President-elect Barack Obama has told Democratic Leader, Harry Reid, that he wants Independent Sen. Joe Lieberman to stay in the Senate Democratic caucus, according to a Senate Democratic leadership source. Obama delivered the message in a phone call to Reid last week. The Lieberman matter will be voted on when Senate Democrats caucus next week. –George Stephanopoulos UPDATE: I asked Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs if Obama thinks Lieberman should retain his committee chairmanship. Gibbs told me, "We aren’t going to referee decisions about who should or should not be a committee chair. President-elect Obama looks forward to working with any one of any party to move the country forward. We’d be happy to have Sen. Lieberman caucus with the Democrats. We don’t hold any grudges."
