Obama’s Top Picks for Treasury Secretary

There are two top candidates for Secretary of Treasury right now, which may be one of the first appointments that President-elect Barack Obama makes. One is Larry Summers who served as Treasury Secretary for President Clinton before becoming president of Harvard. Also Tim Geithner, who has been central during this financial crisis. He’s the president of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. He’s been talked about as a leading candidate. One candidate who is more of a long shot is the former Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker, who is a close adviser to Obama. He’s likely to continue to be a top adviser but the two top candidates right now are Geithner and Summers. –George Stephanopoulos

We have not forgotten Larry Summers’ 2005 Harvard address, which claimed that by “intrinsic aptitude” women were inferior to men, which has proven not to be true. Obama, I voted for you, but disagree on your choice of Summers. Hope you think hard about putting men like him in any position of power.

Stay in China. Don’t bother coming back. We don’t need you or want ‘unAmericans’ like you. You’ve got an attitude that will only impede your progress toward personal development. Too bad.

I think Warren Buffet may also be a likely candidate for Treasury. I think Senator Richard Lugar (R-Indiana) will be our next Secretary of State.

The sad and pathetic part of these comments is that the radicals on this board from both parties didn’t listen to a word the new President said. Republicans-Obama won, the country is a mess, let’s rebuild it together. Democrats-the Republicans spent 8 years tearing up the Democrats, look where it got the GOP. Obama won, McCain and he are going to work together, its time for the party slamming to stop.

re: Larry Summers: “…. why there were more men than women in high-end science and engineering positions. He suggested one such possible reason could be men’s higher variance in relevant innate abilities or innate preference.”
I DON’T THINK SO!

How refreshing to think that appointmnents will be based on knowledge and competency and not on political ties. Thank God that America will finally change direction and try to regain its place in the world as a beacon of hope and excellence.

I know tonight is an emotional time. I am still up trying to come to terms with an Obama Presidency. However, its not a time to be name-calling like 3rd graders. Bush wasn’t a Republican in the way he governed…he allowed government to grow too large. The party name has suffered for it. Now we have Democratic control and like it or not, the people have spoken. I hope they do well though I disagree with them. If they don’t do well, the first chance to communicate that will be in 2010. 2012 will offer the chance to change the White House back. Until then, I am hoping Obama does a better job of uniting than Presidents of the past 20 years have done. I don’t agree with him but I must respect the Presidency. I was so angered by Democrats who refused to respect Bush when disagreeing with him. I will not be a hypocrit and do the same by disrespecting Obama. Where I can agree with him, I will support him. Where I cannot I will respectfully disagree. We have to be bigger than the disrespectful tone that is on this board. Don’t respond with emotion. Let’s be of sound mind and act like adults.

Well … the US have (again) done something to be genuinely proud of.
Apart from electing the candidate who has the better policies, they elected a Black candidate, thereby underlining that, whatever its faults the US *will* provide opportunities for those who are up to it.
What would the chances be of a Black candidate being elected President of France eh? Or Chancellor of Germany?
This is precisely why the US leads the Western world.

Sorry to burst your bubble folks, but both Obama and McCain are controlled by the same people, the global elites and world bankers. So you will see the same result which is the destruction of the Constitution and American sovereignty and a globally run economy. Your real wages will continue to drop and inflation and taxes will increase to a point where your standard of living is barely above poverty. Meanwhile the big brother control grid will be deployed with cameras on every street corner as in NY and the UK. And Obama’s 4 million strong youth brigade will be patrolling the streets along side your military to seek and destroy “terrorists”. These terrorists are anyone who dissents from government policy which could be you. Your Constitutional rights will be eliminated. The bankers will continue to fleece you like they did with the bail out scam. The drug makers will continue to poison you but this time with immunity from lawsuits. They will be brewing up all sorts of concoctions to be injected into your bodies. The government will mandate that you be injected with these deadly vaccines. And lest not forget the government will force you to live a certain lifestyle tailored to their wants and needs. You will have more freedoms. Everything will be a privilege granted to you including the right to travel freely within the U.S. Your right to breathe will be taxed via the carbon credit scam. That will be your life in America folks, being nothing but a minion slave to the corporate elites, which is not a whole lot different than it is now.

Posted by: Felicity | November 5, 2008, 4:30 am 4:30 am

Let me correct a typo in my last post. You will have NO more freedoms. You will be granted privileges by your government. It will be a permission based society not too different than it is now.

Let’s hope Obama opens up the investigation of 9/11 so they can bring Bush and Cheney to justice before they leave the country. For those who have been asleep the last 7 years, 9/11 was an inside job false flag attack. Google “False Flag 9/11″ if you don’t know what that is.

Perhaps I’m wrong, (and my vote and expectations today tend to indicate the possibility), but I don’t think the Obama presidency will be flush with old Clintonistas. I think they will be shut out completely. I’m thinking lots of big ivy league brains from the academe. I would advise Pres.-elect Obama to make a clean break with Chicago and turn to new and capable men and women with no baggage or links to the Chicago machine. Cut the strings immediately or it will get quite messy right away. It will be very interesting and I’m counting on unexpected decisions. (I vote for Summers. Krugman would be a hoot). Pass the popcorn.

Hey Bah….Got a Question for you, could anyone have done a better job over tse last 8 yrs after within the 1st yr of let’s say your presidency we were attacked by terrorists???? and what did you expect us to do just stand by and go, go ahead and kick us while we are down no we had to stand up and show the world that we were not going to be pushed around.
So lets look at the financial debacle…
hmmm
WE THE PEOPLE NEED TO TAKE SOME OF THE RESPONSIBILITY for that,
we ran this country with the equity in our homes over the last 5-7 yrs by taking the equity out and buying big ticket items to keep this ecomony going, only to go back out and run the debt we paid off right back up. It is not just Wall Street, not just Washington, DC but It is Main Streets fault to.
Govt Handouts o from where borrowed money from China nad Russia it needs to stop and we need to take care of our own! So MacCain wanted to tax health benifits, that is change that needs to happen NO MORE FREE LUNCHES would that have raised revenue to help others by not raising taxes possibly…The cost oeverything is going up and if there is a way to raise capital in a way that doesnt affect us we never saw the money for our health benifits anyway so what difference does ot make if they tax it we, it is an accounting trick show it one place and take it away somewhere else.

As George Bush has learned you cannot just talk your way through the Presidency, you have to actually DO and what you DO will come home to roost in ways you may not like at all.
The American solution? Elect a much better talker who doesn’t DO much at all EXCEPT talk and vote “Present” rather than show true self, at least so far. Well, the “new guy’s” shadow ride is over now and he will have to fish or cut bait and the spotlight is on and there are no shadows to hide in anymore.
You gotta show us what you REALLY got now, Mr President-elect, talk time and shadow positioning are over.
Happy Trails OR Crash and Burn. . . .Your Choice, Your Consequences.

jtd: It is people like you that provide me blessed assurance that although the next 4 yrs will be very painful, it is necessary to help re-focus good Americans on what is really important… so then we can prune the dead branches off the tree of liberty. You liberal elitists with your “open” minds, who preach diversity of thought for everyone (but conservatives of course), may have won this battle but you will lose the war. Who is the racist; the one who votes their convictions regardless of skin color or the one who votes for skin color regardless of convictions? You have turned MLK’s ideas on its ear. Enjoy it, because it won’t last very long.

Freemort sez: “I’ll be giving every bit of respect to Obama as you’ve given to the current President, and not one bit more.”
Even if he earns it, unlike the current President?

Posted by: Zod | November 5, 2008, 1:27 pm 1:27 pm

My definition of earning respect might be different than yours. Mine doesn’t include:
- using (un)Fairness Doctrine to kill off what little access there is left to conservative opinions.
- defining babies who are born alive and can live on their own as fetuses so they can be killed.
- voting to take needed resources away from our military to fight wars they are currently engaged in.
- talking in private about banrupting the coal industry while publically pretending something else to get votes.
- prolonging the recession by spreading the wealth around and impacting small business’s ability to grow.
- breaking every law/rule in the Democrat primary to defeat Senator Clinton and as shown is a recent documentary created by a Democrat Hollywood filmmaker about the rampant corrupt practices used by the Obama machine.
- being party to, and helping finance a corrupt official in Kenya who is responsible for thousands of deaths from political retribution and then hiding his responsibility. (Google: Odinga BBC) Our press hid this nicely.
- I could go on and on and on…
You’re obviously naive and ignorant of who this man really is. I hope you aren’t too disappointed when you finally find out.

Why not Colin Powell for Sec of State. Maybe he could now carry out the job he was derailed from being able to carry out.

Posted by: scott marikis | November 5, 2008, 6:38 pm 6:38 pm

Apparently none of you above listened to Obama speak last night. He at least, recognized that just under 1/2 the country voted against him…no mandate, no landslide. The test will be puting together a government that matches the vote…not just paying off debts (like past Democrat and Republican winners). He has the greatest opportunity in decades to show his integrity…that he is first and foremost an American and not just another party follower. We can stand on the sidelines and throw rocks from either side or we can do like Joe Lieberman and Pete Hoekstra and stand with integrity. It’s time to quit spewing the party line on both sides. It hasn’t ever worked and it never will. Sending the attack dogs out because you have the power will only make the divide greater and payback will come back…it always does. Do I believe that Obama has all the answers and all the integrity? Not anymore than I believe George Bush did. But Republican or Democrat, we need to give him the opportunity to succeed because it is the right thing to do for our country. If he screws it up, it should be his own fault, not a bunch of party arrogance.

“Periodically, Barack will feel down and start launching attacks against women (by appointing misogynists like former ballet dancers Mr. Emanuel and Larry Summers) to boost his appeal”…

Alice Palmer had her election stolen by The Annointed Messia in Chicago in ’96. Then he stole the nomination from his worthier female opponent Sen. Clinton. Obama’s foreign relations experience consists of a trip to Pakistan with his “well built” Pakistani former N.Y. roommate” and 4 years in Indonesia in public school.. Before his prep school in Hawaii where he excelled in refined elitist powder testing escapades. Wonder if he’ll order “Arugula to go. It’s kind of bitter. To your guest who called Lawrence Summers’ comment about women just ‘silly’ and to be forgotten: would Lawrence Summers be hired by Mr. Obama if instead Mr. Summers had made the following public comment while being president of a top university: ‘due to an innate difference in brain capabilities, people of African descent are not capable of attaining equal achievements in science, math and engineering’ ?

I hope that if Obama picks Larry Summers, that the horrendous comments that Larry Summers made will be brought to light, profusely apologized for, and hopefully put to rest.
The Stephanopolous show today swept them under the rug, which was not at all appreciated. Saying that because we’re in a crisis we can ignore past “theoretical” comments is just like Bush saying that because we’re in a crisis we can ignore the constitution.
