Biden Shows Cub Scouts Around His Plane

Before boarding his plane in Tallahassee, Fla., Sunday afternoon, Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., spotted a group of Tiger Cub Scouts visiting the airport firehouse on a field trip.

"You guys are so nice, now what are you guys doing today?" Biden asked them.

"We looked at a fire station and…and now we’re going to go look at the plane," replied one of the boys.

"Oh man, you’re gonna look at a plane?" said Biden. "Well, I don’t know, maybe you can come over and look at our plane. You guys wanna come and see my plane?"

"Yeah!" the boys shouted in unison.

So after getting permission from their parents, the veep nominee then walked the blue-and-orange clad group over to his charter jet.

As they walked along the tarmac, one boy told Biden, "I heard of you on TV."

"No kidding?" replied the veep nominee.

"You’re Barack Obama’s running mate."

"Yeah, I’m Barack Obama’s running mate," Biden replied. "Come on, we’re gonna go over here. We’ll take you inside and show you, OK? I’m gonna get in trouble, but come on."

Biden and the boys then bounded up the steps on the large blue plane, where the senator gave the scouts a tour of the cockpit.

"Are all those people taking video cameras of you?" one boy asked Biden, noting the reporters following the lawmaker’s every move.

"Well they take video cameras of me, they follow me because they think I might be vice president some day," responded Biden.

Just a few days after Halloween, one kid noticed a vat of candy.

"Is that your snacks?" he asked Biden.

"That’s our snacks," Biden said, before whispering, "You can sneak one if you want."

After a few minutes –- and a few Tootsie Rolls -– they all descended the stairs, then giving Biden a quick Cub Scout cheer and salute.

His impromptu Cub Scout tour concluded, Biden then jetted off to Gainesville, continuing his daylong tour of the Sunshine State….

I used to support Sen. Obama, but did you see his newest ad where he brags about his Buffett ( Communist: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4586222 ) and Powell ( black ) endorsements, while criticizing Sen. McCain for getting Cheney’s (VP)? if you want to talk about earning an endorsement from someone you supported 90% of the time, how about: Sen. Obama earned the endorsement of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright. For the last 20 years, he’s been stuffing his Trinity United Church of Christ full of children of the future generation of the South Side of Chicago, and indoctrinated them in hate and anger towards all of America and all Americans. God bless America? no no no, God d*mn America! It’s in the Bible, God d*mn America! Congratulations, you earned it, Barry!

That was really cool of Joe Biden to let the kids check out his plane. What an honor for them. I’m sure they will remember that for the rest of there lives.

Obamacrat for McCain: Buffett is not a communist. And the idea that linking to an article that refers to him being a witness – not a subject or a target – in an investigation that had nothing to do with communism proves he is, is nuts.
It’s quite entertaining though. Desperate much?

Ahhh, how nice, Mister Charity takes the cub scouts on a photo op tour, and the press eats it up. Fact is, Mr. Biden reported $319,000 of income last year and gave $995 to charity. Personally, I made $92,000 and gave $6,600. Ironically, Mr. Biden says that I am selfish because I don’t want to give more of my money to a big spending, wasteful government. What a hypocrite!!! I agree with the Obamacrat. I wouldn’t want the Obama campaign to get their paws on my child. They’ll bring him to Trinity United Church of Christ where the pastor there will yell at the top of his ebonics lungs, shake and twist and sing, “God bless American? no no no! God d*mn America, it’s in the Bible, God d*mn America!” and everyone in the congregation will roar in approval as if it was right.

After reading what Palin’s Alaska Independence Party leader said about America, you will not be that anti-Obama happy. Plus, when Jeremiah Wright was supporting this country as a soldier, he was okay American. But after he opened his mouth (1st Amendment) he is suddenly bad American? Come on.. Cheney was chicken to go and serve his country, but Jeremiah Wright didn’t.
… I’ll be also proud if Buffett endorsed me ))) Smart man. I like smart people..;)))

actually the Obamacrat is well-grounded. We, along with the Clintonite, used to support the Democrats, so we are not ideological purists, therefore our views are well thought-out. Besides, an Obama win, along with Democratic Congress and Senate, would be ruinous for the country, therefore it would accellerate the country’s turn to the Republicans for stewardship, guidance and reform, which, as leaning Democrats, our supporting Sen. McCain is a double-win. First we save the country from Sen. Obama, and second, we save the country from a guaranteed Republican onslaught in 2010.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — At Gov. Sarah Palin’s Sunday rallies, she’s earned big responses by repeating the line that an independent organization has found that Sen. Barack Obama’s proposed policies “would destroy 6 million jobs over the next decade.”
A quick search though finds that the only thing destroyed is the truth in that statement.
The facts: The “independent organization” Palin cites is actually the Center for Data Analysis, which is part of The Heritage Foundation, the conservative think tank.
Further, the figure is what the Heritage Foundation believes would be the amount of potential jobs not created if Obama changes tax law (including repealing the Bush tax cuts.)

I don’t see a point. So, Biden didn’t give too much money to charity. So.. maybe, he didn’t report all of his donations (I don’t). Maybe, he gives his clothes and toys to charity;))). Maybe, he’s just greedy. What’s your point.. ? ;)))

AmericanHeretic: “Can anyone refute that Biden reported $319,000 of income, but gave a paltry $995 to charity.”
Since you ask, sure, I’ll refute it. That figure you give is based on the charitable donations declared in tax returns. You don’t have to declare charitable donations, so actual donations and donations reported can be (and often are) two different figures. One common donation that often isn’t declared is money given via church collection plates, for example. And indeed, it has been reported that Biden’s tax returns don’t include money he’s donated to church.

I have to defend the DemMcCrat. He never quoted scripture against the Democratic ticket. Sen. Obama, however, insists that he has “a righteous wing behind our backs.” I don’t support Sen. Obama, but I don’t think I’m un-righteous. And Sen. Obama’s spiritual advisor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, said, “God d*mn America, it’s in the Bible, God d*mn America.” We should keep our political discourse civil. I respect Sen. Obama’s antipathy towards guns and religion. If it were the other way around, I would not have explained it the way he did: “they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.” I respect Sen. Biden’s desire to tax-and-spend. I believe that he thinks that’s the best route for our country when he says he thinks that’s the best route for our country. I wouldn’t call it a “patriotic” thing to do, as he did, and accuse everyone who, like myself, think tax-and-spend is wrong, I wouldn’t accuse us of being “unpatriotic.” And I respect Sen. Obama’s belief that socialism and a welfare society is what is best for America. I don’t call his supporters, who stand to gain a windfall from his welfare proposals, I don’t accuse them of being “selfish.” I think they’re great Americans with a different point of view. He said I was “making a virtue out of selfishness” just because I think capitalism is superior to socialism. We need to do away with these divisive and dismissive political tactics that the Obama campaign has engaged in, and above all things, we need to quit acting like Cousin Hussein and quote scripture against our political counterparts.

Ghost, since it is not obvous, I’ll explain. Did you read both of my posts? Biden reports $319,000 of taxable income, yet gives only $995 to charity. However, Biden has said on the stump that anyone who doesn’t want to pay more in taxes (money to a good cause, for redistribution) is selfish. Can you not see this as the epitome of hypocracy? A heretic is a man who sees with his own eyes. Gotthold Ephraim Lessing.

Aengil, personally, I give money to my church every week. In fact, I write a check, drop it in the collection plate and take a tax deduction. Now, are you telling me that my Biden makes all of his donations to his church in the collection plate in the form of cash. If so, he is too stupid to be VP!

Posted by: AmericanHeretic | November 2, 2008, 7:21 pm 7:21 pm

What a great story about Biden! It’s very Americana.
But nothing is more fun then reading these right wingers commenting on articles. Whatever Fox News/McCain/Palin tells them to care about that day, is what they attack with.
Attack, attack, attack. Never really why anyone should vote for McCain-Palin, just why not to vote for Obama-Biden.

Posted by: TooDarkMark | November 2, 2008, 7:33 pm 7:33 pm

Just to answer two right wing threads here.
Stop pretending to be Democrats and then attack the Democratic candidate, and “worry” about Democrats running the Senate and House. It’s such a Right Wing thing to do. You all live in a make believe world, and then go online and role play as “decenters” from your party. It’s very sad. In reality tons of conservative newspapers, and prominent conservatives have switched to Obama. Reagen’s Chief of Staff trumps some pretend comments you make on a website. Obama is polling better with Democrats than McCain is polling with Republicans. And yet that 9% of Democrats not into Obama seem to ALWAYS be commenting on articles on the web.
Also Heretic, you DO NOT, no matter how much you think you may, KNOW how much money Biden gives to charity. I give to charity all the time, and have NEVER reported it on my taxes. Maybe we’re not all as obsessed with getting tax breaks for our charitable work as you may be.

Posted by: TooDarkMark | November 2, 2008, 7:41 pm 7:41 pm

AmericanHeretic: Oh, of course you do. But are you seriously arguing that everyone does, and if they don’t, they’re stupid? Are you really completely unaware of any of the reasonable justifications for not doing so? Really?
And note that the argument that he’s greedy because he gives so little money to charity and you know he doesn’t give more because he’d declare everything he gives because he’s greedy is circular.
I suggest you spend some time researching everything Biden and his wife do before reaching conclusions based on tax returns which necessarily do not tell the whole story.

Posted by: Aengil | November 2, 2008, 7:48 pm 7:48 pm

TooDarkMark, it is irrelevant what you do. The fact is the Biden has been called on his paltry giving and the only retort is that he sometimes puts money in the collection plate. That is no answer. How often Joe? How much Joe? Gee, Joe, are you just lying for political expediency?

The Associated Press watched it, and surprisingly, the 30-minute infomercial also failed to impress them:
“Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama was LESS THAN UPFRONT in his half-hour commercial Wednesday night about the costs of his programs and the crushing budget pressures he would face in office.
Obama’s assertion that “I’ve offered spending cuts above and beyond” the expense of his promises is accepted ONLY by his partisans. His vow to save money by “eliminating programs that don’t work” masks his FAILURE throughout the campaign to specify what those programs are – beyond the withdrawal of troops from Iraq.”
Calvin Woodward reports that Obama misled viewers on at least five key points in his 30-minute final argument:
–Health care costs – Obama claimed his plan would lower costs by $2500 per year per family, but it DOES NOT. In fact, Obama can’t point to any particular cost reductions. He plans to spend $50 billion over five years on modernization and chronic-disease prevention and presumes that this will lower costs in the future, but in the meantime it RAISES COSTS at least in the short run on everyone (the $50 billion doesn’t come out of thin air).
–The Pay-Go of his plans – NO, he hasn’t demonstrated that he’s found the revenue for his spending, despite his claims last night. Non-partisan analysts believe that his spending programs will ADD at least $428 billion to the DEFICIT in his first term, and that’s if you accept his non-specific pledge to cut spending in other areas.
–Tax cuts for working class families – Before the commercial aired, he had already begun BACKING AWAY from that idea because of the financial crisis, although Obama didn’t acknowledge it in the ad.
–The “right” to affordable health care – Obama DOES NOT guarantee coverage in any of his plans, at least not for adults.
–Getting out of Iraq – Obama noted that the US spends $10 billion a month in Iraq and talked again about “bringing that war to a close” — but he’s BACKED AWAY from his previous pledges to get out on a strict 16-month timetable, which is as fast as the remaining units can be properly withdrawn.
Update America Break:
If Obama wanted to tax only the rich, Obama would have suggested a flat rate tax to remove all the tax loopholes used by the rich, and that includes Warren Buffet’s hidden billion dollar funds setup just for his family. Obama is a phony and he fools only the fools.
Obama continues to deceive America voters. Obama supporters talk about Governor Sarah Palin, but Obama keeps lying to be the president. No one can believe a person that continues to lie about his program and continuously deceives the voting public. Obama supporters cannot substantiate their rhetoric.
Update America does not respond to any Obama supporters without credentials.

Update America,
Obama is not talking about taxing the rich only. He is talking about the rich paying their fair share. Warren Buffett supports the rich including himself paying more taxes. He has talked about the inequities for a long time. The Bush tax cuts were a disaster and need to be recalled.
Why don’t you spend some time telling us what McCain will do differently than Bush? It should be a short list.

He should have run them off the taxpayer funded airport.
After all, that is their strategy for the Boy Scouts. Anywhere that’s supporting the Scouts needs to be attacked, taake awy things from the children, like funding for “at rish” (i.e., minority kids in the ghetto) to pressure the adult leadership.
Give the Nazis some credit over the gay mafia. While they burned the village, salted the fields and killed the adults, their reprisal at least spared the children.

A profile in political courage this is not. Given his recent gaffe on redistributionism, though, it’s probably smart. ABC’s Jake Tapper tried to get Obama to talk about his plans for the economic rescue plan, but Obama refused:
JT: What would you tell your Treasury Secretary to do differently with the $700 billion?
Obama: We’re on a tarmac.
JT: Why don’t you have a press conference?
Obama: I will. On Wednesday.
Remember when the media screeched over Sarah Palin’s lack of press availability after the convention? Neither Obama nor Joe Biden have taken questions from the press in weeks. If Palin’s fortnight of preparation somehow revealed her unreadiness for higher office, what does this say about Barack Obama?

Obama, Jan 2008, SF Chronicle.
“The problem is not technical, uh, and the problem is not mastery of the legislative intricacies of Washington. The problem is, uh, can you get the American people to say, “This is really important,” and force their representatives to do the right thing? That requires mobilizing a citizenry. That requires them understanding what is at stake. Uh, and climate change is a great example.
You know, when I was asked earlier about the issue of coal, uh, you know — Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket. Even regardless of what I say about whether coal is good or bad. Because I’m capping greenhouse gases, coal power plants, you know, natural gas, you name it — whatever the plants were, whatever the industry was, uh, they would have to retrofit their operations. That will cost money. They will pass that money on to consumers.”

Here’s an AP article about Biden’s income, assets, and charitable donations.
A look at Biden’s net worth
Posted 8/24/2008 2:36 PM
By The Associated Press
WASHINGTON — Sen. Joe Biden’s financial report as of June 2008.
______
Sen. Joseph Biden, D-Del., chairman Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama’s running mate.
Earned income: $298,200.
Honoraria, all donated to charity: $1,025.
Major assets: Bank accounts, mutual funds and insurance policies, $59,000-$366,000.
Major sources of unearned income: Income from various mutual funds, dividends from Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co. policies, $2,501-$5,000.
Major liabilities: Loans against cash value of life insurance policies, $15,001-$50,000; loan co-signer to pay for son’s college expenses, $15,001-$50,000; line of credit, J. Wilmington Savings Fund Society, $100,001-$250,000.
Gifts: None.
Narrative: Biden collected $112,500, the second half of his advance, for delivering the manuscript of his book, “Promises to Keep,” to publisher Random House in July 2007. He also earned $20,500 in teaching stipends from Widener University. The unsuccessful presidential candidate appeared on “Real Time with Bill Maher” and “The Late Show with David Letterman” last year, collecting $1,025 appearance fees for each that went to charity.
Copyright 2008 The Associated Press.
According to the information here Biden has an income of around $300,000. Last year he was running for the Presidency, a costly undertaking. In spite of that he donated all honoraria to charity. He also owes money for college loans taken out for his kids.
Where’s the problem here? Biden is widely acknowledged to be the poorest member of the Senate. There may be some legitimate complaints about him, but penuriousness and ungenerosity are not among them.

Oh come on! An income of $298,000 and he only gave $1,025! We don’t make anywhere near $100,000 ourselves as a family and we still managed to give way more than that in charitable givings. We even have children in private schooling (which is over $11,000 a year), with a mortgage to pay, food to buy, gas & electric to pay for (thankfully we don’t believe in credit card debt). McBogus, your “McBrain” has been fried. Get off the darned pitty party wagon. Biden has you so snowed that you can’t see the forest for the trees.
