Nice to see ABC staff on camera cheering when Obama got over the top. Ever heard of professionalism you BUMS!?! 1st we get eight years of a hard right tyranny replaced now with a hard left tyranny… And BIG media is right there cheering right along… Pathetic!

Wow is right. We have just elected the most radical left wing candidate ever as President of the United States. A man that has promised everything to everybody and that will not be able to live up to those promises. Energy prices will rise, unemployment will rise 8% to 9%, the Bush Tax Cuts for those making $42,000 and more will expire on December 31, 2009, trade agreements will come to a halt and those future trade partners will turn to others, Russia, Venenzuela, Iran and al Qaeda will all be emboldened. Taxes will increase and spending will be out of control with no one being able to stand up to the Democratic Congress. These are historical times indeed and the United States will change, but for the worse.

It is a great relief to me that we have delivered to our citizens and to the rest of the world that we value honor and integrity, and that we are not afraid to try something new to bring those values to life.
It is a great blessing to be alive to see our values transcend race, gender, and family origin and configuration.
However, it is a great disappointment to me that at this moment – soon after the race was called – the media is choosing to focus on race above all else. In doing so they contradict Obama’s platform – and his very being. The whole point of the way he campaigned, and I believe the essence of his success, is that together in union we can do anything.
So let’s stop talking about what divides us, and please let’s stop deconstructing the polls. Let’s focus on what we share, and what we’re going to do with our newly unified power.

This is indeed a historic moment. Obama joins all races: White and Blacks, Hispanics, and Asian, rich, middle class, and poor. We can now say that America is MULTICULTURAL and that there is true acceptance and appreciation despite our differences. The world is our witness.

I have to say that I have never seen people be so angry at a generous and gracious candidate who steps aside so honorably. And on top of that I had a thought in response to RTF and the issue of racism: How is it any different if someone votes against Obama because he is African American and a person who votes for him because he is African American? Just a thought……

Posted by: jcb | November 4, 2008, 11:41 pm 11:41 pm

Obama will not need to extend his hand to Republicans and he knows it. He will say that tonight, but he won’t need them in order to get what he wants to get done. There will be no one to stop the “progressive” agenda that he is proposing. The United States is about to see a bigger government more involved in our lives than ever before.

What a blessing for the U.S.A. – and, for the world!
We are now at a turn in the road, a turn from which all on our globe may benefit. President-elect Obama will surely expedite a mending process with those countries we’ve denegrated and abused for nearly 8 years.
President-elect Obama’s resounding victory is a commentary on the McCain-Palin ticket. More importantly, it is a referendum on the Bush-Cheney Regime, and the vile & disgusting execution of their respective positions in our government (key word ‘our’).
I thank God for the blessing of guidance of voters in this election, that we can radically depart from the horrible elitism and arrogance we’ve endured lo these many years.
My prayers will continue for a coming together of all voters, to get behind President-elect Obama – to enable him to lead us toward the greatness we once enjoyed.
For the first time in nearly 8 years, I am again proud to be a citizen of the U.S.A. – no longer ashamed!

You know what I find amazing is that we have a Nation that forgets that it takes MORE than a President to run a country. This is not about black vs white – It is about a belief in what is right and wrong. The President-Elect has more than just this moment that faces him – He has to PROVE that he is what he says he is – and frankly I do not believe that is possible.
BUT – it looks like he will be our next President and while I did not stand for him – the Presidency is a position of respect – and I will stand for THAT – regardless. We would all do good to remember that in the days to come.
Our great Nation is indeed in for a change – and I fear what that may be- Prayer is needed more now than ever for our Nation, for our leaders and for our citizens.

Posted by: rh | November 5, 2008, 12:05 am 12:05 am

to focus on race is not to divide us but to give voice to the reality of long-existing ‘separate but not equal’ status of african americans in our country. it is to let those so long defined as ‘other’ take a moment to digest this historic moment that all-too-often their life experience has taught them could not happen. you will forgive black journalists never given a chance to sit in the anchors chair for no apparent reason a moment to lose the ‘objectivity’ in a moment that just might be bigger than them… bigger than all of us.

When Bush won the second time, I predicted doom and destruction for the US, but look, we are still alive, although we may be much weaker.
So those of you predicting doom under Obama will also see that after 4 or 8 years, the Americans will still be alive, well, and contradictory. I just hope that we are better off as a nation and as individuals by that time.

When Bush won, we were not looking at a president who was a socialist…
I do hope the best for America, I hope that we will have change left in our pocket when he is done, but I ultimately hope that he will fight for traditional American values and the traditional interpretation of the Constitution, although he does not have that track record behind him, so the future doesn’t look too good for that to happen…

Shepard Smith of Fox, with Ralph Nader. Approx 1245am Wed.
Nader what kind of president Barack Obama will be…an Uncle Sam or an Uncle Tom.
Smith is incredulous. ‘An African American is elected as president of the US, and the question you ask is whether he’ll be an Uncle Sam or an Uncle Tom?’
Nader babbled about looking into a camera and not being in the studio with Smith, who did not mind cutting off the interview.

As dirty as McCain’s and Palin’s tactics have been during this campaign they have served their purpose although not In the way they thought .
All during this campaign Obama has displayed the traits of a great leader. His calm and logical actions and decisions have impressed Colin Powell and Warren Buffet and many others. Even the worst republicans threw at him was treated it with calm equanimity. Contrary to their charges, not only has he been tested , but they administered the test . Obama passed with flying colors.
Kipling said it best:
If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:
If you can dream–and not make dreams your master,
If you can think–and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much:
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!
He was talking about men like Obama.

from cnn CNN) — Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid will likely meet later this week with Joe Lieberman to discuss whether the Democrat-turned-Independent will be stripped of his Senate committee chairmanship, a senior Democratic leadership aide tells CNN.
Lieberman currently chairs the Senate’s Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.
This aide says that Reid, who is calling the meeting, has not yet decided what to do. The aide admits that the decision will be determined in part by the final election results tonight — and just how close the party is to a filibuster-proof 60-seat majority — but insists that the biggest factor involved is lingering anger among Senate Democrats over Lieberman’s Republican convention speech.
This aide also said that Senate Democrats aren’t that upset about Lieberman’s constant presence and cheerleading on the campaign trail with John McCain — instead, they’ve been put off by the things he said about Barack Obama at the Republican convention in St. Paul.

wow I see they are wasting time delivering retribution.

No one was sold out, live in a typically red state and in the counties of that state in which there has always been an extreme lean to the right. Watch any of the local television channels or listen to any of the local radio stations, you can see a definite pandering towards the conservative side.
it just depend on where you are, the view is always different somewhere else.

My television set is glued to ABC, and I never change stations when it comes to the News. I have lost all trust in the staff of ABC News, as they cheered on Obama, and cut-down McCain, in all of the coverages, and not provide equal and fair interviews with the candidates. Saturday Night Live’s portrayal of the Candidates should be outlawed, as it would be in any other country, at least until the election is over. Oprah should stick to her talk show, and not endorse any of the candidates, as she has a fantastic following, who would do as she asked, at the drop of a hat. I just think that the whole outcome will be rethought in the near future, as more and more people find it hard to afford anything anymore, even their luxury homes, and businesses. Stay healthy! God Bless us all!

To the supporters of McCain I have nothing but respect for Senator McCain, he is an elequent man of grace and determination. My intention was not to attack those of you supporting the McCain Palin ticket. I feel, as does the majority of the country that they were not what was best for our country. I, being in the posistion that I am in, have every right to celebrate a victory that I helped work towards.
Let me reiterate, All the nation sought change, be it Obama or McCain. The majority and myself just found through research and from past experiences that at this point, this very point in our nations history, Barack Obama was the catalyst and leader that our country needed to help pick up the pieces of the past 8 years and to repair our nations image to our forien allies.
I apologize for your dissappointment, but do not think I will not revel in our nations victory.

The goopiness is just a getting too weird. When I think what some people might have been doing to themselves if Obama had lost. It’s a little scary.
People repeat to yourselves: He is only a politician. Just as John McCain is. I don’t mean to say this to be pejorative. Just a little reality check.
Best wishes for the President Elect.

as I look locally and on this sight it shows that all votes are acounted for and there is a lead of approximately 20k votes.

That’s amazing Kelly. The ELECTORATE really has voted a landslide victory for the Democrats. A very strong mandate.
Indiana hadn’t voted anything but Republican for a long time if I recall correctly.

Posted by: pefros | November 5, 2008, 2:05 am 2:05 am

Indiana had not voted for a Demecratic nominee since 1964. It is monumental to me, albeit not as monumental as having the first African American president, but I find it hopeful that President-elect Obama was the impetus that drove so many of my fellow Hoosiers to the poles. We had record turn out of first time voters as well as many Republicans decided that Barack was the best thing for our nation to repair its oh so damaged world image.

pefros,
Yes.
I don’t think most Americans who haven’t lived outside of our country realize how closely this has been watched around the world.
This will be a major boost for America around the world.
The first 100 days will be critical but we can build new alliances, shore up floundering relationships and tear down barriers.
I hope there will soon be:
(1) a major Middle East peace initiative
(2) re-establishment of relations with Cuba
(3) open discussions with Iran
(4) progress towards indepence for Iraq

He won without questioning patriotism.

Good luck to us all with this “monumentale event”. I for one will be wearing black in mourning for our country until he proves his worth. The worst thing we can do is pull completely out of the war. It shows weakness for a country that stands by its belief in a nation united against terrorrism and acts of violence to the innocent. My appologies for my feelings on this but we need to show our strength sometimes to stay the country that fought for our rights, freedoms and the freedoms of others. I hope he lives up to the things he says he will do. We just have to have faith. Isn’t that what this country was based on? Some see the bloodshed and not the true reason we are fighting. It is not to bring war and vengenace, but to bring justice to terrorists that have taken lives and continue to take lives to this day. And i say again… Good Luck to us all and pray that this won’t lead to another attack against the country we all “say” we love.

I feel that people are getting out of why we elected this person for president, it is because he is giving us hope to end distruction of America with the economy and other key points of the nation. Not because of the color of his skin, he is an american and was brought up to understand our country, not because he is african-american, we elected Obama because he believed in the american legacy.

Posted by: Maria | November 5, 2008, 10:14 am 10:14 am

I am mourning the values and beliefs this country was based on. I am mourning for the people like me that make little enough as it is on our paychecks, because now i have to give my money as handouts to 3rd generation welfare recipiants. I am mourning for the policies that will be hurting our police officers in thier jobs and out. I am mourning a nation that thinks outside the country violence is bad but inside violence in the name of Obama is good. I am mourning for everything that we stand for… One nation, Under God, Indivisible…. I am not a church going every day kinda person, but i do believe that one of the main rules in the Bible that we based our country on is vital to who we are as a country. That rule is “Do unto others as you shall do unto them”. This countries laws and values were set down by the christian religion, and now everyone wants to “seperate church and state”. To truly be who we are is to stand by the motto “In God We Trust”, it is more than just words. It is the foundation of everything that THIS country was based on. We are AMERICA, not Mexico, Russia, Africa, Middle East, or any other place in the world. Why do people want the ten commandments out from in front of court houses? It is another vital part of our country. People come to the united states to be free and to have a better life, and people don’t realize that those beliefs and values come from being based in a christian country. Yet the people who voted for Obama call anyone that doesn’t believe what they believe right wingers or scum buckets. I wouldn’t call you a right winger or scum bucket because i stand by my beliefs and the beliefs of this country. Do you? Peace and prosperity was something you asked me about. No we haven’t, but that is not the governments fault. Oil prices didn’t go up because of the war, they went up because of money hungry fools. That is why most oil companies made 3 billion in PROFITS!!! That was our money they took. Be mad at them for the economy not our government.

America is dead. We have a marxist president who will gloat when he walks into the White House. He will be served by chefs and driven in limo’s while the rest of us go to the local soup kitchen. Get ready for the most beautiful sound, the call to prayer at sunset.

All things are possible to them that believe. Napoleon Hill once said “Whatever the human mind can conceive and believe it can achieve”. Against all odds, against negative ads, negative rhetoric, negative commentary, the American dream conceived in the heart of a believer, became a reality for a nation.
There were those that cooked up a kitchen sink strategy to sink Senator Barak Obama’s election campaign. The kitchen sink strategy failed. Others tried mudslinging politics . That failed. The precision of the Obama 2008 Election team remained sure , stedfast focused on real issues to win the campaign. The pages of history will declare the folly of kitchen sink strategy and mudslinging politics.
All American’s are to be congratulated for showing the world that democracy has never been a dream . Democracy is a reality . South Africa had President Nelson Mandela , The United States of America has President Barak Obama.
Political pundits may have a lot to say about this and that. History books will record the brilliance of the well organised and well disciplined and adequately financed Obama 2008 campaign.
It was said before, some months ago “…That if God wants Barak Obama to be President, nothing or nobody can stop that…”. History now records that he will be the 44th President of the United States of America.
May God’s protection, God’s wisdom and God’s peace be with President elect Barak Obama and his wife Michelle and their children.May God continue to bless and be with the United States of America.
A great campaign. Democracy in action. Errol Smythe.

Thanks to McCain for a courageous and generous speech. And I can’t say how glad I am to read the real reports on the campaign – that McCain wanted an honorable campaign and was blindisided by the ruthless and clueless and unapproved attacked by Palin too. He was someone I once supported and believed in and I welcome him back.

Linda, I never thought I would be here again – but there are thousands of little old ladies in Iowa who disagree with you pretty strongly. And they are not naive or unAmerican or Marxist. They are part of real America – just like the people who were celebrating from Miami to Times Square to Pikes Place in Seattle.
Just for the record: John McCain does not approve your statement. Not even close. Why don’t you go back and listen to his speech? It was a speech made by a man who loves this country – and knows what it is going to take for this country to make it through the toughest time in 50 years. And I believe he is ready and willing to do it. And so is Obama.

Posted by: Mara | November 5, 2008, 1:24 pm 1:24 pm

Congratulations President Elect Obama!
To all the people who hate or fear Obama, give him a fair chance, and don’t try to divide the country. Obama is walking into a mess that has grown tremendously during the campaign.
Note: The USA now has redistribution of wealth, a.k.a. “socialism”, at least since graduated income tax. Not an Obama program.
The country has had legal abortion since Roe vs. Wade, it is not law that Obama authored. The right to choice does not mean Obama or others favor or like to see abortions. He is not a baby killer.
A person being a homosexual does harm straight people. Some sexually insecure people may feel threatened. Being a homosexual is not a choice, and as such, cannot be outlawed in a democracy; it could be in a communist country.
I am wondering if people who base their vote by voting for the candidate who is against abortion rights, and homosexual rights, would prefer a theocracy based on Christianity (other religions not likely allowed), over democracy. Many of the multitude the Religious Right’s actions show me that they want to move toward Theocracy, they just don’t want to call it that.

Well . . . I barely wore any mascara today, cause I feel like I’m going have watery eyes all day. What an amazing day! This must be, to some degree, how my parents and grandparents felt when an Irish Catholic man was elected president – like the sky is the limit for their children, for ALL children. Only the struggle has been much, much harder and more profound for African Americans.
What a moment to be alive! And, as my teenage son said last night, who was so elated and enthusiastic, I feel my eyes watering again at the thought of it, “now we’ve taken back our country!” We have. We’ve taken back The Constitution, fairness, unity, and hope. Now, the future of generations rest on how we all proceed and meet the enormous challenges ahead, together.
Did I mention it’s a hell of a day? A hell of a lot of hope was answered and is still swelling in a lot of us for the future. Hope that we can get back to our finer selves, our finer principles and get to work together to straighten this colossal mess up.
. . . Man that was soppy, but I just can’t hold it in.

For all the bloggers on this site who hate the fact that President Elect Obama has won the Presidential Election. I can’t see you, but I can feel your venom, sadness, hurt and anger in your words. This is a great country. Even you can become president in the USA if you so desire and put forth the hard strenuous work. No other country will afford you that opportunity. The fact that you can even say such vile things about the President Elect is proof that you are in a country of liberty and freedom. In another country you would probably be traced to your online comment and admonished if not forbidden to state your opinion again. Count your blessings, ask for forgiveness and become a productive and less angried USA citizen. Allow your pain and disappointment to be healed. Those who voted for President-Elect Obama, stop your gloating and bearing your chest as if you’ve achieved some great feat. Our country is in dire straits. Pray for help to change our hearts from the hurt and pain we all feel at one time or another. Ask God to help us accept the things we can’t change or don’t understand. He will mend our broken spirit and contrite hearts. PJTurner

Congratulations, Senator Obama (to become President-Elect Obama when Congress accepts the electors’ votes, and President Obama come January 20th).
I just hope my fears about a Obama administration, supported by strong majorities in the House and Senate, are unfounded.

Comments on Election 2008 by E. A. Smythe
Congratulations to President Elect Barak Obama and Vice President Elect Joe Biden.
Congratulations to Obama-Biden 2008 Election Team and the Voumteers of Obama-Biden 2008.
Bridges are being built and fences are being mended. Metaphorically Speaking.
All this talk about people treating other people by their outward appearance , the colour of a person skin, like for example the reluctance to invite Booker T. Washington to the Whitehouse shows how environmental upbringing and indoctrination influences choices by people from all walks of life in their day to day living. The HOLY BIBLE says that God created mankind ( Genesis 2) and it goes on to say that when Samuel the prophet was looking for a new King to replace King Saul in 1Samuel chapter 16, that ,(to paraphrase , Samuel, representing the choice factor of mankind, had the wrong perspective; Samuel wanted to choose a king acceptable to the Nation of Israel, but God had different ideas. God’s ways are past finding out. God told Samuel:
“…The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart. ….” ( 1 Samuel 16 verse 7).(New International Version).
AFTER reading the above , and then looking at the election of the 44th President of the United States of America, in November 2008, we are reminded of the words of Martin Luther King, in his “..I have a dream speech, said :
“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. ..” ( Martin Luther King ) .
The level of maturity of American Politics has demonstrated to the world that Race Relations in America is maturing as defined in the United States Constitution “ …… ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL…” . Errol Smythe.

Has anyone seen the cover of JET Magazine. If this election had nothing to do with race than why does the cover state “We Won” Who is “we?” I didn’t know this was the blacks against the whites??? I wish that was discussed during the election instead of using the term “Change” in Obama’s campaign because I bet the election would have definitely turned out differently if he had.

Those who beleive that God is no respector of persons, that Christ blood was shed for all humans, Pray for our entire government..thse who profess Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour …all of a sudden..Barack will have to prove that he is worthy….HMMM..Was that said about previous presidents??…probably not…The God that I serve does not think less of a black person, than a white person….but some men do and they are often in the church…Everyone has their own mind and thinks for himself…soem of you watch to much tv and are quick to beleive the racsit and sterotypical remarks by some. Barack is a very wise and intelligent man and capable of running the country. AGAIN!!! PRay that GOD continue to give wisdom, Guidance………..Peace!
