Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., wrapped up his three-rally Sunshine state Sunday swing through with a rally tonight in Daytona Beach, Fla., on the eastern edge of the fabled I-4 Corridor, a town where he apparently spent some time as a college student.
"Folks, there’s two days to go and here in Daytona Beach, the first town I ever visited when I was a young college kid in Florida on spring break," recalled the loquacious Blue Hen, leading to loud laughs from the crowd of 1,500.
"Oh gosh, thank goodness no photographs," said the garrulous Veep-wanna-be.
"It’s good to be back here in Daytona, in a town that knows a little bit about NASCAR racing," the Democratic vice presidential nominee continued, just 48 hours before Election Day. "I think the metaphor may be we just turned the home stretch and we can see the checkered flag, folks!"
The I-4 Corridor, which stretches from Tampa/St. Petersburg on the West coast of the state, through Orlando, ending in Daytona, is where statewide races in the state are fought. It is the home of swing voters.
"I love it when John and Gov. Palin call themselves mavericks," Biden said with a chuckle. "Oh, I love it man."
Biden then launched into his imitation of the Republican ticket.
"’How you doing, maverick?’
"’We’re the maverick twins!’" Biden said.
Now that Biden can no longer use his dig that Americans aren’t buying McCain’s "agent of change" costume for Halloween, the Delaware lawmaker moved onto another holiday.
"Well ladies and gentlemen, ladies and gentlemen, even Santa Claus knows that’s make-believe!"
