Obama Wins PA

This seems to illustrate a few points.

1) Republican attacks on Obama on Wright (aimed at working class whites) and Iran (aimed at Jews) didn’t work. Perhaps the Wright attacks even drove up African-American turnout.

2) Obama picked up most of those Hillary voters that skeptics doubted he could.

3) The campaign of Obama, who left the Keystone State on October 28 and didn’t return, despite McCain and Palin doubling down on the state, was right in his views of what would happen in the state — McCain’s camp was wrong.

People who voted for Obama because of Wright can only be described as racists. Really have to question the loyalty to our country but that is what I expect for the next four years. Also Obama will be President elect and not President of the free world tomorrow.

Posted by: William | November 4, 2008, 8:48 pm 8:48 pm

Anyone who is not concerned over Obama’s 20 year association with Rev. Wright, a vocal racist and anti-American simply has their head in the sand.

Posted by: PN | November 4, 2008, 8:49 pm 8:49 pm

Simple America has changed and there are more good, well meaning people both black and white. There are less racists and more whites are comfortable with black leaders. Simply put, the states that go overwhelmingly for McCain are states where you find the rabid racists..Obama will take california, New york, Ohio, and possibly florida..those are big ones baby! Go Barack! Go! whites, blacks, hispanics, asians, native americans etc will be proud of you as president and I know that you will work hard not to disappoint America..God bless you Barack!

Posted by: Stanley | November 4, 2008, 8:49 pm 8:49 pm

PN, the last time I checked Rev Wright was not running for president. Put down the koolaid and try to enjoy the inaugauration of President Barack Obama.

Posted by: Stanley | November 4, 2008, 8:51 pm 8:51 pm

1% and their calling it? I saw some states with o% and their calling it for Obama. What’s up with that?

Posted by: Scotty | November 4, 2008, 8:52 pm 8:52 pm

So about 1% of votes are in and you’re calling the race? No bias there. Obama may, and probably will, win. But don’t think you’ve legitimately called it here.

Posted by: Jim | November 4, 2008, 8:53 pm 8:53 pm

Republicans voted for who is actually quaified and has the experience to be President. The best person to keep our country safe and that will never be Obama. You may want to remember that next year in the unemployment line.

Posted by: gg | November 4, 2008, 8:54 pm 8:54 pm

Not his biggest supporter but today I cast my vote for Barack, I only hope he follows through on his promises and I hope he uses the talent he has with Hillary and other dems and good republicans.

Posted by: Mike | November 4, 2008, 8:54 pm 8:54 pm

What a bogus driveby analysis! Wright has barely been used, and not at all by the McCain campaign. One group put up a few ads at the last minute and you include it in your analysis. I don’t know if you’re being disingenuous or what. It sounds like you are writing the post you want despite the facts. How can you write “Wright ads weren’t effective” when for there were virtually no Wright ads and none by the campaign.
Here’s an analysis based on the FACTS. McCain lost tonight for two reasons: 1. the economy and 2. George W. Bush.

Posted by: Stevereno | November 4, 2008, 8:54 pm 8:54 pm

Scotty, Its called exit polls..they usually are right on the money..because people are always forthcoming on who they voted for. You want McCain to win! McCain is a socialist..ha ha ha!

Posted by: Stanley | November 4, 2008, 8:55 pm 8:55 pm

Its Obama’s socialist ideas that i can’t agree with, yes he is black, but that means nothing except to people who want to play the race card!! such as someone who would comment by saying “Simply put, the states that go overwhelmingly for McCain are states where you find the rabid racists..” i live in arkansas, and went to a school where i was one of 5 white kids, race means nothing, except to closet racist such as the person in the quote

I think you are wrong. I think that whites, hispanics, blacks, asians and all of the U.S. recognize the freedom of religion AND we detest any and all attempts by the right-wing hypocrites to belittle our faiths. Blacks down have a stronghold on outspoken churches.
Blasphemous crap like calling Obama “Messiah” brought it home for us. Colin Powell also made a point of saying that it was wrong for the GOP to try to defame all Muslims as terrorists people.
Not all whites are hypocrites, ya know?!

Isn’t it GREAT to see an average American really make it big. Obama was raised by his single-mother with the help of his grandparents. He worked Hard, got a good education, and turned down large sums of money to go to work for the average American. What a great story. He raised his large sums of money for his campaign, not thru big corporate donors like many others, but thru average Americans giving $10 or $20 at a time. I suspect he is going to go down in history as one of the great presidents of all time. Obama will be Great in 2008!!!.

As an Australian with US citizenship I can only hope that a change in government at multiple levels will result in a change in American government attitutes, the country needs to look after itself, stop spreading itself so thin around the globe and protect its own people. Bush failed during Katrina, lied about WMD and his fellow Republicans (and some Democrats) fostered the environment that allowed the financial collapse. Lets hope the “change” really occurs.

Virginia’s margin is closing. It’s down to only 1% 50 mccain to 49% obama.
It seems they counted ‘real’ Virginians first — McCain had a double digit lead then. But now the rest of the state is showing how ‘real’ they are and the realness of their votes, too. :-)

well said. i totally agree. if he wins, which looks to be the case, i will support him. im not in here to play games about why mccain lost or why he shouldnt have. truth is, that it should have never been a close race from the start, so its not shocking. under any other normal circumstances, i would say good. good for the republicans to get their butts kicjked so it makes them do a reality check, but not this time. there was too much at stake with this one. a guy with very little experience, and what little he does have proves extremely liberal. today was a historic day for the history of the world. mark my words. people wanted change, well change is definately what wewill get.

Let us all unite. It’s over. When Bush won in 2000 and 2004, I was immensely disappointed but I accepted him as my Commander in Chief and supported the invasion of Iraq and just kept working hard. I was immensely moved by Bush right after 9/11 and wanted him to succeed in going after Al Qaeda. I stood by my President even though I couldn’t stand the guy before the elections. Please, Republicans, stand by your new President and let’s make America great again!

It looks like a great night for America – for Americans of all persuasions.
The Republican right wing who held power in the White House are now gone, rightfully booted out by the ELECTORATE.
The Democrats will now rightfully have their chance to help guide the country.
It isn’t an easy situation – the economy has been terribly damaged, but none the less . .. the fight is ahead and must be faced.
Let’s hope Senator Obama keeps to his promises on alternative energy research and jobs, alternative automobile research and cars, better health care for more people.
And let’s support those things as best we can.
It’s a great night for America and for the planet!

As an Obama supporter, I am not brainwashed. I recognize that he has fualts just like the rest of us. However, he offers an opportunity to take us in a different direction. Fact is the ‘wandering’ we’ve been doing under Bush is tiring. We need chnage. Any change rather than staying on the same path when that’s proven not to work. Do not compare him to Hitler becuase Obama has not excluded a race. He has helped unite most minorities which is what the republicans should have attempted to do instead of looking for the “real” Amercians.

Obama has been talking about the issues since the primaries ended.Unlike McCain who has been doing nothing but negative campaigning. If you don’t know where he stands on things then you deserve to vote for McCain and lose.

its not win or lose, its about who will lead the country, this is not a petty game to be won

Nobody said it was a game. People decided that Obama would do a better job.
IF McCain would have run a better camapaign and actually talked about issues it might have been him winning tonight. He didn’t do what he needed to do. People did not want a 3rd Bush term and that is exactly what McCain is.

Charlie,
He didn’t tell us how he was different from Bush. There were alot of voters that McCain could have snagged and he blew it.

If you could comprehend what I said, I didn’t say it was a game. Spin it how you want.
What I meant, and you obviously didn’t get it, was that you did not do your homework on both candidates like most of us did, otherwise you would know what he stands for. I looked at both candidates and I like most, not all of Obama’s ideas.

Let’s all do the best we can to make this a better country and a better world.
You people here who have nothing to offer but negativity should consider trying to find something positive to do.
