Biden Casts His Ballot in Wilmington

ABC News’ Matthew Jaffe Reports: Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., accompanied by his wife Dr. Jill Biden, his mother Jean Finnegan Biden, and his daughter Ashley, voted at 8:55am Monday morning at the Tatnall School in Wilmington, just down the street from his house.

The Democratic vice-presidential nominee flashed two thumbs up as he left the voting booth, located just outside the school library. After his mother cast her ballot, Biden told her "Alright, mom, don’t tell them who you voted for."

A reporter asked the senator how he felt on this Election Day morning.

"Feeling good, feeling good", replied the Delaware lawmaker.

Biden, listed as "Joseph R. Biden Jr." on the ballot, was able to vote for himself twice, once for the Democratic presidential ticket and again for re-election as Delaware senator, a post he has held for the past 36 years.

A crowd of about 200 people gathered outside the school’s entrance, a mix of Democratic supporters and proponents of their Republican rivals, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

As he left the school, Biden told supporters, "Go get ‘em."

The senator now heads Richmond, Virginia for a quick stop en route to Chicago for an election night party with the man at the top of the ticket, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill.

37 Biden family members will make the trip to Chicago.

Boy, you Repugs are such sore losers.
Why can’t you just be like Bobe Dole.
Bob Dole was gracious in his defeat and you could just learn from him and be good sport.
This is politics guys. We must have a winer and a loser.
You are the losers unfortunately, but “can we all just get along?”.

My friends,
Thank you all for voting for my good friend Joe Biden.
When this is over, we’ll be good friends again.
Don’t be sore losers. I knew I couldn’t win anyway. Hold your heads high.
And remember, Sarah Palin will fight for us in 2012.

MSNBC, Hardball–last night
According to Chris Matthews, Obama intends to subsidize FICA payments through refundables, making Social Security cost-free or close to it, depending on income levels. As Barbour notes, that makes Social Security something very different than the pension plan it has been since its inception. That turns it into a welfare program on a massive scale, something FDR WARNED against when he created the program during the Depression.
In fact, it turns Social Security into a massive wealth-redistribution system rather than a pension plan. Surprise!

Well, no, I’m not from Chicago. I was born in Washington, D.C. I moved to Maryland when I was two. (so my parents moved me). When I was 22, I chose to move to Delaware. I weigh more than I should, and I’m short. I plan on redesigning my kitchen to accomodate this shortness some day. Is there anything else I need to clear up for you? Also, I voted for Mark Anthony Parks instead of Mike Castle, so no white senators or incumbants got my vote today.

Posted by: Kitty | November 4, 2008, 10:05 am 10:05 am

P.S. No white congressman got my vote today, either .. since Castle is actaully not a senator. They constantly switch positions (Carper and Castle) so it’s hard to keep track.

Posted by: Kitty | November 4, 2008, 10:10 am 10:10 am

I’m so glad this is ending. Now I hope, probably a futile gesture, that we can actually move past the culture wars and 14 years of intense partisan idiocy. No matter who wins, I’d really like to see a Government that actually accomplishes something, anything.

At the Math and Science Center in Richmond, Virginia, an early breakdown of electronic voting machines led to a three-and-a-half hour wait to vote on Tuesday morning, according to one poll watcher.
“Some people have been here since 6 a.m., and the first voters are just finishing now,” said Judith Browne-Dianis, adding that the Richmond location she was watching did not even have backup paper ballots in case of machine malfunction.
“They didn’t even have the paper ballots required by state law,” she said. “That’s not even something we were supposed to have to ask for. I went inside and asked the polling judge, and he said ‘we don’t have ‘em. They [the Board of Elections] were supposed to give ‘em to us, and they didn’t.’”
I AM SO MAD THAT THESE STATES DID NOT PROTECT THE RIGHT VOTE AND HAVE BACK UP PAPER TRAILS. IT IS NOT LIKE THEY HAVE NOT HAD 2 YEARS TO GET IT RIGHT!

Want a glimpse into a future Obama administration, just look back beginning on November, 2006 when the Dems took control of the House and Senate. Now combine that a President who will sign off everything brought forward by that same House and Senate..Point: If you enjoyed the past two years, 17% approval rate and lowest in history among the House and Senate, you going to love the next four years…Vote Independent..Vote Outside the Box, Make Change Not History

Cast my vote this morning as soon as the polls opened for Obama/Biden. So thrilled to have done it, too. I am very anxiously awaiting this evening’s results. I hope Sarah Palin understands now what “community organizers” can do. She is being shown an example on a rather grand scale and hopefully, she won’t belittle it anymore!!

Posted by: geecee | November 4, 2008, 11:19 am 11:19 am

You are right thank God we can vote. I voted for McCain – but if Sen. Obama winds – then guess what – he is my president and I will be just as proud of him.

George Bush has been in office for almost 8 years not. The first 6 years, he only vetoed 1 bill. In the last year and a half, he has vetoed 10. You can have all the will and determination you like in Congress, but there is only so much you can do with an idiot as president.
Obama – intelligence and reason for a change

Posted by: bb | November 4, 2008, 11:20 am 11:20 am

The only reason this Congress has gotten such poor approval ratings is because they took impeachment off the table and wouldn’t go after Bush/Cheney like they should have. They decided to take the high road inistead of what the Rethugs did to Clinton in his final two years in office. Yes, it was okay to impeach a guy for lying about having an affair, but not okay to impeach a guy about lying us into a War that has taken over 4,100 American lives so far. That’s why we disapproved of the Democratic-controlled Congress. But now that Congress will be getting a majority, maybe this next Congtress can actually get something done and not have every vote they pass vetoed by the President!!! Maybe they will actually be able to get something done for America. How about that?

Obama is an honest and nobal transi-tional figure, whose election to the presidential office will most certainly send a clear message to the rest of the world. This is a great thing, because although our leaders have not made the best decisions in the last few decades, both nationally, and internationally, it demonstrates that as humans we have most definitely erred, yet we have learned from the past and are ready to move forward as one race. That is, the human race. It is a great message to send to the world and may god bless us all. It is crucial that we understand that we are all a part of the same system, are interdependent on one anothe. It is important and very crucial to our survival that we learn to coexist, and appreciate our natural surroundings.

So for all you Obama supporters who cry for “Change” and assail Obama as the man to create it..make things better, what happens if he turns out to be just another politician who promises the world and delivers nothing but more misery. Are you willing to hold him to the same standards as you have held Bush? Are you willing to be a critic of your candidate like you were willing to do with Bush? Or is this a control issue…I am betting that there will be not one response to this question from one Democrat. McCain is a now issue at this point…VOTE INDEPENDENT

—Right, excellent post. He doesnt believe in the flag? Do you even know how ludicrous that sounds? Not only do I not take you seriously because your lack of proper grammar, but to say the country will suffer because someone doesn’t believe in the flag? The flag is tangible. You have no choice but to acknowledge its existence. Thumbs down.
