to think this is some sort of big credit to his character? Besides; his MO has always been to sit back and let others do the dirty work for him. He doesn’t have to be negative about the American people and culture — he let’s his racist, angry religious mentor of 20+ years handle that. He doesn’t have to be negative about the American system — he lets his militant wife take care of that dirty work. It’s easy for someone to speak of nothing but “hope and change” and get away with it, when he has no record to go after. This guy has been groomed by the party for the last several years to ascend to this very position, and part of that strategy was keeping him away from anything really divisive that could be used to contradict his inspiring message, timed perfectly to cash in on the American public’s discontentment with the outgoing administration.
Oh yes, they hit with this message of “hope and change”, and they hit hard. But the way I see it, this country isn’t really in need of a lot of “change” — it just needs someone willing to stand up and buck the trend to get this already sound system working correctly again. And frankly, I don’t see how this guy should be so revered, when he’s voted the highest percentage along his party lines, has NO real history of substantive policy reform, and stakes his campaign on a whole lot of flowery visions for the future (when what this country needs most right now is someone willing to step in and crack some heads.) Nope. The only solid thing I see in Barack Obama to base my opinions on, is a questionable history full of shady characters, and a VERY short political career that stinks of party grooming.
How is it that a guy that would probably fail out of a background exam for the CIA or FBI due to his past associations, is now sitting on the cusp of the presidency? Have we deluded ourselves THAT MUCH as a country?

Update America:
Billionaire Warren Buffet said that he favors the estate tax and that it should be higher to tax the wealthy on the amount of their estates. The estate tax currently sits at 45% (and will increase to 55% without reform), which means that 45 out of every 100 dollars someone leave to an heir goes to the government. This is a tax on money that was already taxed at least once in the lifetime of the person and probably more than once, in all reality. The government taxes the money when it is earned, taxes any interest on investment and then gets nearly half of it when a person dies. This is why estate planners make a lot of money, to figure ways to pass wealth without paying taxes AGAIN.
Buffet though, does not live by this philosophy of taxing estates. He has ensured that his estate will be given away so that he avoids any taxes. His fortune is well over 40 billion dollars so his heirs would have to pay around 20 billion in taxes when he dies. This would help with the burden he says that the middle class bears but it is not what is good for him. He is giving a lot of his money to five foundations, most notably the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. There will be no taxes when he gives this so he avoided paying an estate tax. He has set up one billion dollar foundations for each of his children and they are to do philanthropic work with the money, no doubt after they draw hefty management fees from the foundations. This will avoid estate taxes and allow him to pass a great deal of money to his children.
Buffet is another do as I say liberal who thinks it is perfectly acceptable for the government to take money it did not earn from the pockets of people who received it from a loved one. He feels that it is OK so long as he (or technically, his estate) is not the one paying the taxes. Buffet cries about the plight of the middle class but he could make 1000 people millionaires for every billion dollars he has. If he is so concerned about people why does he not take 20 billion and make 20,000 people millionaires?
That would probably do more good than giving money to foundations that already have billions of dollars. But Buffet would rather see the wealthy taxed to death and since he has figured out how to avoid the estate tax he really does not care.
Of course, he assumes that other rich people are not as bright as he and therefore cannot avoid paying estate taxes.
Tax schemes created by the government lead people to think of creative ways to avoid paying those very taxes and the richer people are, the more creative they become. Besides, if Buffet is really concerned about the government, he can donate money to the treasury and they will be happy to take it.
I wonder why, if he really cares, he didn’t send his money there instead?

In a country that has well exceeded 200 million people, it’s unrealistic to think that you can have it one way – YOUR WAY. Sure it might seem like a football game with my side against yours, but its not. If you’re a right-wing conservative, eventually the left-wing liberals will flip you off the rocking chair while you’re snoozing. Same goes for you far-lefties.
Nobody should get to drive the boat forever no matter how hard they try. One day its Reagan’s world and then, without looking, H.W. Bush falls to Clinton, who then, without using his brain, falls to a chubby intern and the GOP is back in control. And so it goes.
The only people who get to keep their super-power are the justices. Supreme Court in specific. So now there are two looking at retirement. If we get McCain as POTUS, he’ll apoint like-minded thinkers and we’ll be stuck with a righty court that will direct things that affects YOU (thats right Mr. and Mrs. America – YOU) in all sorts of conservative ways. So if you’re a man, woman, hold a job or breath air, expect pain.
If for no other reason than for love of country, mom and apple pie, you MUST elect Obama just to keep the Supreme Court balanced. Even if he royally screws up and only lasts one term before the other team get the ball back, you must keep the playing field level. It is imperative that the ideal of the founding fathers are not sunk because we let the boat lean so far to one side or the other that water comes in and drowns us all.
Even if you don’t like him, vote for Obama simply for the needed checks and balances.

I have noticed how the Republicans won’t even consider watching an Obama commercial or rally, but Democrats are always fair about giving McCain a look, just to see if he has anything of substance to say. I’ve even listened to Palin (despite her screechy voice) at her rallies as she fires up the crowed with her hateful speech. I feel this helps me be well-informed when I made my choice. The Rethugs won’t even give Obama a listen. They wouldn’t want to have their minds changed for the better.

AP FACT CHECK: Obama Ad Avoids Budget Realities
========================================

Obama gets all the free coverage in these blogs he could ever want. His name appears MILLIONS of times in the blogs—written by MILLIONS of people, everyday. He has become THE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE—-and you have helped that to happen. Because YOU blog about him all day. the people who despise Obama have also elevated him to THE candidate status….because OBAMA has become the center of your universe. You spend all your time trying to find vicious things to post aabout OBAMA. You argue all day and night about OBAMA. You write his name over and over and you obsess over every thing OBAMA does…..what about that other guy…the invisible and boring JOHN MCCAIN???? There is a saying that hate can bind you just as tightly to someone as love does….the Obama haters on here are completely and totally stuck on Obama!!! And, that tells America that apparently OBAMA IS THE ONLY CANDIDATE WORTHY OF DISCUSSION OR EMOTION…..hmmmmmmmm…….

It amazes me how the media and Obama followers are praising this feel good ‘make me look good’ muti-million dollar advertisement packed with ‘half’ truths and cheesy scripted stories, but slammed and tried to disgrace John McCain/Sarah Palin for the $150,000 (which was overestimated) that the RNC spent for presenting her in a good way…
Also, they call any attempt that McCain/Palin make to get voters to inspect Obamas record and the people he has aligned himself with as negative campaigning and praise Obama for the same type of comments, because they do not see through his eloguence/karisma…
Vote for McCain/Palin…

Buffet is another do as I say liberal who thinks it is perfectly acceptable for the government to take money it did not earn from the pockets of people who received it from a loved one. He feels that it is OK so long as he (or technically, his estate) is not the one paying the taxes.

What you bash Buffet for? The man is an investor, who makes money. You cannot fault a man who is known for making money to make money.

If you want a Supreme Court which tramples the Constitution in the name of Redistributive Justice, then elect a Democrat. In the Kelo decision, the Court gave government power to seize private property from one individual and give it to another individual–purely because it would increase tax revenue–rather than the “common good.”
All the Liberal Justices voted for that decision, and all the Conservatives voted against it. Remember that when President nominates more Marxists like Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

A Federal Communications Commission investigation of on-air military analysts is providing a glimpse of what Democrats and an Obama administration will do to critics once they capture Washington.
The FCC has sent letters to some of the nation’s most prominent military analysts — some of them pro-President Bush and pro-war — suggesting they may have broken the law when they appeared on television stations to comment on and explain the war on terrorism.
The FCC investigation raises the question of whether a Democrat-controlled Congress and White House next year will investigate — and perhaps criminalize — all sorts of actions taken by the Bush administration. Obama is leading in all presidential polls, while Democrats are set to greatly increase their hold on the House and Senate.
The FCC letters came at the BEHEST OF TWO HOUSE DEMOCRATS, who say the analysts parroted on air the private briefings they received at the Pentagon. This may have broken the law, the lawmakers said.
The probe is sending chills through the ranks of military commentators, some of them decorated war heroes who share their expertise with millions of lay viewers. They see it as one in a series of moves the Left is making to intimidate and shut up its critics.
“We are seeing the dawn of a new era of the current Democratic leadership trying to muzzle free speech and the First Amendment,” retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Tom McInerney, a Fox News analyst, told HUMAN EVENTS. “It may be the most invasive intrusion that we have seen in our history. There will be more of these tactics to follow.”
Said retired Army Maj. Gen. Paul Vallely, one of Fox’s first defense analysts, “It’s an affront to freedom of speech. As retired officers, we’re private citizens and can say anything we want under the First Amendment. The whole thing was to explain to the American people what was going on in war and analyzing it.”
Democrats have more in store to try to muzzle conservatives. They talk of reactivating the so-called Fairness Doctrine in which federal government bureaucrats monitor radio and TV programs and rule on their fairness. Conservatives say the real goal is to kill right-leaning talk radio.

Re: Sallie,
McCain has a history of loving his country and valuing our nation over any special interest. He also has a 20+ year record as a reformer in DC. He has worked across the asile time and time again to pass legslation putting a stop to corruption and protecting the tax dollars of American workers.
Obama has none of this. It is not mud-slinging to point out questionable associations or actions of Obama. What about the fact that Barak has already lied directly to all of us and no one seems to care? He said multiple times and even put in writing that he would use public financing for his campaign. Then, as soon as he is ‘The Man’, he declared that he would fund his campaign with private donations. Ths is a lie and nothing more! For that reason alone he should not be elected president. He can not make good on one simple pledge. How can he be trusted as commander in cheif?
What is the cost of becoming president?
More than $1,000,000,000 it seems…

Is this just one “Crisis” Biden promised that the election of a neophyte to the Presidency would bring about? Will Obama meet with Ahmadinejad or Ali Khamanai to beg them not to attack and to apologize for America? Do we really want a rookie as C in C when Russia, Iran, Venezuela, China, and North Korea are increasing their military threats against us?
—Iran stepped up its rhetoric against the US today by threatening to use suicide-bomber attacks against America. Ari Larijani, the former nuclear negotiator, referred to the 13-year-old boy sent by the mullahs to disable an Iraqi tank in the 1980s as a model for the fight against the Americans. Larijani promised an “unexpected response”:
Referring to the US army’s attacks in Pakistan and Syria, Larijani said they would not be answered with diplomatic protests.
“The US method and conduct, expressed by this aggression, will only be stopped by a clear-cut and unexpected response, whose grounds were set by the martyr Hussein Fahmida,” Larijani said during a parliamentary session on Wednesday.
Fahmida was 13 when he detonated an explosive device he carried on him, destroying an Iraqi tank during the Iran-Iraq War in the 1980s.
“America should be aware not to put its huge body on top of the suicide bombers’ explosive devices,” Larijani said.—

Update America:
By Larry Former Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volker has endorsed Senator Barack Obama for president, and economist Larry Kudlow, a disciplined, free market conservative of the first order, is floored by the news:
This is an unbelievable story. Former Fed Chairman Paul Volcker—Mr. Hard Money, anti-deficit, sound financial himself—has endorsed Senator Obama for President.
This is a big deal.
Once upon a time, many years ago, I was a Volcker speechwriter at the New York Fed. He’s a great American. He’s a classic conservative. He’s a man of fiscal and monetary rectitude. While he was originally appointed Fed Chair by Jimmy Carter, Volcker ultimately teamed up with Ronald Reagan to put the kibosh on runaway inflation. He would not have made this endorsement on a whim. Believe me. He never gets involved in these kinds of political decisions.
Is Paul Volcker the new Robert Rubin? Is it possible that Mr. Volcker is somehow tutoring Obama? Is it possible that Obama is more financially conservative than originally believed?
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Update America Break:
This could mean that Obama is really a conservative and NOT a liberal.
There is no other reason to have Volker as Obama’s mentor.

I remember hearing all these same arguments in 1992 about how, if we elect “him”, the economy will collapse, taxes will go up, we’d become a socialist state, etc, etc.
Oddly, we had the strongest economy in decades. The DOW tripled. 20 million jobs were created. There was actually a government surplus.
Similarly, I remember being told that if we just cut taxes, mostly on the rich, in 2001, the economy will grow and grow and the wealth would trickle down.
That doesn’t seem to have happened.
Why anyone would believe a Republican is beyond me. They seem to come up wrong about everything. On WMD’s, on tax policy, on economics, on politicizing the Justice Department, on abuse of wiretapping…

Today on my way to lunch I passed a homeless guy with a sign that read “Vote Obama,
I need the money”. I laughed. Once in the restaurant my server had on an “Obama 08″ tie, again I laughed. Just imagine the coincidence. When the bill came I decided not to tip the server and explained to him that I was exploring the Obama redistribution of wealth concept. He stood there in disbelief while I told him that I was going to redistribute his tip to someone who I deemed more in need,
the homeless guy outside. The server angrily stormed from my sight.
I went outside, gave the homeless guy $10 and told him to thank the server inside as I’ve
decided he could use the money more. The homeless guy was grateful.
At the end of my rather unscientific redistribution experiment I realized the homeless guy
was grateful for the money he did not earn, but the waiter was pretty angry that I gave
away the money he did earn even though the actual recipient deserved money more.
I guess redistribution of wealth is an easier thing to swallow in concept than in practical
application.
Truth be told this never happen to me… And I hope it never happens to you!
Found this in my email today thought I would share

Too funny.. what have you been griping about thus far.. modest tax increase on the wealthy? How about energy credits. How about the estimated $140 billion a year savings to companies providing health insurance for their employees.. and how it will inject more insured patients (47% of currently uninsured compared to 7% at peak under McCain) into the system. Lets not forget the economic stimulus his tax plan generates in the form of increased spending.
Compared to McCain, Obama will have a much easier time balancing the budget.. McCains plans would cost roughly twice what Obamas are.. and yet, people still cannot seem to grasp that concept.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27311863/
And if McCain actually implements his ‘high risk’ insurance pool, tack on another trillion to those numbers.

You are absolutely right. 0bama has Zero plans on building nuclear power plants. He only dances around, to pander some people to make them feel good, by saying he would “consider” nuclear plants, then, immediately pointed out accidents, wastes, scares.

How pleasant would our life be without public libraries, police, fire departments, the military, social security, the freeway system, the military, rural electricity, free education, running water, the internet, and John McCain’s personal health insurance for 72 years? (First as the son of an Admiral, then in the armed forces, now as a senator.)
All of these are examples of our current, socialist wealth redistribution. And I don’t have to make up a fictional story to prove my point.

A lot of people refuse to believe the video showing Sen Obama speaking with JTP — he took FIVE MINUTES and answered the question (you know, the one we all thought was an honest question that turned out not to be). Eventually, JTP acknowledged that he would in fact be better off with Sen Obama’s tax plan but, hey, if you can become a star when the other party annoits you, what difference does the truth make?
If all anyone ever hears is about how Sen Obama will “raise taxes”, the only people they have been listening to are those in Sen McCain’s campaign. DO YOUR HOMEWORK and READ each plan! You will see that the tax plan changes apply to those who make over $250k AFTER business expenses, not GROSS. READ THE PLAN.
WHY do people vote against their own self interests?

Honest, sincere, moving, positive, inspiring, elegant, intelligent, confidant, united, sharp, and real are some words that describe Obama’s TV presentation.
Any negative comments that the Republicans and their supporters express is just about jealousy, regret, undermining, discrediting, sabotage, and envy.
There is no comparison to Obama, who is a decent man that has integrity and passionately supports and wants to work for the people. When was the last time we’ve had any candidate that even comes close to this?
And to a man, McCain, that is all about his wealth and greed, his buddies’ wealth and greed, and ego.
These two candidates represent totally different ideals.

Update America:
Investors Flee From ‘Change’ Obama Hypes
By JACK KEMP AND PETER FERRARA | Posted Monday, October 27, 2008 4:30 PM PT
Are Barack Obama’s proposed tax increases adversely affecting our financial markets? We say yes, unambiguously. The senator has done a masterful job distracting attention from his tax increases with his $500-per-worker tax credit supposedly for 95% of Americans.
Obama has also set forth more than half a dozen additional refundable income tax credits targeted to low- and moderate-income workers for child care, education, housing, welfare, retirement, health care and other social purposes.
These tax credits are devised to phase-out based on income, which will ultimately increase marginal income tax rates for middle-class workers. In other words, as you earn more, you suffer a penalty in the phase-out of these credits, which has the exact effect of a marginal tax rate increase. That harms, rather than improves, the economy.
With the bottom 40% of income earners not paying any federal income taxes, such tax credits would not reduce any tax liability for these workers. Instead, since they’re refundable, they would involve new checks from the federal government.
These are not tax cuts as Obama is promising. They are new government spending programs buried in the tax code and estimated to cost $1.3 trillion over 10 years.
Obama argues that while these workers do not pay income taxes, they do pay payroll taxes. True, but his planned credits do not involve cuts in payroll taxes. They are refundable income tax credits designed to redistribute income and “spread the wealth.”
Meantime, Obama has proposed effective tax increases of 20% or more in the two top income-tax rates, phasing out the personal exemptions and all itemized deductions for top earners, as well as raising their tax rates.
He wants a 33% increase in the tax rates on capital gains and dividends, an increase of 16% to 32% in the top payroll tax rate, reinstatement of the death tax with a 45% top rate, and a new payroll tax on employers estimated at 7% to help finance his health insurance plan. He’s also contending for higher tariffs under his protectionist policies.
Finally, he would increase corporate taxes by 25%, though American businesses already face the second-highest marginal tax rates in the industrialized world, thus directly harming manufacturing and job creation while weakening demand for the dollar.
Obama argues disingenuously that his tax increases would only affect higher-income workers and “corporate fat cats.” But it is precisely these top marginal tax rates that control incentives for savings, investment, entrepreneurship, business expansion, jobs and economic growth. While he wants to tax the rich, the burden will fall on the poor and the middle class.
In their new book, “The End of Prosperity,” Art Laffer, Steve Moore and Peter Tanous argue that the threat of this tax tsunami is already destabilizing our financial markets and causing capital flight from America.
They write, “Hot capital is escaping over the borders out of the United States and flowing into China, India, Europe, and even Japan. . . Starting in late 2007, foreigners started pulling their money out of the United States, and Americans started investing more abroad. Global investors are losing confidence in the U.S.”
The American economy was in shambles when Reagan entered office in 1981. Inflation had soared by 25% over the prior two years, unemployment was heading toward 10%, the prime interest rate hit 21%, poverty was on a 33% upswing and real family income had decreased by almost 10% due to the stagflation of the late 1970s.
Reagan cut the top income-tax rate from 70% to 50%, adopted an additional 25% across-the-board rate cut and sliced capital gains taxes in half. The 1986 tax reform left us with just two tax rates of 15% and 28%. Reagan slashed spending growth, lowered tariffs, reduced regulatory burdens and promoted anti-inflation monetary policies.
The result, the authors explain, was actually a 25-year, noninflationary economic boom, with only two brief, mild recessions in 1990 and 2001. “We call this period, 1982-2007, the 25-year boom — the greatest period of wealth creation in the history of the planet,” they write. “Adjusting for inflation, more wealth was created in America in the 25-year boom than in the previous 200 years.”
By 1989, the economy had grown by almost one-third, the equivalent of adding the entire economy of West Germany to our U.S. economy. In 1984 alone, real economic growth boomed by 6.8%, the highest in 50 years. Nearly 20 million new jobs were created in the 1980s, increasing U.S. civilian employment by almost 20%. Unemployment fell to 5.3% by 1989.
Spectacularly, inflation was slashed to 3.2% by 1983. The prime rate fell to 6.25% by 1992, even though opponents had argued that Reagan’s tax cuts would increase interest rates. Family income reversed its decline, poverty reversed its rise and tax revenues actually doubled.
This is the “Change We Need” today.

A few basics here -
When businesses are taxed on their profits, they are motivated to spend more within their company, either by growth or jobs. Then the money becomes an expense, instead of profit, and they aren’t taxed on it. They benefit, because the company “keeps” the money internally, and they aren’t hit with an excessive tax.
If you eliminate that tax, and cut the taxes at the highest level, the company is motivated to dole out large bonuses to it’s leaders, because it’s no longer being taxed on either side.
Why is this so hard to grasp?

Obama’s Easy Credit
By Tobin Harshaw
http://opinionator.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/10/29/obamas-easy-credit/
“Sen. Barack Obama’s presidential campaign is allowing donors to use largely untraceable prepaid credit cards that could potentially be used to evade limits on how much an individual is legally allowed to give or to mask a contributor’s identity, campaign officials confirmed,” reports the Washington Post’s Matthew Mosk. “Faced with a huge influx of donations over the Internet, the campaign has also chosen not to use basic security measures to prevent potentially illegal or anonymous contributions from flowing into its accounts, aides acknowledged. Instead, the campaign is scrutinizing its books for improper donations after the money has been deposited.”
Between the prepaid cards and The Times’s earlier disclosure of people donating to the Democratic candidate under fictitious names, conservatives are talking up campaign finance reform.
“Fully $100 million of the record-breaking $150 million that the Obama campaign collected in September alone came over the internet via credit card donations,” writes Bill Dyer at Hugh Hewitt’s blog. “The Obama campaign has deliberately turned off the anti-fraud mechanisms available for internet credit card transactions. They have no clue how many millions or tens of millions of dollars have been donated to them in violation of federal election law. And now it turns out that the Obama campaign cheerfully takes even contributions from untraceable pre-paid credit cards, a/k/a ‘the pseudo-credit cards you use when you want to conceal illegal activity.’ ”
He continues:
The whole “back-end screening” farce is insulting to anyone with a second-grade education. The Obama campaign cannot possibly have any objective measurement to even roughly estimate how many mistakes and how many episodes of deliberate fraud they’re catching versus how many they’re simply missing, even if one is naive enough to presume their good-faith best efforts.
Moreover, everything the Obama campaign has yet said about this entire issue utterly ignores the key questions: (1) Who ordered the anti-fraud protections turned off? And (2) why hasn’t Barack Obama already fired every such person, and exposed them for criminal prosecution as aiders and abettors of national and international campaign contribution fraud?
Rick Hasen of Election Law Blog thinks the issue will linger after Tuesday’s voting: “I suspect that after this election we are likely to see the F.E.C. (or Congress) limit the kinds of credit and debit cards that campaigns may accept for online donations.”
Mark Steyn, writing at the Corner, disagrees:
On the grubby little racket of his online credit card fraud, Senator Obama merely has to run out the clock now. If it’s not exposed before Tuesday, no one is going to have any appetite for investigating it once he’s won. So he must be relieved that this off-message headline — “Obama Accepting Untraceable Donations” — only gets as far as Page 2 of The Washington Post. (There is an element of art to these calculations: The Obamatron editors in the media want to be able to cover themselves by saying they raised the story, but the trick is to do so at a time and place that prevents it going anywhere before November 4th.) ….
So two-thirds of Obama’s record haul derives from a website that intentionally disabled all the default security checks that prevent basic fraud like fake addresses and no-name matches ….Here’s the bottom line: Two-thirds of the record-breaking haul Obama raised for the final stretch of the campaign comes from a racket set up to facilitate fake names, phony addresses and untraceable cards.

The point is – get past the fake alarm bells ON BOTH SIDES and focus on the premise of their plans for our country. One thing we cannot know is whether EITHER of them will be successful in their plans but I will go with the person who has promoted the most well thought-out agenda with the most qualified individuals advising him. Not every successful leader has a track record at the point of their success. A true LEADER inspires those around him or her to be the best they can possibly be, and brings out the best in a call to action.

Senator Obama is merely the titutlar head for the DNC, nothing else. Anyone who thinks that Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid won’t be the puppet maters for an Obama administration is delusional. Indeed, this is the prefect agenda. Democrats place themselves in a position to control Congress and the courts for decades, and Senator Obama get to say he didn’t lie or fail to produce on his promises. No one can possibly hold Barack accountable for signing everything Congress send him, after all it’s the voters mandate. Likewise, he can’t be held accountable for Congress overriding his (doubtful they’ll be any) veto’s! Have we learned nothing from the Clinton and Bush administrations? Allowing one party to run rough shod over the rights and iterests of America’s Citizens is dangerously misguided. Perhaps it’s time for another revolution?

Sure he is. Under McCain, I would pay more taxes than I would under Obama. At the same time, Under McCain, the wealthy would pay less taxes than under Obama.
Wealth redistribution from the middle class to the wealthy, just like Bush has been doing for the last 8 years. Hasn’t exactly worked, which is not surprising, since trickle down taxation has never worked in our history. But that doesn’t stop the GOP from wanting to continue trying it over and over again expecting different results.

“So two-thirds of Obama’s record haul derives from a website that intentionally disabled all the default security checks that prevent basic fraud like fake addresses and no-name matches ….Here’s the bottom line: Two-thirds of the record-breaking haul Obama raised for the final stretch of the campaign comes from a racket set up to facilitate fake names, phony addresses and untraceable cards”
So a “potential” cheater, fraud, criminal is who alot want as the head of our country? How sad these times are in our American history when we ignore the FACTS given to us from the beginning and still hang onto the “dumb” attitude.

On taxpayer money going to the wealthy…
Actually, the entire Iraq war is a transfer of massive taxpayer dollars to large, now profitable companies.
Halliburton was on the ropes before the wars.
Also, the 700 billion “rescue” package is being released in bits and pieces, with the “compensation” figures redacted or blacked out.

Perhaps if our government wasn’t so corrupt they would spend our tax money more wisely… instead of just taking more from one group and giving it to another like that will fix everything. Are you people missing something?? Like the fact that both of these guys voted to bail out a bunch of crooks that stole money from/screwed the American people?

They are both surrounded by corrupt career politicians, and are that very thing themselves. They have both voted again and again for earmarks everywhere. They both voted to bail out crooks. Not a single mention of Denver.. but I’ll let that one slide. Ok, here is what he said in his acceptance speech:

Granted, he said “nuclear power” and not “nuclear-energy”, but semantics aside, I’m sure you would consider those two terms to mean the same thing. Of course, you don’t go into great detail in speeches either.. that would be self defeating. Apparently, that is what you are looking for though. Sorry I can’t be of assistance in that regard.

That’s easy. The national debt went from under 6 trillion to over 10 trillion. The revenue went “up” by some paper shuffling. None of the Iraq war has been in any of the budgets. It’s all “emergency spending” which doesn’t reflect on the budget.

SC SUperman: I thank you for your service. I have lost a loved one in a war, and I support those who serve.
HOWEVER, while you did indeed fight for our freedoms the current wars are predicated on different issues and for different reasons. We Americans are in no danger of engaging in socialism or communism, mostly for the very reasons you cite. When we remember to do so, we support each other and our very speacial way of life. What seems to happen every four years, though, is lies and smears and campagins of fear in order to coerce a certain segment of the population into beleiving that that their way is the only way to be an American.
You fought for more than that kind of thinking, didn’t you?
After 9/11, we were truly all united. It angers ME to think that talk of tax code changes, universal access to health insurance coverage, and diplomacy are somehow seen as Anti-American. THESE ARE THE THINGS THAT AFFECT ALL OF US IN AMERICA RIGHT NOW, and the solutions have nothing to do with communism or socialism — we really are better than that, smarter than that, and most importantly – more patriotic than you give us credit.
With all due respect (refer to my opening line).

If you begin to treat things non-existing as reality, you start to wonder if it is real or fantasy.
If you have no common “zero”, you have no comparison. A good analogy follows:
(1) In physics, the zero of the electrostatic energy is two charged particles at infinite separation.
(2) I can equally define that zero as two charges at 1 angstrom separation, which is 334 kcal/mol in the first definition.
According to you, under 0bama, it is zero, but it is 334 kcal/mol in taxes under McCain, because under 0bama the zero is set in (2).
Do you understand, Harvard smart?

SC SUPERMAN, by voting – whoever we vote for – we are honoring the sacrifice of our soldiers. We are not becoming a socialist country, we are and will continue to be a mix of capitalism and socialism. The military itself is a perfect example of socialism – people contributing for the betterment of all. Police, education, social security, medicare are all examples of socialism. the debate isn’t either/or, it’s how much of each.
We love this country, and the real debate is whether or not we should INVEST in things, and which things we should invest in. I’m for investing in the military, in education, in creating security for our elderly, and building a healthy society.
On the capitalist side, I’ve seen abuse when there’s no oversight, so we need just enough oversight to reign in excess, but not so much as to stifle growth.
Those are the real debates, and the people screaming buzzwords are distractions.

Well, McCain thinks it’s not enough, and would like the low and middle class pay more in taxes so they can pay less. Neglecting the fact that his plan would be worse for ALL americans due to his continued deficit spending without any way of generating additional revenue. I suppose you figure the less fortunate Americans should bear a greater burden of paying taxes.. the ones who can least afford it, and the ones who drive the economic engine of this country. Not a very well thought out strategy.

0bama can give feeling-good speeches, and it makes me feel good too, and don’t get me wrong.
However, the Democratic Party Platform is the policy carved in stone that the undoubtedly democratic party controlled congress will pursue in the next four years. That policy, which is also 0bama’s, coming out His Convention. And that policy clearly tells the nation that nuclear energy is not what he will pursue, at least in the next 4 years.
This policy will NOT end future WARS in the Middle East.

I know you guys dont like facts but here some for you
In fact, according to data from the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 1981, Ronald Reagan’s first year in office, the U.S. average unemployment rate stood at 7.6 percent. During Reagan’s presidency, it reached a high of 9.7 percent, and had declined to a level of 5.5 percent when Reagan left office. The rate from when Reagan entered office through his last year declined by 2.1 points, far less than the eight-point drop for which Brooks credited Reagan.

Concerned American,
One last thought before I sign off for the day.
You admission that there is zero mentioning of nuclear energy in 0bama’s Democratic Party Platform is a truth-telling reality of this man. It tells us how deceptive 0bama really is.
He gives feeling-good speeches, only speeches, that he would consider nuclear energy but immediately pointing out its danger and waste scare. In reality, his Policy Platform shows that he has absolutely no intention, ZERO, NADA, to pursue the use of nuclear energy under his government.
This is a fatal flaw for the long-term security of the country. This is simply too short-sighted, as a result of a lack of understanding of the origin of War and War and War. It’s all for the oil, stupid.

Yes, he raised taxes. He also trimmed government, balanced the budget, had a budget surplus and led the strongest growing economy in history. I’m not going to claim that raising taxes CAUSED that, but it’s pretty clear that if we keep borrowing money someone somewhere is going to pay for it.
Google how much we’re paying in interest alone on the national debt. That’s more of your tax money going to the wealthy.

Certainly the media has the power to sway us, but with the far right and far left both with their followings (and this is allowed, with a nation that espouses free speech), I have a hard time believing that “THE MEDIA” is 99% for Obama, and that therefore we’re being duped.
This presidential election has surely shed light on the deep division of beliefs within our country and I find it disconcerting that some dear friends of mine, some of whom I’ve known for years – with whom I’ve never discussed politics before – disagree with me so vehemently about our candidates. I personally have never paid so this attention to presidential candidates, nor researched each of them and their character and policies so extensively, and to such a deep level before in my life. Mercy!
But having done so, I have concluded that Barack Obama is the best choice for the future of this country (my sentiments very much mirror those that General Colin Powell expressed in detail on Meet the Press two weeks ago). I hope that Senator Obama is elected next Tuesday. If that happens, I very much hope that those who are dead set against him can accept that the majority have elected him, and that we can still come together to have civil political discourse, and “disagree without being disagreeable”. I believe (having watched the campaigns of both candidates) that Senator Obama espouses this philosophy much better than Senator McCain, but should McCain win, although I would personally be disappointed, I would still wish the same for our country. That’s probably asking alot, given how divided we are, but I still hold out that hope for America.

“Remind me again what Platforn clinton ran on again lowering middle class taxes was it not what de he do ummm raise them thats right now I remember”

Regan?
Simultaneously with the enactment of the tax cuts in 1981 the Federal Reserve Board, with the full support of the Reagan Administration, altered monetary policy so as to bring inflation under control. The Federal Reserve’s actions brought inflation down faster and further than was anticipated at the time, and one consequence was that the economy fell into a deep recession in 1982. Another consequence of the collapse in inflation was that federal spending levels, which had been predicated on a higher level of expected inflation, were suddenly much higher in inflation-adjusted terms. The combination of the tax cuts, the recession, and the one-time increase in inflation-adjusted federal spending produced historically high budget deficits.
Not my analysis, that of the US Treasury department.

So far, as of 12:40, the pro-Obama comments outnumber 64/57 Obama.(Excluding the unclear comments)
ABC News is viewed as neutral (unlike Fox or CNN perceptions) so this is a good a poll as it gets for a news comment site.

chad, I appreciate your patriotism, but your conclusions are a bit simplistic for me.
Most of Obama’s rhetoric is speaking of the greatness of America, and its potential. But I’m sure you’ll dismiss that.
As to the Nazi Germany comparison, I believe he was referring to wiretapping, imprisonment without trials, torture and other unpleasant side effects of our war on terror.
None of which we should be doing, frankly.

– IT WAS AT 13% at one point when carter was in office I know the statistics must be wrong from the DEPT OF LABOR –
It was 7.5% when Carter took office, and 7.2% when he left office. It never rose above 7.8% while he was in office.
Under Regan, he hit record unemployment rates of over 10% (10.8% by the end of 1982)

Obama made a killer ad yesterday, and the definitive closing argument today. Obama pointed out that the Repub criticism of the Dems “Spread the Wealth” is trying to call selfishness a virtue.
This is the bottom-line, and the argument Obama should have made months ago: socialists, Marxists and far left liberals are MORALLY SUPERIOR to the Repubs and anyone believing in capitalism. Repubs are selfish by definition.
Conservatives believe that selfishness is human nature, and that our Constitution and capitalist economic system “harnesses” people’s self-interest (that is, selfishness) and directs it to the public good. If a capitalist does well, all those he employs, buys from, gives charitiably to, etc. “do well.”
Of course, Conservatives believe that people can be self-less and compassionate — but that doing so is “a personal choice” and cannot be “dictated” by the state.
What malarkey!
We are our brothers’ keepers. The state must FORCE people to not be selfish, and FORCE the morality of spreading the wealth.
Obama proves that he is a transformational force.

Um…we were talking about Clinton and Reagan. Why is it so hard to stay on subject?
Under current circumstances, I would assume he was a liar if he claimed he would balance the budget. Especially without MASSIVELY raising taxes. We have a deficit nearing 1 trillion dollars, two wars, and we’re over 10 trillion in debt.
The only way to dig out of that, ironically, is by investing. Spending on things that will pay off. Like the internet. Educating our young. Invest now, reap the dividends in the future.

The years immediately following the 1993 tax increase also saw another trend continue, which was to once again shift the balance of the hybrid income tax-consumption tax toward the consumption tax. The movement in this case was entirely on the individual side in the form of a proliferation of tax vehicles to promote purpose-specific saving. For example, Medical Savings Accounts were enacted to facilitate saving for medical expenses. An Education IRA and the Section 529 Qualified Tuition Program was enacted to help taxpayers pay for future education expenses. In addition, a new form of saving vehicle was enacted, called the Roth IRA, which differed from other retirement savings vehicles like the traditional IRA and employer-based 401(k) plans in that contributions were made in after-tax dollars and distributions were tax free.
Despite the higher tax rates, other economic fundamentals such as low inflation and low interest rates, an improved international picture with the collapse of the Soviet Union, and the advent of a qualitatively and quantitatively new information technologies led to a strong economic performance throughout the 1990s. This, in turn, led to an extraordinary increase in the aggregate tax burden, with Federal taxes as a share of GDP reaching a postwar high of 20.8 percent in 2000.

There are so many undecided voters out there who will be voting on Tuesday. The Polls are inaccurate due to this fact.
Many of these undecided voters will make up htere mind inside the polling booth.
I beleive when it comes down to it, the majority of the undecided voters will vote McCain.
Why….because voting for Obama is a risk. He will either be the greatest President ever…or a complete and utter failure.
Voting for McCain is a safer bet and the lesser of two evils for sure. Not that I think McCain is evil. He certainly is more qualified.

Next Wednesday morning, you will see TV footage from Obama’s coronation event in Chicago’s Grant Park showing hysterical, weeping, cavorting, fighting, swearing Obama Kool-Aid kids who are angry and confused that The Marxist One and his merry band of America-haters, terrorists, racists and felons lost the election.
Beginning next week, when Americans talk about colossal failures they will mention the movies Ishtar and Heaven’s Gate — and they will mention Obama.
Obama is a bad, bad news for America

I see you all have not lost your fight :
GOOD! Because we have a lot to do. You! (the American people) are going to have to take back control of your elected government at every level, and set your government back on the right path of service to you, and the greater good of the World.
Barack Obama and the democrats are your best hope of doing that now. Tell your family, friends, and everyone you know to support them as best they can. Because the Bush McCain vote fraud, vote cheating, vote buying, vote manipulation machine is already hard at work to cheat you again. And we all know what a disaster that has been the past 8 years of Bush McCain.
Barack Obama and the democrats will need all the power you can give them at every level of government (Federal, State, County, and local City elected governments). Obama and the democrats will have an enormous mess to fix for the American people, and the rest of the World. A mess caused by the corrupt Bush McCain administration.
You see, starting back in 2000, and before 911, it was mostly the Republican governors, Republican legislatures, and county elected Republican officials that conspired with the corrupt Bush McCain administration to raise college, and university tuitions by the fastest, and highest rate increases in American history. Some state tuitions went up by as much as a WHOPPING! 30% in one year.
The reason the Bush McCain administration did this was to force struggling working class kids into the military to pay for the sudden jump in tuition. Which was forced on them by the corrupt Bush McCain administration, and their corrupt Republican Governors, and republican controlled state legislatures.
See, Bush McCain had plans to get us into all these immoral, foolish, criminal, and unnecessary wars from the start. So they could use these wars to seize power, and later to get reelected. But, for their evil plan to work they needed more volunteer soldiers struggling to pay for an education whose blood they could spill to help them seize more power. Remember Bush McCain’s “MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!” theatrics.
The exploitation, and lost lives of these finest Americans is despicable, disgusting, immoral, corrupt and criminal. And it makes me SICK, and ANGRY!
You will have to vote for Obama, and the democrats in overwhelming numbers to overcome the Bush McCain vote fraud machine. Vote early if you can. Then help your fellow Americans cast their votes now, and on through election day. Vote for Obama, and the democrats like your life, and the lives of your loved ones depends on it. Because it does. You will not survive 4 more years of “Let Them Eat Cake” Bush McCain, and their republican allies.
Just look at the mess we have now.
You can fix this mess with your votes for Obama, and the democrats. And REMEMBER, no matter which of us may stumble or fall, the rest of you must continue to surge forward for Barack Obama, and the democrats, and for your-selves most of all. The children, and the World are counting on us.
It’s in your hands now. And I know you will get it done.
God bless all of you.

That is an excellent point and I hope prophetic. Be certain when Obama loses, there will be crys of foul play.

Hmm. I’m not sure chad is rational. Ease off the caps, there, son.
Well, it’s been fun, but I need to go off and earn a living and pay my taxes to this great country that offers so much opportunity. Oh, it hurts to pay, but I look at my education and the roads and the advantages we have that other countries don’t, and I look at my sons and consider their future, and I’m willing to pay into a system that I, in truth, have benefited from.
(Cue patriotic music in the background.)
Everyone vote!

I urge every American citizen, no matter what side of the fence you stand on .. no matter what belief you have to watch on you tube “Obsession” It a 10 pt series and of course its Free. You can also purchase a copy I think for $12 or buy a pay per view for about $5.
We walk around in our daily lives without actually appreciating it enough. The media does not inform us as we should be informed. All 10 parts of “Obsession” takes about 45 mins to view. Get your spouses and friends to watch with you. I promise you will come away with a better understanding of what we are up against and why.
As for how our line of defense in Alaska did not help us on 9/11. That was NOT the point I was making but I am sure you can figure that one out yourself as I do not believe it was designed for the 9/11 type of attack. However I do believe it was designed to protect us from Russia and other forms of attack! So with that being said, you sir cannot state it is useless! We also cannot discount the fact we have had no terror attacks such as 9/11 since that time so something HAS worked whether you like Bush or not! I don’t think anyone here .. dem or rep can argue this point. As for needing a better plan, I do agree but I do not agree that “talking” with radicals that have a religious mission and are promised “ever after wealth” by killing Christians is the way either! We MUST have weapons and we MUST keep up with new inventions of defense! I support MORE DEFENSE!!! I support our mission to date in Iraq! I also support our soldiers coming home from a long hard battle and living in the same Freedoms they have given to us with thier sacrifices!!! Throughout history .. wars have been created over religious beliefs! Christians do not attack over their religious beliefs .. they attack in “defense”! So sir, if you are telling me that our building of weapons is not as important as sitting down with our “radical enemies” to discuss a common denominator .. I DO NOT Agree!
Obama says he wants to do this and has flip flopped so much on our defense .. who knows what he is going to do? First he says he is for then he says he against .. then goes back to for! Most of the time he is just PRESENT! eg; chicken button!

– He cleary stated in the debate he could not answer when or if he could balance the budget and with he increased spending plan how could it come out any other way. –
Not predicting when a balanced budget can be obtained does not equate to increased spending.. although both candidates propose spending increases.. one does not offer any way to pay for those increases, and one does. According to the Tax Policy Center analysis, McCains spending plan would require $10.9 trillion over 10 years, while Obama would require $5.4 over the same period. If you add in McCains ‘high rish’ insurance pool funding, tack on another $1 trillion.
Combine that with the fact that Obamas plans would stimulate the economy faster and to a greater degree, Obama has a far greater chance of working towards a balanced budget than McCain, by a long shot.

I would hardly call 130 votes out of 4000 “most of the time”.. perhaps you would like to explain how McCain has missed more votes in this session of Congress than any other Senator (some 64% of them)?
However, you support our unprovoked attack in Iraq, so your stance is already unfounded. You do realize that little farce has left us defenseless in the event of a real war, you know, one that would actually threaten our freedoms? Our military is over stretched and now we are basically broke. Remind me to thank GWB for that next time I see him…
Posted by: Concerned American | October 30, 2008, 1:34 pm 1:34 pm
I think all of us, at some point in our lives, have come upon what hate “is”, and it’s not that hard to recognize it. I of course do not have an issue with people expressing their ‘opinions’ in a public blog. I just wonder sometimes why and how people come to some of their “opinions”. Taking glee in a person’s downfall, name-calling, and (for some) making up things to support those actions are not really opinions, they are an M.O., and I don’t understand why it happens.

As far as sitting and listening to sermons goes, I was born and raised in a Church that required my presence by zipcode (in other words, my parents couldn’t take me across town to the “other” parish). Anyway, I didn’t listen to the priest because he wasn’t the point of the service — the point was worship.
I wouldn’t go to the morality discussion, considering Sen McCain’s hisotry.

It was Ronald Reagan in 1983 who imposed the first ever tax on social security. Lets see here: Nixon – watergate, Raegan – Iran contra affair, G.W. Bush Jr. – Irag war under false pretenses!!!! Anyone see anything in common here? Its funny how if you give a tax break to the wealthy…its not spreading the wealth, just a trickle down affect (ha! ha!). You give a tax break to middle income then its a welfare check! I had a customer tell me the other day if Barak gets in he will take her 401K. I had to then ask her how she likes wall street taking it now!!!! If Sarah can go around and twist words, tell lies, and stay uniformed now….what a great president she will be later (naught). ***OUR US CONGRESS CONTINUES TO DENY MIDDLE CLASS AND WORKING POOR AMERICANS PROPER LEGAL REPRESENTATION EVEN THOUGH WRONGFUL EXECUTIONS & FALSE INCARCERATIONS CONTINUE ALL ACROSS AMERICA ???
*** 700 BILLION $$$ AVAILABLE FOR US BAILOUT, & NO $$$ FOR ALL POORER AMERICANS PROPER LEGAL REPRESENTATION ? SENATOR OBAMA, THIS JUDICIAL INJUSTICE HAS BECOME AN AMERICAN ART FORM, AND NO LONGER CAN BE KEPT HIDDEN OR SECRET FROM THE AMERICAN PEOPLE EVEN IF CERTAIN (501c3) U$ RELIGIOU$ LEADER$ HAVE BEEN $ILENCED ??
LETS ALL HOPE OUR MEDIA FRIENDS CONTINUE TO SHOW AN INTEREST IN REPORTING ON THIS AMERICAN HORROR FACING THESE (TENS OF THOUSANDS) FORGOTTEN AND TRAPPED POORER AMERICANS, AND HOW THIS PRESIDENTIAL CONTENDER HANDLES THIS VERY SERIOUS ISSUE FACING AMERICA’S LATINO AND BLACK AMERICAN COMMUNITIES ????
WITH 80% OF THE BLACK AMERICAN VOTERS SAYING THEY SUPPORT SENATOR OBAMA IN THIS PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION, IT IS ONLY FAIR FOR EVERYONE TO KNOW PRIOR BEING ELECTED OUR NEXT PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES HOW THIS DEMOCRATIC SENATOR TRULY FEELS ABOUT THIS AMERICAN JUDICIAL INJUSTICE CONTINUING TO INFLICT GRAVE HARM ON THE BLACK & LATINO AMERICAN FAMILIES AND THEIR COMMUNITIES NATIONWIDE ??????
*** WHEN GOD’S FACE BECAME VERY RED *** THE US SUPREME COURT GAVE ENEMY COMBATANTS FEDERAL APPEAL HC RIGHTS LAWYERS AND PROPER ACCESS TO US FEDERAL COURTS,AND POORER AMERICANS (MANY EVEN ON DEATH ROW) ARE DENIED PROPER FEDERAL APPEAL LEGAL REPRESENTATION TO OUR US FEDERAL COURTS OF APPEAL, AND ROTTING IN AMERICAN PRISONS NATIONWIDE ?????????
**** INNOCENT AMERICANS ARE DENIED REAL HC RIGHTS WITH THEIR FEDERAL APPEALS ! THE AMERICAN PEOPLE ARE $LOWLY FINDING OUT HOW EA$Y IT I$ FOR MIDDLE CLA$$ AND WORKING POOR AMERICAN$ TO FALL VICTIM TO OUR U$ MONETARY JUDICIAL $Y$TEM.
****WHEN THE US INNOCENT WERE ABANDONED BY THE GUILTY **** The prison experts have reported that there are 100,000 innocent Americans currently being falsely imprisoned along with the 2,300,000 total US prison population nationwide.
***WHERE ARE AMERICA’S RELIGIOUS LEADERS ??????? Since our US Congress has never afforded poor prison inmates federal appeal legal counsel for their federal retrials, they have effectively closed the doors on these tens of thousands of innocent citizens ever being capable of possibly exonerating themselves to regain their freedom through being granted new retrials.
This same exact unjust situation was happening in our Southern States when poor and mostly uneducated Black Americans were being falsely imprisoned for endless decades without the needed educational skills to properly submit their own written federal trial appeals.
This devious and deceptive judicial process of making our poor and innocent prison inmates formulate and write their own federal appeal legal cases for possible retrials on their state criminal cases,is still in effect today even though everyone in our US judicial system knows that without proper legal representation, these tens of thousands of innocent prison inmates will be denied their rightful opportunities of ever being granted new trials from our federal appeal judges!!
Sadly, the true US *legal* Federal Appeal situation that occurs when any of our uneducated American prison inmates are forced to attempt to submit their own written Federal Appeals (from our prisons nationwide) without the assistance of proper legal counsel, is that they all are in reality being denied their legitimate rights for Habeas Corpus with our US FEDERAL COURTS and will win any future Supreme Court Case concerning this injustice!
For our judicial system and our US Congressional Leaders Of The Free World to continue to pretend that this is a real and fair opportunity for our American Middle Class and Working Poor Citizens, only delays the very needed future change of Federal Financing of all these Federal appeals becoming a normal formula of Our American judicial system.
It was not so very long ago that Public Defenders became a Reality in this country.Prior that legal reality taking place, their were also some who thought giving anyone charged with a crime a free lawyer was a waste of taxpayers $$.
This FACADE and HORROR of our Federal Appeal proce$$ is not worthy of the Greatest Country In The World! ***GREAT SOCIETIES THAT DO NOT PROTECT EVEN THEIR INNOCENT, BECOME THE GUILTY !
A MUST READ ABOUT AMERICAN INJUSTICE:
1) YAHOO 2) GOOGLE
(MANNY GONZALES THE KID THAT EVERYONE FORGOT IN THE CA PRISON SYSTEM.) ** A JUDICIAL RIDE OF ONES LIFE !
***Someone please tell our US Congress that the GED degree that Manny Gonzales acquired in prison is not a LAW DEGREE !!!!!!
