Bill Clinton Weighs in on His Wife Being Secretary of State
Speaking at an economic conference in Kuwait hosted by the National Bank of Kuwait, former president Bill Clinton said of talks between President-elect Obama and his wife about her joining the Obama administration as Secretary of State, "If he decided to ask her and they did it together, I think she’ll be really great as a secretary of state. Whatever happens or doesn’t happen is between Obama and her," Bloomberg News reports.
Clinton said his wife "worked very hard for his election after the primary fight with him, and so did I, and we were very glad that he won and we have a lot of confidence that he can do a good job. But she didn’t do what she did with the hope or expectation of getting any kind of job offer, much less having this discussed," Agence France-Press adds.
And the 42nd president was coy about the nature of the discussions between his wife and the soon-to-be 44th president.
"The truth is I don’t know," he said.
Of course it’s the very presence of Bill Clinton in places like this National Bank of Kuwait symposium that is complicating matters for his wife. His web of extensive international business dealings for his philanthropic endeavors — such as the William Jefferson Clinton Foundation — for the Clinton Library, and for his own personal business dealings that stand as such a complex briar patch of potential conflicts of interest for his wife being the nation’s top diplomat.

Goodness Jake,
What’s all this antipathy for ‘international dealings’? I am no huge fan of the Clinton man (I don’t know him frankly, I was somewhat young when he was president), but it seems to me that the man needs to catch a break from all this scrutiny he is receiving. If anything, I would think all his international affairs (NPI) would make him a wonderful [free] spy for the US and his wife will be a much more informed SOS because of it. So please, stop acting like it is a deal breaker. He WAS president of the country for 8 years, its not like he would suddenly decide to do something that would compromise the interests of the nation. If anything, he should be the one worried about the effect of this on him; its not like countries would feel very comfortable at having a husband of an SOS privy to their inner dealings. But if they allow it, then more power to this country.

If Hillary Clinton is nominated to the SoS post, there’s an excellent chance of the Republicans having a roast fest on Bill’s donors to the Clinton Foundation. De ja vu.

Stop making Bill Clinton such a “distraction.” He’s done a ton of good with his “dealings.” Please, let’s get the lowdown on where all of Obama’s campaign money came from. And why those high level finance people are being selected for high level advisory positions in Obama’s administration. Why are longtime members of the Chicago Way being transported to Washington, D.C.? And what about all those credit card donations from names like Mickey Mouse and Osama Bin Laden. We know that those contributions were phoney and need to be returned. How did Obama return money to Mickey Mouse et al? We need to know this. Obama raised a ton of money. Where did it all — all — come from?

How in the world is Barack going to name Hillary as his Secretary of State when he convinced us during the primary season that she represented too much of the status quo and we needed change? Isn’t this the same lady who wanted to “obliterate” Iran?
What about people like John Kerry and Bill Richardson who supported Barack when the Clintons were telling everyone that Barack’s career was the fruit of political affirmative action? What the hell is wrong with OBAMA!!!!!!!!!
I feel betrayed that he’s even considering her. Say what you want about W but he sure was loyal.

Hillary is great at kicking a and taking names. These are not qualities I
would find attractive in a Secretary of State.. I think she needs to be the Sec of Health and Human Services. Get out that perfectly good healthcare plan from the ninities, update it and get it passed thru the Democratically controlled congress. She can then send Newt a picture of President Obama signin the bill with a note saying “up yours Newt.” That is Hillary. We need a negotiator as Secretary of State.

I would be greatly disappointed if Hillary expects the job as a secratory of state. She was humiliated by Barak during primary for her foreign policy experience. That is the last thing she wants to take and be treated like Collin Powell. The only legit thing she may assume is the minister of Health with the complete promise of whatever she wants to do with it. That was her promise to her 18 million voters. If she is not awarded that then she should remain a senator and be a pain in wrong place for obama throughout next 4 years. We need someone in Senate who would fight for the country that is going to be sold to islamists in the next four years. Obama wants to blame hillary for his soft stands against Iran and other islamic states…

It has nothing to do with this topic, but people keep bringing up things about lawyers and calling them such names as “vile” because they defended this or that murderer, etc. etc.
I have plaenty of beefs with lawyers and the law, but I know enough to know that it is built into the system that they must defend people we don’t like, people they don’t like either, but they are required to do their very best to win for the defendent. So calling a lwayer “vile” or unqualified to be the lawyer fior the President because he did his job, is really stupid.

In terms of doing the job well, that is a tremendous asset for Sec. of State which virtually no one else could match. I’m for Bill Richardson. Like it or not, Bill’s financial dealings are an issue. He and Hillary file joint tax returns. And Hillary would have an impact on foriegn policy and her husband has taken and continues to take millions from foreign governments. It would be different if he had private business dealings with foreign companies that were privately owned. But he is getting big money directly from foreign governments. That’s a huge problem.

With Obama now soon to be in office we must stop acting like he is the only one needed to change the country. It is us that we must change. Bring it on. I voted for Obama and I will keep working as in the election to do whatever he tells me to do for the country. Reasonable people think of others first. Obama was the top of his class in school and now holds the top office credentials. We are large in numbers and will walk the walk for our country. We are a force for change. Help us make the changes we need or get out of the way before you get run over by progress, electric cars, battery storage for homes with or without solar and advanced systems not yet made public will come into play in the next 48 months. Obama should say: My election has set a new low in standards by which we elect the leader of the free world. I have no experience, I have no accomplishments, I have no “trustworthy” mentors or inspirations, I spent my youth on drugs while studying Marxism, communism, socialism and black theology. My resume wouldn’t even have impressed bozo the clown. I have opened the door for all community organizers to aspire to be potus. But they do have to speak soooo eloquently that everything they say, no matter what it is, is believable. However, I’m the prez now! And I will spread the wealth until we are a third world country! But I need the “Hill” to help.

Keith, keep up the good attitude. This is what we need to bring about the change.
The problem took 50-60 years to come to a head. I didn’t hear a lot of people complaining while easy borrowed money was lining everyone’s pockets. Then they thought they were very smart and became ver egotistical and individualistic. Yes the problem will in all likelyhood get worse but don’t blame Obama for this mess. At least Obama is headed in the right direction. Blame your parents for voting for governments that ran up the deficits. Hopefully, you will use your common sense in voting selflessly instead with “what’s in it for me attitude?” No free lunch, no free lunch.

So before you sit around judging without thinking, read up and understand the wonderful people who were elected overwhelmingly by the American people…and Michelle Obama will make a great first lady and I can’t to see it and have the thousands of American welcome her and President-Elect Barack Obama make history and a difference! Sarahswati:
You make a good point – How come Hillary was such a qualified candidate for president, but not good enough for Sec. of State? That’s a good one. Well, the answer is that had she won the nomination, the Repubs would have fried her at Bill’s barbecue of – shall we say questionable – financial dealings. Americans were yet to be informed on that – so hence her continued popularity; it didn’t help matters that the Clintons were doing everything possible to cover their dealings up either. People forget that. Thankfully, the Obamacons will hold a higher standard; and they probably see a real problem. ‘don’t know why Barack offered it to her – perhaps to defang her political claws once and for all, and then drop her off when the media finally figures it all out with the Clintons.

Most of posters don’t seem understand the basic concept here….this is a win, win, win.
A win for the President-elect. A formidable centrist women in the most prominent role in his Cabinet as SOS. With instant credentials worldwide, respected by Israel and the Arabs.
A win for Hillary Clinton. After running a strong campaign it is hard to go back to being the junior Senator from New York with no committee chairmanships…a definite step up.
And finally a win for the complete unity of the Democratic Party.
Obama in just two short weeks is showing why America needed someone like him. Only the far left and the far right are going to continue to be ###### off as the USA will finally be led by someone with a good heart and cool hand.

Jill,
I read some of the trinity churches black lib, creed, and i for one, see no harm in it.
first of all-at that church they teach their children to be self sufficent,
to study hard, and get good educations.
(they have a lot of after school programs to help children)
they teach the people should try to own their own business and help others.
they teach a man should marry a woman,
and have children.
they teach that a man who has children is responsible for taking care of that child, especially to educate the child.
now Jill, I ask you, wouldn’t you want to deal with black people who have the above listed background, or someone who just might knock you in your head and take your money?
Jill, the election is over, in spite of your still campaigning against him,
he won, obama is the president, you don’t like it, you will never accept it,
but for now-Barack Obama is the new president elect for the USA, jill, you can try to make the best of it.
Work on improving you life over the next four years, and who knows Jill,
maybe we will all be deciding if we want to vote for you in four years.

As a voter that loves Bush and McCain and Palin I think we should give Obama a chance. We don’t know what he will do the next four years. He is a smart person. The American people elected him. We should encourage him to make good decisions. This is not just about getting elected. This is about good decisions the next four years for us. I am not sure choosing Hilary is a good decision for Secretary of State. Some Republicans are glad we are past the Clinton and Bush era. A fresh start seems like a win win for all of us.

Jill I did not vote for Bush either time. I thought he was a terrible president. But he was the president of the United States, and therefore he was my president. I think you listen too much to Hannity. He sprews such hate in this country.

Clinton said his wife “worked very hard for his election after the primary fight with him, and so did I, and we were very glad that he won and we have a lot of confidence that he can do a good job”
That’s rich. Hillary spent 18 months campaigning on how Obama was NOT the right guy to be president and all the reasons why he would make a bad president! I guess that wasn’t really how she felt. Or maybe it was and the above statement isn’t really how she feels. How can she change her position so quickly about the man? Does she know what she really believes anymore? Blah blah blah

mystery… Obama will not be the president for 49% of the country, just like Bush was not for the democrats, the democrats wasted 8 years of bashing him instead of doing something positive for the country. Bunch of spoiled brats, angry children, they rebel against the normal responsibilities of adulthood and demand that a parental government meet their needs from cradle to grave.” that That is why I am not a democrat anymore!

ok,
before we get into the whole “obama will never be my president count down”
we have sam, and jill and don, and i am sure many more.
ok, we get that “OBAMA WILL NEVER BE YOUR PRESIDENT”
none the less, he will be president of the usa.
after the bush tear down,
obama has been elected to help put this country back together again,
and many of us will get on with the business of trying to help in anyway we can.
sam and jill, you can just watch.
every group that tries to do something good, will always have their critics.
sam and jill will be critics for the next four years. because obama although is the president of the usa,
will never be their president.

Bush did nothing to tear down our economy or country no matter how bad they media tries to force that notion down our throats.
Groups like ACORN, who Barry O has a long history with that was IGNORED by the media, Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Chuck Schumer, and Jimmy Carter have destroyed our economy by trying to play Robin Hood with the housing market.
Also liberal nutjob environmentalist groups would rather watch $500,000,000,000.00 be sent out of our economy and be sent to countris that HATE us then keep that $$$ here in our economy..
So if you did any research at all, outside of CNN and ABC, you would see that “voting for the same equals voting for obama”

To Sam,
The ignorance of some of the people in this country never seem to amaze me. The bible says to keep your friends close and enemies closer. How can you keep anyone one close if you don’t communicate with them. LOL, relations between Dem and Reps alone would be mush better if they would simply talk without trying to force their opinions and views on one another. Truth be told both sides have valid theologies of government. However, neither works all the time. Now more that ever this country and this world needs leaders that are willing to diplomatically discuss the issues at hand and come to peaceful resolutions.
It’s so easy to knock those in power when you feel you have none. You openly criticize but have yet to offer one alternative solution… none that I have seen at least.
I find it extremely repulsive the comments I hear come out most R month how “Barry” is gonna “run this country in to the ground” and “he’s not my president”! Huh, how could possibly run it into the ground any more than the current president… who, by chance is ( R ). For the times, the current policies in place ARE NOT WORKING!!!!!!! Only a fool continues to do the same thing and expect different results!

I can’t see Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State because of Bill’s connections far and wide as they are. I’ve said it before but she would make an awesome Supreme Court Judge.
To Jill, who doesn’t feel that Obama is her president, that is just plain unpatriotic. I didn’t vote for Bush both times, I disagree with everything the man stood for but he is still my president. To accept as president the person who won the most electoral votes is what we do as Americans. Just as I don’t always agree with what our government does, I still respect our flag as my flag.
And please understand that you and many others are misquoting Michelle every time you bring up she what she said about being proud. The exact quote she said is ‘for the first time I am really proud of my country.’ Notice the word ‘really’. It changes the entire meaning of the sentence. Because of that one word, it means she was already proud, but now she is extra proud of her country.
That word really is important.
I love eating dessert. I really love eating chocolate chip cookies.
I love watching television. I really love watching my favorite show.
I hope you can understand that you are misquoting and/or misunderstanding what Michelle said. There is no reason to fear such an intelligent, kind woman. She is as patriotic as the rest of us, perhaps more than the average, to put her life and her family’s under a microscope for the next four years. Remember that if her and her husband had accepted jobs for big law firms they would have been making far more money than they have already while working a lot less hours. Their service is about patriotism, and the sacrifices this sometimes involves.

he has been doing much good all around this world.
in every area that bush has wasted our goodwill with the rest of the world,
bill has been doing good in the world.

there are i am sure a lot of qualified people out there, and they still turn to the brains of hill and bill.
i believe that is one of the reasons the clinton’ have so many haters,

One llast thing:
The roots of liberalism and its associated madness can be clearly identified by understanding how children develop from infancy to adulthood and how distorted development produces the irrational beliefs of the liberal mind, When the modern liberal mind whines about imaginary victims, rages against imaginary villains and seeks above all else to run the lives of persons competent to run their own lives, the neurosis of the liberal mind becomes painfully obvious.

obama will be president for 4 years, maybe 8 if things go well. this country needs the best people in place and everyone knows hillary is the favorite and mccain since he was also up there with american voters. this is not a game and some people will find any reason to say why or why she shouldn’t be picked. she would be president right now if many of us didn’t give obama the chance. it’s only fitting that he give her the job or this will backfire for him during next election or even during. no question the women is well deserving. kerry and richardson didn’t get the votes from americans, she did. bill clinton has the right to persue his own thing. he was president already of the usa and no one expects him to play dead just to console others. he has earned his position. others haven’t, so please seperate the two. both the clintons have been for the people and for peace so why do we have a problem. do not play games with this woman as it will backfire for sure. no one is more deserving, no one, than she is. do you think obama will play dead when his 4 or 8 years are over? no, i think he will continue to do all he can to serve country he loves, especially if successful as bill was. i have all faith in obama but when i hear this or that may be a conflict of interest i can help but wonder if the woman is being made a fool off and that is not ok. what now, someone needs referrances, or proof. she has experience and enough is enough and she’s too good for any administration. if not picked we will raly around her in years to come and karma will be a bitch.

The word “really” in michelles unamerican quote means that she had pretended to be proud up to that point and then when her man seemed to be getting support she “really” became proud, on the outside as a front. Thats the meaning. I’d bet she still harbors bad feelings for non-AA’s in her heart.

“America deserved 9/11″
“America is the greatest terrorist nation in the world”

President-elect Obama is treading a slippery slope with Hillary. What a coup it would be for he to have her out of the senate and even out of the country, often. The world would appreciative of her — she’s a far cry from both Powell or Rice. She’d do well.
Now the issues — what if Obama wants to release or termionate Hillary — how easily can that be done without a repurcussion by her followers?
And why is Bill have to be an obstacle? I think he’s jealous of Hillary and wants more involvmenmt than Obama is will to give him.
This is a very nasty dilemma for both Obama and Hillary…

My sense is that Bill Clinton will not be entirely forthcoming on this, especially given the complex web of contacts and financial dealings he not only had engaged in in the past but stands to continue to be engaged in in the future. Afterall, it has been very lucrative for him. He is not going to give that up. However, if Hillary gets appointed as S. of S., and something gets revealed later, it will not simply prove embarrassing but could ruin her political career and ambition. Therefore, better now than later.

Hillary should not take SoS if offered. She should stay in the Senate and tend to her own power base. Obama is trying to take over the entire Clinton machine, and Hillary joins his administration it will be easier to take the machine over. Once he has the machine he will cut Hillary loose. Obama has shown himself completely untrustworthy. He has shown no loyalty to Chicago friends who stood in the way of his ascendancy. In an Obama-centric world only the Messiah matters.
Obama wants Hillary on his team only so he can control her. She will not be part of his inner circle. As SoS she will be told what to do by Obama’s White House gang, in the same way that Colin Powell was told what to do by Bush, Cheney and Rice.
In order to permanently take over the Clinton machine Obama will have to destroy Hillary, and if she is in his cabinet he can do it. Look at what Bush did to Powell. Bush sent Powell to the U.N. to lie for him. Once the lies were uncovered Powell’s reputation was shot, and he was no longer of any use to Bush. After this Bush cut him loose. Obama will do the same thing to Hillary.
In the Senate, Hillary can tend to her own power base and exert influence on those still loyal to her and Bill. Many of those loyalists will be in influential positions in the White House and cabinet. They will report to Obama, but Hillary and Bill can provide direction from outside.
Hillary will be far more effective outside of Obama’s control than under it; and she will not be at risk of being destroyed by Obama. For these reasons she should steer clear of any appointment to his administration.

I see you are like most Christians who are some of the most generous people on the planet. My parents own a business and have given 15% to their church for 25 years.
But let’s look at joe the biden’s record of generosity- it’s pretty obvious he’s a typical liberal- very free with everyone else’s $$.

i cannot speak to mr. biden’ heart and his giving, and i surely cannot say he is unpatriotic-he has worked for the govt. all of his working life. and from what i understand, when his wife was killed and sons in the hospital, he would not leave their side to be sworn in. and he told them they could have his senate job. because he sons needed their dad. i think that speaks a pretty decent person, at the core.
and once again, i don’t think it is the amount of money given, (because all and any amount is needed-but the spirit behind the giving)

Bill is doing a great job around he world and enjoying himself and taking in millions. Hillary can do well in the senate and bring healthcare reform. Remember she kept saying that she was going to fight for the American people. How is she as secretary of state going to serve the universal health care reform. I think both Bill and Hillary need to keep doing what they are doing instead of going through a lengthy confirmation hearing and all the baggage being rummaged through once more with more serious problems on hand than worrying about who gave Bill what and when and how.

Jill…who are you to say that one person’s morals are better than someone else’s? The legislation you are referring to had so potential problems attached to it that he’d be foolish not to vote against it. By the Hypocratic oath, a doctor must preserve the life of an aborted infant that is born alive. Moreover, that bill was in the Illinois Senate, not the Congressional Senate. By the way, do you realize that John McCain is pro-choice? If you had followed his political career over the past 30 years, you’d know that.

Its really a shame that alot of you are talking about what Obama will do or not do. Why dont you stop and think about what you can do to help your town, city, community, or even just the block you live own. It’s about what we can do as American’s, people who live right next door to one another dont even say Hi, we walk down the street and wont help someone across the street. We can be a better nation if we first can be a better person. Once we do that then maybe, just maybe we can say what Washington is or is not doing. Until then shut up and stop complaining. Its stupid and its very 3rd grade.
One more thing pray for our leaders instead of breaking them down, their is power in the tongue.

Actually “The infant born alive act” has to do with giving medical care to babies born ALIVE due to botched abortions. Obama said it “would make the mother revist her original decision and inconvenience the docotor”…wow
And as far as Iraq, I would bet that the families of the 700,000 dead kurds murdered by Saddam are happy that we are there, too. Not to mention the prisoners that were released from the HUNDREDS of torture chambers Saddam built (and I ain’t talking about guantanamo either where our troops got em naked and messed with them). I am talking about the Iraqis olympic torture chambers where you fingernails were ripped off for missing a field goal( but I am sure you never heard about that on ABC)

Sam,
You can’t just make up the meaning of a word.
“The word “really” in michelles unamerican quote means that she had pretended to be proud up to that point and then when her man seemed to be getting support she “really” became proud, on the outside as a front. Thats the meaning.” Sam’s post.
It is dangerous to twist someone’s words, guess what they are thinking and then state it as truth.
And as my grandma used to say, action speaks louder than words. Michelle has given over her privacy and that of her family for the next four years, as well as being in the ‘fishbowl’ for the last two years. Michelle and Barack could both have taken big paying lawyer jobs years ago, worked far less hours and maintained their privacy. Think about it. She is as patriotic as any of us.

I bet they would have been happier if we had actually helped them when Saddam was actually attacking them. Same thing with the Shia who we left to be slaughtered.
“I am talking about the Iraqis olympic torture chambers where you fingernails were ripped off for missing a field goal( but I am sure you never heard about that on ABC)”
So Iraq was a humantarian mission then? If so why did we kill so many Iraqis? Why did we plan so poorly for the post Saddam Iraq?
Most of the recent scary Iraq stories were told by Chalabi and have been proven false.
“Not to mention the prisoners that were released from the HUNDREDS of torture chambers Saddam built”
You mean the torture chambers that we then used on Iraqis in places like Abu Gharib?

Also, even if Wright spoke badly about the US, aren’t we entitled to criticize our government? Doesn’t the First Amendment protect that? Shouldn’t I be allowed to burn an American flag as an effigy? Also, don’t some extremist churches in the South still speak badly about minorities (i.e. The Church of Jesus Christ Christian)?

I was in the Army for 8 years and now Im a business owner, a wife and a mother of two. My skin is black, but I am an American and nothing can change that. I pray that I make the best decisons for me and my family and things have been wonderful. Im 37 and Im proud of myself and of this nation. Just the other day I was walking down Michigan Ave and people were speaking and smiling at me. I was wondering what made that day different then most and then I realized I have on my Obama T-shirt and I stop to think about how in two weeks this man has make someone, who make not have spoken to me, speak to me with out me say a word. IMO to all “liberal” or Obama supports, there is no need to explain our views. This is our game now and all we have to do is point to the score board. Let the loosing team do all the talking they want. But let use be graceful in our victory and gracefully point to the score board. Even if thousands of dollars were put in their pocket as of direct result of Obama “liberal” policy… they would still find something to complain about. Point to the score board.
Clinton… national surplus, job increases, global peace.
Bush…national deficit, job decrease, global recession, war.
Point to the score board.

Isn’t that what the Germans said at the Nuremburg Trials? That they “were just following orders”? I understand that a soldier must defend himself on a day-to-day basis. However, he should also think about the bigger picture. Why is he over there in the first place? Did you ever consider that Bush sent the troops to Iraw because he’s in bed with the Saudis and wants easy access to oil? If you are just following orders, then you aren’t doing any good for the world at large.

All too often, people misundestand what Bill Clinton really cares about. He was prepared to do all of this if she became President and he will do it now. He will not stand in the way if his wife wants this job.

“but they get endoctrinated from an early age”
The word in indoctrinated.
Jesus Camp is a documentary about the “Kids On Fire School of Ministry,” a charismatic Christian summer camp located just outside Devils Lake, North Dakota and run by Becky Fischer and her ministry, Kids in Ministry International. The film focuses on three children who attended the camp in the summer of 2005—Levi, Rachael, and Tory (Victoria). The film cuts between footage of the camp and a children’s prayer conference held just prior to the camp at Christ Triumphant Church, a large charismatic church in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, a suburb of Kansas City.
All three children are very devout Christians. Levi, who has ambitions of being a pastor, has already preached several sermons at his father’s church, Rock of Ages Church in St. Robert, Missouri. He is homeschooled (as are many of the campers), and learns physical science from a book that reconciles creationism with scientific principles. He is also taught that global warming is a hoax and that the Earth’s temperature has a history of natural fluctuation not caused by humankind (e.g., the Ice Age was not due to any industry or pollution by mankind). Levi preaches a sermon at the camp in which he declares that his generation is key to Jesus’s return. Rachael, who also attends Levi’s church (her father is assistant pastor), is seen praying over a bowling ball during a game early in the film, and frequently passes Christian tracts (including some by Jack Chick) to people she meets. She does not think highly of non-charismatic churches (or “dead churches,” as she calls them), feeling they aren’t “churches that God likes to go to”. Tory is a member of the children’s praise dance team at Christ Triumphant Church. She frequently dances to Christian heavy metal music, and feels uncomfortable about “dancing for the flesh”. She also does not think highly of Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan.
At the camp, Fischer stresses the need for children to purify themselves in order to be part of the “army of God”. She strongly believes that children need to be in the forefront of turning America toward conservative Christian values. She also feels that Christians need to focus on training kids since “the enemy” are focused on training theirs.

Yes, call me crazy but I don’t think Bush is a moron (he got higher grades then Kerry at Yale and he didn’t flunk out of law school like Gore) and I don’t think he is evil. History will vindicate him. He did what he thought was right to keep this country safe and looking back at the past 8 years without a terrorist attack on the homeland- I think he did an execellent job!

As an American born and bread in the USA, I find looking to this man who was voted hands down to be the “One” to make change..Former President Clinton is astounding…There is no man alive who has not had some form of fall…whether it be sexual, racial or stupidity…Why is that! Men will always rise to the occassion because of powers known only under God..and with that, the news will stand for or against…Healing one’s wounds is hard to do…but when people pull together to give reverance to mercy and Hop..this is something “all” should do…Its about Honor…and fidelity of what is true! Hope! The key ingrediant to helping America work towards improvement! It is not always fashioned in those who have faced the tyranny of peace…there has never been Peace! Contempt for those who are different and bring something to the table have always been washed out by money and greed…Why! I am thankful for “a new relief that comes” time is what brought us to this revelation, and it will take time to change the derelictions! Clinton did not add to the wrongs, the wrongs were already in place because Men reach a power status and are inclined to forget the right side of purpose and bearing what is for the good of all…None have been without self…none have been for giving all the time…But I would rather be on the side of the giver not the taker! OBAMA…A New Face and New Generation! Apachecheynne

I find it ironic that you would use education to make a point. Where McCain graduated at the bottom of his class and Bush was a C student, who’s only saving grace from academic probation, was that he was a Bush. Obama graduated at the top of his class! Although your fears (which I hope is all they are) may be legitimate to you, they are slanted IMO. Like many have said today and a majority of the American public, Obama is change. War is not the answer. Tell me this… how do you go to war with an idea? You can’t, you can go over there with all the big guns and intimidation you want and it will never change the ideology of the people. Just like all the Democrats and “liberals” come on here and prove you wrong all day but we will not change the way you think and vice versa. I’m sorry but just us being over there does not make me feel safe. Why, because the threat isn’t a people… it’s an idea. And that idea can infect anyone. The fact that Obama wants to sit and talk with our enemies is not a bad thing but should be looked at as a chance for peace. Only a war monger would want oppose such a meeting. So please Dave… really what change have you contributed to… how have you changed your community. How many letters have you written to your congress person or senator? It’s so easy to Monday morning quarterback when you’ve never been a quarterback. You fail to remember, that there were many that said Bush would run this country into the ground. Hmmm… the irony!

“Low approval ratings have become routine for Bush. He has not had an approval rating above 40% for over two years, and only a handful of ratings at or above 50% his entire second term in office. The low ratings throughout much of his second term have arguably been because of the unpopular war in Iraq. But as conditions for the United States in Iraq have improved in the past year, the economy has gotten much worse and has served as an anchor on Bush’s ratings.
Bush has registered 28% approval ratings several times this year, in the spring and summer months as gas prices rose. His high rating for the year is only 34%.
The all-time low rating for any president is 22%, for Harry Truman in February 1952. Bush now joins Truman and Richard Nixon as the only presidents who have had approval ratings of 27% or lower in Gallup Polls.”

Ryan C, people like you are the reason liberal-media bias has a choke hold on this country…….
During the 2000 election, with Bill Clinton as president, the economy was viewed through rose-colored glasses. According to polls, voters didn’t realize that the country was in a recession. Although the economy started shrinking in July 2000, most Americans through the entire year thought that the economy was fine.
But over the last half-year, the media and politicians have said we were in a recession even while the economy was still growing.
Gas prices are going up. The economy is slowing. Talk of recession is seemingly everywhere. While the majority of people rate their personal finances positively, consumer confidence in the economy has plunged to a 16-year low, well below what it was during the last year of the Clinton administration when we were in a recession.
A Nexis search on news stories during the three-month period from July 2000 through September 2000 using the keywords “economy recession US” produces 1,388. By contrast, the same search over just the last month finds 3,166. Or, even more telling, take the three months from July through September last year, when the GDP was growing at a phenomenal 4.9 percent. The same type of Google search shows 2,475 news stories.

John R. Lott Jr.: D.C. Handgun Ban Giuliani Bobs and Weaves on Gun Control Record A ‘Tip’ for Hillary: Admit Your Mistakes Media Coverage of Mall Shooting Fails to Reveal Mall’s Gun-Free-Zone Status Full-page John Lott Jr. Archive Over 78 percent more negative news stories discussed a recession when the economy under a Republican was soaring than occurred under a Democrat when the economy was shrinking.
A little perspective on the economy would be helpful. The average unemployment rate during President Clinton was 5.2 percent. The average under President George W. Bush is just slightly below 5.2. The current unemployment rate is4.8 percent, almost half a percentage point lower than these averages.
The average inflation rate under Clinton was 2.6 percent, under Bush it is 2.7 percent. Indeed, one has to go back to the Kennedy administration to find a lower average rate. True the inflation rate over the last year has gone up to 4 percent, but that is still lower than the average inflation rate under all the presidents from Nixon through Bush’s father.
Gas prices are indeed up 33 percent over the last year, but to get an average of 4 percent means that lots of other prices must have stayed the same or gone down. On other fronts, seasonally adjusted civilian employment is 650,000 people greater than it was a year ago. Personal income grew at a strong half of one percent in just February.
Despite all that, this last week, Barack Obama proclaimed “As most experts know, our economy is in a recession.” Hillary Clinton made similar staements last fall. Yet, as any economist knows, a recession is two consecutive quarters of negative growth, and we haven’t even had one single quarter of negative growth reported. The economy slowed down significantly during the end of last year, but that was after a sizzling annual GDP growth rate of 4.9 percent in the third quarter.
Housing has obviously been a big drag on the economy, but many other sectors of the economy, such as exports, have been doing well, some extremely well. For example, aerospace exports increased by over 13 percent last year.
The media’s focus on the negative side of everything surely helps explain people’s pessimism. In a recent interview Fox’s Neil Cavuto claimed this bias “is all part of the media’s plan to get a Democrat in the White House.”
Indeed, research has indicated that media bias is real. Kevin Hassett and I looked at 12,620 newspaper and wire service headlines from 1985 through 2004 for stories on the release of official government releasing numbers on the unemployment rate, number of people employed, gross domestic product (GDP), retail sales, and durable goods.
Even after accounting for how well the economy was doing (e.g., what the unemployment rate was and whether it was going up or down), there was still a big difference in how positive or negative the headlines were. Democratic presidents got about 15 percent more positive headlines than Republicans for the same economic news.
Yet, the hysteria created by this coverage can have another cost. It creates pressure for government to “do something,” even if that rush to do something actually ends up hurting the economy. For example, Obama’s promises last week “to amend our bankruptcy laws so families aren’t forced to stick to the terms of a home loan” will only further drive down the value of mortgage-backed securities, making any unstable financial institutions that hold them even more likely to fail. In the long term, who is going to want to loan money when the contract can be rewritten at a later date?
The news media have generated a lot of fear. Ben Stein has a point when he says “The actual economic conditions are not that bad. I think if we have a recession, if we have a serious recession, a great deal will lie at the media’s feet.” Hopefully a little perspective will enter the picture before even more harm is done.
John Lott is the author of Freedomnomics and a senior research scientist at the University of Maryland.

So according to the right wing,
Economic growth slowing under Clinton (towards the end of his 2nd terms as the Bush campaign constantly spoke of a coming recession) but never going negative even for a quarter, why that was a recession!
Record joblessness, debt and puny growth for years followed by the worst economic meltdown possibly in history? Why that is the Bush economic miracle!

Let me see how this works, Cheney works for Halliburton for 5 years and gets a $20 million ‘retirement package’ and goes immediately from there to the White House.
While Cheney is in the White House, Halliburton receives single source contracts totalling billions or dollars to aid the ‘war effort’ in Iraq.
Hmmm . . . all the time the economy is corroding at the roots as the rich get richer and richer. Then the big sell-off happens and all the little people lose half their retirement savings, while those who sell early make their killing.
God bless America.

Or failing that, did Cheney donate to charity the profits of those options as he said he would?

Haliburton was only 1 of 2 companies who could do what was required there with regard to the oil. The other was a French company, should we have gone with the french company? I would assume you would take the position that is least likely to benefit America, so I’m sure you would have voted to with the French’s.
