I used to support Sen. Obama, but the Obama campaign continues to waste our time on non-issues and fake-controversies generated by their campaign with the cooperation of their pet mainstream-media. They said Gov. Palin was stoking hate in the crowds as if it was fact when in fact, after SS investigation, the “kill him” allegation was a fabrication, generated by the mainstream-media and the Obama campaign. They said in a single voice Gov. Palin was stupid and corrupt, and they “validated” that by citing reputable conservatives making that argument, except they take their quotes out of context, when one said “the mainstream media makes her out to be stupid and corrupt.” They said, in a single voice, that Sarah Palin’s wardrobe is too expensive, when it is revealed, all politicians do that so they have something expensive and high-profile to auction off for top dollar to charities. They know that, they just rather generate false controversies and run out the clock nursing their lead than to talk about the real issues: i.e. Sen. Obama criticizing our Constitution because it is restrictive in nauture and didn’t mandate distribution of weath (quote). Sen. Obama saying the Warren court wasn’t radical enough for him. Him toasting Rashid Khalidi, yes, the Palestinian terrorist. His accepting tens of millions of dollars in campaign contributions from the likes of Hamas, posing as small donors under $200, of course. What deal have you struck with Hamas already, Sen. Obama? they rather make stuff up about Sen. McCain and Gov. Palin than to address the real issues of our day.

I feel ya. It is not fair to pile on something that is not under Gov Palin’s control. But the more I think about that call, the more revealing I think it is. The issue is not that she would fall for it (since it was specifically not her who fell for it but rather the person who picked up) but I’m just unimpressed by the manner she carried on the conversation. Forgive me, but she seemed star-stricken and not one bit presidential. She did not say a single substantive thing throughout the call that one would expect from a head of state.

I agree, she came off woefully unprofessional, not something I would expect from a VP. She sounded like a super fan hearing from her favorite star.
I wasn’t bothered by her lack of knowledge about who some of the people were that were supposedly his advisors and such. I’d lay odds that a lot of pols wouldn’t know the insiders in many heads of states’ offices. That would be something to be gone over in greater detail after the VP was elected. I expect her to know the heads of state by now for many countries, but not their staffs.
It’s just the cutesy demeanor she exhibited. I’d never talk to one of my clients that way, no matter how long I had known and dealt with them.
I still don’t think it’s a big deal. It won’t change my mind or her supporters’ minds. That’s OK. She’s human and believed her staff. Bad on the staff. She could have been more professional and I would have felt more sorry for her had she been.
I thought it was funny, but only because I do appreciate a good practical joke. I’ve been punked before and am still razzed about one 20+ years later, no sense in not laughing at yourself.

I’ve had prank calls twice, and both times as soon as I became suspicious I asked questions to test the caller. Once I got mad and blurted out “who is this really”, but the other time I decided to play along and spoof the caller, and we both eventually had a good laugh about it. The point is, Palin didn’t pick up on any of the clues that were being dropped that it was a spoof. She may be able to spout right wing talking points, but she isn’t able to think critically.

I can’t believe I read this article. It almost seems made up. For one, it seems the call should have been taken initially by a representative of the McCain campaign for security reasons, unless I’m unaware of this point. I thought legitimate people rarely called presidential or vice presidential candidates directly, just like legitimate people wouldn’t call the President of the United States directly. Second, the “I can see Belgium from my house” line should have signalled a red flag to Gov. Palin that the call wasn’t legit. The real President Sarkozy lives in Paris, just like the President of the United States lives in Washington, D.C., and Paris is nowhere near the Belgian border even though Belgium is a neighboring country. Should McCain win, if the future Vice President of the United States is this gullible, we’re in trouble.

As for all of the socialism vs capitalism stuff: Clearly the answer is a hybrid of both. The devil in the details is how to do it. We already have numerous forms of socialistic aspects of our society: post office, police dept, fire dept, paramedics, property taxes to fund schools, social security, etc etc. These things work fairly well.
As for capitalism: clearly it is ia great system, but we need to legislate against greed and agree that NOT everything is a commodity. Health care should not be a commodity as those who “sell” it have the conflict of interest where they profit from denying care. That is where the problem is.
The second thing to realize is that there is no such thing as a “free market” when companies are subsidized through various means, particularly taxes, leases, etc etc. Why are profits privaitzed, but losses are socialized? See bail out.

Thanks citizen in Fl: I think that we all have conservative and liberal parts to us. I dont have a problem with conservatism as it has some good ideas in principle. But the modern GOP is out of bounds. All of their talk about small government has led to the biggest spending in history. Dept of Homeland Security is a joke and totally superflous. Personally, I like the fiscal policies of Ron Paul, but the GOP laughs at him. He might get the last laugh.

I think that everybody here owes it to him or herself to study our country’s very first election: the election of 1800 where Adams beat Jefferson. Back then, the second place in votes got the VP. This is chronicled very well in “John Adams” by D. McCollough, a Pullitzer Prize book. I think we will not only learn about how nasty this election was, but also about how the political parties were formulated. Remember that Washington was not in any political party and actually thought they were destructive in nature. It is a tale told of grand history with love, sorrow, and challenge and superb wisdom form some of the greatest leaders we have ever seen. Adams was selfless. I read John Adams, among many many many more books of our nation’s founding and have ever more been so grateful that the blowhards such as john Adams had someone to counter their oppressive tendencies such as Thomas Jefferson. He was paranoid and controlling and during Shay’s Rebellion he wanted to execute all those who took part and John Adams made it ILLEGAL to critisize the government or to gather together to critisize it with the ALien and SEdition Acts. A MOST UNAMERICAN piece of legislation. JOhn Adams was notoriously accused of being a monarchist which this act supports. He didn’t want a government of or by the people (Thomas Jeffersons’ words) he wanted a government or and for HIM and those like minded as him. To equate Obama with Hitler is deeply paranoid and nonsensical. If there is a party of war, then that party is the Republican Party. Thousands of soldiers and innocent civilians, including children, have died in the war in Iraq.
It was an unnecessary war which has cost us trillions of dollars (yes — cost *us*, the taxpayers) and it has led to increased recruitment for Al Queda. It’s easy for them to recruit young people to their cause when the USA is occupying another country. They love the Republicans because the Republicans make the world hate us, and that makes it easier for them to get young people on their side. Bush fell into Osama Bin Laden’s plan perfectly.
Jesus was on the side of peace and neighborly love. Jesus believed in looking after the poor and infirm. Jesus would never have been a Republican, not the way the Republican party is now. Most likely, he would be above politics, recognizing that “we are all God’s children.”
Having said that though, we have separation of church and state in this country, and Obama will win on the issues, and on the strength of his character.

In her game-changing convention speech, Sarah Palin took a swipe at Obama for having been nothing more in his life than a ‘community organiser’.
This prompted the Obama campaign to issue a pained defence of community organisation as a way of promoting social change ‘from the bottom up’. The impression is that community organising is a worthy if woolly and ultimately ineffectual grassroots activity. This is to miss something of the greatest importance: that in the world of Barack Obama, community organisers are a key strategy in a different game altogether; and the name of that game is revolutionary Marxism.
The seditious role of the community organiser was developed by an extreme left intellectual called Saul Alinsky. He was a radical Chicago activist who, by the time he died in 1972, had had a profound influence on the highest levels of the Democratic party. Alinsky was a ‘transformational Marxist’ in the mould of Antonio Gramsci, who promoted the strategy of a ‘long march through the institutions’ by capturing the culture and turning it inside out as the most effective means of overturning western society. In similar vein, Alinsky condemned the New Left for alienating the general public by its demonstrations and outlandish appearance. The revolution had to be carried out through stealth and deception. Its proponents had to cultivate an image of centrism and pragmatism. A master of infiltration, Alinsky wooed Chicago mobsters and Wall Street financiers alike. And successive Democratic politicians fell under his spell.
His creed was set out in his book ‘Rules for Radicals’ – a book he dedicated to Lucifer, whom he called the ‘first radical’. It was Alinsky for whom ‘change’ was his mantra. And by ‘change’, he meant a Marxist revolution achieved by slow, incremental, Machiavellian means which turned society inside out. This had to be done through systematic deception, winning the trust of the naively idealistic middle class by using the language of morality to conceal an agenda designed to destroy it. And the way to do this, he said, was through ‘people’s organisations’.
Community organisers would mobilise direct action by the oppressed masses against their capitalist oppressors. In FrontPageMagazine.Com John Perazzo writes:
These People’s Organizations were to be composed largely of discontented individuals who believed that society was replete with injustices that prevented them from being able to live satisfying lives. Such organizations, Alinsky advised, should not be imported from the outside into a community, but rather should be staffed by locals who, with some guidance from trained radical organizers, could set their own agendas.
The installment of local leaders as the top-level officers of People’s Organizations helped give the organizations credibility and authenticity in the eyes of the community. This tactic closely paralleled the longtime Communist Party strategy of creating front organizations that ostensibly were led by non-communist fellow-travelers, but which were in fact controlled by Party members behind the scenes…
Alinsky viewed as supremely important the role of the organizer, or master manipulator, whose guidance was responsible for setting the agendas of the People’s Organization… Alinsky laid out a set of basic principles to guide the actions and decisions of radical organizers and the People’s Organizations they established. The organizer, he said, ‘must first rub raw the resentments of the people; fan the latent hostilities to the point of overt expression. He must search out controversy and issues, rather than avoid them, for unless there is controversy people are not concerned enough to act.’[40] The organizer’s function, he added, was ‘to agitate to the point of conflict’[41] and ‘to maneuver and bait the establishment so that it will publicly attack him as a “dangerous enemy.” ‘[42] ‘The word ‘enemy,’ said Alinsky, ‘is sufficient to put the organizer on the side of the people’;[43] i.e., to convince members of the community that he is so eager to advocate on their behalf, that he has willingly opened himself up to condemnation and derision.
Obama’s connection with Alinsky, whom he never met but whom he reportedly idolised, was through two bodies promoting the Alinsky model of community organisation, ACORN and the Gamaliel Foundation. John Perazzo again:
Obama was trained by the Alinsky-founded Industrial Areas Foundation (IAF) in Chicago and worked for an affiliate of the Gamaliel Foundation, whose modus operandi for the creation of ‘a more just and democratic society’ is rooted firmly in the Alinsky method. As The Nation magazine puts it, ‘Obama worked in the organizing tradition of Saul Alinsky, who made Chicago the birthplace of modern community organizing…’ In fact, for several years Obama himself taught workshops on the Alinsky method.
But Obama brought a special slant to Alinsky’s radicalism.Far from being – as he has been painted – a ‘post-racial’ politician, Obama’s politics are all about promoting the cause of black people and achieving ‘reparations’ from white society (a perspective through which his whole welfare redistribution agenda is framed). Accordingly, he saw his three-year role as a community organiser in Chicago as mobilising black people for action against their white oppressors. Finding himself hampered in creating an activist network among black churches, he decided to join such a church to give himself more credibility. That’s why he joined the infamous black-power Trinity Church of Christ – a move, it seems, that had less to do with any spiritual quest than as a radical tactic for mobilising the black proletariat.
According to Stanley Kurtz in National Review (subscription required), as a trainer for Gamaliel and ACORN Obama used his influence to secure a major increase in funding for both groups. Kurtz writes of Gamaliel, one of the least known yet most influential national umbrella groups for church-based community organizers:
Gamaliel specializes in ideological stealth, and Obama, a master student of Gamaliel strategy, shows disturbing signs of being a sub rosa radical himself. Obama’s legislative tactics, as well as his persistent professions of non-ideological pragmatism, appear to be inspired by his radical mentors’ most sophisticated tactics. Not only has Obama studied, taught, and apparently absorbed stealth techniques from radical groups like Gamaliel and ACORN, but in his position as a board member of Chicago’s supposedly nonpartisan Woods Fund, he quietly funneled money to his radical allies — at the very moment he most needed their support to boost his political career.
Kurtz also quotes Rutgers political scientist Heidi Swarts who, in her book Organizing Urban America: Secular and Faith-based Progressive Movements, lays out the strategy of stealth:
Swarts calls groups like ACORN and (especially) Gamaliel ‘invisible actors,’ hidden from public view because they often prefer to downplay their efforts, because they work locally, and because scholars and journalists pay greater attention to movements with national profiles (like the Sierra Club or the Christian Coalition). Congregation-based community organizations like Gamaliel, by contrast, are often invisible even at the local level. A newspaper might report on a demonstration led by a local minister or priest, for example, without noticing that the clergyman in question is part of the Gamaliel network. ‘Though often hidden from view,’ says Swarts, ‘leaders have intentionally and strategically organized these movements that appear to well up and erupt from below.’
Although Gamaliel and ACORN have significantly different tactics and styles, Swarts notes that their political goals and ideologies are broadly similar. Both groups press the state for economic redistribution. The tactics of Gamaliel and ACORN have been shaped in a ‘post-Alinsky’ era of welfare reform and conservative resurgence, posing a severe challenge to those who wish to expand the welfare state. The answer these activists have hit upon, says Swarts, is to work incrementally in urban areas, while deliberately downplaying the far-Left ideology that stands behind their carefully targeted campaigns.
To avoid seeming like radicals or ‘hippies left over from the sixties,’ Gamaliel organizers are careful to wear conventional clothing and conduct themselves with dignity, even formality. Since liberal social movements tend to come off as naïve and idealistic, Gamaliel organizers make a point of presenting their ideas as practical, pragmatic, and down-to-earth. When no one else is listening, Gamaliel organizers may rail at ‘racism,’ ‘sexism,’ and ‘oppressive corporate systems,’ but when speaking to their blue-collar followers, they describe their plans as ‘common sense solutions for working families.’
If anyone should doubt Obama’s debt to Saul Alinsky, they might ponder this encomium from no less an authority than Alinsky’s own son. In a letter to the Boston Globe, L. David Alinsky wrote of his father’s influence at the Democratic Convention:
All the elements were present: the individual stories told by real people of their situation and hardships, the packed-to-the rafters crowd, the crowd’s chanting of key phrases and names, the action on the spot of texting and phoning to show instant support and commitment to jump into the political battle, the rallying selections of music, the setting of the agenda by the power people.
Barack Obama’s training in Chicago by the great community organizers is showing its effectiveness. It is an amazingly powerful format, and the method of my late father always works to get the message out and get the supporters on board. When executed meticulously and thoughtfully, it is a powerful strategy for initiating change and making it really happen. Obama learned his lesson well.
Obama’s questionable links to various radicals are now well-known: the black power racists Rev. Jeremiah Wright and Fr. Michael Pfleger, the former Weather Underground terrorism supporters Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dorn. On CNN’s Glenn Beck show a few days ago Jerome Corsi, author of Obama Nation, observed:
Obama began his career, his coming out party in 1995, and Ayers and Bernadine Dorn’s home. And then for, you know, some 20 years, Obama has been working with Ayers, certainly since 1995, on a series of foundations: the Annenberg Foundation and the Woods Foundation. The boards of directors together, or in the Annenberg Foundation, Ayers created it, and Obama was on it. And together they spent the money of these foundations to implement their radical socialist agenda.

Prescription drug benefits: Prior to this reform, Medicare paid for extended hospital stays for ulcer surgery, for example, at a cost of about $28,000 per patient. Yet Medicare would not pay for the drugs that eliminate the cause of most ulcers, drugs that cost about $500 a year. Now, drug coverage under Medicare will allow seniors to replace more expensive surgeries and hospitalizations with less expensive prescription medicine.
More health care choices: As President Bush stated, “…when seniors have the ability to make choices, health care plans within Medicare will have to compete for their business by offering higher quality service [at lower cost]. For the seniors of America, more choices and more control will mean better health care. These are the kinds of health care options we give to the members of Congress and federal employees. What’s good for members of Congress is also good for seniors.
New Health Savings Accounts: Effective January 1, 2004, Americans can set aside up to $4,500 every year, tax free, to save for medical expenses. Depending on your tax bracket, that means you’ll save between 10 to 35 percent on any costs covered by money in your account. Every year, the money not spent would stay in the account and gain interest tax-free, just like an IRA. These accounts will be good for small business owners, and employees. More businesses can focus on covering workers for major medical problems, such as hospitalization for an injury or illness. At the same time, employees and their families will use these accounts to cover doctors visits, or lab tests, or other smaller costs. Some employers will contribute to employee health accounts. This will help more American families get the health care they need at the price they can afford.
Homeland Security, Border Enforcement & Immigration

Has CONSTRUCTION in process on the first 10 ABM silos in Alaska so that America will have a defense against North Korean nukes. Before DHS was created, there were inspectors from three different agencies of the Federal Government and Border Patrol officers protecting our borders. Through DHS, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) now consolidates all border activities into a single agency to create “one face at the border.” This not only better secures the borders of the United States, but it also eliminates many of the inefficiencies that occurred under the old system. With over 18,000 CBP inspectors and 11,000 Border Patrol agents, CBP has 29,000 uniformed officers on our borders. 5. The Border Patrol is continuing installation of monitoring devices along the borders to detect illegal activity. 6. Launched Operation Tarmac to investigate businesses and workers in the secure areas of domestic airports and ensure immigration law compliance. Since 9/11, DHS has audited 3,640 businesses, examined 259,037 employee records, arrested 1,030 unauthorized workers, and participated in the criminal indictment of 774 individuals. 7. Since September 11, 2001, the Coast Guard has conducted more than 124,000 port security patrols, 13,000 air patrols, boarded more than 92,000 vessels, interdicted over 14,000 individuals attempting to enter the United States illegally, and created and maintained more than 90 Maritime Security Zones. 8. Announced the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), an internet-based system that is improving America’s ability to track and monitor foreign students and exchange visitors. Over 870,000 students are registered in SEVIS. Of 285 completed field investigations, 71 aliens were arrested. 9. This week, the US-VISIT program began to digitally collect biometric identifiers to record the entry and exit of aliens who travel into the U.S on a visa. Together with the standard information, this new program will confirm compliance with visa and immigration policies. 10. Eliminated INS bureaucratic redundancies and lack of accountability. 11. Split the Immigration and Naturalization Service into two agencies: one to protect the border and interior, the other to deal with naturalization. 12. Signed the workplace verification bill to prevent hiring of illegal aliens. 13. Established a six-month deadline for processing immigration applications. 14. Information regarding nearly 100% of all containerized cargo is carefully screened by DHS before it arrives in the United States. Higher risk shipments are physically inspected for terrorist weapons and contraband prior to being released from the port of entry. Advanced technologies are being deployed to identify warning signs of chemical, biological, or radiological attacks. Since September 11, 2001, hundreds of thousands of first responders across America have been trained to recognize and respond to the effects of a WMD attack.
