How About Never — Is Never Good For You?
When it comes to the release of her medical records, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is starting to remind me of that great 1993 New Yorker cartoon in which a man in an office talks to someone on the phone, looking at his date book, saying, "No, Thursday’s out. How about never — is never good for you?"
It was on October 22 when Palin told NBC, “My life has been an open book. And my life is an open book today, and Americans deserve to know the background, the associations, the affiliations of a vice presidential candidate. I’m willing to continue to be an open book.”
Brian Williams asked if she would release her medical records.
Said Palin: “The medical records — so be it. If that will allow some curiosity seekers, perhaps, to have, oh one more thing that they can either check the box off that they can find something to criticize, perhaps, or find something to rest them assured over, fine. I’m healthy, I’m happy, I’ve had five kids — that’s going to be in the medical records. Never been seriously ill or hurt — you’ll see that in the medical records if they’re released.”
But the next day Palin spox Maria Comella told ABC News’s Kate Snow: “When medical information related to Governor Palin’s health is ready to be released we will make that information available.”
How about never, America? Is never good for you?

UPDATE: I spoke too soon! Less than 90 minutes before Election Day, the McCain campaign released Palin’s medical records summary. Read more HERE.

Great image, Jake. Never doesn’t really work for me, though, unless we’re talking about Palin never making it to the White House.
This woman is the most opaque Veep candidate ever, all the while talking about how open she is. I’ve had enough of Cheney’s non-disclosures, and executive privilege invoked to cover up the nations’ interests.

I’m guessing they’ve decided to wait to see if she wins or not.
Women’s medical records are quite…detailed. You know, the OBGyn stuff is pretty personal.
At this point, why not wait to see if it’s even necessary before she has to put all of that out in public?

Do you actually believe she can’t get a one page bill of health from a doctor like Obama did? Why don’t you ask for his medical records?

She should. It’s actually incredibly puzzling why she hasn’t – surely there isn’t something so bad in there that the dr. would fear losing their license over leaving it out. So why hasn’t she done this? How inept IS the McCain/Palin campaign?

Kathy Corey : “Why should Sarah Palin have to provide the Obama loving MSM with private information.”
Because she said she would and by not following through with it she looks exceptionally deceptive. All it would take is a couple page summary with a Dr. putting the weight of their professional license behind it. That’s all Obama did, and I would accept the same from Palin. But releasing nothing makes her look quite untrustworthy.

I can’t believe the venom that Sarah Palin garners. Bad enough that Kos nutters question Trig’s paternity, but now there are secret abortions that she’s hiding? Based on what, praytell? Your fine sleuthing into Obama and his past? A one page letter for the guy in the one slot is A-OK, but the woman in the two slot..sorry, she gets pure hatred.
Honestly, I’ve followed this election closer than any in my lifetime and knew the political climate was fractured, but had no idea it had gotten so volatile.

That we have a potential vice president who’s never done a sunday interview show or given a press conference; who blatantly lied in her introductory speech to the American people (bridge to nowhere); and who has made serious factual errors almost every time she opens her mouth is a fact that truly terrifies me. Palin thinks she’s been wrongly hounded by the press. She’s damn lucky she got off so easy.

So Palin released a one sheet summary with test results from her doctor (who would lose their professional license and livelihood if revealed to be lying)? And Obama and Biden both agreed during a televised interview to release their records?
If that’s the case, you’re right. If neither of the above are true, the cases are not similar and you are just making up something to whine about.

For the ones saying a women’s medical records are different, give me a break. If a man’s medical records mentions a normal sized prostate, you know how the doctor figured that one out. There is nothing in a women’s medical record that is any more personal than a man’s. Also to the one saying Hillary did not release her’s, Hillary did not get the nomination, so did not have to release her records.
The main point of the problem is that Palin claims she is open and honest, but then does not release her medical records after saying they will be released. And I am sure if the McCain campaign asked for the records, it would not take over a week to get the proper forms filled out and the files copied.
(And before people claim sexism. I am a woman.)

I’m guessing she was going for the doctors summary like Obama did (he released that, plus a series of test results) – but her doctor refused to leave something out – whatever it was. Doctors can get in trouble when they violate ethics, so if there’s anything major and he/she leaves it out, they’re in trouble. I’m betting she thought her doctor would write the note she wanted him to, and found out he’d only write an accurate full summary. Wonder what secrets are hidden behind this refusal – a bit over a week ago, she was fine with releasing information – now she’s clammed up.

Sarah Palin not being transparent…not telling the truth! I’m shocked!
The Sarah who told the state legislature, “I welcome the investigation…hold me accountable” and then stone-walled the investigation?
The Sarah who said she was grateful that she’d been cleared of any ethical infractions after the investigation had determined that she’d commited ethical infractions?
The Sarah who claimed that she was against the Bridge to Nowhere (but fine with the road to the bridge to nowhere)?
The Sarah who sold the state plane on EBay and then whined whenever the State Police didn’t have a plane for her to use?
The Sarah who said she fired the cook?
The Sarah who claimed that the Wassila book banning was an “old wives tale”?
Whaddya expect? Woman seems to be a congenital liar.

John S McCain, III, went FIVE LONG YEARS without medical records. And this is how you honor that?
Palin is obviously healthy, and obviously healthy people have nothing interesting in their medical records anyway, so obviously there’s no reason to release them. She’d release them, the press would read through them, the press would decide there’s nothing important there, and you’d end up ignoring it. Palin is all a about maverickally eliminating the middle man; this is just another example. Instead, you can just ignore them without all that icky press involvement.
And, did I forget to mention that she was hand-picked after careful medical scrutiny by McCain? Who was a POW and war hero?

I don’t think anyone cares about the personal details regarding her pregnancies or other gender-specific procedures or problems (and the abortion and fake pregnancy insuations here show that some on this board don’t even need facts to go off of anyway).
But the gov’t jobs that clearly define succession do make the candidate’s health and life span expectations a legitimate discussion. Taken to the extreme (and this is only a hypothetical!), I think Americans would feel pretty misled if after electing a 72 year old man, they found out that his VP had some condition or history that made her unlikely to last the 4 years.
My point being, it’s a legitimate data point in the decision process. We are smart enough as a nation to figure out a level of disclosure that supports the question without discouraging female candidates.
The release of income taxes, on the other hand, I think is ludicrous.

The American people are being lied to AGAIN. You have got to find truth on your own. The media is hiding from us what we need to know. Here are a couple of things that Obama has said, but don’t believe it because I said it. Type this in your search engine and see for yourself: Ohio Coal Association – Obama.
Americans will not elect someone who says “Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket.” or “An auction on the cap and trade system, which means that every unit of carbon or greenhouse gases that was emitted would be charged to the polluter. That will create a market in which whatever technologies are out there that are being presented, whatever power plants that are being built that they would have to meet the rigors of that market and the ratcheted down caps that are placed, imposed every year. So if somebody wants to build a coal powered plant, they can. It’s just that it will bankrupt them because they are going to be charged a huge sum.

Oxycon: “”Never” is apparently good enough for the Obama supporters when it comes to the disappearance of his Illinois state records, his college records and his medical records, why should different standards be applied to his opponents?
We all want to be treated equal in this country, right?”
His Illinois state records, over 3000 votes, are open for anyone to peruse. So there’s a lie. John McCain has refused to make public his Academy records too, so there you are applying a different standard to Obama – not a lie, just hypocrisy. And as already noted over and over in this thread, most would be fine with Palin simply offering the same basic summary and recent test results (endorsed with the weight of her physician’s license) as Obama did.
So lets take score: One lie, one case of holding Obama to a much tougher standard than McCain, and one case of incredibly poor reading comprehension. All in one sentence.
As I believe the election is pretty much decided at this point, I really am just here for the amusement value and I have to say you didn’t fail me in that post!

I could care less about Palin’s medical records. After tomorrow, her health is no longer an issue for the lower 48 or Hawaii (the birthplace of our next president), it’s exclusively a problem for Alaskans, who as I understand are rather pissed with their fearful leader. Perhaps Ms. Palin will soon find herself out of work and on unemployment — wouldn’t that be an interesting turn of events!. VP candidate in November — on food stamps in January. Here’s the simple version – and read it all before you get pissed off. Palin probably had an abortion, and hates herself for it. That’s why she is such a serious pro-lifer now. If pro-life is your only issue, you can vote for her with the confidence that she will back your cause to the death. So, as long as Life is your cause, not Integrity, vote for her.

Forget the silly stuff!

Which is better for our economy: Obama redistributing our wealth or McCain growing more wealth?
Obama will take more money from the Americans who already pay the great majority of income taxes and “spread the wealth” to many who don’t even pay taxes to begin with in the form of a government check.
Obama thinks it is his right to redistribute wealth, but it certainly isn’t the view of the average American worker, and it is obviously wrong.
McCain thinks the way for America to prosper is to leave Americans with more of their income, allowing them to do what they do best — create the businesses, jobs, and opportunities that drive our vast economy.
Government has to be paid for, and that money comes from guys like Joe the plumber. Politicians can either bleed him dry to fund their programs, or they can encourage Americans to create more jobs and more wealth – and keep government limited and effective.
Obama does not include survivors of botched abortions in his “the least of these!”
It is your choice!
This former democrat and Hillary supporter voted for McCain/Palin 08! They are America’s only choice for authentic reform!

People like Sarah Palin are so unsuited for higher office. This is the type of candidate that Ronald Reagan brought with him to Washington with him in 1980. This type of typically Republican, completely provincial Americans have lot of good about them. In spite their goodness they also are terribly lacking. I don’t think they have the necessary skills and tools and the knowledge to manage our country at a much larger scale. George Bush is a very good example. It is this type of Republican candidate who have caused lot of chaos and responsible for America’s decline among nations of the world!

tiaa: McCain has proposed the exact same cap and trade type of scheme. About three years ago, George Voinovich (R) of Ohio said, “The McCain amendment will put coal out of business by forcing fuel switching to natural gas.” This was in reference to an amendment by McCain to institute a similar cap and trade scheme as Obama was discussing.
Republicans count on their base to be ignorant of reality.

Why should Sara Palin have to release all of her medical records when Obama did NOT release his. His are much more important. This double standard has to stop. The media just wants to embarrass her by spreading all of her personal medical records all over the press. Anything to distract from the fact that Sara Palin is the best thing to happen to the GOP in decades. People on both sides of the isle relate to her and like her and the media can’t stand it. They are scared to death of her and they are showing it.

aware2u: “Obama thinks it is his right to redistribute wealth, but it certainly isn’t the view of the average American worker, and it is obviously wrong.”
Obama is talking about returning to tax rates similar to the 90′s, when the federal budget actually had a surplus and the debt was being paid down a bit. It is only “obviously wrong” to someone with a five year old’s view of fairness and no grasp of how society functions. There is one free first world nation on Earth that does not have progressive taxation to spread the wealth (Iceland, a declared socialist country with a population similar to El Paso). That’s reality, not Republican “fairness” fantasy land.

Let’s put on our tin-foil hats for a moment, and just for argument’s sake suppose that the release of Sarah Palin’s medical records would prove that she was never pregnant earlier this year, and that baby Trig could not possibly be her child.
After all, if the loons on the far right want to continue insisting that Barack Obama was not born in Hawaii, but rather in Kenya, then we’ve every right to question the veracity of Sarah Palin’s story about her eight-hour flight from Dallas to Anchorage via Seattle last April, while supposedly in labor.
The difference here, of course, is that no less an authority than our own Republican governor, Linda Lingle, has vouched for the authenticity of Obama’s birth certificate from her own state Dept. of Health.
But I’m willing to wager decent money that neither Ms. Lingle nor anyone else could do the same for Trig Palin.

Now that her intelligence, readiness and ability to hold national office have been exposed, any details regarding her health issues would be extremely explosive and would forever disqualify her to hold any national office, nor be a banner of conservatives and fundamentalists. So as McShame would say, “my friends” you would have to wait until eternity!! Providing even a half page description of her health details would forever destroy her chances of running again.

Why can’t Palin release a similar nothing? All it takes is something similar to what Obama released and a licensed doctor signing it (putting their professional license and integrity behind the statements). A little excerpt of that “exactly nothing” below so readers can decide for themselves actually how much credibility to put in your words and opinion.
“The following is a summary of his medical records for the past 21 years.
During that period of time, Senator Obama has been in excellent health…On physical examination, his blood pressure was 90/60 and pulse 60/minute… His physical examination was completely normal.
Laboratory studies included triglycerides of 44(normal under 150), cholesterol 173 (normal under 200), HDL 68 (normal over 40), and LDL 96 (normal under 130). Chem 24, urinalysis and CBC were normal, PSA was 0.6, very good. An EKG was normal.”

Ohio Coal Association says this about Obama and his drones…
“It’s evident that this campaign has been pandering in states like Ohio, Virginia, West Virginia, Indiana and Pennsylvania to attempt to generate votes from coal supporters, while keeping his true agenda hidden from the state’s voters.
“Senator Obama has revealed himself to be nothing more than a short- sighted, inexperienced politician willing to say anything to get a vote. But today, the nation’s coal industry and those who support it have a better understanding of his true mission, to ‘bankrupt’ our industry, put tens of thousands out of work and cause unprecedented increases in electricity prices.

It is odd so much interest in medical history. Of the four running for office more questions about Obama not releasing his medical records—maybe due to heavy smoking habit or results from drug use which he admitted to. Joe Biden had several anyurisms which may attribute to his thought process resulting in multiple gaffes. Both would be very worrisome running the country. John McCain does seem to be the most honest and forthright, makes sense when he speaks and really loves America with no question. Sarah Palin seems to be in great health and vigorous in presenting facts that should concern us. Her medical records have been released I heard.

Mike Carey, president of the Ohio Coal Association (OCA), today issued the following statement in response to just-released remarks from Senator Barack Obama about the nation’s coal industry.
“Regardless of the timing or method of the release of these remarks, the message from the Democratic candidate for President could not be clearer: the Obama-Biden ticket spells disaster for America’s coal industry and the tens of thousands of Americans who work in it.
“These undisputed, audio-taped remarks, which include comments from Senator Obama like ‘I haven’t been some coal booster’ and ‘if they want to build [coal plants], they can, but it will bankrupt them’ are extraordinarily misguided.
“In addition to providing an affordable, reliable source of low-cost electricity, domestic coal holds the key to our nation’s long-term energy security – a goal that cannot be overlooked during this time of international instability and economic uncertainty.
“Few policy areas are more important to our economic future than energy issues. As voters head to the polls tomorrow, it is essential they remember that access to reliable, affordable, domestic energy supplies is essential to economic growth and stability.”

A woman who shoots animals from the air for sport is just cold blooded. Look at her with her daughters. She does not appear to be a warm loving mother. She’s too power hungry to really care about others.
Most of the time she make absolutely no sense when she talks. she’a very flippant in her answers much like a school girl. She has not matured into a responsible adult.
McCain should have chosen a better candidate, one without so much controversay instead of trying to get one over on the democrats for not picking Hillary. There were many deserving women for him to pick from that would have made his ticket strong and unbeatable but instead he pick one that would just as soon throw him under a bus.

Shirley said: Jeanie, how do you expect us to become energy smart continuing to depend on dirty coal? He was simply referring to our need to move on to cleaner fuels.

Right now, coal is essential in fueling 50% of our electric needs. Shut them down, and electric rates will skyrocket, and become scarce. Everything we buy, that’s going up, will skyrocket. Every company, or business that relies on electricity, will have massive lay offs, or shut down.
I agree we need alternatives, but shutting down an essential, that’s needed to produce electricity, is not the answer. It has to be a phasing out, as we ease into the new….and from what Obama said…he plans to use cap , and trade, to the point, he’d drive them to bankruptcy.
This is a complete turn around from what he’s told the people of coal producing states. Shutting them down will render those workers without jobs, and possibly hundreds of thousands more.
Also…it would lead to all of us not being able to afford to use electricity in our homes.
But since we’re all so selfish, I’m sure we’re all willing to make sacrifices, while Obama sits in the White HOuse, all cozy warm in the winter, and nice and cool in the summer.
Also note…think what this will do to schools. Taxes pay for that as well. Your local taxes will skyrocket to pay for electricity for public buildings.
How about Congress making a sacrifice, and cutting the budget. First to go, is their utilizing free cars, and gas courtesy of the tax payers.

I suppose some name calling of candidates will happen during an election, it seems a bit fourth grade playground, but it does happen. However, whatever someone might think of Gov. Palin, I think a line should be drawn at calling her 17 year old daughter some of the names I have seen in this posting. This child (and yes, she is still just a child) did not ask to be placed in the public eye, did not ask for her mom to run for vice president. She has, perhaps, made poor choices, but they should never have been made so public. To post such horrible names in a public forem where she could read them is just plain wrong. It doesn’t matter what you think of her behavior, she is not the one running for office. What if it were your daughter, sister, etc.
By the way, I am a STRONG Obama supporter and its still wrong.

Fact Check:
Despite the fact that both candidates support clean coal technology, the McCain campaign tried to make the case that Barack Obama wanted to take away jobs from coal country in Ohio and Pennsylvania, and both Drudge and FOX were happy to oblige.
But just three years ago on the floor of the United States Senate, John McCain’s Republican colleague George Voinovich of Ohio took to the floor to argue against a proposal by McCain to curb greenhouse gas emissions. McCain’s proposal, Voinovich said, would “put coal out of business” and cost thousands of jobs, an argument that McCain did not contest.
In fact, McCain agreed that his plan would require sacrifice, but he also argued (correctly) that in the long-run, America would be better off. In other words, he made the exact same arguments as Barack Obama

The media should hold Palin accountable…
But thats the problem, she can lie, smear, hold rallies that encourage fear, hate and division and the media never calls her on it.
She told Brian Williams of ABC she was an open book and would continue to be an open book because people deserve to know the backgrounds of all the candidates, but she hides hers and nothing is brought out into the open about it.
All her lies, her corruption and her inconsistencies are just swept under the rug by the media.
Now is your time ABC to do real journalism and call her out on this.

Palin would have no trouble getting her medical records. She gets all of her medical care in Wasilla–that’s why she insisted on flying back there to have Trig.
For everyone screaming murder about Obama “only” releasing a letter, a letter would work for me.
I had dismissed the idea that Trig is Bristol’s son, although I wondered why Palin didn’t just release his birth certificate and end the rumor.
When Palin was asked to release her records, she immediately became defensive–as if it isn’t standard practice. When she said, “I’ve had five kids — that’s going to be in the medical records,” I began to wonder. Maybe it’s just that I expect all of her statements to be lies.
Perhaps her reticence stems from something as simple as being pregnant when she married Todd. Does she think people don’t know?

She is hiding a lot. She thought she would come down to the lower 48 and just be accepted at “face value” since she has gotten away with using her face and body as her meal ticket her entire life. But it just didn’t quite work out that way and ‘if’ they should manage to win this election, she figures she can keep the rest of what we don’t know about her under wraps by using that good old stand by, “executive privilege”! Some of us are a lot more concerned about Palin’s propensities for personal vendettas in office, such as Troopergate. She continues to show her tendencies for politicizing the personal by complaining about journalists and most recently, her claim that her first amendment rights have been violated by journalists. It’s indeed frightening that a potential veep doesn’t understand something as basic as the first amendment rights and which countries the US is at war with. During her Fox interview several days ago, she talked about “shoring up the strategies that we need over in Iraq and Iran to win the wars.”

Yes, yes it is in fact. Anyone with a reading level over the 6th grade can (and should) look up Obama’s actual statement and verify you are lying. It should be noted that Obama was discussing coal and the need for clean coal power plants under a future CO2 cap and trade system, the same system as the one proposed by John McCain.
Republicans have no integrity left to sell a Big Lie at this point. Don’t you have anything, anything at all, good about the McCain/Palin ticket to promote?

“breezyday” – as a fellow Obama supporter I agree with you completely. The internet has relieved us of responsibility for our own remarks in forums like this. Would any of these posters make the same insinuations in person? I doubt it. Obama himself was the first to say Bristol is off limits and I wish folks here who support him would respect that wish.
Let’s get back to politics being about what you are for, not whom you are against.

Tom Brokaw on PBS even said he knows nothing about Obama. Who he is, or what he’s about.
Most of the press on his plane, don’t have a clue about Obama after all this time.
Who’s lying, and keeping secrets?
The Times of London were the ones who discovered the news about Obama’s aunt living in Boston. Want to know how they did it? They found the info in Obama’s books. He spoke in his own book about he had relatives living here.
So he lied the other day, when he said he didn’t know.

What’s wrong with a civilian police force? That’s what we have right now… kind of. (Although this has shifted a bit under Bush)
Are you saying you want a non-civilian police force? Like the Stasi?
That’s a bad idea… and it is unconstitutional.

The “PLO Terrorist” whose foundation received funding from McCain, and who is a respected college professor? The going away banquet that was a “closed door meeting?” You’re distorting the truth so much that I’m not quite sure we’re talking about the same thing – I’m talking about reality. What on Earth are you talking about?

Really love how the MEDIA and Obama want a citizen of the UNITED STATES to release private medical records.
But at the same time say nothing about Obama’s aunt living here illegally and collecting welfare fraudelntly.
Is this his idea of spreading our wealth.
Plus lets see the video of Obama attending a PLO Terrorist party the LA TIMES has. How about demanding that.

Instead of her medical records, she should be asked to read a national news paper??????
In her interview with Fox News’ Greta van Susteren last night, Gov. Sarah Palin appeared to claim that the U.S. needs to “win” the non-existent war with Iran:
We realize that more and more Americans are starting to see the light there and understand the contrast. And we talk a lot about, OK, we’re confident that we’re going to win on Tuesday, so from there, the first 100 days, how are we going to kick in the plan that will get this economy back on the right track and really shore up the strategies that we need over in Iraq and Iran to win these wars?
Posted by: TXGal51 | November 3, 2008, 3:47 pm 3:47 pm
Shirley…
What PLO terrorist? That was a McCain campaign hoax.
The supposed terrorist has been defended by national Republicans… and McCain even gave the guy money for his work.
So much for that smear…
But, don’t worry… you’ll probably be getting another one soon. Maybe about Obama’s “conspiracy” against coal miner’s daughters…. Or maybe the one about Obama’s conspiracy to hide his mistress in a secret bunker… Or maybe that Obama is a transdimensional being from the Planet X.
Posted by: Blip | November 3, 2008, 3:47 pm 3:47 pm
becky – you are completely right. i listened to the tapes – and i’m sorry, but i don’t think sarah palin or a lot of reporters did. obama’s comments were certainly most represented here in their entireity (sp). This i sjust one of the things Obama said that was left out:
“WHAT WE HAVE TO DO THEN IS FIGURE OUT HOW CAN WE USE COAL WITHOUT EMITTING GREENHOUSE GASES AND CARBON,”
Obama’s comments on bakruptcy referred to companies which did not go along with the Obama/McCain cap and trade plans – not the whole industry. That’s just not the truth. McCain said somehing almost identical about the automobile industry – it’s on his website – he plans to raise fines on companies who do not comply in that arena.
Coal is one of the resources that American has in huge abundance – we’re second in the world, We’ve got to find ways to both use our resource – and do it so that we can pass clean air and water – and a safe place to live along to our children. Both candidates are pledging ways to do that – in identicl terms. But we need more – we need to protect those workers from terrible working conditions – and we need to make sure those workers have health care and that their is a safety net and training. Which candidate do you think is more likely to provide that to coalworkers and their families? Not McCain. Obama is also suggesting that their is private involvement in developing new technologies – which McCain is not. And researchers are already working on bioremediation methods that work. No one is saying that coal is history that just isn’t true.
Finally, conider the source. This is a woman who has two days ago, thought she was talking to Sarkozy on the telephone and giggled and did not know the name of the leader of Canada. This is a women, who yesterday thought we were at war with both Iran and Iraq and were winning. This is simply a pathetic last-second attempt to slime Obama.
Whoever wins – I hope they are good on their promises. The people of the Ohio River Valley have been forgotten for too long – unless America needs kids to fight wars in the Middle East.

Wasn’t Michele pregnant when SHE got married?

But what I DO care about is :
WHERE ARE OBAMA’S MEDICAL RECORDS?
The REAL ones!
The ones which include ALL the blood tests and organ checks. The ones which contain more than just the signature of his M D friend.
That’s what most of us want to see.
We KNOW Sarah is healthy; she just passed her physical in April and probably has had one even since!.

You see, his book is an actual document that many people have access to. As such, it is a fact, reality – not subject to your ‘spin.’ Can you please provide the page number where he spoke about having his Aunt live here please? And when you give up looking for it, please remember to try to make up lies that are not so easily refuted in future – it’s just insulting that you think we’re stupid enough to believe your spin over our own “lying eyes.”

I don’t think it’s any of my business or your busines – or in anyway relevant to this campaign – but I don’t think this was a rape case. And I don’t think it is any of our business. And I will repeat. Anyone who is 17 and is going to marry and raise a child should not be a child. That doesn’t seem controversial to me.

Is it really amazing to imagine that both Bush and McCain had fathers who had too high expectations on them, constantly thinking they were cowards and disappointments, and that it would be causing a stress sensitivity – more likely to send other people to battle instead of doing the stressful thing of TALKING to a dictator?

I see associations only count if it’s Obama.
John McCain-led group gave Rashid Khalidi $448,873 according to a 1998 tax filing .McCain Funded Work Of Palestinian His Campaign Hopes To Tie To Obama
During the 1990s, while he served as chairman of the International Republican Institute (IRI), McCain distributed several grants to the Palestinian research center co-founded by Khalidi, including one worth half a million dollars.
A 1998 tax filing for the McCain-led group shows a $448,873 grant to Khalidi’s Center for Palestine Research and Studies for work in the West Bank. (See grant number 5180, “West Bank: CPRS” on page 14 of this PDF.)
The relationship extends back as far as 1993, when John McCain joined IRI as chairman in January. Foreign Affairs noted in September of that year that IRI had helped fund several extensive studies in Palestine run by Khalidi’s group, including over 30 public opinion polls and a study of “sociopolitical attitudes

Obama hasn’t even seen his aunt for two years… she is a distant family member to him.
You cannot blame him for her legal troubles.
But even if he did stay in contact with her… She has been trying for the last two years to get her visa renewed… She is applying for asylum for political persecution. But she has not been hiding from the law.
But whatever it takes… you gotta make stuff up about the other guy… because McCain doesn’t have an agenda worth voting for.
So just dig deep and try to conjure up as much hate as you can… and then put it into words.
See if that gets you anywhere.

Jeannie. That is not what Obama said. I have listened to the audio. It is available. Obama said the same thing John McCain said about cap and trade – and made the same argument that McCain made with automobile manufacturers. The ones who have been getting awa with too much are going to face higher regulation and fines. Listen to the transcripts. The real ones – not from the Maimer. They’ll make it clear. If what you are really worried about is the coal industry – it will put your mind at rest. If what you really want to do is slime Obama – then it really doesn’t matter.

jhw: Obama attending a going away party with an AMerican-born professor who has criticized Israeli polcies towards Palestine. DO you know a lot of Israelis? A lot of them criticise Israeli policies toward Palestine, too. Jake just posted a description of this man. It wasn’t a closed door-revolutionary meeting. It was a party. They probably had cake.
The source of the piece was not the Times reporter – it was a bottom feeder of the blogosphere who no self-respecting journalist would touch. Way below Drudge. Every major journalist know who is was – and no one quotes this source (at least publically). The source doesn’t have the tape. My guess is that there isn’t one. The LA Times is owned by a billionaire who gives millions to Israel. DO you really think he would put the state of Israel at risk if he had evidence that showed it was at risk?
This whole thing is just more baloney from Sarah Palin, who seem to be good at nothing besides spreading lies and slander. Why is everyone so interested in this dessert party? Has she had some horribly embarrassing ailment that she doesn’t want anyone to know? Is she suffering from depression or a heart condition?? What is she hiding. She’s two faced. Look, at the bare minimum she could have gone the Obama route. She is young, appears healthy, has had five children and could have issued a short summary with some basic test results. For the campaign to take this route there must be something. It may not really be much, but anything would change the story line back to poor vetting by the McCain team and since they are being roundly accused of political malpractice at this point they may just figure that its best to just play it out.

“Obama released a 276-word summary of his health signed by a doctor…fine…maybe we don’t need every drop of info…what can really be in there?…also, think about it, everyone who has ever had an embarrassing exam or a or something…I don’t see what the big deal is for any of the four running for high office.
Please afford Palin the same standard of respect for privacy.”
Because of the stance and platform Palin is running on (Pro-Life, etc) we need to know that she is just not ‘talking the talk’ but ‘walking the walk’, to be an informed voter this is very important.

Granny could have been dead since Friday but they wanted to release the news day before election. What timing that Obama campaign. Who would know if Granny was ever alive……no interviews, no waving from the balcony of her apartment….too many family mysteries with Obama.
I know who will all have the gags removed tomorrow night……Rev. Wright, Louis Farrakhan, Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton….the gags come off and “Uncle” Wright is dying to get out and sell his book. Maybe something from Ayers and Khalidi in book format too.

This woman Sarah Palin is a idiot. Almost as big an idiot as John McCain but not quite.
Holding up her medical records now speaks volumes. She’s been stalling for weeks because she knows their sorry campaign is in the tank. So why release medical records when you’re not going to win anyway?
Please Sarah, hurry up and go on back to Alaska -a place where you will appear smart, because the majority of your constituency is ignorant trailer-trash.
The best thing to come out of your failed campaign is that it is the end of John McCain’s political career. And you will go the way of Dan Quayle, out of politics forever.

And people are willing even to call this an election ploy.

When somebody dies… the newspapers publish an obituary.
If that person was recently in the news, it usually makes national news. I can see why McCain would want to sit on such a story for political purposes… but usually the passing of a loved one transcends politics.
For Obama not to acknowledge his grandmother’s death with a brief statement would be cold.
To act like it didn’t matter until Wednesday would be barbaric.
Posted by: Blip | November 3, 2008, 5:04 pm 5:04 pm

It isn’t interesting that she hasn’t released the records. Obama hasn’t released a ton of documentation.
It is interesting that Jake felt he had to write about this today. Surely being on the plane, he could have found many topics with something interesting.
But then they would kick him off the plane.
2008 – Bush put modern journalism on the ventilator. Obama pulled out the cord and filled the hoses with sawdust.
R.I.P Fourth estate.
You do understand the level of pure cynicism and mistrust of the MSM this campaign has created, right Jake? When Fox is said to be by media watchers to be fair and balanced by comparison, you know ABC, CBS, NBC and CNN have surrendered their credibility to history’s ashcan. Unbelievable.

Do you know who the real loser in all of this is going to be? Us. We have allowed the media to take sides and cover for these candidates, and we have not held them accountable for all the stuff they have kept hidden from us about the candidates, and what they actually stand for. When Americans vote for “change”, and they have done it numerous times without asking what that “change” is going to be, it
will be too late, and America is going to be weakened yet again. No matter who wins, there is going to be massive job loss in America, because our politicians don’t have the backbone to free us from foreign oil. If you think gas prices were high this summer, just wait until next summer when all this cap and trade nonsense takes effect. I just talked with a woman whose son is in the construction business in FL, and works for a huge company there. They have just layed off their whole “middle class” work force, but because her son was so good at his work, they have offered to keep him for HALF the salary he was making. This is only the beginning. Our automakers losses announced today were huge. That bailout is coming – who pays for that – you guessed it – us again. If the candidate who wants to unionize America again wins, you will see prices at non-union stores skyrocket – groceries, goods, services, etc. You may delude yourself into thinking that the middle class will be protected – think again. How can it not effect you when you pay double or triple increases on gasoline, groceries, services, etc.? This time next year, America will be reeling from the policies of CHANGE – and America will say this is not what we thought was meant by change.

Kim… You are right. It is a personal family matter. It’s up to you, who you want to vote for.
What makes me angry is how quickly people are willing to accuse Obama of causing his own grandmother to die from cancer as a political stunt.
Most McCain supporters are decent folks… but I really do wonder about the merits of a candidate when their supporters rely strictly on attacking the opponent.
Clearly something is out of whack when McCain supporters feel like it is appropriate to speculate about such a conspiracy.
It should make reasonable people doubt all of the other stuff that they say about Obama.
If they are willing to exploit this tragedy without any evidence or any decency…. what else are they willing to say to support their candidate.
All day I have been reading the most ridiculous smears about Obama… but this latest one just takes the cake. It really says it all. Spells it out in capital letters: AT THIS POINT IN THE CAMPAIGN, MANY MCCAIN SUPPORTERS ARE WILLING TO MAKE STUFF UP TO WIN.

Ashamed? You bicker like 5 yr. olds while the country’s future hangs in the balance. If it was McCain’s grandmother who had died, the same kind of comments would be coming from the other side, and if any of you have any kind of backbone, you would say, yes, you are right. America has become not the land of the free, but the land of the blind, and we are all going to be in the ditch together soon. America has not seen war in it’s streets for a long time, but that is about to change, as the division that spills from our tongues is rooted in our hearts, and will soon manifest itself in our actions.

“It is a foregone conclusion that Wyoming’s three electoral votes will go to Sen. John McCain. It would be easy for the Star-Tribune to simply agree with the majority of voters in this red state and endorse the Republican candidate for president,” the Editorial Board of Wyoming’s Casper Star-Tribune wrote Monday.
“But this isn’t an ordinary election, and Sen. Barack Obama has the potential to be an extraordinary leader at a time we desperately need one.”
The board goes on to commend Obama’s judgement, criticizing McCain’s conduct during his campaign and choice of Sarah Palin as his running mate.
“If the John McCain of 2000 saw today’s counterpart, he wouldn’t recognize himself,” the Board wrote. “McCain is no longer a GOP maverick, or the war hero whose principles were unwavering. He has flip-flopped on issues ranging from tax cuts to torture in an effort to win over the conservative base of his party. He has waged a dismal campaign based on fear and divisiveness.”

For all those who infer Obama didn’t release his records, here’s the article form MAY – clearly outside your retention abilities.
Obama releases medical information: “excellent health.”
By Lynn Sweet on May 29, 2008 10:54 AM
WASHINGTON–Likely Democratic nominee Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) is in “excellent health,” according to a summary of Obama medical records released on Thursday. The 276-word summary was written by Dr. David L. Scheiner, the Chicago doctor who has been Obama’s personal physician since March, 1987. Obama has not had a check-up in more than a year. Scheiner described Obama as “lean and muscular with no excess body fat.” Obama is still using Nicorette gum to stay off cigarettes–he has quit smoking several times, his doctor notes.
HIghlights:
*Triglycerides of 44(normal under 150), cholesterol 173 (normal under 200), HDL 68 (normal over 40), and LDL 96 (normal under 130). Chem 24, urinalysis and CBC were normal, PSA was 0.6, very good. An EKG was normal.
The Obama campaign decided to release this summary of Obama’s health status at this time to contrast with the long medical history of GOP presumptive nominee Sen. John McCain (R-Az.). The McCain campaign last week allowed a select group of reporters to study McCain’s more complex medical history, complicated because of his skin cancer and injuries suffered while serving in the military and as a prisoner of war in Viet Nam.

Why would our grandchildren give a rats ass about this election? Please, most of these kids can’t tell you who Gerald Ford or LBJ is. Every election is the biggest, most historical, etc. Actually Gore/Bush was more exciting in my book. Gore was a much better candidate than Obama. That when it was exciting for me that my party had a good candidate and you were excited about voting for them. Obama is a good speaker but weak in every other respect. I had to cross party lines and go Mccain.
Obama more than likely will be indicted at some point. I have never been wrong about that. I was correct when I said that about Nixon, and I was correct when I said it about Clinton. I can smell a crappy president a mile away.
I begged people not to vote for Bush. He has turned out to be the worst. Now I am telling you Obama, will be a terrible president. If he wins. He will be a 1 term president and expect a scandal within year 3.

len, of course not.
But I do wonder why Republicans would hire the folks who made “the Clinton Chronicles” to create anti-Obama propaganda.
It’s one thing when some whacko on a blog cooks up a theory about a candidate.
It’s another thing entirely when those people are paid large sums of money to produce such conspiracy theories professionally.
And, I might be wrong, but I think that Republicans have spent enough money on opposition research, robocall firms, and sketchy smear merchants to say that maybe there is something deeper than just the freak sparks of irrationality that occasionally pop up when we talk politics.
Maybe there is something deeply rooted in a campaign which pushes smears that leads their followers to embrace almost any theory as long as it says something despicable and dehumanizing about Democrats.
I sure don’t think that rank and file Republicans are that corrupt. Maybe it’s naive of me to want to blame someone for this kind of embarassing behavior… But I don’t think Republicans are bad people…
I think they are being manipulated by individuals desperate to hang on to political power.

People said that Bill Clinton was going to destroy America, too. That he was a drug trafficker working for the illuminati. And they accused him of murder.
The same people make up the Obama smears.
America is going to be fine. In fact, it is going to be better than it has been in a long time.

Also I am not right wing. Maybe that is why the polls are showing that independent voters are breaking for McCain. To Obama supporters you are either for or against him. Left or right. This is why Obama can’t break above 54% in some polls and in others he can’t make it above 50%.
Soon as I said that I have issues with some of Obama’s policies. Obama supporters never bothered to discuss it. They immediately wrote me off as right wing even though I have voted democrat my entire life. So I voting Mccain.

Your mean spiritedness, paranoia have robbed some of you of your humanity. I can’t believe that some of you are peddling conspiracy theories about Mrs. Dunham’s death. You should be ashamed of yourselves.
My prayers are with the Obama family. I wish that Mrs. Dunham had been able to live to see her Grandson elected.

Sarah Palin should post her medical records.
She doesn’t need to show everything. But the American public deserves to have minimal information about her health history.
Her silence is proof she has something to hide.
Her handlers have calculated that publishing them would hurt more than resisting the requests.

Good gracious – do any of you have an independent bone in your bodies? I guess when you just repeat mindless twattle, that you assume everyone else is doing the same. It doesn’t matter who jwench is purporting to be, what matters is that we seek the truth. The truth is hard times are coming to America, and everyone really does know it, but they are deluding themselves into believing that it’s going to change with the election because of the hatred that permeates their hearts.

I just read the following quote from a McCain supporter on this blog, shortly after the news of Obama’s grandmother’s death became public:
“Granny could have been dead since Friday but they wanted to release the news day before election. What timing that Obama campaign. Who would know if Granny was ever alive……no interviews, no waving from the balcony of her apartment….”
Wow. That is a new low even among these rabid McCain-Palin supporters. Despicable. Vile. Un-Christian. And totally, totally sad.

“I think they are being manipulated by individuals desperate to hang on to political power.”
And that is true of both sides of this election. That is true of politics. It is worse this time because of the significant changes of kind and type of media enabling levels of unprecedented participation.
@kim: Because it is true that having an African-American represent a major party is historic regardless of the outcome. Because this election has many significant structural changes particularly fund raising and use of alternative media. Talk radio begat that trend, but now it is the web. Because the voter turnout is likely to be higher than we have ever seen and there are several looming scandals over this that will penetrate deep both into the campaigns and into the Washington machinery. That iceberg is barely understood at this time. My informed guess is this will uncover a lot of tendrils and some will be very hard to accept.
Also because the emotions in this campaign fed by the rage machine created with feedback on the Internet and the surrender of the MSM to the Obama campaign are the worst I’ve experienced since the 1960s.
But as to indictments, my sense is that you are right or we are headed for a Constitutional crisis. Given the irrationality of some of the supporters, that can turn very ugly.
Since you remember those elections, you know what it means for America to set her cities on fire. It’s been my worry for over a year now, and I don’t know if we will back away from this.
America has whipped up a lot of anger and it has to go somewhere because like other addictions, there is a transference. The Civil Rights movement begat… and so on. What we do this time is anyone’s guess.
This one is a bad stew. If we overcome it, we are stronger. If not, we will weaken unacceptably at the very time we need strength and resolve.

Today, during a stump, Palin referred to Obama as thinking terrorists are the good guys. I’m wondering if she’s acting independently or if she’s reading the teleprompter from the McCain camp. I’ve read some confusion about Obama’s stands with the coal industry. Seems like Palin let loose the monkeys yesterday in Ohio with some accusations that Obama not coal friendly. Some of us aren’t happy that he actually is. But anyway, I’m cautiously optimistic that she won’t be needing to release her medical records and that she can soon go back to shooting wolves in Alaska soon.

Sarah Palin’s medical records are nobody’s business, and the Democrats yammering for them while winking and nudging about how there might be something salacious in them are as tacky as the Republicans who hounded Clinton about his personal life or the Bush/Rove supporters who accused McCain of having an illegitimate black baby in 2000.
I’m not voting for McCain, but if I were, I’d want to know his doctors aren’t expecting him to die suddenly or go senile while he’s in office – but if something bad happens to a Vice President, replacing them isn’t a crisis. Her personal life is her own personal business.
There’s so much legitimate stuff to harass Palin about – her lack of foreign policy clues, Troopergate, her financial irresponsibility as mayor and later Governor, her willingness to parrot Bush’s and McCain’s policies and inability to tell when they’re true. Leave her health alone. (Unless her eye doctor says her vision really *is* good enough to see Russia from her front porch, of course….)

I am flabbergasted at the amount of money Obamanauts poured into B O’s hands
at a time when thousands… maybe millions of people were on the brink of losing their homes…. and their jobs….
I am flabbergasted that Obama did not see fit to return some of this money to his supporters….. or to charities like food pantries (which are mostly empty)…
Instead, he chose to show off his big ears and enormous ego in the largest arena he could find…..
Well it was YOUR money….. but if this is an example of his compassion for this country and a prophecy of his brand of leadership for our nation……. I find it sorely lacking.
What we do NOT need at this time…. is a spendthrift at our helm.
We can’t afford it!

Well. I suspect that Palin does have something to hide.
However, after going through a few posts on other sites, I suspect it is something of a very private, family nature which has no bearing on her ability (or lack thereof) to serve as VP.
So I’ll stop being hypocritical and let her slide on this one.
I always believed that the whole Clinton-what’s-her-name scandal should never have been made public. He should have just refused to enter into any discussion on his private life.
So, I’ll cut Sarah Palin some slack here, even though I admit a desire for revenge against the GOP.

McCain’s Quarterly Cancer Screening Results Overdue!
Back in August, I noted that McCain reported the results of his quarterly skin cancer screening from late July. No such report has come out for this quarter, so either: McCain is putting the country at risk by not getting screened, or he has been screened and is putting the country at risk by not releasing the results as they indicate a problem.
In either case, and in combination with Palin failing to produce to her medical records as promised, it’s clear the GOP ticket is putting their own political campaign ahead of the good of the country.

McCain is not very old, but yeah, he lost me at Palin.
As all things, so much of any race is about timing. Perhaps Palin would come across differently in four years after she has done the homework necessary to understand the significant national and international that any voter (okay, maybe now that gets amended to most) would insist a candidate understand.
Still, a certain predilection for half truths or worse – clear even that she kept certain things from the McCain campaign until they had no choice but to proceed and prevaricate.
Ultimately, that sits on McCain and the unraveling of what once earned my respect as well as many others. I liked 2000 McMaverick. 2008 McAin’t, not even not so much: not at all!

What I find sad (pathetic) is that the press gives more effort to The One’s grandmother passing away and Sarah Palin’s medical record than The One’s view on energy, particularly his “cap and trade policy” that will “bankrupt” utilities who invest in coal plants and that “electricity prices will necessarily rise” due to penalties an Obama administraion would impose. Let’s just put aside the fact that the coal provides close to 50% of our electricity and thousands of jobs. Coal is our most available energy resource (the U.S. is the “Saudi Arabia” of coal).
The One giveth (tax credits) and takes away (higher electricity prices). Isn’t a tenet of Marxism controlling means of production? Isn’t this what would happen in an administration presided by The One?
I checked AP, Reuters, CNN and did not find a single headline related to The One’s views on coal and energy. Plenty of headlines (and charming photos of a young Barry!) of The One’s grandmother’s passing though.
The “main stream” media (aka “The Fourth Ward”) is irresponsible, spineless, and has lost ALL credibility. I won’t even tune in to give any of them (CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NBC, AP, Reuters, etc.) the benefit of a weather report. The whole lot resembles state run media found in any Banana Republic…

His grandmother who raised him passed aaway. IF it had been a family member of McCain’s they would have done the same thing.
ABC has covered the coal thing as well.
It’s really not the big of a deal because Obama and McCain basically have the same stance, if you don’t take what Obama said out of context or just use a snippet of what he says like Fox does.
Posted by: Jwench | November 3, 2008, 7:40 pm 7:40 pm
funny how some still defend the 5% that have 85% of the money in our country—-as for palins records–better we know if she should become pres—-it may be a little embarassing–or very dangerous—-however obama will take care of this problemm—tomorrow–make sure you vote
Posted by: rodney | November 3, 2008, 7:42 pm 7:42 pm
tjp8, problem is that the coal thing is an imaginary issue, just another attempt by a man I once respected and planned to vote for to use a non-existent policy difference as a wedge issue.
The only way you get to the “attempted bankruptcy” quote is if you strip it completely of context. Why? Because save a couple of free pollution credits, there is no real difference between the stances of each candidate. Sean Hannity can pat himself on the back for his cynical “cunning” but all he’s done is cut until he got his preferred meaning.
What’s truly sad is that there was no serious discussion of what must happen to ween our addiction to the oil produced by terrorists and maintain an environment that even us conservatives cannot deny is imperiled.

Hey, some good news, the 2nd troopergate report was just released. Big surprise, it found that Palin had not ethics violations.

Jwench – You really believe McCain and The One have the same position on coal? You need to diversify the sources from which you receive your news…
BTW, while I’m going to miss the coverage the Dallas Morning News, NY Post, and Washington Times since they’ve been booted from Obama One (these papers should’ve known better than to endorse – gasp – Johnny Mac), I’m very confident that their replacements (Essence and Jet in particular) will provide the same in-depth and balanced covered provided by the aforementioned dailies.
Jake – Given you are on the plane with The One, I would expect that you have already covered this…but as stated previously, I’ve lost all need for the MSM – This blog is the only exception that I check on an infrequent basis.

Look up their actual stances. They are virtually the same. Quit listening to FOx and the band of smear bandits and fid out the information on your own.
They provide snippets of what he says and not the entire quote. Most of the right wing sites take his remarks out of context, which I find pathetic.
By calling him the “One”, and using “Essence and Jet in particular” your words, not mine you show the real reason you won’t vote for him. Get over you narrow mindedness.
I am not going to argue with somebody who would never think of voting him for obvious reasons.

During his election campaign and throughout his eight years in the White House, Bill Clinton never once released his medical records. And, how many of you reading this even know that fact? And, here again, when it comes to Sarah Palin, her wardrobe, her children, her husband, and now her medical history are used as weapons by our pathetically biased mainstream media not to challenge any of her positions, but rather to attack and slander her personally.
When the history of this election is written, one of the signal features of it will be the sad and pitiful death of the American media.

thanks abc for the opportunity to discuss our candidates—sometimes a little heated ,and sometimes with a dose of humor —but by in large it has been enlightining.

obama –biden is my choice as 8 years have been enough.

“you mentioned the 1960s that was when the white sheet freaks were blowing up churches—the most shamefull part of our history-”
And your point is? No one here is defending that.
I don’t think it is the most shameful part. The shameful part was when the Constitutional convention refused to outlaw slavery.
The church bombings were despicable. Then there was Bill Ayers blowing up police stations and killing innocent Americans. The most shameful part is Bill Ayers is now a teacher in chicago ‘free as a bird’ whereas the bombers of the 16th street church were brought to justice. When Ayers is brought to justice, then talk about white sheets might have more meaning.
One law, Rodney, blind to persons and political persuasion, that is the ideal of the framers of the Constitution.

ayres did not actually do any of these things himself—i was around then and the nam war was a massive pustile eating at the country usa..as for your defending the bombings or trying to justify it with ayres– is far beyond the scope of disgusting—–and trying to pass obama off as ayres is beyond my belief— iam fully aware of mccain and his escapades when in the military-first hand—–so dont bother to attack me for the truth –vote for mccain tomorrow as i know you will —simply let it end at that.

Jake, I will accept your obsession with obtaining Palin’s medical records when you start demanding Obama release his as well. AFter all, he’s been running a lot longer. Oh, wait, it’s too late now, isn’t it? The man has a history of cancer in his family and has smoked. And yet you only seem to care about Palin’s records. Why is that?

she was Never guilty!
It was a trumped up charge by a pumped up candidate…. namely the one who hsa come to be known as ” B O”.
And now that the campaigns are coming to an end, in his magnanimous-ness he has permitted Palin’s name to be cleared of this garbage.
The thingabout B O is…. the charges against him are STILL pending!
BE CAREFUL WHO YOU VOTE FOR; BE VERY VERY CAREFUL.
McCain and Palin:
COUNTRY BEFORE GLITZ!

One set of laws, Rodney, just as Barack Obama said today in reference to his aunt. If you have a problem with the Constitution, take it up with your representative or Senator.
No one is defending the 60s bombers of any political persuasion here except you. Bill Ayers is precisely the same as the men who blew up the churches. Precisely. The only difference is he is walking free.
I will vote proudly tomorrow. It’s a great country with a great future if that is what we work toward. As for who wins, may having be as good as wanting.

Sen. Obama has never actually released his birth certificate and other important records, and Sen. Dodd hasn’t released documents related to his loans from Countrywide, as he promised and has been criticized for not doing (“If Not Now, When? (Hartford Courant), and “Senator Dodd’s Notion of Courtesy,” (NY Times), and “Dodd and Frank, step down,” (Providence Journal).

Aussie, you wrote:
“McCain lost this election when he put his campaign on hold and when he picked the most unintelligent candidate for a running mate!”
Even if the campaign had flawlessly brought out Palin, which it didn’t, the media was so biased against her, McCain, and Republicans that it would have been an uphill battle just to get a fair shake from them. Even now, the media is doing as much as it can to suggest that this is over so some conservatives might not vote. For example, this evening Cynthia McFadden, I believe, reports on McCain and suggests, completely subjectively, that it seems maybe at his rally that he’s saying goodbye. Things like that are not fair to McCain, Palin, Republicans, all Americans, and America itself. I highly doubt she would have ever said that about any Democrat, no matter how far behind he was. She’d be thinking that even though the contest seemed lost, she’d never want to lose even one vote for the Democrat on a comment like that.
As a cartoon that appeared in my local paper put it, Obama has had a pit bull too, the media, and it ate McCain’s. Everything Palin has said and done has been distorted. The interview she did with Charlie Gibson is one example. It misquoted words she said on praying about the Iraq War (taking the “pray that” out of her words, completely changing their meaning) and distorted that “from Alaska you can see Russia” remark. Check out the transcript, titled: “EXCERPTS: Charlie Gibson Interviews Sarah Palin.” The rest of the media was only too happy to pick up and spread the inaccuracies. And things like the “kill him” accusations weren’t true. One person yelled it about William Ayers, not Obama – as the reporter who first mentioned it agreed (“Milbank: Secret Service hasn’t called UPDATE,” Politico) – and in the only other reported case, the Secret Service said it didn’t happen (“Secret Service says ‘Kill him’ allegation unfounded,” Wilkes-Barre Times Leader). But just today I saw an article on a liberal site make that claim once again.
If people questioned every basic fact that the media has reported to them on the election, the last couple of months especially, and checked them out for themselves, they’d find out quite easily how that reporting has lacked honesty. It has distorted, suppressed, failed to investigate, and selected what to report, all according to what will serve Sen. Obama’s and the Democrats interests. You mentioned McCain putting a hold on his campaign. The only people who were opposed to him doing that and vehemently spoke out against him returning to Washington (because they knew it would look presidential) were the Democratic leaders, and the media passionately echoed them. The Democrats said keep politics out of this, we have to repair what 8 years of Bush and decades of Reagan Republican policies have done. The Democrats said it was a stunt, and sticking to the facts and leaving the opinions to the editorial page, the “objective” media said referred to it as a stunt too and they all ripped him apart for it. But what did the public think? The polls were never mentioned. This story from the Kansas City Star, “McCain has stunning comeback in Thursday’s Gallup Poll,” reports that his decision brought him up 3 points into a 46-46 tie with Obama. Selectively reporting polls and referring to them less when Obama has been doing as well and trumpeting them when he is, especially those most favorable to him, have been the norm.

mccain lost because of the financial crisis and his actions. a true maverick would , like most of america, been against it. the bailout would’ve still happened, but this was his chance to win and he blew it. as for palin, well, america hasn’t heard the last of her.anyone that the media hates that much has a good future.

I’m afraid you’re wrong. Had McCain’s mother or grandmother died, the reaction from the “other side” would not have been the same as the hateful, paranoid drool that I see in this thread.
Most real Americans have managed to retain a sense of decency and are sick to death of the culture wars and the dehumanization of other Americans that they’ve generated.
“America has not seen war in our streets for a long time…but that’s about to change.” Are you actually advocating violence if things don’t go your way?
This is America, not some banana republic. We transfer power peacefully every four year. I’m not a big fan of Bush’s “intelligence” programs but for the safety and well-being of real Americans, I hope they’re keeping track of you and your ilk.

Actually, yes it would be. The statistics on that are quite clear.
It isn’t right, but people can be very mean when made angry for a long period of time. It’s time to get over it.

pough: You don’t need to know any of Palin’s personal business. Do you show your medical records to the public. Everyone knows about McCain being in the war. But Palin was smart she waited until it was over and didn’t show them. It was stated she is in excellent health. Everyone was talking about McCain dying, didn’t Rustert drop dead on the floor of Meet the Press at the age of 53?
