The Note: McCain Changes Mortgage Plan

ABC News’ Teddy Davis reports in Thursday’s Note:

John McCain was hoping that the mortgage buy-up plan that he offered during Tuesday’s debate could help separate him from President Bush while also differentiating himself from Barack Obama. It now appears, however, that he may have given the Obama campaign a new opening.

Politico’s Mike Allen reports that, from Tuesday to Wednesday, McCain changed his mortgage buy-up plan, making it "more generous to financial institutions and more costly for taxpayers."

The McCain campaign told reporters in a Tuesday issue paper that lenders "must recognize the loss that they’ve already suffered."

But when McCain posted the plan to his campaign Web site Wednesday, that sentence was missing.

"It’s another example of John McCain’s erratic response to the economic crisis," Obama communications directions director Dan Pfeiffer tells ABC News.

Pfeiffer advises that Obama will respond to McCain’s mortgage plan on the campaign trail, and the campaign is launching a new television ad.

"Who wins?" asks the narrator in Obama’s new ad.

"The same lenders that caused the crisis in the first place. Putting bad actors ahead of taxpayers? We can’t afford more of the same."

Watch it HERE.

A McCain campaign official sought to downplay the change in the Arizona senator’s plan.

"That language was mistakenly included in the initial draft and it’s been corrected. It doesn’t reflect the intentions of the initiative, which necessitated the correction and the removal of the sentence," a McCain official told Politico. "A simple mistake."

It’s quite a flip-flop to go from “swallowing hard” to vote for the bailout to introducing another bailout plan that would place even more risks squarely on taxpayers. And isn’t this “big government spending”?

McCain/Palin’s low blow politics is an embarrassment to every democratic world citizen. Mean spirited republicans name calling, is just ugly. They are just not smart enough to articulate a positive message for the country. According to a statistical analysis 2/3′s of Obama’s ads are positive while McCain’s are 100% negative.

Better stop reporting on McCain. He has no clue.
It’s flip-flopping and zig-zagging and nothing else.
It’s sickening.

McCain and his campaign do not think things out. They react like gamblers. In this case the house wins again. This is not what our country needs.
How can he say, I’m going to do a mortgage bailout and a spending freeze in the same debate. It’s called pandering.

Ha…what a fake you are McCain!!!

Yesterday, McCain refered to us a “fellow prisoners.” WHile some may say he just made a little mistake, I think it actually tells us more about how he views America than he wants us to know. Under McCain/Palin, it would be an extension of Bush/Cheney whose goal was to make us all walk lockstep with their policies, regardless of how those policies trampled the Constitution. As for McCain’s proposal to buy failing mortgages, what about those of us who have kept up our payments? Will he buy our mortgages at their face value and give us better rates? I would hate to do everything right and have someone like McCain cause me to loose everything because I was able to pay my bills, or raise my taxes to unbelieveable levels to pay for this short-sighted politically motivated program.

Posted by: algwriter | October 9, 2008, 9:58 am 9:58 am

Right on!! I could see that what McSame recommended would be another colossal error because he would be rewarding the same people who are getting off scott-free with the bailout, then buying the same bad mortgages at A HIGH PRICE, RE-SELLING them back at A LOW PRICE, and then again bailing them out with our hard-earned money. Meantime, these same folks would have made a huge profit from selling them high and re-purchasing them back low, then REWARDED AGAIN THROUGH ANOTHER BAILOUT!! Say no to McShame for his shameful actions.

Posted by: Karen | October 9, 2008, 9:59 am 9:59 am

“A simple mistake”? When you release a plan to save people, to keep them in their homes…you make sure that it free of mistakes!!
I’m tired of being expected to give McCain leeway on stuff like this. “Oh I’m just a regular guy who makes all sorts of mistakes.” Well, this one is going to vote for someone who takes time to proof read their plans before going public with them. Yeah…I’ll take THAT ONE anyday over McCain.

Well, well, well, didn’t the great communicator Reagan say: “Government is the Problem”.
How is this McCain idea going over with all those “conservatives” whose whole life has been based on making government smaller.
It must be that Palinocchio and her pea-brained miscreant followers are so focused on hate and bigotry that they are not paying attention to what their candidate is saying.
It is not government BUT this ADM. and the GOP… THAT IS THE PROBLEM.
INTELLIGENT citizens will never allow four more years of the same ineptitude
and gut-feeling, impulsive style of decision-making that we have seen. Look where that has gotten us…becoming a third-world country.
The bread lines are getting longer, the soup kitchens fuller and Food pantries are running out… and we should want more of the same? God forbid.

This seemed silly the second he said it. You don’t mention something like this for the first time at a debate. If he wanted to roll out a plan of this magnitude, then he should have given a speech, which would have lasted longer than a two minute response. He also should have taken questions from the press and provided some documentation of how the plan would work. This was simply intended to steel Obama thunder, unfortunately for McCain, Obama doesn’t think the plan is good.
McCain keeps gambling to win. It isn’t working.
Also, didn’t he say in the same debate he would also freeze spending. DOH!

Asking people to fill air in tire to save gas(Which I call Obama’s Holistic approach to save gas and money) and Obama not being pro-active for giving any economic stimulus plan(last time Hillary did it), I feel McCain plan is better and should be supported.

Just earlier today abcnews.com gave Obama credit for mortgage-buy-up plan–saying Obama came up with it two weeks ago–but now that McCain is using it, Obama is making arguments against it. Obama is the king of flip-floppers. I’m sure the Obama people have told abcnews to rectify this!
So now, abcnews.com, here, is insinuating that McCain flip-flopped (which isn’t actually true if you read the above), to show fairness toward Obama!

The way McCain deals with crisis is “reacting”, not “thinking”. This is how Bush led the country to mud – the Iraq war.
McCain shows no leadership when he chose Palin as his running mate. We simply can not offer this kind of leadership – roll the dice and see what happen – for the next 4 years.

I always like mccain, and I thought he got a dirty deal from GWB. It tells you all you need to know about his late life conversion, though, to hire the people who did that to him to run his campaign. He let himself be beaten down. Maybe he thinks he’ll redeem himself once in office-I can’t take that chance, however.

He was involved in the Keating Five.McCain and Charles Keating with four other senator in 1989 cause the Lincoln Savings and Loan Bank.It cost federal government $2 billion, also 23,000 bondholders were defrauded and many elderly investors lost their life savings. Now there talk that in 1995, McCain sent birthday regards, and regrets for not attending to Joseph Joe Bananas Bonano, the head of the New York Bonano crime family, who had retired to Arizona. Who is McCain?

The only way Palin is getting in to the Oval Office is with a tour pass. Keep your head in the sand, when you come up for air take a look at the electoral map. You are about to see the biggest Democratic landslide since 1964.
Republicans got their wish in 2004 and re-elected Bush who has trashed this country in 8 years. As President Obama said “Bush dug us a hole & McCain carried the shovel”.
Thanks again for the Palin pick, it’s the gift that keeps on giving to the Democrats.

You are close but this is McCain’s problem:
senile
Pronunciation: \ˈsē-ˌnī(-ə)l also ˈse-\
Function: adjective
Etymology: Latin senilis, from sen-, senex old, old man
Date: 1661
1: of, relating to, exhibiting, or characteristic of old age ; especially : exhibiting a loss of cognitive abilities (as memory) associated with old age
2: approaching the end of a geological cycle of erosion

I dont like McCain’s new bailout plan for banks. The idea he is so proud of will have US taxpayers making up the difference between the current value of homes and the original mortgage assessment and giving the difference to the banker with no plan to get it back. It is a flawed plan. Millions of homeowners are making payments on such homes. Do I have to give them my tax dollars too? If not, why not? And what if the home mortgage is held in Iceland. Why help Icelandic mortgage holders with US tax dollars. Another shoot-from the-hip, ill-considered idea from John. Of course it is not really McCain’s idea. But he claims it is.

Simply put, McCain is wrong, furthermore he is only making friends with that low percentage of mentally ill people who still support George W. Bush.
My opionion is that John McCain is a coward, and a screw up. Not a hero, or maverick. The forrestal, being shot down, and being locked up for years, have left him a phsycologically unfit person to run for president. He has very poor judgement on most any topic of government.

What was it worth? What is Iraq worth versus one our best? Its a pig sty, was a pig sty and will seek a lowest common denominator. Democracy in the Middle East … what a joke. Soon as we pull out there will be genocide between “arab brethern”, but oh, I forgot too … Iranians are special, still call themselves “PERSIANS”, not crumby Arabs. Also, tell me about those terriorists … they are the same bast__ds that existed in NAZI germany. Just a bunch of thugs and murderers. Also don’t forget to vote against those who voted in favor of the bailout giveaway..(There were better ways to sove the problem than throw taxpayer money at it…see Market Oracle)…

“It was hard not to see how pleased the Vietnamese were to have captured an admiral’s son,” he writes, “and I knew that my father’s identity was directly related to my survival.” But during the course of his medical treatment, McCain followed through on his offer of military information. Only two weeks after his capture, the North Vietnamese press issued a report — picked up by The New York Times — in which McCain was quoted as saying that the war was “moving to the advantage of North Vietnam and the United States appears to be isolated.” He also provided the name of his ship, the number of raids he had flown, his squadron number and the target of his final raid.

I think it’s evident that Mccain glosses over things just because he is desperate to win. His running mate, his wife, his entire campaign, are throwing everything but the kitchen sink in desperation. Anyone that wants to understand the philosophy behind Mccain, need only to look at the statements of his top economic advisor, Phil Gramm. There are very relevant quotes posted at… http://mccainpalinworld.com/
These quotes illustrate the flawed engine behind Mccain’s erratic actions. Make no mistake, he voted with Bush 91% of the time in order to get the GOP nod. He picked a grossly uneducated person as his running mate. He wanted to stop the first debate, in order to play politics in front of the people. His plans are flawed because his philosophies are flawed. Mccain is a relic, and a step backwards for our country.

But go ahead, bury your head in the sand but be sure and peek out on Nov 4 so I can laugh at it when the dems take control.

Steve_NJ look what I found
Although McCain stresses in his memoir that he married Cindy three months after divorcing Carol, he was still legally married to his first wife when he and Cindy were issued a marriage license from the state of Arizona. The divorce was finalized on April 2nd, 1980. McCain’s second marriage — rung in at the Arizona Biltmore with Gary Hart as a groomsman — was consummated only six weeks later, on May 17th.

Why be scared of the economy, we should fear these people.

If there’s a tragic aspect to the campaign it has to be in the fall of McCain’s stature and the disappoinment many of us feel about the man we respected and sympathised with. His Hail-Mary ploy in depositing Palin in the arena of sober, and knowledgeable public servants simply reflects desperation and pathetically poor judgement. The irony of it is that the only ones she appeals to are those who are hard-wired to the GOP anyway. Almost anyone else….particularly the independants are shaking their heads in disbelief at the descent of McCain into the slime of gutter politics. It’s time for him to retire with whatever dignity he has left.

Agenda, and Govt leaders using the words “morals, family values and etc”
Should not happen at all. Its what the GOP says all the time, and yet never does……

“A simple mistake” would be mispeaking about something, but throwing out such a hastily prepared campaign proposal, dealing with such a critical issue, without proofreading?
That’s just a lack of attention to detail.
And it reinforces the now entrenched notion that McCain isn’t steady, is erratic, etc.

It is the fault of both sides. This crap has been going on in Washington for years.
We need change in Washington, we need someone who will go in and stop the madness there and McCain has proven time and time again he is not that person.
My vote is Obama. Now with that being said I hope he stops this $300 Billion extra Bailout for AIG, tell they do what he said should be done. Fire the CEOs who are in charge and pay back the people of the United States they used for some bogus retreat. Then place a government accountant in their firm to make sure our money is being spent the way it is suppose to. I am SICK OF BEING USED BY OUR GOVERNMENT LIKE WE ARE THEIR BANKS. I am sick of seeing American families living in cars, vans and tent cities, here in the United States, while we pay for a f**king war we should not be in. The economic power has too long been in the hands of big business, when it has always been the middle class that has driven it. It is the middle class that has the purchasing power that makes it all work. It is time for that bottom up philosophy to be put in place. Sorry uber rich instead of a 100′s of millions you’ll have to just get by on 10′s of millions and the rest of use will be able to make better lives for ourselves and this boom/bust cycle can settle down a bit.

MSNBC’s First Read says that McCain was trying to say “my fellow Americans” yesterday and it came out “my fellow prisoners.”
During the debate, he referenced “my entire military career” when he meant his time in the Senate. I saw that one – he also looked confused for a long moment after saying it, before correcting himself.
Now we’re seeing reports about McCain wandering around stages, confused about how to leave them. Again at the last debate, we saw McCain look in discomfort after it was over, and then do that awkward meander between the moderator and the camera he was facing.
Is something going on?

“John has made a pact with the devil,” says Lincoln Chafee, the former GOP senator, who has been appalled at his one-time colleague’s readiness to sacrifice principle for power. Chafee and McCain were the only Republicans to vote against the Bush tax cuts. They locked arms in opposition to drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. And they worked together in the “Gang of 14,” which blocked some of Bush’s worst judges from the federal bench.
“On all three — sadly, sadly, sadly — McCain has flip-flopped,” Chafee says. And forget all the “Country First” sloganeering, he adds. “McCain is putting himself first. He’s putting himself first in blinking neon lights.”

I think people are seeing through this Republican con-game. They call Obama a ‘socialist’ on one hand and then propose a huge social plan to buy up bad real-estate to save their rich friends, on the other. These sarcastic and snide anti-Obama rallies that Sarah Six-Pack is having only reinforce the fact that they have nothing else to run on. They have nothing to offer but four more years of painful Bush policies. Since they have no campaign message of their own they can only run as the anti-Obama platform. -And Obama’s plans are looking pretty appealing to most Americans right now.

I suppose it is our fault that our energy prices, food prices, and gas prices have gone up so high. I am so sorry to disappoint you Mr. Steve but all of those issues are completely out of our control. Sure there are some people who Government systems but Unemployment has reached high points. I read yesterday that one state reported 6.14 % unemployment for Aug. And if I am not mistaken Bill Clinton (you know Democrat Liberal Ex President) cut back Welfare. The only thing we can blame ourselves for is putting our sweat and blood into making you rich people rich. Perhaps you should try to manufacture your own product for a change. Perhaps you should try to unload your own trucks for a change. Without the Middle class the companies would not be able to make the product that gets them their profit. Without profit people would not want to invest in your stock. It is the middle class worker that keeps this economy going and we are the ones that deserve the tax breaks.

It seems to me that Obama is making millions more than McCain so I suppose he can spend it if he has it. Hilary led her campaign millions in debt and McCain is struggling to get funding. So far Obama has demonstrated that he knows how to get the money he wants to spend and how to budget the money he gets.

All the Brain Washed American Capitalist.
Please research the term Socialism because you may be surprised to find that Socialism does not always mean communism. Socialism is an economical idea the supports the conclusion that no one individual is more crucial to an economical success then another. (See my previous statements to know how I stand there). Communism is a form of socialized government where one person makes all the rules. The American currency is currently in third place in the world. We are worth less then the Euro (Europe) and the Yen (China). Since you are so intelligent can you tell me what those two currencies have in common. Never mind I shouldn’t expect too much from you (after all John McCain is leading the polls in Uneducated voters) the Yen and Euro are both supported by socialistic societies. Europe also has a higher rated medical care than the US. (ever wonder why our country’s initials are U.S I guess it’s either US or them). Also go back and read your history books a little more or simply watch an episode of Little House on the Prairie. Our country was founded on Democratic Socialism. George Washington in his Farwell address mentions the importance of liberalism in a free world.

So could you please remind me which of the two candidates are wolves in sheep’s clothing. The man who is dedicated to his family or the man that cheated on and left his first wife? Unless I missed some new revision of God’s word we are still not suppose to commit adultery, and those who are bound to a wife are not suppose to seek to be loosed.

A Town Meeting on Economic Insecurity:
Employment and Survival in Urban America
By Bob Roman
Over three hundred people attended the first of two Town Meetings on Economic Insecurity on February 25 in Ida Noyes Hall at the University of Chicago. Entitled “Employment and Survival in Urban America”, the meeting was sponsored by the UofC DSA Youth Section, Chicago DSA and University Democrats. The panelists were Toni Preckwinkle, Alderman of Chicago’s 4th Ward; Barack Obama, candidate for the 13th Illinois Senate District; Professor William Julius Wilson, Center for the Study of Urban Inequality at the University of Chicago; Professor Michael Dawson, University of Chicago; and Professor Joseph Schwartz, Temple University and a member of DSA’s National Political Committee.
The meeting demonstrated that economic insecurity is an issue not exclusive to Buchanan Republicans. It is a vital issue for the left as well. More than that, it illustrated that, unlike the Right, the democratic left has a number of potential solutions that go beyond mere demagoguery.
Alderman Preckwinkle began the discussion by observing that the Chicago City Council rarely takes up the great issues facing the city even when it is presented with legislation dealing with these issues. Hearings are not held. Legislation rarely makes it out of committee.
As examples, she used Alderman Joe Moore’s (49th) Privatization Ordinance which was introduced last year and the Jobs and Living Wage Ordinance which will be formally introduced in the Council very soon.
The Privatization Ordinance (see January – February, 1995, New Ground, page 1) was a modest effort to regulate the manner in which city services were privatized. It would have made the process accountable and made sure savings were not accomplished at the expense of employees. The measure was consigned to oblivion in committee. While a majority of the Council “supported” the ordinance, an attempt to release it from committee failed for lack of votes.
The Jobs and Living Wage Ordinance (see January – February, 1996, New Ground, page 10) is a more ambitious attempt to require city contractors to pay a minimum living wage. The measure will be formally introduced into the Council in April or May. Alderman Preckwinkle was not optimistic about its prospects although the presence of the Democratic National Convention may provide some opportunities for better leverage.
Barack Obama observed that Martin Luther King’s March on Washington in the 1960s wasn’t simply about civil rights but demanded jobs as well. Now the issue is again coming to the front, but he wished the issue was on the Democratic agenda not just on Buchanan’s.
One of the themes that has emerged in Barack Obama’s campaign is “what does it take to create productive communities”, not just consumptive communities. It is an issue that joins some of the best instincts of the conservatives with the better instincts of the left. He felt the state government has three constructive roles to play.
The first is “human capital development”. By this he meant public education, welfare reform, and a “workforce preparation strategy”. Public education requires equality in funding. It’s not that money is the only solution to public education’s problems but it’s a start toward a solution. The current proposals for welfare reform are intended to eliminate welfare but it’s also true that the status quo is not tenable. A true welfare system would provide for medical care, child care and job training. While Barack Obama did not use this term, it sounded very much like the “social wage” approach used by many social democratic labor parties. By “workforce preparation strategy”, Barack Obama simply meant a coordinated, purposeful program of job training instead of the ad hoc, fragmented approach used by the State of Illinois today.
The state government can also play a role in redistribution, the allocation of wages and jobs. As Barack Obama noted, when someone gets paid $10 million to eliminate 4,000 jobs, the voters in his district know this is an issue of power not economics. The government can use as tools labor law reform, public works and contracts.

Posted by: Paul | October 9, 2008, 12:02 pm 12:02 pm

McCain’s plan is simply a feeble attempt to pander to distressed homeowners same as his gas tax holiday was. The man has absolutely no coherent policy message which re-inforces the image many Americans see in him…He is erratic and impulsive. A 27 year politician should know better.

I believe so Paul. It makes perfect sense.

Posted by: Mel | October 9, 2008, 12:06 pm 12:06 pm

Mel, you said…Its a like a Priest (the gop) who we are supposed to honor and respect for telling us gods word. Only to find out he is a child molester, or a sexual addict…. so your saying only rep are Christians? i know a lot of dem’s that go to the catholic church. There are just as many dem’s doing bad things in this world as rep. yes most rep believe in God and go by his word. a few bad doesn’t make the rest bad. Dem’s are just as much to blame they also go to those churches. to blame ones faults on everyone else is wrong. To blame all the rep and not the dem’s for those Priest is also wrong.you are just like the others blame everyone but yourself.

Angie is 100% correct!!!!

Posted by: Mel | October 9, 2008, 12:07 pm 12:07 pm

Mel. you think Obama will act this way you said Clinton did? Obama is a man that preaches to you when he talks. Obama tells you what you want to hear. just because he is a dem doesn’t make him this great man. I really don’t like either men running i think they are both full of hot air. but we do not need a preacher we need a leader and i don’t see it in him.

Posted by: star | October 9, 2008, 12:12 pm 12:12 pm

Blame, I am saying that the record speaks for itself. Republicans are the party who are religiously bound. (like in chains, fear god, etc) and they should not be so hypocritical.
Its a unarguable fact: Religion and Politics do not belong together whatsoever. Its in the constitution, and it makes perfect sense.
And Dems are always in the spotlight, and Repubs are always saying the dems are blaming when they are simply “making the point” that the Republican party commits the most “crimes” in regards to “Sin”.
Someone has to point them out. And the Republicans should keep religion out of politics, and at the very least live what they preech. Dont you think?
This subject has been beeten down enough for me, please refrain from pushing a agenda that you cannot defend.

Posted by: Mel | October 9, 2008, 12:13 pm 12:13 pm

blame: “yes most rep believe in God and go by his word. a few bad doesn’t make the rest bad.”
I agree. But the problem is the few bad Republicans seem to be the ones you guys pick to run for office.

Posted by: Paul | October 9, 2008, 12:16 pm 12:16 pm

Star I did not imply that because he is a Democratic he is a great man.
I am implying that “Because he is for the people, and change, with a steady message and a strong heart” he is who I am voting for.
Its not about Dem, or Repub, I would vote for many Republicans I admire, who cannot or will not run for president.
Moderate views, and strong character.

Posted by: Mel | October 9, 2008, 12:16 pm 12:16 pm

I support McCain–I didn’t understand the plan, apparently he didn’t either.
However, it seems that Obama’s ideas have little to do with any proactive solution other than raising taxes on the wealthy and corporations and more “oversight”
Try reading his answers at the debate. He sounds like he is answering questions, but he isn’t…

Posted by: Mel | October 9, 2008, 12:18 pm 12:18 pm

And to follow up further, Mr. blame, a lot of us independents and Democrats have come to see Republicans as closet perverts.
That may not be fair, but its the impression that’s building.
Which party claims to be for traditional values more, and which party has the more sex scandals?
Plus, if you see Fox as the Republican news channel and MSNBC (or maybe all of the others) as the Democratic news channel, that leads to the following joke:
What’s the difference between an anchor at MSNBC and Fox? The Fox anchor is the one in a dress about two sizes too tight.

Posted by: Paul | October 9, 2008, 12:19 pm 12:19 pm

LMAO!!! Paul you are correct again!!!
Paul/Mel for president!!!!
Well on the other hand, I do not want all of this baggage on my lap….lol

Posted by: Mel | October 9, 2008, 12:22 pm 12:22 pm

Why is it all the woman journalist on fox news not all but most look like they came out of a playboy magazine and most are blonde bimbos?

Posted by: angie | October 9, 2008, 12:27 pm 12:27 pm

angie – that’s how they keep all their “traditional values” male viewership.
In a non-election years, here’s the decision tree used in the Fox editorial offices:
Lead with any cute, dead blondes.
The follow with stories about cute, missing blondes.
Finish with the odd antics of cute, blonde, underage celebrities – and have their most embarrassing antics running in a continuous loop behind the anchor.
Sure, there are exceptions. Janet Jackson isn’t blonde. But let’s face it – a bare boob at the Superbowl was just too enticing for Fox not to run it on continuous loop.

Posted by: Paul | October 9, 2008, 12:33 pm 12:33 pm

It goes way beyond just being closet perverts guys. It’s the hijacking of religion itself. From starting questionable wars that kill thousands of civilians to ignoring the plight of the poor and sick to rewarding greed on a massive scale. It’s cardboard-christianity: go to church on Sunday and then forget about it the rest of the week. Real christians have to start to ask themselves if this is what they really stand for, OR NOT!

Posted by: Loki | October 9, 2008, 12:33 pm 12:33 pm

Loki is right.
God is in the heart, and real christians should support a position that “encourages stability, diversion, and respect” for all other faiths, throughout the world.
This approach we have had thus far is sending the message, “we will assimilate you into our beliefs”
That is un-american. and needs to stop.
Our neo-conservative/extremist christians are no different than the people we are fighting in this war on terror. That is the perception we are projecting to the world, and the world is tired of it.

Mel, I’d be happy to run for president, and with you on the ticket.
My campaign slogan – I’m only in it for the pension.
Plus, I’d probably hang out all the time at Camp David. Its much nicer up there than in Washington. And just down the hill is a really nice restaurant called the Cozy Inn – buffet style, but with food that actually has taste. If you’re ever driving down U.S. 15 around dinner time, I recommend a stop in Thurmont.

Sean Hannity is “Rush Limbaugh” in another disguise. He should be banned for his “propaganda and deception”.
He incites people into his agenda.

Sounds great Paul, I will vacation at winter harbor maine, and every once in a while we can go to washington to do some politics.
Isnt that what they do already….lol
Good day everyone, gotta go.

One of the comments suggest we should vote for McCain simply because he was a POW? Can we get a list of names of ALL POWs – I’d rather chose and vote for a name at random than vote for McCain. Bottomline – the fact that he was a former POW, alone, does not qualify him to lead this country. If that is the only credential needed, there are thousands that should listed on the ticket!

McCain vs. Rollingstone Article.
McCain is not even close to being presidential or even a person to admire. What a piece of waste.

All in all, I think I’d rather have Hussein for a middle name than Sidney.
Sidney sounds like the kid who gets beat up all the time.
In fact, here’s an interesting point. Ever notice how most presidents have middle names that sound more like last names than they do first names?
Bush has Walker
Clinton has Jefferson
Reagan had Wilson
Nixon had Milhous
Johnson had Baines
Kennedy had Fitzgerald
Roosevelt had Delano
From that perspective, Obama is much more qualified than McCain to be president; Hussein sounds more like a last name than Sidney.

Mccain does not mind being the biggest socialist if it gets him votes, I guess that is what a maverick is – anything to anyone. At 9 am is maverick who panders to the religious right, at noon, turns to satisfy fiscal conservatives, at tea time turns to please the socialists and in the evening turns to satisfy the primal needs of the Joe sixpacks and KKK types.

Hitting the News today:
Sarah Palin thought it was a good idea to hire Liddy to promote drilling in ANWR. Did she know Liddy was convicted of conspiracy, burglary, wiretapping, contempt of court and contempt of Congress; was willing to kill a janitor and a journalist as part of the Watergate break-in; admitted plotting to firebomb the Brookings Institution? Kidnap plans?

Paul, thanks for the middle name perspective. My favorite is Warren G. Harding’s middle name: Gamaliel
Harding, a conservative Republican from Ohio does not rank high in the presidential Hall Of Fame. but it has nothing to do with his middle name.
Gamaliel…could you imagine what kind of grief today’s blogheads would make about Gamaliel? Who cares?

Nice way of saying “we changed our minds.”

Let me get this straight.
The dems OK Paulson to buy up the bad assets -which is directly mortgage bundles and credit card debt, but if Mc Cain goes straight to the source and buys the mortgages hes wrong ?
Why is it ok to bail out banks and wall st but its not ok to help the homeowner?
Answer? OBAMA didnt think of it first.
Politics as usual.

You know that riot threat was used even when BO was running against Hillary. Sounds to me as if the BO camp is worried.
I noticed also that Zogby has said to ignore the current polls claiming BO will win by a landslide.
I believe that the McCain/Palin ticket will win — because I don’t think BO & cronies can continue to suppress the facts.

I think McCain is caught between a rock and a hard place. His comment concerning banks taking their losses is hopefully the real McCain but I’m sure he’s under fire from inside his party if he makes comments like that so it is deleted.
McCains problem is that he’s like a loose cannon on deck, constantly swinging the pendulum from one side to anther. Palin was a huge mistake and I dread to think what would happen if McCain became sick, incapacitated or died because she is not up to it.
Quite why the military support the republicans I dont know. There been little to no support from Bush or McCain and the idea we can go on fighting this war indefinitely is ludicrous.
To fix this country will require getting out of Iraq, cutting military spending on esoteric projects that are running on a cost plus basis which is something McCain cant get .Many countries and empires have fallen because of the cost of conflicts. We are so worried about extremist that we have bankrupted ourselves while people walk across our southern border in droves.
In the meantime the oil companies have doubled the cost of living, good paying jobs in manufacturing are gone and we wonder why people cant pay their mortgage. Rather than helping the little guy out we are giving money in droves to the fat cats so AIG can have a 400000 junket in Vegas.
Its time to get some common sense back and the first thing to do is get rid of lobbyists and in this respect Obama campaign is better as it is funded by the little guys rather than fat cats that will call in the tab.

Law pausing foreclosures.
What do your experts think of this idea.? Could Congress pass a law that would stop and prevent all foreclosures on homes for at least 1 year (or maybe a few more) if the borrower paid at least 6% interest on the loan balance (plus taxes and insurance)? Here is what it could do. It should apply to all residential loans made, owned or serviced by any federally regulated financial institution. With the prime rate at 4.5% a 6% return is fair and much better than nothing. It should slow dramatically the number of foreclosed homes being added to an already flooded market. It will allow homeowners to make reasonable payments for at least a year or more. It will allow Congress to revisit the interest rate at the sunset date of the law. It would apply only to ARM loans made during a certain window, say January 1, 2001 through July 2008. This should not cost us taxpayers anything. This will modify loans that cannot be modified now because they are in large pools of investments owned by many investors. For those homeowners that bought way more than they can afford even at 6%, sorry but this won’t help you. This will give the residential market some time to stabilize and hopefully start increasing in value again. Granted this does not solve the long term problem of what to do with these loans in the future, but it might help our current crisis and give us more time to look for long term solutions.

republicans-the party of socialism-first they took away our freedoms and rights and replace it with socialistic takeovers of the financial systems. we are not only paying for their bad war-now we are on the hook for their mismanagement and lazyness. I wouldn’t tell anyone if I was a republican
