Obama Campaign Responds to Palin Prank Call
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Asked by ABC News if he’d heard the prank call played on Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, Robert Gibbs, a senior adviser to Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., told reporters that he’d heard parts of it.
His response?
"I’m glad we check out our calls before we hand the phone to Barack Obama," Gibbs said.

I used to support Sen. Obama, but the Obama campaign continues to waste our time on non-issues and fake-controversies generated by their campaign with the cooperation of their pet mainstream-media. They said Gov. Palin was stoking hate in the crowds as if it was fact when in fact, after SS investigation, the “kill him” allegation was a fabrication, generated by the mainstream-media and the Obama campaign. They said in a single voice Gov. Palin was stupid and corrupt, and they “validated” that by citing reputable conservatives making that argument, except they take their quotes out of context, when one said “the mainstream media makes her out to be stupid and corrupt.” They said, in a single voice, that Sarah Palin’s wardrobe is too expensive, when it is revealed, all politicians do that so they have something expensive and high-profile to auction off for top dollar to charities. They know that, they just rather generate false controversies and run out the clock nursing their lead than to talk about the real issues: i.e. Sen. Obama criticizing our Constitution because it is restrictive in nauture and didn’t mandate distribution of weath (quote). Sen. Obama saying the Warren court wasn’t radical enough for him. Him toasting Rashid Khalidi, yes, the Palestinian terrorist. His accepting tens of millions of dollars in campaign contributions from the likes of Hamas, posing as small donors under $200, of course. What deal have you struck with Hamas already, Sen. Obama? they rather make stuff up about Sen. McCain and Gov. Palin than to address the real issues of our day.

Hey Julie,
While you’ve been sitting around, obviously making a great success of yourself, Palin worked her way to the top. She didn’t ride the coattails of a husband or rich uncle. She made schools better with the PTA, then was elected to be a mayor, then elected governor. She has the highest approval rating of any governor.
If you think that is the work of a dummy, I wonder how you stack up?
Either you are threatened or you are jealous, because Palin is exceptionally bright, talented, and accomplished.
Posted by: jrock5 | November 1, 2008, 10:10 pm 10:10 pm
How does Sen. Obama figure that he’s a uniter. He told a bunch of San Francisco billionaires that they should pity small-town Pennsylvanians because they are bitter, and their Second Amendment and faith are but explanations to their frustrations. Has he ever even talked to a small-town Pennsylvanian before? it must have gone something like the Joe-the-Plumber convesersation: I like you if you sit pretty and submissive and be a photo-op prop, but if you ask me a tough question, I’m gonna tar and feather you, and marginalize and ridicule you… hehehe (shakes head: in ebonics), “what kind of plumber makes over $250,000 per year?” or Sen. Biden, “it’s patriotic to pay more taxes.” I think tax-and-spend politics is ruininous for our country. I don’t contend that Sen. Biden loves our country and thinks tax-and-spend policies are good for our country, I don’t question his patriotism for believing that, I would appreciate it if he wouldn’t question my patriotism for believing that lower taxes and smaller government is good for our country. Sen. McCain and Gov. Palin used the most proper, straight-forward, matter-of-fact term they could use to describe the Obama plan: socialism. They didn’t call them Nazis (National SOCIALIST Party), they didn’t call them Communists, they even made the distinction that it’s democratic Western European socialism, a la France, that they want to imitate. They never questioned Sen. Biden’s patriotism, they simply disagree with him on his contention that socialism is best for our country. and just a few days ago, Sen. Obama said that people who wanted lower taxes were just selfish. well, I want lower taxes, not just for me, but for my employer, too, so he can give me more pay and pay Uncle Sam less taxes. I want lower taxes on Wal-Mart, too, because I don’t want them to have to charge me more so they have something to give to Uncle Sam. AND I think that would be better for our country. I don’t call Sen. Obama’s supporters in the lower 40% tax bracket “selfish” for wanting me, a tax-payer, to fund them a welfare check. I don’t find Sen. Obama “transendent” or a “unifier” when he stands behind that homemade Seal of the “President” of the United States of American and say, “If you don’t agree with my tax-and-spend policies, you’re unpatriotic,” or “If think lower taxes and smaller government is good for our country, you’re selfish.” He doesn’t even spend the time to consider, why do so many Americans believe in lower taxes; why do so many Americans value their Constitutional Second-Amendmenet right, and their fairth. He doesn’t, not for one second, think those are legitimate beliefs, and he looks for ways to explain them, perhaps it’s bitterness, and perhaps it’s selfishness, but to Sen. Obama, it’s deserving of Comedy Central-esque ridicule.

The call is hilarious and incredible, but it shows a very serious lack of understanding, presence of mind, world knowledge and international experience on Palin’s side.
The simple fact that she actually would think that REAL Sarkozy would talk such BS to her, after calling her out of the blue, is not only too silly for words but quite alarming as well.
This woman can be fooled by anyone who she considers to be powerful and who is flattering her. We can’t have such naivete and easy vulnerability in our highest office.

Today I heard Sarah Palin say that Democrats cannot protect America. This has been true in the past. We were not able to protect America from George Bush. We were not able to protect America from economic implosion. Nor were the Republicans. We will protect America from Sarah Palin, though, and in that spirit we are united. She is indeed from the lunatic fringe and should never hold an office. Shame on Alaska for voting this fruit basket into office. And you know what, I was OK with Sarah Palin right up until the moment she made that particular comment. Shame, shame on Sarah Palin.

This prank is a lethal shot. Palin’s political life is finished before her body hit the ground.
John McCain is not country-first. He is winning –lection-first. His poor judgment, blinded by personal ambition, and irresponsible choice have not only done him in, but also ruined Sarah, a gullible small town girl who would have been a happy good wife, mother, sister, daughter, friend. Her temperament is like Princess Diana’s, with gripping charm, but she is never meant to be profound.
I hope she rest in peace.

I thought the most telling part of the call was at the end when Palin was dumbfounded as to how to handle the situation when they revealed it was a prank call. It re-enforces the credence of her shallow capacity to handle highly serious national matters. If there was ever a ditz running for national office she’d easily finish first.

This is really unbelievable! Unfortunately, she is in way over her head, and shame on the McCain camp for not vetting her properly. Shame on the McCain camp for throwing her to the wolves (the ones she didn’t shoot). Shame on the McCain camp for allowing her to make comments like “pro-America,” so that we’re all left to guess whether we live in a “pro-” or “not-so-pro” part of our own nation.
Shame on the McCain camp for not simply screening their calls.
And, I challenge all of you who think that this “Obama aunt” thing is a real issue to do a fact check of your own. How many of you can locate every single one of your relatives (especially those from the side of your estranged father)? People who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.

The only thing this says is how embarassingly poor Palin’s security is. It’s up to her aides to screen the calls. If they said it was a legitimate call from the French President, Palin has to trust them. Even if she did question why Sarkozy would be calling her, what’s she gonna do? Hang up and risk insulting the President of an allied country? And if she did notice inconsistencies, she isn’t likely to contradict Sarkozy and risk hurting relations with him. You have to keep in mind, Palin is not at fault, her aide that told her it was Sarkozy without checking it is.

Its hard to find a more revered and loved American than Andy Griffith. When I think of a true American I think of him. Andy Griffith stands for truth and wisdom, and has been considered a faithful veteran, and someone who would never support communism. Andy grew up when the world was under attack by nationalism, and then he was a part of our national fight against communism. Often during his show, The Andy Griffith Show he would teach us lessons on right and wrong, and what the true American way is. His son in the show, famed director Ron Howard is also considered an American icon, and someone you can trust to do the right thing for America. Ron and Andy have put their support behind Barack Obama for President, because they believe he represents the BEST for America. They would NEVER support someone who didnt love this country as much as they do, nor would they support someone who was a threat to us all. Lets all be like Andy Griffith and vote for Barack Obama! Lets make America the America that Andy Griffith believes in! Obama/Biden, as American as apple pie!

This is yet another wake-up call for those voter’s who are thinking about casting a vote for McCain. I wonder if America may end up seeing a landslide larger than the polls are hinting at. Republican’s may be telling pollsters they support McCain, but ultimately I think the Palin factor may well end up suppressing the GOP turnout or they will vote for Obama in the booth thereby causing a larger than expected landslide. The heavy early voter turnout may also be an indication that voter’s have seen and heard enough of Palin’ antics that they have made up their minds early and they are simply going to the polls early to get it over with. Something along the lines of what I think of being the Palin ‘fright factor’.

She is clearly out of touch with any reality except her own ego mania. Just another example of Palin’s total ignorance and intellectual incuriosity about anything beyond the borders of her beloved Alaska.
Other examples?
How about not being able to answer simple questions in an interview, such as which newspapers she regularly reads to find out what’s happening in the world.
Or 5 colleges in 6 years to get a Journalism/Communications degree–not exactly a high-brow major.
Or not knowing that fruit fly research is not about fruit flies, but is a fundamental model for studying human genetics.
Or not realizing that the VP is NOT in charge of the U.S. Senate, apparently not understanding what the term “presides” means in this context.
Or having no clue about the nature of the “Bush Doctrine”.
Or not even knowing that you cannot see mainland Russia from mainland Alaska, let alone her back yard.
Shall I continue?

So what’s worse Obamacrat? Being at a dinner with Khalidi or funneling him money like McCain did? Facts get in the way sometimes don’t they.
BTW, I’ve always wondered why people calling themselves “True American” or “Patriot” are the least respectful and most likely to attack American virtues (e.g. the constitution, one’s Christian faith). Thou doth protest too much.
I’m looking forward to next January. With McCain’s loss, I’ll have a president with the decorum and respect for others that serves as a GOOD example for kids, unlike whatever the heck this McCain/Palin mess has been.

That is one main reason Wendy Button quit Obama and is voting Mccain/ Palin
Wendy Button
“When someone takes on a corrupt political machine and a sitting governor, that is not done by someone with a low I.Q. or a moral core made of tissue paper. When someone fights her way to get scholarships and work her way through college even in a jagged line, that shows determination and humility you can’t learn from reading Reinhold Niebuhr. When a mother brings her son with special needs onto the national stage with love, honesty, and pride, that gives hope to families like mine as my older brother lives with a mental disability. And when someone can sit on a stage during the Sarah Palin rap on Saturday Night Live, put her hands in the air and watch someone in a moose costume get shot—that’s a sign of both humor and humanity.”

Say it with me now…President Obama…not so hard now, is it? Look guys, with President Obama we will be getting an intelligent leader with the wisdom to make the correct decisions.
We tried dumb and incompetent for 8 years now…hasn’t worked out so well for America has it? The really scary thought is that the mental midgets who voted Bush into office are willing to do the same for McCain!!Thats all this country needs right now…confused and incompetent. The guy might have been okay back in 2000 when he was 64 yrs old. lito–there is nothing wrong with having a black president and would be really cool to see a black man in office.
But not Obama, his positions and questionable associations with terrorists and criminals and his black liberation theology church for 20 yrs, etc…… is not what this country needs right now or ever.
I live in a very nice neighborhood, and all my African American neighbors have McCain/Palin signs in their yard. They are Christians and do not believe that Obama is. They are scared of an Obama presidency and while they really want to see a black president in their life time, they do not want Obama.
The first black president will be a Republican.

I cannot imagine the ignorance that has gone into some of these comments. It is sickening to think that such an important aspect of American life (democracy) is causing some people to act like illiterate twits. Come on now. Palin is a ditz, we get it. McCain is old, gotcha. How about doing some real campaigning for Obama, rather than smearing his opponents in here? We Democrats should know better than to lower ourselves to the level of the McShame campaign.

It wasn’t Sarah Palin’s fault! Blame McCain for picking her and destroying her (and her family). Imagine how her family will feel when the story of the prank call reaches them. Yes, Sarah is not ready to be the VP or the President but she only should be held responsible partly for it (she shouldn’t have taken up the offer from McCain) but it’s McCain who screws up. McCain has to lose BIG – to do justice to Sarah Palin. Come to think of it, what President in the world would call a female US Presidential candidate out of nowhere to talk about killing animals, “hot in bed” etc.?

I believe in the Constitution, something Obama does not and wants to change it (also caught on tape), I would never sit in a church for one day much less 20 yrs listening to someone GD America and making racist comments. I would never be friends with someone who was responsible for blowing up the pentagon and killing a police officer and bombing a supreme court judges home with his family inside.

I just wanted to say that the ignorance displayed by people on the internet is amazing. It seems hard to find a republican with an ounce of intelligence. Knowledge is completely lacking. And then everyone else starts using terminology that they do not understand. “Socialist”, “Communist”, “Capitalist”. These are economic classifications primarily based on ownership of the means of production. No country in Europe, or the world for that matter, is socialist. Sometimes countries nationalize activities that do not run efficiently or ethically under capitalism, but this is not socialism. A factory taken over by its workers and run for the benefits of its workers is an example of socialism. The roads in America are mostly owned by the states and shared by us all. Are we socialists when we are driving? Learn to think, read some economics and history rather than showing your ignorance. I doubt most republicans will ever get it because to the extent they are like Palin they have no intention of trying to understand anything other than figuring how they can screw the system. So PLEASE before you reply with cathartic emails, learn something of economics and politics.

that makes two. just when we think we have heard or seen it all she ends up out doing her self over and over again. there is no end to it. in the beginning it was funny, but given the number of instances it has happened it has turned into something that is collectively disturbing, quiet sad and disbelieving. i do not get into drama, but this military officer is unafraid to say that i am deeply frightened for this nation given her prospects of being elected. if McCain was honorable, he would either withdrawal from the race or instantly replace her. this is terrifying stuff; people had better wake up!

I keep hearing about the $250,000 magic number here. Most of you do not understand that the business owners, especially small business, will be hurting under Obama’s plan.
Higher taxes means, higher consumer costs, less benefits and lower wages for employees. And if Obama some how manages to pass his socialist medicine plan, he will force small businesses to pay into it, further hurting employees. It is the lower wage earners who will be hurting.
How do you know it’s $250,000? By reading his bogus website? He probably doesn’t know what it says because he’s going around saying it’s $250,000, then $200,000, then Biden says it’s $150,000, now Richardson is saying $120,000.
Obama’s history in the Senate has always been to RAISE taxes, not cut them.

Obama is a True Socialist leader, but I would never give him the distinction of being a “True American”.
The fact is, if Bush had not gone into Iraq and stupid people hadn’t voted Pelosi, Reid, Dodd, Franks, Obama into the senate our economy would be doing great and McCain would be waaaay ahead in the polls.
America tends to lean to the right. That is why Republicans have won 7 out of the last 10 elections and why Bush, who has never been a good speaker still won over a sitting VP, Gore and John Kerry.
Obama wants to be Jimmy Carter’s 2nd term. The economy under him was so bad, it makes the current economy look great and Obama is following his exact policies.
Bill Clinton ignored the terror attacks that led up to 9/11 and didn’t think Al Qaeda was a threat, just as Obama thinks Iran is a tiny country that is not a threat to the US.
“Spreading the Wealth” is not an American thing and people are very resisitent to it.

Sarah Palin wants to create more gov’t programs for special needs children – it’s all she’s been talking about lately. Gov’t programs paid with my taxes are socialist. Why should my taxes have to pay for her down syndrome baby?
She should use birth control as it is dangerous to have kids after 40 years of age. How irresponsible of her. She wants me to have to pay for all her kids to go to public school and now she wants me to pay for her down syndrome baby.
What a socialist. She should stop looking at Russia from her house and just go ahead and move there.

To you bunch of morons who love Joe the Plumber, had you LISTENED to what Obama said to him – and not McCain’s version of it – he said it was so that people could have jobs and money to spend at Joe’s business. But keep listening to the people who are lying to you.
More jobs overseas (like McCain sending a big airplane contract to Airbus in France) means less jobs here.
Spreading the wealth, you bunch of morons, is making sure YOU have a job so that YOU can spend money which then boosts the economy.
Honestly, get a clue.

Joe THE Plumber should be a poster child for a Democrat. But the democrats tore him up and investigated everything about him to discredit him becuase he dared to ask Obama a simple question that exposed Obama for the simple fact that he want to use your money to spread the wealth
I have one thing to say to you Obama. Use your money first.

CBS poll today: Obama had a 13 point advantage over McCain. Step away from the Drudge. No wonder he is no longer the king of the internet.
After Palin’s show of utter ignorance today, I expect it to get closer to Bush levels of approval by Tuesday.

I am being holier than thou?
Open your eyes and ears and listen, for goodness sake. You say Obama said this or that, especially about that spread the wealth crap, but did you hear the whole thing? That is not at all what he said – AND HE SAID SO. These are not my words, they are his.
Spread the wealth was so that people could use Joe the Plumber’s services. It’s on tape.
Watch the whole thing. Socialism is not trying to make jobs so that people can work (which means people can shop which supports the economy. That is how the economy works…you buy stuff, but you cannot buy stuff if you do not have any money to buy stuff).
That is not socialism and it is not spreading the wealth, unless you count having a job as spreading the wealth.

Let’s see if they have the courage to do that to Barrack or his wife. Hell will break loose. maybe they can talk about our 57 states or how America is a downright mean country when you make over 300k as a professor with 3 years experience because your husband is a senator or maybe about how to get a cheap/free land when you make a deal with a slumlord.
But all these are too difficult to be understood by illiterate uneducated wanna-be victims.

John Cleese was on Countdown yesterday. He pointed out that John McCain “palled” around with communists in Hanoi for 6 years, ate their food and had his accommodation paid for by them. He then sought to normalize relations with Communist Vietnam. This man should be disqualified from running as President. God help us!! Wake up people!!

I though Palin would’ve taken a hint that it was a joke when Sarkozy gushed about loving to kill animals. What is terrifying is how Palin just laughed gaily in response.
I don’t know, this bodes that she is naive and not very prudent, perhaps? Can you imagine if bin Laden calls her and poses as someone to weasel sensitive national security information out of her? It’s the same with her using such an easily hackable password for her e-mail, and using a free service instead of the secured federal network to conduct government business.

I’m not an American and I really don’t care about the result of whoever becomes the next president. There’s only one thing you voters should observe. McCain is boasting that he’s got war experience. Remember, he was captured and a POW in Vietnam. Wasn’t he captured since he miscalculated his moves? Was it because of wrong decisions? Will he do it again if he ever becomes the president?

It is so sad that a potential vice president could be duped by a couple of comedians. I feel very sorry for her, but it is worrying that a vice president or president could be so easily be made the fool. This goes beyond a couple of city slickers manipulating an inexperienced and naïve small town hick, it illustrates the jeopardy of the United States being placed in the hands of an unqualified person. The comedians obviously played on her inflated ego being eager to accept international prominence. Maybe she can be forgiven, as she is not able to see Canada from her bedroom window. How is she to know who the prime minister of Canada is, or that Quebec does not have a prime minister, or that you cannot see Belgium from Paris. You cannot expect a small town beauty queen to understand the complexities of our international relationships or even the foreign countries involved. Her level of understanding seems to be limited to what she might have picked up reading the celebrity magazines while waiting at the local beauty parlour.

What we really should be worrying about:
Bob Smith, the former Republican senator from New Hampshire, has said that McCain’s “temper would place this country at risk in international affairs and the world perhaps in danger. In my mind, it should disqualify him.”
Sen. Thad Cochran (R) of Mississippi weighed in that “the thought of his being president sends a cold chill down my spine. He is erratic. He is hotheaded.”
Sen. Pete Domenici (R) of New Mexico has said he doesn’t “want this guy anywhere near a trigger.”
And retired Navy pilot Phillip Butler, who in addition to being a classmate of John McCain at Annapolis was a fellow POW at the Hanoi Hilton, wrote: “I can verify that John has an infamous reputation for being a hot-head. He has a quick and explosive temper that many have experienced first hand. Folks, quite honestly that is not the finger I want next to the nuclear button.”

Please, people, try to be civilized- its obvious that the extreme right hates the extreme left and that there is prejudice and hatred in the world- there are enough wars in the world to prove this- it would be nice to hear a compassionate veiw of Palin’s difficulties due to her lack of experience- even though she is not of my liking I cant help but feel badly for her here…

This is the funniest thing I have heard all weekend! What a maroon! I feel so confidant with her having top level government secrets. At this stage of the game, to be “punked” simply supports the notion held by most thinking americans that this choice is uninformed, and easily duped. With regards to foreign policy, I can forgive much, but not knowing the heads of state of our nearest country (who are supposedly great partners of Alaska, and who some in Alaska can even see from their house) is unforgivable. Republicans, you can blame this all you want on the media, you can invoke the inexperience of Obama, the gaffes of Biden, however, you lose all credibility when you defend this mensa member and her dumb exploits. I implore you to keep her as a party leader, because watching her crash and burn on a daily basis is more fun than a person has a right to have!
Posted by: cbot2255 | November 2, 2008, 7:00 am 7:00 am
Somehow I doubt the point of this affair is that in contrast to McCain’s campaign the Obama campaign is so organized that they “first double check before handing the phone to Obama”. And although it is a pretty amazing accomplishment from Palin to NOT detect something is out of order, that is not entirely the point either. The point I think is that it appears that Palin is so totally dependent and trusting of the judgment of the people around her, that she would dismiss in her own mind any doubts that might try to surface. And that would make her the perfect puppet president. The buck isn’t gonna stop at Sarah Palin’s desk, Big Oil and wealthy interest groups can just continue throwing money at it and the bucks will just keep on rolling unchecked.

To those who are feeling so sorry for Palin, I’m with you to the extent I can feel sympathy for her. But to suggest that our feeling sorry for her means we should overlook her obvious imperfections and vote for her, for chrissake, get real.

Right now, there’s a lot of people that want to laugh at Palin for spending almost 10 minutes on the phone with a crank caller that she never picked up on, but in reality, if those people somehow manage to win the election, the joke would be on us, and the whole world would be laughing.
Remember that Tuesday. This election is not a joke.

Someone this gullible and lacking in sense should not be in the White House.
She is also a total phony, and a dangerous one at that.
Her staffers must all be idiots as well,
how could a call like that even get through?
I’m sure we can look forward to more hilarity, at the country’s expense, if she gets in the White House, God forbid.
I’m starting to think she was picked just to make Bush look good by comparison.

Does the Obama camp, from Sen. Obama on down, let anything pass without a snide remark? This is the most smug, condescending, meanspirited, snide campaign I have ever seen. Obama’s response to the “spread the wealth around” controversy? He jeers that McCain will next accuse him of communism for splitting sandwiches with friends in elementary school. The airwaves were filled this weekend with cracks about McCain’s “Bush” Halloween costume. Yet everyone smiles at this, whereas any similar humor from the Republicans is pounced upon as somehow meanspirited.
I still recall when Hillary made an effective joke during a primary debate, when asked about some voters’ response to her persona, and Obama stepped on it with his condescending, “Oh, Hillary, you’re likeable enough.”
Four years of listening to Obama, Axelrod, and Gibbs, with that attitude? No thanks.
Use your brain/Vote McCain

Once again, Palin’s staff let her down. She should be able to trust the staffer who says, “the President of France is on the line.” For an audio of the call & translation of some of the jokes, go to the Entertainment section of the lower right column. There’s audio for a Chris Rock get-out-the-vote rally there, too. Jake’s post is linked, too.

As much as I think Sarak Palin doesn’t have the intellect or experience to be VP (let alone President – Sheesh) I’ll give her a pass on this one. (lol)
The fact is the woman doesn’t know “jack” about the world, world history and frankly I’d bet she’d fail American History as well. She isn’t nor has she ever been an academic or well read.
She’s nothing more than a ploy to mobilize the Conservative masses who only vote for “hot” topics like abortion, guns, taxes, etc. Very rarely do you ever come across a “Conservative” who votes based on the SUM of everything. Instead, the vote based on ONE variable in the equation.
In my humble opinion, Sarah was and should be a DEAL breaker for every conservative. How exactly do you vote for a 72 year old man with a questionable medical history with HER in line to succeed him if he dies? I mean really. Better yet, why aren’t more Conservatives concerned about Sarah’s inability to produce her MEDICAL records this late in the game? What exactly is she hiding?
How many times have we heard Republicans using the old what is he hiding tactic (knowing the answer is nothing)? Yet here you are two days from the election and she’s holding out. Talk about robots. Pathetic.

Ok, c’mon, even you mindless republicans have to admit by now that Sara Palin is not in any way shape or form ready or capable of holding a position in high office. Paleeeeze! Tell us after hearing Palin exposing her cluelessness and stupidity and deceitfulness in this call, that you would be comfortable with her holding high office and dealing with foreign leaders on America’s behalf. Would you reallty trust her with negotiating with people like Putin in a crisis? If you mindless republicans can’t even be honest with that, then you are simply proving that you don’t have a rational brain.
