Palin Urges GOP Governors To Lead Party

ABC News’ Imtiyaz Delawala Reports: In her first public speech since she and her running mate Sen. John McCain conceded the 2008 presidential election, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin expressed disappointment in the 2008 election results. But she urged her fellow Republican governors to help lead the party back by challenging an all-Democratic leadership in Washington through implementing conservative policies in their own states.

“Of course there was disappointment. You run to win,” Palin said of the election before a panel this morning at the Republican Governors Association’s (RGA) annual meeting in Miami, Florida. “But for us, it was not our time, it was not our moment. But it is our country, and the winner will be our president, and I wish Barack Obama well as the 44th president of the United States.”

While Palin was often an attack dog on the campaign trail questioning President-Elect Obama’s readiness to be president, she praised Obama’s potential today.

“If he governs with the skill and the grace and the greatness of which he is capable, we’re gonna be just fine,” Palin said. "And as he prepares to fill the office of Washington and Lincoln, know that this is a shining moment in American history."

Palin was the featured speaker before the RGA’s morning panel entitled, “Looking Toward the Future,” which featured Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R-MN), Gov. Mark Sanford (R-SC), Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN), General Tommy Franks, and conservative columnist Bill Kristol.

After widespread Republican losses across the country, Palin urged her party not to become negative, saying they should challenge Democrats in Washington on issues such as energy and health care policy through effective reform efforts in their own states.

“So now with recent elections wrapped up, yup, on the federal level we are now the minority party," Palin said. "But let us resolve not to become the negative party, too eager to find fault or unwilling to help in this time of crisis and war."

“Losing an election does not have to mean losing our way," Palin added. "And for governors, the way forward leads through our own state capitals, in reforms that we will carry on or begin anew. And I promise you, Americans will be looking to their governors for reactions, for stepped-up leadership, and for our ability to unite and to progress."

Palin dismissed speculation about her own political future — with many now believing she will be a top candidate for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination.

"Let the pundits go on with their idle talk about the next election, what happens in 2012," Palin said. "Our concern should be about our state’s next great reform, our next budget, our next opportunity to progress in the states that we serve."

Palin joked about the whirlwind she has been swept up into in recent months, as she went from an obscure state governor to the national political stage through her selection as the Republican vice presidential nominee.

“Honored to be here, get to speak with and to my fellow governors,” Palin said. “It hasn’t been that long I think since we all gathered, but I don’t know about you, but I managed to fill up the time.”

“Let’s see, I had a baby, I did some traveling. I very briefly expanded my wardrobe,” Palin jokingly added, referring to the flap over the $150,000 in clothes purchased for Palin and her family for the campaign trail. “I made a few speeches, met a few VIPs, including those who really impact society like Tina Fey. Aside from that, it was pretty much same old, same old.”

While her running mate Sen. John McCain did not make a public appearance for a week after Election Day, Palin has been on a media blitz in the last week.

Palin spoke twice with reporters in Phoenix the day after the Republican ticket’s loss, and twice more in the days after her return to Alaska. Since Monday, Palin has participated in four national television interviews, answering the charges of anonymous critics of her role in the campaign, while hinting at her own future in national politics.

Before the panel, Palin participated in a press conference with her fellow Republican governors, giving brief remarks and answering four questions. Media interest has remained high in Palin’s future – she has been swarmed by cameras in her two days in Miami, and her remarks at the RGA conference were aired live by all three cable news networks.

When asked how she would use the “political celebrity” she’s gained since being named the Republican vice presidential nominee, Palin again dismissed questions about the campaign and her own future plans, and reiterated that she will focus on her work as Alaska governor.

“As far as we’re concerned, the past is the past, it’s behind us," Palin said at the press conference. "And I, like all of our governors, we’re focused on the future. And the future for us is not that 2012 presidential race. Its next year, and our next budgets and the next reforms in our states.”

“We are united and we understand what it’s going to take to get this economy back on the right track, national security issues, immigration issues, education reform, health care reform, those issues that we deal with every day in our states,” Palin added. “We want to reach out to the new administration and offer our assistance, our support, offer solutions and I think that we’ll be sought by the new administration, by Congress, and we’re here to help."

Palin’s got a bad case of diarrhea of the mouth. If she had some brains it wouldn’t be so bad, but this babbling on and on and on and on and on………………………………………….

hmn – ever hear of freedom of speech? Goodness knows, if it’s good enough for Sarah Palin to spout off nonsense every time she opens her mouth, it should be good enough for those of us who would like to express our disgust with her.

I look forward to Palin’s leadership. She has been gracious with Obama after the election. As she said the election is over and is now time to move on. The GOP have alot of work to do just as the Democrat party did in 2000 and 2004. Time to look to the future and work together to solve the enormous problems we are facing.
For those Palin haters out there, is time time for you guys to let it go. The campaign is over.

Everthing is for ratings with the TV networks. It doesn’t matter what the subject is as long as network polling shows we are interested in watching it they will keep on covering it. We might as well get used to it or shut the TV off and stay off the internet. It is only going to get more hillarious as this “Airhead” Palin, old man McRage and others head for Georgia for the senate run-off. Wow “Hillbilly Heaven”.

This is amazing. The losing VP candidate gets more press and attention than the president elect. Free advice for Obama supporters in 2012: “Be afraid.. Be very afraid.”

Her resolve to rise from the ashes is remarkable and she deserves a chance at the Republican nomination in 2012. Some how she will have to convince Independents, women, African-Amricans and Hispanics that she is worth the shot. She alientated most of that demographic in this election. There is are many young educated and more capable talented candidates within the Republican party at the moment. People like the Gov. of Minnisotta and Bobby Jindal, have a better chance of extracting votes from the demographics I mentioned.

The GOP needs to look at every transcript of every interview Gov. Palin has ever given, to determine if the coronation of her as their Queen is the last thing that they want too do. The divisve politics, lack of education, and hateful rhetoric that she favors will bring about loss after loss for the GOP in upcoming elections.

I have an idea. Let’s ignore Palin. She likes the attention – she likes the celebrity. OF COURSE she wants to run in 2012 – let’s not play the game, the media and the public both, of paying her serious attention. Let’s ignore her because:
1. She is ignorant – and I think we all know it.
2. She is untruthful.
3. She is no reformer – she is as corrupt as any politician, and more so than most.
4. She will never get widespread appeal among women.

keep her talking – into 2010, 2012, 2014-2016 and on the more she talks the chances increase that democrats will be in power for the next – 50 years. maybe longer

Jim (Canada) Jim, you shouldn’t say anything bad about the mainstream media and major TV network such as NBC, CNN, and ABC. Did you forget they are the biggest contributor to Obama’s getting elected? They are the big Leftist propaganda machine—churning out nasty lies– left and right– against this beautiful and intelligent woman. They have done a good job, like you. I suggest you vow to this network.

She is auditioning for a job as a talk show host. She and Elisabeth Hasselbeck are a former beauty queen and reality show contestants. They will be wonderful together as political pundits. Totally inane topics. Way to go GOP this is the future of your party. Two right wing “whack jobs”.

Palin does not know when to back off with grace. Whether we like it or not we have to hear her or see her in the media. She still does not know how she comes across. A very determined but very dumb person. She thinks she is charming. We would rather hear her talk sense than see her pretty face. If she wants to compete in 2012 she better start studying..NOW

I want the McCain advisors who leaked negative information about Palin to reveal themselves — and to reveal more information. The country deserves to know what they know. She is one incredibly good looking, dynamic politician who also happens to be vacuous, insipid, and uninformed. She has nothing important or valuable to say. The only reason the media is covering this is ratings. It truly troubles me. She does not deserve one minute of our time, and I have just wasted time writing this. Enough of Palin, please!!!!

Posted by: dissertator08 | November 13, 2008, 2:13 pm 2:13 pm

She’s getting even more attention than the President-elect, even from the Democrats.
To those who say the campaign is over, it’s just begun…
Go Sarah!

Posted by: Elaine | November 13, 2008, 2:13 pm 2:13 pm

She drew huge crowds on the campaign trail despite tough criticism that she lacked political experience.
But correspondents say Mrs Palin could face stiff competition if she wants to become the Republican nominee in 2012.
Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, who both failed in their candidacy this year, along with Florida Governor Charlie Crist and Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour, may also be candidates.

Posted by: anon | November 13, 2008, 2:19 pm 2:19 pm

There should be some good investigative reporting regarding her performance as Governor. Alaska is a sleepy state and it doesn’t have the problems that Governors usually have. She has made a lot self proclaimed accomplishments that have proven not to be true, such as the bridge to nowhere. Her only accomplishments appear to be her ability to attack an opponent, however her own resume is remarkably thin, with her lack of education and experience.

Posted by: Tandalyn | November 13, 2008, 2:20 pm 2:20 pm

How she got as far as she has is beyond me. She would have made the perfect running mate for W. The blind leading the blind–or in this case the incompetent leading the incompetent. I really hope we don’t have to hear much more about her.

Posted by: mtatom | November 13, 2008, 2:20 pm 2:20 pm

Maybe she has something the other two or three candidates do not have. In a recent poll of “Who would you nominate as the next GOP candidate?”… These were the results:
Palin: 63%
Romney: 13%
Huckabee: 12%
After all, Obama won over Hillary as a result of his charisma, definitly not experience.
If she gets in the Senate, the ‘inexperience’ card will not work in 2012.

Posted by: Ana | November 13, 2008, 2:20 pm 2:20 pm

The power of the presss and media to build or destroy was never more evident than in the attempt to ruin Palin as compared to their promotion of Obama. The intensity of the Palin character assassination was matched by the gushing exhuberance in endorsing the Obama candidacy. In the Palin case the media quickly adopted a strategy of ridicule to capitalize on criticizing every aspect of her being. In the Obama case the media crafted a positive image from every angle: family, character, career, etc. Magazines, TV newspapers presented wildly flattering reports. Care was taken to minimize every Obama foible or defend against any negative perspective. Of course, since the hard core leftists have no honor, the achievement of their objective justified any action, any distortion, any ploy. America has seen the 21st century version of Masters of Deceit. It is tragic that the purveyors celebrate their shame.

One of her “claims to fame” has been that natural gas pipeline she’s been pushing.
When asked the other day, “Where does the gas line stand?” Palin replied, “It’s nonsense that we are relying on foreign sources of energy to the degree that we are when Alaska has much of the resources that the rest of the nation could utilize. But, we’re only going to be able to get there with the allowance to develop and with the ability to develop if we do things up here right.”
In other words, it’s still a pipe dream.

Posted by: Phil | November 13, 2008, 2:34 pm 2:34 pm

All I wish to express, as a
former Cuban exile, is that Barack Obama and
Fidel Castro share many personality traits, ie:
Both were abandoned by their
fathers at an early age.
Both are charming, eloquent
lawyers that say exactly what people
want to hear at the right
time and place.
One never led the nation to
suspect he was a communist at heart, the
other doesn’t mention
the word socialism when in reality
this is exactly what his
agenda stands for.
Neither Obama nor Fidel ever
held a real job either in government or in private enterprise
for they think of themselves as demigods unworthy of soiling
their hands when their destiny is much larger than their own
realities.
Both were virtually unknown
until they began to use the word “change” as their main
political motto.
Both have egos as tall as the
twin towers, yet they manage to present themselves humbly, one
in soiled military fatigues and the other sweating and with an
undone tie.
Both have the unique ability to
distort truth and lies as if they were the same.
Both have the ability to
hypnotize the ignorant and fool the wishful thinker and to
divide a nation in classes, (divide and you shall win) In
Fidel’s case he divided the rich against the poor, the
illiterate against the educated and the black against the white.
In Obama’s case even if by omission, he’s de-facto dividing the
races already.
Another resemblance between
Obama and Fidel and one that shall never be forgotten is that
the American media supported the ‘Twentieth Century Latin
American Liberator’ (Time Magazine) with the same degree of
irresponsibility devoted to Barack Obama today. All I wish to express, as a
former Cuban exile, is that Barack Obama and
Fidel Castro share many personality traits

Sarah Palin will run away with the republican nomination in 2012.
Romney will run but he has no chance at the nomination. He proved over and over again in the primaries that the republican base will not vote for him, no matter how much he spends in attack ads. Romney will have a strong following from the Wall Street crowd but that is not near enough voters to win the nomination. Social conservatives will not vote for him because he is such a flip-flopper on the social issues and these voters know he doesn’t take their issues to heart and will not actively push them.
The social conservatives will instead flock to Sarah Palin. She will win the votes of most of those who supported Huckabee and Thompson, plus whe will win some others who are women and working class, regardless of party affiliation.
She will win Iowa in a landslide. Someone else may win New Hampshire. But certainly she then will come back and win South Carolina in a landslide and that will give her the nomination. Winning two out of the three of Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina basically wins the Republican nomination in late January.
She then will win the presidency in November. She will put a strong emphasis on gving the middle class a good economic program (tax cuts for the middle class). She also will put a strong emphasis on social issues (traditional marriage and life issues like abortion.
Sarah Palin will put together a great coalition of social conservatives and working class voters in all of the border states (states McCain barely lost but which she will win.)
It will be great.

Anon,
Not paranoid, just making comparisons.
By the way, Cuba was a first world nation and Fidel never stated what his true intentions were. He did not have 52% support, like Obama. He had 95% support and the press and media loved him, including TIME magazine, Yes TIME.

Listen up … I for one never believed the Africa incident. I was not there and as far as I’m concerned, it could have been some type of gaffe like Mr. Bidens. I’m on her side with the clothng thing too. Come on! Those of us in the know “KNOW” stylist do the selections and all you do is try the stuff on and have it tailored. Ms Palin probably had no idea of the costs.
But…but… but, she can’t escape her blatent display of ineptitude during the Gibson, Couric, Lauer (that should have been a piece of cake),King (that one too), and Blitzer (another easy one) …I know! I’m a fan! She is almost on the level of Lucy in my book! …Although I don’t think she needs to be elected to and govern anything.
I don’t count the Hannity or Van- whatever her name is,because I believe they furnish her with the questions beforehand.
Most of all, she can’t explain away the prank call!!!!

You republicans don’t get it. Sarah Palin energized the republican base only and not all of them. She is not very intelligent, has no leadership capacity, and only speaks to certain white people. She knows nothing of people of color, the lower United States, and nothing about this complex world. If this is the best the the republican have to offer, they will be out of power for a very long time. Her speech at the governors conferences verifies that she doesn’t get it,like many of those other republican governors. If you don’t speak to the majority of America, you will not win the big office. Way to go, Sarah – graciously continuing on – leading your state – and your party – and focusing on today – even pointing out that the economic woes of Washington, D.C. cannot and should not be considered “fixable” by gifting poor corporate strategists (to say the least) with more and more and more tax payer “bailouts”. And especially not in ever more allowing our Dem Controlled U.S. Congress to look the other way – as they did with Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae – while those two lending institutions all but sold us all down the rive – while Obama watched and applauded Freddie and Fannie on…..
I am sooooo grateful for her pragmatic, spot on and WISE approach to politics – and to focusing on “the day.” And I can hardly wait for 2012 – no matter what Governor Palin says.

And golly gee – and pass the beer, too, why NOT just listen up – and learn from Sarah? After all – if you think about it, boys (and girls) – what she is saying makes sense.
Duh.

Let the right wing republicans elect her as their leader in 2012 – it will just solidify the Democrats winning again! More than half of the country do not think she is qualified to be president, and I don’t think the next four years will change anything unless she signs up for grammar and history classes!

Lee-
you are correct. Palin is a danger to all liberal women everywhere..
She loves her country (big negative)
She loves her special needs child (even bigger negative)
She loves her husband
She is attractive
She is powerful
She is a CHRISTIAN
Liberals cower at these things like garlic to vampires.

Oh you got it wrong baby!!! What in the world in the world is there to be afraid of? We are energized, excited and exhilirated as we prepare for the Inauguration (did you see the going price for rooms?) and the beginning of a wonderful new era in US history…So Plain, please! And we we have 4 1/2 long years to forget about her and her silliness and get on with the business of making positive changes with the country. Obama is going to turn this economy around and put the US back on the map! So get ready for the next 4, oh yeah 8 years of goodness. (smile)

“You republicans don’t get it. Sarah Palin energized the republican base only and not all of them. She is not very intelligent, has no leadership capacity, and only speaks to certain white people. She knows nothing of people of color, the lower United States, and nothing about this complex world. If this is the best the republican have to offer, they will be out of power for a very long time.”
EXACTLY! That’s why I want her to be like the Energizer Bunny and keep talking, and talking, and talking, and talking, and…

…and you feel that Sarah Palin is “ready” to handle these challenges and dangers???
…. LOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The GOP Guys/Gals tried to let her have the limelight that she so desired…but they had to put her back on the leash today after the blunders she made during the interviews. She speaks like a 2nd grader and it’s just so sad that they didn’t vet the dimwit… As I stated before… They had to write the speech because yesterday she was bashing Bush and Obama in the same sentence when she was not with notes. She is not the lead of the Party and the other Gov. standing behind her to like McCain did is proof of that. Thank goodness!

Posted by: Mary | November 13, 2008, 3:31 pm 3:31 pm

I agree! Two days ago, when Bill Ayers was brought up she said all that talk was just politics, and now the country needs to work together and think about the future. Yesterday in an interview she said she still has concerns about Obama’s relationship with Ayers and if anyone still wants to talk about it, she will be glad to talk about it more. Does she really forget what she says from day to day, or is she just plain stupid?? If she keeps bringing up stuff like Bill Ayers, she’s opening herself up for all of her past to also be discussed publicly. She’s asking for trouble!! HAPPY TO SEE THE GOP STEPPING UP NOW TO SHUT HER UP…. SHE TALKS TO MUCH….WITHOUT THINKING ABOUT HER ANSWERS FIRST… JUST TALK AND DON’T HAVE A CLUE WHAT SHE JUST SAID 1 MIN. AGO!

Posted by: Pat | November 13, 2008, 3:33 pm 3:33 pm

Actually, it’s not fear. It’s salivating at the thought of her running again because she’ll turn all the swing voters off again. Other than that, the only thing we have to fear is having to listening to that nasal, Wasilla hillbilly accent again.

Palin is far more qualified than BO. She rose to stardom despite the media’s massive attempt to knock her down. Barry rose to stardom because of the liberal media and its attempts to shelter his shady past. Just imagine if 200+ reporters had gone to chicago (the most corrupt city politically in the US) to dig up barry’s past like they did in Alaska!!

Posted by: palin4prez | November 13, 2008, 3:35 pm 3:35 pm

Give me a break Sarah Palin. sounds like she is already campaigning for 2012. Her remarks are nothing more than “words”. She still believes that Sen Obama palls around with terrorists. I can see it now:
Sarah Palin for Pres and Joe the Plumber as her VP.
I can hardly wait.

Posted by: angie | November 13, 2008, 3:35 pm 3:35 pm

More than a week after the election, and the liberal media and left wing blogospheres fascination with all things Sarah Palin continues unabated. Is there anything she could possibly do (yawn, wink, scratch) that the rest of you wouldn’t be obsessively compelled to stop, watch, analyze, and discuss endlessly. Get some therapy, admit you are all MADLY in love with her, and try to move on with your lives. Otherwise, she’ll just continue to smile, wave, and destroy you.

Posted by: Ken | November 13, 2008, 3:39 pm 3:39 pm

Please GOP and RNC: pick Palin for your presidental candidate in 2012. The laughs will be great and it will ensure that democrats keep the white house for another 4 (perhaps longer) years and expand their voting margin in the house and senate to epic proportions.

I thought the folksy talk and dumbed down rhetoric was an act playing to the least educated part of the right wing, but I now realize what the handlers on the McCain campaign did… she comes off as a complete fool when interviewed. Yet I still hear so many treating her like she is the next leader of the GOP, man they are in big trouble if thats where they are looking for leadership.

Lack of education of morals and family values within her own family, let us see how many more grandkids she would have amongst her teenagers. With the nation in an economic crisis, I am more surprised that there is not more of an outcry over the fact that the Republican governors are attending a conference in Florida at the taxpayers expense, when with today’s technology they could certainly “meet” in a webinar or something like it. And yes – the Democratic governors should cancel traveling to their convention also. I can’t believe no one has commented on this. I wonder how much these governors are costing the taxpayers of their states?

She is a pretty face that shallow minded and political people see as a chance to steal power with. That’s it. You know it, I know it and she knows it.

The Reporters in the US are Out of Control Liberals. They will lie and lie and lie, real moral! Not!!! I know so many people no longer getting the Washington Post.
They have admitted that on purpose they tried to damage Palin and treated her very unfair and poorly in the Press so Obama could win.
They keep on with False Allegations of Palin.
They keep saying the sources are Anonymous.
The Media does not correct their mistakes WHEN THEY DO GET THE RIGHT INFORMATION.
I love Sarah Palin!!!
I love her beliefs for what is right and the truth.
I love that she does not believe in killing babies.
I love that she loves America.
I love that she sends her son to fight while the Obama supporters don’t want their kids to fight.
I love the ways her beliefs do not change, you can not be a Christian one day and not the next cause it is inconvenient.
She is a Survivor!
She is the Real Winner!
The election was bought by Money and the News Media lies.
The Democrats are now confessing how they threw the Election.
It just reinforces the Bible that the World is Not being Lead by God but by the Evil One.
I know that Obama has promised so much to people that paid for him to be elected. I really don’t see how he going to be able to pay back all the promises.

I just find it ironic that the messiah of global warming has $30,000 monthly utility bills, private jet and yacht flies around the country charging $300,000 a speech about lowering our “carbon foot prints”. It would be like Jesus with a hooker on his arm telling everyone to live a pious lifesyle.
Liberals would rather watch the American economy tank than to disrupt a plot of land EQUAL TO THE SIZE OF A POSTAGE STAMP ON A FOOTBALL FIELD in ANWR. How can you side with these insane people? Instead of drilling here, creating jobs, while continuing to search for alternatives, we are sending $400,000,000,000.00 annually out of our country to places that despise the US, and then we wonder why America is losing it’s footing in the world! We’re depleting our economy to build up our enemies.

We all know that Sarah Palin is not the brightest bulb in the chandlier. To compare her to Reagan, Obama, even Quayle was smarter than Sarah…. Come on, she might be pretty and can flirt with the guys, but that is it. she has no brains. They like her in alaska because she is pretty and winked her way in the governor’s role. I “betcha” any money she played with those poor hill billies head and they all went running to the polls thinking they were gonna have Sarah all to themselves. But that kind of appeal does not work on the national level. We need substance not an air head.

You’re right! Can’t wait to see this Lady bloom into her rightful place in our country leadership.

Posted by: Sarah4ever | November 13, 2008, 5:04 pm 5:04 pm

Under her leadership, Alaska invested $5 billion in state savings, overhauled education funding, and implemented the Senior Benefits Program that provides support for low-income older Alaskans. She created Alaska’s Petroleum Systems Integrity Office to provide oversight and maintenance of oil and gas equipment, facilities and infrastructure, and the Climate Change Subcabinet to prepare a climate change strategy for Alaska.
During her first legislative session, Governor Palin’s administration passed two major pieces of legislation – an overhaul of the state’s ethics laws and a competitive process to construct a gas pipeline.
Governor Palin is chair of the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission, a multi-state government agency that promotes the conservation and efficient recovery of domestic oil and natural gas resources while protecting health, safety and the environment. She was recently named chair of the National Governors Association (NGA) Natural Resources Committee, which is charged with pursuing legislation to ensure state needs are considered as federal policy is formulated in the areas of agriculture, energy, environmental protection and natural resource management. Prior to being named to this position, she served as co-chair of this committee.
Prior to her election as governor, Palin served two terms on the Wasilla City Council and two terms as the mayor/manager of Wasilla. During her tenure, she reduced property tax levels while increasing services and made Wasilla a business friendly environment, drawing in new industry.
Sounds like a Brainy Woman to me!

I hope the Republican Party honchos realize that Palin has a HUGE following. Just look at the numbers she brought in for her rallies. This woman has what it takes. She has alot of support already, and if she’s not the nominee in 2012, there will be even less Republicans showing up for the polls. Palin is the only one that can lead the Republican party out the mess they have made for themselves.

If he is so smart then why did he not know that his biggest campaign fundraiser and man that bought the plot of land next Barry’s house in a sweetheart deal was one of the biggest crooks in Chicago?
If he is so smart then why did he not see the bill ayers that the rest of the real patriotic Americans sees him as- an unrepentant terrorist who hates America and everything it stands for?
If he is so smart than why did he say that “Iran is a tiny country and not a serious threat”. He also said he would meet with ahkmadenijacket anytime under any circumstances?
Don’t we have someone in our history that treated crazy dictators from “tiny” countries like annoying pests? His name was Neville Chamberlain- u should look him up sometime.

We have to balance budgets and we’re dealing with multibillion dollar budgets and tens of thousands of employees in our organizations.”

I think you have Sarah mixed up with Tina Fey. Sarah Palin is the smart attractive Governor of Alaska, the largest state in our country. Tina Fey is the comedian that would ruin someone to advance her own career. I’ve noticed a lot of women are threatened by Sarah Palin. She isn’t after your husband. The glass ceiling can be broken but the main reason men don’t promote women to high positions is the petty jealosy. Sarah Palin can help us develop our energy needs without dependance on foreign oil. A governor makes more decisions than absent senators. She will be very helpful in 2010 and 2012. She’s a win win.

BaxterJ – because you loves her! Seems like a lot of people who enjoy writing ignorant things about Sarah just can’t get enough of her as they follow her interviews, speeches and appearances. Keep on watching – pretty soon they will become her staunchest supporters and I’m looking forward to the conversion! It amazes me that these people don’t have the ability or maybe the capacity to verify media sources – no……they just take whatever they hear as gospel. Just another verification of our wonderful educational system and how it has created an apathetic society in which half our voters don’t even bother to question what they are told. The next four years should be very very interesting.

Most of them are ignorant and can only spew their vile hate – it appears that most of them are bitter and because of that they only derive enjoyment from maligning or tearing down someone – makes them feel better and superior. Karma is a funny thing – instead of moving on – they just dive deeper into their despair and insanity as they become more obsessed with Palin. In reality – their personality eventually takes on their current mental state and they become as hateful as what they are spewing.

palin4prez – I’m defending taxpayers – especially since I’m in amongst the group that obama will tax more. What I can’t defend it continuing to tax people like you and me to give to corporations while they outsource jobs and to the ultra rich in the US. They don’t need any additional tax breaks. For 25 years we’ve been giving tax break to the wealthiest 5% of wage earners. It’s time to give some of those breaks to middle income people. If that means I have to pay more taxes then fine. BTW, I don’t belong to any political party. If fact, I’ve voted for a republican president in every election since ’72. But the republican party is no longer “conservative”. I’ve watched in disbelief as they have become the party of fiscal irresponsibility, foreign policy morons, and Christian Taliban (and I’m a Christian too, BTW). I could not vote for them this year. Give me someone like Jindal in 2012 and I’ll consider coming back. Give me Palin and I’ll vote for anyone else.

Posted by: palin4prez | November 13, 2008, 6:31 pm 6:31 pm

To: Sarah4Ever: If Gov Palin is so intelligent, accomplished, and articulate she should have been able to articulate her “achievements” half as well as you did. Either that, or you should have been her campaign magager (or were you?). Instead, she kept repeating over and over and over: I “STOPPED THE BRIDGE TO NOWHERE” and put the airplane for sale on eBay (that must have taken all of 15 minutes).

Posted by: Erin | November 13, 2008, 6:31 pm 6:31 pm

Sarah Palin is intelligent enough to know that you cannot punish business with higher taxes while encouraging economic growth. This still seems to be something that Barry Obama just cannot understand. In the primaries he admitted that lowering taxes would actually bring in more money but he was still going to raise them because it was a matter of “fairness” to him. As Bugs Bunny would say, what a marooon!

-or when the FBI informent( who is still alive today) testified that bill ayers instructed him personally on how to build a bomb and in which place to set it off. When the informant objected saying that the restaruant next door would be full of people and many would die, ayers said “in a revolution innocent people have to die”

Palin4prez: Actually I agree with you. I’d love to get the federal government off of our backs and out of our pockets. Problem is that neither the republican nor democratic party will do that. they will continue to use taxation as a tool of social policy. The only difference between the parties is which benefactors derive the benefit. Both parties are owned, lock, stock, and barrel, by special interests and corporations with deep pockets. The only ones who keep losing year after year is you and me. And every 4 years we listen to the crap they promise, bend over, and take it again. Both parties are just two sides of the same coin. The only way to take our country back is to throw them all out. That’s why I voted against every incumbent politician this year – regardless of party. If we truly want to go back to the principles of our founding fathers then we all should vote libertarian.

If you believe what you just said, then I don’t see how you could possibly not vote for Palin. The woman got to where she is fighting corruption in her own party. When she to the governor’s chair, people were fired, some went to jail- heads rolled.
She got rid of the private chef and the private jet because she didn’t want the taxpayers saddled with the bill- now that is what I call patriotic. How many politicians would sell the freakin jet?????
She has no shady characters in her past that helped her get ahead (as a lot of politicians do), she didn’t marry into $$$, her star power is all her own. Do you think Barry raised $650,000,000.00 and doesn’t owe someone something?

She is anti-intellectual, seems to think that ignorance is a virtue, is inarticulate (at best), is a fundamentalist Christian who exorcises witches during her church services, etc. I’d happily vote for a real conservative woman like Kay Bailey Hutchinson or Libby Dole. I cannot vote for someone who is so obviously ignorant and uneducated to be president.

Sarah’s ability to govern has made Alaska the only state that is not in a recession today. Obama? The stock market saw the biggest drop ever in the week after a presidential election. The smart money knows Obama’s economic plan will bring more harm to our economy. Wait until all of the Obama supporters realize they won’t get all of the goodies that their dear leader promised. Wait until their jobs are lost because Obama’s tax plans for businesses results in down sizing.
Alaska under Sarah Palin will fare much better than America under Obama. The 2012 election should be fought on this comparison.

obama just announced he would resign his senate seat and miss key votes on economy – same old Sugar Honey Ice Tea……

Posted by: democratnomore | November 13, 2008, 7:00 pm 7:00 pm

Chris in texas, Obama will have everything to do with it. He will attempt to stop all domestic oil production. This will allow oil to go back to $150 per barrel or more while he is still waiting for the next 20-30 years for alternative fuels to become feasible. This in turn will cause the economy to weaken even more. This is the same scenario that did in Jimmy Carter. I cannot believe we are about to go through this again but apparently Obama has not learned the lessons of our past. Sarah desrves credit for being wiser. Obama deserves credit for the failures the come from failed policies.

democratnomore – that’s hardly noteworthy. He wants to governor of Illinois to have time to appoint his replacement before the new senate session starts. You do know that the senate is not in session now don’t you? Not much they can vote on if they’re not even in session.

Chris in texas
She debated a senator of 30 years for 90 minutes and many said she won (not just on the right). Biden said 14 false statements, please google them all.
Do you know why she won? because she was completely speaking directly to the people. it wasn’t taped on an abc set and then replayed back showing her negatives only. she’s not an idiot. her acceptance speech at the convention was watched by 70,000,000, people and she didn’t stutter once (even when her teleprompter stalled) but you won’t here about that on ABC. have you ever seen barry when his stalls, it’s uuuhh, uuuhhh, uuuuhhhh.
As for the witch doctor..i read he was visiting from Africa and wanted to give a blessing against evil spirits…my church has had some pretty colorful vistors over the years. what should she have done- said “no thanks weirdo!”
Besides, as long as the witch doctor is pro-American and obviosly likes Christians, who cares!!

“He will attempt to stop all domestic oil production.”
This is, perhaps, the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen posted.
“Obama deserves credit for the failures the come from failed policies.”
I guess we’ll have to see on that won’t we since he hasn’t taken office yet. If he screws up I’ll call him on it like I would any doofus politician.

She “won” the debate because she didn’t answer any of the questions posed to her…..
“as long as the witch doctor is pro-American and obviosly likes Christians, who cares!! ”
You’ve got to be kidding…..Maybe you don’t like it but more and more people in the US are’t christian, and that’s just fine according to our constitution. one does not need to be a christian to be pro-american.
Reverend Wright is an idiot, so what else is new?

Chris in texas, Obama has consistently opposed oil exploration, he has consistently opposed coal, and he consistently opposed opening new areas for development. Why is it stupid to look at his record and state what is obviously true? Obama does not want to produce oil on American soil.

Palin4Prez: Editing–Yeah, right. Then how come her “handlers” didn’t even let her speak to friendy media (i.e., Fox TV, Rush, Hannity) and kept her locked away from any Q&A media coverage for a few weeks. Because they knew right away that once she gets off her memorized talking points, she rambles on and on, or when she can’t or won’t answer a question she changes the subject. She was finally interviewed by “friendly” media and still sounded like a “Valley Girl.” You like her because she is “folksy” and winks–are you serious? She would be an embarrasment taking to a world leader. Remember it was many of your fellow Republicans who rejected her in the end (not the “liberal-biased media”).

You democratic idiots that call Palin unqualified…should look at our newly elected president….and tell us why you think he is qualified to lead this country..certainly can;t be on what he has actually DONE….Obama is the stealth president…nobody knows exactly what he is going to do in office because he has run his campaign on a platform (moderate, tax cutting democrat) that certainly seems at odds with his actual (short) record in Congress and his associations and writings…all of which are far left.
Obama is the “Wing and Prayer” president…if he succeeds as president…we won;t be able to say it was because he was prepared for the job; that;s for sure.

Man when Sarah gets on a roll you can’t shut her up. She really needs to come up with some new material if she’s going to keep doing interviews at the clip she’s on. How many times do we need her to tell us that God is going to show her open doors and it’s ok if they’re open only just a crack because she’s going to go barging through? I guess until she comes up with another moronic tag line she can memorize and regurgitate ad nauseum until sombeody tells her its gotten worn out. Well my ears also get worn out listening to her – partly because of her inadequate command of the subject matter but also because of her ‘Wasilla Hillbilly’ fractured English. She really could use some coaching on how to speak in coherent sentences with the words arranged in the right order and without dropping ‘G’s to all the ‘ing’ words she peppers her speech with. Just chuckl’n to myself as I imagine listen’n to Sarah Palin and Gerorge Bush hav’n a conversation. Might be need’n an interpreter for that one.

Beyond that, the quoted statement above is totally idiotic and without any b ase of fact. So you are saying that all the 49 other states in the US are in deep financial doo doo, and Alaska is the one shining example of success.

“What did Obama do in Chicago besides go to superbowl parties at bill ayers house?”
Obama became state senator, he made decisions on behalf of the 12 million people in Illinois. The person that makes decisions in Chicago is Mayor Richard Daley. Not too hard to figure out.
However, Obama did spend a lot of time trying to organize church leaders to start job fairs for out of work african americans in the inner city, when he was only in his mid 20′s. He also wrote two books and taught law at the University of Chicago.

“And I speak for other Republicans, other Republican governors also, they being willing also to, again, seize this opportunity that we have to progress this nation together, a united front.”

I do not understand how she can speak at something titled “Looking Forward to the Future” yet continue to repeat stump spin. This woman just brings something out in me. As a centrist? If she keeps getting propped up as the future of the party I’ll feel forced to go full on democrat and never look back. I can not stand her negativity and division. She comes across like a smug ##### and it’s just a huge turn off. I’m wondering if she’s capable of “speaking” without throwing others under the bus. IF you can even understand what she’s trying to get at. The GOP’s base turned out on this election. They ran off the moderates. They are going to have to ditch this woman or they don’t stand a chance.

Posted by: Susan-1 | November 14, 2008, 8:13 am 8:13 am

My guess is she didn’t say, “Our concern should be about our state’s next great reform, our next budget, our next opportunity to progress in the states that we serve.” She has an annoying habit of using progress as a transitive verb, so I’ll bet she actually said, “…progress the states that we serve.”

“Hey Captain
your man is a socialist that clearly does not like America and neither does his angry wife, but hey, he sure can give a good speech!”
—————————————
I don’t know why I continue wasting my time with these moronic arguments. This gets really really old.
Now, I want you to pay close attention and READ CAREFULLY. Here’s is the FIRST SENTENCE of the definition of “socialism”, right from the wikpeadia.com site
“Socialism refers to a broad set of economic theories of social organization advocating state or collective ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods”
Obama has never even remotely advocated “state or collective ownership and distribution of goods”
If he did, Biff and Buffy in the Hamptons would have to allow grungy city dwellers access to their yacht and summer home.
And where do you get that “he does not like America?”
Taken the literal definition of “socialism”, I would say that more applies to Palin allowing fellow Alaskanites to take a piece of the pie from oil profits in their state…Wouldn’t you?
this “socialism” argument is kindergarten and moronic..Like Palin would understand what “socialism” is anyway. She couldn’t quite get what the VP job description was in an interview, and all she had to do was pick up a copy of the constitution for 5 minutes or so to refresh herself…Of course, no she decided to wing it, and make it up as she went along. Kind of frightening, to think that there are people who want to put this woman into a high level of public office, wouldn’t you say?

Posted by: captain | November 14, 2008, 12:51 pm 12:51 pm

aw, as much as you dislike Palin, you still are glued to whatever news there is of her. The thing that is perplexing is that as much as you think you know her, you really don’t. If you did – you would know that there was conflict within the campaign because she asked the McCain folks to stop doing robocalls. She thinks they are more harmful than good. Funny thing is – I received robocalls from Barack, Dianne Feinstein, Hilary, Nancy and Barbara Boxer – They didn’t terrorize me, but they sure as hell annoyed me. So, perhaps you need to see someone about your “fear of phone calls” because it really isn’t healthy and could lead you to a nervous breakdown.

Posted by: qwicwted | November 14, 2008, 12:56 pm 12:56 pm

Captain – you forgot the most important part of Obama’s career as a community organizer – he registered voters. Now, I have several people in my community that sit outside the grocery store registering voters – guess that would also qualify them for the WH. What confuses me about Barack is the fact that he ran on a “Time for Change has Come” platform, but it is very apparent that he is going to fill his cabinet with the same ole “Clinton – Ole Boy” network. What happened to the “Change” that we can believe in? Why utilize the same ole retreads? Barack ran on hope – having Madeline Albright, John Kerry, et al doesn’t represent hope to me – it shows me that business will remain the same. I find it interesting that the dem’s are now promoting a bailout for the Big 3 – why would you want to pour money into a losing proposition. The Big 3 made their mistakes and now they should live with them – perhaps they need to change the way they do business. Anyway, all I see is the same ole same ole

This is a seriously stupid woman. Haven’t you all learned what happens when stupid people are put in power? It’s a bad idea.

Posted by: Connie Florida | November 14, 2008, 1:53 pm 1:53 pm

Cap’n I respect Barack’s work as a community organizer especially since he registered so many that voted Carol Mosely-Braun into office – a term that was plagued by scandals – especially over the misspent $249K in campaign donations and the $28,750 that she deposited into a personal money market fund which in reality was her mother’s money who at the time was on Medicaid. In addition CMB rewarded several of her campaign workers with cushy jobs – especially her campaign manager who was later accused of sexual harassment – paid him $15K per month. And then there is the meeting she had with Nigeria’s dictator Sani Abacha – all in one term – imagine that. On the subject of change – if I wanted another Clinton regime I would have voted for Hillary – instead I voted for “hope and change” – Barack. The thing is Cap’n – it is disappointing that most people vote their party line. Like a good soldier, I too was in lock step with my party and towed the party line. So….I am confused as to why we were advertised change as the difference between Hillary and Barack when in fact they are one and the same?
As far as bailing out the Big 3 – they gave over generous retirement benefits – better than most people get and there is also the matter of the “job bank” which was established in 1984 and has 5,000 employees on its dole. According to the UAW – GM has agreed to contribute up to $2.107 billion over four years – an agreement signed in 2003. Interesting that GM won’t disclose the figures it contributes each year as it tries to secure your money and mine to stay afloat. To those that were laid off – get a job like most of us have done whenever we were laid off. The Big 3 make a crappy product with crappy service – take a lesson from Toyota, Honda and other automakers located in the South.

As far as CMB, you conveniently leave out a lot of info there, partner…There was never any cold hard evidence that CMB did anything unethical or illegal. As a matter of fact, the IRS was slapped down by the Justice Dept for attempting to poke further into CMB’s doings. Unlike Palin, who was found to have committed unethical acts by the Alaskan legislature, yet then basically vindicated herself with the findings of her “personnel” board.
Also, you forget to mention the many many accolades and accomplishments in passing legislation for housing, education and governmental reform during the tenure of CMB
To staff the Obama administration with veterans from the Clinton administration is a very wise move. Jimmy Carter, in 76 tried to staff his administration with completely fresh blood and it failed miserably. They were not up to the demands and the ins and outs of how to get things done in Washington.
You better believe that a Big 3 bailout will be loaded with conditions. It doesn’t make sense right now to unload 3 million workers into a work force that simply cannot absorb it.

I still can’t get over the hate for this woman. Everyone loves to call her a liar and stupid. First of all.. ALL politican’s lie… If you really think Obama is the moderate he acted like in the presidential campaign all you have do is look back at the leftiest he ran as in the primaries. He will allow the Bush tax cuts to expire, so you will get a tax increase. Secondly, Palin is doing a good job running a state (not that anyone will give her credit for it). If Obama leads as a moderate (after the last 8 years) he’ll have my vote in 2012. But for all you Palin haters, let’s see what Obama can do first… I’m not impressed at all yet. Time will tell.

Cap’n – you forgot to mention that CMB paid a fine for the “Medicaid” fraud. Oh…..that’s right – it was just a mistake or oversight. Even though the Justice Dept. didn’t go after her – she still was a one-term senator and it is funny because she really doesn’t leave a very positive legacy.
Again, when Barack ran against Hillary in the primaries he advertised he was “hope and change”. Again, if I wanted a Clintonista Administration – I would have voted for Hillary.
As for the Big 3 – again – they have a crappy product and crappy service – they have not adapted to the marketplace, instead relying on their SUV and Trucks to create revenue. Like those of us who have been laid off or downsized – the industry needs to reorganize and if it creates 3 million new unemployed – they will need to get a job just like others have in the past. That is what the free market system is all about – if you cannot create a product that the public demands – then you aren’t around for very long. Interesting – where were the voices when the steel industry shut down? The thing is, if we bail out the auto industry – there are other industries lined up asking for the same – where does it stop?

Again, CMB was never convicted or found to have anything illegal. Also, you are overlooking the 300 or so different recommendations she received in her career. At one time, she was up for consideration as the Democratic nominees
for Pres. The bottom line is, Obama did what he could to help her get into office, and the people elected her.
I see plenty of examples of how hope and change are coming as a result of the Obama victory…The hope and the change we need as the global leader, a change of the world view of our country, and a chance for all the negativity that 8 years of Bush has garnered.
Like I said, the bailout of the big 3 is bound be totally conditional. The conditions, Im sure, are going to be a “forced reorganization”
Seriously, I don’t think either McCain or Obama, in their best day, could or will fix this mess overnight. The advantage to Obama is he gives our country a fresh face and renewed profile as a world leader. He also gives a new generation of Americans a voice.
