Biden Rips “Rovian” Republicans for “Personally Vicious” Tactics

ABC News Matthew Jaffe reports: Democrats have not carried Indiana since the Lyndon B. Johnson landslide of 1964, but just 72 hours before Election Day, Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., rallied voters in the Hoosier State, blasting the Republicans’ use of "Rovian", "personally vicious" campaign tactics.

"Over the last few weeks, John McCain’s campaign has gone way over the top, way over the top,” the Democratic vice-presidential nominee said Saturday morning in Evansville. "They are trying to take the low road to the highest office in the land."

For the past month, the Delaware lawmaker has consistently noted his frustration and dismay with his "good friend" McCain’s campaign, citing robo-calls linking Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., to former 60s radical Bill Ayres.

"It’s not only George Bush’s economic policies that John McCain has bought hook, line, and sinker," Biden said. "He’s also bought Karl Rove’s brand of political tactics. And it is disappointing. I never thought I’d see this from a McCain campaign."

Biden frequently states that McCain is now employing the same type of "scurrilous" attacks used against him in his failed 2000 bid for the GOP presidential nomination.

"I hope John ends this campaign with his strength," Biden had told reporters Friday at a Lima, Ohio, eatery, citing that McCain’s latest ad was "positive".

But just the next morning in Evansville, with Election Day looming on Tuesday, Biden’s optimism was long gone as he blasted the GOP’s tactics, warning that "it will probably get even worse in the last three days".

"Ladies and gentlemen, they’re calling Barack Obama every name in the book," railed Biden. "They are going out in a way that I don’t, I don’t recall it being more personally vicious."

The six-term senator said Friday he hopes his friendship with his Capitol Hill colleague McCain was still "intact", but with this long, hard-fought, hotly-contested election fight wearing down, it is clear that the campaign trail clashes has taken its toll on the two rival lawmakers’ relationship.

"I’ve known John a long time," Biden said to the crowd gathered in a downtown intersection of this southwestern Indiana city. "It is genuinely – I mean this sincerely – it is genuinely disappointing, genuinely disappointing, that we continue to play this game.”

"We’ve had enough of this stuff," he bellowed. "Enough!"

Following his Evansville event, the Democratic veep candidate crossed over to neighboring Ohio, where he will hold two rallies this evening before flying south to Florida, site of three Sunshine State speeches Sunday.

On Monday, Biden will have a morning event in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, near Kansas City, seeking to rally Show-Me State supporters on the eve of Election Day.

I just saw this comment elsewhere:
The LA Times seems to think it’s not in the public interest what went on at the Jew bashing party Barack Obama attended at his friend Rashid Khalidi’s house.
I was thinking…if the LA Times doesn’t want Americans to know, maybe Professor Khalidi will let us know.

Hey americanpatriot,
Why not hold McCain’s feet to the fire and demand to know why he funded Khalidi’s work to the tune of half a million dollars?
Obama showed up at a party for the guy; McCain PAID a half-million dollars for the guy to do his work.
Doesn’t that make McCain more responsible for the work Khalidi has done?
Moreover, do you actually KNOW anything about the work Khalidi has done?
No?
Didn’t think so.

FYI:
State declares Obama birth certificate genuine
HONOLULU (AP) — State officials say there’s no doubt Barack Obama was born in Hawaii.
Health Department Director Dr. Chiyome Fukino said Friday she and the registrar of vital statistics, Alvin Onaka, have personally verified that the health department holds Obama’s original birth certificate.
Fukino says that no state official, including Republican Gov. Linda Lingle, ever instructed that Obama’s certificate be handled differently.
She says state law bars release of a certified birth certificate to anyone who does not have a tangible interest.
Earlier Friday, a southwest Ohio magistrate rejected a challenge to Obama’s citizenship. Judges in Seattle and Philadelphia recently dismissed similar suits.

Dear americanpatriot (and I use that term very loosely),
You have obviously made up your mind already on this issue. Your tone is so obvious. Why don’t you report that McCain is taking money from convicted felons? I know why – it is the name Barak Obama (doesnt sound american).
I wonder what McCain feels about Al-Queda backing him for president? Yes, it is on their website – do a google search for it. They obviously believe that McCain will continue in the same vein as Bush – so they will keep getting volunteers for suicide missions.
If we want to be treated as a World Leading nation, not spoilt little kids pouting in the corner having a hissy-fit, we need to deal with these people openly and straight on. This is the only way this will be ended. Take away the reason they are fighting – take away their fight.

John McCain, there was an opportunity for you to really redeem yourself and the legacy of the GOP, you could have spent these last few days campaigning on issues and policies. Instead you have decided to attack a man who has dedicated his entire adult life to public service. You joined the military because it was expected of you, you finished bottom of your class because you did not care about your education and your family name promised you a fast track. Sir, you do not love America, the idea of America is so far beyond your understanding you don’t even see how your campaign has sought to destroy America. Senator McCain, I urge you to read the Constitution, not to see how much much it can be stretched before it breaks but for the glorious document that it is. There is a reason why it is this document the President swears to protect and defend because this document IS America. America is supposed to be a land of tolerance and freedomm sir, you represent neither American value, you are part of the ” If you aren’t with us you are against us” crowd, where patriotism is defined by submission to the status quo. I denounce and reject you Senator McCain and Govenor Palin and the GOP and anyone else who questions my patriotism because I refuse to cowtow to their point of view, I’m a Proud American, and we don’t cowtow to petty wannabe despots.

Here we have the McCain campaign’s execrable Michael Goldfarb slinging around accusations of anti-semitism–a favorite pastime, as we’ve seen this year, among Jewish neoconservatives. …Khalidi is…a respected academic, the sort of person who is involved in foundation work that John McCain, for one, was willing to support financially. I’d say that if we have a bigot here, it’s Mr. Goldfarb.

I guess McCain does not care that he is further dividing the country. “Country First”..my butt!! His only concern is winning! How sad that a man who was viewed as honourable & a true reformer would stoop to the level of personal attacks. Obama has never used persoanl attacks…only attacked on policies as it should be! McCain will go down losing his honour. But,that was his choice to make.

2007
Interviewer: How do you convince people to change their lifestyles, to live differently, or to turn the question on its ear, are voters ahead of the politicians on this stuff? Do they get it, and maybe the politicians don’t?
Obama: Well, I think, uh, I think voters do understand it. I think it is important for us to send some price signals to change behavior.
Is that the function of government — to fix prices as a punitive measure to change consumer behavior? It will be in an Obama administration. He and a few elites will decide which consumer behaviors are bad, and penalize it with price signals. That usually means taxes or tariffs that drive the cost upwards. I’d guess that Obama IS NOT celebrating the fact that a gallon of gasoline will likely fall below $2 per gallon sometime this week.
When have we seen government send “price signals to change behavior” before? Oh, yes — in the LENDING markets. When government wanted more loans given to RISKY borrowers for political purposes, they sent “price signals” to lenders by having Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac buy up tons of subprime paper, and then mandated their conversion to SECURITIES to send “price signals” to investors. How did those “price signals” work out for taxpayers, consumers, and investors? Pretty devastating.
We’ve already had enough “price signals” from government to last a lifetime. We need government to get out of the “price signals” business and get back to normal regulation. Barack Obama revealed himself in this interview as the kind of politician who wants to manipulate markets for his own political ends, and is clueless about how disastrous those actions will prove.

Andrew Malcolm, LA Times
—That would be a cheesy hardball — and quite possibly counterproductive — CHICAGO kind of thing for a frontrunner to do, especially one on a national unity ticket. A candidate’s organization would have to reflect an enormous ego and over-confidence to pull something like that.
Next thing you know such a campaign might urge supporters to clog a radio station’s phone lines or e-mail boxes just because it gave air-time to an Obama critic. Of course, they did that, too.
And it’s certainly not the kind of hands-across-the-aisle, bipartisan change we need and/or can believe in a national capital that could use a large dose of both.—
Malcolm sees what the Tanning Bed Media has largely missed in the general election. Barack Obama has no interest in bipartisanship or reaching across the aisle. He wants power, and Obama hits back ruthlessly to those who challenge his bid for it. The reporters who got their seats cancelled on O Force One got off easy; Stanley Kurtz, David Freddoso, and Jerome Corsi all had the presidential campaign target them for open character assassination.

Obama could have talked endlessly about the Keating 5, he didn’t.
He could have talked about McCain’s connections and friendship with Gordon Liddy. He didn’t.
He could have talked about McCain’s board membership to a group that contains Nazi sympathizers and ties to terrorists. He didn’t.
He could have talked about McCain’s cheating on his disabled wife to hook up with an airhead heiress. He didn’t.
He could have talked about McCain’s donation of large money sums to Kahlidi, he didn’t.
He could have talked about McCain’s poor service record, including the crashing of three jets, and graduation at the bottom of his class, or the automobile accident that was covered up. He didn’t.
He could have talked about the anti-American propoganda tapes McCain made while a prisoner in Vietnam, he didn’t.
He could have talked about McCain eating birthday cake while the people in New Orleans died, but he didn’t.
There is oh, so much more, including radical preachers etc. but Obama did not go there. McCain has never, ever stopped for a moment to NOT go there, he just went. Such a shame. Sorry McCain, a true uniter doesn’t behave in such a manner, and we need a uniter.

2003, CBS interview. Hold on to your wallets!
“Well, you know the problem was is that they weren’t targeted at the short term stimulus of the economy. What we should have done is if we were going to initiate tax cuts, and I’m a strong supporter of tax cuts for working families like the Earned Income Tax Credit, to initiate things like cuts in the Social Security tax, and other taxes that are really burdensome on families that are making 50, 60, 70 thousand dollars a year. Those tax cuts I think would have stimulated the economy.”
The EITC reference is interesting. That’s a refundable, rather than a tax cut. It’s basically a redistributive tool, although one with broad bipartisan support. No one ever talks about ending the EITC, or at least not seriously enough to matter. It does reflect Obama’s inclination to rely on refundables rather than actual rate cuts, which reflects on his current tax plans.
Obama’s top end for cuts certainly changed dramatically. If he thought that tax cuts should be limited to $70K in 2003, he hasn’t explained what changed in the following five years to move that to $250K then $200K then $150K then $120K. Obama could have simply changed his mind, but the ambiguity surrounding Democratic talking points in the past few weeks suggests that his commitment to the higher income levels is tenuous at best.

WHY I AM VOTING FOR SEN. OBAMA SO AS TO FURTHER THE AGENDA OF DR. RON PAUL
October 30, 2008
SUMMARY
I love and respect Dr. Ron Paul and Ms. Carol Paul. They are wise, loving and courageous.
I am voting for Senator Obama because if I vote for my candidate of choice, Dr. Ron Paul, we might see a repeat of the last election and end up with a warmongering, inarticulate, Republican warmongering President who never really had to live in my shoes as a member of the struggling middle-class.
I believe that the American People are slowly becoming wise enough to see through the blatant manipulation of election results by the mainstream media that is owned and controlled by big business and by the two reigning political parties.
I am confident that by the next Presidential election in 2012 that the majority of American Citizens will know about:
1) the beliefs and record of Dr. Ron Paul;
2) the weakness of our present two party system; and
3) the existence and party platforms of other alternatives such as Green, Constitution and Libertarian parties. I am confident that the REVOLUTION Dr. Ron Paul started against the big business controlled media and two reigning political parties will continue to benefit our nation for the greater good.
MY RATIONALE
Socialist Universal Health Insurance
I say – BRING IT ON! Our present health care system benefits big business and illegal aliens, not the American citizen or the American health care providers. I have lived without health insurance and I know from personal experience that the present system degrades the health of American Citizens on a daily basis. Once all Americans have health care – without the huge glut of illegal aliens – we can consider other options as Dr. Paul suggests. I see it as a possible evolution from where we are now to where we and Dr. Paul wants us to be.

How does a campaign that utilizes negative campaign ads attack the other campaign for using negative attack ads – either the tactic is legitimate or its not. When you engage in the tactic yourself – you lose the ability to credibly smear the other campaign for doing the same thing. Pure rubbish.

Dear Reaganfan,
As is the usual case you only use parts of what Joe Biden says that suit your purpose! Joe Biden said that Obama would be tested by a foreign crisis and found to have steel in his spine!
About the same time veteran Pentagon consultant Michael Bayer said that there would likely be a foreign crisis in the first 270 days of the next administration no matter who was elected.
It will be the first waritme transfer of Pentagon political authority in 40 years and the military will be on high alert.
The key goal will be to fill in the top 3 tiers of civilian posts that require Senate confrimation in the first 30 days.
You see these are what you call “facts” instead of just slinging slime.

Karl Rove will burn in the black hole. He will be with Hitler who is Rove’s hero. Rove and Hitler have very similar backgrounds. Both had fathers who abandoned them at an early age, and left them with weak and ill mothers. Cheney took Rove under his wing in the Nixon administration, and Rove learned “Dirty Richard” Nixon tricks from Cheney. Cheney probably isn’t going to live much longer since his heart keeps going out, and he has a very weak heart, from his heartless and alcoholic addiction. Rove says he is from Texas but he was born in Utah and he doesn’t even have a college degree. He is allowed to teach in universities without a college degree. What is that all about? Who wants to learn from a man who doesn’t even have a college degree, much less a master’s? Rove doesn’t even go to church. He is an agnostic, just like Hitler. Both Hitler and Rove like white supremist skinheads and only associate with white people. Rove probably had Kennedy killed by his white supremist crowd. Rove doesn’t like Catholics.
So these negative smears are coming from Rove, and Cheney. I don’t even have any respect for Arnold Schwartzennegger any more. He’s nothing more than a has been steroid body builder who has had so many women in addition to Maria. If I were Maria, I would take a second look. He ain’t no brut. His veins are ugly and his skin looks plastic. Talk about ugly, he surely is ugly, and has a foreign accent that you would think by now he would speak English. They aren’t American and certainly aren’t Patriotic. They are all scum and belong to the Communist Republican Right Regime party.
Does Rove have any relatives in our country that we don’t know about — some long lost aunt of his father’s? Does Cheney have some relationship to Jesse James relative hidding out in the Montana bad lands robbing our banks and financial institutions? And most of all does Arnie have illegal relatives in our country, with many illegal immigrants who he lets them live in California, while he looks the other way? We had better take another look at McCain.Palin and their relationships.
Does Irish McCain have an IRA terrorist relative who comes into our country from time to time doing hits on Americans? I think we had better do a 24 hour background check on McCain.Palin since we can’t trust the FBI and CIA. They only do things for Cheney.Bush, I mean that are not so good things. They may kill innocent Americans, you know, long range hit men relatives from the McCain Irish Repulican Army of Ireland.
We need to check very closely and with accuracy to make sure McCain.Palin have any relationships with known hit men: One Irish of IRA and the other of Russian mafia. They just can’t be trusted. Would you trust your children with them, hardly.

The “steel in his spine” comment

Nothing the Obama Campaign puts out
is a fact!
The figure for Obama’s tax policy
has gone from no tax increase for
people making less than $250,000 a year
to no tax increase for people making
less than $200,000 a year to no tax
increase for people making less than

“What I want to do Joe, is spread the wealth.” “What I wish would have happened after the civil rights act was signed, that the judiciary system had been able to redistribute . . .” Where are all of your heads at! Never mind, I think I know where they are. Pull your heads out and try to smell beyond the pot that your smoking. Barack Obama is out for his own agenda. We have learned more about his strategy for “change” in this last week, than we’ve learned in these last six months. There is a saying “Tell me who you go with, and I’ll tell you what you are.” Has he sat in Reverend Wright’s congregation for 20 years? YES. Has he been seen hanging around Bill Ayers? YES. Has there been audio released that he would like to see things “redistributed” in the country? Oh my God, (wait, am I still allowed to us that phrase?), people WAKE UP! You need to stop drinking the red kool-aid. Can anyone of you seriously afford to be taxed more? That is what will happen if the GREAT OBAMA were to be voted in. But, in all truth and honesty, why worry, it really is the lobbyists who run this country. No one picked up on Barack after Sarah Palin was chosen as the republican running mate when BO said “and She thinks She can change the lobbyists in Washington?” That right there should tell us everything. He knows that he really can’t do anything with the lobbyists either. Just let me tell all of you BO supporters that for the last two years there have been democrats who have ran this poor excuse of “congress”, and it’s been democrats who have ran the senate. Isn’t congress and the senate the true bodies that make up how the country is to be ran. I think this country has really fallen apart in the last two years, and you want to blame one loan republican sitting in the oval office for the muck that the “damacrats” have put us in. Like I said earlier, pull your heads out and smell the air . . . because if you don’t, we’re all in for a really bumpy ride. Oh by the way, do we know if BO’s aunt, who is in the country illegally, has been sent back to Kenya yet? I wonder if the damacrats used the same Ohio computers to investigate her as well as Joe the Plumber?

Posted by: Madasheck | November 2, 2008, 12:03 am 12:03 am

reaganfan,
I got my facts from reading a transcript of what Joe Biden said. It wasn’t put out by the Obama campaign, it came in a Google alert! And by the way you didn’t mention the Pentagon assessment, but I guess that didn’t fit in with your smear.
Funny the right wing should mention taxes, seeing as how your people started an unnecessary war and paid for it on credit. Remember what Bush said to do after 9/11? he said, “Go shopping”! I guess that was the most patriotic thing he could come up with. The only people asked to scrifice were those in the military, whose bodies coming back from Iraq he has hidden from public view – out of sight, out of mind, I guess.
I guess your party has been pretty good at encouraging everyone to run up their credit, until the whole thing came crashing down! Now the Democrats have to come along and figure out how to pay for your mess!
Also, as to political parties…..We were Independents. We changed to Democrats this year to support Joe Biden in the Primary! Eight years of Bush DROVE me and my husband to it!
Let’s see where the parties are NOW, when it counts. Oh, the Republicans are run by the Neocons and the Evangelicals. They seem to believe in war, and bullying, and shoving their religious beliefs down everyone else’s throats, and, oh yes, they believe they own patriotism too!
Where are the Democrats NOW? We are mad as hell and we aren’t going to take it anymore! We want to rebuild this country. It seems that the money got spent on Iraq, while our infrastructure is crumbling. We may just put people to work that are now flooding unemployment offices, courtesy of the last 8 years of decline. Sorry if that involves government intervention. Sorry if the people who got the tax breaks for 8 years may have to pay up. Bush thought it was patriotic to “go shopping” but we think it is patriotic to pay your way. We think there is a great opportunity to go into the 21st century focusing on the green industries of the future instead of still trying to make the same old blueprint fit a new paradigm – you know, square peg, round hole.
I think that will suffice for now.
Go Obama/Biden!

Anyone here believe that Axelrod isn’t a student of Karl Rove? If you say he isn’t you’re just deluding yourself. Like I’ve said before, Rove can’t hold a candle to Axelrod.
McCain was on a committee that approved that money for polling and thus helping to get the ball rolling for the Palestinians’ bid for independence on the West Bank.
This was back in the days when the image of the PLO and Yassir Arafat was being made over and sanitized. It is no surprise that even Liberal and moderate Republicans would be aboard for that program, especially given the hardships suffered by the Palestinian people.
But, every time they attack Israel and kill and maim innocent people, that detracts from whatever sympathy they have managed to gain. Think about Munich…they could have just let those Israeli athletes go after receiving world-wide attention. They would have done some jail time, but all those involved would be alive and their cause would have received much more sympathy by many more people.
There is also a difference between trying to aid an organization that purports to be turning over a new leaf, and actually sitting at a farewell dinner when the guy says that existence of Israel was a mistake in the first place.

Sure it’s Bush’s fault that people don’t live within their means and bought houses that they can’t afford. Run up credit card debt that they can’t repay. Sure when I did that in 1998 after a divorce and had to file for bankrupcy it was Bill Clintons fault.

Obama was spiritually mentored in black liberation theology for 20 years at Reverend Wrights church. If you take a look into this you will see that it’s anti semitic, anti white, and MARXIST. To Obama and the MARXIST drones who follow him the end will justify the means. Redistribution of others money will just be the start. You notice how he inadvertently spilled that one what else hasn’t he shared. I hope we don’t find out.

But I believe that when you really look at the tax code today, the very wealthy, because they can afford tax lawyers and all kinds of loopholes, really don’t pay nearly as much as you think they do when you just look at the percentages. And I think middle-income Americans, working Americans, when the account and payroll taxes, sales taxes, mortgage pay — all of the taxes that working Americans pay, I think they — you would think that they also deserve significant relief, in my view…

Posted by: JohnM | November 2, 2008, 9:33 am 9:33 am

And that’s the reason to not support these Lib tax hikes on the wealthy.
The Dems will expect X number of dollars in the coffers, and when there’s a shortfall, they’ll say, “Hmmm, well I guess we need to raise everybody’s taxes.” And, of course, the very wealthy will still have their tax shelters and loopholes-and the average Joe will get stuck once again.

I have been disgusted with the despicable campaign McCain – Palin have run!!
They continue to push the fear, hate mongering message and promote same with robocalls, mailed fliers, etc.
These two do not care for Americans. They could care less they may cause riots, cause beatings, racial hate, etc. Someone may actually get killed.
Worse yet – Bush controlled FBI has kept tight lid on public knowing how hateful their crowds are. McCain and Palin continue their enticement of rage!! Occasionally news has gotten through though. Crowds are very angry!! They are just waiting to flip out!!
I am a Republican white woman that has had it with this party at age 64.

Well Sharonklim, your alzheimers’ is starting to show. There is no fear (which paranoia is a symptom on alzheimers)in what McCain or Palin is stating. They are just simply stating that they will put a freeze on government spending, they will work to make sure that people have a job (and get the lazy people off of welfare), to lower taxes, to make sure that it’s alright to have a business for yourself and to have money for yourself. The fear should lie within BO openly saying that he wants to spread the wealth (marxist thinking) and to give the judiciary system more power to redistribute. Sharon, can you honestly sit there and type the rhetoric that you just spatted? Seriously, take all of the sound bites that have been taken from both Biden and Obama, and really pay attention to what they stand for. You’ll truly be enlightened, but of course, take your medication first so your brain isn’t so clouded.

Biden tell you something its the truth and if they tell you to jump you ask how high. Keep on working because you have to work till your a least 67 and then you still have to work because SS is not enough to live on. But I hope your employer does not lay you off come January 2009 after Sen. Obama /Sen. Biden get into office. Then what will you do?????

Taxes, Taxes, and more Taxes is what you will see. The tax base from business and personel income taxes is shrinking. The MYTH that those making 250k and above are going to make up the shortfall is a MYTH. You can see your already being warmed up by recent comments of 150k and 120k and don’t be surprised by what the definition of rich is in 2009. Taxes, Taxes, and more Taxes is what you will see.

No wonder BO could put a half hour’s paid commercial on tv the other night. He’s charging his people to put signs in their yards. STOP DRINKING THE KOOL-AID, IT HAS POISON IN IT. Pay attention people, you’re paying for signs today, you’ll be taxed to death and won’t have a dime later. As Joe Biden would put it, “mark my words . . . “

The most important and serious issue today for the whole world is this Third World War, which the Crusader-Zionist coalition began against the Islamic nation. It is raging in the land of the two rivers. The world’s millstone and pillar is in Baghdad, the capital of the caliphate.” (Text Of Bin Laden’s Audio Message To Muslims In Iraq, Posted On Jihadist Websites, 12/28/04)

Bin Laden: “The Whole World Is Watching This War And The Two Adversaries; The Islamic Nation, On The One Hand, And The United States And Its Allies On The Other. It Is Either Victory And Glory Or Misery And Humiliation.” (Text Of Bin Laden’s Audio Message To Muslims In Iraq, Posted On Jihadist Websites, 12/28/04
Ayman al-Zawahiri: We Must “Establish An Islamic Authority … Over As Much Territory As You Can To Spread Its Power In Iraq … [And] Extend The Jihad Wave To The Secular Countries Neighboring Iraq.” ZAWAHIRI: “So we must think for a long time about our next steps and how we want to attain it, and it is my humble opinion that the Jihad in Iraq requires several incremental goals: The first stage: Expel the Americans from Iraq. The second stage: Establish an Islamic authority or emirate, then develop it and support it until it achieves the level of a caliphate – over as much territory as you can to spread its power in Iraq … The third stage: Extend the jihad wave to the secular countries neighboring Iraq. The fourth stage: It may coincide with what came before: the clash with Israel, because Israel was established only to challenge any new Islamic entity.” (Complete Text Of Al-Zawahiri Letter To Al-Zarqawi, 7/9/05, Available At: http://www.dni.gov/press_releases/20051011_release.htm, Accessed 9/5/06)

——-BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA———-
2. Barack Hussein Obama on Iraq War:
“Surge strategy has made a difference in Iraq but failed.”
Q: Is Petraeus correct when he says that the troop increase is
bringing security to Iraq?
A: There is no doubt that because we put American troops in Iraq, more American troops in Iraq, that they are doing a magnificent job. They are making a difference in certain neighborhoods. But the overall strategy is failed because we have not seen any change in behavior among Iraq’s political leaders. That is the essence of what we should be trying to do in Iraq. That’s why I’m going to bring this war to a close. That’s why we can get our combat troops out within 16 months and have to initiate the kind of regional diplomacy, not just talking to our friends, but talking to our enemies, like Iran and Syria, to try to stabilize the situation there. This year, we saw the highest casualty rates for American troops in Iraq since this war started. The same is true in Afghanistan. If we have seen a lowering violence rate, that’s only compared to earlier this year. We’re back to where we started back in 2006.
Source: 2007 Democratic debate in Las Vegas, Nevada Nov 15, 2007
Q: If you get us out of Iraq and somehow al Qaeda takes over anyway, what will you do then?
A: Well, look, if we had followed my judgment originally, we wouldn’t have been in Iraq. We’re here now. And we’ve got no good options. We got bad options and worse options. The only way we’re going to stabilize Iraq and make sure that al Qaeda does not take over in the long term is to begin a phased redeployment so that we don’t have anti-American sentiment as a focal point for al Qaeda in Iraq. We can still have troops in the region, outside of Iraq, that can help on counterterrorism activities, and we’ve got to make sure that they don’t establish long-term bases there. But right now, the bases are in Afghanistan and in the hills between Afghanistan and Pakistan; that’s where we’ve got to focus.
Source: 2007 AFL-CIO Democratic primary forum Aug 8,2007
A short message from Radarsite: Anyone who has read the captured correspondence of the Al-Qaeda leaders concerning the importance that they attach to Iraq, and the central role that Iraq plays in their scheme for a world-wide Caliphate knows how delighted they would be if we followed the advice of Barrack Hussein Obama, and shifted our focus and resources from the oil-rich center of gravity in Iraq, the universally acknowledged keystone to the Middle East, to the mountainous wastelands of Afghanistan.
It is the opinion of this writer, that if we abandoned the Land of the Two Rivers to the enemy now, the long-term strategic consequences of this monumental blunder for our GWOT would be nothing less than disastrous. The idea that we could somehow return to the area if it at some point in the future it became infested with Al-Qaeda is at best naive and ludicrous, and at worst naggingly suspect.
Nothing would suit our enemies in Iraq better than a publicly proclaimed schedule of withdrawal of our troops and their eventual complete pullout.
To this particular observer the absurdity of this plan, which so obviously plays into our enemy’s game presents us with one of two troubling alternatives: Either it was purposely designed to enhance the chances for our defeat in this crucial region of the Middle East and enhance the capabilities of our sworn Al-Qaeda enemies, or it is the dangerously delusional bumblings of a hopeless amateur.

Madasheck & Hippie smasher,
What’s the matter? Don’t you people believe in paying your way?

Posted by: Donna Hughes | November 2, 2008, 2:31 pm 2:31 pm

Donna , “as one of those people” to quote you if you mean someone who works for a living yes. If you mean someone who takes personal responsibilty for my actions and the decisions I’ve made in life and doesn’t blame society , or the goverment then yes. I do pay taxes so people like you don’t have to.

Posted by: Hippie Smasher | November 2, 2008, 3:19 pm 3:19 pm

Hippie smasher,
We pay our taxes. Our place is paid for, and not mortgaged. We bought our new Yaris outright. It gets great mileage and isn’t an irresponsible gas-sucker. We pay our 2 credit cards off every month.
In short, we believe in paying our way, not running up lots of credit, like the Bush administration has done. Now it is time for the wealthy people who have been enjoying a tax cut for the last 8 years to pay their way too.

Posted by: Donna Hughes | November 2, 2008, 3:52 pm 3:52 pm

Now Donna, let’s be real. I do pay for my way in society. In fact, I paid over $1,700 in a capital gains tax last year. I also believe that the government reached into my last pay check and took money out (and I’m not talking just FICA taxes). Please Donna, you don’t have to whine because my fellow damacrats (as I am a registered damacrat) have totally fooled you. As I said earlier, STOP DRINKING THE RED KOOL-AID, there’s poison in there. Don’t be jealous of me either, just because I choose to read through the media’s fine lines. When Joe Biden and the BO camp refused Barbara West in Florida any further interviews because she insisted on asking the hard ball questions, and moving off the script that the damacrat party so knowingly give the media, should tell you that their campaign is ran on nothing but deceit. When they’ve been caught unwittingly giving their true agenda they won’t answer the questions and stick their heads up your “you know what”. The BO camp have left themselves extremely wide open when they don’t answer these questions. Can you honestly tell me what change BO wants to give this country. If he truly wanted change he wouldn’t have picked a running mate who has been in the senate since the early 1970′s, and who also happens to be one of the most “liberal” damacrats (behind BO) in the senate. I have one question to ask of Biden though, isn’t his son a lobbyist for one of the biggest credit card companies on the east coast? Now you want to blame the republicans for the credit card mess that we’re in, please check your facts before you go whining. Because for as much whine as you have, I’m going to need a lot of cheese and crackers to soak it all up.

Posted by: Madasheck | November 2, 2008, 3:57 pm 3:57 pm

By the way Donna, just read your last post. I have my vehicle paid for also, and I don’t believe in using credit cards. I’ve seen what credit cards can do to a person’s life. If I don’t have the means to pay for something fully at the time, then I don’t purchase it. In the future, please be careful with asking hardworking people if they don’t believe in paying for their way. But I think you really meant to ask “don’t you believe in paying for other people’s way?” But if you want, I’ll let you pay for them all by yourself.

I guess character does not matter to you. You condone all the dem’s PR and surrogates to constantly speak over other people, trying to smother non consent voices. You do not care for the news that Biden’s son and brother have to deal with two law suits worth well over $1 mil because they allegedly (in fairness that you are totally missing)defrauded that amount dealing as lobbyists on a hedge fund deal. You do not care, that Biden asked his son a brother to give up their jobs and company so he can patriotically and selflessly run for president w/out potentially being accused of having ties w/lobbyists. You do not care that what Judge Judy tells about the teenagers (When their mouth moves they are lying) applies to Messiah as well. A little paraphrase: What I said is that nobody making less than $250,000 will pay more taxes. That was on Monday. On Tuesday I said: I will cut taxes for 95% of people, 95%! On Wednesday I have threaten all people making less than $250,000 with a $1,000 check back, although on Thursday I said that the ones with no tax liability will get nothing. But than again, it occurred to me on Friday, that those 44% that pay no taxes at all are the ones perhaps turning against me and might be peed of at me, so I quickly promised them the check back. On Saturday I sent Joe my friend Biden out to make sure the message is convoluted some more and finally on Sun day I went to see reverend Wright and seek absolution.
Since you are such a staunch Obama’s defenders I am sure you will not mind to answer a few questions:
*Every single legal immigrant that came to US in the last 30-35 years is painfully aware of illegal immigrants from the same country he/she came from. Each one of us knows a number of them and the word about them gets around much faster one would imagine. How it is that Obama knew nothing, given his in not so distant past contact with Auntie?
*99% of us, legal emigrants, when we had a visitor, be it family member or friend, made darn sure that the visitor boarded the plane to return back home. Are we to believe that Auntie came for inaugural and than went on her own to throttle the country?
*How easy/difficult is it to get a unit in public housing? In Boston? What kind of documents is needed to request one? Did auntie produce them?
*What kind of screwed-up spineless character in Obama’s campaign came out with the idea of credit card security check avoidance with the obvious approval from Obama in order to accept illegal contributions?
*What kind of “Look out for country and Americans” can we expect from Obama’s administration – since he demonstrated over and over again zero, nil, nada interest in his own family?
*And finally, how are you going to like me telling you about socialized medicine I knew. No appointment necessary – nobody would give you one anyway – sit and wait to see the doctor for hours at the time. No choice of doctor. The doctor was assigned to the citizens by the area of permanent residence. If you were lucky, you’ve got a good one. With less luck you’ve got a mediocre one. With no luck you’ve got one that you would rather avoid, but you couldn’t. No choice. Since everybody was paid by the government the good doctors got the exactly same salary as the bad ones. Since nobody was paid enough to live on, and the attention to ones needs was difficult to come by, you bribed to get the attention you wanted and needed. And afterward you gave what was called gratuity. In the meantime you networked very well. Who knows who, who owes whom, who is who’s uncle. I do not like his plan, I am not enchanted with McCain’s one either. However, to enable people to get insurance as opposed to mandate insurance sounds better to me. I would like to see a law that would let small businesses get into an insurance pool – that would considerably lower the premium rates. At one point there was a discussion to that effect, but the proposal was killed before it really was able to take hold. I also would like to see a solid revision of the medicaid/medicare contracted rates for different services and supplies. There should be a cap to the size of judgments for malpractice. On the other hand that might be a mute point, as with socialized medicine there will not be any more malpractice lawsuits. Therefore the profession of ambulance chasing layers will become obsolete. We will no longer be forced to watch their day-in and day-out advertisements on the TV offering all kind of class action law suits that are of little benefit to the sick ones.
Should anyone be able to come up with coherent responses to my question I will be happy to entertain that point of view.
For right now I agree that we have a better chance for change with Obama in office; I disagree that it is going to be positive.
that it is going to be positive.

Oh my God (oh there I go again, can I use that phrase still?), what will John Edwards do then for a living if he’s not able to practice as an “ambulance chaser”. He’ll be on welfare too. See what socialized health care will do, it’ll kill another profession. WHAT’S THIS WORLD COMING TO???

Rose, Biden did not say the steel comment in that statement he said that seperatly a couple of weeks ago, so get your facts right. And if you all are so non negative why are you spewing dementia comments and fluff comments about McCain and Palin? Practice what you preach oops I mixed religion and politics so sorry.

Donna,
Glad to hear you pay taxes. Not sure what bracket you are in, but feel free to send more to the IRS whenever the mood strikes. As for me, I think giving roughly 40% in total taxes is more than paying my fair share. And, unlike you, I don’t have “rich people envy” that makes me want to take more from someone simply because they make more than I do. The kicker….I really have a problem with my taxes going up so that others do not pay anything or even worse…those not paying anything now get money back….my hard earned money. Feel free to send yours, but you and Mr. Obama need to stay away from mine.

Seems like the MSM was scooped again, it seems the Times did not get the story from the Vast Right Wing as Sen. Clinton calls them.
It looks like just good old research by hardworking reporters to find Sen. Obama’s Aunt based on, wait for it, his book and references to his family in Kenya.

This is only my opinion…..I believe Obama’s popularity is because the majority of his supporters are very simplistically minded. Now hold on a minute. I do not mean this in any negative way….hear me out please……My mother, father-in-law and some others around me, are voting for Obama based on a very simple minded belief. I see a trend with Obama supporters.Ummm, I better stop here.
