The Note: Palin Delivers — But Too Late for McCain?

ABC News’ Rick Klein reports in Friday’s Note:

ST. LOUIS — Where’s she been? (And where can she still take him?)

Take that, Tina Fey: You betcha Gov. Sarah Palin is back — darn right (wink) — and it might matter yet. She may not have been a clear winner Thursday night, but the McCain ticket has got a different story to shout out on Friday — even if all Palin did was square-dance over the bar she had lowered herself.

She did more than that, actually, and that gives Sen. John McCain the narrowest of openings. In a political world that’s falling apart for the GOP almost by the hour, Palin (plus a House vote Friday that puts the bailout package out of its miserable turn in the news cycle) can buy a little time.

Maybe she doesn’t want to talk more about global warming, or about what vice presidents do, or about who’s commanding US troops in Afghanistan. Perhaps she isn’t entirely clear on where her running mate is on everything (it’s only been, like, five weeks). Maybe (definitely) she really, really wants us to think she and McCain are “mavericks.”

But Palin returned to the source of her popularity Thursday night at Washington University in St. Louis — the folksy, aw-shucks, look-who’s-running-for-vice-president appeal that reminds us that shortly before she was a drag on the ticket she was a phenom in her own right.

Read the rest of The Note — and get all the latest on the 2008 election, Congress, the White House and the wide world of politics every day — from Rick Klein by bookmarking this link.

Sen. Joe Biden may have turned in the better debate performance. But it was Palin’s night regardless, and she’s still a force and a factor now. If this is still a race, John McCain will have some company for it yet.

“By surviving her encounter with Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr. and quelling some of the talk about her basic qualifications for high office, she may even have done Senator John McCain a bit of good, freeing him to focus on the other troubles shadowing his campaign,” Adam Nagourney writes in The New York Times.

Nagourney continues: “It was not a tipping point for the embattled Republican presidential ticket, the bad night that many Republicans had feared. But neither did it constitute the turning point the McCain campaign was looking for after a stretch of several weeks in which Senator Barack Obama seemed to be gaining the upper hand in the race.”

Does this mean we get to talk about the presidential candidates again? “One debate will not erase doubts that have been building about Palin’s capacity to serve as vice president, but the effect of the encounter may shift the focus away from the sideshow that Palin has become and put it back on the two presidential nominees and what they would do for the country,” Dan Balz writes in The Washington Post. “Republicans had a positive reaction, as if a weight had been lifted off McCain’s shoulders.”

Palin was “poised and confident, speaking colloquially in a way that could appeal to independents,” Bill Lambrecht writes in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “She was fluent, if not brilliant, on foreign policy. And even if she didn’t actually answer some of moderator Gwen Ifill’s questions, many voters may not have noticed and others probably won’t hold it against her.”

On style, ABC’s George Stephanopoulos gives Palin an A and Biden an A-; both get Bs on accuracy.

Too bad they chose “insane McCain”, the GOP had better options. But that’s what you get when you take a dive. The GOP blew up any shot at this when they chose a Kennedy Democrat over a real Republican. But at least Palin will have a future after this fiasco.

* If you grow up in Hawaii , raised by your grandparents, you’re ‘exotic, different.’
* Grow up in Alaska eating mooseburgers, a quintessential American story.
* If your name is Barack you’re a radical, unpatriotic Muslim.
* Name your kids Willow, Trig and Track, you’re a maverick.
* Graduate from Harvard law School and you are unstable.
* Attend 5 different small colleges before graduating, you’re well grounded.
* If you spend 3 years as a brilliant community organizer, become the first black President of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter registration drive that registers 150,000 new voters, spend 12 years as a Constitutional Law professor, spend 8 years as a State Senator representing a district with over 750,000 people, become chairman of the state Senate’s Health and Human Services committee, spend 4 years in the United States Senate representing a state of 13 million people while sponsoring 131 bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran’s Affairs committees, you don’t have any real leadership experience.
* If your total resume is: local weather girl, 4 years on the city council and 6 years as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people, 20 months as the governor of a state with only 650,000 people, then you’re qualified to become the country’s second highest ranking executive and next in line behind a man in his eighth decade.
* If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years while raising 2 beautiful daughters, all within Protestant churches, you’re not a real Christian.
* If you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, and then left your disfigured wife and married the heiress the next month, you’re a true Christian.
* If you teach responsible, age appropriate sex education, including the proper use of birth control, you are eroding the fiber of society.
* If, while governor, you staunchly advocate abstinence only, with no other option in sex education in your state’s school system while your unwed teen daughter ends up pregnant, you’re very responsible.
* If your wife is a Harvard graduate lawyer who gave up a position in a prestigious law firm to work for the betterment of her inner city community, then gave that up to raise a family, your family’s values don’t represent America ‘s.
* If your husband is nicknamed ‘First Dude’, with at least one DWI conviction and no college education, who didn’t register to vote until age 25 and once was a member of a group that advocated the secession of Alaska from the USA, your family is extremely admirable.
ok – now I get it…. or do I?

I believe McCain lost the election 2 weeks ago. In 2004 it was national security. Bush won. It’s 2008 and it’s the economy… favors Democrats.
Obama has an average of a 6 point lead. Leading McCain 300+ on the electoral map.
A month ago I would have said this would be a close election. No longer. Obama has clearly moved far ahead.

McCain should have opposed the bail-out and shown himself to be a real “maverick”…. and also made a distinct showing of who caused this mess and how the Dem-wit’s got us to this point. Now we will have to listen to Osama Bin lying for 4 years! Oh well, the pendulum swings…I don’t think I’ll bother to vote this time….. it would be a waste of my time!

Okay, I am convinced that the polls are fixed. Right after the debate a poll was taken (Fox) who did better Biden or Palin and the poll reflected Palin 85% and Biden 17%. And, this morning many of the polls reflect just the opposite.

Who owns the “media”? Biden lied outrageously. He said that Barack Obama never said he would sit down and talk unconditionally with leaders such as Mahmoud Ahmedinijad. Every single person that has a television and watched one of the debates with Obama clearly heard Obama say this. Last night it was “drill we must” out of Biden’s mouth. Joe Biden HAS NEVER back drilling for oil? NEVER. Biden stated that under Obama, Americans won’t pay any more in taxes then they did under Reagan—that is a complete untruth and he knows it (did you see his face when he uttered those words)?

Posted by: Ann | October 3, 2008, 9:06 am 9:06 am

Joe Biden’s job as Vice President is to sit (according to Biden) “right there” at all of the meetings and give the inexperienced, wet behind the ears Obama advice. Palin like most Americans is tried of this type of government. She wants government to go back to the old saying “say what you mean, and mean what you say”. Palin understands our energy needs; she has run (executive experience) a huge State. Obama is a community organizer that left his charge Chicago, Illinois with the most crime in the nation.

Posted by: Ann | October 3, 2008, 9:07 am 9:07 am

Americans need to vote for bills that fix things, not because the bill has been sweetened with pork (gifts to them) but because they are there to do what is right for America–get these other people out of office! I finally got it…Obama isn’t more of the same, he is much worse; he is at the top of what is ruining America. Obama has his “cult” and his Obama Truth Squad; his rules are do not ask anything about my past, my past acquaintances, only stick to the issues. He still doesn’t get it. “Character” should be one of the MOST important characteristics of a President. His wife in her college thesis stated “There was no doubt in my mind that as a member of the black community, I am obligated to this community and will utilize all of my present and future resources to benefit the black community first and foremost.” A statement not worthy of the country’s first lady—all Americans should come first and foremost.

The main-stream media would like it to be “too late” for McCain. Fortunately, the media doesn’t get to decide the presidency.

Posted by: Carrie | October 3, 2008, 9:08 am 9:08 am

Our country is hurting, it has problems and both parties are to blame because we have people in these parties that do not have their hearts in the right place. The choice is clear. If you want someone that has put “America first”, actually fought for our country, a “maverick” that has chosen another maverick (it shouldn’t matter that she is a female) to put America back on track, you select John McCain-Sarah Palin. If you want more of the same, Biden whispering into the ear of Obama, more taxes, less defense, someone waving a “white flag” America gives up, and socialism, then vote for Barack Obama-Joe Biden.
No party affiliation, just a concerned American

The Media Better get “With it”
Sarah Palin was wonderful.
The media is not being honest about our candidates. Actually they haven’t been honest about Obama since day one.
Why is anyone pushing Obama and Biden.
Obama has no experience.
He’s risky.
He is scary.
His friends, his associates and his background should be questioned daily.
Rev. Wright, Farrakhan, Rezko, William Ayers, Father Plaeger and now ACORN.
Please keep investigating this man.
Obama is running for President of our country, not for a “public speaker” position.
If the media doesn’t do it’s job. Obama and the children that are supporting him, might rap in the White House.
Obama is embarrassing.

Joe Biden won the debate. He answered each and every question and to the point. Joe really impressed me. On the other hand, Palin, did not answer most of her questions and some of her answers were not sensible or has no clarity. She was reading from que cards which was embarrassing. Palin showed to the whole world that she is incompetent for the job.

I watched the debate last night, very eagerly and attentively. Both nominees did a good job, however Biden delivered facts and delivered the Obama message. Biden answered the questions and Palin side stepped the facts and did not answer questions. She attempted to focus the debate on topics she was comfortable with, but ended up repeating phrases over and over… nothing new.

sarah palin won the debate clear and simple. biden looked old and talked like a politician. palin clearly exceded expectations and was more likeable. she has a certain star power that draws people and that is why her opponents go after her. now the race can go back to what really matters and that is who should be our president. i will vote for the mccain/palin ticket because obama is not ready to lead and is too liberal for my taste.

Biden spoke like if he were at the Senate: boring, nervous, irritated, cold. The tyical Washington lawyer speech we´ve heard for years. How can a man that has worked on politics his whole life say he understand people´s problems?

It’s easy to perform well if you tell the moderator that you’re not going to answer the questions the way she asks them. Why do we need a moderator then? And does she know the meaning of Achilles Heel? She answered the complete opposite of the question. And the media is excited because she didn’t drool on herself.

With the troubles this nation has been going through, there is no time to bring in someone like Palin, she is incompetent and a gimmick for the republicans, their playing a dead hand, and their only hope is that voters just like Palin because she’s a hockey mom, the last 7+ years have been a nightmare…

Sarah Palin succeeded in casting herself as an outsider. Those of you who didn’t like her “folksy” way just don’t get it. She appeals to millions of people in this country who don’t eat argula, hate the left-wing media, and think Hollywood liberals should STFU. Sarah Palin is fighting for her place in history, and for what she believes is right. She isn’t going to pick up her marbles and go home just because the media and the Democrats beat up on her. No matter how this election turns out, Sarah Palin has a bright future in politics. She’s brighter than people think, and she’s more of a fighter than anyone imagined. As a woman, I’m proud of her performance, whether or not I agree with her political opinions.

Early votes have already begun. Registration has increased increadibly and it is because people have made up their minds that they want change and are willing to do what they did not do in the past, VOTE.
Yesterday was a HUGE dissapointment to both. To Republicans that hoped to see Joe Biden treat Sarah Palin as an equal so that they could later say he was abusive and un-gentleman-like.
And to Democrats who hoped Sarah would, well be herself.
I was upset that Joe did not call her out for lying about the pipeline “we are building” but that ia allright, I understand he knows Sarah and John would have shamelessly use the gender card if he did. I liked the moderator MUCH MORE than the one on the PResidential debate. NOW THAT’S A WOMANT THAT MAKES ME PROUD OF SAYING I’M A WOMAN TOO!

The only people she delivered to was her base, nothing has changed, nothing. The people who are going to decide this election, independents, undecides say Biden WINS. Joe was brillant.
Palin is a scary unequalifed joke.
Of note, I gurantee McCain camp will not let her do anymore interviews, so that she does not say anything stupid to mess up the tiny mommentum she gained because of the debates.

The entire list of concerns you listed (oh no, a guy in his neighborhood was a radical when Obama was 13! I’m so scared!) has been thoroughly aired, headlined, discussed and analyzed during the “kitchen sink” primaries. Americans have heard about it all and evaluated it as minor irrelevancies, just like McCain’s pathetic showing in Academy, abandonment of his wife, and silver-spoon existence (with the exception of the time he was imprisoned). This election is about policies Obama has several hundred pages of detailed policy papers at his site in addition to his law making in IL, and McCain has quite the voting record to judge.
I’m sorry if you’re still addicted to living in fear, but most Americans are living in reality.

Mtr2311 – “Rassmussen and Gallup are the only two decent polls to read” You are exactly right. I put more faith in Rassmussen and Gallup than the network polls. Liberal media such as ABC and CBS skew their polls to reflect what they want to see. The left-wing media tries to create the impression that an Obama victory is inevitable. Their hope is that McCain supporters will be so demoralized that many won’t bother to vote. The mainstream media has consistently used the power of their pens and their microphones to promote the candidacy of Barack Obama. American journalism is a disgrace.

I find this comment hilarious, seeing as how picking up her marbles is EXACTLY how she’s treated the media. While Obama and Biden are willing to wade into FoxNews for one on one interviews, and Obama has been facing sometimes hostile press conferences for as long as Palin has been governor (remember the grillings over Wright, or him getting hammered in Jordan about the surge?) – Palin? Took her marbles and went home. Three interviews (and the FoxNews one was definate more an infomercial) in over five weeks. That is an unprecedented fear of the press. Imagine her speaking unscripted to Putin, it would be WORSE than President Bush.

DEBATE TRASCIPRT FRAUD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Palin’s actual comment was
“I may not answer the questions THE WAY that either the moderator or you want to hear”

Palin survived and beat expectations, but those expectations were extraordinarily low. She didn’t collapse on stage or commit any major blunders, but her responses were largely canned (often read) and completely lacking in substance. Biden was competent, informed, and seemed more genuine. He spoke about economic and foreign policy issues in great detail and with passion. Some of Palin’s answers were silly (nuclear weapons) and confused (McClellan–the Civil War general–and the “surge” in Afghanistan). If you were already supporting the McCain ticket, you were probably relieved by her performance–and it was a performance. I don’t see them changing minds with this, however, or suddenly convincing undecided voters that she is competent and ready to be vice president or president after all.

Andrea: “The mainstream media has consistently used the power of their pens and their microphones to promote the candidacy of Barack Obama. ”
This is utter nonsense. Most of us can remember the field day the press had over Rev Wright, the free passes McCain has received on everything from confusing Sunni and Shia to claiming an Iraq-Pakistan border, and the early anointing of Senator Clinton as inevitable.
The press is not in the tank, they are reporting reality. When they report McCain voted with Bush 95% of the time last year, or spend more time reporting on Obama who does twice as many events a week as McCain, that’s not bias – that’s reality.

Cynthia, I like what you say. But I have to clarify something we let them condition us in:
YOU DON’T WIN JUST BECAUSE YOU DIDN’T SUCK.
Don’t let them further lower our standards.
She was disrespectful to Joe and he had to stand in the side and smile. WHY? because that’s what us women do… Come on ladies FESS UP lol… we bark and get on their face because we know there’s nothing they can do about it. I disliked her sarcastic tone very much and I know other women are not fans of that either. But I am proud to say Joe let it slide for what matters most and didn’t take her bait.
I did love THIS SHE SAID:
“We’re tired of the old politics as usual. And that’s why, with all due respect, I do respect your years in the U.S. Senate, but I think Americans are craving something new and different and that new energy and that new commitment that’s going to come with reform.”

I have to admit that I am not aware of Joe’s lies. So if someone can check go ahead and post them. I will of course research it.
BUT I can tell you without having to do further research that Sarah Lied here:
- saying McCain does not say one thing to one group and other things to another group: That’s EXACTLY what he did in Bermuda and if you look at his videos where he contradict himself.
- Saying big oil will not get tax cuts, and downright speaking about Oil Companies like if she distances from them… the very people who funded her campaigns in teh past
- that pipeline is not being built yet, and it might never be built if the Natives in Canada get their way.

McCain’s choice of Palin was reckless. Can you imagine what a substantive debate it would have been if it had been Biden vs. Condi Rice; Biden vs. Kay Bailey Hutchinson; Biden vs. Marjorie Snow?
Unemployment was at a 7 year high and grew again today; housing market worse it’s been since the depression; people across America losing their businesses; two wars going on, climate crisis Palin does not believe is man-made and Palin is winking and being folksy with her answers. May-be if times were better, her folksiness would be better received, but these issues are not going to get solved with winks and memorized platforms.
It’s shameful in the worst economic and turbulent foreign policy times of our lives that “surviving” a VP debate is considered adequate.

Clinton Administration Changes of 1995
In early 1993 President Clinton proposed new regulations for the CRA which would increase access to mortgage credit for inner city and distressed rural communities.[7] The new rules went into effect on January 31, 1995 and featured: requiring numerical assessments to get a satisfactory CRA rating; using federal home-loan data broken down by neighborhood, income group, and race; encouraging community groups to complain when banks were not loaning enough to specified neighborhood, income group, and race; allowing community groups that marketed loans to targeted groups to collect a fee from the banks.[5]
In a 1995 congressional hearing on proposed changes to regulation of the Community Reinvestment Act William A. Niskanen, chair of the Cato Institute, criticized the proposals for political favoritism in allocating credit, micromanagement by regulators and concerns about bank losses and soundness. He said it would be very costly to the economy and the banking system and that the primary long term effect would be to contract the banking system. He recommended congress repeal the Act.[8]
Responding to arguments that CRA would lower bank profitability, a 1997 research paper by economists at the Federal Reserve found that “[CRA] lenders active in lower-income neighborhoods and with lower-income borrowers appear to be as profitable as other mortgage-oriented commercial banks”.[9]
According to a United States Department of the Treasury study of lending trends in 305 U.S. cities between 1993 and 1998, 467 billion dollars in mortgage credit flowed from CRA-covered lenders to CRA-eligible borrowers. The number of CRA mortgage loans increased by 39 percent. Other loans increased by only 17 percent.[10
Well now I guess we see what happens when you lower the standards for people

Why does Palin feel the need to wink at the american people If something happens to McCain, God forbid, I don’t want a President winking at me with a smile as she delivers her message that she has practiced. She can do whatever she likes as a woman representing her own familiy. But she cannot represent the United States of American as a President. The world is watching and will think of her as a woman with a skirt instead of a President with intelligence.

reddog- Palin had to adjust her climate talking points so that she does not contradict the top of her ticket.
Here is just one quote of many prior to Palin geting on the ticket w/McCain:
“A changing environment will affect Alaska more than any other state, because of our location. I’m not one though who would attribute it to being man-made.”

As an objective observer with no voting rights in the USA, I find it alarming that that the most powerful nation on the planet could even consider Ms Palin as a contender for any office, never mind that of VP. She appears to know only what she’s had crammed into her head, and when she doesn’t know she just…smiles, winks, changes the subject. Imagine her sitting down with Putin, say, or imagine her ‘aw shucks’ manner making sense in Middle East negotiations. I can’t even imagine her sitting with a medioctrity like Gordon Brown. She is a cheerleader, and aside from a few thought she’s had drummed into her by McCain’s coaches, she is utterly lost and empty. This is a shame and embarrassment for a country that could lead the world….

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Friday again shows Barack Obama attracting 51% of the vote while John McCain earns 44%. For each of the past eight days, Obama has been at 50% or 51% and McCain has been at 44% or 45%. New polling shows Obama pulling away in New Hampshire and opening a growing lead in the Electoral College projections.

Bill Lambrecht writes in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “She was fluent, if not brilliant, on foreign policy.”
She was not “fluent” unless this related to an ability to read and memorize talking points. She didn’t have a clue about the meaning behind her words.
And the wink, wink cutesy was demeaning to a woman who should want to be taken seriously running to be a potential president.
“Doggone it Vladimir, there you go tain. Now you just have to stop that.”

reddog0216: “Biden out and out lied knowing the truth she may of mispoke on some granted Biden lied time and time again”
Beg all you like, but given the McCain campaign’s track record of lying you will have to provide actual examples before anyone is likely to believe you. Both canidates had lies of the “mispoke” type. For example, Biden said McCain voted against easing the bankruptcy law to ease the foreclosure crisis, when in fact McCain merely opposed the bill and never showed up to vote (his well-worn version of the “present” vote in IL). Or Palin said, “we’re now down to presurge numbers in Iraq” she’s actually wrong – we still have more boots on the ground than before the surge started.
So feel free to cite the many lies of Biden. You have no credibility to just offer your personal assessment and expect anyone to believe it.

Palin used every tactic she learned as a video journalism major.
Unfortunately, she didn’t have the facts right.
She was adamant that she knew what the Afghanistan general said about the surge. She said we would find out today that she was correct.
We now learn that…
1) She didn’t know the general’s name.
2) Biden was right and Palin was wrong about the general’s surge statement.

Palin’s “folksey” charm was an embarressment and an insult to anyone who lived/lives in small towns across America as I did. Her refusal to answer questions asked in the debate showed two things: total disrespect for a respectful debate forum and diversionary tactics to hide her lack of knowledge on issues/policies and world events. I did not expect her to know as much as Biden, but reciting “talking points” with sarcastic confidence does not show any depth of knowledge or give me any comfort in knowing she is a “heart-beat away” from becoming president. McCain/Palin must think “small town America” is too STUPID to vote based on policies, isssues, and candidate qualifications if they have to continue the “Beverly Hillbillies” sideshow in order to gain votes. There are a lot of very intelligent people who live in small towns that want serious answers to serious problems…not a “wink” and a “awe-shucks”.

In 2002 there was an inter-agency review of the effectiveness of the 1995 regulatory changes to the Community Reinvestment Act and new proposals were considered.[5] The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, and the Office of the Controller of the Currency put new regulations into effect September of 2005.[11] The regulations were opposed by a contingent of Democrats because the action “undercuts the statutory purpose of the Act for institutions to meet the needs of low and moderate-income persons and communities by OTS.”[12]
The regulations included less restrictive new definitions of “small” and “intermediate small” banks.[2] “Intermediate small banks” were defined as banks with assets of less than $1 billion, but allows banks to opt for examination as a large bank.[11] Currently banks with assets greater than $1.061 billion have their CRA performance evaluated according to lending, investment and service tests. The agencies use the Consumer Price Index to adjust the asset size thresholds for small and large institutions annually.[

Well, I also understood what Sarah Palin meant when she told Charlie Gibson that Russia could be seen from parts of Alaska.
Alaska is our only state that deals on a daily basis with TWO international borders, one friendly (Canada), one uncertain (Russia).
That uncertainty in my book definitely means that the Governor and State of Alaska deal on a day-to-day basis with the possibility, however remote, of foreign invasion.
I reside in a state along the U.S/Mexico Border. Our border was crossed in 1916 by guerrila soldiers under Pancho Villa during the Mexican Revolution who attacked one of our border villages and killed several residents. At the present time, drug runners and drug cartels are killing off their competition in the Mexican city just across the border, three miles south of that U.S. community that Pancho Villa raided in 1916. That community lives every day with the possibility that the violence could spill over into our state.
America is a large and diverse country, and those of us who deal daily with living in such close proximity to a foreign country do not need a decoder ring to understand what Sarah Palin speaks about.

today: “One can spin this anyway possible…”
Forget the spin. Someone just explain to me what she was trying to say.
To me, it sounded like her answers were each a jumble of different talking points, in which the end of her answer didn’t even seem consistent with the beginning.
If that’s too harsh, someone give me some points they felt they heard her make?

Palin was “poised and confident, speaking colloquially in a way that could appeal to independents,” Bill Lambrecht writes in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “She was fluent, if not brilliant, on foreign policy.

As an independent voter, I view the upcoming election as a reversal.
Whichever party wins and is in power will be leading during the worst economic depression since the great depression.
Right now, that looks like the Democrats stand to keep control of both houses of Congress and possibly get control of the White House.
Understand this: The heralded bailout is just a temporary fix. Borrowing $850 billion to give to Wall Street from the American taxpayers is nothing more than election year politics.
The economic policy failures of the Nixon/Ford years were blamed on Jimmy Carter.
The policy failures of the Reagan years were blamed on George H. W. Bush.
The policy failures of the George W. Bush years will be blamed on the next President.
Whoever is elected will not avert the coming disaster and will take the blame for what happens.

Carrie – “Only the blinded will vote against them.”
I like your line.
If they were blind and deaf they would not be guilty, but because they say they see and hear their guilt remains.
Palin is one of the few American politicians who are genuine and authentic. Stunning how she handled every question – thinking on her feet – reasoning from her own principles.

SandyB: “Alaska is our only state that deals on a daily basis with TWO international borders, one friendly (Canada), one uncertain (Russia). That uncertainty in my book definitely means that the Governor and State of Alaska deal on a day-to-day basis with the possibility, however remote, of foreign invasion.”
You’re kidding, right?
Okay, and assuming you aren’t too worried about a Canadian invasion, how exactly does Palin prepare Alaska for those pesky Russians?

The reality of the coming election is reflected in the reality of the secret ballot.
When voting in secret, Americans tend to vote with their class, race, and gender, when possible.
When the curtain closes and the ballots are cast, the majority will elect a President from the majority.
You do the math.

Biden brought up fairness as a keyword for class warfare. The 95% tax break is exactly the sort of pandering that works well in America. What many of us now realize is that the “fairness” pandering of the Clinton administration pushed loans to people who cannot repay them. This ruined the economy and those people’s lives. Fairness is not as important in being rational – although we want both.
Palin as a working person embodies both. As a life long democrat, I am astounded at her appeal across all boundaries. She is both fair and rational. She seems to have very little guile as well.

This Republican talking point has really taken on a life of its own.
How exactly did government force lenders to lower their cash reserves? How exactly did government force lenders to offer these mortgages to people who couldn’t pay them?

Posted by: Paul | October 3, 2008, 11:33 am 11:33 am

The other bit about Palin is there seems to be no hatred in her. No sheathing resentment that is the main spring of the democratic party today.
As A life long democrat, I am through with the hatred that is now the primary motivator of democrats. Look at the down on everything sarcasm that passes as political dialog from democrats.
I am extremely hopeful that America is turning toward honest, upbeat, working people. The “Dirty Jobs” guy is that sort of working person. We want to know how people work. It is amazingly uplifting to come in contact with people like that. Palin is one of those people.

Posted by: today | October 3, 2008, 11:33 am 11:33 am

I fear for our military and America’s safety if Palin becomes President.
She referred to our Afghanistan General as General McLellan. General McLellan was a terrible civil war general. Our Afghanistan General McKiernan has done a tremendous job, despite little support from Bush and McCain.
Even worse, Palin claimed to know McKiernan’s view on using a surge in Afghanistan. She demanded that Americans see for themselves. I did my research and Palin was wrong. Her demand that she was right, was terrible.
God help us, it appears the same people who taught Bush are teaching Palin.
Does anyone really think our allies have any faith in her as a leader?

Carrie: “Only the blinded will vote against them.”
Yup, no cult of personality impervious to fact or reason around Palin. No siree.
Even Obama doesn’t get such slavish devotion – recall the beating he took from ‘his’ Left supporters when he pragmatically voted for the (better than nothing) FISA bill and didn’t ax the Patriot Act.
This is politics, selecting leaders to run the biggest bureaucracy in the world. Not a religion. Snap out of it.

Carrie, what point was that. I didn’t hear a clear message how McCain would be different from Bush. I only heard talking points and she didn’t always answer the question. I’ll admit I got bored towards the end and was only half listening.
Yes Annie, that is the point, people for Obama are only half listening. If you Obama lovers would check and listen for once, he was in on our economic disaster. Biden last night lied several times. Even Palin brought that out when he was corrected stating he was for something, but now that he is the VP candidate, he changes his mind. Would you want someone who changes his mind just because he may get a higher position. I thought they were for the people, but they are just for themselves, that is why we are in this mess and Obama has both CEO’s for Freddie Mac & Fannie Mae on his election committee and who do you think told Obama to get Biden as a VP candidate – “can we say crooked lenders” Obama stated at first that he is for partial birth abortion, but when he found out that wasn’t getting him votes, now he is pro-life. He keeps changing what he stands for. Now I know what he means about “I am for change”. He changes everything he means to get votes.

The BOTS are busy working for Slick Rick THE POVERTY PIMP! OH BABY!
McCain Office Break-In… Computer Stolen Before Speech
Vandals broke into the McCain-Palin Campaign headquarters in Independence Missouri on Thursday before a speech by John McCain at the Independence Truman Library.
KMOV reported on the latest crime against a GOP office.
The Republican Party is tightening security at four Missouri phone banks after a break-in and theft of a laptop at one of the offices.
Police in the Kansas City suburb of Independence said Thursday that a rock was thrown through a window to gain entry to the McCain/Victory Office. A campaign staffer’s laptop and satchel were taken between 10 p.m. Tuesday and 6 a.m. Wednesday.
The theft took place in the hours before GOP presidential nominee John McCain’s speech Wednesday at the Truman Presidential Library and Museum in Independence, Truman’s hometown.
Missouri Republican Party spokeswoman Tina Hervey said 24-hour security is being established at GOP offices in St. Louis, Independence, St. Charles and Springfield.

Actually, the tax levels he is proposing worked pretty well in REAGAN’S America. Can you even state what tax level he is proposing and compare it to historic periods of prosperity, or are you just another President Bush bitter-ender who has no actual knowledge just a slavish devotion to the cut taxes soundbite? Too big a surplus from the Clinton years? Tax cut! Too big a deficit? Tax cut! Credit market crisis? Bailout!

There is a craving in America for an uplifting message. Barack Obama is a great orator – OK, people say like Biden that he is a plagiarist. I am not concerned about that so much as that his message is a tonic we all need. The American psyche has been in a down hill spiral.
Palin is has that same uplifting message and she has executive experience. Her points about knowing how to manage energy using an “all of the above” strategy was arguably her best point.
I think it goes back to the American positive personality of the hard working, honest, go for it, American worker. We have a problem and we go at it with everything. That is a hugely positive message.

Is this a question poll for the American Public or is it just another media intake on the debates?
This entire article seemed to put Sarah Palin down as if she was a lower class or just plain “folksy”? There is nothing wrong with being a Normal American i.e. a Hockey Mom or Joe six-pack! It is Media standards that have stooped to an all time low. Maybe they should read what the public thinks about them?
Sarah Palin was fantastic, as a Democrat supporting and voting for John McCain, because of his integrity, honor and love of this country. I believe he will do what us “Middle Class” people want him to do, and that is to end the corruption in government. I personally DO NOT want this Bail out under any circumstance. But IF it passes, I hope those people getting monies $150billion in “PORK” will be looked into. We know following the money is the way to go. Then let the chips fall where they may. Because most of us know whose hands will be dirty.
With that said we had a debate party at my home last night and we saw it as another “Gotcha” moment for the McCain side. We’ve been doing a lot of research on issues that are hot topics that Sarah Palin spoke about, economy, energy, the election and who will be running for other seats in the senate etc…
What I would like to know is why has the media been so focused on NON issues about the election instead of the things we want to hear?
Examples of “Opinion” on this article: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27001026/
My Opinon: This one has not been reported ENOUGH! We know we do not want Government to get involved in our health period!
“BIDEN: “As a matter of fact, John recently wrote an article in a major magazine saying that he wants to do for the health care industry — deregulate it and let the free market move — like he did for the banking industry.”
THE FACTS: Biden and Obama have been perpetuating this distortion of what McCain wrote in an article for the American Academy of Actuaries. McCain, laying out his health plan, only referred to deregulation when saying people should be allowed to buy health insurance across state lines. In that context, he wrote: “Opening up the health insurance market to more vigorous nationwide competition, as we have done over the last decade in banking, would provide more choices of innovative products less burdened by the worst excesses of state-based regulation.”
My Opinon: You would be surprised how many people understand the part of Alaska that she wants to drill; and think the Polar Bears will be just fine. Who got the “PORK” money to do the “Research” on the Polar Bears?
“PALIN: Claimed she has taken on the oil industry as Alaska governor.
THE FACTS: Palin pushed to impose a windfall profits tax on oil companies and distributed the proceeds to the state’s citizens to offset rising energy costs. However, she has also sided with the industry on a number of issues. She sued the Interior Department over its designation of polar bears as an endangered species. That puts her on the same side as the American Petroleum Institute, the oil industry’s chief trade association. She also supports the industry’s desire to drill in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge — a position at odds with McCain.”
Hmmm why don’t you add that to your list of…IT doesn’t matter what the “REAL” people think; only what the mainstream media wants us to think.
My mind today is so “discombobulated” by the comments I’ve been hearing in mainstream media all morning so far. This is only one example of “Stuck on Stupid” as there are so many!
REPORT JOE BIDEN’S 14 LIES In the DEBATE 10/2/08?
1. TAX VOTE: Biden said McCain voted “the exact same way” as Obama to increase taxes on Americans earning just $42,000, but McCain DID NOT VOTE THAT WAY.
2. AHMEDINIJAD MEETING: Joe Biden lied when he said that Barack Obama never said that he would sit down unconditionally with Mahmoud Ahmedinijad of Iran. Barack Obama did say specifically, and Joe Biden attacked him for it.
3. OFFSHORE OIL DRILLING: Biden said, “Drill we must.” But Biden has opposed offshore drilling and even compared offshore drilling to “raping” the Outer Continental Shelf.”
4. TROOP FUNDING: Joe Biden lied when he indicated that John McCain and Barack Obama voted the same way against funding the troops in the field. John McCain opposed a bill that included a timeline, which the President of the United States had already said he would veto regardless of its passage.
5. OPPOSING CLEAN COAL: Biden says he’s always been for clean coal, but he just told a voter that he is against clean coal and any new coal plants in America and has a record of voting against clean coal and coal in the U.S. Senate.
6. ALERNATIVE ENERGY VOTES: According to FactCheck.org, Biden is exaggerating and overstating John McCain’s record voting for alternative energy when he says he voted against it 23 times.
7. HEALTH INSURANCE: Biden falsely said McCain will raise taxes on people’s health insurance coverage — they get a tax credit to offset any tax hike. Independent fact checkers have confirmed this attack is false
8. OIL TAXES: Biden falsely said Palin supported a windfall profits tax in Alaska — she reformed the state tax and revenue system, it’s not a windfall profits tax.
9. AFGHANISTAN / GEN. McKiernan COMMENTS: Biden said that top military commander in Iraq said the principles of the surge could not be applied to Afghanistan; but the commander of NATO’s International Security Assistance Force Gen. David D McKiernan said that there were principles of the surge strategy, including working with tribes in Afghanistan could be applied.
10. REGULATION: Biden falsely said McCain weakened regulation — he actually called for more regulation on Fannie and Freddie.
11. IRAQ: When Joe Biden lied when he said that John McCain was “dead wrong on Iraq”, because Joe Biden shared the same vote to authorize the war and differed on the surge strategy where they John McCain has been proven right.
12. TAX INCREASES: Biden said Americans earning less than $250,000 wouldn’t see higher taxes, but the Obama-Biden tax plan would raise taxes on individuals making $200,000 or more.
13. BAILOUT: Biden said the economic rescue legislation matches the four principles that Obama laid out, but in reality it doesn’t meet two of the four principles that Obama outlined on Sept. 19, which were that it include an emergency economic stimulus package, and that it be part of “part of a globally coordinated effort with our partners in the G-20.”
14. REAGAN TAX RATES: Biden is wrong in saying that under Obama, Americans won’t pay any more in taxes then they did under Reagan.

sorenhawk: “Obama has both CEO’s for Freddie Mac & Fannie Mae on his election committee ”
And by the way, this is a lie unless you have an absurdly large definition of “election committee” to include about everyone in the greater Chicago Metro area. McCain is the one who has all the lobbiests running his campaign (including one who was getting a $15k per month payment from F right up to when they went under).

If you look at the hate speech that the democrats are involved in it underscores my point that we need a positive thinking tonic – oddly essentially Obama’s original message before his campaign went negative.
This break in at the Palin/McCain (I like that order) is an example of the democratic party notion that any means is acceptable and justified by their ends. Look at the hate speech even on this blog. That has all been endorsed by the media. That looks like the work of Hitler youth.
Obama came out and told people to “get in peoples face”. That is not the uplifting Obama we all signed up for.

Tori Bflo,NY:
“but McCain DID NOT VOTE THAT WAY.”
Yeah, he didn’t vote at all. You really want to bring up how he skipped about 60% of the votes last year? You have lost ANY right to flog that “Obama voted present 3% of the time he was in the IL senate!” line.
“Biden said, “Drill we must.” But Biden has opposed offshore drilling”
I oppose exercise. It hurts and wastes time. Doesn’t mean I don’t own a pair of worn running shoes.
“Joe Biden lied when he indicated that John McCain and Barack Obama voted the same way against funding the troops in the field. John McCain opposed a bill that included a timeline”
That is EXACTLY what Biden said and insinuated. John McCain voted against funding when he disagreed fundamentally with an attached admendment, exactly like Obama. Playing gotcha with votes may have worked with Kerry, but McCain is a senator too with his own record.
Factcheck.org has a good rundown of the debate (there’s a reason Cheney recommended them during his ’04 VP debate). I suggest people interested in reality check it out.
And while Biden is dinged about as many times as Palin, I would (partisanly) point out that Biden actually said many more verifiable statements as opposed to empty slogans.

Obama also got a very large interest decrease on his own home loan….are we understanding this yet. Obama at first stated he would raise taxes, now Biden states he won’t, Obama stated he was for gay marriages, Biden stated last night he is not. Obama stated that he would sit with officials in other countries without preconditions, but last night Biden stated he never said that. Listen to the debates, Obama and Biden lie to get votes. Try to go to Obama’s website, you can’t go to anything in it without having to make a contribution. In other words, in order to speak to him or any of his election committee YOU HAVE TO PAY FIRST! And you’re satisfied with this? You’re a Clinton supporter, right? I mean, I think I remember you saying that before.
What was it about Clinton you liked? If I understand her support, its not because she was just a woman, but because she was a woman who could talk intelligently about nearly any issue.
Whether you agreed with her positions or not, I think we all can agree she understood the issues.
Do you get that same sense from Palin?
Here’s a thought. What if Obama had picked Clinton, and McCain still picked Palin, and they were debating last night. Of course this is just an academic exercise in speculation, as McCain most likely would have picked a male if Obama was running with Clinton. But imagine that debate…
…Clinton, who unlike Biden wouldn’t have to worry about being too tough on the female opponent.
Do you really think she would let those non-sensical answers go without calling Palin on them?

However, some of us WANT our leaders to be ABOVE AVERAGE, to be some the SMARTEST individuals, to actually BE KNOWLEDGABLE about national and international policy. I guess that idea doesn’t register with you for some reason.
Reading from cue cards and pre-rehearsed speeches is fine, but it does not qualify one to lead the nation.
We certainly don’t need another person “you want to have a beer with”.
BUSH was that person. Someone (not me) voted that guy into office for the same reasons. Do you refuse to learn from past mistakes?

I am a Democrat, what was the GOP thinking when they picked McCain?? I have seen other Republicans who seem to be more on top of things, better understanding of the country, more likable…. why him?? I am confused.

Come on, HP. Biden was referring to the death of his wife and daughter, and near-death of his sons, at the time. And you really want to make this a talking point? And you seemingly do, feeling the need to repeat it at least once that I’ve seen.

————–
YES KAREN,
All media is now rigged. It’s a vast left wing conspiracy. Haven’t you heard?
Even FOX is now a leftist news network. Of course, we know every other media outlet in America is obviously “in the tank” for Obama.
Didn’t you see the incredible bias in the debate that we Pubs whined about all day yesterday? How dare they expect Gov Plain to answer the questions asked!
Obama has paid every single journalist in the United States to write only nice things about him.
It’s just so obvious to me! Get a clue will you. :)

Ifill’s performance does NOT prove she was objective nor free from making an unethical decision. None of us know what this clear Obama supporter did (or didn’t do) behind the scenes! For all we know her bias motivated her to give Biden a look at all her questions before the debate or she coached him on how to respond. We don’t know! But her objective performance does not prove that she was the right person for the job. She is an author of a book about one of the candidates and she purposefully withheld this information from the Debate Commission…she was the WRONG person…and we simply don’t know how her position of great power changed the dynamics of this debate!!

On 9/11, the VP had to take charge of the attack on America from the White House Bunker because the President was in Florida. The VP had to make decisions quickly, including the one to shoot our own commercial aircraft out of the sky if it had been hijacked.
In that situation – who do you want at the helm?
Biden – ALL THE WAY!

Standard McCain campaign: When confronted with obvious, easily refuted lies personally attack the speaker. A lot like a certain President whose handiwork I think we’ve all experienced…
What about these lies of Obama?
1.) Selma Got Me Born – LIAR, your parents felt safe enough to have you in 1961 – Selma had no effect on your birth, as Selma was in 1965.
2.) Father Was A Goat Herder – LIAR, he was a privileged, well educated youth, who went on to work with the Kenyan Government.
3.) Father Was A Proud Freedom Fighter – L IAR, he was part of one of the most corrupt and violent governments Kenya has ever had.
4.) My Family Has Strong Ties To African Freedom – LIAR, your cousin Raila Odinga has created mass violence in attempting to overturn a legitimate election in 2007, in Kenya. It is the first widespread violence in decades.
5.) My Grandmother Has Always Been A Christian – LIAR, she does her daily Salat prayers at 5am according to her own interviews. According to the New York Times: “I am a strong believer of the Islamic faith,” Ms. Obama, 85, said in a recent interview in Kenya.’ Not to mention, Christianity wouldn’t allow her to have been one of 14 wives to 1 man.
6.) My Name is African Swahili – LIAR, your name is Arabic and ‘Baraka’ (from which Barack came) means ‘blessed’ in that language. Hussein is also Arabic and so is Obama.
7.) I Never Practiced Islam – LIAR, you practiced it daily at school, where you were registered as a Muslim and kept that faith for 31 years, until your wife made you change, so you could run for office.
8.) My School In Indonesia Was Christian – LIAR, you were registered as Muslim there and got in trouble in Koranic Studies for making faces (check your own book).
9.) I Was Fluent In Indonesian – LIAR, not one teacher says you could speak the language.
10.) Because I Lived In Indonesia, I Have More Foreign Experience – LIAR, you were there from the ages of 6 to 10, and couldn’t even spea k the language. What did you learn, how to study the Koran and watch cartoons.
11.) I Am Stronger On Foreign Affairs – LIAR, except for Africa (surprise) and the Middle East (bigger surprise), you have never been anywhere else on the planet and thus have NO experience with our closest allies. You seek to disarm America while our avowed enemy, Iran, will not subject itself to a nuclear ban. Top Hamas politica l adviser Ahmed Yousef said the Hamas terrorist group ‘supports Obama’s foreign policy vision’.
12.) I Blame My Early Drug Use On Ethnic Confusion – LIAR, you were quite content in high school to be Barry Obama, no mention of Kenya and no mention of struggle to identify – your classmates said you were just fine.
13.) An Ebony Article Moved Me To Run For Office – LIAR, Ebony has yet to find the article you mention in your book. It doesn’t, and never did, exist.
14.) A Life Magazine Article Changed My Outlook On Life – LIAR, Life has yet to find the article you mention in your book. It doesn’t, and never did, exist.
15.) I Won’t Run On A National Ticket In ’08 – LIAR, here you are, despite saying, live on TV, that you would not have enough experience by then, and you are all about having experience first.
16.) Present Votes Are Common In Illinois – LIAR, they are common for YOU, but not many others have 130 NO VOTES.
17.) Oops, I Misvoted – LIAR, only when caught by church groups and Democrats, did you beg to change your misvote.
18.) I Was A Professor Of Law – LIAR, you were a senior lecturer ON LEAVE.
19.) I Was A Constitutional Lawyer – LIAR, you were a senior lecturer ON LEAVE.
20.) Without Me, There Would Be No Ethics Bill – LIAR, you didn’t write it,introduce it, change it, or create it.
21.) The Ethics Bill Was Hard To Pass – LIAR, it took just 14 days from start to finish.
22.) I Wrote
A Tough Nuclear Bill – LIAR, your bill was rejected by your own party for its pandering and lack of all regulation – mainly because of your Nuclear Donor, Exelon, from which David Axelrod came.
23.) I Have Released My State Records – LIAR, as of March, 2008, state bills you sponsored or voted for have yet to be released, exposing all the special interests pork hidden within.
24.) I Took On The Asbestos Altgeld Gardens Mess – LIAR, you were part of a large group of people who remedied Altgeld Gardens. You failed to mention anyone else but yourself, in your books.
25.) My Economics Bill Will Help America – LIAR, your 111 economic policies were just combined into a proposal which lost 99-0, and even YOU voted against your own bill.
26.) I Have Been A Bold Leader In Illinois – LIAR, even your own supporters claim to have not seen BOLD action on your part.
27.) I Passed 26 Of My Own Bills In One Year – LIAR, they were not YOUR bills, but rather handed to you, after their creation by a fellow Senator, to assist you in a future bid for higher office.
28.) No One Contacted Canada About NAFTA – LIAR, the Candian Government issued the names and a memo of the conversation your campaign had with them.
29.) I Am Tough On Terrorism – LIAR, you missed the Iran Resolution vote on terrorism and your good friend Ali Abunimah supports the destruction of Israel. You state you will open friendly communication with the Leader of Iran who is attempting to develop nuclear weapons to destroy us, but refuse to speak to FOX news. You are against provisions of the Patriot act which would all wiretapping of the phones of suspected terrorists in the USA.
30.) I Am Not Acting As President Yet – LIAR, after the NAFTA Memo, a dead terrorist in the FARC, in Colombia, was found with a letter stating how you and he were working together on getting FARC recognized officially.
31.) I Didn’t Run Ads In Florida – LIAR, you allowed national ads to run 8-12 times per day for two weeks – and you still lost.
32.) I Won Michigan – LIAR, no you didn’t.
33.) I won Nevada – LIAR, no you did not.
34.) I Want All Votes To Count – LIAR, you said let the delegates decide.
35.) I Want Americans To Decide – LIAR, you prefer caucuses that limit the vote, confuse the voters, force a public vote, and only operate during small windows of time.
36.) I passed 900 Bills in the State Senate – LIAR, you passed 26, most of which you didn’t write yourself.
37.) My Campaign Was Extorted By A Friend – LIAR, that friend is threatening to sue if you do not stop saying this. Obama has stopped saying this.
38.) I Believe In Fairness, Not Tactics – LIAR, you used tactics to eliminate Alice Palmer from running against you.
39.) I Don’t Take PAC Money – LIAR, you take loads of it.
40.) I don’t Have Lobbysists – LIAR, you have over 47 lobbyists, and counting.
41.) My Campaign Had Nothing To Do With The 1984 Ad – LIAR, your own campaign worker made the ad on his Apple in one afternoon.
42.) My Campaign Never Took Over MySpace – LIAR, Tom, who started MySpace issued a warning about this advertising to MySpace clients.
43.) I Inspire People With My Words – LIAR, you inspire people with other people’s words.
44.) I Have Passed Bills In The U.S. Senate – LIAR, you have passed A BILL in the U.S. Senate – for Africa, which shows YOUR priorities.
45.) I Have Always Been Against Iraq – LIAR, you weren’t in office to vote against it AND you have voted to fund it every single time, unlike Kucinich, who seems to be out gutting you Obama. You also seem to be stepping back from your departure date – AGAIN.
46.) I Have Always Supported Universal Health Care – LIAR, your plan leaves us all to pay the 15,000,000 who don’t have to buy it.
47.) I Only Found Out About My Investment Conflicts Via Mail – LIAR, both companies you site as having sent you letters about this conflict have no record of any such letter ever being created or sent.
48.) I Am As Patriotic As Anyone – LIAR, you won’t wear a flag pin and you don’t put your hand over your heart during the Anthem. There is a Cuban Flag with Che Guevara Displayed at Barack Obama Campaign Office which you allow to be displayed. You voted against making english the official language of the United States. You voted to give illegal aliens social security benefits, which would bankrupt the social security system for Americans legally paying into it.
49.) My Wife Didn’t Mean What She Said About Pride In Country – LIAR, your wife’s words follow lock-step in the vain of Rev. Wright and Louis Farrahkan, in relation to their contempt and hatred of America.
50.) Wal-Mart Is A Company I Wouldn’t Support – LIAR, your wife has received nearly a quarter of a million dollars through Treehouse, which is connected to Wal-Mart.

Alaska: Palin Inquiry Can Continue
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Published: October 2, 2008
A judge refused to block a state investigation into whether Gov. Sarah Palin abused her power when she fired her public safety commissioner this summer. The judge, Peter A. Michalski of Anchorage Superior Court, threw out a lawsuit filed by five Republican state legislators who said the investigation had been tainted by partisan politics and was being manipulated to damage Ms. Palin shortly before the Nov. 4 presidential election. “It is legitimately within the scope of the legislature’s investigatory power to inquire into the circumstances surrounding the termination” of a public officer the Legislature had previously confirmed, the judge wrote in his decision. The five lawmakers had argued that the legislative body that ordered the investigation had exceeded its authority.

Sorenhawk, just because you say it doesn’t make it true. How about some documented facts?
SARAH PALIN’S 18 DEBATE LIES
1. FANNIE MAE/FREDDIE MAC: Palin said “it was John McCain who pushed so hard with the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac reform measures,” but fact checkers say that’s “Quite A Stretch” And “Barely True,” and that McCain was a “latecomer” to the discussion.
2. FUNDAMENTALS ARE STRONG: Palin tried to say “John McCain saying our economy was strong” but McCain has used the phrase “The Fundamentals Of The Economy Are Strong” At Least 16 Times This Year.
3. PARTISAN POLITICS: Palin said McCain is “known for putting partisan politics aside to just get the job done,” but he has voted with Bush 90% of the time in the Senate and bragged about his support for Bush on important issues.
4. TAXES ATTACK: Palin repeated the attack that Obama voted for higher taxes 94 times, which the New York Times says is “false,” CNN says is “Misleading,” and FactCheck.org says is “inflated.”
5. TOBACCO REGULATION: Palin said to “look at the tobacco industry” as an example of McCain pushing for even harder and tougher regulations. But McCain opposed expanding the SCHIP children’s health insurance program for 5.8 million children because it would increase tobacco taxes.
6. SPENDING INCREASES: Palin said Obama is is proposing “nearly a trillion dollars in new spending,” but didn’t mention that he has also proposed cuts to balance it out, an attack CNN has already debunked as “misleading” and that ignores the far larger cost of McCain’s tax cuts and spending hikes.
7. HEALTH CARE: Palin claimed Obama’s health plan is “government run” which has been widely debunked as a “canard.”
8. HEALTH CARE. Palin says taxes wouldn’t go up under the McCain health care plan, a fact even his own campaign has acknowledged isn’t true.
9. TROOPS: Palin repeated what the AP called the “highly misleading” attack that Obama opposed funding for the troops, and Factcheck.org notes that the same methodology would lead to the same conclusion for McCain.
10. GLOBAL WARMING: Palin said “I don’t want to argue about the causes” for global warming, when she has clearly taken the position that she doesn’t not believe it is man-made.
11. MCCAIN IS CONSISTENT: Palin said McCain” doesn’t tell one thing to one group and then turns around and tells something else to another group,” when that is exactly what he has done on immigration, telling Hispanic leaders he was for comprehensive reform instead of the enforcement focused approach he has taken with conservatives.
12. MCCLELLAN NOT MCKIERNAN: Palin referred to the US commander in Afghanistan, David McKiernan as “McClellan.”
13. MCKIERNAN ON “SURGE:” Palin said that [McKiernan] did not say a surge wouldn’t work in Afghanistan, when just yesterday he said “The word I don’t use for Afghanistan is ‘surge,’ ” McKiernan stressed, saying that what is required is a “sustained commitment” to a counterinsurgency effort that could last many years and would ultimately require a political, not military, solution
14. KILLING CIVILIANS. Palin said “Obama had said that all we’re doing in Afghanistan is air raiding villages and killing civilians and such a reckless, reckless comment and untrue comment again hurts our cause. That’s not what we are doing there.” Unfortunately, the Associated Press says that Obama was right in discussing a critically important point about avoiding civilian casualties.
15. TEACHING: Palin said we need to make sure “that education in either one of our agendas, I think, absolute top of the line,” when McCain has repeatedly favored tax cuts for the wealthy over funds for more teachers and class size reduction.
16. PARTISAN APPOINTMENTS: Palin said “You do what I did as governor. And you appoint people regardless of party affiliation. Democrats, independents, Republicans, you walk the walk, don’t just talk the talk” when she repeatedly appointed friends and supporters to positions for which they weren’t qualified.
17. FOCUS ON CLIMATE CHANGE: Palin falsely claimed that she was the first governor to form a climate change subcabinet, when at least 28 states had already taken action.
18. DARFUR DIVESTMENT: Palin claimed that “when I and others” found out that the state had money invested in Sudan that “we called for divestment,” when the reality is that Palin’s appointees worked to kill a Darfur divestment plan.

Dear Federal Election Committee,
What is being done in terms of an investigation that Andy Martin asked of the Attorney General Michael Mukasey, Chicago U. S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald and the Chicago FBI yesterday? He is asking for a criminal investigation into Senator Barack Obama’s nearly quarter billion dollar hoard of clandestine campaign cash. If the cash hoard is legal, we have a right to know. If the cash is tainted or even criminal, we also have a right to know, before the election, not afterwards. The American People should not have a ‘pig in a poke’ to vote for on November 4th.
A Newsmax review of the Obama campaign finance filings found that the FEC had asked for the redesignation or refund of 53,828 donations, totaling just under $30 million.
But none involves the donors who never appear in the Obama campaign reports, which the [Center for Responsive Politics] estimates at nearly half the $426.8 million the Obama campaign has raised to date.
The analyst, who declines to be identified for fear of retribution, says that on four different occasions in the past three months, he sought to open formal investigations into the Obama campaign’s fundraising techniques, but those investigations have been discouraged….
“Without formal approval, I can’t get the resources I need, manpower, that kind of thing. This is a huge undertaking.” And the analyst says that he believes that campaign finance violations have occurred…
Why are the FEC, the DOJ, and FBI Covering for the Obama Campaign?
They have a duty to the tax-payers to investigate NOW.

This is well said:
“Who could vote for this guy – - It’s O.K. to be liberal but that doesn’t mean you are stupid – - ”
Leave it to a pilot to summarize the situation concerning B. Obama in a few choice words.
A PILOTS PERSPECTIVE OF OBAMA
,,,,,,,,,,DO I HAVE THIS STRAIGHT?
HIS FATHER WAS A BLACK AFRICAN-ARAB-MUSLIM FROM KENYA . WE HAVE SEEN PICTURES OF HIS AFRICAN FAMILY
HIS MOTHER WAS A WHITE AMERICAN ATHEIST FROM KANSAS .
WHERE ARE THE PICTURES OF HIS AMERICAN FAMILY?
HIS FATHER DESERTED HIS MOTHER WHEN HE WAS ONLY TWO YEARS OLD AND WENT BACK TO AFRICA BY WAY OF HARVARD UNIVERSITY . HOW? WAS HIS FATHER WEALTHY?
HIS MOTHER MARRIED AN INDONESIAN MUSLIM AND THEN MOVED TO JAKARTA WHERE HE WAS ENROLLED IN A MUSLIM SCHOOL .
WHEN HE REACHED HIGH SCHOOL AGE HIS MOTHER SENT HIM TO HAWAII TO BE WITH HIS WHITE GRANDPARENTS AND HE WAS PUT INTO AN EXPENSIVE PRIVATE SCHOOL. HE LATER WENT TO HARVARD UNIVERSITY . HOW? WERE HIS GRANDPARENTS WEALTHY?
HE LIVES IN A $14 MILLION HOUSE OBTAINED THROUGH A DEAL WITH A WEALTHY FUND-RAISER. HOW?
HE ‘WORKED’ AS A CIVIL RIGHTS ACTIVIST IN CHICAGO . HE HAS NEVER HELD A PRODUCTIVE JOB OR RECEIVED A PAY CHECK THAT WAS NOT GOVERNMENT-FUNDED AND/OR TAXPAYER SUPPORTED. THE PRESIDENCY IS NOT A CIVIL RIGHTS POSITION, NOR IS IT SUBJECT TO AFFIRMATIVE ACTION SET ASIDES; ON-THE-JOB TRAINING WON’T CUT IT.
HE ENTERED POLITICS AT THE STATE LEVEL AND THEN THE NATIONAL LEVEL WHERE HE HAS MINIMAL EXPERIENCE.
HE IS PROUD OF HIS AFRICAN HERITAGE’ (A FATHER WHO GOT A WHITE GIRL PREGNANT AND DESERTED HER).
WHERE IS THE PRIDE IN HIS ‘WHITE HERITAGE’? (A MOTHER WHO FLAUNTED CONVENTION AND DID NOT BELIEVE IN GOD).
SOME MIGHT THINK THERE WAS NOT MUCH TO BE PROUD OF EITHER WAY.
HE BELONGS, AND HAS BELONGED FOR OVER 20 YEARS, TO AN ‘AFRO-CENTRIC’ CHURCH IN CHICAGO THAT HATES WHITES, HATES JEWS, AND BLAMES AMERICA FOR ALL THE WORLD’S PERCEIVED FAULTS. (INCLUDING CREATING THE AIDS VIRUS IN ORDER TO INFLICT IT ON AFRICANS).
HE REPEATEDLY WHITEWASHES THE PASTOR, HIS CHURCH AND THE MEMBERS WHO CHEERED AFTER HEARING VITRIOLIC TIRADES AGAINST AMERICA . HE COULD NOT CONFRONT HIS PASTOR BUT HE WANTS US TO BELIEVE HE CAN CONFRONT NORTH KOREA AND IRAN ?
DURING HIS VERY BRIEF TIME IN THE UNITED STATES SENATE HE HAS MANAGED TO AMASS THE NUMBER ONE ……..ULTRA LIBERAL……VOTING RECORD OUT OF THE ONE HUNDRED MEMBERS.
HE HAS VOTED CONSISTENTLY FOR BIGGER GOVERNMENT AND HIGHER TAXES. HE HAS VOTED FOR BIG ENTITLEMENTS AND LEGISLATION THAT WOULD SEVERELY CURTAIL AMERICA ‘S ABILITY TO FIGHT TERRORISM AND TO PROTECT OUR BORDERS AND OUR NATIONAL INTERESTS AROUND THE WORLD.
BUT, HE IS A GOOD ORATOR. ISN’T THAT A COMFORT?
YEAH, I THINK I SEE HOW WELL HE COULD UNITE THE COUNTRY.
I THINK THE TRUTH IS THAT HE HOPES NO ONE WILL PUT THE PIECES TOGETHER!
PILOT’S ANALYSIS:
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN,
LET ME INTRODUCE YOU TO OUR NEW CHIEF PILOT.
HE HAS NEVER FLOWN AN AIRPLANE, IN FACT HE HAS NEVER EVEN SAT IN THE COCKPIT, BUT HE SAYS HE HAS RIDDEN ON PLANES BEFORE.
HE KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT RADAR, OR HOW TO START THE ENGINES, OR HOW TO STOP THEM, OR ANYTHING ABOUT ALL THESE GADGETS, BUT WE ARE SURE HE WILL GUIDE US SAFELY THROUGH THE STORMS WE MAY ENCOUNTER ON THIS FLIGHT BECAUSE HE TOLD US HE COULD DO IT (And.. he is a great speaker!)
CONCLUSIONS:
WHAT ARE WE THINKING?
THINK LONG AND HARD BEFORE YOU VOTE.
What a great slogan:
‘My friends, we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world.
I hope you’ll join with me as we try to change it.’ (B. Obama)
IF THIS DOESN’T WORRY YOU……FORGET THAT I MENTIONED IT.

Paige Biden is a cry baby, I can not count the times He has embarrassed himself IT HAS BEEN YEARS!! He is smooth talking politician and I fault him for his corny theatrics. I used to tear up with him but come on…..
Yes I lost my dad when he was only 45 and my Mom, she was only 56 and my 23 year old sister….only one miscarriage if you care. I don’t whimper about it after 20 years!

“MOTHER OF ALL GAFFES”
Rick Moran of Right Wing Nut House has followed the wars in Lebanon more closely than most bloggers, and Joe Biden’s assertion that the US and France “kicked Hezbollah out of Lebanon” has him gasping for breath. Calling it “completely insane”, Rick deconstructs the rest of the answer on this question to seriously challenge whatever credentials Biden claims on foreign policy.

How did Palin get “style” points and why does “style” matter as a matter of news? Palin, for some reason, gets style points for speaking in a condescendingly rude manner to her opponent who is a statesman and who acted like a statesman. She embarrasses me as an American and I hope we don’t end up with her speaking for us on the world stage.

Palin isn’t running for the PTA or some other local office, she is running for the Vice President of the United States. Yet to watch the commentators on T.V. you are led to believe that because she didn’t dissolve into a blithering ill informed idiot, she did well. The reality is she didn’t have substantive answers to those questions she actually answered. Did anyone else notice that she appeared not to know the meaning of the phrase “Achilles heel”?

She sold herself very well except the fact that she was supposed to be selling the other guy (ragged McCain). She had no time for McCain. But what really interested me were the winks, I loved them. Vote for McCain/Palin and in 2012 the ticket will be Palin/Paris Hilton…Paris can connect right. I loved her ad response to McCain, she knew her energy policy right??? OBAMA IS THE “GOLDEN BOY” SELECTED BY THE DNC AND BIASED MEDIA.
I watched the debate between Governor Palin (5 weeks of national debate experience) versus Senator Biden (35 years of national debate experience).
Obviously, she is a quick study. Just imagine what she will be like after four years as vice president! She has been a Mayor and a Governor. She is more qualified than anyone running.
John McCain showed great judgment in choosing her.
It’s too bad the DNC and biased media didn’t “select” Biden or Hillary. OBAMA HAS BASED HIS ENTIRE CAMPAIGN ON LIES. HE HAS TOO MANY TIES TO TERRORISTS AND ANTI-AMERICANS. DON’T FORGET “God Damn America” JEREMIAH WRIGHT, PFLEGER, FARRAKHAN, AYERS, REZKO (TO NAME A FEW). BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA IS A DANGER TO OUR COUNTRY. Obama’s ties to organizations like “ACORN” caused much of the country’s mortgage foreclosure issues. ACORN IS UNDER INVESTIGATION FOR “VOTER FRAUD” IN MANY STATES! Obama is a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
I’m voting for the Honorable John McCain in November.

And now this whole “If we say something, we really meant something else” is reaaally out of hand. I thought it was an embarrasing, yet necessary “band-aid” but they’ve truly made it into a Campaign STAPLE!
OK HERE! I believe Obama was speaking to an audience of ADULTS and din’t realize that he needed to puree and liquify his words so that McDaddy and his androids could discern them. OBVIOUSLY no president will UNCONDITIONALLY sit with nations that possibly harbor terrorists (such as our own? hah! you don’t say? so you mean the KKK is a group of terrorists! well I’ll be darned tootin’!) HE SAID WITHOUT PRE-CONDITIONS (Preconditions example similar to given by Obama: We won’t talk to you until you remove your military occupation from Gaza!) That’s a straight dumbass pre-condition. AND OF COURSE it would not be THE PRESIDENT! why doesn’t Senator McCain know that we have members of a cabinet that um, DO THAT FOR A LIVING?? of course he does! but he things WE ARE STUPID.

Palin “delivered” the same false talking points she and John McCain use in their speeches.
Despite the fact that Palin came off more polished, it’s too late for her to be taken seriously by anyone. The entire country has seen her bumbling interviews. The entire country knows she was in debate camp learning what to say for the last week and don’t take her seriously. The fact checking has already been done and the country already knows her lies by heart.
She continues to insult women with her hockey mom stereotype that many women find offensive, she still does not appear knowledgable on any issues she is clearly repeating what she learned at camp. She refused to answer the questions asked and announced she would only do filtered interviews.
Palin cleary lost the debate, but she did regain some composure. Unfortunately it’s to late for McCain & Co….the cat’s already been out of the bag on Sarah Palin for awhile now.
Firing up the base while sending the rest of the country running isn’t going to win McCain the election. McCain made a very poor VP choice and America knows it. Palin reiterated that at the debate.

No matter what. Let’s count for the idiots like Obama.
1. the vote is communism or freedom. freedom isn’t always the most comfortable path.
2. liars versus truth, liars can answer anything at any time, truth speakers don’t always have that luxury. Think about your own personal experiences.
3. If Obama fails, in his possible presidency, (and all the truth about him does come out, ) this is the worst thing that could happen to race relations in the U.S. Simply put, we’re not ready for this. He is too risky. I wish we could back track in time, and have Barbara Jordan as our democratic voice and candidate:
A black “american” women. 100% baptist no doubt. Not funded by the Bidebergers and crazy Soros! Many years of experience in the Senate.
Blind to race, did not call herself an African American, but an American.
quote:
And now we must look to the future. Let us heed the voice of the people and recognize their common sense. If we do not, we not only blaspheme our political heritage, we ignore the common ties that bind all Americans.
Many fear the future, Many are distrustful of their leaders, and believe that their voices are never heard. Many seek only to satisfy their private work wants. To satisfy private interests.
(free healthcare, we want to “surrender” the war on terrorism” So more money can be spent on “us, us, us”)
But this is the great danger America faces. That we will cease to be one nation and become instead a collection of ( interest groups:) (bildebers and Soros) city against suburb, region against region, individual against individual. Each seeking to satisfy private wants.
If that happens, who then will speak for America?
Who then will speak for the common good?
This is the question which must be answered in 1976. (and now and forever)
Are we to be one people bound together by common spirit sharing in a common endeavor or will we become a divided nation? (under Barack Hussein Obama, we will)
For all of its uncertainty, we cannot flee the future. We must not become the new puritans and reject our society. We must address and master the future together. It can be done if we restore the belief that we share a sense of national community, that we share a common national endeavor. It can be done.
There is no executive order; there is no law that can require the American people to form a national community. This we must do as individuals and if we do it as individuals, there is no President of the United States who can veto that decision. (end quote.)
(as a registered democrat. she would have gotten my vote:) Now I am a democrate, voting for McCain/Palin. Because if anyone “embues”
true democracy, it is McCain.
4. President of the United States:
a. Commander in Chief (of the Military)
b. approves or vetos bills/proposed by Congress.
equals (experience) to both of the above…..
Think about it!
5. The American people. Do we want to owned by our government? I don’t. Yes, we have the power to “Boycott”. We have the power to “fight” for what we believe in. We can “create a national community”
6. Once we “over-turned” the “rule” of King George. England, the mightiest power at that time in the world. What happened to us?
Too much listening to the media? Not enough history?
We want free “government” control health care.
When will we learn, that nothing is free. And freedom comes at a great cost.
How many SUV’s do we need?
How many Video games do we need?
How many Walmarts and cheap clothing made in China that falls apart at the seams do we need?
How many times are we going to “kill” babies, when birth control is so accessible?
How many $5 latte’s are we going to buy when we complain about the high price of gas?
What happened to the modest American home?
I’m supposed to feel sorry for someone who bought a $345,000 dollar home with 3 SUV;s outside the door?
America, Americans, (Black, White, Asian, Middle-eastern, Irish, English, German, Polish,
Jewish, Latino, Hispanic, Spanish, French,
and everyone is our enormous and God blessed melting pot, please “buck” up. Vote for the Maverick of “true” change.

What’s so offensive about Hockey Mom?
The honesty about it?
Let’s try some others shall we?
Soccer Mom
Indie Film Maker Mom
Soldier Mom
Working Mom
Childless professional Working Woman
Football Mom
Welfare Mom
“Whitey” hating Mom.
Adopting Mom
Doctor Mom
Lawyer Mom
Waitress Mom
Crack Cocaine Mom
Rich Mom
Poor Mom
Fat Mom
Thin Mom
Which kind of Mom you serve your particular interests?
Come on? Do women in the year 2008 have to look like a man? Have a “butch” hair cut? Speak like dictator? ala Clinton? Have ridden her husband’s coat tails to the top? Sleep to the top?
Or would we not criticize Sarah/Palin if she was “black” “hispanic”, eastern seaboard polished, a man, not a mom, asian, jewish, or erudite, high brow and aloof? Should she have worn a man’s suit? and flat simple shoes? How about a Hillary “pant” suit? Would we like her better is she looked like Meir, Walters, Clinton, Albright, Thatcher, Oprah?
She is 100% of what she is! Perhaps we “amercans” can’t handle that these days? Again, we want someone to “fit’ in our own little “niche”.
Today, would we have like Abrahams LIncoln’s look, his poor past?
Could we have looked past Roosevelts, handicap? Jefferson’s wealth? Kennedy’s wealth, philandering, and drug addiction?
Washington’s lack luster, but military genius?
I doubt it. It seems what we want is elusive, evasive Rock Star president back by some of america’s and foreigner’s greatest wealth. Yes, we want a media puppet. Who will bend and sway which ever way the wind blows and whichever way he is told.
Myself, I’m not a hockey mom. Quite honestly, I fought many years, because I was an artist who grew up as a “hockey” daughter, nothing grated me more than rah, rah, sports fanatics.
But I grew up!
But what I embrace about Palin, and anyone is the “truth”. I ask, Is her hate filled “senior” thesis” being locked away at her university? I don’t think so!
So what’s to hate about Hockey Mom?
Maybe it’s what you hate about yourself.Get over it. She is a shining example of a true American Women.
Gee, maybe is she was “something” else, more suited to our personal agendas” we’d like her better. Sounds a little shallow doesn’t it?
The Art of War! equals “Divide and Conquer”.
That’s the only war Obama-ites can win!

Do you actually want her for first lady.. she has no track history of being patriotic. Any lawyer serving inner cities are to be applaud but their is no distinction in what she is doing- she has not given her millions away has she..
I think their should be a debate between Michele and McCain’s wife.

Considering how low the bar was set for Palin in the debate, I suppose her scripted responses did no harm, but nor did they address either the questions asked or her lack of fitness for the office (can’t name a magazine she’s read or a Supreme Court case she disagrees with other than Roe v Wade? Come on. Here’s a hint: How about Brown v Board of Education, for one?) The cuteness is calculated and inappropriate for even the vice presidency. Every rehearsed sentence she utters sounds like she’s running for Miss America, not VP. She is an irresponsible choice and it reflects very poorly on McCain’s judgment. On the other hand, Biden addressed the questions with substance and was the embodiment of a responsible choice for vice president–someone with a firm grasp of the job, its limits, and the issues.

NEEDEDINFO–you forgot to mention that “this really happened to a friend of mine in California” and “forward to at least 10 people you know!” Oh, and “tax and spend democrats”. What is it with you neocons and name-calling and glittering generalities? The world isn’t black and white, it’s many shades of gray. The thought seems to be if you keep attacking, you can defeat all reason with FUD.

yep, and then we’ve got his kids swinging on the chandeliers in the White House, while he’s doing coke and sneaking cigs in the bathroom before a meeting. And the revival of affirmitive action, slave reparations and all kinds of horrors.

Ann, could it be that the poll on Fox News was inaccurate…they aren’t called Fix News for nothing.

Based on John McCain’s reaction to Governor Palin’s “debate” he is going to have a coronary if she has a Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction or if she winks at him. Unh, unh??? Then she will be the president of the United States and Todd will be the first dud.

To needed info:
Could you boil that down to one million words or less? You rant and rave like a GWB republican. Face it—-John McCain is a white elephant. He’s running on something that happened years ago–there you go again Joe, thinking in the past.

I have a question for Democrats/Obama supporters: The Democrats say all of the economic problems (well, all of the problems in this country) are due to the Bush Administration and Republicans. However, Democrats have been the majority for more than two years.
Therefore, it seems to me that either:
(a) If the Republicans/Bush are totally to blame, Democrats in Congress haven’t been doing anything; or
(b) It’s not just one person/parties’ fault, and all share in the failures in our government.
You can’t have it both ways.
While the partisan sniping goes on here and between the candidates(which is a real turnoff to those of us who want to put our country before a political party), I will say that only one ticket has taken any responsibility – John McCain and Sarah Palin. John McCain has said several times “we” failed you and I do get the sense he and Palin really would work to cross the aisle and at least try to stop this destructive partisanship.
Obama is so closely tied to Pelosi and Reid – it’s clear from their behavior they won’t do that. How will things change if that’s the case?
Just a thought…
