Bush Gets Emotional Over White House Transition

ABC News’ Jennifer Duck Reports: President Bush became visibly emotional after speaking about the transition of his presidential powers to President-elect Barack Obama and his team.

After a private meeting with his cabinet, President Bush spoke publicly to around 1,000 White House staffers on the South Lawn.

The administration has been touting their transition efforts which have been underway for over a year.

"This peaceful transfer of power is one of the hallmarks of a true democracy.  And ensuring that this transition is as smooth as possible is a priority for the rest of my presidency," Bush said.

The president and First Lady have invited the Obama family to the White House and announced Thursday he will personally speak with the president-elect next week on issues ranging from financial markets to the war in Iraq.

"I look forward to discussing those issues with the president-elect early next week," Bush said.

"We face economic challenges that will not pause to let a new president settle in.  This will also be America’s first wartime presidential transition in four decades," he noted, adding, "For the next 75 days, all of us must ensure that the next president and his team can hit the ground running."

Although his party didn’t win, President Bush was gracious to President-elect Obama saying it is "an exciting time for our country" and noting voter turnout was one of the highest in history.

"No matter how we cast our ballots, this election gives us all reason to be proud of our democracy and our country.  And I hope you will join Laura and me in congratulating President-elect Obama and wishing him the very best for his family and our country."

The president took a moment to address the personal issue of White House staffers leaving their posts on Inauguration Day.

"As January 20th draws near, some of you may be anxious about finding a new job or a new place to live.  I know how you feel," Bush told them with a laugh.  "But between now and then we must keep our attention on the task at hand, because the American people expect no less."

The president became emotional when wrapping up his speech.  Visibly moved, Bush bit his lip and the First Lady gave him a hug.

I doubt it.. he has spend almost as much time at his ranch in Crawford as he has in the White House. Only difference now is that he will be a guest if/when he returns to Washington.
I only wish we could do the switch now.. Bush as already put the country in the toilet.. a couple more months and he could wind up pulling the handle and flushing it.

Can anyone give me a hint when I will be expecting to receive the $1000 that President 0bama said that he would give us if we voted for him?
Really appreciate it for any insights. It’s getting cold and all that, you know. It would certainly help with the electrical bills.

I wish tomorrow were January 20th. Bush has been the biggest failure of a president, if not the greediest, and overtly corrupt.

I voted for Bush BEFORE I realized he had become a theocrat. The extreme “Religious Right” has wrecked the Republican Party.
If the GOP has any hope of ever returning to power, they MUST move toward the center and expunge the religious zealots who have transformed the party into something it was never intended to be.

On August 1, 2008:
The first part of Obama’s plan is an emergency energy rebate ($500 to individual workers, $1,000 to families) as soon as this fall.
“This rebate will be enough to offset the increased cost of gas for a working family over the next four months,” Obama said. “Or, if you live in a state where it gets very cold in the winter, it will be enough to cover the entire increase in your heating bills. Or you could use the rebate for any of your other bills or even to pay down debt…

Ahh yes, the windfall profits tax on the oil companies.. forgot about that. Same thing Palin used in Alaska to boost her popularity and McCain came flat out and said he would not do under any circumstance.
My guess is that you will just have to wait until sometime after January 20th for Congress to work up legislation for it. I guess it’s a good thing Obama won, as it was not even a consideration with McCain :)

Posted by: Diane | November 6, 2008, 1:32 pm 1:32 pm

For all you Bush haters out their F%^&^& you!!!! After Bush won his first term as President he could not get into office and pick his cabinet because of Al Gore’s claim to to Presidency due to proclaimed voter fraud in FLorida. It stalled him three months. He also had to deal with Billy Boy Clinton’s failures as President to deal with Al Queda while in office. Bush then had to deal with 9/11/01. I will say he will go down in history as a great President. He kicked some ass and restored justice to defend the rights of all Americans who lost loved ones on that day. Do not ever forget his contribution, if you do your a worthless American.

Concerned American,
For your question in case you have been misinformed,
From our Greatest Leader’s website:
http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/newenergy_more
Obama and Biden will enact a windfall profits tax on excessive oil company profits to give American families an immediate $1,000 emergency energy rebate to help families pay rising bills. This relief would be a down payment on the Obama-Biden long-term plan to provide middle-class families with at least $1,000 per year in permanent tax relief.

Posted by: Andrew | November 6, 2008, 1:36 pm 1:36 pm

I cannot agree that he has a “good heart”. Without being too vitriolic, I really feel that he has set this country back a hundred years with his policies which seem to have been in large part those of the right-wing religious fanatics that advised him. I am hopeful that the future will show what we as a nation are really capable of.

Posted by: Henry Cross | November 6, 2008, 1:38 pm 1:38 pm

You all should be ashamed of yourselves for the comments about OUR president. No matter what President Bush has done or not done he is STILL the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES and deserves all the respect that goes with the office. The same goes for President-Elect Obama. I did not vote for him and it scares me everyday to think of what could happen, but I will still respect the man and come January 20th he will be given the same respect as every president should. That is what is great about our country. We can say and feel however we wish but my goodness, have a little respect for someone who voluntarily took on the hardest job in the world. And unless you are willing to take his place then you should show some respect.

Posted by: GH | November 6, 2008, 1:39 pm 1:39 pm

It is funny how the comments refer to Bush as the worst president of all time but, some way some how he was able to be elected to two terms of office. He may have been the worst President ever but he was smart enough to play on the emotions of the American people to get elected twice. He was already messing up during his first four years but, he used a classic Rove and McCain technique that was to not talk about the financial state of America and talk about terrorist and war. In reality war and money go together we had a deficit when we went to war what did everyone expect? Oh I never voted to Bush the idiot the first or second time how many of you can say that?

Thank you for eight great years, “W.” No President in history has had to deal with as such hatred as you, yet you handled it with grace and poise. For the last seven years, you’ve lead the fight to keep terrorists off of American soil. Isn’t it interesting that you once had the highest approval rating of any President in history, yet those same people that once approved of you now shun you in our nation’s darkest hour? The people that call you a bad President obviously haven’t been paying attention. Godspeed, George W. Bush. You’ve done our country well, and I only hope your successor can do half as good a job as you have.

Don’t like Bush at all, but this was very gracious, very touching and I admire his efforts in this transition.
Well done, Mr. President.

Posted by: Hoping for a better Future (formerly:This is SO Old) | November 6, 2008, 1:43 pm 1:43 pm

I find it amazing that people believe that Bush “has a good heart.” He lied to a nation and started a war, and on the eve of the war he wasn’t reflective and somber, but instead he was “feeling good.” How does a man with a “good heart” make a country go to war under false pretenses absolutely certain that there will be thousands of casualties?
The cocky creep is upset because he won’t be in the spotlight anymore.

Posted by: Daniel | November 6, 2008, 1:44 pm 1:44 pm

I am still waiting for someone to explain the evil “Bush Policies” We have not had another attack since 9/11. Maybe if Clinton had done more, 9/11 would have never happened. Iraq was probably not the place to go, but we are there and can’t just pull out like Obama and Pelosi want us to do. America stood up to its enemy and told them that we wouldn’t take anymore crap.

Posted by: Diane | November 6, 2008, 1:45 pm 1:45 pm

Obama has spoken about investigating Bush and Co. for crimes while in office:
“Now, if I found out that there were high officials who knowingly, consciously broke existing laws, engaged in coverups of those crimes with knowledge forefront, then I think a basic principle of our Constitution is nobody above the law — and I think that’s roughly how I would look at it.”
http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/attytood/Barack_on_torture.html
He will ask his AG to look into the posibility, and will pursue criminal charges if the appear warranted. No telling what they might find. A federal judge ordered Cheney from destroying documents after he started claiming he could because, in Cheneys own words, “the VP position is not part of the executive branch of government”. It will be interesting to see what gets turned up. Remember, we spent millions of dollars in a witch hunt against Clinton, and all they could turn up was a little noogie in the oval office. I think a similar investigation into Bush and Cheney could turn up a vast deal more, and I am looking forward to the feeding frenzy.

Say what you may, it is like archery – the farther you pull the string, the further the arrow goes. Bush’s policies etc pulled the string back quite a bit — only to result in Obama and the country going forward as much.

GH, where I come from you have to EARN respect. Had he been a GOOD president or even par president I would have no problem. But he abused his position and “screwed the pooch” on every issue that came across his desk. He’s an abysmal failure. He was able to get re-elected because of those religious fanatics and his fear mongering tactics. I for one would have voted for a dried up, rotted, moose pelt before I would have voted for Bush.

It is incomprehensible to hear people complain when they are fat and safe in this world. Perhaps they know nothing of service and sacrafice. I agree – well said from President Bush. I haven’t agreed with many of his policies, but I’ve always considered he was ill advised. It was his job to be more astute in his judgements re: the people he chose to trust, but he isn’t the first President to trust some people unwisely. I will always look upon this period as one where Cheney – ‘The man behind the President’ did the most real damage. President Bush was at fault in allowing him such influence. I think President Bush had a good heart but lacked the wisdom. Well said by him in closing this chapter. Well done.

Whether you agree with President Bush or not… until January 20, 2009 at 12:00 noon, Mr. Bush is the COMMANDER AND CHIEF of this country and deserves the respect of his office. I’m curious to see how you critique Mr. Obama once the “honeymoon period” is over and he faces the day to day challenges Mr. Bush has. In case you didn’t notice it, we as a nation are at one our most vulnerable points in history.. our military is spread too thin and we are on the brink of economic collapse. If we had to fight a real war, one where our freedoms were actually threatened, we would be unable to defend ourselves.
I for one don’t think that spending billions and billions of dollars ‘fighting’ some 1500 (2000 CIA estimates) terrorists has done as much good as some of the less knowledgeable seem to think. But I guess simple minds all think alike unfortunately.

I hope the citizens will realize they elect leaders to command, because as a group, the voters are a soulless, mindless, ignorant, raging mob, and support the next president, and show him respect, even when they disagree with his policies.

Big Daddy : How do we fund the military if we have no money? Economy has to come first, or we implode. Ideally, we need to keep it in balance, but we’ve gotten ourselves into a big hole and we need to rationalize. We need to be vigilant re: the war against terror, but our allies have had terrorist attacks made upon their soil since 9/11. We need to inspire greater assistance from other countries with our endeavours – we can’t be chasing terrorists across sovereign borders and in and out of every foxhole in the middle east – it will bankrupt us. Then how safe will we be?

America is a country blessed by God in many ways above many countries in the world. Whatever Americans may say about their leaders especially their Presidents, the world at large will always salute the good works the America is doing on this planet earth.

My, my.. such a compelling argument in support of your claims..
– If there is NO security… the economy is a MOOT point! There would be economic, civil, and government chaos if ever, God forbid, there were another terror attack on US soil the likes of 9/11…. –
Your assertion is not based on reality. There have been terrorist attacks all over the world and in far greater numbers than 9/11, and yet not a single incident of your predictions regarding chaos. And in analysis of removing terrorist threats over the past 60 or so years, rarely has military force been successful. Indeed, look at what military force has done with our current situation in Afghanistan and Iraq. We could have had 10 times the size of our military, and that would have done little good preventing those 19 individuals from performing the attacks on 9/11. Again, simple minds do seem to think alike.

Hey Lee – vastly more whites voted for Obama than did african americans, so have a seat and enjoy this glass of shut the hell up.
It was HIS campaign and HIS money, so it’s NONE of your business who was paid. (And by the way – he didn’t promise not to only use public money – only to use it if certain other situations were as they should be… and they weren’t.) That’s what happens when public money is not accepted. ANY criticism you have of how he spends the money is pointless and pathetic.
The VAST majority of campaign workers are unpaid, anyway, and the “hoppin’ mad” story you’re referring to is apocryphal – UNTRUE.

Big Daddy – “tax and spend liberal” is a dead term. You might have learned this if you’d stepped out of your cave in the past 16 years. Clinton left the US in a condition of unprecedented growth and streamlined government, and Bush expanded government and drove the country into the ground. Using the term “tax and spend liberal” exposes you as more of a “little daddy”.

Well, first off – there is no such thing as a ‘war on terrorism’. That is a made up term in order to push a political agenda. As for how to deal with terrorist organizations? Perhaps you would like to read a recent congressional testimony given to the senate armed forces committee in September.. notice it’s similarity to what was put forth in the Iraq Study Groups analysis, and what the goal of Obamas 2007 withdrawal plans were:

I am glad that we finally had a president who could talk (at times) to the ordinary people (less than 90 IQ). An amazing president who obviously deeply believed in God (Cheney). Who led the masses to the bright light of freedom and liberty (oil wars). The great man who helped us to achieve the true american dream of prosperity (101 K’s). I am ashamed that I am one of the smart elites (educated) that have not understood this great man’s heart (guantanamo bay) that speaks to the masses (28% of the country who cannot read)

Chester: If you were a true student of history, you would learn that the capitalist economy is cyclical! Look @ it from the time of WWI until now! How many peaks and valleys and how many huge drops and gains! At least 4 huge drops and gains and many more ebs and flows! There is NO cure for that… it will always be two or three steps forward one step back… IT IS the nature of the beast! Growth, correction, growth, correction… but we have attained the MOST growth of any nation in our SHORT 232 year history! REALLY, Americans need to be more pragmatic and not sooooo manic! Like a bunch of spastic little dogs! Where else in the world have they gone from a land of natives to the super power to end all super powers in 232 years!? NOWHERE!
What goes up MUST come down and vise versa!
For Concerned American: You are a complete idiot and any individual with an advanced IQ can see that quite easily! Your statements and arguments are foolish talking points that you get from the scripts of the DNC!

Diane – I think you fight a war on Terrorism with infiltration and intelligence. You plan for the long term, infiltrate terrorist organisations and destroy them. We’ve lost a lot of soldiers, caused the deaths of thousands of innocent civilians, are being bankrupted by the exercise and have not caught Bin Laden. We don’t have much to show for all it has cost us. We can talk all day about how much more secure we are – or are not. At the end of the day, a good argument can be put that we have actually made matters worse while achieving very little.

You cannot WIN a war against terrorism. It’s not like it has an “army”. It’s a train of mind. You may be able to contain it, for lack of a better word, but you will never defeat it! That was part of Bush’s arrogance and ignorance. He jumped into Iraq thinking that’s where terrorism lived. LOL…it’s every where! They sit back and watch and plan and attack. Bush didn’t plan…he just attacked…again showing his ignorance. Terrorism has been happening for thousands of years! We can’t even stop domestic terrorism in our own country…how ignorant of Bush to think he could brainwash a totally different continent with totally different religious beliefs.

allistair – Guess you forgot that in Clinton’s last 4 fiscal quarters, the economy kept going down. 4.8,3.5,2.4, and 1.9%. Bush inherited a recession. Clinton said during his campaign that he would bring tax cuts to the “middle class”. Well, we are still waiting for that tax cut and oops, he RAISED taxes once he got in office. From 2003 – 2006, GDP grew over 3% per year. The economy has grown 20% since Bush took office. More “rich” people paid more taxes under Bush than Clinton (19% compared to 21%). Under Clinton, unemployment remained under 7.3% and averaged 5.2%. Under Bush, unemployment remained under 6.7% and averaged 5.2%. Since the Bush tax cuts, federal revenue rose. Defense spending has gone from 3% of GDP to just 4% of GDP. There were more Military deaths in 1980, Carter’s last year in office with 3,392 than in any year of the Iraq war. During Bush’s presidency, the bottom 20% of income earners had their wage go up by 91%. The top 20% of wage earners had their wages go down by 26%. Obama wants to take out your 401K’s and put them into the social security fund. First, you have NO control over your social security, it is OWNED by the Gov’t. Think of all the millions that will be taken out of the stock market. All those businesses will lose money. Remember, stockholders own a piece of those companies. Businesses will not hire new employees, they will increase the cost of goods, they will pay more in corporate taxes. You will pay a higher capital gains tax too. Hope you are happy. Once Obama comes in, you will be aching to have Bush back in office.

There are some disgusting people in our country. You shouldn’t call your president horrible names even if you don’t agree with him. George Bush is a fine man and did what he thought best after we were viciously attacked. FDR wasn’t flogged for fighting back after Pearl Harbor. Bush’s decision was much harder because the attackers were not from a single country. Muslim terrorists exist in about 67 countries. Top Democrats like Hilary voted to go to Iraq, then wouldn’t stand by him when it didn’t turn out well. It’s disgusting behavior. He was as sorry as Democrats were but had to take the heat by himself.

And I seriously doubt I will be receiving any ‘redistributed funds’.. I was quite willing to allow the middle class to pay more taxes than me under Bushs tax cuts, but it seems that gravy train will be ending soon. I have no problem returning to the tax rates that were in place under Clinton. Someone has to pay down the debt and close the deficit, so it might as well be individuals such as myself who have profited quite well over the last several years. And while my tax rate may jump by 3% to 39.6%, I am sure that with my current shelters, I will still only pay somewhere in the 15% range, still well below what the middle class will be paying.

You’re right… he is a great orator… but TALK is cheap! GW is a man of action, you can save the talk for your liberal “talking head” prof’s at your highly over priced “university!” That is equivelent to thinking you can talk your way out of a mugging, rape, or pick a crime! You can’t talk our foes out of hating us or trying to get the upper hand on us! Again, there are NO rules in love and war… and that is the way of the world… save your idealistc foolishness for the classroom, because it does not play in the real world!
On a funny side note: Too bad Obama can’t bestow his command of the English language on the many minions who supported him soley based on the fact that he is black… Ya’heard dawg!?
Perhaps this is one bonus that we can all agree on… Obama hates the stupid sagg’n pants and the ebonics that have plagued the inner city, music industry, & schools, etc. At least now many Americans of color have a much more educated and worthy “American idol”, save his politics that is, of course!

Diane, a war on terrorism is like fighting a war on clouds. What about the war on drugs? The war on poverty?
No, some of the Bush doctrine was sound, don’t give them safe harbor. After that, it SHOULD HAVE been almost like a covert police action. Strategically and surgically strike the terrorists and target their funding. Similar to what the Israeli’s did against the terrorists of Munich. No way should we be in Iraq still trying to justify this lunacy with a large army. 30 or 40, 10 man hit squads could have been much more effective. Quiet as its kept, that is what is happening in Iraq now, not some huge troop surge.

Son, allow me to educate you! The Iraq War is not a NEW war… it is an end to a cease fire that was set after the first Gulf War… Saddam-ize was to follow STRICT rules and regulations… which he did not do! In fact there were corrupt officials in the UN seeing to it that Saddam-ize received all kinds of perks, money, etc. that were ILLEGAL! Not to mention the fact of 17 UN Resolutions that were NOT obeyed! So, it is either SH!T or get off the pot! The people of Iraq were suffering under the sanctions, whilst Saddam’ize and his minions lived the “high” life.. by the UN back door hook ups and the fact that his sons were HUGE heroin dealers and users! Furthermore, Saddam was sending money to terror groups and also giving rewawrds to families of suicide bombers! But I digress! The warnings to Saddam-ize were not headed… the sanctions were only hurting the PEOPLE… and if nothing was done.. it would only be a matter of time before other countries would thumb their nose at the UN and the entire world at that! So, instead of being like Jimmy Carter and sit on his hands … GW did what was LEGAL, NECESSARY, and Better than the alternative!
So, try not to be such a fool… get yourself into a good school… one that is not a socialist breeding ground and learn a thing or three son!

I have no doubt that is what you believe.. your monochromatic world view mirrors that of Bush.. his ‘you are either with me or against me’ stance is a perfect example of his lack of intelligence and the realization that there are many positions between the two extremes that can peacefully coexist within a proper framework. It is that mentality that has brought this nation to the pathetic position we are currently in, and one echoed in virtually every statment you have made thus far. I am truly saddened by what must be a dark and fearful live you lead, and can only hope that eventually, you will be able to cope with reality from a rational perspective. It is indeed a difficult task to engage in rational dialog with an irrational individual. I would suggest psychological assistance in order to help you ease your transition into the 21st century, but I’m sure you will shrug off such a suggestion with yet another irrational proclamation that fits your limited world view.
Sad indeed. As I always tell my students, a mind is a terrible thing to waste, particularly when they make such great fertilizer for home gardens.

He is the president until January 20th. Bush and the congress republicans don’t think another fiscal stimulus is necessary so that is likely to have to wait until after the new administration is sworn in.
Pelosi has floated this as an idea after the election, we’ll see what Bush and the republicans are willing to do.

Fear not.. I did not go into teaching until after I had retired. And I had not considered it until I was asked by many of the Regents to do so.
Your presumptions are all unfounded, as is your rather perverse view of the world. Indeed, your statement “Therein, “lies” the problem with our education system… You want to try to complicate life and reality with all this “gray” area!”; That simply shows your lack of ability to deal with the complexities of todays world, and instead view it in binary terms. Such a simplistic view of reality leads to rash conclusions and unrealistic goals, and is evidenced by many of your statements and your resorting to simplistic ad hominem attacks and other logical fallacies to try and support your position.

For those of you that live in lala land here is some insight that may help you come back to earth. Mr Obama promised more than he can deliver. Change is coming and you will feel it in your pockets soon. For Mr Obama, his victory honeymoon is going to hit a screech halt when he steps in and face the realities the Office of the President have to carry. He will come out of there hated ( like Bush) and a lot of gray hair ( like Bush ). The change comes from inside the people’s minds and heart. President LBJ ( Dem. ) became a tenacious fighter for Civil Rights, Welfare , Head Start , Peace Corps and much more and end up hated like no one for taken this country into a long and costly Vietnam War without a war declaration from Congress, based on a lie that a North Vietnamese attacked a US destroyer ( it never happened ). So like most Presidents the realities of this country and the world will take away the sweet taste of victory into a sour taste of failure on Mr Obama. There you have it !

Democrat supporters need to be as gracious as Bush was in his speech, and set the tone now for the future. That begins right here, right now on the blogs. These are the grassroots. Can I ask everyone on here something? What are you hoping to accomplish with the back and forth arguing on a comment board about President Bush Getting Emotional Over White House Transition? Seriously. I pray this isn’t how you live your lives, just trying to win the argument of one’s personal ideology against another. I mean really, it’ll be 50 years into the future, and you’re gonna be talking to your grandkids saying things like “yes sirree, on those Internet comment boards I argued against everyone I didn’t agree with, and I told them a thing or two! I changed the world! And your grandkids are gonna look at you with pity, knowing you’ve wasted your life.
I suggest we talk less about the stalemated ideologies of Left/Right, Liberal/Conservative, Democrat/Republican, and talk more about the kind of people we all want to be, what kind of community we want, and what kind of world we want. And I bet we’ll find we have a lot more in common, and that we can actually work together to actually DO something constructive, rather than abuse the comment feature. Let’s show respect to President Bush AND to each other.

It is amazing that everyone who is bashing President Bush assumes everything they have been told by the media is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. None of us have been privy to the national debriefings by the NSA and CIA like President Bush. The information the President recieves in these meetings are not for the weak. They are high classified and if you were given the information the President is given you too would probably make the decisions he has had to make. The intelligence that was given to him about WMD was intelligence that the CIA, NSA, England, Canada, and other countries believed were true and accurate. Based on the intelligence presented to President Bush he made the best decision he could make for the country. Do not pride yourselves on calling him a murderer. We are at war. Lest we forget who was helping the Taliban…Iraq and Iran. Once President-elect Obama started receiving the briefings the President Bush was receiving Obama started changing his tune regarding Iraq. Sometimes the President has no option when he is given the information he is given. History will judge President Bush, not the liberals and conservatives right now in this moment.
Jimmy Carter was the worst President. Those of you bashing Bush probably do not remember the Carter years, rationing gas (not because of a natural disaster but because he was an awful president), the receision, the horrible leadership.

I’ve lived for a year and a half in Venezuela. The president there is a socialist and has hated Bush. He likes Obama because Obama says, “spread the wealth” which is socialist rhetoric. Obama plans to “fundamentally change” America. If that means not having food on the shelves like what has been happening in Venezuela as a result of Chavez’s price controls you won’t be happy about it as you are now. I agree with the people who have made decent comments about President Bush. Of course everyone is entitled to their opinion because it is a FREE COUNTRY, but until you’ve sat in that position yourself, as the President of the United States, maybe you should reflect on your comments and see if you could have done a better job. Maybe so, maybe not, but personally I respect anyone who has the guts to step up and take on that task, and at the same time, try to make everyone in our country happy…it’s impossible to do. Part of that happiness is our responsibility, not the President’s. I just thank God that I live in a country where we can decide who will be our president, and we have been doing that since 1789. God Bless America!

I keep seeing the term “tax and spend liberal” throughout this thread. I am wondering why you think that’s worse than Bush’s “spend and DON’T tax for another generation or two” approach. We are so deeply in debt now, thanks to the Bush administration, that we may never fully dig our way out. Bush came into office with a budget SURPLUS … and promptly ran up RECORD deficits! Don’t you see the problem with this way of thinking?

Clinton didn’t have 9/11 to deal with nor was he forced into going to war. War is expensive. Clinto forced Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac into giving loans to people they didn’t want to based on their horrible credit scores. So much of Clinton’s presidency of not doing anything cost of all us and President Bush was forced to deal with the 8 years of Clinton’s don’t do anything attitude. The economy is cyclical…

“I’ll give you tax breaks while I tax the big, evil companies even more!”
Translation: You’ll pay anyhow – those companies will simply raise the price of the products and services they provide to you. Do you actually expect those companies not to raise prices – to actually eat the tax loss? That would be as absurd as you NOT taking any tax cut given to you.
Flat tax rate for all would be fair and simple.

Let’s not forget about the Democratic ran Congress that has a lower approval rating (18%)than Bush. Congress is what has messed up the country. The country was doing well until two years ago when the Democrats took control of Congress.

Good riddance to a terrible president. Good heart or not, leadership isn’t made on good intentions. George W. Bush is just about the most terrific presidential failure my generation has seen. The bar has been very much lowered for Obama.

People have let thier fears and greed skew thier judgement.
Extenuating circumstances (9/11, Katrina, the economy) are more to blame than failed policies.
Oh just you wait!
The German people were not bad people (as a whole). Just look at what one smooth talker did when he used thier fear and dire situations to motivate thier greed and desires for an easier, better time.
Just you wait!

I find it amusing so many of you blame all our problems on one person. You are deceiving yourself if you think any one person could mess up so many things. Our economic problems are a result of a natural cycle along with certain laws and choices set in place by past presidents and legislation, including Carter and Clinton. A lot of people think Bush did what he did in Iraq for the oil. It seems rather silly to me that he’d do that and not ‘plant’ the nuclear weapons there to be found.
My opinion is Bush stood up for what he believed in. He tried to do what was right. That’s more than I can say for a lot of the past presidents who were wishy washy and political scum. I hate politicians who change their stance to match those of whoever their current audience is, just to gain acceptance. Bush stood up for what he believed in, and did the best damn job he could.
If our current status is anyone’s fault, it’s ours not his. It’s our fault for electing a bunch of wishy washy idiotic representatives to congress. We should have shut the door on the Saddam saga 20 years ago. We shouldn’t have been giving money to families that could not afford the loans. It was our own greed and pride that got us into this problem.
I laugh when I see people blame Bush for our problems. It’s like watching small children point fingers and blame others for their own failures and short comings.
Before this country can heal it’s wounds and fix it’s problems, the people of this great nation have to stand up and take responsibility. The status quo is our fault, not the presidents. When you blame Bush, you are just extending the problems.
The truth is, if I could vote for Bush for a 3rd term I would. I voted for McCain. I honestly think the less qualified person got voted in as the President Elect and it scares me to think of the horrible things Obama can do to our economy. My job supports the DoD and historically people in my field of work suffer when a Democratic president is elected. I fear for my health care. Socializing healthcare is a scary proposition to someone who already has good healthcare. I worked hard to get where I am and now it’s possible my healthcare will get worse so that the people who dropped out of highschool and went partying instead of studying are going to get better healthcare. I fear for all the children that may not survive because of legal abortions.
I will say this though. Obama is an amazing orator. I haven’t seen anything like that since JFK. Let’s all hope he’s not all talk and no show. I hope to god he doesn’t drive this country into the ground with socialism and dreams of utopia.

Bush was an idiot who trampled our constitution and broke the law in doing so. Myself and many others have been calling for his impeachment for years now. Hopefully, after Obama takes office, the AG will dig into the Bush crimes and we can see him held responsible for his actions while in the White House.

Pay Back Time
Bush fabricated an excuse to go to war so his greedy friends could steal taxpayers dollars. Tens of thousands of mothers and fathers in America and Iraq have seen their innocent children killed. Bush ripped off America and put Americans in so much debt that it will take years to pay it off. And his phony war is still costing us $10 billion a month.
Around where I come from we put thieves in jail and make them pay back what they stole. Bush and his friends should be jailed and made to pay back all they stole.

Really, we need to give Mr. Bush a lot credit for all his efforts and successess. He is a man you might go down to the local tavern and have a couple of beers and discuss good things like family values.
The country and people have changed, and we are in need of a change..

We gave Bush a chance to do his best …. and we believed the falsehoods, (I won’t call them lies, because they MIGHT not have done it deliberately), that his administration fed us like pablum. We even gave him a SECOND chance, to hopefully fix the mistakes we had already discovered by then. Now, his terms are over. It is Obama’s turn to try to fix things. Let’s give him the benefit of the doubt, (like we did for Bush), and see what happens. If he screws it up, we can always vote him out next time. In the meantime, let’s support our new President and give him a chance to prove himself … one way or the other. I don’t see how he could make the situation much worse … and he just MIGHT make things better. Time will tell.

Many have blamed Clinton for 9/11 because they claim that al Qaeda was plotting and planning “right under his nose”. What makes you think they haven’t been plotting and planning right under Bush’s nose too? Those people BELIEVE that “one thousand years is not too long to wait for revenge”. I don’t think we can give Bush credit for our “safety”, any more than we can really blame Clinton for 9/11. We’ll have to wait and see WHEN and WHERE they decide to attack us next. Don’t forget, Osama bin Laden is STILL out there.

Now that the Dim’s have a governing majority we won’t have to wait long to see these buffoons fail epically with their moonbat ideology.
The best part is there will be no Republicans to blame for their incompetence. Their failures will be brought out into the light of day and they will be exposed for the frauds they are.
I’m going to cherish the disillusionment of the Dim faithful as they discover that their savior is nothing but an empty suit with a head stuffed full of failed retread socialist policies.

We all are human – governed by emotions. The way we see ourselves, percieve that others see us and the way we want others to see us provide most of the motivation for the actions of people reading these kinds of websited. Even those of us that are concerned for the marginalized operate in the fight against those things from a position of security. We want to give time and money, but don’t want to risk our childs college money, our retirement or our lifes blood. Even the best hearted of us will never know what it’s like to go without regular food for years on end, use outhouses or holes in the ground, haul wood, haul water, get paid pennies for our work, have our wife or child raped or burned, or live on a piece of land with thousands of other people at the mercy of a dictator. We’re concerned about whether or not the elevator is out.
Our Presidents try to keep it that way. They must make decisions, based on what they percieve the threat (terror, military, economic, environmental, diplomatic, agricultural, etc…) to be at the time. I believe President Bush did what he thought was best given the information he had at the time. I beleive President-Elect Obama will as well. They are human though…they won’t be perfect. I don’t believe either will be known as the worst President in history – I’m convinced that will be Herbert Hoover, the man responsible for the Great Depression that led to world conditions that allowed World War II to happen. Again, he was probably doing what seemed right to him at the time.
We need collaboration, not comprimise. We need justice, not revenge. We need forgiveness. Not everyone can though…those that can, should.

All authority is placed there by God. He is the one who allows good leaders and bad leaders. We are instructed to pray for our leaders so that we can live good and peaceful lives.
God allowed both men to be elected to be in this place of authority. He chose them for HIS purposes.
It should not be this anger and bitterness against mere men who need guidance from a Holy God, the ONE who is really in charge of all things.
I prayed for President Bush and I will pray for President Obama. I hope you all will do the same.

I heard an elderly Southern gentleman call into a public radio program today. He was a Republican who had voted for McCain. But he said he understood that this is a proud and historic moment for the US.
He understood how meaningful the Obama win is, especially for African Americans, and he is proud of his country for that.
He said that as a Christian, he will pray for Obama. He is hoping for the best and praying that the country can begin to come together.
It was so uplifting and inspiring to hear this man speak. We should all be so gracious, Republicans and Dems alike. This country would be a better place.
I’m going to stop visiting these boards, where there is so much negativity, and go back to public radio. There are always some good, smart, posts here, but the negative ones are just too sad and narrow-minded to take. Public radio is just so much better…

Diane,
“JIMMY CARTER WAS THE WORST PRESIDENT EVER!!!”
Jimmy Carter said we needed to conserve energy and find alternatives to middleeastern oil. Reagan said he was a loon and all he needed to do was tell the Saudi’s to increase production.
At the time we were importing roughly 20 someodd % of our oil,,, now we are importing 70 someodd %.
Then he just redistributed wealth with Defense contracts and ran the debt up.
1980 was a wrong turn and we are just seeing the effects of it now.

Pitiful…not the President, all of you who for the past several years have done nothing but call this man names, insult him and his family, and wish him ill. Regardless, you now say that we must all get behind and support Barak Obama, and we will. That is the difference, those of you who write these cruel things, and are filled with hate, will continue to hate, but whom? Those of us who consider Pres. Bush a patriot, will not come out and trash Obama. We will pray for him. Not wish him ill like the majority of the liberals who no longer show any tolerance towards people with differing views. No…the Democrats of old are gone, and no longer an inclusive group. If you don’t think like them, you are a hate monger, but the only people spewing hate on this site, are the liberals and democrats. Let’s pray that Obama guides this country well, but I am fearful he will not.
I for one am thankful for President Bush, and wish him well in his future, and am eternally thankful to him for all he has done to keep this country safe.
Thank You Mr. President…and God Speed.

Randy, please: let’s be honest. There is plenty of that (intolerance toward people who hold different views) to go around on both sides of the political spectrum. No party has a monopoly on that.
There will always be tolerant and intolerant people on both sides, let’s not pretend that’s not the case. That’s just disingenuous.

Bush has been a good President in a difficult time. Those who say he’s not smart are mistaken–he got better grades at Princeton than Kerry did even though the popular myth was that Kerry was the relative genius. Those who say he’s a liar, etc., are mistaken–he’s a man who means what he says, does what he says he will do, and does it in spite of how the wind of popular opinion is blowing. Perhaps no other President would keep on doing what he believe to be the best thing for this country in spite of how much abuse he had to take. Those who point to how Iraq turned out forget that it might have been worse if Saddam had shown the impotence of the West and been left alone with no inspections. They forget the invasion stopped Iran’s nuclear weapons development cold for several years (out of fear), turned Libya in our direction, and made the potential trouble spots of the world take note that they might be next if they became hotbeds of terrorism. What the world might be like if nothing had been done is hard to say, but it could easily be far worse by now. And yes, only one or two shipped or trucked nukes to major world cities (and the uncertainty if there might be more) would destroy the highly interconnected global economy without question and put most people out of work, out of money, and shortly out of everything.
I will support and respect Obama when he becomes President, even when I disagree with specific actions. There have been a couple of wars (Vietnam and Iraq) which would have finished sooner and with less death (on both sides) if the adversaries had seen an united American people behind the soldiers. Our division has inspired terrorists and fanatics to keep pushing.
The hypocrites who not only disagree with our leaders’ decisions, but trash them personally and belittle them in every way, are only crapping in their own yard. The President represents you. Little minds and tiny hearts that might not be listened to or tolerated in person can type to their hearts’ content in posts like this. But many of you should get over the illusion that you have a clue about what decisions the President should have made, be making, or should make in the future. You are pretty much ignorant, partly-conscious, popular-media indoctrinated little brats who are projecting their own unconscious demons onto people in authority in the real world. Grow up or shut up.

the republicans problem is they were spending to much at the party instead of taking care of our country

Posted by: B. | November 6, 2008, 8:23 pm 8:23 pm

Absolutely, but I do not recall ever seeing the amount of pure “Hate” that people have shown towards Pres. Bush. Mostly starting with people in congress allowing it and not showing respect for the office. Unfortunate that people now feel its okay to openly insult “our” President the way they do. Never was done before, and I am not sure why its okay now. This is part of the reason the rest of the world thinks its okay to call our president names and openly insult him. Used to be Politics ended at the waters edge, but no more. Who is to blame for that????

always remember, you are not forced to live here and can leave any time if you dont like it.
you idiots wishing bad things or death to him are an insult to this country.
I DID NOT VOTE FOR OBAMA BUT I NEVER WOULD DISRESPECT HIM LIKE SOME OF YOU HERE HAVE DONE TO OUR CURRENT PRESIDENT.

I think that the American people are the blame for Bush’s election. The first one was rigged and the supreme court should all be fired for allowing the people of America to undergo injustices right before their face. With the spying, false war we’re in; has undermined the econmomy. Those who are responsible have enough money to enjoy ther lives during the next 4 years. But what about us who were not furtunate. We have to rely on Obama to rescue us from what is almost an impossible fate. I pray for President elect Obama, who will be blamed for all this; along with the democratic congress who were put there to absorb the blame. To undermine everything the republicans’ have done, it will take at least 12 years of occupying the white house. nothing less than that will fix the problems. You can’t fix a twelve year problem in 4 yrs without leaving some of them there. If we Americans had anything like equity, jobs and a leader with a vision; we wouldn’t be in this mess now. But when you only care about a few and not the majority, that governoment will not survive. Thanks Mr Bush for at least electing Ms Rice to an office of high aurhority You have done something….but not enough!

Posted by: 666 | November 6, 2008, 8:44 pm 8:44 pm

Taking a cue from “Concerned American” – Respect is earned, not given simply because of where one sits. Obama lost most peoples respect long ago (by associating w/ a known terrorist, a known racist, by saying “a white man’s greed runs a world in need,” by stating that “spreading the wealth around” is good, by stating that he “chose his friends wisely” and stating that those friends were “Marxist” etc, etc). He has shown poor judgment, a monochromatic view of the world indicating a simple mind unable to deal with complexities, and an inability to do his primary job, uphold the laws of the land.

Posted by: Rob | November 6, 2008, 8:51 pm 8:51 pm

Psychologically, when people passionately “hate” someone, it is usually because the hatee exhibits traits of human nature which the hater has suppressed or continually fails to develop into their own consciousness. They are half-conscious people who are being hammered from within by a part of themselves which is battling them to be allowed to become conscious. They are projecting what is buried in them onto the appropriate target on the outside. If the target is, for example, one who has authority, the power and the will to act, respect for practical solutions, courage, and a belief in God, then what do you suppose is the conscious makeup of those who hate him so much? Perhaps impotent, powerless, neurotic, scared little wusses who think they are too smart to believe in anything, especially God. So their innate missing qualities war with them in their unconscious to be heard, and the morons project their battle onto Bush and Cheney, failing to realize it’s their own unconscious qualities they are fighting to suppress and always will be until they become whole people. Human nature is at heart almost identical in every culture, sex, race, and time. It’s just that most people never become fully human. That’s why we have so much passionate hate.

America and much of the rest of the world is relieved that Bush and the likes of him might finally be gone. Their ideology and use of fear, terror, poor judgment of deregulation and organized religion in their efforts to create an imperial US presidency has cause tremendous suffering around the world. The Bush legacy will be considered the worst president and administration in America’s history. It will take many years to try and reverse the damage these individuals have caused. As for Bush being a “Good Man” this might be true depending on one’s point or reference, reality is Bush lacks the qualities of human greatness required of a great leader and a great American president.

Posted by: rupunzel | November 6, 2008, 9:10 pm 9:10 pm

Oh Randy,
Sometimes smack downs are appropriate. Sometimes violence is the answer. Not as an instrument of hate and anger, but because it can finally get some obstinate fool’s attention, or prevent more violence. Good judgment is the only inviolable rule which must be followed. Experience, among other things, teaches good judgment. Times when I’ve been smacked down were occasionally good lessons for me though I hated the smacker and didn’t enjoy the experience.
Too many Americans, left, right, young, old, black, white, don’t understand the need for and power of unity and are truly brats (and brats have a difficult time seeing that they’re brats). They don’t realize what they stand to lose, which is potentially everything. About 60 years ago, 100 million people died because of poor decisions by good countries and impractical, yet peace-loving people who failed to act when they should have. History will repeat, only next time it could be far worse. Let’s try to put it off for a while, at least.
So I stand by my last two sentences in the post before last.

Posted by: robert e | November 6, 2008, 9:13 pm 9:13 pm

rapunzel–I agree that much of the world is relieved that we have a new President, and I also believe that having people here and abroad feeling positive about our President is in itself a great thing. I also am very happy that his election is an especially moving and symbolic example and source of pride for non-whites the world over.
However, though as I’ve said, our citizenry is fairly ignorant and not even close, on average, to being as bright as most of our Presidents, I don’t believe that people ABROAD have even risen to that level, so what they think isn’t necessarily an indicator of how a President should act.
As an example, if Churchill, who was warning about Hitler prior to WWII, had been Prime Minister and not Chamberlain, perhaps Germany’s rearmament would have been stopped by a British-led European mini invasion. That invasion would have cost lives; it would have destroyed infrastructure; it would have caused the Germans to really hate the invaders; and it might not have been a permanent solution. It could have led to all kinds of painful problems. Without doubt, Churchill would have been assailed by critics who could point at all the negatives resulting from his temporary invasion. Churchill, on the other hand, would have been unable to point to anything concrete, only his conviction that the invasion was necessary to prevent later tragedy and loss of life. There’s no way to convincingly point at evidence which shows what “would have happened.”
Well, in real history, unfortunately, Chamberlain was Prime Minister and he wanted peace at any cost. The other European leaders, who also knew early on that Germany was violating the Treaty of Versailles, which forbade Germany rearming, chose the peaceful, safe, route and did nothing–EVEN THOUGH it would have been ridiculously easy to stop that rearming early on and fully justified by the treaty Germany had signed (just like Saddam).
So, thanks to popular, peace-loving, do-nothing leaders, 100 million people died, most of whom weren’t even soldiers.
Leaders who play it safe, never making unpopular decisions, always being “for” the good things–peace, helping the poor, mom and apple pie–they are easy to love, but they can eventually get you killed if they don’t also have the realistic instincts to act when it’s necessary.
Bush’s legacy won’t be determined until the chapter of history on global terrorism and religious fanatic jihads is finished. When it’s finished, Bush could be remembered like Churchill, but hampered by a lack of support in Congress, the media, and the citizenry in doing the necessary things; or, he could be seen as overreacting and a poor President. One thing is for certain, Rapunzel–YOU don’t know the answer. For now, he should be respected for doing what he believed was necessary and given the benefit of the doubt.

Corrections … Bill Clinton was the worst, most evil and immoral president of the 20th century.
Obama will most likely exceed Bill in many respects, and be the worst president in office in the first decade of the 21st century and perhaps the entire century.
So get ready for the government to dig their hands deeper in our pockets taking money out of the private sector and putting it into the control of professional bureacrats, expand the practice of murdering unborn babies, give our rights away to foreign entities, establish greater and broader immoral habits, and enslave a whole nation. Get ready to see our government partner with the likes of Chavez. Get ready to see us weaken our alliance with Israel. Get ready to see more handouts to special groups. Get ready to see our government live out “all men are created equal just some are more equal than others”. Get ready to see the entitlement mentality as exhibited by New Orleans grow to other cities.
Get ready cuz it’s coming like a freight train. Don’t forget, too, when it all happens that it happened as a result of who got put into office in the elections of November 2008 and then remember how you voted.

50 years from now, Bush will be looked upon as Winston Churchill is now. He stayed the course, even when it was not popular, and like him or not, we have not had another 9/11 since 9/11. I only hope in 4 years we can still say the same thing. Hopefully since we are stuck with him, O will be better than the last two Dem Presidents, a Peanut Farmer and a chronic Liar.
Keep in mind Bush has been one of the most criticized Presidents in history, yet he stayed the course. Its funny that liberals are already whining about “equal time” for leftist talk shows to match up with conservative ones. One critical comment about their BS and they cry, cry, cry. They were smart to pick O, he talks a good game, but in two years I have a feeling there will be a Republican majority in Congress again after the true art of lies, mismanagement, and ignorance present themselves in a Democrat controlled government.
God Bless President Bush and those who have served under him. If you don’t like me or others showing our support for our President, go lobby for legislation to ban it. I am sure that is coming anyway……..

WHILE WE CAN NOT BUT ACCEPT THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE SINCE WE HAVE A DEMOCRATIC NATION, THIS ELECTION PROVED SOMETHING THAT WE NEED TO OVERHAUL THE EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM OF THIS NATION, IT IS NO DOUBT DETERIORATING TO ITS LOWEST LEVEL. AND NO DOUBT IT IS HAPPENING BECAUSE WE REMOVED MANY THINGS IMPORTANT TO EDUCATE OUR MINDS AND OUR HEARTS. WE REMOVED THEOLOGY / RELIGION FROM CURRICULUM BY VIRTUE OF SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE AND WE SEE PEOPLE WHO SPOKE THEIR SHALLOW VOICES.A LOT OF PEOPLE VOTED MORE FOR GOOD ECONOMY THAN PRINCIPLES, BELIEVING THAT IT IS THE GOVERNMENT JOB TO IMPROVE THEIR PLIGHT WHICH IS FARTHER FROM THE TRUTH. SOME PEOPLE LIKE A BAMBOO SWAYED TO THE DANCE OF “FAMOUS PEOPLE” THINKING THAT THESE PEOPLE HAVE A BETTER BRAIN THAN THEM WHEN IN FACT, THESE PEOPLE ARE SHALLOW PEOPLE TOO. SOME ALSO GOT FOOLED BY THE LIBERAL MEDIA, THEY HAVE FORGOTTEN TO THINK FOR THEMSELVES. A LOT TOO MAY NOT HAVE EVEN TAKEN HISTORY SUBJECTS. IT IS REALLY A SAD FACT THAT AMERICA WHICH IS THE BEST NATION WOULD NOT CONFRONT THIS PROBLEM NOW. I DO NOT KNOW IF PRESIDENT-ELECT OBAMA WOULD TRY TO CONFRONT AND SOLVE THE PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM IS OBAMA HIMSELF TOO IS SUFFERING FROM IGNORANCE ESPECIALLY IN THE MATTER OF PRINCIPLES OF LIFE. TO THIS DAY HE IS STILL IN DENIAL THAT WITHIN THE WOMB OF A PREGNANT WOMAN LIES A REAL HUMAN BEING AND NOT BLOB OF TISSUES.

Yet, I also do not see any more terrorists attacks after 9/11 something that if Clinton would have handle instead of Monica it wouldn’t have happened. Yes, I hope Obama does well, but I also hope that in four years you all are not again saying what a horrible president he was. We forget the good and only remember the bad.

It’s not like anyone is FORCING abortions on those who do not choose them, nor are we being told that we cannot worship as we choose. Get off your bully pulpit, and get over yourselves! God will judge all according to His wisdom. “Judge not, lest ye be judged”.

The Bush administration thrived on a “them vs. us” mentality that has caused great friction in this country and with other countries. Because of the Bush administration, people have been forced into blue and red categories when many of us are truly a blend of both. Because of the Bush adminstration, people are mean and judgemental about other people’s beliefs. Also under the Bush administration, the amount of people in poverty grew each year, the gap between the “Haves” and the “Have Nots” is the largest since the Roaring 20s (which as we all know proceeded the Great Depression, the average life span of Americans has decreased (mostly because of lack of access to affordable health care) and the difference between the highest and the lowest paid employees is at an all time high. Yes, the Bush administration attempted to avenge 9/11 and has prevented another attack on our soil, but at what cost?

Suzeet,
The problem with a lot of us is we blame practically everyone except ourselves. Funny it seems all problems, seems to be created by Pres. Bush and that is pathethic. If my parents esp. my mom relied on the government, there would not be three medical doctors ,three engineers, three lawyers, one architect and one teacher in our family. We lived simply and my parents worked very hard. The word, bargain, discount, resonated in my ears for years and by grace of God we survived and succeeded. If only people live by God principles. “Seek yeah first the kingdom of God and all these things shall be added unto you.”
We did not support Obama not bec. of his color but because of his ignorance concerning principles of life like abortion. Being a supposed to be educated person, he should know better that abortion is killing of innocent human beings.
We will still support him being the pres-elect but we will never stooped down to his level when it comes to his denial of basic fundamental truths such as the sanctity of human life.

Posted by: mild rubio | November 6, 2008, 11:58 pm 11:58 pm

Why is life so sacred ONLY before it gets born? Why isn’t the endangered life of the mother sacred? Why isn’t the life of the cold, hungry, homeless child sacred? Why aren’t the lives of soldiers and war-torn civilians sacred? These are the things I NEVER understand about the Right to Life bunch. Why do you stop caring about human life as soon as it REALLY starts?

This country is in “Grave” danger from the election of Obama. The fools that voted for Obama have no clue what is in the works for them. After looking at a majority of the fools in the park that night when Obama gave his speech, they were 75% or more college kids. Those are the fools Obama paid to vote for him. Now, the voters have spoken; just don’t cry when we get attacked as Joe Biden said in his speech as the next V.P. to Obama. Biden said, within the first 6 months, this country will be tested. That means attacked and Russia has already started. You fools that voted for Obama, the hurt that will come to you and your families will be tem times that of 911. The next attack on this country will be swift and you won’t even know its happening. You voted for Obama not even knowing the man. You will see how much of a man he really is if this country is attacked like his V.P. elect, Joe Biden, said in a news conference. What I want from Obama is very simple, in his speeches throughout his debates, he said that if elected, he will spread the wealth. When am I going to get my first check? He is living in a million dollar house right now and the state he grew up in, Chicago is a dump. Why hasn’t he fixed Chicago all these years? His half brother living on one dollar a month, where is his “spread the wealth”? Wouldn’t you think he would take care of family? Obama is a dirty fraud! mark my words, who ever voted for him, if this country gets attacked like Joe Biden said it would, don’t start blaming President Bush! You can go cry to your family and friends for being pretty talked by a fraud, Obama and Biden!

I am amazed reading articles that are so negative of our President. Do you know what information he has been given, do you think that you could do better, at what point would you blame a Democratic Congress for the Economic meltdown. The lady that calls him “a baby killer and rot in hell” has never had to make a hard decision, never been in charge of other peoples wellfare and had to make difficult changes or been in a leadership role. I voted for Obama and am exited about our national changes. There is a full right of Freedom of Speech, but to those people who are so hateful I can’t imagine what great thing they have done in their life to be the person to “throw the first stone.”
Embrace change, and a new direction and look for the good in things. I wish President Bush and his family a great retirement, and appreciate their time and effort in leading our country. I am an American and proud of her! A MAYE

This Wall Street melt down was taking place while Alan Greenspan was in office under the other dirty President’s post, Bill Clinton. Another dirty fraud you voted for. You dam fools will never learn. All the posts on this board are from young stupid fools who want to save the world. Guess what, you are dealing with terror right now and those people want to bring down the US. You have no clue what you did by voting for Obama and listening to his B.S. Sen. McCain spent more time as a P.O.W than Obama has spent as a Senator. Again, if this country is attacked like Joe Biden, the next V.P. said in his speech, don’t come crying to the people that told you so, you should go pick a grave sight out for you and your family because if the US is hit again by terror, you will be in trouble while your know it all President, Obama is in hiding!!! You dam fools have killed this country!

Oh God, you Bush lovers make me sick! For one thing, most of the people were not college kids as you would have us believe. Yes, we had a lot of kids vote and I am very happy for that. We have a new generation voting. What the Hell is wrong with that? You are the type that sits back and complains about the kids not doing a thing but playing video games and smoking pot. Sorry, but they woke up to the lies of the right and how the bible thumpers were controlling the right wing. Good Bye Bush and dont let the door hit you on your way out. To bad Obama has class and wont put you in prison were he belongs. I was a republican, but I woke up half way through his first term…… Go away and let America fly again. Posted by: Allen Carpenter | November 7, 2008, 12:35 am 12:35 am

I don’t know why so many of you keep blaming Clinton for 9/11. During the transition, wasn’t it the Clinton administration that first briefed Bush on Osama bin Laden? Wasn’t it Condie Rice who pooh-poohed the intelligence reports that warned us before the attack? It’s not Clinton’s fault that he couldn’t find and stop bin Laden, unless it is Bush’s FAULT that bin Laden is STILL out there, possibly plotting and planning the NEXT attack as we speak! There is MORE than enough blame to go around. And not much of it really belongs on ANY of the Presidents. There are far more “indians” involved here than “chiefs”.

Posted by: NV-Sparkle | November 7, 2008, 12:42 am 12:42 am

Don’t worry about all the Bush Bashers, half of them don’t have enough intellect to know a good decision from a bad one. Here’s one thing for sure–Less than a year after Obama moves into the White House, it will be the Bush Bashers who will be crying the loudest. And before the Obama term is up, the country will be wishing they voted for McCain. President Bush stood strong for what was right and moral—one of the many things the Bush Bashers don’t have the back bone to do. President Bush did have and always will have a good heart. Thank God we had him for 8 years. But you Obamanation nuts wanted change. I hope you remember how much you wanted change when it starts to affect your finances and your freedom. You might want to educate yourselves a bit on the definition of socialism.

They know where it’s coming from. From the north south east and west. God, no wonder Rush is on drugs, having to talk to these kooks all day long! Nothing but a bunch of racist fools. Damn red neck assholes!

Another stupid question by a fool! For your information, President Bush has already informed Obama that during the transition of power is when the U.S. might be attacked. If you know how to read, you would have seen it on the news and online. Another nut case that voted for Obama! You want change; you got change plus some so get ready for a party! Call Joe Biden and ask him why Obama wouldn’t let him speak after he said on public TV that the U.S. would be attacked if Obama was elected! You have no clue because you didn’t do your research before voting for the fraud from Chicago who had organized crime help him purchase his first home. You dam fools won’t learn until this country is in the ground! We are now not considered a super power anymore due to the fool you placed in office with no experience! Like I said, stop posting online, start search online for a grave stone for you and your family. Joe Biden said it, this country will be hit and tested. You voted for him so go listen to him, get ready for a war! Go pick your grave stone and plot so we that didn’t vote for the fraud can put you in the whole after we come out of hiding! Ha

Allen Carpenter, probably your fake no backbone name, I see you are in Hell already since you know it is a long trip to the place where you live! You and your family, friends and other fools that voted for the fraud, go get your bags packed with all kinds of survival stuff. You just might be in the forest for the rest of your life soon if Joe Biden is correct! You’ll be so lost that you’ll be having sexxxx with animals. You must know what that is like being in Hell? Go read your born again papers, if this country is hit like Joe Biden said, you’ll wish you were born again alright! You dam fool! By the way, you fools that voted for Obama the fraud, did you see that they already arrested some skin heads for plotting to kill him among other people? This is just the beginning! Get ready, you put the fraud in office, you will pay the price!

Andrea Caruso – - – Aren’t you the songbird? If YOU had done some research, you would know that your accusations were proven false some time ago. Please stop calling people nasty names just because they don’t happen to ascribe to your theories. (That means they don’t agree with your cockamamie ideas, in case you didn’t understand the vocabulary.) You don’t know as much as you THINK you do. But, with luck, you will learn over the next 4 years. We will ALL have to wait to see what develops and how the new administration will handle it. NO ONE comes to the office of POTUS with prior experience. They all have to learn as they go along. Some do, and some don’t. Just like people on these boards.

Posted by: NV-Sparkle | November 7, 2008, 1:16 am 1:16 am

YES, thats my name and proud of Obama. Jusy leave if you don’t like who we put in office. Unlike your President, Obama won without the Courts putting him in office AND he won with 52% of the vote. I never said such hateful things about the man you all love. I voted for Reagan and was proud of the vote. If we had someone running like him again, I would vote for him. I vote for the person, not the party. Look in the mirror and see what a hateful racist you are. Youll need more than your bible. Just go to be and let the younger generation take over what your generation screwed up. I’m done with wasting my time on trash such as you, so goodnight, sleep with one eye open because the booby man just may pop out and get you, Honey!

Posted by: Allen Carpenter | November 7, 2008, 1:19 am 1:19 am

Ok you dam fools, let me start to fill you in on the real events that are unfolding as your sweet heart that you voted for takes office.
Plot unfolds to assassinate Obama on national TV, a 4th arrest, more details
More details emerging from Denver as we write this in the predawn hours on the now-suspected plot to assassinate Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama with a high-powered rifle on national television during his outdoor acceptance speech at Invesco Field on Thursday night.
Authorities have reported a fourth arrest in the unfolding plot that The Ticket first wrote about here a few hours ago at the end of Monday night’s Democratic National Convention events at the Pepsi Center.
Like I said, if Joe Biden is correct, get ready for a war that we will not win! Obama will run and leave the US people behind! He has no experience to control any war! The man is not even a U.S. citizen! Notice how he went to Hawaii to see his grandmother? Why did she pass days later? Do you think he is getting rid of people that can prove he is not a U.S. citizen? Any thoughts you dam fools! I really feel bad if he killed his grandmother! If he did, his next 4 years will be a living hell because it will come back to haunt him! He is a fraud with no US Citizenship papers. You voted for the fraud, now pay the price!

A.C. **** Now you have gone TOO far! Have a LITTLE respect for the dead! You are uneducated and a raving bigot. If the “attack” on America comes, YOU will be blown up by it, too! You call others “fools”, but my dear, departed Grandmother passed down some advice that would serve you well. “It is better to remain silent, and be THOUGHT a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt”. Good night and good luck! YOU are going to need it!

Some comments in here are really disrespectful and frankly it is quite sad. By no means am I a Bush sympathizer. I voted for Bush in 2000 and Kerry in 2004. How can someone possibly say they hope Bush rots in hell? Regardless of your politics we are all Americans and the President should be respected by all Americans. You don’t have to agree with the man but you should respect the office. As far as his presidential ranking, only time will tell. The Bush legacy will be determined by events in the Middle East. Both parties are responsible for events that have occurred in this country. America needs a strong third party and Politicians who put country before their self interests.

No one on earth expected us to even go 1 year afterwards without an attack, but as you keep the terrorists on the run, they were too busy to hatch up any long term drastic US plans (like they did with Clinton in charge).

I have always believed that our country’s problems were not to be blamed on President Bush. I think he has done a fine job and many folks should realize that there are more folks involved in making decisions for this country then just the President. This includes the democrats and republicans in the House, Senate etc… He has done a good job and I am proud he has been my President. He will be missed at the oval office. Best wishes to him and his family.

A good man, a president not a savior, lets us always remember that of our leaders. They are but mortal men, imperfect, fallible but prayerfully always decent and courageous.
President George W. Bush leaves with a maligned legacy in the present that will find much redemption with the passage of time. He is the Harry Truman of the new century.

I keep seeing people refer to the president as the Commander-in-Chief of America. There is no such thing. That is saying that he is the boss of all Americans. We Americans have no boss. We are the boss. That is why we elect our representatives to speak for us and do the jobs we want done. He is the Commander-in-Chief of the US Armed Forces. That means he is above the highest General in the military. There is no Commander-in-Chief of the American people. We have no gang boss. We are the government and Congress just represents us. We hire and fire them if they don’t do what we want. That is what we learned in 8th grade Civics class. Sorry about the rant but we are responsible for ourselves and when we turn the over to someone else, that increases the chances that they’ll screw it up. Pay close attention and do your part.

Thank heavens, the moron is finally leaving office. Good riddance!!!
I hope he and Cheney are prosecuted for war crimes and other crimes and offences against the nation and the people. They should not be allowed to hide behind the fact of his previous presidency and to get away scott free. An example needs to be made of them, as a lesson to future aspiring morons and would-be-tyrannts.

Bush did not vote to go to war all by himself, and democrats have as much to blame over the economy as anyone if you do not think so you are just uninformed. Remember we are still not living in fear. Also extreme taxes on oil companies and corporations will be passed on to you the consumer.

To the people on here that think he was the best president, think again. He lied about Iraq ( you know those wmd’s) that he thought were sure in Iraq. He never got a agreement in the middle east peace deal, but he was sure he would be able too,he pretty much told the entire world to kiss his butt, do I really need to go on because we could be here awhile. He failed to pretty much do the things that he said he he was going to do. The biggest failure that he did was not finding bin laden. He took his eye off the ball in Afghanistan were the people who attacked us really were and were diverted to Iraq where those people had nothing to do with 9-11. I am not saying that saddam was a good guy, far from it but that fact will always ramain that he messed up by taking resources away that were needed to find bin laden.I am a military wife and I am angry that he did that and now we are in 2 wars and the military is stretched to its breaking point.I never liked him I thought that he was a failure and he turned out to be just that. TO the people on here that say we should not be talking about him like that, my husband fights for your right and anybody elses to say what they want to about bush so deal with it.

Democrats are as much to blame for the economic crisis that we’re in. Find the NY Times article from September 30, 1999 titled, “Fannie Mae Eases Credit to Aid Mortgage Lending.”
One quote from the article:
“Fannie Mae, the nations biggest underwriter of home mortgages, has been under increasing pressure from the CLINTON ADMINISTRATION to expand mortgage loans among low and moderate income people and felt pressure from stock holders to maintain its phenomenal growth in profits.”
Article also says:
“Fannie Mae is taking on significantly more risk, which may not pose any difficulties during flush economic times. But the government-subsidized corporation may run into trouble in an ECONOMIC DOWNTURN, prompting a government rescue similar to that of the savings and loan industry of the 1980′s”.
They new the economic meltdown would happen and still did it. Go Clinton!

It amazes me how quick people are to think that one man (i.e. the president) has complete control to steer the country into the situation we find ourselves. He is the leader of the free world, and it is his responsibility to lead this country, but he doesn’t do it alone. Watch an episode of School House Rock and even a child knows that one person does not make the decisions for the entire country on their own. Bush has done some pretty stupid things, as presidents before him have, he has deceived people in attempts to pursue his own agenda. It is pretty hard for one person to guide the country to create our current situation in only 8 years…last time I checked many economist attribute the current housing market crisis to policies/practices implemented during the Clinton administration.
Don’t get me wrong, I think he unfortuantely created a fear within society that has caused the public to lose faith, but I also think many presidents before him have done the same at one point in time or another. Before you go pointing the finger at the one person who holds the top spot…keep in mind, like in business, there is a board (i.e. congress) that has a heavy hand in making/controlling the decisions and direction for this country, one man cannot do it alone. It’s that whole checks and balances thing.

Welcome President Elect O’Bama. Even though Hillary Clinton was my choice, I voted for you in the last round so you can rest assured that you did get my vote.

Bush didn’t always make the best choices but he is not as bad as everyone says he is. If not for everyone’s feelings of the war he would not be so hated. In years to follow when we see Iraq and other coutries prosper we will have a different opinion of George Bush and he still is a President and deserves our respect. We all critisize people for talking bad about people who we like and when there not liked we allow people to talk badly about folks. We as people should not be so direspectful to our leaders(we chose) You would not be any better yourself.

Thank you Pres. Bush. You have made mistakes, but don’t we all…You made me feel protected after 9/11. Today I’m better off than I was 8 years ago. Times have been hard, but history is full of hard times. The war has been hell, but you tried to make the world a better place. I do hope it’s done 7 over real soon. I have friends in our forces over in Iraq & they are proud of the work they have done to help those people. You are not a king or god, you are human. Too bad people can’t remember that…also too bad people can’t remember that we have people in DC who are too busy playing a power game, instead of being busy passing bills & so forth. The problems going on in this country sit on many shoulders not just on one. God Bless & keep this country

McCain lost because he & Sarah were clearly not the smart choice for the Republican’s Party, and Bush is not the only one to blame for the current state of the economy, but rather both sides are to blame including the people of this country living beyond their means, and greedy executives. I agree that the war in Iraq made no sense to me, but Bush is only the scape goat for the serious of unfortunate events no President had to handle before him all at once, and no one mentioned that the economy really started to plummets when the Dems dominated more seats at the Hill. Lets see how Obama will fare, I hope he really exercise bipartisanship as he has claims in his campaign. I will support and rally behind whom every is in office regardless of Party, because it is about Country First and true patriotism, and that’s what bring unity, that’s what will bring this country together, not bickering and whining, as the saying goes unity we stand divided we fall, and according to these previous post Dems are going to continue to behave in the same childish manner. Obama needs to lead from the center, to show us Reps true bipartisanship, and appoint a Rep. to his administration.
And BTW I am a Black Women and a Republican, and since I was unhappy with both parties I voted for my party as a default.

I personally think that -
- We should not use derogatory language for any president, be it Bush or any other president. It is one thing to have anger or frustration and it is another thing to insult the president. How will the world respect the president of the US, if the American people don’t?
- America re-elected him for the second term. If people did not like his way of handling things, they had a very good chance to get someone else to run the office and lead the country.
I have supported now president-elect Obama and if for any reason if he is not able to keep his promises, I will feel frustrated but that will not give me the right to use bad words for him. In fact, I feel, among all the candidates Obama was the only one using right words to describe failed policies of the Bush administration. That shows culture.

To TJ who says that President Bush “destroyed the fabric of society”, tortured “innocent” people, “spied” on innocent people; etc. etc.: I don’t know what fabric you are talking about, Slugger, as far as I can see people are still falling in love, getting married, having children, going to school, going to baseball games, eating their minds out, listening to rap, and are proud to be an American…I mean, you are soooo Michale Moore. As for torturing “innocent” people, Oh my God, dude, zip it. Unless you work for the CIA in the Middle East or the military in Guantanamo or Iraq, your conclusions do not have no bearing at all. You know nothing about any one of these “innocents”. Nor do you know how highly secret intelligence programs really work so bury your “innocent” civilians chatter, too. You and your family have been kept alive by President Bush for 7 years. No terrorist has been in your midst exploding his guts out just to kill you. No missile has been fired into your work place, nor have your children’s school been taken over by terrorists like in Russia a few years back. You should at least be grateful to this decent man for all of that. Alas, I have only tried to educate you.
I hope your irrational hatred does not get in the way.

All,
Forgive me, but I have not read all of your comments. I got halfway through before daring to post my own. I could be asking for trouble by joining the fray, but here goes nothing:
I support Bush. I voted for McCain. I did it because I believe that this country needs someone with experience at the helm, especially in these difficult times. Bush made mistakes, I’ll grant. But he is human. Do any of us really know what we would do if we were him? 9/11 was a dreadful attack that should be imprinted in our minds forever. Have some of you forgotten that? Bush needed to respond somehow. While we may disagree with the exact response, have any of you considered that at the time it may have appeared as the best option? How many times have you made similar decisions in your own life, where a decision needs to be made quickly, and you realize that you made the wrong one? It happens to me everyday. The difference is that I don’t run the free world. I am so grateful to anyone who is willing to do that for me.
P.S. Oldr Bush/McCain supporters: I am 25, and I am one of you. Many of my friends also agree. Please don’t blame my entire generation for electing No-bama.

Fortunately Bush is gone forever. All right wing fanatics can lie about how “great” he was or that he was some kind of victim of circumstances or other such blather, but the main fact is Bush is gone and there is nothing the necons can do about it except rant on history’s judgment or that war and economic theft was necessary or any other wild ideas they desire. The majority of americans have chosen a different course and the relief from Bush’s departure is palpable.

This was ready to happen after 9/11 but he did things to secure not only our physical safety but also our economic stability. The media is already starting to turn on Obama, they have to sell ad space and sadly negative sells.

Bush was elected by the American people. He represents the majority of this country, people that have no desire to be cutting edge and the best at what they do unlike their fore- fathers. We are responsible for him being in the government and voting for him twice. Even most Americans have no clue about what goes on outside their borders (and I mean state borders, its that bad). Only we should be blamed.

My response to those who still lack basic understanding is below. It would seem the entire youth of America is all together worthless and arrogant. You deserve a World War or an invasion of your lands. You spit on your leaders who defend your interest while swallowing the lies of propagandists. You accuse the “religious right” of destroying politics when Christianity is the foundation of Western civilization. Ignorant fools – in the end, your regret will be worse than the man who looses his home due to his irresponsible ways. Trust me, Uncle Sam won’t be able to bail you out of God’s righteous judgement on your horizon.
“He who corrects a scoffer gets shame for himself, and he who rebukes a wicked man only harms himself. Do not correct a scoffer, lest he hate you; Rebuke a wise man, and he will love you. Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; Teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.” (Proverbs 9:7-9)

i pray that president Obama is a good president (even thought i did not vote for him) and that he does the right things for ALL americans.

GW Bush will do down in history as a great president, just like Harry Truman.
Today Truman is regarded as a great president, but left office with one of the lowest approval ratings ever.
just remember that a few years from now, all you Bush haters out there, there will come a day when you will have to eat your words.

If I agree to give full respect to B. Obama for the next four years, will you guys give President Bush some for the next 2 1/2 months? Bush was dealt a rough hand, but I’m glad he was there. 9/11 happened because of Clinton’s failures. Bush had to deal with it. Can you imagine what the US might be like if Gore had been pres on 9/11/01? Bush was strongheaded and imperfect, but give him some credit for his accomplishments such as AIDS funding, John Roberts, and tough stance on terrorism.

Just so you know, I voted for the man the first time. Couldnt do it the second and cant stand McCain. I vote for the person, not the party as do many people, so I would stop trying to blame a Party. Right after 9/11, George W. Bush led this country ably… He brought the war to the terrorists which in effect stopped the terrorist from bringing the war to the U.S. of A. Reading people’s comments here shows me that most don’t understand how the Executive (President) and the Legislative (Congress) branches function. It also shows me that most are ignorant about the economic situation we’re in right now — that it wasn’t the President’s fault, but the greed of Corporations and its executives… these Corporations thought they can make money by lending to those that can’t afford, and just let whoever last touches it, hold the empty bag… it backfired… and now the economy’s in turmoil and it’s being blamed on no other than our good President, George W. Bush…. Mr. President, more power to you sir!!!

This is to Smitty Smith and the others who cannot get over the Bush dissmal years. Just remember one thing: when Clinton left office, we had a prosperous country. Jobs were easily found. Uneployment and foreclosures were not a national problem. And, best of all, this man and his cabinet had balanced the USA budget which had been a rare occurrance in the USA!! You may not have approved of his shenannigans (Lewinsky, etc.), but he was the best president we had in years and years..
That is the “hope” that has elected Obama. However, the main reason he is our president is because the depletion and deterioration of our economy. God is Good!!

No matter what Anyone says, Bush is gone. Be him good, or be him Bad. I for one can’t stand the Man, but some one else, for whatever reason, likes him. Our man is going to give it a try now. Our man won with both the majority off votes and the electoral College, PLUS we didnt need a court to rule on his win. Leave it alone. Obama will do the best he can, as did Bush. Give it a rest. It’s been 21 months of bashing. Get over the loss. McCains croud yelled to Hang Obama. That had a lot of class. Lets stop the fighting and let him do his job.

I will miss you Pres. Bush!. You did a great job. I know you did the best you could. Some people didn’t listin in school when the teacher explained how our government works. Thats a shame..I’d like to know who keeps the polls for approval ratings? I’ve never been asked my thought on if Bush was doing a good job, i would have voted YES. Everything wasn’t perfect & I don’t agree with the bail out. BUT he didn’t pass it. Perfect example of how things work in DC. DC does not care about the people of this country, unless you are giving them a fat check

President-elect Obama assembled his economic team Friday and soberly told the nation that strong action is needed to confront “the greatest economic challenge of our lifetime.”
In his first news conference since being elected Tuesday, Obama called on Congress to extend unemployment benefits and pass a stimulus bill. But his more ambitious remedies, he said, must wait until he takes office Jan. 20.
Obama displayed an air of authority and confidence, standing before a dozen economic advisers and rows of American flags as he spoke for 20 minutes. He mixed lighthearted remarks about family pets (even calling himself a “mutt”) with grim-faced assessments of the nation’s economic predicament.
“Some of the choices that we make are going to be difficult,” he said, reading a statement before taking several questions. “It is not going to be easy for us to dig ourselves out of the hole that we are in. But America is a strong and resilient country.”
Obama urged Congress to pass an economic stimulus measure and extend unemployment benefits either before or just after he takes office. As for bigger decisions, he said, the nation has “only one government and one president at a time,” and now it is President Bush.
However, he said, “immediately after I become president, I will confront this economic crisis head-on by taking all necessary steps to ease the credit crisis, help hardworking families, and restore growth and prosperity.”
“I’m confident a new president can have an enormous impact,” he said.
Obama said he would focus on producing jobs, and he mentioned actions to help the auto industry, small businesses and state and local governments.
He left open the possibility that economic conditions might prompt him to change his tax plan, which would give a break to most families but raise taxes on those making more than $250,000 annually.
“I think that the plan that we’ve put forward is the right one,” he said, “but, obviously, over the next several weeks and months, we’re going to be continuing to take a look at the data and see what’s taking place in the economy as a whole.”
Obama said he will review a congratulatory letter from Iran’s leader and respond appropriately. It’s not something “that we should simply do in a knee-jerk fashion,” he said. Obama said he wants to be careful to send the signal to the world that “I’m not the president and I won’t be until Jan. 20.”
He said he appreciated the cooperation Bush has offered in smoothing his transition to the White House and the president’s “commitment that his economic policy team keep us informed.” He expressed gratitude to Bush for inviting him and his wife, Michelle, to the White House on Monday.
Obama said he expected to have a substantive conversation with Bush. “I am not going to anticipate problems,” he said.
As he prepares to join an exclusive club of presidents, Obama said, “I’ve spoken to all of them that are living.”
“I didn’t want to get into a Nancy Reagan thing about, you know, doing any seances,” he said with a grin, an apparent exaggerated reference to the former first lady’s fondness for astrology.
Also in a lighter vein, the president-elect said his family is looking for a dog that will not trigger his daughter Malia’s allergies. Ideally, he said, it would come from an animal rescue shelter, “but obviously, a lot of shelter dogs are mutts like me.”
He presumably was referring to his heritage: his father was from Kenya, his mother was from Kansas.
Obama and Biden met before the news conference with the transition economic advisory board, a high-powered collection of business, academic and government leaders. They included Lawrence Summers, who some have mentioned as a candidate for Treasury secretary, a post he held in the Clinton administration; Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm, whose state has been hit hard by losses in the auto industry; Google CEO Eric Schmidt; and former Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker.
Others attending included executives from Xerox Corp., Time Warner Inc.; and the Hyatt hotel company. Investor Warren Buffett called in by telephone.
Obama has been meeting privately with his transition team, receiving congratulatory phone calls from foreign leaders and intelligence briefings, and making decisions about who will help run his government.
One person frequently mentioned for a Cabinet post, Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, will not be available until 2011, officials close to him said Friday. Rendell has two years left of his term, and Lt. Gov. Catherine Baker Knoll, a Democrat, is ailing. Next in line to be governor is the Republican president pro tempore the state Senate.
Rather than take the chance that the GOP would gain control of the governor’s office, Rendell has signaled he will stay put for the time being.
On Friday morning, Obama and his wife, Michelle, attended a parent-teacher conference at the University of Chicago Lab School where their daughters, Malia and Sasha, are students.

I just feel a new day has come and we are leaving a very dark chapter in our history.

Hello Lisa,
Here’s what I will and will not mind:
I won’t mind if you “bash” President Obama for making decisions that you don’t agree with, or that you think were mistakes. Especially if you also tell us why you think so.
I will mind if you repeat every Rush or GOP Talking Point of the day, even after it has been discredited. I will mind if you resort to name-calling and slander, unrelated to any specific thing that Obama says or does.
Given that you are already calling the majority of American voters “commie-liberals,” I expect that we won’t be hearing very much considered disagreements from you. I expect that your posts will be baseless rants like the last one.
BTW- I expect that you are a Conservative. Until Reagan came along, the word Liberal was the common counterpart to Conservative. There is and was never anything wrong or controversial with being a Liberal.
To paraphrase Bono, Reagan stole the word Liberal. We are going to steal it back.

If he had like John McCain.. he would have know the horrors of War and don’t everything in his power to kill who attacked our country on 9/11.. instead of trying to finish the War his father started adn did not finish.
President Ronald Reagan.. would turn over in his grave.. if he could realize what George W Bush has done to the GOP.. as it may never return to it’s former glory as it had before George W Bush came to office. I am sick my children will be paying for his mistakes for generations to come.

Bush hasn’t done much good in the past 4 years, but remember when you have to work with incompetents like Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid the Bush’s hands were tied. After 8 years of a do nothing congress things tend to pile up and get to where we are now. There is plenty of shame for all on the hill. Not one person alone, not even Obama, will be able to move this country if these other so called leaders don’t pull their heads out of the sand and get with the program. Posted by: Thomas Pain | November 8, 2008, 2:39 am 2:39 am

Of all the things I listed in my post, none had much to do with the Democratic leadership in congress. Besides, for six of Bush’s eight years, the Republicans had control.
However, things like the financial meltdown occurred in large part because of bipartisan complicity in letting the financial services industry operate without oversight.
Obama probably can’t fix all this. If nothing else, the level of national debt will eventually lead to termination of the few remaining public services (as well as military adventurism.) Infrastructure will continue to crumble, the destitute will be kicked to the curb, and the currency will become worthless. I hope this all can be avoided, but I don’t see how.
As for the ‘list of traitors who have it coming:’ that sounds eerily like the Nazi mentality. Label anyone who disagrees or stands outside the majority as unpatriotic, and condemn them to prison or death. Does the writer really want this? Apparently so. Hopefully the rest of the country will remain sane.

“the man…deserves respect we would give any human being”.
I think that’s the issue. I would not expect respect for any individual in leadership, whatever the politics, from many of the people posting on this thread, because I don’t see respect for any human being who disagrees with the poster.
It would be interesting to count the negative adjectives used in these posts, and see what percentage are used to describe other posters–I would bet that the vitriolic comments are aimed as frequently at fellow posters as they are at presidents or presidential candidates.
I think it’s possible to vigorously debate contoversial issues and at the same time treat those we are talking to and about as valuable individuals who are worthy of respect because they are human. I think it possible to give them the benefit of the doubt as to motives even when we think they are so dangerously wrong that we are prepared to significantly invest in opposing their beleifs and policies.
I think it’s called civility.
i am having a hard time finding it.

I’m not even going to pay any attention to all of the “patriot” “comnnunist” etc. garbage.
But this talk about the “Democratic Congress” since 2006, and blaming pretty much anything on Harry Reid or Nancy Pelosi is such easily-debunkable… bunk.
Yes, it is true that the Democrats have had a majority in the House since 2006. But for the 6 years before that, the Republicans, Bush’s party, had an absolute lock on the House. That lock was enforced by Tom “The Hammer” DeLay, whose hyper-partisan and eventually illegal tactics have left him out of office and under indictment.
The 2006 election also gave the Democrats a 1-vote majority in the Senate, and that counting Joe the Lieberman. The Republican Senate leadership has taken a very different view of the 60-vote cloture requirement, since becoming the minority party. So having a shaky 1 vote majority in the Senate has not been very useful under a Republican administration.
Can someone name pretty much anything that Pelosi or Reid have done to add to our current woes with the economy or our two wars?

Bush was the leading player of a team of players in DC, during his time in office. Luckily, we get to vote out the old team. The new team will probably also be sucked in by the hubris of power. Luckily, we should be able to vote out this team, in the future. Good luck to all who become major players- may they have good advisors and a sense of humility.

“Thank you for keeping our country SAFE for the past 7 years. God Bless you George W. Bush.”
,,,,
Did you mean:
“Thank you for ignoring the Presidential Daily Breifing of August 6, 2001, whose TITLE was “Osama bin Laden Determined to Strike Within the US,” and which went on to describe his likely targets and weapons, both with what turned out to be deadly accuracy. Your callous and flippant disregard for this and previous warnings along the same lines allowed the 9/11 tragedy to happen. That in turn allowed you to con us into attacking the unrelated nation of Iraq. And the combination of the ensuing War On Terror and Occupation of Iraq allowed you to run for re-election as a “War President, and to keep us all too afraid to consider changing parties for a few elections.”
Is that what you meant to thank George W Bush for?

The letter of thanks to Pres. Bush is awesome, I cannot fathom why society doesn’t look through history and see what builds nations and tears them apart.
Only God builds nations.
“My concern is not whether God is on our side; my greatest concern is to be on God’s side, for God is always right.”
Abraham Lincoln
What happened here, is Oprah got in a rush and didn’t wait for Gods timing as with alot of people, alot of african-americans did not vote for Obama.
America has alot of evil and garbage being practiced, and they voted in not a man, but a belief, value and moral that they believe in, if Obama would take a moment to read the Word he would realise how far his beliefs are from Gods. Until then this nation could go out like the Aztecs.

Once again,
A month before September 11, Bush was handed an intelligence briefing entitled “Osama bin Laden Determined to Strike Within the US,” that mentioned the possibility of terrorists flying hijacked airliners into US landmarks.
His response was “OK, you’ve covered your ass.”
That’s it.
Bush DID NOT protect us from 9/11.
Bush LET IT HAPPEN, and like most of his other tragic blunders, we can only guess if it was by design or due to his own stupidity.

To all who think we shouldn’t critisize a president. Mark the words of:
Theodore Roosevelt
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”

Posted by: Craig | November 8, 2008, 10:48 pm 10:48 pm

I think Bush has been demonized by much of the country. Political figures end up becoming characatures when they are just human beings. He is a good man and did his best. He was just over his head. It’s the majority of American’s fault for voting him into office. YOU (those who voted for him) are the one’s who were too stupid to see that he was not presidential material.
I do not think he deserves the horrible things said about him, although I never voted for him. The WORST president ever? Come on! Remember Nixon? Resigned in humiliation? Remember how Clinton was made a global fool of for the sex scandal? Give up the negative crap! Show some compassion! If you don’t approve of the job Bush did, then don’t vote for him. But Stop Bashing! Or do you think debasing others makes you better than them? It doesn’t!!!
All the Best to President Bush and his family. I wish you well.

There isn’t any question to me why people all over the world were rejoicing after Obama won. People HATE us. To them, we are war-mongering, superficial, materialistic, immoral, idiots, who toss our power around when we feel it’s convenient. Who is the face of this ridicule? George W. Bush. Obama is literally the antithesis of what the Bush administration has done for this country. If you believe George Bush is worthy of defense, you nee dto take off the rose colored glasses. If you could only understand…even our allies don’t agree with our policies. It’s ridiculous.

For all the people in the world who want something for nothing. You have think you have your Victory! The fundamental right of ownership and the true product of the mind: Individuality, have been greatly upset. The true greatness of the American way of life has always been and will always be measured by the individuals desire to be completely self accountble and ones fervent desire to promote these principles to his associates. To those of you looking for your hand out, desiring to be like the rest of the world (God for bid), I tip my hat to your victory. For the rest who truly desire to live by the sweat of their own brow, and maintain stewardship of that product, I moarn for yor deepend struggle to be truly free. Either canidate would have been a loss, I am sorrowful that in our day in time and apparantly as history has shown will continue to be left to choose the lesser of the two evils.

George W. Bush…WORST PRESIDENT EVER!

Posted by: Angela Kae | November 9, 2008, 5:01 am 5:01 am

I’m only 27 so I didn’t see first hand the presidencies of the past but I would say bush is the 2nd worst pres ever. Even repsected journalists who know these people first hand (Bob Woodward) has said there was never a criminal element in the White House with Bush only Nixon. I think we can all agree though that Bush was our most unintelligent presient ever. It showed in his cabinet and judge slections, VP choice, Iraq War, education policy, nothing on environmental policy at all- infact an across the board ban on science. He has been horrible. I am coming to the realization that people with extreme ideoligical beliefs shouldn’t be in office becuase those beliefs heavily influence actions and decisions.
This is the first election in my lifetime that had been won by my voting class. 18-28 year olds won this election. Not just by votes but by talking our parents, grandparents, families, friends, anyone who wold listen to vote Obama. I’m personally pround that I got my 90 year old republican grandpa to vote democrat for the first time in his life. Obama had proven that throughout his campaign(the best run campagin ever) that he is an intelligent, a serebral decision maker who understands how to prioritize and accomplish his tasks. Also, love the people mentioned for an emegrency financial committee. No doubt we’ve dug oursleves in a massive hole and there is no easy short term fix but with Obama I have hope we will be better off in 4, hopefully 8 years.
It’s time to invest in education, wind energy, natural gas, health care and infastructure or as a nation we will keep going down the same path were on.

Way to go Mark!! Totally agree with everything you said. Also, can we come up with a way to mark all the doors of the anti-war crowd here at home so that when the terrorists DO come to America, our fine men and women of the armed forces can pass by your homes and let you defend YOURSELVES!!! Maybe a big YELLOW ribbon would be appropriate.

I am so ashamed of this country and their so-called loyalty! I did not vote for Mr. Obama, but he is going to be President and I will stand by him as that is what our country is based on AND if his promises do not come about, I WILL NOT be name calling him as some so-called citizens of this country has done to President Bush. I am sickened by the lack of loyalty this country has for our government. Please remember that so far every President has had some war-time conflict in their term. I am glad that some folks have short term memories of what happened in September of 2001. I don’t and I am glad we made a stand. I am sickened by people’s nasty comments and belligerence. Please put the shoe on the other foot and think how you would want people to comment for President-Elect Obama in the future. Oh yes, and don’t forget…Mr. Obama can only do as much as the House will allow…same as it was for President Bush. We’ve had a democratic house for the last 2 years and I have only seen things get worse, but am I name-calling and asking for them to be tried as war criminals and such???? No. I can only stand by this country, for this country and with this country as that is what an American citizen loyal to his/her country should and would do.

I hate to see that Obama is buttering up to the Zionists. It was not enough that he selected Joe Biden, a notorious pro-Israeli proponent as his running mate. It is also the fact that he saw fit to name as his chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel. This man is so in love with Israel that it”s hard to believe he”s not Iraeli.

“Bush Gets Emotional Over White House Transition”
He should have felt that emotion before he sent our brave troops off to die in a war that America didn’t have to start.

Don’t be s idiot. Bush being sleep at the wheel contributed to the 9-11 terrorist attack.

“Matt S …
Must be nice to know everything and be so sure about yourselves …”
~r earle
I certainly do not know everything. In fact, we all know so little, and that’s the problem.
The Bush Administration will go down in history as one of the most secretive administrations in American history. Secret extraditions, secret energy policies, secret surveillance, secret detention centers, secret memos authorizing torture and attacks on sovereign nations.
No, I certainly do not know everything, and that is the way the Neo-Cons like Bush and Cheney want it. They seek immunity behind a veil of secrecy. No other president has asserted “Executive privilege” to hide the truth from the American people more than George W. Bush.
I would be surprised if even Barack Obama is informed of all the secret programs and policies the Bush administration has implemented. In Bush’s White House, separation of powers means nothing, and the less Americans know about what their government is actually doing, the better. Not only does that do violence to our Constitution, but it disrespects the intelligence of the American people.
