Secretary of State Hillary Clinton?

There’s a lot of buzz in DC about the fact that the Obama Transition Team is, according to one knowledgeable source, "very serious" about Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., being under consideration for secretary of state.

ABC News can confirm that President-elect Barack Obama met with Clinton Thursday afternoon at Obama’s downtown office in Chicago.

The AP first broke the news and reported that the motorcade of Clinton, who receives Secret Service protection as a former first lady, was seen leaving the office complex shortly before Obama left for the day.

George Stephanopoulos reported Clinton’s name being in the mix last week on "Good Morning America," but the buzz grew louder after Clinton was spotted boarding a flight to Chicago.

Her spokesman Philippe Reines would not discuss Clinton’s schedule, and of course, the Obama Transition Team would not comment.

The thinking about a Secretary of State Clinton is simple, I’m told: she’s smart, she’s strong, she’s experienced, she’s a team player, she is usually pretty diplomatic, and she also brings some gender diversity to an Obama Team concerned about such matters.

She brings instant stature to the job, one Democrat told me. Many world leaders have known her for almost two decades.

"Clinton is the gold standard around the world," said Chris Lehane, a former spokesman for Vice President Al Gore.

There are drawbacks, of course. Her husband Bill Clinton’s vast and varied international business dealings and relationships, which have put him at odds with her policy positions.

And of course, she and Obama famously and repeatedly clashed over international issues during their contentious primaries. She assailed as "naive" his willingness to speak to the leaders of hostile regimes without preconditions, and she assailed as reckless his public discussions about his willingness to attack high-value terrorist targets in Pakistan with or without Pakistan government permission.

Obama "basically threatened to bomb Pakistan, which I don’t think was a particularly wise position to take," Clinton said at the Democratic debate in Cleveland, Ohio, Feb. 26.

Most ugly, probably was the Tuzla sniper fire incident. Clinton erroneously claimed about a trip to Tuzla, Bosnia: "I remember landing under sniper fire. There was supposed to be some kind of a greeting ceremony at the airport, but instead, we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base."

That was later proven false, and Clinton acknowledged "misspeaking."

Countered the Obama campaign’s Tommy Vietor: "Senator Clinton said that a planned welcoming ceremony was cancelled because they needed to avoid sniper fire, but news footage shows that she was met by a small child who read her a poem. Contrary to the latest spin from the Clinton campaign, when you make a false claim that’s in your prepared remarks, it’s not misspeaking, it’s misleading, and it’s part of a troubling pattern of Senator Clinton inflating her foreign policy experience."

Ouch. Harsh words for one’s Secretary of State.

But no doubt that’s water under the bridge. In Boca Raton in May, Obama — asked by a vote if he would consider putting Clinton on the ticket — said, "I’m a practical-minded guy. And, you know, one of my heroes is Abraham Lincoln. And a while back there was a wonderful book written by Doris Kearns Goodwin called ‘Team of Rivals.’"

The book, Obama said, discussed how "Lincoln basically pulled in all the people who had been running against him into his Cabinet because whatever personal feelings there were, the issue was how can we get this country through this time of crisis. And I think that has to be the approach that one takes, whether it’s vice president or Cabinet, whoever."

Clinton spoke at a New York State Mass Transit Fall Convention today, but declined to comment on her meeting with Obama.

If Sen. clinton is the gold standard around the world, maybe she should have been president.
I was always for sen. clinton, but when she went with obama, so did i.
i agree she is top notch.
I know she will be able to help the country in whatever position she is in.
and if she wants to she can still be our first woman president.
she is smart as a whip, and she knows her business.
she was handled badly in her campaign,
but it has been good for her image overall,
we will always want and will need to know what Sen. Hillary R. Clinton thinks about the world and its ills.
she is just that: top notch, gold standard.

She would be a great pick. She would be a smart addition to his cabinet.

Posted by: Brenda | November 13, 2008, 11:30 pm 11:30 pm

if given truth serum, most people would reveal they are really in awe of sen.clinton, and maybe sometimes just a little jealous.
she is not bad looking
she is very smart
she is articulate
sharp wit
and she decided to try and make a difference with her life in this world
and she is at the top of her game.
who wouldn’t write nasty things about someone trying to do well and succeed.
yep, she has had a cheating man in her life. many women have, and she
chose to stay with him, many woman have done the same.
Just as gloria st. said, if hillary is not our first female president. then we will not have one.
there are surely many women with rising stars out there, dem and rep.
but none like sen. clinton.
she is so smart, the others need her to set the standard for the second female president.

neeb,
you must be blind and crazy,
first of all
sen.clinton is not a dog.
second, the only place i have ever seen a lying, cheating dog, is on one of those black velvet pictures from the seventie.
they are human being…just like,you?

We got Obama rather than McCain, which is great considering the disasterous alternative.
But don’t expect much change from Obama. He might not have been in DC long, but he is as much “business as usual” as anyone there is.

If obama dont get the automakers solvent, get the economy up and going,if the gov dont help the auto-makers,this means thousands of lay-offs added to the problems we have now.they may not survive the first 4 yrs and that could possibley be all for barack, maybe he should have put his senate seat on hold till 2012!

Posted by: SC SUPERMAN | November 13, 2008, 11:44 pm 11:44 pm

Where is Obama’s Birth Certificate. NOT until he first proves he is eligible to be President should he bother picking people for gov offices. He may not become President. He has not been elected by the Electoral College.
The story broke today that his registration for the selective service may be forged. Nothing about this man is the truth.

I think Obama supporters must be scratching their heads. Obama is changing his constituency. In 2008 he ran bringing in the minority vote, the white liberal and disaffected voters (union members) and so on. In 2012 he will be running as the establishment candidate where he will be assured a victory (majority white and a large percentage of minority voters). The loser? Will be all those who supported him in 2008 thinking they were getting a revolution.

It’s interesting to read these comments. I am not alone in thinking that Hillary Clinton, love or hate her (and I love her), is absolutely fascinating. And, I agree with one of the comments that her campaign, while bruising and poorly-managed, was a moment where she shone. Where people actually got to know her…as a touch, formidable, never, ever give up fighter. She became a folk hero in that campaign.
I didn’t really take to her until I saw the bruising treatment she was being given in the press, by the other campaign, by Obamabots in my liberal town, and so on. The woman couldn’t get a break. And, I don’t know why so many hated her. But, she fought. Obama’s campaign was much better orchestrated, and it was more modern and image-rhetoric conscious, for sure. But, she was the better campaigner.

Oh dear Gawd, NO. Not Hillary! Clinton’s have a tendency to permeate every crevice in order to serve themselves. And it would be hard to trust her with Secretary of State, in leu of the fact she still has her eyes set on making history in 2012.
CHUCK HAGEL, right on! COLIN POWELL – Yes! WESTLEY CLARK – Great!! Offer Hillary the Supreme Court where they can hold her accountable for integrity. Or better yet, health care….

That is a ridiculously self-serving statement. People who detest her do not find her fascinating. That is like the Palin-philes saying the skewering of Palin is somehow complimentary.

she is a team player indeed, in the respect that she’s not the vice president-in which case she might be tempted to undercut him-. But i think she’s highly qualified for the post, knows her way around the world and calls in raw knowledge of the world and diplomatic, but not as much managerial skills-which she’s sorely lacking-. One more think. It insures that we have a more even-handed approach to governing domestically while minding the international community. Just keep gates at the defense and send hillary at state. focus really well on treasury and healthcare. Indeed the only obstacle would be bill. g-sh it would be hard for them to fill out these questionnaires. so, there’s a slight chance she might not go for it. so far, im impressed with what im seeing out of him.

Basically, he’s basically bringing on board nobody at present that even resembles a centric stance, yet taking on all divisive and extreme characters on the left. How exactly is he going to get the other half of the country on board? Oh, wait, I forgot, he doesn’t care because he and Hillary will crush any opposing voice.

In what evil parallel world would it be a good idea to put the Anti-Christ in charge of our diplomacy? HC is the hound from hell who damaged Obama more than the Republicans on foreign policy — and she did it in an obvious effort to cripple his candidacy enough that he could never win in November, thus ensuring she could run in 2012. She’s only in this for herself, not her party, not her country. We cannot afford any more self-aggrandizing jerks in our government right now.

Hillary can run the country, as Obama is not a “natural-born” american. Obama will never be sworn in as president, as he is a citizen of Indonesia. Eighteen lawsuits against Obama, two are now in the Supreme Court!!!

primarywatcher Integrity? Yeah,
let’s put Colin Powell in because his speech to the UN was hard to beat when it comes to integrity. Powell is far too intelligent and experienced to have not known the score and what was going on and yet he gave the speech. Obama supporters crucified Clinton for her Iraq vote (the same vote that Biden and Kerry made) and expected her to apologize and yet Powell, who personally approached Senator’s such as Clinton and encouraged them to make that vote because it would avert a war-
he’s the one with integrity. I have yet to have heard an apology from Powell about his part but I guess all is forgiven because he was the “good soldier”.

There will be a big shakeup regarding Obama in the near future. His illegal status will be uncovered and Obama will be deported. Hillary may be the next president.
There are court proceedings all over this country about Obama and his “sealed” original birth certificate, all the way to the Supreme Court.

Speaking as a Brit, I haven’t read anyone else’s comments because I don’t want to get into a biased fight, but in my opinion Hilary would make a formidable Sectary of State, on one of the websites I run we officially endorsed Hilary for President earlier this year but were rather embarrassed when she ‘misspoke’ however are politicians not allowed to make mistakes? -she DOES have a lot of respect worldwide, & if any major power –especially in Europe heard Hilary was coming to town they would be massively excited and scared at the same time -I mean she is seen virtually as the unofficial Queen of America, clearly she wants it bad, I think she has a passion to serve the people of the USA [she’s stuck to her guns over health issues for decades] only matched by Obama , personally I think Jo Biden is a weak VP & John Kerry lacks the charisma Hilary has & as long as Bill enjoys his retirement quietly, Hilary would shine, let’s not forget she was front runner for a long time, I hate to say it but given her age I doubt she will run for President again, this is her last best hope & I hope Obama has the Humility to recognize this & use arguably his greatest potential asset.

“I mean she is seen virtually as the unofficial Queen of America”
——————————–
I can understand how that could be perceived, given the popularity of Bill and the Brit acceptance of a queen. But she is just another female politician here, although one of the more influential ones.
When the primaries began, she was the presumptive Democratic candidate for President, and could not hold that position. It will not get easier for her in politics.

absolutely not.
as secretary of state she would become the fall girl any failures of the upcoming administration which will be facing enormous challenges.
this administration would tarnish her legacy and diminish her 2012 aspirations.
do not trust them hillary this is a trojan horse.

I hope she takes it, if only to tick Bill Richardson off. He betrayed her with his eye on that job, the sleazeball. It would be the return of the Knife In The Back that he gave to Bill and Hill, the disloyal toad.
The Obama Administration DOES need some adult supervision, because Obama’s attitude towards some nations hostile to the US is blatantly naive. He isn’t transmitting openness, he’s transmitting WEAKNESS.
Clinton, on the other hand, transmits STRENGTH.
He needs her more than she needs him, though….

Clinton is smart and tough, granted. However, I have not seen much in the way of statesmanship during the campaigns. I do not believe she has the temperament for the job. She would not bring the kind of confidence and hope that Obama’s picks should inspire around the world. Please give her something else.

I don’t think Hillary will win the Presidentcy at least within the next 8 yrs… She would likely be deemed “too old” after 8 yrs… Taking the job of Secretary of State will be the pinnacle of her political career. I think an excellent choice would be between her and Bill Richardson…

If Hillary accepts Secretary of State, that would leave Bill Richardson out of a job after his term as Governor ends, and it would be a great way to get back at him for stabbing the Clintons on the back.
Anyway, with Obama’s new criteria of hiring his cabinet employees, Bill Richardson does not meet the required qualifications, since he was born of an illegal (undocumented) mother. Richardson’s father was not a U.S. citizen, nor a lawful permanent resident, because he never lived in the U.S.

Why would a health-care specialist be chosen when there are so many specialists in foreign relations available?
He has chosen very qualified people for each job so far, why would he blow Secreatary of State?
There are plenty of roles more suitable for Senator Clinton.

even if hillary chose not to pursue 2012 options, ending her career as a senator would secure her legacy. taking a risk with an inexperienced (american idol) president elect is a risky political move for hillary and for the nation.
i am certain that hillary is astute enough to distance herself.

US Judge rejects Obama-born-in-Kenya claim
SHARE BOOKMARKPRINTEMAILRATING
By KEVIN KELLEY, Nation Correspondent in the USPosted Sunday, October 26 2008 at 14:31
A US federal judge on Friday rejected a lawsuit claiming Senator Barack Obama is ineligible to seek the presidency because he was either born in Kenya or is a citizen of Indonesia.
The US Constitution requires that a person be born in the United States and be a citizen of the country in order to be eligible to serve as president.
Judge Richard Barclay Surrick ruled that Philip Berg, an attorney in the state of Pennsylvania, lacked standing to bring such a suit.
The claim filed by Mr Berg, a supporter of Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, is one of several desperate attempts by Senator Obama’s opponents to block what appears to be his increasingly likely victory at the polls on November 4.
Segments of the US right wing will be disappointed by the court decision thwarting this move to depict Senator Obama as less than an authentic American.
Many of the same extremists have sought to link Senator Obama closely to Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who is portrayed by Obama-haters as both a communist and a supporter of radical Islam.
Senator Obama has posted on his campaign Website a birth certificate showing that he was born in the state of Hawaii in 1961 to Ann Dunham, an American woman, and Barack Obama Snr, a Kenyan who was studying at the University of Hawaii at the time. Following their divorce, Ms Dunham married an Indonesian man.
“I am totally disappointed by Judge Surrick’s decision and, for all citizens of the United States, I am immediately appealing to the US Supreme Court,” Mr Berg said in a statement following Friday’s ruling.
It is not clear whether the Supreme Court will review Mr Berg’s plea for a hearing prior to the November 4 election

Posted by: FeelSorryForSarah | November 14, 2008, 6:37 am 6:37 am

Prophet1 -factcheck only deals with the short form, not the long form of the birth certificate. All Obama has to do is request the long form & publish it..yet he refused to..why? And why did Kenya seal all records in their country if there is nothing there?
Back on topic…. as much as I did not want Hillary to be President, I think she would be an excellent choice for Secretary of State. THAT is a position that suits her skills perfectly.

To Jon Above,
Two examples of Presidents who were considered inexperienced–Lincoln and Kennedy.
I doubt very much that the color of Obama’s skin had a great deal to do with this election–and, I would point out its only half black to start with. It had much more to do with 1) a strong desire to get rid of what we had in the White House 2) A consistent message from Obama (as opposed to John McCain’s crazy quilt approach) and 3) A man who seems unflappable in a crisis with impressive credentials in terms of education and background.

dl: If Obama is so effective why does he need Clinton’s people to train him on how to be a second Clinton. He will never be a Bill Clinton even if he is office for eight years. He needs extensive training. Clinton became the president without training because he was former governor. Obama was nothing but a senator missing 145 days. Hillary is ten times smarter than him and that’s why he needs her. Biden is just another pebble on the beach. You can find that type anywhere.

Posted by: Mariann Pepitone | November 14, 2008, 7:56 am 7:56 am

What: Hillary learned all she knows thru her husband Bill. She had good training for eight long years which she could pass on to Obama who needs extensive training. That’s why he needs form Clinton people. They have the experience he hasn’t learned yet but he is taking all the credit for it.

totally
everyone thinks her strength was foreign policy…
because they were comparing it to Obama…because she had met these leaders…and she was around Bill for so many years
those attributes don’t necessarily transpose to President…
but they are HUGE for Sec of State
Hillary’s strengths were domestic policy issues… which she and Obama agreed on almost all of to the crossing of the t’s…(outside Hillary was to the left of him on healthcare)…
but if she was Sec of State…if she wanted to run in 2016… and she could… her gravitas at that point woukld be undeniable
she takes a risk that the next 8 years will be
but if she agrees to be Sec of State she must believe she thinks the outlook for what they may accomplish is pretty good.

since the the primaries …you do not understand the job of President.
Obama is picking the best people for the job.
Bill Clinton did a few things really well
his timing of cabinet choices was not so good…because he took so long picking them…but his choices were very good…because he took that time picking them.
Only an idiot would say that Obama would show more ability by not picking BILL Clinton’s personnel to help him.
Obama is showing he puts the nation and ability on the actual job… above rivalry.
and you don’t get that.
it takes brains to get that…you must have some…after all the bologne you put up for so long during the primaries…don’t you think it is time to start using them.

Posted by: dl | November 14, 2008, 8:05 am 8:05 am

to all those trashing the Clintons
I was not a Hillary fan during the primaries. They were tireless and unrestricted campaigners… over actual ability for what we needed now …in my opinion.
Obama is the change. Everyone he hires has to follow his lead … it’s the law. He is picking people to challenge him…not the “yes” people we have had for 8 to arguably 25 years…
and Hillary will challenge him with biden in private…but anyone thinking this team is not looking like a “justice league” lol…
well doesn’t understand the balance between change and knowledge of history and the world…
but there is no better choice for that Sec of state position in the world right now than Hillary Clinton.
The job of Sec of State is to go into rooms and get on the phone with leaders of other countries and brink enough weight and gravitas and listening and respect…
to be able to negotiate.
No one will look like a better representative for the US and Obama…
than Hillary…
as Aristotle argued about debate and winning an argument
she brings ethos pathos and logos…with an emphasis on pathos.
Obama brings ethos pathos and logos with an emphasis on ethos (and logos…and actually now pathos)
and Biden brings ethos pathos and logos
with a big emphasis on logos.
This is becoming a mighty team if she accepts.

dl: Don’t you understand the word change. Or did he mean changing a white president to a half black president. Of course he needs people smarter than him because he doesn’t know what he should have known about politics and foreign policy when he was a senator missing 145 days. Biden knows ten times more than Obama does. The Clinton people are smarter than he is. Let’s face it. He will never be a Bill Clinton because he doesn’t have that quality. And I would never vote for a candidate that had been a racist white hating anti-american who had close ties to William Ayers who was interviewed on GMA this morning. you do not understand change …doesn’t mean throwing out smart people…just for the sake of changing people.
Obama is a different process.
Bill Clinton was smart but he was missing something…he would even admit.
There were mistakes
the smart change is to have those people who were close to those mistakes…but who didn’t make them personally (necessarily) around you.
Obama is showing a clear ability to rise up above the campaigning and bologne and pick the best…
and that may be a lot of people from BILL Clinton’s cabinet…
He surrounds himself with smart people
but any idiot who says he is not going to be one of the most logical judiscious, and thoughtful Presidents we have seen in a lifetime… is ignoring the past 2 years.

Posted by: dl | November 14, 2008, 8:24 am 8:24 am

if Obama picks Clinton it clearly shows 2 really great signs…
1. it is not all about him and his ego
2. he makes decisions on ability…not bologne.
a VERY GOOD sign for the next 8 years.

She’s definitely qualified for the job. It shows an unusual temperment to be able to put behind the animosity of the campaign if he chooses her – definitely a ‘forgive and forget’ mentality. I’m not sure I would be able to do the same, personally, but then again that’s why I don’t have his job.

While I think she’d present a good face to the rest of the world, I think Senator Clinton would be better on the Supreme Court.
The State Department is enormous and demands someone with first rate management skills. Neither Senator Clinton’s presidential campaign nor her handling of the health care plan during her husband’s first term demonstrated much management competence.

Yes, Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State is a fantastic choice. The U.S. needs Hillary (& Bill Clinton) to navigate through the web of international politics. They’re both smart, schmoozers with a desire to do what’s best for our country, while keeping an eye toward helping others in need.

Posted by: Reston, VA | November 14, 2008, 8:47 am 8:47 am

Secretary of State HC? Yes, all the way. Supreme court? Later.
Right now, WE need all the help we can muster to put our Nation back in order. We got a good start with Obama. His placement of cabinet members has been well thought out and don’t forget that. He’s systimatic and he thinks things through. I wouldn’t be surprised if during the campaigning against her he already thought if he won, he’d want her as close as possible. makes all kind of good sense. BUT then we have Bill and his international do’s and dont’s. He’s patriotic. He’ll do what he has to do. He’s walked a tight rope plenty of times. No problem. …………I hope with all my heart he puts Clinton in. She’s smart etc etc etc. Good choice

Now that the election is over, why not give President elect Obama a chance instead of being so negative! He is choosing people with brains and effectiveness to lead our country. Would you rather have seen Senator McCain and -God Forbid–Sarah Palin, who still is speaking negatively about Obama, even tho the election is over and she even says she will be willing to help Obama if he asks!! Can you believe her??? I totally agree with dl that Hilary Clinton would be a great pick for Sec. of State. She is a very intelligent woman. You say Obama promised change in Washington–Don’t you want change in Washington? I have lost 1/3 of my retirement savings during the Bush administration–we need change from Bush!! The Clinton years were not that bad-why is everyone so negative with everything Obama is trying to do? Give him a chance! And—Carmen-you mentioned his mother-in-law moving into the White House–who better to be right there to help with their girls than Grandma!! I think that is a wonderful idea–The Obama’s are thinking what will be best for the country and for their family, as well. Let’s all get together with this and try to get our country back to being the greatest country in the world–STOP THE NEGATIVITY!!

This has been going on for 60 years….they’re all to blame. I do give JFK some credit for wanting to stick it to the Federal reserve, a short time before he died.(FED RESERVE = a private organization). Look where it got him!
Don’t tell me about the Great Clinton years…they set this whole economy thing up.

While I am certainly not one of Hilary’s biggest fans, I do think she could add something pretty special to the new administration. If not the SoS, then how about putting her in charge of the national health project – one that is indeed very dear to her and one that I feel that she could do a great job with. Let’s allow Obama to make his choices as he deems appropriate. He’s a smart man and he will do what is best for our country, not for his own ego.

I could also see Senator Clinton on the Court but Judge Sotomayor brings a wealth of judicial experience. Sen. I was sick to my stomach this morning when I saw Bill Ayers on ABC… I do not understand how this criminal is walking free. Why have we not charged him with treason?
He is a terroist and teaching in a university? Why has he not been stripped of his U.S. citizenship and deported to one of those countries he defends so much?
It was sickening for ABC to give this idiot airtime and giving him opportunity to promote his book (not surprising considering the biased coverage during the campaign).
To think that our soldiers gave their life for this moron to be free in this country makes me sick.
There should be an investigation and this idiot and his wife should be in JAIL. Period.

Of course there are campaign trail goofs to put aside and a Clinton Legacy pocked with the residue of conservative smear but I think Hillary supporters out there will be listening and highly approving, especially after that “news” that exit polls showed Hillary would have beat McCain by a higher percentage.

Whatever happened to the token hispanic Bill Richardson? Obama shoved him aside like yesterday’s headline.
Don’t get me wrong…I supported Obama and donated money to him but in the summer it became apparent to me he was just one more politician. Washington has changed him already and he hasn’t even been sworn in yet. I guess his dreams have gone there to die along with the rest of Americas if he puts this woman in as secretary of state.

Posted by: Hillary Who | November 14, 2008, 10:46 am 10:46 am

I can understand why anyone would be inclined to ask her to do this job. She really is uniquely qualified to be SoS and in a position to be effective in a way that no other person could be.
What concerns me is that she will do it because she is asked, when I am not certain that it is best for her professionally or personally and I am not certain it is good for the Democratic Party or in the long term, for President Obama.
People still act like they are rivals They are not. He is President and she will probably not ever run again. She is very useful to him in the Senate, not only to push through legistation but to raise money for the campaigns of other Democratic candidates, thereby helping to maintain a majority. Should she really walk away from that for a job he could get someone else to do? One of the things that was great for Obama as a candidate was the fact that he politicals stars like Bill and Hillary to go out and campaign for him and for other Democratic candidates. McCain and the Republicans didn’t have that and they won’t have it in the Bushes.

Posted by: Stephanie | November 14, 2008, 10:48 am 10:48 am

How insane is Washington? Hillary, “I was fired on in Bosnia” for secretary of state and the jerks McCain and Graham meeting with Obama to discuss the upcoming Senate strategy. Didn’t McCain and Graham already sell out Republican conservatives enough? To conservative republicans, “Dump these bums” and embrace hard core conservatism or else leave the loser GOP and join a conservative party that has a future not the liberal Bush-McCain GOP.

Funny thing – there WAS an investigation years ago. His actions, when the FACTS and REALITY were actually known and considered, were deemed not treason nor suitable for a 30+ year jail sentence. Thanks to a little bit of paper called the Constitution, people are not imprisoned based on lies and exaggerated smears made up during about them during a campaign, no matter how fervently partisans chose to believe them.

Sad that we have so many small-minded, my-country-right-or wrong so-called citizens in the United States. This world will never have peace as long as those entrenched in their own narrow views exist. Even the truth doesn’t sway them. They are intent on thinking a certain lop-sided way on every issue. Bill Ayers handled the situation just right — he stayed out of the limelight until the election was a done deal! He did not want to contribute to the false hysteria created by people who could not find enough direct dirt on Barack Obama, so all they could do was look at his associates. Would you like to go to prison because your brother killed a man? Would you take responsibility for his crime? I’m certain the answers are no, and no. Consequently, why should Barack Obama be expected to take responsibility for the actions of Ayers, when he was not even old enough to be aware of The Weather Underground? And, of course it is possible to have a luncheon or dinner in your home for a person running for public office — without knowing the candidate. I get E-mails all the time from various factions asking whether I would be willing to have a campaign party, or attend one. It’s merely citizens participating in the political process — just as Bill Ayers did when he had an event in his home, when Barack Obama was running for a seat in the Illinois Senate. You don’t have to know the candidate at all in order to sponsor a tea for them. All you have to be is a supporter, which is what Bill Ayers was.

You should bring Ayers and his interview this morning to GMA, remember that Hillary brought that up in one of the debates.
Ayers this morning didn’t even apologize for the bombings, for him that was just a simple way to protest against the war. Go figures!
It’s obvious that all those people are coming out of the closet now that Obama got elected: Farrakhan, Ayers, Bernadette, etc.

As a former registered Republican, the posters who continue to bring infantile ranting against Mr. Obama care nothing for our nation. The FACT that the Republican party brought “honey bunz” before us as a choice is absolutely insulting. I am SO ANGRY that the party thinks so little of the electorate’s intellect, they felt that we could be duped so easily.
Even as she continues her; “Hello! My name is Sarah!” show, she continually demonstrates how inept she is. Additionally, she confirms how nasty and divisive she can be! Dear Ms. Palin; I am NOT a blogger sitting in the basement of my mother’s house! I am a CEO in NYC who cares dearly about my country and would willingly close it down if needed, to better my country.
I say, get over the party loyalty and realize how dangerous it could have been had the McCain/Palin ticket won. Maybe in 2012 Ms. Palin will be more suited,(I strongly doubt it–but that’s me), however she is very unqualified to assume such high office at this moment.
Grow up and stop trying to spread fear! Support President Obama as Democrats supported President Bush.

dave: “i can’t for wait for the right to give barry the socialist the same level of respect the left has given bush. ”
I certainly hope he gets the same level of congressional support Bush received early in his term. After 9/11/2001 Bush had unprecedented bipartisan support with Congress and was basically given a rubber stamp to impose his agenda for a good couple years. It was only after his demonstrated incompetence in Iraq that support started to turn, and ultimately it took the voters turning out the Republicans before he faced any Congressional resistance (as demonstrated by his unprecedented lack of vetos in his first term). If the record-setting-filibustering Senate Republicans extend anything like that support to Obama now, he’ll have little trouble putting in place the policies American’s voted for by a wide margin.
Claiming Bush received no Congressional Democrat support is not just a Big Lie, it is the opposite of reality – no president since FDR had a more compliant congress in his first term. That’s documented reality.

To all those who would make a mockery of “change.” Change often comes in the guise of people you physically recognize, with the intelligence to expedite policies in a different way. Obama’s choices for various posts have proven track records in their fields. They were there when the country was doing well. They will apply those same skills to the resurgence of our economy and the creation of policies that help those who for years have been overlooked. Some people simply are still smarting because McCain/Palin (thankfully) lost, and want something to complain about. At a time of crisis — new faces can be just as scary as the old, because we don’t know their capabilities at all — until the fallout. Furthermore, if they don’t do their jobs, they can be replaced!

dave: “I think you mean how almost all the democrats said “yes I voted for the war before I was against it”. Of course they changed their tune closer to election day. That’s what democrats do. ”
No. They DID vote for it. They DID support and pass almost every legislative agenda Bush put forward – from tax cuts to the Iraq war to the prescription drug benefit (yes, that came FROM a Republican administration). Bush DID NOT have to use the veto because Congress was completely compliant to his requests.
The FACTS, which are well documented, is that the Democrats in Congress supported Bush’s agenda with little resistance during his first term. I’m not sure how what they say and spin now has any impact on the DOCUMENTED RECORD of them passing Bush’s agenda in his first term.
If you want to support your argument with REALITY please cite portions of President Bush’s first term agenda that were not passed by Congress due to Democrat’s not “respecting” him. I repeat that I agree with your statement “i can’t for wait for the right to give barry the socialist the same level of respect the left has given bush” – I hope the Republican Congress allows him to implement his first term policies the same way the Democratic Congress is ON RECORD as having allowing Bush to implement his first term policies.

becky (the real one) — I think Bill Richardson or Colin Powell would be great, too. I’m okay with Hillary, but I don’t prefer her to the aforementioned.
One thing that the Clinton’s and their supporters were so successful at is blaming her missteps on Obama. She is the one who told so many lies, and slung such disgusting mud his way. She and Bill were the one’s who nearly destroyed their legacies. Barack Obama is handing them a rope. And that Bill mentions constantly the fact that Hillary has done more for Barack Obama than any other rival in history, well while that may be true, those of us who think know that it was as much to repair the damage they did to themselves — thanks to their dirty campaigning.

I find it very funny how you guys don’t hold Bush responsible at all for this mess that the United States is in. Can you not remember how hard he pushed for the war? Can you not remember how hard he pushed for this bail out. With out conditions on both. He is going to do what he wants when he wants. He has deregulated every thing he can, he has given companies huge tax breaks even when they leave and take our jobs with them. It does not matter who is in congress or in the house, the buck stops at his door. He was a waste 8 years ago and he has proven that highly.

What’s with all the “completely left-wing” stuff?
The Clintons were centrists. They represent the “DLC Wing” of the Democratic Party, as opposed to the “Democratic Wing” represented by Paul Wellstone and Howard Dean.
Actual liberal Democrats have always been critical of the Clinton wing for their coziness with big business, and their past support for free trade agreements.
During this year’s primaries, Clinton was seen as the candidate of the Old White People. She basically said as much.
So, it does not make much sense to point to a potential Secretary of State Clinton as proof of a “completely left-wing” Obama Administration are pretty uninformed.
BTW- my recollection is that, at best, Republican Administrations appoint a Democrat to Transportation Secretary.

Ayers isnt relevant news when the economy is in the tank & 2 wars are being fought.
I watched ABC’s interview & the interviewer tried shamelessly to connect Ayers with Obama in a closer relationship then actually existed. Irresponsible at best! If this reporter had ever served on a board he’d realize that most relationships on boards are working relationships..not social relationships. Further had he investigated, even on a cursory level, how political coffee parties are organized he’d also have learned that often times the candidate doesnt know or barely knows the host/hostess of the event…they are often merely supporters of the party. Perhaps he needs to go back to the school of journalism and relearn how investigative journalism works!!

I think it was the democrats who pretty much melted away any lending standards set by banks and big mortgage companies. But under the guise of “fairness” the socialist dems have screwed us all..
Also, why wouldn’t companies leave the US? The US has some of highest corporate tax in the world? Now Barry wants to raise it even higher- that’s gonna be a real big jump starter for our economy!!!!

Whatever anyone may think of HRC, SHE LOVES HER COUNTRY. From a young woman, she has never faltered from that. The bottom line here is that we had a 2 year campaign and that’s a lot of time to sling mud, and mud was slung. But he election is now over, we have President-Elect Barack Obama. He won because he is brilliant, he rose above everything that was thrown his way, he stuck to the issues and came out the winner. HRC was never far behind him. If we think back many of their speeches we will recall want they want for our country are the same things. Middle Class America was on top of both their lists . While many may say she did not immediately get up and get on the trail for Barack and find fault with that, I think in the same position we all would have needed some space to re-group. Once the dust settled she was able to get out there and campaign as she always does, with her all. As far as SOS, just as we trusted and elected Barack Obama, we must trust his choice of the people he puts at his side. Yes we want change, but there are positions in the administration that require experience or the change will never come about. HRC has a lot to offer, she can look back to the times mistakes were made and offer suggestions for a better way. In the end we must never lose sight of who the boss is, President-Elect Barack Obama. One thing we should not allow to happen, in party fighting. The Republicans do enough of that for the entire country. We want peace not war and while we may not always agree, we do agree to disagree. We should all be putting our energy into a new energy plan not using it up picking apart fellow supporters.

The Congress had a terrible report card — Democrats and Republicans because of the GOP. The Democrats, who took over in 2006 had a bold agenda, but were obstructed every time by Republicans. Sadly, they were viewed as one do-nothing body. Republicans love to say “Congress’s approval rating is even worse than the President’s, but they didn’t bother to say why!

I am saddened by the prospect of Hilliary Clinton being Secretary of State. While I admire her tenacity and her intellect, she ever proven her experience in foreign affairs. Despite this fact, I would be willing to take a chance on her if she and her husband were more trust-worthy and had more class. They have always been about themselves. She was willing to promote the status-quo rather than the people when she began campaigning, and gave the Republicans a perfect playbook (Thank God they bungled it)in which to win the election against a fellow Democrat so that she could come back in 2012. She was also as divisive as the Republicans were and was willing to leave a divided nation and the Democratic Party in tatters to win. I will never forget it. A lot of hand-twisting on the part of prominant Democrats, deals to have Barack to help pay for her campaign, Ted Kennedy getting out of his hospital bed to address the Democratic convention, and perhaps the promise of this appointment, are the only things that kept Billary in check. Secretary of Health, maybe. Secretary of State, never.

I’m not surprised that you go too far in your assessment of my little post. For the record, most Americans agree with Cindy Sheehan about the Iraq war — that it should never have been waged. I’m also not surprised that you equate the Iraq War with 9/11. Remember, the 9/11 bombers were SAUDIS, as is their leader OSAMA BIN LADEN! It was proven by the UN commission, et al that there were no WMDs in Iraq, and that Saddam Hussein was too egotistical to allow any other terrorist on his soil, but himself. If after all the exposure the Iraq war debacle has received, it’s very wrong-headedness, you maintain the view that 9/11 and the invasion of Iraq are somehow related, there’s no point in trying to have a lucid conversation with you. You’re deliberately and permanently blind.

Well, considering her is brilliant. I mean, if he does appoint her he could keep her at bay for running for president for 2012 and just make it look like he’s primarily rewarding her for helping him run for president. I mean it wouldn’t necessarily be deceptive, but it’d be a layered decision- Hillary is not stupid. She’s substantive and could be of great asset. There are better qualified people, I believe, but I doubt there is anyone who is as ambitious as Clinton. Besides if and when Hillary decides to run in the future she could always hearken back to her days in the Obama administration which I would be sure she’d try to help be as successful as can be, especially if she is a part.

Also as recent as the Clinton administration is. I find it very hard to imagine that anyone with any experience hasn’t served in any of those 2 terms. How can Obama get anything done with plain fresh-faced people who have no experience in an administration whatsoever? Change will happen, but as for getting things done and substance- sometimes it requires a little compromise. To all you bloggers that keep mentioning William Ayers who cares. I lived in the 70′s and we were people that were passionate about our ideas and sometime those ideas clashed with our government. I for one think that William Ayers was a man passionate about the Vietnam war and didn’t agree with how the government handled it and yes he made some bad choices but he is a respected professor now. Leave this alone we the American People choose not to believe the hype that was brought up in the election. Move on.

Obama would hire her to answer 3 a.m. call from foreign countires… and she
must refuse. She will be busy overseas and no one to give him a hardtime in congress – there are 56 senators – a cool majority. Hillary still has few who would go with her – at least 10 of those and congress would be minority democrates – to oppose Obama every step of the way… Good Move. Lets see how smart Hillary is in rejecting the offer… Remember Collin Powell was used on the same spot and so is Rice. She would be great fool to accept it – unless she is trying to prepare her daughter in to international politics

I wan tot respect my President, give him the benefit of the doubt, but selecting Hillary would be disastrous, and only ad salt to the woulds. Although Hilary would be okay at this job, it’s just a peace offering and frankly, I don’t want someone who gets this critical position by default.

Change is still going to happen. President Elect Obama just needs to get some hard hitting smart people in place to get this economy back on track and he can’t do that with inexperienced people. His agenda is to do the best possible job for the American people. For now, that means getting people involved that know what is going on and have a working knowledge of how to fix it.

Condoleeza and her co-horts who crafted the invasion of Iraq are considered to have failed. Hillary Clinton is immersely qualified to be Secretary of State. In this instance, however, if indeed she is interested in the job, I suspect she is doing it for two reasons: To block Richardson and Terry (her nemesis during the Primary nomination process and therefore sabotage their prospect) and to exercise power and be a world wide ambassador in a popular Obama adminstration. The question for Obama in this: Is it wise to ignore Richardson and Terry? At what cost?

Posted by: Dr. Sam | November 14, 2008, 2:10 pm 2:10 pm

While I like HRC and think she’d be a good candidate (though not necessarily head and shoulders above some) I wonder if this makes any sense in terms of her ambitions. Sec State will be done in 4 years or less. Look at historic tenure lines. It’s not a springboard for anything like the AG could be for SCOTUS. She’s got a long career ahead in the Senate. At 60 that’s a nice place to settle for 18 years+. Esp. if Obama does well, and she have to wait until 2016 for even a shot at 68. She be better off angling for Senate Majority — though that’s probably why Obama is considering her: short term stroke vs. long term rival….. Apologies to the myriad posters who have probably made these points already.

Hillary “Clinton name” maybe “a gold standard” but there are rogue countries out there that have not forgotten their encounters with her husband, President Bill Clinton. While in office, President Clinton fought against terrorism and that did not sit well with some factions of these countries, and they may seek revenge by trying to harm her in international stage. This is just a thought to be considered.

To suggest that George Bush had nothing to do with the current Housing crisis and that it’s all the Democrats fault an it goes back to Jimmy Carter is simply outrageous.
For the six years that Republicans were in total control of all three branches of goverment, deregulation of the mortgage industry escalated. Yes George Bush signed into law and agreed with deregulation policies way beyond what Bill Clinton ever dreamed of. That’s what allowed all of the exotic mortgage packages, that dupped alot of people, along with the mortgage backed securities that made them possible.
Greed my friend, Greed, a mantra of the Necon right this time around. Couple all of that with a Federal Reserve that was in bed with Mr. Bush and irresponsibly lowered interest rates to record lows that made the mortgage bubble possible and Walla! Come on get your facts in order. You can’t rewrite history no matter how hard you try.

You’ve got to be kidding! Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State? The very person who called senator Obama naïve for suggesting we seek diplomatic solutions to our international problems, even if that means talking to our enemies?
Everyone on this planet wants the same things; security, peace of mind, the opportunity to nurture and provide for their families. Threaten those simple human rights and they will rise up against the source of that threat. That includes overthrowing their own government if they realize it’s not operating in their best interests. Perhaps the Republicans learned that lesson a few weeks ago. Isn’t it common sense to not be the aggressor when dealing with these petty third world dictators, showing their citizens where the threat to those rights really exists, or should we continue acting like the schoolyard bully, giving their dictators a place to point their fingers?
I thought we elected a president who’s less worried about his place in history than he is about whether or not his daughters will have one? Now I hear talk about putting someone in charge who represents everything he’s against. Someone who laughed at his sophomoric ideas of how the world works. Someone who extended her campaign for the Presidential nomination past the point of having a mathematical chance of winning and doing significant damage to her opponent and political party in the process.
Hillary Clinton continued her campaign in order to increase the odds he’d be forced to select her as his Vice President, and Senator Obama solidified my support by passing her up. He’ll most certainly lose it if he demonstrates that the ideals he talked about during his campaign were as phony as those of his predecessor. More importantly, by placing her in such a critical position he will also undermine the confidence the international community has already demonstrated in his abilities.

I was hoping that during the Obama administration Hillary would be chosen as the person to lead the fight for a workable health care system. Hillary is probably about ten times smarter than Sarah Palin, ten times more patriotic and ten times less self centered and if she is chosen as Secretary of State I am sure she will do an outstanding job. About 10% of the people in these blogs think Sarah Palin can walk on water, 90% see her for what she really is. As for the 10% I have always hear there is a sucker born ever minute.

I would love to see Hillary take the Secretary of State job just to take it away from Bill Richardson who badly wants that job.
However, if Hillary has an ounce of respect and dignity for herself, she will not accept. Hillary would be a more powerful force if she remained as a Senator. Regardless of what decision Hillary makes, she will NEVER be POTUS. I think Hillary would have made the BEST Democratic POTUS of all time, but her campaign failed to plan beyond the Feb 5th elections.
Hillary can only be a role model for women with low or no self-esteem. Very sad to see what money and power does to people.

Posted by: Diana in California | November 14, 2008, 3:29 pm 3:29 pm

Hillary would be a fool to take State. Big-O does not want her in his administration. He would run foreign policy from the White House, not the State Department. It will be Bush and Colin Powell all over again. Powell was out of the loop on all major decisions, and was ignored when he tried to weigh in on the war. The only time Bush ever used Powell was to sell his war to the U.N. Powell did as he was told, thereby insuring he ended his career with no credibility.
By putting Hillary in State the O-Man gets rid of a rival, makes a show of unity, and sows the seeds for the final destruction of the Clintons.
Does Hillary really need this? I think not. She needs to make it known that she does not want the job. If she does not make negative noises now she will have to take the job if Big-O offers it publicly.

During the campaign, Clinton lambasted Obama because he stated that he would not hesitate to talk to our so called enemys. There were other differences betwen the two that are to numerous to print on this page. Now there are people out there that want Obama to pick Clinton as the SOS. If she would refuse to talk to America’s enemies as president, it is hard for me to believe that she would do a good job representing Obama’s interest as the SOS because that job requires that you talk to other countries to try an resolve differences.

My blood froze a few months ago when HRC spoke of obliteration Iran, giving voice to all the chosen-people demons that haunt us. But then would any promenant member of either party be much better? There should, however, be a position where she could play a positive role. Richardson should be seriously considered for sec of state.

Hillary for SoS. I think not. She Made a big to do during the campaign about Obama talking to our enemys and now they are selecting her to do just that. This person would be representing Obama’s interest. I dont believe that she will go out of her way to make Obama look good. She would be a bad choice…

Posted by: johnnylee | November 14, 2008, 3:47 pm 3:47 pm

Obama owes a great many people and his choice will be payback if it is Hillary, Kerry, Richardson or…?
K & R are low on the totem pole so Hillary would be a better choice!
But Obama’s application criterion is so rigid no one could possibly pass it – not even him! :)

I am not sure if the Secretary of State position, if given to Senator Clinton means anything other than passing the peace pipe to Clinton supporters. Such a move would certain be meaningful in solidify their support within the democratic party. In such a position, Senator Clinton would be a competent messenger, however, it would be Obama inter-circle actually running the show with foreign policy.
With that mind set in place, the Obama team should also seriously consider Senator John McCain for Secretary of Defense. McCain is very capable of actually cleaning up the weapons R&D commercialization pipeline and bringing efficiencies to the Pentagon. I am sure Vice President elect Biden would agree with the Clinton and McCain appointments…
As for Bill Richardson, a man who speaks three languages, a master negotiator and deal maker can do much better than chairmen of the DNC or a cabinet positions under the Obama administration and should seriously pursue a CEO position in the private sector.

Posted by: Jenny Rome Ga | November 14, 2008, 3:55 pm 3:55 pm

Hillary is not interested in Secretary of State. The Clintons are still bitter over Richardson’s endorsement of Obama. They are still peeved at Kerry too. They just want to yank these guys chains and still give the impression that they still wield the same power in the Democratic Party.

I, for one, am scared to death. To think we are at the mercy of Obama and Hilary is truly frightening. He is a racist who disrespected the American flag, national anthem and the American public, yet we elected him President! Our enemies are laughing at our stupidity and looking forward to his assistance in destroying this country.

One could only imagine how much more over-the-top biased Olbermann would have been if he actually exercised his civic responsibility to vote. Just kidding, of course.
I am reminded of the NYT reported conversation with Obama Girl when she admitted she failed to vote in the 2008 primary election.
We should, however, feel sorry for Olbermann, since–in view of the election result–he has become quite irrelevant as a self appointed spokesperson for the opposition.
Again I jest.

There’s more to Obama than just a pretty face. Smart and good looking, and can make good decisions. No wonder I voted for him. Hillary would be the wise choice. So far, so good. And leave Bill out of it. Why is it people think a woman can’t stand on her own merit? We may be married to our men in spirit, but we still have our own thoughts, capabilities and opinions. Strong women think for themselves. Sexism alive and well in America….(sigh)

This is simply great political drama. Obama knows exactly what he’s doing and HRC is playing her role very well I might add. Gotta love this stuff.
Just FYI to all that think this is really a crazy idea:
Hillary has run for president and is a very powerful figure; why would she want to stay in the Senate and be 1 of a 100? As Sec of State, she would only have to answer to one person; Pres Obama.
She is very popular overseas and would play a critical role on the world stage; not just nationally as she does now. This would be a great power-play and HRC is a serious power-player– I’d dare say she’s a perfect Barack type.

clinchknot…Hillary suggested we talk to our enemies..with preconditions. Obama said talk with no preconditions. Which he then realized in some cases you must have preconditions. Irrelevant nonsensical words at this point. We have to begin communicating with the world, including our enemies. Something the current administration has ignored for the past eight years. Hence the monumental mess we’re in. Get the facts straight.

I think Hillary would be a great Secretary of State, or any task President-elect Obama asked of her. I would rather see her as Senate Majority Leader instead of Reid and keep the numbers high for Dems in the Senate.
BTW, the “change” I voted for was to rid our country of the damage done by the Bush administration: tapping phones and email without warrants; waterboarding; rendition to black holes of claimed enemy combatants; holding in prison forever without charges–etc. etc. etc. The disgrace of Bush/Cheney. I have nothing against experienced elected leaders serving from either major party. Thanks for this forum.

Start leading by example, and STOP THE NEGATIVITY!
I don’t know what states the majority of the people live in, who say they are worse off under President Bush than before, but me personally, I cannot complain at all since I became an adult in 1977. My Momma always stressed the importance of getting an education, taught me to manage my money wisely, pay debts first, then buy whatever as long as I could afford it. Life has been very good to me because I followed my Momma’s advice.
The only time my Momma did not advice me, was when I joined the military without telling her in advance. My Momma responded to my decision by saying it was the best decision I made because the military gave me the discipline, maturity, stability, job security, a better outlook on life, and the opportunity to travel the world, but the thing my Momma admired the most about my decision, was my love of country grew even more after I joined, because I appreciated all the opportunities our great nation gave us no matter how poor we were growing up.
I can’t complain at all, first and foremost, I have God, live in the greatest nation, my loved ones and I are healthy.
Finacially speaking, I have a stable job, have a home, health insurance. My 401K was not affected because two years ago, I changed it to G fund, travel abroad twice a year, travel within U.S. on short trips. What more can I ask for? My financial situation is possible because of personal responsibility.
One last thing, Americans need to be more appreciative of President George W. Bush for keeping us safe since 9/11, and in spite of all the natural disasters we’ve had. Stop blaming President Bush for your financial irresponsibility! If Americans want to blame President Bush, and the Republicans for our financial irresponsibility, let’s not forget to blame the Democrats (Christopher Dodd, Barack Obama, John Kerry, Barney Frank, Hillary Clinton) and their cronies who took more contribution money than anyone else. Let’s not forget ACORN.
God bless President Bush for keeping our country safe, his family, and may God bless our country and the rest of the world!

Most ugly, probably was the Tuzla sniper fire incident. Clinton erroneously claimed about a trip to Tuzla, Bosnia: “I remember landing under sniper fire. There was supposed to be some kind of a greeting ceremony at the airport, but instead, we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base.” That was later proven false, and Clinton acknowledged “misspeaking.”
Misspeaking? It’s lying. Good role model, Hillary.

This is a suprise, but the more one thinks about it, the more it makes sense! May I even say that it is a brilliant move by Obama. He has proved himself once and again that he is a pragmatic leader and is ready to get serious and solve problems. For the first time in my adult life, I feel hopeful and really proud of America.

Secretary of State is a high-profile post, and Clinton would no doubt excel at it, but I wonder if she might not be more effective in the Health and Human Services post overseeing health care reform.

I have read some of the posted comments and I am very dissapointed with the Republican base. Our country is under a lot of serious problems, and in order to find a solution we all must be open to new ideas. The Republicans rather fund a dead end war instead of providing economic relief for our country. They also rather give tax cuts to upper class instead of the middle class and look at the results (where are the jobs). In order for businesses to survive the consumer must have money, if you keep taxing the middle class our economy will end up like our current situation. To answer Diana from California, yes the president should take blame for our current crisis. The president has a responsibility to oversee that our country is running correctly. A good example is the way you run your finances like you mentioned on your blog, is the way our president should have ran our nations finances.

Diana,
Some people are not as fortunate as you are. You said you have a stable job, well I hope you keep that stable job because there are no stable jobs any more.
I hope you do not find yourself in the unfortunate spot some people have found themselves through no fault of there own. Bush has sucked the life out of this country and you may be one of the very few that has benefitted from his time as President.

It’s sad but most Americans have forgotten the truth: the power of the U.S. Government resides in “We The People”!
And “we” have allowed our political system to be corrupted by a two-party “ruling class” with no genuine concern for their constituents, other than the power, prestige and privilege they have loaned to them.
And make no mistake, they use it all for their benefit, not ours!
Do you honestly believe for one second that “government” cares one whit for you or your family?
The government didn’t make this nation great, the individual did! And only the individual will keep this nation great.
It’s high time we held our “leaders” accountable, at every level of government!
We don’t work for them, they work for “we the people”. Not for themselves, not for the lobbyists, nor any other organization. Period!
Remind them of this fact every chance you get, and maybe this nation will finally get the change it needs!
Wake up America!

Yes, President Bush is partially responsible for our current crisis, but equally responsible are the Senate, and House of Representatives from all three political parties, and so are we for being so complacent allowing the liberal media to brainwash us.
If our great nation goes down the toilet it will be our fault for being so blinded by anger to vote for an empty suit who promised “Change”, and who has surrounded himself by so many anti-American radicals. God save us and protect us from our foreign and domestic enemies. I hope the change people yearn for is not experimenting with socialism or communism.

As a very interested Canadian, who has closely followed and watched the political situation in the US from a physical distance, I am pleased for You with your choice of a President. When I first heard of the meeting between Mr. Obama and Mrs. Clinton, there was no other possibility in my mind that Mrs. Clinton be other than Secretary of State. She is brilliant, knowledgeable, succesful and is well traveled. 1992,”the best we can to find … the right balance”. Well versed in politics, sensitive to the US problem of Health Care: “advocate for expanding health insurance coverage, ensuring children ..”. I could not wish better for the US than to have Mrs. Clinton represent you as Secretary of State. The Election Battle is over. May Mr. Obama be steadfast in his determination of “uniting …” the country. Best Wishes to us all.

Hillary is a hard worker. She is a team player. She is smart. I liked her in the senate. She, I thought would make a good speaker of the house or majority leader. She could be a strong voice in the senate. What of her pet project of redoing our health system? How would being Sec of State help that? Wouldn’t she be better at Sec of health and human services……Obama is smart, in a way he is surrounding himself with the very people who might oppose his ideas (in the future). He is sort of eliminating those who have the power to go against what he wants passed (in the senate) by surrounding himself with them. He is also making his way easier. I would rather have Hillary in the senate or as Sec of Health.

I believe that Hillary Clinton will be the best person for the Sec.of State, because of her intelligent, her people-person persona and her expertise in related work. In over-all I know that President-Elect Obama with his intelligent, far-seeing vision and wisdom will select the best people suited to work wtth him. I know there are a lot of others that are also great and qualify for the job, but unfortunately they can only be a certain amount of people to be selected at that appointed time. What I would of done if I were the President is to make sure that everyone understand the principles and loyalty that required for the positions. Not just to the President but for the soul purpose of the people and our country, and if those principles were to be violated
by any deceptiveness or any treacherousness, a disciplinary action will be taken. That action will include a voluntary of them stepping down and be replace by someone else that were also qualify for the position at that time.

Please Mr. Obama, don’t put another Clinton in power. We don’t need more Whitewater problems worldwide. We don’t need a hypocrite representing our country. What I am referring to is reports the Clintons invest in companies that work against human rights. They would not invest in these areas if they were not simply out to make money.
She is definitely not a Rice. Rice is a smart woman and I would support her again.

When is comes to the Clintons, the saying “keep your friends close and your enemies closer” does not apply. Now, as someone who thinks Obama will be a deeply flawed president, I hope he does appoint Hillary. Maybe she can sneak Bill in the back door of the White House and he can prevent Barry from permanently harming our country. Obama as a puppet for a behind the scenes Clinton take-over would be the best thing we can reasonably hope for in the current situation.

I think it would be wise of Obama to appoint people to specific posts who he feels is capable of being a plus to the administration and to the country. The talking heads say since Hillary is a junior Senator, getting health care issues addessed that she feels so strongly about would be impossible. She has experience and would be great at this position if accepted. I applaud Obama for attempting to select the best possible people for positions within his administration.

What happened to the platform of change??? That promise went out the window fast. Obama was voted in to bring about change and clean up Washington. Instead he is surrounding himself with the Clinton’s and people from their administration. If he really intends to bring change to Washington and bring people together, he don’t need the Clintons and he can get his party to stop the hate compaign to remove Lieberman from his position,a man of experience as revenge for speaking his mind. Maybe Mr. Liberman knew it was all smoke and mirrors and no change would ever really come to Washington. Obama does not need Hillary Clinton who has her own agenda, he needs somebody who will help promote his agenda.

But now I am a little disappointed, I mean so far the template that is being built is based on the old.I thought this was going to be change not a throwback, we have all of the same players affiliated in some way with the impeached Clinton from 9 years ago, please President Obama, start tapping into the talent of tomorrow and the power movers of the NOW, Hillary and the Clinton’s’ made me lose a great deal of respect, however, they seemed to patch things up but I would not have her in my cabinet or administration if he knows what is right for him, loyalty is the most important asset or your team, she has shown the cards of being able to cast a spear into his back and not bat an eye.

Bill Clinton was good enough to be our President. No one should question his patriotism and loyalty to this country over the interest of various donors. If there were a conflict of interest, I know that Bill will do the right thing if Hillary Clinton were Secretary of State. So don’t blame Bill Clinton if Hillary does not get the job. She is qualified and that is all that should matter. The rest will take care of itself.

With all the talk in the news lately about the impending choice for Secretary of State, we are compelled to request that the Obama Biden administration that we all fought for to intensely please consider a new, fresh, and revitalizing force of a candidate for this position at the State Department. We are all very anxious to see a new and progressive individual who can symbolize the change in generation and ideology that made this Administration possible. A candidate that can represent the new and improved bi lateral United States of America. Someone who will not be bringing old and salvaged baggage to the position but a clean slate candidate. Please consider ! We implore you! God Bless.

The only way to see clearly is to do your own research. The media is twisted and full of misinformation from both sides. The second you start to rely on some talk show host, be it lib or con, you are still letting someone else make your decisions. It’s convenient though because you don’t have to use your brain. Then you can repeat what you heard, but don’t completely understand, like an expert. We aren’t going to become communists or socialists. Though there are some good aspects to those concepts. Unfortunately, you’d need a more intelligent populous to execute it properly. It’s not going to be the end of the world. Gimme a break people. Most of you sound like my grandparents. Old outdated ideas and perspectives. I’m glad people age and die. It makes way for the new ideas and cleans out the old crap that people cling to. I don’t understand why people become so rigid in their thought in the first place…
