Axelrod, Emanuel to Obama White House; Gibbs, Jarrett to Play Key Roles
Former Obama chief strategist David Axelrod has accepted the position of Senior Adviser in the White House, sources tell ABC News. Robert Gibbs is also likely to join Obama’s White House as Press Secretary, and Obama would like his confidante Valerie Jarrett to play a key role. The exact parameters have not been set. They will join Rep. Rahm Emanuel, D-Ill, who has accepted the position of Obama’s White House Chief of Staff. He brings a lot of strengths to the office.
He knows the White House. He served there for six-and-a-half years under President Clinton. He knows Congress. He’s been a member of Congress now for four terms and risen to the number four Democratic leadership position on Capitol Hill. He knows policy and he knows how to drive policies through the bureaucracy. He’s also loyal. Obama has told associates he believes he’s "got his back." He’ll be a strong presence in the White House. Emanuel has centrist instincts and understands the dangers of moving too far in one direction in part from the Clinton experience. There’s been commentary from some Republicans arguing Emanuel is too partisan. But he’s also made a point of reaching out in the House to Republicans and building bridges. He’s had a series of bipartisan dinners over the last several years to build bridges with Democrats and Republicans. He likely understands that successful presidencies build those centrist coalitions. –George Stephanopoulos

Already Boehner is attacking Obama for his pick of Emmanuel.
The Republicans just can let go and admit they got beat by a better and more intelligent person who offers hope when they offered doom & gloom.
Well . . . so much for the honeymoon!

How is it going to work out with a Jewish chief of staff and Hamas the close friend of Obama’s? And what about the Arabs? I see trouble with some world leaders yet to come. And Obama won’t be able to handle it. Obama is not experienced enough in politics. He is just a 47 year old half black man who wanted to make history like MLK. He read books about him since he was a young boy given to him by his mother. Congress hasn’t seen anything yet and Pelosi thinks she will be running the show. Well, not with Obama, he will dictate what he wants and don’t want. They will see the real Obama and so will the public. Trouble lurks in the Mideast and it will be serious.

Why is it always the Republicans who get all the blame, wake up people the Dems have been in charge of both the House & Senate for the last two years and 4 years for the Senate…there is plenty of blame to go around starting with Barney Frank who has been in charge of the banking commission for the last 12 years….

HH – you are right – and let’s not forget what the Democrat’s decisions can do in the long-run. Carter started the housing mess by signing legislation that required lenders to relax their lending standards and then dear old Clinton followed along adding more legislation to further weaken mortgage lenders – thanks to them we’re in this mess. I should know – I was an officer and a member of the board of directors of a very large mortgage banker.

Mariann Pepitone: Are you on crack or just not very bright?
You are worried about how we’ll deal with the Middle East because Emanuel is Jewish?
That has to be the single most idiotic thing I’ve heard since Obama was named President-Elect.

Barbara: You are so right. And Obama is going to have William Daley in the administration as stated on the internet yesterday. I live in Chicago, born and raised here voted for Daley, Sr. who was the best Mayor Chicago ever had. But now, nothing but crooked politicians in City Hall. And Streets and Sanitation workers loafing on the job. That’s the same way Obama was as a community organization, he was not organizating the neighborhood and helping the people he was getting people to know him because he wanted to run for the senate and did but Bobby Rush, black panther leader beat him out. Then he met Ayers who bombed this country and became close friends with him. This young generation that voted for him wouldn’t care if he murdered someone, they would vote for him anyway because the majority are on drugs and booze as stated on the news.

Stock Market continues to fall after Obama wins! Investors are bailing out and cutting losses instead of loosing it all when Obama installs his raised tax increase on Business and doubling the Capital Gaines! Under Obama expect “More of the Same” sell sell sell! When Obama cant get the money he needs for his radical new agenda who do you think will be asked to “Sacrifice” as Obama said in his acceptance speech. That’s right boys and girls you and I. O yes and cutting Military and defense spending by 25% making us more vulnerable for attack any time since 2001!

love your comments “still whining” and
“huh”. Ain’t it the truth!! Thats
alright Dems – have your little fun and
gloat – wait till you see that Obama
and his NO EXPERIANCE will get you
into a mess that cannot even be
imagined at this point. And then I’m
going to say “I told you so” over and
over again. Dems are sooo short sighted
you just want your government handouts
so you don’t have to get your “no work
ethic” butts out there and do something
for yourself and your country. And to
vote for a man who is supported by
Planned Parenthood-whom everyone knows
was founded by Margret Sanger-who
HATED all minority’s and the poor and
found the best way to get rid of them
was to kill them through abortion!!
She was also in with the KKK!! Do
you black people realize that since
Roe v.Wade that 40% of all unborn
black babies have been aborted!! 40%!!
Think about who you have chosen!!

I see Repubs are ridiculing Obama for picking some former members of Clinton’s staff.
Gee . . . didn’t Bush pick former members of his father’s staff?
And then we have “Emma Ann” with the insulting name-calling. The Republicans just can’t stop with the personal attacks. Acting like immature and spoiled children who are poor losers.

Becky (the real one) – sorry – you have it wrong. The stock market was moving back up and tanked when Obama was elected – read the financial sites – directly from Bloomberg – largest decline after an election in history – Wall Street’s way of saying they are not happy with the outcome of the election. Of course, Obama says it’s not right for Wall Street to be doing well if Main Street isn’t doing well …. he knows nothing about economics – if Wall Street suffers, everyone suffers – they are the hand that feeds you – and then when their bottomline is in jeopardy, they cut jobs, increase prices, and send jobs overseas. This all trickles down to smaller busineses … start saving your money – you’ll need it when Obama’s economic plans put you out of work (that is if you do work instead of expecting the government to give you a free ride).

I’m glad it’s finally over. It was a close race; but President elect Obama’s keen sense of stragety and common sense out manuevered the meverick Sen. McCain This is an example of what kind of president he will be. Of course, politicians say an awful lot just to get elected and do hardly nothing they say they were going to do. But this president Obama may not do everything he said he was going to do, not because he won’t; but because he will be left with the biggest problems ever faced in history. He will have to assest the damage done from ground zero of the White House, then try to be honest with the people as to whether or not the problems can be fixed or a new approach is in order. I’m sure like always, when a job vacancy opens for a black person, he’ll have to work 3X as hard as a white person. Good luck President Obama, I hope they pay you 3X as much as President Bush makes.

Obama has more experience being the head of Law Review than GW ever had…yet you continue to support the idiot that has gotten us into the mess we are in now. Yeah, he was governor of Texas, did a really bad job at that (I live there, I know) and then he had the nerve to run for President…Give Obama a chance…he had more intelligence in high school than George W has now.

Think again. What was that was passed right when the election were going on??? a new regulation for the media for that “white space” Wait to see his face plaster all over tv during you favorit show….. Take a look at other countries with “presidents” (dictators)that had taken their own countries for a “change”. That change is: going from freedom to comunism.
Wait and see. Keep enjoying it!!

It is sad that so many people have this much time and energy in negativity. We all need to move forward and embrace where we are now. Tomorrow is not promised and you probably didn’t have enough monies in your own personal bank accounts anyway. So stop trying to act like your degrading comments on either side of the fence secures the house. It is time to move beyond race, gender, religion, etc and move to being responsible individuals. Everyone can point the finger but if you lived in the light everyday–it wouldn’t be nice. Now is the time to pray that our new President makes wise decisions that will make the country great has it has claimed to be for years. Barack was chosen for this time in history. You can’t change that no way you look at it. Why spend your breathe going against something that has obviously happened overwhelmingly! It is not about YOU it is about our future and where we want to see if even when our time on earth ends. Celebrate don’t player hate.

I am not sure who wrote this, but it is SO pertinent to the moment.
—————————–
Republicans sometimes like to mix politics and religion, but for Democrats politics is religion. The reason Republican speeches are generally much less memorable, much less inspiring is that they don’t promise us the dawn of a new millennium. They might praise America and invoke patriotism, but mostly they are about workaday politics. If anyone doubts that the Democratic Party is the true party of religion in the United States, let them doubt no longer. Democrats may not talk about God as much as Republicans, and a lot of Democrats might be die-hard secularists, but their politics is so invested with the hope of a completely transformed world in which all problems and all divisions are overcome that, for them, politics is a form of religion. If Obama himself was to appear in resplendent white robes with the ‘The Age of Aquarius’ playing in the background, no one would be surprised. If he was suddenly to be transfigured, if he appeared in a vision with those earlier prophets, Martin Luther King and John F Kennedy, his followers would think it the most natural thing in the world and they would erect a tent for them just like in the Bible. It is this lack of a sense of proportion that makes some of Barack’s speeches so completely overblown. His impressive baritone voice, his skill with words, and the way he can deliver those words in the rhythmic, hypnotic tones of the best black preachers help disguise the fact that he is a man suffering from a very severe case of Messiah-complex.
Only such a man could say, on the day he knew he had secured the Democratic nomination, that “this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal”.
Barack needs to realize that politics is just politics. It’s not religion. We’re not at the dawn of a New Age. We’re not about to evolve to a new and higher level of consciousness.

Republicans that are displaying the vindictive, spiteful, spoiled child syndrome because McCain lost, need to grow up. If they are not mature enough to work with the Democrats and want only to stonewall any progress then they certainly can’t claim that they have “put America first”. If they showed a little humility like John McCain did in his concession speech (which gave him back much of the respect an dignity he lost by going negative in the campaign) and worked with others from different viewpoints to build a better America instead of resorting to childish behavior, then perhaps some of the 57 million that voted for Obama might be willing to chose a Republican next time when he or she is the best possible candidate.

I think that ABC should brain wash everyone that in two years when the economy is still in the tank, unemployement is at 15%, gas is back to $4 a gallon that it is still Bush’s fault…..even though the Dem’s are the ones that control the Senate for the last two years……I forgot, ya’ll don’t realize that the Senate FINALIZES the budget for the President…so it is the DEm’s & PELOSI that increase the budget for the last two years…. Maybe Obama will prove me wrong and control the spending like he said he would…..I am not going to hold my breath……..

People say things like “Secret Muslim”, “Muslim lover” and mention it in a demeaning fashion. This is really offensive to anyone who practices religion and especially living in the United States. Religious tolerance is one of the reasons people came to americas centuries past, so don’t take that for granted.

You know, I wanted, after Obama won, to leave off being so angry at the cons and do the right thing as requested and stop being part of being so hateful and partisan but you neo-“conservatives” (actually reactionaries is a better word) just REFUSE to put your country first (in spite of your “USA, USA”) and you REFUSE to be nice or fair or even declare a temporary truce before you even give the new guy a chance at all. You people ran the meanest, most dishonest campaign I have ever seen and you don’t even think you were mean enough in spite of all your slander and scurrilous name calling. I can’t let your carping and sniping I see on this blog-board go. I have to say something. ___Obama is wasting his time if he thinks he can reach out to you attack-hyenas and work with you. He’ll find out in a hurry, like Clinton did, that he’ll get the full right-wing conspiracy come at him and try to knock him down when he’s trying to help fix the disaster the Republicans made.
He won’t be able to work with you guys. You don’t WANT to be reasonable and you don’t want to meet others half way. You’ve made up your minds to be hateful and evil while you fool yourselves into thinking you are in the right for being so evil. You were an unmitigated disaster during the last eight years of the Bush White House, and this has been one of the worst times in American history while your party’s militancy has given our enemies great opening to successfully foment hate toward us worldwide. The terrorists have made huge inroads in recruiting new terrorists to attack America worldwide because of Bush’s policies. But you cons are such fools, you haven’t learned a thing and you still think you can solve every problem by giving more money to the super-rich and by the threat of military confrontation with countries we don’t like. When you whine and complain about the ‘damage Obama will do’ you are so full of bull and so full of blatant denial about the horrible economic and military chaos your party has created during its disastrous tenure in power!!. In fact, Obama COULDN’T DO ANY WORSE than you Republicans have done. COULDN’T!! You cons are sore losers and not even smart enough to change your ways even in the face of your mammoth failures and your recent rebuke by the American public at the polls. All your ideologies and policies have been found to be destructive and bankrupt. So nobody wants to hear your mean-spirited selfish moaning. You had your turn. Step down and share and live with it like we had to live with George W. Bush, a man as close to evil as any American president has ever been. We had to eat $h!+ for fourteen years, ever since Newt Gettingrich took out the destructive Contract on America. Our country has suffered enough under you blameshifting hypocrites. If you don’t like it, remember the old slogan “America, love it or leave it!”? Well cons…love it or leave. You have done enough harm to us all and we’ll be lucky if Obama can help us dig out of the horrible debt and hardship your Republican party has brought down on all of our heads collectively as a country. You cons have no business shouting “USA USA” when you’ve come close to destroying the USA. Nobody wants to hear your bull anymore. You lost. The American people rejected you and you can go crawl back under the septic tank lid where you belong. I know you’ll be back, God help us. You always come back even more crooked and hateful than ever four years later. Well, maybe we can get something done while you are temporarily out of power, you pieces of $h!+.

Well, the G-O-P coalition lost, and lost big. And now they are angry. For those who are curious, this is what G-O-P stands for:
- G is for Gullible (so called “value voters”, the religious right, and other assorted “holier than thou’s” who want to tell everybody else how to live their lives)
- O is for Obnoxious (the Neocons, including Cheney and Rumsfeld types)
- P is for Parasites (the true beneficiaries of the Republican “welfare state”, i.e. the reckless greedy speculators, the petroleum industry, the military-industrial complex, big pharma, and other self-defined compassionate conservatives)
Good riddance!!!!!!

Hey there republican, right wing or racist America.Today is the dawning of a new more inclusive America. For 8 years the right wing has had its way. For way too long hope has been crushed for ” minorities”. Change has come to America. The democrats, left or open minded America now has it’s turn at bat. It’s only fair. How selfish of so many of you to think that the world is always going to go your way while others suffer and feel hopeless for a lifetime. I thank God for this day. each and every child is now truly able to live up to his or her fullest potential as seen and symbolized in the election of Barack Obama.I am more proud of my nation on this day. I feel more American than ever. Those of you that voted for Barack, I want to thank you. Especially those of you who are white. As an African American, it sets my spirit free to see that this nation has grown so that it looks past race to invest and trust in it’s people to lead. THANK YOU AND THANK YOU ALL THAT VOTED FOR CHANGE, HOPE, PEACE AND POSSIBILITY.

What is up with all this anger? Did anyone think that the moment Obama was declared the President-elect the earth was going to move? Even the Democrats knew better than that. After all, he is following someone who will go down as the worst president ever. To be sarcastic and obnoxious about his initial choices is simply jealousy. If you and your party have the answers, where have you been? Why didn’t you vet yourself for the vp position, it sounds like all of you know much better even than McCain, which doesn’t take a lot in this economic climate. Get over yourselves and if you can’t find your way out of your ego, at least admit that this was a historical election and that the world, Arab, Jewish and everyone else, will view us in a different light. We are actually capable of voting for someone who is African-American. And the Muslim/Jewish charges are out of absolute fear and igonorance. If anyone still believes that Obama is a Muslim should just say I don’t like him because he is black or I think he must be friends with terrorists because they are all Muslim. Does that mean that every white person with an interesting name is a member of the Klu Klux Klan or the Weather Underground? As Colin Powell said, and what if he was Muslim? Do you honestly believe that all Muslims are bad? Then you still must think that Bush is a great president and that the debt we now have is because of 9/11 and not overt over-spending on the wrong war. And to all of you who have negative things to say about the Clinton administration coming back, think back to the jobs you had and the surplus this country had before being handed over to Bush. Jealousy is such an ugly color of green.

I heard Tom Brokaw remarking about OBAMA: 1. nobody really knows him or what he thinks 2) His acceptance speech was remarkable in that he did not have his family at his side and had Biden chained down someplace where nobody could see him. 3) Obama is egotistical and more concerned with managing his appearance than substance. 4) He was an enigma. 5 )He was watching the crowd watch him. Tom Brokaw was actually afraid after being an Obama supporter. What have you Obama people done to the US? Change? Change to what? NONE OF YOU KNOW!!!

Per TV’s post: I am a white male…and have been amazed at my white male friends’ questions and concerns about Obama. They question Michelle’s college thesis. They question Barack’s church ties. They question reducing the number of children without healthcare since in their opinion “it’s minorities who pump out children on the government dole”. It’s racism…pure and simple. There was a lot of racist (sometimes subtle) chatter during the campaign season. I am proud of our country for electing a minority to the highest office!

One can only hope that Boehner and others of his ilk continue their unreasoned criticism of the Emanuel appointment. Selecting anyone but a loyal partisan as COS would be absolute folly and Boehner knows it. He doesn’t seem to realize that the electorate are not stupid and are likely going to view his comments as unreasonable and indicative of an unwillingness to be bipartisan. Certainly seems that it’s politics as usual for the Republicans. Unless they wake up to the reality expressed by the voters on Tuesday I expect they are going to be even more disappointed when next the voters comment.

After watching his acceptance speech, Obama has convinced me that he is probably the most dangerous individual ever elected to the Presidency. He is cold , calculating, egotistical and nobody knows what he believes or will do. The people who voted for him did not think about any of this and I am afraid they have done extreme damage to the US by putting an Socialist smooth talking egomaniac in office. The market is down, because retail sales are down….due to the mess that the republicans created.
Jimmy Carter left office almost 30 years ago, and Clinton left us with a surplus.
You nay-sayers should try to help the country heal and pray that our economy grows for the good of the country.
Remember “Country First”

i am loving the whining! who gives you republicans lessons ? or are you just natural born crybabies? genetically enhanced whining ? my oh my youre good at it.
anyhow i just wanted to remind you pouting conservative whiners of two things you can be 110% sure of.
#1) you can absolutely positively forget about getting back in the oval office after any measly 4 years. the republican party is now seen by a landslide of a majority of taxpayers/voters to be chock full of fringe whackos and crooks. republican credibility (a glaring dichotomy to begin with ) is totally annihilated and a thing of the past ,if it ever exited at all… BUSTED!
a/any republican will be lucky to get voted in for dogcatcher after the upcoming investigations into the last +8 years are said and done…BUSTED!
and please dont forget who is running the show now , ie; democrats/liberals. we are going to legislate (and easily pass) NEW ELECTION LAWS THAT WILL MUFFLE STIFLE AND PARALYZE THE REPUBLICAN LIE MACHINE. got that?
and…
#2)DONT FORGET ABOUT APRIL 15TH OK?
better check up on the NEW tax laws too…

Time to get started—- I’m sure he will have the plan all laid out by January 20 to:
1) Fix the economy.
2) Fix the healthcare system.
3) Visit Amadinejad, Chavez, the Castro brothers, Al Bashir, Osama bin Laden, Kim Jung Il, Hamas, Hezbolla, Al Sadr and explain to all of them that we are very sorry for all things we’ve done and that we promise to change. (Did I leave anyone out that should be included?)
4) Solve all the world’s problems because we’re responsible for getting everything so screwed up.
5) Pay for every one to go the university of their choice—- everyone needs the same opportunity that he had!! Right?
6) Pay for everyone’s mortgage if they can’t.
7) Pay for everyone’s utilities and gas if they can’t.
8) Redistribute everyone’s wealth so that we all have exactly the same thing —– after all, we are all entitled to the same things, right!
9) Fix the education system.
10) Make sure everyone has a job.
I can’t wait to get my first installment from the Redistribution Fund. When are they mailing out the checks?? Does anyone know?
What joke!!!!!

There are some truly despicable people in here. You spew out hatred all while hidden beyond a screen name. Get a life. Guess what? Senator Barack Obama was elected as President of the United States, now to use some words I have heard quite frequently, “if you don’t like it go back to where you came from”. That would leave only the Native Americans to have room or right to complain. Otherwise, just sit back and enjoy the ride!!! I think you’re gonna like it.

I would choose smartness against anything else. Smart people are quick learner and even if they make mistake
they correct it. Look around in your life and you will find those smart people..I always surround myself with smart people..
Perfect example: pick of Sarah Palin .. she does not even know “Africa” is a continent..I really don’t blame her, She is simply NOT SMART..PERIOD..

Just a word to all Republicans: You will never get Democrats to say they are wrong on anything they are a bunch of Left wing Lunatics from the DNC that stands for DUMB . NUT . CASES. they are Elitist in every sense of the word and they will never admit they are wrong they want us to be nice to them know and give Obama a chance when they never gave a Republican the benefit of the doubt. They are anti-American haters who have been praying for our soldiers failure in Iraq for years to support the radical agenda they support! The Democratic party is the party of Abortion on Demand, But anti-capital punishment, Pro-criminal and Anti-victim, Freedom of speech unless you disagree with them then it is hate speech.

Does OPRAH know President Obama is 1/2 WHITE!!!!! Does the black community know his mother was WHITE!!!!! Everyone needs to stop with the racial comments and just be AMERICANS!!!!! Unless you was born in AFRICA you are an American with a different shade of skin. Everyone has different skin tones. So EVERY skin tone white and black needs to get over it and move on. We need to be united as ONE or this will always be a problem. STOP IT — STOP IT NOW and let’s look at one another as though we are blind…and we can’t see any shade of skin tone!!!

sharoona- you are completely wrong. The lower tax rates meant the government actually collected more dollars. It was the reduction in capital gains tax to 15% which provided all the money. Under Bush, government income rose 20% so spending is the problem not governmental income. Now Obama is going to raise the taxes on almost everybody including capital gains. Plus he will spend more so the deficit will be astronomical.

I’m no kid, and I have come to believe all new presidents deserve the opportunity to let their actions speak for themselves after they take office. The view is different up there. Give him a chance to do something; then spout to your heart’s content.
One thing: you’ve got to give him some credit for having his act together, getting all these appointments in place and getting up to speed. Plenty of presidents haven’t, and Lord knows he’s going to have to hit the ground running.

I hope all those of you that are so eager to criticize President Obama and his legacy will be equally as eager to admit you are wrong when he returns this country to greatness as a respected world power, and he does that with the bipartisan support he is already bringing into the White House.
Let go of your anger. Put that passion into something productive. Your new president will need your help, and he would be the first person to acknowledge your contribution and success.

I don’t like Axelrod but Rahm is a good choice. Axelrod just seems like a partisan sleezeball. They will need a good strategy for dealing with the minority party but an even better strategy for dealing with the egos of congressional leaders in their own party. I’m predicting more infighting than you can imagine with congressional left wing ideology clashing with white house situationally imposed pragmatics.

I thought the election was over? THE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN. A lot of people here don’t seem to believe in our DEMOCRACY nor do they seem to care about our country. We are in difficult times so instead of being pessimistic hoping for the destruction of our great nation let us be optimistic and get behind our new President and hope and pray that better days are ahead. Some people here are more democrats and republicans that they are AMERICANS. We must stop this and put our country first as we are all in this boat together. We may not agree with each other about some issues but we can at least agree that we are all AMERICANS. Through out this election I constantly heard the use of phrases as unamerican, unpatriotic, some are real americans to describe citzens of this great nation, which was very disappointing to me. The election is over and the majority have spoken please respect their voice and let us come together to renew our country.

Why don’t you give the man a chance and see what happens? President-Elect Obama is a good and decent man who is intelligent and compassionate and will work tirelessly to move this country forward. IT IS A NEW DAY – OF THAT YOU CAN BE ASSURED. The shift to the Democrats is the greatest thing that could have happened. The majority has spoken and we said ENOUGH ALREADY. Brian-
Technically, you’re correct, but unfortunately only the wealthy benefit from a decrease in the capital gains taxes. The more money you give to the middle class and the poor, the more of it they will spend which ultimately results in increased consumption as well as corporate revenues (buying products people need to survive like food, shelter, clothing).
The wealthy have a higher rate of disposable income, therefore a higher nominal tax rate does not radically affect their rate of spending. Thus, no new revenues from their rate of spending.
Unfortunately, the middle class didn’t benefit under Bush.
Obama is not going to raise taxes on the middle class. He’s simply rolling back the Bush tax cuts, which in itself, will stimulate the economy.
Please don’t let your ideology get in the way of what is right for America.
We’re spending more in wars that Obama ever will in government.

If Boehner thinks the choice od Rahm is bad it proves the choice was perfect.
The more the neocons say this was a terrible choice the more I will believe it was a great choice.
Watch O’Lielly, Hannity and Limburger go ‘postal’ on the choice.
The loonies on the right are scared to death that this presidency will succeed.
The gnashing of teeth and wringing of hands will be fun to watch. The neocons are finished and they know it. They won’t go down without trying to take the country with them, I’m afraid.

I admire Obama’s decisions. He is making smart choices, and I am looking forward to seeing how well he runs our government. I am so proud of the American people and the wise decisions most made in the ballot booth!

Some of the McCain supporter are sore losers, and have to preach hate. And just because the Democrats had both houses they still did not have enough votes to move things along with the Republicans stonewalling.
Posted by: USCITIZEN_04 | November 6, 2008, 5:21 pm 5:21 pm
The Republicans are at it again. They, both Regean and father George Bush senior left the White House in a recession. Yeap, the bad economy began before Regean left and George Bush senior escalated it into a recession.
It took the Democrats, Clinton and his administration to fix it. Clinton left the White House with a surplus.
But GW Bush followed in his fathers foot steps and destroyed our economy again. Looks like he is also leaving the White House, like his father did, in a recession.
Obama and his crew will clean it up. It would be nice to see Hillary and or Bill in there somewhere. After all the Clintons do have experience at cleaning up after a Bush.

I was and am a very strong supporter of Obama, but and a bit disturbed by his choice of Rahm Emanuel, seemingly a warlike Zionist (whose father, I’ve heard, ran arms for the terrorist Irgun organization in the late 40′s). He voted for the arrogant & illegal invasion of Iraq. Could Obama possibly follow the trajectory of LBJ: excellent domestically but criminel in foreign policy? I hope for the best, since the pres. elect is surely a highly intelligent & humane man. But the question haunts me: what if Israel launches an unprovoked attact against Iran? Stuff of nightmares!
Posted by: pugnax | November 6, 2008, 5:45 pm 5:45 pm
“Rahm Emanuel, seemingly a warlike Zionist”. So, he’s automatically a terrorist because his father belonged to Irgun? Here we go again! Calling names and guilt by association accusations. Get over it and start working for unity in this country.

Pugnax, I could find nothing of arms run. I found this….
His strongest opponent of the seven other candidates in the 2002 Democratic primary — the real contest in this heavily Democratic district — was former Illinois State Representative Nancy Kaszak, who had unsuccessfully opposed Blagojevich in the 1996 primary. The most controversial moment of the primary election came when Edward Moskal, president of the Polish American Congress, a political action committee endorsing Kaszak, called Emanuel a “millionaire carpetbagger who knows nothing” about “our heritage”. Moskal also charged that Emanuel had dual citizenship with Israel and had served in the Israeli Army. Rahm was a civilian volunteer in the Israel Defense Forces during the 1991 Gulf War and is a citizen due to his father’s (dual) Israeli-U.S. citizenship.
Emanuel brought together a coalition of Chicago clergy to denounce the incident. He recalled, “One of the proudest moments of my life was seeing people of my district from all backgrounds demonstrate our common values by coming together in response to this obvious attempt to divide them.” Moskal’s comments were denounced as anti-Semitic by many, including Kaszak. Emanuel won the primary and easily defeated Republican candidate Mark Augusti in the general election. Emanuel supported the October 2002 joint Congressional resolution authorizing the Iraq War, differentiating himself from all nine other Democratic members of the Illinois Congressional delegation (Sen. Richard Durbin, Reps. Bobby Rush, Jesse Jackson, Jr., Bill Lipinski, Luis Gutiérrez, Danny K. Davis, Jan Schakowsky, Jerry Costello and Evans) elected in 2002.[22]
I do want to see what you got in that department though.

@Mariann – First let me just say, you are an idiot. Are you thinking that Obama is going to call a press conference and rip off his suit to reveal a robe, and then put on a turbin? You are so brainwashed by your own fear it is sickening. It must suck to be shaking in your boots 24/7.
Just so you know, there are checks and balances in government. Even with a completely democratic congress, senate, and presidency there is plenty of room for dissent
You are completely ignorant of the facts, especially your in your grasp (Or lack thereof) of the politics in the middle east.
Rahm is tough because he likes to get things done. He’s been tough on members of his own party as well. He is a centrist, so all of you thinking that he is a Zionist lefty whack-job can suck it. You think that Obama would select someone with no policy or whitehouse experience? You are on crack, or maybe you are upset that he didn’t pick a “maverick” like Palin.

Posted by: seth | November 6, 2008, 6:28 pm 6:28 pm
Good job Barky.
You appoint Rahm Emanuel as your chief of staff and David Axelrod as senior adviser.
Rahm’s father, the Jerusalem-born Benjamin M. Emanuel, is a pediatrician and former member of the Irgun (Irgun Zeva’i Le’ummi), a Zionist group that operated in Palestine between 1931 and 1948.
Some of the better-known attacks by Irgun were the bombing of the King David Hotel in Jerusalem on 22 July 1946 and the Deir Yassin massacre (accomplished together with the Stern Gang) on 9 April 1948. In the West, Irgun was described as a terrorist organization by The New York Times newspaper,[3][4] and by the Anglo-American Committee of Enquiry.
Its good to know that little has changed in Washington.
Its a pity that Obama can’t find qualified African Americans to surround himself with, rather he resort to the Jews.
McCain had his handler and that was Joe Lieberman, AIPAC’s main man in America.

Yeah, this is about what you can expect from the Repugs—It’s only Baracks 2nd day as President elect and they’re already looking for something to attack him on! Why the feck should they care about who Obama selects to run the White House!
I hope and pray they don’t dog him like they did Clinton from day one—even though in 92 Jennifer Flowers had already begun to blab.
Posted by: Leukevent | November 6, 2008, 6:38 pm 6:38 pm
@Ed – You should crawl back into your hole. Hurry the Jews are coming. Seriously, I’m sure a week ago you were railing that Obama was a Muslim. Yes… I’m sure the election of Obama was a vast Jewish conspiracy.
Is he supposed to pick African Americans simply because he is black? The fact that Obama has reached out to people who are of a different heritage or background speaks volumes about the character of the man. Sounds like you need to make some new friends Ed. Oh…. nice cut and paste job.
Posted by: Shiver | November 6, 2008, 6:44 pm 6:44 pm
Hey Ed where is the proof that Benjamin M. Emanuel bombed anything or ran arms? More of the Scare tactics that lost this election for McCain along with not spelling out his policies in details. No we had to sit through attacks on the other person instead. People want facts not indowendos, we want details, we want to see it for ourselves unlike the Hard right wingers that will beleive anything thier party puts out even if they are not true or demand details of thier plan. How is that Bridge to no where that Palin ran on for Governor? First she was for it until she was agaist it. Or Half truths I put the Jet on E-Bay. But in reality it did not sell so she hired a broker to sell it at a 4 million dollar loss.

You wanted change? You’ll get it. You could have checked that change out beforehand by moving to Baltimore city or Detroit or any other city the Democrats have been completely controlling for 30+ years…the highest taxes, highest crime, miserable schools, miserable services, etc, etc.
I just hope we can survive your changes.

Lets face it folks.
No matter who is in the White House, its won’t matter. Both Obama and McCain are stooges for corporate America. Millions of dollars with given to both campaigns. The ruling elite and big business cover both sides of the same coin.
This is the best choice the elite will give you. Their version of “democracy” The Repugs or the Demopublicans. Alternative voices are shunned by the mainstream media.
Nothing will change. The dictatorship which George the Warrior has ruled over the past 8 years will continue.
Yes, change is coming.
Your New World Order and the new currency(the Amero) your elite so desire is coming.
Sure they will throw a few crumbs out to you to keep you where they want-fat, dumb and happy and soon homeless.
Wake up folks, the jokes on you.

Hey Mary …..
“slamming,” which is registering voters as Republicans without their knowledge
what does YPM have to do with McCain? YPM makes money by registers not voters, but Republican voters specifically. Working not only as a subcontractor for the California Republican Party but also, according to the Ventura County Star, for the voter registration bounties offered by another man, Steve Poisner, a multimillionaire who offered YPM $5 for every new Republican registered. Like a bounty. He also happens to be the California co-chairman of the McCain campaign.
McCain cannot claim ignorance to YPM’s track record. Jacoby is based in Arizona where a number of ballot initiatives may not be on the ballot after YPM gathered signatures for them and some of those signatures failed to pass muster with local election officials. And YPM was publicly accused of vote slamming before. In 2004 in both Florida and Massachusetts.
And then there is Nathan Spruill, former head of the Arizona Republican Party. He, too, now in the vote registering business and a serial denial of whistleblowers, who not only accuse him of slamming voters into the Republican Party but also claim he has torn up Democratic registrations in Oregon, Nevada, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Real registrations of real voters. Real Americans who thought they were registered, and may very well have been denied their right to vote in the real elections of 2004.
McCain’s connection? This year Huffington Post reports a joint committee of the GOP and McCain campaign paid $175,000 for, quote, “registering voters” to the Lincoln Strategies Group, the voter registration company headed by Nathan Spruill.
Posted by: USCITIZEN_04 | November 6, 2008, 7:14 pm 7:14 pm
@Mary – Acorn signs people up to vote. If they are first time registrants, then they would need to show government issued ID as well as proof of address to verify that they are voting in the right precinct.
If an Acorn worker falsified a voter registration form by putting in the name Mickey Mouse as the registrant, it wouldn’t really matter unless someone claiming to be Mickey Mouse showed up to vote. And it’s “ineligible”.

Slogans for the political parties – Democratic party=Hope – Republican party=Hate.
I am sorry to see that some McCain supporters do not follow his lead now – and especially do not want to live up to his campaign slogan, “Country First.” McCain has said he will work with Obama now, asked his supporters to work with Obama – the campaign is over (with its innuendos about Obama associating with terrorists, without telling you that prominent Republicans were serving on the same board and associating with the same reformed/respected citizen “terrorist”) – it’s time for unity, time to work together for the good of our country.
Reading these posts, I get the impression that Republicans are a “me first” people, not country first. I was born in the 1930′s and from the age of 6 worked hard with my parents on our dairy farm – because my brothers and sisters were all away fighting for our freedom or working in a bomber plant instead of helping on the farm as they had before WW II. My family had members in the armed services in all conflicts I can remember (just to let you know Democrats also fight for their country). I reached adulthood knowing that our taxes were necessary to keep our government running, to fund our country’s infrastructure and necessary services AND to help provide for those who were in need (I also learned in Sunday school that Jesus told us to care for those in need).
Now I hear people here who do not want to pay “a dime” in taxes. Rot! What fairy tale are you living in? I grew up knowing that I had a responsibility to do my part as a citizen to keep our country healthy, both through my actions and my taxes — and now you are saying you want to opt out on your responsibility because your candidate didn’t win? Do I really need to say what I think of that as a moral choice?
By the way, I am a white 72 year old female – my husband and I worked 45 years and paid into Social Security and Medicare before starting to draw our Social Security retirement payments – never on welfare – neither rich nor poor, and happy with what I have and where I stand. One of your economic leaders said American had become a nation of whiners – he neglected to say those whiners are in the Republican party. I call on you to quit whining, stand up and be proud of your country for being a democracy, say with me “the campaign is over, now it is time to stand together as Americans” – determine you are going to work with all of us to make America truly a respected world leader, a country that lives up to the promises made by our constitution (you should read it sometime, very enlightening) and symbolized by the torch held high by the Statue of Liberty.
God Bless the United States of America!

Oh right. Blame everything on Bush. I forgot about that. A Category 5 Hurricane hits a city that’s built beneath sea level and that’s Bush’s fault. Hillary and Bill believed Iraq had WMD’s and that Sadam was an evil dictator but that was Bush’s fault too. I bet those terrorist attacks on the U.S. Marines in Beirut, the Iranian hostages, the attacks on the U.S. Cole and the Kenyan Embassy during Carter’s and Clinton’s presidency were all Bush’s fault too. I’m sure Bush’s SUV is the sole cause of global warming too.
Well I can promise you that Republicans will treat Obama better than Democrats have treated Bush. Pretty low hurdle to clear there.
In all seriousness though you Dems are in charge but this country is not the disaster you believe it to be. Why would everyone want to move here then?? Don’t turn the country into a big Baltimore city or Detroit. We don’t need that…it’s a bad model. Socialism and Marxism just don’t work and you all don’t really want to be dependent on the government to give you money because unfortunately the money won’t make it to most of you who voted for Obama. It’ll vanish into the government bureaucracy.

Sorry to say this Paul, you are stooping to a low. First no one said the Category 5 Hurricane was Bush’s fault what happened after it was his fault. No one said Iraq had WMD’s and that Saddam was an evil dictator was Bush’s Fault, but what came after was his. Bush took his eye off of our Number one Enemy OSAMA BIN LADEN. Did Iraq attack America, No OSAMA BIN LADEN DID. Have we captured OSAMA BIN LADEN, hell no we are in Iraq and Saddam is dead but the guy responsible for 9-11 is still a live, well and getting stronger. Was OSAMA BIN LADEN in Iraq? No he was in Afghanistan. Why the hell are we in Iraq? Oh yes those would be the lies that we the American People were told.
Hey does this sound familiar…
Biljana Plavsic, 70, known as the “Iron Lady of the Balkans” and president between 1996 and 1998, is due to appear before the War Crimes Tribunal on Thursday.
Plavsic will face charges of genocide, crimes against humanity, violations of the laws and customs of war, and grave breaches of the Geneva Convention.

Folks, the stock market will continue
to tank and it will affect EVERYONE,
not just the “richies”.
My husband began selling off our stock shortly
before the election because he and I knew
that it was likely Obama would be elected.
Thank goodness, we did!
If Pres-elect Obama had even bothered to
assure Wall Street as to what he planned to do sooner AND to move
quickly to appoint a treasury secretary.
(something he should have figured out
long before the election!!!!) maybe,
just maybe investors wouldn’t be freaking out now.
This man will be our president, but you
kool-aid drinkers don’t know a thing
about him??? How many of you could tell me
who he has associated with most of his
life? How about his voting record in the Illinois State senate. What about
his voting record in the U.S. senate
(143 days and mostly voted “present”)?
If you lean hard left then I applaud
you on your “pick”, because you’ll love
the economic disaster that will usher
in socialism, perhaps flavored with a
little Marxism!
And the rest of you, those who live in states like Ohio, PA, and voted for “change.. wait till your coal industry is shut down.. and unemployment sky rockets.
If you voted for Obama because you were
unhappy with the economy now….get
ready for a real roller coaster ride
for the next four years. Ever heard
of going from the frying pan into the
fire???
Bitter here? Nah….I made plans ahead of time for the gloomy doom to come. I never sipped the kool-aid.
Besides, Obama supporters shouldn’t mind the economy further deteriorating at break neck speed because we you get
a better deal now that THE WORLD SAYS
THEY LOVE THE US NOW!

Even after 8 years of a failed presidency, the brainwashed followers of Bush still look to place the blame elsewhere. Even with the slimmest majority in the Senate and Republicans filibustering everything in site, and Bush wielding his veto pen on anything that wasn’t HIS agenda … you people still want to blame everyone else. In case some of you hadn’t noticed, the economy has been in a downward spiral ever since Bush took office. He gave huge tax cuts to the rich and a child tax credit to the middle class. Didn’t the fall of Enron and all the scandals penetrate your skulls? This financial mess didn’t happen in the past 21 months. Neither did the skyrocketing gas prices. You had your chance for umpteen years (except for the Clinton years), and you blew it. Don’t put the blame on a man who hasn’t even taken office yet. Forget not, the corrupt fraud and his cronies who created this mess and still occupies the White House.

Cut your taxes, give you free health care, allow you to marry your same-sex partner, approve your abortion, let you experiment with stem cells, protect you from terrorists, increase your social security check, save your home from foreclosure, extend your unemployment benefits, increase the legal speed limit, force oil companies to lower gas prices, grant reparations to descendants of slaves and equal pay for women, repeal student loans, make your mother-in-law sweeter?

Take heart. For you it won’t matter what he does, so don’t stay up at night worrying whether he does the right thing. If he backs down, he’s a wimp. If he doesn’t, he’ll be a warmongering calculating politician.
The haters will always move the bar because Obama isn’t their guy. I’ll bet last week this commenter was thoroughly convinced Obama was a socialist terrorist radical. Now that he’s elected, such accusations dissolve into the silly nothingness.
Luckily for these guys, Obama can still by a wimp, incompetent, too partisan, not revolutionary enough, you name it.
Obama could double the mility budget, defund welfare, balance the budget, drill in Alaska, ban abortion, and scorch all national forests and it sill wouldn’t matter too you.

I’m glad to hear the President Elect is gathering his economic advisors today to get to the bottom of the economic crisis.
Here’s hoping he starts by taking a close look at Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. I’m sure this freak show of an administration will spend a lot of time investigating…..themselves?
Obama, Emanuel, Pelosi, Reid, Frank, Dodd, Waters, Meeks are in this up to their ears. Why have we had congressional hearings on AIG, Bear Stearns, Lehman, Roger Clemens, but not a peep about Freddie and Fannie?
The American people just got hoodwinked by a guy with no credentials, suspect associations, questonable views and a hard left agenda. Not only Afro-Americans voted for him, but Whites, Hispanics, Asian, Indians, Polynesian, Democrats, Independents and Republicans alike. Your team did not have a plan, they never had a platform of thier own. The McCain ticket ran on scare tactics and inciting hate as well as the past 8 years of Bush’s Policies 90% voting with Bush. The McCain Ticket said they had a plan, but never gave specifics nor details. Nothing new was given to the American People to mull over, we only heard attacks of others, lies told over and over again. We heard only half truths never any real concrete straight talk. The McCain Camp was all over the place, McCain is no longer a maverick he sold his soul to the GOP, he fought against many years ago. McCain was a maverick in the 2000 elections, when the GOP/Bush used on him what they tried on Obama to get Bush at the top of the Republican ticket. The only people the Republican have to blame for this loss is themselves. The Republicans need to regroup and go back to when they were respected, re the bible and learn from it. As for big Government and spending look how they strayed from that message, you can only go by the examples of today. High unemployment rate, the Biggest goverment in history, a record debit, Job loss at a all time high, banks crashing and burning, the bail out is a joke, the banks only used the money to buy out other banks and this is not what it was intended for. As the American Tax Payers I say make the Banks repay this bail out now. Why should they have all our money and not do with it what was intended? Then the FED’s hire the Guy that was in charge of risk management to head looking at banks that will fail. He could not even do this for the bank he worked for, be he can do it for the FED? What is wrong with this picture?

Its a sad day for America when a group of people will vote for someone solely because of the color of his skin and not on the issues and/or the truth. They will be disappointed when those promises slowly begin to fall apart. Racism is still alive, but its black racism that is very much alive.

I was asking a question Larry, you know what a question is don’t you?
And I voted for McCain over GW Bush in 2000, I would not do that in this election for McCain sold his soul to the GOP the maverick was lost in doing that.

Excellent judgement, George.
Obama needs now to surprise the establishment with a big name as his Secretary of State. Like Buffet… Not a conventional one.
One thing is certain; who ever runs the external relations department in the Obama administration should and will be under Joe Biden’s guidance. Or at least to share and embrace his foreign policy approach. Hopefully…

Us What you were dong against Maria surely wasn’t a question. You were trying to be smart and belittle her. Anyone with any intelligence would know she was referring to a group and not the entire voting total!!

Well then lets be honest there is a lot of Racism on all sides. White, Black, Hispanic, Asian, and so on…. We have proven over and over again that we all can not get along. And until we as a whole show tolerance to each other we will stay this way, because no one will teach thier children tolerance of others no matter what color they happen to be. In the Bible it states we are Brothers and Sisters, and no where does that state only if you are Black/White/Brown of color. Anthony thing is Obama is not going to give anyone a free ride, we all will have to work together to achieve greatness. Have you looked at the color make up of our armed forces lately. We are a mixed colored armed forces. So it is ok for people of all colors to fight and die for our freedoms here in America, but when they no longer wear the uniformed they are now considered Racist because of color?

Just remember one thing Democrats, Revenge is a dish best served cold.
for 8 years you fought us. Now you’ve won.
But consider this, a Confederate told a Union officer after 8 years of war, “Sir, we hate you.”
We hate you. May nothing but misforture come to you. Unity my a55.

For those of you posting misleading and unfinished reports about Rahm Emmanuel’s time at Freddie Mac you should hope your pants don’t catch on Fire for being that all too well known Neo-Con Liar.
Here’s what the ABC report includes in its conclusion:
The report also said board members appointed by the President, such as Emanuel, serve terms that are far too short “for them to play a meaningful role on the Board.”
And too Wilhelm and others: We love you!!!!!!
Hugs and kisses. XOXOXOX. mwah.

It will take someone as intelligent and as calm as Barack Obama to repair the damage that the Republicans have done.
There are few people I’d trust more than Obama to get the job done.
GO OBAMA

Is this the same Rahm Emmanuel that worked on the Board of Freddie Mac and was paid big bucks to watch the taxpayers backs???
Excuse me if I don’t drink the Kool Aid.

Clinton balanced the Budget and gave hope with his team. To bad his communication director turned on him as he resigned. Who knows he might have had a top job in the Obama Administration. One thing Rahm Emanuel knows is a turn coat. Good always wins over evil.
