Obama’s National Security Team to be Named Monday
ABC News can report that on Monday morning in Chicago, President-elect Obama will officially announce some key members of his national security team, many of whom will be in attendance.
Pending Senate confirmation, the President-elect’s national security team will include: Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., who will serve as Secretary of State in his administration; Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano who will be Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security; attorney Eric Holder, Attorney General; Retired Marine General Jim Jones, National Security Adviser; retired Adm. Dennis Blair, Director of National Intelligence; Susan Rice, Ambassador to the United Nations; and Defense Secretary Robert Gates, who will stay on in that role for at least a year.
These announcements were scheduled before the terror attacks in Mumbai, India, but obviously recent developments have given the announcements some added resonance.

UPDATE: A positive review from retiring Sen. John Warner, R-Va., a former Republican chairman and 30-year veteran of the Senate Armed Services Committee: "The triumvirate of Gates, Clinton and Jones to lead Obama’s ‘national security team’ instills great confidence at home and abroad; and further strengthens the growing respect for the president-elect’s courage and ability to exercise sound judgment in selecting the ‘best and the brightest’ to implement our nation’s security policies."

Some people will go to their grave unsatisfied with the best possible. I am NOT one of them. I voted for Obama because IMO he is the BEST qualifed to handle a crisis and what our country needs to unify and defeat terrorism around the world. Already Al Q is shaking in their boots – because of his name alone.
The man isn’t a genuis for nothing – 170 IQ – a spine of steel, and a heart of compassion and good intentions – that’s enough alone, but even chooses the best and brightest (and bravest) to serve by his side.
Nothing worth having comes easy and this country has a fight ahead to ward off the dark days. I am happy for our candle in the dark – Pres.-elect Obama.

Not a liberal or progressive in the bunch, including Obama.
New or creative ideas never come from the center. They come from either the left or the right. This is a Cabinet chock full of stale and stagnant ideas and theories.

jan—wasn’t Barack Obama rated the “most liberal senator” in the Senate? Hillary Clinton a conservative? all we hear or read is about Obama’s liberalism. but i somwhat agree with you, good ideas can come from the left or the right. and we have seen what the right can do in 8 years. now it’s pleasnat the left bring a new and fresh approach. but seriously President-Elect Obama is putting a bipatrisan team together so he can maked informed decisions, not be told what to do by a war criminal (Cheney).

What position is Bill Ayers being offered ? How come the “Messiah” is giving a speech about every other day (from the non-existent “Office Of The President Elect”) in which he says, as he had a habit of doing during the campaign, nothing ?

I’m heartened our 44th President seems to be on it, not like the current incumbent.
He actually seems to be running the show. We were foreshadowed about the efficiency of his administration from the way they ran such an organized campaign that had no infighting and hardly any leaks.

Ron,
In case you missed the memo, Obama and Biden have said, “Ayers will not work in our White House.”
Non-existent office? Haha! It’s called the transition, maybe. Since Bush has been mum about Mumbai and the economic crisis, obviously Obama has to say something then as the next president.

Independant Woman, you are entertaining. You claimed, “Already Al Q is shaking in their boots – because of his name alone.” Seriously? You think Barack Obama instills fear in Al Quaeda? On what, pray tell, do you base this fanciful notion?
Then you go on to gush: “The man isn’t a genuis for nothing – 170 IQ – a spine of steel, and a heart of compassion and good intentions – that’s enough alone, but even chooses the best and brightest (and bravest) to serve by his side.”
Oh, my gracious. Yes, the president-elect is an intelligent man with good intentions, but I do want to know where so many get their notion that he is a genius. Perhaps he is, but perhaps he is merely extremely bright. You claim he has a 170 IQ– on what do you this base this? Obama never releases much information on himself and I’ve never seen anywhere that he states, or anyone else states, what his IQ is. I know that Don Imus gave Michael Bechloss a lot of grief for gushing over the man’s genius, only to have to admit he had no idea what Obama’s IQ might be.
Besides, being a genius is not all it’s cracked up to be. There’s such things as emotional intelligence, common sense, good judgment that are equally important. After all, I’m a genius and you wouldn’t want me running the country, now would you?
I do agree that the man is making some good picks for his cabinet. I hope that this proves to be equally true of the crucial lower-level administrative positions, as well as the showy top jobs. The foreign policy team seems to be a strong one, with experience and talent. It is a good sign that he has the good sense to pick excellent people to work with. (Not sure what’s particularly “brave” about them, but that’s okay. I’m certain that Hillary is brave enough, as Obama would say.)

Posted by: CarolinaGirl | November 29, 2008, 9:28 pm 9:28 pm
I would agree with Independant Woman, actually.
Al-Qaeda thrives on using the same old divide and conquer tactics and scaremongering. They need to portray America as a large, looming, huge and terrible enemy. They like to use the history of racism and paint all Americans with one brush to fit the colonialist and imperialistic image they have of America as a plunderer and bully, someone with whom differences are irreconcilable.
Obama is black, he had a Muslim father and his middle name is “Hussein”- a Middle-Eastern name. Al-Qaeda’s message does lose some of its punch, and his assertions about America being a ” virulently racist” country somehow don’t quite match up when that country’s head-of-state is a black man.
We have much further to go to eradicate the terrorist threat, and we should not also squander the enormous goodwill and hope the world has for us with Obama’s election.

There goes the (neighborhood) presidency! This has got to be the dumbest move anyone could have ever made. You may as well offer Bill Clinton the position as well (two-for-one).
Moreover, what experience does Hilary have as an envoy, a foreign minister. Please, will someone give Obama the smelling salts so that he can wake up.
I have always been an admirer of real politik of realism.
Also, all you “changers” out there. . . What can I say. You got screwed. This move is not one of change; it is one of uncertainty and unwillingness to make bold decisive moves. It is one of weakness and lack of power and resolution.
In the end, his presidency will be one of wavering, waffling, indecisiveness, and weakness.
For example, why does he have to put together an economic team. I thought he was capable of getting the problems resolved himself, with his knowledge and genius. All I would need is a formidable economics professor from MIT or Chicago or even a state college, the vice president and myself. I would not have to resort to all these “great minds.” In the end, the whole thing will end up in a campaign of bickering, finger-pointing, and ego maniacs trying to out-do each other, especially with Hilary and her spouse, Bill.
What a mess, and what a lack of formidable leadership skills.
Obama is not an economist, is not a businessman, and is not a capitalist. He is just a community organizer and an opportunist who never paid his dues.
I am leaving this nation come 20 January 2009. I leave it to all you fools who voted for the man.

Back again. Mr. Obama (our future president) has to realize that this economic mess derives from the many stupid decisions that previous administrations made, such as the going of the gold standard (Nixon), the ridding of the Glassman-Steagel Act (Bill Clinton), the fixing of prices (Nixon), the failure to halt the spread of American defiance (Carter), the deregulation and rampant growth (Reagan), and lowering of interests rates to avoid the “real” collapse of the economy after 9/11 (Greenspan), the lack of a detailed monitoring of the economy (US Congress/Bush). In the end, it is not just a problem that began with the mortgage industry. It began in 1971/1972 — more than 35 years.
It will take that many to fix the economy.

Don’t worry! I made mine, big time, and I’ve already exchanged them to Euros and gold. You think 2008 was bad, wait until 2009. You cannot believe how many more people are about to lose their homes just in California alone, and California’s budget problems now will pale in comparison to those in 2009. I remember that 1969 was a formidable year in the USA. 2009 will be even more formidable, but not in a good way.
Mr. Obama lacks the economic savvy and courage to make the ideal moves, the moves that will really create the advertised “change” he promulgated in those standing room-only arenas.
Also, the terrorist will make some bold moves this next year, and who knows what that will create.

Posted by: sisterdearest09 | November 30, 2008, 12:03 am 12:03 am
I am first and foremost a Machiavellian, by nature and reason, and also an Adam Smithian, and Alfred Marshallian, and a devotee of science and reason. And no, I am not a proponent of President George W. Bush’s presidency; I am well aware that he erred in many points of his eight year tenure. However, the move against Saddam was there for the taking, and I am glad we went in so that our presence could create a wedge between Iran and Syria. However, the installation of Brenner and the ideas of Wolfowitz and Pearl (who are now no-where-to-be-found) truly screwed things up.
And further, President George W. Bush entered the White House those eight years ago with no clear cut agenda. His agenda was laid out for him on 11 September 2001 by nineteen terrorists who with commercial airliners created havoc.
His presidency lacked intelligence, direction, and proper personnel. Look at Katrina and New Orleans, just to name one domestic mess.
I am after all an American, and as an American, I am a purist, circa. 1787, if you know what I mean.
Yet, we lack true, sober leadership; we need it now more than ever.
Posted by: lavampire | November 30, 2008, 12:04 am 12:04 am
Moreover, in terms of numerology Mr. Obama is a 2, which implies:
The Life Path 2 suggests that you entered this plane with a spiritual quality in your makeup allowing you to be one of the peacemakers in society. Your strengths come from an ability to listen and absorb. You are a fixer, a mediator, and a very diplomatic type of person using persuasive skills rather than forcefulness to make your way in the world. When you embrace and exhibit the strenghth of your spiritual side, you are intuitive, avant-garde, idealistic, and visionary. These extremes make you interesting with much to offer society. You have the potential to be a deep-thinker, and no doubt interested in understanding many of life’s mysteries and more intriguing facets.
I am not sure if we need a spiritual leader at this time or a visionary or a deep-thinker (that is, a philosopher). I am not sure that we voted for the right number. Perhaps a 1 or 6 would have been better.

It is not a surprise that people are critizing Obama and declaring his incompetence before he even takes office. It happens every election by republicans, democrats or independents. I just don’t understand why these people disrepect our consitution and our founding fathers. They want to give the citizens of this country the right to elect who they thought was best. The loser accept the decision of the people and the opponents would work together for a smooth transtition. Americans that truely believe that this is the best form of government on earth should stop the crap at this point and start supporting both the President and President-Elect. It is time we start pulling our country together to help bring our country out of these major problems. These are not problems that half the country can solve. It will take all of us several years to recover from these problems. Be Americans the founders can be proud of.

Prior to December 15, Barack Obama is technically known as the “President-designate”. Yes, I know, that sounds more like the Vice-President’s role if the President gets too plastered to govern. Oh well.
Speaking about heavy consumption of alcoholic beverage, December 15th is the day the electors for Obama get good and hammerred and then mumble to themselves something like. “God forgive me for what I am about to do”, and then cast their ballots for the one.
The electors then slowly go mad. It’s an American tradition, and really quite beautiful in a Norman Rockwell on acid sort of way.

QUOTE FROM A MAJOR NEWS SOURCE: It wasn’t too long ago that Barack Obama and his advisers were tripping over one another to tear down Hillary Rodham Clinton’s foreign policy credentials. She was dismissed as a commander in chief wanna-be who did little more than sip tea and make small talk with foreign leaders during her days as first lady. “What exactly is this foreign policy experience?” Obama said mockingly of the New York senator. “Was she negotiating treaties? Was she handling crises? The answer is no.” SO HE HAS NOW NAMED HER AS HIS SECRETARY OF STATE – NOW THERE IS “CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN”. Obama is a typical, double talking empty suit that black folks voted for because he is black and younger white folks voted for because of their ignorance of government, economy, foreign policy OR wanted a “savior” to fix their self indulgence of too much credit card debt, too many car loans, buying a house they could not afford, etc.

The inclusion of Clinton with these serious people makes a farce of the appointments.
And what about an appointment of the head of the CIA. Is that not included in security?
They actually have come out with some good intelligence on Mumbai.

Is this the same Hillary that Obama mocked 6 months ago asking what exact foreign policy experience she was talking about. Is this the same women who claimed to help in the North Ireland Peace process but was lying. Or the same women who lied about sniper fire, or the same women who voted for the war.
Hillary is a total joke, being first lady and drinking tea with the other spouses of leaders does not qualify you for anything, let alone Secretary of State. Maybe Secretary but thats it.
Come on Messiah, you can do better then this!

Obama WAS elected to be our next President by a substantial majority, lotzahair… and with well-respected Republicans like John Warner praising his choices to head-up national security, I think it’s about time for folks like you to give it a rest.

I hate to break the news to the genius bloggers. The war won’t end anytime soon. Obama is the twin brother of George, seperated at birth.
Secretary of Defense = war. Secretary of the Tresury = Wall Street/Federal Reserve. The philosophy of Obama is the same as Bush at the core.
Take a peek at the money supply since september. First 200 years is a nice incline slope. Sept to now, straight up. More money printed then in the first 200 years. The new Treasury secretary is a supporter of the system that got us here. Read about hyper-inflation in pre-WWII Germany. Wait til they get the banks lending again.
The federal reserve must go. It is a system made up of a few private banks to benefit a few ultra-wealthy people at the demise of the middle and lower class.
Obama’s choice supports this system. You can dream about change, we all do….the only thing that will change is a pretty white dress on a stinkin’ corpse.
I wish I could say Obama would fix the system. His choice has proven otherwise. Buy food you’ll need it in the next 3 years. The market will probably rise due to the influx of worthless paper money…then collaspe like a stone in a pond. Embrace financially made slavery.

I am less concerned with who Obama picks for his team than I am about the soon to be president. During the Barbara Walters interview it is clear that Obama has developed a facial tick (under right eye). This is concerning if our president to be is already showing signs that stress is having such a big impact on him BEFORE he takes on the responsibilities of the office. The press did the American people a big disservice by not investigating Obama mental makeup during the campaign basically giving him a pass on everything – now we as Americans can only hope that it does not lead to a presidesnt that is incapacitated by the stress of the job.
Posted by: Fred | November 30, 2008, 9:58 am 9:58 am
fred,
if george bush has not done anything mental yet, after all that he has done,
i don’t think we have to worry about obama’ mental state.
it should be bush people are watching.
Posted by: sugar | November 30, 2008, 11:23 am 11:23 am
sugar, Bush isn’t the one showing physical signs of stress such as developing facial ticks. Bush has many faults to be sure, however, the fact that Obama has already shown signs of poor stress management is very concerning. The inability to manage stress can lead to depression and other negative psychological manifestations. All of this before Obama even takes office. What happens if we are hit by the terrorist again? What if Russia attacks the Ukraine or attempts to take over Georgia again? What if Iran explodes a nuclear bomb over Israel or Israel attacks Iran before they can? What is the economic crisis worsens and there is a steady outcry by the American people? Can Obama deal with these and other challenges effectively or will he crumble under the pressure? The facial tick is a clear indication that there is reason to doubt that Mr. Obama is up to the task. If the man cannot manage stress before he even assumes the duties of the office I think we as Americans are rightfully concerned. The presidency is not a place for someone who is wobbly. We should be vigilant.

fred,”the presidency is no place for someone who is wobbly.
well we and he george WWWobbly bush
is still here, (barely, but present)
you should look at david letterman top ten bush moments, and tell me if that is not physical strain.
also, to look at someone, and see one of their eyes jumping, call it a tick,
and then jump to say they are unfit to serve, after geo. Wobbly bush.
is really stretching it a bit.
i mean if you were watching him on tv, did you hear anything that he said?
lets give the man a chance, beside right now thanks to geo Wobbly bush
obama is really being looked to and having to do two jobs right now, be president, and get ready to be president.
geo Wobbly bush has already checked out.
when obama starts sounding like he is going to make some decisions like bush has made, then i will call him stressed and crazy, until then,…. I mean who know, maybe he has had that “tick” all along, and you just didn’t look close enough before.

fred,
what if?
what if mccain were going to be president with all of your what if?
the world would come to an end.
what if:
geo bush were in for four more years.
what if;
sarah palin were a heartbeat away from the presidency?
what if we arm chair psy. just sit back and let obama do his job, leave the ticks to the medical doctors around him.
we should have been more vigilant with bush in office, rather than just roll over and let him and co. put us in a trance.
and now after all the damage we are all waking up and saying the new guy is not fit, because he has a “tick?”
we have survived geo Wobbly bush
we will make it with tick obama.

MikeMo1947 — Thanks for the clarification. I was not aware that the title had been sanctioned for use before the EC meets.
lavampire — “CalifGirlInMaine — can you elaborate with regard to your claim about the electoral college — what are you proposing? That the EC will not vote for him?”
I’m not proposing anything. I do have in mind that Obama is most likely not a “natural-born” citizen — regardless of where he was born, the fact that he had dual citizenship at birth (which he has admitted) makes him not a natural-born citizen, under accepted common-law definitions and the intent of the Framers of the Constitution. To be fair, John McCain may also not be natural-born citizen, depending on Panamanian law (if Panama considered him a citizen because he was born on their soil).
If the Constitution still means anything, if the Supreme Court justices uphold it as they are sworn to do and do not cave, if the Electors do their job properly and do not vote for one who is not qualified under the Constitution, etc., Obama will not be elected by the EC on Dec. 15. What are the odds that he won’t be elected? I wouldn’t bet on it. What I would like to know is, why a “constitutional law scholar” like Obama (which he is reputed to be) ran for an office for which he is not qualified?

cali in maine,
get back to the sun,
you must be having cabin fever up there.
so it should be seen that obama would not run for office if he were not qualified. so he must be qualified.
so according to you obama nor mccain should be president. what about palin?
should alaska count? if hawaii does not.
in your estimation, who should be president?
if we all could concentrate on trying to do some good, and get this country off it’ knees, rather than lending our brain power to this conspiracy, gotcha kind of stuff. wow, in four years we as a nation could be back on top again.
(if that is where we belong, and it seem our friends is the rest of the world want us there)
lets try and get on with doing the good,
it is time to let goodness reign in this country again, instead of the hate, and bad from the last eight years.
let goodness reign again in america.

Sugar, your “what if” scenarios can’t happen because Obama won the election. But since he won the election we, the American people, have a right to question whether he is up to the job. I would imagine Putin is laughing himself silly at the thought of Obama developing a nervous tick when he hasn’t even been tested yet. Is he going to pee his pants if Putin tries to put nukes in Venezuela or Cuba? If nothing else, Obama should be smart enough to seek medical help so he doesn’t portray weakness to those who are waiting to jump on any chance to stick it to America. America does not need a president who has a nervous tick that telegraphs his own self doubt.
You also have to wonder if what we are seeing with Obama’s nerves is something that runs in his family. Both his mother and father died relatively young, in fact, neither were much older than Mr. Obama is now when they passed. His father died at 46 in a car crash that may well have involved alcohol (he was known to be an alcoholic). His mother died at 53 from cancer, which puts Mr. Obama’s smoking in perspective. Self destructive behavior and cancer are both more prevalent in people who fail to respond to stress in an effective manner.
Mr. Obama’s outwardly controlled manner combined with an uncontrollable facial tick to me indicates he struggles with stress and is compensating. I hope I am wrong but I have seen friends in my own life that go through this same balancing act. In the end it usually ends badly when the stress becomes too high.

It’s not going to matter who sit’s in the seat. They are supporting a financial system that is geared to make you and I poor and them rich.
The federal reserve must end! It is a group of private banks designed to scoop up your money and make you poor.
Obama has proven he’s part of the same system your arch enemy George Bush supported. He has choosen the president of the federal reserve as treasury secretary. He is paying back the wealthy that bought his power. Obama and Bush are twins!!!

CalifGirlInMaine,
There you go again! Don’t you know that the Constitution doesn’t mean anything when it would prevent Democrats from doing whatever they want?
I think it is clear that Obama is not a “Natural Born Citizen”. He refuses to hand over his birth certificate, he refuses to release his college records, he refuses to release his full health care record, he refuses to answer how he was able to travel to Pakistan when the US government had banned travel at the time, and he refuses to address any questions on when he stopped doing drugs (he has admitted using drugs in his “youth”). Kinda makes picking a National Security team a little bit more important when you have to be concerned that any one of them could discover things about the commander in chief that he simply does not want to be found.

sugar, what I wrote is not my opinion, has nothing to do with my state of mind or location. I am simply reporting fact.
As for why Obama would run for an office he is not qualified for — only he knows that, we can only speculate. He has lied and distorted the truth and obfuscated many times, he is not trustworthy. (“Not trustworthy” is my opinion; the lies etc. are fact, comparing his words with reality.) You may dispute this, but consider only the latest: Obama and his campaign people claimed that half of their financing was raised by donations from people who donated less than $200. In reality, only about a quarter of his financing came from these small donors, about the same as Bush.

cali in maine,
what i know for sure, is obama is not geo. bush, and that is a good change for us.
bush and co. lied, and lied, and lied,
and we as a country are still here.
i think we can take obama.
i cannot blame the people who say obama is not trustworthy, especially since many of them voted for bush.
i would be afraid to trust myself with voting if i had supported bush also.
after bush, why would bush supporters have a reason to trust politicians again?
for those that do not trust obama. for things such as rick or fred wrote,
because he has a tick in his eye or any other reason, just take a sit back and wait attitude. and see what the young man can do.
we all laid down for bush and co. and let them roll all over us.
like it or not obama now has his chance to get us out of this ditch bush has dug us in or mire us further down.
i will be hopeful and say obama compared to bush.
obama will take the lead and help us get out of the ditch.

Facts about Obama and whether he is qualified to be President: First, there is no evidence that indicates that he was not born in Hawaii. Our legal system is designed to prevent citizens from being accused of something that there is no evidence. That is why every court this has been taken to, has dismissed it. Second, do you really think that the Hawaii dept of records is able to out smart our intelligence groups and all the special investigators hired by Obama’s opponents. If Hawaii does not have legitimate records of his birth, some opponent would have leaked it before the election? Third, who has the least political power during the campaign, Obama, Clintons, McCain, President Bush or our Federal Courts? Obama had the least connections and power. He had no way to prevent the other four groups from finding out the truth. Finally, if you know he cannot legally be president, then you must have evidence that you have been hiding because no one has been able to show any evidence that birth in Hawaii might not be true. Speculation and evidence are not the same thing.

Challenge to the contention that Obama lied and therefore is not trustworthy. Name people who have been elected president that did not lie during the campaign and/or did not break campaign promises. Secondly, whining by the losers happens everytime we have a presidental election. I am tired of the whining whether it is republicans, democrats or independents. Our nation’s founders set up election of our officials this way. If you don’t like it then start critizing Washington, Adams, Jefferson and all the others. If you are a true American, you would accept the election outcome and support a smooth transfer of power during these dangerous times. It is time to quit whining about Bush and Obama and pull together to get out of the current crisis that face our nation and the world.

MikeMo1947: “Facts about Obama and whether he is qualified to be President: First, there is no evidence that indicates that he was not born in Hawaii. Our legal system is designed to prevent citizens from being accused of something that there is no evidence.”
If you were referring to my post, please read it again. I stated that REGARDLESS of where he was born, he is not a natural born citizen because at birth he had dual citizenship. This is not speculation, Obama himself admitted that he was a British subject/Kenyan citizen at birth, by virtue of his father’s status, and his Kenyan citizenship expired when he turned 18. A “natural-born” citizen is one who is a citizen by birth AND owes allegiance to ONLY ONE nation, and has NEVER owed allegiance to another nation. Obama does not fulfill this requirement, as evidenced BY HIS OWN WORDS. No speculation, no accusations, just simple fact.
If Obama is qualified to be President under the Constitution, I would accept his election as lawful and the will of the people. I have not been happy with the “will of the people” many times in the past, but the elections were lawful and I accepted them. However, the fact that Obama is not qualified, makes him a usurper and I cannot accept that. I cannot accept that the Constitution is ignored, as it is the foundation of our country. Whether or not Obama’s election is the “will of the people” is beside the issue. He is NOT qualified, never was, and never will be under the Constitution. If the people don’t like that, then the Constitution needs to be amended. However, it cannot be amended retroactively, and Obama’s inclusion on the ballot was illegal.
The problem is, there is no one agency or organization charged with vetting the Presidential candidates. The DNC should have ensured he was qualified; the Secretaries of State of the various states should have certified his eligibility; the Electors of the Electoral College should; but it doesn’t happen. For example, Roger Calero was included on the New Jersey ballot as the presidential candidate for the Socialist Workers Party. Mr. Calero was born in Nicaraugua, his parents were Nicaraguan citizens, and he holds a green card as a permanent legal resident. He is not even a naturalized citizen, yet he got onto the ballot! If something this egregious can happen, then someone like Obama can easily slip under the radar.
The head of Hawaii’s Dept. of Health has not stated that Obama was born in Hawaii, only that they have a birth certificate on file. Hawaii allowed the registration of foreign births in the early 60′s, so the fact that they have Obama’s BC means nothing. By law, I am sure they are prohibited from revealing its contents, anyway, and any employee who “leaked” the BC would be fired. I don’t believe there’s any way an opponent or investigator could access the record on their own, short of breaking and entering, I suppose.
As far as Obama having the least power of all the candidates, how do you figure that?
Posted by: CalifGirlInMaine | November 30, 2008, 7:32 pm 7:32 pm
CalifGirlInMaine – You made assumptions that are not true. You said “Obama himself admitted that he was a British subject/Kenyan citizen at birth, by virtue of his father’s status, and his Kenyan citizenship expired when he turned 18.” Then you said “A “natural-born” citizen is one who is a citizen by birth AND owes allegiance to ONLY ONE nation, and has NEVER owed allegiance to another nation.” There is a major legal difference in what those two statments say. Admitting that you have citizenship by virtue of your father is not the same as owing allegiance to another country. He never gave his allegiance to another country. Most countries give you until 18 to decide who you make your allegiance to. He was a natural born citizen from the start and gave his allegiance to any country other than the United States. If your interpretation of those phrases is correct, then it does not matter if Obama delivers his birth certificate or not. So way do they keep bringing up his birth certificate?
What is your background that you understand the Consitution and the legal meaning of words more than all the judges that have thrown out the lawsuit about Obama’s citizenship?
If you think Obama and the Hawaiian dept of records are so powerful that the Clintons, McCains, the President of the U.S., and Federal courts could not find the truth, then you are pretty naive. Even the White House has leaks, but you think Hawaii dept or records has perfect security that prevents all these people from knowing the truth.
Your comment about Roger Calero can be easily explained by common sense, something government doesn’t always use. No one bothered to challenge him because no one really thought he had a chance. So they ignore it and they saved time and money in challenging him. The decision actually saved the taxpayer some money. Something else that government does always do.
Posted by: MikeMo1947 | November 30, 2008, 8:30 pm 8:30 pm
MikeMo1947, I don’t claim to understand the Constitution etc. more than the judges, but I do know how to read, research, and understand what I read. The cases that were thrown out were asking for access to the birth certificate, not dealing with Obama’s overall qualifications. The case that is scheduled for conference on 12/5 by SCOTUS deals with the question of qualification and eligibility; Justice Thomas, at least, believes the case has enough merit to take it to conference, a level which many cases do not reach.
Citizenship and owing allegiance go hand in hand; if not, then wouldn’t even a native-born or natural-born citizen have to make an oath of allegiance upon becoming an adult? We don’t, however — because as native/natural-born citizens, we automatically owe our allegiance to the nation of citizenship. This is accepted common law, as stated by Justice Noah Haynes Swayne in 1866, among others:
“All persons born in the Allegiance of the King are Natural- Born Subjects, and all persons born in the Allegiance of the United States are Natural-Born Citizens. Birth and Allegiance go together. Such is the Rule of the Common Law, and it is the Common Law of this country…since as before the Revolution.”
Whether or not Obama ever took an oath of allegiance to Kenya, he was a citizen of Kenya by virtue of his father’s citizenship, and therefore subject to their jurisdiction until it expired.
As for why so many keep harping on the birth certificate, I couldn’t say. You’d have to ask them. There are questions of whether Obama was actually born in Hawaii, compounded by his grandmother’s statement that she was present at his birth in Kenya, and the Kenyan Ambassador’s statement that his birthplace in Kenya is well-known. If Obama was born in Hawaii, why doesn’t he just release the BC, as John McCain did when his citizenship was questioned? Not releasing it, and his other records, makes it look like he has something to hide, whether he does or not.
I know that the Federal courts could get the BC if they requested it — but as you stated, the cases asking for it have been thrown out, so far. As for the Clintons, McCains, and so forth, maybe they could get to the BC, and maybe they haven’t tried, I don’t know. I only know those who have tried to get it have been unsuccessful.
I don’t buy your argument about Calero being allowed on the ballot because they didn’t think he could win, and therefore the NJ Secy of State saved time and money by not vetting him. Check the Alan Keyes case in Calif. It cites 2 instances when the CA Secy of State did not certify 3rd party presidential candidates because they did not qualify. One was Eldridge Cleaver in 1968, who did not meet the age requirement (only 34 yrs old). The other was Larry Holmes, the Peace and Freedom candidate in 1984, who also did not meet the age requirement. The state Secy’s of State have the responsibility of certifying candidates’ eligibility; if they do not, they are not complying with the duties of their office, and could be liable to legal action.
If you think these statements have no merit, do your own research and find contradiction from reliable authorities. The latter does not include FactCheck, Snopes, Wikipedia, and such.
Posted by: CalifGirlInMaine | November 30, 2008, 11:39 pm 11:39 pm
CalifGirlInMaine – I have already research all the areas you have referred to and have been following this since it was first brought up. About the birth certificate, you said “I only know those who have tried to get it have been unsuccessful.” How do you know they have been unsuccessful? Sometimes silence means that they don’t want to admit that their opponent is correct or that they took the time to investigate and found they had wasted resources tracking down a rumor that was not true. The only way you could know that no one was successful is if they all reported to you. Campaigns and government agencies are not required to report their findings if they found nothing suspicious?
What kind of power did Obama have over the Hawaii dept of records during the past year that prevented them from reporting a problem with his birth certificate? Don’t they have any responsibility to report a problem if there is a legal issue? What would happen to their jobs and reputation if they and the Hawaii sec. of state have been hiding this information?
I gave my common sense opinion about Calero being allowed on the ballot. Did you prove me wrong when you said that it is the responsibility of the state’s sec. of state? I don’t think so. Who is on the ballad is decided state by state. So how many sec. of states challenged it and how many did not because it was a waste of time and money? Since these sec. of states report to their governors, why didn’t they tell them to take the time and money to challenge Calero. Who has responsibility and common practice in dealing with these responsibilities are not always the same.
You quote a justice in 1866 about what common law says about natural born citizen. I don’t know if this judge was overruled or not, but I know a lot of things have changed about what common law he was referring to and it’s importants to current laws. Many of our laws came out of common law, but most have been revised or further explained by our court system. Some rulings of justices of 1866 (civil war era)have changed since then, especially when it comes to words that have no precise definition was written for words like “natural born”. Court cases consistently come up about the true meaning of many statements in our Bill of Rights, such as right to bear arms, freedom of speech, and freedom of religion.
The problem as I see it, is that you take isolated pieces of information that fits your theory and make them more important than they really are and ignore everything else. There is virtually no chance that Obama can preventing anyone from finding out about whether he is qualified to be president or not for this long a period when there was at least a 50-50 chance that he was going to be president.
Finally, I want to give you a wholehearted compliment. You are one of the few people on these blogs that uses facts and logic in stating your view. Too many people resort to name calling. My perception on this issue could be wrong just as yours may be wrong. So thanks for the discussion. I will let you have the last say if you like. I think we are both firm in our positions and probably won’t convince each other and that is fine among Americans. You may have the final word on this topic if you like. I think it is time for me to move on to other things in life.

MikeMo1947, I’ll let you have the final say — as you stated, we’re not going to convince the other, and you may be right and I wrong. At least maybe we’ve given others something to think about and piqued their curiosity enough to research on their own. I just hope there is a final, definitive answer one way or another.
Thank you for the compliment. I feel name-calling is useless, just demonstrates that one has a weak position or weak intellect. I’d much rather have a reasonable discussion with someone who differs from my opinions, like you — it sharpens the mind and could provide compelling evidence against my opinions. Thanks for the discussion!

US Supreme court cases against Obama and Alan Keyes lawsuit
Posted by: Nurse76 | December 1, 2008, 5:59 pm 5:59 pm
–It matters not what happened in the past, I submit, because all that happened has happened and no individual/court has challenged any previous Presidential candidate. The Constitution as amended is the Law of the United States of America. I submit any candidate can be challenged for eligibility…see United States Constitution–Amendment 10. The Supreme Court Of The United States(SCOTUS) has, in my opinion, two options; 1) Send it back to lower court based on the 10th Amendment, or, 2) Immediately schedule and hear case based on Constitutional crisis if allowed to go beyond the Electoral College. Should the SCOTUS decide BOH is not “natural born” the SCOTUS should advise the college. Either way the next President of the United Sates will be Barach Hussein Obama or Joe Biden as directed by the 20th Amendment. I am conservative but believe in the laws of this land as our founding fathers so wisely put into words. The actual “Certification” of Live birth must be the determining factor if BOH is to be named President…If not this country will be in a crisis and not because of any riot. The Constitution of this country is the Law of the Land.

If Hillary does become the Secretary of State, it going to be a big mess. Also, it going to cause some personality conflict problem between three of them, Obama, Hillary, and Bill Clinton. Obama doesn’t have foreign policy so as Bill Clinton did he became President in 1993. This is going to be the Democrats’ problem.
