Obama to Name Napolitano, Peña, Daley to Transition Team

In addition to the three people who will be running President-elect Barack Obama’s transition team — former White House chief of staff John Podesta, Obama family friend/businesswoman Valier Jarrett, and Obama campaign chief of staff Pete Rouse, as first reported by the New York Times — the Obama transition team will today announce some members of the transition team advisory board.

ABC News has learned that three of those members will be Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano, former Clinton Transportation and Energy Secretary Federico Peña, and former Clinton Commerce Secretary William Daley.

The video lies is promoting is that Obama’s have to approve your speech to be allowed as free speech.
If they don’t approve, they mob you and deny you of your right.
It was nice to see at the end of the video, the cops were there to restore the man’s right to free speech.

BUYING THE WHITE HOUSE…is media going to touch this subject at all?
After two years of campainging and spending $600 MILLION+…Obama got 52% of the vote, compare to 51% Bush in 2004!! hmmm
that $600 million got him about 900,000 more votes.!!!!
so the next president has to raise $1 BILLION to get the white house back?
Is public financing dead? is this what America want to model…buying white house with lots and lots of money…hmmm

Posted by: Frieda | November 5, 2008, 12:22 pm 12:22 pm

Huh? Let’s see,
Clinton Administration
- budget surplus
- positive economy
- jobs
Current Administration
- Record $438 Billion DEFICIT
- The greatest economic CRISIS in the history of the US
- Jobless rate continuing to rise
What am I missing? It’s looking to me like the trickle down theory has dried up.

You haven’t even begun to feel buyers remorse yet. This is just politics as usual. I am looking forward to 2010 when all the disaffected voters are making there choices.
Obama/Biden are no more than a couple of snake oil salesmen who struck it big.I didn’t care for McCain either, but at least he wasn’t pushing the “share the wealth” lie. You can’t promise everyone everything and then come thru

Posted by: Don | November 5, 2008, 12:25 pm 12:25 pm

Sorry you McCain/Palin supporters are so disappointed. But you need to accept the truth. Obama/Biden were the better candidates. Nothing to do with Obama being half-black. Blacks would have voted for the Democrat in record numbers regardless, they always do. Your guy McCain made quite a few mistakes, not the least of which was picking Palin because he thought he could get the women’s vote and the religious fundamentalists. Really big mistake. You want to compare a religious fanatic airhead with Hillary Clinton? Really? Obama will pick only the best minds needed for the best job, and if the best minds happen to be people from the Clinton Administration – or even the Bush Administration, so be it. That’s what’s good about Obama. He just uses pragmatism and common sense and, not partisan politics, to get done what is necessary. This is a trait that has gotten him where he is today and you need to understand that fact. He’ll be a great President but you can keep on hating him because that is what you do best – hate. That’s your right, but even Nixon claimed that hate destroys the person who does it. So keep it up, and destroy yourselves. Fine with me.

It won’t be long before Obama’s goons will show up to demand higher taxes on hard working real Americans and small businesses.
Now, the election unleashed Obama as a liberal serpent spewing Marxist venom that will destroy this great country.
I’ve had very nice and pleasant dreams since Palin was put on the ticket, but that turned into a nightmare last night with Obama raping me and pillaging this country.
May God bless America.

If that man was protesting at McCain/Palin ralley, he would have been lynched. I have nothing against him holding a sign protesting or raising questions. I have nothing against people questioning his motives. The voters have spoken – they ignored him and his kind.

Geecee – Being half-black did get Obama onto the national stage while a state senator, did generate media buzz while a state senator, did get him open endorsements from people who have never endorsed anyone (Oprah anyone?), more of the black vote in the primaries, did get him more newly registered and transferred Rep voters, did box his critics/opponents in (esp when they would cry racism!), did bring in intl interest, did add a level of “vote for him or be a racist” pressure to the electorate …
Hey, he used what he had to win — and that included being half-black.

Seems like they are starting off well with some good personnel moves.
Two former Cabinet Secretaries and a very effective centrist governor acting as advisors are the types you would want evaluating the talent needed for the task.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Napolitano is given a cabinet post, since she is already half-way thru her 2nd term.
They definitely aren’t horsing around, so no chance for Michael Brown getting any work under an Obama administration.

Just so y’all know, I voted McCain and don’t have sour grapes in me mouth. I am somewhat concerned about what Obama will do vs. what he has said. However, his election is truly historic, and I will give him the benefit of the doubt. He is a smart guy, so we’ll see. He also enables me to travel overseas and not get called a fascist. Selfish and shallow, I know…
Bill Whittle has a good column on this today that I suggest all sour grapes losers read.
If the nation prospers under Obama, I will be the first to say that I was wrong and he will have my vote in 2012. Now, it’s up to him.

Within hours of Obama’s coronation, Russia’s Medvedev antagonistically announced that his country is going to install a first strike missile system aimed at America; HAMAS began firing missiles into Israel; and Israel is developing an aggressive “go-it-alone” stance against Iran.”
Still not very big on reality now are you? Obama is not president until January. You’ve just decribed a handful of messes on Republican President George Bush’s plate. Perhaps if he wasn’t so busy trying to figure out a justification to bomb Iran he would take care of America’s business. More likely, you’ve just described a few more things that will fester under President Bush’s incompetence and have to be cleaned up by Obama.

Posted by: William J. LePetomaine | November 5, 2008, 1:02 pm 1:02 pm

McCain lost the election because of the rationale of the some of those who comment here on Jake’s blog. McCain and Co. ran a campaign that was 30 years old, and, they tried to ‘demonize’ the opposition as if he wasn’t an American.
Instead of debating issues, Republicans ranted about ‘associations’, instead of getting a pulse on current day America, they relied on the tactics that worked in the past.
Bush, Cheney and Co. traveled down a path
most Americans rejected.
America lost faith with Republicans as crisis multiplied in our country. The country felt that republicans had no answers.
All things, eventually change….. Republicans did not
These are still difficult times we live in and only
time will tell if he is successful. There is a sense that something good has happened in America, as if most folks have taken their first deep breath in a long while.
There is something to be said for hope, and a man like Obama who seems to be secure and smart enough to try something different and conduct himself in a different way.
I truly hope he is.

This is a wonderful day and I’m proud to be an American. I know Obama will bring about change and guide us well into the 21st century. That said, I hope the Republican party realizes that they’ve moved far from mainstream America. The a party that works by dividing our country will be a party that will fail. The hard right base of about 35% will not be enough to help them win in the future. It’s time that Republicans (moderates) take back their party from the religious right, neocons, and Karl Rove.

Buying the White House? The majority of Obama’s funds were given by ordinary people giving $25, like I did. So that is DEMOCRACY people, that is how it works. Every time Palin had some horrible new attack, I donated $25 more dollars. You all can remain racists and haters, go ahead if that is how you want to live your life. But we’ve put up with 8 years of Republican nonsense, so it’s our turn.

Posted by: jen | November 5, 2008, 1:07 pm 1:07 pm

Yes, those who have been announced above are former Clinton appointees and have ‘experience’ but Obama will need some people who know their way around so having experience will be a plus. This does not mean he will chose either of the Clintons for any position [although he could], but he also believes in working in a bipartisan manner, and this appears to be one of his first steps in so doing.
Don’t start “judging” him before he even takes office. Just because we voted him into office doesn’t mean we will agree with every little decision he makes. We must all have faith [as we did in his campaign] in his ability to govern and lead, so please give him a chance.

“Obama had to endure accusations of being “racist” because of Rev. Wright, and shouts of “terrorist” because of Bill Ayers, and he was called Muslim due to his biological father, and accused of having a fake birth certificate, and accused of being a socialist because of his very-detailed answer given ever so patiently to the loser Joe The Plumber, who then turned around and used it against Obama, and he was verbally assaulted every day on a regular basis by the likes of Limpig and his minions, Fox Noise Channel, etc. for the past year. He endured all this and never attacked McCain on anything but his policies. Even Jesse Jackson wanted to castrate Obama because he felt he was “talkng down to black people”. Obama stayed above the fray and this is the result. It wasn’t an easy road as you might want to believe. Imagine how much of a voter plurality he would have gotten by if he were all white? Whew!! And again, since he was the Democrat, he would have still gotten the black vote, perhaps not as much. Palin was the perfect Rethug attack dog, rallying her supporters with such hateful and divisive lying rhetoric, goading them on to hate Obama. Well, it might have worked on some people in this country, but not all of us, now did it? Some of us can actually think for ourselves.”
Well put . . .

Posted by: pefros | November 5, 2008, 1:10 pm 1:10 pm

The country has changed a lot in the past 15 years. GOP has to stop being a all-white party with extremist views and start being a more inclusive party without injecting religion in public domain. Leave religion to the churches. There was a reason why church and state were kept seperate. You tinker with this fundamental principle and this is what happens. Religion and faith are beyond the grasp of any human being. If GOP chooses Palin as it’s representative after this, I can predict right now that GOP will only shrink further.

Do Americans really think we can fix this Nation without increasing Taxes? We need $$. Period. Everyone crying about the taxes increases needs to realize, we don’t have a choice. Either WE pay for the reform WE need, or it will be left to our children and grandchildren. Americans need to stand up, take personal responsibilty for the changes that are needed. Cash does not fall from the sky. Spending needs to be checked and balanced….but we have to have $$ to move in this world.

The Far Religous Right will not understand how they lost. For years, the Republican brand has shown the only way to victory for them is a campaign full of attacks that America will simply not stand for. Even after all the polls and the American people asking the Conservatives to stop attacking, they didn’t. This has become a part of the new Republican brand– support your party’s endeavors, but not your country’s endeavors. They have shown very little progress in realizing that the campaign they ran did nothing for their cause and what they are fighting for. People now see Republicans as unyeilding, prejudice, hostile, & unruly. Instead of promoting peace and attacking Obama’s policies, they used the tactics that Americans are not fond of.
Today is a new America and its not about electing the first African American President; I knew we would eventually do as such. Electing Obama stands for our rebellion against tactics we do not approve of or like. The youth came out in full force, after years of sitting on the sidelines and let elders who lived in a different time, shape a future they will not be around to see. We understood now it was our responsibility to change USA & the World and we took the platform and the only candidate who asked us to do our part. That’s why people voted for Obama. He’s allowing us to come together to make choices, realizing we may not always see eye to eye, but because of our common bond of being American citizens, we can overcome any obstacle set before us. Obama has started a movement among the youth, that values service in many various forms, and can come together to face any problem that the world may deem impossible. I’m proud of the American youth today because they’ve had their say.
American Youth= Change You Can Believe In!

If McCain had stood up for his values, he would have had a better chance. He lost it when he sacrificed himself to win the Republican nomination. When McCain won his nomenation, it was as if the McCain and the rest of the GOP jumped off a cliff and McCain “won” by beating the others to the bottom.

Nevada 2:
I agree…it is worth it to me almost to see everybody so thrilled…they would have been very disappointed to say the least had Obama somehow lost. I can see it in peoples’ eyes today that something great has been achieved. And it has…
I urge all McCain followers to take his concession speech to heart. Once the campaign is over, the negative comments (from both sides, I might add) and feelings can dissipate. We should support president Obama, it is the will of our nation. We may vehemently disagree with him and fight for whatever position we believe in, but he deserves our respect.
I will not take the path many did with Bush and disclaim Obama as president (though Bush at times was pretty easy to disrespect…I guess Clinton, too…ah I am getting off track!)
Think of it his way…was living under Clinton a living nightmare for conservatives or just a minor irritation? My life was not too shabby back then…Maybe we all just play a partisan role in shooting for 100% of our philosophies to be enacted, but maybe we should be at least mildly satisfied if we get a muddy middle…I dunno.
I just don’t think that we need to continue the rancor…although I take issue that only McCain supporters have been responsible for attack politics.
I think back to the dem caucus in my state…I thought it would be about even between Obama and Clinton…it wasn’t, and the majority made it clear that Clinton supporters were old news, and that she was supposedly just like good ol Bush…I was pretty taken aback by the tone…anyway, let’s chill, put on some Obama shades, and get along, at least on a human level.
We live in the greatest country on earth. Let’s act like it.

As I shed tears I am so thrilled that my children will also have a chance to hope, dream and accomplish. Its not just a dream any more………Thank you President Barrack Obama !

One of the things we should learn from this election is character assassination & negative attacks do not rally take you very far.
Obama is a decent, brightest of all, ethical & even tempered man.
He never took the low road, his opponents took to counter the character assassination.
I think it should be a lesson of life time, and for who ever will be running against Obama after 4 years, that character assassination of Obama had not worked in 2008 and, will not work for him or her in 2012.

The first thing that congress needs to do after obama is sworn in is to impeach him and save us from 4 years of ineptitude.

I’m all for benevolence and being magnanimous, but this makes me laugh:
“I bought the White House!”
Do you mean that Mitt Romney should have just spent more and it would have been his? LOL
If the white house was bought, who paid the bill? And why did so many believe in him with their wallets?
Every day, I’ll invite people to grow up and own that the people who voted for Obama are Americans and not the enemy.
And every day, I’ll be excited if only one person joins me per day. That’s change, baby!

I will be anxious to see if Obama runs the white house like a moderate conversative he campaigned like during this election. He has always been the most liberal in congress. I hope he sticks to his guns. Its a shame that McCain is a Moderate Conservative REP(that is what he really is), but he campaigned as a total right wing republican. He lost because he tried to be somebody that he was not.

This presidency will be a joke and hell. It will be a long 4 years. Obama has no clue what to do with all that is being passed down to him. He has no experience! Everyone who voted for him will see what a fake he is when he does not do what he promised the American people. I’m sick of hearing about him already. This is crap.

Posted by: Kris | November 5, 2008, 1:36 pm 1:36 pm

I think it was very telling when, during McCain’s concession speech, people in the audience booed when McCain mentioned Obama’s name. When Obama mentioned McCain’s name, people in the audience cheered. That says a LOT about McCain supporters.

Posted by: MorningGlory1120 | November 5, 2008, 1:37 pm 1:37 pm

I was terribly disgusted and depressed when Gore and Kerry lost their bid for office, to the point of saying, “to h*ll with all of politics and NEVER AGAIN will I support another politician”. So when Obama came along and I first heard him speak at the Dem Convention of 2004, I knew then that if he ever decided to run, I could do NOTHING ELSE BUT SUPPORT HIM because he spoke to all Americans in a manner which stated we should be inclusive. That is what TOUCHED THE VERY NERVE THAT MAKES US PEOPLE AND AMERICANS!
As surprised as I was when he announced his campaign, my husband and I supported him through funds and any work possible to help him achieve success. Last night was the fruition of that caring and support.
For those here who would rather HATE, I feel sorry for you because you [despite having hearts filled with racism and hate] will reap the very same rewards and benefits that those of us who supported him throughout his long journey will reap. From the beginning, he has been ALL INCLUSIVE rather than DIVISIVE AND DERISIVE as McCain and Palin had been and even encouraged. They too will even reap the rewards from his administration.
So this leaves me with one very important lesson and that is in order for the Republican brand to rise again, they indeed need to deliberately examine their core beliefs and determine how they can change in an effort to once again be a strong, viable and inclusive party. Until then, they will stay right where they lay today because too many of us observed their very real ‘rotten to the very core’ empty campaign and its rhetoric. The majority of Americans REJECTED it with this overwhelming victory and that should speak volumes to the Republicans. Whenever the GOP deliberately and decisively scrubs its image clean with changes to its core beliefs that reflect good basic American values, then perhaps it will once again rise. Until then, thank God, those bankrupt ideals will lie as dead as McCain and Palin’s campaign along with our current POTUS’s LACK of CHARACTER, JUDGMENT AND POLICIES.

A hopeful American and Obama Supporter, Josephine, writes:
“The majority of Obama’s funds were given by ordinary people giving $25, like I did. So that is DEMOCRACY people, that is how it works.”
Maybe. Or Maybe not.
According to what the Obama Campaign told the Washington Post, ( one of the Main Stream Media Newspapers who backed Obama openly) the following is true:
1. Contributions under $200 were not reported to the Federal Election Commission as to who they came from.
2. The vast majority of the Hundreds of Millions of Dollars collected by OBAMA campaign came in over the Internet.
3. The Obama Campaign did not record who’s credit card, check card, debit card or gift card any transaction ( large or small ) that came in over the internet was charged against. The Campaign said they did not believe that such information was even collectible. Other past democratic campaigns told the Washington Post this last claim by the Obama campaign was not correct – such information was available as part of an internet donation.
3. The Obama campaign indicated to the Washington Post they relied only on the information the individual keyed in on the Internet as to the Name of the Donor, Address, Donor’s employer, etc.
4. The Obama campaign never attempted to see if the name keyed in matched the name on the credit card / bank account / check card / debit card / gift card used to make the transmission. The Campaign instead indicated they did not even attempt to capture the name on the credit card / bank account etc.
The Bottom line here is that neither Josephine, nor the Federal Election Commision, nor – according to the Obama Campaign – does the Obama Campaign really no where that money came from because they did not even attempt to collect any objective information about the source of the money.
Only what some unknown person, in some unknown country, keyed in – or had a computer generate and submit – on the other end of a internet transaction.
Could the Obama Campaign have collected this information – of course – internet businesses collect credit card names and billing addresses all the time.
The Obama Campaign however claims they did NOT and that it was not their goal do so.
I also am hopeful – but I also do not know who financed the Obama campaign and I do not attempt to deceive myself into thinking I do.

In 2000 and again in 2004, we on the left thought the end was near. How could the country elect such an awful candidate in George Bush. We thought the best days of the Republic were over. But you know what. The world didn’t stop. The trains still ran on time. Wall Street became a mess, the Iraq war is a horrible boondogle. But life carried on. Now, we on the Left are rejoicing. Our guy won and it was decisive. He has a true mandate and has shown steadiness, character and maturity, the likes we haven’t seen in modern politics in a long time. You folks on the Right that are lamenting the possibility of higher taxes, etc., etc., remember that we on the Left thought the world was ending on this day in 2000 and 2004, but it didn’t. Take a deep breath. Give Obama a chance. Enjoy the fact that we definitely are in a new post Bush post Clinton era in American politics. Take a look at your leaders and ask them, not us, ask them why you lost. And, then, give Obama a friggin’ chance for Pete’s sake. He hasn’t even taken the oath of office yet. We think he’ll be an amazing leader, put the economy back on track and get us out of the 5 year mess in Iraq.

I have to agree. I am scared to death now of what America will turn into. Obama’s terroist relations, trying to incorporate a single money exchange, building a New World Order, etc. All of these things must come to pass in order for the Anti-Christ to take up his reign. Obama is a pawn in the scheme of things. America has now entered the darkest days of her existence with the election of Barack Obama. God help us for the mistake that was made by electing this man. No longer can we enjoy the good things of life as Obama will make sure these things are taken away.

I agree about McCain’s campaign…as a moderate myself, I thought McCain was a great choice, but many far right wingers basically withdrew support for him and called him a traitor at the stupidest time possible. It was a case of “if my candidate can’t win, I am taking my ball home” Then, McCain’s message became more right wing…I don’t think that is who he is, but he let the “rump” dictate his message…
It’s the same reason why Giuliani (who I like) can’t win the nomination, because he is too socially liberal…to me that is just understanding the role of government v. the role of culture.
Oh well…the US has spoken in a big way…they want change. Now, we will see what that means. Hopefully it will be good.

I expect the transition team to help bring in excellent people. It’s time for a government run by intelligent, compassionate, and competent leaders. I honestly think most Americans have forgotten what that is like, with many others not being old enough to have experienced it at all. Modern conservatism has been relegated to the trash bin of history, and a new era of smart progressivism will not only repair the damage of the Reagan Era, but get us back on the upward course set by FDR and Kennedy. People like you belong in the frontier of Alaska where you can shoot guns, chop down trees, drill for oil and kill as many polar bears as you desire. Think of the freedom you will have to wear your flag pins, flag hats and flag shorts with impunity. Ann & JT are you for real. Anti-Crist ?
One would have hoped that people like you would have cause to gaze upon your own ideals and question how hatred and negativism has actually brought this country to it’s knees this last year.
Here is a news flash for you – Obama is now going to be our President for many reasons the least of which is the wholesale rejection of hatred and the politics that seek to destroy our very American ideals. One thing strikes me as a comforting moment in all this type of rhetoric. Obama will be President for ALL Americans – even those such as yourself that will need to be dragged kicking and screeching into the 21st Century. Perhaps you should take a lesson from your extreme Muslim counterparts who choose to overlook the true meaning of religion and God and instead interpret it as a tool to spread hatred and un-Godliness. Fortunately for us all, Obama truly does understand who Christ is – shame on you for failing to recognize that.

Last night I cried tears of great joy because I honestly believed that I would never personally witness this momentous occasion; I never doubted this day would come but only whether I would live to see it. THANK GOD I have indeed witnessed the day my beloved nation began a new era of healing and moved ever closer to living out the true meaning of our Constitution and its all important/impressive preamble.
Now for some perspectives that I hope will help you understand what this election means to me:
(1) During his analysis last night Roland Martin reminded us that 2009 will mark the 100th anniversary for the NAACP. He also reminded us that the NAACP got its start that year as the result of a huge riot in Springfield, IL (site of where Obama announced his candidacy). The other thing he mentioned brought even more tears of joy was the final speech given by Dr. King who’s last words I shall never forget “I may not get there with you but I’ve been to the mountain top and seen the promise land”! What was so striking about remembering these words is the number of years that have gone by since those words – a little over 40 years. I firmly believe Dr. King saw this day and knew it would be 40 years when the Lord answered his prayers that this nation would one day judge an African American by the content of his character rather than the color of his skin.
(2) Forty years is a very significant number in Biblical terms here are some references to that point: The Bible [New World Bible, 1984] is replete with references to 40 years as a time period of special significance. Isaac and Esau married at 40 [Genesis, 25:20, 26:34]. A man was full-grown at 40 [Exodus, 2:11; Acts, 7:23; cf. Joshua, 14:7; Samuel, 2:10]. At age 40, Moses defended his oppressed brethren and struck the Egyptian taskmaster [Acts, 7:23]7. After another 40 years, an angel appeared to Moses in the wilderness of Mount Sinai in a flame of fire in a bush [Acts 7:30]. Saul reigned as king for 40 years [Acts 13:21]. The 40-year reigns of David, Solomon, and Joash [2 Samuel, 5:4; 1 Kings, 2:11, 11:42; 1 Chronicles 29:26; 2 Chronicles, 9:30, 24:1] are proof of divine favor. The lame man that Peter raised up and made to walk as a divine sign was more than 40-years-old [Acts: 3: 7, 23]. Eighty (or two times 40) years were ripe old age [II Samuel, 19:34-35; Psalms, 90:10]. Moses was age 80 when he was summoned by the Lord to be His messenger to tell Pharaoh to free the Israelites [Exodus, 7:7]. Eighty years was the term of Joseph’s service to Pharaoh [Genesis, 41:46, 50:26]. One hundred twenty (or three times 40) years was maximum life span [Genesis, 6:3]. Moses was age 120 when he died [Deuteronomy, 34:7].
(3) You may wonder why this is so important to me, so here are some of the things that I remember which basically led me to become the person I am today:
(a) I remember growing up during times that were difficult but also being keenly aware of the tremendous sacrifices made by men like my dad and father-in-law. They were forced to serve this nation and yet endured the ultimate indignant treatment when German POWs were treated better than them and when they returned home they still could not vote. Worse their manhood was severely challenged in every aspect, yet they never lost their dignity or self-worth.
(b) I remember the many trips, by car, to Mississippi where sometimes my dad was allowed to buy gas, many times he was denied but what I also remember is the times he was told his family could not use their rest rooms and could only imagine how that must have made him feel as a husband and father.
(c) I remember not being able to enter the front of places of business and even having to sit in the balcony of movie theaters.
(d) I remember my adult family members having to cow tail to whites, calling everyone sir or ma’am, no matter that persons age and the fear in their faces because they could not look them in the eye.
(e) I remember my early days in Junior High, after attending an all Black elementary school, and not having any idea what the teacher meant by preparing a book report.
(f) I remember joining the Air Force to serve this great nation, in spite of its short comings, especially my first assignment to Robins AFB, GA (Warner Robins, GA) where the gate guards openly called me boy or used the N word when I went back and forth to the base.
(g) I remember the hurt I felt when they told me I could not rent the very nice apartments for my young wife and newborn child but they offered me quarters far worse than the projects’ we lived in during my formative years.
(h) I remember being at a Laundromat in Warner Robins and how a white family snatched up their daughter when they realized she was about to touch our young toddler.
(i) I remember whites who would rather stand than sit next to a black following desegregation. I keenly remember the race riots of the late sixties and early seventies, even on military bases;
(j) I remember the tough racial climate during my tour in Vietnam.
(k) There are so many other things that I could list but hopefully these will enlighten some of you who have not had to endure these kind of challenges. Suffice it to say that the things my generation endured were of minor importance in comparison to the great heroes of the slave and Jim Crow days; we are standing on their shoulders and must never take for granted all the blood, sweat and tears they poured out so that we might see this great day for America.
(4) In spite of all these challenges and the concerns I have I am so blessed to be able to say that I am an American because I live in the greatest nation on earth. This election demonstrates the great strength and genius of the American way of life that our Founding Fathers made possible. It is another watershed period in the evolution of America’s unique capacity to show the rest of the world its true mettle!
(5) However,we must not rest, become complacent or accept mediocrity from ourselves, especially from our youth! It is incumbent upon each of us to take personal responsibility to help change our nation, one community at a time beginning with our families first. We have no other choice but to demand the very best from ourselves, our loved ones, friends, co-workers and associates. President-Elect Obama will need the strength and support of every single American so it is time for us to do our individual part in ensuring Change actually happens; it is not here yet but the door has been cracked wide open and Change is there for the taking but it will not happen without a fight and much sacrifice! It is time to put an end to the bitterness on what divides us and focus on what unites us . That does not mean we should forget, on the contrary we must remember. but we cannot go forward if we are looking back as we take the steps necessary to achieve Change; reflect but stay focused on the challenges before the greatest nation the world has ever known!
These are some of my perspectives which erupted like a volcanic explosion around 11:00 P.M., November 4, 2008 that I felt compelled to share with you because you are important and your involvement/commitment key to helping this nation achieve even greater heights than we might be able to imagine!
May GOD continue to bless, protect and prosper the United States of America!

The hateful comments that appear here show the extent to which the nation has been run for the past 8 years by the least intelligent amongst us. Fortunately, they all reside in one part and for the most part call themselves republicans. Surely, come Jan 20th they will be out en masse just as they availed themselves at the outset of the Clinton administration.
They will be well funded by the likes of richard mellon-scaithe, et. al. and supported by the fascist right-wing talk radio network along with faux news. These hypocrites are clearly becoming a self-destructing minority and will continue to self-destruct over the next 4 to 8 years.
Though preliminary, the election returns show a clear divide of this “new” monority. Their stupidity in offering up a candidate that promised to give the nation nothing more than a continuation of the bush administration. Let’s pray for these fools but more ahead with the challenging work that lie ahead.

None of us can claim some familiarity with Obama to make the kind of hateful, sour comments about his character. None of us works on the Hill, does business in the Senate or eats dinner at his table. So, your candidate did not win, but he was gracious in defeat. His supporters though continue the attacks that really had a negative impact on his campaign. That was never who John McCain wanted to be, he said that himself from the outset of his campaign. Your anger is based on the tidbits of news, gossip, speculation, and supposition that permeated the news during the campaign. Socialist, terrorist? Shameless monikers to attach to this man. Both men had questionable alliances, but neither runs in the same circles with those people any more. You did not hold McCain guilty for his past transgressions, yet for what reason do you continually begrudge Obama? Be angry. I was when I felt Gore was robbed of the presidency in Florida. In the end, George Bush, was still America’s president, my president. Don’t pray for Obama’s failure, because as a nation, it will be your failure and mine as well. Get over yourselves. He may not have earned your vote, but he didn’t buy the White House. Enough of each party joined together to elect someone who will try like all other presidents, try to lead America to continued greatness at home and abroad. The presidency is a job. He can be fired should he not perform. Your anger should be directed at the state of our nation, not Obama. Clinton left office with a surplus not a seemingly insurmountalbe deficit. At that time, the Republicans were elected and entrusted with our wealth. Had they been fiscally conservative with it, our economy would not be in shambles. It should be our national disgrace that there are homeless children, homeless veterans. It should be our national disgrace that families work two and three jobs and still can not afford insurance for their children, build a savings, etc. Wanting to be socially responsible does not a socialist make. Change is required. It may hurt, but it’s necessary. Search youselves. What have you sacrificed for the greater good? What will you. What legacy would you want left to your family? To not celebrate America’s victory in this election, shows only a complacency with what continues to divide us and what if left unchallenged, will destroy us.

Such fear, and hate. Such ignorance of real issues. Have we become so provincial and tiny minded in this economy that we cannot for a minute admit that maybe some good will come from this? Have our lives and discourse become so negative, that we cannot be governed by someone for whom we didn’t vote? We allowed GWB the chance to run things. Fueled by Rove’s “republican machine” and Cheney’s isolationism. We have deregulated banking, and product safety, agriculture, and pharmaceuticals. We have eliminated the consumer and patient’s right to sue, deeming any suit brought against a corporate concern as ‘frivolous’. We have sat by and watched as oil companies post record profits and are deregulated. We have run two wars while trying to lower taxes. I make more than 300,000 dollars a year and nothing McCain could say would convince me that he had any new ideas. I watch the blogs and see the ultra right conservatives paint one ridiculous scenario after another. Talk about what happed on Hannity last night like he has a clue about anything. And now, the day after the election, we have people here praying for his downfall or for 2012 to come quickly so we can get right back to where Bush left off. It’s pathetic. Be a patriot, support someone you don’t agree with, give the man a chance the way we all gave Bush a chance. Try to be civil, for goodness sake. Just a little civility, is it too much to ask?

It continues to amaze me how ignorant and racist this country remains.
I suppose if I don’t agree with you then I am a terrorist or worse. Sense I can look past the color of a person’s skin, and their religious beliefs that makes me un-American.
These racist comments are an embarassment to our country.
So where is it that Jesus said hate everyone that doesn’t look like or think like you?

Congrats everybody !!!!

Not voting for Obama isn’t racist my friend. However spewing hateful rhetoric to a fellow Christian is. This is precisely why this man is now our President. It was time to stop the hate – how best to do that then to present America with a leader that still accepts them as his people even though many show complete ignorance towards what this country truly represents.
I remember an interview recently with a voter that was convinced that Obama was a Muslim terrorist. The really neat thing is that Obama will represent that man equally without prejudice. Obama truly is the only man I believe that could do that successfully. This will be truly inspiring to watch. Obama will be inclusive of all Americans – truly the type of leader the Founding Fathers had in mind all along.

America is a melting pot of all peoples from all over the world. Last night, I observed the difference in the faces of the McCain supporters at his concession speech, and the faces in Chicago’s Grant Park, Time Square, Pennsylvania Avenue, etc., and THOSE ARE THE “TRUE,TRUE,TRUE FACES OF AMERICA!!!! Those spewing hate today, hop back on the Mayflower sail on to wherever your ancestors came from, if you remember where that is. . .

Unlike other campaigns, the Obama campaign did the minimum reporting allowed by law – and names, addresses, employers, etc. on any transaction less then $200 are not required by law.
2. The vast majority of the Hundreds of Millions of Dollars collected by OBAMA campaign came in over the Internet. This includes both large numbers of transaction over $200 dollars and those under $200 dollars which came in over the Internet.
3. The Obama Campaign said they did not record who’s credit card, checking account, check card, debit card or gift card any transaction ( large or small ) that came in over the internet was charged against. The Campaign said they did not believe that such information was even collectible over the internet.
4. The Obama campaign never attempted to see if the name & address keyed in matched the name & address on the credit card / bank account / check card / debit card / gift card used to make the transmission. The Campaign instead indicated they did not even attempt to capture the name on the credit card / bank account etc.
The Bottom line here is that neither Josephine, nor the Federal Election Commission, nor – according to the Obama Campaign – does the Obama Campaign really know where that money came from because they did not even attempt to collect any objective information about the source of the money.
Only what some unknown person, in some unknown country, keyed in – or had a computer generate and submit – on the other end of an internet transaction.
Could the Obama Campaign have collected this information – of course – internet businesses collect credit card names and billing addresses all the time.
The Obama Campaign however claims they did NOT and that it was not their goal to do so.
I also am hopeful – but I also do not know who financed the Obama campaign and I do not attempt to deceive myself into thinking I do.

I am amazed that highly regarded and highly educated individuals such as Warren Buffet, Retired Gen. Collin Powell, Eric Schmidt (CEO of Google) and so on would support Obama.
The thing about their endorsements is that these people have analyzed and studied their candidate of choice by filtering out the unsubstantiated rumors so ‘ordinary’ people who identify with them could put their F.E.A.R (False Evidence Appearing Real) away about our president elect.
So I think if these highly respected and educated folks believe in Obama why shouldn’t ordinary people too.
It’s time to unite, and believe that we can be a better USA with our new president elect – get over your FEAR.

I wrote this poem when my mixed race grandson was born in 1999. I think it actually speaks to what Americans just accomplished. I woke him last night so he could see history being made and told him to never forget he lives in the greatest country in the world, and someday he will tell his grandchildren he was alive to see this country moved forward to a better place:
I’m the melting pot baby and I’m coming to town,
I’m the melting pot baby, gonna’ turn things around,
I’m gonna teach my children tolerance for race & creed,
& to only judge others by their works & their deeds
Shakira is black and Susan is white,
I’m cocoa brown and my momma is light.
Lu is yellow and White Feather is red,
We will all get along when the haters are dead.
The Bernsteins have a Menorah, the Smiths a Christmas tree,
We all respect each other and the right to be free,
To practice our religion without fear from hate,
Let’s spread the word around that it’s not too late!
My heritage comes from far away & many different places,
All kinds of folks with all kinds of faces.
Light skinned, dark skinned and shades in between,
This is the greatest melting pot the world has ever seen.
There are some that say I should be a bit confused,
But I know where I belong- the haters aren’t amused.
I make up this great country- the red, white & blue,
We will all live together when the haters are through.
The future of America is shining high & bright,
The melting pot babies will make everything allright.
We’ll teach the world our lesson to live in peace & love,
‘Cause the melting pot babies were sent from up above.
I hope when I grow up to be the President of our nation,
So I can humbly use the power of the station,
To show the whole world that hate is not the way
The Melting pot babies are here to save the day.
Peace out
Veronica

To Sandra Stotsky, who said that “This dissapointment of the election has greatly depressed me. I just pray now that I will over come this horrible time in my life. ” :
The “horrible time” you are going through is caused by your own pessimism and negativity. This is an historic and very exciting day for millions of Americans and people all over the world. You can help yourself by opening your eyes and your heart to the possibilities, and thinking positively.
If McCain, who poured all his energy into this campaign for months and months, can rise above and ask us to all come together and give Obama our good will and support, surely you can do better.
The choice is there for all Republicans – dig down deep and rise to your better self, or just be a sore loser and continue to predict doom and gloom. Your choice.

“It continues to amaze me how ignorant and racist this country remains.”
Well…adjust your expectations to have most of the racism dwindle down in about 40 years, when children of today are adults then and know reflexively to discard the hatred that their elders faithfully preach.
I can find no place in Matthew, Mark, Luke or John where Jesus advocates for one second even temporarily granting safe harbor to hate, enmity, venom, or bitterness in one’s heart.
BTW, my favorite quote from a blog post on fivethiryteight.com was when a retired western Pennsylvania couple reported to the Obama volunteer, when asked about their voting preference, used the “N” word when saying,
“My husband says we’re voting for the xxxxxx.”
We’ve come a long way. And in the future, the journey may almost be complete.

It is one thing that people can be down when their candidate does not win a position. But some of the empty headed crackpots on radio and these blogs make one wonder what percentage of our population is without a full deck. Wishing the new President well is a first step to wishing ourselves well. The better he does, the better we do. The end times junk and holy roller baloney along with the veiled threats and lunatic fringe statements are totally un-American.

How was it that the FEC could rapidly identify exactly how much Obama’s aunt gave? Federal campaign finance records indicated his aunt Onyango contributed at least $65 to Obama’s campaign in July and September, in $5 and $25 increments. The fundamental basis of your concerns is flat out untrue. The small dollar donations were in most cases reported. They just weren’t subjected to the same back checking that larger donations require.

After reading these comments I laugh at the hypocrisy that exits on the left. Eight years ago when George Bush was elected, I heard and read so many comments stating “Bush is not my president.” So much hate and malcontent form the left over the last eight years (the party of inclusion, right?) has permeated the news papers, web sites and liberal news channels. Now the left has a president elected, and we on the right are supposed to just accept him. You have got to be kidding! Obama is my president weather I like it or not. But I will never agree with his stance on abortion, taxes, the war in Iraq and many other issues. I will never attack him personally as has been done by the liberals in this country while they are out of power, but I will fight for my beliefs. I am 36 years old, and I am no position at this point in my life to run for office, but this election has given me the motivation to do so later in life. God bless America as we travel down this uncertain road. I hope Obama is ready for all the challenges ahead of him, but I doubt it.

SonOfHistoryProf … You don’t live in the south do you? I live it everyday in the heart of the bible belt and racist country. But racism is no longer in the hearts of very many caucasion people anymore. It is in the hearts of Latino’s and African American’s in my rural area. I grew up as a military brat and got the privledge to tour many different countries as a child and into my teens. The world is so diverse but it is americans that have been hurt in the distant past that pass that hurt on to thier children and so on and so forth, it is americans that are not willing to change. I have seen numerous hate crimes committed in the past 2 months in the name of Obama. It pains me to see that people can’t release thier pain and realize this is 2008 and not 1960. Good luck to Obama and May God Protect him.

All right, anyone who posts on this blog regularly knows I supported McCain. But if the semi-racist attitude I see in some of these comments continues to be a theme among McCain supporters or republicans, I am switching back support to the democrats…I would rather live in a Canadian-style “socialist” country than a racist one. I mean that.
Have some dignity. Follow Mr. McCain’s example of respect for the victor of the election, which was won fair and square. Politics is a tough game and both candidates swung hard. Obama won. Get over it and get to work.

Former Obama Campaign Supporters and former Obama Detractors need to stop being distracted by name calling and their own emotions.
Obama is a man, good or evil or a mix of both, like most mortal men are.
He is not a Demon nor is he the Messiah.
But he is a politician and he deserves watching.
1,700 homes are being foreclosed on each week. Who is going to pay for feeding and clothing and medical care, etc., etc. for those families thrown out on the street ? We all are. That is a simple fact.
Politicians did this to us – Democratic and Republican Politicians working together – took their eye off the ball – or were bribed by money and power to do the wrong thing.
It did not happen by accident.
We also did it by not keeping a close watch on what they were doing.
Obama is another Politician who needs to be watched by all Americans with a critical eye.
Following where the money is coming from and going to would be a great first step.
Follow the money and you find most truths.

The speech that Barack Obama gave was reminded me of FDR’s ‘Rendezvous with Destiny’ speech. And, in this election, the new president-elect took a big step toward breaking down the red state-blue state mindset that he has consistently challenged since bursting on the national scene. For the first time since the founding of the GOP in 1854, New England will be without a Republican in the U.S. House.

Suggestions for the first 100 days…
Education: announce student loan forgiveness on a 10% per year for each year a teacher with a Masters degree or higher making less than $70K a year works as a full time teacher, provide additional federal funds to schools both public and charter, specific to reducing student to teacher ratios to 10-1 Pre-K – 4th grade, 12-1 5th-8th grades, and no higher than 15-1 for 9th-12th. basically hiring more teachers and building more classrooms. Make 100% of paid tuition tax deductible for the first two years of college up to $3000 per year.
Environment/Economy: the major car manufacturers need financial help, the Gov will guarantee funds (loans) to the industry of up to $400B over 5 years with the caveat that over that 5 years the manufacturers will produce non-gasoline burning vehicles that will make up 50% of their production at the end of that 5 years with a 10% requirement for the first year and that gasoline/diesel vehicles will meet new the new minimum MPG standard of 35MPG the first year moving toward 65MPG by year 5. these funds will be avaialable not only to the major manufacturers but to any company or entrepenure that can show viability to meet requirements. $250B to be spent on new infrastructure projects directed toward producing clean energy on the local level, a 50 state initiative, each state to submit for up to $5B in funds for a project to produce a minimum of 15% of the states local power needs from a clean renewable resource. States that participate will also recieve consideration for an additional $1B for other submitted infrastructure projects, repair and matainence of existing infrrastructure and then new roads, bridges, etc. Updating electrical and communication grids take priority.
Healthcare: Combine all federal health insurance coverage into a not for profit single plan, any state funded coverage programs will have the option to affiliate, renegotiate prescription drug prices and fees to Dr’s and hospitals, modernize record keeping and allow coverage for all non-cosmetic treatments with focus on prevention and health maintenence. anyone under the age of 18 not currently covered by insurance is automatically enrolled in this program the first time they visit a Dr. or hospital. Anyone with health insurance will have the option to enroll in this program or keep the program they have. Anyone over 18, without health insurance will not be required to enroll, but will have the option to enroll any time the see the Dr or visit a hospital.
Current medicare and medicaid payroll deductions will be combined into a single deduction.
How to pay for all of this?
Allowing the individual tax cuts set to expire in 2010 to expire. Repeal the tax cuts provided to corporations the last 8 years, and provide new ones based on new jobs created and new products locally produced and to offset export costs.
As the energy initiatives are implemented, there will be a stepping down of oil purchases by the government.
The legalization of industrial hemp, this has siginificant cash crop potential for the US and for export. It could very literally turn around the farm industry and create a new global market.

Senator Barack Obama was elected the nation’s first black president Tuesday night in a historic triumph that overcame racial barriers as old as America itself. Exit polls indicated that Obama’s triumph was built on his overwhelming success with Blacks, Hispanics, 18-to-34-year-olds , new voters, and 77% of Jewish voters. This is the future of the U.S. electorate. History shows that once a young voter casts ballots twice for a given party, he or she is unlikely to ever turn away. Hispanics are the nation’s fastest-growing voting bloc. Indeed, the government recently reported that white people will no longer make up a majority of Americans by 2042, eight years sooner than previous estimates.

I understand your response as two wrongs don’t make a right, and I am not advocating the dismissal of Obama as our president. We live in a democratic society, and he won the election fair and square. My point is that many of these posts are claiming we should just accept his policies. I can’t do that! On just about every issue Obama speaks on, I take the polar opposite view. So, again I accept him as the President of the United States of America, but I will not accept his liberal agenda. These policies will drive our economy into further recession. MARK MY WORDS.

The man has just been elected and those who didn’t want him in the first place tell us we are doomed. Take a deep breath, go for a walk in the park, thank God for this America and wait and watch. He is your fellow citizen. Give him some time to show us his plans and who he will work with in his new government. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you, is a good reminder. I am sure you would appreciate it if the people who didn’t vote for you would kindly put a sock in it for a few days so you could give it your best. He really wants to do the right thing and he now gets his chance to show us all if he can. That is the way our democracy works. Thank God!

Gee, what a surprise!! 0bama named William Daley, a member of the Chicago Daley family that has owned that city for the better of the last 50 years, to his team!!
You know, the brother of the mayor who is the son of the mayor who managed to get JFK elected by invigorating the Democratic base so much that thousands of dead people arose from the grave and voted for JFK!
Looks like 0bama is starting to pay back the people who helped buy the White House for him.

I beg to differ on two points of a preceding post:
“Now the left has a president elected, and we on the right are supposed to just accept him. You have got to be kidding!”
A) *You* choose the words, “just accept him”, which should be changed to “just give a couple of decent chances.” You *choose* the “just accept” because you know you can reject that.
B) In your example, you ignore the fact that Obama tries to include everyone (inclusive) and Bush was harsh and divisive (and exclusive).
Do you have to give him a chance? No.
Nor is it compulsory to be a good sport in Athletics, but I strongly recommend it. For everyone.

I fear this election has racially divided our country from some of the emails I’ve heard. “Now, WE dominate”????? “Now, it’s OUR turn”??? What’s up with that? McCain/Palin were never given a chance since Charlie Gibson’s first interview. After that, the media took off in a frenzy and no one listened.

Posted by: Jill | November 5, 2008, 2:40 pm 2:40 pm

The sad mentality the racist hate, which has held ths country captive is no longer. The chains have been broken. yOu can’t expect to go around the country preaching patriatism when you can’t look at your neighbor with respect this is a true moment the people have spoken. When I was younger I had to sit in the back of the bus and was called names and pushed around because I was black. When I went to the movies I had to sit in the balcony. I had relatives killed because they had faith in freedom and Martin Luther King. How dare these so called americans who say they are for freedom and can’t even trust themselves or there neighbors, but you think you can go over to someone elses country and preach to them. They see what you are doing to your own people in your own Country. This is a wonderful change and I’m sorry that my Dad did not live to see this. A lot of you people are on this board with a lot of BS. You haven’t lived long enough to see what has really happened and what transpired years ago to the Black Man, Lynching and Mob Violence. Wake up stop being Stupid. We have to many Ignorant people who just can’t live with thenselves and they spread racist hate.I will not stand for nor will I ever.

**** Corrected ****
Former Obama Campaign Supporters and former Obama Detractors need to stop being distracted by name calling and their own emotions.
Obama is a man, good or evil or a mix of both, like most mortal men are.
He is not a Demon nor is he the Messiah.
But he is a politician and he deserves watching.
75,000 (corrected number) homes are being foreclosed on EACH WEEK – more than a quarter million homes per month.

Hence the reason our country is FREE>>> we can speak freely here and don’t have to be worried about being beaten in the streets for our beliefs budaa.. Go back to your hole with Bin Laden and let the big boys AND GIRLS speak. We have a free country based on our beliefs that everyone is equal and has the right to thier opinion. No Wonder your shortsightedness has led to famine and war that other countries (like us americans) have to help you with. You would agree with one thing.. Adults need to guide thier children.
so go play with your sand castles and the people of america work on our own problems.

As an Arizona Citizen, I would beg him to take Janet Napilatino, or as we commonly refer her to as Crappy Nappy, away, far far away. She has managed to bankrupt our state. In my opintion, this would the best thing to come from this election!

To Sandy and all of us believers:
Let no one despair. We must all rejoice in our God. Continue to pray for conversion of all those who hold public office and that The Holy Spirit works in their lives to make the best decisions for not only our country but their journey to God. Always remember that God will never forsake you. Through our prayers, He is listening.
May God guide us all and may we praise Him and trust in Him. This is a reminder for not only anyone who reads this but for myself. I am just another simple soul!

I also am hopeful – but I also do not know who financed the Obama campaign and I do not attempt to deceive myself into thinking I do.v

It’s been less than 24 hours and we already have Obama naming Rahm Emmanuel and Bill Daley , both components of the corrupt Chicago machine. Next name to look out for is Patrick Fitzgerald; he is the federal prosecutor who has been indicting and convicting the political criminals in this state. Can almost guarantee that he is not long for that job. One must protect the people who brought you to power.

1. Obama is black AND white – as in a little bit me, a little bit you – so what happened to the term “bi-racial?”
and
2. I haven’t heard any “black folk” giving “white folk” any of the credit for voting for and electing a “black” president.
Just wonderin…

I think what a lot of people on this board don’t understand is that its not about Senator Obama the man, its about what he represents. For many he represents hope for the future.
As a Christian the bible tells me to fear not, to love my neighbor and not to worry about the future for God has a divine plan for us ALL.
I don’t understand the fear and hate in so many peoples hearts towards Senator Obama and his family. Aren’t you all tired of being afraid? Aren’t you tired of being angry? Aren’t you tired of being divided? Disagree, yes, but try to find some compassion in your heart. This is Christ’s true message.

It’s funny how some of you can call yourself Americans while praying that Obama fails. Whether he was your choice or not I feel that it’s our jobs as Americans to get behind our leader and do our part to help make this country better. No leader that we elect will ever be perfect and I think that’s a mistake that people make. No Obama isn’t a Messiah nor is he someone that is trying to ruin the United States of America. From what I’ve heard he’s actually trying to make it better for everyone, not just the rich not just the poor or middle class but everyone. And I personally don’t see anything wrong with that. Maybe some of you have become cynical or are just so filled with hate that you can’t see what’s really important. It’s not about us as individuals but us as a whole. If this one man was able to inspire millions of people to actually get out and vote you have to take notice, think what else he might be able to inspire. How many little kids went to sleep last night and actually thought maybe I can be president or a doctor instead of a rapper or an athlete? How many adults will be inspired to go out and better themselves b/c they see this amazing example of what can happen when you work hard and never give up even in the face of adversity? This man is someone who embodies all of us black, white, latino, rich, poor, whatever. So whatever you’re bitter on angry about just get over it, maybe you need a hug I don’t know.

I don’t think RUSSIA got the memo;
President Dmitri Medvedev took advantage of the euphoria in America today to order the deployment of missiles inside Europe as a response to US plans for a missile defence shield.
Speaking within hours of Barack Obama’s election as the new US President, Mr Medvedev announced that Russia would base Iskander missiles in its Baltic exclave of Kaliningrad next to the border with Poland.
He accused the West of seeking to encircle Russia and blamed the US for encouraging Georgia’s “barbaric aggression” in the war over South Ossetia in August. He issued a warning that Russia would “not back down in the Caucasus”.

“It’s funny how some of you can call yourself Americans while praying that Obama fails.”
Only a fool would hope the leader who represents him/her to the world would fail.
Calling anyone who suggests Obama should be treated the same as any other elected politician a fool is just more devisive name calling.
You are not supporting the President Elect by calling your fellow Americans names.
You are hurting the President Elect and the country by attempting to deepen the political divisions.

Are Obama supporters ok if we McCain supporters give Barack Obama the same chance you gave George W. Bush?
And, for those who wonder why people hate Obama, do you know why you hate Sarah Palin?
Now that Obama has been picking Clinton’s team for his administration, are you beginning to believe you were conned but the smooth talker? Is change and the future, going back to the 1990s?
Once Obama proves what some of us have known, that he is a fraud and all of his campaign rhetoric was just that, will you be willing to admit he had you fooled?
Let’s not kid ourselves, Obama has a lot to prove to those who did not support him. He has to prove to us he is more than just a smooth talking liar who can take multiple positions on any issue. He has to prove to us he is not a Marxist. He has to prove to us that he will honor the constitution and defend this country and not apologize to the rest of the world for our righteous actions. He has to prove to us he will put his country before his party.
I don’t think he will do any of those things. I predict in four years, more of you who supported Obama yesterday will stand along side me when we all show him the door to the White House swings both ways.

For those who fear for President-elect Obama’s safety, some disturbing news:
Newsweek has released highlights of its Special Election Project, which allowed reporters to gather behind-the-scenes information on the presidential campaigns with an agreement that none of their reporting would be published until after Election Day.
The Obama campaign was provided with reports from the Secret Service showing a sharp and very disturbing increase in threats to Obama in September and early October, at the same time that the crowds at Palin rallies became more frenzied.
Bigotry and hate have no place in this country. This election has proven that Obama is supported by people of all races, creeds, beliefs, …….
I believe one of the startling statisics last night was the number of white, educated people who cast their ballots in favor of our new president. Education does make a difference. The more educated, the more advanced are critical thinking and reasoning skills.

I did not vote for Obama but I will now support him in his endeavor to fix our country. As many of you have stated, yes he is NOT a messiah. There is only one Messiah and that is Jesus Christ and he is the one in control of this country, not Obama or any other political person. Nor would have been John McCain had he won. We are to pray for our world leaders and that is what I intend to do. I do feel like this was made into a racial election and that is sad. May it not divide our nation further in the coming days. Although I do not believe in a lot of Obama’s beliefs on major issues, I believe that we need to give him a chance and see what he can do. I do know that a lot of the promises he made to get into office, he will not be able to accomplish. But then what politician has ever really done what they say they are going to do. It is all hupla! God Bless America.

I am indeed filled with great inspiration and pride in my country. I earnestly believe Senator McCain and President Elect Obama in their speaches last night. The campaign was tough and difficult. The people have spoken and Obama humbly accepts the mantle. I believe Senator McCain will be a great help to President Obama, now that he is freed from the radical right wing and can be himself. He will be an independent voice and will challenge Obama to move to the middle, where McCain will greet him. I suspect they will do great things. Only in America. God bless the USA.

What????? I can NOT believe someone would write this….
Obama’s cabinet: Jesse Jackson, Michael Jackson, Louis Farrakhan, and Rev. Wright. Enjoy America. Just so he doesn’t paint The White House a gaudy purple. There’s a reason that it’s called The White House. 1461 days till we vote this monkey out of office!!!!
This statement is almost as bad as the one that stated the world is coming to an end because of Obama is our next President. I am completely amazed at the ignorant narrow-minded remarks…
Look people….Get your head out of you’re a*s and realize that this country was founded on freedom….freedom to be black, white, yellow, or any other color….and the freedom of religion…to believe as you choose….If this world hasn’t came to an end by the turning of the year 2000, by Hitler, or by the Republican Party it sure as he**l won’t come to an end because of an African-White man becoming President. How about being thankful that you live in a country where you can express yourself instead of trying to suppress other people that DO NOT believe as you do. No matter who is President when God decides to bring us home…he’ll do it! So instead of using that energy to convince people “it’s the end of time” and “the monkey out of office” how about you get on your knees and pray for forgiveness because I’m sure God doesn’t want someone like you in heaven with Angels, all the many different colored angles! Go back to that bible and read about how Jesus didn’t mistreat anyone no matter whom they were… I read my bible and I am white and I don’t appreciate these remarks but as I stated before I will contribute them to ignorance. You people probably haven’t even read the Constitution of the United States… NOTICE THE WORD UNITED…..

Does anyone ever wonder why most of the world hates the good old USA? Have you listened to RUSH, or his clones? They spout hate and can’t even tell. They were calling Obama grant part gathering a similar to WWII book burning days.
Enough of the hate….Most Americans have no clue what it is to be BLACK or some other minority and talk like they understand.

I did not vote for Obama because he is black, or because I think he is a Messiah. I voted for hope, for change, for a chance to be better. I would have voted for McCain if he had made a better argument for those things…and I would have been prepared to show HIM the door in 4 years if he’d been elected and not done a good job. We need to back this President and his administration, and we need to be ready to do what we need to do in 4 years if his administration is not successful. Kassam attacks from Gaza continued on Wednesday afternoon with a rocket landing between Sderot and the Sha’ar Hanegev region.

RC, quick reality check. First, if the name and address supplied with a credit, debit, checking account number etc. does not match the bank will refuse the authorization and the money will not be transfered. It is therefore completely reasonable to expect that whatever money is transfered by the banks is actually from the person they claim they are. Most online transactions these days do not store account numbers, as it poses a huge potential security risk for the account holders. This used to be more common, and look how many of those databases used to get hacked or left lying around on a laptop somewhere and all the account information compromised. Second, if even Obama doesn’t really know where the money came from, at least he won’t feel like he owes anyone anything :-)

A Contributer to Obama, pefros, offers:
“You can start with me, Joe the LICENSED
Electrician. (Joe is my middle name)”
God Bless you and all who gave $25, a few hundred or a few thousand through the Internet to Obama as an act of faith in his leadership.
As I said, I am hopeful he turns out to be a brilliant and great President.
God knows this country needs one.
For the sake of my children I hope your faith was justified.
But…. My point stands …. Because of the way former candidate Obama setup his campaign fund raising operations:
I do not know where the vast majority of his fund raising monies came from.
While I am hopeful, I will not deceive myself into believing the Federal Election Commission, or you, or I have a clue as to the true source(s) of the majority of his money.
Your hopes, and my hopes aside, that is a reality.
All of us ignored the money politicians were receiving over the past 15 years and now:

Where politicians are getting their money from is important.

John McCain’s concession speech was gracious and inspiring, the best I’ve ever seen him give. I agree. McCains speech was one of the classiest speeches I have heard. He really showed he was an American, not just a Republican. Posted by: David King | November 5, 2008, 4:12 pm 4:12 pm

For starters, ask not what Obama can do for America, but what America’s journalists can do for Americans. They can stop referring to Obama as a “black” and an “African American” President. George Washington was not called “the first white President.” None of the other Presidents is called a “white” President, although Clinton is sometimes humorously deemed “the first black President.” So Obama being described as a “black President” and “the first African American” President reveals a double standard; it is also discriminatory. How on earth is he “black,” given his “white” mother? What would his mother have thought about her son being called “black? Does this description not exclude her contribution to her child’s identity? Is this not a second implication of racial discrimination? World, wake up and smell logical reasoning! Cease regarding people’s anatomy–their type of reproductive organs and their skin colors–as politically significant. Focus, instead, on their intellect and values–their empathetic disposition, critical thinking skills, and commitment to linguistic clarity and logical consistency. This is what Obama is asking Americans to do for Americans.

Both candidates were so gracious last night, then I come here and read all this hate! Please, take a deep breath and give it a rest. Anyone who was not stirred by both candidates pleas for unity need to go back and listen to BOTH speeches. Our country needs to pull together. I did not support Obama, but I honestly hope that he can do a good job of pulling this country out of the ditch. We all need to do what McCain and Obama both asked us to do, support our next President. There is middle ground and I hope we can all find it!

I actually believed McCain’s speech last night. It came from the heart. If he would have campaigned the same way the outcome may have been different.
What we all need to do now is get behind Obama no matter what our differences and make this country what it once was. I know we can do this because after 9/11 this country stood as one people.

As someone who is biracial I want to thank everyone here who acknowledges that Barack Obama is and was born both Black and White. It is a grave disservice to his mother and grandparents to remove them from his victory and celebration by only recognizing his African heritage. Who he is and the man he’s become is because of the influense of his mother and grandparents.
Today is a new day and a new start for America and it’s time we stopped forcing multiracial Americans to choose a piece of their heritage instead of embracing all facets of it.

A Supporter of former candidate Obama moves into campaign attack mode and spouts facts that are intended to confuse everyone:
“if the name and address supplied with a credit, debit, checking account number etc. does not match the bank will refuse the authorization”
The Washington Post Newspaper, The Obama Campaign, and I all agree with that fact.
But it is totally irrelevant to what the Obama Campaign told the Washington Post they did. With the name and address information associated with the credit card.
The Obama Campaign claimed to the Washington Post that a separate name and address was keyed in as the name and address of the Donner and they did not even attempt to collect the name keyed in to the bank or check if they were the same.
So we are all in agreement on that.
You also wrote “if even Obama doesn’t really know where the money came from”.
Again we agree, “if” is the question here. I will leave it to the educated thinker to answer the question what are the reasons you would design a system where you could deny knowing your donners were violating Federal Election Law.
By the way Federal Election Law makes it a felony for very rich people to give more than a very small amount ( small to them ) to a US politician.
Federal Election Law also makes it a felony for non-US Citizens to give any money to a US politician.
My point here is that we do not know, and may never know, where the vast majority of the money came from because of the system the Obama Campaign created to track the source of the money.
I will not pretend that I do, or the Federal Election Commission does, or you do.
Contrary to the intent of Federal Campaign Finance Law objective information about where money for the Obama campaign came from is not available from the Federal Election Commision. Only the name and address information an anonymous donor on the other end of an internet transaction wanted you to think donated was reported ( in some cases they may even have wanted their own name to be reported).

Posted by: Reality Check | November 5, 2008, 4:39 pm 4:39 pm

A hopeful American and Obama Supporter, Josephine, writes:
“The majority of Obama’s funds were given by ordinary people giving $25, like I did. So that is DEMOCRACY people, that is how it works.”
Maybe. Or Maybe not.
According to what the Obama Campaign told the Washington Post, ( one of the Main Stream Media Newspapers who backed Obama openly) the following is true:
1. Contributions under $200 were not reported to the Federal Election Commission as to who they came from.
Other past democratic campaigns told the Washington Post this last claim by the Obama campaign was not correct – such information was available as part of an internet donation.
4. The Obama campaign indicated to the Washington Post they relied only on the information the individual keyed in on the Internet as to the Name of the Donor, Address, Donor’s employer, etc.

It’s a shame that Republicans are so biased and filled with hate that not one commenter here from the right wing appreciated or noticed Obama’s pick of Napolitano. Fact – polling shows that more Arizonans would have selected Napolitano for President than would support McCain as President. Hmmm…
Obama is trying to reach across the party lines to unite our country, and all you right wingers can do is complain about Obama without any substantiated or viable reason.
I am an ACTUAL conservative (smaller government and no wasteful government spending) and Christian, and I am SICKENED by what the Republican Party represents now. I am a white conservative, and I voted for Obama based on his experience, his policies, his philosophy, his character, and his ability unite as seen throughout his campaign. The GOP needs to clean up its act and end the smear and fear politics that utilise lies in order to push forward a platform of policies that benefit only the wealthy and those who care nothing about our county’s future, and use the ignorant masses to vote against their own interests.

Hey I supported McCain and after both speeches am actually feeling pretty good. People (well, the majority) were REALLY not wanting the republicans, in any way, shape or form, I get it! So be it. Maybe republicans should take some lessons for next round…that’s how it works.
Some of these posts remind me of fans after the Superbowl complaining about bad ref calls. Of course, they are always on the losing side. They sound lame, too.
Both sides fought hard in this campaign, and political campaigns are not flower gardens…Obama’s even was less negative than usual…so cred to him for the most part.
Obama won…and we look silly if we start whining about stealing the election/fraud/funding irregularities (as many dems did even after 2004). Hey, the right abandoned McCain right out of the box, so he got short-changed…not fair? Life’s not fair.
I won’t say, get over it, but McCain is saying, let’s bridge the gap, and encourage cooperation. Will bipartisanship happen? I don’t know.
But at least give the guy the benefit of the doubt before he does something you hate. And comparisons with the Soviet Union and Hitler are…inappropriate and bizarre.
And racist comments are pushing me back over to the dems, so you better watch out, you might make an Obama voter out of me in 2012.

Remaining Republicans and the ‘far right’ will do everything they can to inhibit progress in the Obama administration. I would hope that they would at least wait and see what Obama actually tries to do, but, in my heart I know they won’t.
Republicans are reduced to many states that are sparsely populated. Obama & Dems will have to reach out to ‘them’ but I fear no matter what the Dems say…… it will be a hard sell.
After all this time of ‘demonizing’ Obama, Republicans will not change their tune quickly if at all.
If Obama is able to make a dent in the damage left by Bush & Cheney & Republicans, he will still hear the smears and invective of the far right.
Republicans have been good at winning, but, pretty lousy at actually governing.

Having been involved with both major parties at some point in time, I have to laugh at some of the comments here. Yes, the republicans demonized Obama. Yes, the religious right are over zealous. But I can’t tell you how often I see democrats denigrating republicans and pretending they are better than them somehow because the democratic candidate was a minority. Making blanket statements like ‘all republicans are bigots’ pretty much categorizes you as one.

Posted by: Todd | November 8, 2008, 6:15 am 6:15 am

To all Democrats and Republicans alike. As a conservative white male democrat I have a news flash. There are more white people on welfare in America than African Americans. Ronald Reagan never went to war. Clinton never went to war. This country was founded by lawyers. The US government implemented policies that killed millions of native Americans so that we could enjoy this country without threat. Decades later we killed close to a million of our fellow citizens through civil war. We later killed 100′s of thousands by dropping 2 nuclear bombs on Japan. Since then we have killed and mutilated millions men women and children over the spread of communism, socialism, tyranny and terrorism.
This is not what Jesus Christ had in mind. There are no teachings in the Old or New Testaments, unless your David Koresh, that can morally justify any of these actions. I hope that my God doesn’t sanction any of this insanity. A true conservative looks 300 years in either direction and makes a sound decision for generations to come.
As far as the President is concerned, Teddy Roosevelt said it best;
“The President is merely the most important among a large number of public servants. He should be supported or opposed exactly to the degree which is warranted by his good conduct or bad conduct, his efficiency or inefficiency in rendering loyal, able, and disinterested service to the Nation as a whole. Therefore it is absolutely necessary that there should be full liberty to tell the truth about his acts, and this means that it is exactly necessary to blame him when he does wrong as to praise him when he does right. Any other attitude in an American citizen is both base and servile. To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public. Nothing but the truth should be spoken about him or any one else. But it is even more important to tell the truth, pleasant or unpleasant, about him than about any one else.”
“Roosevelt in the Kansas City Star”, 149
May 7, 1918
Some of your arguments are healthy and worthwhile, but leave God out of it. God would never weigh in on any of this stupidity.

And for those out there who believe that a black president shouldn’t be in the white house…I’ve got news for you.
If you THINK that YOU can do it better, GO AND RUN FOR PRESIDENT.

Hey, THe American public has elected a New President. Move FOrward and get over whatever it is. THis election process happens every four to eight years. When we get tired of one party we elect the other. No big secret. Look at history. I knew whenever these campigns started TWO (uhg) years ago that whoever won the democratic nomination would be our next President.
The President& his Office (mostly)only have the power of persuasion. CONGRESS is Who We NEED TO keep an EYE on. They pack billions of dollar of add ons to every single bill that comes out of there. Guess who pays for all those add ons ? US! I have to tighten my belt to survive! So should our Goverment. If I don’t have the money to spend I don’t spend it. For crying out loud people wake up! All I ask of MY government is to be Honest with us(HA!Like that willever happen) and be mindful of who’s money they are spending.

With so many of the Clinton-era players on this transition team, did we elect change or bringing back the Clintons. So much for fresh faces and new ideas. That’s change we can’t believe in.

I AM ACTUALLY PRIDE TO BE AN AMERICAN ONCE AGAIN. IT IS GREAT TO BE AN OBAMA REPUBLICAN JUST AS IT WAS GREAT TO HAVE THE REAGAN DEMOCRATS.
