The Note: Palin Well-Dressed — but Not Wearing as Well

ABC News’ Rick Klein reports in Wednesday’s Note:

A lucky 13 days out, we’re wondering:

Do the votes in real America count differently than those in fake America?

Where do real Americans shop?

Is it better for Team McCain to waste time and money on Pennsylvania, or to waste whatever enthusiasm would vanish if the GOP wasn’t playing offense anywhere?

Will bashing the media win John McCain a single, real-life vote he wouldn’t have already gotten?

Read the rest of The Note — and get all the latest on the 2008 election, Congress, the White House and the wide world of politics every day — from Rick Klein by bookmarking this link.

Is it patriotic to question your opponents’ patriotism?

Does McCain have one long ball left in him? (One that has nothing whatsoever to do with “Joe the Plumber”?)

Does a long plane trip to Hawaii by Barack Obama freeze the race in place, or allow someone to drive a new message?

Does the fact that Sarah Palin is now the most accessible of the four candidates change anything at all?

It might, actually, but Palin has gone full circle in her brief time on the national landscape — and the recent attempts at definition have gone about as well as that bridge we used to hear so much about.

She continues to get huge crowds, though the big headlines she’s getting are not for the right reasons. She influencing voters — but not in the way McCain expected when he shook up the race by plucking her from obscurity. (Ask Colin Powell.)

Neither running mate has done his or her ticket many favors in recent days. And Palin — buttoned up for so long, might have been better off staying that way (albeit with nicer buttons these days).

Not where she needs to be going: “Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin apologized yesterday for implying that some parts of the country are more American than others, even as similar comments by two Republican congressmen were causing a backlash that threatened their chances for reelection,” per The Washington Post’s Lyndsey Layton.

DEAR ABC: If you reported fairly and accurately on both sides of the campaign, perhaps the public would not have such a skewed and unflattering view of Gov. Palin. It is really a shame. Biden is a total joke and he is never held to account. Just ask Drew Griffen of CNN who laughingly agreed with Palin when she called him out on the bias to his face. But of course, that will not be reported.

GRIFFIN: Does Joe Biden get a pass?
PALIN: You need to ask your colleagues and I guess your bosses or whoever is in charge of all this, why does Joe Biden get the pass on such a thing? Can you imagine if I would have said such a thing? No, I think that you know we would be hounded and held accountable for — what in the world did you mean by that, VP, presidential candidate? Why would you say that, that mark my words, this nation will undergo international crisis if you elect Barack Obama?
If I would have said that, you guys would have clobbered me.
GRIFFIN: You’re right. You’re right.

Palin was not a good pick. period. She should stay away for interviews – I know we need a laugh sometimes but she keeps digging the hole deeper. The fact that she can’t explain questions is just horrible. We can not afford this again. Bush is much smarter than Palin will ever be! period.

I don’t understand what you reporters want. Complain she is not available, now is too available. Why do you focus so much on her, because she is the easiest one to pick on. I saw the interview she did with CNN, I think she is great. Image if she has 20 months of time like Obama to campaign, she is better than him.

Her interviews were incredibly awful! She comes across as lacking in knowledge!

She is also in way over her head and does not seem to realize it. She is woefull unqualified to run anything except maybe Alaska. SHe has no clue as to how the federal govt works. The liberals have infiltrated the media.
From Keith Oberman to Rachael Madcow, George Steponallofus to Katie Couric, Charlie Gibson to Chris Mathews, Brian Williams to David Gregory, Helen Thomas to Martha Raditz…
Need I go on?
The media got spanked two elections in a row. They (all but FOX) got a plate of crow when they called Florida for Gore and started their victory dance. Then they got beat again with their “statesman” candidate Kerry.
They vowed that in this next election that they would get the democrat elected, no matter who that was or who was running on the republican ticket.
I would like an interview with Barack Obama and Joe Biden. Of course I will have to edit that to fit a time slot. I bet I could edit it to make either of them be whatever I wanted them to be including a pathetic speaker unsure of himself and very unAmerican.
How about an interview Obama?

Posted by: "V" | October 22, 2008, 9:53 am 9:53 am

Governor Palin has more executive experience than Obama, period. The media has been a joke in this campaign and it’s sad that most young people, the majority who are voting for Obama, don’t even understand that his tax policies will come back to bite them in the butt. Without them paying into the system heavily, he cannot finance his lofty goals.

Can anybody name Obama’s qualifications for being president? He has been in the Senate for 3 years and spent 2 of those years running for president. At least Palin is running for vice president and will have time to learn. Has Obama ever proposed anything that is of any importance that has been passed? I think he is in way over his head and doesn’t know it, but if elected we will find out the hard way

Posted by: Danny | October 22, 2008, 9:56 am 9:56 am

As all of you far left radicals bask in the glow of your new MESSIAH, I want you to remember the following:
1) Regardless of what Obama is currently saying we ALL will see our payroll taxes go up, a new 45% death tax, a reduction in deductions, a temporary ONE YEAR $1500 tax break, NOT A CUT. (For proof, please check out Barney Franks comments. He said forget the deficit, we can grow it now with massive NEW spending, then tax folks more later on to make up for it.)
2) Sen. Biden states and PROMISES that Obama will be tested by an International incident, maybe an attack on American soil, maybe Iran on Israel… And Biden says, not knowing it was being recorded, that WE WILL NEED YOUR SUPPORT BECAUSE PEOPLE WILL NOT LIKE THE RESPONSE FROM OBAMA! What does that mean? Will he allow our security to be dictated by the U.N.? We Israel be attacked and we just “watch it happen”? Why very little MSM coverage? ABC, NBC, CBS and CNN did NOT even report Biden’s comments on their news… DOES ANYONE on this site believe that Palin would have gotten the same pass? Dan Rather, a far left lib, even said that the MSM was in the tank for Obama and this story is huge and should have gotten coverage and demanded answers to what exactly Biden said.
3) And remember my Liberal friends, when the “fairness doctrine” is imposed Conservative Talk Radio will be dead, and freedom of speech, which even most Democrats believe in, will have been eroded. Maybe some rights that you Democrats find important will be the next in line to go. Maybe guns and some Liberals do hunt. Maybe freedom to assemble and we know how Libs love to demonstrate. The little children’s choirs singing praises to THE LEADER are just the beginning. Obama plans to “Change the World”, but he has a very divided Country and 44% of us do not trust him to protect America, American values nor Freedom of Speech.
I wish you all well with your Messiah, I for one, along with 44% of the Americans that still have PRIDE and RESPECT for America will be praying that it’s not the end of a wonderful Country.

The problem everyone is having with her is this notion that she is some great “maverick” leader who is just like most women in America. The fact is that she does not have the necessary educated knowledge of most subjects that are needed to run the country. She has proven this time and time again. It’s the GOP’s fault for throwing her into this role without a plan. She is obviously successful and by all accounts a great mom. But not a VP.

ANOTHER PERFECT EXAMPLE OF THE FAR LEFT MEDIA BIAS THAT HAS DISTORTED OBAMA TO MESSIAH STATUS AND HAS DRIVEN REAL AMERICANS INTO MORE AND MORE DISTRUST AND HATRED FOR THE MSM, ABC, NBC, CNN, MSNBC, CNN should lokk at THIER OWN POLLS, they love to cram them in our face when Obama has 10 point leads, but refuse to SHOW THE NUMBERS when Americans are asked about trust in fairness of the MSM, most Mareicans, EVEN LIBERALS, believe that the MSM is in the TANK for OBAMA! So continue to lie to yourself ABC and the other MSM, you day is comming too…
Former CBS anchorman Dan Rather says there is a huge double-standard in the media when it comes to coverage the Barack Obama campaign receives, which is clearly made evident in the lack of scrutiny given to comments Obama’s vice presidential running mate Sen. Joe Biden made earlier this week.
On Sunday, Biden said that electing Obama president will generate “an international crisis” within the first six months of his new administration because America’s enemies will want to test Obama.
“Watch — we’re gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy,” Biden assured. “I don’t know what the decision is going to be, but I promise you it will occur. As a student of history, and having served with seven presidents, I guarantee you it is going to happen.”
Rather, speaking today on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” cable program, told host Joe Scarborough that if Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin had said such a thing about her running mate John McCain, it would be “the top story in every major American paper and on every network.”
Rather says the Obama campaign “can’t be happy” about Biden’s comments and is surprised there haven’t been more political ramifications to Biden’s gaffe.
“Certainly if Sarah Palin had said this, it would be above the fold in most newspapers today,” Rather said. “But let me point out that what happens on the Internet may be as important, or more important, than what’s happening in newspapers,” he added, referring to the spotty mainstream media coverage.
“I’ll be surprised if this doesn’t have a run on the Internet, because if Sarah Palin had said this, the newspapers would have jumped all over it, and so would the major television outlets.”

Rick Klein is an obviously biased reporter who exhibits time and again he attempts to influence the news rather than reporting it fairly. I may be wrong but it seemed that the most balanced reporter ABC ever had was Peter Jennings and we miss him. Klein wouldn’t be fit to tie Jennings’ shoes! The sad part is that anyone who thinks that Obama/Biden or McCain/Palin will straighten out this corrupt country and its congress is a fool.

Experience does not matter to the supporters of the One.
He took a field trip over to the Middle East for the first time in his life to gain his foreign policy he needed. Now he is a pro and certainly qualified.
Obama was a community organizer. That alone is the best experience a person could have.
So what does qualify Obama to be President, it depends who you ask. Blacks have been asked that very question and their answer is disgusting, “he’s black”.

She can’t even get what the Vice President does correct. She did it again yesterday, including the part about expanding the Vice Presidents job. She has shown she has no understanding or the branches of the government and that the Executive Branch does not get to cross over into the Legislative Branch at will and make “good laws” with the senators.

Every US immigrant who came from a communist country/dictatorship (and are US Citizens and planning to vote) should be APPALLED, since many came here to escape from that kind of suppression.

Kool-Aid Nation,
Deride the Governor’s experience all you want. Only highlights the laughability of the candidate the Democratic party has put on the TOP of their ticket. The Governor of Alaska is an executive position, as is the Presidency of the United States. Gaining approval on a $40billion pipeline project, is, to those with a brain, far more impressive then advising ACORN losers on how to bully banks into making home loans to those the can’t afford to keep current on their mortgage.
Of course I am being harsh on the junior senator from Illinois, he was afterall subsequently in the Illinois legislature (not an executive position) and the U.S. Senate for a hundred some odd days. What did he accomplish? Did he change anything we can believe in? You’d have to force the kool-aid down my throat, but even if you were able to do so, I’d still laugh at his record of experience. ZERO. Go back to the Senate and accomplish something Senator. Your candidacy is a disgrace to democracy.
of, I forgot that Mr. Gibson’s Democrat News Network wanted us to talk about the Governor’s wardrobe. Bad judgment in my opinion. But, here is the something to watch for tonight; watch and see if Charlie, or Katie ‘Eva Braun’ Couric for that matter, bothers to mention that the wardrobe will be auctioned off and the proceeds will be given to charity; wealth redistribution. You all like that right? I can guarantee you, it will not be covered, not a chance, it would after all be a media plus for the McCain campaign, that the MSM doesn’t do that!

Pol Radar: “Is it better for Team McCain to waste time and money on Pennsylvania, or to waste whatever enthusiasm would vanish if the GOP wasn’t playing offense anywhere?”
That comment doesn’t seem to reflect an understanding of the electoral map.
As much of a stretch as it is, McCain needs at least 20 electors from blue state(s).
Pennsylvania is double digits, but it seems to be the only thing big enough that the McCain campaign even thinks is possible.
You have to understand, the McCain campaign is acknowledging that at least 21 electors from red states are going away. Those are Colorado, New Mexico and Iowa. An unattributed staffer told Politico those states are “gone.”
So McCain has to make that back, and hold everything else that was red four years ago.
He has to win Pennsylvania, Virginia, Florida, Ohio, Missouri, Nevada and North Carolina.
He’s not in Pennsylvania to impress anyone with his ability to play offense. He’s in Pennsylvania because he has no choice, other than conceding the election now.

“With all of the important issues facing the country right now, it’s remarkable that we’re spending time talking about pantsuits and blouses.” Palin spokeswoman Tracey Schmitt said in a statement.
Schmitt continued that our focus should shift to how big Michelle Obama’s bum is… a clear indication that Mrs. Obama was a terrorist: ‘it has been widely proved that women with rather large rear ends have more terrorist tendencies than, say, white petite, blondish women. I mean think about it; SHE COULD SIT ON YOUR CHILDREN!”
Schmitt emphazised that Mrs. & Mr. Obama have yet failed to bring up any records or documentation proving that they are not pedophiles or that they have still not been able to prove that they intend to murder all of our children.

If Obama wins this election it will not be on his own merits, it will be because the media (both newspaper and telivision) have protected him, covered for him, left out important facts about him they don’t want revealed, all the while dragging McCain and Palin unfairly through the mud. This is such unfair reporting by the media, everybody knows it and yet nothing can be done about it. So sad. If the media would do thier REAL job by reporting the facts, instead of campaining for Obama, McCain would be winning by a landslide on his own merits, his proven experience, and on the much better direction he would move this country in. It is so obvious who the better leader would be and that is certainly NOT OBAMA but the media will continue to shame themselves to the very end in order to win this election for him. But I am confident that when people actually go in to vote in private, without the risk of being labled a “racist”, they will do the right thing and vote for McCain/Palin. McCain/Palin ’08!!!!

Well, if you bothered to stop bashing the media, anyone supporting Obama, and Obama himself long enough to actually research actual truths–not hysterical lies and smears–you might be very surprised: http://www.fightthesmears.com The fact that you can actually support McCain and his paper tiger, Palin, with blind faith after 8 years of Bush says it all…ignorance is bliss: http://www.factcheck.org Get ready–Obama is going to win this election…and the rest of the world is going to finally start believing in the US and its voters again.

LoveAmerica: “If Obama wins this election it will not be on his own merits, it will be because the media (both newspaper and telivision) have protected him, covered for him, left out important facts about him…”
What exactly has been left out? I’ve seen coverage of Wright (ad nauseum), Ayers (nearing ad nauseum), Rezko, smoking, madrassas, celebrity contacts, present votes, not accepting public financing, accusations he couldn’t handle 3 a.m. phone calls, race baiting…
I even know which two elementary schools he attended in a foreign country, which is a lot more detail than I think I’ve ever heard about the early life of any candidate in my life.
So what is it that’s being left out?

Just read that McCain was sending mailers out in Virginia and Missouri showing a plane hitting the twin towers, with a headline, “Obama isn’t who he appears to be.”
If that mailing was sent to a significant number of homes in those states, I’ll call it right now. Obama wins both.

I got Obama-Hate mail yesterday!!!! Im in Coral Gables Florida, it didn’t have twin towers it has A HUGE pic of Obama (looking like Denzel Washington) and a black background and it says CRIME on top and “& PUNISHMEN” on the bottom. the back has “OBAMA: “he acted more as a friends to criminals than to cops…” a quote from an EDITORIAL. THEN INSIDE it says more editorial crap from March (same magazine) and his VOTES against:
-Tough penalties for drug-related crimes (but it does not talk about him asking for an ammended law instead)
- THAT OBAMA IS AGAINST PROTECTING CHILDREN FROM DANGER lol
-Against tough penalties for gangsters (wrong hood to send that to! lol!)
-Against protecting families from abuse or some dumb stuff…
EVIDENTLY THE GOP FAILED TO REALIZE:
#1 not ALL the families in my hood are UBBER RICH and our kids get chartered to Carver Elementary WHERE THERE IS A PAPER DEFICIT AND THE TEACHERS HAVE BEEN BEGGING US TO BRING PRINTING PAPER BECAUSE THEY DON’T HAVE ANY.
I am sooo mad!!! WASTING PAPER like that! when we have to figure out online stuff because the teachers have NO PAPER to write the home assignment in!

wyobabe,
I think you need to read the recent New York Post piece. The had to submit a retraction, because Michelle Obama never stayed at the Waldorf Astoria in New York. Their “source” made it up!!
I think it’s interesting that the GOP diehards will make every effort to defend Palin, eventhough the RNC spent $150,000 of taxpayers money on her fancy wardrobe.

Oh, should have added that I’ve also seen news coverage of the latest McCain charge against Obama. He’s a sociality/communist/Marxist.
But I just think its reached the point of everyone assuming over-reach. Here’s a tip, Republicans. Don’t over-reach. You guys used to be good at this character assassination stuff. What happened?
Voters have reached the point of tuning these attacks out, I believe. Even if you were to bring up something legitimate at this point, I just don’t think voters would pay attention.
And like I said, I hope those McCain mailers trying to tie Obama to 9-11 go out to every home in Virginia and Missouri, because if they do, Obama wins both. He might win both anyway, but that one might even cause the erosion of some GOP voters.

“LIBERAL MEDIA” MY ASS
Where do all you ditto head Neocon bigots get your “talking points”?
From the MEDIA of course. You know?: Limbaugh, Hannity, O’Reilly, Coulter, and on and on.
When will the MEDIA ask Palin about the SEPARATIST Alaskan Independence Party that her husband was a member of and who she told to “keep up the good work”?
When will the MEDIA ask Palin about the windfall oil tax she hit oil companies with, and then sent each Alaskan a check? Isn’t *that* “Socialism”? Yes, it is!
When will the MEDIA take McCain to task for his unrepentant friendship with domestic terrorist G Gordon Liddy, who told his listeners in 1994 to *kill federal agents*?!!! Obama condemned Ayers for what he did 40 years ago. McCain refuses to condemn Ayers.
Liberal Media? Where?

Posted by: Gordon Plumber | October 22, 2008, 11:22 am 11:22 am

How can anyone trust McCain/Palin to hold intelligent dialogue with foreign diplomats when they have been unable to run a respectable campaign about the issues?
Saying the Media has been unfair to them???? Where is the reporting on Sarah’s beloved AIP, her obvious belief in Witches, where are her medical records? And McCain with his ‘over the top’ respect & friendship for G.Gordon Liddy & all his medical records?
Go to the Alaska Media & blogs to see how much damage Ms. Palin has done to her State.
http://mudflats.wordpress.com/
Their entire campaign has been based on negatives of racism, bullying and rhetoric.
Sarah Palin…what an embarrassment of mean-spririted entertainment…she and Michele Bachmann are cut from the same pattern with their McCarthyism ideals.

There is a reason Palin is kept from talking to the media. She doesn’t understand the economy or foreign policy. She is dangerously uneducated and inexperienced. She doesn’t even know what the role of VP is, something I learned in high school civic.
Obama, Harvard law review, State Senator 6 years, US Senate 2+ years.
Sarah Palin, BA University of Idaho, Mayor of a tiny town in Alaska, Governor of a state smaller that many US cities.

I don’t get it. I’m in a swing part of a swing state (VA). Why aren’t I getting these mailers?
Actually I could see the crime and punishment one maybe scaring off a few voters. The 9-11 one should be captured for politics 101 courses as a classic example of over-reach.

I would also like to add that the CNN interview that Palin had with Drew Griffin, was the same reporter that miscontrued the facts on Troopergate and ACORN.
I find it interesting that off all the distinguished journalists on CNN (Anderson Cooper, Wolf Blizter, Campbell Brown, Larry King, Rick Sanchez, Dana Bash, Ed Henry, Jessica Yellin) that they chose Drew Griffin to conduct CNN’s first and possibly only interview with Palin.
All of the other major networks have sent out their top brass to interview Palin, why was CNN different??

Hopefully McCain is blanketing Pennsylvania with the negative fliers, too.
I’m not sure why but that state does worry me a little. I think its because Murtha in western PA has decided it makes good political sense to insult his entire home region.
So Pennsylvania could stand to see the more negative side of John McCain for the next 13 days, just to lock down the Obama win there.

Mr. FOX Rupert Murdoch’s Limbaugh and his outright LIE about Mrs. Obama and the lobster/caviar at the Waldorf Astoria.
From the New York Post:
THE source who told us last week about Michelle Obama getting lobster and caviar delivered to her room at the Waldorf-Astoria must have been under the influence of a mind-altering drug. She was not even staying at the Waldorf. We regret the mistake, and our former source is going to regret it, too. Bread and water would be too good for such disinformation.

I guess not everyone can be as good as you. So kind and accepting you are! Truth is, the Palins have probably accomplished more in their lives than you could ever dream to accomplish. Let me guess, you probably go around at night removing McCain-Palin signs. I find it interesting that people who claim to be so concerned about the “people” don’t respect for the first amendment unless you agree with them. In my travels I have seen numerous McCain signs damaged, painted, knocked down and a local radio station invited callers to relate their stories of this type of behavior. In the 10 minute segment, not one caller described problems with their Obama signs. But there were at least 15 McCain supporters who experienced theft, damage, threating notes in their mailboxes, and rude treatment in general from neighbors and the general public. This speaks volumes!!

My, how politics divides the people of this this great nation of ours. Remember this, always have faith in the democratic process.
We live here to be free…free to choose who will lead.
You may not always agree with the person who’s grasped hold of the the most powerful office on our little planet. But if you wait long enough…say four to eight years…you’re sure to regain faith in your fellow American to eventually make things right.
Look at it this way, I dreaded and feared the final days before Bush Took office in 2000 and again when he took office in 2004. I always thought he and his ultra-American party of righteous do-gooders would run this country into the ground and create a Christian Caliphate here in the US, spend all of our people’s hard earned cash on the pursuit of oil in the Mideast and continue with divisive politics.
Boy was I wrong. In fact, he’s exceeded my worst expectations and I’m still here to write about it.
I guess you could even make an argument that George W. Bush is a true American hero because he’s jolted our countrymen to take action in unprecedented numbers in the name of freedom. Freedom to choose and make things right again.

What’s left out is any concern by too many people about Obama’s disreputable background and his own behavior regarding disrespect for our flag and the national anthem. It’s due to the increasingly current liberal approach that most anything goes, and to hell with being accountable.

Krissy, you said, “So what does qualify Obama to be President, it depends who you ask. Blacks have been asked that very question and their answer is disgusting, ‘he’s black’.”
Did you ask me? Did you ask my boss? His son? The lady behind the deli counter at the grocery store? Several of the clients who come into the massage therapy clinic where I work? We’re all black, and – put your coffee cup down – some of us are not voting for Obama (I’m registered Green Party), some of us are voting for Obama, because of his policies, what he plans to do for this country, etc.
It’s infuriating when someone lambastes an entire race for a certain action or making a comment. Come on, Krissy, does that even make sense?

John McCain in Pennsylvania = southern Pennsylvania is the most patriotic and God-loving part of America
Ok, John McCain, and the rest of America is what?? Unpatriotic nd God-hating??
Sarah Palin in Virginia = I love these small towns, they are PRO America!
Ok, Sarah Palin, and the rest of America is Anti-American, Un-American??
Michele Bautmann = Obsolutely, I feel he (Senato Obama) is Anti-American; I want the media to vet members of congress to find out wo is Anti-American
Representative Haynes = what did he say?? Whatever it was, was along the same lines. If someone remembers his exact words, please refresh our memories. :)
—————-
So these republicans believe the greater part of citizens in America are ANTI-AMERICAN, UN-AMERICAN, ARE NOT PATRIOTIC AND DO NOT LOVE OUR COUNTRY?? The very reason we are voting for Obama-Biden IS because WE LOVE OUR COUNTRY, WE ARE AMERICANS, AND WE LOVE OUR COUNTRY, AND WE ARE PATRIOTIC, AND WE WANT UNITY, WE WANT A PRESIDENT AND VICE PRESIDENT WHO BELIEVE IN ALL AMERICANS! The republicans are dividing our beloved country and they are DETERMINING who is PRO-AMERICAN, UN-AMERICAN, ANTI-AMERICAN, PRO-AMERI AN, PATRIOTIC, UNPATRIOTIC, WHO LOVES THIS COUNTRY, WHO DOES NOT LOVE THIS COUNTRY. Do these republicans EXEMPLIFY GOOD LEADERS??? I encourage the majority of Americans to vote for the leaders WHO REPRESENT ALL PEOPLE IN THE UNITED STATES: Barack Obama and Joe Biden.
John McCain and Sarah Pilan ONLY WANT TO REPRESENT THOSE WHOM THEY DEEM AS PRO-AMERICAN, PATRIOTIC, AND WHOM THEY FEEL LOVE THEIR COUNTRY. They keep throwng the rest of us under the bus!!
As for the RNC spending $150,000.00 for clothing for Sarah, her husband, and their children, I find this totally outrageous!! How do their supporters feel about this? Clothing for Sarah, her husband and their children being bought by their supporters!! Since when have the donors and taxpayers started paying for strictly personal expenses??? This is definitely a classic case of WELFARE for the Palins!! Looks like the Palins MILK the government for their personal needs. What’s next? Is the RNC buying them a new and bigger house (or maybe 6 more houses so keep up with the McCains)?? The Palins cannot afford to buy their own clothes??? I find the RNC spending $150.000.00 to DRESS Palin and her family absolutely offensive and a HUGE INSULT to the people who have donated money to them and an even bigger insult to the taxpayers. Yes, the RNC is using OUR tax money—PUBLIC FUNDING—TO DRESS THE PALINS!!! This is beyond the pale!!! EVERYONE should OBJECT to this insanity!!

One of the problems Palin’s spending spree is that it is specifically illegal to use political donations for clothing and I don’t see any exemption for, “We always intended to give the clothes to charity after the campaign”:
See 2 USC 439b(2)(B)
(b) Prohibited use
(1) In general
A contribution or donation described in subsection (a) of this section shall not be converted by any person to personal use.
(2) Conversion
For the purposes of paragraph (1), a contribution or donation shall be considered to be converted to personal use if the contribution or amount is used to fulfill any commitment, obligation, or expense of a person that would exist irrespective of the candidate’s election campaign or individual’s duties as a holder of Federal office, including–
(A) a home mortgage, rent, or utility payment;
(B) a clothing purchase;
(C) a noncampaign-related automobile expense;
(D) a country club membership;
(E) a vacation or other noncampaign-related trip;
(F) a household food item;
(G) a tuition payment;
(H) admission to a sporting event, concert, theater, or other form of entertainment not associated with an election campaign; and
(I) dues, fees, and other payments to a health club or recreational facility.

Poor, poor McCain supporters! They are not only poor in intellect, intelligence, education, and what is good for America. You guys and gals need to acknowledge and accept John McCain is an old, washed out politician who cannot make good decisions. He and his cronies are destroying America with their vile campaign, dividing American into sectors. If you are for John McCain, he sees you as real Americans, Pro-Americans, God loving patriots, etc. If you are not for McCain, then you are thrown under the bus as Un-American, Anti-American, not patriotic, and not God-loving. John McCain and Sarah Palin keep proving every single day they are NOT fit to lead our beloved country. We, the people, need to keep them far, far away from OUR White House and the Oval Office.

From inside the Washington Beltway, I’m sure it appears that Sarah Palin is somehow a liability. But outside the beltway, it’s overwhelmingly obvious that Palin is the only thing about the McCain campaign that is appealing and certainly the only thing exciting people at all these Obama-sized rallies (the media will never admit that Palin outdraws Obama in person or on TV. never.)
The media has essentially sold its soul this time. They have given up just stepping over the line in political coverage and just wiped out the line entirely. There is just no sense of propriety any more. There is no reason for anybody who is not joining the new revolution (sounds better than socialism) to even watch news again. No reason to respect or value the things you see on TV because they are likely just to be more propaganda supporting whatever it is The Messiah is doing.
Not since the days of destroying Nixon has the media been so decidedly on the same side of a political campaign year. Obama wished he had been around in the 60s to experience all the excitement and now we’re having another overthrow of our government by people who are looking to punish their opponents and destroy the pillars of society. Not just a change in policy but a change in American culture.
But there aren’t enough rich people in America to punish. There isn’t enough money in existence to pay for everything that has been promised and no will be less and less incentive for anybody to want to work to pay for the new layer of ‘benefits’. And off we go down the road to European ‘democratic socialism’ (socialism) with the long told lie that ‘socialism works but it just hasn’t been applied correctly yet’.
What business should I be looking to get into in the next four years? What industry can anybody really predict is going to go up? The ones who are paying the bribes to get Congressional perks like the ethanol boondoggle?
Real Estate won’t be back because banks aren’t going to lend facing a prolonged recession and higher taxes. Fortune 500s will be laying off even more to anticipate the further downturn from higher taxes and more regulation. Energy companies will be saving cash to cover ‘windfall taxes’ and not furthering expansion (which will be blocked by the new supermajority). ‘Green’ will get a whopping $15B a year (they get that now) but coal, nuclear, nat gas and oil will be getting shorted. And since wind/solar/whatever don’t work yet and won’t in the next four years either, we should be expecting higher electricity prices as well. That ought to create jobs.
So where is a person supposed to go? Get a government job!!!! Those are definitely not disappearing – especially on the Federal level. You can become one of the drones who fills out paperwork for crooks like Rezko to rip off poor people in public housing projects. Or maybe ACORN will be hiring since they will undoubtedly be more flush with cash than ever before after having delivered so many states with votes from who knows whom. If only ACORN paid enough to support an actual family….
Hey, great times ahead, huh? Maybe Jimmy Carter won’t be the worst President after all?

JoeShmoeGW worst??? Are you kidding, have you looked at the Democratic Majority in Congress? Hmmmm? I’ve become a NObamagirl thru and thru. I live in a liberal, tax and regulate me to death state and fill out request forms before cutting my weeds. No one has ever asked me a single question because they figure we’re just going to vote Democrat AGAIN. Not this time. I’m sick of the broken promises to lower taxes on the proletariat and always WITHOUT FAIL within weeks of being sworn in say “Well, ah, ah, things are a lot worse that we were led to ah, ah, believe. So, as mentioned ah, ah mentioned before ah, ah we’re all going to have to make sacrifices and ah, ah that means we’re going to have to ah, ah actually all pitch in in order to ah, ah keep those important programs like ah, ah supporting no interest loans to those ah, ah segments of our population that cannot meet ah, ah minimum requirements and give more money to the wonderful United Nations to support all of their good works. Ah, ah, we’e all ah, ah going to share in the recovery with this new tax plan. Thank you America”. Mark my words, they have already written this statement and they are only waiting for the party to conclude. Obama voters are from two categories: Stupid and dumb, idealogues who don’t care what Obama says, racists who are voting for him simply because he’s black and the super rich elitists who think nothing of us coughing up more in taxes……after all their money is safely sheltered in no tax countries and islands near the shore of the U.S. Vote Obama and bend over it’s coming your way very soon.

Umm yeah. Ok.
So what does this tell you?
Today, five years later, Obama is a U.S. senator from Illinois who expresses a firmly pro-Israel view of Middle East politics, pleasing many of the Jewish leaders and advocates for Israel whom he is courting in his presidential campaign. The dinner conversations he had envisioned with his Palestinian American friend have ended. He and Khalidi have seen each other only fleetingly in recent years.
And yet the warm embrace Obama gave to Khalidi, and words like those at the professor’s going-away party, have left some Palestinian American leaders believing that Obama is more receptive to their viewpoint than he is willing to say.

You do know that unless the family purchases these items, they are donated to charity, after the election….right?
Now tell me why Obama’s campaign is charging the press to cover election night happenings, and depending on where they want to set up, the price could go to $1800 per person. But to get interviews in the heated tent, they’ll have to cough up another $900?

Hi
I am from Latvia, following elections because for us it is important that USA stays strong and free, and no socialism. Socialism never works, and will not work, period. No softness with countries like Russia, Iran etc.
Anyway, from my point of view, havign lived 27 years under Soviet regime, taking out Sadaam Hussein was The right message to all totalitarians, and I honestly admire both Bush for the decision, but more so American Soldiers who have to carry this through.
I see Sarah Palin as only normal person in both tickets. Authentically normal which is actually strange for politicians.
And I am surprised to see so normal thread on ABC – are they sleeping at the switch? All major news channels , even GOOGLE seems to be extremely proliberal biased.
Only during these elections I learned that I can not trust CNN in reporting, or BBC.
Good luck, Governor Palin.

So Billw, tell me again why is Sarah Palin palling around with a secessionist (Todd)? He was member of a party who’s founder Joe Vogler said:
“My government is my worst enemy. I’m going to fight them with any means at hand.”
Joe Vogler and his party also got sponsered by guess who???? IRAN.
So thank you for admitting that Billw, Todd Palin was palling around with an organisation who was palling around with a terrorist dictatorship called Iran.
Todd Palin the secessionist, Todd Palin the terrorist. That makes Sarah also a terrorist since she pals around with him still. What a bunch of freaks you rightwingers are LMFAO.

I don’t understand how the Republicans can trash-talk about ‘anti-America’ and when Todd Palin was until recently, and with the support of his wife Sarah, a member of the Alaska secessionist party whose stated goal is to secede from the US – how come the media does not call them on this? why do they get a pass, allowing them to falsely claim anyone who disagrees with them is Anti-American but the ones who actually belong to a recognized anti-american party are not labeled as such?

CHARITY!!!!! – What charity did the RNC plan to give these clothes to? Were they planning to sell these outfits at a charity auction in Malibu, Dallas or Manhattan? Given that she’s no Jackie Kennedy or Nancy Reagan – how many elite Republicans do they expect to bid on her outfits?
I also don’t think that the people who shop at the SALVATION ARMY wear a lot of silk taffeta or cashmere suits. Should we assume that she would need another wardrobe if John McCain were elected? How much money would the tax-papers spend on her clothing and makeup? Would she need a customized high-end outfit for diplomatic visits? Crystal encrusted saris to visit India and Pakistan, Silk, beaded kimonos to visit Japan? Native spun dashikis on top of her new or outdated vaccines to visit Africa? Haute couture brocade suits to have tea with the Queen Elizabeth? Would we have to pay for private showings from Chanel, Valentino and Yves St-Laurent? She and Cindy would easily surpass Nancy Reagan’s shopping sprees during the 1980s recession. I guess that wealth shouldn’t be spread around; it should be hidden in Sarah Palin’s wardrobe closet. They may need to add another wing to the White House to accommodate her. NO WONDER SHE APPEARED IN VOGUE MAGAZINE! Those designers must be part of her secret “base”.

And who cares? Obama gave Acorn $880,000 of his campaign money so they could buy the votes for him. We all know what is going on. And how about the $90 million from his campaign to someone else? The people who donated to his campaign should be asking for their money back. And what most of you donate don’t amount to that much because none of you are rich.

Al Qaeda endorsed McCain because he knows McCain is more intelligent than Obama. And the rest of the story is Al Qaeda will be planning an attack if Obama is elected. And he is not joking. He does not like Obama. Hamas is waiting for Obama to become the president or didn’t you know according to the news that Obama had dinner several times with one of the men from the former PLO now Hamas. It was all over the news. The new president will have problems and he better be prepared from day one because Iran just stated today that US has to break ties with Israel.

If you are against spreading the wealth around you must be against Palin. She took $150,000 from public donated funds to look better. She only makes $125,000 as Gov of Alaska. Of course when you take $1,000,000,000 from oil companies and give $1200 to each citizen of Alaska that is not wealth distribution but welfare.
